little bit of experience.

times where I've praying

for something very specific.

And following those
prayers is a confidence

and there is a waiting period
and there is a trust period

where I am
looking for God's answer

in the things
that happen around me.

And it doesn't necessarily come

and almost
always doesn't come with

writing on my
wall that I wake up

and there is God's answer.

But it's just being aware

and looking for the
ways that He is leading.

And either He is
shutting a door of opportunity

and change direction.

But that's okay
because I continue to pray

and ask for His leading.

You know, there is a message

or sermon that I had
preached in the past many times

and it's in regard to
how we can hear God's voice.

And there are several ways,

you know, we
hear, we can hear Him

through
thoughts and impressions.

We can hear Him through

even sometimes,
verbally through friends,

or others who come to us

and share with
us His good counsel.

That could be an
audible thing, right.

A friend of mine that
was riding with his wife

up in Angwin, California,

I mean, he was
coming around the corner

on a very narrow road

and all of a sudden as he
is coming around that road

he swirled to the
right and stopped the car.

His wife looked at him.

And a moment later a car
going the other direction
00:04:47.03\00:04:50.47
coming down the middle
of the road flew by them,

would have hit
him head on, no doubt.

And he said to his wife,

he said "honey I am
glad you said something.

How did you know
that car was coming?"

She says, "I didn't say a
word. I didn't say anything."

He said, "I heard you
say, honey, pullover now."

And she said "I
didn't say that."

It was an angel.

So in some ways
God even sends angels

to do an audible
thing to get us to respond

when we're in eminent danger.

But one way, that I find
that He speaks to us most often

that people I think
probably don't give Him

a lot of credit in this way,

is through the
circumstances of life.

Just what we see
happening around us.

We as Christians don't
see thinks as coincidences.

We see God working in
every area of our life

and the lives
of those around us.

And just discerning how
He is working and how those--

well those
circumstances are telling us

in regard to our prayers

can really be a help not
only in building confidence

and trust in God
that He hears your prayers

but in finding the
answer that you're looking for.

And I found those different ways

and I just shared are really key

in knowing how God
is leading in your life.

And John, there are--

those are very good points
that you've made because--

I had a little
bit of each of those.

The immediate direction
the Lord gave us and somebody,

you know,
hearing an audible voice.

Didn't' happened
very much, really its not,

its one of those rare incidences
00:06:23.28\00:06:25.90
but it comes out of
what I call pivotal moments--

when you needed
more than ever before.

And God speaks that way.

I think one of the things that
the Lord gives us in His word.

There is phrase
that people often use

and we often
wonder where it comes from
00:06:40.88\00:06:43.09
but I want
those who are watching
00:06:43.12\00:06:45.00
and listening to the program
to turn to Judges Chapter 6
00:06:45.03\00:06:49.07
because this is a
phrase that we often use
00:06:49.10\00:06:51.24
when people say "well, I
am putting my fleece out."
00:06:51.27\00:06:55.12
People often, get that
example from the story of Gideon
00:06:55.15\00:06:59.43
when God was choosing Gideon
00:06:59.46\00:07:01.06
to accomplish a
particular purpose.
00:07:01.09\00:07:03.36
We say, well, I am
praying for this job,
00:07:03.39\00:07:05.64
I am putting my fleece out
00:07:05.67\00:07:06.87
about this
decision I need to make.
00:07:06.90\00:07:09.06
I am putting fleece out
about the job that I have,
00:07:09.09\00:07:11.23
that I like to have.
00:07:11.26\00:07:12.29
I am putting my fleece out about
00:07:12.32\00:07:14.10
whether or not I
should marry this person.
00:07:14.13\00:07:16.21
We often, use this
phrase in conjunction with
00:07:16.24\00:07:20.39
what we read here
in the Book of Judges.
00:07:20.42\00:07:22.14
And I want to just
read through this first.
00:07:22.17\00:07:25.23
Let me encourage you
a lesson of foundation
00:07:25.26\00:07:26.93
before you read through this,
00:07:26.96\00:07:28.60
is because when you are a
student of the word of God
00:07:28.63\00:07:32.54
you are able to discern between
00:07:32.57\00:07:36.03
whether or not
the prayer is answered
00:07:36.06\00:07:37.52
in harmony with God's will
00:07:37.55\00:07:39.70
or whether or not the
prayer was just answered.

And let me tell
you the difference.
00:07:42.74\00:07:44.56
If a person is praying for,
00:07:44.59\00:07:47.33
for the Lord's will to be done
00:07:47.36\00:07:49.52
in leading him or her to a job,
00:07:49.55\00:07:51.56
God will never lead
you to give you a job
00:07:51.59\00:07:54.34
that's going to
violate His revealed will
00:07:54.37\00:07:57.43
or His revealed commandments.
00:07:57.46\00:07:59.98
Great example of that would be,
00:08:00.01\00:08:02.07
you know, I want a job
to work at a major airlines
00:08:02.10\00:08:05.72
and then the
Lord-- a job comes along
00:08:05.75\00:08:08.18
that requires me to
violate the Sabbath.
00:08:08.21\00:08:10.93
God didn't answer
that. That's right.
00:08:10.96\00:08:13.06
And so you find in the Bible
00:08:13.09\00:08:14.93
and I know I throw this
back to you in a moment.
00:08:14.96\00:08:17.09
You find at the Bible
sometimes the Lord says,
00:08:17.12\00:08:19.37
you pray for a sign,
the sign would happen
00:08:19.40\00:08:23.05
just as you were
told the sign would occur
00:08:23.08\00:08:25.63
but it's a test. And
that's in Deuteronomy 5.
00:08:25.66\00:08:29.35
And I want to
bring that in a moment.
00:08:29.38\00:08:31.07
But let's first
start with this fleece.
00:08:31.10\00:08:32.69
Because many
people have used this
00:08:32.72\00:08:35.16
and this is an
example of how God leads us.

And God doesn't always--

God doesn't
always answer our prayer

the first time we pray it.
00:08:43.28\00:08:45.59
Because what prayer usually does

or what prayer is designed to do

is not just to get God to
give me directions all the time

but to get me to live in harmony

with God's direction already.

Because sometimes
I am praying a prayer

and the answer already is no.
00:08:57.11\00:08:59.11
while the answer
already is, wait.
00:08:59.14\00:09:01.54
And we know
sometimes what that is.
00:09:01.57\00:09:03.26
I say, Lord I need-- I
want a new house built.
00:09:03.29\00:09:06.13
Well, the answer is wait
00:09:06.16\00:09:07.50
because you got
to build that house
00:09:07.53\00:09:10.38
or how the God works.
00:09:10.41\00:09:12.06
But here is the example.
00:09:12.09\00:09:13.78
Judges 6:37, it says,
"Then Gideon said to God,
00:09:13.81\00:09:21.20
'If you'll save Israel
00:09:21.23\00:09:23.16
by my hand as you have said
00:09:23.19\00:09:25.61
look, I shall put a fleece
of wool on the threshing floor,
00:09:25.64\00:09:29.89
if there is dew
on the fleece only,
00:09:29.92\00:09:32.80
and it is dry on all
ground, then I shall know that
00:09:32.83\00:09:36.19
you will save
Israel by my hands,
00:09:36.22\00:09:38.02
as you have said.'"
00:09:38.05\00:09:39.27
Now, one of the only problems
00:09:39.30\00:09:40.57
I ever have with this text here
00:09:40.60\00:09:42.32
is because the
Lord has said to Gideon
00:09:42.35\00:09:43.48
this is I am gonna do it. Right.
00:09:43.51\00:09:45.02
And he said, if you really
gonna do it that way go ahead.
00:09:45.05\00:09:47.98
Wet the ground,
keep the fleece dry.
00:09:48.01\00:09:50.29
And the Lord did that.
00:09:50.32\00:09:51.56
And then he said, but
just once more in verse 39.
00:09:51.59\00:09:55.85
"Just once more with the fleece,
00:09:55.88\00:09:57.87
let it now be dry on the fleece,
00:09:57.90\00:09:59.55
and on all the
ground let there be dew.
00:09:59.58\00:10:02.66
And God's did so that night.
00:10:02.69\00:10:04.18
It was dry on the fleece only,
00:10:04.21\00:10:06.13
but there was dew
on all the ground."

See so, the Lord
said, it is I am gonna do.

And he said, but
I need conformation.

And sometimes, sometimes
and I think that in this case

what the situation was
as Gideon was so overwhelmed

by the idea that God
would use him to deliver Israel.

He said, are you
sure you mean me.

I think that was
more the case rather than,
00:10:27.43\00:10:29.40
I don't really
believe what you said.
00:10:29.43\00:10:30.67
Could you kind of
come in other way?

And so but John,
here is the point.

Sometimes God's answers

or sometimes God's
choosing of us is overwhelming

that we want
another conformation

and it does come.

Any response on that so far?

Well, and I think sometimes

though we think God is answering

but we need to
wait a little while

before proceeding to conform

that it is in fact
God answering the prayer.

And so that could also be

what's happening
a little bit here

is Gideon wants to make sure

that this is the Lord and
that He is asking him to do this

which I think is
an important thing.

The other time,
sometimes you have to wait.

Sometimes the
answer doesn't come.

You know,
Psalms 1, Psalms 27:14,

"Wait on the Lord."
00:11:12.55\00:11:15.05
Sometimes you
pray and you think,
00:11:15.08\00:11:18.89
I know this is what
God is called me to do.
00:11:18.92\00:11:22.44
I know what is in
harmony with God's will.
00:11:22.47\00:11:25.04
But man the position
is just not open yet.
00:11:25.07\00:11:27.64
My wife and I had
an experience like that
00:11:27.67\00:11:29.25
in our early years of ministry.
00:11:29.28\00:11:30.95
She is working at a hospital
00:11:30.98\00:11:32.60
the position was just temporary.
00:11:32.63\00:11:34.43
It was for six months.
00:11:34.46\00:11:37.06
And they said at
the end of six months
00:11:37.09\00:11:40.86
the position is
done because there are
00:11:40.89\00:11:42.14
13 other people ahead of you
00:11:42.17\00:11:43.73
for this position for fulltime.
00:11:43.76\00:11:45.46
So, all 13 people
would have to say no

for her to get
that job fulltime.

So at the end of the time period

they said goodbye to her.

They gave her little go away

and she called me and
said what do we do next?

And we said,
let's pray about it.

So we prayed, we prayed.

And you know what was amazing
about this particular prayer?

We needed the answer that day

because had she left the company

it would have
been obviously clear

that the position was done.

We prayed about lunchtime.

At 2 o'clock, the answer came.

The supervisor and manager

called her in
the office and said,

we know that there
are 13 people ahead of you

but we're breaking protocol
and offering you the job first.

So that was that prayer
that you needed to know now

because if she came home

and somebody else
occupy the position, boom.

We knew that, she would
not have that job fulltime.

So two hours
between the time we prayed

and the time God
answered the prayer.

So sometimes, but
then there're times

you have to wait. That's right.

You have to say, okay Lord,

well I get this job after
the six month period is over.

He'll say, well,
that's can wait till

we get to the six
month period and see.

And that's how God works.

But study God's
word and you will know

whether or not
the answer comes in

harmony with God will.

I mean, sometimes
the verse Isaiah 30:21,

"Your ears shall hear a
word behind you, saying,

'This is the way, walk in it.'

Whenever you turn to the right

or whenever you
turn to the left."

So you are
turning you are looking

but then the
God's leading His voice.

He will bring
fast to our impressions

that this is the right
way or this is the wrong way.

And you will find
true rest in the right way.

about that statement John,

God is more reliable than a GPS.

And if the GPS can direct us--

Its right, what can the Lord do.

What can the Lord do?

Here is another question,

a friend of mine believes that

the redeemed will
instruct people from prior ages

who are deceived by the devil

who never knew
Christ or God, the Father.

Any thought on that teaching

and that was something

person brought in there.

those that believed

they're kind of like,

waiting for the gospel
to be preached to them.

The Bible doesn't
support that at all.
