Hello friends, grab your Bible and a friend 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 and sit back as we explore God's word together 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.15 on this edition of House Calls. 00:00:05.16\00:00:07.40 Hello friends, welcome to another day where 00:00:22.66\00:00:24.45 we open the word of God together. 00:00:24.46\00:00:25.88 My name is John Lomacang and I have to my right, 00:00:26.45\00:00:29.01 my good friend, Pastor C.A. Murray, 00:00:29.02\00:00:30.76 good to have you here C.A. 00:00:30.77\00:00:31.74 Oh! It's good to be here with you John. 00:00:31.75\00:00:32.72 I tell you, we are enjoying something 00:00:32.73\00:00:34.76 that the Lord has done for us. 00:00:34.77\00:00:36.02 He has given us nice weather here in 00:00:36.03\00:00:38.32 Southern Illinois, we had a lot of snow last week. 00:00:38.33\00:00:40.50 And now we don't have any. Yeah, snow's all gone. 00:00:40.51\00:00:43.66 It's all gone. Little warm. And our hearts 00:00:43.67\00:00:45.78 are warmed also by the presence of 00:00:45.79\00:00:47.41 the Lord today. So, friends thank you 00:00:47.42\00:00:48.72 for tuning in. Sit down, get yourself 00:00:48.73\00:00:50.89 a comfortable seat, get your Bibles, 00:00:50.90\00:00:53.04 get your pens and if you have the Internet, remember 00:00:53.05\00:00:55.82 this email address housecalls@3abn.org, 00:00:55.83\00:00:59.73 that's the place you send your questions 00:00:59.74\00:01:01.58 whenever you have any. And we have been 00:01:01.59\00:01:04.31 talking about the subjects of a number of things, 00:01:04.32\00:01:07.21 but we are going to do two things today, 00:01:08.10\00:01:10.94 start a new subject, the topic of money. 00:01:10.95\00:01:13.93 Don't get nervous now, we're not gonna 00:01:13.94\00:01:15.50 ask you to send any checks. We're gonna be 00:01:15.51\00:01:17.59 talking about what the word of God says 00:01:17.60\00:01:18.80 about money. One of the most prevalent topics 00:01:18.81\00:01:21.94 referred to in scripture, and C.A. 00:01:21.95\00:01:24.14 it's amazing how people just don't like to talk 00:01:24.15\00:01:26.15 about money, but the Lord talked about it 00:01:26.16\00:01:27.67 quite a bit. Quite a bit, quite a bit. 00:01:27.68\00:01:29.24 And so, before we're going to our topic, 00:01:29.25\00:01:30.82 so why don't you lead us before the throne of 00:01:30.83\00:01:32.50 grace in prayer. Be glad to do so. Okay. 00:01:32.51\00:01:34.28 Father God, we praise you and thank you for 00:01:34.80\00:01:36.77 another day of life, another day of living for 00:01:36.78\00:01:40.49 you and service in your cause, we thank 00:01:40.50\00:01:42.61 you for the call that brought us from 00:01:42.62\00:01:43.81 darkness to light and we thank you for the way 00:01:43.82\00:01:45.95 that is lighted before us, that leads to our 00:01:45.96\00:01:49.24 heavenly home. Now, Father, as we study, 00:01:49.25\00:01:51.58 open our hearts, open our minds, make us receptive, 00:01:51.59\00:01:54.24 help us to understand, not to be just hearers 00:01:54.25\00:01:56.79 but doers of the word, because it is in the 00:01:56.80\00:01:59.10 doing that we are made like Christ Jesus 00:01:59.11\00:02:00.75 and we thank you dear Father, 00:02:00.76\00:02:02.15 in Jesus name, amen. Amen. 00:02:02.16\00:02:04.94 Thank you, you know I mentioned this before 00:02:05.85\00:02:07.67 I think it's worth of repeating, I've known 00:02:07.68\00:02:10.77 you for quite sometime and we've known 00:02:10.78\00:02:12.84 each other for more than 30 years I'd say. 00:02:12.85\00:02:14.72 Right, easily 30 years easily. 00:02:14.73\00:02:15.90 And I'm your pastor, but you were my pastor first. 00:02:15.91\00:02:18.28 Aha! Years ago. Although we're not far 00:02:18.29\00:02:19.98 apart in age, we've had influence in each others 00:02:19.99\00:02:22.84 lives over the years, yeah, you're from New York 00:02:22.85\00:02:24.83 most of all of your ministry. All of my 00:02:24.84\00:02:26.53 mission in New York. And I was born and raised 00:02:26.54\00:02:27.84 in New York City. Yeah. And so, today friends, 00:02:27.85\00:02:30.14 if you had, if we answer something that it's 00:02:30.15\00:02:31.69 maybe from a New York point of view, understand 00:02:31.70\00:02:34.00 that that's been most of our influence. Yeah, 00:02:34.01\00:02:36.93 I may slip and call you Rabbi, that's my 00:02:36.94\00:02:38.54 nickname I have for you, so. And I call you 00:02:38.55\00:02:40.75 bishop and we're not Rabbis and bishops, 00:02:40.76\00:02:42.56 that's just our affectionate name for 00:02:42.57\00:02:44.43 each other. But remember your questions 00:02:44.44\00:02:46.60 are very important to us, we have been getting 00:02:46.61\00:02:48.86 some good questions. You know, I like it when 00:02:48.87\00:02:50.36 people send us questions or some people send us 00:02:50.37\00:02:53.28 small doctoral dissertations, they've 00:02:53.29\00:02:56.59 already have their mind made up, but they want to 00:02:56.60\00:02:58.04 get our rubber stamp on, on what they have been 00:02:58.05\00:03:00.67 thinking about and what they have been believing. 00:03:00.68\00:03:02.46 And one of the reasons why I chose the topic on 00:03:03.13\00:03:05.99 money is because I'll mention this, all the 00:03:06.00\00:03:09.97 statistics in a moment here, but outside of that, 00:03:09.98\00:03:12.50 it's one of the most prevalence topics talked 00:03:12.51\00:03:14.60 about in scripture. And it has such an influence 00:03:14.61\00:03:17.48 in our world today, so much would not be done 00:03:17.49\00:03:19.47 if money was excluded, but so much is being done 00:03:19.48\00:03:22.78 because money is included. And as a Christian, 00:03:22.79\00:03:25.92 a follower of Christ, we need to understand how 00:03:25.93\00:03:27.73 important money is to the Lord, so that we could 00:03:27.74\00:03:30.08 began to see it not as an end in and of itself, 00:03:30.09\00:03:33.06 but as a stewardship simple, that's right, 00:03:33.07\00:03:36.16 something God tests us with. Yeah, yeah, 00:03:36.17\00:03:37.63 I think John, money what one does with one's money? 00:03:37.64\00:03:41.18 Right. Maybe the most accurate barometer of 00:03:41.19\00:03:44.33 where their heart is, 'cause the Bible says 00:03:44.34\00:03:45.44 where your money is your, you know 00:03:45.45\00:03:46.49 your heart is also. That's right. But if you're 00:03:46.50\00:03:49.18 looking at what a person spends his money on, 00:03:49.19\00:03:50.76 then you pretty much got a barometer on what's 00:03:51.41\00:03:52.90 going on in their head. And if they don't want 00:03:52.91\00:03:55.25 to give the Lord any of their money, well then 00:03:55.26\00:03:57.04 they've got some issues that we need to talk about. 00:03:57.05\00:03:59.07 You know, one person says everybody say, 00:03:59.08\00:04:01.14 everybody worships a God. Some people if you 00:04:01.15\00:04:04.23 want to find out who their God is look in their 00:04:04.24\00:04:05.80 checkbook and that's an amazing indication too. 00:04:05.81\00:04:08.12 Oh! Yes. So, we're gonna be talking about that 00:04:08.13\00:04:09.95 today. So if you have any questions about money 00:04:09.96\00:04:12.67 send them in, but we're not gonna begin with 00:04:12.68\00:04:15.03 money, we're gonna begin with some of your Bible 00:04:15.04\00:04:16.50 questions. And once again, thank you for those, 00:04:16.51\00:04:19.42 it's very important to us. Violetta in Minneapolis, 00:04:19.43\00:04:23.98 Minnesota. I don't give, she didn't gave a last 00:04:23.99\00:04:28.25 name, but very important question and I thank 00:04:28.26\00:04:30.84 you for this question because we want to clear 00:04:30.85\00:04:33.18 up any misconceptions that people may have 00:04:33.19\00:04:35.02 gleaned from what we've said here. And here's the 00:04:35.03\00:04:38.30 question and then we'll go ahead and try to 00:04:38.31\00:04:39.97 clarify it. You say, and I want to just couch 00:04:39.98\00:04:43.68 this in making it clearer that, when she brings 00:04:43.69\00:04:48.10 up the statement Roman Catholic Church, we don't 00:04:48.11\00:04:52.51 teach that Roman Catholic Christians are lost 00:04:52.52\00:04:55.16 people, we don't teach Roman Catholic Church has 00:04:55.17\00:04:58.16 people in it that are lost and can't be saved. 00:04:58.17\00:05:00.30 We don't teach that about any denomination, 00:05:00.31\00:05:02.03 but she brought up a question here, she says, 00:05:02.71\00:05:04.08 you say the Roman Catholic Church changed 00:05:04.09\00:05:07.09 the Ten Commandments, but both my son and I 00:05:07.10\00:05:10.65 have studied this and found the Ten 00:05:10.66\00:05:13.02 Commandments are the same. 00:05:13.03\00:05:14.42 Where did you get your information? 00:05:15.05\00:05:16.66 And of the things I want to point out, which is, 00:05:17.17\00:05:20.37 and by the way most of my family is Catholic. 00:05:20.38\00:05:24.60 I won't tell you where they live because that 00:05:25.92\00:05:28.40 kind of be too pointy and narrowing things down. 00:05:28.41\00:05:30.78 But, first of all, it's not about whether 00:05:31.61\00:05:34.65 a person is a Roman Catholic or whether 00:05:34.66\00:05:36.40 a person is a Methodist or a Baptist, when the 00:05:36.41\00:05:38.37 issue of the Ten Commandments come up, 00:05:38.38\00:05:39.70 but the issue was brought up that the Roman 00:05:39.71\00:05:41.87 Catholics changed the Ten Commandments. Now, 00:05:41.88\00:05:44.50 the Bible that's often used by modern and 00:05:44.51\00:05:47.59 this is as of 1970, and I've done my research 00:05:47.60\00:05:50.31 on this too, to be intelligent on 00:05:50.32\00:05:52.39 the answer, but the new American Bible as of 1970 00:05:52.40\00:05:58.30 became one of the most favorite translations 00:05:58.31\00:06:00.45 used by the American Roman Catholics, but prior 00:06:00.46\00:06:05.01 to that and many of the Bibles still exist today 00:06:05.02\00:06:07.02 in libraries and maybe you may have one is 00:06:07.03\00:06:09.09 the Douay-Rheims version. The Douay-Rheims 00:06:09.10\00:06:12.72 version, and which was completed between 1582 00:06:12.73\00:06:16.13 and 1609, and it was commonly used by Roman 00:06:16.14\00:06:20.21 Catholic English speaking people, in Roman Catholic 00:06:20.22\00:06:24.97 English speaking countries. And when 00:06:24.98\00:06:27.39 you look at the Douay version of the Bible you 00:06:27.40\00:06:29.21 will notice that the Ten Commandments, 00:06:29.22\00:06:30.51 if I recall very clearly are written the same 00:06:31.01\00:06:34.83 from 1 to 10, but you'll find in the convert 00:06:35.52\00:06:39.81 catechism of Catholic doctrines that two 00:06:39.82\00:06:43.04 commandments have been changed. One has 00:06:43.05\00:06:45.43 been omitted, and one has been broken in 00:06:45.44\00:06:47.73 two and one has been moved down. Precisely. 00:06:47.74\00:06:50.87 And now, we know that as a part of the practice 00:06:51.41\00:06:53.69 of the Roman Catholic Church. And by the way, 00:06:53.70\00:06:55.51 I want to give you that reference to where this 00:06:55.52\00:06:58.18 change actually was something that was 00:06:58.19\00:07:00.89 instrumentally done by the Roman Catholic Church, 00:07:00.90\00:07:02.88 that's why today Sunday is the day that's highly 00:07:02.89\00:07:05.83 honored in Roman Catholicism, you may 00:07:05.84\00:07:08.65 notice that. And you'll find, I'll read this 00:07:08.66\00:07:12.75 question and I'll also read the answer and 00:07:12.76\00:07:14.90 by the way, one of the things that Rome has 00:07:14.91\00:07:17.77 is a sign of their authority is the 00:07:17.78\00:07:20.47 fact that they contribute their authority to the 00:07:20.48\00:07:23.21 ability to change in the minds of the people, 00:07:23.22\00:07:25.77 a day of worship from what God established 00:07:25.78\00:07:28.24 the Seventh-day Sabbath, to the day commonly 00:07:28.25\00:07:30.79 understood today by many Christians even 00:07:30.80\00:07:33.61 in Protestant circles as Sunday, which many 00:07:33.62\00:07:36.89 people honor as the day of worship. But listen 00:07:36.90\00:07:39.03 to this quotation and you'll find this 00:07:39.04\00:07:41.41 by the way, in the most recent catechism 00:07:41.42\00:07:44.21 that the Roman Catholic Church has, 00:07:44.22\00:07:45.45 very thick book that has been re-edited, yes, 00:07:45.46\00:07:49.67 by the former Pope, Pope John Paul the Second, 00:07:49.68\00:07:52.23 but here's the question and it says, Peter German 00:07:53.19\00:07:57.38 mentions the claims of his, of this power in his 00:07:57.39\00:08:01.70 converts catechism, which is the Sabbath day? 00:08:01.71\00:08:05.88 Answer, and this is written and today you 00:08:06.57\00:08:09.02 still find this reference. Saturday is the 00:08:09.03\00:08:11.49 Sabbath day. Why do we observe Sunday instead 00:08:11.50\00:08:15.63 of Saturday? Here's the answer very important, 00:08:15.64\00:08:18.11 and this is the answer given by a Peter German, 00:08:18.12\00:08:20.62 Reverend Peter German, one of the leaders in 00:08:21.36\00:08:24.29 the Roman Catholic Church, who is deceased 00:08:24.30\00:08:25.87 now. He says: We observe Sunday instead of 00:08:25.88\00:08:29.21 Saturday because the Council of Laodicea 336 00:08:29.22\00:08:34.12 AD transferred the solemnity from 00:08:34.13\00:08:37.67 Saturday to Sunday. And the catechism of 00:08:37.68\00:08:41.41 the council of Trent translated by John A. 00:08:41.42\00:08:44.38 McHugh, and Charles. J. Callan it has stated. 00:08:44.39\00:08:47.77 But the Church of God has thought it well to 00:08:48.42\00:08:52.62 transfer the celebration and observance 00:08:52.63\00:08:54.89 of the Sabbath to Sunday. And that's just 00:08:55.39\00:08:58.08 one of the many, two of the many references, 00:08:58.09\00:09:00.02 yeah, that you'll find. Now, two things pops in 00:09:00.03\00:09:02.10 my mind because Cardinal Gibbons in the 19th 00:09:02.11\00:09:05.00 Century referred to the same group of text. 00:09:05.01\00:09:07.95 The council of Trent, I always, I always okay, 00:09:07.96\00:09:10.66 Trent with tradition, okay, that the, the main 00:09:10.67\00:09:13.19 thing that came out of the council of Trent was 00:09:13.20\00:09:14.72 that the traditions of the Church supersede 00:09:14.73\00:09:17.17 the Bible, that was their, it's like if we're, 00:09:17.18\00:09:18.95 1552, if we're doing this, it's over the 00:09:18.96\00:09:21.62 Bible because we're doing it, right. And the Church 00:09:21.63\00:09:24.44 has the power to interpret the scripture and to 00:09:24.45\00:09:27.52 change it. So, now Daniel 7:25 talks about 00:09:27.53\00:09:30.69 a power that will seek to change, that's right, 00:09:30.70\00:09:33.11 will seek to change times and laws. The truth 00:09:33.12\00:09:35.56 is and we're kind of passing words here a bit, 00:09:35.57\00:09:37.49 that the law of God cannot be changed by any man. 00:09:38.07\00:09:40.66 You can't change it? But there are those who seek 00:09:40.67\00:09:43.09 to change, who teach that it is changed, 00:09:43.10\00:09:45.43 but of course it is not change, so when 00:09:45.44\00:09:46.90 used the term they changed it, 00:09:46.91\00:09:48.63 you're talking about the, their attempt to change 00:09:48.64\00:09:50.99 as opposed to their actually changing it, 00:09:51.00\00:09:52.59 because no one can change as you well know. 00:09:52.60\00:09:54.41 That's right. The law of God, so when we say that, 00:09:54.42\00:09:56.47 we're just, we're talking about an attempt 00:09:56.48\00:09:58.50 of a power to do so, but actually no one can 00:09:58.51\00:10:01.24 change the law of God, even though there are 00:10:01.25\00:10:02.97 those who teach that it has been changed. 00:10:02.98\00:10:04.83 And you know, that's an amazing point I'm glad 00:10:05.19\00:10:06.66 you brought that out, because friends you know, 00:10:06.67\00:10:07.95 the reality of it is we could say this is how we 00:10:07.96\00:10:10.80 prefer it to be, but in actually what God has 00:10:10.81\00:10:14.73 blessed we can't unbless, and what God has 00:10:14.74\00:10:17.78 ordained we cannot un-ordain, and God 00:10:17.79\00:10:20.97 the Father, if He doesn't change it Jesus Christ 00:10:20.98\00:10:22.88 in His life He didn't change it. The followers 00:10:22.89\00:10:25.62 of Jesus Christ, the disciples didn't change it. 00:10:25.63\00:10:27.51 There was a sermon many years ago you may 00:10:28.33\00:10:29.94 remember that, probably popped into your 00:10:29.95\00:10:31.53 mind when I talked about that, the Father 00:10:31.54\00:10:33.43 didn't, the Son wouldn't, yeah, the Apostles 00:10:33.44\00:10:35.46 couldn't, who did? I remember that. And so, 00:10:35.47\00:10:38.06 we find and we trace this, how could 00:10:38.07\00:10:39.84 something become so commonly practiced 00:10:39.85\00:10:42.61 today? I was watching a weeks ago this, 00:10:42.62\00:10:44.73 this show that's seen out here on TCT, 00:10:44.74\00:10:46.93 I asked the pastor and a panel of pastors, 00:10:46.94\00:10:49.91 about seven of them in total, plus the moderator, 00:10:49.92\00:10:51.70 was asked this question about the Fourth 00:10:51.71\00:10:53.82 Commandment the Sabbath, one honestly said, 00:10:53.83\00:10:56.57 I don't really understand it very well, 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.39 but the moderator troubled me when he said, 00:10:58.82\00:11:01.22 well there are certain things that are not really 00:11:01.23\00:11:03.33 that important, that's in reference to the Sabbath, 00:11:03.34\00:11:06.01 but we'll understand it better when eternity rolls 00:11:06.63\00:11:09.16 and I understood the second part, I thought 00:11:09.17\00:11:10.52 that was pretty sincere. But when the Lord 00:11:10.53\00:11:13.72 says remember. Yeah, yeah. We say to young 00:11:13.73\00:11:17.36 people, remember the creator in the days of 00:11:17.37\00:11:19.45 your youth and we say to our young people 00:11:19.46\00:11:21.95 today the reason why our world is the way it is, 00:11:21.96\00:11:23.95 is because they'd forgotten the Lord as a 00:11:23.96\00:11:25.48 young people. And then we say to Christians 00:11:25.49\00:11:27.79 that have the, they may tend to want to go back 00:11:27.80\00:11:30.10 to the former life; we need to say remember 00:11:30.11\00:11:31.65 Lot's wife. Yes, yes, yes. And we know what 00:11:31.66\00:11:34.27 happened to Lot's wife? She turned into a 00:11:34.28\00:11:36.17 pillar of salt when she was escaping from 00:11:36.18\00:11:38.30 the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. But then, 00:11:38.31\00:11:40.98 Dr. Luke says, remember Lot's wife, yes, 00:11:42.08\00:11:44.67 Solomon says, remember the Creator 00:11:45.62\00:11:48.21 in the days of your youth. And we say, 00:11:48.22\00:11:49.56 don't forget those, but God says, remember 00:11:49.57\00:11:51.97 the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Yeah. 00:11:51.98\00:11:53.29 Not that if you. And somebody comes along 00:11:54.03\00:11:55.00 and say forget it. True, and if you look 00:11:55.01\00:11:56.41 at the Ten Commandments, the construct, 00:11:56.42\00:11:57.90 it's the longest of the commandments. 00:11:57.91\00:11:59.62 That's right. It starts with the word remember, 00:11:59.63\00:12:02.22 the Lord signs his name in that commandment 00:12:02.23\00:12:04.44 and it's, and the Ten Commandments are a chain, 00:12:04.45\00:12:06.64 if I'm pulling a rope, if it breaks at the 00:12:06.65\00:12:09.27 top of the chain, if it breaks at the bottom, 00:12:09.28\00:12:10.87 if I'm pulling another car it's still broken. 00:12:10.88\00:12:13.28 So they're, they're a unit and you don't, 00:12:14.01\00:12:16.17 it's not like a Chinese man that you pick some 00:12:16.18\00:12:17.87 and you reject the others, you got to take it all, 00:12:17.88\00:12:19.44 you got to eat that whole thing, yeah, 00:12:19.45\00:12:21.87 going to an old oven commercial, but it's, 00:12:21.88\00:12:25.26 it all comes together. And it's highlighted, 00:12:25.27\00:12:28.50 it's right there in the middle, it's the longest, 00:12:28.51\00:12:30.07 God signs his name there, He gives his authority, 00:12:30.08\00:12:32.31 his territory, it's a very important commandment. 00:12:32.32\00:12:34.82 You know, just to answer your question even further, 00:12:34.83\00:12:36.87 about whether or not the Catholics did change 00:12:37.54\00:12:39.76 the day, you'll find that although, although 00:12:39.77\00:12:42.40 in the Bible itself you'll find the Ten 00:12:42.41\00:12:44.60 Commandments written, you find there are extra 00:12:44.61\00:12:47.12 Biblical resources indicate that they did change 00:12:47.13\00:12:49.91 that and made it very clear. Here's another 00:12:49.92\00:12:52.29 reference, and this you can find also the, 00:12:52.30\00:12:56.19 I'll give you the references, 00:12:56.48\00:12:57.67 so you can look this up, press record right now, 00:12:57.68\00:13:00.19 here's the reference. Reverend Stephen Keenan 00:13:00.57\00:13:03.78 in the book A Doctrinal Catechism, page 174 00:13:03.79\00:13:08.97 and this was written by Edward Dunigan and 00:13:10.42\00:13:13.58 Brothers in 1851, that's the reference that 00:13:13.59\00:13:16.73 you'll look for. But here's the question. 00:13:16.74\00:13:19.07 Have you any other way of proving that the 00:13:19.75\00:13:21.69 Church has power to institute festivals and 00:13:21.70\00:13:24.62 precepts? When it says the Church referring 00:13:24.63\00:13:26.88 to the Roman Catholic Church? 00:13:26.89\00:13:27.88 Answer: Had she not such power, 00:13:28.52\00:13:30.88 she could not have done, yes, that in which all 00:13:30.89\00:13:34.03 modern religionists agree with her, 00:13:34.04\00:13:36.18 she could not, and I want to by 00:13:36.80\00:13:38.21 the way, say all modern religionists don't 00:13:38.22\00:13:40.09 agree with her, yes, we still honor the 00:13:40.10\00:13:41.80 Sabbath day and a lot of other Christians do. 00:13:41.81\00:13:43.29 You have Seventh-day Baptists, you have 00:13:44.00\00:13:45.10 Seventh-day Pentecostals, Seventh-day Apostolic 00:13:45.11\00:13:47.04 Church of God. You have a lot of people that 00:13:47.05\00:13:48.77 remember the Sabbath is a day that God honored 00:13:48.78\00:13:50.76 and they don't modify that. It said: She could 00:13:51.28\00:13:53.65 not have done that which all modern religionists 00:13:53.66\00:13:56.26 agree with her, she could not have substituted 00:13:56.27\00:13:59.38 the observance of Sunday, the first day 00:14:00.12\00:14:02.04 of the week, for the observance of Saturday, 00:14:02.05\00:14:07.48 the Seventh day. And listen to this friends, 00:14:07.49\00:14:09.88 this is the most amazing part. A change for 00:14:09.89\00:14:12.17 which there is no Scriptural authority." 00:14:12.18\00:14:15.08 The leaders of the Church say, there is no 00:14:16.06\00:14:17.90 Scriptural authority. They say, there is no 00:14:17.91\00:14:18.88 Scriptural authority for this change. Right, 00:14:18.89\00:14:20.45 and amazing. Yeah, yeah, and then Protestants 00:14:20.46\00:14:22.50 have to say, tradition, that's as far as 00:14:22.51\00:14:24.93 they can go with that, it's not Biblical, 00:14:24.94\00:14:26.78 it's not in the Bible, it didn't happen in the time 00:14:26.79\00:14:28.98 shortly after the Bible, in the first 100 years 00:14:28.99\00:14:31.57 there is no record of any Sunday keeping. 00:14:31.58\00:14:36.10 It begins infiltrate in a little bit later. 00:14:37.13\00:14:38.69 So basically a Protestant has to say in this 00:14:40.00\00:14:45.42 we're Catholic. You know, because we, 00:14:45.43\00:14:48.18 it's not Biblical and the Catholics say we did it, 00:14:48.19\00:14:51.48 right, so the Protestants have to say, well 00:14:51.49\00:14:53.27 we're not totally Protestant, 00:14:53.28\00:14:54.36 we got one little Catholic thing that we kept 00:14:54.37\00:14:56.35 on to and it's Sunday. I had a good friend of mine, 00:14:56.36\00:14:58.82 I won't mention his name because I think 00:14:58.83\00:15:00.18 he's still alive, he was a Catholic Priest. 00:15:00.19\00:15:02.92 And we got together quite a bit, when 00:15:03.63\00:15:05.10 I pastored the Church up in the Northern California 00:15:05.11\00:15:07.04 area, up in the Mountains of Weaverville, 00:15:07.05\00:15:08.50 the Mountains of Weaverville, Weaverville 00:15:09.16\00:15:10.87 is so small, the mountains around it are the 00:15:10.88\00:15:12.99 Trinity Alps, you know, beautiful place. 00:15:13.00\00:15:15.20 And I had a good friend of mine, his friend 00:15:15.21\00:15:17.45 name was John also, and whenever our, 00:15:17.46\00:15:19.78 whenever our bookmobile came through town, 00:15:19.79\00:15:22.98 he would come and he would buy all these 00:15:22.99\00:15:24.67 huge books, Great Controversy, 00:15:24.68\00:15:26.81 Bible Commentaries, but he was a Catholic 00:15:26.82\00:15:29.11 Priest and I'd say, why are you buying all 00:15:29.12\00:15:31.64 of our materials? I mean just thick, thick books, 00:15:31.65\00:15:34.07 heavy reading and I appreciated so much what 00:15:34.08\00:15:37.03 he said, he said you know what? He says, 00:15:37.04\00:15:38.92 I want to be able, if someone asks me what 00:15:38.93\00:15:42.61 you teach. I want to be able to say here's 00:15:43.14\00:15:45.30 what they teach and here's the writing and 00:15:45.31\00:15:46.80 the reference for it, rather than saying this 00:15:46.81\00:15:49.71 is what I heard. And there are so many 00:15:49.72\00:15:51.80 people today that have only heard and have 00:15:51.81\00:15:54.75 assumed what is being taught by scripture 00:15:54.76\00:15:56.63 rather than referencing it themselves. And so, 00:15:56.91\00:15:59.74 friends here's the challenge I give to you 00:15:59.75\00:16:01.05 and I've, I've shared this before and there 00:16:01.06\00:16:02.90 is so much more in this quotation, I read just 00:16:02.91\00:16:04.68 one more part of it, but the challenge I would 00:16:04.69\00:16:06.66 give to you is, if the Bible is your only rule 00:16:06.67\00:16:09.33 of faith and practice you'll have to go back 00:16:09.34\00:16:11.73 to the Seventh-day Sabbath because there 00:16:11.74\00:16:13.40 is no other authority. But if in fact, traditions 00:16:13.41\00:16:16.56 means more than the scriptures then you 00:16:16.57\00:16:19.14 have ample reason not in God's eyes, 00:16:19.15\00:16:22.18 but in your own practice that's the reason 00:16:22.19\00:16:23.98 why you will honor what you do, 00:16:23.99\00:16:25.06 if tradition is it? And so, but yes, 00:16:25.07\00:16:28.28 I would encourage you and there are a number 00:16:28.29\00:16:29.71 of other references here where you know, 00:16:29.72\00:16:32.39 Danny Shelton, the founder of 3ABN wrote 00:16:32.40\00:16:35.07 a book about this particular topic and 00:16:35.08\00:16:38.37 I can't tell you whether or not they're 00:16:38.38\00:16:39.73 gonna give it to you for free, but if you contact 00:16:39.74\00:16:41.27 3ABN and ask about the book, about the change 00:16:41.28\00:16:43.36 of the Sabbath I'm sure that they'll find out 00:16:43.37\00:16:45.21 a way to make that available to you. 00:16:45.22\00:16:46.36 But that's not an offer I'm giving to you today, 00:16:46.90\00:16:48.82 let's just contact 3ABN and find out about 00:16:48.83\00:16:50.36 the book, written by Danny Shelton about the 00:16:50.37\00:16:52.03 change of the Sabbath and many of those 00:16:52.04\00:16:53.93 references are in there. I have another 00:16:53.94\00:16:56.76 question here, you have one about this pretty 00:16:56.77\00:16:58.46 interesting today. I thought that I'm not, 00:16:58.47\00:17:00.49 if we answer that before but lets share 00:17:00.50\00:17:02.41 that with our audience. 00:17:02.42\00:17:03.39 This one on, why do Seventh-day Adventist 00:17:03.40\00:17:05.28 has steeples on their Churches? 00:17:05.29\00:17:07.21 evidently thinks that they are pagan symbols 00:17:07.22\00:17:09.60 and wants to know were there any steeples 00:17:09.61\00:17:12.31 in the heavenly sanctuary? And of course 00:17:12.32\00:17:14.28 I said, jokingly before, there are no elevators 00:17:14.29\00:17:17.26 in heavenly sanctuary either. But, but to take the, 00:17:17.27\00:17:20.39 the callers question very seriously, 00:17:20.40\00:17:22.55 she maybe thinking of Ashra Poles which are, 00:17:24.99\00:17:26.94 are talked about in the, in the Old Testament 00:17:26.95\00:17:29.00 we've an obelisks from Egypt, which are pagan symbols. 00:17:29.01\00:17:32.46 I don't really connect steeples in Modern day 00:17:33.05\00:17:35.09 Churches with that, caller, one in that great era 00:17:35.10\00:17:39.59 of Church building in the 1500s, 00:17:39.60\00:17:41.31 actually from, from 1000 through 1700s, 00:17:41.32\00:17:45.03 steeples came into vogue. And one of the things 00:17:46.99\00:17:50.43 they were trying to do in their construction 00:17:50.44\00:17:52.01 of Churches was to, to lift man's mind upward, 00:17:52.02\00:17:55.26 higher and as such they build 00:17:55.27\00:18:00.03 steeples, they build lofty windows, 00:18:00.04\00:18:01.46 they build thick walls with, with soaring windows, 00:18:01.47\00:18:03.43 in an attempt to get people's mind up. 00:18:03.92\00:18:06.26 A lot of the steeples had crosses on the top 00:18:07.53\00:18:09.15 and sort of a traditional thing, 00:18:09.16\00:18:11.11 I don't see it as a particularly negative thing, 00:18:11.12\00:18:13.34 the last Church I had, had the steeples 00:18:13.35\00:18:15.42 that was over 100 feet, it was the tallest 00:18:15.43\00:18:17.39 in New York City. And we had to take part 00:18:17.40\00:18:19.64 of it down, mostly because it began 00:18:19.65\00:18:21.07 to dismantle itself. But I don't see 00:18:21.08\00:18:22.98 it is as a negative thing, and I certainly 00:18:22.99\00:18:24.55 don't see it as something that is a harkening 00:18:24.56\00:18:27.00 back to any sort of pagan influence. 00:18:27.01\00:18:28.74 Probably just a little window dressing, 00:18:30.23\00:18:31.86 just something to take man's mind from the earth 00:18:31.87\00:18:33.47 and lift his eyes towards heaven 00:18:33.48\00:18:35.14 and I think that is a good thing. 00:18:35.15\00:18:36.38 It doesn't disturb my Christianity certainly, 00:18:38.18\00:18:39.93 right, and does not 00:18:39.94\00:18:40.91 bother me that much, I think there is a lot 00:18:40.92\00:18:42.96 of things that we really need to worry about, 00:18:42.97\00:18:44.69 as far as their own Christianity is concerned. 00:18:44.70\00:18:46.51 Steeples doesn't, doesn't really bother me 00:18:47.13\00:18:48.66 one way or the other, if you look at 00:18:48.67\00:18:50.50 the artist renderings of this temple 00:18:50.51\00:18:53.16 that Solomon build, not Solomon rather Herod, 00:18:53.17\00:18:55.60 that Herod build. There were parapets, 00:18:55.61\00:18:58.59 there were pointed parts of the temple things 00:18:59.76\00:19:02.78 that lifted man's mind and his eyes upward. 00:19:02.79\00:19:05.58 And I don't think that's necessary a bad thing. 00:19:05.59\00:19:07.61 You know, there are some things today 00:19:07.62\00:19:08.88 that exist in Christianity and I'm glad 00:19:08.89\00:19:10.46 you pointed it out, because there is 00:19:10.47\00:19:11.75 a difference between what a building looks like 00:19:11.76\00:19:14.28 and... and the worship that we honor the Lord with. 00:19:14.29\00:19:17.40 We know that there are some Churches 00:19:17.41\00:19:19.38 that have many statues and symbols 00:19:19.39\00:19:21.54 that they bow down before, yeah. 00:19:21.55\00:19:23.41 We know that there is some similarity 00:19:23.42\00:19:25.34 between the obelisks in Washington DC 00:19:25.35\00:19:28.15 and the great obelisks there in Saint Peter's square 00:19:28.16\00:19:31.38 and a lot of people say, oh! There is an association, 00:19:31.39\00:19:33.74 there is sun worship associating the two, 00:19:33.75\00:19:35.72 that's not necessarily the case, 00:19:35.73\00:19:38.00 but then that may, may possibly 00:19:38.01\00:19:39.98 be part of your association. I haven't looked into that, 00:19:39.99\00:19:42.41 so I can't say one way or the other, 00:19:42.42\00:19:45.18 so don't quote me on that, but the stand 00:19:45.19\00:19:48.54 that we have with God is one of the most important 00:19:48.55\00:19:51.03 things that we need to associate with, 00:19:51.04\00:19:52.42 because there are some people that maybe put off 00:19:52.43\00:19:54.98 by what they see and it upsets their stand 00:19:54.99\00:19:58.72 with God. For example 00:19:58.73\00:19:59.96 the Church steeple, if you went to 00:19:59.97\00:20:01.75 a town and you try to 00:20:01.76\00:20:02.73 find the Church. This is something 00:20:02.74\00:20:04.07 that has become a very significant symbol, 00:20:04.08\00:20:06.63 look for the steeple, you'll find the Church 00:20:07.11\00:20:08.56 and the Church uses the steeple towers 00:20:08.57\00:20:10.82 over the buildings in most towns, 00:20:10.83\00:20:12.73 that is smaller towns obviously not New York City, 00:20:12.74\00:20:15.48 because you can't find St. Patrick's Cathedral, 00:20:15.49\00:20:18.41 it's nestles there right in Fifth Avenue 00:20:18.42\00:20:20.51 with all these large building around it, 00:20:20.52\00:20:22.04 but before these large buildings were build, 00:20:22.05\00:20:23.68 that steeple was a mark, a Downtown 00:20:23.69\00:20:27.64 in Manhattan, Trinity Church, yes, 00:20:27.65\00:20:29.90 another one, that was a great mark way back. 00:20:29.91\00:20:32.81 The Church that remain standing 00:20:33.78\00:20:35.43 when the World Trade Center fell, 00:20:35.44\00:20:37.14 which is the oldest Church in New York City, 00:20:37.15\00:20:38.81 that has a steeple before all those buildings 00:20:38.82\00:20:41.31 the World Trade Center, City Hall was build, 00:20:41.32\00:20:43.59 that stood out. And so, if you were living 00:20:43.60\00:20:45.71 in the time, lets just say in the late 00:20:45.72\00:20:47.32 1800s to mid 1800s you'll find that many towns 00:20:47.33\00:20:52.18 when people looked for the place to worship 00:20:52.19\00:20:54.37 that steeple stood out and they knew exactly 00:20:54.38\00:20:56.54 where they were going, it was a point of interest. 00:20:56.55\00:20:58.20 And like in New York City 00:20:58.21\00:21:00.61 when the World Trade Centers fell 00:21:00.62\00:21:01.75 C.A., it was hard for people 00:21:01.76\00:21:03.83 to figure out which way was downtown? 00:21:03.84\00:21:05.30 Right. Because those large buildings 00:21:05.31\00:21:07.31 just mark, okay that's downtown 00:21:07.32\00:21:09.37 and you could see them anywhere, 00:21:09.38\00:21:10.58 when you're traveling from New Jersey, 00:21:10.59\00:21:12.66 coming from the Holland Tunnel 00:21:13.01\00:21:14.44 you look and saw these buildings 00:21:14.45\00:21:16.12 you knew the difference between uptown and downtown. 00:21:16.13\00:21:17.64 Sure, sure. So, but that's, that's 00:21:17.65\00:21:21.11 neither here nor there when it comes to worship. 00:21:21.12\00:21:23.09 You know, I want to add John that also the Lord looks 00:21:23.10\00:21:26.72 at what's going on in your heart? 00:21:26.73\00:21:29.18 That's right. Two people can do 00:21:29.19\00:21:30.16 the exact same thing I'm, I'm just looking here 00:21:30.17\00:21:31.94 in Luke you know, a Pharisee goes in, 00:21:31.95\00:21:34.79 public goes and they both pray, 00:21:34.80\00:21:36.52 one is justifying themselves and the other 00:21:36.53\00:21:38.43 is humbling himself. They're both on their knees 00:21:38.44\00:21:40.26 praying to God. That's right. 00:21:40.27\00:21:41.28 But what's going on in their hearts 00:21:41.29\00:21:42.54 is totally different. One person maybe erecting 00:21:42.55\00:21:44.76 a steeple for self glorification, 00:21:44.77\00:21:46.68 the other is erecting a steeple 00:21:46.69\00:21:48.67 because he wants to get our thoughts upward. 00:21:48.68\00:21:50.61 So you know, the Lord looks 00:21:53.25\00:21:55.35 at what's going on in your heart 00:21:55.36\00:21:56.33 and the worship of the heart, 00:21:56.34\00:21:58.12 that's very, very important. And I think we got 00:21:58.13\00:21:59.99 to keep those things always in mind. 00:22:00.00\00:22:01.42 You can't always judge why people do things. 00:22:01.43\00:22:02.84 A lot of things are just tradition, 00:22:02.85\00:22:03.97 but a lot of things are sincere attempts 00:22:03.98\00:22:05.98 to get man's mind off of himself and onto God. 00:22:05.99\00:22:09.07 That's right, lot of I did a study a number 00:22:09.08\00:22:11.39 of years ago and I preached a sermon 00:22:11.40\00:22:12.58 called stained glass and I was amazed to see 00:22:12.59\00:22:17.06 that as beautiful stained glass is. 00:22:17.07\00:22:19.81 Stained glass was build at a time when the people 00:22:20.33\00:22:23.51 where in abject darkness about the truth of God's word, 00:22:23.52\00:22:26.13 it was during the Dark Ages. It became an attraction 00:22:26.14\00:22:29.85 to get people to come inside of this, 00:22:29.86\00:22:32.44 of the large Church, the large monasteries, 00:22:32.45\00:22:34.75 the large huge edifices, I think that word edifice 00:22:34.76\00:22:38.16 doesn't apply to a Storefront Church. 00:22:38.17\00:22:39.88 Not at all. You know, a little garage, 00:22:39.89\00:22:42.93 I think it was, which was modified into a Church 00:22:42.94\00:22:45.62 and edifice in its awesome grander, 00:22:45.63\00:22:49.03 the windows were stained glass 00:22:49.04\00:22:50.91 because they did not have lights like we did, 00:22:50.92\00:22:54.99 they didn't have gas lighting yet, 00:22:55.00\00:22:56.11 they didn't have any electricity. 00:22:56.12\00:22:58.38 And so, what had happened is the Churches 00:22:58.39\00:23:00.65 were dimly lit with just candles. 00:23:00.66\00:23:02.20 And so, to get any light 00:23:02.21\00:23:03.70 at all it be very, very bright. 00:23:03.71\00:23:05.04 But in order for the people to come inside 00:23:05.05\00:23:07.67 of the sanctuaries, inside of these large edifices 00:23:07.68\00:23:10.62 they created stained glass windows. 00:23:10.63\00:23:13.25 Which became the attraction, so when people came in 00:23:13.64\00:23:16.73 they saw the S-U-N and they observe the S-U-N, 00:23:17.35\00:23:20.90 the glory of the S-U-N, 00:23:20.91\00:23:22.08 rather than the glory of the S-O-N. 00:23:22.09\00:23:24.13 Sure. And so, it was a way to diffuse 00:23:24.14\00:23:26.38 the real truth of God, the stained glass diffuse 00:23:26.39\00:23:29.25 the real light of God. And how amazing it was 00:23:29.26\00:23:31.60 that stained glass came into existence 00:23:31.61\00:23:33.19 at a time when the word of God and the truth 00:23:33.20\00:23:35.57 that was being suppressed, suppressed sure. 00:23:35.58\00:23:38.10 And so, people you look, I went to Notre Dame, 00:23:38.11\00:23:40.85 and I went to number of the, number of the large 00:23:40.86\00:23:42.76 Churches in Europe that are just Oh! 00:23:42.77\00:23:44.61 So inspiring, you walk into them and you just 00:23:44.62\00:23:46.53 take a deep breath. Yes. Because it's just, 00:23:46.54\00:23:48.58 I can't think of how long it took for somebody to, 00:23:48.59\00:23:50.84 to climb up 200 feet, 300 feet just to put 00:23:50.85\00:23:53.94 a little carving up there, 00:23:53.95\00:23:55.76 why would that be so important? 00:23:55.77\00:23:57.11 Nowadays we don't have that kind of thing. 00:23:57.66\00:23:59.29 Yeah. But it's traditional once again. 00:23:59.30\00:24:02.15 One more, one more question we have here, 00:24:03.38\00:24:04.92 this is about tradition and it says, 00:24:04.93\00:24:06.56 you were talking about Christians merging 00:24:06.57\00:24:08.65 with the world and they give the day 00:24:08.66\00:24:10.64 when I talked about, I agree a 1000% on that. 00:24:10.65\00:24:13.63 But what about Christmas and its pagan origins? 00:24:13.64\00:24:17.52 Christians who usually know better, 00:24:18.21\00:24:19.63 this person is writing in their own opinion here. 00:24:19.64\00:24:21.44 And by the way, this is Jane 00:24:21.45\00:24:22.56 from Lewiston in Idaho, are still merging 00:24:22.57\00:24:25.86 with the world by celebrating Christmas, 00:24:25.87\00:24:28.30 as you put ...a pagan holiday. Now, I understand 00:24:28.31\00:24:31.81 how you try to associate to Christmas. 00:24:31.82\00:24:33.59 And I have you talk on that, you said something 00:24:33.60\00:24:36.03 very good a moment ago. Look in any library, 00:24:36.04\00:24:38.58 encyclopedia all the traditions 00:24:38.59\00:24:40.37 of Christmas are steep in sun worship and paganism. 00:24:40.38\00:24:42.82 Jesus never asked us to celebrate birthdays 00:24:43.34\00:24:45.75 either in the first place, notice the birthday 00:24:45.76\00:24:48.39 celebration in the Bible and how they ended. 00:24:48.40\00:24:50.02 I hope you can discuss this on your program. 00:24:50.03\00:24:52.44 Christmas, pagan holiday, let's talk about that. 00:24:53.07\00:24:55.28 Well, Christmas is not a pagan holiday. 00:24:55.29\00:24:58.50 That's right. It, it cannot be a pagan holiday. 00:24:58.51\00:25:00.90 The celebration of the birth of Christ 00:25:00.91\00:25:03.18 is ipso facto Christian, because you are celebrating 00:25:03.19\00:25:07.25 the birth of Christ. Right. The day on which it is 00:25:07.26\00:25:11.00 celebrated is that His birthday? 00:25:11.01\00:25:13.49 No, I don't know if any scholar 00:25:14.14\00:25:16.85 that says December 25th is His birthday. 00:25:16.86\00:25:19.09 That's right. So, we know that. 00:25:19.10\00:25:20.07 Given that, the question is, 00:25:20.08\00:25:21.56 should we celebrate the holiday? 00:25:21.57\00:25:23.08 Should we celebrate the birth of Christ? 00:25:23.09\00:25:25.22 You know, it's funny, Luther and I think 00:25:25.23\00:25:26.81 it was Malatha diverted, they split company 00:25:26.82\00:25:29.30 over two things, one said if the Bible doesn't teach 00:25:29.31\00:25:33.18 it specifically you cannot do it. 00:25:33.19\00:25:35.33 The other said, if the Bible does not prohibit 00:25:35.34\00:25:38.14 it specifically you can do it. Right. Alright, 00:25:38.15\00:25:41.03 so does the Bible say we should celebrate 00:25:41.04\00:25:43.36 the birth of Christ? No. No, 00:25:43.37\00:25:45.78 does the Bible say we should not celebrate 00:25:45.79\00:25:48.13 the birth of Christ? No. No, 00:25:48.14\00:25:49.81 so now we're dealing with sanctified judgment, 00:25:50.37\00:25:52.81 we're dealing with the opinion, 00:25:52.82\00:25:54.20 an opinion. 00:25:55.48\00:25:56.45 Should we celebrate the birth of Christ? 00:25:56.59\00:25:58.66 Well, I think it's a good time 00:25:58.67\00:26:00.33 of year to lift up Jesus. I found that men's hearts, 00:26:00.34\00:26:04.13 when I say men, men and women, 00:26:04.14\00:26:05.12 their hearts are softer during Christmas, 00:26:05.13\00:26:06.63 they're more susceptible to the Gospel 00:26:06.64\00:26:09.24 during this season. They're a little kinder 00:26:09.25\00:26:11.42 during this season, they're in more giving 00:26:11.43\00:26:13.42 mood during the season. So again, 00:26:13.43\00:26:15.60 I think our celebration is determined 00:26:15.61\00:26:18.06 by our relationship with the Lord. 00:26:18.07\00:26:19.42 And I don't know if this is a thing 00:26:19.91\00:26:21.06 that we should judge each other on. 00:26:21.07\00:26:22.36 I think there are sincere Christians 00:26:22.37\00:26:24.46 who want to lift up Jesus during this time 00:26:24.47\00:26:27.34 and I think it's a good time to do precisely that. 00:26:27.35\00:26:30.29 It's a season of the soul, there are times when, 00:26:31.32\00:26:33.81 when our souls are just a little softer 00:26:33.82\00:26:35.64 and this time of year and of course, 00:26:35.65\00:26:37.71 we're doing this during the Christmas 00:26:37.72\00:26:38.69 season is, it is a little softer. 00:26:38.70\00:26:40.92 So, to ignore it, I think we do 00:26:40.93\00:26:42.46 so with our apparel. And then to anytime 00:26:42.47\00:26:44.64 you can speak a word for Jesus, 00:26:44.65\00:26:45.89 say the name of Jesus, right, lift up 00:26:45.90\00:26:47.78 the name of Jesus, I think Christians 00:26:47.79\00:26:49.20 ought to be the first to do so. 00:26:49.21\00:26:50.33 There are those who'd say, well now 00:26:50.34\00:26:52.40 what about the decorations you know 00:26:53.33\00:26:55.97 the balls on the Christmas tree, 00:26:55.98\00:26:58.36 the red and green, don't they symbolize planets, 00:26:58.37\00:27:01.44 don't, don't the lights on the Christmas tree 00:27:02.13\00:27:04.24 symbolize stars, planetary stars. 00:27:04.25\00:27:06.74 Doesn't the tree itself and I'm bringing 00:27:07.29\00:27:10.40 this up because I know there are many people 00:27:10.41\00:27:11.67 that are asking that question and this question 00:27:11.68\00:27:13.36 is coming before. Doesn't the tree itself 00:27:13.37\00:27:15.56 have a some kind of a pagan significance, 00:27:15.57\00:27:17.58 because in the Book of Jeremiah 00:27:17.59\00:27:18.69 they talked about how they took an Evergreen 00:27:18.70\00:27:19.92 and they affix it and they bowed and, 00:27:19.93\00:27:21.86 and worshpped before it. So, friends there are those 00:27:21.87\00:27:25.83 who say just like, let me use this analogy, 00:27:25.84\00:27:28.37 and I hope you gather it this way. 00:27:28.38\00:27:30.05 The Bible prohibits the eating of pig, 00:27:30.51\00:27:32.94 any unclean food, but we tend to single out the pig 00:27:32.95\00:27:36.44 as the worst of worst. And we say there 00:27:36.45\00:27:39.59 is the only one word to describe a pig 00:27:39.60\00:27:41.02 and that's a pig, there is no other word. 00:27:41.03\00:27:43.15 But then the Bible also just prohibits 00:27:43.16\00:27:45.84 the eating of dog and cat and any unclean animal 00:27:45.85\00:27:49.67 that God created as the sanitation department. 00:27:49.68\00:27:52.17 Now, and the Bible also said that you shouldn't 00:27:52.18\00:27:54.85 even touched their dead carcasses. Correct. 00:27:54.86\00:27:56.67 But that was a ceremonial thing, 00:27:56.68\00:27:58.54 because if the priest who was involving himself 00:27:58.55\00:28:00.96 in the temple worship services were 00:28:00.97\00:28:02.69 to touch the carcass of an unclean animal, 00:28:02.70\00:28:04.65 he had to be purified a certain amount of time 00:28:04.66\00:28:06.70 before he participated in the worship service, 00:28:06.71\00:28:08.29 he couldn't do it. That's one of the reasons 00:28:08.30\00:28:10.68 why they wanted the body of Jesus Christ 00:28:10.69\00:28:12.07 off the Cross before the Sabbath. 00:28:12.08\00:28:13.32 That's right. They would be unclean in order, 00:28:13.33\00:28:15.37 that's amazing to me. Yeah, yeah, it kind of blows 00:28:15.38\00:28:18.01 the mind that you've, you just sort of put 00:28:18.02\00:28:19.51 the guy to death, and now you're worried 00:28:19.52\00:28:20.68 about being clean and unclean 00:28:20.69\00:28:21.75 and that kind of thing. But now the question is, 00:28:21.76\00:28:23.64 on the same note, is it a sin to own a pig 00:28:23.65\00:28:25.83 as a pet? No, is it a sin to own a dog as a pet? No. 00:28:25.84\00:28:30.59 So the symbol takes on a different meaning 00:28:31.21\00:28:32.84 when we associate it for a different purpose. 00:28:32.85\00:28:34.54 Do you bow down and worship your Christmas tree 00:28:35.22\00:28:37.83 that you put your gifts under. 00:28:37.84\00:28:38.91 And the Bible even talks about that, 00:28:38.92\00:28:40.37 they put gifts under this, but when you follow 00:28:40.38\00:28:42.02 and trace that they did that in an honoring set 00:28:42.03\00:28:45.02 of a pagan God they worshiped, of one they honored 00:28:45.03\00:28:47.65 other than Christ. December 25th 00:28:47.66\00:28:50.24 while it's a day that the Christians honor 00:28:50.77\00:28:52.87 now as the birthday of Christ, they use that day 00:28:52.88\00:28:55.07 to celebrate the birthday of Christ. 00:28:55.08\00:28:56.52 Not being prohibited by, by the Bible. 00:28:57.06\00:28:59.12 It's also the day anciently observed by a pagan God 00:28:59.13\00:29:03.08 called Mithras, December 25th. 00:29:03.09\00:29:05.91 And one of the reasons why they chose that day, 00:29:06.29\00:29:07.77 they say that was the day of the winter solstice. 00:29:07.78\00:29:09.48 Correct. So, it has some significant pagan symbols. 00:29:09.49\00:29:12.72 Two things that Christians have 00:29:12.73\00:29:14.17 become amazingly prohibitive of in some circles 00:29:14.18\00:29:17.70 and the devil has done a very good job on this. 00:29:18.21\00:29:20.25 And right now there is a movement in America 00:29:20.26\00:29:22.56 at least to don't, to not say Merry Christmas. 00:29:22.57\00:29:25.89 Because the pagans and the secularists 00:29:26.87\00:29:29.39 want to get Christ out of Christmas altogether. 00:29:29.40\00:29:31.29 Yeah. So, they go around saying Happy Holidays. 00:29:31.30\00:29:33.60 Now, what amazes me about that is Christians 00:29:33.61\00:29:36.00 are joining significantly in that move when we say, 00:29:36.01\00:29:38.84 happy holiday and we try to omit Christ 00:29:38.85\00:29:41.70 from the fact that He was born altogether. 00:29:41.71\00:29:43.38 But I want to share something with you 00:29:43.39\00:29:44.84 because I did this research and this is a very important 00:29:44.85\00:29:46.52 question to spend a little bit of time on, 00:29:46.53\00:29:48.33 to understand how we got down to December 25th, 00:29:49.06\00:29:51.76 and I'll read this for you, and this is ancient, 00:29:51.77\00:29:53.34 this is history. It says, the ancient Church 00:29:53.35\00:29:56.41 at Alexandria celebrated John the Baptist's 00:29:56.42\00:29:59.55 birthday on April 23rd, by the way you notice 00:29:59.56\00:30:02.34 that John was born how many months before Jesus? 00:30:02.35\00:30:04.54 Six months. If the date was given for His birth 00:30:04.55\00:30:07.54 and we could exactly pinpoint when Jesus was born, 00:30:07.55\00:30:09.95 at least round about. 00:30:09.96\00:30:10.93 The Churches in Alexandria celebrated 00:30:10.94\00:30:13.58 John's birthday, April 23rd. 00:30:13.59\00:30:15.49 This date was based on tradition, not on fact. 00:30:16.36\00:30:19.42 If that day was correct then Jesus 00:30:20.34\00:30:22.38 would have been born about October 19th. 00:30:22.39\00:30:25.17 The same Church later changed 00:30:26.57\00:30:28.05 the date of John's birth to June 24th. 00:30:28.06\00:30:31.14 That date would then place the birth of Jesus 00:30:32.04\00:30:34.29 also six month later December 25th. 00:30:34.60\00:30:36.91 Yeah. And so, because there is no 00:30:36.92\00:30:38.94 date given in scripture for the birth of John 00:30:38.95\00:30:40.79 the Baptist and the birth of Christ 00:30:40.80\00:30:42.35 then the traditions of Eastern Orthodox 00:30:43.19\00:30:46.64 and Western Orthodoxy varied on that. 00:30:46.89\00:30:49.53 The thing that they both agreed on was the fact 00:30:49.87\00:30:51.91 that Jesus was born. And now, 00:30:51.92\00:30:54.34 one of our favorite authors Ellen White 00:30:54.83\00:30:56.30 gives a statement in reference to this. 00:30:56.31\00:30:57.67 And, you know, when I have a, 00:30:57.68\00:30:58.71 whenever I have difficulties 00:30:58.99\00:30:59.96 in balancing things out, 00:30:59.97\00:31:01.38 I go to someone I feel that's inspired 00:31:01.69\00:31:03.06 of the Lord. Sure. Someone who is given 00:31:03.07\00:31:04.44 council as to what we should do with this state. 00:31:04.45\00:31:06.53 Listen to this friends, it's from a book 00:31:06.75\00:31:08.24 I've read a number of times called Adventist Homes, 00:31:08.25\00:31:10.47 page 478 to 482. And those of you 00:31:10.48\00:31:13.45 who are not Seventh-day Adventists 00:31:13.46\00:31:15.15 this would mean absolutely nothing to you, 00:31:15.16\00:31:16.50 but this is a very important 00:31:16.51\00:31:17.52 point of reference, because it gives us some 00:31:17.53\00:31:20.45 balancing understanding 00:31:20.70\00:31:21.79 of how we deal with Christmas. Yes. 00:31:21.80\00:31:23.20 Listen to this: As the 25th of December 00:31:23.65\00:31:26.52 is observed to commemorate the birth of Christ, 00:31:26.53\00:31:29.56 as the children have been instructed 00:31:30.10\00:31:32.61 that this was indeed a day of gladness 00:31:32.62\00:31:34.93 and rejoicing like you said, 00:31:34.94\00:31:36.05 a day of softness in the human heart, 00:31:36.06\00:31:37.63 you will find it a difficult matter to pass over 00:31:38.74\00:31:41.03 this period without giving it some attention. 00:31:41.04\00:31:43.10 It can be made to serve a very good purpose. 00:31:44.70\00:31:47.07 It is a pleasant to receive a gift, 00:31:47.59\00:31:49.87 however small, from those we love. 00:31:50.98\00:31:53.06 It is an assurance that we are not forgotten, 00:31:53.86\00:31:56.20 and seems to bind us to them a little closer. 00:31:56.92\00:31:59.35 It is right to bestow upon one another tokens 00:31:59.98\00:32:02.68 of love and remembrance if we do not forget God, 00:32:02.69\00:32:06.33 our best friend. 00:32:06.34\00:32:07.60 Christ should be the supreme object. 00:32:07.96\00:32:10.57 But what about the Christmas tree? 00:32:11.25\00:32:12.37 That very same book, page 42. 00:32:12.56\00:32:14.22 God would be well pleased if on Christmas, 00:32:15.08\00:32:17.75 each church would have a Christmas tree 00:32:17.76\00:32:19.44 on which shall be hung offerings, 00:32:19.45\00:32:21.72 great and small, for these houses of worship. 00:32:22.50\00:32:25.48 There is no particular sin in selecting a fragrant 00:32:26.02\00:32:29.29 evergreen and placing it in our Churches, 00:32:29.30\00:32:32.46 but the sin lies in the motive which prompts 00:32:32.82\00:32:36.42 to action and the use which is made by 00:32:36.43\00:32:38.90 the gifts placed upon the tree. 00:32:38.91\00:32:40.70 So, the sin is not in the tree 00:32:41.74\00:32:43.04 itself because if the, if the, 00:32:43.05\00:32:44.15 if the evergreen tree was a sin we go back 00:32:44.16\00:32:46.50 to the Garden of Eden where Adam blamed God 00:32:46.51\00:32:48.77 for the woman. The woman blamed God 00:32:48.78\00:32:51.63 for the serpent and the serpent could 00:32:51.64\00:32:53.47 rightfully blame God for putting that tree 00:32:53.48\00:32:55.21 of the knowledge of good 00:32:55.22\00:32:56.19 and evil there. Sure, sure, sure. 00:32:56.20\00:32:57.17 So, nothing God creates in and of itself is a sin, 00:32:57.18\00:32:59.43 it is the motive that lies behind it. 00:32:59.74\00:33:01.38 Yeah. Now, is Christmas a time, 00:33:01.39\00:33:02.75 that brings cheer to the world, 00:33:02.76\00:33:03.96 yes it is, is it the birth of Christ? 00:33:03.97\00:33:05.98 No, it is not. We don't observe 00:33:05.99\00:33:08.12 it as the birth of Christ, nor do we bow down 00:33:08.13\00:33:10.39 and worship it as some may say this is a holy day 00:33:10.40\00:33:13.69 and some orders, if you miss Christmas, 00:33:14.31\00:33:16.27 that's a mortal sin. Yeah. If you miss Easter, 00:33:16.78\00:33:18.73 that's a mortal sin, and you know exactly 00:33:18.74\00:33:20.56 what Church I'm referring to, 00:33:20.57\00:33:22.00 but that's not a mortal sin, 00:33:22.40\00:33:23.87 observing it or not observing 00:33:23.88\00:33:25.21 it is not something that has to do with salvation. 00:33:25.22\00:33:27.66 Yeah, if you look at, at you know, 00:33:27.67\00:33:29.28 we often say, well something is pagan, 00:33:29.29\00:33:31.34 right, and we just sort of stop there. 00:33:31.61\00:33:32.65 But the pagans saw the evergreen 00:33:32.66\00:33:36.82 as a really a sign of life during a dead 00:33:36.83\00:33:38.86 long bleak winter, right, although the trees 00:33:38.87\00:33:41.39 had dropped their leaves, 00:33:41.40\00:33:42.40 they were in this dormant state, 00:33:42.41\00:33:43.50 they were ugly to look at, 00:33:43.51\00:33:44.48 here's this one little bit of green. 00:33:44.49\00:33:46.12 That's right. So they, 00:33:46.13\00:33:47.10 they honor that bit of green because it, 00:33:47.11\00:33:48.30 it, it said that life continues you know, 00:33:48.77\00:33:50.29 even during the winter. And so, our traditions 00:33:50.30\00:33:53.41 hearken more back to that than, 00:33:53.57\00:33:55.00 I mean Mithraism came from the East, 00:33:55.01\00:33:57.15 the Roman soldiers brought it back to Rome. 00:33:57.16\00:33:58.53 Then it sort of spread through Europe, 00:33:58.54\00:34:00.24 but the traditions that undergird Christmas 00:34:00.25\00:34:03.33 celebration, now, come a little bit more 00:34:03.34\00:34:05.84 from Western Europe, from Germany, 00:34:05.85\00:34:06.97 from those kind of things and. 00:34:06.98\00:34:08.15 And the pagans were trying to remind themselves 00:34:08.16\00:34:10.63 that spring is gonna come again and, 00:34:10.64\00:34:12.10 and you know it's, all of the fall festivals 00:34:12.11\00:34:13.75 deal with lights, the days have gotten shorter, 00:34:13.76\00:34:15.68 more darkness, less light. So, 00:34:16.15\00:34:17.93 all of their festivals you know, 00:34:18.53\00:34:20.37 even the late fall festivals deal with lights 00:34:21.25\00:34:23.29 because they wanted light, 00:34:23.30\00:34:24.27 light was very important in the long dark winter. 00:34:24.28\00:34:26.17 So, they did those things, but many times 00:34:26.79\00:34:28.60 they were just trying to remind themselves 00:34:28.61\00:34:30.60 that it's going to get better, 00:34:30.61\00:34:31.97 we've got a little green to remind us, 00:34:32.35\00:34:33.58 we've got some lights to remind us, 00:34:33.59\00:34:34.71 and the days are gonna get longer 00:34:34.72\00:34:35.79 and life is gonna get better, 00:34:35.80\00:34:36.82 things are gonna get warmer. 00:34:36.83\00:34:37.87 And we've taken a lot of our traditions from that, 00:34:38.07\00:34:39.81 I think, I think your point is very, very important, 00:34:39.91\00:34:41.72 that it's what's going on in the heart you know, 00:34:42.02\00:34:43.73 we're not deifying that tree, 00:34:43.74\00:34:44.77 we're not worshiping that tree, 00:34:44.78\00:34:45.75 we're worshiping Jesus, 00:34:46.13\00:34:47.13 we're still in love with Jesus 00:34:47.14\00:34:48.57 for us it's all about Jesus. 00:34:48.84\00:34:50.25 And as long as you keep your balance you know, 00:34:50.47\00:34:52.58 I think you're on, you're on safe territory. 00:34:52.59\00:34:53.99 And if you give me an open door as a person 00:34:54.00\00:34:55.64 who does not honor Christ by saying Merry Christmas, 00:34:55.65\00:34:58.66 and all of a sudden you realize 00:34:59.22\00:35:00.20 that Jesus was born, do you realize 00:35:00.21\00:35:01.80 even in countries where communism exists 00:35:01.81\00:35:03.89 where Jesus has, has almost been 00:35:03.90\00:35:05.38 removed from societies, they understand 00:35:05.39\00:35:07.41 that December 25th, 2005, 00:35:07.42\00:35:10.19 2005 means in the year of our Lord a fact, 00:35:10.71\00:35:13.94 yes, that Jesus Christ was born. 00:35:14.28\00:35:15.63 Yes. Honor the man, don't put too much 00:35:15.64\00:35:18.06 significance in the day, 00:35:18.07\00:35:19.18 don't make it a big old time, 00:35:19.45\00:35:20.55 where you see, well this has got to be the day 00:35:20.56\00:35:22.15 that Christ was born, that's not significant, 00:35:22.16\00:35:24.26 that's not scriptural, that's not historical, 00:35:24.62\00:35:26.15 there is no foundation for that. 00:35:27.54\00:35:28.51 And do not let the commercialism 00:35:28.52\00:35:29.60 and the paganism of the world become 00:35:29.61\00:35:31.06 the focal point of why you do what you do? 00:35:31.07\00:35:33.84 And that's why I chose the, 00:35:34.37\00:35:35.48 the, the subject of money. 00:35:36.39\00:35:38.52 And by the way, friend if you have any 00:35:38.53\00:35:39.51 questions on work whatever we talked about, 00:35:39.52\00:35:41.23 or what we're going to talk about, 00:35:41.83\00:35:42.95 send those questions to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:35:42.96\00:35:45.67 that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:35:45.68\00:35:49.36 Now, Pastor C.A , I'm excited about 00:35:49.87\00:35:51.93 the topic of money. And the reason 00:35:51.94\00:35:54.94 why this is so important friends is because 00:35:54.95\00:35:56.57 what you do with your money is so very important, 00:35:56.58\00:36:00.81 in reference to the advancing 00:36:01.12\00:36:02.69 of the kingdom of God and the Gospel 00:36:02.70\00:36:05.36 of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:36:05.37\00:36:06.55 Now, one of the things I thank Lord for is that, 00:36:07.07\00:36:08.94 we don't have money like 00:36:08.95\00:36:10.24 they did thousands of years ago. 00:36:10.25\00:36:12.11 Praise the Lord. We have something 00:36:12.12\00:36:14.43 called legal tender, a paper money, 00:36:14.44\00:36:17.43 which in fact in different societies 00:36:18.44\00:36:20.08 have different designs on it, holograms, 00:36:20.88\00:36:24.06 watermarks, symbols of that specific 00:36:24.82\00:36:28.04 government associating, but here in America 00:36:28.05\00:36:30.97 we have something pretty unique, 00:36:30.98\00:36:32.45 which there is even a battle over this, 00:36:32.90\00:36:34.32 it's amazing to me how Pastor C.A, 00:36:34.33\00:36:36.33 how people are fighting to just get 00:36:36.97\00:36:39.32 Jesus out of society. Yes. 00:36:39.33\00:36:41.11 There are those who said, 00:36:41.24\00:36:42.21 well in God we trust was added later on, 00:36:42.22\00:36:44.90 we need to get In God we trust off the money. 00:36:44.91\00:36:46.78 Off the money. There are those who say 00:36:46.79\00:36:48.01 one nation under God was added after the Pledge 00:36:48.02\00:36:51.17 of Allegiance was established. 00:36:51.18\00:36:52.31 So we need to take that out. 00:36:52.60\00:36:53.64 I don't support that friends. 00:36:53.65\00:36:55.05 What American needs more than anything 00:36:55.56\00:36:57.25 else right now is a sense of God, 00:36:57.26\00:36:59.11 it's a sense of Christ, it's a sense of Jesus, 00:36:59.12\00:37:01.16 a society without Jesus is not a society with order, 00:37:01.59\00:37:04.51 is not a society that's gonna be blessed. 00:37:04.89\00:37:06.43 So, if every time you spend a dollar, 00:37:07.81\00:37:09.14 it says In God we trust, yeah, 00:37:09.15\00:37:10.57 you got to realize that money is a gift from God 00:37:11.06\00:37:13.61 and thereby using it the way that God 00:37:14.15\00:37:15.97 has given to us is something that we 00:37:15.98\00:37:18.10 will be accountable for. I want to spend 00:37:18.11\00:37:20.55 a few moments talking about the types of money 00:37:20.56\00:37:22.76 the Bible talks about. 00:37:22.77\00:37:23.78 And this is very interesting because 00:37:24.28\00:37:25.74 there are various societies, 00:37:26.71\00:37:28.51 the Hebrews, the Jews, the Romans, 00:37:28.52\00:37:30.22 or the Greeks, throughout the years 00:37:32.30\00:37:33.27 they have various types of money. 00:37:33.28\00:37:34.25 And the Bible uses words that we have used 00:37:34.26\00:37:37.52 before such as talents, and shekel and beka, 00:37:37.53\00:37:40.55 and all these different things and, 00:37:40.99\00:37:42.26 and Gera and we didn't understand exactly 00:37:42.27\00:37:44.74 what that translated into in our modern society. 00:37:44.75\00:37:48.35 And lets just share a few of those, 00:37:48.88\00:37:49.98 let's start with the Jewish weight and because 00:37:50.36\00:37:53.36 the Bible in Revelation talks about a hail about 00:37:53.37\00:37:56.26 the weight of a talent. Yes. 00:37:56.27\00:37:57.99 The Bible also talks about a man who hid his talent, 00:37:58.45\00:38:00.68 his one talent in the ground. 00:38:00.69\00:38:02.17 And so, lets begin and I'll have, 00:38:02.90\00:38:04.29 we'll talk back and forth here 00:38:04.30\00:38:05.59 on the chart here a talent, 00:38:06.65\00:38:08.31 how much gold is a talent in rough respects? 00:38:08.32\00:38:11.29 Okay. Five. A talent of gold is about five million. 00:38:12.08\00:38:18.49 Million, yeah I'm looking at five million, 00:38:18.50\00:38:19.47 I've to, it's five million dollars. 00:38:19.48\00:38:22.61 The equivalent of 3000 shekels, 00:38:24.76\00:38:26.77 or 6000 bekas, and the translation is often 00:38:27.19\00:38:30.24 referred to as a talent. 00:38:30.25\00:38:31.51 So, the one who get three talents, 00:38:32.11\00:38:33.58 five talents, one talent that was a lot of money. 00:38:33.78\00:38:37.84 Good piece of change, it is. 00:38:37.86\00:38:39.02 Five million, seven hundred and sixty thousand 00:38:39.32\00:38:42.56 dollars is equivalent to a talent of Gold. 00:38:43.03\00:38:45.96 And the value of that is 15 times the value 00:38:46.20\00:38:48.82 of silver. So, a talent of gold is about 15 times 00:38:48.83\00:38:52.88 the value of silver. So, but it, 00:38:52.89\00:38:56.47 but it was also a way that they measured, 00:38:56.58\00:38:58.69 it was a weight of measure. 00:38:58.84\00:39:00.04 Not just something. So when you think about 00:39:00.55\00:39:02.79 a Jewish, it was about 75 pounds for the 00:39:02.80\00:39:05.82 common talent, 60 minors. 00:39:05.83\00:39:09.04 And so, you find that the talent which was also 00:39:09.40\00:39:12.17 associated with money was also associated 00:39:12.18\00:39:15.00 with weights and measures. 00:39:15.01\00:39:16.20 With weights and measures, sure. 00:39:16.21\00:39:17.18 Another one a shekel, now by the way a 00:39:17.45\00:39:19.83 talent of gold we said, five million, 00:39:19.84\00:39:21.95 seven hundred and sixty thousand dollars, 00:39:22.26\00:39:23.83 the common association of a Biblical talent, 00:39:23.84\00:39:26.38 but in silver, a single talent was about three 00:39:26.75\00:39:30.03 hundred and eighty four thousand dollars. 00:39:30.35\00:39:33.30 And equivalent to, it talks about that, 00:39:34.21\00:39:38.09 equivalent to 3000 shekels, but we have to 00:39:38.70\00:39:41.25 narrow this down and I like the factor that 00:39:41.41\00:39:43.36 they included shekels there because, 00:39:43.37\00:39:45.09 nowadays somebody says, do you have a dollar, 00:39:45.37\00:39:47.13 do you have a nickel, and do you have a dime? 00:39:47.42\00:39:49.14 Oh! Yes. Then I'll say do you have a shekel. 00:39:50.04\00:39:51.77 But in England, my wife was born in England 00:39:52.39\00:39:55.27 I don't know, if they used it today still I maybe 00:39:55.66\00:39:57.26 totally ignorant on this point, 00:39:57.51\00:39:58.89 but pounds I know pounds are still there, 00:39:59.20\00:40:00.82 pounds, shilling and pence, yeah. 00:40:00.83\00:40:02.52 And I think the word farthing, farthing. 00:40:02.69\00:40:04.76 I don't, farthing anymore, I don't think, 00:40:05.26\00:40:07.28 I just pretty much pound, shillings and pence. 00:40:07.29\00:40:08.86 Pound, shillings and pence, and you know 00:40:08.87\00:40:11.88 we think that we're powerful in the 00:40:11.89\00:40:12.93 United States, but the pounds are just more 00:40:12.94\00:40:14.18 powerful than the US dollar don't, 00:40:14.19\00:40:15.54 don't brag it, don't send us letters on that. 00:40:15.55\00:40:17.27 Always been stronger than US dollar. 00:40:17.41\00:40:18.99 Always been stronger, royalty has a way of 00:40:19.00\00:40:22.20 overshadowing just the next president to come. 00:40:22.21\00:40:24.52 But you find a shekel also, let's how much 00:40:25.40\00:40:28.29 is a shekel of gold? One thousand, 00:40:28.30\00:40:30.30 nine hundred and twenty dollars. 00:40:30.31\00:40:31.53 It is equivalent to, this is, blow me away, 00:40:32.06\00:40:34.26 it's equivalent to 4 days wages. 00:40:34.62\00:40:39.06 That was a good salary, what do you think? 00:40:39.16\00:40:40.65 Not bad. In Biblical times, 00:40:40.66\00:40:43.61 a shekel of gold $1,920 was equivalent to 4 days 00:40:44.10\00:40:49.55 wages. It was also two bekas and 20 Geras and 00:40:49.56\00:40:53.69 we'll talk about that in just a moment. 00:40:53.70\00:40:55.23 And the common phrase in the Bible that you 00:40:55.44\00:40:56.92 used the common word that was identifying 00:40:56.93\00:40:59.11 this was the word shekel. Shekel, sure. 00:40:59.12\00:41:01.33 So, you find that Judas, I mean he, 00:41:01.52\00:41:07.21 he sold out the Lord for 30 pieces of silver. 00:41:07.55\00:41:10.94 The guy wasn't even conscious enough to ask 00:41:11.74\00:41:14.62 for gold or talents, but no matter what he asked 00:41:14.63\00:41:17.85 for, still wouldn't have sufficed, because Jesus 00:41:17.86\00:41:20.26 Christ is more valuable than anything. 00:41:20.27\00:41:21.98 Amen. And he deceived Christ for just next to 00:41:22.05\00:41:23.97 nothing. The human carnal heart sold Jesus 00:41:23.98\00:41:26.47 out thinking that it was just a game, 00:41:26.48\00:41:28.12 but then there is one, there is another one that 00:41:28.75\00:41:30.33 we don't hear very much about is called the 00:41:30.34\00:41:31.93 beka, B-E-K-A and tell us the equivalent of that 00:41:31.94\00:41:35.61 by the way. You've got $960 in gold 00:41:35.62\00:41:38.31 and $64 silver. And by the way, 00:41:38.44\00:41:41.57 a shekel of silver was equivalent to a $128, 00:41:41.58\00:41:44.94 most people would rather get a shekel of 00:41:45.40\00:41:46.94 gold 900, $920, then a shekel of silver a $128, 00:41:46.95\00:41:52.34 but a beka which is about a half a shekel or 00:41:52.67\00:41:56.07 ten geras and the translations once again in 00:41:56.08\00:41:58.97 scripture is a beka, you don't find that talked 00:41:58.98\00:42:01.35 about quite often, but you find talents, shekels. 00:42:01.36\00:42:05.14 And but then the last one, and this is by the way 00:42:05.53\00:42:08.17 Jewish weights, you had other cultures, 00:42:08.29\00:42:10.52 but we'll talk about that in just a moment here, 00:42:10.53\00:42:12.13 but the last one is what a gera and that is 00:42:12.49\00:42:14.51 about how much in gold. Ninety six dollars in gold, 00:42:14.52\00:42:17.33 and a mere $6 and 40 cents in silver. 00:42:18.33\00:42:22.40 So, if you were getting a day's wage and we 00:42:22.62\00:42:27.54 have to go down to the penny, 00:42:27.55\00:42:28.84 we're gonna talk about that in a moment because 00:42:28.85\00:42:30.22 you know, lot of times you see the parable 00:42:30.23\00:42:32.18 of the, of the workers in vineyard, workers in 00:42:32.19\00:42:34.25 the field. They all got a penny, they all no 00:42:34.26\00:42:38.38 matter how long they work they got the same 00:42:38.39\00:42:40.35 wage, a penny. Today, there are be those in our 00:42:40.36\00:42:44.03 society say, well don't give me any geras and 00:42:44.04\00:42:47.03 I'm not crazy about shekels, and I would hang, 00:42:47.04\00:42:49.62 you know, I won't mind handling a shekel, 00:42:49.63\00:42:51.41 but what I really want is a talent, a talent, 00:42:51.64\00:42:54.01 I want one talent, and there is a lot of 00:42:54.10\00:42:55.95 money one talent. But now there is a Persian 00:42:55.96\00:42:59.80 coin that is refer to in scripture, 00:43:00.02\00:43:04.01 is daric, DARIC, I hope I'm pronouncing that 00:43:04.47\00:43:08.37 correctly all you English scholars and you Biblical 00:43:08.38\00:43:11.19 theologians, you may want to correct me, 00:43:11.20\00:43:12.58 if you feel to need to do so, do so humbly 00:43:12.59\00:43:15.46 though, but a daric is about how much in gold? 00:43:15.47\00:43:19.54 In gold we've got $1,28 in gold and $64 in silver. 00:43:20.59\00:43:26.66 And they say in the Persian culture at the time, 00:43:27.11\00:43:29.57 the gold daric was 20 times more valuable than 00:43:30.13\00:43:34.34 the silver daric. And so, if you got paid again, 00:43:34.35\00:43:37.98 that was equivalent to two days wages. 00:43:38.49\00:43:41.09 And so, in the Persian culture, two days wages, 00:43:42.75\00:43:46.33 that's a lot of money $1,280. Yeah. 00:43:46.47\00:43:50.80 Now, unless they live in inflationary times, 00:43:51.41\00:43:53.16 where you can buy very much, 00:43:53.17\00:43:54.57 that was a very good living. 00:43:55.23\00:43:56.32 Yes, indeed. And the common translation is 00:43:56.40\00:44:00.56 drachma, now you know, you're gonna send me 00:44:02.53\00:44:04.58 and correct me on that D-R-A-C-H-M-A, 00:44:04.59\00:44:07.57 drachma, drachma, drachma is the way that 00:44:07.58\00:44:09.81 that Persian coin is often translated, 00:44:09.82\00:44:11.84 but then we have to get to the culture that 00:44:12.51\00:44:14.08 influenced the world greatly, the Greek culture. 00:44:14.23\00:44:17.21 You find the Jewish, the Persian, 00:44:17.58\00:44:19.05 the Greeks and the Romans, 00:44:19.06\00:44:20.17 we'll go to the Romans last, 00:44:20.18\00:44:21.66 but I'll give you the, I'll, I'll let you have fun 00:44:22.30\00:44:25.29 telling and what that first Roman coin or that 00:44:25.60\00:44:29.91 Greek coin is called. The first one is the tetra 00:44:29.92\00:44:32.37 drachma, okay, at $128, okay, 00:44:32.38\00:44:36.27 the equivalent cost is, is 4 drachma, 00:44:38.60\00:44:40.35 and it's a piece money then you've got the 00:44:40.85\00:44:42.73 de drachma or di drachma, de drachma 00:44:43.16\00:44:45.16 I suspect, $64, the drachma at $32 and the 00:44:45.17\00:44:52.31 lepton at 25 cents, 25 cents. You know 00:44:52.32\00:44:57.01 what's amazing? That was a quarter of a 00:44:57.02\00:44:59.66 Roman Quadrantes. And you find the words 00:44:59.67\00:45:03.97 using in the Bible and these translations was 00:45:03.98\00:45:06.43 simply for the, you said that so wonderful and 00:45:06.44\00:45:08.66 so eloquent, it was called a piece of money, 00:45:08.67\00:45:11.51 it was called a tribute. So when there was a 00:45:11.76\00:45:14.41 tribute given? This tribute was not a salute 00:45:14.42\00:45:17.24 somewhat, or a banquet being held. 00:45:17.25\00:45:19.13 But this one in fact in a monetary form, 00:45:19.60\00:45:22.37 a Di drachma, tetradrachma, 00:45:22.80\00:45:25.51 drachma or lepton as you so wonderfully said. 00:45:26.25\00:45:29.09 Yeah. Now, let's go down to the Roman coins, 00:45:29.10\00:45:31.12 and by the way, we have in America we have 00:45:31.36\00:45:34.62 the dollar, we have the $5 dollars, 00:45:34.63\00:45:36.40 we have the $10. And you know what, 00:45:36.41\00:45:38.33 there is nothing in America that's really old 00:45:38.34\00:45:40.25 because we got established around the 00:45:41.50\00:45:42.89 1700s? Yeah. So, at best our society is 00:45:42.90\00:45:47.00 about 300 years, a little more than 300 years old, 00:45:47.01\00:45:50.42 the society in America. So, there is really nothing 00:45:50.43\00:45:52.26 old here, we are society that evolved and many 00:45:52.42\00:45:55.61 of our practices and many of our systems of 00:45:55.62\00:45:57.28 money and coins and measurements has its 00:45:57.29\00:46:00.75 origin and some culture and the Greek culture 00:46:00.76\00:46:04.38 and Roman culture being one of the most 00:46:04.39\00:46:05.70 influential and the Jewish culture, yeah. 00:46:05.71\00:46:07.86 We don't have very many things today that's 00:46:07.87\00:46:09.41 Persia. This is a nice simple way to, 00:46:09.42\00:46:11.62 to do your money, you got a tetradrachma, 00:46:11.63\00:46:14.85 then you split that in half di drachma, 00:46:14.86\00:46:16.46 you split that in half again you got a di drachma, 00:46:16.47\00:46:18.66 then you've got this 25 cent piece basically 00:46:18.67\00:46:22.09 the lepton. And the chart here equates that 00:46:22.10\00:46:25.26 to that mite, so we get a kind of idea what 00:46:25.27\00:46:26.91 the widow, widow's mite was to put in 50 cents, 00:46:26.92\00:46:29.88 right, which is all she had and the Lord of course 00:46:30.06\00:46:32.56 was impressed with that because. C. A. again 00:46:32.57\00:46:33.96 I want, I don't want to miss that, a heart, 00:46:33.97\00:46:35.61 the lepton was also called the mite. 00:46:35.78\00:46:37.28 The might, yeah, yeah. So, when the widow 00:46:37.29\00:46:39.17 put in two mites, yeah, she put in 50 cents, 00:46:39.18\00:46:41.69 50 cents in our money? Now, that wasn't 00:46:41.70\00:46:43.39 that very much. No, but the Lord was impressed 00:46:43.40\00:46:45.47 with that because it came from, 00:46:45.48\00:46:46.95 from the heart, yeah. Well, and now let's go 00:46:47.65\00:46:50.11 to Roman, the Roman coins, I'm not gonna break 00:46:50.12\00:46:52.43 your flow you did really good on the last one, 00:46:52.44\00:46:54.22 so I'm gonna just gonna have you keep going. 00:46:54.23\00:46:55.53 Alright, we're dealing with the, the arias 00:46:56.89\00:46:58.79 at $800, the denarius which is one we hear 00:46:59.41\00:47:02.56 that most about at $32, the assarius at $2, 00:47:02.57\00:47:07.42 and the quadrantes at 50 cents. 00:47:07.95\00:47:10.24 So that denarius is the largest at $800 and the 00:47:12.44\00:47:15.82 denarius at 50, 50 cents. And so, therefore 00:47:15.83\00:47:19.70 when the Bible talks about penny that's the 00:47:19.71\00:47:22.03 assarius, that penny, that copper coin. 00:47:22.04\00:47:25.18 That was in fact a $2 piece. And so when, 00:47:25.91\00:47:30.63 when the, the laborers in the vineyard were 00:47:30.89\00:47:33.79 being paid, they were being paid a penny at 00:47:33.80\00:47:36.81 the end of the day or $2 at the end of the day, 00:47:36.82\00:47:38.94 that was not very much and there are those 00:47:38.95\00:47:41.14 that worked longer and they were upset 00:47:41.15\00:47:42.84 about that, but you find that when the Lord 00:47:42.85\00:47:46.82 desires, when the Lord desires to give us 00:47:46.83\00:47:48.92 what He does, He is not bound by our desire 00:47:48.93\00:47:52.55 as much as the fact that everyone gets the 00:47:52.56\00:47:54.82 same reward, that's the whole association. 00:47:54.83\00:47:57.26 You know, this is funny, that touches me 00:47:57.39\00:47:58.99 because my dad you know the story, 00:47:59.00\00:48:01.44 I baptized my father one month before he had 00:48:02.08\00:48:04.56 a stroke in the past. I think he was in his 00:48:05.19\00:48:07.04 early 70s at the time, lived his life for himself 00:48:07.05\00:48:10.88 and for Satan and the Lord just touched him, 00:48:10.89\00:48:15.06 I flew home and I baptized and then one 00:48:15.44\00:48:17.25 month later my mom called and said, 00:48:17.26\00:48:19.09 your father has had a stroke and he died. 00:48:19.10\00:48:21.16 So, he only got one month to serve the Lord, 00:48:21.34\00:48:23.28 but I use that text at, at the funeral that he 00:48:24.02\00:48:28.82 gets the same heaven, as a person who served 00:48:28.83\00:48:30.67 the Lord all his life. That's a blessing. 00:48:30.68\00:48:32.50 And you know he gets, he gets a house in the 00:48:32.61\00:48:34.77 city, he doesn't get a house outside some place. 00:48:34.78\00:48:36.90 He gets a penny like, he gets the same penny 00:48:36.91\00:48:38.54 you know the one that comes at the 11th hour, 00:48:38.55\00:48:40.14 gets the same penny. And it shows the fairness 00:48:40.15\00:48:42.51 of, God is fair, God wants us all to be saved. 00:48:42.52\00:48:45.48 If we are not saved we cannot lay the blame 00:48:46.21\00:48:48.22 at God's, at God' feet, he spend his whole life 00:48:48.23\00:48:51.46 run from the Lord, got in 30 days, but he got in. 00:48:51.69\00:48:55.31 Praise the Lord. And that's what, 00:48:55.56\00:48:56.53 that's what counts? That makes a difference, 00:48:56.54\00:48:57.83 so friends the penny is, as the most scorned 00:48:57.84\00:49:04.46 coin in America, if a penny is on the ground 00:49:04.86\00:49:08.05 people walk by penny, they throw pennies 00:49:08.07\00:49:10.42 and wishing well, we don't believe in wishing 00:49:10.86\00:49:12.86 wells, but it's just, it seems like anybody of 00:49:12.87\00:49:15.31 water in the mall. Is gonna have some 00:49:15.32\00:49:17.44 pennies in it. People are gonna throw coins in it, 00:49:17.45\00:49:19.19 quarters, nickels, dimes and I don't know, 00:49:19.99\00:49:21.80 I think they would do well, I mean I would like 00:49:22.19\00:49:24.29 to be the guy that empties the well. Yeah. 00:49:24.30\00:49:25.90 Rather than feels it up because you get a lot 00:49:26.49\00:49:28.65 more that, but I want to now go and you know, 00:49:28.66\00:49:31.69 there are so much in the Bible talked about in 00:49:31.70\00:49:33.43 reference to money. Do you know? 00:49:33.44\00:49:35.44 You may not know this trivia, but money is 00:49:35.59\00:49:39.20 talked about, it's mentioned more than hell 00:49:39.39\00:49:42.87 and the grave. It's mention more than 00:49:43.41\00:49:47.59 hell and the grave, and I put the word there 00:49:47.60\00:49:50.25 grace, but I actually meant grave. 00:49:50.26\00:49:51.95 When you look at the word hell and the grave 00:49:52.20\00:49:54.65 combined they're mentioned a 121 times 00:49:54.99\00:49:57.43 scripture, but when the word money is used it's 00:49:57.44\00:50:00.70 found a 140 times and I'm using the reference 00:50:00.71\00:50:03.65 of the King James Version, one of the older 00:50:03.66\00:50:05.51 translations. So, you'll find that the Lord put 00:50:05.52\00:50:09.87 quite a bit of weight on the subject of money, 00:50:09.88\00:50:13.25 money, couple of facts about money, one, 00:50:13.26\00:50:16.23 we work for it, I do, what's the other one? 00:50:16.24\00:50:17.98 We live it, they're talking about qualities of 00:50:18.75\00:50:21.46 our lives, you cannot have a quality of life 00:50:21.47\00:50:23.12 without him not in this economy. 00:50:23.13\00:50:24.95 Money is the focused on nearly every business 00:50:26.74\00:50:29.15 transaction, you know what I think? 00:50:29.16\00:50:30.23 There are lot of businesses were closed like 00:50:30.24\00:50:31.82 yesterday, the people decided come just for 00:50:31.96\00:50:34.59 the service and not leave any money, 00:50:34.60\00:50:36.04 the waitress. Yeah, oh! My goodness, yes. 00:50:37.11\00:50:39.41 You know, she doesn't live for the salary; 00:50:39.78\00:50:41.34 she lives for the tips, for the tips, true. 00:50:41.67\00:50:43.30 The large restaurants they call it gratuity. 00:50:45.05\00:50:47.16 And the Lord, if you look at this whole thing C.A. 00:50:48.15\00:50:50.55 the Lord is some, one of the most gracious 00:50:51.14\00:50:53.04 in the, in the entire economy setting because 00:50:53.05\00:50:55.23 in the restaurant they want 15%, 00:50:56.14\00:50:57.96 they're gonna take their 15% gratuity when 00:50:59.75\00:51:01.88 there is a certain amount of people whether 00:51:01.89\00:51:03.21 you want to or not? Right. The government 00:51:03.22\00:51:05.47 wants 30%, or 33% of your salary, 00:51:05.48\00:51:08.18 but the Lord asks for 10%. Yeah. 00:51:08.85\00:51:11.25 So, God is most gracious out of all the three. 00:51:11.66\00:51:13.64 And he says, I'll return it back to and blessings, 00:51:13.81\00:51:15.58 now you can do more with it then 90% 00:51:16.11\00:51:18.15 and my blessing then 100% without more 00:51:18.36\00:51:20.57 blessing. That's right. So, if you give to Him, 00:51:20.58\00:51:22.59 He promised us to give back, yeah. 00:51:22.72\00:51:24.71 Also you'll find that there's a downside to money 00:51:25.37\00:51:28.09 and we're gonna be talking about this topic 00:51:28.77\00:51:29.74 again next weekend, by the way, 00:51:29.75\00:51:30.72 you maybe the very hosting with me I hope 00:51:32.56\00:51:34.22 that's possibility. Do my pleasure. 00:51:34.23\00:51:36.36 Okay, well then we start on this, 00:51:36.37\00:51:37.53 I'm gonna have you next week with me. 00:51:37.54\00:51:38.80 Money also sadly enough is the heart beast the 00:51:39.51\00:51:42.51 love of money, by the way I want to mention 00:51:42.52\00:51:44.54 there's a young man by the name of Anthony 00:51:44.55\00:51:46.28 in Australia, I'll ask this question and he says, 00:51:46.29\00:51:47.94 my wife and I have been having problems 00:51:48.97\00:51:50.65 about money, she doesn't like the way I use 00:51:50.66\00:51:53.44 the credit cards, she said that money is the root 00:51:53.45\00:51:55.70 of all evil, how can you help us get past these 00:51:55.71\00:51:58.11 money issues. Well money is not the root of 00:51:58.12\00:52:00.43 all evil, but the Bible tells us in First 00:52:00.44\00:52:01.88 Timothy 6 and verse 10: The, love of, 00:52:01.89\00:52:04.60 love of it. Yes, yes. So, there are people 00:52:04.84\00:52:07.77 doing time in jail for ripping off a bank. Yeah. 00:52:07.78\00:52:11.02 That they thought they were getting away with, 00:52:11.45\00:52:12.56 but they left a fingerprint, 00:52:13.51\00:52:14.53 or DNA or picture or an address, 00:52:15.14\00:52:17.48 holding this is card and the love of money is 00:52:17.74\00:52:21.15 behind many of the crimes committed in our 00:52:21.16\00:52:24.03 world today. Yeah, one of the things we have 00:52:24.04\00:52:25.99 listed is that it, it can be used to accomplish 00:52:26.00\00:52:27.97 good. So money, per say it's not a bad thing. 00:52:27.98\00:52:30.86 No. And, as pastors, you know we've counseled 00:52:30.87\00:52:33.93 people and a lot of marriages have certainly 00:52:33.94\00:52:36.91 been strained and broken up over how money 00:52:36.92\00:52:39.19 is spend. That's right. It's very important; 00:52:39.20\00:52:41.14 it's not something to take lightly. 00:52:41.15\00:52:42.64 Excuse me. Because again what we spend our 00:52:43.92\00:52:45.94 money on pretty much says what's going on in, 00:52:45.95\00:52:48.36 in our head. As just the Bible mentions it so 00:52:48.37\00:52:50.88 often, so frequently then it something that 00:52:51.49\00:52:53.73 Christians ought to be aware of, 00:52:53.92\00:52:55.40 they are to dedicate to the Lord and before 00:52:55.75\00:52:57.48 we start even un-patch, un-packaging our 00:52:57.49\00:53:00.71 Bible study, we need to say that this is an 00:53:00.72\00:53:03.26 area that should really ought to take to the Lord. 00:53:03.27\00:53:05.79 Every dime, not just the 10% as we return 00:53:06.20\00:53:08.27 to God, but the 90% that the Lord allows you 00:53:08.28\00:53:10.85 to have you ought to pray Lord how shall I 00:53:10.86\00:53:12.80 spend this to? That's right. Everything you 00:53:12.81\00:53:14.27 want you shouldn't buy, everything you see 00:53:14.28\00:53:15.92 you shouldn't want. And if you're married you 00:53:15.93\00:53:19.45 really need to dialogue with your spouse on 00:53:19.46\00:53:22.08 how money is spent because that kind of strain 00:53:22.09\00:53:23.84 can separate people and tear marriages apart. 00:53:23.85\00:53:26.04 Well, people get, people get I-ray, 00:53:26.18\00:53:27.80 I mean people that say, I will, I do at the altar, 00:53:27.81\00:53:29.81 they are so googly eyed, all of a sudden 00:53:29.82\00:53:32.11 somebody wants to spend more than the other 00:53:32.12\00:53:34.03 and wants to buy that they don't, 00:53:34.04\00:53:35.45 can't afford. And especially around the 00:53:35.58\00:53:38.32 holiday seasons, whatever it is, 00:53:38.33\00:53:39.75 with thanksgiving or Christmas or whatever 00:53:39.76\00:53:41.64 holidays it is, a memorial day sale, 00:53:41.87\00:53:44.22 it's a memorial day because you remember all 00:53:44.26\00:53:46.12 those bills. They will remind you of how terrible 00:53:46.13\00:53:49.96 the Christmas was? It's not a time of cheers, 00:53:49.97\00:53:52.57 a time of dread, yeah, for some people they go 00:53:52.58\00:53:54.77 in debt. The worst place to be sometimes during 00:53:54.78\00:53:58.17 the holiday season is in the mall, 00:53:58.18\00:53:59.54 because many of the vendors just extend 00:54:00.14\00:54:01.97 credit without even checking. Oh! Yes. 00:54:01.98\00:54:03.48 Because they know that you're gonna pay 00:54:03.49\00:54:04.68 that bill. People declare bankruptcy, 00:54:04.69\00:54:07.85 sometimes a year after and then you have 00:54:08.41\00:54:10.67 these differed payment things, be careful. 00:54:10.68\00:54:12.58 Oh! Yeah. Be careful friends. No interest 00:54:12.59\00:54:14.75 for 90 days as same as cash, well wait 00:54:14.76\00:54:18.79 for 90 days and then buy it, pay for it. 00:54:18.80\00:54:21.87 Save your money and then pay for cash. 00:54:21.88\00:54:23.82 No interest for 18 months, but what they 00:54:24.23\00:54:27.01 don't tell you is that the end of the 18 months 00:54:27.02\00:54:28.87 all that interest that you could have avoided, 00:54:28.88\00:54:31.53 if you have had paid it before the 18 months 00:54:31.54\00:54:32.92 came instantly compounded, it's back there 00:54:32.93\00:54:35.22 waiting for you and you miss that 18 month 00:54:35.23\00:54:36.90 of grace period, right, boom 18 months of 00:54:36.91\00:54:39.16 interest just bounded on you again. 00:54:39.17\00:54:40.68 Yeah, this goes back to what we, 00:54:40.69\00:54:42.14 we talked about a little bit ago, this idea of, 00:54:42.30\00:54:44.21 of the celebration of Christmas, 00:54:44.22\00:54:45.63 don't get yourself into this must have scenario, 00:54:45.96\00:54:50.30 the only thing you must have is Jesus. 00:54:50.47\00:54:52.02 That's right. Good luck with that. 00:54:52.03\00:54:53.00 If you get a little something under the tree, 00:54:53.81\00:54:55.50 praise the Lord, if you don't have a tree, 00:54:55.77\00:54:57.52 praise the Lord. That's right, 00:54:57.93\00:54:58.90 if you have a gift, praise the Lord, 00:54:58.91\00:55:00.52 if you don't have a gift, you praise the Lord 00:55:00.80\00:55:02.36 anyway, anyway because you've got Jesus. 00:55:02.37\00:55:04.31 And Jesus is all you really need. That's right. 00:55:04.52\00:55:06.77 Yeah. If you have life you've got to gift. 00:55:06.78\00:55:09.76 Amen. There are those today and, 00:55:09.77\00:55:11.82 by the way my wife sometimes say, 00:55:13.52\00:55:14.71 well honey what do you want for your birthday? 00:55:14.72\00:55:16.54 And I said you know, honey I really don't 00:55:16.99\00:55:18.42 need anything more, I mean I, I feel comfortable 00:55:18.62\00:55:21.31 with what I have. Now, when we think about 00:55:21.32\00:55:24.17 the wants, sometimes our wants supersede 00:55:24.45\00:55:27.85 our needs. And the Lord promised to supply 00:55:27.86\00:55:30.39 all of our need according to his riches. 00:55:30.40\00:55:32.69 Yeah. Every now and then had thrown a want, 00:55:32.81\00:55:34.59 yeah, if he sees it doesn't hinder our walk 00:55:34.60\00:55:36.54 with him. When, when is your birthday? 00:55:36.55\00:55:37.52 July 30th. Yeah, my birthday was just 00:55:37.94\00:55:39.56 last week. That's right. And you didn't get me 00:55:39.57\00:55:41.81 a present. Oh! But I love you anyway. 00:55:41.82\00:55:44.20 Come on over, I'll give something larger on 00:55:45.32\00:55:47.05 Sabbath. And I just say to that say, you know, 00:55:47.06\00:55:49.47 we get hung upon these traditions and these 00:55:50.05\00:55:51.21 things are not important. Right. 00:55:51.22\00:55:52.39 What we, what we need is Jesus? 00:55:53.15\00:55:54.90 That's right. And if we can share Jesus we're, 00:55:54.94\00:55:56.52 we're sharing all that we need. So, friends, 00:55:56.53\00:55:58.77 remember that, don't let money ignite division 00:55:58.78\00:56:01.00 in your family. A children nowadays, 00:56:01.01\00:56:03.68 well children always spoiled I mean I, 00:56:04.43\00:56:06.75 I may have been spoiled probably to some degree, 00:56:07.10\00:56:10.60 but I was raised by a man who told me the 00:56:10.85\00:56:12.55 word no. And so, I got used to it. 00:56:12.56\00:56:14.48 No, don't ask, no. But there are children 00:56:15.65\00:56:19.01 nowadays that say they have to have, 00:56:19.02\00:56:21.49 I have to have the latest pair of tennis shoes. 00:56:21.96\00:56:25.24 I have to have the latest cell phone, 00:56:25.78\00:56:27.78 I mean I can't have just the cell phone that 00:56:28.05\00:56:29.81 receives phone calls, I've got to get one that 00:56:29.82\00:56:31.90 has a camera, I've got to get one that and as 00:56:31.91\00:56:34.99 able to download music. Yeah. You know, 00:56:35.00\00:56:37.30 they said this morning on the news, 00:56:37.31\00:56:39.00 one of the reasons why the people in Iraq 00:56:39.34\00:56:41.00 and you maybe watching this from Iraq, 00:56:41.07\00:56:42.50 I don't know we've, we've got receive some 00:56:42.51\00:56:44.32 emails, I won't to tell you where they come 00:56:44.33\00:56:45.43 from, but in the Middle east and some of these 00:56:45.44\00:56:46.72 Muslim countries. One person says, 00:56:46.73\00:56:49.02 one of the indications that Iraq is doing a 00:56:49.03\00:56:51.41 lot better than used to, is that before the 00:56:51.42\00:56:54.63 Iraq and before the American invasion Iraq 00:56:54.64\00:56:56.97 only 6% of the society owned cell phones. 00:56:57.52\00:57:00.80 Since, America has enraged in Iraq 62% now 00:57:01.45\00:57:04.88 own cell phones. Now, whether that's a 00:57:04.89\00:57:07.13 good thing or bad thing I don't know, yeah, 00:57:07.14\00:57:09.34 but if you have to pay a phone bill, that may 00:57:09.35\00:57:12.22 not be the greatest blessing. So, friends, 00:57:12.23\00:57:14.76 as you notice today, we're just beginning to 00:57:14.77\00:57:16.23 unpack this story, yeah, this subject on money 00:57:16.24\00:57:18.88 and we're gonna dive into it next week. 00:57:18.89\00:57:20.24 This is gonna be fun. About how important it 00:57:20.25\00:57:22.43 is to be stewards of what God has entrusted 00:57:22.44\00:57:24.21 to you, because you know what you know, what? 00:57:24.22\00:57:25.50 Nothings worst than a bro person, 00:57:25.69\00:57:27.63 but even worst than that is a person who is 00:57:28.31\00:57:29.96 devoid of the presence of Christ in our life. 00:57:29.97\00:57:31.92 If you don't have money you can get that, 00:57:31.93\00:57:33.66 but if you don't have Jesus everything else 00:57:34.10\00:57:35.93 pales into insignificance. So, here at House 00:57:36.34\00:57:38.10 Calls remember housecalls@3abn.org 00:57:38.11\00:57:40.75 if you want to send a question, 00:57:40.76\00:57:41.83 but friends, go to your Bible, 00:57:42.24\00:57:43.89 see what the Lord says about money and 00:57:43.99\00:57:45.69 then sit down with your husband, 00:57:45.70\00:57:47.63 your wife, your children and let them know 00:57:47.64\00:57:49.54 that there is a tremendous blessing waiting 00:57:49.55\00:57:51.05 for them.
