Wow. 00:02:46.15\00:02:49.24 "I prayed and I'm not sure if I'm correct 00:02:50.66\00:02:53.70 in my understanding of this text and what it means. 00:02:53.71\00:02:56.82 'Were of old', does that mean..." 00:02:58.11\00:03:01.05 That's the word, "were of old". 00:03:01.06\00:03:02.80 "Does that mean 'from the beginning?' 00:03:02.81\00:03:06.92 "And here is the text. 00:03:06.93\00:03:08.10 Go with us to 2nd Peter Chapter 3 and verse 5. 00:03:08.11\00:03:12.16 This is the passage that they're addressing. 00:03:12.17\00:03:14.23 "Earth standing out of the water 00:03:15.59\00:03:18.87 and in the water is this before the flood 00:03:18.88\00:03:22.43 and during the flood." 00:03:24.39\00:03:25.93 I think they mean 'or during the flood'. 00:03:25.94\00:03:28.65 Read the passages read the verses before that, 00:03:31.02\00:03:33.69 John, and the verses after that. 00:03:33.70\00:03:35.95 One of the most important things 00:03:35.96\00:03:37.61 we try to do is keep it into context. 00:03:37.62\00:03:40.05 The picture develops very clearly like a puzzle, 00:03:40.06\00:03:46.19 when you have more pieces put together, it's right. 00:03:46.20\00:03:49.13 Let me read starting verse 3, all right. 00:03:49.14\00:03:51.33 "Knowing this first: 00:03:51.34\00:03:52.33 that scoffers will come in the last days, 00:03:52.34\00:03:55.74 walking according to their own lusts, 00:03:55.75\00:03:58.01 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? 00:03:58.02\00:04:01.43 For since the fathers fell asleep, 00:04:01.44\00:04:03.18 all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. 00:04:03.19\00:04:07.55 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God 00:04:07.56\00:04:11.36 the heavens were of old, 00:04:11.37\00:04:13.34 and the earth standing out of the water 00:04:13.35\00:04:15.53 and in the water, by which the world 00:04:15.54\00:04:18.44 that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 00:04:18.45\00:04:22.49 But the heavens and the earth 00:04:23.41\00:04:24.84 which are now preserved by the same word, 00:04:24.85\00:04:26.98 are reserved for fire until the day of judgment 00:04:26.99\00:04:30.03 and perdition of ungodly men." okay. 00:04:30.04\00:04:32.79 And so to give an answer it means actually both. 00:04:32.80\00:04:37.00 The earth was standing out of the water 00:04:37.01\00:04:39.62 and then the earth was in the water. 00:04:39.63\00:04:42.27 You find the reference made here 00:04:42.28\00:04:43.85 because two of the verses separate that. 00:04:43.86\00:04:45.33 It speaks of the point you made "were of old". 00:04:45.34\00:04:50.58 "That by the word of God the heavens were of old, 00:04:51.66\00:04:55.86 and the earth standing out of the water and in the water. 00:04:55.87\00:05:00.14 By which." In other words, because of this, 00:05:00.15\00:05:02.64 that's how the flood was possible. 00:05:02.65\00:05:05.04 And I'm accede verse 6 00:05:05.05\00:05:06.40 as the reiteration of that, right. 00:05:06.41\00:05:08.89 Because the verse 6 has repeats the same thing. 00:05:08.90\00:05:11.05 "The world that then existed", 00:05:11.06\00:05:12.69 which is out of the water, 00:05:12.70\00:05:14.52 "being flooded with water" in the water. 00:05:14.53\00:05:16.76 It's a repeating of the statement 00:05:16.77\00:05:19.20 from the prior verse, right. 00:05:19.21\00:05:20.92 Simply meaning as you know today a lot of floods exists 00:05:20.93\00:05:23.84 because the water has overflowed their boundaries. 00:05:23.85\00:05:27.15 This was something greater 00:05:27.16\00:05:28.38 and far more applicable than that. 00:05:28.39\00:05:30.43 Which we know to be the great deluge or the means 00:05:30.44\00:05:33.98 by which the Antediluvian World was destroyed by the flood 00:05:33.99\00:05:37.74 and so that's pretty simple and to the point. 00:05:37.75\00:05:40.49 Yeah, and I think the whole thing is driving 00:05:40.50\00:05:42.41 to the fact that at the end of the world 00:05:42.42\00:05:44.20 it will not be flooded again, right. 00:05:44.21\00:05:46.28 But that it's reserved for fire this time. 00:05:46.29\00:05:47.94 And the context is that scoffers are saying, 00:05:48.81\00:05:51.42 "This won't happen. 00:05:51.43\00:05:52.98 There's no coming and there's no sign of Jesus coming again." 00:05:52.99\00:05:55.72 Which we see today. 00:05:55.73\00:05:56.72 We have many today in the world that are saying, 00:05:56.73\00:05:58.48 "Well, I don't see the end of the world. 00:05:58.49\00:05:59.78 We just have a few problems and, 00:05:59.79\00:06:01.21 yeah, I mean, the problems or substantial hurdles, 00:06:01.22\00:06:03.57 but, you know, the world ebbs and flows. 00:06:03.58\00:06:05.75 We have these climate changes 00:06:05.76\00:06:06.89 that we've seen in the past overtime. 00:06:06.90\00:06:08.80 It's not really coming to an end." 00:06:08.81\00:06:10.94 And that's, in fact, what Peter is saying-- 00:06:10.95\00:06:13.36 that they'll say that, but then it will end. 00:06:13.37\00:06:15.99 And the other thing... 00:06:16.00\00:06:18.20 this opens the lot of doors here. 00:06:18.21\00:06:19.57 The other thing is this world is not being, 00:06:19.58\00:06:22.18 the Lord is not coming back 00:06:22.19\00:06:23.43 to this world to walk in this world. 00:06:23.44\00:06:26.94 Any more than He came to the world of the Antediluvians 00:06:26.95\00:06:31.04 to walk in amongst them and save those 00:06:31.05\00:06:33.62 who were on the earth. 00:06:33.63\00:06:35.80 The purpose of it is to destroy by fire the next time. 00:06:35.81\00:06:39.36 The reason I say that, John, is because there are some 00:06:39.37\00:06:41.49 who believe that there is going to be 00:06:41.50\00:06:44.74 this thousand year earthly reign of Christ. 00:06:44.75\00:06:48.31 That's why there's such push on getting the world 00:06:48.32\00:06:51.89 balanced in its ozone layers and making sure that, 00:06:51.90\00:06:55.63 we don't pollute the land for our children in the future. 00:06:55.64\00:06:59.46 I know that there are other benefits to that, 00:06:59.47\00:07:01.78 by having clean water and clean air. 00:07:01.79\00:07:04.44 We don't want to just go nuts and just destroy the land. 00:07:04.45\00:07:07.30 Because the Bible did say in Revelation 11, 00:07:07.31\00:07:09.30 "I will destroy those who destroy the earth." 00:07:09.31\00:07:11.75 But it's actually showing that God is not coming back 00:07:11.76\00:07:16.03 to reform or to live down here with us. 00:07:16.04\00:07:21.10 He's coming back to take us where He is, 00:07:21.11\00:07:23.59 preparing home for us. 00:07:23.60\00:07:25.28 And so this world is getting ripe for destruction 00:07:25.29\00:07:28.02 and the context of that, 00:07:28.03\00:07:29.10 whole thing is don't be confused. 00:07:29.11\00:07:32.53 God made a promise the last time to destroy the world 00:07:32.54\00:07:35.01 and He made a promise this time to destroy it, 00:07:35.02\00:07:37.69 and as He fulfilled the last promise, 00:07:37.70\00:07:39.66 He's gonna fulfill this promise. 00:07:39.67\00:07:40.97 That's the whole context of that passage, yeah. 00:07:40.98\00:07:43.19 It almost kind of conjures up the thought to me, 00:07:43.20\00:07:45.39 at least as you were talking, 00:07:45.40\00:07:46.75 that how sometimes people that need to be saved 00:07:46.76\00:07:50.43 or want to be saved, 00:07:50.44\00:07:51.43 how they try to clean themselves up, oh, yeah. 00:07:51.44\00:07:53.92 So that Jesus can then accept them. 00:07:53.93\00:07:56.90 But we know that, that model doesn't work. 00:07:56.91\00:07:58.57 You come to Jesus as you are, 00:07:58.58\00:08:00.25 repenting and confessing your sins. 00:08:00.26\00:08:03.14 And then Jesus does the cleaning up. 00:08:03.15\00:08:05.10 So in this respect we're not here in this world 00:08:05.11\00:08:08.23 to somehow get it ready 00:08:08.24\00:08:10.75 so that we can kind of hand it to Him 00:08:10.76\00:08:12.37 when He comes to reign on His throne on this earth. 00:08:12.38\00:08:15.30 No, He's coming down on this earth 00:08:15.31\00:08:16.63 to then take His people... 00:08:16.64\00:08:19.05 that in the second coming, it says that His feet won't 00:08:19.06\00:08:21.49 even touch the ground. 00:08:21.50\00:08:23.16 That in the second coming 00:08:23.17\00:08:24.38 He will catch us up to meet Him in the air. 00:08:24.39\00:08:28.03 And then take us with Him to where He is in heaven. 00:08:28.04\00:08:32.52 And of course that's a fulfillment 00:08:32.53\00:08:34.32 of John Chapter 14 verses 1 to 3. 00:08:34.33\00:08:37.34 So clearly, He's not coming down to establish 00:08:37.35\00:08:39.60 His kingdom here. 00:08:39.61\00:08:40.60 It's gonna be destroyed by fire at his return. 00:08:40.61\00:08:42.68 People will be consumed by the brightness of his presence 00:08:42.69\00:08:46.46 and then He will take all those who are righteous, 00:08:46.47\00:08:49.00 that have been saved, 00:08:49.01\00:08:50.17 with him to live with him in heaven 00:08:50.18\00:08:52.38 through the thousand years. 00:08:52.39\00:08:53.59 Okay, very good one. What do you have for us? 00:08:53.60\00:08:56.24 I have a question here 00:08:56.25\00:08:57.43 asking for clarification on two scriptures 00:08:57.44\00:08:59.55 that are somewhat compatible here with the discussion 00:08:59.56\00:09:03.07 we've already begun. 00:09:03.08\00:09:04.98 And that is Ephesians 4:8 through 10 00:09:04.99\00:09:08.87 and comparing that with 1st Thessalonians 4:13 to 18. 00:09:08.88\00:09:14.21 And so this is Linda who's asking us 00:09:14.22\00:09:18.98 to explain or expound on these thought provoking passages. 00:09:18.99\00:09:25.09 Are there differences 00:09:25.10\00:09:27.12 or is there harmony between these two? 00:09:27.13\00:09:29.63 And so let me read first of all from Ephesians Chapter 4, 00:09:29.64\00:09:33.24 verses 8 through 10. 00:09:33.25\00:09:35.11 It says, "Therefore He says: 00:09:38.60\00:09:42.13 "When He ascended on high, 00:09:42.14\00:09:44.85 He led captivity captive and gave gifts to men. 00:09:44.86\00:09:51.04 Now this, He ascended what does it mean 00:09:51.05\00:09:54.73 but that He also first descended 00:09:54.74\00:09:56.86 into the lower parts of the earth? 00:09:56.87\00:09:59.53 He who descended is also the One who ascended 00:09:59.54\00:10:03.80 far above all the heavens, that He might fit all things." 00:10:03.81\00:10:08.10 Okay, so what it's saying here is that, 00:10:09.19\00:10:12.46 talking about Christ's ascension that he ascended on high. 00:10:12.47\00:10:15.86 It means ascended in... 00:10:15.87\00:10:17.09 Paul, Apostle Paul is clarifying this, 00:10:17.10\00:10:18.96 it means ascended because first he descended 00:10:18.97\00:10:21.65 to the lower parts of the earth. 00:10:21.66\00:10:23.53 And now he could be talking about a couple of things here. 00:10:23.54\00:10:27.03 That He simply came down to this earth 00:10:27.04\00:10:29.65 from the glories of heaven to begin to live out 00:10:29.66\00:10:33.62 the life of righteousness for us, 00:10:33.63\00:10:36.12 die on the cross for us, 00:10:36.13\00:10:37.65 paying the penalty for our sins. 00:10:37.66\00:10:39.53 And then so He had the right then 00:10:39.54\00:10:41.38 to re-ascend to heaven in our behalf 00:10:41.39\00:10:45.13 and to mediate the benefits of the redemption 00:10:45.14\00:10:48.46 He achieved while He was here on this earth. 00:10:48.47\00:10:50.91 So speaking of that, or it could also be 00:10:50.92\00:10:52.78 the added element of the fact that when He came to this earth, 00:10:52.79\00:10:55.44 not only He did he die for us on the cross 00:10:55.45\00:10:57.38 but that He rested for three graves-- 00:10:57.39\00:10:59.90 three days in the tomb in the grave 00:10:59.91\00:11:02.54 that was the lower parts of the earth. 00:11:02.55\00:11:04.35 So either way I don't have a problem 00:11:04.36\00:11:06.71 with that interpretation. 00:11:06.72\00:11:08.11 So the question is how does that harmonize 00:11:08.12\00:11:10.49 with 1st Thessalonians Chapter 4, verses, 00:11:10.50\00:11:16.43 what is it, 13 to 18. 00:11:16.44\00:11:18.74 Do you have that one, John? 00:11:18.75\00:11:19.86 Yes, I got you there. 00:11:19.87\00:11:21.49 Okay 1st Thessalonians Chapter 4, verse 13 to 18, 00:11:22.37\00:11:25.71 okay, here we are. 00:11:25.72\00:11:27.63 And to read is follow as, 00:11:27.64\00:11:29.12 "But I do not want you to be ignorant 00:11:29.13\00:11:30.64 brother and concerning those who have fallen asleep, 00:11:30.65\00:11:33.06 lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 00:11:33.07\00:11:37.19 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, 00:11:37.20\00:11:39.62 even so God will bring with Him with those who sleep in Jesus. 00:11:39.63\00:11:43.69 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord 00:11:43.70\00:11:46.31 that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of Lord 00:11:46.32\00:11:49.36 will by no means precede those who are asleep. 00:11:49.37\00:11:52.61 For the Lord himself will descend 00:11:52.62\00:11:54.29 from heaven with a shout, 00:11:54.30\00:11:55.29 with a voice of an Archangel 00:11:55.30\00:11:57.37 and with the trumpet of God 00:11:57.38\00:11:59.51 and the dead in Christ will rise first. 00:11:59.52\00:12:02.81 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up 00:12:02.82\00:12:05.28 together with them in the clouds 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.10 to meet the Lord in the air thus 00:12:07.11\00:12:10.83 we shall always be with the Lord. 00:12:10.84\00:12:13.30 Therefore, comfort one another with these words." all right. 00:12:13.31\00:12:18.15 So when looking at these two verses, 00:12:18.16\00:12:19.94 we're actually talking about 00:12:19.95\00:12:21.01 a couple different things here, okay. 00:12:21.02\00:12:22.88 Number one, the first passage in Ephesians Chapter 4 00:12:22.89\00:12:25.62 is referring to Christ coming to this earth 00:12:25.63\00:12:28.25 to become our savior and our Lord, our redeemer. 00:12:28.26\00:12:32.73 The one that was going to live out 00:12:32.74\00:12:34.17 that perfect life in our behalf-- 00:12:34.18\00:12:36.79 the life that we cannot live perfectly ourselves-- 00:12:36.80\00:12:39.48 and to die on the cross to pay the penalty of the sin, 00:12:39.49\00:12:42.37 for the sins that we have committed. 00:12:42.38\00:12:44.76 And then, of course, after resting in the grave, 00:12:44.77\00:12:47.58 then going to heaven as he indicated 00:12:47.59\00:12:49.90 in John Chapter 14 that he says, 00:12:49.91\00:12:51.75 "I am going to prepare a place for you." 00:12:51.76\00:12:53.81 In other words, "I'm going back to heaven 00:12:53.82\00:12:55.04 to prepare a place for you. 00:12:55.05\00:12:56.15 But when I come again, 00:12:56.16\00:12:57.44 I will receive you to myself 00:12:57.45\00:12:59.12 that where I am, you may be also." 00:12:59.13\00:13:01.70 Well, that part receiving Him, us to himself, 00:13:01.71\00:13:05.67 to be where He went, 00:13:05.68\00:13:07.05 which is where he ascended in heaven. 00:13:07.06\00:13:08.90 That's what 1st Thessalonians Chapter 4 is talking about. 00:13:08.91\00:13:12.26 So when He comes down, 00:13:12.27\00:13:14.17 he's going to call us up with his great voice, 00:13:14.18\00:13:17.30 the voice of Archangel, with a trumpet of God, 00:13:17.31\00:13:19.79 and resurrect the living, 00:13:19.80\00:13:21.46 the saints and then also catch up 00:13:21.47\00:13:24.46 or rapture up at that time. 00:13:24.47\00:13:26.54 The rapture makes sense. 00:13:26.55\00:13:27.77 It's not a secret rapture, 00:13:27.78\00:13:29.18 its an audible visible calling up 00:13:29.19\00:13:31.33 to meet him in the air 00:13:31.34\00:13:33.17 and then returning with both the resurrected saints 00:13:33.18\00:13:35.96 and the saints who are alive 00:13:35.97\00:13:36.96 and remain to heaven to live with Him 00:13:36.97\00:13:39.51 during the thousand years. 00:13:39.52\00:13:40.88 So these scriptures are very much in harmony 00:13:40.89\00:13:42.92 with each other, that's right. 00:13:42.93\00:13:44.26 Ephesians 4 preceding 1st Thessalonians Chapter 4 00:13:44.27\00:13:47.68 which is coming back to this earth to receive His saints. 00:13:47.69\00:13:52.47 I wanted to add to that one of the, 00:13:52.48\00:13:55.88 one of the beauties of the word God is. 00:13:55.89\00:13:58.23 There are no mysteries there, 00:13:58.24\00:13:59.39 but sometimes when you grapple with particular scriptures, 00:13:59.40\00:14:02.81 you have to put all the components together 00:14:02.82\00:14:05.19 as Ephesians brings in some components of the resurrection. 00:14:05.20\00:14:09.23 1st Thessalonians brings in components of the resurrection 00:14:09.24\00:14:12.96 and in reality the resurrection is one of the topics. 00:14:12.97\00:14:15.23 It's as very very vaguely 00:14:15.24\00:14:17.96 or hardly talked about at all today in many churches. 00:14:17.97\00:14:20.96 It's die, go to heaven. Die, go straight to heaven. 00:14:20.97\00:14:25.49 Die, go to the place of burning. 00:14:25.50\00:14:28.32 But the Bible has the strong foundation 00:14:28.33\00:14:31.46 which teaches there's gonna be a resurrection 00:14:31.47\00:14:34.12 and we're gonna all go to heaven together 00:14:34.13\00:14:36.63 as Hebrews-- one of the passages 00:14:36.64\00:14:38.67 I want to add to that is in the Book of Hebrews. 00:14:38.68\00:14:41.09 Go over with me to the Book of Hebrews Chapter 11 00:14:41.10\00:14:43.18 and the faith chapter. 00:14:44.31\00:14:46.62 Hebrew 11, verse 35, it speaks of a better resurrection 00:14:49.17\00:14:56.24 and the better resurrection is the first resurrection. 00:14:56.25\00:14:59.64 It says, "Women received their dead raised to life again: 00:14:59.65\00:15:04.49 and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; 00:15:04.50\00:15:08.02 that they might obtain a better resurrection." 00:15:08.03\00:15:11.71 And there it says verse 39, 00:15:11.72\00:15:13.95 "And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, 00:15:13.96\00:15:20.13 did not receive the promise." 00:15:20.14\00:15:22.26 And verse 40, "God having provided 00:15:22.27\00:15:25.30 something better for us, 00:15:25.31\00:15:27.08 that they should not be made perfect apart from us." 00:15:27.09\00:15:31.96 You know, the better resurrection 00:15:31.97\00:15:34.48 is not talked about. 00:15:34.49\00:15:35.48 You don't hear any sermons about the resurrection. 00:15:35.49\00:15:39.94 You don't. Because this concept 00:15:39.95\00:15:41.71 has taken over that people die 00:15:41.72\00:15:43.67 and just float off very early to heaven in the spirit form. 00:15:43.68\00:15:48.04 Resurrection almost has become 00:15:48.05\00:15:49.43 unimportant to the Christian world, right. 00:15:49.44\00:15:51.54 When it was the Christian world's greatest hope. 00:15:51.55\00:15:54.82 Matter of fact the great magazine cover would be, 00:15:54.83\00:15:57.10 you know, you see like, 00:15:57.11\00:15:59.64 you know, the road sings in front of you. 00:15:59.65\00:16:01.70 And it says, "detour" straight to heaven. 00:16:01.71\00:16:05.70 Because the road might be on that detour 00:16:05.71\00:16:07.70 sign will be the resurrection. 00:16:07.71\00:16:09.70 "Enter here to wait for the resurrection." 00:16:09.71\00:16:11.75 But then you have another sign right below, "Detour. 00:16:11.76\00:16:13.76 Go straight to heaven". "Detour". 00:16:13.77\00:16:16.45 Yeah, we I would strongly encourage all of our viewers 00:16:16.46\00:16:19.46 our listeners to read very carefully 00:16:19.47\00:16:21.15 the entire Chapter of 1st Corinthians Chapter 15. 00:16:21.16\00:16:24.18 It's all about the resurrection. 00:16:24.19\00:16:25.18 And what it says throughout that chapter, 00:16:25.19\00:16:27.74 how we are all basically waiting for this resurrection 00:16:27.75\00:16:32.05 to happen to meet up with for that great reunion in sky 00:16:32.06\00:16:36.42 that we just read about. 00:16:36.43\00:16:37.42 Which is 1st Thessalonians 4, 00:16:37.43\00:16:40.11 the great reunion in the sky amongst both those 00:16:40.12\00:16:42.82 who have died before us 00:16:42.83\00:16:44.99 and those who are alive at the time of Christ return. 00:16:45.00\00:16:47.84 We want to be resurrected to meet others, 00:16:47.85\00:16:50.26 to meet our friends, to meet our family members, 00:16:50.27\00:16:52.18 to meet our loved ones in the air to go to heaven 00:16:52.19\00:16:55.20 with them at the same time. 00:16:55.21\00:16:57.56 That is the beautiful picture of the resurrection 00:16:57.57\00:17:01.61 and what its formed is that great day of the 2nd coming, 00:17:01.62\00:17:03.94 the redemption of Christ 00:17:03.95\00:17:04.96 when he comes to redeem us from this world 00:17:04.97\00:17:08.76 and to take us from its sin 00:17:08.77\00:17:10.52 and so what a beautiful picture he has established for us. 00:17:10.53\00:17:14.59 For the conclusion of this age of sin. 00:17:14.60\00:17:17.18 But yet, the Christian world has kind of done 00:17:17.19\00:17:20.20 into the incredible disservice by saying, 00:17:20.21\00:17:21.81 "Well, everybody is already in heaven already, 00:17:21.82\00:17:24.10 and that, you know, the only thing 00:17:24.11\00:17:25.98 the resurrection is for is so we can take, 00:17:25.99\00:17:28.38 God can take the souls from heaven 00:17:28.39\00:17:30.44 put them down into bodies now, 00:17:30.45\00:17:32.17 that are being raised to go back to heaven." 00:17:32.18\00:17:34.08 You know, there is no evidence in the scriptures, 00:17:34.09\00:17:36.44 John, of anybody living without a body in heaven. 00:17:36.45\00:17:40.08 No, there is not. 00:17:40.09\00:17:41.08 There is not one, 00:17:41.09\00:17:42.08 there is not one verse. Very good point. 00:17:42.09\00:17:43.73 Of someone living in heaven without a body, that's right. 00:17:43.74\00:17:47.23 So to say this soul is conscious existing in heaven. 00:17:47.24\00:17:50.46 Without its body because it won't be receive 00:17:50.47\00:17:53.71 its glorified body into a resurrection. 00:17:53.72\00:17:55.62 It is a teaching that is nowhere in scripture. 00:17:55.63\00:17:58.37 You're right. 00:17:58.38\00:17:59.37 And so I really I don't know, 00:17:59.38\00:18:02.02 I kind of know where it's coming from, 00:18:02.03\00:18:03.83 I should say. But I don't understand 00:18:03.84\00:18:06.29 the real basis or the foundation for its teaching 00:18:06.30\00:18:09.01 because it seems to be rely on just a couple verses 00:18:09.02\00:18:12.41 that are interpreted in this way 00:18:12.42\00:18:14.97 because already of the conclusion 00:18:14.98\00:18:17.03 that the person studying the scriptures has arrived at. 00:18:17.04\00:18:19.80 Which is, "Well, people are already in heaven." 00:18:19.81\00:18:21.47 So this verse is telling us that this is when it happens. 00:18:21.48\00:18:25.21 But in no way do we find 00:18:25.22\00:18:27.26 any supporting scripture for that. 00:18:27.27\00:18:29.68 I am actually glad you mentioned 00:18:29.69\00:18:30.94 that because there are certain things in the Bible, 00:18:30.95\00:18:32.55 if you take a scripture all by itself 00:18:32.56\00:18:34.38 and don't build a support around it, 00:18:34.39\00:18:36.45 you could almost make it sound like its saying 00:18:36.46\00:18:39.26 something other than what it really says. 00:18:39.27\00:18:41.07 That's why, you know, Isaiah says, 00:18:41.08\00:18:42.96 "here a little, there a little, 00:18:42.97\00:18:44.08 line upon line, precept on precept" 00:18:44.09\00:18:46.32 and one person once said its impossible 00:18:46.33\00:18:49.08 or it's dangerous to build 00:18:49.09\00:18:50.31 a whole doctrine on one scripture. 00:18:50.32\00:18:53.81 In particular, the topic of what happened 00:18:53.82\00:18:55.67 when a person dies. 00:18:55.68\00:18:57.03 The Bible gives so much clear evidence 00:18:58.36\00:19:01.28 as to what happens when they die. 00:19:01.29\00:19:03.75 Where they return, to what they are not doing. 00:19:03.76\00:19:08.12 Even in Job 14 it says, 00:19:08.13\00:19:11.24 "if a man dies, will he live again?" 00:19:11.25\00:19:13.51 It says in Ecclesiastes, "he died and where is he?" 00:19:16.30\00:19:19.94 and then it goes to the very next verse 00:19:19.95\00:19:21.41 and answers that. 00:19:21.42\00:19:22.73 "The living know that they would die, 00:19:22.74\00:19:23.74 but the dead know nothing." 00:19:23.75\00:19:25.89 So it's really important, 00:19:25.90\00:19:26.97 as you pointed out at a moment ago, 00:19:26.98\00:19:29.12 to really build on that. 00:19:29.13\00:19:30.82 And because sometimes 00:19:30.83\00:19:33.31 we could be quoting scriptures in Bible. 00:19:33.32\00:19:35.09 I remember one day I got together 00:19:35.10\00:19:36.56 and I was really in my preaching mode 00:19:36.57\00:19:38.98 and somebody set me an email. 00:19:38.99\00:19:40.45 I got hung up on Isaiah 3:20. 00:19:40.46\00:19:42.41 Knowing full well in my calm mode, 00:19:42.42\00:19:46.93 that's not what it says. 00:19:46.94\00:19:49.27 But somehow that got in there, 00:19:49.28\00:19:50.58 you know, sometimes you get that. 00:19:50.59\00:19:52.23 There are some days that certain words 00:19:52.24\00:19:53.58 are hard to annunciate. 00:19:53.59\00:19:55.99 I had one of those days and I kept saying, 00:19:56.00\00:19:57.32 "Isaiah 3:20, Isaiah 3:20" somebody wrote me and said, 00:19:57.33\00:19:59.52 "It doesn't say that at all. 00:19:59.53\00:20:00.97 It doesn't say that at all." 00:20:00.98\00:20:02.46 And so contribute that to a slip of the tongue, 00:20:02.47\00:20:06.20 not so much an intent to misquote scripture, 00:20:06.21\00:20:09.77 because we do want to maintain biblical integrity. 00:20:09.78\00:20:14.12 So we thank you for those things, 00:20:14.13\00:20:15.63 and that's why I chose to mention that. 00:20:15.64\00:20:17.34 So that people can see, 00:20:17.35\00:20:18.34 yes, we are walking through the scriptures together 00:20:18.35\00:20:21.48 and we don't want to make you think 00:20:21.49\00:20:22.48 that we all have it completely together. 00:20:22.49\00:20:25.45 Anytime you want to correct us 00:20:25.46\00:20:26.60 and we accept that correction, 00:20:26.61\00:20:28.15 we will surely bring that on the air. 00:20:28.16\00:20:30.42 On my laptop, as well as on John's, 00:20:30.43\00:20:33.24 we have Bibles before us that allows us 00:20:33.25\00:20:35.66 to answer certain questions like the next one. 00:20:35.67\00:20:38.24 A really important question. 00:20:38.25\00:20:40.71 There are many translations nowadays. 00:20:40.72\00:20:43.50 You have some that are paraphrases 00:20:43.51\00:20:45.23 like today's English version. 00:20:45.24\00:20:47.01 You have some that are authoritative translations 00:20:47.02\00:20:50.29 and like New American Standard Bible. 00:20:50.30\00:20:53.94 King James Version, New King James Version. 00:20:53.95\00:20:56.80 New International Version. 00:20:56.81\00:20:58.58 I tend to shy away more from the NIV 00:20:58.59\00:21:01.45 than I do from the New King James Version, 00:21:01.46\00:21:04.45 but this individual asks, 00:21:04.46\00:21:06.07 "Greetings, I would like to know 00:21:06.08\00:21:07.66 why it is that almost everyone uses 00:21:07.67\00:21:11.30 the New King James Version Bible 00:21:11.31\00:21:13.79 and not the Old King James Version. 00:21:13.80\00:21:16.09 Looks like even the SDA leaders are teaching things 00:21:16.10\00:21:18.66 that should not be so. Or they should not be doing." 00:21:18.67\00:21:21.25 And let me give you one of the reasons. 00:21:22.11\00:21:25.38 Couple of points and we could all speak 00:21:25.39\00:21:27.63 back and forth on this issue. 00:21:27.64\00:21:29.51 The King James Version or The New King James Version 00:21:29.52\00:21:33.74 the words that are inspired are not interrupted. 00:21:33.75\00:21:39.77 Meaning, the words that are contributory 00:21:39.78\00:21:42.47 to the actual language Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic 00:21:42.48\00:21:45.86 are not interrupted at all. 00:21:45.87\00:21:48.07 But the thought is what's inspired. 00:21:48.08\00:21:50.72 That's why you find, and let me give you an example: 00:21:50.73\00:21:52.71 Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. 00:21:52.72\00:21:54.45 They will all speak of same incident 00:21:55.58\00:21:57.67 but sometimes from a different angle. 00:21:57.68\00:21:59.54 One of the great controversies that exists, 00:21:59.55\00:22:01.51 not so much in the translations, 00:22:01.52\00:22:03.19 but in the Bible itself is that why does one say, 00:22:03.20\00:22:06.63 "When Jesus rose, it was yet dark." 00:22:06.64\00:22:08.55 And the other one said, "as it began to dawn", 00:22:08.56\00:22:10.63 and the other one says "as it dawned 00:22:10.64\00:22:12.25 on the first-day of the week". 00:22:12.26\00:22:14.01 But the thing that is most significant 00:22:14.02\00:22:16.75 about the New King James Version, 00:22:16.76\00:22:18.44 it corrects and puts in the proper context 00:22:18.45\00:22:22.65 or proper grammatical setting. 00:22:22.66\00:22:26.29 Some of the words that were not correctly 00:22:26.30\00:22:28.07 so in the King James Version. Let me give you an example. 00:22:28.08\00:22:30.67 Go with me to Genesis Chapter 3 00:22:30.68\00:22:34.07 and we're gonna look at verse 5, 00:22:34.08\00:22:35.54 and I have both translations listed here on my page 00:22:35.55\00:22:39.21 so that I can read them both. 00:22:39.22\00:22:40.89 Alright? I'm gonna first read it from the King James Version. 00:22:40.90\00:22:44.38 And I'm gonna tell you how it is put. 00:22:44.39\00:22:45.73 And if you have King James Version 00:22:45.74\00:22:46.93 Bible and a New King James, 00:22:46.94\00:22:48.12 put them side by side so you could follow along 00:22:48.13\00:22:50.21 and see exactly what I mean. 00:22:50.22\00:22:52.21 Well, the discussion here 00:22:52.22\00:22:53.45 is about the fall of Adam and Eve. 00:22:53.46\00:22:55.10 And the suggestion here in verse 5 is this. 00:22:55.11\00:23:00.95 "For God doth know," this is serpent speaking to Eve 00:23:00.96\00:23:04.36 "For God doth know, that in the day ye eat thereof, 00:23:04.37\00:23:10.96 then your eyes shall be opened: 00:23:10.97\00:23:13.26 and ye shall be as gods... " plural " 00:23:13.27\00:23:17.22 knowing good and evil." 00:23:17.23\00:23:18.99 That's what the King James Version says. 00:23:19.00\00:23:21.33 But if you read the New King James Version 00:23:21.34\00:23:23.71 one of the things I wanna point out 00:23:23.72\00:23:24.98 in the King James Version, the word "gods" 00:23:24.99\00:23:27.76 is plural and its small G. 00:23:27.77\00:23:29.92 But here is where the New King James version 00:23:31.02\00:23:33.42 corrected it. "For God knows 00:23:33.43\00:23:35.70 that in the day you eat of it, 00:23:35.71\00:23:37.38 your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, 00:23:37.39\00:23:40.52 knowing good and evil." 00:23:40.53\00:23:42.11 The suggestion and the context of the passage, 00:23:42.12\00:23:44.76 Lucifer saying that you will become like God, 00:23:44.77\00:23:48.81 not that you'll be like gods. 00:23:48.82\00:23:51.58 You will be a god, Eve and you will be god, Adam. 00:23:51.59\00:23:54.26 That's not what the suggestion was. 00:23:54.27\00:23:56.56 Well, the word is Elohim. 00:23:56.57\00:23:58.07 The word is Elohim, which is not small G, plural. 00:23:58.08\00:24:02.87 It's singular and it's really God as an almighty God. 00:24:02.88\00:24:08.62 So that's one of the things 00:24:08.63\00:24:09.86 that the King James Version did not properly translate. 00:24:09.87\00:24:13.06 And so in many cases 00:24:13.07\00:24:14.86 the New King James Version corrects the, 00:24:14.87\00:24:17.29 something like that. 00:24:17.30\00:24:18.36 Put it in the proper context not little g-o-d-s, 00:24:18.37\00:24:22.07 but capital G-o-d because the devil said, 00:24:22.08\00:24:24.71 "You could become like Him, if you just disobey him." 00:24:24.72\00:24:28.61 And we knew that was not the case 00:24:28.62\00:24:30.09 and later on you find that the Lord said 00:24:30.10\00:24:34.73 "let us go down because the man has become like one of us", 00:24:34.74\00:24:39.45 suggesting clearly. Another reference 00:24:39.46\00:24:41.82 and there's a number of them I can't do them all here. 00:24:41.83\00:24:44.78 But I'll give you one more, 00:24:44.79\00:24:46.10 showing one of the greatest things 00:24:46.11\00:24:47.65 that the New King James Version has done is correct the tense 00:24:47.66\00:24:50.61 and given the proper setting for the word that's used there. 00:24:50.62\00:24:53.91 So it's not misconstrued because, 00:24:53.92\00:24:56.29 John, when the Bible uses the word spirit, 00:24:56.30\00:24:59.51 depending on the word there, it can mean the Holy Spirit, 00:24:59.52\00:25:02.82 it can mean the breath of life in your nostril, 00:25:02.83\00:25:05.43 or simply it can mean the spirit by which something is done. 00:25:06.61\00:25:11.32 Spirit of man. Spirit of man. 00:25:12.15\00:25:13.71 It's the spirit by which we do something. 00:25:13.72\00:25:15.32 Right, so you know he did it, did it with an evil spirit. 00:25:15.33\00:25:18.77 And, in fact, in that context, it could demonic spirits. 00:25:18.78\00:25:21.49 So it could be demonic spirit 00:25:21.50\00:25:22.66 it could mean spirit of in the breath of man 00:25:22.67\00:25:26.01 which is ruach or nephesh or it can mean the Holy Spirit. 00:25:26.02\00:25:31.22 And so one of the things that the New King James Version 00:25:31.23\00:25:33.31 did and I will... matter of fact, 00:25:33.32\00:25:35.32 I want you go to Numbers 11:25. 00:25:35.33\00:25:38.07 And I'll read Numbers 11:25 in the King James Version. 00:25:38.08\00:25:41.43 And I want you to notice 00:25:41.44\00:25:42.43 if you have the King James Version, 00:25:42.44\00:25:44.06 the difference between the two translations, 00:25:44.07\00:25:46.28 because the New King James Version 00:25:46.29\00:25:48.22 corrects and puts these words in the right setting. 00:25:48.23\00:25:54.70 Whenever you speak of divinity, you don't use a small letter. 00:25:54.71\00:25:58.70 You use a capital letter. 00:25:58.71\00:26:00.73 And it says in the King James Version, 00:26:00.74\00:26:04.01 "And the Lord came down in a cloud and spake unto him 00:26:04.02\00:26:08.73 and took the spirit that was upon him 00:26:08.74\00:26:11.83 and gave it to the 70 elders. 00:26:11.84\00:26:14.14 And it came to pass 00:26:14.15\00:26:15.14 that when the spirit rested upon them, 00:26:15.15\00:26:18.05 they prophesized and did not cease." 00:26:18.06\00:26:20.41 Now you notice on both examples on the King James Version. 00:26:20.42\00:26:22.95 The word "spirit" is small cap. 00:26:22.96\00:26:24.55 Small, not even cap, small letters. 00:26:25.62\00:26:28.32 But if you read the King James Version, 00:26:28.33\00:26:30.11 John, read that for us. 00:26:30.12\00:26:31.69 "Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him 00:26:31.70\00:26:35.05 and took of the Spirit..." 00:26:35.06\00:26:36.70 Capital S. " that was upon him 00:26:36.71\00:26:39.21 and placed the same upon the 70 elders. 00:26:39.22\00:26:42.00 And it happened when the Spirit" that's capitalized again," 00:26:42.01\00:26:45.74 rested upon them that they prophesied 00:26:45.75\00:26:48.37 although they never did so again." 00:26:48.38\00:26:50.37 And so you see clearly one of the most prevalent things 00:26:51.65\00:26:55.84 it does is corrects the tense. 00:26:55.85\00:26:58.35 What I wanna also show you 00:26:58.36\00:26:59.58 and I mentioned a moment ago one of the reasons I don't, 00:26:59.59\00:27:02.57 one of the reasons I shy away mostly, 00:27:02.58\00:27:04.44 I think you have more 00:27:04.45\00:27:05.44 controversies surrounding the NIV. 00:27:05.45\00:27:07.75 Because there are some texts that are absolutely deleted 00:27:07.76\00:27:11.25 but you don't have that in the King James Version. 00:27:11.26\00:27:13.66 It speaks more like we speak today 00:27:14.57\00:27:16.83 but it doesn't move away so far from the context. 00:27:16.84\00:27:19.20 It doesn't move way at all from the context of the verses. 00:27:19.21\00:27:21.71 Yeah, and I would say that the NIV, 00:27:21.72\00:27:23.49 along with other modern translations, 00:27:23.50\00:27:25.35 come from a different manuscript line, 00:27:25.36\00:27:27.87 than does the King James and the New King James Version. 00:27:27.88\00:27:30.74 So by the instances of that, 00:27:30.75\00:27:31.97 it's not so much that it was deleted, 00:27:31.98\00:27:33.55 it's that the text there isn't evident 00:27:33.56\00:27:36.49 through the historical line, in other words. 00:27:36.50\00:27:38.22 So you can't just put something there 00:27:38.23\00:27:39.53 that's not there in the manuscript, right. 00:27:39.54\00:27:41.78 So the modern translations come from a different line 00:27:41.79\00:27:44.32 than do the King James and the New King James Versions. 00:27:44.33\00:27:47.26 And there's all kinds of debate about 00:27:48.15\00:27:49.43 whether or not that's legitimate or not. 00:27:49.44\00:27:51.34 Obviously the modern translation 00:27:51.35\00:27:53.00 comes from a manuscript that is older, right. 00:27:53.01\00:27:55.27 Than the King James 00:27:55.28\00:27:56.40 and then the New King James Version as well. 00:27:56.41\00:27:58.54 But I think I agree with you when it comes to Bible study 00:27:58.55\00:28:01.67 and typically pick up my New King James Version Bible 00:28:01.68\00:28:04.27 to do that in, because often I am finding 00:28:04.28\00:28:07.98 that it's easier to follow line to line, 00:28:07.99\00:28:10.93 subject to subject with that. 00:28:10.94\00:28:12.47 Now that's preference for me, 00:28:12.48\00:28:14.16 but it doesn't mean that the NIV other translations 00:28:14.17\00:28:16.87 that are from the older manuscript 00:28:16.88\00:28:19.40 in a modern version, as it's spoken of, is evil. 00:28:19.41\00:28:22.54 Or somehow the intent is that Satan has got in there 00:28:22.55\00:28:26.42 and done something to the word. 00:28:26.43\00:28:27.71 I think God is absolutely able to protect his word 00:28:27.72\00:28:31.31 from ancient times up to today in the various forms. 00:28:31.32\00:28:36.64 Now I also can agree probably with you on sometimes 00:28:36.65\00:28:41.26 when you're using a um, not an actual translation 00:28:41.27\00:28:46.02 but more of a paraphrase Bible. 00:28:46.03\00:28:49.60 Then you're getting lot of man's words 00:28:49.61\00:28:51.92 added into the text to help provide clarification for it, 00:28:51.93\00:28:55.50 and in some ways, it's correct. 00:28:55.51\00:28:57.62 But in sometimes, you read it, it's definitely not correct. 00:28:57.63\00:29:00.69 It's actually leading you the wrong direction. 00:29:00.70\00:29:02.48 So you want to be careful of paraphrases. 00:29:02.49\00:29:04.34 Also be careful of the notations 00:29:04.35\00:29:06.74 and the Biblical notes of the bottom of these things, 00:29:06.75\00:29:09.11 'cause it depends upon what kind of Bible 00:29:09.12\00:29:11.73 that you're reading. 00:29:11.74\00:29:12.74 But it could be a commentary that is based upon, 00:29:12.75\00:29:16.47 um, one person's interpretation that will lead you 00:29:16.48\00:29:19.33 also in a wrong direction. 00:29:19.34\00:29:20.42 So the word is the most important part. 00:29:20.43\00:29:23.24 And, John, you know, the other thing is, 00:29:23.25\00:29:24.89 a lot of the times we read the King James Version Bible 00:29:24.90\00:29:27.79 and certain passages kind of make you blush, 00:29:27.80\00:29:30.63 because we don't speak that way today, yeah. 00:29:30.64\00:29:33.66 There's one of particular if this is a... 00:29:33.67\00:29:36.42 I know where you going. You know huh? 00:29:36.43\00:29:38.39 You're going to Balaam. The story of Balaam. 00:29:38.40\00:29:39.97 Oh, well, I chose not to go to that one, 00:29:39.98\00:29:42.33 because that's kind of offensive. 00:29:42.34\00:29:43.87 Yeah, that's right. If you speak to someone today 00:29:43.88\00:29:46.39 in the context of modern society, 00:29:46.40\00:29:48.24 so many things have been corrupted 00:29:48.25\00:29:49.82 that we don't we don't speak the way we used to. 00:29:49.83\00:29:52.33 We use certain words that were acceptable. 00:29:52.34\00:29:55.08 Let me give you a passive example. 00:29:55.09\00:29:56.73 This is not a controversy-- this is not 00:29:56.74\00:29:59.47 intent to spark any controversy. 00:29:59.48\00:30:01.73 But in the thirties and forties 00:30:01.74\00:30:03.60 when you said the word gay 00:30:03.61\00:30:04.64 that means you were happy, right. 00:30:04.65\00:30:06.25 Okay? Doesn't mean that today. No. 00:30:06.26\00:30:08.51 It means something completely different. 00:30:08.52\00:30:10.27 In the same way and I talked about this 00:30:10.28\00:30:11.69 how the Christians should get back, 00:30:11.70\00:30:12.93 take back their rainbow. 00:30:12.94\00:30:14.34 Because it was a time rainbow always represented 00:30:14.35\00:30:16.76 the promise of God that he would not flood 00:30:16.77\00:30:18.24 the world by, he would not destroy world by a flood. 00:30:18.25\00:30:22.10 But nowadays you see a rainbow 00:30:22.11\00:30:23.44 on the back of somebody's car, 00:30:23.45\00:30:24.57 it means something different altogether. 00:30:24.58\00:30:27.17 Modern society has so twisted the meaning of things 00:30:27.18\00:30:30.99 that God never intended to be twisted, 00:30:31.00\00:30:32.78 that we have to comeback to the reality of it and see, 00:30:32.79\00:30:35.27 put it in the proper context. 00:30:35.28\00:30:36.67 Now I'm not gonna go to the one on Balaam 00:30:36.68\00:30:38.08 because I know that, you know, 00:30:38.09\00:30:39.35 I don't want to walk the line--so its offensive 00:30:39.36\00:30:43.59 when I sometimes hear it. 00:30:43.60\00:30:44.98 But if you hear it in the context 00:30:44.99\00:30:45.98 you could understand a person's using 00:30:45.99\00:30:47.24 the King James Version, but the one that 00:30:47.25\00:30:48.88 first Samuel 25:22, this was brought to my attention. 00:30:48.89\00:30:51.77 And I was so glad that this was corrected 00:30:51.78\00:30:53.49 in the King James Version and then the New King James, 00:30:53.50\00:30:58.34 actually, the new international version 00:30:58.35\00:31:01.56 gives it there's certain times I use the NIV Bible 00:31:01.57\00:31:04.79 because sometimes it speaks so clearly. 00:31:04.80\00:31:07.66 But the, um, I'll read it in the King James Version. 00:31:07.67\00:31:10.55 And first Samuel 25:22, 00:31:10.56\00:31:13.91 "So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, 00:31:13.92\00:31:18.74 if I leave of all that pertain to him, 00:31:18.75\00:31:21.72 by morning light any that pisseth against the wall." 00:31:21.73\00:31:26.37 And we don't speak that way. We don't. 00:31:26.38\00:31:28.81 But if you read the New King James Version 00:31:28.82\00:31:30.29 it says, "May God do so, and more also, 00:31:30.30\00:31:32.64 to the enemies of David, 00:31:32.65\00:31:34.41 if I leave one male at all who belong to him 00:31:34.42\00:31:38.89 by morning light." 00:31:38.90\00:31:40.02 That's the way to speak today. Male. 00:31:40.03\00:31:42.61 But we don't, we don't use that kind of 00:31:42.62\00:31:44.81 context language today. 00:31:44.82\00:31:46.20 You know, we say male and female. 00:31:46.21\00:31:48.44 We don't use the word-- 00:31:48.45\00:31:50.57 So the New King Version was intended to leave 00:31:50.58\00:31:53.74 in place the integrity of the King James Bible, 00:31:53.75\00:31:58.47 exactly, but take words and the way things are said 00:31:58.48\00:32:02.24 and put them into a modern language. 00:32:02.25\00:32:04.16 Which is something that has been indorsed 00:32:04.17\00:32:07.13 and supported by our church from many many years. 00:32:07.14\00:32:09.60 Right, you know, one of our main church pioneers 00:32:09.61\00:32:12.92 we think is very inspired 00:32:12.93\00:32:14.44 through her writings throughout. 00:32:14.45\00:32:16.37 As the translations were coming out, 00:32:16.38\00:32:17.96 she used them and she said that 00:32:17.97\00:32:19.91 she gave very much praise to some of those 00:32:19.92\00:32:22.26 who were working to bring out these new translations 00:32:22.27\00:32:25.17 because it made the word more understandable, right. 00:32:25.18\00:32:27.31 Well, you know, I think we doing nothing, 00:32:27.32\00:32:29.37 but get into controversies over this thing. 00:32:29.38\00:32:31.94 Divide churches when we become rooted in saying 00:32:31.95\00:32:35.50 where it's only King James Version. 00:32:35.51\00:32:37.33 That they may be your preference. 00:32:37.34\00:32:39.15 It's preferential rather than-- That's really the issue. 00:32:39.16\00:32:41.75 It's not a salvation issue. 00:32:41.76\00:32:43.14 And that's what I think, so many times people make this, 00:32:43.15\00:32:45.84 "Oh, if we turn away from the King James Version 00:32:45.85\00:32:48.15 we're gone in the way of darkness." 00:32:48.16\00:32:50.06 King James was not a Christian. 00:32:50.07\00:32:53.04 He was the one that commissioned the translation. 00:32:53.05\00:32:57.23 But he was not a, 00:32:57.24\00:32:59.02 "Oh, God has inspired me to put this translation out 00:32:59.03\00:33:02.03 and all the words are inspired." 00:33:02.04\00:33:03.55 By no means. Do the history-- 00:33:03.56\00:33:04.98 Do the historical search on that. 00:33:04.99\00:33:06.33 King James is not the source of the inspiration. 00:33:06.34\00:33:10.02 He's the source of the commission 00:33:10.03\00:33:11.53 for that Bible to be put together. 00:33:11.54\00:33:13.49 And lastly, this is the most significance difference 00:33:13.50\00:33:16.02 and I mentioned the NIV here. 00:33:16.03\00:33:17.94 Romans 8, verse 1, and I want you read Romans 8, 00:33:17.95\00:33:20.90 verse 1 in the New King James Version. 00:33:20.91\00:33:22.92 It says the same thing in the King James Version. 00:33:22.93\00:33:24.76 They don't have any difference there. 00:33:24.77\00:33:27.27 And I like the way that it-- 00:33:31.38\00:33:32.69 but here's what the NIV does 00:33:32.70\00:33:34.38 and I don't really support this. 00:33:34.39\00:33:35.74 But read that in Romans 8 and verse 1, 00:33:35.75\00:33:38.11 King James-- New King James Version. 00:33:38.12\00:33:40.09 "There is therefore now no condemnation to those 00:33:40.10\00:33:42.61 who are in Christ Jesus, 00:33:42.62\00:33:44.52 who do not walk according to the flesh, 00:33:44.53\00:33:46.16 but according to the Spirit." 00:33:46.17\00:33:47.49 Okay, where does the condemnation not come in? 00:33:47.50\00:33:50.21 According to your walk, right? 00:33:50.22\00:33:51.54 Right, if you don't walk according to the flesh, 00:33:51.55\00:33:54.59 there's no condemnation because you're walking 00:33:54.60\00:33:56.57 according to the spirit. 00:33:56.58\00:33:58.37 But now if you read this in the NIV, 00:33:58.38\00:33:59.96 the whole second part-- 00:33:59.97\00:34:01.19 this is the part that is taken out. 00:34:01.20\00:34:03.14 Who do not walk according to the flesh 00:34:03.15\00:34:05.44 but according to the spirit? 00:34:05.45\00:34:06.74 That's completely left out in the NIV. 00:34:06.75\00:34:09.59 It doesn't appear in the original manuscripts all. 00:34:09.60\00:34:11.75 Right. It's just not there. 00:34:11.76\00:34:12.81 And so you have here in the NIV, 00:34:12.82\00:34:14.93 "Therefore there is now no condemnation 00:34:14.94\00:34:17.08 for those who are in Christ Jesus." 00:34:17.09\00:34:19.65 Yeah, it's in the King James Version it continues, 00:34:19.66\00:34:22.17 "who do not walk according to the flesh" 00:34:22.18\00:34:23.79 and the New King James, 00:34:23.80\00:34:24.79 "who do not walk according to the flesh" 00:34:24.80\00:34:26.50 But it's not included in the NIV, 00:34:26.51\00:34:28.11 because of the source of the translation 00:34:28.12\00:34:29.45 that they use. 00:34:29.46\00:34:30.74 So...but once again, if you look at the whole 00:34:30.75\00:34:32.97 inspired thought, the other thing you find 00:34:32.98\00:34:35.59 in the NIV is, um, sometimes it says that 00:34:35.60\00:34:40.12 "blessed are they that, who have washed their robes." 00:34:40.13\00:34:43.34 Instead of "blessed are they that keep the commandments." 00:34:43.35\00:34:47.04 Revelation 22, verse 14. 00:34:47.05\00:34:49.32 But once again the whole inspired thought 00:34:49.33\00:34:51.68 is not lost. 00:34:51.69\00:34:52.97 But some of the passages are just 00:34:52.98\00:34:54.50 completely taken out, 00:34:54.51\00:34:55.55 so I rather stick with the New King James Version. 00:34:55.56\00:34:58.55 And I quote many of my texts from the King James Version 00:34:58.56\00:35:01.28 because it's in my head, right. 00:35:01.29\00:35:02.80 From all the years we've used them. 00:35:02.81\00:35:03.80 Memorization of old, yeah. 00:35:03.81\00:35:04.93 Right, well, anyway, we've covered quite a bit 00:35:04.94\00:35:06.83 here today and we've extended our time 00:35:06.84\00:35:08.09 a little bit for some very important topics. 00:35:08.10\00:35:09.71 But if you have any question you want to sent to us, 00:35:09.72\00:35:11.80 send those to housecalls@3abn.org. 00:35:11.81\00:35:14.71 That's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:35:14.72\00:35:17.32 And once again, thank you so much 00:35:17.33\00:35:19.56 for all that you do for this network 00:35:19.57\00:35:20.83 and all that you do to support us by your prayers 00:35:20.84\00:35:23.42 and your financial support. 00:35:23.43\00:35:25.22 We do appreciate it. 00:35:25.23\00:35:27.41 Now, John, let's dive into our closing out 00:35:27.42\00:35:30.64 of our topic today. 00:35:30.65\00:35:33.18 We're going to finish up our discussion on faith. 00:35:33.19\00:35:38.11 But you were adding a different approach to it. 00:35:38.12\00:35:39.98 And tell us. Yeah. 00:35:39.99\00:35:41.74 We're now finishing up by touching on just 00:35:41.75\00:35:43.95 some of the areas of practicing our faith. 00:35:43.96\00:35:48.35 And these are key areas of life that 00:35:48.36\00:35:50.32 we think are very important 00:35:50.33\00:35:51.45 where we need to be exercising that faith muscle 00:35:51.46\00:35:55.23 or building that faith muscle. 00:35:55.24\00:35:56.76 You're becoming stronger in that faith 00:35:56.77\00:35:59.29 and so we want to share with you 00:35:59.30\00:36:01.44 some of the aspects that we see 00:36:01.45\00:36:02.74 they are very important for today. 00:36:02.75\00:36:04.38 I think some of the areas that maybe some Christians 00:36:04.39\00:36:06.36 struggle in and other areas that maybe some of you don't. 00:36:06.37\00:36:10.48 But again, these are the practices of faith 00:36:10.49\00:36:13.41 and some different aspects of that. 00:36:13.42\00:36:15.36 And one of the first ones I think that was important to, 00:36:15.37\00:36:17.47 to touch on, John, is this dialogue between 00:36:17.48\00:36:22.93 Jesus and the disciples found in Luke chapter 17. 00:36:22.94\00:36:27.75 So why don't we start there and listen to what 00:36:27.76\00:36:33.61 Jesus was asking them to do and how they responded... 00:36:33.62\00:36:38.89 to his request and we'll start with Luke 17. 00:36:38.90\00:36:44.00 Let's just start with verse 1, okay. 00:36:44.01\00:36:47.29 It says, "Then He said to the disciples, 00:36:47.30\00:36:49.55 'It is impossible that no offenses should come, 00:36:49.56\00:36:52.34 but woe to him through whom they do come! 00:36:52.35\00:36:56.46 It would be better for him if a millstone 00:36:56.47\00:36:58.93 were hung around his neck, 00:36:58.94\00:37:01.02 and he were thrown into the sea, 00:37:01.03\00:37:02.70 than that he should offend one of these little ones.'" 00:37:02.71\00:37:07.98 In reference to those that were coming to him. 00:37:07.99\00:37:10.55 So deceiving, offending little ones. 00:37:10.56\00:37:12.02 Now listen to this. Verse 3, "Take heed to yourselves. 00:37:12.03\00:37:15.98 If your brother sins against you, rebuke him, 00:37:15.99\00:37:18.79 and if he repents, forgive him. 00:37:18.80\00:37:20.96 And if he sins against you seven times in a day, 00:37:20.97\00:37:24.13 and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, 00:37:24.14\00:37:26.92 'I repent,' you shall forgive him." 00:37:26.93\00:37:30.54 Now listen to the response from the apostles-- 00:37:30.55\00:37:32.93 the disciples here. 00:37:32.94\00:37:34.59 "And the apostles said to the Lord, 00:37:34.60\00:37:36.29 'Increase our faith.'" 00:37:36.30\00:37:38.54 Wow, so put yourself under the mindset 00:37:38.55\00:37:41.71 of the disciples here. 00:37:41.72\00:37:44.07 The word says apostles, in cases. 00:37:44.08\00:37:46.56 Same individuals we're talking about. 00:37:46.57\00:37:50.15 They're hearing Christ say to them that even 00:37:50.16\00:37:53.30 if someone offends you over and over again, 00:37:53.31\00:37:55.47 commits the sin against you, if he comes back to you 00:37:55.48\00:37:59.21 and asks for forgiveness and repents, forgive him. 00:37:59.22\00:38:02.53 And this word seven times, I think is more intended 00:38:02.54\00:38:05.51 to designate, not necessarily seven times only, 00:38:05.52\00:38:10.73 but seven times is a perfect number, 00:38:10.74\00:38:12.84 as in, elsewhere, I think in Mathew, 00:38:12.85\00:38:16.13 we read that if someone asks forgiveness to you 00:38:16.14\00:38:21.25 forgive him seven times. 00:38:21.26\00:38:22.74 And he says "no, seventy times seven", right? 00:38:22.75\00:38:25.14 Okay, so there's this magnitude that goes 00:38:25.15\00:38:27.43 beyond the basic idea is that 00:38:27.44\00:38:29.07 beyond what the disciples were thinking about 00:38:29.08\00:38:31.34 would be the alotted amount of times, 00:38:31.35\00:38:33.45 to give some or extend to someone forgiveness. 00:38:33.46\00:38:36.18 So they're hearing this and they're saying, 00:38:36.19\00:38:38.15 "Do you mean if someone keeps on hurting us 00:38:38.16\00:38:40.77 over and over again that I'm to forgive him 00:38:40.78\00:38:42.22 every time if they ask?" 00:38:42.23\00:38:44.54 And Jesus says, "Yes, that's exactly 00:38:44.55\00:38:47.32 what you need to do." 00:38:47.33\00:38:48.60 So the response here is then, "Increase our faith." 00:38:48.61\00:38:53.41 John, I think this is an area. It's a sensitive area. 00:38:53.42\00:38:57.90 But we need to understand it. 00:38:57.91\00:38:59.49 That God is asking for the church, 00:38:59.50\00:39:02.04 and as its members, that the greatest thing 00:39:02.05\00:39:05.14 we have for one another is love. 00:39:05.15\00:39:07.62 And then whenever there's an opportunity 00:39:07.63\00:39:09.38 to reconcile and repair a relationship, 00:39:09.39\00:39:11.70 that we must take it 00:39:11.71\00:39:13.04 and forgive those who have hurt us. 00:39:13.05\00:39:15.74 This requires faith. Wow, that's true. 00:39:15.75\00:39:21.86 And 'cause our natural inclination is 00:39:21.87\00:39:24.40 to not want to forgive. 00:39:24.41\00:39:25.80 I mean, come on, how many times they hurt me? 00:39:25.81\00:39:27.43 I'm done with this, right? I'm moving on. 00:39:27.44\00:39:29.23 I'm writing them off. 00:39:29.24\00:39:31.43 But God says, "No, no, if they keep coming back to you 00:39:31.44\00:39:34.47 and ask for forgiveness, you forgive them every time 00:39:34.48\00:39:37.10 and that requires faith. 00:39:37.11\00:39:40.26 Now, faith in a god who supremely is the God of love. 00:39:40.27\00:39:45.64 And we want to share this aspect of faith 00:39:45.65\00:39:47.86 because some of you, I think, 00:39:47.87\00:39:49.05 may be holding onto that forgiveness. 00:39:49.06\00:39:52.70 You're not extending that forgiveness 00:39:52.71\00:39:54.33 to a brother or a sister who has hurt you, 00:39:54.34\00:39:56.10 who has offended you. 00:39:56.11\00:39:57.49 And I know it says, "They must come to you 00:39:57.50\00:39:59.75 and seek that forgiveness first," 00:39:59.76\00:40:02.18 but let me tell you, Mathew 18 says. 00:40:02.19\00:40:04.21 "The one offended should go to the one 00:40:04.22\00:40:06.32 who did the offence to ask or to seek reconciliation." 00:40:06.33\00:40:09.98 John, I mean, these pastors 00:40:09.99\00:40:11.17 have been through this many times. 00:40:11.18\00:40:13.16 You know, "I'm not going to forgive them, 00:40:13.17\00:40:14.57 they need to come to me." 00:40:14.58\00:40:16.02 Mathew 18 says no, if you're the one that was offended, 00:40:16.03\00:40:19.07 you go to the one committing the offence 00:40:19.08\00:40:21.04 and seek reconciliation, right? 00:40:21.05\00:40:22.72 Right. That's the rule. 00:40:22.73\00:40:25.36 So if you're offended, doesn't matter how many times, 00:40:25.37\00:40:29.03 go to the individual that offended you, 00:40:29.04\00:40:31.11 seek reconciliation, 00:40:31.12\00:40:32.96 if they are open to reconciliation forgive them. 00:40:32.97\00:40:37.45 I would even add to that, regardless. 00:40:37.46\00:40:40.41 Forgiveness is what we should extend to anybody 00:40:40.42\00:40:42.98 that has offended us or hurt us. 00:40:42.99\00:40:44.40 Wow, and it takes faith to do that. 00:40:44.41\00:40:46.53 You're right. You are exactly correct. 00:40:46.54\00:40:49.21 I mean, that is just... you can't argue with that. 00:40:49.22\00:40:52.34 And then, and so the Lord-- and then it's after that 00:40:52.35\00:40:55.47 that He says to them let me show you 00:40:55.48\00:40:58.03 how effective it would be. 00:40:58.04\00:40:59.06 If you had the faith of mustard seed it'll happen. 00:40:59.07\00:41:01.91 'Cause they're saying I don't really 00:41:01.92\00:41:03.03 have enough faith to do that. 00:41:03.04\00:41:04.19 I don't really have enough faith 00:41:04.20\00:41:05.34 to go and forgive somebody. 00:41:05.35\00:41:06.41 He says it doesn't take a whole lot. 00:41:06.42\00:41:08.05 Matter of fact, let's start with the mustard seed. 00:41:08.06\00:41:10.98 It can move a mountain. 00:41:10.99\00:41:11.99 He doesn't say, if you faith of a mountain 00:41:12.00\00:41:13.53 you can move a mustard seed. 00:41:13.54\00:41:15.23 He said if you had the faith of a mustard seed, 00:41:15.24\00:41:16.56 you could move a mountain. 00:41:16.57\00:41:17.56 In other words, oh, man, I'll tell you, 00:41:17.57\00:41:19.39 that's you put that into context in a beautiful way, 00:41:19.40\00:41:22.14 John, because, you know lot of the situations 00:41:22.15\00:41:24.10 we face in life are like mountains to us. 00:41:24.11\00:41:26.88 And we don't want to go to that mountain. 00:41:26.89\00:41:29.11 Forget it, forget it, I'll just stay in the Midwest. 00:41:29.12\00:41:32.01 You know, you're in a mountainous state, 00:41:32.02\00:41:33.24 a beautiful state of Idaho. 00:41:33.25\00:41:34.58 But truly our situations appear to us as mountains 00:41:34.59\00:41:38.34 and the Lord says, that mountain can be moved 00:41:38.35\00:41:42.63 if you just simply put your mustard seed faith 00:41:42.64\00:41:45.31 into action, it'll happen. 00:41:45.32\00:41:47.38 It'll work. I appreciate that. 00:41:47.39\00:41:49.13 And it can seem impossible. 00:41:49.14\00:41:50.29 So it is impossible we would think 00:41:50.30\00:41:52.19 that a mountain can be moved by faith. 00:41:52.20\00:41:54.93 But God says, when it comes to a barrier 00:41:54.94\00:41:57.91 between you and another, 00:41:57.92\00:41:59.46 God can remove mountain through faith. 00:41:59.47\00:42:02.12 He can extend forgiveness. 00:42:02.13\00:42:03.12 Now it ties in also with other passages 00:42:03.13\00:42:06.24 where Christ says, even in his prayer 00:42:06.25\00:42:08.29 as He's teaching the disciples had to pray, 00:42:08.30\00:42:09.97 He says forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. 00:42:09.98\00:42:14.66 So do not, the antithesis to that 00:42:14.67\00:42:17.25 would be do not forgive our debts 00:42:17.26\00:42:19.21 as we don't extend forgiveness to our debtors. 00:42:19.22\00:42:23.26 So we need to be forgiving others 00:42:23.27\00:42:26.77 or the result would be that God would not forgive us. 00:42:26.78\00:42:30.80 I mean haven't all of us done something to God 00:42:30.81\00:42:33.32 that doesn't deserve his forgiveness? 00:42:33.33\00:42:35.81 But he's been gracious to us. 00:42:35.82\00:42:38.13 You think about that whole unrighteous servant. 00:42:38.14\00:42:42.38 You know, where he came before the king. 00:42:42.39\00:42:43.68 He had this incredible debt. 00:42:43.69\00:42:45.32 And the king forgave it all. 00:42:45.33\00:42:47.28 And he left praising God or thanking the king for that, 00:42:47.29\00:42:50.63 went down the street, ran into a guy who owed him 20 bucks. 00:42:50.64\00:42:53.22 Right, and had him thrown in prison 00:42:53.23\00:42:55.02 because he wouldn't pay him back 20 bucks. 00:42:55.03\00:42:56.40 Well, the king called him back in to give account for that 00:42:56.41\00:42:59.31 and said because you wouldn't forgive the other debt, 00:42:59.32\00:43:01.92 I now will not forgive you. 00:43:01.93\00:43:03.32 In fact, I heed back that debt upon you. 00:43:03.33\00:43:05.22 Pay it all, throw him into prison. 00:43:05.23\00:43:06.86 I studied that out, John, and I came to discover 00:43:06.87\00:43:09.36 one of the servants who owed the king 00:43:09.37\00:43:12.00 so much that he said give me time. 00:43:12.01\00:43:14.17 You know how much time he would have needed? 00:43:14.18\00:43:15.75 He said based on how much he owed 00:43:15.76\00:43:17.39 it would have taken him 325 years to pay it back. 00:43:17.40\00:43:20.87 He didn't have 325 years. 00:43:20.88\00:43:22.92 So when he said give me time. 00:43:22.93\00:43:25.41 He had no time. 00:43:25.42\00:43:26.86 There was not enough time for him to do that. 00:43:26.87\00:43:28.91 That's why the Lord in his mercy said, you need time? 00:43:28.92\00:43:31.56 No, what you need is forgiveness. 00:43:31.57\00:43:33.16 And so that's what he extended to him--forgiveness. 00:43:33.17\00:43:35.66 And faith is the, is the element there 00:43:35.67\00:43:38.16 and sometimes we can't come to the point 00:43:38.17\00:43:40.30 of forgiveness or accomplishment 00:43:40.31\00:43:42.51 because our faith is so weak. 00:43:42.52\00:43:44.30 It's smaller in our admittance than a mustard seed. 00:43:44.31\00:43:48.05 And it's also --it's... 00:43:48.06\00:43:51.07 hearing this is a way to test our faith. 00:43:51.08\00:43:53.20 You know, don't think that you've arrived, 00:43:53.21\00:43:56.06 I mean, we all something that we need to work on. 00:43:56.07\00:43:59.00 And examine yourself to see whether you are of the faith. 00:43:59.01\00:44:03.41 And so we examine ourselves and some may say, 00:44:03.42\00:44:05.86 "Well, I have great faith." 00:44:05.87\00:44:07.39 But yet they're not extending forgiveness 00:44:07.40\00:44:09.65 to their brother or their sister. 00:44:09.66\00:44:12.12 And you know, we can get 00:44:12.13\00:44:14.52 situations like that even as pastors. 00:44:14.53\00:44:16.38 You know, we can unintentionally 00:44:16.39\00:44:20.77 maybe offend somebody in the church or something 00:44:20.78\00:44:22.79 and then all this, you know the backbiting 00:44:22.80\00:44:24.70 and the conversing behind the scenes. 00:44:24.71\00:44:26.78 About the pastor and what they've done 00:44:26.79\00:44:28.12 and, oh, how they've harm--and then, of course, 00:44:28.13\00:44:29.52 then they're not speaking to their pastor and all this stuff. 00:44:29.53\00:44:31.75 That is done in the name of, 00:44:31.76\00:44:35.28 "I have great discernment in faith 00:44:35.29\00:44:36.64 and the pastor did wrong." 00:44:36.65\00:44:38.03 Right, but yet, they have a weak faith 00:44:38.04\00:44:40.16 because they're not forgiving. 00:44:40.17\00:44:42.65 And so sometimes, it's the very opposite. 00:44:42.66\00:44:44.87 We feel we have great faith, 00:44:44.88\00:44:46.66 but because of withholding forgiveness and reconciliation, 00:44:46.67\00:44:49.48 we actually have a very weak faith. 00:44:49.49\00:44:52.05 So, it's a, it is the greatest, 00:44:52.06\00:44:54.83 most upstanding individual in God's eyes 00:44:54.84\00:44:58.26 is the one that is most humble. 00:44:58.27\00:45:00.25 That's true, the first thing I said to my elders 00:45:00.26\00:45:02.90 when I came to Sandpoint 00:45:02.91\00:45:04.98 and all of them will attest to this. 00:45:04.99\00:45:06.85 They said, "What would you like from us the most?" 00:45:06.86\00:45:09.01 We were dialoguing about this and I said, 00:45:09.02\00:45:10.59 "What I expect from the most, 00:45:10.60\00:45:11.98 first on the list above all things, 00:45:11.99\00:45:13.61 is that you would be humble. 00:45:13.62\00:45:15.50 I'm looking for humble men as elders. 00:45:15.51\00:45:17.90 If you are all humble, we can work together." 00:45:17.91\00:45:21.15 And they said, "You know, they were, you're right. 00:45:21.16\00:45:23.72 That's what we want." 00:45:23.73\00:45:25.23 And we have had a great relationship 00:45:25.24\00:45:26.79 and then going forward. 00:45:26.80\00:45:27.98 Humility is not for the weak. 00:45:27.99\00:45:30.63 Humility is for the strong. 00:45:30.64\00:45:32.01 Right. Stronger faith. 00:45:32.02\00:45:34.05 And so how do we increase our faith is 00:45:34.06\00:45:36.35 really great question. 00:45:36.36\00:45:38.00 I believe it's where you look makes a difference. 00:45:38.01\00:45:41.17 Where you have your eyes fixed makes the difference. 00:45:41.18\00:45:44.73 The statement made by the writer 00:45:44.74\00:45:46.13 of Hebrews in Hebrews 12. 00:45:46.14\00:45:47.41 I want to go there and show you or point you out 00:45:47.42\00:45:52.89 the place that we could look 00:45:52.90\00:45:54.58 if we need to get our faith strengthened. 00:45:54.59\00:45:57.63 Because truly, if you look to people sometimes. 00:45:57.64\00:46:00.07 Well, Job said, "Don't put your trust in princes 00:46:00.08\00:46:04.55 or in the son of man in whom there is no help." 00:46:04.56\00:46:07.27 So who do you look to? 00:46:07.28\00:46:08.51 Who do you look to when you need 00:46:08.52\00:46:09.54 the difficulties of life resolved? 00:46:09.55\00:46:12.03 Look at what it says here in Hebrews 12 verse 2. 00:46:12.04\00:46:15.53 Notice this is a very important, 00:46:15.54\00:46:16.92 because we know each person 00:46:16.93\00:46:18.11 as a measure, measure of faith. 00:46:18.12\00:46:19.82 That's where it started. 00:46:19.83\00:46:21.02 Read 1, too, because it's laying aside that weight. 00:46:21.03\00:46:24.42 Okay, it says, "Since we are surrounded by 00:46:24.43\00:46:27.66 so great a cloud of witnesses, 00:46:27.67\00:46:30.12 let us lay aside every weight, 00:46:30.13\00:46:33.38 and the sin which so easily ensnares us, 00:46:33.39\00:46:38.11 and let us run with endurance the race 00:46:38.12\00:46:41.54 that is set before us..." 00:46:41.55\00:46:43.54 How do we run it? 00:46:43.55\00:46:45.06 "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, 00:46:45.07\00:46:49.52 who for the joy that was set before Him 00:46:49.53\00:46:53.11 endured the cross, despising the shame, 00:46:53.12\00:46:56.30 and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." 00:46:56.31\00:46:59.99 Who do we look to? Jesus. 00:47:00.00\00:47:02.29 I look to you, look to the Lord. 00:47:02.30\00:47:04.53 Keep our eyes fixed on him. 00:47:04.54\00:47:06.45 He's the one that began our faith 00:47:06.46\00:47:08.46 and He's the one that's gonna finish our faith. 00:47:08.47\00:47:11.05 Now is your faith gonna be stronger as you look to Christ? 00:47:11.06\00:47:14.56 Of course, it's gonna be stronger. 00:47:14.57\00:47:16.13 It can't help but be stronger 00:47:16.14\00:47:18.18 if we keep our eyes fixed on Christ. 00:47:18.19\00:47:20.53 But the reason why many of us 00:47:20.54\00:47:22.30 don't have that kind of faith we have, 00:47:22.31\00:47:24.04 or that we should have, is the same example 00:47:24.05\00:47:26.54 we find in the story of the disciples. 00:47:26.55\00:47:28.18 When they were in the boat they were been tossed. 00:47:28.19\00:47:30.64 They were looking more at the weather, 00:47:30.65\00:47:33.50 at the conditions around them, 00:47:33.51\00:47:35.16 than the Lord that was right there with them. 00:47:35.17\00:47:37.34 Just a few feet away. 00:47:37.35\00:47:39.36 "Uh, master." 00:47:39.37\00:47:40.61 And they woke him up and he resolved the situation. 00:47:40.62\00:47:43.96 They looked at him 00:47:43.97\00:47:45.05 and when they kept their eyes fixed on Him 00:47:45.06\00:47:46.81 every situation was resolved around them. 00:47:46.82\00:47:49.09 You know, and also you'd equate the race 00:47:49.10\00:47:51.82 in verse 1 to faith in verse 2. 00:47:51.83\00:47:55.99 Because it says "Let us run with endurance 00:47:56.00\00:47:58.02 the race set before us, looking to Jesus, 00:47:58.03\00:48:00.65 the author and finisher of our faith." 00:48:00.66\00:48:02.83 So the race is the race of faith. 00:48:02.84\00:48:06.01 So the race we're running in life as a Christian, 00:48:06.02\00:48:09.18 is a race of, constantly engaging in faith. 00:48:09.19\00:48:14.36 Trusting that Jesus would only start us off. 00:48:14.37\00:48:16.89 He saves us and justifies us to the beginning, 00:48:16.90\00:48:20.50 with that throughout that life. 00:48:20.51\00:48:22.50 Throughout the race that we run through life-- 00:48:22.51\00:48:24.78 the Christian life-- we are exercising 00:48:24.79\00:48:26.82 that same faith that we had 00:48:26.83\00:48:28.09 when we first believed to allow Jesus 00:48:28.10\00:48:30.64 to finish the race of faith. 00:48:30.65\00:48:33.26 Yeah, that's a very good point. 00:48:33.27\00:48:34.82 Because the race of faith, Paul the apostle told us 00:48:34.83\00:48:38.11 that we should contend for the faith 00:48:38.12\00:48:40.36 that was once delivered to us. 00:48:40.37\00:48:44.55 It is. 00:48:44.56\00:48:45.91 It is the activity of your life 00:48:48.43\00:48:50.11 that determines whether or not you're living by faith 00:48:50.12\00:48:53.19 or whether you're living by sight. 00:48:53.20\00:48:55.41 I know some individuals, 00:48:55.42\00:48:57.74 and I think we all know individuals 00:48:57.75\00:48:59.13 that right now are in a dire situation. 00:48:59.14\00:49:02.99 One of the things we often do 00:49:03.00\00:49:04.43 which we should do more of in a critical situation, 00:49:04.44\00:49:07.64 we often say to a person, 00:49:07.65\00:49:08.82 "Well, you know, lets get together 00:49:08.83\00:49:10.55 and anoint that person." 00:49:10.56\00:49:11.74 But there's something about 00:49:11.75\00:49:12.74 that anointing service that brings it 00:49:12.75\00:49:15.64 to a point of divine connecting with humanity, 00:49:15.65\00:49:19.76 rather than just humanity speaking about the divine. 00:49:19.77\00:49:22.93 There's a connection there that happens 00:49:22.94\00:49:24.22 when we pray in faith. 00:49:24.23\00:49:27.25 When we move forward in faith. 00:49:27.26\00:49:29.67 We activate in our own hearts, in our own lives, 00:49:29.68\00:49:33.91 a strength that we don't normally have. 00:49:33.92\00:49:35.80 And look at James. 00:49:35.81\00:49:38.05 Did you wanna say something before I go...? 00:49:38.06\00:49:39.56 No, there's another text I'll go to. 00:49:39.57\00:49:41.21 Let's start with yours though, uh, James. 00:49:41.22\00:49:43.01 Okay. James chapter 5, verse 15. 00:49:43.02\00:49:46.29 And what I want to point out more so here, 00:49:49.27\00:49:51.89 is not just the word faith, 00:49:51.90\00:49:53.91 but the phrase "prayer of a faith". 00:49:53.92\00:49:59.84 "And the prayer of faith will save. 00:49:59.85\00:50:02.80 " Now it's talking about the sick here. 00:50:02.81\00:50:04.42 But the prayer faith will save you heartache. 00:50:04.43\00:50:07.76 The prayer of faith will save you disappointment. 00:50:07.77\00:50:11.20 The prayer of faith would save you many sleepless nights. 00:50:11.21\00:50:15.00 Because sometimes people pray before they go to bed 00:50:15.01\00:50:17.98 and all through the night they can't sleep 00:50:17.99\00:50:21.17 because they're worried. 00:50:21.18\00:50:22.17 "Oh, it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen." 00:50:22.18\00:50:23.91 The prayer of faith will save a lot of situations. 00:50:23.92\00:50:27.79 And not just that, if you look at the story 00:50:27.80\00:50:29.51 of those being healed in Christ's day, 00:50:29.52\00:50:32.75 especially the man that was let down from the roof. 00:50:32.76\00:50:34.62 Yeah, remember, he came down 00:50:34.63\00:50:36.21 and he was seeking physical healing. 00:50:36.22\00:50:39.74 And what were the words that were pronounced? 00:50:39.75\00:50:41.22 Of course he received that, 00:50:41.23\00:50:42.30 but what were the words pronounced by Christ? 00:50:42.31\00:50:45.14 "Your sins are forgiving you," that's right. 00:50:45.15\00:50:48.20 So he's seeking physical healing 00:50:48.21\00:50:49.72 and the response of Christ is, 00:50:49.73\00:50:50.86 "Your sins are forgiving you." 00:50:50.87\00:50:52.29 That's the first response. 00:50:52.30\00:50:53.41 Yeah, the first, and so you have...you know, 00:50:53.42\00:50:55.89 we may want to be healed from our physical maladies, 00:50:55.90\00:50:58.76 but we best--God knows what's best is that 00:50:58.77\00:51:03.45 we're healed of our spiritual maladies. 00:51:03.46\00:51:05.99 Which is we need salvation from sin. 00:51:06.00\00:51:10.01 Sin is what's causing this. It's a sin sick soul. 00:51:10.02\00:51:13.63 Because this passage when you think about 00:51:13.64\00:51:15.27 the prayer of faith saving the sick, 00:51:15.28\00:51:16.98 will that person eventually die? Yes. 00:51:16.99\00:51:19.92 So has that prayer of faith 00:51:19.93\00:51:22.00 not been affectively responded to? 00:51:22.01\00:51:24.01 Yes, it has been effectively responded to. 00:51:24.02\00:51:26.72 But it also goes on and if He has 00:51:26.73\00:51:29.67 committed sins he will be forgiven. 00:51:29.68\00:51:32.12 There it is. Yeah. 00:51:32.13\00:51:33.18 And the Lord also points out that in that person's life, 00:51:33.19\00:51:38.88 that person would have the benefit 00:51:38.89\00:51:40.33 also of the resurrection He would raise him up. 00:51:40.34\00:51:42.94 He would raise him up. He would forgive his sins. 00:51:42.95\00:51:44.93 He would guarantee him salvation. 00:51:44.94\00:51:47.16 So the prayer of faith saves. 00:51:47.17\00:51:50.51 Whatever you situation is, whatever your difficulty is. 00:51:50.52\00:51:54.02 But when we think about the difference 00:51:54.03\00:51:56.28 it makes in our lives, you mentioned 00:51:56.29\00:51:57.46 you wanted to go to a particular passage. 00:51:57.47\00:51:59.43 Well I was looking at Romans 1:16-17. 00:51:59.44\00:52:02.60 Oh, lets go there. 00:52:02.61\00:52:05.54 Which is Paul's declaration here 00:52:05.55\00:52:08.64 about the power of the gospel. 00:52:08.65\00:52:10.65 Okay, and he says here 00:52:10.66\00:52:12.11 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, 00:52:12.12\00:52:14.24 for it is the power of God to salvation 00:52:14.25\00:52:17.63 for everyone who believes, 00:52:17.64\00:52:19.61 for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 00:52:19.62\00:52:22.50 For in it the righteousness of God 00:52:22.51\00:52:24.78 is revealed from faith to faith, 00:52:24.79\00:52:28.83 as it is written, 'The just shall live by faith'." 00:52:28.84\00:52:31.45 So the statement here of the righteousness of Christ 00:52:31.46\00:52:34.10 is revealed from faith to faith, is this walk of faith. 00:52:34.11\00:52:37.69 It's faith to faith because each foot 00:52:37.70\00:52:39.79 is taking each step of faith. 00:52:39.80\00:52:41.64 And as you're walking through life from faith to faith 00:52:41.65\00:52:45.42 you're gaining victory through every step 00:52:45.43\00:52:48.81 as you're walking in that faith walk. 00:52:48.82\00:52:51.58 Romans Chapter 8 is an entire chapter 00:52:51.59\00:52:54.17 about walking in the spirit and not in the flesh. 00:52:54.18\00:52:56.64 Right. That it's a faith walk. 00:52:56.65\00:52:58.19 That's true. Yeah. 00:52:58.20\00:53:00.23 I like that you're bringing that out. 00:53:00.24\00:53:02.20 I like the way you did the step to step 00:53:02.21\00:53:04.24 because sometimes you're walking 00:53:04.25\00:53:05.48 in the valley of shadows. 00:53:05.49\00:53:07.25 And it is a serious faith walk. 00:53:07.26\00:53:09.69 And reality to the challenges 00:53:09.70\00:53:12.75 that we face in our world today. 00:53:12.76\00:53:14.23 There are many people right now watching this program. 00:53:14.24\00:53:16.23 There're some of them that are in this valley of shadows. 00:53:16.24\00:53:18.55 The reason why we chose this topic 00:53:18.56\00:53:20.74 over just a doctrinal topic, 00:53:20.75\00:53:22.68 is because our world is in turbulence today. 00:53:22.69\00:53:25.04 A lot of people that are, you know, 00:53:25.05\00:53:27.17 we talk about the stability of the job market 00:53:27.18\00:53:29.12 and whether or not jobs are gonna go up or down. 00:53:29.13\00:53:31.46 That's not a fact for the Christians 00:53:31.47\00:53:32.93 who has faith that God will provide. 00:53:32.94\00:53:35.37 But one foot in front of the other. 00:53:35.38\00:53:39.15 That faith walk, "Okay, Lord I'm going by faith. 00:53:39.16\00:53:43.06 I'm moving by faith." 00:53:43.07\00:53:44.97 You're walking in that race. 00:53:44.98\00:53:46.97 That's right. Of endurance. 00:53:46.98\00:53:49.30 And I like the fact you use the word walk in faith 00:53:49.31\00:53:52.61 or walk in the race because races are not always running. 00:53:52.62\00:53:56.10 That's right, sometimes you got to walk 00:53:56.11\00:53:58.02 and that's how you are able to endure better. 00:53:58.03\00:54:00.16 My wife knows that, because I said, 00:54:00.17\00:54:02.03 you know, she could walk a lot longer than I could run. 00:54:02.04\00:54:04.76 And that makes a difference. 00:54:04.77\00:54:06.06 In the same way, when we walk in that faith walk, 00:54:06.07\00:54:09.28 one foot in front of other walking from faith to faith 00:54:09.29\00:54:12.74 it reveals the righteousness of God. 00:54:12.75\00:54:14.61 In other words, what it's saying is 00:54:14.62\00:54:17.20 by living that life of faith, 00:54:17.21\00:54:19.28 Christ is seen more clearly in your life. 00:54:19.29\00:54:21.71 Because you're a person who believes. 00:54:21.72\00:54:23.32 And people say, "How did that happen, John?" 00:54:23.33\00:54:26.07 I just kept going foreword by faith, 00:54:26.08\00:54:28.35 and God rewarded my faith. 00:54:28.36\00:54:30.47 The righteousness of God being revealed. 00:54:30.48\00:54:33.28 You know, and kind of the great place to end up, 00:54:33.29\00:54:35.66 'cause I know we're slipping away, 00:54:35.67\00:54:37.47 is a little text in 1st Peter. 00:54:37.48\00:54:41.31 Okay, 1st Peter. And it starts with chapter 3. 00:54:41.32\00:54:45.73 I mean excuse me, chapter 1, verse 3. 00:54:45.74\00:54:48.71 Talking about how Christ is begotten us 00:54:48.72\00:54:50.93 again through his mercy. 00:54:50.94\00:54:52.97 And how we are-- its almost like 00:54:52.98\00:54:55.35 here's how you are walking this walk of faith. 00:54:55.36\00:54:57.64 1st Peter 3? 1st Peter 1. 00:54:57.65\00:54:59.93 Okay 1st Peter 1. Starting with verse 3, okay. 00:54:59.94\00:55:02.63 And so it says, "Blessed be the God 00:55:02.64\00:55:05.54 and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:55:05.55\00:55:07.12 who according to His abundant mercy 00:55:07.16\00:55:08.70 has begotten us again to a living hope 00:55:08.71\00:55:10.99 through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 00:55:11.00\00:55:12.85 to an inheritance incorruptible 00:55:12.86\00:55:14.76 and undefiled, that does not fade away, 00:55:14.77\00:55:17.11 reserved in heaven for you, 00:55:17.12\00:55:19.10 who are kept by the power of God through..." 00:55:19.11\00:55:21.58 What? Through faith. 00:55:21.59\00:55:23.25 "Through faith for salvation 00:55:23.26\00:55:25.09 ready to be revealed in the last days, or last time." 00:55:25.10\00:55:29.56 "In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, 00:55:29.57\00:55:33.39 if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 00:55:33.40\00:55:36.23 that the genuineness of your faith, 00:55:36.24\00:55:39.34 believing much more precious than gold that perishes, 00:55:39.35\00:55:43.53 though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, 00:55:43.54\00:55:46.54 honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 00:55:46.55\00:55:49.20 whom having not seen you love. 00:55:49.21\00:55:51.46 Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice 00:55:51.47\00:55:57.20 with joy inexpressible and full of glory." 00:55:57.21\00:55:59.20 And then look at this little verse, 00:55:59.21\00:56:01.00 "Receiving the end of your faith." 00:56:01.01\00:56:03.10 In other words the end of race, 00:56:03.11\00:56:04.89 "The salvation of your souls." 00:56:04.90\00:56:06.79 Wow, I like that it mentions three times 00:56:06.80\00:56:09.54 the power of God through faith, 00:56:09.55\00:56:11.82 the genuineness of your faith, 00:56:11.83\00:56:14.23 and the end of your faith. 00:56:14.24\00:56:15.54 Wow, that is that is beautiful showing the steps 00:56:15.55\00:56:19.13 that are taking in a person 00:56:19.14\00:56:20.51 whose life is continually moving forward 00:56:20.52\00:56:23.16 and onward and upward in Christ. 00:56:23.17\00:56:25.07 Starts with faith, you walk with faith 00:56:25.08\00:56:28.59 and at the end of faith saves you 00:56:28.60\00:56:30.11 with the redemption with the second coming of Christ. 00:56:30.12\00:56:32.31 Wow, that's-- I hadn't included 00:56:32.32\00:56:34.10 that in my syllabus here, but it fits perfectly 00:56:34.11\00:56:37.38 because it is in the contrast. 00:56:37.39\00:56:39.98 Did you begin with verse 5? 00:56:39.99\00:56:41.32 With verse 3, okay, it begins included in that contrast is, 00:56:41.33\00:56:47.06 "Who are kept by the power of God through faith, 00:56:47.07\00:56:50.90 yes, how we kept through faith." 00:56:50.91\00:56:53.61 The trails that come we got to face them through faith. 00:56:53.62\00:56:56.69 Yeah. Yeah, every time. 00:56:56.70\00:56:58.90 And it's- it can be struggle. 00:56:58.91\00:57:00.06 I realize this, don't let anybody tell you, 00:57:00.07\00:57:02.90 when you're baptized, when you come out of that water. 00:57:02.91\00:57:04.54 It's going to get easy. It's not easy. 00:57:04.55\00:57:07.98 Because submitting, humility, meekness, the things 00:57:07.99\00:57:11.88 we differ to God for his salvation that's not easy. 00:57:11.89\00:57:14.71 But it is the all the power of God. 00:57:14.72\00:57:16.47 That's right and John here at House Calls 00:57:16.48\00:57:18.70 we believe in encouraging you 00:57:18.71\00:57:20.08 and keeping you strong in the faith. 00:57:20.09\00:57:22.30 Contend for the faith that was once delivered to you 00:57:22.31\00:57:24.78 because one day when the Lord 00:57:24.79\00:57:26.01 comes to make a House Call on your life, 00:57:26.02\00:57:27.87 we pray that he will find someone 00:57:27.88\00:57:29.64 who has been walking in faith. 00:57:29.65\00:57:31.53 God bless you until we see you again. 00:57:31.54\00:57:33.64 Have a great day. 00:57:33.65\00:57:34.68
