Now when they heard this, 00:02:57.03\00:02:58.68 they were cut to the heart, 00:02:58.69\00:03:00.78 and said to Peter and the rest of the 00:03:02.21\00:03:03.96 apostles, men and brethren, 00:03:03.97\00:03:05.64 what shall we do? Then Peter said to them, 00:03:05.65\00:03:10.72 Repent, John, what's the first thing 00:03:11.12\00:03:13.56 they need to do? 00:03:13.57\00:03:14.54 Repent. Repent, and let every one of you be 00:03:14.55\00:03:17.80 baptized in the name of Jesus Christ 00:03:18.31\00:03:20.89 for the remission of sins, 00:03:20.90\00:03:22.16 and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 00:03:22.17\00:03:25.39 Two things, repent and be baptized. 00:03:25.40\00:03:29.41 That's right. You know sometimes John 00:03:29.91\00:03:30.95 I think we get a little bit confused 00:03:30.96\00:03:32.79 about the subject of baptism, 00:03:32.80\00:03:34.09 because we almost make it the requirement 00:03:34.45\00:03:36.51 for salvation, but you know the Bible 00:03:36.52\00:03:39.19 does say that repentance brings salvation. 00:03:39.20\00:03:41.41 So, by our act of repentance 00:03:42.69\00:03:44.72 and proclaiming our faith in Jesus Christ, 00:03:44.73\00:03:46.51 we become justified by his blood. 00:03:47.21\00:03:48.96 But, the response of that faith, 00:03:49.48\00:03:51.22 the response of that is our act of obedience 00:03:51.76\00:03:54.07 to be baptized, that's right. 00:03:54.08\00:03:55.50 It's a proclamation publicly that 00:03:55.51\00:03:57.67 we are going to die to our old life 00:03:57.68\00:03:59.31 and live in the newness of Christ Jesus 00:03:59.68\00:04:01.60 from that point forward. 00:04:01.61\00:04:02.59 And in the way you see here early on, 00:04:02.97\00:04:04.85 faith and works going together, 00:04:04.86\00:04:06.30 that's right. Hand in hand, 00:04:06.31\00:04:07.42 the faith is what's saves you, 00:04:07.43\00:04:09.00 it's a free gift from God, the work of obedience 00:04:09.01\00:04:11.99 to be baptized, to put aside the old life 00:04:12.00\00:04:14.62 and move into the newness of Jesus Christ 00:04:15.06\00:04:16.91 is our act of obedience to be sanctified 00:04:17.51\00:04:19.46 from that point on our walk with God, 00:04:19.47\00:04:21.33 day by day. But, the question is, 00:04:21.97\00:04:24.14 do you have to be baptized to be saved? 00:04:24.15\00:04:25.76 Well, point blank no, but, okay it's always a but, 00:04:26.87\00:04:30.95 but changes things, doesn't it? 00:04:30.96\00:04:32.47 There are many who maybe have been 00:04:33.21\00:04:35.09 on their dead bed, 00:04:35.10\00:04:36.07 who have confessed, who repentant 00:04:36.08\00:04:37.40 and accept Christ and they've been saved. 00:04:37.41\00:04:39.31 I wouldn't question that, 00:04:39.32\00:04:40.32 but they haven't been baptized. 00:04:41.36\00:04:42.52 The question is, what is your response 00:04:43.19\00:04:45.17 if you can be baptized with the opportunity 00:04:45.18\00:04:48.31 that stands before you? 00:04:48.32\00:04:49.76 Absolutely. The command is, 00:04:50.15\00:04:52.01 be baptized into Christ Jesus, 00:04:52.02\00:04:54.24 because God wants to do something in your life. 00:04:54.25\00:04:56.47 And he has a plan for your life, 00:04:57.10\00:04:58.61 and wants to workout that salvation 00:04:59.04\00:05:00.69 that he's given you. 00:05:00.70\00:05:01.67 So, if you resist that call to be baptized, 00:05:01.86\00:05:05.86 that command, there is a problem, 00:05:05.87\00:05:07.22 but if you have no opportunity to be baptized 00:05:07.80\00:05:10.36 then you know understanding it properly, 00:05:11.21\00:05:13.32 salvation isn't taken from you. 00:05:13.33\00:05:14.93 But, with the opportunity, 00:05:15.82\00:05:16.97 yes, we should be baptized. 00:05:16.98\00:05:18.22 Now Jesus has done something for those, 00:05:18.23\00:05:20.78 and I know this is coming to others 00:05:22.00\00:05:24.32 and you may have heard this before, 00:05:24.33\00:05:25.79 but Jesus has been baptized 00:05:25.80\00:05:27.02 and did he need to be baptized from his sin? 00:05:27.60\00:05:29.58 No. He didn't have an old life that 00:05:30.13\00:05:31.70 he needed to put away. 00:05:31.71\00:05:32.68 Right. But, I believe in that act, 00:05:32.69\00:05:34.36 he was showing us the obedience that 00:05:34.77\00:05:37.32 we need to have in our response to faith 00:05:37.33\00:05:39.48 and being baptized into Christ. 00:05:39.53\00:05:41.10 And so, you know I would even suggest 00:05:41.11\00:05:42.90 that you know he did that for those maybe 00:05:42.91\00:05:44.55 who have not had an opportunity to be baptized. 00:05:44.56\00:05:47.15 But I know maybe you have some things 00:05:47.16\00:05:48.49 to share John, I'll let you go ahead 00:05:48.50\00:05:50.48 and share a perspective. 00:05:50.84\00:05:51.81 You know when you talk about baptism 00:05:52.22\00:05:53.48 and this subject is a very important subject. 00:05:53.49\00:05:55.80 It's amazing that baptism involves water. 00:05:56.06\00:05:58.52 And when we talk about the being born again, 00:05:58.89\00:06:01.93 you think about the first birth, 00:06:01.94\00:06:03.30 all of us to some degree are housed in a fluid, 00:06:03.31\00:06:07.75 that's right and before we are born the first time, 00:06:07.76\00:06:11.27 Right. I thought it was significant how the Lord 00:06:11.28\00:06:13.32 uses water as a symbol of baptism 00:06:13.33\00:06:15.64 to the new life. But it even goes a step further, 00:06:15.83\00:06:19.03 because baptism symbolizes death. 00:06:19.04\00:06:21.77 The water, burial, the coming up out of water 00:06:22.36\00:06:25.87 the walking into the newness of life. 00:06:25.88\00:06:27.80 Which is the why it's immersion. 00:06:27.81\00:06:28.79 Exactly. Look at Romans chapter 6, 00:06:29.10\00:06:32.22 this is a beautiful comparison 00:06:32.81\00:06:34.94 and it's amazing you started with that question, 00:06:34.95\00:06:36.61 because my very next question takes us right 00:06:36.62\00:06:38.99 to Romans and we didn't plan that, 00:06:39.00\00:06:40.82 but notice what it's says here. 00:06:41.30\00:06:42.66 Starting with verse 3, 00:06:43.43\00:06:46.07 and I'm reading the New King James Version 00:06:46.53\00:06:48.49 it says, oh do you not know that as many 00:06:48.50\00:06:51.00 of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus 00:06:51.01\00:06:53.49 were baptized into his death? 00:06:53.83\00:06:55.74 And so the very first thing that baptism 00:06:55.96\00:06:57.69 symbolizes is an outward expression 00:06:57.70\00:06:59.86 of an inward death to the old man, 00:06:59.87\00:07:02.52 that's right. That old man of sin that was with us 00:07:02.53\00:07:04.86 from the time of our first birth, 00:07:04.87\00:07:06.10 as in Adam, all die First Corinthians 15 verse 22, 00:07:06.47\00:07:09.64 even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 00:07:10.28\00:07:12.57 So, you will notice, baptized into Christ Jesus. 00:07:13.06\00:07:16.09 Now verse 4, Therefore we were buried with him 00:07:16.61\00:07:20.06 through baptism into death: 00:07:20.50\00:07:22.35 that just as Christ was raised from the dead 00:07:22.82\00:07:25.32 by the glory of the Father, 00:07:25.33\00:07:26.71 even so we also should walk in newness of life. 00:07:27.10\00:07:30.92 And here's the key text, 00:07:30.93\00:07:32.16 For if we have been united together 00:07:32.68\00:07:35.24 in the likeness of His death, 00:07:35.25\00:07:36.53 that's baptism, that's right, 00:07:36.54\00:07:38.07 certainly we also shall be in the likeness 00:07:38.60\00:07:41.02 of His resurrection, because what have 00:07:41.03\00:07:43.64 we put to death? 00:07:43.65\00:07:44.62 Coming up out of the water. 00:07:44.65\00:07:45.62 going down to the watery grave 00:07:45.87\00:07:47.43 and coming up on the other side. 00:07:47.90\00:07:49.39 We are symbolizing we have die to that old man, 00:07:49.40\00:07:51.59 and that's why verse 6 read that for us John. 00:07:52.15\00:07:54.06 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified 00:07:54.47\00:07:57.14 with Him, that the body of sin might be 00:07:57.15\00:08:00.91 done away with, and that we should 00:08:00.92\00:08:02.77 no longer be slaves of sin. 00:08:02.78\00:08:04.53 That's right in the last.. 00:08:04.54\00:08:05.51 This is what salvation was about anyway. 00:08:05.52\00:08:07.05 Freedom from sin. 00:08:07.44\00:08:08.41 That's right, for he who has died 00:08:08.42\00:08:10.26 has been freed from sin. 00:08:10.27\00:08:11.85 And so, people would want to know 00:08:11.86\00:08:13.14 how did you know, how does the person 00:08:13.15\00:08:15.27 know that we have died to sin, 00:08:15.28\00:08:16.51 how are we declaring that? 00:08:16.52\00:08:17.74 Well, first of all we have repented, 00:08:17.75\00:08:19.47 repentance is the first step, Lord, 00:08:19.94\00:08:21.87 I need a new life, I need a new start. 00:08:21.88\00:08:23.66 And it's the goodness of God by the way 00:08:23.67\00:08:25.95 that leads us to repentance, that's right. 00:08:25.96\00:08:27.79 So, when we see how good God is to us, 00:08:27.80\00:08:29.60 we want to repent, he changes our heart. 00:08:29.61\00:08:31.51 Then we take that next step into, 00:08:31.88\00:08:34.58 and I talked about this, how baptism is a step 00:08:35.14\00:08:37.53 into the three phases. 00:08:37.54\00:08:39.05 At first, it's stepped into a relationship, 00:08:39.45\00:08:41.23 a working of relationship, 00:08:41.88\00:08:43.52 I call this a relationship, a saving relationship. 00:08:44.16\00:08:48.51 And then a growing relationship, 00:08:49.09\00:08:51.24 so we first entered a saving relationship, 00:08:51.25\00:08:53.61 that's what that salvation is all about. 00:08:53.95\00:08:55.29 Then we enter a growing relationship through 00:08:55.58\00:08:57.79 baptism and the new life. 00:08:57.80\00:08:58.96 And then we also enter a working relationship. 00:08:58.97\00:09:01.79 See, so many people want to be saved 00:09:02.15\00:09:03.98 and want to grow, but how many people 00:09:03.99\00:09:05.76 want to be involved in the working relationship. 00:09:05.77\00:09:07.59 But yes, is it necessary to be baptized, 00:09:07.89\00:09:10.12 if you dying to the old man and being born 00:09:10.43\00:09:13.11 to the new yes, But, if you cannot be, 00:09:13.12\00:09:15.11 if you're not physically able, 00:09:15.12\00:09:16.10 the Lord has made provision for that, 00:09:16.42\00:09:17.67 and that's what John has , amen. 00:09:17.68\00:09:19.47 We have a question from Margery, 00:09:20.25\00:09:22.79 very good question. Thank Margery for this question. 00:09:22.80\00:09:25.20 The Bible tells us that all have sinned 00:09:25.66\00:09:28.44 and come short of the glory of God, 00:09:28.45\00:09:30.03 it also says that our righteousness 00:09:30.72\00:09:32.81 is as filthy rags, but we see that Jesus, 00:09:32.82\00:09:36.11 Jesus Christ also taking a form of man, 00:09:37.00\00:09:40.17 lived a sinless life on earth. 00:09:40.18\00:09:41.87 Is it possible for anyone to live a sinless life? 00:09:42.69\00:09:45.92 Please explain why or why not with 00:09:45.93\00:09:48.29 scriptural references? Now you know friends, 00:09:48.30\00:09:50.56 that's an entire Bible study. It is. 00:09:50.57\00:09:52.31 But, I'm gonna try to get to the point because 00:09:52.66\00:09:54.92 I think this is a very pertinent question. 00:09:54.93\00:09:57.35 Couple of things I wanna point out 00:09:57.85\00:09:59.24 and I want to go to Romans 6 by the way 00:09:59.25\00:10:02.23 and then we're gonna look at Romans 7 00:10:02.63\00:10:04.57 and a short few verses in Romans 8, 00:10:04.58\00:10:07.01 but where I want to begin and I'm gonna put 00:10:07.64\00:10:10.48 a piece of paper here, so that I don't lose 00:10:10.49\00:10:11.85 Romans 6. I want to begin with 00:10:11.86\00:10:13.66 a few texts and John, if you could help me out. 00:10:13.67\00:10:15.18 First John chapter 2 and verse 1, 00:10:15.77\00:10:19.36 this is a text that I wanna begin 00:10:19.95\00:10:21.18 by sharing with you. 00:10:21.19\00:10:22.16 First John chapter 2 and verse 1, 00:10:22.17\00:10:24.31 that's a very important text, go ahead John. 00:10:25.97\00:10:29.32 My little children, these things I write to you, 00:10:29.72\00:10:31.99 so that you may not sin. 00:10:32.00\00:10:33.34 And if anyone sins, we have an advocate 00:10:34.38\00:10:36.95 with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 00:10:36.96\00:10:39.22 Okay, he says I'm writing these things, 00:10:39.23\00:10:41.01 so that you not sin, but if you do, 00:10:41.02\00:10:43.60 now notice the text here, many people 00:10:44.27\00:10:46.65 that understand the Greek application 00:10:46.66\00:10:48.35 of that is I'm writing this to you so that 00:10:48.36\00:10:50.94 you do not practice sinning, right. 00:10:50.95\00:10:52.86 And he goes on to say just that, 00:10:53.50\00:10:55.34 the practice of sin, okay, go ahead. 00:10:55.90\00:10:57.23 And, did you want to read that passage? 00:10:57.77\00:11:00.72 No, no, no, no, go ahead. 00:11:00.73\00:11:01.70 Okay, but then you look at 00:11:01.71\00:11:02.89 First John 3 and verse 9, notice what it says, 00:11:02.90\00:11:05.90 here's another text and these are the texts 00:11:05.91\00:11:07.53 that come up in the discussion 00:11:07.54\00:11:09.21 of can we be sinless, can we be prefect. 00:11:09.22\00:11:11.29 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, 00:11:11.87\00:11:14.64 there is again the application does not 00:11:14.65\00:11:16.79 practice sin, here is the reason for His seed 00:11:16.80\00:11:19.75 remains in him; and he cannot sin, 00:11:19.76\00:11:22.70 because he has been born of God. 00:11:23.10\00:11:25.45 The in Christ and I'm gonna use the word motif, 00:11:26.20\00:11:30.18 the in Christ application of scripture points out 00:11:30.19\00:11:32.92 a number of things. Now, I can best illustrate this 00:11:32.93\00:11:36.30 with a glove in hand. 00:11:36.31\00:11:37.44 Now a glove in and of itself 00:11:37.91\00:11:39.39 has absolutely no life. I should have thought 00:11:39.65\00:11:42.50 about that and brought a glove with me. You have? 00:11:42.51\00:11:44.43 I have a glove with me but I can't use 00:11:44.87\00:11:46.13 it right now, because I'll have to get up 00:11:46.14\00:11:47.38 and go get it. But, the glove has absolutely 00:11:47.39\00:11:52.21 no life in and of itself and so just consider 00:11:52.22\00:11:54.98 the glove as a person being dead to sin, 00:11:54.99\00:11:57.31 can't do anything. They can't move, 00:11:58.05\00:12:00.12 they can't function, because they said 00:12:00.13\00:12:01.76 they're now dead, that old man has been 00:12:01.77\00:12:04.01 put to dead, but if Christ comes into that glove, 00:12:04.02\00:12:07.37 if he now was the life in that glove, 00:12:07.38\00:12:09.39 that glove has a new life from other source 00:12:09.40\00:12:12.73 and it no longer does what it did before it died. 00:12:12.88\00:12:15.46 So, Christ in us is the hope of the glory 00:12:16.19\00:12:18.46 and you find over and over again what causes us 00:12:18.47\00:12:21.67 to be righteous and sinless is his 00:12:21.68\00:12:25.25 righteousness being imputed to us. 00:12:25.26\00:12:27.55 In other words, you're covered in his robe 00:12:27.99\00:12:29.73 and if he is sinless at what point 00:12:30.09\00:12:32.52 do you have to continue to strive to be sinless. 00:12:33.80\00:12:36.31 The catch in this whole thing is in Romans 6 00:12:37.02\00:12:39.81 and I want you to get this now. 00:12:39.82\00:12:40.86 You know, I wanna, let me read this here before 00:12:40.87\00:12:43.13 we go there. Sure. It says, 00:12:43.14\00:12:44.32 Whoever abides in Him does not sin, right. 00:12:44.33\00:12:47.17 This is from First John chapter 3, and verse 9. 00:12:47.18\00:12:50.83 And then he goes on define what that means, 00:12:50.84\00:12:53.60 Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 00:12:53.61\00:12:56.12 And some would say, wow, so then.. 00:12:56.13\00:12:57.82 What verse are you reading by the way? 00:12:57.83\00:12:59.05 I'm reading verse, beginning in verse 6, okay. 00:12:59.06\00:13:01.31 And so some would say well, 00:13:01.32\00:13:02.62 you know there are some who have sinned, 00:13:03.14\00:13:05.27 does that mean they are not in Christ? 00:13:05.28\00:13:06.68 Well, let's read on, we've got to go verse 7, okay. 00:13:06.69\00:13:09.49 Little children, let no one deceive you. 00:13:09.89\00:13:11.85 He who practices righteousness is righteous, 00:13:11.86\00:13:15.61 that's right, just as He is righteous. 00:13:15.62\00:13:17.85 In other words, the practice of righteousness 00:13:18.51\00:13:20.93 shows that you are in Christ and abiding in him, 00:13:21.20\00:13:23.28 that's right. The practice of sin shows that 00:13:23.29\00:13:26.46 you are not in Christ, but he next verse says 00:13:26.47\00:13:28.80 that you are of the devil. 00:13:28.81\00:13:29.78 It's the practice John as you're saying, 00:13:30.19\00:13:32.20 it's the habitual practicing 00:13:32.21\00:13:33.94 of whichever life that you chose. 00:13:33.95\00:13:36.74 And so, some may strive to practice righteousness, 00:13:37.07\00:13:40.48 yet commit a sin because they failed 00:13:40.83\00:13:43.71 on occasion, and that's where your first 00:13:43.72\00:13:45.79 verse comes into play which it says, 00:13:45.80\00:13:47.55 if any man sins, we have an advocate 00:13:48.01\00:13:49.71 with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 00:13:49.72\00:13:51.68 And here's something I have to say before 00:13:51.69\00:13:53.10 you go to Romans, go right ahead, 00:13:53.11\00:13:54.08 I'm happy. We have a record book in heaven, 00:13:54.09\00:13:57.56 don't we? That's right. 00:13:57.57\00:13:58.54 And our sins are recorded on that record book, 00:13:58.80\00:14:01.43 but the thing about being in Christ 00:14:01.78\00:14:03.15 is at the moment that you sin, 00:14:03.16\00:14:04.28 the blood is applied in behalf 00:14:06.54\00:14:08.98 of us by Jesus Christ. 00:14:08.99\00:14:10.84 And so that's what it's saying, 00:14:11.72\00:14:12.88 if anyone says we have an advocate 00:14:12.89\00:14:14.87 with the father, he sees, oh he's my child, 00:14:14.88\00:14:17.28 his sinned covered, that's right. 00:14:17.29\00:14:19.11 We're not exposed, that's the wonder of 00:14:19.12\00:14:22.24 being and abiding in Christ. 00:14:22.25\00:14:24.09 He is our intercessor, but when we sin 00:14:24.10\00:14:27.06 and the sin continues to be recorded, 00:14:27.07\00:14:30.10 Jesus starts to say, oh boy, 00:14:30.37\00:14:32.30 there is a habitual re-practicing 00:14:33.13\00:14:35.46 of this and then of course 00:14:35.47\00:14:37.31 we see in Hebrews chapter 10 00:14:37.32\00:14:39.34 that those who commit willful sin, 00:14:39.85\00:14:41.79 they are no longer remains a sacrifice for. 00:14:41.80\00:14:43.98 In other words the blood of Christ that 00:14:44.55\00:14:45.97 was applied for your sin, once it becomes 00:14:45.98\00:14:48.26 habitual or willful, there no longer 00:14:48.27\00:14:50.22 is the application of that blood, his sacrifice. 00:14:50.23\00:14:52.72 And then you become exposed. 00:14:53.42\00:14:55.23 No sacrifice that is made or intercession 00:14:56.17\00:14:59.16 that is made for your sin. 00:14:59.17\00:15:00.14 I was want to give the practical application 00:15:00.15\00:15:01.75 of salvation being in Christ and the practice 00:15:01.76\00:15:04.82 of sin or the practice of righteousness. 00:15:04.83\00:15:07.01 Now, let's go to Romans. 00:15:07.02\00:15:08.27 Well, that was a good foundation you laid. 00:15:08.28\00:15:09.89 Because, when you think about 00:15:10.36\00:15:11.37 Paul's application and understanding 00:15:11.38\00:15:14.21 of what is required of the Christian, 00:15:14.22\00:15:16.66 when he or she gives his or her life to Christ, 00:15:16.96\00:15:19.25 he is in essence saying, 00:15:19.74\00:15:20.73 you have a wonderful new start. 00:15:21.03\00:15:23.16 In other words, you have been saved, 00:15:23.17\00:15:24.53 first of all, justification is saved from the 00:15:24.54\00:15:26.97 penalty of sin, you've taken off of dead row, 00:15:26.98\00:15:29.65 like John just pointed out. 00:15:29.66\00:15:30.66 All those sins that required your death 00:15:30.67\00:15:34.12 has been atoned for. So, therefore because 00:15:34.50\00:15:38.75 Jesus died, his atonement is now applied to you, 00:15:38.76\00:15:41.90 you no longer have to die physically. 00:15:42.29\00:15:44.28 But, you have to die spiritually everyday. 00:15:44.67\00:15:46.52 So, when you are saved from the penalty of sin, 00:15:47.02\00:15:49.41 that's justification, that's the first stage. 00:15:49.77\00:15:51.84 The sin's being wiped away, but here's the beauty 00:15:52.28\00:15:54.71 of the daily life. The Lord wants to save us 00:15:54.72\00:15:57.06 from the power of sin, the beauty of that is, 00:15:57.07\00:16:00.45 we still have something that's going 00:16:01.34\00:16:02.93 to cause us to stumble every now and then. 00:16:02.94\00:16:05.21 And look at Romans 6 and verse 12, 00:16:05.78\00:16:07.73 here is what we talked about the choice. 00:16:08.59\00:16:10.08 We read that a moment ago, 00:16:10.76\00:16:11.78 talking about those who are dead to sin 00:16:11.79\00:16:14.97 cannot live any longer in it. 00:16:14.98\00:16:16.40 But notice verse 12, 00:16:16.68\00:16:17.66 here is the choice part. 00:16:17.67\00:16:18.65 Therefore, do not let sin reign 00:16:19.11\00:16:23.19 in your mortal body, 00:16:23.20\00:16:24.67 that you should observe it, 00:16:25.07\00:16:26.42 or should obey it in its lusts. 00:16:26.43\00:16:28.47 And do not present your members 00:16:28.48\00:16:30.58 as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, 00:16:30.59\00:16:32.85 but present yourselves to God as being 00:16:33.34\00:16:35.66 alive from the dead, and your members 00:16:35.67\00:16:38.39 as instruments of righteousness to God. 00:16:38.83\00:16:41.20 For sin shall not have dominion over you, 00:16:41.70\00:16:44.69 for you are not under law but under grace. 00:16:45.06\00:16:47.52 Somebody heard me read that in this 00:16:47.85\00:16:49.22 and they said, there you guys go, 00:16:49.23\00:16:50.49 we are not under the law, 00:16:51.08\00:16:52.68 we are under grace. 00:16:53.02\00:16:54.13 I want you to also understand something 00:16:54.48\00:16:56.12 as to why Paul says don't let sin reign 00:16:56.47\00:16:58.46 in your mortal body, because there is something 00:16:58.47\00:17:00.80 that we are incapable of doing John, 00:17:00.81\00:17:02.95 unless we're born again. 00:17:03.61\00:17:04.58 I believe it's Matthew 7 verse 15 that's says, 00:17:04.95\00:17:07.51 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, 00:17:09.10\00:17:11.22 and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 00:17:11.23\00:17:13.61 That is the law of reciprocity 00:17:14.45\00:17:17.70 or reciprocating values, in other words 00:17:17.71\00:17:20.70 you can't get a bad thing out of something 00:17:20.71\00:17:23.53 good and you can't get a good thing out 00:17:23.54\00:17:25.35 of something bad, right. 00:17:25.36\00:17:26.53 So, what happens here is a lot of people say 00:17:26.93\00:17:28.68 well I'm so glad that Jesus' death 00:17:28.69\00:17:31.47 has freed us from the law. 00:17:31.48\00:17:32.81 But I want you to understand what law 00:17:33.44\00:17:34.53 he is talking about. Now, let's look at 00:17:34.54\00:17:36.48 Romans chapter 7 and verse 22 00:17:36.49\00:17:39.95 and we're gonna look at verse 23, 00:17:40.40\00:17:41.63 just a touch of few things, 00:17:42.02\00:17:43.06 because we'll start with verse 21, 00:17:43.42\00:17:45.48 because Paul's experience after he was born 00:17:45.49\00:17:47.60 again was one of frustration, 00:17:47.61\00:17:50.68 which is what people that are newly born 00:17:50.97\00:17:53.57 in Christ often experience. 00:17:53.58\00:17:55.27 He says in verse 21, I find then a law, 00:17:55.72\00:18:02.84 that evil is present with me, 00:18:03.44\00:18:05.63 the one who wills to do good. 00:18:06.62\00:18:08.82 I find there is a law here I wanna do good, 00:18:08.83\00:18:11.36 but there is a law here that evil is present 00:18:11.37\00:18:14.24 with me. Look at verse 22, 00:18:14.25\00:18:16.03 For I delight in the law of God according 00:18:16.75\00:18:19.36 to the inward man, but verse 23, 00:18:19.37\00:18:21.56 But I see another law in my members, 00:18:21.91\00:18:24.21 warring against the law of my mind, 00:18:24.75\00:18:26.74 and bringing me into captivity 00:18:27.21\00:18:29.09 to the law of sin, which is in my members. 00:18:29.10\00:18:31.51 The law of my mind, the law of God, 00:18:31.97\00:18:34.04 the law of sin and death. 00:18:34.45\00:18:36.07 He says, what is in essence saying is this 00:18:36.98\00:18:40.00 human nature that is still in my mortal body 00:18:40.01\00:18:43.32 is now in conflict with the God of my mind. 00:18:44.11\00:18:47.39 And there is a battle going on here, 00:18:48.35\00:18:49.63 that's why daily the only way the battle 00:18:49.64\00:18:51.37 can be won as if we die daily. 00:18:51.38\00:18:52.92 Let me give you good news, 00:18:52.93\00:18:54.10 can you live a sinless life, 00:18:54.11\00:18:55.10 look at the beauty of the text and John, 00:18:55.45\00:18:57.50 read this for us, this is the text that talks us, 00:18:57.51\00:18:59.50 that gives us the secret to living that daily, 00:18:59.89\00:19:02.97 victorious, sinless life in Christ Jesus, 00:19:02.98\00:19:06.59 Romans 8 and verse 1 and 2. 00:19:06.92\00:19:09.05 Therefore, there is therefore, 00:19:10.20\00:19:13.29 Now no condemnation to those who are 00:19:13.30\00:19:15.23 in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according 00:19:15.24\00:19:17.91 to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 00:19:17.92\00:19:20.47 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus 00:19:21.13\00:19:24.18 has made me free from the law of sin and death. 00:19:24.19\00:19:27.20 Okay, look at the beauty here, 00:19:27.21\00:19:28.64 no condemnation, free, no condemnation, 00:19:28.65\00:19:32.66 free, those are the two aspects that you have 00:19:32.98\00:19:35.24 to focus on, no condemnation, 00:19:35.25\00:19:37.22 therefore are you abiding in sin? 00:19:37.23\00:19:39.74 Because if you're abiding in sin 00:19:39.75\00:19:40.89 there is condemnation. If you're abiding in sin 00:19:40.90\00:19:43.64 there is not freedom but bondage, 00:19:43.65\00:19:45.80 that's right. No condemnation, 00:19:46.40\00:19:47.45 freedom why? Because the law of the 00:19:47.46\00:19:50.12 spirit of life, the spirit of God in our lives 00:19:50.13\00:19:52.83 is able to accomplish through us 00:19:53.18\00:19:54.83 what we cannot in this mortal flesh. 00:19:54.84\00:19:56.43 Last part, save from the penalty, 00:19:56.44\00:19:59.23 daily saved from the power, 00:19:59.67\00:20:01.20 but you have to keep trusting in the power 00:20:01.52\00:20:03.25 of God's Holy Spirit until we are one day 00:20:03.26\00:20:05.18 saved from the presence of sin. 00:20:05.19\00:20:06.85 And it says, I can do all things through Christ 00:20:07.56\00:20:09.67 who strengthens me. We can't do it ourselves, 00:20:09.68\00:20:11.85 cannot, because the old man would come up again. 00:20:12.38\00:20:14.42 But, if we do it in the Christ Jesus 00:20:15.00\00:20:16.81 yes we can live a victorious Christian 00:20:16.82\00:20:19.03 life day by day. And I think 00:20:19.04\00:20:20.94 that's what all of us want. 00:20:20.95\00:20:22.02 Everyone of us wants that, 00:20:22.03\00:20:23.25 yes, but don't let that old man back 00:20:23.26\00:20:24.66 in the house, because he will become 00:20:24.67\00:20:26.88 full strength, the moment that we decide 00:20:26.89\00:20:30.16 to resist the spirit of God 00:20:30.17\00:20:31.74 and practice the old life. Now we have about 00:20:32.22\00:20:34.78 just before we get into our topic 00:20:35.29\00:20:36.50 about 7 more minutes or so, 00:20:36.51\00:20:37.60 do you have another question for us, 00:20:37.61\00:20:38.66 what you wanna do? 00:20:38.67\00:20:39.64 Yeah, I do, and it's says not too long 00:20:39.65\00:20:40.96 of a question. Okay. It says, 00:20:40.97\00:20:43.00 I don't know who sent, doesn't give 00:20:43.38\00:20:44.94 their name, but it says, my question is, 00:20:44.95\00:20:46.91 if God is all knowing, does he know 00:20:46.92\00:20:49.72 who will be saved and who will not be? 00:20:50.30\00:20:52.00 And how do you explain that people 00:20:53.04\00:20:54.53 will choose God while he knows that 00:20:54.54\00:20:56.43 they will not be saved. 00:20:56.44\00:20:57.41 How can people change, to me it seems 00:20:58.51\00:21:02.01 as if they have no choice over the whole thing. 00:21:02.02\00:21:03.99 And so he's talking about predestination here 00:21:04.40\00:21:06.35 and I think there is a difference of opinion 00:21:06.36\00:21:09.41 on this subject of predestination 00:21:09.42\00:21:10.84 and I believe the Bible does not predetermine 00:21:11.36\00:21:14.17 anyone to be lost. In fact, we read in Titus 2:11, 00:21:14.18\00:21:18.84 okay, let's look at Titus 2:11, 00:21:18.85\00:21:21.74 it's a short verse but I think a very 00:21:22.06\00:21:23.63 profound verse, one that we need to know, 00:21:23.64\00:21:26.49 God's plan for everyone who has ever lived. 00:21:26.50\00:21:28.72 And just how far the reaching the grace 00:21:29.22\00:21:31.67 of God really is, beautiful text. 00:21:31.68\00:21:33.52 It says, For the grace of God that brings 00:21:33.53\00:21:35.94 salvation has appeared to all men, 00:21:35.95\00:21:40.08 that's everyone. Everyone has an opportunity 00:21:40.42\00:21:43.28 to be saved by the grace of God. 00:21:43.29\00:21:44.71 So, now without foundation being laid 00:21:45.12\00:21:47.35 we can say that obviously that means 00:21:47.36\00:21:50.09 no one is predetermined or predestined 00:21:50.10\00:21:52.17 to be lost. But yet, aside this whole idea 00:21:52.18\00:21:56.63 of predestination, predetermination, 00:21:56.64\00:21:58.52 God is omnipotent he is all knowing, 00:21:59.37\00:22:01.77 that's right. And so while he knows the end 00:22:01.78\00:22:04.41 from beginning, yet he still doesn't 00:22:04.42\00:22:06.74 predetermine or predestine 00:22:06.75\00:22:08.16 anyone to be lost, or anyone to be saved, 00:22:08.17\00:22:11.58 it goes the same for that too. 00:22:11.97\00:22:13.33 And so the issue more or less with God's all 00:22:14.04\00:22:17.00 knowing is that although he does I believe 00:22:17.01\00:22:19.83 John it even tells us a little bit more 00:22:19.84\00:22:21.27 about the character of God. 00:22:21.28\00:22:22.32 That he will love us in spite of who we are. 00:22:22.33\00:22:26.12 Yeah, and omniscient is all knowing, 00:22:26.13\00:22:27.65 yeah, omniscient is all knowing, 00:22:27.66\00:22:28.95 yeah, omnipotent is all reigning. 00:22:29.23\00:22:30.68 But anyway, the fact is though that 00:22:31.15\00:22:33.31 is as far as his grace toward us, 00:22:33.32\00:22:36.35 his love toward us, right. He loves us no matter 00:22:36.36\00:22:39.33 who we are or what we do? 00:22:39.56\00:22:40.74 But, he loves us enough to not leave us there, 00:22:41.13\00:22:42.84 and that's his goal, he wants to accept us 00:22:42.85\00:22:45.23 to accept the salvation that God through 00:22:45.24\00:22:47.25 Christ Jesus has given us. 00:22:47.26\00:22:48.49 But even if we don't accept it, 00:22:49.37\00:22:50.85 he still loves us enough to continue 00:22:50.86\00:22:52.23 to work on us. Even if he knows in the end 00:22:52.24\00:22:55.20 we would not be saved, right? 00:22:55.49\00:22:58.10 So, even knowing that he still pursues 00:22:58.57\00:23:02.12 and gives us every opportunity to receive 00:23:02.13\00:23:04.27 Christ into our life and to workout that salvation, 00:23:04.28\00:23:07.67 which is what is predetermined for us, 00:23:07.68\00:23:09.67 that's what the text I want to go to. 00:23:09.68\00:23:11.10 But, before you go to that next text, 00:23:11.51\00:23:13.97 I think you need to go to verse 12 of Titus 2 00:23:13.98\00:23:16.58 because when you said the grace of God, 00:23:17.11\00:23:18.34 there is part of your walk with God 00:23:18.71\00:23:20.63 that so many of us when we think about 00:23:20.64\00:23:23.63 our walk with God this is the part that 00:23:23.64\00:23:25.41 so many of us don't really place a lot of 00:23:25.42\00:23:27.16 emphasis on, because it requires 00:23:27.17\00:23:29.17 something of us. Look at verse 12, 00:23:29.18\00:23:31.24 because remember Matthew 28, 00:23:31.25\00:23:33.27 go therefore and teach baptizing, 00:23:34.08\00:23:36.58 and then teaching them to observe all things 00:23:36.59\00:23:38.95 that I've commanded you, 00:23:38.96\00:23:39.93 but the word teaching also applies here. 00:23:39.94\00:23:41.91 Read verse 12, John, for us, this is amazing. 00:23:42.09\00:23:43.99 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness 00:23:44.41\00:23:46.26 and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, 00:23:46.27\00:23:49.18 righteously and godly in this present age. 00:23:49.19\00:23:52.30 Okay, notice, teaching us that denying ungodliness. 00:23:52.31\00:23:56.38 So, to be a disciple of Christ 00:23:56.39\00:23:57.92 you've got to deny yourself, 00:23:57.93\00:23:59.25 there are a lot of people that yes, 00:23:59.94\00:24:01.80 they want the grace of God, 00:24:01.81\00:24:02.98 but they don't want to deny themselves. 00:24:03.32\00:24:04.72 They want to know that, 00:24:04.73\00:24:05.70 yes God loves them no matter what they do, 00:24:05.87\00:24:07.43 which is true, but God is not going 00:24:07.44\00:24:09.47 to condone everything you do and just say, 00:24:09.48\00:24:11.39 well I love you, so I'm just closing my eyes to it. 00:24:11.40\00:24:13.86 No, the Bible says, he will not overlook 00:24:13.87\00:24:15.67 nor he well, nor will he declare innocent 00:24:16.19\00:24:19.59 the one who is guilty. 00:24:19.60\00:24:20.64 He will not overlook, nor will he condone our sin, 00:24:21.12\00:24:23.67 right, but he will teach us by the Spirit's 00:24:23.68\00:24:25.93 residence that you need to deny yourself. 00:24:25.94\00:24:28.18 And so, that could be done. 00:24:28.75\00:24:29.79 We don't want to be sinning Christians, 00:24:30.25\00:24:31.84 leaning on the grace of God as Paul says, 00:24:32.19\00:24:33.94 do we continue and sin that grace may abound? 00:24:33.95\00:24:35.81 Certainly not. Romans 6:1. 00:24:36.18\00:24:37.87 Right, and that's the sanctification process 00:24:38.22\00:24:40.84 of that salvation experience, 00:24:40.85\00:24:42.50 there you go, the growing in Christ 00:24:42.51\00:24:43.50 that we do. It is never our fault for being lost, 00:24:43.51\00:24:47.43 for God's fault for being lost, okay. 00:24:47.44\00:24:49.72 It's always our fault for being lost 00:24:49.73\00:24:52.05 if in fact that is what happens. 00:24:52.06\00:24:54.04 But, listen to this, Romans verse chapter 8, 00:24:54.05\00:24:56.97 Romans chapter 8 verses 29 and 30, 00:24:58.43\00:25:00.47 the book of the day. 00:25:01.11\00:25:02.08 Gives us also some very good council, okay. 00:25:02.09\00:25:03.97 It says, For whom He foreknew, 00:25:06.24\00:25:08.06 He also predestined to be what? 00:25:08.07\00:25:10.14 Conformed, conformed to the image of His Son, 00:25:10.15\00:25:13.09 that He might be the first born among 00:25:13.82\00:25:15.74 many brethren. In other words if anything 00:25:15.75\00:25:17.80 he predestined us to be like Jesus, 00:25:17.81\00:25:20.23 everyone and that's what the grace of God 00:25:20.93\00:25:24.17 comes and merges in with our response 00:25:24.18\00:25:27.09 to that grace. And begins to work us, 00:25:27.10\00:25:29.63 work in us the character building process, 00:25:30.03\00:25:33.80 to make us more like Jesus Christ. 00:25:33.81\00:25:35.81 So that's what he wants for our life, 00:25:36.19\00:25:37.68 he gives us that grace, not just to eliminate 00:25:37.69\00:25:41.03 the penalty for the sin that we have committed, 00:25:41.04\00:25:43.87 but also to be able to eliminate the day by day 00:25:43.88\00:25:47.45 failure that we have living in these 00:25:48.63\00:25:50.98 mortal bodies to sin, the law of sin in our lives. 00:25:50.99\00:25:53.43 And so we are predestined to be 00:25:53.75\00:25:55.22 conformed or change into the image of Jesus, 00:25:55.23\00:25:57.54 and it says in verse 30, 00:25:58.33\00:25:59.63 Moreover whom He predestined for that 00:25:59.64\00:26:01.76 purpose to conformed, be conformed to the 00:26:01.77\00:26:04.28 image of Christ, He also called; 00:26:04.29\00:26:06.78 whom He called, these He also justified; 00:26:06.79\00:26:09.55 and in whom He justified these, 00:26:09.56\00:26:11.10 He also glorified. In the end we will live 00:26:11.11\00:26:13.17 and reign with Christ forever. 00:26:13.18\00:26:14.71 And so, that's the process of it. 00:26:15.34\00:26:17.09 John, we have touched on some things 00:26:18.11\00:26:20.54 here today that are very powerful 00:26:20.55\00:26:21.86 in the scope of the new life. 00:26:21.87\00:26:23.57 You notice, the theme has been staying 00:26:23.58\00:26:25.08 quite a bit on the new life, 00:26:25.09\00:26:26.18 walking in Christ and having the power. 00:26:26.19\00:26:27.71 What the Lord predestined you sir and ma'am 00:26:28.17\00:26:31.52 to be is in John chapter 1 verse 12 and verse 13. 00:26:31.53\00:26:37.66 This is what he predestined us to be, 00:26:38.28\00:26:40.47 right, in other words this is what he has made 00:26:40.48\00:26:42.32 provision for us to become. 00:26:42.33\00:26:43.60 But, there is a part that you have to partake of. 00:26:44.02\00:26:47.94 But as many as received Him, 00:26:48.94\00:26:51.14 the Bible says in verse 12 of John chapter 1, 00:26:51.15\00:26:53.97 to them He gave the right or the power 00:26:54.85\00:26:56.88 to become children of God, 00:26:57.46\00:26:59.23 to those who believe in His name: 00:26:59.24\00:27:00.50 who are born, not of blood, 00:27:01.08\00:27:03.00 nor of the will of the flesh, 00:27:03.57\00:27:05.36 nor of the will of man, but of God. 00:27:05.37\00:27:07.55 So, he was made it possible for everyone of us 00:27:08.05\00:27:10.63 to be sons and daughters of God. 00:27:10.99\00:27:14.29 So, that preparation has been made long before 00:27:14.91\00:27:17.13 you even accepted it, but when you receive him, 00:27:17.14\00:27:19.52 that's where the beauty of the word 00:27:20.08\00:27:21.79 predestination comes in. 00:27:21.80\00:27:23.11 He has set this a long time ago in place 00:27:23.62\00:27:26.31 and now you've accepted it 00:27:26.64\00:27:27.76 and you are His son, you are His daughter, 00:27:27.77\00:27:29.47 you are His child. Wow! A lot of questions, 00:27:29.54\00:27:33.57 we have a ton more, but keep sending questions 00:27:33.58\00:27:35.75 if you have of them to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:27:35.76\00:27:39.97 that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:27:39.98\00:27:42.11 And some of you have expressed having us 00:27:42.55\00:27:45.30 respond by email. So we have not read 00:27:45.31\00:27:48.05 your question on the air. 00:27:48.21\00:27:49.18 And, so if you haven't heard your question 00:27:49.48\00:27:51.62 and you listed response by email, 00:27:51.63\00:27:53.52 that's what we will try and make a great 00:27:53.93\00:27:56.01 attempt to do, yes. Now we have a this subject 00:27:56.02\00:27:59.18 today John is about the Christ. 00:27:59.19\00:28:00.59 Well, we've been talking about Jesus, 00:28:01.05\00:28:02.48 that's right. What Jesus is to us, 00:28:02.49\00:28:04.71 not only our salvation but our daily walk 00:28:04.72\00:28:06.59 and growth up into the spirit 00:28:07.07\00:28:09.52 or the image of Christ, 00:28:09.53\00:28:10.89 but now let's find out who Christ is? 00:28:11.35\00:28:13.10 You know John, the world has recognized over 00:28:13.43\00:28:15.56 and over that Jesus lived, 00:28:15.57\00:28:16.67 I mean the fact of the matter is no matter 00:28:16.68\00:28:19.26 what country you are living in right now, 00:28:19.27\00:28:20.90 you go by the calendar. It could be civil, 00:28:21.18\00:28:23.77 it could be religious, it doesn't really matter. 00:28:23.95\00:28:26.16 The fact of the matter is you all agree that 00:28:26.65\00:28:28.71 we are in the year 2006, 00:28:28.72\00:28:31.02 the year of our Lord Anno Domini, 00:28:31.03\00:28:33.02 which is the word meaning, Latin word, 00:28:33.03\00:28:35.78 the year of our Lord, Anno annual, annual. 00:28:35.79\00:28:38.68 We find that clearly everything is focused 00:28:39.09\00:28:42.32 around the existence of Christ. 00:28:42.33\00:28:44.51 I mean the fact is he existed. 00:28:44.52\00:28:46.67 But, is He God? Was He just a good man? 00:28:47.04\00:28:50.37 Was He a prophet? Was he the son of God? 00:28:50.90\00:28:53.30 Was He mighty or almighty? 00:28:54.03\00:28:55.91 What does the Bible say about the fact that 00:28:56.47\00:28:59.02 he did exist, it's a record that Jesus existed, 00:28:59.03\00:29:04.02 but I think one of the strongest points 00:29:04.03\00:29:05.98 of proving his divinity and proving that 00:29:05.99\00:29:09.28 he didn't show up by accident 00:29:09.29\00:29:11.33 or wasn't some good teacher that tried 00:29:11.65\00:29:13.91 to exert some divine authority, 00:29:13.92\00:29:15.33 was to show that through prophecy, 00:29:16.09\00:29:17.56 the Bible talked about what was going to happen 00:29:18.04\00:29:20.15 to lead up to his coming 00:29:20.16\00:29:21.18 and how are those things were fulfilled 00:29:21.63\00:29:23.22 and are yet being fulfilled. 00:29:23.55\00:29:24.67 You know, and that's the way the Lord does 00:29:24.68\00:29:26.93 things anyway, because these prophecies show us 00:29:26.94\00:29:30.90 and point to the fact that Jesus was to come 00:29:30.91\00:29:33.62 the first time he appeared. 00:29:34.04\00:29:35.39 And prophecy is given again to the church 00:29:35.84\00:29:38.49 through the books of Daniel, Revelation, 00:29:38.50\00:29:40.28 and minor prophets, to show that when he comes 00:29:40.78\00:29:43.23 a second time that he's coming right 00:29:43.24\00:29:45.34 on time as well. And so we see the prophecy 00:29:45.35\00:29:48.44 is that very thing that helps us to identify 00:29:48.45\00:29:51.57 that Jesus is who He is, who He says He is, 00:29:51.98\00:29:54.57 fully divine, the son of God. 00:29:54.58\00:29:56.21 Who saves us, who has come 00:29:56.82\00:29:58.27 and is the savior of the world to save us 00:29:58.28\00:29:59.61 from our sins. And so... 00:29:59.62\00:30:00.61 let's go and lets take a journey here through 00:30:01.70\00:30:04.37 the prophecies identifying Christ's first advent, 00:30:04.77\00:30:08.44 there you go. 00:30:08.85\00:30:09.82 And that's what we're gonna spend time on, 00:30:09.83\00:30:11.11 prophecies identifying his first advent, 00:30:11.26\00:30:13.37 his first coming. And I know that 00:30:13.93\00:30:15.88 we are gonna start in Genesis, 00:30:15.89\00:30:17.24 way back at the beginning. 00:30:17.25\00:30:18.34 It talks about him from the very start doesn't it? 00:30:18.64\00:30:20.72 That sure does. And a lot of people 00:30:20.79\00:30:22.53 don't identify this text as a promise, but it is. 00:30:22.54\00:30:26.68 It's the promise of a coming Messiah. 00:30:27.46\00:30:29.69 And so turn with us to Genesis chapter 3, 00:30:30.24\00:30:32.58 Genesis chapter 3. That's way back there. 00:30:34.02\00:30:36.52 Yeah, the beginning. That's right, 00:30:37.44\00:30:38.41 that's a long time ago, before computers. 00:30:38.42\00:30:42.56 Genesis chapter 1 and 2, 00:30:43.41\00:30:44.78 prior to the entrance of sin, 00:30:45.77\00:30:46.86 Genesis 3, the fall of man. 00:30:46.87\00:30:48.75 And right after the fall of man, 00:30:49.62\00:30:51.02 we see this wonderful promise introduced to us, 00:30:51.03\00:30:54.68 verse 15, in fact let's start off with 14. 00:30:54.69\00:30:58.96 So the Lord God said to the serpent: 00:31:00.09\00:31:01.67 "Because you have done this, 00:31:01.68\00:31:03.50 you are cursed more than all cattle, 00:31:04.72\00:31:06.72 And more than every beast of the field; 00:31:07.45\00:31:08.81 On your belly you shall go, 00:31:08.82\00:31:10.43 and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 00:31:10.89\00:31:13.97 And I will put enmity between 00:31:15.13\00:31:17.32 you and the woman, 00:31:17.49\00:31:19.39 and between your seed and her seed; 00:31:20.22\00:31:22.37 He shall bruise your head, 00:31:23.02\00:31:24.43 and you shall bruise His heel." 00:31:24.44\00:31:27.12 Now go back to the sentence John, 00:31:27.32\00:31:28.60 I want, you say that word ever so lightly 00:31:28.61\00:31:31.03 and between your seed and her seed 00:31:31.58\00:31:33.77 and the next the word is what? 00:31:33.78\00:31:35.14 He, He, okay that He is the prophecy, 00:31:35.32\00:31:40.39 that's right. Read the last part 00:31:40.50\00:31:41.62 of the verse again. He shall bruise your head, 00:31:41.63\00:31:43.45 And you shall bruise His heel, 00:31:43.90\00:31:46.14 referring to Jesus Christ, that's right, that's right. 00:31:46.64\00:31:49.09 So, when Jesus was prophesied here coming, 00:31:49.35\00:31:52.38 we talk about his as the plan of salvation. 00:31:53.32\00:31:55.86 It's like the fire alarm is working, 00:31:56.33\00:31:59.62 it's functioning. And just so that 00:31:59.93\00:32:03.11 you don't think that by lighting a match 00:32:03.38\00:32:05.08 you're gonna burn the building down. 00:32:05.09\00:32:06.45 I want you to look around you, 00:32:06.55\00:32:07.80 there are fire alarms, sprinkler systems , 00:32:08.08\00:32:10.55 this room is fire proof, 00:32:10.99\00:32:12.38 you don't have the last say. 00:32:12.76\00:32:13.73 So when Satan by his temptation, 00:32:13.80\00:32:16.27 when Adam and Eve yielded. 00:32:16.28\00:32:17.79 Eve deceived, Adam yield to sin. 00:32:18.64\00:32:20.39 God has a plan in place. 00:32:20.75\00:32:21.91 And he says, Satan, right now it may 00:32:22.04\00:32:23.79 look like you have the upper hand, 00:32:23.80\00:32:25.34 but when I come, the only thing 00:32:25.97\00:32:28.31 you're going to do to me is bruise my heel, 00:32:28.32\00:32:30.41 but what I'm going to do to you is bruise 00:32:30.95\00:32:33.21 your head and where do to step 00:32:33.22\00:32:35.02 when you wanna kill somebody? 00:32:35.34\00:32:36.44 Well mortal wounds are usually 00:32:37.38\00:32:38.35 suffered in your head. 00:32:38.36\00:32:39.33 Now was this fulfilled is the question. 00:32:40.81\00:32:43.30 Well yes, it is being fulfilled, 00:32:44.08\00:32:45.76 okay. So, let's to Galatians, 00:32:46.30\00:32:49.55 Galatians chapter 4, you're gonna see 00:32:49.56\00:32:51.99 that we will go from Old Testament 00:32:52.00\00:32:54.19 to the New Testament. Prophecy fulfillment 00:32:54.20\00:32:56.93 throughout our study here today. 00:32:56.94\00:32:59.00 Galatians chapter 4, John, you have that? 00:32:59.86\00:33:01.34 You wanna read that? 00:33:01.35\00:33:02.32 Sure, it says, but when the fullness 00:33:02.33\00:33:03.73 of time had come, God sent forth His Son, 00:33:03.74\00:33:07.22 born of a woman, born under the law. 00:33:07.98\00:33:12.09 So, this prophecy was made at least 00:33:12.55\00:33:15.89 and it's reckoned about 4000 years 00:33:16.06\00:33:18.10 before it occurred. And so, 00:33:18.11\00:33:19.99 when you look at that, I could imagine John, 00:33:20.53\00:33:22.74 many of the prophets and patriarchs 00:33:23.00\00:33:24.96 and even the women of the day. 00:33:24.97\00:33:26.39 Who heard this carried down from 00:33:26.90\00:33:29.29 generation to generation that one day 00:33:29.30\00:33:31.19 the promised seed is going to come. 00:33:31.20\00:33:33.04 Can you imagine how women felt 00:33:33.26\00:33:34.31 when they got pregnant. 00:33:34.32\00:33:35.29 Is it possible that I could have, 00:33:36.24\00:33:37.78 be having the son of God, right. But, 00:33:37.79\00:33:40.20 what made the difference, 00:33:41.50\00:33:42.47 look at the next one, Galatians 3:19. 00:33:42.48\00:33:45.58 Yes, Galatians 3:19, For I through the law 00:33:46.01\00:33:48.41 died to the law that I might live to God. 00:33:48.42\00:33:50.80 That was 2, excuse me, okay, 19, 00:33:51.76\00:33:53.73 here we go the purpose what purpose 00:33:53.74\00:33:55.61 then does the law serve? 00:33:56.20\00:33:57.92 It was added because of transgressions, 00:33:58.34\00:34:00.52 till the Seed should come to whom 00:34:01.03\00:34:03.46 the promise was made; and it was appointed 00:34:03.47\00:34:05.73 through angels by the hand of a mediator. 00:34:05.74\00:34:09.63 So, there was a seed promised, 00:34:09.67\00:34:11.82 there was a promised seed 00:34:12.36\00:34:14.10 and that's where Genesis 3 and verse 15 comes in. 00:34:14.38\00:34:16.53 This seed is going, there is going to be enmity 00:34:16.85\00:34:20.30 between serpent and Christ. 00:34:20.31\00:34:23.47 And the woman is granted, 00:34:24.38\00:34:25.64 the woma is the church, 00:34:25.65\00:34:26.62 the woman is granted this enmity. 00:34:26.87\00:34:28.60 Which simply means that if we boil it down. 00:34:29.10\00:34:30.59 When a person becomes a Christian, 00:34:31.50\00:34:32.91 the reason why there is so much discomfort 00:34:33.27\00:34:34.67 after we have become a Christian is because 00:34:35.04\00:34:36.86 right and wrong are so starkly contrasted, 00:34:37.18\00:34:40.50 you know as we would say black and white 00:34:40.75\00:34:42.48 or the phrase maybe. And this discomfort 00:34:42.76\00:34:45.67 to do wrong has been given to us as a gift, 00:34:45.68\00:34:48.83 so that we would not just plunge head long 00:34:48.99\00:34:51.48 into transgression, 00:34:51.49\00:34:52.46 without there being a governor, 00:34:52.75\00:34:54.51 if I could use a phrase or something to harness 00:34:54.88\00:34:57.23 our desire to fall into sin. 00:34:57.54\00:34:58.84 But how is that possible? 00:34:59.24\00:35:00.53 The seed was promised to come 00:35:00.96\00:35:03.16 and that seed is Christ. And John, 00:35:03.17\00:35:04.82 if you look at the next reference, 00:35:04.83\00:35:06.15 this really bring it home there. 00:35:06.27\00:35:07.73 Yeah, this is found in Romans, 00:35:07.88\00:35:09.39 chapter 1, verses 3 and 4, 00:35:09.40\00:35:11.04 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, 00:35:11.85\00:35:14.51 who was born of the seed of David 00:35:14.52\00:35:16.48 according to the flesh, and declared 00:35:16.90\00:35:19.01 to be the Son of God with power according 00:35:19.02\00:35:21.19 to the Spirit of holiness, 00:35:21.20\00:35:22.75 by the resurrection from the dead. 00:35:23.33\00:35:24.83 Isn't that wonderful? So, look at Second Timothy 00:35:24.86\00:35:27.42 2 in verse 8 again before we cap off this section. 00:35:27.43\00:35:29.87 Okay, you're gonna force me to rapidly turn. 00:35:31.11\00:35:33.53 Well actually, you have it there. 00:35:34.63\00:35:36.29 I do have, I do have, 00:35:36.30\00:35:37.27 I've been going through yes, 00:35:38.23\00:35:39.60 okay here we go. Remember that Jesus Christ, 00:35:39.61\00:35:41.70 of the seed of David, was raised from 00:35:41.71\00:35:44.58 the dead according to my gospel. 00:35:44.59\00:35:46.50 Okay, so when the gospel was there preached 00:35:46.57\00:35:48.89 and Timothy is talking about this 00:35:48.90\00:35:50.17 and Paul is writing a letter to Timothy, 00:35:50.18\00:35:52.70 he is saying, notice the seed, 00:35:53.09\00:35:55.19 the seed, the seed, the key there is the seed 00:35:55.20\00:35:57.91 Jesus Christ did come and you know what's 00:35:57.92\00:36:01.77 amazing about this John, 00:36:01.78\00:36:02.83 we are gonna go to the section next, 00:36:02.84\00:36:04.17 because Jesus identifies with so many of us, 00:36:04.44\00:36:07.47 none of us needs to ever be discouraged that Jesus 00:36:07.99\00:36:11.15 does not identify with us. 00:36:11.16\00:36:12.45 He has such a lineage and when walk through 00:36:12.98\00:36:15.47 the lineage of Jesus now, 00:36:15.48\00:36:16.81 it's gonna give us identities of individuals 00:36:17.16\00:36:18.93 that had weaknesses in their lives, 00:36:18.94\00:36:20.86 yet Jesus was tempted in all points like we are, 00:36:21.28\00:36:23.65 yet he didn't sin. Isn't that wonderful? 00:36:24.02\00:36:26.16 This divine created, this divine creator dwelt 00:36:26.53\00:36:33.25 in human flesh but he identified 00:36:33.26\00:36:36.18 with human descendants all throughout 00:36:36.19\00:36:39.89 time of names which we know, 00:36:39.90\00:36:42.02 yet he didn't sin. 00:36:42.42\00:36:43.39 Let's begin to look at that lineage, 00:36:43.43\00:36:44.95 I'll read it here, 00:36:45.25\00:36:46.57 first of all Genesis 12 and verse 3. 00:36:47.26\00:36:49.04 The Bible talks about Jesus as being through 00:36:49.64\00:36:51.35 the lineage of Abraham, here is the promise. 00:36:51.36\00:36:54.64 Genesis 12 verse 3, 00:36:56.43\00:36:57.44 I will bless those who bless you, 00:36:57.48\00:36:59.74 And I will curse him who curse you; 00:37:00.18\00:37:02.70 And in you all the families 00:37:03.04\00:37:05.11 of the earth shall be blessed. 00:37:05.12\00:37:08.44 The Lord made a promise not only to Abraham 00:37:08.78\00:37:12.22 but you will find further that the promise 00:37:12.73\00:37:15.27 was made through the seed of Abraham. 00:37:15.28\00:37:17.59 We'll find out who that seed is in a moment, 00:37:18.24\00:37:19.95 but then look at the Matthew 1 and verse 1, 00:37:20.34\00:37:23.13 the book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, 00:37:23.83\00:37:26.04 the son of David, we mentioned that before 00:37:26.49\00:37:28.18 the son of Abraham, that's right. 00:37:28.84\00:37:30.32 The question is whose son is he? 00:37:30.33\00:37:31.61 The son of God, that's right. 00:37:33.66\00:37:35.16 But identifying through all these human 00:37:35.49\00:37:36.89 instrumentalities, but now he had another 00:37:36.90\00:37:38.85 seed that he was connected to also. 00:37:38.86\00:37:40.36 Yes, in fact if we find in Genesis again, 00:37:41.79\00:37:44.36 chapter 17 verse 19, Then God said: 00:37:44.37\00:37:47.81 "No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, 00:37:47.82\00:37:50.50 and you shall call his name Isaac; 00:37:50.51\00:37:52.48 I will establish My covenant with him 00:37:53.05\00:37:54.65 for an everlasting covenant, 00:37:54.66\00:37:56.58 and with his descendants after him. 00:37:57.16\00:37:59.38 So, the descendants that came after 00:38:00.22\00:38:02.26 Abraham and after Isaac, 00:38:02.27\00:38:03.73 the continued blessing would flow from God. 00:38:04.35\00:38:07.12 And you get this John, now Abraham we know 00:38:07.88\00:38:10.16 is not alive today, that's a fact. 00:38:10.17\00:38:12.58 We know that David is not alive today, 00:38:13.06\00:38:15.68 that's a fact. And by the way 00:38:15.69\00:38:17.30 David is not in heaven 00:38:17.31\00:38:18.38 either and neither is Abraham, 00:38:18.39\00:38:19.94 just wanna make that clear, 00:38:20.20\00:38:21.40 scriptural references will point that out. 00:38:21.48\00:38:23.98 Isaac is not alive today, but we have descendants 00:38:24.71\00:38:28.97 and when we talk about lineage, 00:38:28.98\00:38:30.89 being connected with a line, 00:38:31.27\00:38:33.54 what makes the existence of Christ so valid 00:38:34.23\00:38:37.55 is you can trace his family line. 00:38:38.02\00:38:40.53 That is his earthly family line 00:38:40.79\00:38:42.23 and his heavenly family line. 00:38:42.64\00:38:44.55 Let's look at the earthly family line by looking 00:38:44.91\00:38:47.69 at this seed of Isaac, in Luke chapter 3 00:38:47.70\00:38:50.93 verse 23 and 24, you wanna read that for us John? 00:38:50.94\00:38:53.29 Yes, it says, now Jesus Himself began 00:38:54.31\00:38:56.52 His ministry at about thirty years of age, 00:38:56.53\00:38:58.87 being as was supposed the son of Joseph, 00:38:59.61\00:39:01.89 the son of Heli, the son of Jacob, 00:39:02.37\00:39:04.84 the sun of Isaac, the son of Abraham, 00:39:05.49\00:39:07.86 the son of Terah, the son of Nahor. 00:39:07.87\00:39:10.01 Okay, notice, all these people he identifies with, 00:39:10.12\00:39:12.77 that's right. A continued family line, 00:39:12.85\00:39:14.83 so if you said now John, 00:39:15.11\00:39:16.42 how do I know you're a Stanton? 00:39:17.45\00:39:19.12 Well, I could start by taking his word for it, 00:39:20.78\00:39:24.04 or he could start saying well let me take 00:39:24.82\00:39:26.64 you through my family, history, or let's play, 00:39:26.65\00:39:32.31 this category say whatever you call it family. 00:39:33.52\00:39:35.38 The ancestor, the family tree, 00:39:35.39\00:39:37.55 tree okay there we go. Might start work 00:39:37.56\00:39:40.65 and not stick with you this morning, 00:39:41.08\00:39:42.47 at least in regard to that. 00:39:42.94\00:39:44.26 Whatever that was. 00:39:44.67\00:39:45.64 You're supposed to be good. That's a tree. 00:39:45.69\00:39:47.13 Okay, pictionary, whatever they call it. 00:39:47.27\00:39:49.17 He probably doesn't have an family tree, 00:39:50.61\00:39:52.16 we know he does. But, and his family tree 00:39:52.56\00:39:55.79 has more than one branch, that's a beautiful thing. 00:39:55.80\00:39:58.67 But, when you follow the family tree, 00:39:59.13\00:40:00.93 the Stanton's family, that name goes 00:40:00.94\00:40:03.92 farther back and a lot of people say, 00:40:03.93\00:40:05.38 like my wife would say, 00:40:05.39\00:40:06.44 her ancestry goes back to Scotland. 00:40:07.87\00:40:10.64 Well, part of my ancestry goes back to France, 00:40:11.58\00:40:13.93 then a part to the Philippines, 00:40:14.34\00:40:15.74 then a part to American Indians, 00:40:15.96\00:40:17.36 than a part to Africa. 00:40:17.37\00:40:18.55 See so you follow that family line, 00:40:19.26\00:40:20.68 you get together and say, man what a composite, 00:40:20.69\00:40:22.80 what a mixture, Jesus family line. 00:40:23.25\00:40:25.56 Abraham, Isaac, David, Jacob. 00:40:26.25\00:40:30.32 And that's why the Bible says through that seed 00:40:31.12\00:40:33.69 all the nations of the earth will be blessed, right. 00:40:34.06\00:40:37.51 That's what that whole benefit, 00:40:37.52\00:40:38.95 so when you start going through 00:40:38.96\00:40:40.03 the family line and you say, 00:40:40.04\00:40:41.67 he also has not only a family line 00:40:42.14\00:40:44.35 but he's a descendent of someone. 00:40:44.36\00:40:46.37 So let's now begin to unpack his descendents 00:40:46.89\00:40:49.14 and see where he came from. 00:40:49.15\00:40:50.43 I'll read this one and then 00:40:51.88\00:40:52.85 we'll go to the fulfillment of that. 00:40:52.86\00:40:54.18 Jesus is also a descendent of Jacob. 00:40:54.88\00:40:57.44 Now how many sons did Jacob have? 00:40:57.94\00:41:00.33 He had 12 sons, and if we thought 00:41:01.08\00:41:02.05 that the blessing came through his 12 sons, 00:41:04.19\00:41:06.33 then we really didn't need Jesus. 00:41:06.54\00:41:08.43 Look at Numbers 24 and verse 17, 00:41:09.38\00:41:11.75 giving the prophesy of Jesus 00:41:12.11\00:41:14.07 being a descendent of Jacob, 00:41:14.30\00:41:15.79 I see Him, and in the New King James Version 00:41:17.11\00:41:19.63 word Him is capitalize, but not now; 00:41:19.64\00:41:22.77 I behold Him, but not near; 00:41:23.60\00:41:26.04 why because it's a prophesy. 00:41:26.23\00:41:27.74 A Star shall come out of Jacob; 00:41:28.20\00:41:30.61 A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, 00:41:31.23\00:41:34.15 And batter the brow of Moab, 00:41:35.30\00:41:38.16 And destroy all the sons of tumult. 00:41:38.31\00:41:41.26 So, what's happening? 00:41:42.45\00:41:43.42 A star shall come out of a Jacob. 00:41:43.43\00:41:45.38 Now John, if you remember very well, 00:41:45.75\00:41:48.23 the identifying factor here 00:41:49.73\00:41:51.29 is the start coming out of Jacob. 00:41:51.30\00:41:52.94 And Matthew points this out in his lineage 00:41:53.09\00:41:55.23 and the breaking down of the lineage of Christ. 00:41:55.44\00:41:57.66 And what does Matthew 1 and verse 2 say? 00:41:57.99\00:41:59.70 Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, 00:42:00.32\00:42:02.65 and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. 00:42:02.83\00:42:05.15 And when you begin to go all the way back 00:42:05.37\00:42:06.54 in Matthew 1 to the lineage you will see it all, 00:42:06.55\00:42:09.51 get all the way down to Zechariah, 00:42:09.52\00:42:11.45 then right down to Jesus, right. 00:42:12.36\00:42:14.07 That whole entire family line 00:42:14.16\00:42:15.79 but I think it's interesting 00:42:16.23\00:42:17.21 that at the birth of Jesus, what did the wise man 00:42:17.22\00:42:20.99 follow to find a way he was born? 00:42:21.00\00:42:23.50 They followed what they thought was a star, 00:42:23.98\00:42:25.81 the star of Christ pointing them to Christ child. 00:42:27.35\00:42:29.67 Showing that a star was born, 00:42:29.97\00:42:31.70 that's right. The star, 00:42:31.71\00:42:33.19 the bright and morning star, 00:42:33.55\00:42:34.87 which in fact was what that was pointing to. 00:42:35.08\00:42:37.40 But, there is another family line that Jesus has, 00:42:37.41\00:42:40.87 Jesus also would be of the family line of Judah. 00:42:41.47\00:42:45.21 And I was about to say it, 00:42:45.69\00:42:46.69 but I would give it away of the family line 00:42:46.70\00:42:49.58 of Judah and Judah was one of the sons of Jacob. 00:42:49.59\00:42:53.00 You notice how it's going down, 00:42:53.31\00:42:55.06 you know Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, 00:42:55.41\00:42:58.82 Judah notice how silting down. 00:42:58.99\00:43:01.10 We getting from the larger picture narrowing, 00:43:01.96\00:43:03.72 down and what are the chances let's think 00:43:03.73\00:43:06.65 about it this way John, what are the chances, 00:43:06.66\00:43:08.92 if I were to put all the information that's true 00:43:09.87\00:43:12.71 about Jesus into a mega computer. 00:43:12.72\00:43:15.50 And put the names of every person 00:43:17.52\00:43:19.46 that has ever lived, every male child 00:43:19.47\00:43:21.86 ever lived on this planet. All the names, 00:43:21.87\00:43:26.01 all the prophecies, all the statistics. 00:43:27.24\00:43:29.91 What's the chance of all that information 00:43:32.09\00:43:33.92 narrowing down and pointing to just one person, 00:43:34.34\00:43:36.60 coincidentally. Oh that's infinity, 00:43:37.34\00:43:40.39 I'm it's out there. 00:43:40.40\00:43:41.56 Billions, I mean we're talking 00:43:42.00\00:43:43.10 about hundreds of billions to one. 00:43:43.11\00:43:44.44 If you put okay, he was from 00:43:44.94\00:43:47.76 the descended of the Abraham, 00:43:47.77\00:43:49.05 descended of Isaac, descended of David, 00:43:49.41\00:43:51.28 descended of Jacob, descended of Judah. 00:43:51.63\00:43:55.71 He was supposed to be born in this location, 00:43:56.39\00:43:58.05 that location. He was supposed to, 00:43:58.27\00:43:59.77 and when we begin to put all this together 00:43:59.96\00:44:01.18 and by the friends we are not gonna possibly 00:44:01.19\00:44:02.78 crack all the code this program. 00:44:02.79\00:44:04.53 But, when you begin to look it all 00:44:05.41\00:44:06.38 the possibilities and all the, 00:44:06.39\00:44:08.28 as one person says, if you have eight numbers 00:44:08.73\00:44:12.14 then you have millions of combinations, 00:44:12.68\00:44:15.17 eight numbers, but if you have billions 00:44:15.90\00:44:18.04 of people for all those prophecies to be narrowed 00:44:18.05\00:44:21.18 down as you put this information into a computer 00:44:21.19\00:44:24.42 and to bring up one person Jesus of Nazareth, 00:44:24.73\00:44:27.88 yeah, the chances are nil. 00:44:27.95\00:44:30.16 That's why I say it's infinite, 00:44:30.31\00:44:31.52 you see beyond the billions of chances. 00:44:32.27\00:44:33.87 It is pointing to Christ because Christ 00:44:33.88\00:44:36.23 is the only one it could be and he is our savior, 00:44:36.61\00:44:39.44 our Lord and savior, the son of God. 00:44:39.45\00:44:41.40 Now here's what I wanna do, 00:44:42.02\00:44:43.18 I want somebody to get this really quickly, 00:44:43.54\00:44:44.78 if I said okay. John Stanton lives 00:44:45.10\00:44:49.29 in Springfield, Illinois. 00:44:49.30\00:44:51.07 They go to the phone book John Stanton, 00:44:52.33\00:44:53.93 lots of Stantons in Springfield, 00:44:54.24\00:44:56.09 Illinois maybe not a ton of them, 00:44:56.10\00:44:57.42 but more than one. Okay, but this 00:44:57.43\00:45:00.21 John Stanton also lived in Thompsonville Illinois, 00:45:00.22\00:45:03.47 okay John Stanton who lived in 00:45:04.05\00:45:05.64 Springfield and Thompsonville, 00:45:05.65\00:45:07.07 okay well that narrows down the numbers 00:45:07.09\00:45:08.44 of Stantons in Springfield, maybe he could find 00:45:08.45\00:45:11.64 you right there. But John Stanton 00:45:11.65\00:45:13.28 who was born in California, 00:45:13.29\00:45:14.74 oh okay well Springfield, Thompsonville, 00:45:15.77\00:45:19.34 California. John Stanton 00:45:19.35\00:45:22.30 who also lived in Saint Louis, 00:45:22.31\00:45:23.62 okay wait, wait, wait. And so to find 00:45:24.48\00:45:26.74 the John Stanton I'm trying to lead 00:45:26.75\00:45:28.32 you to in Springfield, I got to add all these, 00:45:28.33\00:45:30.93 John Stanton who attended collage 00:45:31.33\00:45:32.37 in Southern California and in Northern California. 00:45:32.38\00:45:34.35 John Stanton whose 6'9" barefoot 6'10" with shoes. 00:45:35.14\00:45:38.25 John Stanton whose wife's name is, 00:45:39.73\00:45:41.32 all these statistics friends 00:45:41.89\00:45:43.40 and it narrows down to okay, 00:45:43.88\00:45:45.72 I know who you're talking about. 00:45:45.73\00:45:46.77 If we that in conversation, 00:45:46.95\00:45:48.30 it narrows it down very quickly, right. 00:45:48.31\00:45:50.02 And sometimes when we get a person's name 00:45:50.03\00:45:51.65 we identify them with all those particular factors. 00:45:51.71\00:45:54.01 Well friends, the Bible is overwhelming, 00:45:54.82\00:45:56.64 historians, atheists, agnostics, communists, 00:45:56.96\00:46:03.96 all recognize, they may not worship, 00:46:04.05\00:46:06.35 but they recognize the fact of Jesus. 00:46:06.85\00:46:09.11 And these prophecies, we have to understand 00:46:09.50\00:46:11.34 these prophecies were given thousands 00:46:11.35\00:46:13.04 of years before. I mean, 00:46:13.05\00:46:15.64 so this isn't just something where some 00:46:15.82\00:46:17.80 people wrote a book, 00:46:17.81\00:46:18.78 one person had this argument John, 00:46:19.19\00:46:20.63 I kind of fun to share this. 00:46:20.64\00:46:22.57 He was an atheist and he thought he would really 00:46:23.53\00:46:24.96 had a good argument mand you heard of something 00:46:24.97\00:46:26.36 called circular reasoning? 00:46:26.37\00:46:27.52 Yes, well circular reasoning says 00:46:27.53\00:46:29.79 that you can't use a book to be able 00:46:29.80\00:46:34.29 to give validity to that book. 00:46:34.30\00:46:36.22 In other words, you can't use the thing 00:46:36.23\00:46:37.27 in itself to make it valid. 00:46:37.28\00:46:39.09 And so one person said, 00:46:40.00\00:46:40.97 you can't the Bible to prove Jesus, 00:46:40.98\00:46:44.30 because it's circular reasoning. 00:46:44.85\00:46:46.91 And the theologian that was there studying 00:46:47.93\00:46:50.01 and talking with him, said, wait a minute, 00:46:50.52\00:46:52.12 no, no, no this isn't circular reasoning 00:46:52.95\00:46:54.43 because this is one book. 00:46:54.44\00:46:55.87 This is a harmonious book we call the Bible, 00:46:56.74\00:46:58.80 but it is 66 books, that's right. 00:46:58.99\00:47:01.80 Written by different authors throughout 00:47:01.92\00:47:03.58 thousands of years, 00:47:03.59\00:47:04.66 all with the same themes, 00:47:05.17\00:47:06.69 that's right, pointing to the same savior. 00:47:07.12\00:47:08.89 And you can't just, that doesn't just happen, 00:47:10.24\00:47:13.54 that's right and he was left 00:47:14.02\00:47:16.34 there kind of dumb founded, 00:47:16.35\00:47:17.50 how do you respond to that? 00:47:17.51\00:47:18.93 The answer is you can't, your only response 00:47:19.57\00:47:22.84 is Jesus is the son of God. 00:47:22.85\00:47:25.21 I like that's why they call the Bible a cannon, 00:47:25.85\00:47:28.10 there you go. It blows the arguments away, 00:47:29.15\00:47:32.59 yeah it really does. So, that's a beautiful, 00:47:32.60\00:47:35.21 I'm glad you brought that out, 00:47:35.22\00:47:36.19 because that's a beautiful illustration to see 00:47:36.20\00:47:37.69 that the Bible is not one book that somebody 00:47:37.70\00:47:39.83 sat down and craftily put together 00:47:40.04\00:47:42.15 to make their point. That's right. 00:47:42.68\00:47:44.60 But, these are people who never met each other. 00:47:44.61\00:47:46.73 People who never walked the same roads, 00:47:47.21\00:47:48.88 some cases never spoke the same languages, 00:47:49.19\00:47:51.33 in many cases lived in different time, 00:47:51.81\00:47:53.89 in all cases most of them live the different times 00:47:53.90\00:47:56.72 and the different circumstance 00:47:56.73\00:47:58.23 and different countries, 00:47:58.24\00:47:59.21 different cultures and they come up with 00:47:59.22\00:48:01.19 the same conclusion and I like that way. 00:48:01.20\00:48:03.74 You know matter after go with me to the end 00:48:04.05\00:48:05.42 of book of John before we go to the next one. 00:48:05.43\00:48:07.56 The end of the book of John, 00:48:08.57\00:48:09.62 this is so beautiful the way the Bible writer, 00:48:11.19\00:48:13.16 I think my favorite word today John is beautiful, 00:48:13.38\00:48:15.12 I've been saying that like over and over. 00:48:15.13\00:48:16.56 So, write me an email, it's in your vocabulary, 00:48:16.99\00:48:18.65 your new word, new word. 00:48:18.66\00:48:20.77 But if we read the end of the book of John, 00:48:21.53\00:48:23.55 I'm getting there now, John is already there. 00:48:23.56\00:48:25.93 I will read it, okay verse 24 and 25. 00:48:26.98\00:48:29.15 Read verse 24 and 25. This is the disciple 00:48:29.16\00:48:30.63 who testifies of these things, 00:48:31.26\00:48:33.35 and wrote these things; 00:48:33.71\00:48:34.87 and we know that his testimony is what? True. 00:48:35.18\00:48:38.26 And John 21 and verse 25. 00:48:38.27\00:48:39.67 And there are also many other 00:48:40.62\00:48:42.04 things that Jesus did, 00:48:42.05\00:48:43.54 which if they were written one by one, 00:48:43.94\00:48:46.33 I suppose that even the world itself could 00:48:46.34\00:48:49.85 not contain the books that would be written. Amen. 00:48:49.86\00:48:53.54 Amen, friends, did you get that? 00:48:53.55\00:48:56.05 The world itself and now, 00:48:56.40\00:48:58.57 this is what so fascinating about this whole idea 00:48:58.58\00:49:01.45 is he only had a three-and-half 00:49:01.68\00:49:03.72 year ministry. What if, what if had a ten year 00:49:03.73\00:49:08.53 ministry how big would the big New Testament be. 00:49:08.54\00:49:11.48 What if we still on earth ministering 00:49:12.15\00:49:14.05 in this actual Christly, Christ form as he was 00:49:14.28\00:49:19.61 during the days of his earthly ministry. 00:49:19.62\00:49:21.21 Just three-and-half years and John is saying 00:49:21.78\00:49:24.09 if they wrote down everything that Jesus said, 00:49:24.67\00:49:26.45 the world, no, notice, he didn't say the world 00:49:27.25\00:49:30.07 couldn't chronicle. 00:49:31.11\00:49:32.08 He said the world couldn't contain, 00:49:32.09\00:49:33.79 yeah. We're talking serious, 00:49:34.38\00:49:37.25 serious volumes, in other words 00:49:37.77\00:49:40.59 all the lives that Jesus touched, 00:49:40.60\00:49:42.41 if everybody wrote about it, 00:49:42.99\00:49:44.36 it couldn't contain it. 00:49:45.72\00:49:46.69 Let's continue to go back to the scriptures, 00:49:48.64\00:49:50.27 the cannon, and begin to see 00:49:50.94\00:49:52.24 the beautiful unfolding of this wonderful 00:49:52.25\00:49:54.10 person Jesus. Genesis 49 and verse 10 00:49:54.11\00:49:58.15 indicates that Jesus would be from Judah's 00:49:58.81\00:50:01.11 lines listen to this. The scepter shall not 00:50:01.12\00:50:04.18 depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver 00:50:04.19\00:50:07.20 from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; 00:50:07.21\00:50:10.97 And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. 00:50:11.34\00:50:15.77 Shiloh is an ancient Jewish word 00:50:16.21\00:50:18.73 meaning the Messiah, Shiloh. 00:50:19.13\00:50:21.97 And so in other words, they're saying, 00:50:22.30\00:50:24.78 the power is not going to depart from Judah, 00:50:24.82\00:50:27.89 the lawgiver is not going to, 00:50:28.37\00:50:30.44 his establishment is not going 00:50:31.47\00:50:33.88 to be removed until Shiloh comes. 00:50:33.89\00:50:37.23 In other words the power is going to shift hands 00:50:38.16\00:50:39.87 from the nation to the one who brought 00:50:40.18\00:50:41.92 the nation into existence. 00:50:41.93\00:50:43.28 So, that nation is gonna continue carrying 00:50:43.73\00:50:45.41 on the lineage and message until Shiloh comes, 00:50:45.42\00:50:48.09 the very one who has this message planted 00:50:48.10\00:50:51.96 in the lives of those of Judah. 00:50:51.97\00:50:53.54 When he comes, we're gonna point to him, 00:50:53.84\00:50:56.29 not to his nation anymore but to him directly, 00:50:56.49\00:50:58.46 was that fulfilled? Look at the fulfillment of that. 00:50:59.06\00:51:02.51 Yes it was, Luke 3:33, the son of Amminadab, 00:51:03.02\00:51:08.33 the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, 00:51:08.96\00:51:11.04 the son of Perez, the son of Judah, 00:51:11.05\00:51:13.58 there it is. And people wonder 00:51:13.59\00:51:15.14 why we talk about Luke 3, 00:51:15.15\00:51:16.49 well when you look at chapter 3 00:51:17.12\00:51:18.54 in Luke it goes down the lineage of Jesus, 00:51:18.55\00:51:21.53 linking him to all of these also linking him 00:51:22.16\00:51:24.62 as the son of Judah. 00:51:24.63\00:51:26.84 And so the beauty of that is, 00:51:27.58\00:51:29.01 but I like this next one John and I want 00:51:29.47\00:51:30.93 you to read this one Isaiah 9, 00:51:30.94\00:51:32.78 this is one of the favorite texts that often 00:51:33.00\00:51:34.87 you know around the Christmas 00:51:35.13\00:51:36.10 season people say this one, 00:51:36.11\00:51:37.58 it's in the son it's just a powerful text 00:51:37.59\00:51:39.88 but it has an eternal import to it, 00:51:40.24\00:51:41.87 talking about the fact that Jesus 00:51:42.08\00:51:44.38 would be the heir of David's throne. 00:51:44.92\00:51:48.09 It's found in Isaiah 9 verse 7, 00:51:48.57\00:51:50.45 of the increase of His government and peace 00:51:51.10\00:51:53.58 there will be no end, upon the throne of David 00:51:53.59\00:51:56.59 and over His kingdom, To order it and establish 00:51:56.60\00:51:59.79 it with judgment and justice, 00:51:59.80\00:52:01.61 from that time forward, even forever. 00:52:01.83\00:52:03.89 The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. 00:52:04.20\00:52:07.17 Okay, in other words this is gonna happen 00:52:07.18\00:52:08.69 because the power of the Lord and so when Jesus 00:52:08.70\00:52:11.33 came I like the way that it talks about this, 00:52:11.34\00:52:14.57 it talks about him as being 00:52:15.05\00:52:16.15 the head of a government. Now do you know if any 00:52:16.60\00:52:19.63 government that don't have laws? 00:52:19.64\00:52:21.31 Well neither would you find the law that exists 00:52:21.91\00:52:24.47 today to be obituary but a part of God's government, 00:52:24.48\00:52:28.47 look at the fulfillment of that 00:52:29.02\00:52:30.04 in Luke 1 verse 32 and 33, John. 00:52:30.38\00:52:32.29 He will be great, 00:52:33.92\00:52:34.89 and will be called the Son of the Highest; 00:52:35.21\00:52:37.17 and the Lord God will give Him the throne 00:52:37.68\00:52:39.81 of His father David. And He will reign over 00:52:39.82\00:52:42.00 the house of Jacob forever, 00:52:42.01\00:52:43.43 and of His kingdom there will be no end. 00:52:43.97\00:52:46.54 Okay. Now I'm gonna use the word beautiful 00:52:46.55\00:52:49.49 again because Jacob, because David had some 00:52:49.50\00:52:52.90 problems in his life, but notice Jesus identified 00:52:52.91\00:52:58.22 with the person in spite of his problems, 00:52:58.56\00:53:00.67 overcame by the power of God, 00:53:00.83\00:53:02.74 and Jesus was preserve through his line. 00:53:03.35\00:53:05.39 And the throne, where was David's throne, 00:53:06.13\00:53:08.65 well that throne really wasn't David's, 00:53:09.02\00:53:10.61 anymore than the temple that was build by Solomon 00:53:11.31\00:53:13.39 was Solomon's temple, that's right. 00:53:13.40\00:53:15.15 But, Solomon had such influence that today 00:53:15.16\00:53:17.01 we remember it as Solomon's temple. 00:53:17.02\00:53:18.72 And today we remember it as David's throne, 00:53:19.47\00:53:21.09 but it wasn't Solomon's temple it was God's temple, 00:53:21.10\00:53:23.48 it wasn't David's throne, 00:53:23.49\00:53:24.47 it was God's throne. I notice the lineage there, 00:53:24.48\00:53:27.79 because of that fact his kingdom will have no end, 00:53:28.54\00:53:31.98 David's kingdom and his reign did come to an end, 00:53:32.38\00:53:35.99 but the reign of Jesus Christ 00:53:36.18\00:53:37.44 has absolutely no end. He was anointed 00:53:37.86\00:53:41.52 as the eternal one and David, 00:53:41.53\00:53:43.54 the Psalmist records that 00:53:43.55\00:53:44.86 in Psalms 45 verse 6 and 7. 00:53:45.39\00:53:47.22 Maybe you want to read that for us, John? 00:53:48.58\00:53:49.90 Yeah, Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; 00:53:49.91\00:53:54.06 A scepter of righteousness 00:53:54.34\00:53:55.68 is the scepter of Your kingdom. 00:53:55.69\00:53:57.52 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; 00:53:58.17\00:54:00.20 Therefore God, Your God has anointed 00:54:00.55\00:54:03.27 You with the oil of gladness 00:54:03.28\00:54:05.06 more than Your companions. 00:54:05.43\00:54:06.94 And then Hebrews, the writer of Hebrews 00:54:07.81\00:54:10.36 brings this fulfilling point out strongly 00:54:10.37\00:54:12.92 when he says in Hebrews 1 beginning with verse 8. 00:54:12.93\00:54:15.60 But to the Son, write that down, 00:54:16.44\00:54:18.37 Hebrews 1 beginning with verse 8. 00:54:18.38\00:54:20.19 But to the Son, He says Your throne, 00:54:20.81\00:54:23.55 O God, is forever and ever. 00:54:23.98\00:54:26.10 Now John, before I even go 00:54:26.25\00:54:27.22 any further and the text is some people 00:54:27.23\00:54:28.46 that don't think of Jesus as God. 00:54:28.47\00:54:30.02 And they will have a difficult challenge with that 00:54:31.53\00:54:33.10 and we may get some emails, 00:54:33.11\00:54:34.31 but I want you to notice that we didn't write 00:54:34.69\00:54:36.18 this text and you did write it either, 00:54:36.19\00:54:38.59 that's right. Your throne but 00:54:39.36\00:54:41.50 to the son he says your throne, 00:54:41.51\00:54:43.19 O God, is forever. A scepter of righteousness 00:54:43.35\00:54:47.71 is the scepter of Your kingdom. 00:54:47.72\00:54:49.65 You have loved righteousness 00:54:50.43\00:54:51.82 and hated lawlessness; 00:54:51.83\00:54:53.08 Therefore God, Your God, 00:54:53.09\00:54:55.14 has anointed You With the oil of gladness 00:54:55.15\00:54:57.30 more than Your companions. 00:54:57.31\00:54:58.65 And notice that it says therefore God 00:54:58.78\00:55:00.61 it calls Jesus God right there, 00:55:00.62\00:55:02.10 this right. Therefore God, Your God, 00:55:02.46\00:55:05.21 has anointed You With the oil of gladness 00:55:05.22\00:55:07.17 more than Your companions. 00:55:07.18\00:55:08.35 And verse 10, And You, Lord, 00:55:09.67\00:55:12.04 in the beginning laid the foundation 00:55:12.82\00:55:16.04 of the earth, And the heavens 00:55:16.05\00:55:17.10 are the work of Your hands. 00:55:17.11\00:55:18.51 Lot of people think that Jesus was created, 00:55:18.68\00:55:20.70 yeah. He couldn't be the created one because 00:55:21.49\00:55:24.18 he laid the foundations of the earth. 00:55:24.19\00:55:26.47 And it says in verse 11, They will perish, 00:55:27.08\00:55:29.24 but You remain; 00:55:29.25\00:55:30.22 they will all grow old like a garment; 00:55:30.77\00:55:32.69 Like a cloak, You will fold them up, 00:55:33.08\00:55:35.57 And they will be changed. But You are the same, 00:55:35.89\00:55:39.16 And Your years will not fail, 00:55:39.65\00:55:42.33 yes. How long is Jesus is gonna be around? 00:55:42.34\00:55:44.17 Forever, forever. 00:55:44.64\00:55:46.58 Now before the program ends, 00:55:47.44\00:55:48.63 what I wanna point out is that the Bible 00:55:48.71\00:55:50.15 also made it clear and we are gonna cover 00:55:50.16\00:55:52.15 another program we maybe not force this one, 00:55:52.16\00:55:54.42 but John, when you think about that today 00:55:54.43\00:55:56.24 what encouragement does that give you to know 00:55:56.25\00:55:58.44 that you are a son of one who is eternal. 00:55:58.45\00:56:02.46 Well, it gives me hope, because you see, 00:56:03.75\00:56:06.68 all of us we're mortal, we're mortal beings, 00:56:07.62\00:56:10.03 we're a fallen, sinful people 00:56:10.04\00:56:11.96 and we have no hope if it work 00:56:12.17\00:56:13.95 for someone outside of us, to come to redeem us. 00:56:13.96\00:56:17.25 And knowing that person is eternal it help gives me 00:56:17.78\00:56:20.70 hope that the promise that he's given me 00:56:20.71\00:56:22.74 to give me eternal life that I can take 00:56:22.75\00:56:25.13 a hold of that and I will live forever. 00:56:25.14\00:56:26.64 And that's the promise for everyone of us. 00:56:27.11\00:56:28.50 What happens if a person makes a promise, 00:56:29.29\00:56:30.71 you see now your promise is only good 00:56:31.11\00:56:32.60 as long as you're around. 00:56:32.61\00:56:33.71 How long is Jesus promise good for? 00:56:36.02\00:56:37.56 And that's the standard contract 00:56:37.74\00:56:39.02 we live with today, right. 00:56:39.03\00:56:40.33 The contract is only as long as you can 00:56:40.34\00:56:42.46 fulfill your par of the deal 00:56:42.47\00:56:43.65 and if you're dead it's over, it's over. 00:56:43.66\00:56:45.89 He ever lives, he ever lives to make 00:56:46.40\00:56:49.59 intersection for us friends and so the good news 00:56:49.60\00:56:51.94 is we have a promise today which you hold on to, 00:56:51.95\00:56:55.98 that's right and I hold on to. 00:56:55.99\00:56:57.29 And in our next program we're gonna unfold 00:56:57.65\00:56:59.54 more about he reality of Christ, that's right. 00:56:59.55\00:57:02.53 But, what we wanna encourage you to do friends 00:57:03.10\00:57:05.11 is take your Bible, begin to look at 00:57:05.23\00:57:07.66 some of the Old Testament prophecies and look 00:57:07.67\00:57:09.92 at the New Testament fulfillment, 00:57:09.93\00:57:11.28 you will begin in the first chapters of Matthew, 00:57:11.63\00:57:13.46 first three chapters of Luke, 00:57:13.87\00:57:15.15 first chapter of John, you will discover 00:57:15.51\00:57:16.96 that what was said in the Old Testament 00:57:16.97\00:57:18.50 really has come to pass. 00:57:18.51\00:57:20.16 And so the Lord is gonna one day 00:57:20.46\00:57:21.96 come to you and make a house call, 00:57:22.32\00:57:23.42 we pray that when he does, 00:57:23.43\00:57:25.06 he will find you faithful and studying his word. 00:57:25.07\00:57:27.96 Until we will see you again, 00:57:27.97\00:57:29.20 may you have a wonderful day in our 00:57:29.84\00:57:31.53 Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:57:31.54\00:57:33.78
