Well, let's take a
look at what the Bible

actually does say about dancing.

First of all, we will
go to the probably the most

popular text about
this. David dancing before

the Lord and you will find that

in 2nd Samuel
chapter 6 verse 14.

Okay. Verse 14 it says

a little history of this here.

The, the Ark of
the Covenant was away

from the city of
David for a while.

And in fact God had
blessed the house of

Obed-edom for a
period of time when the Ark

was left there and
now the Ark is coming back

into the city of David
and here's what David did.

It says then David
danced before the Lord

with all his might and
David was wearing a linen ephod.

And so we see here
that David is rejoicing,

dancing before the
Lord because of the fact

that the Ark is
coming back into the presence

and his presence but
also the city of David,

the city what it's meant to be.

Now let's contrast
that here with another type

in Matthew chapter 14.

his pleasure that he had by the

Ark coming back
into the city of David.

Matthew Chapter 14.

Okay, and we will look at
another type of dance here.

Fourteen verse 6,
it's Herod birthday

and boy he was
having a party, wasn't he?

But little did he
know that someone else had

some other
plans and so Herodias,

his mistress at the
time wanted to have John the

Baptist killed and so
at this party where we're

sure that drinking
is happening and other
00:04:33.49\00:04:35.17
things were going on
that weren't righteous
00:04:35.18\00:04:37.15
by any means. We find Herodias'
00:04:37.50\00:04:40.05
daughter doing
something for King Herod.

It says in verse 6
but when Herod birthday

was celebrated the
daughter of Herodias
00:04:45.29\00:04:47.45
danced before
them and pleased who?

Pleased Herod. Oh so much.

Notice there is a
difference here in the

pleasure or the
dancing as to who the dancing

is intended
for. David is dancing

before the Lord
to please the Lord

and to show his own
pleasure for a righteous
00:05:01.53\00:05:04.45
thing that is
happening in fact that the

Ark of the Covenant
is coming into the city.

Now we have Herodias'
daughter dancing before
00:05:07.82\00:05:10.96
Herod to please
Herod and many who have
00:05:10.97\00:05:13.95
read this text
understand that this was
00:05:13.96\00:05:15.58
probably a very
provocative dance.

And we are seeing John
I believe we are seeing

today more of that
second type of dancing
00:05:20.73\00:05:25.19
then we are
seeing the first type.

Can you say, says it is true?

That's true. In
fact I used to be in the

world and I know
that you are in the same

place where there
are clubs were going on,

the music was pumping
and people were dancing.

And boy, the kind
of dancing that was
00:05:36.44\00:05:37.77
going on wasn't
pleasing to the Lord,

I can tell you right
now. But what was happening

more often
especially as the day grown more

into from the time
in which I was living in
00:05:45.39\00:05:48.25
and dancing around
and doing the club hopping

and so forth to
now. We see a much more

of kind of an
erotic, kind of a suggestive
00:05:52.84\00:05:57.17
kind of dancing that's going
00:05:57.18\00:05:58.34
on between with young people.

And in fact I believe
that what that is in fact

doing is it's
causing a lot of rapid
00:06:02.42\00:06:05.60
sexual issues and
promise that we've got today

and this is not just
dancing its doing that

there is other
things causing that but this
00:06:09.86\00:06:11.27
contributes to
it. And so I believe

probably most of the
elders in your church

that are saying
that dancing is not

appropriate or referring
to that kind of dancing.

The kind of dancing
that is not pleasing to

the Lord but
pleasing to those that you're

dancing with and
something that is not
00:06:26.36\00:06:28.73
good for your life I would say.

But I will also say this John.

There is an appropriate
kind of dancing and the

Bible refers to
this several times.

Just give a few
texts Psalm 149 verse 3,

Psalm 150 verse 4,
Ecclesiastes 3 verse 4.

All those text refer to
a type of dancing that is

permitted and we
even to this day see that

kind of dancing going on
within the Jewish community.

Those who gather
together in their
00:06:53.33\00:06:54.65
synagogues and so forth,

there is an
appropriate kind of dance.

And I don't find
any problem with that.

And you know what?
The Bible points out

friends and many
of you don't know this

but the dancing
that was traditional

was a whirling
around. Not a gyration

of one's hips, not a
seductive what I would say.

Suggestive. Mind
altering suggestive

kind of a dance that
accentuated the physical

because they
were very, very modest

in what they
were. And then the women

didn't dance with
the men and vice versa,

it was men who
were doing this dancing.

and it's very customary,
very traditional but it's

used today in the

Where the movement is
more of the focal point

glory that's going to God.

If the Lord did like David

When the Lord
delivers you from a difficult

situation like
he delivered David a

number of times of
course you will have

something to dance
about and rejoice about.

And so many times
I have seen people at

football games.
Their team will be

winning and they are
jumping up and down like crazy.

that. They're rejoicing,

their heads out.
I find it difficult

that God is saying
to Christians you should

be totally
non-emotional. I will some most

magnificent things for
you, if we could rejoice

about oblong pigs can
ball caught a football

going through some
metal goal post or a basket,

basketball made of leather going

through some silk
cords, we could rejoice about

what God has done
for us. That's right.

But it has to be
in a right context.

Not for the purpose
of dancing alone but for

the purpose of rejoicing
and giving God the glory.

examples for her kids
in school where she has

said many times
to a lot of the kids

that have said
well. Now why can I have

these video games you
know they shoot them up,

you know bang him up
video games and stuff.

And she will say
are you comfortable

playing this
video game with Jesus?

Because if you have no comfort,

if you can't be comfortable
playing this with Jesus.

There by your side;
you shouldn't be doing

it in the first place.
And many of them go oh no

I wouldn't play
this game with Jesus.

shouldn't be doing that.

The question is can
you dance that dance

before Jesus that
people do in clubs today.

David was comfortable

Lord. The Lord was there

with him and he danced
comfortably before Him.

significant in that John

because it shows
that David was doing

something from his own
heart for the Lord specifically.

be pleasing the Lord

from the dancing we see today.

some people even go so far.

referred to as extremist

God that's exuding from that.

he said they told me that

in mind is there is so

saying to the dance

is the cultural
aspect. But you go to some

We have a very heady

America, where it has to be

high brawl in order
for it to be religious,

that's not scriptural
because people praise God

that are found in Christian

definitely influenced by culture
