Hello, friends, grab your Bible and a friend, and sit back 00:00:01.40\00:00:03.56 as we explore God's word together 00:00:03.59\00:00:05.40 on this edition of "House Calls." 00:00:05.43\00:00:07.94 Welcome again, friends, 00:00:22.38\00:00:23.75 to a special edition of "House Calls." 00:00:23.78\00:00:25.27 We're continuing on the era number one 00:00:25.30\00:00:28.76 or era number one talking about the Bible Sabbath. 00:00:28.79\00:00:33.09 And to my right is my good friend Pastor John Stanton. 00:00:33.12\00:00:35.86 Good to have you here, John. Good to be here again. 00:00:35.89\00:00:38.23 You know, I tell you, this program, 00:00:38.26\00:00:39.88 we have taken the time to specifically focus 00:00:39.91\00:00:42.46 on an issue that has been, to a great degree-- 00:00:42.49\00:00:45.75 I think that's an understatement, 00:00:45.78\00:00:47.34 it has been grossly misrepresented 00:00:47.37\00:00:50.56 in the Christian world. 00:00:50.59\00:00:52.12 This is not so much a concern 00:00:52.15\00:00:53.52 about what's being said in the world. 00:00:53.55\00:00:54.92 If you're not a follower of Christ, 00:00:54.95\00:00:56.64 well, just honoring the Sabbath is not gonna make 00:00:56.67\00:00:59.04 a difference one way or the other. 00:00:59.07\00:01:00.88 You know, there are people that are great vegetarians 00:01:00.91\00:01:04.19 and they are vegans, 00:01:04.22\00:01:05.59 but they don't even accept Jesus at all. 00:01:05.62\00:01:07.51 You know, they just got a good diet. 00:01:07.54\00:01:09.93 So this is not about a message to those who don't know, 00:01:09.96\00:01:13.00 but to those who do know and are being taught arbitrarily 00:01:13.03\00:01:16.96 or being taught intentionally I should say, 00:01:16.99\00:01:19.55 from pulpits all around the world 00:01:19.58\00:01:21.38 that the Sabbath doesn't matter. 00:01:21.41\00:01:22.89 We've talked about and made some indent 00:01:22.92\00:01:25.25 on this topics thus far, John, 00:01:25.28\00:01:27.13 and so we're gonna go ahead 00:01:27.16\00:01:28.53 and transition now into what the Bible says 00:01:28.56\00:01:30.88 in the New Testament establishing the factors 00:01:30.91\00:01:33.91 of the last days and the significance of it 00:01:33.94\00:01:37.07 in the exercise of our worship in these last days. 00:01:37.10\00:01:41.20 Yeah, and I think the best place to start will be the cross 00:01:41.23\00:01:45.64 and Luke portrays very clearly in his transition 00:01:45.67\00:01:48.84 of the preparation day to the Sabbath, 00:01:48.87\00:01:53.11 to the Resurrection Day and then we go 00:01:53.14\00:01:56.84 right from there into the period of the church. 00:01:56.87\00:01:58.86 Very good. And we do that. 00:01:58.89\00:02:00.26 But let's start with prayer as we always do. 00:02:00.29\00:02:01.92 So bow your heads with us 00:02:01.95\00:02:03.32 as we seek the Lord in prayer. That's right. 00:02:03.35\00:02:05.17 Gracious Father in heaven, You are so good to us. 00:02:05.20\00:02:08.09 We don't deserve it. 00:02:08.12\00:02:09.77 But again, we come before You 00:02:09.80\00:02:11.17 because we are in such great need of Your blessing. 00:02:11.20\00:02:14.47 And today, Lord, it's nothing new. 00:02:14.50\00:02:17.22 We're asking for Your Holy Spirit. 00:02:17.25\00:02:18.77 We're asking for Your presence here during this program. 00:02:18.80\00:02:22.15 Reach our heart, touch our heart 00:02:22.18\00:02:23.61 with what You want us to know and teach us-- 00:02:23.64\00:02:27.08 guide us through the helper, 00:02:27.11\00:02:29.18 the Holy Spirit who will come to guide us 00:02:29.21\00:02:31.24 into that truth that we desire for our lives. 00:02:31.27\00:02:34.04 Lord, we give You our lives, we give You our hearts 00:02:34.07\00:02:36.57 and we wanna honor and glorify You in Jesus name. 00:02:36.60\00:02:39.13 Amen. Amen. 00:02:39.16\00:02:41.43 John, I'm so glad you've chosen to catapult into that-- 00:02:41.46\00:02:46.78 Now friends, as we go to Luke 23:54-56 00:02:46.81\00:02:51.40 and Luke 24:1 may be verse 2. 00:02:51.43\00:02:54.86 What are we gonna be looking at is, in fact, a yearly event 00:02:54.89\00:02:59.75 that occurs in every Christian faith, 00:02:59.78\00:03:03.33 the honoring of the resurrection of Christ. 00:03:03.36\00:03:06.20 Now, the big argument today, John, 00:03:06.23\00:03:07.84 I'm smiling now because this is a praise to the Lord text. 00:03:07.87\00:03:10.86 This is a hallelujah, thank you, Jesus, text. 00:03:10.89\00:03:14.50 When Christians get to the place where they say, Easter-- 00:03:14.53\00:03:19.60 Well, we know, I'm not gonna talk about 00:03:19.63\00:03:21.06 the pagan aspects of it, 00:03:21.09\00:03:22.46 that's not the purpose of my statement here. 00:03:22.49\00:03:24.35 When Christians get to the place 00:03:24.38\00:03:25.86 where they honor the resurrection of Christ 00:03:25.89\00:03:29.75 in many faiths, in the Christian world, 00:03:29.78\00:03:33.75 they look to--it's called holy week in the Catholic Church 00:03:33.78\00:03:37.90 and the majority of my family is Catholic. 00:03:37.93\00:03:40.80 They look to holy week and then they come to Ash Wednesday, 00:03:40.83\00:03:46.93 Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. 00:03:46.96\00:03:51.97 Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, 00:03:52.00\00:03:57.96 which in some-- it's also called Palm Sunday. 00:03:57.99\00:04:01.41 Sometimes, Easter Sunday is called Palm Sunday. 00:04:01.44\00:04:04.69 You know, your Palm Sunday, Ash Wednesday, 00:04:04.72\00:04:06.63 Good Friday, Easter Sunday, sorry. 00:04:06.66\00:04:08.46 And so you have clearly these observances 00:04:08.49\00:04:11.68 that mark out the clear explanations 00:04:11.71\00:04:15.85 that these verses, we're going to read, 00:04:15.88\00:04:18.57 have brought to the forefront. 00:04:18.60\00:04:20.44 So we're gonna read this verses and 00:04:20.47\00:04:21.84 we're gonna stop along the way and explain clearly 00:04:21.87\00:04:24.96 where we are in the exercise of Good Friday, 00:04:24.99\00:04:28.43 Easter Sunday, all right? 00:04:28.46\00:04:30.43 It also answers the question, how do we know 00:04:30.46\00:04:33.29 the seventh day is Saturday. Right. 00:04:33.32\00:04:36.29 Still today. Right. 00:04:36.32\00:04:37.87 How do we know that it's Saturday? 00:04:37.90\00:04:40.13 Maybe it's all shifted because you know 00:04:40.16\00:04:41.58 the calendars have changed. Right. 00:04:41.61\00:04:43.24 The calendars have changed with the adjustment 00:04:43.27\00:04:47.35 or the adopting of a different system. Right. 00:04:47.38\00:04:50.94 But the weekly cycle itself has not changed. 00:04:50.97\00:04:54.29 It is never changed the cycle of Sunday, 00:04:54.32\00:04:56.83 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. 00:04:56.86\00:04:59.55 Right. They even named the days. 00:04:59.58\00:05:01.30 It used to be day one, day two, day three, 00:05:01.33\00:05:03.58 but now it's Sunday, Monday, Tuesday 00:05:03.61\00:05:06.20 and that part has never changed. 00:05:06.23\00:05:07.83 Just the date, the number of the date 00:05:07.86\00:05:10.52 has changed and shifted. 00:05:10.55\00:05:12.37 And so since this time, since the crucifixion of Christ 00:05:12.40\00:05:16.68 and His resurrection, nothing has changed. 00:05:16.71\00:05:19.81 It is still in the order as presented here 00:05:19.84\00:05:23.27 in the scriptures, from Luke 23. 00:05:23.30\00:05:26.47 And I'm gonna start with verse 53, or 52. 00:05:26.50\00:05:33.89 And this is Joseph and it said, 00:05:33.92\00:05:35.40 "This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus." 00:05:35.43\00:05:39.03 Jesus had been crucified. 00:05:39.06\00:05:40.43 He had died and they're asking for His body. 00:05:40.46\00:05:43.44 "Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen 00:05:43.47\00:05:46.33 and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of a rock, 00:05:46.36\00:05:50.47 where no one had ever lain before." 00:05:50.50\00:05:52.84 That day was, John? The preparation. That's right. 00:05:52.87\00:05:57.57 And the Sabbath drew near. 00:05:57.60\00:05:59.99 So it is not the Sabbath yet, it's the preparation day, 00:06:00.02\00:06:03.56 that preparation day is commonly 00:06:03.59\00:06:05.52 also known as Friday. That's right. 00:06:05.55\00:06:08.98 And that's when Jesus was crucified. 00:06:09.01\00:06:11.94 Now there is some confusion, 00:06:11.97\00:06:13.34 we don't have time to talk about this. 00:06:13.37\00:06:14.74 Some say, well may be he wasn't crucified on Friday, 00:06:14.77\00:06:16.51 maybe it was earlier in the week. 00:06:16.54\00:06:18.85 The crucifixion clearly here established 00:06:18.88\00:06:20.58 was on the preparation day, the day has always been Friday. 00:06:20.61\00:06:23.48 History will tell you that. 00:06:23.51\00:06:25.34 Verse 55, "And the women who had come 00:06:25.37\00:06:28.96 with him from Galilee followed after, 00:06:28.99\00:06:30.81 and they observed the tomb and how his body was laid. 00:06:30.84\00:06:33.51 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrance oil." 00:06:33.54\00:06:36.93 And they did, what, John? 00:06:36.96\00:06:38.95 And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment. 00:06:38.98\00:06:42.24 There you go. According to the, what? 00:06:42.27\00:06:45.79 Commandment. Commandment. 00:06:45.82\00:06:47.19 So the disciples are commandment keepers? Right. 00:06:47.22\00:06:50.38 They're also Sabbath keepers 00:06:50.41\00:06:52.57 because they did what Jesus asked them to do, 00:06:52.60\00:06:54.71 that is from Sabbath to Sabbath to observe God's-- 00:06:54.74\00:06:57.12 to remember and observe God's Holy Day. 00:06:57.15\00:07:00.92 Now notice this, verse 1 of Chapter 25 or 24. 00:07:00.95\00:07:07.30 "Now on the first day of the week, 00:07:07.33\00:07:09.20 very early in the morning, they, 00:07:09.23\00:07:11.29 and certain other women with them, 00:07:11.32\00:07:12.69 came to the tomb bringing the spices 00:07:12.72\00:07:14.57 which they had prepared, 00:07:14.60\00:07:16.02 but they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 00:07:16.05\00:07:20.26 then they went in and did not find 00:07:20.29\00:07:22.18 the body of the Lord Jesus." 00:07:22.21\00:07:23.88 John, what had happened? He rose. He rose. 00:07:23.91\00:07:26.59 He rose from the grave. From His--His tomb. 00:07:26.62\00:07:31.26 And today He is still risen. 00:07:31.29\00:07:34.32 And clearly, John, we see established here 00:07:34.35\00:07:36.86 a sequence of days on where these events happened, 00:07:36.89\00:07:42.86 preparation day, crucifixion, the Sabbath, 00:07:42.89\00:07:45.80 Christ resting in the grave, 00:07:45.83\00:07:47.63 His--He in being dead following the crucifixion. 00:07:47.66\00:07:51.42 Sunday, the first day of the week very early 00:07:51.45\00:07:53.91 in the morning being resurrected from the tomb. That's right. 00:07:53.94\00:07:58.04 And that has not changed. 00:07:58.07\00:08:00.04 In fact, I would suggest to you they-- 00:08:00.07\00:08:04.04 well, maybe we're too early to talk about this, 00:08:04.07\00:08:06.11 but the very church that claims the authority 00:08:06.14\00:08:08.55 to have changed that Sabbath to Resurrection Day, 00:08:08.58\00:08:12.13 which we now mostly Christian world observes as the Sabbath. 00:08:12.16\00:08:15.97 They believe it is the Sabbath, as Resurrection Day, 00:08:16.00\00:08:18.76 claims do it on the authority of the resurrection. 00:08:18.79\00:08:22.06 And by virtue of the fact that, 00:08:22.09\00:08:24.72 that resurrection happened on the first day of the week 00:08:24.75\00:08:27.06 which is why we observe or most Christians observe 00:08:27.09\00:08:29.84 the first day of the week in church worship 00:08:29.87\00:08:32.94 and other things that we've now been doing 00:08:32.97\00:08:35.10 as a matter of tradition in the Christian church for now, 00:08:35.13\00:08:38.86 how many centuries? Since early 300 or 4th century. Right. 00:08:38.89\00:08:43.91 Really, 4th century A.D. 00:08:43.94\00:08:45.86 So that's--anyway that's kind of an ushering 00:08:45.89\00:08:48.78 into now what we're seeing as the, 00:08:48.81\00:08:51.31 or what the Bible is gonna describe now 00:08:51.34\00:08:53.14 through the book of Acts as the church era, 00:08:53.17\00:08:56.16 the era of the church under the new covenant. 00:08:56.19\00:08:58.99 And we want to see, John, here whether or not 00:08:59.02\00:09:01.87 the Sabbath was changed at this time or not. Okay. 00:09:01.90\00:09:06.89 Because this is the allegation. This is what is being taught. 00:09:06.92\00:09:11.40 That as the resurrection happened, 00:09:11.43\00:09:14.07 that is when the Sabbath was changed to Sunday 00:09:14.10\00:09:16.88 and that's why we see the disciples 00:09:16.91\00:09:19.27 and others observing the Sabbath 00:09:19.30\00:09:21.13 on this first day of the week in the book of Acts. 00:09:21.16\00:09:23.57 We've got to find out if that's true. 00:09:23.60\00:09:24.97 Okay, well, now--let me begin with the words of Jesus 00:09:25.00\00:09:27.30 because this is a very wonderful place to start. 00:09:27.33\00:09:29.45 I would take the word of Jesus probably, sorry-- 00:09:29.48\00:09:33.20 I would take the word of Jesus 00:09:33.23\00:09:34.60 unequivocally over anyone else's word. 00:09:34.63\00:09:37.67 I mean, that's what we have to get to the place and do. 00:09:37.70\00:09:40.06 We have to say, okay, I know what the pastor said, 00:09:40.09\00:09:42.37 but Jesus says, I know what my church says, 00:09:42.40\00:09:46.09 but Jesus says, that's what we have to do 00:09:46.12\00:09:48.85 and that is missing in Christianity nowadays. 00:09:48.88\00:09:52.31 We are honoring people with mega degrees and giga, 00:09:52.34\00:09:55.95 mega churches like as though there are some, 00:09:55.98\00:09:58.78 they are the new God. That is not God's intent. 00:09:58.81\00:10:03.67 God is to be worshipped. 00:10:03.70\00:10:05.07 When John was about to bow before the angel 00:10:05.10\00:10:07.18 in Revelation 19, the angel says 00:10:07.21\00:10:09.96 "Don't do this, I am of your fellow servant 00:10:09.99\00:10:11.74 and your brethren, worship God" and what's missing today, 00:10:11.77\00:10:14.71 is God's word has been so minimized with the word 00:10:14.74\00:10:17.67 "but" and then they go on to explain something 00:10:17.70\00:10:20.06 that's not supported by God's word. 00:10:20.09\00:10:22.04 But when you read the words of Jesus in reference 00:10:22.07\00:10:24.42 to destruction that was going to come to Jerusalem 00:10:24.45\00:10:29.17 39 years after He made this statement. That's right. 00:10:29.20\00:10:32.87 You'll find that Jesus by His own words acknowledged 00:10:32.90\00:10:38.17 that the Sabbath would still be in place after His death, 00:10:38.20\00:10:42.88 after His resurrection, and after His ascension. 00:10:42.91\00:10:46.19 And as the Christians of the early church 00:10:46.22\00:10:50.03 were coming together for worship. 00:10:50.06\00:10:51.49 Right, the reason why they continued worshipping 00:10:51.52\00:10:53.85 on the Sabbath is because it wasn't an issue. 00:10:53.88\00:10:56.50 But before we're done in the program, 00:10:56.53\00:10:57.97 we hope to try to get to it. 00:10:58.00\00:10:59.37 If not maybe we might think of stretching this. 00:10:59.40\00:11:01.41 But here's my point, 00:11:01.44\00:11:03.26 Jesus by His own words made it very clear 00:11:03.29\00:11:06.32 that long after I'm gone, 00:11:06.35\00:11:07.86 I'm back in heaven preparing a place for you, 00:11:07.89\00:11:10.20 be careful that when destruction comes to you in Jerusalem, 00:11:10.23\00:11:14.04 it doesn't happen on the Sabbath. 00:11:14.07\00:11:15.64 Here's His words, Matthew 24 and let's start with verse 17. 00:11:15.72\00:11:23.69 We're gonna talk about the abomination of desolation 00:11:23.72\00:11:26.75 in verse 15, but let's go ahead and read, 00:11:26.78\00:11:29.06 when destruction comes. 00:11:29.09\00:11:30.53 Verse 16. Matthew 24:16 down to verse 20. 00:11:30.56\00:11:35.42 "Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, 00:11:35.45\00:11:39.83 let him who is on the housetop not come down 00:11:39.86\00:11:42.99 to take anything out of his house." 00:11:43.02\00:11:44.41 In other words, just get. 00:11:44.44\00:11:46.05 Get out of there. Get out of there. 00:11:46.08\00:11:48.32 "And let him who is in the field" 00:11:48.35\00:11:50.00 verse 18 "not go back to get his clothes. 00:11:50.03\00:11:54.25 But woe to those who are pregnant 00:11:54.28\00:11:56.24 and those who are nursing babies in those days." 00:11:56.27\00:11:58.79 This is gonna be tough. 00:11:58.82\00:12:00.33 And then He says in verse 20, 00:12:00.36\00:12:01.73 the words that admit by Jesus' own words, 00:12:01.76\00:12:04.57 He confirmed the continued existence of the Sabbath 00:12:04.60\00:12:08.55 long after His death, and resurrection, and ascension. 00:12:08.58\00:12:11.65 "And pray that your flight 00:12:11.68\00:12:13.88 may not be in winter or on the Sabbath." 00:12:13.91\00:12:19.81 Capitalize Sabbath there. Jesus is saying 00:12:19.84\00:12:23.49 when destruction comes to Jerusalem, 00:12:23.52\00:12:26.13 I pray that it doesn't happened on the Sabbath. 00:12:26.16\00:12:29.45 And, John, tell me, why? 00:12:29.48\00:12:30.85 What would the Christians be doing on the Sabbath? 00:12:30.88\00:12:34.18 They'll be worshipping in the synagogue or in a church. 00:12:34.21\00:12:37.59 And they all know exactly where to find them, 00:12:37.62\00:12:40.64 to destroy them, to take their lives. 00:12:40.67\00:12:43.67 And when you read about the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:12:43.70\00:12:46.08 Josephus, the historian in A.D.-- 00:12:46.11\00:12:48.24 talks about the destruction in A.D.70. 00:12:48.27\00:12:50.85 This statement was made in A.D. 31. 00:12:50.88\00:12:54.26 So 39 years after Jesus ascended to heaven, 00:12:54.29\00:12:57.19 He, Jesus, is saying, there'll still be-- 00:12:57.22\00:12:59.35 the Sabbath will still be in place. Right. 00:12:59.38\00:13:01.93 And He was not talking about a new Sabbath. 00:13:01.96\00:13:05.70 This is the transition now we have to make. 00:13:05.73\00:13:07.59 We have to confirm here that there was no transition 00:13:07.62\00:13:10.41 between what Jesus said, and what the disciples did. 00:13:10.44\00:13:14.54 We talked about that, we touched on that briefly, 00:13:14.57\00:13:16.26 but now we're gonna go 00:13:16.29\00:13:17.66 to some of the passages in the New Testament. 00:13:17.69\00:13:19.95 After John makes his point, 00:13:19.98\00:13:21.35 'cause I know you want to reiterate something. 00:13:21.38\00:13:22.75 We're gonna go to some passages in the New Testament, 00:13:22.78\00:13:25.35 specifically in the book of Acts, 00:13:25.38\00:13:26.76 to show that these disciples 00:13:26.79\00:13:28.49 knew clearly what Jesus meant. 00:13:28.52\00:13:30.73 And by the way, we began the program 00:13:30.76\00:13:32.18 with that very text in Luke 23:54-56 00:13:32.21\00:13:35.78 and Luke 24:1 showing that when Jesus was in the tomb, 00:13:35.81\00:13:40.49 the women that were gonna anoint His body, 00:13:40.52\00:13:42.85 they didn't do so, on the Sabbath 00:13:42.88\00:13:44.28 because they rested, according to the commandment. 00:13:44.31\00:13:46.68 They rested according to the commandment, 00:13:46.71\00:13:48.80 the fourth commandment. Jesus even rested at His death. 00:13:48.83\00:13:54.94 He was in the tomb on the Sabbath day. 00:13:54.97\00:13:58.26 So now, let's go to a couple of passages 00:13:58.29\00:13:59.89 in the New Testament. What do you wanna say before we...? 00:13:59.92\00:14:02.54 No, let's just go to several of them. All right. 00:14:02.57\00:14:04.91 We're gonna read from Acts 13, Acts 17, Acts 18. Acts 6-- 00:14:04.94\00:14:10.08 Several things, that are clearly indicators, 00:14:10.11\00:14:14.88 the day that both Jews and Gentiles 00:14:14.91\00:14:18.24 came together for worship. 00:14:18.27\00:14:20.32 That's right. Okay, which one? 00:14:20.35\00:14:21.72 Spend time observing God Sabbath day. 00:14:21.75\00:14:23.58 Let's start with the first one, go for it. 00:14:23.61\00:14:25.31 So the first one, I want to kind of give you 00:14:25.34\00:14:27.18 every instance. Right. 00:14:27.21\00:14:28.58 Let's look at most of these here. 00:14:28.61\00:14:29.98 Acts 13:42 and 44. All right. 00:14:30.01\00:14:34.06 Verse 42 says, "So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, 00:14:34.09\00:14:37.34 the Gentiles begged that these words 00:14:37.37\00:14:39.46 might be preached to them the next Sabbath." 00:14:39.49\00:14:42.99 And then verse 44 says, "On the next Sabbath 00:14:43.02\00:14:45.24 almost the whole city came together 00:14:45.27\00:14:47.36 to hear the word of God." This is now the Sabbath. 00:14:47.39\00:14:50.65 That's right. All right? 00:14:50.68\00:14:52.05 Now, why do we know this isn't Sunday? 00:14:52.08\00:14:54.64 Because the Sabbath is a different word 00:14:54.67\00:14:57.30 than the first day of the week. That's right. 00:14:57.33\00:15:00.17 These are two different days 00:15:00.20\00:15:01.57 as we're just seeing Luke describe. 00:15:01.60\00:15:03.76 Dr. Luke, who wrote the book of Luke 00:15:03.79\00:15:05.87 which we just read from also, wrote the book of Acts. 00:15:05.90\00:15:08.96 He didn't just mess up in his language. 00:15:08.99\00:15:10.75 He was consistent. 00:15:10.78\00:15:12.15 He says this is the Sabbath, another day, 00:15:12.18\00:15:14.99 the first day of the week, is a different day. 00:15:15.02\00:15:18.00 And the Sabbath was the day that Jews and Gentiles 00:15:18.03\00:15:20.69 came together to worship the Lord and to praise His name. 00:15:20.72\00:15:25.28 And so we see the first instance of that here in Acts 13, John. 00:15:25.31\00:15:30.68 So there you go, Acts 13:42 and 44. 00:15:30.71\00:15:34.91 So right away we find the Jews and the Gentiles, Sabbath. 00:15:34.94\00:15:38.84 Paul and Barnabas preaching on the Sabbath, clearly. 00:15:38.87\00:15:42.23 Now, let's look at the next reference. 00:15:42.26\00:15:43.94 Here we go to the Acts 17, Acts 17 Verse 2. 00:15:43.97\00:15:49.73 And look at verse 2. 00:15:49.76\00:15:51.47 And this one is significant because this is where 00:15:51.50\00:15:53.78 Thessalonica where they began to turn the world upside down. 00:15:53.81\00:15:57.58 And when you look at this, it is very significant. 00:15:57.61\00:16:00.22 Then we're gonna go to the passages 00:16:00.25\00:16:01.62 that are commonly referred to as the text that holds the change. 00:16:01.65\00:16:07.91 But we'll see that it's completely contrary, 00:16:07.94\00:16:10.58 there is no change. 00:16:10.61\00:16:12.17 Okay, Acts 17:1 and 2, 00:16:12.20\00:16:15.55 "Now when they had passed through 00:16:15.58\00:16:18.19 Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, 00:16:18.22\00:16:26.15 where there was a synagogue of the Jews. 00:16:26.18\00:16:29.40 Then Paul, as his custom was went into them, 00:16:29.43\00:16:35.04 and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the scriptures. 00:16:35.07\00:16:42.55 Now explaining and demonstrating 00:16:42.58\00:16:46.09 that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead 00:16:46.12\00:16:50.47 and saying, 'this Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.' 00:16:50.50\00:16:56.03 And some of them were persuaded 00:16:56.06\00:16:59.07 and a great multitude of the devout Greeks 00:16:59.10\00:17:04.12 and not a Jew of the leading woman joined Paul and Silas." 00:17:04.15\00:17:10.60 Not a few, yeah. 00:17:10.63\00:17:12.00 Not a few, that means who accepted the fact? 00:17:12.03\00:17:15.14 The Greeks so for the-- Lots of them. Lots of them. 00:17:15.17\00:17:17.23 Not few, but many. 00:17:17.26\00:17:18.84 So the Greeks accepted Christ, 00:17:18.87\00:17:20.41 but where did the Greeks hear this message? 00:17:20.44\00:17:23.50 On the Sabbath day. 00:17:23.53\00:17:24.90 And that's-- that of course parallels Acts 13 00:17:24.93\00:17:27.52 which we just read where he was-- 00:17:27.55\00:17:30.56 Paul was persuading both Jews and Greeks, Jews and Gentiles. 00:17:30.59\00:17:34.42 That's right. On the Sabbath. 00:17:34.45\00:17:36.19 And this clearly here is repeating that 00:17:36.22\00:17:38.36 it was Paul's custom as well as it was Jesus' custom 00:17:38.39\00:17:40.88 when He was on this earth. 00:17:40.91\00:17:42.73 Now let's go to Acts 18. 00:17:42.76\00:17:45.29 We actually didn't go to one 00:17:45.32\00:17:47.85 but we'll go back to that in a moment. 00:17:47.88\00:17:49.50 Acts 18:4, read that one for us, John. 00:17:49.53\00:17:51.79 "And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, 00:17:51.82\00:17:54.80 and persuaded both Jews and Greeks." Okay. 00:17:54.83\00:17:58.51 So we have a connection with both-- 00:17:58.54\00:18:00.79 worship of both of them going on. 00:18:00.82\00:18:02.56 There's no separate day. 00:18:02.59\00:18:03.96 And when He says, he persuaded, 00:18:03.99\00:18:06.22 he reasoned with them every Sabbath 00:18:06.25\00:18:07.82 and persuaded both Jews and Greeks. 00:18:07.85\00:18:09.52 In this particular instance, Paul was reasoning, 00:18:09.55\00:18:13.24 and when he says every Sabbath, 00:18:13.27\00:18:14.89 he was there for a year and a half. 00:18:14.92\00:18:18.48 How many days? That's verse 11. 00:18:18.51\00:18:19.88 We know that from verse 11. 00:18:19.91\00:18:21.28 A year and a half he was there. 00:18:21.31\00:18:23.59 A year and six months. 00:18:23.62\00:18:25.00 Now, how many-- how many months is that? 00:18:25.03\00:18:27.10 That's 18 months, isn't it? Yeah. 00:18:27.13\00:18:28.85 Okay. How many Sabbaths is that? 18? 00:18:28.88\00:18:31.03 How many Sabbaths is that? 00:18:31.06\00:18:32.44 I think its 72 or 78 Sabbath. 00:18:32.47\00:18:36.30 78 Sabbaths in a row. 00:18:36.33\00:18:39.61 Now, if I had changed something, 00:18:39.64\00:18:43.26 I would have been really upset with Paul, 00:18:43.29\00:18:45.82 that he would have been sending the wrong message. 00:18:45.85\00:18:48.03 If God intended to change, 00:18:48.06\00:18:49.43 if Jesus had nailed the Sabbath to the cross. 00:18:49.46\00:18:52.26 I would have said this guy is not representing me. 00:18:52.29\00:18:54.85 I would not have his works recorded. 00:18:54.88\00:18:56.86 Matter of fact, I would refer to him 00:18:56.89\00:18:58.31 not as an apostle to the Gentiles, 00:18:58.34\00:19:00.46 but an apostate apostle. 00:19:00.49\00:19:02.57 Yet by his very actions, a year and six months, 00:19:02.60\00:19:05.93 78 weeks in a row, 78 Sabbaths in a row, 00:19:05.96\00:19:09.88 he preached to Jews and Greeks. 00:19:09.91\00:19:13.36 You know, John, I see no evidence of a change there. 00:19:13.39\00:19:15.95 So that's clearly not any place you can go to to suggest 00:19:15.98\00:19:20.05 that the Sabbath was changed to Sunday. That's right. 00:19:20.08\00:19:22.08 'Cause there is a consistency here of meeting every Sabbath. 00:19:22.11\00:19:24.96 That's right, and you know what's amazing 00:19:24.99\00:19:26.68 about this book it's called the Acts of the Apostles. 00:19:26.71\00:19:29.42 There are shortened-- shortened to Acts. 00:19:29.45\00:19:32.59 This is what they did? 00:19:32.62\00:19:33.99 This is what they did? So if I'm an apostle, 00:19:34.02\00:19:36.73 if I'm carrying a message as a preacher, 00:19:36.76\00:19:39.47 I should be following what the apostles did. 00:19:39.50\00:19:42.04 So this idea of the Apostles' Creed, 00:19:42.07\00:19:43.81 it's all in the life of the apostles. 00:19:43.84\00:19:45.90 This is what they did. 00:19:45.93\00:19:47.30 They're not doing anything out of harmony 00:19:47.33\00:19:48.70 with what Jesus established from the very beginning, 00:19:48.73\00:19:51.61 Old Testament, the life of Christ, 00:19:51.64\00:19:53.26 He did the same thing. 00:19:53.29\00:19:54.66 He said it was gonna exist 00:19:54.69\00:19:56.06 long after He had ascended to heaven. 00:19:56.09\00:19:57.77 So that's why they're continuing to honor the Sabbath. 00:19:57.80\00:20:00.32 Now let's go to another reference Acts 16:13. 00:20:00.35\00:20:03.74 I'd like you to read that one for me. 00:20:03.77\00:20:05.32 It says, "On the Sabbath day we went out of the city 00:20:05.35\00:20:08.04 to the river side, where prayer was customarily made; 00:20:08.07\00:20:11.53 and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there." 00:20:11.56\00:20:14.98 Okay, the reason why they did it by the river side is 00:20:15.01\00:20:17.73 because they were not enough men to begin 00:20:17.76\00:20:19.22 a physical church building, but they continued worshipping, 00:20:19.25\00:20:22.34 so they went down by the river side. 00:20:22.37\00:20:25.42 But, once again, no evidence there 00:20:25.45\00:20:27.79 that there was any change in the Sabbath. 00:20:27.82\00:20:29.91 We're seeing consistently, over and over 00:20:29.94\00:20:32.37 the New Testament Church. 00:20:32.40\00:20:34.70 Get this, friends, the New Testament Church. 00:20:34.73\00:20:38.29 We are the New Testament Church. 00:20:38.32\00:20:39.80 The New Testament Christian did not change the day 00:20:39.83\00:20:45.17 from the seventh day Sabbath to the first day. 00:20:45.20\00:20:49.63 Any change yet, John? No, no change. 00:20:49.66\00:20:51.64 Okay, so now what I wanna do, is now I'm gonna dive 00:20:51.67\00:20:54.49 into the fray and bring up the favorite text 00:20:54.52\00:20:58.15 in the book of Acts that is often sided 00:20:58.18\00:21:02.20 as the change coming into play. Okay. 00:21:02.23\00:21:04.38 All right? Let's go Acts 20:7. 00:21:04.41\00:21:06.56 We're gonna look at all these texts. 00:21:06.59\00:21:08.62 Acts 20:7 and I'd like you to read that one for us, John. 00:21:08.65\00:21:11.53 I'm gonna look up something else here 00:21:11.56\00:21:12.93 while you're reading Acts 20:7. 00:21:12.96\00:21:14.63 And this is particularly very significant, read Acts 20:7. 00:21:14.66\00:21:19.42 Okay, it says, verse 7, 00:21:19.45\00:21:20.82 "Now on the first day of the week, 00:21:20.85\00:21:22.31 when the disciples came together to break bread, 00:21:22.34\00:21:25.47 Paul, ready to depart the next day, 00:21:25.50\00:21:27.35 spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. 00:21:27.38\00:21:31.45 There were many lamps in the upper room 00:21:31.48\00:21:33.97 where they were gathered together." 00:21:34.00\00:21:36.68 So one of the interesting things about this text, 00:21:36.71\00:21:38.28 is that it shows that the disciples 00:21:38.31\00:21:40.90 and those that were worshipping together, 00:21:40.93\00:21:43.40 gathered during an evening. Right. 00:21:43.43\00:21:46.93 This is where many lamps were burning. 00:21:46.96\00:21:49.39 This is where the message continued until midnight 00:21:49.42\00:21:51.84 that Paul was preaching 00:21:51.87\00:21:53.64 and they were gathered together in the evening. 00:21:53.67\00:21:55.41 Now, here's the one of the interesting things 00:21:55.44\00:21:56.81 about this is that we-- here it commonly taught 00:21:56.84\00:21:59.76 that on the first day of the week, 00:21:59.79\00:22:01.16 look there's a gathering of the people together. 00:22:01.19\00:22:02.58 And they're breaking bread. 00:22:02.61\00:22:03.98 And they're breaking bread. So clearly there's a change. 00:22:04.01\00:22:06.56 Well, number one, the first problem is, 00:22:06.59\00:22:08.01 this is the first day of the week 00:22:08.04\00:22:09.41 and it's in opposition to the Sabbath 00:22:09.44\00:22:11.46 that they met inconsistently or consistently 00:22:11.49\00:22:14.87 throughout, up to this point. That's right. 00:22:14.90\00:22:18.31 But keep in mind here, 00:22:18.34\00:22:19.71 there's one thing that often people forget, 00:22:19.74\00:22:22.37 to this day-- during this day 00:22:22.40\00:22:25.12 the custom of the Jews as a nation, 00:22:25.15\00:22:28.53 and as a people, and had been for many years, 00:22:28.56\00:22:31.17 was that the day began at evening. That's right. 00:22:31.20\00:22:36.69 So where the sunset that was 00:22:36.72\00:22:39.15 the beginning of the next day. Correct. 00:22:39.18\00:22:41.65 So the beginning of the first day of the week 00:22:41.68\00:22:44.38 was actually in our day, Saturday night. Okay. 00:22:44.41\00:22:48.80 So the Sabbath, which is why the Jews to this day, 00:22:48.83\00:22:52.43 we, as well, observe the seventh day of the week 00:22:52.46\00:22:56.30 from Friday sun down 'cause that's the beginning 00:22:56.33\00:22:58.23 of the seventh day to Saturday sun down. That's right. 00:22:58.26\00:23:00.65 Then on Saturday sun down is the first day 00:23:00.68\00:23:02.33 of the week till Sunday sun down. That's right. 00:23:02.36\00:23:04.80 So this here is a meeting that's taking place 00:23:04.83\00:23:07.22 in vernacular today on Saturday night. Right. 00:23:07.25\00:23:11.51 What were they doing on Saturday night? 00:23:11.54\00:23:13.11 Well, if you do some research, John, I was looking online. 00:23:13.14\00:23:15.17 There was a custom that the Jews 00:23:15.20\00:23:19.02 had where they would get together 00:23:19.05\00:23:20.42 and we call it vespers, having a vesper program. 00:23:20.45\00:23:23.42 But they had vespers as well. 00:23:23.45\00:23:25.69 They got together regularly to close out the Sabbath. 00:23:25.72\00:23:28.62 They'd been observing the Sabbath all day, 00:23:28.65\00:23:30.31 they'd spent time together, the evening now 00:23:30.34\00:23:32.55 had come and they were having Sabbath vespers. 00:23:32.58\00:23:34.74 This was simply saying that as they spent 00:23:34.77\00:23:36.78 the whole day together on the seventh day, 00:23:36.81\00:23:38.54 as the evening came about, they had this vesper program 00:23:38.57\00:23:42.92 and Paul preached during this vesper program 00:23:42.95\00:23:44.87 until midnight. All right. 00:23:44.90\00:23:46.91 That is what's happening here. 00:23:46.94\00:23:48.58 There is no endorsement of a Sunday worship service 00:23:48.61\00:23:52.49 or a first day of the week, except that it's at evening, 00:23:52.52\00:23:55.26 on Saturday night worship service here. 00:23:55.29\00:23:57.58 So we easily can dismiss this text from being-- 00:23:57.61\00:24:00.51 providing any kind of support for a change 00:24:00.54\00:24:03.11 of the observance of Sabbath to Sunday. 00:24:03.14\00:24:05.06 And the other thing that is amazing here 00:24:05.09\00:24:06.64 that we cannot afford to not mention is, 00:24:06.67\00:24:10.09 there's almost the suggestion that by doing something 00:24:10.12\00:24:12.81 you change what God has done. 00:24:12.84\00:24:15.74 There's a suggestion here by-- 00:24:15.77\00:24:17.34 let's just say, now we met on Sunday. 00:24:17.37\00:24:20.00 And matter of fact, we give--we have 00:24:20.03\00:24:22.12 a Bible study training class on Sunday morning, 00:24:22.15\00:24:25.49 and we met three Sundays in a row, 00:24:25.52\00:24:27.77 would that action say to the community, 00:24:27.80\00:24:30.92 now the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:24:30.95\00:24:33.04 is honoring the first day of the week? 00:24:33.07\00:24:35.13 Absolutely, not. That's the same instance here. 00:24:35.16\00:24:37.98 Paul was gathering together-- 00:24:38.01\00:24:39.44 He was about to take a 16 to 20 city tour all throughout Asia. 00:24:39.47\00:24:46.63 He was gonna go from one location 00:24:46.66\00:24:48.13 to the other, eventually, ending up in Rome, 00:24:48.16\00:24:50.67 where in the duration, in the process of this journey, 00:24:50.70\00:24:54.13 he was arrested and eventually ended up to Rome 00:24:54.16\00:24:56.03 and appealed to Caesar. 00:24:56.06\00:24:57.43 You find that in Acts 27. 00:24:57.46\00:24:58.89 But he was simply giving his farewell sermon 00:24:58.92\00:25:03.08 to the Christians at Troas 00:25:03.11\00:25:06.67 and when Eutychus fell from the window 00:25:06.70\00:25:10.01 because he preached so long and so late in the evening. 00:25:10.04\00:25:12.26 I don't feel bad, I preach sometimes up to an hour 00:25:12.29\00:25:15.13 and may be a little bit after that. 00:25:15.16\00:25:16.96 But Paul preached and even after Eutychus was 00:25:16.99\00:25:19.26 brought back to life he continued preaching. 00:25:19.29\00:25:21.52 He was biding them farewell as he was gonna begin a long tour. 00:25:21.55\00:25:25.25 But here's what the-here's what the inference, 00:25:25.28\00:25:27.27 here's what the suggestions are when people read this text. 00:25:27.30\00:25:30.30 They said see, they were breaking bread 00:25:30.33\00:25:32.59 on the first day of the week. 00:25:32.62\00:25:35.01 That's what this text is used to say. 00:25:35.04\00:25:37.36 But, friends, what they don't tell you 00:25:37.39\00:25:39.27 is what Acts 2:46 says. Go there with me. 00:25:39.30\00:25:43.20 Showing you once again 00:25:43.23\00:25:44.60 that the actions of man cannot remove, 00:25:44.63\00:25:47.07 nor abricate, nor alter the command of God. 00:25:47.10\00:25:51.83 Here it is, Acts 2:46. Notice what it says. 00:25:51.86\00:25:56.14 "So continuing" what is the next word, John? Daily. 00:25:56.17\00:25:59.52 "Daily with one accord in the temple, 00:25:59.55\00:26:03.67 and breaking bread from house to house, 00:26:03.70\00:26:07.43 they ate their food 00:26:07.46\00:26:08.83 with gladness and simplicity of heart." 00:26:08.86\00:26:12.22 Verse 47 "Praising God 00:26:12.25\00:26:14.64 and having favor with all the people. 00:26:14.67\00:26:16.71 And the Lord added to the church." 00:26:16.74\00:26:18.88 How frequently, John? Daily. 00:26:18.91\00:26:21.71 Those who were being saved, this was evangelism. 00:26:21.74\00:26:25.21 This what, this is exactly what this was-- 00:26:25.24\00:26:27.14 house to house temple evangelism. 00:26:27.17\00:26:30.05 Everyday people were being saved. 00:26:30.08\00:26:32.03 Well, how're they gonna be saved everyday? 00:26:32.06\00:26:34.20 By breaking bread in the temple and from house to house. 00:26:34.23\00:26:37.82 These people are serious about 00:26:37.85\00:26:39.22 getting the message out. That's right. 00:26:39.25\00:26:40.62 That's what this is saying. 00:26:40.65\00:26:42.02 The breaking of bread was not an action to abricate, 00:26:42.05\00:26:44.84 nullify or void the fourth commandment. 00:26:44.87\00:26:49.10 So we have no evidences thus far. 00:26:49.13\00:26:50.96 But let's go to another text now. 00:26:50.99\00:26:52.74 This is text number 1. 00:26:52.77\00:26:54.14 Acts 20:7. When you read-- when you listen 00:26:54.17\00:26:55.97 to a sermon by very popular preacher, 00:26:56.00\00:26:59.18 take note, all those popular preachers 00:26:59.21\00:27:03.44 deceive their congregation with this text. 00:27:03.47\00:27:05.95 And they use this text and say, 00:27:05.98\00:27:07.71 in this verse to Christians transfer the legalistic Sabbath 00:27:07.74\00:27:12.29 from the Jews to the first day of the week 00:27:12.32\00:27:15.76 after the resurrection of Christ. 00:27:15.79\00:27:19.05 Lie. Not true. And here's what-- 00:27:19.08\00:27:21.96 This is not a transference of the Sabbath. 00:27:21.99\00:27:23.70 We want to say this. 00:27:23.73\00:27:25.10 We want to be respectful, 00:27:25.13\00:27:26.70 but we want to be defensive of the truth. Exactly. 00:27:26.73\00:27:29.24 This is where we're being defensive 00:27:29.27\00:27:30.64 of the truth not to be disrespectful. 00:27:30.67\00:27:33.77 We say this because it is my belief that many of them 00:27:33.80\00:27:37.95 actually do understand that there was a-- 00:27:37.98\00:27:40.67 there was no change. How'd they know that? 00:27:40.70\00:27:42.12 And the Sabbath is Sunday. 00:27:42.15\00:27:44.01 The real issue is that if they were to change, 00:27:44.04\00:27:47.47 they would lose most of their congregation 00:27:47.50\00:27:49.67 and they would lose the financial benefits 00:27:49.70\00:27:51.75 that come from pastoring the church. 00:27:51.78\00:27:53.15 It's a sad reality, but it's true. It is true. 00:27:53.18\00:27:55.14 We've had preachers that told us that. 00:27:55.17\00:27:56.88 And I'm respectfully stating the truth, 00:27:56.91\00:27:59.30 because most of the time, on this subject, 00:27:59.33\00:28:02.48 it is a rationalization of the practice, 00:28:02.51\00:28:04.94 not an actual search to put the church 00:28:04.97\00:28:07.73 in harmony with God's word. Right. 00:28:07.76\00:28:09.51 And this is where we're standing up and saying, 00:28:09.54\00:28:11.42 you know, we're living in the last days 00:28:11.45\00:28:12.82 and this is becoming-- it's going to become the issue. 00:28:12.85\00:28:16.39 The bifurcating, separating issue between 00:28:16.42\00:28:19.08 God's faithful people and those who are observing 00:28:19.11\00:28:23.24 a man made setup, a tradition. That's right. 00:28:23.27\00:28:25.79 If that's the case, we must get this message out 00:28:25.82\00:28:28.23 which is why we're doing this special series, 00:28:28.26\00:28:31.23 a sharing series here on the Sabbath. 00:28:31.26\00:28:33.64 And of course the second great era 00:28:33.67\00:28:35.19 which is coming up on the immortality of the soul. 00:28:35.22\00:28:40.05 So anyway, I just wanted to say that because--I'm glad you did. 00:28:40.08\00:28:43.02 We keep harping on this, 00:28:43.05\00:28:44.42 but we're trying not to do this disrespectfully. 00:28:44.45\00:28:46.54 We're trying to do this with respect, 00:28:46.57\00:28:48.13 but there's also sometimes the truth does have 00:28:48.16\00:28:50.72 that two edge sword, it does cut. 00:28:50.75\00:28:52.95 And, you know what, we want to agitate, 00:28:52.98\00:28:54.93 and the word I'm using there agitate is intentional. 00:28:54.96\00:28:57.86 We want to agitate the mind because, you know what, 00:28:57.89\00:29:00.63 so many Christians don't think, 00:29:00.66\00:29:02.30 they just do what the pastor says. 00:29:02.33\00:29:04.21 They don't read their Bibles. 00:29:04.24\00:29:05.61 They sit in church like this 00:29:05.64\00:29:07.85 and they listen to these classically, 00:29:07.88\00:29:09.25 wonderfully put together oratorial displays. 00:29:09.28\00:29:13.06 They don't do anything. Itching--Itching ears, 00:29:13.09\00:29:14.46 what's that verse. 00:29:14.49\00:29:15.86 Yeah, they gather to themselves 00:29:15.89\00:29:17.26 teachers, having itching ears. 00:29:17.29\00:29:18.66 Paul talked about that in the last days, 00:29:18.69\00:29:20.18 there'll be teachers that will gather to themselves. 00:29:20.21\00:29:22.78 They will gather teachers that have itching years. 00:29:22.81\00:29:24.43 They'll turn away from the truth and be turned to fables. 00:29:24.46\00:29:26.66 And the itching ears, there is they want to have their ways, 00:29:26.69\00:29:30.04 their ears scratched. 00:29:30.07\00:29:31.85 So they feel good about what they practice already, 00:29:31.88\00:29:34.08 not to learn the truth, 00:29:34.11\00:29:35.56 but that someone would endorse and support their lifestyle. 00:29:35.59\00:29:38.20 And that's unfortunate that the truth 00:29:38.23\00:29:39.74 offends sometime because if you are Christians-- 00:29:39.77\00:29:42.15 I heard a preacher just recently say, 00:29:42.18\00:29:44.25 the truth is so important to the people of God. 00:29:44.28\00:29:46.12 We've got to honor the truth and in the very same sermon 00:29:46.21\00:29:48.28 he's teaching the Sabbath was changed 00:29:48.31\00:29:49.69 to the first day of the week. 00:29:49.72\00:29:51.09 And I am thinking, apply that principle to yourself. 00:29:51.12\00:29:54.34 But now, let's go to the next passage and, John, 00:29:54.37\00:29:57.62 I want you to read here in the book of 1 Corinthians 16. 00:29:57.65\00:30:03.07 First Corinthians 16, I want you to look together 00:30:03.10\00:30:05.67 with me at verse 1 and read that for us. 00:30:05.70\00:30:10.86 "Now concerning the collection for the saints as I have 00:30:10.89\00:30:14.93 given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also. 00:30:14.96\00:30:19.35 On the first of the week that each one of you 00:30:19.38\00:30:21.76 lay something aside storing up as He may prosper. 00:30:21.79\00:30:24.97 That there may be no collection when I come." 00:30:27.06\00:30:29.53 Okay, now, this passage in fact 00:30:29.56\00:30:33.79 is speaking about the famine 00:30:33.82\00:30:38.03 that had gripped the church. 00:30:38.06\00:30:41.63 And in order for the relief to come to those 00:30:41.66\00:30:46.50 who were effected by famine. 00:30:46.53\00:30:48.97 This was what I may refer to as a Red Cross, 00:30:49.00\00:30:53.62 or Salvation Army attempt. 00:30:53.65\00:30:55.27 Special call to give. 00:30:55.30\00:30:56.67 A special call to give. 00:30:56.70\00:30:58.07 But what I want you to notice 00:30:58.10\00:30:59.72 is this collection did not take place in a church. 00:30:59.75\00:31:02.99 There's no church gathering here. 00:31:03.02\00:31:05.21 The gathering was what the people 00:31:05.24\00:31:07.58 did at their own homes, 00:31:07.61\00:31:09.08 that there be no gathering when I come. 00:31:09.11\00:31:11.56 Otherwise you'll be pulling things together 00:31:11.59\00:31:13.12 while I am standing at the doorway. 00:31:13.15\00:31:15.19 Get this again. 00:31:15.22\00:31:16.81 On the first day of the week Acts 16, verse 2. 00:31:16.84\00:31:20.44 Let each one of you lay something aside. 00:31:20.47\00:31:24.93 Lay it aside, clothing, food, 00:31:24.96\00:31:27.28 canned food whatever. Store it up. 00:31:27.31\00:31:29.41 Storing up as He may prosper 00:31:29.44\00:31:34.46 that there be no collections when I come. 00:31:34.49\00:31:40.18 Now, when you come to church, but when I come to your house. 00:31:40.21\00:31:44.51 But this text has been twisted. 00:31:44.54\00:31:46.52 When Christians gathered together in the church, 00:31:46.55\00:31:48.48 they had a collection on the first day of the week. 00:31:48.51\00:31:50.43 That's not what this says. 00:31:50.46\00:31:51.83 And if you go on further, 00:31:51.86\00:31:53.40 you will notice that as they continue this collection. 00:31:53.43\00:31:57.09 And look at verse 3. 00:31:57.12\00:31:58.85 "And when I come whomever you appoint by your letters 00:31:58.88\00:32:03.66 I will sent to bear you a gift to," where? 00:32:03.69\00:32:06.27 "Jerusalem." The Christians in Jerusalem were 00:32:06.30\00:32:09.79 experiencing a famine and they were getting all they could, 00:32:09.82\00:32:13.39 all the goods they could 00:32:13.42\00:32:14.79 to relieve the suffering of those in Jerusalem. 00:32:14.82\00:32:17.17 So you go on further and you see the story. 00:32:17.20\00:32:19.61 "But if it is fitting" verse 4 "that I go also, 00:32:19.64\00:32:22.47 they will go with me." And then conclusions down here. 00:32:22.50\00:32:25.31 "Now I will come to you when I pass through Macedonia 00:32:25.34\00:32:28.44 for I am passing through Macedonia." 00:32:28.47\00:32:30.69 And so He is continuing going from city to city 00:32:30.72\00:32:32.87 to gather food, to gather provision 00:32:32.90\00:32:35.35 for those who are under famine 00:32:35.38\00:32:38.01 and in under dourest in Jerusalem. 00:32:38.04\00:32:40.51 Now, we need to answer though 00:32:40.54\00:32:41.91 why this was to begin on the first day of the week, 00:32:41.94\00:32:44.21 because there is a principle here. 00:32:44.24\00:32:46.51 They had been gathering together on the seventh day of the week. 00:32:46.54\00:32:50.06 And this is the very next day-- the first day of the week. 00:32:50.09\00:32:52.24 This is when the collection or the gathering should begin. 00:32:52.27\00:32:55.67 That's right Start thinking-- 00:32:55.70\00:32:57.07 here's the principle, start thinking about your offerings 00:32:57.10\00:32:59.16 and your gifts before you get to church. 00:32:59.19\00:33:01.93 Start thinking about your offerings and gifts 00:33:01.96\00:33:03.81 for the next Sabbath when you come together to worship 00:33:03.84\00:33:06.71 on the very day after you've spent 00:33:06.74\00:33:09.11 the last Sabbath at your church. 00:33:09.14\00:33:11.04 Sometimes I think, John, as pastors we wonder 00:33:11.07\00:33:13.49 with our giving in congregations 00:33:13.52\00:33:15.77 that it's just like whatever is in your pocket. 00:33:15.80\00:33:19.17 Oh, what do I have? Right. 00:33:19.20\00:33:21.01 And they pull out and throw it in the envelope. 00:33:21.04\00:33:22.83 Paul is saying here, I want you to think about it 00:33:22.86\00:33:24.70 as early as possible which should be the first day, 00:33:24.73\00:33:26.87 the day after you've gathered together 00:33:26.90\00:33:28.60 for your next offering. That's right. 00:33:28.63\00:33:31.15 So the principle here it clearly follows 00:33:31.18\00:33:33.90 that they've all ready come together to observe. 00:33:33.93\00:33:36.47 Now, individually they are setting something aside, 00:33:36.50\00:33:38.80 storing it up beginning the first day of the week on. 00:33:38.83\00:33:40.98 Right. So these two passages the most popular ones Acts 20: 7 00:33:41.01\00:33:46.98 and First Corinthians 16:1 down to verse 4 00:33:47.01\00:33:52.41 You could read the rest of the story 00:33:52.44\00:33:54.06 because the collection continued. 00:33:54.09\00:33:55.90 They were relieving the suffering, 00:33:55.93\00:33:57.78 point--bread was broken, 00:33:57.81\00:34:00.53 bread was broken by the Christians everyday. 00:34:00.56\00:34:03.38 Acts 2:46 is a supplement to Acts 21:7 showing, 00:34:03.41\00:34:07.87 you that breaking of bread 00:34:07.90\00:34:09.27 was not a first day, new Sabbath, 00:34:09.30\00:34:11.93 new day of worship activity. 00:34:11.96\00:34:14.07 Not at all supported by scripture. 00:34:14.10\00:34:16.36 First Corinthians 16 was a collection 00:34:16.39\00:34:18.71 for the saints that were in hardship in Jerusalem. 00:34:18.74\00:34:22.57 They were going from house to house collecting. 00:34:22.60\00:34:24.71 This was not a collection taken up in church 00:34:24.74\00:34:27.12 on the first day of the week. 00:34:27.15\00:34:28.84 This first day of the week collecting 00:34:28.87\00:34:30.90 was taken up from house to house. 00:34:30.93\00:34:32.54 They were collecting from house to house. 00:34:32.57\00:34:35.58 Read the story that, they'll be no collecting 00:34:35.61\00:34:37.38 when I come to your house, not when you come to church. 00:34:37.41\00:34:41.89 So these are out of window. Yeah. 00:34:41.92\00:34:43.86 Now let's-- look in third--third one 00:34:43.89\00:34:45.38 you want to transition by saying something. 00:34:45.41\00:34:46.78 No, go ahead, we see we have a lot to cover. 00:34:46.81\00:34:48.33 We've lot to cover. Twenty minutes left. 00:34:48.36\00:34:49.73 So going fast. So We need to move on 00:34:49.76\00:34:51.97 because we got to cover Colossians 2. 00:34:52.00\00:34:54.37 We got to cover Ephesians 2. Okay. 00:34:54.40\00:34:57.09 Romans 14. And by the way-- 00:34:57.12\00:34:59.23 by the way I want to point this out. 00:34:59.26\00:35:00.63 We did that in a former program 00:35:00.66\00:35:02.05 when we talked about the two laws contrasted. 00:35:02.08\00:35:05.64 So but, we all just include a little portion of that 00:35:05.67\00:35:08.02 in this program because it fits here. 00:35:08.05\00:35:09.73 Revelation 1:10. It's the third text that's often referred to. 00:35:09.76\00:35:13.30 And by the way some of your chain references-- 00:35:13.33\00:35:15.37 reference Bibles do the job on you 00:35:15.40\00:35:17.04 because the chain references are not inspired references. 00:35:17.07\00:35:20.48 These are chained references 00:35:20.51\00:35:21.88 often put in by the commentators, 00:35:21.91\00:35:23.77 by the people who put these Bibles together. 00:35:23.80\00:35:26.32 You'll notice in your Bible at Revelation 1:10 00:35:26.35\00:35:29.13 the chain reference points you to Acts 20:7 00:35:29.16\00:35:32.68 when you read the phrase the Lord's Day. 00:35:32.71\00:35:34.88 That's the classic way that Satan has used people 00:35:34.91\00:35:37.98 to drive your mind opposite 00:35:38.01\00:35:39.69 to what God's word actually says. 00:35:39.72\00:35:41.46 I'm being frank about it. Read out Revelation 1:10. 00:35:41.49\00:35:45.29 "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, 00:35:45.32\00:35:47.54 and I heard behind me a loud voice as of a trumpet." 00:35:47.57\00:35:50.91 Now, I head the preacher say again. 00:35:50.94\00:35:54.33 Revelation 1:10, they gathered on the Lord's day 00:35:54.36\00:35:57.12 the first day of the week. 00:35:57.15\00:35:59.03 You will find no scriptural support 00:35:59.06\00:36:00.46 for that at all, none whatsoever. 00:36:00.49\00:36:03.69 And once again, I reiterate, 00:36:03.72\00:36:05.33 man cannot change in the course of human history 00:36:05.36\00:36:09.05 what God never changed, what Jesus never changed, 00:36:09.08\00:36:12.21 and what the disciples had no authority to change. 00:36:12.24\00:36:15.26 So who changed it? God didn't, 00:36:15.29\00:36:17.52 Jesus wouldn't, the apostles couldn't. 00:36:17.55\00:36:21.07 So the question is, who did. All right. That's true. 00:36:21.10\00:36:24.25 In fact I did some looking up here real quick 00:36:24.28\00:36:26.79 while we were talking about some other things. 00:36:26.82\00:36:28.80 You find the change happened in the 4th century, 00:36:28.83\00:36:31.09 atleast the beginning of the change. Right. 00:36:31.12\00:36:33.05 Ah, history will tell you 00:36:33.08\00:36:34.45 and you don't have to go too far 00:36:34.48\00:36:35.85 to actually look into this. Right. 00:36:35.88\00:36:37.25 But history will tell you that there was a time 00:36:37.28\00:36:39.19 where the Jews really fell out of favor in Rome. 00:36:39.22\00:36:41.92 Rome wanted to really separate 00:36:41.95\00:36:44.00 from any appearance whatsoever of the Jews. 00:36:44.03\00:36:47.10 They call it Judaizing. Yes. 00:36:47.13\00:36:48.87 And Constantine, who's in power now 00:36:48.90\00:36:51.91 starts to see that the Christians-- 00:36:51.94\00:36:54.28 you know what, there is something maybe 00:36:54.31\00:36:56.21 that I can agree with within Christianity, 00:36:56.24\00:36:58.24 but it was more from a sense of establishing his own power 00:36:58.27\00:37:02.72 and his ability throughout the kingdom the empire 00:37:02.75\00:37:05.66 that he was overseeing as emperor of Rome. 00:37:05.69\00:37:09.72 But what we have here is to separate now 00:37:09.75\00:37:12.85 from an appearance of Judaism which they also believed 00:37:12.88\00:37:16.83 was ritualistic, 00:37:16.86\00:37:19.85 very legalistic, burdensome. 00:37:19.88\00:37:26.14 They felt that if we could just change the day 00:37:26.17\00:37:29.17 and in fact what they did was they changed the day to the day 00:37:29.20\00:37:32.32 that we aleady as pagans worship. That is right. 00:37:32.35\00:37:36.50 Which is Sunday, look up the official 00:37:36.53\00:37:39.03 that the major day of the worship for pagans. 00:37:39.06\00:37:41.96 Pagans worship the ultimate God, 00:37:41.99\00:37:43.50 their supreme God is the Sun God. 00:37:43.53\00:37:45.81 It is Sunday in honor of him. 00:37:45.84\00:37:48.00 That is the day they were used to worshipping. 00:37:48.03\00:37:50.05 So they want to transition what was a very Jewish thing 00:37:50.08\00:37:53.06 they perceived to a pagan thing that they already observed. 00:37:53.09\00:37:56.82 And in doing so, it brought favor with the people 00:37:56.85\00:38:00.98 who then, when Constantine proclaimed himself Christian. 00:38:01.01\00:38:03.78 They assigned to Christianity itself. 00:38:03.81\00:38:05.82 That's how paganism began to merge in with Christianity. 00:38:05.85\00:38:09.13 In fact, and I have the very edict issued--Okay. 00:38:09.16\00:38:12.56 By Constantine himself in 321 A.D. Here's what it says. 00:38:12.59\00:38:17.72 "On the venerable day of the Sun let the magistrates and people 00:38:17.75\00:38:21.28 residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed. 00:38:21.31\00:38:26.36 In the country however persons engaged in agriculture 00:38:26.39\00:38:29.18 may freely and lawfully continue their pursuits because it often 00:38:29.21\00:38:32.10 happens that another day is not suitable for grain-sowing 00:38:32.13\00:38:35.33 or vine planting; lest by neglecting the proper moment 00:38:35.36\00:38:38.65 for such operations the bounty of heaven should be lost. 00:38:38.68\00:38:41.54 So here on the venerable day of the Sun that the magistrates 00:38:41.57\00:38:44.09 and the people reside in the cities rest." 00:38:44.12\00:38:47.14 You have here the first sign of legislated day of worship. 00:38:47.17\00:38:53.20 That's right, and it's called, 00:38:53.23\00:38:54.60 and I wanna say what John just said. 00:38:54.63\00:38:56.20 The venerable day of the Sun, 00:38:56.23\00:38:59.48 you wanna catch that "sun-day" worship. 00:38:59.51\00:39:03.05 Now we know the names of the days 00:39:03.08\00:39:05.20 were not assigned in the Bible. 00:39:05.23\00:39:06.94 But if you look throughout various cultures, 00:39:06.97\00:39:09.14 various language groups around the world, 00:39:09.17\00:39:11.19 you'll find the word for Sabbath is closely associated 00:39:11.22\00:39:15.33 with the original word in the Bible 00:39:15.36\00:39:17.08 and the Hebrew, Shabbat. That's right. 00:39:17.11\00:39:20.34 And you'll find clearly that it's, you know, Sabbatismos, 00:39:20.37\00:39:26.11 Sabbath you will find in the Syriac language. 00:39:26.14\00:39:29.34 They when the first of the week is called Sunday 00:39:29.37\00:39:32.65 in our language, but they call it one day into the Sabbath, 00:39:32.68\00:39:36.33 two day into the Sabbath, three days into the Sabbath, 00:39:36.36\00:39:39.19 four days into the Sabbath, five days into the Sabbath. 00:39:39.22\00:39:41.92 When they got to Friday they called it eve of the Sabbath. 00:39:41.95\00:39:45.77 And then when the Sabbath came they called it Shabbat-- 00:39:45.80\00:39:49.67 Sabath, the day of the Sabbath. 00:39:49.70\00:39:53.13 That was in the Syriac language, in the Persian language. 00:39:53.16\00:39:56.76 So when the Sabbath ended, right after the Sabbath 00:39:56.79\00:39:59.26 they called it one day, two day, three day, four day, five day 00:39:59.29\00:40:02.35 when they got to the sixth day 00:40:02.38\00:40:03.75 they called it eve of the Sabbath. 00:40:03.78\00:40:06.13 And when you go throughout all human history 00:40:06.16\00:40:07.76 you will be hard pressed to find any of the day 00:40:07.79\00:40:11.60 established as a day of worship other than that. 00:40:11.63\00:40:13.76 I wanna also read another quotation 00:40:13.79\00:40:15.68 because what we're pointing out here and, John, 00:40:15.71\00:40:17.49 very, very good point you made here. 00:40:17.52\00:40:19.42 The change was not done by God, by Jesus, 00:40:19.45\00:40:22.00 by the disciples or the apostles. 00:40:22.03\00:40:24.08 It wasn't done by the New Testament Christian Church, 00:40:24.11\00:40:26.08 it was done by Rome. 00:40:26.11\00:40:27.60 Pagan Rome, now Papal Rome partnered into bringing 00:40:27.63\00:40:32.86 into the Christian fellowship by persecution 00:40:32.89\00:40:36.47 and by the from 303 to 313 A.D. 00:40:36.50\00:40:41.15 Roman emperor Diocletian did all he could 00:40:41.18\00:40:43.20 to wipe out the Christian church. 00:40:43.23\00:40:45.70 But 321 A.D. Roman Emperor Constantine established 00:40:45.73\00:40:50.44 under his Christianity a new day of worship. 00:40:50.47\00:40:53.22 The venerable day of the Sun now being given to the Christians 00:40:53.25\00:40:58.31 and they began by feasting 00:40:58.34\00:40:59.72 and merry-making making of a light day. 00:40:59.75\00:41:01.99 And they made the Sabbath look like a burden 00:41:02.02\00:41:03.75 they called the Judaizing to make it look like 00:41:03.78\00:41:06.67 the Jews were the ones that were doing everything 00:41:06.70\00:41:09.37 that was burdensome and evil. 00:41:09.40\00:41:10.83 And that was the next counsel in 364 saying that Christians 00:41:10.86\00:41:14.38 must not Judaize by resting on the Sabbath 00:41:14.41\00:41:16.71 but must not work on that day or must to work, 00:41:16.74\00:41:19.91 excuse me, on that day. That's right. 00:41:19.94\00:41:21.68 So encouraging them to work. That's right. 00:41:21.71\00:41:23.82 On the Sabbath, but honoring the Lord's Day 00:41:23.85\00:41:26.77 which they said was now Sunday. 00:41:26.80\00:41:28.27 You know, John, I wish we had time to do this 00:41:28.30\00:41:29.75 and maybe you could check back with us on this, 00:41:29.78\00:41:31.71 but I have an entire presentation of the movement 00:41:31.74\00:41:34.25 of the first day, Sunday worship being pushed. 00:41:34.28\00:41:37.22 As in Croatia, and Germany, and England, 00:41:37.25\00:41:40.45 and various parts of the world, 00:41:40.48\00:41:41.92 the first day is it being established in a law setting. 00:41:41.95\00:41:46.74 What's the word legislatively being established as a day being 00:41:46.77\00:41:49.69 honored and recognized as a holy day. 00:41:49.72\00:41:52.21 And the Pope, this present Pope is saying, we must honor Sunday, 00:41:52.24\00:41:55.87 it is a matter of our salvation. 00:41:55.90\00:41:57.27 We must give our soul at Sunday give Sunday its soul. 00:41:57.30\00:42:00.68 Its amazing quotations, I don't have time to put it here, 00:42:00.71\00:42:02.70 but I do have all the information. 00:42:02.73\00:42:04.50 But here's another question, 00:42:04.53\00:42:06.25 speaking about the change of the day. 00:42:06.28\00:42:08.16 And by the way, as I read this I recognize that my family. 00:42:08.19\00:42:12.71 I once again, I say this ton of times, 00:42:12.74\00:42:14.30 but some of you may miss it. 00:42:14.33\00:42:15.87 My family is predominantly Catholic, 00:42:15.90\00:42:18.52 so I am not beating anybody up. 00:42:18.55\00:42:19.92 I love my family to the nth degree every single one of them. 00:42:19.95\00:42:23.82 But I cannot stand by and watch their hearts and their lives 00:42:23.85\00:42:27.45 be intentionally deceived by what their church admit 00:42:27.48\00:42:32.31 has no scriptural authority, 00:42:32.34\00:42:34.08 but rest solely on the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. 00:42:34.11\00:42:37.45 Yeah. That's what happened during the Dark Ages. 00:42:37.48\00:42:39.23 Let me go ahead and read this. 00:42:39.26\00:42:41.17 Notice the following section from a Catholic catechism. 00:42:41.20\00:42:44.57 And I will give you the reference 00:42:44.60\00:42:46.70 right here as we are done. 00:42:46.73\00:42:48.10 Matter of fact what we're going to do at this program is take 00:42:48.13\00:42:49.50 this and put in just this as the DVD 00:42:49.53\00:42:50.90 and add these quotation and scriptures to it and make it 00:42:50.93\00:42:53.20 available to the public, that's yet to come. 00:42:53.23\00:42:55.84 Have you any other way of proving that the church has 00:42:55.87\00:42:59.45 power to institute festivals of precept? 00:42:59.48\00:43:03.74 Answer, from the Catholic Church. 00:43:03.77\00:43:06.51 Had she not such power she could not have done that 00:43:06.54\00:43:10.49 in which all modern religionists agree with her. 00:43:10.52\00:43:16.06 That's churches, modern churches. 00:43:16.09\00:43:18.34 She could not have substituted the observance 00:43:18.37\00:43:21.93 of Sunday the first day of the week. 00:43:21.96\00:43:25.37 For the observance of Saturday the seventh day and get this. 00:43:25.40\00:43:30.94 A change for which there is no scriptural authority 00:43:30.97\00:43:36.51 and I am gonna just say this because 00:43:36.54\00:43:37.91 I am planning to do that--to do this. 00:43:37.94\00:43:39.97 You will see on the screen as we put the slides in later on. 00:43:40.00\00:43:43.13 You will see this reference actually show up 00:43:43.16\00:43:45.05 so you can trace it yourself. 00:43:45.08\00:43:46.86 You know, John, what I want to say to those listening 00:43:46.89\00:43:48.82 and watching the program. 00:43:48.85\00:43:50.81 We're not making this up. 00:43:50.84\00:43:52.26 No, this is factual. This is history. 00:43:52.29\00:43:55.84 I mean this is just as real as the nose on your face. 00:43:55.87\00:43:58.31 If you got the face, you got a nose. 00:43:58.34\00:44:01.21 You know, if you got a head, you got ears and eyes. 00:44:01.24\00:44:03.60 Now, this is just real 00:44:03.63\00:44:05.00 as the anatomical structure that we all possess. 00:44:05.03\00:44:08.59 If we were making this up we could be trouble makers, 00:44:08.62\00:44:10.47 but what we are trying to do is undo all the lies 00:44:10.50\00:44:12.76 and deception that Satan has taken 00:44:12.79\00:44:14.73 thousands of years to classically put together. 00:44:14.76\00:44:18.21 And, John, I want to say at this particular point. 00:44:18.24\00:44:20.07 I want to show how God knew. You wanna bring anything out 00:44:20.10\00:44:23.09 before we go to the next reference. 00:44:23.12\00:44:24.49 No, I just, you know, there's so many things 00:44:24.52\00:44:26.06 that references and quotes we could bring 00:44:26.09\00:44:28.49 you from Rome herself. Right. 00:44:28.52\00:44:31.76 In regard to the change and she is unabashedly 00:44:31.79\00:44:35.06 very clear, the change was not scriptural, 00:44:35.09\00:44:38.17 the change was a response what was a result of our authority. 00:44:38.20\00:44:43.02 In fact she says, Sunday is the mark of our authority. 00:44:43.05\00:44:46.37 Right. The church is above the Bible and this transference 00:44:46.40\00:44:50.61 of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact. 00:44:50.64\00:44:53.00 That comes from the Catholic record Lenin Ontario, 00:44:53.03\00:44:56.12 September 01, 1923. Right. 00:44:56.15\00:44:58.46 So even you're talking about 20th centuries they're saying 00:44:58.49\00:45:01.29 Sunday is the mark of our authority. 00:45:01.32\00:45:02.74 It's by virtue of the change shows that 00:45:02.77\00:45:05.73 we the church have authority of the Bible. 00:45:05.76\00:45:08.75 And elsewhere she actually says this. 00:45:08.78\00:45:12.06 And this is Rome. 00:45:12.09\00:45:13.46 "If Protestants would follow the Bible, 00:45:13.49\00:45:15.56 they should worship on--worship God on the Sabbath day. 00:45:15.59\00:45:19.37 In keeping Sunday 00:45:19.40\00:45:20.77 they're following a law of the Catholic Church." 00:45:20.80\00:45:24.95 You know, if our language here at all 00:45:24.98\00:45:28.31 sounds a little bit in protest. It is. 00:45:28.34\00:45:31.73 Because we are Protestants. Right. 00:45:31.76\00:45:33.79 We are still protesting the authority 00:45:33.82\00:45:37.81 that Rome claims. Right. 00:45:37.84\00:45:39.87 And that authority and its mark is Sabbath to Sunday, 00:45:39.90\00:45:44.96 The transference they claim to have made. That's right. 00:45:44.99\00:45:47.54 And so if that's their authority, of course we're going 00:45:47.57\00:45:50.51 to go after that in protest. That's right. 00:45:50.54\00:45:53.46 We are protesting that this is wrong 00:45:53.49\00:45:56.41 and Protestants there are many Protestant churches 00:45:56.44\00:45:58.47 that still call themselves Protestants, 00:45:58.50\00:45:59.87 but they are not anymore. No. 00:45:59.90\00:46:01.51 They're no longer protesting. The word is, yeah. 00:46:01.54\00:46:03.55 We want to say as Seventh-day Adventist ministries 00:46:03.58\00:46:05.29 we continue to protest. 00:46:05.32\00:46:06.69 We're continuing to remain Protestants 00:46:06.72\00:46:08.09 and true to our faith that when we see error we will reveal it. 00:46:08.12\00:46:12.32 That's right, the Protestant reformation was for that 00:46:12.35\00:46:14.56 very purpose when Martin Luther stood up there 00:46:14.59\00:46:17.52 and defended his faith 00:46:17.55\00:46:19.17 he, being a former monk of the Catholic Church, 00:46:19.20\00:46:24.45 found his hope in the Bible, that just shall live by faith 00:46:24.48\00:46:28.32 and he defended in his 95 thesis. 00:46:28.35\00:46:30.19 The 95 reasons why he reject the dogma 00:46:30.22\00:46:33.94 and the authority of the Roman Church. 00:46:33.97\00:46:36.47 And he stood up firmly to establish the foundation 00:46:36.50\00:46:39.21 on a thus saith the Lord, but today the Christian Church 00:46:39.24\00:46:41.91 has departed from what the word of God has said. 00:46:41.94\00:46:44.33 And tradition, and convenience, and financial motivation, 00:46:44.36\00:46:48.99 and modern conformity has watered down what God's word 00:46:49.02\00:46:54.54 has not removed as our obligation to serving 00:46:54.57\00:46:58.22 and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:46:58.25\00:47:00.16 Matter of fact we talk about this and its amazing John that 00:47:00.19\00:47:03.53 end prophecy and we want to point this out. 00:47:03.56\00:47:06.18 This is kind of where we wanted to connect. 00:47:06.21\00:47:07.63 We gonna wind up around this and then bring a text out 00:47:07.66\00:47:10.90 a very powerful text at the very end. 00:47:10.93\00:47:12.87 But in prophecy the Lord knew. See God is sovereign, He knows. 00:47:12.90\00:47:16.78 Remember, the commandment was 00:47:16.81\00:47:18.18 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy." 00:47:18.21\00:47:21.71 Right, so He knew somebody is gonna try to change it. 00:47:21.74\00:47:24.28 He as a matter of fact even pointed out 00:47:24.31\00:47:25.87 that it would be Rome. 00:47:25.90\00:47:27.31 There are only four kingdoms in human--in biblical prophecy. 00:47:27.34\00:47:31.51 Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome. 00:47:31.54\00:47:35.48 Rome was the fourth kingdom. 00:47:35.51\00:47:37.34 And in the book of Daniel the Lord said clearly. 00:47:37.37\00:47:39.79 Daniel 7:23, he says the fourth beast this is the fourth kingdom 00:47:39.82\00:47:47.44 because it makes it very clear. 00:47:47.47\00:47:48.84 This four beast or four kingdoms 00:47:48.87\00:47:50.24 that will arise out of the earth. 00:47:50.27\00:47:51.64 "The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on the earth 00:47:51.67\00:47:55.79 which shall be different from all other kingdoms, 00:47:55.82\00:47:58.46 shall devour the whole earth, 00:47:58.49\00:48:00.49 trample it and break it in pieces." 00:48:00.52\00:48:02.33 And the Roman power has done that today. 00:48:02.36\00:48:04.89 When you look at the Roman power when you look at 00:48:04.92\00:48:06.69 Roman Catholicism round the world. 00:48:06.72\00:48:08.09 The roman leader the Pontiff, the Pope is seen 00:48:08.12\00:48:10.69 as a political and religious leader. 00:48:10.72\00:48:13.10 He is different from all the others. 00:48:13.13\00:48:14.60 He is not just political like Babylon, Medo-Persia 00:48:14.63\00:48:17.27 and Greece was but he is religious. That's right. 00:48:17.30\00:48:20.13 But what did he do? Verse 25, 00:48:20.16\00:48:23.75 "He shall speak pompous words against the most high." 00:48:23.78\00:48:26.14 Don't have time to talk about all that right now-- 00:48:26.17\00:48:28.06 shall persecute the saints of the most high. 00:48:28.09\00:48:30.04 That was the Dark Ages for 1260 years. 00:48:30.07\00:48:32.23 More than 50 million Christians that 00:48:32.26\00:48:34.16 did not fall in line with Rome's dictates. 00:48:34.19\00:48:37.87 But this is something that God predicted he would do. 00:48:37.90\00:48:41.42 Verse 25, "He shall intend or think 00:48:41.45\00:48:44.77 to change times and laws." 00:48:44.80\00:48:47.37 And Rome has made that attempt, they changed laws. 00:48:47.40\00:48:50.20 The commandment that forbids image worship is removed 00:48:50.23\00:48:55.09 because they worship images and the commandment 00:48:55.12\00:48:57.58 that points at the Sabbath has moved it up 00:48:57.61\00:48:59.77 to the third and not the fourth commandments. 00:48:59.80\00:49:03.74 And the tenth commandment is split into two. 00:49:03.77\00:49:06.57 And all that the fourth commandment 00:49:06.60\00:49:07.97 says is remember to keep the Sabbath holy. 00:49:08.00\00:49:11.67 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:49:11.70\00:49:13.63 It removes what day it is. 00:49:13.66\00:49:15.90 It takes out if you look at that. 00:49:15.93\00:49:17.67 Go get a copy of the Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, 00:49:17.70\00:49:20.53 you'll see this is what it simply says, 00:49:20.56\00:49:21.94 remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:49:21.97\00:49:24.15 It doesn't tell you what day it is because 00:49:24.18\00:49:25.79 they by their own authority admit the change. 00:49:25.82\00:49:29.14 And, John, what amazed to me. 00:49:29.17\00:49:30.54 I will turn this back over to you before we wind up. 00:49:30.57\00:49:34.07 Comments from churches of other authorities and denominations. 00:49:34.10\00:49:37.03 You have the Pentecostals, Presbyterians, 00:49:37.06\00:49:40.39 a Moody Bible institute, the Methodists, the Lutherans, 00:49:40.42\00:49:42.69 the Episcopals, the Congregationalists, 00:49:42.72\00:49:44.21 the church of Christ, the Catholic Church 00:49:44.24\00:49:45.64 and the Baptist church in their manuals 00:49:45.67\00:49:48.04 all admit that they know. 00:49:48.07\00:49:50.07 Their leadership, their manuals all admit that we recognize that 00:49:50.10\00:49:53.45 there is no scriptural authority 00:49:53.48\00:49:54.85 for the honor of the first day of the week. 00:49:54.88\00:49:57.41 So whose authority are we honoring? 00:49:57.44\00:50:00.47 When we refused to honor God's authority and choose tradition 00:50:00.50\00:50:05.44 and convenience over what God says. 00:50:05.47\00:50:09.06 Whose authority are we honoring? 00:50:09.09\00:50:10.46 Well, there's only two authorities. 00:50:10.49\00:50:12.72 So I don't--I would not want to be politically correct. 00:50:12.75\00:50:17.21 But if you are not into God's authority 00:50:17.24\00:50:18.61 you're under an another authority-- 00:50:18.64\00:50:20.01 That's right. And that's the enemies. 00:50:20.04\00:50:21.41 And now, we're not saying because 00:50:21.44\00:50:23.48 we have referred to this before too. Exactly 00:50:23.51\00:50:25.12 The last messages the Three Angels messages 00:50:25.15\00:50:27.29 from Revelation 14. 00:50:27.32\00:50:28.69 We've read from that is going to grow 00:50:28.72\00:50:30.09 to a point where Revelation 18. 00:50:30.12\00:50:32.24 You see another angel joining them who says 00:50:32.27\00:50:35.76 come out of her my people. That's right. 00:50:35.79\00:50:39.50 So we're talking about systems here, 00:50:39.53\00:50:41.81 we're not talking about people. Very important. 00:50:41.84\00:50:43.68 We're not talking about Catholics. 00:50:43.71\00:50:45.08 We're talking about the system of Rome. That's right. 00:50:45.11\00:50:47.82 And there are many Catholics, and Protestants, 00:50:47.85\00:50:50.04 and Presbyterians, and Baptists 00:50:50.07\00:50:51.54 and all these that are God's people today. 00:50:51.57\00:50:54.65 We're talking to you and part of the message 00:50:54.68\00:50:56.78 is from God's work come out of her my people. That's right. 00:50:56.81\00:51:01.18 You know, someone would say while you would just 00:51:01.21\00:51:02.58 want to me join my-- join your church. 00:51:02.61\00:51:04.49 Yeah, we want you to come into the truth. 00:51:04.52\00:51:07.55 That's right. And follow God with all your heart. 00:51:07.58\00:51:09.84 I mean, our honest plea to you we're not sharing this 00:51:09.87\00:51:12.18 information just to say that we're right and you're wrong. 00:51:12.21\00:51:14.76 That's not the case we are trying to share 00:51:14.79\00:51:16.16 what the Bible says, so that you can hear 00:51:16.19\00:51:17.68 and respond to God's call 00:51:17.71\00:51:19.12 to come out of the false system Babylon, 00:51:19.15\00:51:22.21 in fact we did a whole recent two programs 00:51:22.24\00:51:27.02 on spiritual Babylon. That's right. 00:51:27.05\00:51:29.43 And that is the system that the message 00:51:29.46\00:51:31.12 is going to all God's people in that system 00:51:31.15\00:51:33.58 that is still there to come out 00:51:33.61\00:51:35.37 just as it was during Babylon where the Israelites, 00:51:35.40\00:51:39.48 the southern kingdom, the nation of Judah were taken in captive 00:51:39.51\00:51:44.38 by Nebuchadnezzar and his army, 00:51:44.41\00:51:46.33 and were held captive for seventy years plus. 00:51:46.36\00:51:50.03 And then God called them out and back to Jerusalem to rebuild 00:51:50.06\00:51:54.01 what was set at waste. 00:51:54.04\00:51:56.19 Now, spiritually that's happening. 00:51:56.22\00:51:58.56 The waste places are going to be rebuilt as God's people 00:51:58.59\00:52:01.18 are coming out of Babylon and then before Christ return 00:52:01.21\00:52:04.92 God will restore that remnant, that people that come together 00:52:04.95\00:52:08.13 to worship Him. That's right. 00:52:08.16\00:52:09.53 And it will be on the foundation that last test is going 00:52:09.56\00:52:12.55 to be on whether or not you will honor God's commandments 00:52:12.58\00:52:17.24 and you will see that in Revelation throughout. 00:52:17.27\00:52:19.79 That the saints are the ones that keep the commandments 00:52:19.82\00:52:22.01 of God that the devil wars against those who keep 00:52:22.04\00:52:25.62 the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus. 00:52:25.65\00:52:29.35 Over and over again it's against that people, 00:52:29.38\00:52:31.53 the commandment keeping of God. 00:52:31.56\00:52:33.29 You know, I want to make this before I wind these points, 00:52:33.32\00:52:35.24 so we have to condense them but I want you to do the research. 00:52:35.27\00:52:37.49 Do your homework--do your homework. 00:52:37.52\00:52:41.19 There the ceremonial Sabbaths were nailed to the cross. 00:52:41.22\00:52:45.85 Colossians 2:15, Colossians 2:16, Ephesians 2:15, 00:52:45.88\00:52:50.70 the ceremonial Sabbaths and you will find the reference 00:52:50.73\00:52:53.23 to the ceremonial Sabbath 00:52:53.26\00:52:54.63 in Leviticus 23 from verse 4 on down. 00:52:54.66\00:52:58.07 Which was the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, 00:52:58.10\00:53:01.05 the Feast of First Fruits, the Feast of Pentecost, 00:53:01.08\00:53:03.77 the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, 00:53:03.80\00:53:05.41 the Feast of Tabernacles. 00:53:05.44\00:53:06.94 These were all the appointed the table -- 00:53:06.97\00:53:09.55 all these were appointed feast pointing to Christ. 00:53:09.58\00:53:12.46 And when He came He nailed those Sabbaths to the cross, 00:53:12.49\00:53:17.76 small ceremonial Sabbaths. 00:53:17.79\00:53:19.95 But religious leaders bunched them together and nailed 00:53:19.98\00:53:23.23 the whole thing to the cross. Yeah. 00:53:23.26\00:53:24.82 That's not what the Bible does, because remember 00:53:24.85\00:53:26.36 the Bible Sabbath, the weekly Sabbath 00:53:26.39\00:53:28.58 was established before sin entered the world. 00:53:28.61\00:53:31.55 There was no need to get rid of something 00:53:31.58\00:53:32.95 that was perfect anymore than 00:53:32.98\00:53:34.35 there is a need to get rid of marriage. 00:53:34.38\00:53:35.75 Not only that, God refers 00:53:35.78\00:53:37.39 to the seventh day Sabbath as His day. That's right. 00:53:37.42\00:53:40.06 And He refers to the Sabbaths that are these 00:53:40.09\00:53:42.08 ceremonial Sabbaths as belonging to the people. 00:53:42.11\00:53:44.69 That's right. They're the ones that Sabbaths 00:53:44.72\00:53:46.82 that belonged to the people his day, 00:53:46.85\00:53:49.13 the only day he has is the seventh day. 00:53:49.16\00:53:52.44 So you can't bunch those together because 00:53:52.47\00:53:54.28 one belongs to him, one belongs to the people, 00:53:54.31\00:53:57.68 and we find that consistently throughout 00:53:57.71\00:53:59.12 the Old Testament as well. 00:53:59.15\00:54:00.52 And here is the condemnation to leaders today. 00:54:00.55\00:54:02.78 Ezekiel 20:26, "Her priests have violated my law, 00:54:02.81\00:54:08.21 and have profaned mine holy things, 00:54:08.24\00:54:10.93 they have put no difference between the holy 00:54:10.96\00:54:13.08 and the profane, neither have they showed difference 00:54:13.11\00:54:16.09 between the unclean and the clean, 00:54:16.12\00:54:18.57 and they have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, 00:54:18.60\00:54:21.31 and I am profaned among them. 00:54:21.34\00:54:23.46 Among the leaders, the people God wants to rescue them. 00:54:23.49\00:54:26.68 But any leader that teaches 00:54:26.71\00:54:28.08 that God's Sabbath is nailed to the cross. 00:54:28.11\00:54:29.88 Ezekiel 22:26 says, "God has profaned among them." 00:54:29.91\00:54:33.79 He is not speaking through those who say that he did away 00:54:33.82\00:54:36.49 with something that he did not do away with. 00:54:36.52\00:54:39.13 In Exodus, in Isaiah 66:23, 22 and 23 it says 00:54:39.16\00:54:44.40 "For as the new heavens and the new earth which 00:54:44.43\00:54:46.55 I will make shall remain before me it says the Lord. 00:54:46.58\00:54:49.79 So shall your dissidence and your name remain 00:54:49.82\00:54:52.60 and it shall come to past that from one new moon to another 00:54:52.63\00:54:55.78 and from one Sabbath to another all flesh shall come 00:54:55.81\00:54:59.12 and worship before me it says the Lord." 00:54:59.15\00:55:01.78 John, the Sabbath will be kept in heaven. 00:55:01.81\00:55:03.78 Now get this creation, it was kept. 00:55:03.81\00:55:06.73 Old Testament, it was kept. It was kept by Jesus. 00:55:06.76\00:55:08.70 It was kept by the disciples. It was kept by the apostles. 00:55:08.73\00:55:11.05 It was kept by the New Testament Church. 00:55:11.08\00:55:12.65 It was kept by Christians who were persecuted by Rome. 00:55:12.68\00:55:15.94 It's been kept by God's true people today on the earth. 00:55:15.97\00:55:18.53 It will be kept in the new heavens. 00:55:18.56\00:55:20.40 Why is that the Christians are being taught 00:55:20.43\00:55:22.07 that it doesn't matter today. 00:55:22.10\00:55:24.78 And I want you to read this last text, Acts 5:29. 00:55:24.81\00:55:27.93 This is the deciding issue right here. 00:55:27.96\00:55:30.94 When man says one thing and God says another. 00:55:30.97\00:55:34.30 I want to have, John, read this text. 00:55:34.33\00:55:36.15 Very powerful passage. 00:55:36.18\00:55:37.70 Its not legalistic, it does matter. 00:55:37.73\00:55:40.22 It's not for the Jews alone. 00:55:40.25\00:55:41.89 It's a sing of God's love for us and our love for Him. 00:55:41.92\00:55:45.05 The Sabbath is the Lord's Day. 00:55:45.08\00:55:46.45 It was not changed by any earthly power 00:55:46.48\00:55:48.08 nor by any heavenly power. 00:55:48.11\00:55:50.09 What must we do, John, when we are lapped between 00:55:50.12\00:55:52.83 what our pastors say and what God's word says. 00:55:52.86\00:55:56.44 It's says, "Then Peter and the other apostles answered 00:55:56.47\00:55:58.86 and said, we ought to obey God rather than men." 00:55:58.89\00:56:04.21 So now let's go back to the haulage. 00:56:04.24\00:56:05.72 We have to obey God rather than man. 00:56:05.75\00:56:07.60 So what did the Lord say what did God the Creator, 00:56:07.63\00:56:11.46 our Redeemer, our soon coming King, 00:56:11.49\00:56:14.15 the one who shredded His blood to save us, 00:56:14.18\00:56:16.12 the one whose body was broken. 00:56:16.15\00:56:17.58 What did he say in reference to the Sabbath? 00:56:17.61\00:56:20.40 Remember, the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:56:20.43\00:56:25.59 Brothers and sisters does it matter? 00:56:25.62\00:56:28.51 If truth matters, if the Lord you love matters. 00:56:28.54\00:56:32.77 If the word of God matters, if your salvation matters, 00:56:32.80\00:56:36.60 let us not make any exception on the fourth. 00:56:36.63\00:56:40.59 When we chose not to make any exception on the other nine, 00:56:40.62\00:56:43.22 they're all one. All one in Christ. 00:56:43.25\00:56:45.96 We ought to obey God rather than man. 00:56:45.99\00:56:50.11 When the world says forget.
