Oh, we have a long history in leading 00:15:05.49\00:15:08.11 in obedience to the laws or commandments a.k.a. he put, 00:15:08.14\00:15:12.15 given to us by God in the Bible. 00:15:12.18\00:15:14.52 And this is the statement. 00:15:14.55\00:15:15.95 The New Testament in this the pastors response, 00:15:15.98\00:15:18.53 "The New Testament however, 00:15:18.56\00:15:20.47 living in grace through the blood of Jesus Christ 00:15:20.50\00:15:24.00 for redemption of sins is our model. 00:15:24.03\00:15:26.97 This does not mean we disregard the Old Testament. 00:15:27.00\00:15:30.55 However, the Old Testament was the law 00:15:30.58\00:15:33.14 which does not apply to us now 00:15:33.17\00:15:35.47 as far as our eternity is concerned. 00:15:35.50\00:15:38.19 God gave us all 66 books 00:15:38.22\00:15:40.32 and they all agree without exception." 00:15:40.35\00:15:42.27 Now normally, I don't read all this but it's important 00:15:42.30\00:15:44.24 because it gets to the crux of the matter. 00:15:44.27\00:15:46.19 "God makes his will very clear in his word 00:15:46.22\00:15:48.88 as far as how we should be born again. 00:15:48.91\00:15:51.49 How we are to be behave ourselves 00:15:51.52\00:15:53.74 both in public and private 00:15:53.77\00:15:55.14 and in the business world and in our homes. 00:15:55.17\00:15:57.28 And born again Christians" this is the example, 00:15:57.31\00:16:01.38 "a born again Christians now celebrate 00:16:01.41\00:16:03.50 corporate worship and praise and learning on Sunday. 00:16:03.53\00:16:07.64 Because, Sunday is the day 00:16:07.67\00:16:09.04 on which Christ arose from the grave. 00:16:09.07\00:16:11.52 We commemorate that significant event 00:16:11.55\00:16:13.71 by meeting on Sunday. 00:16:13.74\00:16:15.11 And yes, in those days Sunday began at 6 p.m. Saturday 00:16:15.14\00:16:19.49 for the good, further proof 00:16:19.52\00:16:21.66 that Jesus is not crucified on manmade Good Friday. 00:16:21.69\00:16:25.73 Another fact filled sermon straight from God's word. 00:16:25.76\00:16:28.63 So in essence he is saying we keep Sunday 00:16:28.66\00:16:31.55 in honor of the resurrection of Christ. 00:16:31.58\00:16:33.37 That's the reason in essence saying 00:16:33.40\00:16:34.80 but he made statement he says, 00:16:34.83\00:16:36.47 the Old Testament was the law which does not apply to us 00:16:36.50\00:16:40.76 as far as our eternal as far as our eternity is concerned. 00:16:40.79\00:16:44.53 Well, John, I read that long question 00:16:44.56\00:16:46.75 if I want to lead him by saying this when Jesus said, 00:16:46.78\00:16:51.57 "Man shall not live by bread alone 00:16:51.60\00:16:54.93 but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." 00:16:54.96\00:16:57.93 He wasn't talking about the New Testament, 00:16:57.96\00:17:00.70 because there was no New Testament 00:17:00.73\00:17:02.10 when Jesus made that statement. 00:17:02.13\00:17:03.63 It was the Old Testament. 00:17:03.66\00:17:05.85 So when you say the statement 00:17:05.88\00:17:07.99 about salvation does not apply to the Old Testament. 00:17:08.02\00:17:10.51 Jesus himself made that connection 00:17:10.54\00:17:12.52 long before there was a New Testament. 00:17:12.55\00:17:15.87 So right away that point is now in void. 00:17:15.90\00:17:18.98 The other part that was pointed out 00:17:19.01\00:17:20.92 in showing you the connection between the old and new, 00:17:20.95\00:17:22.53 there is no difference 00:17:22.56\00:17:23.93 when it comes to the commandments of God. 00:17:23.96\00:17:25.69 The commandments of God however cannot be ignored 00:17:25.72\00:17:28.75 if we claim ourselves to be saved. 00:17:28.78\00:17:30.62 It is impossible. 00:17:30.65\00:17:32.02 Matter of fact, let's go the New Testament. 00:17:32.05\00:17:33.46 Go with me to Romans. 00:17:33.49\00:17:34.86 Romans 13, I want you to see the New Testament 00:17:34.89\00:17:37.57 as it relates to the commandments of God. 00:17:37.60\00:17:40.40 And as you listen to the question 00:17:40.43\00:17:41.98 you also understand that the issue there 00:17:42.01\00:17:43.65 was not so much just the commandments of God, 00:17:43.68\00:17:46.72 the issue really was the Sabbath. 00:17:46.75\00:17:49.34 Am I correct John? That's right. 00:17:49.37\00:17:51.18 That was the issue that was brought out. 00:17:51.21\00:17:53.16 The Sabbath was the focal point that he actually addressed. 00:17:53.19\00:17:56.93 And Romans 13 starting with verse 8. 00:17:56.96\00:18:03.37 Romans 13:8. 00:18:03.40\00:18:06.63 And Paul the Apostle says, "Owe no one anything, 00:18:06.66\00:18:09.85 except to love one another." 00:18:09.88\00:18:12.56 Now we've heard that. 00:18:12.59\00:18:14.14 We've heard Jesus say 00:18:14.17\00:18:15.54 "Love the Lord with all your heart. 00:18:15.57\00:18:17.75 Love your neighbor as yourself." 00:18:17.78\00:18:19.69 The law of the God is encompassed in love. 00:18:19.72\00:18:22.27 The whole principle on which it hangs is love. 00:18:22.30\00:18:25.09 He goes on. 00:18:25.12\00:18:26.56 "For he who loves another has fulfilled the law." 00:18:26.59\00:18:31.40 Now I want to say something here, 00:18:31.43\00:18:32.82 because, my mind is clicking right now. 00:18:32.85\00:18:35.07 When Jesus says, in Mathew 5:17-19 00:18:35.10\00:18:38.80 "That He fulfilled the law." 00:18:38.83\00:18:40.47 He didn't do away with it. 00:18:40.50\00:18:42.17 Anymore than Paul says, 00:18:42.20\00:18:43.89 "When you love somebody you fulfill the law." 00:18:43.92\00:18:46.02 You do away with it, because we fulfill-- 00:18:46.05\00:18:48.32 Fulfill doesn't do away. 00:18:48.35\00:18:49.72 Exactly, when we love somebody 00:18:49.75\00:18:52.21 fulfill doesn't mean we do away with the law, 00:18:52.24\00:18:55.38 it means we honor it. 00:18:55.41\00:18:56.80 We are fulfilling His requirements. 00:18:56.83\00:19:00.28 That's what he in essence says, 00:19:00.31\00:19:01.68 we're fulfilling the requirements of the law, 00:19:01.71\00:19:03.67 not fulfilling by getting rid of it. Right. 00:19:03.70\00:19:06.79 You see, I have not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 00:19:06.82\00:19:12.34 And he says by honoring us each other out of love 00:19:12.37\00:19:15.24 we do the same thing. 00:19:15.27\00:19:16.64 We fulfill the law. 00:19:16.67\00:19:18.04 So Jesus didn't do away with it. 00:19:18.07\00:19:19.62 And Paul has not, going in contrast to Christ. 00:19:19.65\00:19:23.44 But look at verse 9 and notice what he says. 00:19:23.47\00:19:26.41 "For the commandments, 'you shall not commit adultery, 00:19:26.44\00:19:29.57 you shall not murder, you shall not steal, 00:19:29.60\00:19:32.70 you shall not bare false witness, 00:19:32.73\00:19:34.62 you shall not covet,' 00:19:34.65\00:19:36.02 and if there is any other commandments 00:19:36.05\00:19:39.38 are all summed up in this saying namely 00:19:39.41\00:19:42.80 you shall love your neighbor as yourself. 00:19:42.83\00:19:47.28 Love does no harm to a neighbor, 00:19:47.31\00:19:49.85 therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." 00:19:49.88\00:19:53.78 So when we say New Testament Christians as his-- 00:19:53.81\00:19:57.06 I didn't say we. 00:19:57.09\00:19:58.46 Did I say we? 00:19:58.49\00:19:59.86 When the statement is made that the Old Testament is all law. 00:19:59.89\00:20:03.80 That's not the truth. 00:20:03.83\00:20:05.44 Just the first five books 00:20:05.47\00:20:06.84 encompass the Law of Moses which is the ceremonial laws, 00:20:06.87\00:20:12.26 the Pentateuch had more than ceremonial laws 00:20:12.29\00:20:14.58 by the way, health laws, laws commercial laws. 00:20:14.61\00:20:19.17 When we say that the Old Testament is a law. 00:20:19.20\00:20:21.28 That is not the case. 00:20:21.31\00:20:23.15 Because the Old Testament is the books of law, 00:20:23.18\00:20:26.51 you have the prophets and kings. 00:20:26.54\00:20:29.29 You have the books of poetry. 00:20:29.32\00:20:30.95 You have the large book of Psalms 00:20:30.98\00:20:32.92 then you have the Minor Prophets books of prophecy. 00:20:32.95\00:20:35.15 That's not all the law. 00:20:35.18\00:20:36.91 But in a nutshell what is actually the focal point is, 00:20:36.94\00:20:40.92 he made a statement that is not supported by scripture. 00:20:40.95\00:20:43.10 We actually keep Sunday now 00:20:43.13\00:20:44.50 because of the resurrection of Christ. 00:20:44.53\00:20:46.05 I'm gonna and break the monotony of my voice alone. 00:20:46.08\00:20:48.97 Let me have you chiming on that 00:20:49.00\00:20:50.80 and I'll come back and make some points. 00:20:50.83\00:20:52.45 Quote some statements here, John. 00:20:52.48\00:20:53.92 Well, I mean, the first thing 00:20:53.95\00:20:55.32 I think of is Jesus' own words where He says. 00:20:55.35\00:20:57.28 He is referring to the law and the prophets. Right. 00:20:57.31\00:21:00.05 All the Old Testament books were considered the law 00:21:00.08\00:21:02.21 and the prophets because the Law of Moses 00:21:02.24\00:21:04.04 and then the prophets that came after that. 00:21:04.07\00:21:05.75 That's right. And their writings. 00:21:05.78\00:21:07.21 And so even this doesn't really line up with that. 00:21:07.24\00:21:10.37 I think what he is saying there with the law, 00:21:10.40\00:21:12.96 the Old Testament is the law 00:21:12.99\00:21:14.36 is this common misconception of the dispensation theory 00:21:14.39\00:21:17.45 which is-- the Old Testament is law, 00:21:17.48\00:21:19.66 the New Testament is grace. Right. 00:21:19.69\00:21:21.31 And so they encompass 00:21:21.34\00:21:23.09 all of Old Testament writings with this era of law. 00:21:23.12\00:21:26.91 And actually, it goes far as to teach that 00:21:26.94\00:21:28.73 they were saved by keeping the law back then 00:21:28.76\00:21:30.75 and now we're saved by grace. 00:21:30.78\00:21:32.33 Where if you look at the scripture clearly 00:21:32.36\00:21:33.87 over and over again especially Hebrews 11, 00:21:33.90\00:21:36.51 by faith, by faith, by faith for Abraham and Sarah and Moses. 00:21:36.54\00:21:42.23 And all these great patriarchs and matriarchs of the Bible 00:21:42.26\00:21:46.00 who were practicing their faith in Christ 00:21:46.03\00:21:50.15 and through His grace were saved, 00:21:50.18\00:21:52.13 so even that doesn't work. 00:21:52.16\00:21:53.71 And so this dispensation theory, John, really is kind of-- 00:21:53.74\00:21:58.63 it's everywhere in these doctrines 00:21:58.66\00:22:01.20 that churches are teaching today 00:22:01.23\00:22:02.60 and this where this individual is at. 00:22:02.63\00:22:04.91 And I understand it's very hard to come out of that. 00:22:04.94\00:22:07.11 Once you have a system in your head 00:22:07.14\00:22:10.56 of how something works, 00:22:10.59\00:22:11.96 it is hard to see anything else. Right. 00:22:11.99\00:22:15.20 We can argue till we're blue in the face 00:22:15.23\00:22:17.92 what is right and what's wrong, but it is difficult. 00:22:17.95\00:22:19.97 I--we have to acknowledge that. 00:22:20.00\00:22:22.01 But what we are saying here with this issue 00:22:22.04\00:22:23.75 then it gets into the Sabbath 00:22:23.78\00:22:25.17 and we honor in recognition of the resurrection of Christ. 00:22:25.20\00:22:32.24 There is nothing that points to the resurrection at all. 00:22:32.27\00:22:34.99 In fact, Jesus Himself rested in the grave 00:22:35.02\00:22:39.06 prior to resurrection day on the first day of the week. 00:22:39.09\00:22:41.81 Right. And as you go into the Book of Acts 00:22:41.84\00:22:44.58 you find the early church continuing to meet 00:22:44.61\00:22:46.36 on the Sabbath both Jews and Greeks. 00:22:46.39\00:22:49.01 And Gentiles. 00:22:49.04\00:22:50.44 Yeah and so this ideology, this whole package 00:22:50.47\00:22:55.89 that's been put together by many churches today 00:22:55.92\00:22:59.12 is something that is so interwoven 00:22:59.15\00:23:00.56 and interconnected that it's hard to talk about 00:23:00.59\00:23:02.55 what we're talking about and see it. Right 00:23:02.58\00:23:04.92 But that's what God's spirit is all about. 00:23:04.95\00:23:06.53 That's what Bible study is all about 00:23:06.56\00:23:08.17 to confirm what we're hearing as to whether or not it is true. 00:23:08.20\00:23:12.64 First thing they did after Paul preached to them, 00:23:12.67\00:23:14.70 they went back-- it says, 00:23:14.73\00:23:16.13 they went back to their Bibles 00:23:16.16\00:23:17.90 to see if what he was saying was true. 00:23:17.93\00:23:21.16 And the reason they did that is 00:23:21.19\00:23:22.56 because they heard that Jesus was not the Messiah. 00:23:22.59\00:23:25.18 They heard all these other things. 00:23:25.21\00:23:27.48 Now they were hearing something new 00:23:27.51\00:23:29.41 and they had to go to the Bible to find out 00:23:29.44\00:23:30.97 if it was true what Paul was saying 00:23:31.00\00:23:32.69 and they find very much that it was true. 00:23:32.72\00:23:35.77 And so we encourage you to study your Bibles, 00:23:35.80\00:23:38.30 it's not what the pastor says. 00:23:38.33\00:23:40.28 And even for pastors it's not what your colleague says 00:23:40.31\00:23:42.86 it's what the word or what the scripture say. 00:23:42.89\00:23:45.74 And we need to get back to scripture for our faith, 00:23:45.77\00:23:48.45 our rule of faith and practice. 00:23:48.48\00:23:49.97 Well, it almost makes it sound like the New Testament. 00:23:50.00\00:23:52.02 If we hadn't had the New Testament, 00:23:52.05\00:23:53.42 we wouldn't really have salvation. 00:23:53.45\00:23:55.15 Because, it says, the Old Testament 00:23:55.18\00:23:57.30 does not apply to us as far as our eternity is concerned. 00:23:57.33\00:24:01.05 Well, when you make that kind of statement, 00:24:01.08\00:24:04.10 you really shouldn't just sell Bibles 00:24:04.13\00:24:05.82 that only have the New Testament. 00:24:05.85\00:24:07.46 If you don't need the Old Testament, 00:24:07.49\00:24:09.07 it--this does not mean that we disregard the Old Testament. 00:24:09.10\00:24:12.21 So you see how you have to dance through that. 00:24:12.24\00:24:14.20 This does not mean that we disregard it, 00:24:14.23\00:24:16.03 but we don't really need the Old Testament for salvation. 00:24:16.06\00:24:18.01 It doesn't really apply for salvation. 00:24:18.04\00:24:19.92 Yes, God gave us all 66 books 00:24:19.95\00:24:21.84 and they all agree without exception. 00:24:21.87\00:24:23.76 And but however that you have to dance through that 00:24:23.79\00:24:27.39 and that's exactly what he is trying to do, he is dancing. 00:24:27.42\00:24:29.66 Well, not only that. Yeah. 00:24:29.69\00:24:31.06 You have a problem 00:24:31.09\00:24:32.46 with the New Testament and Commandments. 00:24:32.49\00:24:33.86 Because keeping the Commandments of God 00:24:33.89\00:24:35.26 is what matters. 00:24:35.29\00:24:36.66 Right. Says the New Testament. 00:24:36.69\00:24:38.06 If we love-- 1 Corinthians 7:19. 00:24:38.09\00:24:39.46 Yeah, "If we love God, we keep His commandments." 00:24:39.49\00:24:41.88 That's right. 00:24:41.91\00:24:43.28 All these things in the New Testament, 00:24:43.31\00:24:44.68 just-- how we say. 00:24:44.71\00:24:48.35 You know, what is the definition of a politician is, John? 00:24:48.38\00:24:50.43 Let's just kind of step back for a minute. Okay. 00:24:50.46\00:24:52.38 Politicians are very good at one thing. 00:24:52.41\00:24:55.17 You become a good politician 00:24:55.20\00:24:56.57 when you know that if you say something enough times, 00:24:56.60\00:24:59.88 whether it's right or wrong... 00:24:59.91\00:25:01.28 It's a good one. People accept it. 00:25:01.31\00:25:03.19 Surely. They start to believe it. 00:25:03.22\00:25:05.00 You're a good politician if you can make that happen. 00:25:05.03\00:25:08.28 And to a great degree-- even in the Christian world 00:25:08.31\00:25:11.92 we feel if we say something enough times, 00:25:11.95\00:25:15.01 then people will believe it. 00:25:15.04\00:25:16.41 And it's happened, its working. Right. 00:25:16.44\00:25:17.81 Just like it works for politicians, 00:25:17.84\00:25:19.50 it's working for the Christian world. 00:25:19.53\00:25:21.68 We need to get out of this 00:25:21.71\00:25:23.08 if you say it enough times it will just make it true 00:25:23.11\00:25:25.32 and get to the fact of what the Bible really is saying. 00:25:25.35\00:25:28.97 I've heard over and over again, John. 00:25:29.00\00:25:30.76 You've and I've heard this we shouldn't judge each other 00:25:30.79\00:25:33.22 for the day that we worship and they quote Romans 14. 00:25:33.25\00:25:37.36 Right, don't judge. 00:25:37.39\00:25:38.76 The Sabbath is not even in Romans 14, 00:25:38.79\00:25:40.41 where you're getting that from? 00:25:40.44\00:25:41.81 It's like if we say it enough times 00:25:41.84\00:25:43.45 all of the sudden it will work. 00:25:43.48\00:25:45.32 But it's not gonna work because Romans 14 00:25:45.35\00:25:47.72 isn't about the Sabbath. Right. 00:25:47.75\00:25:50.05 It's about fasting and ceremonial offerings 00:25:50.08\00:25:52.97 and what we eat and drink not offering food, 00:25:53.00\00:25:56.17 eating and drinking foods offered to idols. 00:25:56.20\00:25:57.81 It's all these things but not about the seventh-day Sabbath. 00:25:57.84\00:26:00.23 No, not at all. 00:26:00.26\00:26:01.63 Yet they quote it over and over again 00:26:01.66\00:26:03.03 and that's a political tactic that we find today 00:26:03.06\00:26:06.05 in politics of America and around the world. 00:26:06.08\00:26:09.01 If you say something enough times people will believe it. 00:26:09.04\00:26:11.77 I know, that's true, John. 00:26:11.80\00:26:13.24 Because you know, if you think about it 00:26:13.27\00:26:14.95 this is not just a modern day thing 00:26:14.98\00:26:17.23 but it is so prevalent today it's just sickening. 00:26:17.26\00:26:20.62 Just imagine people saying for centuries 00:26:20.65\00:26:24.95 Sunday is the new day, Sunday is the new day, 00:26:24.98\00:26:27.32 Sunday is the new day, Sunday is the new day. 00:26:27.35\00:26:30.05 It's just like saying, we die and go to heaven, 00:26:30.08\00:26:32.01 we die and go to heaven. 00:26:32.04\00:26:33.41 So you hear people on T.V. 00:26:33.44\00:26:35.61 they are in the better place now. 00:26:35.64\00:26:37.07 They're in heaven now. 00:26:37.10\00:26:38.47 They're looking down from heaven now. 00:26:38.50\00:26:40.30 And there is not a single verse in God's word 00:26:40.33\00:26:44.84 where you'll see one evidence of a person 00:26:44.87\00:26:48.26 that died is looking down from heaven. 00:26:48.29\00:26:50.57 I would at least give some plausibility to it 00:26:50.60\00:26:53.43 if there was one text that said, 00:26:53.46\00:26:55.22 "They're looking down from heaven right now, 00:26:55.25\00:26:57.49 since they died and went there." 00:26:57.52\00:26:59.82 And there is not one. 00:26:59.85\00:27:01.22 And as a politician does, they launch of if something 00:27:01.25\00:27:04.36 that's only appears to be true. Right. 00:27:04.39\00:27:06.79 Which is they used the parable of the rich man Lazarus. 00:27:06.82\00:27:09.14 And they use absence 00:27:09.17\00:27:10.54 from the body is present with the Lord. 00:27:10.57\00:27:11.94 Those two, that's it. Right. 00:27:11.97\00:27:13.44 And they keep repeating those as the evidence 00:27:13.47\00:27:16.39 but they are ignoring hundreds of verses 00:27:16.42\00:27:19.62 through our scripture that say that 00:27:19.65\00:27:21.04 when you die you rest in the grave 00:27:21.07\00:27:23.06 until the second coming of Jesus 00:27:23.09\00:27:24.77 and the resurrection. Right. 00:27:24.80\00:27:26.41 That is the model that the Bible provides for us 00:27:26.44\00:27:29.29 for those who have rested in Christ. 00:27:29.32\00:27:31.86 And then the statement is, 00:27:31.89\00:27:33.26 well don't tell me I'm wrong that offends me. 00:27:33.29\00:27:35.21 Well, you know, why would you be offended 00:27:35.24\00:27:36.61 if I'm trying to give you 00:27:36.64\00:27:38.01 the direction of God's word that's like. 00:27:38.04\00:27:39.96 Why would somebody who really wants directions 00:27:39.99\00:27:42.31 to get to a specific location get offended 00:27:42.34\00:27:45.04 when they say well sir, the direction say go--go left 00:27:45.07\00:27:49.06 and make two right turns then the last left 00:27:49.09\00:27:50.80 and then you'll find your direction. 00:27:50.83\00:27:52.89 The word of God is for instruction 00:27:52.92\00:27:55.63 and when people get offended by, it's a deeper issue. 00:27:55.66\00:27:59.32 It's the human pride of 00:27:59.35\00:28:01.45 I don't want to be even thought of 00:28:01.48\00:28:04.30 or labeled as being incorrect in my views. 00:28:04.33\00:28:07.21 And that's somehow this human pride issue has to die 00:28:07.24\00:28:10.17 in order for many people to come to the knowledge of the truth. 00:28:10.20\00:28:13.03 We sometimes don't like to date this program too much. 00:28:13.06\00:28:18.57 But recently-- Right. 00:28:18.60\00:28:20.09 We've heard of this great speech 00:28:20.12\00:28:24.04 that was given at the National Day of Prayer. 00:28:24.07\00:28:27.26 By Dr Ben Carson and he talked about political correctness. 00:28:27.29\00:28:31.23 One of his statements was, 00:28:31.26\00:28:33.07 we have to move past this point of being offended 00:28:33.10\00:28:35.77 by what something someone says. 00:28:35.80\00:28:38.41 Because we've become so enamored 00:28:38.44\00:28:41.09 with political correctness and not being offensive 00:28:41.12\00:28:43.24 to anybody that we're not having dialog anymore. 00:28:43.27\00:28:46.69 We're actually not trying to solve problems and issues 00:28:46.72\00:28:48.98 because you might offend me. 00:28:49.01\00:28:50.49 Right. And dialog is not happening. 00:28:50.52\00:28:52.77 No. And I would say even within 00:28:52.80\00:28:54.47 the Christian community the same thing is going on. 00:28:54.50\00:28:56.23 Now Christians say they love his speech. 00:28:56.26\00:28:59.77 They love how we need to get back 00:28:59.80\00:29:01.40 to solving problems and solving issues 00:29:01.43\00:29:03.32 and really talking about those issues 00:29:03.35\00:29:04.76 amongst both parties in our country. 00:29:04.79\00:29:07.81 But let me say, there are people that disagree 00:29:07.84\00:29:10.07 on both sides of some issues 00:29:10.10\00:29:11.47 within scripture amongst Christians. 00:29:11.50\00:29:14.74 Yet we can't--they don't want to talk about it. 00:29:14.77\00:29:16.14 We can't tolerate, it's not-you're offending me, 00:29:16.17\00:29:18.35 you're judging me. 00:29:18.38\00:29:20.12 I mean, a forum here 00:29:20.15\00:29:21.95 that we're talking a little bit about 00:29:21.98\00:29:24.83 Bible questions and things 00:29:24.86\00:29:26.23 and any time you type something in there 00:29:26.26\00:29:28.70 that goes against with someone else's beliefs, 00:29:28.73\00:29:31.74 they say you're judging. 00:29:31.77\00:29:34.10 And you know, I tried to post in there, no I'm not judging. 00:29:34.13\00:29:37.81 I'm judging you would be, 00:29:37.84\00:29:39.84 I'm judging whether you're saved or not 00:29:39.87\00:29:41.86 what your eternal salvation is. 00:29:41.89\00:29:43.52 And that's not what I'm doing. 00:29:43.55\00:29:45.18 We're called in scripture to discern right from wrong. 00:29:45.21\00:29:47.89 The judging I'm doing is discernment. 00:29:47.92\00:29:49.85 We need to discern from scripture whether or not 00:29:49.88\00:29:51.97 what we're living by is right or wrong. Right. 00:29:52.00\00:29:54.61 If that's offensive to you 00:29:54.64\00:29:56.01 you're never going to get to a point 00:29:56.04\00:29:57.41 where you're looking and finding truth. 00:29:57.44\00:29:59.93 You've got to agree to be offended to some degree 00:29:59.96\00:30:03.09 to be declared a sinner in need of Christ. Right. 00:30:03.12\00:30:06.15 If I was offended by being called a sinner, 00:30:06.18\00:30:08.83 I would never find Jesus. And now you see what-- 00:30:08.86\00:30:12.21 Jesus you're calling me a sinner, 00:30:12.24\00:30:13.78 who you call me a sinner. 00:30:13.81\00:30:15.18 I'm never gonna get to that step 00:30:15.21\00:30:16.58 where I can take my faith put in Christ 00:30:16.61\00:30:19.28 and move beyond myself the sinner into trusting him. 00:30:19.31\00:30:23.03 Now you see what Paul-- 00:30:23.06\00:30:24.43 this is your friends it seems strange 00:30:24.46\00:30:26.46 it almost sounds like its new and contemporary 00:30:26.49\00:30:28.57 but it's really old because Paul says 00:30:28.60\00:30:30.89 "Have I become your enemy because I tell you the truth." 00:30:30.92\00:30:35.69 See-- Good statement. 00:30:35.72\00:30:37.09 See, when he came and stood before a gripper 00:30:37.12\00:30:39.53 and he was in the judgment hall 00:30:39.56\00:30:40.93 and stood before feistiest 00:30:40.96\00:30:42.86 all this men have the same problem. 00:30:42.89\00:30:46.15 He said--a gripper said, oh wait 00:30:46.18\00:30:47.78 you've almost persuaded me 00:30:47.81\00:30:49.78 but I'd call you at a more convenient time. 00:30:49.81\00:30:53.80 And feistiest these men were offended by the truth, 00:30:53.83\00:30:56.65 that's why they decided to persecute Paul. 00:30:56.68\00:30:58.92 The same thing today. What is the issue? 00:30:58.95\00:31:01.42 The issue is the human heart. 00:31:01.45\00:31:03.30 The carnal mind is enmity against the law of God. 00:31:03.33\00:31:06.67 It is not subject to the law of God 00:31:06.70\00:31:09.49 neither it can it be 00:31:09.52\00:31:10.89 and I'll give that text in just a moment. 00:31:10.92\00:31:12.32 But we need a transition-- Yes, we do. 00:31:12.35\00:31:14.83 I'll tell you, if you're in Christ 00:31:14.86\00:31:16.33 these things don't offend you. 00:31:16.36\00:31:17.84 And somebody may say, 00:31:17.87\00:31:19.24 but there are lots of Christians 00:31:19.27\00:31:20.64 that are in Christ that are offended. 00:31:20.67\00:31:22.50 Oh, wait a minute you may feel that you're in Christ 00:31:22.53\00:31:25.46 but you cannot be. 00:31:25.49\00:31:27.34 You cannot be offended. 00:31:27.37\00:31:29.45 I think in Psalms 115, verse 00:31:29.48\00:31:32.34 I'll get the text in a moment--Psalms 165. 00:31:32.37\00:31:35.31 Psalms 119:165? 00:31:35.34\00:31:38.56 Psalms 119:165, 00:31:38.59\00:31:40.99 "Great peace have they that love thy law 00:31:41.02\00:31:43.78 and nothing shall offend them." 00:31:43.81\00:31:47.05 Said it. Yes. 00:31:47.08\00:31:48.58 Psalms 119:165 00:31:48.61\00:31:52.75 "Great peace have they that love thy law 00:31:52.78\00:31:54.84 and nothing" nothing "shall offend them." 00:31:54.87\00:31:59.00 If you love the law of God 00:31:59.03\00:32:00.40 you don't have any reason to even be offended 00:32:00.43\00:32:02.27 but you will be offended if I bring it up 00:32:02.30\00:32:04.84 and you don't love it. 00:32:04.87\00:32:06.24 Right. Okay. 00:32:06.27\00:32:08.01 Well, I know we've kind of open a can or worms there, 00:32:08.04\00:32:10.52 but that's what we do here at "House Calls." 00:32:10.55\00:32:11.95 We don't believe in talking to Christians 00:32:11.98\00:32:14.76 that are made of marshmallows. 00:32:14.79\00:32:16.16 If you want to be a strong soldier in the army of Christ 00:32:16.19\00:32:19.20 this is the program for you. 00:32:19.23\00:32:20.65 If you want to be a marshmallow Christian, 00:32:20.68\00:32:22.19 this program will melt you 00:32:22.22\00:32:23.82 and you'll liquefy somewhere in the room 00:32:23.85\00:32:27.04 because we believe in handling the truth of God. 00:32:27.07\00:32:29.59 Hopefully not offensively but we do believe in handling it, 00:32:29.62\00:32:32.28 because we love the Lord 00:32:32.31\00:32:33.72 and we want His people to understand all the truth. 00:32:33.75\00:32:36.30 Well if you have any Bible questions 00:32:36.33\00:32:37.74 you like to send to us. 00:32:37.77\00:32:39.55 If we've said something that may be opened, 00:32:39.58\00:32:41.93 opened another thought to you send it to housecalls@3abn.org 00:32:41.96\00:32:45.96 that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:32:45.99\00:32:49.86 And we thank you so much for all you do 00:32:49.89\00:32:51.64 for this network and for this program. 00:32:51.67\00:32:54.23 John, lead us into our topic for today. 00:32:54.26\00:32:58.45 In Christ we've used that term several times already today. 00:32:58.48\00:33:01.80 In Christ, what does that mean that be in Christ? 00:33:01.83\00:33:04.75 We want to cover this topic. 00:33:04.78\00:33:06.60 We want to handle this topic very carefully 00:33:06.63\00:33:09.53 but at the same time we recognize that 00:33:09.56\00:33:11.01 there're so common misconceptions 00:33:11.04\00:33:13.09 about what salvation, 00:33:13.12\00:33:14.49 the word salvation really means out there. 00:33:14.52\00:33:17.47 And of course that term in Christ 00:33:17.50\00:33:19.62 if you just type in any kind of Bible 00:33:19.65\00:33:22.18 online Bible source program and I couldn't code in so 00:33:22.21\00:33:24.85 or online program and typed "in Christ" with quotes, 00:33:24.88\00:33:28.42 you'll find a number of times 00:33:28.45\00:33:31.36 this specific phrase appears in the New Testament. 00:33:31.39\00:33:34.49 In Christ, in Christ, in Christ. 00:33:34.52\00:33:36.38 It's almost like Paul was obsessed, John, 00:33:36.41\00:33:39.89 with being in Christ and he was 00:33:39.92\00:33:43.32 because Christ is every thing to the Christian. 00:33:43.35\00:33:47.05 Somehow I think when we talk, 00:33:47.08\00:33:48.57 when people hear us talk about the law and the Sabbath, 00:33:48.60\00:33:51.88 they hear out of the context of Christ, 00:33:51.91\00:33:54.85 but what we're really saying is 00:33:54.88\00:33:56.60 when you're in Christ you also have His law. 00:33:56.63\00:33:59.72 And so it's not about law, 00:33:59.75\00:34:01.33 it's about the law that of Christ and who Christ is. 00:34:01.36\00:34:05.79 And He was the great giver of that law, 00:34:05.82\00:34:08.21 way back on Mount Sinai. 00:34:08.24\00:34:10.03 In fact, John, there is-- as I was doing some study 00:34:10.06\00:34:13.11 it was really a powerful thing. 00:34:13.14\00:34:15.98 The burning bush. Okay. 00:34:16.01\00:34:18.49 Moses met at the burning bush, the I am. That's right. 00:34:18.52\00:34:21.84 And when we said who may I have to tell 00:34:21.87\00:34:24.06 send me to deliver Israel. I am. 00:34:24.09\00:34:28.10 Jesus comes--New Testament and He says, I am. Right. 00:34:28.13\00:34:32.47 Jesus was at the burning bush. That's right. 00:34:32.50\00:34:35.15 That burning bush was at Sinai. That's right. 00:34:35.18\00:34:38.18 Later, the very place that God brought Moses 00:34:38.21\00:34:40.87 and the Israelites back to give the law. 00:34:40.90\00:34:43.95 Who gave the law on Mt. Sinai? 00:34:43.98\00:34:45.65 Jesus. That's right. 00:34:45.68\00:34:47.05 So if Jesus says, if you love Me, 00:34:47.08\00:34:48.55 keep My commandments. 00:34:48.58\00:34:50.42 There is a literalness to my. Right. 00:34:50.45\00:34:53.00 He actually did give them on Mt. Sinai. 00:34:53.03\00:34:55.57 So we say, well, I'm in Christ. 00:34:55.60\00:34:57.24 I believe in Christ and He is the embodiment of the law. 00:34:57.27\00:35:00.00 Yet, you disregard the Old Testament, 00:35:00.03\00:35:01.80 the very law He gave and He wrote 00:35:01.83\00:35:03.32 and stoned with His own finger. 00:35:03.35\00:35:05.00 There is a disconnection there. That's right. 00:35:05.03\00:35:06.93 So we are saying is when someone is in Christ, 00:35:06.96\00:35:09.27 when Paul is talking about being in Christ, 00:35:09.30\00:35:11.31 there is more that just saying Jesus is everything to me. 00:35:11.34\00:35:15.65 We need to find out what Jesus teaches? 00:35:15.68\00:35:18.18 The way He wants us to live? 00:35:18.21\00:35:20.03 How He wants us to act? 00:35:20.06\00:35:21.94 All these things are what we do 00:35:21.97\00:35:23.98 as in our relationship with Christ--being in Christ. 00:35:24.01\00:35:27.96 And so we want to talk about that term 00:35:27.99\00:35:29.84 and magnify the in Christ motive here today. 00:35:29.87\00:35:33.63 That's right. 00:35:33.66\00:35:35.03 By the way when John suggested that you do 00:35:35.06\00:35:37.95 a search in the New Testament on the phrase in Christ 00:35:37.98\00:35:42.51 there're in the New King James Version 85 references, 85. 00:35:42.54\00:35:48.86 There are more references to "in Christ" 00:35:48.89\00:35:52.07 than they are to the word "Sabbath" which is 60. 00:35:52.10\00:35:56.62 So you find 85 times and the question this day 00:35:56.65\00:35:59.99 when you made and I like that. 00:36:00.02\00:36:01.39 Paul was obsessed with the statement being in Christ. 00:36:01.42\00:36:04.22 Hey, we all should be obsessed with that 00:36:04.25\00:36:05.77 because if we are not in Christ we are in trouble. 00:36:05.80\00:36:08.31 Did you get that? 00:36:08.34\00:36:09.71 If we are not in Christ we are in trouble. 00:36:09.74\00:36:11.73 That's right. Can only be one or the other. 00:36:11.76\00:36:13.80 So let's start with the text, John, 00:36:13.83\00:36:17.17 that really is I think about it is the foundation text. 00:36:17.20\00:36:21.34 This text embodies salvation 00:36:21.37\00:36:24.18 in the context of the in Christ motive. 00:36:24.21\00:36:27.60 We use that phrase motive, for that word motive. 00:36:27.63\00:36:30.63 First let's go to 2 Corinthians 5:17. 00:36:30.66\00:36:32.92 Why don't we begin with that one? 00:36:32.95\00:36:34.35 Yeah, it says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, 00:36:34.38\00:36:37.67 he is a new creation, old things have passed away, 00:36:37.70\00:36:41.65 behold, all things have become new." 00:36:41.68\00:36:45.99 Powerful-- Right. 00:36:46.02\00:36:47.40 Because that is how we are made new. 00:36:47.43\00:36:50.87 Not because, we are new 00:36:50.90\00:36:52.27 but because Christ is new in everyway. 00:36:52.30\00:36:56.31 To understand that in a practical sense 00:36:56.34\00:36:59.16 if you put, if you go to the store 00:36:59.19\00:37:02.86 and each of the team players that play baseball-- 00:37:02.89\00:37:06.38 I'm in a sports mind today I don't know what happened. 00:37:06.41\00:37:09.09 And they all buy gloves baseballs gloves. 00:37:09.12\00:37:12.54 You couldn't really tell whether a white guy has on a glove, 00:37:12.57\00:37:15.86 a black guy has on a glove 00:37:15.89\00:37:17.82 and an Asian guy has on a glove. 00:37:17.85\00:37:19.22 You couldn't tell because his hand is in the glove. 00:37:19.25\00:37:21.73 What you see is the glove, so therefore, you'll say, wow. 00:37:21.76\00:37:26.68 Your hand looks different than it was before. 00:37:26.71\00:37:30.26 And he'll say, well actually the only difference is 00:37:30.29\00:37:32.59 it's covered with this glove. 00:37:32.62\00:37:34.44 Well, the reason why we appear different to the world is 00:37:34.47\00:37:37.51 because when we are in Christ we are new creations. 00:37:37.54\00:37:41.78 Well, that's a new idea what happened? 00:37:41.81\00:37:43.50 What's that called? It's a glove. 00:37:43.53\00:37:45.72 Whether it a catchers glove the bigger. 00:37:45.75\00:37:47.86 Whether it's an out fielders glove with a large webbing, 00:37:47.89\00:37:50.56 whether it's a first base glove with a curve on the side 00:37:50.59\00:37:53.20 or whether it's a batting glove 00:37:53.23\00:37:54.60 that just simply is slipped on to keep the hand 00:37:54.63\00:37:56.87 from being burned or from sliding. 00:37:56.90\00:37:59.03 Any time you're in something 00:37:59.06\00:38:00.70 what you were before does not appear. 00:38:00.73\00:38:03.35 And so when we are in Christ 00:38:03.38\00:38:04.80 the whole idea about being made new it cannot be-- 00:38:04.83\00:38:09.19 and this is what you've to get. 00:38:09.22\00:38:10.59 It's not just on the basis of accepting 00:38:10.62\00:38:12.15 certain tenets of the faith and saying well, 00:38:12.18\00:38:14.62 that's true, that's true, that's true. 00:38:14.65\00:38:16.59 Well, that's all of those things are true 00:38:16.62\00:38:18.79 but when you really boil it down, 00:38:18.82\00:38:20.68 you begin to see, okay, the reason why 00:38:20.71\00:38:22.72 this does matter is because I'm in Christ now. 00:38:22.75\00:38:26.62 Now you have to get this. 00:38:26.65\00:38:28.63 Whatever markings are on that glove, 00:38:28.66\00:38:30.47 whatever symbols are on that glove, 00:38:30.50\00:38:32.26 whatever name is on that glove all now appears 00:38:32.29\00:38:37.02 and it's a part of your hand as your hand moves. 00:38:37.05\00:38:39.91 So what you've to keep in mind is this very next text. 00:38:39.94\00:38:43.28 Go with me to Acts 17:28, Acts, 17:28, 00:38:43.31\00:38:49.18 talking about how the in Christ 00:38:49.21\00:38:51.14 and I use a little different phrase here 00:38:51.17\00:38:53.62 but it means the same thing. 00:38:53.65\00:38:56.08 Acts 17:28 read as follows. 00:38:56.11\00:38:59.15 "For in him we live," Hand in glove. 00:38:59.18\00:39:03.25 "We move and have our being." 00:39:03.28\00:39:07.61 In Him we live. 00:39:07.64\00:39:09.01 Our hand is still alive because we're living in Christ, 00:39:09.04\00:39:12.41 we move, we're now moving in Christ and we have our being. 00:39:12.44\00:39:15.68 We exist in Christ. 00:39:15.71\00:39:17.24 So the Christian lives in Christ. 00:39:17.27\00:39:19.68 When we move from day to day. 00:39:19.71\00:39:21.08 We move in Christ and in Him we have our being. 00:39:21.11\00:39:23.87 He is our source of strength. 00:39:23.90\00:39:25.46 He is our source of every aspect of our Christian life. 00:39:25.49\00:39:29.02 In Him we live and move and have our being. 00:39:29.05\00:39:30.78 But it's in Him the in Christ motive. John? 00:39:30.81\00:39:33.81 You know, I think one of the text 00:39:33.84\00:39:35.70 that really helps us amplify here 00:39:35.73\00:39:38.22 what we're talking about by being in Christ. 00:39:38.25\00:39:40.02 What's so important being in Christ 00:39:40.05\00:39:41.42 because we're talking about salvation? 00:39:41.45\00:39:44.91 And that is this thought 00:39:44.94\00:39:47.73 that I've used ever since you shared it back 00:39:47.76\00:39:50.05 and that may be you got it from somebody else as well before 00:39:50.08\00:39:52.16 but the 3 P's of salvation. 00:39:52.19\00:39:54.16 Well, I sure came up with that. 00:39:54.19\00:39:55.56 Okay, so I've been quoting 00:39:55.59\00:39:57.49 it's from you so it's a good thing. 00:39:57.52\00:40:00.03 The three ways that we're saved. 00:40:00.06\00:40:03.65 We're saved first of all from the penalty of sin. 00:40:03.68\00:40:07.04 That has been justified in Christ. 00:40:07.07\00:40:09.22 We're justified by His blood. 00:40:09.25\00:40:11.29 Then we're saved from the 2 P, the power of sin. 00:40:11.32\00:40:16.06 That is the sanctification process, 00:40:16.09\00:40:17.67 the growing in Christ, the deliverance from the power 00:40:17.70\00:40:19.95 it's the way the sin draws us in. 00:40:19.98\00:40:22.03 This is constant deliverance from that. 00:40:22.06\00:40:23.96 And then thirdly we're saved from the presence of sin. 00:40:23.99\00:40:26.30 That's our glorification, 00:40:26.33\00:40:27.70 that's at Christ return at the resurrection 00:40:27.73\00:40:30.07 where we're finally delivered from every, 00:40:30.10\00:40:33.79 every stain and presence of sin in our life 00:40:33.82\00:40:38.44 and that of course we don't get to experience now. 00:40:38.47\00:40:41.38 But these are the three ways that we're saved 00:40:41.41\00:40:42.97 and so if we emphasize 00:40:43.00\00:40:44.49 one of the other there is not a balance, 00:40:44.52\00:40:46.75 there's not a harmonious being in Christ 00:40:46.78\00:40:48.77 and how He saves us. 00:40:48.80\00:40:50.78 But He saves us and has saved us from this penalty 00:40:50.81\00:40:54.21 by His death on the cross. 00:40:54.24\00:40:55.61 And He continues to save us every day 00:40:55.64\00:40:57.08 from the power of sin as we're tempted. 00:40:57.11\00:40:59.48 And then will one day save us in glory 00:40:59.51\00:41:02.40 when He comes back to give us new bodies. 00:41:02.43\00:41:04.76 And so this is the salvation that we have 00:41:04.79\00:41:06.85 and so I share that because there's a text here 00:41:06.88\00:41:09.66 from 1 John Chapter 5, two verses together, 00:41:09.69\00:41:13.80 verses 11 and 12 are really important to help to amplify 00:41:13.83\00:41:17.54 as I said this in Christ concept here. 00:41:17.57\00:41:20.86 "And this is the testimony," verse 11. 00:41:20.89\00:41:23.54 "This is the testimony that God has given us eternal life 00:41:23.57\00:41:27.16 and this life is in his Son." 00:41:27.19\00:41:29.81 Okay, there is that in him. 00:41:29.84\00:41:31.63 Now look at this, verse 12, very plain. 00:41:31.66\00:41:34.64 "He who has the Son has life, 00:41:34.67\00:41:37.83 he who does not have the Son does not have life." 00:41:37.86\00:41:42.04 Simply plain--you can't get any more simple than that. 00:41:42.07\00:41:45.26 If you have Jesus, if you are in Him, life. 00:41:45.29\00:41:49.06 If you don't have Jesus, or if you are not Him, no life. 00:41:49.09\00:41:52.47 The question here that we need to ask ourselves 00:41:52.50\00:41:55.62 is everyday how do we put on Christ? 00:41:55.65\00:41:59.04 How do we--how can we be in Jesus everyday 00:41:59.07\00:42:02.34 from the moment we wake up 00:42:02.37\00:42:03.85 until the day the moment we sleep each evening. 00:42:03.88\00:42:07.17 Well, let me answer that question 00:42:07.20\00:42:08.57 with my favorite Bible text. 00:42:08.60\00:42:09.97 How do we? What actually would we be doing 00:42:10.00\00:42:13.75 if we said we put on Christ? 00:42:13.78\00:42:15.77 Go with us to Romans Chapter 13, 00:42:15.80\00:42:18.95 if you've ever been to one of my concerts 00:42:18.98\00:42:21.19 and I sing also, I always write this scripture 00:42:21.22\00:42:24.72 on the face of the CD. 00:42:24.75\00:42:28.68 So if you're trying to figure out what that scribble is, 00:42:28.71\00:42:31.22 this--this is the text, all right. 00:42:31.25\00:42:35.21 Romans Chapter 13 beginning with verse 11. 00:42:35.24\00:42:37.28 This what it means to put on Christ, this what it means to. 00:42:37.31\00:42:40.85 And by the way, earlier we read verses 8 down to 10 00:42:40.88\00:42:44.86 the fulfillment of the law. 00:42:44.89\00:42:46.26 But here's what it adds as the other responsibility. 00:42:46.29\00:42:50.25 "And do this, knowing the time, 00:42:50.28\00:42:52.93 that now it is high time to awake out of sleep, 00:42:52.96\00:42:56.56 for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 00:42:56.59\00:43:01.26 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. 00:43:01.29\00:43:03.01 Therefore let us," 00:43:03.04\00:43:04.41 and this is what you do when you're in Christ. 00:43:04.44\00:43:06.04 "Cast off the works of darkness, 00:43:06.07\00:43:08.23 and let us put on the armor of light. 00:43:08.26\00:43:12.71 Let us walk properly or honestly, as in the day, 00:43:12.74\00:43:16.95 not in revelry and drunkenness, 00:43:16.98\00:43:19.17 not in licentiousness and lewdness, 00:43:19.20\00:43:22.05 not in strife and envy. 00:43:22.08\00:43:23.82 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision 00:43:23.85\00:43:28.17 for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." 00:43:28.20\00:43:31.00 Or as the King James says, the lust thereof. 00:43:31.03\00:43:33.56 So if you notice this, 00:43:33.59\00:43:34.96 this gives us some more specifics. 00:43:34.99\00:43:36.52 What should you not do? 00:43:36.55\00:43:38.03 Well don't make provision for the flesh. 00:43:38.06\00:43:39.43 If you are in Christ, cast off the works of darkness, 00:43:39.46\00:43:42.27 get away from revelry that is partying. 00:43:42.30\00:43:45.68 That's what that in essence is saying. 00:43:45.71\00:43:47.55 This lewd parties, revelry and drunkenness and licentiousness, 00:43:47.58\00:43:51.64 that's sexual immorality and lewdness 00:43:51.67\00:43:54.28 and there's so much of this in world, 00:43:54.31\00:43:55.68 not in strife and envy, no content against yourself, 00:43:55.71\00:43:58.70 no being--I wish I had that, no I'm envious of you, 00:43:58.73\00:44:01.79 get away from all that and put on the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:44:01.82\00:44:04.20 And when you're in Christ these things die 00:44:04.23\00:44:06.72 because you can't have, you can't have, 00:44:06.75\00:44:10.46 you can't have old--you can't have new wine in old wineskins. 00:44:10.49\00:44:16.39 Okay, it's not going to work, see. 00:44:16.42\00:44:19.63 So if we have--if we are gonna be in Christ, 00:44:19.66\00:44:22.02 if anyone is in Christ, he is new, 00:44:22.05\00:44:23.79 because Christ is never old, you see. 00:44:23.82\00:44:26.71 See, but the issue here this really interesting on that, 00:44:26.74\00:44:29.15 and I love that response because you're saying 00:44:29.18\00:44:31.23 that we actually need to put Him on. 00:44:31.26\00:44:34.08 Right. 00:44:34.11\00:44:35.48 'Cause, but we've heard Christ has done everything for us, 00:44:35.51\00:44:38.51 just believe. 00:44:38.54\00:44:40.20 Well, part of believing in Jesus is putting Him on. 00:44:40.23\00:44:44.12 Right. 00:44:44.15\00:44:45.52 Wearing His righteousness, 00:44:45.55\00:44:47.64 adopting His ways, His teachings. 00:44:47.67\00:44:51.54 That's what disciple means. Right. 00:44:51.57\00:44:53.26 Disciple of Christ is you're a learner in His school. 00:44:53.29\00:44:56.91 He is the master, you're the disciple. 00:44:56.94\00:44:58.97 And so putting on is what we do 00:44:59.00\00:45:02.60 and it's done by choice everyday. 00:45:02.63\00:45:04.84 We choose to put on Christ and so let's not think 00:45:04.87\00:45:08.63 that how we live our Christian life, 00:45:08.66\00:45:11.92 it doesn't matter. That's a sad reality. 00:45:11.95\00:45:14.63 Because it does matter. 00:45:14.66\00:45:16.37 If we have put on Christ, we will not be living lustfully, 00:45:16.40\00:45:21.54 we won't be drunk, we won't be in strife or envy 00:45:21.57\00:45:24.72 or revelry or the different things 00:45:24.75\00:45:27.29 he's talking about here and there 00:45:27.32\00:45:28.69 are lots of other list in the New Testament. 00:45:28.72\00:45:30.21 Those things we have cast off in favor of putting on Christ. 00:45:30.24\00:45:36.10 And so that's something that happens every day, 00:45:36.13\00:45:38.39 in fact, Paul says, "I die daily." 00:45:38.42\00:45:41.00 Every day he put on Christ and in fact he expounds on that 00:45:41.03\00:45:45.50 in Ephesians 6 the whole armor of God. 00:45:45.53\00:45:49.39 So, John, this idea then that 00:45:49.42\00:45:53.00 just because Jesus is everything for us 00:45:53.03\00:45:55.45 and we are in Christ doesn't mean that 00:45:55.48\00:45:57.01 there's something--there is a decision that has to been made 00:45:57.04\00:45:59.18 to put Him on. 00:45:59.21\00:46:00.58 Actually wear His ways and His purposes 00:46:00.61\00:46:04.38 and His will for our life. 00:46:04.41\00:46:06.05 In the same way the baseball player 00:46:06.08\00:46:08.26 has to make a decision to put the glove on, 00:46:08.29\00:46:10.22 we have to do the same thing day by day. 00:46:10.25\00:46:12.80 And now I want you to catch this whole idea 00:46:12.83\00:46:16.21 when we put on Christ, it's not that 00:46:16.24\00:46:18.39 when we go to bed at night, we take them off 00:46:18.42\00:46:19.90 and put them on and take them off 00:46:19.93\00:46:21.30 and put them on, I don't want to sound that way ritualistic. 00:46:21.33\00:46:24.08 But by the decisions we make, we are either abiding in Him. 00:46:24.11\00:46:29.16 And, John, you talked about this before the program started. 00:46:29.19\00:46:31.36 You may want to go to John 15 and talk about this whole thing. 00:46:31.39\00:46:34.29 When you put on Christ, let's go back to the glove example 00:46:34.32\00:46:38.96 that kind of worked earlier so let's stick with it. 00:46:38.99\00:46:41.27 If you put on the glove and always wore it, you'll go beyond 00:46:41.30\00:46:45.74 just the phrase of, hey, he put on a glove. 00:46:45.77\00:46:48.31 You say, no, man, he is living in that glove. 00:46:48.34\00:46:51.16 Like a kid when you first gets a baseball glove--I remember, 00:46:51.19\00:46:54.20 when I first got a baseball glove, 00:46:54.23\00:46:55.72 you know, how little boys are they get that 00:46:55.75\00:46:57.12 first pair of baseball glove, they go to bed with it. 00:46:57.15\00:46:59.04 They sleep with that like a pillow. 00:46:59.07\00:47:01.19 That's right. 00:47:01.22\00:47:02.59 You know, they have this affection 00:47:02.62\00:47:04.10 to that baseball glove, they never have one. 00:47:04.13\00:47:05.94 Oh, daddy got me a baseball glove, 00:47:05.97\00:47:07.52 mommy got me a baseball glove. 00:47:07.55\00:47:09.09 As I Tommy, we are going to church 00:47:09.12\00:47:11.51 leave your baseball glove in home. 00:47:11.54\00:47:13.06 Do I have to? 00:47:13.09\00:47:14.53 They have just had in such a connection. 00:47:14.56\00:47:16.50 They are abiding in that relationship. 00:47:16.53\00:47:18.88 That's what it's in essence saying. 00:47:18.91\00:47:20.28 You don't just, and John 15, maybe you're there or not. 00:47:20.31\00:47:22.79 No, I was actually, I was gonna segue there, 00:47:22.82\00:47:24.70 because 1 John talks about this abiding. 00:47:24.73\00:47:27.84 Okay, let's do that. 00:47:27.87\00:47:29.24 But we ask a question about what it means then to put Christ on. 00:47:29.27\00:47:33.57 And so just in a few verses here all from 1John, 00:47:33.60\00:47:37.07 first of all we read 1 John 2:5. 00:47:37.10\00:47:40.19 "But whoever keeps His word, 00:47:40.22\00:47:42.47 truly the love of God is perfected in him. 00:47:42.50\00:47:45.82 By this we know that we are in Him." 00:47:45.85\00:47:49.25 So when you are in Him you are keeping His word 00:47:49.28\00:47:52.45 and the love of God has been perfected in you. 00:47:52.48\00:47:54.69 That's huge. It is. 00:47:54.72\00:47:56.49 Because the statement ago, a moment ago we talked about 00:47:56.52\00:47:59.44 somebody who looked at the word of God 00:47:59.47\00:48:00.84 and said it doesn't apply anymore. 00:48:00.87\00:48:02.24 Yeah. 00:48:02.27\00:48:04.46 And Jesus said, "We live by every word that proceeds 00:48:04.49\00:48:06.91 from the mouth of God." 00:48:06.94\00:48:08.31 So you see how this comes backs to what Jesus said not so much, 00:48:08.34\00:48:11.17 the cornucopia ideology that while if it's not in the head 00:48:11.20\00:48:15.65 I don't it, you see. 00:48:15.68\00:48:17.36 If it's not in the New Testament, I don't live by it. 00:48:17.39\00:48:19.68 It's the politicians speaking here by just saying enough, 00:48:19.71\00:48:21.76 the Old Testament doesn't matter. 00:48:21.79\00:48:23.48 It doesn't make it true? No. 00:48:23.51\00:48:25.14 It just makes people believe it. 00:48:25.17\00:48:26.69 Yeah, I don't want to say that word cornucopia out there 00:48:26.72\00:48:28.43 because that's probably a foreign word to somebody 00:48:28.46\00:48:30.10 and-- what's a cornucopia? 00:48:30.13\00:48:32.32 It's a gigantic thanksgiving hat. 00:48:32.35\00:48:35.42 Put everything inside of it, but anyway-- 00:48:35.45\00:48:38.37 Not use for a hat but-- Yeah. 00:48:38.40\00:48:40.68 Here is another one, 1 John saying in my book 3:3. 00:48:40.71\00:48:47.31 Notice this, "And everyone who has this hope in Him 00:48:47.34\00:48:50.28 purifies himself, just as He is pure." 00:48:50.31\00:48:53.34 Do you see the modifying of the behavior 00:48:53.37\00:48:55.00 the changing of the behavior to fit with Christ behavior, 00:48:55.03\00:48:58.41 to want to mimic and be like Jesus to exemplify Jesus? 00:48:58.44\00:49:02.50 And notice what it says, "He that has hopes in him, 00:49:02.53\00:49:05.25 purify himself." 00:49:05.28\00:49:06.65 In other words you make sure you make pure choices. 00:49:06.68\00:49:08.82 There is a program actually on 3ABN, 00:49:08.85\00:49:10.61 I think on "Dare to Dream" called "Pure Choices." 00:49:10.64\00:49:13.00 It's a beautiful program, I don't know 00:49:13.03\00:49:14.62 if they use this as a springboard text. 00:49:14.65\00:49:16.70 But we have this hope we purify ourselves that is we keep make 00:49:16.73\00:49:21.88 pure choices even as he is pure, Christ is pure. 00:49:21.91\00:49:27.48 We got to make choices as the Bible says, 00:49:27.51\00:49:30.16 "Blessed is He that keeps His garment." 00:49:30.19\00:49:32.75 Well, who's the garment? Belonged to Christ. 00:49:32.78\00:49:35.86 But you got to keep that garment. 00:49:35.89\00:49:37.38 You got to maintain, you have to abide 00:49:37.41\00:49:40.05 and you have to take that garment with you 00:49:40.08\00:49:43.47 throughout your daily life. 00:49:43.50\00:49:44.87 Make choices in harmony with that garment. 00:49:44.90\00:49:46.90 You know, John uses sports illustration even further. 00:49:46.93\00:49:50.13 It's really working a whole lot today. 00:49:50.16\00:49:51.83 So forgive me if you don't like sports. 00:49:51.86\00:49:54.05 But can you imagine a person on the St. Louis Cardinals 00:49:54.08\00:49:58.14 coming out of the Pittsburgh Pirates dugout. 00:49:58.17\00:50:02.62 Hanging out with the guys there. 00:50:02.65\00:50:05.03 No, and then when the guys comes up to bat from Pittsburgh, 00:50:05.06\00:50:08.37 he's in a Cardinals outfit, just wait a minute, 00:50:08.40\00:50:11.69 what are you doing in that, what are you doing? 00:50:11.72\00:50:13.81 You have on a uniform. 00:50:13.84\00:50:15.21 Why you on the other team when you have our uniform? 00:50:15.24\00:50:18.33 In the very same way we cannot say we are in Christ 00:50:18.36\00:50:21.87 and live on the other team. 00:50:21.90\00:50:25.03 We can't play with the other team. 00:50:25.06\00:50:27.88 We can't hang out with the other team. 00:50:27.91\00:50:30.52 You can't say you're in Christ and hang out with the world 00:50:30.55\00:50:33.30 and do the things of the world, and live like the world 00:50:33.33\00:50:36.58 because the uniform denotes that you are, 00:50:36.61\00:50:39.16 hey, you are on the wrong team. 00:50:39.19\00:50:40.88 So if you are in Christ, stay on this team 00:50:40.91\00:50:43.06 that has everything that associates with Christ. 00:50:43.09\00:50:46.75 I almost--I want to go to the place where, 00:50:46.78\00:50:49.12 you know, talking about putting on this garment. 00:50:49.15\00:50:50.58 We are gonna cover in our next program. 00:50:50.61\00:50:51.99 Okay. Now, we will. 00:50:52.02\00:50:53.39 But I do want to cover one last motive if you will or connection 00:50:53.42\00:50:59.26 to what it means to be in Christ. 00:50:59.29\00:51:01.14 And again I'm still in 1 John look at Chapter 3:24. 00:51:01.17\00:51:05.71 "Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him." 00:51:05.74\00:51:10.89 So now being in Him requires an abiding period of time, 00:51:10.92\00:51:16.14 a presence. 00:51:16.17\00:51:17.54 I like one preacher, I think it was David Asscherick, 00:51:17.57\00:51:19.35 he said, to abide you must reside. 00:51:19.38\00:51:22.66 Very good. Okay. 00:51:22.69\00:51:24.06 So to abide in someone, you have to be in close proximity. 00:51:24.09\00:51:26.37 You have to be there with that individual. 00:51:26.40\00:51:28.95 And so abiding is required to be in Christ. 00:51:28.98\00:51:33.95 "So keeping His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. 00:51:33.98\00:51:38.39 And by this we know that he abides in us, 00:51:38.42\00:51:41.38 by the Spirit whom he has given us." 00:51:41.41\00:51:44.22 So this ordering of a life and harmony with Christ 00:51:44.25\00:51:47.82 we've talked about this purifying ourselves 00:51:47.85\00:51:49.83 and acting like Him. 00:51:49.86\00:51:51.23 It also involves keeping His commandments. 00:51:51.26\00:51:53.99 And by keeping His commandments, we abide in Him. 00:51:54.02\00:51:56.73 And so now we go to John 15, which is where you want to go 00:51:56.76\00:52:00.04 with this abiding in Him, because that's what John. 00:52:00.07\00:52:03.66 John is big on this abiding, John is the one 00:52:03.69\00:52:06.35 that really talks about abiding in Christ over and over again 00:52:06.38\00:52:09.93 in this gospel and again in this epistle here. 00:52:09.96\00:52:12.48 Because John had that kind of connection with Christ, 00:52:12.51\00:52:14.83 he being the youngest disciple. 00:52:14.86\00:52:17.03 What is the picture in fact of him at the last supper, 00:52:17.06\00:52:21.70 where was he? Leaning on Christ. 00:52:21.73\00:52:24.22 Leaning on the breast of Christ, you know, abiding very close. 00:52:24.25\00:52:28.55 So he made it very clear all throughout the Book of John 00:52:28.58\00:52:32.42 Chapter 15 for example verse 5, John 15:4. 00:52:32.45\00:52:39.06 Start with verse 4 down to verse well-- 00:52:39.09\00:52:45.28 It's all. It's all through there. 00:52:45.31\00:52:47.37 Look at John 15, start from verse 4 down to verse 10. 00:52:47.40\00:52:50.61 It's a long reading but we'll go very quickly. 00:52:50.64\00:52:52.80 "Abide in me" Jesus says in verse 4 "and I in you. 00:52:52.83\00:52:56.18 As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, 00:52:56.21\00:52:59.15 unless it abides in the vine, 00:52:59.18\00:53:00.80 neither can you, unless you abide in me. 00:53:00.83\00:53:03.27 I am the vine, you are the branches. 00:53:03.30\00:53:05.56 He who abides in me and I in him bears much fruit, 00:53:05.59\00:53:09.68 for without me you can do nothing." 00:53:09.71\00:53:11.75 John, pickup verse 6. 00:53:11.78\00:53:13.54 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch 00:53:13.57\00:53:17.63 and is withered, and they gather them 00:53:17.66\00:53:20.22 and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 00:53:20.25\00:53:23.67 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, 00:53:23.70\00:53:26.41 you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 00:53:26.44\00:53:29.68 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, 00:53:29.71\00:53:33.25 so you will be My disciples. 00:53:33.28\00:53:35.46 As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you, 00:53:35.49\00:53:38.72 abide in My love." And verse 15. 00:53:38.75\00:53:41.33 "If you keep my commands, you will abide in my love, 00:53:41.36\00:53:44.79 just as I have kept my Father's commandments 00:53:44.82\00:53:47.19 and abide in his love." 00:53:47.22\00:53:48.91 Okay, so you cannot abide in Christ and say, 00:53:48.94\00:53:53.19 but those commandments they don't really matter anymore. 00:53:53.22\00:53:57.55 But it's all about Jesus. 00:53:57.58\00:53:59.42 See that's all of a sudden that's a oxymoronic, 00:53:59.45\00:54:02.96 what do you call a statement it's diametrically, 00:54:02.99\00:54:05.43 these things are diametrically appose but we put them together. 00:54:05.46\00:54:08.54 I mean, Jesus but all of His commandments. 00:54:08.57\00:54:11.87 Sabbath is an important. Right. 00:54:11.90\00:54:14.07 It's all part of the abiding process. 00:54:14.10\00:54:16.51 It really--we don't want to hammer the point home 00:54:16.54\00:54:19.26 but we do want to hammer the point home. 00:54:19.29\00:54:22.06 We want to make it very clear that the requirements of Christ 00:54:22.09\00:54:25.70 are so necessary. 00:54:25.73\00:54:28.25 As a matter of fact continuing in that whole ideology 00:54:28.28\00:54:31.40 you have to follow first of all what happens 00:54:31.43\00:54:34.53 when we ignore the commandments. 00:54:34.56\00:54:36.48 Well, the wages of sin is dead. 00:54:36.51\00:54:40.20 When you go to Romans Chapter3 look at verse 23 and 24. 00:54:40.23\00:54:44.01 Romans 3:23 reads as follows. 00:54:44.04\00:54:47.14 "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." 00:54:47.17\00:54:53.55 But Romans 3:24 now adds it in. 00:54:53.58\00:54:57.63 "Being justified freely by His grace 00:54:57.66\00:55:02.30 through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." 00:55:02.33\00:55:06.90 So yes we've all sinned. What does that mean? 00:55:06.93\00:55:09.55 We've all violated the commandments of God, 00:55:09.58\00:55:11.75 we've lived outside of harmony with God' law. 00:55:11.78\00:55:14.70 But when you justified freely 00:55:14.73\00:55:17.73 what is that bring you in harmony with, 00:55:17.76\00:55:19.51 in harmony with His law? 00:55:19.54\00:55:22.23 So He says, if you love me keep them. 00:55:22.26\00:55:25.09 And when we are in harmony with him, 00:55:25.12\00:55:26.58 that no longer is an issue 00:55:26.61\00:55:27.98 that's why the in Christ motive is so significantly important. 00:55:28.01\00:55:31.33 And just kind of as a segue to our next program, 00:55:31.36\00:55:34.16 because we're gonna continue this topic 00:55:34.19\00:55:35.59 in the very next program, 'cause there is all this things 00:55:35.62\00:55:40.24 are important to understand in a principled way, 00:55:40.27\00:55:43.23 but we need to make them part of the practical life. 00:55:43.26\00:55:46.03 And so this is why I love the words of Paul, 00:55:46.06\00:55:48.27 2 Corinthians13:5, "Examine yourselves, 00:55:48.30\00:55:52.12 as to whether you are in the faith." 00:55:52.15\00:55:54.58 Okay. "Test yourselves. 00:55:54.61\00:55:57.21 Do you not know yourself that Jesus Christ is in you 00:55:57.24\00:56:01.00 unless indeed you are," what? 00:56:01.03\00:56:03.33 Disqualified. "Disqualified." 00:56:03.36\00:56:05.44 We're gonna talk about that word disqualified, 00:56:05.47\00:56:07.37 what is it mean? 00:56:07.40\00:56:08.89 Is it possible to be in Christ one day 00:56:08.92\00:56:11.85 and then to not be in Christ another day. 00:56:11.88\00:56:15.25 Can that happen? 00:56:15.28\00:56:16.65 Does the scripture talk about 00:56:16.68\00:56:18.60 our need to continually examine ourselves to make sure 00:56:18.63\00:56:21.08 that we are in the faith? 00:56:21.11\00:56:22.60 That's what I believe this text here is suggesting. 00:56:22.63\00:56:26.26 And so there are lots of things that we're gonna bring into it, 00:56:26.29\00:56:28.66 but we really want you to stay with us for that, 00:56:28.69\00:56:30.42 'cause it's exciting. 00:56:30.45\00:56:32.61 The other one I want to bring out 00:56:32.64\00:56:34.01 is Roman 6:11, Roman 6:11. 00:56:34.04\00:56:37.32 And what I've actually done 00:56:37.35\00:56:38.72 and you could do this too at home if you like 00:56:38.75\00:56:40.96 this one the Bible says, 00:56:40.99\00:56:42.36 "Likewise you also, reckon yourselves 00:56:42.39\00:56:45.24 to be dead indeed to sin, 00:56:45.27\00:56:47.04 but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:56:47.07\00:56:52.00 So what does that mean? 00:56:52.03\00:56:53.50 If you are no longer living for yourself 00:56:53.53\00:56:56.14 you reckon yourself to be dead and alive to Christ. 00:56:56.17\00:57:00.01 It is hard to die to self, to die to those sinful practices 00:57:00.04\00:57:03.86 that we've done all our life, 00:57:03.89\00:57:05.26 but in Christ He will deliver us. 00:57:05.29\00:57:08.11 Not only does He promise to be our savior 00:57:08.14\00:57:10.53 He promises to be our Lord and to move us 00:57:10.56\00:57:14.34 and to give us strength and power 00:57:14.37\00:57:15.74 away from the life of sin to live a life of righteousness. 00:57:15.77\00:57:18.47 That right, and, John, you know, the reality of this reference is 00:57:18.50\00:57:21.11 we'll never know that joy we'll never understand 00:57:21.14\00:57:23.21 the power of what it means to be in Christ 00:57:23.24\00:57:25.70 until we pray the prayer Lord allow me to die to self. 00:57:25.73\00:57:28.82 So until we see you again may the Lord bless you 00:57:28.85\00:57:30.88 and have a great day in Christ. 00:57:30.91\00:57:33.28
