Exactly. 00:01:52.81\00:01:54.43 So we're now fishers of men, 00:01:54.44\00:01:56.34 and you know, there are those of you 00:01:56.35\00:01:58.15 who are watching the program and listening today, 00:01:58.16\00:01:59.69 you always send your Bible questions in 00:01:59.70\00:02:01.84 and we always begin our program with Bible questions. 00:02:01.85\00:02:04.64 And if there's something that comes to your mind 00:02:04.65\00:02:06.75 that you want to sent to us, 00:02:06.76\00:02:08.01 you can send those to the email on the screen. 00:02:08.02\00:02:10.45 housecalls@3abn.org, that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:02:10.46\00:02:15.51 Then we go to the website and download those emails 00:02:15.52\00:02:17.90 and try our best to get to them. 00:02:17.91\00:02:19.52 If we don't get to them today, don't lose courage, 00:02:19.53\00:02:22.29 continue to send them. But those of you, 00:02:22.30\00:02:23.78 who don't have computers, the address is, House Calls, 00:02:23.79\00:02:27.57 well actually 3ABN, P. O. Box 220, 00:02:27.58\00:02:31.35 West Frankfurt, Illinois, 62896. 00:02:31.36\00:02:34.33 And we do answer snail mail 00:02:34.34\00:02:36.42 even in this highly technological, 00:02:36.43\00:02:40.05 that's a big word, technological generation. 00:02:40.06\00:02:42.44 We still answer emails. Good. 00:02:42.45\00:02:45.11 And snail mails. 00:02:45.12\00:02:46.13 Well since you're my guest today. 00:02:47.17\00:02:48.34 I want to go ahead and have you pitch our first question 00:02:48.35\00:02:50.86 and what do we have for all. 00:02:50.87\00:02:52.24 Well this question comes from Randy Hunt. 00:02:52.25\00:02:54.70 Okay. And he's asking a question 00:02:54.71\00:02:56.41 about First John Chapter 3. Okay. 00:02:56.42\00:02:59.19 And that Chapter is found toward the Book of Revelation 00:02:59.20\00:03:02.57 which happens to be my favorite Book of the Bible. 00:03:02.58\00:03:04.57 So I thought this would be a good question to bring up 00:03:04.58\00:03:06.73 because it's really close to Revelation. 00:03:06.74\00:03:09.11 First John Chapter 3 and here is Randy Hunt's question. 00:03:09.12\00:03:13.50 "Hi, gentlemen, I cannot understand 00:03:13.51\00:03:15.33 how to reconcile this Chapter, First John Chapter 3 00:03:15.34\00:03:19.57 with the rest of scripture 00:03:19.58\00:03:21.21 in regard to the severity of sin in this Chapter. 00:03:21.22\00:03:25.22 It looks here that, any, like any sin is evidence 00:03:25.23\00:03:28.90 that you do not have the Holy Spirit in you. 00:03:28.91\00:03:31.45 Please help me to understand, Randy Hunt." 00:03:31.46\00:03:35.41 And I wonder what verse in particular is he referring to? 00:03:35.42\00:03:38.31 I think he's talking, yeah, but he, 00:03:38.32\00:03:40.40 I think primarily Randy is referring 00:03:40.41\00:03:42.46 to First John Chapter 3 and verse 9 00:03:42.47\00:03:44.81 and I'll read that verse. Okay. 00:03:44.82\00:03:46.48 It says, "Whoever is born of God" 00:03:46.49\00:03:48.69 and that's of course born of the Holy Spirit, 00:03:48.70\00:03:51.06 "does not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him; 00:03:51.07\00:03:55.18 and he cannot sin because he is born of God." 00:03:55.19\00:03:58.12 So Randy's question is, it looks here as though 00:03:58.13\00:04:01.86 any sin is evidence that 00:04:01.87\00:04:02.95 you do not have the Holy Spirit in you. 00:04:02.96\00:04:04.74 If any man's born of God, he doesn't commit sin. 00:04:04.75\00:04:07.28 If he commits sin, yes, he doesn't remain in Him. 00:04:07.29\00:04:10.14 Pretty tough question, isn't it? 00:04:10.15\00:04:11.59 Yes, it's on the surface it sounds that way 00:04:11.60\00:04:14.58 but I know you have an answer for it. 00:04:14.59\00:04:16.23 Well the context of First John is really powerful. 00:04:16.24\00:04:19.47 First John Chapter 3 in context is speaking 00:04:19.48\00:04:22.93 about behold in love of God. 00:04:22.94\00:04:24.54 First John Chapter 3 verse 1, 00:04:24.55\00:04:26.60 "Behold, what manner of love 00:04:26.61\00:04:27.93 the Father hath bestowed upon us, 00:04:27.94\00:04:29.56 that we should be called the sons of God, 00:04:29.57\00:04:31.69 therefore the world knoweth us not, 00:04:31.70\00:04:33.51 because it knew him not." 00:04:33.52\00:04:35.14 In other words the context of this Chapter is speaking 00:04:35.15\00:04:38.12 about the born-again experience those who see 00:04:38.13\00:04:41.05 and fall in love with the heart of God. 00:04:41.06\00:04:43.71 Those who are filled with the love of Christ 00:04:43.72\00:04:46.15 and no longer live according to the world, 00:04:46.16\00:04:48.62 but they're now following Jesus. 00:04:48.63\00:04:50.32 They're living now according to this new life 00:04:50.33\00:04:52.93 that they have in Jesus Christ. 00:04:52.94\00:04:54.69 And then in verse 4 and I'm just skipping through, 00:04:54.70\00:04:57.12 just giving an outline here 00:04:57.13\00:04:58.17 and verse 4 talks about the definition of sin. 00:04:58.18\00:05:02.11 It says, "Whoever commit sin transgresses also the law, 00:05:02.12\00:05:07.29 for sin is the transgression of the law." 00:05:07.30\00:05:10.32 Jesus said it this way in John Chapter 14 and verse 15, 00:05:10.33\00:05:14.32 He says, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." 00:05:14.33\00:05:18.68 So the love of God 00:05:18.69\00:05:20.75 compels us to keep the commandments of God. 00:05:20.76\00:05:23.45 And according to First John Chapter 3 and verse 4, 00:05:23.46\00:05:26.25 sin is transgression of the law, 00:05:26.26\00:05:28.56 sin is transgression of the commandments of God. 00:05:28.57\00:05:31.66 Now in that context, you read verse 9, 00:05:31.67\00:05:34.70 whoever is born of God, 00:05:34.71\00:05:36.41 whoever is fall in love with God 00:05:36.42\00:05:37.83 and has turned away from walking with the world 00:05:37.84\00:05:40.16 and now he's walking after Jesus does not commit sin, 00:05:40.17\00:05:43.32 doesn't continue to transgress the law of God. 00:05:43.33\00:05:46.66 Because His, God seed remains in him and he cannot sin. 00:05:46.67\00:05:50.14 He cannot violate, he cannot steal, 00:05:50.15\00:05:52.10 he cannot lie, he cannot bear false witness, 00:05:52.11\00:05:54.72 he can't break the Sabbath, 00:05:54.73\00:05:55.89 he can't have other idols before him, 00:05:55.90\00:05:57.31 because he's fall in love with God. 00:05:57.32\00:05:59.42 He's turned away from the world. 00:05:59.43\00:06:01.25 He is given his heart to Jesus and he's a new creature. 00:06:01.26\00:06:04.65 It does not mean, however John, 00:06:04.66\00:06:06.67 it does not mean that we don't fail, 00:06:06.68\00:06:09.03 we don't fall short in the context of this. 00:06:09.04\00:06:11.72 We have First John Chapter 2, it says, 00:06:11.73\00:06:13.78 "If we sin, we have an advocate with the Father, 00:06:13.79\00:06:16.11 Jesus Christ the righteous." That's right. 00:06:16.12\00:06:17.68 The context of this is telling us 00:06:17.69\00:06:18.88 that we're living a new life. 00:06:18.89\00:06:20.26 That we see the principles of God's law 00:06:20.27\00:06:21.93 and we follow those principles. 00:06:21.94\00:06:23.56 But it's not telling us that we're flawless, 00:06:23.57\00:06:25.28 that we're perfect, that we're never going to fall 00:06:25.29\00:06:27.78 or need our advocate to intercede on our behalf again. 00:06:27.79\00:06:30.71 That's right, that's right. 00:06:30.72\00:06:31.72 As a matter of fact, if we look at verse 10, 00:06:31.73\00:06:33.38 this is a significant, I'm reading 00:06:33.39\00:06:35.75 the New King James version. 00:06:35.76\00:06:36.75 I think we both have one transit, we both have both, 00:06:36.76\00:06:38.93 King James and New King James. Yes. 00:06:38.94\00:06:40.34 So we balance it out together. 00:06:40.35\00:06:42.05 If we look at the verse 10 in the New King James version, 00:06:42.06\00:06:45.54 it says, "In this the children of God 00:06:45.55\00:06:49.70 and the children of the devil are manifest, 00:06:49.71\00:06:52.26 Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, 00:06:52.27\00:06:57.22 nor is he who does not love his brother." 00:06:57.23\00:07:00.09 The suggestion here, or not the suggestion 00:07:00.10\00:07:02.50 but the context of that is practicing. 00:07:02.51\00:07:06.51 Isaiah 1 verse 16 to 18 says to us, 00:07:06.52\00:07:09.93 "Cease to do evil, learn to do good or learn to do well." 00:07:09.94\00:07:13.76 When a person comes into a relationship with Christ, 00:07:13.77\00:07:17.85 their practice is different, you know. 00:07:17.86\00:07:19.77 Yes. You never go to a doctor 00:07:19.78\00:07:20.78 that has ceased to practice. 00:07:20.79\00:07:22.71 If a doctor says, you know after 30 years 00:07:22.72\00:07:25.23 he still has a practice. 00:07:25.24\00:07:26.87 He still continues to renew the information 00:07:26.88\00:07:30.99 that's in the medical world, he's continuing to practice. 00:07:31.00\00:07:36.31 Baseball players, basketball players, 00:07:36.32\00:07:38.12 they have practice. And so in the very same way, 00:07:38.13\00:07:41.05 the Christian has to practice. 00:07:41.06\00:07:43.37 He practices righteousness. Right. 00:07:43.38\00:07:46.06 Paul talked about that practice 00:07:46.07\00:07:47.34 when he says, "Follow me or emulate me 00:07:47.35\00:07:50.90 or pattern your life after me only as I follow Christ." 00:07:50.91\00:07:54.93 and so what's happening here is 00:07:54.94\00:07:56.35 what's being suggested by John the apostle is 00:07:56.36\00:07:59.51 what do you practice? 00:07:59.52\00:08:01.17 If you're practicing the things of the world, 00:08:01.18\00:08:02.86 you cannot be filled by the Spirit of God. 00:08:02.87\00:08:06.91 If you're practicing unrighteousness, 00:08:06.92\00:08:09.28 how can you say that the seed of God is in you. 00:08:09.29\00:08:12.09 Because an orange tree will never produce an apple, 00:08:12.10\00:08:15.33 because the seed 00:08:15.34\00:08:16.40 cannot let it. Amen. 00:08:16.41\00:08:17.92 If an apple shows up on an orange tree, 00:08:17.93\00:08:19.75 somebody says, "Wait a minute! Has this tree, 00:08:19.76\00:08:21.99 has this branch been grafted into this tree?" 00:08:22.00\00:08:25.19 the fruit has to be subordinate to the seed. 00:08:25.20\00:08:29.37 And so what's being said here 00:08:29.38\00:08:30.42 about the seed of God remaining in us, 00:08:30.43\00:08:32.26 he says if you're practicing worldliness 00:08:32.27\00:08:35.21 I don't believe the seed of God is in you. 00:08:35.22\00:08:37.52 Because the seed of God is not going to make you 00:08:37.53\00:08:39.97 practice unrighteousness. Amen. 00:08:39.98\00:08:41.91 So this is what's happening here is not, 00:08:41.92\00:08:43.43 and I, and I thank you for saying that. 00:08:43.44\00:08:45.32 It's not saying that we're perfect. 00:08:45.33\00:08:48.09 Jude verse 24 says, "Unto him that is able to keep you 00:08:48.10\00:08:50.97 from falling." Amen. 00:08:50.98\00:08:52.36 But in this world if you sin 00:08:52.37\00:08:54.48 which before we get rid of this mortal flesh, 00:08:54.49\00:08:58.01 they're gonna be a lot of battles. 00:08:58.02\00:08:59.87 But the beauty of that is dying daily, 00:08:59.88\00:09:01.84 so that we could be strong in Christ. 00:09:01.85\00:09:03.60 So that's what John, in essence saying here, 00:09:03.61\00:09:05.41 he says, "I'm gonna be examining your seed" 00:09:05.42\00:09:07.94 and James, one thing that comes to mind as a pastor, 00:09:07.95\00:09:11.25 you know people say, "Don't judge me?" 00:09:11.26\00:09:15.14 Well there is an entire book called "Judges" 00:09:15.15\00:09:18.35 and then Paul the Apostle says, "Wait a minute, 00:09:18.36\00:09:20.30 don't you know that one day we're gonna judge angels" 00:09:20.31\00:09:22.69 and if we gonna judge angels, 00:09:22.70\00:09:24.50 can't we judge men in smaller matters, 00:09:24.51\00:09:27.53 but it's not condemning. So John is saying here, 00:09:27.54\00:09:31.98 don't condemn a person, but make sure that 00:09:31.99\00:09:35.04 as they practice, they're practicing righteousness. 00:09:35.05\00:09:37.39 And when they do practice righteousness, 00:09:37.40\00:09:38.83 we know that the seed of Christ remains in them. 00:09:38.84\00:09:41.60 And if the seed is there, 00:09:41.61\00:09:42.63 you get oranges on an orange tree, 00:09:42.64\00:09:44.78 if it's an apple tree you get apples. 00:09:44.79\00:09:46.47 Amen. But a good tree 00:09:46.48\00:09:48.17 cannot produce bad fruit 00:09:48.18\00:09:49.86 and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. 00:09:49.87\00:09:51.91 So this is about the Christian walk. 00:09:51.92\00:09:53.85 And that's why he begins by saying 00:09:53.86\00:09:56.55 the law of the God is bestowed upon us, 00:09:56.56\00:09:58.45 that we should be called the children of God. 00:09:58.46\00:10:00.19 How can we be, why's that love so great 00:10:00.20\00:10:03.50 unless we need the Father's love? 00:10:03.51\00:10:06.54 What do you have to add to that? 00:10:06.55\00:10:07.59 I was gonna say that too. 00:10:07.60\00:10:08.94 We mentioned this, this was mentioned 00:10:08.95\00:10:10.72 but again the Chapters of these letters, 00:10:10.73\00:10:14.07 these books were never there when they were first written, 00:10:14.08\00:10:16.67 they were written just in a consecutive style. 00:10:16.68\00:10:19.23 Exactly. One after the other. 00:10:19.24\00:10:20.38 So the immediate context, 00:10:20.39\00:10:22.18 we talk about the immediate context of the Chapter 00:10:22.19\00:10:24.41 and what we mean by that is not just the Chapter, 00:10:24.42\00:10:26.77 but the entire letter. 00:10:26.78\00:10:28.38 And immediate context of this writing 00:10:28.39\00:10:30.41 is First John Chapter 1 verse 10, 00:10:30.42\00:10:35.36 if we say that we have not sinned, 00:10:35.37\00:10:37.63 we make him a liar and his word is not in us. 00:10:37.64\00:10:40.45 There is a tension in truth just like a battery. 00:10:40.46\00:10:42.70 It has a positive, and it has a negative. 00:10:42.71\00:10:44.62 There is a tension in truth 00:10:44.63\00:10:45.94 and if you unhook the negative from your battery 00:10:45.95\00:10:48.12 or the positive and leave the other hooked, it won't work. 00:10:48.13\00:10:50.95 The battery will not function. That's right. 00:10:50.96\00:10:52.66 And it's the same with the word of God. 00:10:52.67\00:10:54.03 The word of God is so beautiful 00:10:54.04\00:10:55.24 and so balance between justice and mercy. 00:10:55.25\00:10:57.83 So God is, first of all John is introducing 00:10:57.84\00:11:02.15 the Gospel of Jesus Christ before you get to First John 3 00:11:02.16\00:11:05.09 you get to First John Chapter 1 00:11:05.10\00:11:06.38 and First John Chapter 2 00:11:06.39\00:11:08.02 and these verses clearly indicate 00:11:08.03\00:11:09.85 that if we'll just confess our sins 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.54 and if we say we haven't sinned, we make him a liar 00:11:11.55\00:11:14.49 and His truth isn't us and if we do sin, 00:11:14.50\00:11:16.98 if we sin we have an advocate with the Father and not, 00:11:16.99\00:11:20.31 he's not only our advocate but he is a propitiation, 00:11:20.32\00:11:22.95 he's a sacrifice for the entire world. 00:11:22.96\00:11:25.22 And then as he flows out that into the next context, 00:11:25.23\00:11:27.61 he's saying now, remember, sin is transgression of the law 00:11:27.62\00:11:30.61 and if you're born again, 00:11:30.62\00:11:31.72 you don't continue to live a lifestyle 00:11:31.73\00:11:34.07 that is in transgression to the law of God. 00:11:34.08\00:11:35.81 That's right. He who abides in him ought, 00:11:35.82\00:11:38.47 himself also to walk as Jesus walked. 00:11:38.48\00:11:40.97 Amen. So it's all about our walk 00:11:40.98\00:11:42.61 and now remember 00:11:42.62\00:11:44.08 the walk is not the end of the destination, 00:11:44.09\00:11:45.65 the walk is the process in the destination, 00:11:45.66\00:11:48.30 moving in the direction of the character of Christ. 00:11:48.31\00:11:51.68 Thank you for that. Amen. 00:11:51.69\00:11:53.43 We have another question here. Margery, 00:11:53.44\00:11:56.76 wow! from Perth, 00:11:56.77\00:11:59.32 Western Australia. It's right there. 00:11:59.33\00:12:01.55 That's a long way. I hope you are awake 00:12:01.56\00:12:06.11 because this question is to respond, 00:12:06.12\00:12:09.98 this answer is to respond to your question. 00:12:09.99\00:12:11.90 He says, "While watching House Calls, 00:12:11.91\00:12:13.47 a few weeks ago, someone asked a question. 00:12:13.48\00:12:16.61 Who do we pray to? 00:12:16.62\00:12:19.20 You had a great answer from the Bible. 00:12:19.21\00:12:21.11 We pray to the Father in the name of a Son, 00:12:21.12\00:12:23.41 in the power of Holy Spirit. 00:12:23.42\00:12:25.17 I wasn't quick enough to get the text. 00:12:25.18\00:12:26.91 You quoted to support the answer. 00:12:26.92\00:12:29.45 Is it possible that you can email these to me 00:12:29.46\00:12:32.27 so I can share them with others 00:12:32.28\00:12:34.32 asking the same question?" What we're gonna do, 00:12:34.33\00:12:36.55 we'll not only email them 00:12:36.56\00:12:37.78 we're gonna also respond to them. 00:12:37.79\00:12:39.84 A prayer is a powerful medium, prayer is, 00:12:39.85\00:12:43.27 well let me put the story together. 00:12:43.28\00:12:45.53 I don't know if anybody could live without a cell phone. 00:12:45.54\00:12:48.76 At least I don't know if any adults without cell phones. 00:12:48.77\00:12:52.15 There is a-- Maybe you're gonna change that 00:12:52.16\00:12:53.50 I don't know of any teenagers without cell phones. 00:12:53.51\00:12:56.27 It's just the another girl. 00:12:56.28\00:12:57.56 I mean we are living in a world that's so connected. 00:12:57.57\00:13:00.34 It's funny we call this, what's the term social media. 00:13:00.35\00:13:04.95 Well, one person once said, 00:13:04.96\00:13:06.68 recently on a talk show he says, 00:13:06.69\00:13:08.48 this is the most dysfunctional social media generation. 00:13:08.49\00:13:13.94 Because I have seen, 00:13:13.95\00:13:15.05 it happened in my office, James. 00:13:15.06\00:13:17.10 Two young people sat together on the couch, 00:13:17.11\00:13:20.83 instead of turning and looking at each other, 00:13:20.84\00:13:22.45 they're texting back and forth Each other. 00:13:22.46\00:13:24.49 Each other. And what blew me away is 00:13:24.50\00:13:28.39 one said that did you get that text? 00:13:28.40\00:13:31.70 Yeah I got it. Did you get my answer? 00:13:31.71\00:13:33.40 I'm thinking just turn 00:13:33.41\00:13:34.72 and look at each other and communicate. 00:13:34.73\00:13:37.01 Amazing. It's amazing. 00:13:37.02\00:13:38.89 The Lord has established prayer 00:13:38.90\00:13:41.80 not for us to text Him but to communicate. 00:13:41.81\00:13:45.09 And one of the desires that Moses had 00:13:45.10\00:13:47.95 was to see the Lord's face 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.86 and he said, well I, you know, 00:13:49.87\00:13:51.26 if that happens you're not gonna live, 00:13:51.27\00:13:53.13 so I tell you what, you hide in the cliff to the rock 00:13:53.14\00:13:55.14 and I'll pass by, and when I pass by, just glimpse 00:13:55.15\00:13:58.61 and that glimpse was so powerful 00:13:58.62\00:14:00.32 that when Moses came down from the mountain, 00:14:00.33\00:14:03.05 his face had to be veiled. 00:14:03.06\00:14:05.57 But the way that we can come before the Father 00:14:05.58\00:14:08.45 and still not be consumed is through prayer. 00:14:08.46\00:14:12.68 And so I want to point out a few passages in the Bible, 00:14:12.69\00:14:15.88 some of those related to disciples asking Jesus, 00:14:15.89\00:14:18.74 "Would you teach us how to pray?" 00:14:18.75\00:14:20.94 and let's go to Luke 11 and verse 2 00:14:20.95\00:14:23.52 for one of the examples. 00:14:23.53\00:14:26.87 Jesus wasn't making this pray--and in some dominations 00:14:26.88\00:14:30.92 people just repeat these prayers 00:14:30.93\00:14:32.94 though this is the prayer, 00:14:32.95\00:14:35.06 this is a blue print of the prayer. 00:14:35.07\00:14:37.08 You know, some people say repeat after me, 00:14:37.09\00:14:38.66 our Father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name. 00:14:38.67\00:14:41.32 Well I know, because-- 00:14:41.33\00:14:42.36 I came out of one of those denominations. 00:14:42.37\00:14:43.79 Okay. I used to say 00:14:43.80\00:14:44.89 the Lord's Prayer every night. 00:14:44.90\00:14:46.93 Just by row, just over and over again and have married. 00:14:46.94\00:14:50.67 So I know exactly what you're talking about 00:14:50.68\00:14:52.40 but I didn't know Jesus and I didn't, 00:14:52.41\00:14:53.86 it didn't connect with me God, 00:14:53.87\00:14:55.01 it was just a formal, it was just a ceremony for me. 00:14:55.02\00:14:57.21 And sometimes even in our church, 00:14:57.22\00:14:59.30 you know people are ending their prayer 00:14:59.31\00:15:00.66 and then they'll say repeat after me, 00:15:00.67\00:15:01.68 our Father, which art in heaven, 00:15:01.69\00:15:02.72 I'll be the name and not a problem with that 00:15:02.73\00:15:06.23 but if you use that just as a point of repetition, 00:15:06.24\00:15:10.84 you sometimes fail to understand 00:15:10.85\00:15:12.16 what Jesus was saying. 00:15:12.17\00:15:14.12 He was saying there is a way, 00:15:14.13\00:15:15.94 so when the disciples said Lord, teach us how to pray? 00:15:15.95\00:15:17.99 He says so verse 2, He said to them, 00:15:18.00\00:15:20.97 when you pray say our Father in heaven 00:15:20.98\00:15:25.09 hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, 00:15:25.10\00:15:27.93 You will be down on earth as it is in heaven 00:15:27.94\00:15:30.55 and He says when you pray acknowledge a few things. 00:15:30.56\00:15:34.16 First of all where's your father, 00:15:34.17\00:15:36.43 our Father, which art in heaven 00:15:36.44\00:15:38.47 but that wasn't the end of it, 00:15:38.48\00:15:39.84 because if that was only way that we pray 00:15:39.85\00:15:42.79 then we would not even consider 00:15:42.80\00:15:45.00 that the Holy Spirit is involved in our prayer. 00:15:45.01\00:15:47.96 We wouldn't consider the fact 00:15:47.97\00:15:49.12 that Jesus is very much involved in our prayer. 00:15:49.13\00:15:53.89 And so when you think about it, 00:15:53.90\00:15:54.92 I'm gonna go back to the, 00:15:54.93\00:15:57.27 I'll use the post office as an example. 00:15:57.28\00:15:59.86 You know, person mails a letter, 00:15:59.87\00:16:02.19 then that letter goes to the post office. 00:16:02.20\00:16:06.63 If it's in your local box, 00:16:06.64\00:16:08.55 the mail carrier comes by and picks it up 00:16:08.56\00:16:10.55 and drops the flag back down. 00:16:10.56\00:16:12.32 So from your hand 00:16:12.33\00:16:13.60 to your local mail box in front of your house, 00:16:13.61\00:16:15.48 at least that's how it's out here. 00:16:15.49\00:16:17.33 To the post office, somebody else handles that, 00:16:17.34\00:16:19.53 sorts it out sends to the zip code of its destination. 00:16:19.54\00:16:22.65 Then somebody gets into that post office, 00:16:22.66\00:16:24.90 handles it again, from post office 00:16:24.91\00:16:27.85 from your hand to the other person's hand, 00:16:27.86\00:16:29.77 many different measures to get it to its destination. 00:16:29.78\00:16:32.56 But sometimes, John, we'll sent a letter out, 00:16:32.57\00:16:35.39 and we'll forget to put the whole address 00:16:35.40\00:16:36.99 and the person said, you know, 00:16:37.00\00:16:38.44 I got your letter and you didn't put the zip code, 00:16:38.45\00:16:41.66 but you put the city 00:16:41.67\00:16:43.14 and the post office knew what you meant. 00:16:43.15\00:16:46.49 Sometimes you forget to finish the city name or scribble 00:16:46.50\00:16:49.17 but you put the zip code and they say wow, 00:16:49.18\00:16:51.47 it's got to be, well that's a small town, 62896, 00:16:51.48\00:16:55.80 well that's only was Frankfurt, 00:16:55.81\00:16:57.45 at least out here, that's the way it is. 00:16:57.46\00:16:59.41 Sometimes we pray that very same way. 00:16:59.42\00:17:02.23 We pray and we say, Oh! Well, I'm praying for this, 00:17:02.24\00:17:07.80 don't know how to, don't know how to exactly ask this, 00:17:07.81\00:17:11.19 but I'm gonna pray and then we go to the Book of Romans 00:17:11.20\00:17:14.33 and Paul so wonderfully says when you pray sometimes, 00:17:14.34\00:17:18.07 you don't even know what you're praying for. 00:17:18.08\00:17:19.94 I love that verse. So the spirit, 00:17:19.95\00:17:21.70 let's go to that text as a matter of fact, 00:17:21.71\00:17:24.42 Romans 8 verse 26. We always read Romans 8:28, 00:17:24.43\00:17:28.46 I mean everybody knows that one 00:17:28.47\00:17:30.00 and we know that all things 00:17:30.01\00:17:31.01 but the context of that is so beautiful. 00:17:31.02\00:17:33.47 Romans 8:26, "Likewise 00:17:33.48\00:17:36.04 the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses: 00:17:36.05\00:17:40.14 for we do not know what we should pray for as we ought: 00:17:40.15\00:17:44.72 but the Spirit himself 00:17:44.73\00:17:47.39 makes intercession for us with groanings 00:17:47.40\00:17:50.01 which cannot be uttered." 00:17:50.02\00:17:52.05 "Now he who searches the hearts knows 00:17:52.06\00:17:55.40 what the mind of the Spirit is, 00:17:55.41\00:17:57.31 because he makes intercession for the saints 00:17:57.32\00:17:59.67 according to the will of God." 00:17:59.68\00:18:01.41 In this passage you have-you have Christ 00:18:01.42\00:18:03.58 and you have the Holy Spirit. 00:18:03.59\00:18:05.56 He who knows the heart of the Spirit, 00:18:05.57\00:18:06.93 he who knows the heart of man, the Spirit 00:18:06.94\00:18:09.28 and I like the fact that he says with groanings 00:18:09.29\00:18:11.40 which cannot be uttered, that's another whole topic. 00:18:11.41\00:18:13.48 That topic could refute the fact 00:18:13.49\00:18:15.98 that we have to pray in tongues, 00:18:15.99\00:18:18.00 because the Spirit himself uses groanings 00:18:18.01\00:18:20.64 which cannot be uttered. 00:18:20.65\00:18:22.52 And so the Spirit hears and understands 00:18:22.53\00:18:25.85 what we want to say, reading our intents, 00:18:25.86\00:18:28.51 reading our hearts and brings that to Christ 00:18:28.52\00:18:30.94 and Christ brings that before the Father. 00:18:30.95\00:18:33.29 Because no man comes to the Father 00:18:33.30\00:18:34.74 except through Jesus Christ. Amen. 00:18:34.75\00:18:36.34 You want to add something to that? 00:18:36.35\00:18:37.91 Oh, I really love this prayer 00:18:37.92\00:18:40.71 that Jesus gives us an outline. 00:18:40.72\00:18:43.27 I've learned to love it 00:18:43.28\00:18:44.63 because it tells us not only how to approach God, 00:18:44.64\00:18:48.27 but it tells us that God wants to deliver us 00:18:48.28\00:18:51.53 from the evil in this world. That's right. 00:18:51.54\00:18:53.39 And when I interact with the Lord, 00:18:53.40\00:18:57.01 sometimes I do still fall into that old habit of just, 00:18:57.02\00:19:02.73 you know, not even remembering what I actually prayed 00:19:02.74\00:19:04.99 or what I actually asked for etc. 00:19:05.00\00:19:07.18 But when I remember what Jesus said, 00:19:07.19\00:19:08.62 when you pray, pray this way 00:19:08.63\00:19:10.67 and He goes to the prayer and He says, ask God 00:19:10.68\00:19:13.06 to deliver you from evil. That's right. 00:19:13.07\00:19:14.88 Ask God for His will to be done 00:19:14.89\00:19:16.79 on earth as it is in heaven, 00:19:16.80\00:19:18.60 and that many times awakens my heart, 00:19:18.61\00:19:22.74 my angst, my fervor, 00:19:22.75\00:19:24.91 my desire because a lot of times when I pray, 00:19:24.92\00:19:28.26 I'm concerned about my children, 00:19:28.27\00:19:30.35 I'm concerned about things 00:19:30.36\00:19:32.01 that are taking place in the world, 00:19:32.02\00:19:34.07 injustice is taking place. And it reminds me 00:19:34.08\00:19:37.23 that what is happening in this world 00:19:37.24\00:19:38.90 is not always God's will. That's right. 00:19:38.91\00:19:40.78 Pray that God's work will be done. 00:19:40.79\00:19:42.00 It reminds me that, that there's evil in this world 00:19:42.01\00:19:44.32 that God wants to deliver us from. 00:19:44.33\00:19:46.16 So not everything that's happening in this world 00:19:46.17\00:19:48.79 is part of God's plan. He is against evil. 00:19:48.80\00:19:52.30 I mean if God and evil were partners, 00:19:52.31\00:19:54.39 then the prayer to be delivered from evil 00:19:54.40\00:19:56.72 will be the prayer to be delivered from God. 00:19:56.73\00:19:58.58 That's right. So we're praying to be delivered from evil 00:19:58.59\00:20:00.44 and God wants to deliver us from evil. 00:20:00.45\00:20:02.62 So as I look at the prayer 00:20:02.63\00:20:03.90 and I look at the outline that Jesus gives us, 00:20:03.91\00:20:06.40 yeah, it reminds me of his hatred of evil 00:20:06.41\00:20:09.92 and his desire to, to return us to heaven 00:20:09.93\00:20:14.01 and to the way things operate in heaven 00:20:14.02\00:20:15.55 which is based on the law of love. That's right. 00:20:15.56\00:20:18.41 And so that, that prayer that he's established, 00:20:18.42\00:20:20.56 Luke records it, John, Matthew records it. 00:20:20.57\00:20:24.23 Ah, it, the pattern is beautiful, 00:20:24.24\00:20:25.99 I mean, can you say it's not beautiful 00:20:26.00\00:20:27.55 when Jesus established it? Amen. 00:20:27.56\00:20:29.37 It just will be-- well, 00:20:29.38\00:20:32.17 let's not go down that road. 00:20:32.18\00:20:34.11 However there are few other components to prayer 00:20:34.12\00:20:36.79 that we have to acknowledge. 00:20:36.80\00:20:38.20 There's a lot of times I hear people pray 00:20:38.21\00:20:39.77 and they mention their request, 00:20:39.78\00:20:42.15 but they don't put the address on it, okay. 00:20:42.16\00:20:45.63 They write the letter but they never address the envelope. 00:20:45.64\00:20:48.96 The address to the envelope is in Jesus name we pray. Amen. 00:20:48.97\00:20:52.55 Let's look at that in John Chapter 14, 00:20:52.56\00:20:54.57 verse 6, and verse 14. 00:20:54.58\00:20:57.26 Matter of fact, let me go 00:20:57.27\00:20:59.11 and put on my glasses, not that I need them. 00:20:59.12\00:21:02.72 Okay, I got to stop fooling myself, I do need them. 00:21:02.73\00:21:06.52 I've been working that one for a long time. 00:21:06.53\00:21:09.28 John 14 verse 6, Jesus says, 00:21:09.29\00:21:13.83 "I am the way, the truth and the life. 00:21:13.84\00:21:18.24 No one comes to the Father except through me." 00:21:18.25\00:21:23.05 and then down in verse 14, 00:21:23.06\00:21:24.77 "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." 00:21:24.78\00:21:29.69 verse 13, "Whatever you ask in my name, 00:21:29.70\00:21:33.42 that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." 00:21:33.43\00:21:38.74 You think of it now, what do you put on an ad, 00:21:38.75\00:21:41.14 what do you put in an envelope, 00:21:41.15\00:21:42.14 one of the first things you put on the envelope 00:21:42.15\00:21:43.99 when you're mailing a letter is what? Your name. 00:21:44.00\00:21:47.11 Yes. The person's name. 00:21:47.12\00:21:49.14 John Smith, James Rafferty, John Lomacang, 00:21:49.15\00:21:53.58 what's his address, see so when you pray your prayer, 00:21:53.59\00:21:57.19 don't forget to put the address on your prayer. Amen. 00:21:57.20\00:22:00.95 Jesus, in Jesus name I pray. 00:22:00.96\00:22:04.05 And He says okay now I know 00:22:04.06\00:22:06.31 what do you want me to do with that 00:22:06.32\00:22:07.74 and He brings it before the Father. 00:22:07.75\00:22:09.54 Amen. Yeah, that's beautiful. 00:22:09.55\00:22:12.09 When we look at the outline that God has given us, 00:22:12.10\00:22:15.54 it is a succinct and brief, 00:22:15.55\00:22:17.84 yet exhaustive outline that covers every aspect 00:22:17.85\00:22:21.73 of the need of the fallen human heart. 00:22:21.74\00:22:23.94 That's right. For intercession, 00:22:23.95\00:22:25.63 for connection and for the expression 00:22:25.64\00:22:29.68 of our frustration and anxieties. 00:22:29.69\00:22:31.75 Sometimes when I look at the Old Testament 00:22:31.76\00:22:34.99 and David, I think about some of the Psalms 00:22:35.00\00:22:37.59 that he wrote and some of the angst 00:22:37.60\00:22:40.41 and I'm going to use that word instead of anger. Okay. 00:22:40.42\00:22:43.06 That he expresses, you know, consume them. 00:22:43.07\00:22:45.03 Frustration. Yeah, consume them, 00:22:45.04\00:22:46.86 and even job, consume them, 00:22:46.87\00:22:49.19 destroy them, what's going on? 00:22:49.20\00:22:50.51 Why are you letting this happen? 00:22:50.52\00:22:52.32 And I believe that when Jesus mentions 00:22:52.33\00:22:55.27 these various aspects in this outline of prayer, 00:22:55.28\00:22:59.12 He's calling us to engage our hearts with God. That's right. 00:22:59.13\00:23:02.85 Many times we engage our hearts with other people, 00:23:02.86\00:23:06.02 with other human beings. 00:23:06.03\00:23:07.52 We let them have a peace of our minds 00:23:07.53\00:23:09.54 in a positive or negative way and we overwhelm them. 00:23:09.55\00:23:14.24 People, human beings can't always handle that, 00:23:14.25\00:23:16.19 even counselors can be overwhelmed, 00:23:16.20\00:23:18.38 but there is a God in heaven. 00:23:18.39\00:23:20.03 There's a heavenly counselor that we can never overwhelm 00:23:20.04\00:23:23.76 with our request, with our burdens, 00:23:23.77\00:23:26.00 with our anxieties, with our distress and our anger, 00:23:26.01\00:23:29.60 we can never overwhelm Him. That's right. 00:23:29.61\00:23:31.09 We can give him everything and He understands. 00:23:31.10\00:23:33.98 In fact, even when we manifest anger, 00:23:33.99\00:23:36.56 I love the verse and now in Ephesians 4 verse 27, 00:23:36.57\00:23:41.29 I want to just read that. Okay. 00:23:41.30\00:23:42.98 Quickly because it's so significant. 00:23:42.99\00:23:44.37 Turn with us to Ephesians 4:27. 00:23:44.38\00:23:46.73 Ephesians 4 and verse 27, 00:23:46.74\00:23:49.60 this verse, you know how it is John, 00:23:49.61\00:23:51.77 there are times when you have a verse 00:23:51.78\00:23:54.55 that you do not understand. 00:23:54.56\00:23:56.90 You read it, you read it, you read it and you just, 00:23:56.91\00:23:59.33 it just sits, you just don't get it. 00:23:59.34\00:24:01.21 And so what I do with those verse, 00:24:01.22\00:24:02.92 I put them on the shelf 00:24:02.93\00:24:04.21 and I believe that in time as Christian experience grows 00:24:04.22\00:24:07.41 and as we move on and we learn and we grow and we-- 00:24:07.42\00:24:10.33 we go through these different trials 00:24:10.34\00:24:12.78 or experiences that, that these text begin 00:24:12.79\00:24:16.45 to make sense to us, 00:24:16.46\00:24:17.66 you know maybe through other texts, 00:24:17.67\00:24:19.28 maybe through other experiences, 00:24:19.29\00:24:20.44 maybe through other people or messages 00:24:20.45\00:24:23.10 and this is one text that has made 00:24:23.11\00:24:24.36 a lot of sense to me just recently. Okay. 00:24:24.37\00:24:27.54 Ephesians 4:27, excuse me, 4:26, 00:24:27.55\00:24:30.84 here's what it says, "Be angry and sin not, 00:24:30.85\00:24:36.33 let not the sun go down upon your wrath." 00:24:36.34\00:24:40.35 And you might say what does that have to do with prayer? 00:24:40.36\00:24:43.24 What does that have to do with prayer? 00:24:43.25\00:24:44.82 "Be angry and sin not, 00:24:44.83\00:24:46.44 don't let the sun go down on your wrath." 00:24:46.45\00:24:48.10 Well right there, there's an indication, 00:24:48.11\00:24:49.63 don't let the sun go down on your wrath, 00:24:49.64\00:24:51.35 before you go to bed at night, 00:24:51.36\00:24:53.19 before you hit the pillow, before you go to sleep, 00:24:53.20\00:24:56.20 there is something that you may need 00:24:56.21\00:24:58.08 to communicate to get off your chest 00:24:58.09\00:25:00.25 and there's only one person you can communicate to, 00:25:00.26\00:25:03.39 that's really gonna be able to take care for you. 00:25:03.40\00:25:05.48 It's gonna be able to displace the anger 00:25:05.49\00:25:07.16 and give you the peace. 00:25:07.17\00:25:08.34 Now the reason I like this verse 00:25:08.35\00:25:09.78 is because it's so contradictory 00:25:09.79\00:25:12.85 and so difficult to understand and yet sometimes 00:25:12.86\00:25:15.68 when you come to verses like that, 00:25:15.69\00:25:17.55 once you understand them, they become so powerful, 00:25:17.56\00:25:20.22 the impact is so powerful. 00:25:20.23\00:25:21.74 "Be angry and sin not." That's right. 00:25:21.75\00:25:24.20 Now I always understood that anger is sin. 00:25:24.21\00:25:27.53 How can you be angry and not sin? 00:25:27.54\00:25:29.97 Well, there is a way, 00:25:29.98\00:25:31.06 when you connect that anger to God, 00:25:31.07\00:25:32.98 when you connect that anger to prayer, 00:25:32.99\00:25:35.08 when you, your anger is vented 00:25:35.09\00:25:37.11 as David did over and over again, 00:25:37.12\00:25:39.28 he was being mistreated by Saul unfairly, unjustly 00:25:39.29\00:25:43.61 and he vented on God. 00:25:43.62\00:25:45.17 And he said to God, consume him, 00:25:45.18\00:25:47.25 take him out, destroy him, destroy my enemies. 00:25:47.26\00:25:50.03 And sometimes we read those verse and we think, wow! 00:25:50.04\00:25:52.57 David, why are you saying that? There he's venting. 00:25:52.58\00:25:55.44 But we understand why he says it 00:25:55.45\00:25:57.24 when he meets up with Saul. 00:25:57.25\00:25:58.83 When David has the opportunity 00:25:58.84\00:26:00.85 to take Saul's life himself in the cave 00:26:00.86\00:26:03.68 and there were couple of opportunities 00:26:03.69\00:26:05.04 he was given, he doesn't touch him. 00:26:05.05\00:26:06.97 That's right. You know why? 00:26:06.98\00:26:08.31 Because he has given his anger to God 00:26:08.32\00:26:10.49 and he's not going to sin by touching the Lord's anointed. 00:26:10.50\00:26:13.45 He's gonna be angry and sin not. 00:26:13.46\00:26:15.27 He's not gonna let the sun go down in his wrath. 00:26:15.28\00:26:17.15 Very good point. He gives it to God, 00:26:17.16\00:26:19.19 he vents and God takes that anger 00:26:19.20\00:26:22.10 and displaces it with his peace and with his love. 00:26:22.11\00:26:25.08 And then he can say to Saul, 00:26:25.09\00:26:26.55 "I had a chance to kill you but I didn't." 00:26:26.56\00:26:28.55 And Saul would say, "You're more righteous that I am." 00:26:28.56\00:26:31.47 So I love this picture that we have. 00:26:31.48\00:26:33.49 That's a beautiful, that's a beautiful presentation. 00:26:33.50\00:26:35.34 Yeah, in the context of the Lord's prayer, 00:26:35.35\00:26:37.52 deliver us from evil, from what evil? 00:26:37.53\00:26:39.49 Well, from the evil I would have done. That's right. 00:26:39.50\00:26:41.32 You know the evil that David almost did with Nabal, 00:26:41.33\00:26:43.90 the evil that he wouldn't do with Saul, 00:26:43.91\00:26:45.28 delivers from that evil and like you will be done. 00:26:45.29\00:26:47.93 In other words, David says, in the end of his psalms, 00:26:47.94\00:26:50.73 in psalms he always says, "I'm praising you God, 00:26:50.74\00:26:52.56 I know you gonna take care of this." 00:26:52.57\00:26:53.96 He says to Saul, the Lord judge between me and you, 00:26:53.97\00:26:56.19 the Lord avenge me of you. That's right. 00:26:56.20\00:26:57.77 And then David is clear, so much so, 00:26:57.78\00:27:00.36 so much peace, so much love. 00:27:00.37\00:27:01.84 But when Saul finally dies, unlike our attitudes perhaps 00:27:01.85\00:27:05.50 toward the death of our enemies, 00:27:05.51\00:27:08.02 people that we don't like in this world, 00:27:08.03\00:27:10.22 who hate, you know, have harmed us, he weeps. 00:27:10.23\00:27:13.50 He weeps for Saul and that's the heart of God. 00:27:13.51\00:27:16.38 That's right. That's the heart of God. 00:27:16.39\00:27:17.44 And so the Lord's prayer gives us this outline 00:27:17.45\00:27:20.11 that Jesus gives to His disciples 00:27:20.12\00:27:22.29 that His disciples eventually embrace 00:27:22.30\00:27:25.39 and that causes Jesus on the cross 00:27:25.40\00:27:27.23 to weep for His enemies and His disciples to weep 00:27:27.24\00:27:29.65 for their enemies and ask by God's grace to weep for ours. 00:27:29.66\00:27:32.86 That--that's a beautiful way to look at that, 00:27:32.87\00:27:34.77 because a lot of times when we say, 00:27:34.78\00:27:36.96 even the verse that follows it, 00:27:36.97\00:27:38.15 there's an entire sermon itself "Nor give place to the devil." 00:27:38.16\00:27:41.18 When you-- when you don't allow 00:27:41.19\00:27:43.16 that wrath to be laid aside, 00:27:43.17\00:27:45.06 the devil is waiting to take his place. Yes. 00:27:45.07\00:27:47.84 And then the hand that would have been 00:27:47.85\00:27:49.68 the hand to heal the hurt becomes 00:27:49.69\00:27:52.39 the hand to exasperate the injury. 00:27:52.40\00:27:56.47 And so we say, well I can't wait and so we carry, 00:27:56.48\00:27:58.99 even amongst our own hearts as Christians sometimes 00:27:59.00\00:28:01.58 we carry in anger that has not been settled, 00:28:01.59\00:28:04.03 it has not been laid down when the sun went down. 00:28:04.04\00:28:07.09 Yes. And we carry that burden, 00:28:07.10\00:28:08.70 that, that is beautiful way of saying 00:28:08.71\00:28:11.23 that because David was able to clear his heart. Yes. 00:28:11.24\00:28:14.73 And there are those in, 00:28:14.74\00:28:15.81 if you listen carefully to what James just said, 00:28:15.82\00:28:17.98 they're those who are probably carrying burdens right now 00:28:17.99\00:28:20.51 and their names that may be flying 00:28:20.52\00:28:22.46 through your roller decks, it's an old fashioned word, 00:28:22.47\00:28:25.73 flying through your schedule. Your address book. 00:28:25.74\00:28:29.27 Your address book, that you can think of things 00:28:29.28\00:28:31.99 that you wanna do to get back at them, 00:28:32.00\00:28:33.55 but if you let that prayer of God the deliverance from evil. 00:28:33.56\00:28:38.73 Beautiful aspect of it, it's not just deliverance 00:28:38.74\00:28:40.84 from the evil that's around us, 00:28:40.85\00:28:42.81 but most specifically the evil that abides within us. 00:28:42.82\00:28:45.79 I appreciate that very much. 00:28:45.80\00:28:46.91 So that's a very great quotation to that. 00:28:46.92\00:28:49.84 Hopefully we answered your questions today. 00:28:49.85\00:28:51.44 We covered just about two or three of them. 00:28:51.45\00:28:53.40 But I know that in the upcoming programs, 00:28:53.41\00:28:55.23 we'll be able to get to some more of those. 00:28:55.24\00:28:56.72 If you have any more questions or comments, 00:28:56.73\00:28:58.90 you can send those to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:28:58.91\00:29:01.53 that's housecalls@3abn.org 00:29:01.54\00:29:04.47 and we always appreciate 00:29:04.48\00:29:05.76 what you do for the cause of God here 00:29:05.77\00:29:08.12 and also what you do for 3ABN, 00:29:08.13\00:29:10.08 keeping these programs going and growing 00:29:10.09\00:29:12.10 as you pray and support this network. 00:29:12.11\00:29:15.24 Our topic today is a powerful one. 00:29:15.25\00:29:17.49 It's about the immortality of the soul. 00:29:17.50\00:29:19.88 Now when we talk about the immortality of the soul, 00:29:19.89\00:29:23.84 this is broad as like saying 00:29:23.85\00:29:25.34 we're gonna talk about fruit today. 00:29:25.35\00:29:28.46 I mean what fruit? Pineapples, mangoes, 00:29:28.47\00:29:33.01 you know, durian from the Philippines, 00:29:33.02\00:29:35.18 what fruit? Broad, broad topic. 00:29:35.19\00:29:37.82 But James, the reason why I chose this topic today 00:29:37.83\00:29:40.76 is because Satan is not retire, 00:29:40.77\00:29:45.28 he's not retire, he is, okay, 00:29:45.29\00:29:46.83 he is never been on vacation. 00:29:46.84\00:29:47.98 No, never he is-- He's gonna, 00:29:47.99\00:29:49.29 he's gonna go on one, we can't wait. 00:29:49.30\00:29:51.33 Yeah, he's gonna make up for all those lost, 00:29:51.34\00:29:53.02 those lost days of vacation. 00:29:53.03\00:29:54.88 Exactly, all those vacation days accruing 00:29:54.89\00:29:57.36 and he's gonna have a massive, he's gonna go out in flames. 00:29:57.37\00:30:00.52 He's gonna just really lighted up. 00:30:00.53\00:30:04.95 He's gonna be under the sun. 00:30:04.96\00:30:06.40 Under the sun, I like that. 00:30:06.41\00:30:08.41 However this topic is continuing 00:30:08.42\00:30:10.74 to add fuel to the deception 00:30:10.75\00:30:13.03 that he laid in the Garden of Eden. 00:30:13.04\00:30:15.09 You will not surely die. 00:30:15.10\00:30:16.79 And there are books being written. 00:30:16.80\00:30:17.94 As a matter of fact I was in the airport, 00:30:17.95\00:30:20.46 we were picking up a friend, my wife and I 00:30:20.47\00:30:23.82 as they would say in Europe, collecting a friend, 00:30:23.83\00:30:26.35 you know, collecting a friend. 00:30:26.36\00:30:28.73 And I saw I went-- I crossed a couple of books 00:30:28.74\00:30:31.34 that shows me that people today are more desirous of reading 00:30:31.35\00:30:36.08 what somebody else wrote rather than what's already 00:30:36.09\00:30:39.76 written in the word of God about whether or not 00:30:39.77\00:30:42.73 we have an immortal soul. 00:30:42.74\00:30:45.13 And I have discovered and maybe you've seen this too 00:30:45.14\00:30:49.54 that there's a particular topic that almost has been omitted, 00:30:49.55\00:30:53.12 you don't hear sermons about it. 00:30:53.13\00:30:55.31 The resurrection, who talks about the resurrection? 00:30:55.32\00:30:58.19 The only time the resurrection comes into view is around 00:30:58.20\00:31:00.76 Easter weekend in most denominations. 00:31:00.77\00:31:04.02 But the resurrection has been deleted 00:31:04.03\00:31:05.69 or omitted from the Bible 00:31:05.70\00:31:06.96 and so nowadays as people die, go right to heaven. 00:31:06.97\00:31:11.68 Their heart stops on a gurney or on a surgical table 00:31:11.69\00:31:15.70 and they go to heaven. 00:31:15.71\00:31:17.01 Some of them say they've been there 00:31:17.02\00:31:19.03 for 90 minutes and they came back. 00:31:19.04\00:31:21.48 It's an adult or a little boy 00:31:21.49\00:31:23.66 and there are four books right now prominent, 00:31:23.67\00:31:25.65 I don't want people to read these books, 00:31:25.66\00:31:27.37 but there's one called "Heaven is for Real", 00:31:27.38\00:31:29.90 a story of a little boy who've said he'd, 00:31:29.91\00:31:33.03 he said he had gone to heaven. 00:31:33.04\00:31:35.37 A little boy's astounding story of his life, 00:31:35.38\00:31:38.47 of his trip to heaven and back. 00:31:38.48\00:31:41.22 That's one there and I saw that in the shelf and said wow, 00:31:41.23\00:31:43.95 and in another New York Times bestseller. 00:31:43.96\00:31:46.17 So to be a bestseller, 00:31:46.18\00:31:47.18 you got to be selling millions of books. 00:31:47.19\00:31:49.82 The boy who came back from heaven. 00:31:49.83\00:31:53.81 And another one, "My Time in Heaven", 00:31:53.82\00:31:57.67 the story of dying and coming back 00:31:57.68\00:32:00.15 and it shows the, shows the little signals there 00:32:00.16\00:32:05.37 that you get when you're on a, on a, 00:32:05.38\00:32:08.27 when your heart stops anyway. 00:32:08.28\00:32:10.42 And then the other one, "90 Minutes in Heaven". 00:32:10.43\00:32:13.13 And I thought what an appropriate time, 00:32:13.14\00:32:15.65 all these books are going out, 00:32:15.66\00:32:16.83 really planting seeds of untruth, 00:32:16.84\00:32:19.21 that its time to revisit God's word. It is. 00:32:19.22\00:32:21.02 And let Christians know, 00:32:21.03\00:32:22.85 Christians are buying these books. 00:32:22.86\00:32:25.22 So you hear phrases like, at every funeral I go to, 00:32:25.23\00:32:29.30 I was just so touched, just recently 00:32:29.31\00:32:31.28 I went to a funeral of another denomination 00:32:31.29\00:32:34.19 and they never said once that, that person was in heaven 00:32:34.20\00:32:37.80 and I was just absolutely, my heart was comforted 00:32:37.81\00:32:40.26 and I actually could say amen, 00:32:40.27\00:32:42.05 because I knew what they were saying was scriptural. 00:32:42.06\00:32:44.38 But for the most part, he's in heaven now, 00:32:44.39\00:32:47.07 he's looking down, he's in a better place, 00:32:47.08\00:32:49.79 he's with mama, you know, out of mind, 00:32:49.80\00:32:52.59 dying because I'll see grandma, all those terms. 00:32:52.60\00:32:55.71 And we have to use the Bible as our foundation. 00:32:55.72\00:32:58.74 You know it's amazing 00:32:58.75\00:32:59.74 when you think about this because this is, 00:32:59.75\00:33:02.76 there is a rush, Satan is making a rush 00:33:06.73\00:33:08.60 for the souls and the hearts and the minds of people 00:33:08.61\00:33:10.61 and he is doing it in a couple of books 00:33:10.62\00:33:12.55 you've mentioned, something really hit my mind, 00:33:12.56\00:33:15.37 and my heart there was he's using children, 00:33:15.38\00:33:18.06 he's using children's experiences. 00:33:18.07\00:33:20.04 And I mean what, how is it that, the people, adults, 00:33:20.05\00:33:26.10 would be unsympathetic toward a child? Right. 00:33:26.11\00:33:29.04 I remember hearing accounts of teachers 00:33:29.05\00:33:31.61 who in school clarified 00:33:31.62\00:33:33.83 and I didn't have this clarified 00:33:33.84\00:33:35.36 in my experience until I was eight or nine years old 00:33:35.37\00:33:38.06 that there is no such thing as Santa Claus, 00:33:38.07\00:33:40.30 there is no such thing, you know, as the Easter bunny. 00:33:40.31\00:33:43.33 And these teachers were reprimanded, 00:33:43.34\00:33:45.26 you know, for telling this 00:33:45.27\00:33:46.36 to third graders, and fourth graders. 00:33:46.37\00:33:48.12 In the true theory. Yes. 00:33:48.13\00:33:49.91 They were reprimanded and they have to go in there 00:33:49.92\00:33:51.45 and tell them that wasn't true 00:33:51.46\00:33:52.89 because these kids were devastated. 00:33:52.90\00:33:54.62 You just don't do that to kids, 00:33:54.63\00:33:55.90 you let kids believe these fairytales and of course, 00:33:55.91\00:34:00.69 you know, getting off 00:34:00.70\00:34:01.80 a little bit of the subject here, 00:34:01.81\00:34:04.27 letting them believing and raising children 00:34:04.28\00:34:06.78 to believe fairytales diminishes 00:34:06.79\00:34:09.93 their faith in the word of God. 00:34:09.94\00:34:11.28 That's right. Because it upends them, 00:34:11.29\00:34:13.44 they've trusted their parents, 00:34:13.45\00:34:14.76 they believe what the parent says, 00:34:14.77\00:34:16.16 and then when they get to be 10 or 11 or 12 00:34:16.17\00:34:17.81 or at least a teenager, 00:34:17.82\00:34:18.93 they realize it's untrue, it's wrong. And-- 00:34:18.94\00:34:21.82 In all of suddenly they wonder, well how many other things 00:34:21.83\00:34:23.83 that I have been told are not true. Exactly. 00:34:23.84\00:34:25.85 How many other things? 00:34:25.86\00:34:26.94 And there are so many similarities to Christmas 00:34:26.95\00:34:29.45 and the story of Christmas and the Bible, 00:34:29.46\00:34:31.27 in fact it's connected to the Bible. 00:34:31.28\00:34:33.02 So how can you raise children believing in these stories 00:34:33.03\00:34:37.38 that they end up thinking are fairytales 00:34:37.39\00:34:39.26 and have them hold on to their faith in the word of God. 00:34:39.27\00:34:42.05 And Jesus tells us too the faith of the little child 00:34:42.06\00:34:44.46 is powerful, it's, and they should become 00:34:44.47\00:34:46.12 as little children, they believe almost anything. 00:34:46.13\00:34:48.62 And so who's going to question, 00:34:48.63\00:34:50.35 you know, in these couple of books 00:34:50.36\00:34:51.73 you've mentioned that children are the forefront, 00:34:51.74\00:34:54.61 who is going to question? 00:34:54.62\00:34:55.61 Who is going to want to diminish 00:34:55.62\00:34:57.55 a story that's coming from a child? 00:34:57.56\00:34:59.38 I think they're gonna say, 00:34:59.39\00:35:00.99 who could say that, "Look at this little kid, 00:35:01.00\00:35:02.66 he's so tender, he is so innocent, 00:35:02.67\00:35:04.53 I don't think he's lying. 00:35:04.54\00:35:05.58 He had to have an honest experience" 00:35:05.59\00:35:07.66 and yes what many individuals also discount 00:35:07.67\00:35:11.66 the fact that Satan is the master of delusion. Yes. 00:35:11.67\00:35:15.26 We're living in a world of miracles. 00:35:15.27\00:35:16.59 We're living in the world where demons 00:35:16.60\00:35:17.89 are present in the minds of the young. 00:35:17.90\00:35:20.61 Just to give you an example, 00:35:20.62\00:35:22.40 years ago before I was a pastor, 00:35:22.41\00:35:26.96 this movie "Poltergeist" came out and-- 00:35:26.97\00:35:30.91 I remember that, I remember that. 00:35:30.92\00:35:33.21 And the key, and one of the key actress 00:35:33.22\00:35:35.39 and by the way many of the people 00:35:35.40\00:35:36.76 that were in that movie either went crazy or died-- 00:35:36.77\00:35:39.32 Right. Lot of people had died 00:35:39.33\00:35:40.69 that were acting in that movie. 00:35:40.70\00:35:42.86 There was a little girl sitting in front of a television, 00:35:42.87\00:35:45.31 and all of sudden one snowy white and black 00:35:45.32\00:35:48.27 and she'd say this two words, "they're here." 00:35:48.28\00:35:52.77 And I noticed, wait a minute, 00:35:52.78\00:35:54.01 there's a pattern in these movies, 00:35:54.02\00:35:55.77 little children being used to communicate this. 00:35:55.78\00:35:58.74 So the pattern hasn't changed. 00:35:58.75\00:36:00.59 Satan is using another child and people will say well, 00:36:00.60\00:36:03.69 how can you say that this 00:36:03.70\00:36:05.54 little boy's testimony is not correct? 00:36:05.55\00:36:10.19 Well, it's not about the little boy, 00:36:10.20\00:36:11.77 it's not about age at all. No. 00:36:11.78\00:36:14.08 It's about comparing what he said to the word of God. 00:36:14.09\00:36:17.49 So we're getting now to the point 00:36:17.50\00:36:18.78 where Satan is using instruments 00:36:18.79\00:36:20.40 that we're saying well, first of all, 00:36:20.41\00:36:22.86 how could that preacher not be telling the truth, 00:36:22.87\00:36:24.75 but now we know that all preachers don't tell the truth, 00:36:24.76\00:36:26.90 we finally came to that conclusion. So he says wow! 00:36:26.91\00:36:30.77 Now that preachers are now put down 00:36:30.78\00:36:32.56 to the level of a used car salesmen in some cases, 00:36:32.57\00:36:35.49 what other medium can I use? 00:36:35.50\00:36:36.96 So he goesto the innocent child 00:36:36.97\00:36:39.60 and uses them as a vessel to communicate things 00:36:39.61\00:36:42.02 that are not in harmony with the scriptures. 00:36:42.03\00:36:43.95 So that's why we need to go the Bible 00:36:43.96\00:36:45.27 and begin to lay the foundation 00:36:45.28\00:36:46.59 that what Satan said in the very beginning 00:36:46.60\00:36:49.09 is still going on to this very day. 00:36:49.10\00:36:52.20 I remember a little poem that was written on a tombstone 00:36:52.21\00:36:56.28 that young man was walking through a graveyard 00:36:56.29\00:36:59.54 and he read this tombstone and the epitaph 00:36:59.55\00:37:01.89 and it said something like, "Where you're now 00:37:01.90\00:37:04.42 so once was I and where I am, you soon will be. 00:37:04.43\00:37:07.95 Prepare yourself to follow me". Exactly. 00:37:07.96\00:37:10.18 And he took out some kind of marker crayon, 00:37:10.19\00:37:12.33 and he wrote on that, "To follow you 00:37:12.34\00:37:14.27 I'm not content until I know just where you went." 00:37:14.28\00:37:17.20 Exactly. Just where do you go when you die? 00:37:17.21\00:37:20.05 That's right. This is the question 00:37:20.06\00:37:21.68 that must be asked and it must be answered by the Bible. 00:37:21.69\00:37:25.52 That's right. And we have to go back to the very beginning. 00:37:25.53\00:37:28.19 We have to go back to the creation story 00:37:28.20\00:37:30.41 in the Book of Genesis and understand 00:37:30.42\00:37:32.70 how God created us in order to get the right answer, 00:37:32.71\00:37:36.03 the correct answer to this question. 00:37:36.04\00:37:37.77 Right, in other words, if you know where you've come from, 00:37:37.78\00:37:41.27 you know where you're headed. 00:37:41.28\00:37:43.61 I'm going back home. Or where do you live? 00:37:43.62\00:37:46.65 I live in New York, I live in Washington, 00:37:46.66\00:37:48.87 I live in Tennessee, you know we headed back to. 00:37:48.88\00:37:51.38 We've got to look at the origin of man 00:37:51.39\00:37:54.11 to find out the destiny of man. 00:37:54.12\00:37:56.29 Amen. That is in this life. 00:37:56.30\00:37:59.09 Now we know that when Jesus comes, 00:37:59.10\00:38:02.38 we'll go to heaven, those of us who are under the blood 00:38:02.39\00:38:05.57 of Christ and in His righteousness. 00:38:05.58\00:38:07.69 However death has been established 00:38:07.70\00:38:09.75 as an alternate route, like you don't have to wait 00:38:09.76\00:38:12.71 till Jesus comes, you can go the backdoor, 00:38:12.72\00:38:15.07 go to, you know backstage, 00:38:15.08\00:38:16.80 you don't have to get a ticket to go, 00:38:16.81\00:38:18.17 just you, you have to buy and let you in sooner. 00:38:18.18\00:38:21.39 And death has almost been made a friend rather than an enemy. 00:38:21.40\00:38:25.77 Really, I mean if you could, if, 00:38:25.78\00:38:27.96 this is not a pleasant idea 00:38:27.97\00:38:30.24 but if by death I could be in heaven tomorrow 00:38:30.25\00:38:32.34 why would I wanna be down here any longer, 00:38:32.35\00:38:34.81 this doesn't make any sense. Now there's a Bible verse 00:38:34.82\00:38:36.39 we need to touch on where Paul seems to indicate. Right. 00:38:36.40\00:38:39.08 That's he's thinking but if we examine that carefully, 00:38:39.09\00:38:42.53 we're going to see that Paul is not talking 00:38:42.54\00:38:44.57 about two stages there, he's talking about three. Right. 00:38:44.58\00:38:48.46 And so we'll look at that probably little bit later. 00:38:48.47\00:38:50.85 Genesis Chapter 2. Just start with Genesis 2. 00:38:50.86\00:38:52.20 Yeah, Genesis Chapter 2 creation story. 00:38:52.21\00:38:55.04 Now I like Genesis 2 because Genesis 2 00:38:55.05\00:38:57.38 is what we call repeat and enlarge. 00:38:57.39\00:38:59.63 It repeats the creation story and enlarges upon it. 00:38:59.64\00:39:02.36 It gives us details. Genesis 1 God simply says 00:39:02.37\00:39:05.05 "He made man in His image, He made man and woman 00:39:05.06\00:39:07.70 and He made them in His image." Right. 00:39:07.71\00:39:09.36 Genesis 2 tells us the details of how He created us. 00:39:09.37\00:39:12.92 In verse 7, "The Lord God formed man 00:39:12.93\00:39:15.54 of the dust of the ground and breathed 00:39:15.55\00:39:18.20 into his nostrils the breath of life, 00:39:18.21\00:39:20.84 and man became a living soul." 00:39:20.85\00:39:23.88 So a living soul is made up of two parts. 00:39:23.89\00:39:26.45 A living soul is made up of the dust 00:39:26.46\00:39:28.26 of the ground and the breath of life. 00:39:28.27\00:39:30.53 That's right. The dust of the ground 00:39:30.54\00:39:31.74 and the breath of life come together 00:39:31.75\00:39:33.54 and they make a living soul. 00:39:33.55\00:39:36.09 Now the next verse that we want to connect to this 00:39:36.10\00:39:38.81 is found in Genesis Chapter 2 verse 17, 00:39:38.82\00:39:43.26 God is instructing Adam and Eve, 00:39:43.27\00:39:45.33 He's giving them dominion over the earth 00:39:45.34\00:39:47.57 and he's telling about one thing 00:39:47.58\00:39:49.22 that is in the Garden of Eden that they're not to touch. 00:39:49.23\00:39:51.83 He says, "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, 00:39:51.84\00:39:54.64 thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eat 00:39:54.65\00:39:57.32 thereof thou shalt surely die." 00:39:57.33\00:40:00.43 Okay, that's our second verse, we got the creation story, 00:40:00.44\00:40:03.24 the dust, the Spirit becoming a soul, 00:40:03.25\00:40:05.95 then we have this next verse, verse 17 says 00:40:05.96\00:40:08.24 if you eat of the tree of the knowledge of an evil 00:40:08.25\00:40:10.16 you will die. That's right. 00:40:10.17\00:40:11.52 Surely. Surely die. 00:40:11.53\00:40:13.34 And then we have our third verse 00:40:13.35\00:40:16.02 and this is in verse 4, this is the serpent 00:40:16.03\00:40:17.86 talking to Eve trying to get her to eat of the tree 00:40:17.87\00:40:20.52 that God forbid them to eat off. 00:40:20.53\00:40:22.26 And he says this, Genesis 3 verse 4, 00:40:22.27\00:40:25.53 "And the serpent said unto the woman, 00:40:25.54\00:40:27.28 "You shall not surely die."" John, this is the reason 00:40:27.29\00:40:31.37 why people get nervous in graveyards at midnight. 00:40:31.38\00:40:34.25 That's right. They know those people are dead 00:40:34.26\00:40:36.24 but they're not sure if they're surely dead. 00:40:36.25\00:40:39.78 That's right. I've said various times, 00:40:39.79\00:40:42.84 in the city of New York there are gates at cemeteries 00:40:42.85\00:40:45.56 and I will say I wonder why there's a gate? 00:40:45.57\00:40:47.89 People that are on the outside don't want to go in 00:40:47.90\00:40:49.81 and people of the inside are not coming out. 00:40:49.82\00:40:52.44 Out here there are no gates. 00:40:52.45\00:40:53.78 You know, remind you in the country 00:40:53.79\00:40:55.56 but I said if you wanna go to a place that's safe, 00:40:55.57\00:40:57.41 if you gonna have a picnic 00:40:57.42\00:40:58.62 and nobody's gonna bother you, go to a cemetery. 00:40:58.63\00:41:01.09 Read some of the tombstones, take your lunch, 00:41:01.10\00:41:02.69 sit down and lean back and you can have the quietest rest, 00:41:02.73\00:41:05.75 nobody is gonna bother you. 00:41:05.76\00:41:07.21 Now I'd people in my church say, 00:41:07.22\00:41:08.64 "No way, pastor, there is no way." 00:41:08.65\00:41:10.45 I mean what an Adventist have to say, 00:41:10.46\00:41:12.49 "There is no way. Are you nuts?" 00:41:12.50\00:41:14.67 And I'm thinking brother, what do you believe? 00:41:14.68\00:41:17.05 And it's amazing how time goes by, 00:41:17.06\00:41:19.38 yet some of these things have been planted in our formal 00:41:19.39\00:41:23.27 belief systems, still the residue is still there 00:41:23.28\00:41:26.65 to create it within our minds, this fear that somehow 00:41:26.66\00:41:30.87 the dead have something to do with the living. 00:41:30.88\00:41:34.58 Most of the angels are going to be in those positions, 00:41:34.62\00:41:37.82 in those places when Jesus comes the second time. 00:41:37.83\00:41:40.37 That's right. But now let's go to a passage 00:41:40.38\00:41:43.26 because we talk about where man came from? 00:41:43.27\00:41:46.30 The Lord God formed him from the dust of the ground, 00:41:46.31\00:41:48.65 breathe into his nostrils the breath of life, 00:41:48.66\00:41:50.21 man became a living soul. 00:41:50.22\00:41:51.72 And reiterating that man doesn't have a living soul, 00:41:51.73\00:41:54.98 man is a living soul. 00:41:54.99\00:41:57.87 That's simple little concept there 00:41:57.88\00:42:00.78 makes the difference between my soul left 00:42:00.79\00:42:04.02 and my soul didn't go anywhere. 00:42:04.03\00:42:06.32 It's vital, vital. His soul left. 00:42:06.33\00:42:09.59 There was one scientist that weighted 00:42:09.60\00:42:11.55 the body of a dead person and he say, 00:42:11.56\00:42:14.26 "you notice he's a little lighter now" 00:42:14.27\00:42:15.89 they did it by grams, little lighter now. 00:42:15.90\00:42:18.53 So that meant the soul left and they say, 00:42:18.54\00:42:20.79 you know, he breath his last breath that, 00:42:20.80\00:42:24.37 and they say the soul has left. 00:42:24.38\00:42:26.18 I saw a commercial a few years ago 00:42:26.19\00:42:28.12 where an attendant was sitting down 00:42:28.13\00:42:31.85 taking care of an older lady 00:42:31.86\00:42:33.35 and in this older lady's belief system, 00:42:33.36\00:42:34.94 she says in her country where she comes from, 00:42:34.95\00:42:37.44 she says when the person is ready to die, 00:42:37.45\00:42:40.04 they always ask for the window to be open, 00:42:40.05\00:42:42.22 so the soul could leave. 00:42:42.23\00:42:44.11 And so they showed in the commercial 00:42:44.12\00:42:45.95 the lady was lowering the window 00:42:45.96\00:42:47.64 and her friend or the nurse attendant, 00:42:47.65\00:42:49.74 because she gave her some medication, 00:42:49.75\00:42:51.10 she said not tonight. In other words, 00:42:51.11\00:42:53.71 your soul is not leaving tonight, 00:42:53.72\00:42:54.87 she closed the window. 00:42:54.88\00:42:56.58 And that subtle little commercial reiterates this idea 00:42:56.59\00:43:01.25 that it must be true, the soul is leaving. 00:43:01.26\00:43:03.56 So now what happens if that person dies, 00:43:03.57\00:43:06.01 is the soul locked in the room? 00:43:06.02\00:43:07.50 I mean, this is the concept. Right. 00:43:07.51\00:43:09.62 What is in fact, keeping that person alive? 00:43:09.63\00:43:11.64 Well let's go to the Book of Ecclesiastes, 00:43:11.65\00:43:13.58 I wanna show you reverse of this, 00:43:13.59\00:43:14.80 Ecclesiastes 12 and verse 7. 00:43:14.81\00:43:16.66 We saw the creation and remember 00:43:16.67\00:43:18.86 the dust of the ground and the breath of life. 00:43:18.87\00:43:22.48 Now we go to Ecclesiastes 12 00:43:22.49\00:43:23.94 and verse 7 to see the exact reverse of this. 00:43:23.95\00:43:26.44 Because when you see creation in reverse, 00:43:26.45\00:43:28.84 creation in reverse, or the creation of man 00:43:28.85\00:43:30.57 in reverse is simply the death of man. 00:43:30.58\00:43:32.51 And this is hard book to find John. 00:43:32.52\00:43:34.19 I mean, you got to go past the Psalms 00:43:34.20\00:43:36.19 which is the center of the Bible, 00:43:36.20\00:43:37.82 you got to go past the Proverbs 00:43:37.83\00:43:39.01 which follow the Psalms 00:43:39.02\00:43:40.18 and then you gonna find Ecclesiastes. Good. 00:43:40.19\00:43:42.95 And some of our viewers gonna have a hard time 00:43:42.96\00:43:44.54 finding that as we move through here. 00:43:44.55\00:43:45.90 I want to make sure that they can stick with us. Very good. 00:43:45.91\00:43:47.94 So Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, 00:43:47.95\00:43:50.93 Chapter what? Chapter 12. 00:43:50.94\00:43:52.40 Okay. And we gonna look at verse 7. 00:43:52.41\00:43:57.31 This passage, and by the way I remember this, 00:43:57.32\00:43:59.40 I read this one here when it says 00:43:59.41\00:44:00.63 remember the creator in the days of your youth. 00:44:00.64\00:44:03.53 Adults say well that has nothing to do with me. 00:44:03.54\00:44:05.44 Well, there actually I looked up 00:44:05.45\00:44:06.72 the actual language, it says, 00:44:06.73\00:44:08.69 "Remember the creator before you get any older." Okay. 00:44:08.70\00:44:12.34 And I thought, wow, and now that applies even to me, 00:44:12.35\00:44:14.86 because young people are not worrying 00:44:14.87\00:44:15.96 about those silver bowl being broken. 00:44:15.97\00:44:17.99 You know the hair missing, just go bowl, 00:44:18.00\00:44:20.23 and all the keepers of the gate are rattling. 00:44:20.24\00:44:24.52 So it's that what it's talking about? 00:44:24.53\00:44:25.86 Yeah, remember the creator before you get any older. 00:44:25.87\00:44:27.80 Yes and then the silver bowl? The silver bowl-- 00:44:27.81\00:44:30.32 when the hairs, this whole passage 00:44:30.33\00:44:32.04 is about the break down of the human body. 00:44:32.05\00:44:33.56 Okay. So we're talking about silver, 00:44:33.57\00:44:35.08 we're talking about grey hair. 00:44:35.09\00:44:36.18 Well the silver bowl, that the grey hair 00:44:36.19\00:44:38.82 when it's finally leaving, the bowl starts to show up. 00:44:38.83\00:44:40.74 Okay, got you. The bowl right there, the man's bowl. 00:44:40.77\00:44:43.13 Okay. I don't have one of those yet 00:44:43.14\00:44:44.93 so I was just wondering because-- 00:44:44.97\00:44:45.97 I don't have-- when the grinder, in verse 3, 00:44:45.98\00:44:48.35 "When the grinders cease because 00:44:48.36\00:44:49.67 they are few loosen teeth. 00:44:49.68\00:44:51.23 Oh, the grinders that are the teeth. 00:44:51.24\00:44:53.40 Yeah. Yeah, that's true. 00:44:53.41\00:44:54.69 "And when the doors are shut on the streets 00:44:54.70\00:44:56.39 and the sounds of the grinding is low, 00:44:56.40\00:44:58.26 when one rises up at the sound of a bird, 00:44:58.27\00:45:00.78 and all the daughters of music are brought low." 00:45:00.79\00:45:02.54 Hearing starts to leave. 00:45:02.55\00:45:03.64 Oh, got it. You see also 00:45:03.65\00:45:05.69 they are afraid of height. I've never understood this. 00:45:05.70\00:45:07.19 "Also they're afraid of height, and the terror in the way 00:45:07.20\00:45:09.25 when they almost all of sudden things that brought you joy, 00:45:09.26\00:45:12.17 now you fear for love." Okay. 00:45:12.18\00:45:13.66 And then finally it starts in verse 5 it says, 00:45:13.67\00:45:16.44 "The grasshopper is a burden, and desire fail." 00:45:16.45\00:45:19.31 There're some people say, 00:45:19.32\00:45:20.29 I wish God would just let me rest. 00:45:20.30\00:45:21.96 Yes, okay. "For man goes to his eternal home. 00:45:21.97\00:45:25.67 And the mourners go about the streets." 00:45:25.68\00:45:27.47 He finally is laid to rest. 00:45:27.48\00:45:29.12 "So remember the creator 00:45:29.13\00:45:30.27 before the silver cord is broken 00:45:30.28\00:45:32.30 or the golden bowl is loosened 00:45:32.31\00:45:33.95 or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, 00:45:33.96\00:45:37.90 or the wheel broken at the well." 00:45:37.91\00:45:40.00 But now verse 7. I haven't spent lot of time 00:45:40.01\00:45:42.29 in this but that's great, that's great. 00:45:42.30\00:45:44.21 And if you look at verse 1, it says, 00:45:44.22\00:45:45.61 "Before the difficulties come and years draw near, 00:45:45.62\00:45:48.11 when you say I have no pleasure in them." 00:45:48.12\00:45:50.36 That's in contrast to Chapter 11 verse 9 00:45:50.37\00:45:53.62 when it says, "Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, 00:45:53.63\00:45:55.94 And let your heart cheer you in all the days of your youth. 00:45:55.95\00:45:59.37 Walk in the ways of your own heart, 00:45:59.38\00:46:00.98 And in the sight of your own eyes. 00:46:00.99\00:46:02.98 But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment." 00:46:02.99\00:46:06.19 So in other words, word said, 00:46:06.20\00:46:08.85 rejoice, enjoy yourself. Yes, yes. 00:46:08.86\00:46:10.58 I can see the contrast. So you know there are some 00:46:10.59\00:46:11.58 people that are sitting in their houses, 00:46:11.59\00:46:13.80 they don't go anywhere, their legs can't move, 00:46:13.81\00:46:17.03 they have no pleasure in these days. Yes. 00:46:17.04\00:46:19.04 My grandma used to say it's a great life 00:46:19.05\00:46:20.61 if you don't weaken, if you weaken you hadn't. 00:46:20.62\00:46:24.00 And I remember she was bedridden 00:46:24.01\00:46:26.19 for quite a while before she passed. 00:46:26.20\00:46:28.57 And then final thing, the final aspect 00:46:28.58\00:46:30.15 of that is what was brought up by the wise man, 00:46:30.16\00:46:33.28 he says in verse 7, then let's go back 00:46:33.29\00:46:35.92 to the reverse of creation, man came from the dust. 00:46:35.93\00:46:39.27 "Then the dust will return to the earth as it was." Okay. 00:46:39.28\00:46:43.23 He's going back to where he came, 00:46:43.24\00:46:44.94 "And the spirit will return to God who gave it." 00:46:44.95\00:46:47.87 and that passage right there, well, who gave it? 00:46:47.88\00:46:50.07 The Lord breathes into man's nostrils 00:46:50.08\00:46:53.45 thus the breath of life, 00:46:53.46\00:46:55.75 the Spirit of God returns to God who gave it. 00:46:55.76\00:46:58.71 Now what I want you to notice where does man return? 00:46:58.72\00:47:04.36 Dust of the earth. To the dust of the earth. 00:47:04.37\00:47:05.90 Right. Because from dust, 00:47:05.91\00:47:06.94 you heard that in the funeral, from dust you are, 00:47:06.95\00:47:08.88 unto dust you shall return. 00:47:08.89\00:47:11.79 He goes back to his dust. But it doesn't say a man here, 00:47:11.80\00:47:14.84 it says then the dust returns to the earth. 00:47:14.85\00:47:17.43 And we're gonna go another passage and see the difference. 00:47:17.44\00:47:18.82 Yes. Isn't that amazing? 00:47:18.83\00:47:20.33 So what happens is if you don't understand what the dust is? 00:47:20.34\00:47:23.33 Right. Then you could say, 00:47:23.34\00:47:25.46 he's just going back into dust. Right. 00:47:25.47\00:47:27.52 So He formed man of the dust. Of the dust. 00:47:27.53\00:47:32.19 And breathing his nostrils the breath of life. 00:47:32.20\00:47:33.84 The Breath of life. And it become a living soul. 00:47:33.85\00:47:35.86 And so it's really important here to distinguish them 00:47:35.87\00:47:39.01 between the spirit that returns. That's right. 00:47:39.02\00:47:42.69 And the breath that was breezed, 00:47:42.70\00:47:45.20 the Hebrew here is 'Ruach' 00:47:45.21\00:47:48.42 which is used 117 times in the Bible 00:47:48.43\00:47:52.16 to denote wind or in 13 different occasions breath. 00:47:52.17\00:47:57.07 That's right. In other words, 00:47:57.08\00:47:58.07 the spirit here is not the soul. No. 00:47:58.08\00:48:00.12 The spirit here is the breath of life 00:48:00.13\00:48:02.34 that God breathe into man at his creation. That's right. 00:48:02.35\00:48:05.53 And so when the spirit, when the man dies, 00:48:05.54\00:48:08.78 the body goes back to the dust but the spirit goes back to, 00:48:08.79\00:48:11.90 the soul isn't going back to God. Exactly. 00:48:11.91\00:48:13.73 The spirit is going back to God. That's right. 00:48:13.74\00:48:15.51 So what happens with soul? 00:48:15.52\00:48:17.78 The soul ceases to exist. 00:48:17.79\00:48:20.26 The soul ceases to exist because the combination 00:48:20.27\00:48:23.13 of the two is what makes man a living soul. 00:48:23.14\00:48:26.18 If you look at some of the new translations, 00:48:26.19\00:48:27.98 it says man becomes a living being. 00:48:27.99\00:48:30.23 And so this, the reason why the soul 00:48:30.24\00:48:31.92 has become such a an ethereal word 00:48:31.93\00:48:36.91 is because you find that Neo-Platonism, 00:48:36.95\00:48:41.08 this teaching of the continuants of life. Okay. 00:48:41.09\00:48:45.63 This was a teaching that had permeated 00:48:45.64\00:48:48.13 even the New Testament church before the time of Christ. 00:48:48.14\00:48:50.71 Plato, the reason why it's called Neo-Platonism, 00:48:50.72\00:48:53.00 it's because there is the teaching 00:48:53.01\00:48:54.17 that the spirit, the soul 00:48:54.18\00:48:55.60 and the body are three separate entities. Okay. 00:48:55.61\00:48:58.53 Combined together to bring life to a man, 00:48:58.54\00:49:01.36 but when life ceases these separate entities 00:49:01.37\00:49:04.08 as they are being taught through Neo-Platonism 00:49:04.09\00:49:07.01 still maintain their standing. 00:49:07.02\00:49:09.49 So the body what happens, it returns back to the dust. 00:49:09.50\00:49:12.98 The spirit, what happens to it? 00:49:12.99\00:49:14.12 The mind of man ceases to function. 00:49:14.13\00:49:16.27 But the soul, he hangs around still. 00:49:16.28\00:49:18.90 And so this whole ideology was the reason 00:49:18.91\00:49:21.65 why Jesus stayed away for four days 00:49:21.66\00:49:23.61 when Lazarus was sick. Okay. 00:49:23.62\00:49:25.75 And He came and He said Lazarus is dead, 00:49:25.76\00:49:32.81 but this happened that the glory of God 00:49:32.82\00:49:34.70 may be revealed, may be manifest 00:49:34.71\00:49:36.32 and in the conversation between Martha, Mary and Jesus, 00:49:36.33\00:49:39.06 you know they all understood, 00:49:39.07\00:49:41.12 "I know my brother will rise again 00:49:41.13\00:49:42.99 in the resurrection at the last stage." 00:49:43.00\00:49:44.70 She understood the concept, she understood the teaching 00:49:44.71\00:49:46.96 of the resurrection, she did not omit that. 00:49:46.97\00:49:48.93 I think we should look at that, John, because-- 00:49:48.94\00:49:50.48 Down to Chapter 11. That's story is incredible. 00:49:50.49\00:49:53.37 Yes, every aspect of that was reiterating 00:49:53.38\00:49:55.14 the fact that man is not going anywhere. Yes. 00:49:55.15\00:49:59.09 And in out of harmony with these books 00:49:59.10\00:50:02.55 that are being written now-a-days, 00:50:02.56\00:50:04.92 well let's not jump ahead. 00:50:04.93\00:50:06.12 When Lazarus drove back to life, 00:50:06.13\00:50:07.27 he didn't say "I was in the middle 00:50:07.28\00:50:08.98 of the conversation with Elijah, 00:50:08.99\00:50:12.18 why would you bring me back down?" 00:50:12.19\00:50:14.10 He had no consciousness. 00:50:14.11\00:50:16.44 No record, and that's why I believe it's so intriguing 00:50:16.45\00:50:19.40 when you read the story in John Chapter 11. 00:50:19.41\00:50:24.07 The context of it is really interesting 00:50:24.08\00:50:27.31 because Jesus is receiving a message 00:50:27.32\00:50:31.48 from the home of Lazarus that "the one who he loves," 00:50:31.49\00:50:35.98 verse 3, "is sick." And they want the master 00:50:35.99\00:50:39.21 to come as you said he waits four days 00:50:39.22\00:50:41.84 and as Jesus continues to minister 00:50:41.85\00:50:44.79 with his disciples and seemingly ignores 00:50:44.80\00:50:48.44 the request seemingly and wait couple of days, 00:50:48.45\00:50:50.67 because the journey was two days to the house. 00:50:50.68\00:50:53.32 So then in verse 11, He says to his disciples, 00:50:53.33\00:50:58.86 "Our friend Lazarus sleeps, 00:50:58.87\00:51:02.10 but I'm going to awake him out of sleep." 00:51:02.11\00:51:04.22 That's right, exactly. Asleep, 00:51:04.23\00:51:05.82 asleep and disciples said to him, 00:51:05.83\00:51:07.36 "oh, if he's sleeping, he's doing well." 00:51:07.37\00:51:09.53 You know if you get sick, if you're tired, 00:51:09.54\00:51:11.04 if you're not feeling good, I'll go rest, you'll do well. 00:51:11.05\00:51:13.86 That's right. So the disciples were thinking 00:51:13.87\00:51:15.06 the way that, the way that they are taking 00:51:15.07\00:51:17.18 as Jesus is telling them that Lazarus is having a nap, 00:51:17.19\00:51:20.96 he's sleeping, he's resting. 00:51:20.97\00:51:22.78 How be it, verse 13, "Jesus spoke of his death" 00:51:22.79\00:51:27.48 He was, Jesus here is telling us 00:51:27.49\00:51:30.09 that death is like a sleep. That's right. 00:51:30.10\00:51:32.86 In the whole Bible, reiterates this over and over again, 00:51:32.87\00:51:37.29 death is like a sleep and our friend Lazarus 00:51:37.30\00:51:40.91 is sleeping but they didn't get it. 00:51:40.92\00:51:42.04 "So Jesus finally says to them plainly" 00:51:42.05\00:51:43.96 verse 14, "Lazarus is dead." 00:51:43.97\00:51:46.18 He's dead and he's been dead four days already 00:51:46.19\00:51:49.21 when Jesus gets there, so it's powerful 00:51:49.22\00:51:51.28 when you think about that because 00:51:51.29\00:51:52.26 when I think about sleep, like last night I got to bed late 00:51:52.27\00:51:54.77 'coz I'm on a two hour time change here, 00:51:54.78\00:51:56.56 it's hard for me to go to sleep early, 00:51:56.57\00:51:58.22 so I got to sleep late but when I woke up, 00:51:58.23\00:52:00.60 boom, I was later totally unaware 00:52:00.61\00:52:05.17 that several hours had passed by until 00:52:05.18\00:52:07.50 I woke up in the morning and that's the way sleep is. 00:52:07.51\00:52:10.68 When you go to sleep you're unaware of the time 00:52:10.69\00:52:13.68 that has passed, sure enough they rough nicely. 00:52:13.69\00:52:16.00 You're unaware the time is passing 00:52:16.01\00:52:17.85 and you wake up in the morning, 00:52:17.86\00:52:19.31 then many hours have gone by, several hours have gone by 00:52:19.32\00:52:22.33 that you're totally unconscious off. 00:52:22.34\00:52:24.12 That's right. That's why when you look at that context, 00:52:24.13\00:52:26.17 we go back to the Ecclesiastes 12 verse 7, 00:52:26.18\00:52:32.62 "Then shall the dust return to the earth 00:52:32.63\00:52:34.28 as it was, and then spirit returns to God who gave it." 00:52:34.29\00:52:37.24 David the Psalmist adds his portion to that 00:52:37.25\00:52:39.49 in Psalms 146 verse 4, "His spirit departs" 00:52:39.50\00:52:45.61 but now it gives you direction where the man goes. 00:52:45.62\00:52:48.72 "He returns to his earth. Okay. 00:52:48.73\00:52:52.09 In that very day his thoughts perish." 00:52:52.10\00:52:54.32 I--illustrate this for me. 00:52:54.33\00:52:55.83 I mean let's look at something 00:52:55.84\00:52:57.14 that illustrates this idea of two things 00:52:57.15\00:53:00.91 coming together to create something new 00:53:00.92\00:53:03.34 and then when they are parted, 00:53:03.35\00:53:04.61 that new thing that they've created is gone. 00:53:04.62\00:53:07.31 Okay, go ahead. I was thinking of a light. 00:53:07.32\00:53:10.11 Yeah, where I'm saying there's a little lamp 00:53:10.12\00:53:12.34 that I unplugged and moved to different location 00:53:12.35\00:53:16.03 and I'll think about the spirit as the power source, 00:53:16.04\00:53:18.95 the electricity, that's what why I'm plugging it into. 00:53:18.96\00:53:21.82 And then I think about the light bulb itself, 00:53:21.83\00:53:24.51 because there are several lights in this little apartment 00:53:24.52\00:53:27.72 I'm staying in that have no bulbs, 00:53:27.73\00:53:30.55 they'd just redone it 00:53:30.56\00:53:31.94 and had different lights here and there, 00:53:31.95\00:53:33.43 and I went to turn one on and it wouldn't turn on, 00:53:33.44\00:53:35.16 I thought maybe it's not plugged in, 00:53:35.17\00:53:36.23 but it was plugged out. I looked and there is no bulbs, 00:53:36.24\00:53:37.49 I look in, there is no bulbs. 00:53:37.50\00:53:38.74 You can have the power, but if you don't have a bulb, 00:53:38.75\00:53:40.70 if you don't have a body for that power to connect 00:53:40.71\00:53:44.45 to and be set up in such a way that illumines, 00:53:44.46\00:53:47.25 there aren't going to be light, so you have the power, 00:53:47.26\00:53:49.75 you have the body and when you turn the switch 00:53:49.76\00:53:52.78 and connect those two, you have light. 00:53:52.79\00:53:55.06 Now if you have, this illustration, 00:53:55.07\00:53:57.92 if you have the electricity representing the spirit 00:53:57.93\00:54:01.63 and the light bulb, you know, 00:54:01.64\00:54:03.16 fixed to the center representing the body 00:54:03.17\00:54:05.42 that would be a perfect illustration 00:54:05.43\00:54:07.39 what happens when you turn that power switch on, 00:54:07.40\00:54:09.44 you have light, the light is the soul. 00:54:09.45\00:54:11.33 That's right. The light is the soul. 00:54:11.34\00:54:13.09 And if you turn the power switch off, 00:54:13.10\00:54:14.52 if you disconnect the spirit, the electricity from the bulb, 00:54:14.53\00:54:18.24 the light no longer exists. That's right. 00:54:18.25\00:54:21.37 Where did it go? It resides in its source. 00:54:21.38\00:54:26.90 Yes. That's the key. 00:54:26.91\00:54:28.36 It resides in its source. 00:54:28.37\00:54:30.67 Now the bulb is not residing in the source, 00:54:30.68\00:54:34.66 the power is residing in the source. 00:54:34.67\00:54:37.11 And so when you think about that, 00:54:37.12\00:54:38.58 that's why he says, Psalms 146 verse 4, 00:54:38.59\00:54:43.45 "He returns to his earth, 00:54:43.46\00:54:45.13 in that very day his plans perish." 00:54:45.14\00:54:47.46 And so Job, before we wind up this part of the program, 00:54:47.47\00:54:51.05 Job adds his portion to that. 00:54:51.06\00:54:54.47 There's so often we leave out the Old Testament Bible writers 00:54:54.48\00:54:58.57 and these things are reiterated in the New Testament. 00:54:58.58\00:55:00.75 We'll look at Job 14 real quickly. 00:55:00.76\00:55:03.19 And he answers this so wonderfully in Job Chapter 14. 00:55:03.20\00:55:10.37 He starts in verse 7, he says, 00:55:10.38\00:55:12.18 "For there is hope for a tree, 00:55:12.19\00:55:14.99 if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, 00:55:15.00\00:55:18.20 and that its tender shoots will not cease." 00:55:18.21\00:55:21.71 But now, we're gonna go to verse 12 00:55:21.72\00:55:25.54 or verse 11 or verse 10, 00:55:25.55\00:55:29.74 "But man dies and is laid away, 00:55:29.75\00:55:31.97 indeed he breathes his last breath, and where is he? 00:55:31.98\00:55:35.29 As water disappears from the sea, 00:55:35.30\00:55:37.11 and the river becomes parched and dries up, 00:55:37.12\00:55:38.86 so man lies down and rises not 00:55:38.87\00:55:41.70 or does not rise till the heavens are no more, 00:55:41.71\00:55:44.69 they will not awake nor be raised from their sleep." 00:55:44.70\00:55:47.93 It's that word again, awake, 00:55:47.94\00:55:49.10 and there's a question, where is he? 00:55:49.11\00:55:50.36 What happened to the life? Right, where is he? 00:55:50.37\00:55:52.36 And so when you think about that, 00:55:52.37\00:55:54.38 he says, and look at verse 13, 00:55:54.39\00:55:56.43 "Oh, that You would hide me in the grave, 00:55:56.44\00:55:58.43 that You would conceal me until Your wrath is past." 00:55:58.44\00:56:01.07 So where's man being hidden? In the grave. 00:56:01.08\00:56:03.27 In the grave. Rest in peace. 00:56:03.28\00:56:05.33 Okay, we walk away from the cemetery, rest in peace. 00:56:05.34\00:56:08.72 Brother, if somebody follows you home, 00:56:08.73\00:56:10.55 I'm gonna just tell you right now on the word of God 00:56:10.56\00:56:12.51 that is not your mom, that's not your dad, 00:56:12.52\00:56:14.46 that's not your friend, that's an apparition. 00:56:14.47\00:56:17.66 If you go back home and you smell some fragrant 00:56:17.67\00:56:19.50 in the house that was sprayed on that corpse 00:56:19.51\00:56:21.85 when they were in the funeral pyre, 00:56:21.86\00:56:23.08 that Satan attempted to get in. Now before we end this, 00:56:23.09\00:56:26.04 could you turn to Job 27 verse 3 very quickly. 00:56:26.05\00:56:28.56 I want you to read that in the King James Version. 00:56:28.57\00:56:30.32 This is very powerful 00:56:30.33\00:56:31.67 because when God breathes into Adam's nostrils, 00:56:31.68\00:56:34.74 He put something there, read that verse. 00:56:34.75\00:56:36.99 Verse 3 of Job 27, "All the while my breath is in me, 00:56:37.00\00:56:41.83 and the spirit of God is in my nostrils." 00:56:41.84\00:56:44.07 Exactly what God it. Okay, yes. 00:56:44.08\00:56:46.00 See, He breathe into man's nostrils the breath of life, 00:56:46.01\00:56:49.07 the Spirit of God is in my nostril. 00:56:49.08\00:56:50.93 Now I can give you mouth to mouth to keep you alive, 00:56:50.94\00:56:54.12 but I can never give you life. 00:56:54.13\00:56:55.63 Yes, you can't give me the Spirit of God. 00:56:55.64\00:56:57.38 That's right. I can't put the Spirit of God in your body. 00:56:57.39\00:56:59.74 And so friends as you can see this is a very powerful topic. 00:56:59.75\00:57:02.15 We've just started this topic, 00:57:02.16\00:57:04.13 but the soul is the combination of the breath of God 00:57:04.14\00:57:10.28 and the dust of the earth 00:57:10.29\00:57:12.06 and there is nothing eternal about that. 00:57:12.07\00:57:14.27 You'll discover in our next broadcast 00:57:14.28\00:57:16.18 when we cover this topic in greater detail, 00:57:16.19\00:57:18.18 that right now we have the promise of immortality 00:57:18.19\00:57:20.68 but only God has immortality. Amen, amen. 00:57:20.69\00:57:23.22 And so James, good to have here today. 00:57:23.23\00:57:24.76 You can adjoin me for some future programs too, right? 00:57:24.77\00:57:26.64 Absolutely, love to do it. 00:57:26.65\00:57:27.92 Well friends, keep your Bibles near to you, 00:57:27.93\00:57:29.62 keep Christ in your heart until we see you again. 00:57:29.63\00:57:31.58 May the Lord continue to richly bless you. 00:57:31.59\00:57:34.03
