It's time now Kevin to dive 00:02:22.01\00:02:24.81 into the word and to open up our first question. 00:02:24.82\00:02:27.13 Do you have one to start us off with? 00:02:27.14\00:02:28.61 I do. Question is in Acts Chapter 19, 00:02:28.62\00:02:32.80 "The seven sons of Sceva attempt to rebuke Satan 00:02:32.81\00:02:35.51 without authority. They were beaten and left naked." 00:02:35.52\00:02:38.70 This also occurred to another individual 00:02:38.71\00:02:40.18 in the Old Testament. 00:02:40.19\00:02:41.80 We discuss this and this really not an example 00:02:41.81\00:02:43.80 in the Old Testament where one rebukes the devil 00:02:43.81\00:02:47.00 or earthly people. But, there is a one in the New Testament 00:02:47.01\00:02:51.13 of certain instance I can think of. 00:02:51.14\00:02:53.38 But at the end of the question says, 00:02:53.39\00:02:54.66 I can't find the passage, okay, please clarify. 00:02:54.67\00:02:57.29 And also how do we modern individuals stand a chance. 00:02:57.30\00:03:00.91 The demon fear Jesus and the Apostles but not us. 00:03:00.92\00:03:05.32 I like to turn real quickly on that story 00:03:05.33\00:03:07.76 in Acts Chapter 19, the seven sons of Sceva. 00:03:07.77\00:03:11.45 It says now God worked, verse 11. 00:03:11.46\00:03:13.26 Now God works unusual miracles 00:03:13.27\00:03:15.03 by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs 00:03:15.04\00:03:17.83 or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, 00:03:17.84\00:03:20.22 and the diseases left them and the evil spirits 00:03:20.23\00:03:22.52 went out of them. Then some of the itinerant Jewish 00:03:22.53\00:03:26.00 exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name 00:03:26.01\00:03:28.39 of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, 00:03:28.40\00:03:31.33 saying, "We exorcise you by the Jesus 00:03:31.34\00:03:35.04 whom Paul preaches." Also there were seven sons 00:03:35.05\00:03:37.71 of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. 00:03:37.72\00:03:41.32 And the evil spirit answered and said, 00:03:41.33\00:03:43.03 "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" 00:03:43.04\00:03:47.54 These word, these word Jews who were trying to benefit, 00:03:47.55\00:03:54.00 trying to use what Paul was doing. 00:03:54.01\00:03:56.37 The miracles that were taking place 00:03:56.38\00:03:58.27 to their own glory and so they thought that 00:03:58.28\00:04:01.10 they could go around cast out demons 00:04:01.11\00:04:03.34 by the Jesus who Paul knew, right, 00:04:03.35\00:04:05.47 and that's the key, right, exactly, you know, 00:04:05.48\00:04:07.48 and get themselves maybe a good reputation. 00:04:07.49\00:04:10.29 Above we find is the evil spirit basically says, 00:04:10.30\00:04:12.83 I know Paul, I knew Jesus but I have no idea who you are. 00:04:12.84\00:04:15.93 And the answer really is in the second part of verse 13 00:04:15.94\00:04:20.85 where they say, we exorcise you by the Jesus 00:04:20.86\00:04:23.55 whom Paul knows. The problem was, 00:04:23.56\00:04:26.32 it wasn't the Jesus who they knew. 00:04:26.33\00:04:28.50 They didn't know Jesus and that's why the demons 00:04:28.51\00:04:31.05 could have cared less what they were commanding 00:04:31.06\00:04:33.86 at that point. So that's why the demons 00:04:33.87\00:04:36.64 didn't respond. To answer the question 00:04:36.65\00:04:39.02 of that caller. Yes, demons do not fear us. 00:04:39.03\00:04:44.59 They do fear Christ, His authority. 00:04:44.60\00:04:47.41 They do fear other celestial beings who come down 00:04:47.42\00:04:51.41 in great power at times. But they do not fear us 00:04:51.42\00:04:54.30 because we're number one, we're not immortal, 00:04:54.31\00:04:56.94 we're not...we don't posses the power that Christ posses. 00:04:56.95\00:05:00.47 We're human but if we know Jesus as Paul knew Jesus, 00:05:00.48\00:05:06.28 we too can have the power that Paul had. 00:05:06.29\00:05:10.09 But an example of this problem 00:05:10.10\00:05:13.53 I guess that was asked will be in Matthew Chapter 17. 00:05:13.54\00:05:16.75 And we find there a story where the disciples 00:05:16.76\00:05:20.29 faced a dilemma and a boy was brought to them 00:05:20.30\00:05:25.40 and they could not cast out this demon. 00:05:25.41\00:05:28.67 Let's see here, we'll pick it up in Matthew Chapter 17 00:05:28.68\00:05:33.69 and verse...okay let's see, we'll just pick it up in 18. 00:05:33.70\00:05:37.48 The disciples couldn't cast out the demon. 00:05:37.49\00:05:39.82 They tell, come and tell Jesus about it, 00:05:39.83\00:05:41.55 the child is brought to him. 00:05:41.56\00:05:42.53 In verse 18, Jesus rebuked the demon, 00:05:42.54\00:05:44.46 and it came out of him, the child was cured 00:05:44.47\00:05:46.05 from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus 00:05:46.06\00:05:48.39 privately and said why couldn't we not cast it out? 00:05:48.40\00:05:51.97 So Jesus said because of your unbelief. 00:05:51.98\00:05:54.62 For surely I say to you, 00:05:54.63\00:05:55.66 if you have faith as a mustard seed, 00:05:55.67\00:05:56.90 you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here' 00:05:56.91\00:05:59.03 and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. 00:05:59.04\00:06:01.38 However here is the key verse. "However, 00:06:01.39\00:06:03.40 this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. 00:06:03.41\00:06:10.27 It did not mean that the disciples didn't know Jesus, 00:06:10.28\00:06:13.02 they did know Jesus. But sometimes 00:06:13.03\00:06:16.28 and faith plays such an important role here 00:06:16.29\00:06:19.04 and it's good because the Bible say every man 00:06:19.05\00:06:20.82 has been given a measure of faith. 00:06:20.83\00:06:21.99 You know, it's not that there some people 00:06:22.00\00:06:23.13 that don't have faith. 00:06:23.14\00:06:24.35 God has given everybody a measure of faith. 00:06:24.36\00:06:26.39 Right, right. But sometimes it takes little more 00:06:26.40\00:06:28.45 than just the word. It takes a little more 00:06:28.46\00:06:30.22 than our daily routine of spending time with the Lord 00:06:30.23\00:06:33.22 in the morning praying. 00:06:33.23\00:06:34.67 Sometimes it takes little more than that, 00:06:34.68\00:06:35.91 it takes prayer and fasting. 00:06:35.92\00:06:37.71 So sometimes we need to give a little more so to speak, 00:06:37.72\00:06:40.02 you know, we got to plea, we got to beg, 00:06:40.03\00:06:42.16 we got to put bend every, all of our spiritual energies 00:06:42.17\00:06:45.55 and surrender and make sure that number one 00:06:45.56\00:06:47.65 is nothing in our own life we're clinging to. 00:06:47.66\00:06:49.63 So that the Lord can work through us 00:06:49.64\00:06:52.48 and that we're true in a state of surrender. 00:06:52.49\00:06:54.90 So yes, the demons don't fear us, 00:06:54.91\00:06:57.44 but they do fear the authority of Christ, right. 00:06:57.45\00:06:59.77 And if we know Jesus as Paul did, 00:06:59.78\00:07:02.57 then we too can have that same authority. 00:07:02.58\00:07:04.85 Yeah. You know, and Paul had been having 00:07:04.86\00:07:06.14 an experience of growth, a growth period with Christ. 00:07:06.15\00:07:10.72 He'd become very personal and becoming his all basically 00:07:10.73\00:07:14.56 in everything that he did. 00:07:14.57\00:07:16.20 Paul was a very... a man that could boast 00:07:16.21\00:07:19.20 about anything if he wanted to. 00:07:19.21\00:07:20.96 But he become very humble, right, 00:07:20.97\00:07:22.72 and I think with great humility 00:07:22.73\00:07:24.06 there comes a lot of dependence upon Christ 00:07:24.07\00:07:27.80 and His will. Christ in his strength, 00:07:27.81\00:07:29.94 Christ in his authority which Paul did. 00:07:29.95\00:07:32.68 And so none of these things that Paul did that is, 00:07:32.69\00:07:36.31 I mean, amazing story in that Book of Acts it says 00:07:36.32\00:07:38.96 that even things that were brought, 00:07:38.97\00:07:40.34 that were from Paul provided an avenue 00:07:40.35\00:07:42.88 of healing for them. So this power, 00:07:42.89\00:07:46.07 this authority from Christ that was given to Paul 00:07:46.08\00:07:48.95 was also passed on by Paul. 00:07:48.96\00:07:51.20 But Paul know where he was boasting 00:07:51.21\00:07:53.78 which allowed Christ authority to move freely. 00:07:53.79\00:07:56.71 And the disciples here in this story 00:07:56.72\00:07:58.32 were still learning. They were still growing 00:07:58.33\00:08:00.62 and I think God allowed them to experience a defeat, 00:08:00.63\00:08:04.44 sure, sure, to show them the importance 00:08:04.45\00:08:06.89 of depending upon Him for that authority 00:08:06.90\00:08:08.89 and that power. 00:08:08.90\00:08:10.24 And which we need to learn everyday. 00:08:10.25\00:08:12.21 You know, I've said a couple of times 00:08:12.22\00:08:13.81 when people talk about well, you know, 00:08:13.82\00:08:15.35 I just say in Jesus name and the devil will leave. 00:08:15.36\00:08:18.47 And it's like this thought, this preconceived how I'll go 00:08:18.48\00:08:21.62 about eliminating the power of the enemy 00:08:21.63\00:08:23.80 if I ever come across him. 00:08:23.81\00:08:25.78 But I think the biggest thing that we can remember 00:08:25.79\00:08:27.95 upfront is that if we're depending upon Jesus, 00:08:27.96\00:08:31.28 that we allow Him to do the rebuking, exactly. 00:08:31.29\00:08:35.05 The Lord rebuke you not I rebuke you, 00:08:35.06\00:08:38.39 that is very important for us to remember 00:08:38.40\00:08:40.40 because we've nothing to offer 00:08:40.41\00:08:42.52 that would fight the enemy. 00:08:42.53\00:08:43.89 We're totally weak and totally depended upon Christ. 00:08:43.90\00:08:46.64 And He gave us, Jesus gave us 00:08:46.65\00:08:47.92 the ultimate example that when the temptations 00:08:47.93\00:08:49.89 in the wilderness, you know, thus it is written. 00:08:49.90\00:08:52.84 You know, it is written and so, 00:08:52.85\00:08:54.67 so we find that the authority rest in God's word 00:08:54.68\00:08:57.25 and the words that Christ gave us. Yeah. 00:08:57.26\00:08:58.90 And Paul is very careful to make sure that 00:08:58.91\00:09:01.40 no one put their faith in him, right, you know, 00:09:01.41\00:09:03.88 if a handkerchief from his pocket healed someone 00:09:03.89\00:09:08.41 and they came and said oh, 00:09:08.42\00:09:09.39 and they came to worship him. 00:09:09.40\00:09:10.41 Paul wouldn't accept that. No, no. 00:09:10.42\00:09:12.15 You know, it'll be very tempting for some 00:09:12.16\00:09:13.21 individuals which is why we saw 00:09:13.22\00:09:14.79 the seven sons of Sceva, that's what they want. 00:09:14.80\00:09:16.64 Hey we can wield this power. Yeah, this great. 00:09:16.65\00:09:18.53 We're running out this thing., you know. 00:09:18.54\00:09:20.17 But, yeah good point and good question for sending 00:09:20.18\00:09:22.90 that in because I think we can all learn a lot. 00:09:22.91\00:09:24.72 It's a good reminder of our dependence upon Christ. 00:09:24.73\00:09:28.01 I've a question here one fairly quick one 00:09:28.02\00:09:31.00 and then one that's a little longer. 00:09:31.01\00:09:33.30 It comes from Darlene. Thank you Darlene for sending 00:09:35.01\00:09:38.48 this in. I was listening to our local Christian 00:09:38.49\00:09:41.04 radio program and the host made a comment 00:09:41.05\00:09:43.32 that the last supper was on a Wednesday, is this correct? 00:09:43.33\00:09:47.06 You know, I just wanna share here briefly 00:09:47.07\00:09:49.02 we've had this question before. 00:09:49.03\00:09:50.80 Many try to move back, I guess I would say 00:09:50.81\00:09:55.35 the Garden of Gethsemane experience the upper room 00:09:55.36\00:09:59.56 experience to Wednesday, the last supper as well 00:09:59.57\00:10:04.53 in the upper room to Wednesday because 00:10:04.54\00:10:06.07 they are trying to fit in the three days 00:10:06.08\00:10:08.00 and three nights of Jonah. 00:10:08.01\00:10:10.26 And they don't understand necessarily 00:10:10.27\00:10:12.36 that the Bible beliefs in one thing 00:10:12.37\00:10:14.28 first inclusive reckoning rule, 00:10:14.29\00:10:16.76 which is very important. 00:10:16.77\00:10:18.46 So if you're talking about any specific day 00:10:18.47\00:10:20.67 you've to include that day, even though it's a part, 00:10:20.68\00:10:23.45 even though it's an hour too you include that day 00:10:23.46\00:10:25.59 in the count. And that's how the Hebrew mindset 00:10:25.60\00:10:27.35 always worked, always worked. 00:10:27.36\00:10:28.85 And so when you're thinking, you know, 00:10:28.86\00:10:30.49 when Jesus made the statement that, you know, 00:10:30.50\00:10:33.67 I will raise this temple up and referring to Himself 00:10:33.68\00:10:36.88 in three days. We're talking about 00:10:36.89\00:10:39.34 His crucifixion happened on Friday which was very clear 00:10:39.35\00:10:41.77 from scriptures. Read Luke, I believe its transition 00:10:41.78\00:10:46.47 from 23 to 24, it talks about how on the preparation day 00:10:46.48\00:10:50.70 is when He passed away on the cross. 00:10:50.71\00:10:53.63 They buried Him on that day, He rested in the grave 00:10:53.64\00:10:56.54 on the Sabbath and then on Sunday morning 00:10:56.55\00:10:59.29 when the first, sun was first starting to come up 00:10:59.30\00:11:01.71 of course He rose from the grave, right, 00:11:01.72\00:11:04.51 from the tomb. So you've three days there 00:11:04.52\00:11:07.22 in the mindset of the Hebrew using inclusive reckoning, 00:11:07.23\00:11:10.84 there were three days, Friday, Saturday, 00:11:10.85\00:11:13.57 Sunday resurrection day. And so there was no problem 00:11:13.58\00:11:16.59 with that. In our mindset, you know, 00:11:16.60\00:11:19.01 in our culture today, we try to fit every piece 00:11:19.02\00:11:21.61 or every hour of every day and so preachers 00:11:21.62\00:11:24.70 or teachers will sometimes try to move that back 00:11:24.71\00:11:27.11 and say well, you know, it didn't happened on Thursday 00:11:27.12\00:11:28.89 it happened on Wednesday, right. 00:11:28.90\00:11:30.86 And there is a problem there. We answered I think 00:11:30.87\00:11:32.72 a question recently about Jonah, 00:11:32.73\00:11:34.67 as Jonah was in the belly of a whale three days 00:11:34.68\00:11:36.54 and three nights. Well we find in answer 00:11:36.55\00:11:40.07 to that question, you know, 00:11:40.08\00:11:41.58 well where is your third night. 00:11:41.59\00:11:43.48 Not only it's inclusive reckoning we find that Christ 00:11:44.81\00:11:47.00 experience in the Garden of Gethsemane 00:11:47.01\00:11:48.79 began the separation from His Father. 00:11:48.80\00:11:50.66 He talked about I'm sorrowful even unto death. 00:11:50.67\00:11:53.44 I mean He was pouring out sweat and drops of blood 00:11:53.45\00:11:56.67 on to the ground because of the agony 00:11:56.68\00:11:58.39 He was in even at that point. 00:11:58.40\00:12:00.15 He was drinking from the cup of God's wrath, 00:12:00.16\00:12:03.15 of His Father's wrath tasting it. 00:12:03.16\00:12:05.34 And so in that respect His agony, 00:12:05.35\00:12:07.83 His experience even betrayed into the hands of sinners 00:12:07.84\00:12:11.24 and the sin he drink that night on Thursday night 00:12:11.25\00:12:14.05 began to process that He experienced on the cross. 00:12:14.06\00:12:16.65 So there is again three days and three night 00:12:16.66\00:12:18.98 that you got...Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night, 00:12:18.99\00:12:24.35 you've got Friday, Saturday, of course Sunday morning. 00:12:24.36\00:12:29.00 So you don't have to force fit this thing. 00:12:29.01\00:12:31.98 You know, the Bible is very clear and especially 00:12:31.99\00:12:34.36 with regard to Luke Chapter 22, 23 actually 23, 24. 00:12:34.37\00:12:38.80 Look at that you'll find the days 00:12:38.81\00:12:40.07 are spelled out very clearly there is to what happened. 00:12:40.08\00:12:42.10 And you run, and you run into problems 00:12:42.11\00:12:43.13 when you really try to, you know, 00:12:43.14\00:12:45.74 put scripture round here and there to try to fit, 00:12:45.75\00:12:48.24 you know, what our logical minds what we're used to. 00:12:48.25\00:12:50.49 You in the process depicting other scripture. 00:12:50.50\00:12:51.47 Yeah, exactly, the Preparation Day says it all. 00:12:51.48\00:12:53.22 Preparation is always Friday. 00:12:53.23\00:12:54.60 That's right. And the night before it was Garden 00:12:54.61\00:12:56.25 of Gethsemane and the belly of the earth, you know, 00:12:56.26\00:12:58.31 that was, yeah, so the experiences going through. 00:12:58.32\00:13:01.09 Anyway thank you very much for that question. 00:13:01.10\00:13:03.05 Now our question I think may take a little longer 00:13:03.06\00:13:05.34 but hopefully not so much. Is a question that comes 00:13:05.35\00:13:10.21 from Nikrisha. Thank you very much Nikisha. 00:13:10.22\00:13:13.31 Nikisha, or Nikrisha, I don't know exactly 00:13:13.32\00:13:15.03 how that's pronounced but forgive me 00:13:15.04\00:13:16.85 if I said it wrong. My husband and I are confused 00:13:16.86\00:13:22.09 about which day is the true Bible seventh day Sabbath. 00:13:22.10\00:13:27.28 The Hebrew lunar calendar seems to be the calendar 00:13:27.29\00:13:30.86 the Israelites followed after their Exodus from Egypt. 00:13:30.87\00:13:35.24 Based upon the dates given in Exodus 12, 18 and 22 00:13:35.25\00:13:38.71 when they killed the Passover Lamb on the 14th day 00:13:38.72\00:13:41.28 of the month. Then I suggest the children of Israel 00:13:41.29\00:13:43.49 traveled all night of the 14th and then finally crossed 00:13:43.50\00:13:46.79 the Red Sea as morning approached 00:13:46.80\00:13:48.49 which would have been the 15th the Sabbath day. 00:13:48.50\00:13:51.37 Exodus 14, 24 to 27 in numbers 33:3. 00:13:51.38\00:13:55.37 And she goes on to talk about some other dates 00:13:55.38\00:13:57.64 that connect in with the lunar calendar, you know, 00:13:57.65\00:14:00.15 that the calendar of the Jews, the Israelites 00:14:00.16\00:14:03.19 back then and the Jews even during Christ day. 00:14:03.20\00:14:06.82 Here's one of the things that we really need to remember. 00:14:06.83\00:14:10.61 The Jews did base their calendar 00:14:10.62\00:14:12.63 upon the lunar cycle, 360 day. 00:14:12.64\00:14:15.60 It's a 360 days cycle 30 days for each month times 12. 00:14:15.61\00:14:21.58 However the Sabbath was not based upon that calendar. 00:14:21.59\00:14:25.63 They said that the weekly, the seventh-day Sabbath, 00:14:25.64\00:14:28.94 the Fourth Commandment Sabbath was not based 00:14:28.95\00:14:31.33 upon the lunar calendar, is based upon the week. 00:14:31.34\00:14:35.06 That is the only reason why we have a week today 00:14:35.07\00:14:37.61 is because God created the world in six days 00:14:37.62\00:14:40.68 and on the seventh day He rested from all that 00:14:40.69\00:14:43.05 He had done. Now there are ceremonial Sabbaths 00:14:43.06\00:14:46.89 that coincide with the lunar calendar, 00:14:46.90\00:14:49.90 but not the weekly Sabbath. 00:14:49.91\00:14:51.82 Weekly Sabbath is based always upon the week, 00:14:51.83\00:14:54.73 so don't get confused by what should be tied 00:14:54.74\00:14:58.20 to lunar calendar issues and what should be tied 00:14:58.21\00:15:01.15 to the weekly cycle. The seventh-day Sabbath 00:15:01.16\00:15:04.02 is always been tied to the weekly Sabbath. 00:15:04.03\00:15:05.66 The Jews had been keeping it for centuries now, 00:15:05.67\00:15:08.91 but even prior to that Israelites, prior to that, 00:15:08.92\00:15:13.10 you have the Patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, 00:15:13.11\00:15:19.63 and goes way back to creation we know this. 00:15:19.64\00:15:22.66 So we shouldn't, don't get confused, 00:15:22.67\00:15:24.54 there is this theory out there now that 00:15:24.55\00:15:26.88 the seventh-day Sabbath is also tied to the lunar 00:15:26.89\00:15:29.93 kind of the lunisolar calendar system so to speak, 00:15:29.94\00:15:34.33 and there are some papers spread out on this. 00:15:34.34\00:15:36.54 You know, what to me nonsense. Absolutely! 00:15:36.55\00:15:40.54 It is so biblically it lacks or biblical theology 00:15:40.55\00:15:45.52 that lacks for good hermeneutics, 00:15:45.53\00:15:47.52 for good acts of Jesus which is the pulling out 00:15:47.53\00:15:49.97 of the scripture what the scripture says. 00:15:49.98\00:15:51.85 There is so much added in there to make it fit, 00:15:51.86\00:15:54.44 it just doesn't work. 00:15:54.45\00:15:56.35 No it doesn't. And even when the calendar changes 00:15:56.36\00:15:58.53 throughout the centuries, the Julian calendar, 00:15:58.54\00:16:01.00 the Gregorian calendar, a calendar, none of those, 00:16:01.01\00:16:03.90 both those calendars never affected the weekly cycle. 00:16:03.91\00:16:07.95 It never shifted what day, because some people say 00:16:07.96\00:16:10.69 well how do we know? You know, 00:16:10.70\00:16:11.96 because the calendar is changed. 00:16:11.97\00:16:13.53 So maybe Tuesday really was the original 00:16:13.54\00:16:15.91 seventh-day Sabbath. But no, it's never changed. 00:16:15.92\00:16:19.79 And even the Romans recognized 00:16:19.80\00:16:21.38 the Jewish festivals and recognized 00:16:21.39\00:16:24.15 when those festivals occurred, right. 00:16:24.16\00:16:25.89 So we don't need to worry ourselves that 00:16:25.90\00:16:30.09 we're not keeping the original seventh-day Sabbath. 00:16:30.10\00:16:32.57 It's never changed, the Jews were extremely careful. 00:16:32.58\00:16:35.94 You know, one thing we know from Jewish history 00:16:35.95\00:16:37.09 is that when it came to numbers, when it came to, 00:16:37.10\00:16:40.74 you know, cycles they were very on top of that, yes. 00:16:40.75\00:16:43.79 That never changed. 00:16:43.80\00:16:44.87 They didn't miss a day, they didn't miss... No. 00:16:44.88\00:16:46.42 You know, there is a simple principle here 00:16:46.43\00:16:49.03 as well that we need to think about. 00:16:49.04\00:16:51.10 God makes clear the things that are required of man 00:16:51.11\00:16:55.97 for his salvation. Number one, by grace 00:16:55.98\00:17:00.30 we've been saved through faith. 00:17:00.31\00:17:01.64 He requires that we give up our life, 00:17:01.65\00:17:03.98 repent of our sins, and put our life 00:17:03.99\00:17:06.40 in Christ in His hands and by His works 00:17:06.41\00:17:08.98 we're saved not our own. Secondly, He requires 00:17:08.99\00:17:11.96 that we as a, as we walk with Christ that we keep 00:17:11.97\00:17:15.45 His commandments, that we follow in His ways, 00:17:15.46\00:17:17.43 that we obey Him, His own obedience there, 00:17:17.44\00:17:19.87 that's the requirement. And so God requires 00:17:19.88\00:17:22.85 that we remain in Christ through our corporation 00:17:22.86\00:17:26.26 with Him as He grows us, as He changes, 00:17:26.27\00:17:28.45 as He makes us the new. And part of that is the 00:17:28.46\00:17:32.16 Ten Commandments. But if the Ten Commandments 00:17:32.17\00:17:33.82 that are required. God will not make it a rocket science 00:17:33.83\00:17:38.26 to figure out what day is required 00:17:38.27\00:17:39.98 in the Fourth Commandment. 00:17:39.99\00:17:41.44 And He simply says the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:17:41.45\00:17:44.76 of the Lord thy God. Then He ties it to creation. 00:17:44.77\00:17:47.87 So you see without a doubt there that creation which is, 00:17:47.88\00:17:50.91 it happens in a week, in six days of that week 00:17:50.92\00:17:53.96 and the seventh day tied to that is the bases 00:17:53.97\00:17:56.50 for which the Fourth Commandment 00:17:56.51\00:17:57.81 is put into operation and put into effect. 00:17:57.82\00:18:01.13 And that's where we go to find out which day 00:18:01.14\00:18:03.63 is the seventh day. And that cycle as you said 00:18:03.64\00:18:05.36 has never changed because the calendar has changed. 00:18:05.37\00:18:07.62 When it changed to the, is it the Julian calendar 00:18:07.63\00:18:10.73 when we changed to. I think it went from October 4, 5 00:18:10.74\00:18:15.40 or something to 15 but the day did not change. 00:18:15.41\00:18:18.82 It still went from say Thursday to Friday 00:18:18.83\00:18:21.48 or whatever day I can't remember it was, 00:18:21.49\00:18:23.02 but the weekly cycle did not change whatsoever. 00:18:23.03\00:18:27.14 But people want to throw this stuff out there, you know, 00:18:27.15\00:18:29.30 it's like the thing we talked about recently 00:18:29.31\00:18:30.78 with making majors out of minors 00:18:30.79\00:18:33.68 with regard to the dailying. 00:18:33.69\00:18:35.10 And I think, and I think honestly with some people 00:18:35.11\00:18:36.64 it's an attempt to excuse it. 00:18:36.65\00:18:39.02 So you don't have to observe it. 00:18:39.03\00:18:41.14 You know, I mean come from all kinds of different mottos 00:18:41.15\00:18:43.19 May not be their attempt, but or their intent, 00:18:43.20\00:18:46.06 but it ends up being what happens 00:18:46.07\00:18:47.62 and we've to be very careful with that. 00:18:47.63\00:18:49.61 So I encourage you, you gonna find every wind 00:18:49.62\00:18:53.29 of doctrine out there, but make sure you're keeping 00:18:53.30\00:18:56.13 the word and make sure also that you're in harmony 00:18:56.14\00:18:58.66 with others who are keeping in the word. 00:18:58.67\00:19:00.83 The multitude of counselors is very important here. 00:19:00.84\00:19:03.43 And if we listen to one person 00:19:03.44\00:19:05.09 or even if there is another person that gets together 00:19:05.10\00:19:07.05 to champion that. We need to make sure 00:19:07.06\00:19:08.81 that we're staying in harmony with the direction 00:19:08.82\00:19:11.54 that God has set forth in His word and through His Church. 00:19:11.55\00:19:15.59 And that comes, the safety there comes 00:19:15.60\00:19:17.61 in the multitude of counselors. 00:19:17.62\00:19:18.82 And we encourage you to make sure that 00:19:18.83\00:19:20.13 you stay in harmony with that, because 00:19:20.14\00:19:22.47 that's where the safety is. Stay in the boat, 00:19:22.48\00:19:25.37 stay in the boat. As, as one writer said, 00:19:25.38\00:19:26.53 stay in the boat don't depart from the ship now, 00:19:26.54\00:19:28.88 it's too late stay with the brethren 00:19:28.89\00:19:30.74 and stay with above. All right, thank you 00:19:30.75\00:19:32.81 again for all your questions. 00:19:32.82\00:19:34.40 We'll wrapped up there, so it gives us a little more time 00:19:34.41\00:19:36.52 a few minutes more to cover our the last part 00:19:36.53\00:19:38.77 of our topic today. But I want to end here 00:19:38.78\00:19:41.43 by saying that you can send your questions 00:19:41.44\00:19:43.20 into housecalls@3abn.org, its housecalls@3abn.org 00:19:43.21\00:19:51.81 and we'll make sure we take those questions in 00:19:51.82\00:19:54.27 and do our best to provide biblical answers 00:19:54.28\00:19:56.66 for each and everyone of them. Thank you very much. 00:19:56.67\00:20:00.13 Our topic we got in, just really to dive 00:20:00.14\00:20:02.76 into the heavy part, the meaty part last, 00:20:02.77\00:20:05.15 in our last program. And today we're gonna get 00:20:05.16\00:20:07.96 into the subject of the power of grace, 00:20:07.97\00:20:11.14 more in looking at the aspect of what that power means 00:20:11.15\00:20:14.49 to the life of the Christian. When we give our life 00:20:14.50\00:20:17.74 to Christ we're saved by His grace through faith. 00:20:17.75\00:20:21.11 Then as Christ continues to pour out that grace upon us 00:20:21.12\00:20:23.91 to give us power and strength for living the Christian life 00:20:23.92\00:20:26.62 what does that mean to us individually. 00:20:26.63\00:20:28.84 You know, how should we pray for grace? 00:20:28.85\00:20:30.50 How should we look to God to provide for our needs? 00:20:30.51\00:20:33.02 We, ourselves cannot supply it. 00:20:33.03\00:20:34.95 We don't have the power and strength to supply it. 00:20:34.96\00:20:37.62 That's what we're gonna cover today. 00:20:37.63\00:20:39.33 I wouldn't mind throwing out a verse. 00:20:39.34\00:20:41.04 Yeah, let's start off with the verse. 00:20:41.05\00:20:42.62 Just bringing from that. And it's the beginning 00:20:42.63\00:20:45.01 of Romans Chapter 6, "What shall we say then? 00:20:45.02\00:20:47.91 Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" 00:20:47.92\00:20:51.40 You know, Paul previous talked about where sin 00:20:51.41\00:20:52.96 was grace was much more, you know, 00:20:52.97\00:20:55.00 but then he builds that up and then he finally says 00:20:55.01\00:20:57.22 because he realizes that some people are gonna say, 00:20:57.23\00:20:59.12 oh okay, well let's keep sin into the God's grace 00:20:59.13\00:21:01.19 will abound, you know. Right. 00:21:01.20\00:21:02.87 So then he starts Chapter 6 here saying, 00:21:02.88\00:21:05.01 "No, does not continue sin, that grace may abound. 00:21:05.02\00:21:09.20 Certainly not. How shall you who died to sin 00:21:09.21\00:21:12.63 and here's the thing, you know, 00:21:12.64\00:21:13.61 when you come to Christ, we die with Christ, 00:21:13.62\00:21:17.08 so to speak through baptism. 00:21:17.09\00:21:18.67 "How shall you who died to sin live any longer? 00:21:18.68\00:21:22.37 Do you not know that so many of us 00:21:22.38\00:21:23.73 as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized 00:21:23.74\00:21:25.74 into his death? Therefore we are buried with him 00:21:25.75\00:21:28.05 through baptism unto death that just as Christ 00:21:28.06\00:21:30.78 was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, 00:21:30.79\00:21:33.51 even so we also should walk the same 00:21:33.52\00:21:36.63 as we were before." No, it's not what the verse said, no. 00:21:36.64\00:21:39.53 Even so we should walk in newness of life. 00:21:39.54\00:21:42.57 Okay. So... You know, praise the Lord 00:21:42.58\00:21:45.10 for that because you are actually connecting 00:21:45.11\00:21:46.56 in Ephesians 2:10. Because God prepared the works 00:21:46.57\00:21:51.32 before Him that we should walk, walked in them, right. 00:21:51.33\00:21:54.57 And here you're quoting again from Paul saying 00:21:54.58\00:21:58.05 that we should walk in the newness of life. 00:21:58.06\00:22:00.53 Paul in Romans 8 talks about walking in the spirit. 00:22:00.54\00:22:04.46 Walking in the spirit. 00:22:04.47\00:22:05.44 So the walk with Christ is so dependent upon His grace, 00:22:05.45\00:22:10.77 His strength, His power, not ourselves. 00:22:10.78\00:22:13.72 You know, the program we did before Obedience 00:22:13.73\00:22:15.32 versus Legalism, that was the distinguishing factor 00:22:15.33\00:22:17.49 between the both, the two. 00:22:17.50\00:22:19.61 Obedience is when you depend upon Christ for His strength 00:22:19.62\00:22:22.86 and you walk in His grace, you walk in His strength 00:22:22.87\00:22:26.22 and under His power. Legalism is when you trust 00:22:26.23\00:22:29.26 in your own will power and strength and try to walk 00:22:29.27\00:22:31.97 and hold your life in harmony with His 00:22:31.98\00:22:33.93 without His power, that's legalism. 00:22:33.94\00:22:36.91 And grace actually is a global word, 00:22:36.92\00:22:38.71 this isn't just isolated to Bible. Actually even in some, 00:22:38.72\00:22:42.83 there have been some who interpreted the word grace 00:22:42.84\00:22:45.50 in Hindu religion as being something that 00:22:45.51\00:22:48.53 you merit based on your works. And that's not we are 00:22:48.54\00:22:51.78 talking about here, no. This isn't something 00:22:51.79\00:22:53.54 that you work for and then God says oh good job, 00:22:53.55\00:22:56.05 I'm gonna give you grace now. 00:22:56.06\00:22:57.80 No, it's the grace that empowers you to work, 00:22:57.81\00:23:00.82 to do the good work. Absolutely. 00:23:00.83\00:23:02.53 So... Works are impossible for us to do 00:23:02.54\00:23:05.47 without the grace of God. Exactly. 00:23:05.48\00:23:07.16 And so that's really Ephesians 2:8 through 10, 00:23:07.17\00:23:09.42 right there and that's what you're talking about here. 00:23:09.43\00:23:11.74 For someone to say and this goes back to the Jew verse 00:23:11.75\00:23:15.39 that we read in our first, in our first program 00:23:15.40\00:23:18.19 which was that some have crept in unnoticed 00:23:18.20\00:23:21.07 who turn the grace of God 00:23:21.08\00:23:22.12 into a license for immorality. 00:23:22.13\00:23:23.67 Paul is also debunking that notion. 00:23:23.68\00:23:25.74 He is saying, she just go ahead and sinning, 00:23:25.75\00:23:27.57 so grace can abound. Of course not! 00:23:27.58\00:23:30.00 Grace is to deliver you from the power of sin. 00:23:30.01\00:23:33.14 That's a very important point. 00:23:33.76\00:23:35.03 Amen, praise God. Now let's look at, 00:23:35.04\00:23:37.74 kind of to recap from where we went from last, 00:23:37.75\00:23:41.50 the last program to where we're today. 00:23:41.51\00:23:44.52 We define the difference between grace and mercy. 00:23:44.53\00:23:47.57 Grace receiving a power or something from God 00:23:47.58\00:23:50.50 that we don't deserve, that's His unmerited favor, 00:23:50.51\00:23:54.17 that's His blessing bestowed upon us. 00:23:54.18\00:23:56.52 Mercy is not receiving judgment, 00:23:56.53\00:23:58.55 not receiving from God, something we actually 00:23:58.56\00:24:00.39 do deserve. So now as we shift them into grace 00:24:00.40\00:24:03.49 and we look at the true meaning of grace 00:24:03.50\00:24:05.29 and its power and strength. We read a verse 00:24:05.30\00:24:09.50 from 2 Corinthians 12:9, "My grace is sufficient 00:24:09.51\00:24:11.94 for you: for my strength is made perfect 00:24:11.95\00:24:14.31 in your weakness." And then now a new verse 00:24:14.32\00:24:18.76 I'll share here with you from Ephesians Chapter 3 verse 7, 00:24:18.77\00:24:22.79 "Where Paul says that he became a minister 00:24:22.80\00:24:25.24 according to the gift of the grace of God 00:24:25.25\00:24:28.40 given to me by the effective working of His power." 00:24:28.41\00:24:33.41 Now I love that, because in here Paul is saying 00:24:33.42\00:24:37.43 that he became a minister by the grace of God 00:24:37.44\00:24:41.55 for the effective working of his power, right. 00:24:41.56\00:24:45.57 There is no power in our life. There is no power 00:24:45.58\00:24:48.59 in my life as a pastor. I can have no strength 00:24:48.60\00:24:51.83 unless God bestow His grace upon me every single day 00:24:51.84\00:24:56.02 throughout the day. That is the power 00:24:56.03\00:24:58.61 I get from God that enables me to live 00:24:58.62\00:25:01.61 the Christ like life. And Kevin, 00:25:01.62\00:25:05.39 I wanna share something, I wanna confess 00:25:05.40\00:25:07.84 and maybe you can probably identify with me here. 00:25:07.85\00:25:11.37 There are days I wake up and I get going 00:25:11.38\00:25:14.81 and I hit the day running, haven't spent time 00:25:14.82\00:25:17.37 with the Lord like I should, haven't prayed 00:25:17.38\00:25:20.28 and asked for His grace and I haven't asked for His power 00:25:20.29\00:25:23.04 to fill me through the indwelling spirit. 00:25:23.05\00:25:26.39 And I'm going through that day and all of a sudden 00:25:26.40\00:25:28.43 I'm a little irritated, little angry, little upset. 00:25:28.44\00:25:32.23 I lash back at somebody, I'm little harsh my wife says 00:25:32.24\00:25:35.12 well almost that kind was hurtful. 00:25:35.13\00:25:37.74 And I convicted right there, you know what, 00:25:37.75\00:25:39.62 I haven't spent this day, 00:25:39.63\00:25:41.47 haven't started this day with Jesus. 00:25:41.48\00:25:44.24 And it's not that I've lived the day unsaved, 00:25:44.25\00:25:51.35 God in His mercy doesn't throw me out. 00:25:51.36\00:25:55.43 But He doesn't forsake you. 00:25:55.44\00:25:56.48 You don't throw a family member out because 00:25:56.49\00:25:57.88 they make a mistake, but He is patiently there waiting, 00:25:57.89\00:26:00.86 you know, looking for me to ask for the grace, 00:26:00.87\00:26:03.25 the power to live that day which I haven't done. 00:26:03.26\00:26:06.68 I'm powerless! And it's daily choice. 00:26:06.69\00:26:08.95 It has to be a daily choice. I've got to get back 00:26:08.96\00:26:11.15 on my knees and sometimes it's too late. 00:26:11.16\00:26:13.16 Oh, not too late, it's too late in the day 00:26:13.17\00:26:16.11 to where it really matters a lot for that day. 00:26:16.12\00:26:18.41 And then you find yourself saying, 00:26:18.42\00:26:19.95 Lord please give me grace, forgive me. 00:26:19.96\00:26:22.35 Give me grace and mercy because it's not going well 00:26:22.36\00:26:26.89 and I thought... I look forward to that, absolutely. 00:26:26.90\00:26:28.19 I confess that that happens to me sometimes 00:26:28.20\00:26:30.42 and I need to remind myself each day 00:26:30.43\00:26:32.68 when I wake up. Lord, I pray for the baptism 00:26:32.69\00:26:36.43 of the Holy Spirit. I die daily to my sin as Paul said. 00:26:36.44\00:26:41.01 I seek your grace through the outpouring 00:26:41.02\00:26:44.05 of your Holy Spirit in my life, bring that pour out 00:26:44.06\00:26:46.07 that grace upon me, so that I might live this day 00:26:46.08\00:26:49.08 with You at the center of my life 00:26:49.09\00:26:52.59 and with Your power as my strength to overcome 00:26:52.60\00:26:55.60 the temptation when it comes, 00:26:55.61\00:26:56.76 because I know it's gonna come. Sure. 00:26:56.77\00:26:58.25 And it's when we don't do that, 00:26:58.26\00:26:59.70 when we don't spend time in the word 00:26:59.71\00:27:01.49 and with Christ that we overcome. 00:27:01.50\00:27:05.01 It seemed to be acting more upon impulse than 00:27:05.02\00:27:07.22 reason and power, you know. Yeah. 00:27:07.23\00:27:09.71 It's almost like you're saying somebody says 00:27:09.72\00:27:11.03 some that blind sight us and, you know, 00:27:11.04\00:27:13.71 you lash back and then you're like oh where 00:27:13.72\00:27:15.99 that come from. Yeah, I didn't spend that time 00:27:16.00\00:27:19.08 with the Lord this morning. And that's what it goes back 00:27:19.09\00:27:22.01 to relationship which really goes back to, 00:27:22.02\00:27:24.79 you know, the whole work of salvation, you know, 00:27:24.80\00:27:27.10 it's an invitation to a life transforming relationship 00:27:27.11\00:27:30.99 with Christ. And if it's a relationship 00:27:31.00\00:27:32.68 we got to spend time with Him. 00:27:32.69\00:27:34.19 And if we don't spend... well, we know 00:27:34.20\00:27:35.26 what happens if we don't spend time with our wives. 00:27:35.27\00:27:37.44 We know with any relationship, 00:27:37.45\00:27:38.56 you don't spend time with the person, 00:27:38.57\00:27:39.73 it dismantles, it crumbles. Yeah. 00:27:39.74\00:27:43.14 So yes, absolutely, got to spend time. 00:27:43.15\00:27:44.96 So think about this, so if the devil knows that 00:27:44.97\00:27:48.33 wouldn't he send people into the church to teach 00:27:48.34\00:27:52.20 that grace is simply the saving part 00:27:52.21\00:27:54.69 and that let's add this doctrine. 00:27:54.70\00:27:57.20 One saved always saved to it, 00:27:57.21\00:27:59.56 so that when people think that it's just kind of 00:27:59.57\00:28:03.22 a favor of God as He gives you the gift of grace, 00:28:03.23\00:28:05.66 that's all it needed to start you off with, 00:28:05.67\00:28:07.50 then you are good, right, and you are good always. 00:28:07.51\00:28:10.27 Isn't it just like him to kind of throw those doctrines in 00:28:10.28\00:28:13.52 to diminish our need everyday to depend upon 00:28:13.53\00:28:16.16 the power and strength of God? 00:28:16.17\00:28:17.85 And it's appealing, it's appealing 00:28:17.86\00:28:20.64 because we're carnal at heart 00:28:20.65\00:28:23.17 and it's not our inclination to do what is right. 00:28:23.18\00:28:25.90 You don't want to die to ourselves? 00:28:25.91\00:28:27.16 Oh! No, we don't, you know, because that takes work... 00:28:27.17\00:28:29.02 Ellen Sister White said the greatest battle ever fought 00:28:29.03\00:28:31.42 was the battle against self. 00:28:31.43\00:28:32.41 And I know that from experience, 00:28:32.42\00:28:34.19 you know that from experience. 00:28:34.20\00:28:35.61 And wouldn't it, isn't it appearing just to think well 00:28:35.62\00:28:39.18 it doesn't matter what kind of person I'm. 00:28:39.19\00:28:40.84 You know, I mean I don't like myself 00:28:40.85\00:28:42.77 but at least the Lord's grace just covers me 00:28:42.78\00:28:44.74 and I'm safe, you know. 00:28:44.75\00:28:45.72 So I, so I know this we're all fighting 00:28:45.73\00:28:47.22 a loosing battle anyway. 00:28:47.23\00:28:48.20 I'm just gonna throw in the towel and, 00:28:48.21\00:28:49.69 you know, when Jesus comes then I'll be translated. 00:28:49.70\00:28:51.46 Right. You know, that's not the way it is. 00:28:51.47\00:28:53.50 Not the way it works. No. 00:28:53.51\00:28:54.92 So it's got an appeal to it, 00:28:54.93\00:28:56.49 but very deceptive appeal to it. 00:28:56.50\00:28:58.71 And it makes God look good, you know, 00:28:58.72\00:29:00.32 kind of oh, yeah, sure His grace covers you. 00:29:00.33\00:29:02.38 He is so taller. Yeah. 00:29:02.39\00:29:03.36 He is so taller, He is so loving, 00:29:03.37\00:29:04.96 you know, but that's not. 00:29:04.97\00:29:06.48 It sounds good, but the end is really... 00:29:06.49\00:29:08.51 its corrupting ourselves really. 00:29:08.52\00:29:10.34 You know, I feel almost prompt you right now 00:29:10.35\00:29:12.79 to just kind of make an appeal 00:29:12.80\00:29:13.92 because I know some out there might be experiencing 00:29:13.93\00:29:16.40 that defeat everyday. 00:29:16.41\00:29:17.71 You know, the enemy has beat me up 00:29:17.72\00:29:20.13 everyday with this one sin. 00:29:20.14\00:29:22.68 You know, whether it be a lifestyle issue 00:29:22.69\00:29:24.69 or whether it be, you know, immoral issue or something, 00:29:24.70\00:29:29.06 you know, that I know God doesn't want this in my life, 00:29:29.07\00:29:31.37 but I've been beat up with it everyday 00:29:31.38\00:29:32.79 and I'm just at the point of giving up. 00:29:32.80\00:29:34.12 Why hasn't God delivered me, I prayed for it? 00:29:34.13\00:29:36.59 You know, I just want to encourage you 00:29:36.60\00:29:38.63 in the morning there are few steps to go through 00:29:38.64\00:29:41.94 in the process of re-establishing 00:29:41.95\00:29:44.88 that connection with God 00:29:44.89\00:29:46.00 and we talked about some of them already. 00:29:46.01\00:29:47.72 We talked about dying to self 00:29:47.73\00:29:50.15 and in the first part of dying to self 00:29:50.16\00:29:52.17 is not stepping out and going throughout the day 00:29:52.18\00:29:54.25 without spending time with Christ. 00:29:54.26\00:29:55.55 Dying to self is, I'm gonna set myself down 00:29:55.56\00:29:58.01 and I'm gonna spend time in the word 00:29:58.02\00:29:59.57 with my God, my Savior. 00:29:59.58\00:30:02.86 Setting your life, your will, your way aside 00:30:02.87\00:30:05.59 and allowing Him to come in 00:30:05.60\00:30:06.84 and ask for the Holy Spirit 00:30:06.85\00:30:07.91 to fill you with strength with power. 00:30:07.92\00:30:10.53 Ask for the grace of God to renew its part, 00:30:10.54\00:30:14.83 or its peace, its element within that salvation 00:30:14.84\00:30:18.70 experience that God promised you from the beginning. 00:30:18.71\00:30:21.41 Don't see it as a one time event. 00:30:21.42\00:30:23.17 Allow the grace to have that full impact 00:30:23.18\00:30:26.05 in your life again, in fact, each and every day. 00:30:26.06\00:30:28.50 And ask Christ to fill you with His spirit 00:30:28.51\00:30:31.58 which brings Christ into your life 00:30:31.59\00:30:33.73 and put Him at the helm of you ship. 00:30:33.74\00:30:36.79 Put Him in the driver seat of your car 00:30:36.80\00:30:41.41 and ask Him to do the driving that day. 00:30:41.42\00:30:43.28 Because as you do that and you're walking daily 00:30:43.29\00:30:46.01 with Christ in the spirit, 00:30:46.02\00:30:47.50 that's when the temptations come. 00:30:47.51\00:30:49.58 He gives you the power at the moment to overcome it. 00:30:49.59\00:30:52.77 You don't receive power 00:30:52.78\00:30:54.32 at the moment the temptation comes. 00:30:54.33\00:30:56.34 You receive power at the beginning of the day 00:30:56.35\00:30:58.64 that carries you through the temptations. 00:30:58.65\00:31:00.92 So your battery being charged. 00:31:00.93\00:31:02.65 You know, it's got to be charged, 00:31:02.66\00:31:03.98 if it's not charged and you go to get those 00:31:03.99\00:31:05.94 jumper cables to maybe jump to another battery, 00:31:05.95\00:31:07.97 it's not gonna work. Right. 00:31:07.98\00:31:09.39 How long will a quick dollar of gas 00:31:09.40\00:31:12.86 in your gas tank take you? Exactly. 00:31:12.87\00:31:14.59 It'll take you an hour, but, you know, 00:31:14.60\00:31:16.26 the tempter keeps coming, you need a full tank 00:31:16.27\00:31:18.72 at the beginning of the day. 00:31:18.73\00:31:19.78 And here's another for those who are discouraged 00:31:19.79\00:31:21.42 like you're addressing. Ephesians Chapter 4 verse 7, 00:31:21.43\00:31:25.53 but to each one of us grace was given 00:31:25.54\00:31:28.66 according to the measure of Christ's gift. 00:31:28.67\00:31:32.55 To each one of us. 00:31:32.56\00:31:33.66 And His grace has been given to everybody. 00:31:33.67\00:31:35.56 Grace has been given to you 00:31:35.57\00:31:37.26 according to the measure of Christ's gift. 00:31:37.27\00:31:39.11 And what was the measure of Christ gift? 00:31:39.12\00:31:41.95 Infinite! Infinite, you know. 00:31:41.96\00:31:44.23 But it's a gift, you know, like you said 00:31:44.24\00:31:46.79 think of it as a gift every morning, 00:31:46.80\00:31:48.03 you got to think it. That's right. 00:31:48.04\00:31:49.15 And you got to reach out and take it, 00:31:49.16\00:31:51.34 you know, and spend time with the Lord 00:31:51.35\00:31:52.78 and thank Him for it. Yeah. 00:31:52.79\00:31:54.60 Hart, you know, maybe we've been fearful, 00:31:54.61\00:31:58.20 we haven't understood grace in this way 00:31:58.21\00:31:59.59 and we haven't prayed pour out 00:31:59.60\00:32:00.86 Your grace upon me today. 00:32:00.87\00:32:02.63 You know, this is why the new meaning, 00:32:02.64\00:32:04.88 new meaning, it's an old meaning but it needs 00:32:04.89\00:32:06.47 to comeback to the forefront again, the power of grace, 00:32:06.48\00:32:08.52 this is where it comes into play. 00:32:08.53\00:32:09.67 Lord, I need your grace today, 00:32:09.68\00:32:11.76 pour out your grace and harmony throughout day 00:32:11.77\00:32:13.66 with whatever I need. 00:32:13.67\00:32:14.64 Also like you said, I think in one other, 00:32:14.65\00:32:16.05 I think in the last program maybe before... 00:32:16.06\00:32:18.08 that we sometimes focus so much on the mercy 00:32:18.09\00:32:19.92 and we forget about the empowering aspect of grace. 00:32:19.93\00:32:22.45 You know, wake up in the morning Bible says, 00:32:22.46\00:32:24.06 His mercies are new every morning. 00:32:24.07\00:32:25.29 Thank you for your mercy. 00:32:25.30\00:32:26.59 But more than your mercy Lord, I want power, 00:32:26.60\00:32:28.60 I need your grace. I need your grace. 00:32:28.61\00:32:30.19 because I know you're merciful. 00:32:30.20\00:32:32.37 And I wouldn't be here today if you weren't merciful, 00:32:32.38\00:32:34.89 but I want power to overcome, 00:32:34.90\00:32:36.54 you know, the things in my life. 00:32:36.55\00:32:37.78 I want power to live the Christian life. 00:32:37.79\00:32:39.80 I want power to be a benevolent person 00:32:39.81\00:32:43.65 to someone or to have a kind word... 00:32:43.66\00:32:45.47 Giving heart. giving heart, absolutely. 00:32:45.48\00:32:47.47 You know, just to recap from those 00:32:47.48\00:32:49.67 who may have missed the last program. 00:32:49.68\00:32:50.97 Grace, we defined as receiving something 00:32:50.98\00:32:54.46 that we don't deserve. Mercy as not receiving 00:32:54.47\00:32:58.48 something that we do deserve. Right. 00:32:58.49\00:33:00.40 So mercy is God giving it to us, 00:33:00.41\00:33:03.23 giving something to us, power, strength, 00:33:03.24\00:33:05.33 a blessing, whatever it is. 00:33:05.34\00:33:07.26 We don't deserve it, but He still gives it to us. 00:33:07.27\00:33:09.24 Mercy is He doesn't judge us, He doesn't condemn, 00:33:09.25\00:33:12.37 He gives us opportunity to walk with Him 00:33:12.38\00:33:15.37 and to be created a new. Right. 00:33:15.38\00:33:17.42 And so that is the mercy of God. 00:33:17.43\00:33:19.58 And so that's the difference we talked about last time, 00:33:19.59\00:33:22.09 I'm not sure we recap that. 00:33:22.10\00:33:23.19 But let me read a verse here, 00:33:23.20\00:33:24.27 Kevin, as we could as go forward from Romans 1 00:33:24.28\00:33:27.55 and I think you almost got there in your, 00:33:27.56\00:33:29.54 or maybe little passage actually in Romans 1 00:33:29.55\00:33:31.64 where you quoted from. Romans 1 verse 5 says, 00:33:31.65\00:33:34.40 Through Him we received grace 00:33:34.41\00:33:37.20 and apostleship for what, for obedience to the faith. 00:33:37.21\00:33:41.87 So grace is given to us 00:33:41.88\00:33:44.14 so that we might obey our faith. 00:33:44.15\00:33:46.98 The faith that we've began in our relationship 00:33:46.99\00:33:50.63 in our walk with Christ. Right, exactly. 00:33:50.64\00:33:52.25 So grace is there to give us power 00:33:52.26\00:33:54.12 and strength to obey. All right, now let me share 00:33:54.13\00:33:58.06 something here to kind of take this 00:33:58.07\00:34:00.12 to kind of a next step. I've a friend of mine 00:34:00.13\00:34:02.89 and he is doing a lot of studying and experimenting. 00:34:02.90\00:34:08.56 He works for a company, I won't name the company 00:34:08.57\00:34:10.20 to kind of put him on the spot, 00:34:10.21\00:34:11.20 but he works for a company that does 00:34:11.21\00:34:12.43 a lot of research in the area of soy. 00:34:12.44\00:34:15.62 And as you know Adventist have been big on soy 00:34:15.63\00:34:18.33 for a long time, you know. 00:34:18.34\00:34:20.12 And, so there are definitely some health benefits 00:34:20.13\00:34:22.70 in eating a healthy lifestyle that include soy. 00:34:22.71\00:34:26.81 Too much soy is not good, but a level of soy provides 00:34:26.82\00:34:29.73 protein that we need for our life. 00:34:29.74\00:34:30.90 So anyway he is doing the, his company is doing 00:34:30.91\00:34:33.40 research on this, and they've blow down 00:34:33.41\00:34:38.06 to what they believe they found 00:34:38.07\00:34:40.10 which is the mechanism of action, so to speak. 00:34:40.11\00:34:43.48 The thing that provides the active agent 00:34:43.49\00:34:46.58 for the health benefits we receive in soy 00:34:46.59\00:34:50.46 and that active agent is called lunasin. 00:34:50.47\00:34:54.42 And you may heard, hear of this in the future coming 00:34:54.43\00:34:56.35 from this company. Anyway it's called lunasin, 00:34:56.36\00:34:59.36 so they are trying to extract or create beans 00:34:59.37\00:35:03.05 and even flower from the soybeans 00:35:03.06\00:35:05.39 that have high levels of lunasin 00:35:05.40\00:35:07.85 that provide more of a benefit, 00:35:07.86\00:35:10.26 that provides also the active agent for health. Right. 00:35:10.27\00:35:13.89 And so in doing this, you know, 00:35:13.90\00:35:15.84 as I was thinking about this. 00:35:15.85\00:35:17.34 I thought, you know, they considered this text 00:35:17.35\00:35:21.20 Ephesians 2 verses 8 and 9 there and 10 included. 00:35:21.21\00:35:25.86 For by grace we've been saved through faith. 00:35:25.87\00:35:28.97 And I thought wait a minute. 00:35:28.98\00:35:30.36 Faith is really so to speak the mechanism of action. 00:35:30.37\00:35:33.98 The activating agent for grace. Right. 00:35:33.99\00:35:37.87 so when we engage our faith which is active. 00:35:37.88\00:35:40.81 We put our faith in trusting God praying for His grace 00:35:40.82\00:35:44.20 that activates God in moving His heart 00:35:44.21\00:35:47.31 toward us to give us, bestow upon us His grace. 00:35:47.32\00:35:51.46 So several times I know that Jesus said 00:35:51.47\00:35:54.38 your faith has healed you, you faith has made you well. 00:35:54.39\00:35:58.85 Or when they couldn't cast out the demon, 00:35:58.86\00:36:00.79 you didn't have enough faith. 00:36:00.80\00:36:03.15 Faith was this activating agent that often 00:36:03.16\00:36:05.53 we don't want to exercise. 00:36:05.54\00:36:07.38 We're trying to do ourselves, but we need 00:36:07.39\00:36:09.69 to exercise the faith that God has given. 00:36:09.70\00:36:11.73 Now, I like the way you put it, 00:36:11.74\00:36:13.10 everyone is given a measure of it. 00:36:13.11\00:36:14.69 You've got faith, right, you need to exercise it. 00:36:14.70\00:36:17.92 And as you exercise it, that mechanism of action 00:36:17.93\00:36:21.42 that moves the hand of God, your faith will grow. 00:36:21.43\00:36:25.60 That's why I lik Hebrews 11:6, it says, 00:36:25.61\00:36:28.55 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, 00:36:28.56\00:36:31.34 for he who come to God must believe 00:36:31.35\00:36:33.54 that He exists. But not just that 00:36:33.55\00:36:35.67 but that He is a rewarder of those 00:36:35.68\00:36:37.98 who diligently seek Him. 00:36:37.99\00:36:39.26 If you are diligently seeking God, 00:36:39.27\00:36:41.58 then you're certainly number one, 00:36:41.59\00:36:42.56 you obviously have to believe He exists. 00:36:42.57\00:36:44.57 But when you're actively exercising in those 00:36:44.58\00:36:47.43 faith muscles we want to use that term, 00:36:47.44\00:36:49.41 God will reward that and that's the beauty of faith, 00:36:49.42\00:36:52.40 you know, and obviously Jesus said 00:36:52.41\00:36:54.12 if anyone has faith as a mustard seed 00:36:54.13\00:36:55.38 and in fact, it was relevant to the story of the disciples 00:36:55.39\00:36:58.69 that couldn't cast out the demon out of that boy. 00:36:58.70\00:37:01.69 When you think of a mustard seed, 00:37:01.70\00:37:03.73 some will say the size of mustard seed, 00:37:03.74\00:37:06.20 but I think Jesus says as a mustard seed. 00:37:06.21\00:37:08.78 Look at the conditions in which a mustard seed grows 00:37:08.79\00:37:11.48 or any seed for that matter, right. 00:37:11.49\00:37:13.17 Dark, dirty, damp, cold, it's uncomfortable, yes. 00:37:13.18\00:37:16.23 But, yet those are the very conditions in which 00:37:16.24\00:37:18.04 life springs out, you know, 00:37:18.05\00:37:20.63 where that seed will flourish. 00:37:20.64\00:37:22.27 And so if in those conditions we can flourish in Christ, 00:37:22.28\00:37:26.49 that's what is faith, yeah, you know. 00:37:26.50\00:37:28.67 You know, you really opened 00:37:28.68\00:37:31.68 just a whole huge thing for me. 00:37:31.69\00:37:33.53 When you quoted that verse because 00:37:33.54\00:37:35.40 without faith it's impossible to please Him, 00:37:35.41\00:37:37.55 but those who do exercise faith, He rewards. 00:37:37.56\00:37:41.58 You know, we talked, we already defined grace 00:37:41.59\00:37:43.96 as being the favor of God bestowed upon us, 00:37:43.97\00:37:47.89 that includes reward. 00:37:47.90\00:37:50.02 So whether it be a blessing that comes, 00:37:50.03\00:37:52.23 whether it be strength, that's a blessing. 00:37:52.24\00:37:54.86 But those are also a reward of faith. 00:37:54.87\00:37:58.05 Right, Exactly. 00:37:58.06\00:37:59.03 So faith comes first to activate to move 00:37:59.04\00:38:01.88 the hand of God that blesses, that rewards us. 00:38:01.89\00:38:05.89 And that reward is often times grace 00:38:05.90\00:38:08.59 in our life, you know. 00:38:08.60\00:38:10.56 Yeah, praise the Lord. You know, and that's 00:38:10.57\00:38:13.03 what a great way to think about our experience 00:38:13.04\00:38:15.58 of salvation today on this earth. 00:38:15.59\00:38:17.40 We're experiencing the rewards of heaven early. 00:38:17.41\00:38:22.08 We don't have to wait for the rewards 00:38:22.09\00:38:23.84 of the kingdom to come, but we can be rewarded 00:38:23.85\00:38:26.97 or experience those rewards even today 00:38:26.98\00:38:28.98 as we live and walk in Christ. 00:38:28.99\00:38:31.27 And that's what makes the Christian walk so enjoyable. 00:38:31.28\00:38:33.26 You know, we don't have to walk with our heads down, 00:38:33.27\00:38:35.58 moping and groping in this world. 00:38:35.59\00:38:36.85 We're not left unto ourselves. 00:38:36.86\00:38:38.46 You know, we serve a God who loves us, 00:38:38.47\00:38:40.62 who cares for us, who said He will never leave us 00:38:40.63\00:38:42.54 nor forsake us, and He has provided grace for us. 00:38:42.55\00:38:45.83 So every time a circumstance arise, 00:38:45.84\00:38:47.26 a challenge put it that way, 00:38:47.27\00:38:48.67 in our life we're not left alone. 00:38:48.68\00:38:50.51 God will provide grace and it's a joy knowing that, 00:38:50.52\00:38:54.70 you know. It's a joy knowing that when, 00:38:54.71\00:38:57.70 you know, the sum total of your income 00:38:57.71\00:39:02.55 does not equal the sum total of your out going bills. 00:39:02.56\00:39:07.40 That's right, that's right. 00:39:07.41\00:39:08.45 That God still has grace. 00:39:08.46\00:39:09.59 You know, He hasn't left us or forsaken us. 00:39:09.60\00:39:12.58 That's nice though we can ask for that 00:39:12.59\00:39:13.75 and we can certainly believe that He will give it to us. 00:39:13.76\00:39:15.92 Yeah, you know, I think day by day 00:39:15.93\00:39:17.90 as we experience the grace of God in our lives, 00:39:17.91\00:39:20.40 He is doing something in us. He is getting us ready. 00:39:20.41\00:39:22.44 I know that one in the recent program, 00:39:22.45\00:39:25.65 I think part one of this we had a question about 00:39:25.66\00:39:30.66 what's the importance of knowing 00:39:30.67\00:39:32.65 that Christ is in the most holy verses holy, 00:39:32.66\00:39:36.13 His transition from one of the next 00:39:36.14\00:39:38.20 and how that the most Holy is involving 00:39:38.21\00:39:40.47 the cleansing of sin, the putting away of sin, 00:39:40.48\00:39:43.32 the purifying of sin. 00:39:43.33\00:39:45.11 Well, the Bible in the New Testament 00:39:45.12\00:39:47.44 not only in the Book of Hebrews it supports that, 00:39:47.45\00:39:49.98 it tested that as we grow in Christ, 00:39:49.99\00:39:52.65 as we walk in Christ and He bestows 00:39:52.66\00:39:55.17 that grace upon us. He is doing it for a reason, 00:39:55.18\00:39:57.43 He is doing it to cleanse us, to purify us. 00:39:57.44\00:40:00.67 And so I'm gonna read Titus Chapter 2 verses 11 to 14 00:40:00.68\00:40:05.88 and let's see how this text might jump 00:40:05.89\00:40:08.27 out of this more than maybe it had before 00:40:08.28\00:40:10.57 understanding grace in this way. 00:40:10.58\00:40:12.55 You know, it's been power and strength from God, 00:40:12.56\00:40:14.45 in a way that purifies and cleanses us 00:40:14.46\00:40:17.17 in preparation for Christ return. 00:40:17.18\00:40:19.62 Titus Chapter 2 verse 11, 00:40:19.63\00:40:22.54 "For the grace of God that brings salvation 00:40:22.55\00:40:25.68 has appeared to all men. 00:40:25.69\00:40:28.35 Teaching us, notice grace teaches us, 00:40:28.36\00:40:32.81 it teaches us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts 00:40:33.39\00:40:37.42 we should live soberly, righteously, and Godly, 00:40:37.45\00:40:40.18 in this present age looking for the blessed hope, 00:40:40.19\00:40:43.50 and glorious appearing of our great God 00:40:43.51\00:40:46.11 and our Savior Jesus Christ; 00:40:46.12\00:40:47.32 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us 00:40:47.33\00:40:50.43 from every lawless deed, and purify for Himself 00:40:50.44\00:40:54.16 His own special people, zealous for good works." 00:40:54.17\00:40:58.06 You see the consequences then of grace. 00:40:58.24\00:41:00.36 Grace is appeared to all men, a clear statement God is there, 00:41:00.37\00:41:03.70 prepared His grace is poured out upon men. 00:41:03.71\00:41:06.95 We can't partake of that grace. 00:41:06.96\00:41:08.81 In the end of it the verse says 00:41:08.82\00:41:09.96 His own special people I think, yeah. 00:41:09.97\00:41:13.26 His people should be a reflection of Himself. 00:41:13.27\00:41:16.93 Just like usually a son is a reflection of the father 00:41:16.94\00:41:19.74 in most cases, you know. 00:41:19.75\00:41:21.29 If we're Christs', if we call God our father 00:41:21.30\00:41:26.46 and Christ our Lord, shouldn't there be some resemblance, 00:41:26.47\00:41:29.99 you know, what I mean. Absolutely. 00:41:30.39\00:41:31.87 I mean it's undeniable, 00:41:31.88\00:41:32.85 it's all throughout the New Testament. 00:41:32.86\00:41:34.03 His people have always been chosen throughout time 00:41:34.04\00:41:36.43 to exemplify His character and to do His works. 00:41:36.44\00:41:40.37 That's why His works are prepared before hand. 00:41:40.38\00:41:42.77 We keeps coming back to that Ephesians 2:10. 00:41:42.78\00:41:44.69 So this, you see this progression of the grace of God 00:41:44.70\00:41:47.93 appearing to all men teaching us 00:41:47.94\00:41:49.98 to deny ungodliness and worldly lust. 00:41:49.99\00:41:53.57 In other words, it's not, now I've been saved I can, 00:41:53.58\00:41:56.69 I'm not accountable to God for keeping His law 00:41:56.70\00:41:59.61 and doing things that he should. 00:41:59.62\00:42:00.90 No, this verse is quiet the opposite. 00:42:00.91\00:42:02.30 I've received the grace of God, 00:42:02.31\00:42:04.09 He pours out that grace on me, 00:42:04.10\00:42:05.34 so that I might resist and not allow myself 00:42:05.35\00:42:09.13 to be corrupted again to fall back into the old way of life. 00:42:09.14\00:42:12.64 To live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age. 00:42:12.86\00:42:16.55 And I'll tell you there has never been an age 00:42:16.56\00:42:18.79 as there is today where God's grace is so needed in that, 00:42:18.80\00:42:24.57 it is exemplified. 00:42:24.58\00:42:26.18 It is revealed in our works, in who we are, 00:42:26.19\00:42:28.66 in our character we show who God is. 00:42:28.67\00:42:31.84 We show who God is through our relationship with Him 00:42:31.85\00:42:34.41 and especially in our relationship with each other. 00:42:34.42\00:42:37.61 You know, Jesus said by this all men will know that 00:42:37.62\00:42:40.86 you're my disciples, if you have love for one another. 00:42:40.87\00:42:43.69 There should certainly be a, 00:42:44.27\00:42:45.88 obviously a vertical relationship, right, 00:42:45.89\00:42:48.88 indicate and an expression of that relationship 00:42:48.89\00:42:51.35 should be seen in our life and actions. 00:42:51.36\00:42:53.01 But there is also a horizontal relationship 00:42:53.02\00:42:55.92 between us and our fellow men. 00:42:55.93\00:42:57.82 That should also reflect that ultimate relationship 00:42:57.83\00:43:01.49 we have with Christ. 00:43:01.50\00:43:02.47 So how does grace, 00:43:02.48\00:43:04.90 if we are recipients of grace is there a way that we can, 00:43:04.91\00:43:07.30 you know, give grace to others 00:43:07.31\00:43:09.56 I guess if you want to put there some. 00:43:09.57\00:43:11.11 Yeah, absolute. You know, one of the things 00:43:11.12\00:43:12.09 that I think about, you know, you commented love. 00:43:12.10\00:43:13.42 You know, elsewhere in scripture 00:43:14.73\00:43:16.20 I'm not remembering exactly what verse it is, 00:43:16.21\00:43:18.20 but it talks about that the love of God 00:43:18.21\00:43:19.44 is poured into our hearts. 00:43:19.45\00:43:21.93 We need, we can't love, 00:43:21.94\00:43:25.02 you cannot conjure up a godly love 00:43:25.03\00:43:27.66 unconditional love for your fellow man. 00:43:27.67\00:43:29.86 No, because we're selfish by nature. 00:43:29.87\00:43:31.13 Yeah, probably the closest thing to I would say 00:43:31.14\00:43:33.03 if you wanted to conjure it up would be 00:43:33.04\00:43:34.91 when a parent has love for his child. 00:43:34.92\00:43:37.04 But that even can vain over time 00:43:37.92\00:43:39.69 because if a child becomes disobedient, disrespectful, 00:43:39.70\00:43:42.33 you can kind of loose that experience at times. 00:43:42.34\00:43:46.00 But there is always that attachment. 00:43:46.01\00:43:47.01 But God wants to pour that love into our heart 00:43:47.79\00:43:50.21 for all mankind and He does that by His grace. 00:43:50.22\00:43:53.92 So even grace is tied to our change, 00:43:53.93\00:43:57.86 the change, the love change that happens within us. 00:43:57.87\00:44:01.10 When you say Lord pour out your love into me, 00:44:01.11\00:44:03.94 because I don't have that love that you have. 00:44:03.95\00:44:05.73 You're saying by your grace give me your love. 00:44:05.74\00:44:10.40 You know, make me more loving because I don't have it. 00:44:10.41\00:44:13.68 And people like that, you know. 00:44:13.69\00:44:15.72 Nobody would deny the fact that people are attracted 00:44:15.73\00:44:19.29 to other people who are very loving and kind, yes. 00:44:19.30\00:44:22.04 And we don't see lot of that this day and age. 00:44:22.05\00:44:24.13 We see, we live in a world where people are, 00:44:24.14\00:44:27.94 I guess I use the term blood thirsty, you know. 00:44:27.95\00:44:31.06 Recently there was a huge trial 00:44:31.07\00:44:33.54 that got national attention with a young lady. 00:44:33.55\00:44:35.26 She was acquitted from the charges 00:44:35.27\00:44:38.04 she was made and people were angry. 00:44:38.05\00:44:40.88 You know, they were just upset, there was riots, 00:44:40.89\00:44:43.45 there was picketing injustice. 00:44:43.46\00:44:44.93 First thing for justice, but if that were their own child 00:44:44.94\00:44:48.56 they wouldn't want justice, would they. 00:44:48.57\00:44:50.41 You know, so we need to see grace and mercy. 00:44:50.42\00:44:54.76 Which is why we entrust in Lord and say vengeance is mine ..., 00:44:54.77\00:44:57.55 exactly, I will repay says the Lord. 00:44:57.56\00:45:00.07 You know, here's another text along the lines of grace, 00:45:00.08\00:45:02.27 purifying us and creating good works. 00:45:02.28\00:45:06.76 Second Corinthians 9 verse 8 00:45:06.77\00:45:09.58 says, "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you." 00:45:09.59\00:45:15.20 Notice that, not just a single event 00:45:15.21\00:45:17.96 but all grace abound toward you 00:45:17.97\00:45:20.72 that you always having all sufficiency in all things 00:45:20.73\00:45:26.45 may have an abundance for every good work. 00:45:26.46\00:45:29.23 So the grace will abound towards us from God 00:45:29.24\00:45:32.79 that we've sufficiency and in abundance 00:45:32.80\00:45:35.81 to create or to generate good works in us. 00:45:35.82\00:45:38.49 So that's the case. 00:45:38.50\00:45:39.92 If His grace creates good works through in us, 00:45:39.93\00:45:42.30 who is doing the good works? 00:45:42.31\00:45:43.98 God of course is doing the good work. 00:45:43.99\00:45:45.53 So when someone says to you, Kevin, 00:45:45.54\00:45:48.14 well, you and the Sabbath thing, 00:45:48.15\00:45:51.59 that's just legalism, you know, 00:45:51.60\00:45:54.21 having to rest on the Sabbath, 00:45:54.22\00:45:56.43 saying that's how the day not working, 00:45:56.44\00:45:58.14 you know, that's just legalism. 00:45:58.15\00:46:01.20 Your response then could be, no it's God's grace, 00:46:01.21\00:46:04.85 being poured out upon me generating the desire 00:46:04.86\00:46:08.58 within my heart to love Him, 00:46:08.59\00:46:10.51 to please Him and to obey Him. 00:46:10.52\00:46:12.95 Sure. And these are one of the works 00:46:12.96\00:46:14.66 that's I do to obey Him. 00:46:14.67\00:46:15.96 It's as I chose not to murder, 00:46:15.97\00:46:19.51 I chose not to steal, I chose not to lie. 00:46:19.52\00:46:22.33 Those are commandments. 00:46:22.34\00:46:23.50 I chose not to break the seventh day Sabbath. 00:46:23.51\00:46:26.16 Which is why David said, 00:46:26.17\00:46:27.24 "Great peace have they which love thy law." 00:46:27.25\00:46:30.11 Who doesn't want peace. that's right. 00:46:30.12\00:46:31.91 You know, it's a beautiful thing. 00:46:31.92\00:46:33.70 Amen. But people see it as, 00:46:33.71\00:46:35.26 you're right people see it as legalism. Right. 00:46:35.27\00:46:37.16 amidst of rules, you know, 00:46:37.17\00:46:38.78 but no, this is an enjoyment. 00:46:38.79\00:46:40.45 This is the grace of God living through them 00:46:40.46\00:46:42.29 that generates these good works 00:46:42.30\00:46:43.92 and when you call them legalism 00:46:43.93\00:46:45.11 what do you doing in fact. Right. 00:46:45.12\00:46:46.69 You're calling God working through somebody a legalist. 00:46:46.70\00:46:50.40 I mean, you're taking God not this person in that. 00:46:50.41\00:46:53.67 We have to be careful of that as well 00:46:53.68\00:46:55.38 because we don't know the motives of the heart. 00:46:55.39\00:46:58.57 All right, you know, there is something 00:46:58.58\00:47:00.74 that also I wanted to kind of conclude our topic 00:47:00.75\00:47:04.25 with today that is closely tied to grace. 00:47:04.26\00:47:08.55 That is so necessary and important 00:47:08.56\00:47:09.92 for us to understand. And that is the difference 00:47:09.93\00:47:12.21 between the two things that the spirit brings to us. 00:47:12.22\00:47:16.32 The two things given to the Church 00:47:16.33\00:47:18.43 that directly come as a result of the spirit's working. 00:47:18.44\00:47:22.40 Because anything the spirit does 00:47:22.41\00:47:24.24 is because of God's grace. 00:47:24.25\00:47:25.64 Because the spirit coming to us to do something for us 00:47:25.65\00:47:29.78 that we don't deserve is God's grace. 00:47:29.79\00:47:32.06 It is that simple to understand. 00:47:32.07\00:47:35.58 The Spirit of God brings two things. 00:47:35.59\00:47:37.20 Number one He brings fruit. 00:47:37.21\00:47:40.71 The fruit of the spirit are found there 00:47:40.72\00:47:42.25 in Galatians 5:22 and 23 and you see that fruit 00:47:42.26\00:47:45.50 involves in inward change. Inward change of our life 00:47:45.51\00:47:48.40 the way we think, the way we act, 00:47:48.41\00:47:50.62 those are the things that the spirit 00:47:50.63\00:47:53.72 then does within us by God's grace. 00:47:53.73\00:47:56.49 But there is something else. 00:47:56.50\00:47:57.91 There are gifts of the spirit. 00:47:57.92\00:48:00.48 And those gifts are given for the identification 00:48:00.49\00:48:02.47 of the Church, for the moving of the Church 00:48:02.48\00:48:04.56 forward in its work of ministry 00:48:04.57\00:48:06.96 and that is also by God's grace 00:48:06.97\00:48:09.71 and by the work of the Holy Spirit. 00:48:09.72\00:48:12.00 So in many respects, in these two things 00:48:12.01\00:48:14.80 no matter which one they are, 00:48:14.81\00:48:16.14 the Holy Spirit is the vehicle 00:48:16.15\00:48:18.40 by which God's grace is bestowed. 00:48:18.41\00:48:22.20 So we pray that God would pull out His grace upon us, 00:48:22.21\00:48:24.68 but what we really praying is that 00:48:24.69\00:48:25.92 the Holy Spirit would work. 00:48:25.93\00:48:27.92 True. Work through us. 00:48:27.93\00:48:29.47 Work through us. So He is... 00:48:29.48\00:48:31.43 in fact, the first thing, I mentioned fruit first 00:48:31.44\00:48:33.34 because that's the most important. 00:48:33.35\00:48:34.56 He changes us from within so He works in us first 00:48:34.57\00:48:38.72 and then He imparts gifts to us as He changes us 00:48:38.73\00:48:43.45 so that He might work through us. 00:48:43.46\00:48:45.50 Exactly. These two things 00:48:45.51\00:48:49.18 should not be confused or merged together. 00:48:49.19\00:48:51.66 And here's where I want kind of admonish 00:48:51.67\00:48:53.79 the church out there. If someone is saying 00:48:53.80\00:48:57.16 and I've had this happened before as a pastor, 00:48:57.17\00:48:58.91 well, you know pastor, I witness because 00:48:58.92\00:49:02.18 I just am Christ like. And God changes me 00:49:02.19\00:49:06.98 from within and people see that and they say, 00:49:06.99\00:49:08.85 you know, you're a different person. 00:49:08.86\00:49:10.46 And I say praise the Lord. 00:49:10.47\00:49:11.52 You know, first step encourage them. 00:49:11.53\00:49:13.98 God does change us that is the witness. 00:49:13.99\00:49:17.29 But God has also given us a voice, 00:49:17.30\00:49:20.19 He has given us hands and feet, 00:49:20.20\00:49:22.65 He has given us things that we can use, 00:49:22.66\00:49:26.36 our bodies that we can be used by Him to bestow 00:49:26.37\00:49:29.75 blessing upon others. Right. 00:49:29.76\00:49:31.66 And that is in the form of gifts. 00:49:31.67\00:49:34.50 So He changes us, gives us fruit 00:49:34.51\00:49:37.05 and He bestows gifts upon the Church, 00:49:37.06\00:49:38.99 upon us as individuals. We all have at least one 00:49:39.00\00:49:42.04 that God will ask us to use for Him 00:49:42.05\00:49:44.49 for the work of ministry, for the reaching of the world 00:49:44.50\00:49:48.54 with everlasting Gospel. 00:49:48.55\00:49:49.91 And that is not just preaching with our mouth, 00:49:49.92\00:49:52.98 there is a gift of preaching, there is a gift of pastoring. 00:49:52.99\00:49:55.42 There is a gift of teaching. 00:49:55.43\00:49:56.49 But it also involves the gift of hospitality, 00:49:56.50\00:49:59.45 the gift of helping others, the gift of giving, 00:49:59.46\00:50:02.32 the gift of encouraging words. 00:50:02.33\00:50:04.43 All these gifts are part of God's grace manifested to us 00:50:04.44\00:50:08.59 through the work of that Holy Spirit. 00:50:08.60\00:50:10.52 And you may be going to that verse right 00:50:10.53\00:50:12.37 because it's almost kind of what you're saying 00:50:12.38\00:50:14.78 Romans 12 verses 6-10 says, 00:50:14.79\00:50:18.05 "having then gifts differing according to the grace 00:50:18.06\00:50:22.01 that is given to us, let us use them, right. 00:50:22.02\00:50:25.74 And into the prophecy, let us prophecy proportion 00:50:25.75\00:50:28.06 to our faith, ministry let us minister." 00:50:28.07\00:50:30.18 We have seen there is stuff more then this 00:50:30.19\00:50:31.87 and, of course, you find that in verse 8. 00:50:31.88\00:50:33.39 "He who exhorts, in his exhortation; 00:50:33.40\00:50:34.73 he who gives, with liberality; 00:50:34.74\00:50:37.00 he who leads, with diligence; 00:50:37.01\00:50:38.18 he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness." 00:50:38.19\00:50:40.32 And then verse 9, 00:50:40.33\00:50:41.30 "let love be without hypocrisy. 00:50:41.31\00:50:42.56 Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good." 00:50:42.57\00:50:44.95 Then I go to verse 10, sorry, 00:50:44.96\00:50:46.84 "be kindly affectionate to one to another." 00:50:46.85\00:50:49.05 this is all in the same context of the gift, 00:50:49.06\00:50:50.91 the gift of grace, affectionate to one another 00:50:50.92\00:50:53.79 with brotherly love and honor giving preference 00:50:53.80\00:50:57.44 to one another. You know... 00:50:57.45\00:51:00.06 Which verse, tell me which verse you are at? 00:51:00.07\00:51:01.69 Oh, I'm sorry verse 10. Romans 12 verse 10. 00:51:01.70\00:51:04.36 Okay. I just wrapped it up. 00:51:04.37\00:51:05.65 "Be kindly affectionate to one to another." 00:51:05.66\00:51:08.09 Grace empowers us like you said should create 00:51:08.10\00:51:11.15 a change with in us. And then you've got 00:51:11.16\00:51:13.58 the grace that has given to us different gifts 00:51:13.59\00:51:16.82 but we're to use those gifts like you're talking 00:51:16.83\00:51:19.08 about for the up building of the body of Christ 00:51:19.09\00:51:21.15 which is the Church. Amen. 00:51:21.16\00:51:23.19 More simply put a relationship 00:51:23.20\00:51:24.64 with one another, you know. 00:51:24.65\00:51:26.99 The verse you had is not actually in the thing here. 00:51:27.00\00:51:29.63 It was not okay. I'm gonna add it 00:51:29.64\00:51:31.04 so that's a really good one. Yeah, sure. 00:51:31.05\00:51:32.43 But thinking about grace, you know, having the gifts. 00:51:32.44\00:51:34.74 Talking about having the gifts given to people 00:51:34.75\00:51:36.74 according to the grace given to you. 00:51:36.75\00:51:39.71 Well, clearly the connection of grace 00:51:39.72\00:51:41.70 there to gifts and everything we do as ministers 00:51:41.71\00:51:43.90 for Christ is part of the experience 00:51:43.91\00:51:46.90 we have in our walk with Him. 00:51:46.91\00:51:49.08 Again back to that, walks He prepared be, 00:51:49.09\00:51:51.52 works He prepared be for Him 00:51:51.53\00:51:52.82 that we should walk in them. 00:51:52.83\00:51:54.01 Exactly. So it's not by grace that we've been saved, 00:51:54.02\00:51:56.89 past tense saved once and for all but save in, you know. 00:51:56.90\00:52:01.86 Amen. You know, these things are so, 00:52:03.51\00:52:07.11 they all tied together, don't they? They do. 00:52:07.12\00:52:08.75 I mean grace and works and food and gifts and faith, 00:52:08.76\00:52:14.89 the activating agent for all of these things 00:52:14.90\00:52:17.01 and then knowing that this grace is beyond 00:52:17.02\00:52:19.65 just the free gift of salvation given to us. 00:52:19.66\00:52:21.95 Once you receive this and you start to read 00:52:21.96\00:52:23.60 the scriptures especially New Testament 00:52:23.61\00:52:25.33 where it talks a lot about grace, 00:52:25.34\00:52:26.93 it expands your knowledge of God 00:52:26.94\00:52:29.33 and His love for you and His plan 00:52:29.34\00:52:31.84 and His will for your life in calling you to ministry. 00:52:31.85\00:52:35.14 Sure. And this activity I speak of, 00:52:35.15\00:52:36.68 you ought to do words study on grace 00:52:36.69\00:52:38.13 you would find the concordance tons of uses of the word 00:52:38.14\00:52:42.06 Grace in the New Testament. I mean it's everywhere 00:52:42.07\00:52:44.57 Amen. And it's a beautiful thing. 00:52:44.58\00:52:46.36 It is such a critical component of our salvation 00:52:46.37\00:52:50.74 experience, you know, because it affects 00:52:50.75\00:52:53.15 everything about who we are. 00:52:53.16\00:52:54.98 I shared a sermon along these lines. 00:52:54.99\00:52:58.82 I spoke about, mentioned that recently, 00:52:58.83\00:53:00.37 it's "The Gift That Keeps On Giving" 00:53:00.38\00:53:01.91 which is great title. 00:53:01.92\00:53:02.92 "The Gift That Keeps On Giving." 00:53:02.93\00:53:03.90 Right, sure. 00:53:03.91\00:53:04.93 I preached this message and it was, 00:53:04.94\00:53:06.61 you know, before fairly large audience 00:53:06.62\00:53:09.38 and several came up to me afterwards 00:53:09.39\00:53:11.76 and these are Adventist Christians 00:53:11.77\00:53:13.64 who know their scriptures 00:53:13.65\00:53:15.06 and they said never heard it before. 00:53:15.07\00:53:18.40 Never saw it in my life, how did I miss that. 00:53:18.41\00:53:21.99 I got to go back and study Grace again. 00:53:22.00\00:53:24.20 And this wasn't just one or two. 00:53:24.21\00:53:25.44 I mean, five, six, seven, ten times I heard this. 00:53:25.45\00:53:28.61 Even from pastors. I'm gonna go back and learn. 00:53:28.62\00:53:32.12 That gives me some kind of go looking 00:53:32.13\00:53:34.01 and talk about Grace for. 00:53:34.02\00:53:35.23 We sometimes think that we need to find ways 00:53:35.24\00:53:37.38 to talk about the grace of God, 00:53:37.39\00:53:39.05 and I think we get dumbfounded 00:53:39.06\00:53:41.57 for how to expand that 00:53:41.58\00:53:43.01 because we have reduced grace to being this 00:53:43.02\00:53:46.00 one time salvation event or a merited favor. 00:53:46.01\00:53:49.76 When there is so much more in there about grace 00:53:49.77\00:53:52.38 and I hope and pray that our listeners 00:53:52.39\00:53:55.41 and our viewers today are being impacted 00:53:55.42\00:53:56.89 by that because it impacted my life. 00:53:56.90\00:53:58.87 It changed my life once I saw this in the Word of God, 00:53:58.88\00:54:02.56 it just means so much more to me now 00:54:02.57\00:54:04.15 God's grace than when I've heard it before. 00:54:04.16\00:54:07.00 Yeah, beautiful and really is. 00:54:07.01\00:54:09.09 You know, one thing I like to end on just maybe really quick 00:54:09.10\00:54:11.79 because we talked about it a couple of times 00:54:11.80\00:54:14.37 before this thing about, once saved always saved. 00:54:14.38\00:54:17.02 You know, the grace of God saved me, 00:54:17.03\00:54:19.24 and it's one of the times that, 00:54:19.25\00:54:20.75 one of the things I struggled with this term God saved. 00:54:20.76\00:54:24.34 You know, God saved, it's almost like got milk, right. 00:54:24.35\00:54:27.53 You know, it becomes trivial. 00:54:27.54\00:54:29.91 Well people throw that around there a lot 00:54:29.92\00:54:31.74 and to me I say I've been saved or I've got saved, 00:54:31.75\00:54:36.70 I got saved, but I'm being saved everyday by God's grace. 00:54:36.71\00:54:41.33 It's an ongoing salvation experience. 00:54:41.34\00:54:44.05 I've always been little bit worry about that, that seemed... 00:54:44.06\00:54:45.62 Yeah. I would say I met Christ at this time, 00:54:45.63\00:54:49.22 or I was saved. Yeah, yeah. 00:54:49.23\00:54:52.38 But I bring this out because this doctrine is out there. 00:54:52.39\00:54:55.02 You know, "once saved always saved." 00:54:55.03\00:54:56.62 I refer to it is the doctrine of insecurity. 00:54:56.63\00:55:00.80 And I refer it to insecurity using insecurity 00:55:00.81\00:55:03.40 because it usually raises an eyebrow 00:55:03.41\00:55:04.94 because people believe that this doctrine helps 00:55:04.95\00:55:07.24 to give them security. 00:55:07.25\00:55:09.17 And the question is always asked and I ask this of some, 00:55:09.18\00:55:14.81 so you're saying that a person is being saved 00:55:14.82\00:55:16.74 and goes back to the old lifestyle of murdering 00:55:16.75\00:55:18.78 and drinking and smoking and all the stuff, so they're saved. 00:55:18.79\00:55:21.80 Well no, and the answer always is, 00:55:21.81\00:55:25.00 they were never really saved in the first one. 00:55:25.01\00:55:27.96 You know, they didn't really get the gift of salvation. 00:55:27.97\00:55:30.93 My question right there is then how do you know yourself? 00:55:30.94\00:55:34.42 Did you say the right words? 00:55:34.43\00:55:35.81 Did you had the right experience? 00:55:35.82\00:55:38.30 And if you start to get into those things 00:55:38.31\00:55:39.86 or you thinking in your mind maybe I'm, 00:55:39.87\00:55:41.61 you know, maybe I'm not saved. 00:55:41.62\00:55:43.14 You see, I know I'm saved biblically 00:55:43.15\00:55:46.28 because I'm walking in the newness of life with Christ. 00:55:46.29\00:55:49.42 Exactly. If I fall away from Christ 00:55:49.43\00:55:51.63 and I get into the life of sin again 00:55:51.64\00:55:53.70 I know I need to repent and comeback to Christ 00:55:53.71\00:55:55.76 and He will save me. 00:55:55.77\00:55:56.78 But I'm not constantly thinking 00:55:56.79\00:55:58.63 am I in or out right now. 00:55:58.64\00:55:59.81 Did I receive the saving grace of God 00:55:59.82\00:56:02.35 when I asked to be saved or did I not? 00:56:02.36\00:56:04.13 Right. And now you'll understand 00:56:04.14\00:56:05.23 why it is the doctrine of insecurity... of insecurity, 00:56:05.24\00:56:07.26 true nothing secure about that at all. 00:56:07.27\00:56:08.58 Right, did I do it right, you know, and there is people 00:56:08.59\00:56:10.51 running around thinking well my life doesn't show 00:56:10.52\00:56:12.84 that I've been saved but, 00:56:12.85\00:56:13.86 you know, they tell me I got saved. 00:56:13.87\00:56:15.22 Right, how do you know? 00:56:15.23\00:56:16.20 What's the marker, you know. 00:56:16.21\00:56:18.33 And it's this moving target and it is so, 00:56:18.34\00:56:21.77 it breeds insecurity. 00:56:21.78\00:56:23.44 And so I just want to encourage our friends out there that, 00:56:23.45\00:56:27.20 that doctrine not only it is not a biblical doctrine 00:56:27.21\00:56:30.50 but it does exactly the opposite of what they say it will do. 00:56:30.51\00:56:33.76 It breeds insecurity... 00:56:33.77\00:56:35.55 Which really breads further rebellion if you think about it. 00:56:35.56\00:56:38.51 Because if you're not secure about 00:56:38.52\00:56:39.96 how the Lord feels about you, 00:56:39.97\00:56:41.08 if you're not secure in your salvation experience 00:56:41.09\00:56:42.83 with Him it is discouraging. 00:56:42.84\00:56:45.50 And the more you get discouraged the more you give up. 00:56:45.51\00:56:47.54 The more you give up, the more you get into, 00:56:47.55\00:56:49.21 you know, you really been in deeper ways. 00:56:49.22\00:56:51.42 So... And where is worthless rags, 00:56:51.43\00:56:53.80 I mean our lives are as worthless rags 00:56:53.81\00:56:55.64 but we're not worthless to Christ. 00:56:55.65\00:56:59.44 He paid the ultimate price for us. 00:56:59.45\00:57:01.46 And friends He paid the ultimate price for you 00:57:01.47\00:57:04.49 and He offers you the gift of His grace through faith, 00:57:04.50\00:57:08.97 salvation from your sins and then offers, 00:57:08.98\00:57:12.31 makes that offer continuingly through His grace, 00:57:12.32\00:57:15.17 through His Holy Spirit imported to you to give you power 00:57:15.18\00:57:17.99 and strength to live the life that Christ is giving you 00:57:18.00\00:57:22.58 from this day forward to walk in the newness of life 00:57:22.59\00:57:25.15 and harmony with His way and His precepts. 00:57:25.16\00:57:28.02 We want to encourage you in that walk today asking you 00:57:28.03\00:57:31.01 for the grace of Christ in your life. 00:57:31.02\00:57:33.29 God bless you. 00:57:33.30\00:57:34.81
