Those lambs. 00:03:25.82\00:03:27.16 All those sacrifices represented the coming messiah. 00:03:27.17\00:03:30.95 And so their faith was in Christ in that sense. 00:03:30.96\00:03:33.87 Once a year, it was called the Day of Atonement 00:03:33.88\00:03:36.33 and this was a particular, this was a high, 00:03:36.34\00:03:38.59 high day for the priestly services, 00:03:38.60\00:03:40.65 because it was on that day once a year 00:03:40.66\00:03:42.80 that the high priest would go 00:03:42.81\00:03:44.92 into what was called the Most Holiest. 00:03:44.93\00:03:48.42 And in the Most Holiest is where all, 00:03:48.43\00:03:51.26 in the Hebrew mind set, 00:03:51.27\00:03:52.81 sins didn't just disappear, you know. 00:03:52.82\00:03:56.32 But rather that sanctuary was a holy place and so, 00:03:56.33\00:03:59.55 the idea was that these sins though forgiven by faith 00:03:59.56\00:04:03.37 and the sacrifices still had to go somewhere and it just... 00:04:03.38\00:04:07.41 Accumulated there. 00:04:07.42\00:04:08.39 They accumulated, right exactly, 00:04:08.40\00:04:09.72 you know, it's like dusting your house, 00:04:09.73\00:04:11.39 you know, spring cleaning. 00:04:11.40\00:04:12.63 All the stuff accumulates. 00:04:12.64\00:04:13.90 You don't necessarily see it, right, 00:04:13.91\00:04:15.38 you know, because you clean all throughout the year. 00:04:15.39\00:04:16.88 But in the spring time a lot of us, 00:04:16.89\00:04:18.32 you know, require the dusters, 00:04:18.33\00:04:19.30 we get the stuff we can see. 00:04:19.31\00:04:20.83 And I guess it's a vague illustration, 00:04:20.84\00:04:22.90 that's kind of what happens. 00:04:22.91\00:04:23.88 Since accumulate in the sanctuary 00:04:23.89\00:04:25.42 and they have to be dealt with. 00:04:25.43\00:04:26.65 And so once a year, the high priest would go 00:04:26.66\00:04:29.16 into the Most Holiest and would take that blood 00:04:29.17\00:04:33.60 and it would be sprinkled on the mercy seat. 00:04:33.61\00:04:37.06 And that would symbolize the sacrifice of Christ. 00:04:37.07\00:04:43.33 You know, the full sacrifice, but then from there, 00:04:43.34\00:04:45.61 that blood we have to be transferred to something. 00:04:45.62\00:04:48.00 Of course that's when an scapegoat came into, 00:04:48.01\00:04:49.60 came into being. 00:04:49.61\00:04:50.86 But in the Most Holy Place we know now that 00:04:50.87\00:04:55.72 the earthly sanctuary was really just a representation 00:04:55.73\00:05:01.52 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:05:01.53\00:05:02.66 Right, it was just a patterning. 00:05:02.67\00:05:04.01 It was a pattern, right. 00:05:04.02\00:05:05.44 In fact, when God gave Moses the directions 00:05:05.45\00:05:07.99 on how to built it, what to do. 00:05:08.00\00:05:09.95 It expressly says, after these things make 00:05:09.96\00:05:13.15 after the pattern of the true. 00:05:13.16\00:05:14.91 You know, so they were made 00:05:14.92\00:05:16.13 after the blue print of real sanctuary in heaven. 00:05:16.14\00:05:19.78 So and to answer the question, 00:05:19.79\00:05:20.96 we know that Christ now is in the Most Holy Place. 00:05:20.97\00:05:24.46 We believe as Adventists, that in 1844, 00:05:24.47\00:05:26.93 he went from the Holy Place 00:05:26.94\00:05:28.90 into the Most Holy Place in his priestly work. 00:05:28.91\00:05:31.84 And so I would like to answer the question basically 00:05:31.85\00:05:33.32 by going to Hebrews chapter 8 real quick. 00:05:33.33\00:05:38.64 And Paul is kind of summing up 00:05:38.65\00:05:40.93 all that he has been talking about. 00:05:40.94\00:05:42.61 He says now, this is the main point 00:05:42.62\00:05:44.46 of the things we are saying. 00:05:44.47\00:05:45.59 We have such a high priest who is seated at the right hand 00:05:45.60\00:05:49.15 of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 00:05:49.16\00:05:51.44 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle 00:05:51.45\00:05:54.65 which the Lord erected, and not man. 00:05:54.66\00:05:57.83 And so, when the question is asked, 00:05:57.84\00:06:00.96 what is the need to follow Christ 00:06:00.97\00:06:02.72 into the Most Holy Place. 00:06:02.73\00:06:05.19 It really is an experiential answer, 00:06:05.20\00:06:07.85 rather the answer is in our experience. 00:06:07.86\00:06:10.24 If we believe that Jesus is in the Most Holy Place right now, 00:06:10.25\00:06:14.85 then in essence He is cleansing the sanctuary 00:06:14.86\00:06:17.18 as the high priest did in the days of old. 00:06:17.19\00:06:19.85 That cleansing in the sanctuary 00:06:19.86\00:06:21.12 is the cleansing of sin, you know. 00:06:21.13\00:06:23.85 And we are, His earthly tabernacle Christ lives in us. 00:06:23.86\00:06:27.52 So if Christ is cleansing the heavenly sanctuary, 00:06:27.53\00:06:29.86 then ultimately He's cleansing His people here on earth. 00:06:29.87\00:06:32.16 So for living in that, if you want to use the term 00:06:32.17\00:06:34.45 antitypical Day of Atonement since 1844. 00:06:34.46\00:06:38.16 I believe our focus as God's people should be 00:06:38.17\00:06:40.89 in purging sin out of our lives. Right. 00:06:40.90\00:06:42.86 Because we do have a high priest, 00:06:42.87\00:06:44.99 you know, and as our high priest, 00:06:45.00\00:06:47.33 the Bible says, who can't sympathize with our weaknesses, 00:06:47.34\00:06:50.75 he doesn't just sympathize. Right. 00:06:50.76\00:06:52.33 You know, Christ doesn't just say 00:06:52.34\00:06:53.32 I understand what you're going through 00:06:53.33\00:06:54.30 'cause I was tempted in all points. 00:06:54.31\00:06:55.33 He's been there. 00:06:55.34\00:06:56.31 But yet without sin. 00:06:56.32\00:06:58.25 So Christ overcame and He wants to overcome sin in our lives. 00:06:58.26\00:07:01.02 He wants to purge his people and prepare His people. 00:07:01.03\00:07:03.80 So I think that's what it really means to follow Christ 00:07:03.81\00:07:05.43 into the Most Holy Place. 00:07:05.44\00:07:06.67 Follow Him in experience, you know, be there 00:07:06.68\00:07:09.90 and have Him and we are not talking about this, 00:07:09.91\00:07:12.92 we're not talking about some kind of spiritualism, 00:07:12.93\00:07:15.32 you know, where we mediate 00:07:15.33\00:07:16.81 and we're with Christ literally. 00:07:16.82\00:07:18.74 It's an awareness. 00:07:18.75\00:07:19.74 It's an awareness, it's an awareness 00:07:19.75\00:07:21.15 of what He is doing and He is doing for His people. 00:07:21.16\00:07:23.08 He is cleansing His people, 00:07:23.09\00:07:24.55 you know, preparing His people. 00:07:24.56\00:07:25.83 You know, one of the other things that I found, 00:07:25.84\00:07:27.88 that ties right in with that is, 00:07:27.89\00:07:29.95 is our experience by faith is our trust in Christ 00:07:29.96\00:07:34.77 and what He has done for us. 00:07:34.78\00:07:35.90 And we know that the book of Hebrews clearly reveals 00:07:35.91\00:07:38.70 that Jesus is our high priest. 00:07:38.71\00:07:40.72 And the main work of the high priest was it culminated 00:07:40.73\00:07:44.10 with the Day of Atonement. Right. 00:07:44.11\00:07:45.56 The point to his ministry of cleansing the sanctuary 00:07:45.57\00:07:48.17 in the Day of Atonement, if you want to see 00:07:48.18\00:07:49.46 what the high priest did 00:07:49.47\00:07:50.81 in the typical pattern of this tabernacle 00:07:50.82\00:07:54.89 in the wilderness and through 00:07:54.90\00:07:56.38 the temples of all with the Israelites. 00:07:56.39\00:07:58.58 You can go to Leviticus chapter 16 00:07:58.59\00:08:00.44 that will reveal there what the high priest 00:08:00.45\00:08:02.55 actually did on the Day of Atonement, 00:08:02.56\00:08:04.83 but that's a picture of what Christ is doing 00:08:04.84\00:08:06.90 in the heavenly sanctuary up in heaven right now. 00:08:06.91\00:08:11.17 And so Kevin, as you're talking about, 00:08:11.18\00:08:14.00 you know, His ministry there and what He's doing, 00:08:14.01\00:08:16.16 it's transitioned of sorts, 00:08:16.17\00:08:17.81 you know, it's no longer a simple... 00:08:17.82\00:08:21.43 Now I won't say simple but I mean, 00:08:21.44\00:08:22.93 it's no longer a continual day by day just forgiving of sins. 00:08:22.94\00:08:27.43 There is an eradicating, an illuminating, 00:08:27.44\00:08:29.54 and putting away of sin from the heavenly sanctuary 00:08:29.55\00:08:35.12 by the blood of Christ and we know these 00:08:35.13\00:08:37.82 two phase ministry exists in the heavenly sanctuary 00:08:37.83\00:08:40.36 because it existed in the pattern of it, 00:08:40.37\00:08:42.68 given on the mountain to Moses in the earthly... 00:08:42.69\00:08:45.36 And it's good news for us, you know, 00:08:45.37\00:08:46.52 because we don't wanna be going through 00:08:46.53\00:08:48.30 this continual round of, you know, sin and repentance, 00:08:48.31\00:08:50.86 sin and repentance, the same world. Right. 00:08:50.87\00:08:52.19 You know, nobody wants that. 00:08:52.20\00:08:53.33 There is no joy in that, you know, eventually 00:08:53.34\00:08:55.53 you feel that guilt builds up, you know. 00:08:55.54\00:08:58.16 And it's really, it's a promise, 00:08:58.17\00:08:59.35 you know, it's a promise to know that Christ is cleansing 00:08:59.36\00:09:02.41 and can cleanse sin from our own lives. 00:09:02.42\00:09:05.01 The other part of this too is that Daniel chapter 8 00:09:05.02\00:09:09.23 which is where we arrive at the date of 1844. 00:09:09.24\00:09:12.05 If you look at the 2300 year of prophecy, 00:09:12.06\00:09:15.02 you will find that it begins in 457 with the decree 00:09:15.03\00:09:18.16 to restore and rebuilt Jerusalem, 00:09:18.17\00:09:20.07 including its walls to get it totally done, up until 1844. 00:09:20.08\00:09:25.02 You don't count your zero but it ends in 1844 00:09:25.03\00:09:27.80 which is when it's says the sanctuary will be cleansed 00:09:27.81\00:09:31.61 and the mistakes that the Millerites made, 00:09:31.62\00:09:34.29 where that they thought the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:09:34.30\00:09:36.32 was the cleansing of the earth by fire. 00:09:36.33\00:09:38.09 Of Christ coming back, but in fact it wasn't. 00:09:38.10\00:09:40.81 After that those who continue to study the scriptures 00:09:40.82\00:09:43.82 saw through the cleansing services 00:09:43.83\00:09:45.59 of the Day of Atonement. 00:09:45.60\00:09:46.92 That instead of coming to the earth that Christ actually 00:09:46.93\00:09:49.25 transitioned from Holy Place in the heavenly sanctuary 00:09:49.26\00:09:52.01 to the Most Holy Place and began His work of cleansing 00:09:52.02\00:09:56.22 or in fact, judgment, so to speak. 00:09:56.23\00:09:59.71 And just a quick side note, you used the term Millerites, 00:09:59.72\00:10:02.27 it's nice to point this out sometimes, 00:10:02.28\00:10:04.30 because people says oh, you guy, 00:10:04.31\00:10:05.37 you know, we have, it's common these days 00:10:05.38\00:10:07.19 to hear people setting dates. Right. 00:10:07.20\00:10:08.77 You know, in fact, just not too long ago, 00:10:08.78\00:10:10.71 a couple of months ago, a very well known speaker 00:10:10.72\00:10:12.89 in California was once again setting another date 00:10:12.90\00:10:15.13 and everybody was following him. 00:10:15.14\00:10:16.90 And so as a rebuttal, we're talking about that 00:10:16.91\00:10:19.28 but people say oh, you guys been setting dates too, 00:10:19.29\00:10:21.13 you guys set the date back in 1844, 00:10:21.14\00:10:23.00 but the fact is that they were Millerites. Right. 00:10:23.01\00:10:25.99 In fact that we were not. 00:10:26.00\00:10:26.97 There was not Adventists who set the date of 1844. 00:10:26.98\00:10:30.29 These are Millerites, follower of William Miller. 00:10:30.30\00:10:32.11 That's right. 00:10:32.12\00:10:33.26 And so this was done before the Adventist church 00:10:33.27\00:10:35.11 had ever actually become an entity, you know... 00:10:35.12\00:10:37.38 Yeah. They organized and formed in 1863. 00:10:37.39\00:10:40.19 Exactly. So you're aware of that. 00:10:40.20\00:10:41.87 And the prophecies and properly understood 00:10:41.88\00:10:45.80 are with a driving force really, 00:10:45.81\00:10:47.67 as we did begin to study and gather together as a church, 00:10:47.68\00:10:50.94 which is why much of our message today is prophetic. 00:10:50.95\00:10:54.12 And so praise the Lord for that. 00:10:54.13\00:10:55.47 But I would like to claim... 00:10:55.48\00:10:56.93 I just want to share one more text here, 00:10:56.94\00:10:58.22 it's actually just toward the, 00:10:58.23\00:10:59.29 it's actually just jumping over to chapter 9 here. 00:10:59.30\00:11:02.56 And it's on that same thing, but Christ came as high priest, 00:11:02.57\00:11:04.94 starting in verse 11. 00:11:04.95\00:11:06.46 Chapter 9 verse 11 of Hebrews. 00:11:06.47\00:11:08.68 Christ came as high priest of the good things to come 00:11:08.69\00:11:10.69 with the greater and more perfect tabernacle. 00:11:10.70\00:11:16.52 And not made with hands that is not of this creation. 00:11:16.53\00:11:18.79 So once again obviously there's a sanctuary in heaven. 00:11:18.80\00:11:21.12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, 00:11:21.13\00:11:23.45 but with His own blood He entered 00:11:23.46\00:11:25.54 into the Most Holy Place once for all, 00:11:25.55\00:11:27.30 having obtained eternal redemption. 00:11:27.31\00:11:28.99 Okay, now listen, this next verse. 00:11:29.00\00:11:30.58 For of the blood of bulls and of goats, 00:11:30.59\00:11:32.29 and the ashes of a heifer, 00:11:32.30\00:11:34.27 the sprinkling the unclean sanctifies 00:11:34.28\00:11:37.38 for the purifying of the flesh. 00:11:37.39\00:11:39.78 How much more shall the blood of Christ, 00:11:39.79\00:11:42.21 who through the eternal Spirit 00:11:42.22\00:11:44.93 offered himself without spot to God, 00:11:44.94\00:11:46.92 cleanse your conscience from dead works 00:11:46.93\00:11:49.17 to serve the living God. 00:11:49.18\00:11:50.99 So Christ is doing a work not an isolation 00:11:51.00\00:11:55.53 in this heavenly sanctuary. 00:11:55.54\00:11:56.84 But He is doing it with His connection here 00:11:56.85\00:11:58.71 on earth in our hearts. 00:11:58.72\00:11:59.69 In the hearts of men. Exactly. 00:11:59.70\00:12:00.67 Yeah, there is your connection right there 00:12:00.68\00:12:02.06 between our experience and what Christ is doing 00:12:02.07\00:12:05.03 as our high priest in the heavens. 00:12:05.04\00:12:06.73 The other, it involves truth, the issue of truth. 00:12:06.74\00:12:09.93 If you look at Daniel chapter 8 verse 14 00:12:09.94\00:12:13.11 is in regard to the 2300 days. 00:12:13.12\00:12:16.39 It says, then it's when the sanctuary will be 00:12:16.40\00:12:18.89 cleansed after the 2300 days, 00:12:18.90\00:12:21.16 but just prior to that if you back up our couple verses, 00:12:21.17\00:12:23.65 you will find that there is this attack 00:12:23.66\00:12:26.02 upon God's truth and it says... 00:12:26.03\00:12:28.80 That's of religious nature. 00:12:28.81\00:12:29.96 Absolutely, it says in verse 12, 00:12:29.97\00:12:32.08 because of transgression, an army was given 00:12:32.09\00:12:34.09 over to the horn to oppose the Daily sacrifices, 00:12:34.10\00:12:36.57 and he cast truth down to the ground. 00:12:36.58\00:12:39.10 He did this, all this and prospered. 00:12:39.11\00:12:41.05 So what you had, was this period of time, Kevin, 00:12:41.06\00:12:43.15 where truth was cast down to the ground. 00:12:43.16\00:12:46.61 But as the sanctuary was cleansed, 00:12:46.62\00:12:49.30 truth then came back to the forefront 00:12:49.31\00:12:52.04 no longer being cast to the ground, 00:12:52.05\00:12:54.25 but being elevated to reveal through his word 00:12:54.26\00:12:57.69 the true standard God has, and has always had 00:12:57.70\00:13:00.16 for His people and for His truth. 00:13:00.17\00:13:02.59 And so along with the transition of the Christ 00:13:02.60\00:13:05.25 from Holy to Most Holy, there is the cleansing 00:13:05.26\00:13:08.55 and purifying of the doctrine of Christ 00:13:08.56\00:13:10.78 by His truth coming forward. 00:13:10.79\00:13:12.61 So there is a renewed emphasis on the truth of the scriptures 00:13:12.62\00:13:15.75 and that's where the Protestant reformation 00:13:15.76\00:13:18.05 really kind of catapulted us into post 1844. 00:13:18.06\00:13:23.06 And it shows, you know, just the fact that 00:13:23.07\00:13:24.48 it was attacked shows the importance of, 00:13:24.49\00:13:26.09 you know, I mean, just the fact that, 00:13:26.10\00:13:27.80 that it was the focus of this demonic attack 00:13:27.81\00:13:30.35 shows the importance of this message. Right. 00:13:30.36\00:13:33.13 You know, but you can never cast God's truth 00:13:33.14\00:13:35.42 to the ground forever because it's like seed, you know. 00:13:35.43\00:13:37.23 It always going to, it's like grass, you know, 00:13:37.24\00:13:39.16 you can, anyways ever had a garden before, 00:13:39.17\00:13:41.25 you know, you tried to get rid of that grass 00:13:41.26\00:13:42.64 and of course, the grass in this case 00:13:42.65\00:13:44.87 would be a good thing, God's word. 00:13:44.88\00:13:46.13 But it's keep coming you know, because God, 00:13:46.14\00:13:48.60 God's word is living and powerful. 00:13:48.61\00:13:49.78 You can't kill it. 00:13:49.79\00:13:50.76 That's right, amen. 00:13:50.77\00:13:52.16 All right, thank you very much for that question. 00:13:52.17\00:13:54.14 Here is another question that comes from, 00:13:54.15\00:13:57.46 let's see here, Osius. 00:13:57.47\00:14:01.12 Thank you very much for sending us this question. 00:14:01.13\00:14:03.74 I will just read the last part of it here. 00:14:03.75\00:14:05.96 He talks about how he has been a retired pastor 00:14:05.97\00:14:08.12 for a while and there is a query, 00:14:08.13\00:14:10.98 there is a question that he has in regard to 00:14:10.99\00:14:14.43 the sun growing dark, the moon not, 00:14:14.44\00:14:16.76 you know, giving its light and the stars falling from heaven. 00:14:16.77\00:14:20.33 And he talks about this, he says that, 00:14:20.34\00:14:24.34 preachers have been saying that this will happen again. 00:14:24.35\00:14:27.79 And he quotes a couple individuals, 00:14:27.80\00:14:30.36 a few individuals that have said that very thing on 3ABN. 00:14:30.37\00:14:34.50 And I will say I have said that very thing 00:14:34.51\00:14:36.73 and here is why I have said that 00:14:36.74\00:14:38.70 and why all of us are saying that. 00:14:38.71\00:14:41.16 Turn first of all to Luke chapter 21, 00:14:41.17\00:14:43.87 you know, a lot of us, Kevin, will read Matthew's account. 00:14:43.88\00:14:47.36 From Matthew 24 about the sun growing dark 00:14:47.37\00:14:50.48 and the stars falling but the Luke, 00:14:50.49\00:14:54.98 Luke 21 really records more of the context 00:14:54.99\00:15:02.22 within which this happens with Christ's words. 00:15:02.23\00:15:05.89 And so I'm gonna pick it up here in verse 25 00:15:05.90\00:15:09.60 which is the same thing Luke is recording here 00:15:09.61\00:15:12.94 that Matthew recorded in Matthew 24. 00:15:12.95\00:15:15.53 So it says in verse 25, 00:15:15.54\00:15:16.98 And there will be signs in the sun, 00:15:16.99\00:15:19.23 in the moon, and in the stars, 00:15:19.24\00:15:21.42 and on the earth, and here is where the addition comes in, 00:15:21.43\00:15:24.58 distress of nations, with perplexity, 00:15:24.59\00:15:27.95 the sea and the waves roaring, 00:15:27.96\00:15:30.55 men's hearts failing them with fear, 00:15:30.56\00:15:33.08 and the expectation of those things 00:15:33.09\00:15:34.89 which are coming upon the earth, 00:15:34.90\00:15:36.42 for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 00:15:36.43\00:15:39.64 Then they will see the son of man coming in the cloud 00:15:39.65\00:15:42.30 with power and great glory. 00:15:42.31\00:15:43.72 Notice the immediacy here of the things that happen 00:15:43.73\00:15:46.78 and it's not just the sun growing dark 00:15:46.79\00:15:48.63 and the stars falling in the moon, 00:15:48.64\00:15:50.22 knew not giving it's light either 00:15:50.23\00:15:51.89 and then some places the Bible turning red, 00:15:51.90\00:15:54.29 you know, the context here is a global event 00:15:54.30\00:16:00.06 that wakes of the world's leaders to say what's going on? 00:16:00.07\00:16:05.62 What is God doing and they're in anxiety, 00:16:05.63\00:16:09.48 they have feared. 00:16:09.49\00:16:10.84 The sea and the waves roaring, 00:16:10.85\00:16:13.15 of course, now we understand what meaning that is, 00:16:13.16\00:16:15.23 we've seen Tsunamis have devastating impact, 00:16:15.24\00:16:18.21 here over the last several years. 00:16:18.22\00:16:20.13 So there seems to be at least 00:16:20.14\00:16:22.23 a contextually within Christ words, 00:16:22.24\00:16:24.22 a global impact of this, and if you look at the events prior, 00:16:24.23\00:16:28.57 you will find that these were localized events, 00:16:28.58\00:16:34.58 you know, the stars falling, the dark day in New England, 00:16:34.59\00:16:39.05 Lisbon's earthquake. 00:16:39.06\00:16:40.69 These were localized events 00:16:40.70\00:16:42.33 where this contextually is a global event. 00:16:42.34\00:16:45.53 The other thing we find too is that 00:16:45.54\00:16:48.48 when we're talking about 00:16:48.49\00:16:50.36 in the context of the 1260 years period. 00:16:50.37\00:16:54.18 It ends in 1798. 00:16:54.19\00:16:56.64 Well, two of the three events happened before that. 00:16:56.65\00:16:59.33 Right, 1755 Lisbon's earthquake. 00:16:59.34\00:17:02.05 Yeah, and if you look at the sixth seal, 00:17:02.06\00:17:04.37 you will find that, 00:17:04.38\00:17:06.14 that is a time of troubled context there. 00:17:06.15\00:17:09.86 And so it's more than just, 00:17:09.87\00:17:12.03 you know, it's almost like as Christ 00:17:12.04\00:17:15.53 often does things in type and anti-type. 00:17:15.54\00:17:17.52 We see in type what's to come 00:17:17.53\00:17:19.58 through the Lisbon earthquake, 00:17:19.59\00:17:21.00 dark day in New England 1780, 00:17:21.01\00:17:23.01 you know, stars falling, meteor shower in 1833. 00:17:23.02\00:17:26.45 It was a type of what is to come 00:17:26.46\00:17:28.15 globally at the end of time. 00:17:28.16\00:17:30.17 And I want to share, just another aspect of these too. 00:17:30.18\00:17:33.40 Within the Old Testament you will find the prophets there. 00:17:33.41\00:17:36.83 Many of the prophecies given about the day of the Lord. 00:17:36.84\00:17:41.53 The day of the Lord is a prophecy that 00:17:41.54\00:17:44.36 I can't find fits anywhere except 00:17:44.37\00:17:47.80 after the close of probation. Right. 00:17:47.81\00:17:49.91 You will find an hour of judgment 00:17:49.92\00:17:52.24 coming prior to the close, but the day of the Lord 00:17:52.25\00:17:54.95 is the day of vengeance, a day of wrath. 00:17:54.96\00:17:56.86 Those had been an eschatological. 00:17:56.87\00:17:58.38 Yeah, those probation closed, its wrath is poured out. 00:17:58.39\00:18:01.71 And in that context we find the sun will grow dark. 00:18:01.72\00:18:05.97 And so you will find even contextually 00:18:05.98\00:18:08.80 Old Testament prophets pointing 00:18:08.81\00:18:10.34 to this happening at the end of time. 00:18:10.35\00:18:12.11 Joel probably the most prominent because he says, 00:18:12.12\00:18:15.05 that the Holy Spirit will be poured out in latter rain power 00:18:15.06\00:18:18.19 and then he refers right there to the sun growing dark, 00:18:18.20\00:18:20.77 moon not giving its light, so. 00:18:20.78\00:18:22.41 Contextually this is where we get it from. 00:18:22.42\00:18:24.23 I know historically as Adventists, 00:18:24.24\00:18:26.35 especially the pioneers, 00:18:26.36\00:18:27.76 they saw the eminent return of Christ. 00:18:27.77\00:18:29.35 I mean, they believed He was coming in their lifetime 00:18:29.36\00:18:31.76 and so they thought, 00:18:31.77\00:18:32.77 they saw these things has been fulfilled, 00:18:32.78\00:18:34.36 they had been fulfilled. 00:18:34.37\00:18:35.40 And they were, but we see now 00:18:35.41\00:18:38.60 more in type then in final anti-type. 00:18:38.61\00:18:41.77 So anyway just to throw a few things out there 00:18:41.78\00:18:43.76 for your consideration because these are some 00:18:43.77\00:18:46.31 of the basis for which that second application comes from. 00:18:46.32\00:18:51.29 You have another question for us? 00:18:51.30\00:18:52.58 I actually do, yes. 00:18:52.59\00:18:54.17 And it's a question regarding, actually kind of, 00:18:54.18\00:18:56.53 probably a common question for many. 00:18:56.54\00:18:58.98 In Genesis chapter 9, we find the story of Ham 00:18:58.99\00:19:03.28 seeing Noah his father naked, 00:19:03.29\00:19:05.49 and I'd like to turn it real quick. 00:19:05.50\00:19:07.45 Because many people have asked, 00:19:07.46\00:19:09.84 wasn't this kind of severe the judgment pronounce 00:19:09.85\00:19:12.19 upon him for seeing his father naked? 00:19:12.20\00:19:14.72 Let's turn to Genesis chapter 9 real quick. 00:19:14.73\00:19:18.83 And the Bible doesn't really give a lot to work 00:19:18.84\00:19:22.91 with it for us understanding why, you know, 00:19:22.92\00:19:25.21 why Noah pronounced such a strong curse upon him. 00:19:25.22\00:19:28.37 It starts here in verse 18, this is just after the flood. 00:19:28.38\00:19:33.30 it says, Now the sons of Noah 00:19:33.31\00:19:34.75 who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 00:19:34.76\00:19:37.31 And Ham was the father of Canaan. 00:19:37.32\00:19:39.29 These three were the sons of Noah, 00:19:39.30\00:19:40.69 and from these the whole earth was populated. 00:19:40.70\00:19:44.74 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. 00:19:44.75\00:19:47.55 Then he drank wine and was drunk, 00:19:47.56\00:19:49.12 and became uncovered in his tent. Okay. 00:19:49.13\00:19:51.59 So there's two, there's two things going on, 00:19:51.60\00:19:53.62 you know, that the issue of Noah. 00:19:53.63\00:19:55.88 Noah wasn't perfect, you know. 00:19:55.89\00:19:58.51 But what happens here is, then says in verse 22, 00:19:58.52\00:20:01.35 And Ham, the father of Canaan, 00:20:01.36\00:20:03.98 the Canaan saw the nakedness of his father, 00:20:03.99\00:20:05.79 and told his two brothers outside. 00:20:05.80\00:20:07.78 But Shem and Japheth took a garment, 00:20:07.79\00:20:09.78 laid it on both their shoulders, 00:20:09.79\00:20:11.06 and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. 00:20:11.07\00:20:12.78 Their faces were turned away, 00:20:12.79\00:20:14.25 and they did not see their father's nakedness. 00:20:14.26\00:20:16.24 And then we find that Noah wakes up 00:20:16.25\00:20:18.73 and he sees what the younger brothers did, 00:20:18.74\00:20:21.17 finds out what happened. 00:20:21.18\00:20:22.19 He says cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants. 00:20:22.20\00:20:25.37 He shall be to his brethren. 00:20:25.38\00:20:26.69 Now if your father pronounced a curse on you, 00:20:26.70\00:20:28.89 that would seem pretty harsh, because this wasn't just, 00:20:28.90\00:20:31.94 you're gonna lose your toys for the day. 00:20:31.95\00:20:33.19 You know, or you're not gonna let me, 00:20:33.20\00:20:34.32 I'm not gonna let you work with me in the garden. 00:20:34.33\00:20:35.62 It's not just temporary. 00:20:35.63\00:20:36.60 Yeah, I mean, it's not just, you know, slap on the wrist. 00:20:36.61\00:20:38.49 This is, you know, this followed them 00:20:38.50\00:20:40.49 through their whole life. 00:20:40.50\00:20:41.47 That's right. 00:20:41.48\00:20:42.82 So the question is, wasn't this kind of severe, 00:20:42.83\00:20:44.97 wasn't this, you know, a little unnecessary. 00:20:44.98\00:20:47.90 And what really we need to considered is, 00:20:47.91\00:20:50.49 number one, the culture. 00:20:50.50\00:20:52.09 This is oriental culture of the time. 00:20:52.10\00:20:55.21 This is, this is not American culture 00:20:55.22\00:20:58.23 that we are looking at here. 00:20:58.24\00:21:00.52 Back then, you know, the fifth commands says, 00:21:00.53\00:21:02.74 "Honor thy Father and Mother." 00:21:02.75\00:21:05.03 One of the most important things in this culture 00:21:05.04\00:21:07.90 at the time was respect for elders. 00:21:07.91\00:21:10.86 You know, you didn't just walk in on them, 00:21:10.87\00:21:14.26 if they're having a conversation, 00:21:14.27\00:21:15.83 you know, you didn't talked back to them. 00:21:15.84\00:21:18.74 If the Bible says, you know, 00:21:18.75\00:21:20.65 the gray hair of a man is his wisdom, 00:21:20.66\00:21:22.67 you know, so just by appearance, 00:21:22.68\00:21:25.00 you know, if a man had gray hair, 00:21:25.01\00:21:26.35 you would respect him. Right. 00:21:26.36\00:21:27.78 No matter who he was. 00:21:27.79\00:21:29.15 This was the degree to which respect 00:21:29.16\00:21:31.22 was given in this culture. 00:21:31.23\00:21:33.03 And so for Canaan, for Ham to see his father's nakedness, 00:21:33.04\00:21:38.19 number one, probably when he went into the tent 00:21:38.20\00:21:41.44 or whatever it was. 00:21:41.45\00:21:43.19 This was something that you'd already have 00:21:43.20\00:21:44.46 in your mind ahead of time. 00:21:44.47\00:21:45.44 I need to be cautious. 00:21:45.45\00:21:46.42 I mean, my father is in here. 00:21:46.43\00:21:47.40 Who knows what he's doing. 00:21:47.41\00:21:48.39 He could be sleeping, you know, so, 00:21:48.40\00:21:49.75 so you, it's a mind set. 00:21:49.76\00:21:51.82 You know, so we, sometimes 00:21:51.83\00:21:53.24 you need to pay attention what the Bible 00:21:53.25\00:21:54.47 is not saying to find out why this is happened. 00:21:54.48\00:21:57.21 You know, so he probably maybe just 00:21:57.22\00:21:59.15 charged right in there, you know. 00:21:59.16\00:22:01.23 And all of a sudden, boom. 00:22:01.24\00:22:02.21 There he is, his father's naked and then 00:22:02.22\00:22:04.31 to make it worse he...in my mind 00:22:04.32\00:22:07.20 at least he goes and tells his brothers. 00:22:07.21\00:22:08.84 He spreads the word. 00:22:08.85\00:22:09.82 He spread them all, you know, and once again the Bible 00:22:09.83\00:22:11.91 doesn't say in what manner he spread the word. 00:22:11.92\00:22:14.64 Maybe he was joking about it, maybe thought 00:22:14.65\00:22:16.50 it was kind of a funny thing. 00:22:16.51\00:22:17.82 We don't know but, you know, but it is very 00:22:17.83\00:22:19.98 likely because the curse, you know, the curse points to, 00:22:19.99\00:22:24.41 this is the severity of the circumstances. Right. 00:22:24.42\00:22:26.97 And so he tells his two brothers, 00:22:26.98\00:22:29.19 you know, big joke maybe who knows. 00:22:29.20\00:22:31.56 But the fact is that it was serious enough 00:22:31.57\00:22:33.15 to where the two brothers went in there with a blanket, 00:22:33.16\00:22:35.66 and they go into the tent and they're not, 00:22:35.67\00:22:37.58 they don't even look to see where they're going, 00:22:37.59\00:22:38.89 they just kind of, you know, they're walking back 00:22:38.90\00:22:40.46 with the blanket looking forward, 00:22:40.47\00:22:42.29 the father is behind them, 00:22:42.30\00:22:43.33 they put the blanket down, you know. 00:22:43.34\00:22:45.03 So they don't accidentally see him naked. Right. 00:22:45.04\00:22:48.58 So we have to considered the culture of the time. 00:22:48.59\00:22:52.35 That's why it was so, so severe of what had happened. 00:22:52.36\00:22:55.99 We don't understand this in American culture, 00:22:56.00\00:22:58.50 because it seems like in many families, 00:22:58.51\00:23:00.11 there is no boundary lines, you know. 00:23:00.12\00:23:03.19 And you know, it's we just don't 00:23:03.20\00:23:05.62 live in this culture today. 00:23:05.63\00:23:06.72 We don't see respect for elders the way we do. 00:23:06.73\00:23:09.71 We don't see respect for elders in the Bible as we, 00:23:09.72\00:23:12.21 as, you know, we see it in the America, 00:23:12.22\00:23:14.22 it just almost seems non-existence. 00:23:14.23\00:23:16.76 Kids talking about their parents, you know, 00:23:16.77\00:23:18.76 I grew up not in the church 00:23:18.77\00:23:20.39 so I had a lot of worldly friends and man, 00:23:20.40\00:23:22.13 I can tell you a story upon story on 00:23:22.14\00:23:23.80 how some of my friends talked to their parents. 00:23:23.81\00:23:25.11 I couldn't believe it, because even though 00:23:25.12\00:23:26.57 we didn't grow up in a religious home per say. 00:23:26.58\00:23:29.04 We were taught respect, you know, we were taught, 00:23:29.05\00:23:31.77 you know, you don't taught back to your parents. 00:23:31.78\00:23:34.34 You don't swear in front of your parents, 00:23:34.35\00:23:36.72 you know, any of the stuff and man, 00:23:36.73\00:23:38.88 I had some friends growing up, 00:23:38.89\00:23:39.99 I can't even tell you half the things they said. 00:23:40.00\00:23:42.46 I mean, they were talking to their parents 00:23:42.47\00:23:43.58 like they were dirt on the side of the street. 00:23:43.59\00:23:45.64 And it was tolerated, you know. 00:23:45.65\00:23:47.29 So we don't see this kind of respect 00:23:47.30\00:23:49.35 in our American culture. 00:23:49.36\00:23:51.18 I think it's common also there 00:23:51.19\00:23:52.50 by Christ as in the days of Noah, 00:23:52.51\00:23:54.44 so it will be just before the coming of the son of man. 00:23:54.45\00:23:58.29 So what we see today in the mistreating of kids 00:23:58.30\00:24:01.96 and disrespecting of kids toward their parents 00:24:01.97\00:24:03.90 I believe it was manifested 00:24:03.91\00:24:05.50 in what Ham did with his father of Noah. 00:24:05.51\00:24:08.35 Right, I think that's substantiated by the fact, 00:24:08.36\00:24:11.37 the time again throughout God's word you find, 00:24:11.38\00:24:13.73 this call to respecting your parents. 00:24:13.74\00:24:16.53 You know, call to obedience from children to parents. 00:24:16.54\00:24:19.62 Ham has obviously saw him and talked lot about it. 00:24:19.63\00:24:22.10 I think it's Timothy, or Peter talks about it, 00:24:22.11\00:24:23.68 in the last days we shall see, you know, disobedient children. 00:24:23.69\00:24:27.42 I mean, this is a pretty big issues, 00:24:27.43\00:24:28.81 and once again the fifth commandment, 00:24:28.82\00:24:30.72 you know, honor thy Father and Mother. 00:24:30.73\00:24:32.77 So it was a pretty serious thing, 00:24:32.78\00:24:34.50 we may not understand it, 00:24:34.51\00:24:35.79 but when we consider the culture of the time, 00:24:35.80\00:24:38.34 it may become a little more clear as to 00:24:38.35\00:24:40.84 why the curse was so severe and pronounce. Sure. 00:24:40.85\00:24:43.88 And this is obviously in note 00:24:43.89\00:24:44.86 of his violence of code of living. 00:24:44.87\00:24:47.61 Exactly, exactly. Thank you very much. 00:24:47.62\00:24:49.45 That was a good question. 00:24:49.46\00:24:50.83 We appreciate you sending that in. 00:24:50.84\00:24:52.30 You know, we can learn little pieces of, 00:24:52.31\00:24:55.83 you know, little nuggets of truth especially as we elevate, 00:24:55.84\00:24:58.69 you know, thinking about God's commandments. 00:24:58.70\00:25:00.08 We elevate that fifth commandment to a standard 00:25:00.09\00:25:02.37 where with we might not really give it unless 00:25:02.38\00:25:05.56 we see in these old stories really kind of 00:25:05.57\00:25:08.51 how important it is to God 00:25:08.52\00:25:10.20 that we treat our elders with respect. 00:25:10.21\00:25:12.75 And so I encourage you if you are young person 00:25:12.76\00:25:15.48 to always respect your parents 00:25:15.49\00:25:17.87 and those who are older and wiser. 00:25:17.88\00:25:23.23 Older and wiser, hopefully older and wiser. 00:25:23.24\00:25:24.72 Yes, all right. 00:25:24.73\00:25:25.83 I have one last question before we dive 00:25:25.84\00:25:27.44 into our subject here and I don't want to 00:25:27.45\00:25:28.90 spend a lot of time on it. 00:25:28.91\00:25:30.00 We could do an entire program on this, Kevin. 00:25:30.01\00:25:32.06 But I'm not gonna do that here but I will touch on it 00:25:32.07\00:25:35.34 because we receive several questions on it, 00:25:35.35\00:25:37.68 and also recently wrote a paper about it. 00:25:37.69\00:25:39.79 So it says, greetings in the name of Christ. 00:25:39.80\00:25:44.03 What was the Daily sacrifice in Daniel? 00:25:44.04\00:25:47.60 What does it mean? 00:25:47.61\00:25:49.55 There is a couple different interpretations, 00:25:49.56\00:25:51.70 number one, it means paganism. 00:25:51.71\00:25:54.43 And in another case, it was the ministry of Christ. 00:25:54.44\00:25:58.63 It doesn't, he is not reading that, 00:25:58.64\00:26:00.18 it saying that exactly but that's accomplish 00:26:00.19\00:26:02.42 kinds of some question, different questions 00:26:02.43\00:26:03.97 we received on this. 00:26:03.98\00:26:05.35 And that is currently the church's view of that. 00:26:05.36\00:26:07.65 It was the Daily is the minister of Christ 00:26:07.66\00:26:10.37 in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:26:10.38\00:26:11.93 and the truth that go along with that. 00:26:11.94\00:26:15.39 So he says which is which, you know, what's right? 00:26:15.40\00:26:17.98 Well, it's interesting to know, 00:26:17.99\00:26:19.25 if you go back into our history, 00:26:19.26\00:26:21.17 history of the Seventh-day Adventist church, 00:26:21.18\00:26:22.64 you will find that the pioneers got into a debate 00:26:22.65\00:26:27.28 over this issue at the turn of this century, 00:26:27.29\00:26:29.38 and that is the eighteenth century 00:26:29.39\00:26:30.70 into the nineteenth century. 00:26:30.71\00:26:32.36 And as they began to debate this issue, 00:26:32.37\00:26:34.60 they elevated to a level a test within the church. 00:26:34.61\00:26:40.01 And Sister White, who is there to provide counsel at times, 00:26:40.02\00:26:44.54 stepped in, this time on inspired counsels 00:26:44.55\00:26:48.44 just simply to say, I don't have any light on this issue, 00:26:48.45\00:26:51.85 don't divide over it, don't elevate this 00:26:51.86\00:26:53.74 to a standard of a test. 00:26:53.75\00:26:55.38 It is not something that place we need to go, 00:26:55.39\00:26:57.49 let's stay united and stick with sharing 00:26:57.50\00:26:59.43 the gospel in its true, in its true form, 00:26:59.44\00:27:01.74 the three angels messages and other things 00:27:01.75\00:27:03.30 that are surrounding the importance, 00:27:03.31\00:27:04.91 you know, parts of the everlasting gospel. 00:27:04.92\00:27:07.84 So she counseled on both sides, you said, 00:27:07.85\00:27:09.93 you know, you guys grew up, stop, you stop, 00:27:09.94\00:27:13.14 I don't have any special thing. 00:27:13.15\00:27:14.41 We know shouldn't elevate this, stop. 00:27:14.42\00:27:17.18 Now that being said, today it's happening again. 00:27:17.19\00:27:22.56 There some who are creating ministries out of this issue 00:27:22.57\00:27:26.73 and they're doing so to raise the level 00:27:26.74\00:27:32.00 of how you define the Daily into a test within the church. 00:27:32.01\00:27:36.01 Well, you know, you're not a true Adventist 00:27:36.02\00:27:37.51 unless you believe as the pioneers initially believed 00:27:37.52\00:27:40.95 which was that it was paganism, 00:27:40.96\00:27:43.03 and that's exactly what they did initially believe. 00:27:43.04\00:27:45.30 They thought that the Daily was referring to paganism, 00:27:45.31\00:27:49.94 not that it referred to the ministry of Christ 00:27:49.95\00:27:52.29 and heavenly sanctuary. 00:27:52.30\00:27:53.89 But as time went on, 00:27:53.90\00:27:56.74 a further understanding of Christ ministry 00:27:56.75\00:27:58.82 in the heavenly sanctuary which we covered 00:27:58.83\00:28:00.36 in the topic here recently, a question we had before 00:28:00.37\00:28:03.27 that the church then adopted the view that it was, 00:28:03.28\00:28:06.68 in fact, referring to the Daily ministry of Christ 00:28:06.69\00:28:08.62 not to paganism itself. 00:28:08.63\00:28:10.58 Now I have a paper that I recently wrote on that 00:28:10.59\00:28:13.16 the issue of the Daily and it was to, 00:28:13.17\00:28:15.98 hopefully kind of harmonize writings 00:28:15.99\00:28:19.69 we have from Ellen White scripture. 00:28:19.70\00:28:22.62 There is a detail verse by verse and actually word study 00:28:22.63\00:28:27.80 within the passage of Daniel chapter 8 00:28:27.81\00:28:30.72 that's really and in also 11 is in there too, 00:28:30.73\00:28:33.88 with regard to the Daily. 00:28:33.89\00:28:36.57 So I put this together with the intent on giving it 00:28:36.58\00:28:39.27 to anybody who is confused on it or who wants to know. 00:28:39.28\00:28:41.57 I offer that to you. 00:28:41.58\00:28:42.77 If you want a copy of the paper that I did on this, 00:28:42.78\00:28:45.45 so it's about 10 or 11 pages, 00:28:45.46\00:28:46.69 it's not too long I can send that to you. 00:28:46.70\00:28:48.66 If you would emailed at pastorstanton@gmail.com 00:28:48.67\00:28:52.82 pastorstanton@gmail.com I am happy to just attach it 00:28:52.83\00:28:58.39 and send it back to you and hopefully 00:28:58.40\00:29:00.91 it will help to clarify what some of the issues 00:29:00.92\00:29:02.69 are currently on that, but it took a while to study 00:29:02.70\00:29:06.41 that out and it will take an entire couple programs 00:29:06.42\00:29:09.20 really to do that. 00:29:09.21\00:29:10.46 But there is strong foundation for the church's current view 00:29:10.47\00:29:14.00 that it is accurate, it is correct, 00:29:14.01\00:29:15.96 and we should stay unified on that. Right. 00:29:15.97\00:29:18.03 And focus on the ministry that we have 00:29:18.04\00:29:19.67 which is reaching souls for Christ. 00:29:19.68\00:29:21.59 Exactly, it's pretty sad when a, 00:29:21.60\00:29:24.66 sometimes obscure aspect of scripture become such a bone 00:29:24.67\00:29:28.99 of contention that it divide us in the stories. 00:29:29.00\00:29:31.05 And that's not what God's word is design to do. 00:29:31.06\00:29:33.58 It's unifies us. Absolutely. 00:29:33.59\00:29:35.37 And if there any word is the little obscure, 00:29:35.38\00:29:38.37 you know, where there is just really 00:29:38.38\00:29:39.60 not a lot of evidence at the time, you know. 00:29:39.61\00:29:41.30 And I have to say, 00:29:41.31\00:29:42.28 we have gathered enough now but, you know. 00:29:42.29\00:29:44.34 It should not be a matter of division 00:29:44.35\00:29:46.87 absolutely not, you know. 00:29:46.88\00:29:48.81 So we need to very careful and cautious of these things. 00:29:48.82\00:29:51.43 You know, the center piece there too, 00:29:51.44\00:29:53.20 just to kind of give a little nugget. 00:29:53.21\00:29:56.07 Sister White needs to comment that, 00:29:56.08\00:29:57.82 they were all united at one point 00:29:57.83\00:30:00.51 on their view of the Daily and the context of that, 00:30:00.52\00:30:04.01 you have to read the entire passage there 00:30:04.02\00:30:05.57 from early writings. 00:30:05.58\00:30:06.72 The context of that was that they were united against 00:30:06.73\00:30:10.79 a literal interpretation of the sanctuary and the sacrifices. 00:30:10.80\00:30:15.80 They view the sanctuary, the sacrifices 00:30:15.81\00:30:18.32 as being referring to the heavenly sanctuary, 00:30:18.33\00:30:21.40 Christ ministry there. 00:30:21.41\00:30:23.04 The word sacrifice was added to the text 00:30:23.05\00:30:25.43 and those that were talking that were sacrificed to teach 00:30:25.44\00:30:28.39 that it was literal and occurring in Jerusalem, 00:30:28.40\00:30:31.67 that we need to go there and somehow 00:30:31.68\00:30:34.07 unite around this significant event, was inaccurate. 00:30:34.08\00:30:37.90 And so when she says, 00:30:37.91\00:30:39.39 we were all united in our view of the Daily. 00:30:39.40\00:30:41.34 She was saying, united in that it was Christ ministry, 00:30:41.35\00:30:44.40 not united in our interpretation of the meanings, 00:30:44.41\00:30:47.26 specific meaning about of the Daily. 00:30:47.27\00:30:49.36 And that's important. 00:30:49.37\00:30:50.34 Yeah, and later on, we know this true, 00:30:50.35\00:30:52.82 because later on when she writes counsel, 00:30:52.83\00:30:54.67 provides counsel on the issues, she says, 00:30:54.68\00:30:56.35 I have no knowledge as to the meaning of the Daily. 00:30:56.36\00:30:59.35 So she doesn't contradict herself 00:30:59.36\00:31:02.18 but people want to read into that 00:31:02.19\00:31:04.47 and they want to make it an issue and I just, 00:31:04.48\00:31:06.72 I want to encourage all you really get on strong foundation 00:31:06.73\00:31:09.76 and read both sides of the issue. 00:31:09.77\00:31:11.36 You've heard only one, read the other as well 00:31:11.37\00:31:13.98 and I believe the Lord will lead 00:31:13.99\00:31:15.79 and blessed by uniting His people together. 00:31:15.80\00:31:18.32 Okay, well, thank you very much for all your questions. 00:31:18.33\00:31:20.79 Let me put up the email address one more time. 00:31:20.80\00:31:23.14 For you, you can send your questions 00:31:23.15\00:31:24.70 to housecalls@3abn.org, that's housecalls@3abn.org 00:31:24.71\00:31:31.27 and again we look forward to receiving those 00:31:31.28\00:31:34.10 and allowing your questions to be part of this program. 00:31:34.11\00:31:37.51 That's always an exciting part. 00:31:37.52\00:31:39.91 Kevin, let's dive into our topic today. 00:31:39.92\00:31:42.31 It's on the power of grace and there are so many 00:31:42.32\00:31:45.51 different things that we can learn from 00:31:45.52\00:31:49.44 or learn about the grace of God 00:31:49.45\00:31:51.18 that I think we have not really even touched 00:31:51.19\00:31:53.68 the surface on, as we dived into the scripture. 00:31:53.69\00:31:57.57 This is one of those topics where, 00:31:57.58\00:31:59.20 you know, at first hearing the word grace, 00:31:59.21\00:32:01.70 oh, yeah, everybody knows what grace is. 00:32:01.71\00:32:03.85 But then when you start to dig, it's like mine, 00:32:03.86\00:32:06.28 this is like mining, digging down for oil and stuff. 00:32:06.29\00:32:09.25 And it really is, it's deep, you know, 00:32:09.26\00:32:10.88 and it's not just one meaning. 00:32:10.89\00:32:13.40 It wasn't really the beauty of the word...Yeah, so... 00:32:13.41\00:32:15.41 Yeah, I know that a lot of us, 00:32:15.42\00:32:16.95 you know, we've assigned this meaning of unmerited favor. 00:32:16.96\00:32:20.03 Right. And that's a good meaning, 00:32:20.04\00:32:21.84 I mean, that's kind of a general meaning, 00:32:21.85\00:32:24.31 it is God bestowing favor upon others, that's His grace. 00:32:24.32\00:32:27.75 When God blesses us, He is being gracious to us, 00:32:27.76\00:32:31.48 but there is something deeper to grace and that's why 00:32:31.49\00:32:34.23 I wanted to cover it in the sense 00:32:34.24\00:32:35.80 of its power in our lives. 00:32:35.81\00:32:38.34 And so we will do that over a couple of programs here. 00:32:38.35\00:32:41.45 I wanted to use as a springboard text. 00:32:41.46\00:32:44.80 A place that maybe people wouldn't ordinarily go 00:32:44.81\00:32:48.16 and that is in the book of Jude. 00:32:48.17\00:32:49.96 If you turn with us to the book of Jude. 00:32:49.97\00:32:52.33 It's only one chapter long but I'm gonna read 00:32:52.34\00:32:55.23 verses 3 and 4 and just point out something to you 00:32:55.24\00:32:59.68 that I think is important for all of us to be aware of, 00:32:59.69\00:33:03.93 because it does help to provide some insights 00:33:03.94\00:33:06.81 into how the grace of God is being mistaught, 00:33:06.82\00:33:11.91 misused, misinterpreted, whatever you have it 00:33:11.92\00:33:15.59 within Christianity today. 00:33:15.60\00:33:17.98 I'm gonna read here verses 3 and 4 00:33:17.99\00:33:20.09 from the book of Jude. 00:33:20.10\00:33:21.64 It says, Beloved, while I was very diligent 00:33:21.65\00:33:24.76 to write to you concerning our common salvation, 00:33:24.77\00:33:27.96 I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you. 00:33:27.97\00:33:31.23 So this time he's not just writing, 00:33:31.24\00:33:33.26 he is exhorting, he is admonishing, 00:33:33.27\00:33:35.73 he's encouraging them 00:33:35.74\00:33:36.83 to contend earnestly for the faith, 00:33:36.84\00:33:39.90 which was once for all delivered to the saints. 00:33:39.91\00:33:43.14 And here is why he is writing to them, exhorting them. 00:33:43.15\00:33:46.38 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, 00:33:46.39\00:33:51.46 they've crept into where? The church. 00:33:51.47\00:33:54.57 Unnoticed, who long ago were marked out 00:33:54.58\00:33:57.56 for this condemnation, ungodly men. 00:33:57.57\00:34:00.56 And here's what they do, 00:34:00.57\00:34:02.19 they turn the grace of our God into lewdness. 00:34:02.20\00:34:07.77 I like NIV's actually translation 00:34:07.78\00:34:11.14 of that word for lewdness, 00:34:11.15\00:34:12.71 it says license for immorality. 00:34:12.72\00:34:16.91 Into a license for immorality or license for sin, 00:34:16.92\00:34:20.56 and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. 00:34:20.57\00:34:25.04 Now if I was gonna put this in simple terms, 00:34:25.05\00:34:28.37 I would say that what Jude was saying to the church was that 00:34:28.38\00:34:31.44 men would come in and teach that the grace of God 00:34:31.45\00:34:35.86 gives you a license to kind of go about life as you please, 00:34:35.87\00:34:39.75 because it's all covered by the grace of God. 00:34:39.76\00:34:42.68 And it gives them, this cheap grace gives them 00:34:42.69\00:34:46.39 the license to commit even sin. 00:34:46.40\00:34:48.75 To go about their life in a sinful way 00:34:48.76\00:34:50.65 because God's done it all. 00:34:50.66\00:34:53.22 And the other thing that he hits on there is it diminishes 00:34:53.23\00:34:57.22 the importance of the commandments of God, 00:34:57.23\00:34:59.21 which Jesus clearly says if you love me, 00:34:59.22\00:35:01.05 keep my commandments. 00:35:01.06\00:35:02.06 So this cheap grace, these men that creep in 00:35:02.07\00:35:07.73 that are distorting the word of God 00:35:07.74\00:35:09.89 and they're destroying the doctrine of grace. 00:35:09.90\00:35:12.45 Or actually elevating or actually reducing the standard 00:35:12.46\00:35:15.58 that God has for us. 00:35:15.59\00:35:17.23 But allowing people or teaching them, 00:35:17.24\00:35:20.82 it's okay to kind of just live as you please. 00:35:20.83\00:35:22.71 Because once you're saved, you're always saved, 00:35:22.72\00:35:24.32 that's another aspect of it. 00:35:24.33\00:35:25.80 The other part is that, you know, 00:35:25.81\00:35:27.70 God is going to cover it anyway. 00:35:27.71\00:35:28.81 He's forgiving so, you know, it doesn't really mean 00:35:28.82\00:35:31.23 that you shouldn't try to eradicate 00:35:31.24\00:35:33.23 or push sin out of your life. 00:35:33.24\00:35:34.70 That's another topic, you know, we've covered before, 00:35:34.71\00:35:36.64 but this is a doctrine 00:35:36.65\00:35:41.12 that is essential to the Christian faith. 00:35:41.13\00:35:42.92 It's a part of our common salvation, 00:35:42.93\00:35:44.95 which Jude wrote about and it's something 00:35:44.96\00:35:47.41 that we need to understand in this great context 00:35:47.42\00:35:49.31 or the other doctrines that are surrounding it, 00:35:49.32\00:35:51.60 that are part of it will fall apart. 00:35:51.61\00:35:54.59 I'd like to know in verse 4, 00:35:54.60\00:35:55.96 it says for certain men have crept in unnoticed. 00:35:55.97\00:35:59.39 And then the second line says, 00:35:59.40\00:36:02.15 who long ago were marked out for this condemnation. 00:36:02.16\00:36:06.65 It seems the text is saying 00:36:06.66\00:36:09.01 that they may not be conscience, 00:36:09.02\00:36:11.05 that the conscience that they are doing. 00:36:11.06\00:36:12.65 In other words, just may not be 00:36:12.66\00:36:14.07 a pre-planned attack on their part. 00:36:14.08\00:36:17.32 They may not say ahead of time, okay, 00:36:17.33\00:36:18.74 this is what we're gonna do, 00:36:18.75\00:36:19.72 we're gonna go into the church, 00:36:19.73\00:36:20.70 we're gonna teach this, we're gonna corrupt this. 00:36:20.71\00:36:21.68 Exactly. 00:36:21.69\00:36:22.66 You know, the truth of salvation. 00:36:22.67\00:36:24.09 But the fact that they were marked out long ago 00:36:24.10\00:36:26.74 for this condemnation, tells me one thing 00:36:26.75\00:36:28.20 that these are pawns of the devil. 00:36:28.21\00:36:30.72 You know, which means that, 00:36:30.73\00:36:32.17 that this is a very important aspect of biblical teaching, 00:36:32.18\00:36:35.32 a very important doctrine that the devil wants to corrupt. 00:36:35.33\00:36:38.05 That he wanted to corrupt the early pure church, 00:36:38.06\00:36:40.04 I mean, you know, the church was new, 00:36:40.05\00:36:43.35 there was a lot of, it was brand new, 00:36:43.36\00:36:44.92 there was a lot of questions, a lot of wondering, 00:36:44.93\00:36:46.75 a lot of joy, a lot of, you know. 00:36:46.76\00:36:48.58 And in the midst of these all these brand new experience, 00:36:48.59\00:36:51.01 that's when the devil wanted to hit the hardest. 00:36:51.02\00:36:52.82 Yeah. You know, so of course, he had his little pawns 00:36:52.83\00:36:55.19 and so this is such an important, 00:36:55.20\00:36:56.59 is such a probably is a great topic. 00:36:56.60\00:36:59.70 Because you're right, grace isn't just a one time deal. 00:36:59.71\00:37:03.83 It's not, I don't want to get too far into it. 00:37:03.84\00:37:06.39 Yeah. But you're right. 00:37:06.40\00:37:07.37 It's not a one time thing, God's always, 00:37:07.38\00:37:10.08 his grace is at the forefront of our entire experience. 00:37:10.09\00:37:12.36 Yeah, you know, this manifested itself, 00:37:12.37\00:37:15.54 this creeping in of men with this doctrine 00:37:15.55\00:37:17.87 is manifesting itself in a couple ways 00:37:17.88\00:37:19.65 in the early church. 00:37:19.66\00:37:20.74 You will find that in 00:37:20.75\00:37:23.26 Revelation chapter 2 verses 6 and 15, 00:37:23.27\00:37:27.83 there is a reference to a people where it says, 00:37:27.84\00:37:33.17 here indeed to the church, 00:37:33.18\00:37:34.85 the message of the church of Ephesus, 00:37:34.86\00:37:36.83 Revelation 2 verse 6 it says, 00:37:36.84\00:37:38.97 But this you have that you hate the deeds 00:37:38.98\00:37:40.88 of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 00:37:40.89\00:37:43.69 Then in verse 15 to the church in Pergamos he says, 00:37:43.70\00:37:48.12 thus you also have those who hold to the doctrine 00:37:48.13\00:37:52.17 of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. 00:37:52.18\00:37:55.68 And if you do a study on the Nicolaitans, 00:37:55.69\00:37:57.58 you know what their major teaching was? 00:37:57.59\00:38:00.17 They believed in antinomianism which is disregarding the law. 00:38:00.18\00:38:04.50 The law no longer is obligatory, it's no longer, 00:38:04.51\00:38:07.57 do what you please. 00:38:07.58\00:38:09.31 And so the fruit of what Jude was talking about there, 00:38:09.32\00:38:12.80 found it's way into the early church 00:38:12.81\00:38:14.56 where the Nicolaitans took the hold, 00:38:14.57\00:38:17.07 inserted their doctrine of, you know, 00:38:17.08\00:38:20.29 grace is wonderful and you can kind of go as you please, 00:38:20.30\00:38:22.63 don't worry about the law. 00:38:22.64\00:38:24.10 And there was this imbalance then. 00:38:24.11\00:38:25.65 Grace up here, the law just gone, right, 00:38:25.66\00:38:29.21 and find that again today. 00:38:29.22\00:38:30.84 And contextually in Rome, that was pretty encompassing, 00:38:30.85\00:38:33.95 do as you please. Right. 00:38:33.96\00:38:35.24 Because we look at the practices of the Romans, 00:38:35.25\00:38:36.90 I mean, it was pretty, real pretty repulsive. 00:38:36.91\00:38:39.46 But it's not that different from what we're seeing today. 00:38:39.47\00:38:41.88 Right. You know, I mean, when you look 00:38:41.89\00:38:43.28 at the span of history, you know, 00:38:43.29\00:38:45.11 inequity is always abandoned. 00:38:45.12\00:38:46.60 There's always been lewdness and lust, 00:38:46.61\00:38:49.56 and all these kinds of other sins, you know. 00:38:49.57\00:38:51.45 It always existed, because men are corrupt, 00:38:51.46\00:38:54.05 but now in this day and age, you see such a, 00:38:54.06\00:38:56.55 almost a parallel to what was happening in Rome. 00:38:56.56\00:38:59.04 I mean, it was just, it was nothing to be 00:38:59.05\00:39:02.35 ashamed of anymore. Right. 00:39:02.36\00:39:03.43 You know, look at the billboard and looked at the billboards, 00:39:03.44\00:39:05.86 everywhere you look on the billboards, 00:39:05.87\00:39:06.93 you know, sex is selling everything 00:39:06.94\00:39:08.71 from cologne to butter. 00:39:08.72\00:39:12.10 Yeah, I know, it's true. 00:39:12.11\00:39:13.28 You know, and this is so, when this was being taught 00:39:13.29\00:39:18.71 that you can do as you please. 00:39:18.72\00:39:20.33 This wasn't, this wasn't a matter of eating 00:39:20.34\00:39:23.40 unclean meat or meat, 00:39:23.41\00:39:25.01 I mean, this is we're talking about 00:39:25.02\00:39:26.05 some serious practices that were 00:39:26.06\00:39:27.64 clearly forbidden by God, all for us. 00:39:27.65\00:39:29.40 Right, this wasn't a gray area. 00:39:29.41\00:39:30.38 This is the area that where we're clearly, 00:39:30.39\00:39:32.31 an area that was hated by God through the doctrine 00:39:32.32\00:39:35.95 of the Nicolaitans which are tied into 00:39:35.96\00:39:37.42 what they're talking about. 00:39:37.43\00:39:38.74 And he commends them for hating those very things. 00:39:38.75\00:39:40.33 That's right. You know, it was that bad. 00:39:40.34\00:39:42.72 So, you know, as we look at this then, 00:39:42.73\00:39:44.74 if it came into the early church. 00:39:44.75\00:39:47.23 You know, Kevin, we got to ask ourselves, 00:39:47.24\00:39:48.91 is it here again? 00:39:48.92\00:39:51.15 And I would say, it absolutely is. 00:39:51.16\00:39:52.81 Yes and I would say even in full strength. 00:39:52.82\00:39:54.39 Because, today one of the predominate teachings is, 00:39:54.40\00:39:58.97 it spring boards off a verse, 00:39:58.98\00:40:00.69 which we're gonna go to next. 00:40:00.70\00:40:01.78 Let's go to Ephesians Chapter 2, 00:40:01.79\00:40:03.67 if take Ephesians Chapter 2 00:40:03.68\00:40:05.04 and they read verses 8 and 9 and they stopped. 00:40:05.05\00:40:08.60 And they stopped exactly. 00:40:08.61\00:40:10.58 And so, let's read the verse and that the passage here 00:40:10.59\00:40:15.37 and then we'll talk a little bit about 00:40:15.38\00:40:16.66 what we're finding in the church today. 00:40:16.67\00:40:19.81 In fact, why don't you go ahead 00:40:19.82\00:40:20.79 and read that for us if you have that, Kevin. 00:40:20.80\00:40:21.97 Just kind of go through 8 and 9, 00:40:21.98\00:40:23.34 just stop right there so. 00:40:23.35\00:40:25.62 The Bible says in Ephesians Chapter 2 verse 8, 00:40:25.63\00:40:27.51 For by grace you have been saved through faith; 00:40:27.52\00:40:31.03 and that not of yourselves: 00:40:31.04\00:40:32.66 It is the gift of God, 00:40:32.67\00:40:34.09 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 00:40:34.10\00:40:36.97 Okay, you know, we recently finished a program, 00:40:36.98\00:40:41.56 not too long ago on, kind of obedience verses legalism 00:40:41.57\00:40:47.26 and how works comes into play of this whole thing. 00:40:47.27\00:40:50.94 We talked a lot about the grace of God 00:40:50.95\00:40:52.48 and how faith is involved there too. 00:40:52.49\00:40:54.90 Not in the way we're gonna talked about it today. 00:40:54.91\00:40:56.42 But clearly we saw that there was a grace 00:40:56.43\00:41:01.98 as where you begin in your relationship with Christ. 00:41:01.99\00:41:04.72 We cannot commend ourselves to Christ. 00:41:04.73\00:41:06.99 We can't recommend, chose me, 00:41:07.00\00:41:09.53 because of anything we've done. 00:41:09.54\00:41:11.40 We are nothing but filthy rags. 00:41:11.41\00:41:13.25 We don't have anything offer, 00:41:13.26\00:41:14.53 we are sinful human beings. 00:41:14.54\00:41:16.58 It's God's grace that allows us to experience, 00:41:16.59\00:41:20.11 begin to experience salvation in Christ. 00:41:20.12\00:41:22.89 And it has to be free from there, 00:41:22.90\00:41:25.05 the analogy is used when you're dirty 00:41:25.06\00:41:28.34 and you're coming in from working outside all day 00:41:28.35\00:41:30.88 and you need to shower. 00:41:30.89\00:41:32.46 What if the qualification for getting in the shower 00:41:32.47\00:41:34.72 was you have to clean yourself first? 00:41:34.73\00:41:37.11 How far would you get? I mean, 00:41:37.12\00:41:39.07 if you had to get cleaned before you get in the shower, 00:41:39.08\00:41:41.90 you know, you wouldn't go anywhere. 00:41:41.91\00:41:43.22 You wouldn't go in the shower. 00:41:43.23\00:41:45.05 And today it's the same way, 00:41:45.06\00:41:46.59 you know, we shouldn't, 00:41:46.60\00:41:48.23 where we shouldn't be concerned with our works 00:41:48.24\00:41:49.89 and what we have done before we get into shower. 00:41:49.90\00:41:52.73 It's once we get in the shower 00:41:52.74\00:41:54.00 that God cleans us up, 00:41:54.01\00:41:55.13 gives us the free gift of salvation and then says now, 00:41:55.14\00:41:58.32 walk with me in cleanness. 00:41:58.33\00:42:00.56 And then our life become changed. 00:42:00.57\00:42:02.49 And so in that respect this verse is telling us 00:42:02.50\00:42:05.99 that the grace is where we began. 00:42:06.00\00:42:07.71 Right, because we couldn't do anything 00:42:07.72\00:42:09.46 in and of ourselves. 00:42:09.47\00:42:10.44 You know, Isaiah says, 00:42:10.45\00:42:11.42 can a leopard change its spots 00:42:11.43\00:42:12.57 or the Ethiopian change its skin. 00:42:12.58\00:42:15.06 We're lost. That's right. 00:42:15.07\00:42:16.29 You know, we're lost 00:42:16.30\00:42:17.27 and we're in a lost condition. 00:42:17.28\00:42:18.60 If we could do anything in the, 00:42:18.61\00:42:22.96 I don't wanna use a formula. 00:42:22.97\00:42:24.18 If we could add anything to our salvation in the work 00:42:24.19\00:42:28.72 that was necessary to save us from... Right. 00:42:28.73\00:42:31.96 Then it would dismantle the whole entire 00:42:31.97\00:42:34.12 everything that Christ had done. That's right. 00:42:34.13\00:42:35.70 Because then angels could have come instead of Christ, 00:42:35.71\00:42:38.24 you know, If and you know, 00:42:38.25\00:42:40.05 so it's got to be all Christ or nothing. 00:42:40.06\00:42:42.73 Which means its grace, 00:42:42.74\00:42:44.13 and the beautiful thing about that 00:42:44.14\00:42:45.67 is the means that we all in the same level ground 00:42:45.68\00:42:48.23 at the foot of the cross, you know. 00:42:48.24\00:42:50.99 It's the same, it's the grace that saved me, 00:42:51.00\00:42:52.88 you know, it's the grace that brought me 00:42:52.89\00:42:54.47 into a relationship with him 00:42:54.48\00:42:55.86 and it's the same grace that brought you 00:42:55.87\00:42:57.00 into a relationship with Him. Amen. 00:42:57.01\00:42:58.56 So no matter how, 00:42:58.57\00:43:00.54 no matter how ugly of a life you're leading 00:43:00.55\00:43:02.60 or how apparently okay, so, so over life you're leading. 00:43:02.61\00:43:06.32 It doesn't matter we're all lost at the same, 00:43:06.33\00:43:08.46 at the same level. 00:43:08.47\00:43:09.55 It's only about the grace of God. 00:43:09.56\00:43:10.84 So as we look at this verse and I think 00:43:10.85\00:43:13.17 and you read the couple passages 00:43:13.18\00:43:14.47 or that, excuse me, the two texts 00:43:14.48\00:43:16.02 that usually are often quoted 00:43:16.03\00:43:18.55 in regard to the grace of God, 00:43:18.56\00:43:19.77 verses 8 and 9 of Ephesians 2. 00:43:19.78\00:43:21.83 The churches that take this today, go then a step further 00:43:21.84\00:43:26.13 and I believe they're delving into 00:43:26.14\00:43:27.60 what is referred to in Jude in verses 3 and 4, 00:43:27.61\00:43:30.97 which is they start to cheapen it. 00:43:30.98\00:43:33.25 And the reason I say that is because there becomes 00:43:33.26\00:43:35.55 an imbalance between grace and works. 00:43:35.56\00:43:40.79 Faith, we're saved by grace through faith and works. 00:43:42.14\00:43:46.34 Which then James then tries to restore 00:43:46.35\00:43:48.51 with the book of James. 00:43:48.52\00:43:49.49 But, I'm avoiding going there, 00:43:49.50\00:43:51.59 because we got other things about grace to talk about. 00:43:51.60\00:43:53.48 But this is where they go. 00:43:53.49\00:43:54.76 They start here and they stay here 00:43:54.77\00:43:56.76 and really the imbalance comes from emphasizing 00:43:56.77\00:44:00.78 one aspect of salvation over the other. 00:44:00.79\00:44:03.43 And there are two parts that bring about our redemption; 00:44:03.44\00:44:07.84 the first part is how we are justified. 00:44:07.85\00:44:10.98 We are justified by the blood of Christ. 00:44:10.99\00:44:12.81 There is nothing we can do, but when we believe in Him, 00:44:12.82\00:44:15.52 put our trust in Him, 00:44:15.53\00:44:16.93 His blood covers our sin and we are redeemed. 00:44:16.94\00:44:19.98 We are justified by His blood 00:44:19.99\00:44:21.50 and by the works that Christ has done. 00:44:21.51\00:44:23.53 We are talking as some, someone has said, 00:44:23.54\00:44:25.44 we're taken off death row 00:44:25.45\00:44:27.51 and we are counted mong the redeemed. 00:44:27.52\00:44:29.31 Praise the Lord, we are set free. 00:44:29.32\00:44:31.61 But from that point on you will find that 00:44:31.62\00:44:33.60 the scriptures are clear to reveal 00:44:33.61\00:44:35.87 that there is a sanctifying process. 00:44:35.88\00:44:38.17 There is a process of sanctification 00:44:38.18\00:44:39.84 which is the growth in Christ. 00:44:39.85\00:44:41.95 Christ doesn't leave us, how we came to Him. 00:44:41.96\00:44:45.37 He justifies us 00:44:45.38\00:44:47.45 and then begins to change our lives which takes time. 00:44:47.46\00:44:50.69 You know, someone doesn't go from 00:44:50.70\00:44:52.55 often from smoking a pack a day 00:44:52.56\00:44:55.20 to stop smoking all together. 00:44:55.21\00:44:57.54 Some do and I praise the Lord for that. 00:44:57.55\00:44:59.35 We hear about those experiences but... 00:44:59.36\00:45:00.92 But it's a rare experience. But it's rare. 00:45:00.93\00:45:02.39 Most people battle it for a while 00:45:02.40\00:45:04.44 until they finally get deliverance. 00:45:04.45\00:45:05.92 And I think a lot of that is, 00:45:05.93\00:45:08.16 now leads to the sin in our life, 00:45:08.17\00:45:10.27 that sometimes some of these sins 00:45:10.28\00:45:11.81 take a while to root out. 00:45:11.82\00:45:13.03 You know, things like anger. 00:45:13.04\00:45:14.23 I mean, you don't go from becoming, 00:45:14.24\00:45:16.00 you know, rushing from a 0 to 100 miles an hour 00:45:16.01\00:45:18.19 being angry from one day and the next day, 00:45:18.20\00:45:19.92 oh, you know, it's no problem. 00:45:19.93\00:45:22.63 God takes time to work on us 00:45:22.64\00:45:24.59 and this is where verse 10 comes into play. 00:45:24.60\00:45:27.74 I want you to read verse 10... 00:45:27.75\00:45:29.67 Because it's all connected to this whole thing. 00:45:29.68\00:45:32.55 For we are His continuing, not of works, 00:45:32.56\00:45:35.51 lest anyone should boast, verse 10; 00:45:35.52\00:45:36.98 For we are His workmanship, 00:45:36.99\00:45:38.67 created in Christ Jesus for, what? Good works. 00:45:38.68\00:45:41.56 Good works, which God prepared before Him 00:45:41.57\00:45:44.43 that we should walk in them. 00:45:44.44\00:45:45.84 If we couldn't do good works before we were saved, 00:45:45.85\00:45:49.53 you know, if we were in a lost condition, 00:45:49.54\00:45:51.89 if we were as Isaiah says, the leper, 00:45:51.90\00:45:55.03 you know, from the head to the foot, 00:45:55.04\00:45:56.20 from the sole of the foot to the head. 00:45:56.21\00:45:58.15 You know, there is no soundness in it, 00:45:58.16\00:45:59.55 only, petrifying sores, Isaiah says. 00:45:59.56\00:46:02.09 Speaking about the miserable condition of Israel 00:46:02.10\00:46:04.75 and its lost state. 00:46:04.76\00:46:07.24 If we can do anything good in that condition, 00:46:07.25\00:46:10.62 then and Christ is saying 00:46:10.63\00:46:11.97 that we've been created for good work, 00:46:11.98\00:46:13.02 then obviously there's a transition 00:46:13.03\00:46:14.29 that's suppose to be talking place. Yes. 00:46:14.30\00:46:15.82 Something is happening besides, 00:46:15.83\00:46:17.71 beyond just I have justified you to myself 00:46:17.72\00:46:21.32 by what I have done on the cross. 00:46:21.33\00:46:22.90 There is something else that is happening, 00:46:22.91\00:46:24.72 and we even created for Christ for good works. 00:46:24.73\00:46:28.09 Yeah, you know, it's interesting too 00:46:28.10\00:46:29.42 that it says, these good works were prepared 00:46:29.43\00:46:31.42 beforehand that we should walk in them. 00:46:31.43\00:46:33.35 Who prepared them beforehand? 00:46:33.36\00:46:34.86 God prepared them. God did in Christ. 00:46:34.87\00:46:37.41 His works then become the, what do you call it, 00:46:37.42\00:46:42.23 your repertoire 00:46:42.24\00:46:44.81 or your closet of works 00:46:44.82\00:46:49.36 for your life going forward. Right. 00:46:49.37\00:46:51.12 So where you were as filthy rags before 00:46:51.13\00:46:53.09 and now redeemed by Christ. 00:46:53.10\00:46:55.18 He has prepared these works beforehand 00:46:55.19\00:46:57.08 that He works through your life. Right. 00:46:57.09\00:46:59.09 And they become evident 00:46:59.10\00:47:00.07 that Christ has changed you from within. 00:47:00.08\00:47:02.44 And this is called sanctification, 00:47:02.45\00:47:04.29 a part that is often not emphasized 00:47:04.30\00:47:06.76 within the churches today. That's right. 00:47:06.77\00:47:08.77 Because with that comes 00:47:08.78\00:47:09.75 the accountability to the law, the commandments. 00:47:09.76\00:47:13.73 You know, ordering your life in harmony with God, 00:47:13.74\00:47:15.46 cleansing yourself from bad works 00:47:15.47\00:47:17.98 to living the life that God has called you to live, 00:47:17.99\00:47:20.20 all those other things. 00:47:20.21\00:47:21.49 I'll never forget when I was a colporteur years ago. 00:47:21.50\00:47:24.82 I remember I stopped at this one house, knocked the door, 00:47:24.83\00:47:26.38 and at the time I think I was 23 years old. 00:47:26.39\00:47:30.45 And this kid right around my same age, 00:47:30.46\00:47:32.04 you know, guy came to the door 00:47:32.05\00:47:33.66 and I sat down with him on the front porch. 00:47:33.67\00:47:35.20 And I'll never forget, 00:47:35.21\00:47:36.54 I wanted this child find a little of who he was, 00:47:36.55\00:47:39.03 you know, and his background and stuff. 00:47:39.04\00:47:40.76 And I'll never forget he had a, 00:47:40.77\00:47:42.33 he had a beer on the table, 00:47:42.34\00:47:44.72 a little coffee table there on the front porch. 00:47:44.73\00:47:46.70 He had a packet of cigarettes, 00:47:46.71\00:47:48.23 he was smoking a cigarette as we're talking 00:47:48.24\00:47:50.19 and I could see over in the corner, 00:47:50.20\00:47:51.34 some of the movies he had lying around his TV, 00:47:51.35\00:47:53.60 I won't even mention some of them. 00:47:53.61\00:47:56.02 And he's cursing up a storm, not in anger 00:47:56.03\00:47:57.83 but just in every other word out of his mouth. 00:47:57.84\00:48:00.32 And in the midst of all this, he says, 00:48:00.33\00:48:02.25 'cause I was wanted to give him a great controversy 00:48:02.26\00:48:04.78 or some peace of literature. 00:48:04.79\00:48:08.59 And I'll never forget, he says, 00:48:08.60\00:48:10.23 in the midst of this whole thing he says, 00:48:10.24\00:48:11.42 you know, yeah, I got saved, 00:48:11.43\00:48:12.74 I got saved back in '85, you know. 00:48:12.75\00:48:15.56 And I am thinking, I am think 00:48:15.57\00:48:17.77 and because you had to understand 00:48:17.78\00:48:18.79 where I had come from, 00:48:18.80\00:48:19.77 I had come out of that whole mess. Right. 00:48:19.78\00:48:21.23 And it was by the grace of God that he didn't, 00:48:21.24\00:48:24.08 God just declare me justified. Right. 00:48:24.09\00:48:27.75 But brought me from the mess 00:48:27.76\00:48:29.28 I was in to the person I was becoming. 00:48:29.29\00:48:31.78 You know, I'm looking at everything this guy is into, 00:48:31.79\00:48:33.77 and I am saying, 00:48:33.78\00:48:35.15 this is all the stuff that was destroying me. 00:48:35.16\00:48:38.17 And so, you know, but that is the view 00:48:38.18\00:48:40.53 like you were saying, a lot of churches have today. 00:48:40.54\00:48:43.98 You know, and I think James so aptly puts this. 00:48:43.99\00:48:48.59 That he says here 00:48:48.60\00:48:51.39 in James Chapter 2... 00:48:51.40\00:48:53.31 Verse 22. 00:48:56.07\00:48:58.85 Do you see that faith was working together 00:48:58.86\00:49:01.16 with his works, and by works faith was made perfect. 00:49:01.17\00:49:05.85 If you go down little a further he talks, 00:49:05.86\00:49:07.38 he says here in verse 24, 00:49:07.39\00:49:09.28 so you see then that a man is justified by works, 00:49:09.29\00:49:11.85 and not by faith only. 00:49:11.86\00:49:14.92 Another place and I can't see it right now. 00:49:14.93\00:49:16.58 He talks about how, 00:49:16.59\00:49:18.48 oh, here it is, verse 18, back up a little bit. 00:49:18.49\00:49:21.30 Someone will say, "You have faith and I have works. 00:49:21.31\00:49:23.72 Show me your faith without your works, 00:49:23.73\00:49:25.52 and I will show you my faith by my works." I like that. 00:49:25.53\00:49:28.22 So, you know, we reveal our faith 00:49:28.23\00:49:30.34 that we have been changed, we have gotten saved, 00:49:30.35\00:49:32.70 as many people use that term, 00:49:32.71\00:49:34.57 because of the works 00:49:34.58\00:49:36.20 that reveal the evidence of that. Right. 00:49:36.21\00:49:39.51 You know, it just seems 00:49:39.52\00:49:42.41 almost remedial to think about it. 00:49:42.42\00:49:44.84 And almost kindergartenish, 00:49:44.85\00:49:48.19 when you think of what God has done for us. 00:49:48.20\00:49:52.26 Wouldn't that call forth some response 00:49:52.27\00:49:55.46 at the very at least, out of gratitude, you know. 00:49:55.47\00:49:57.78 I mean, at the very least... It's hard to believe that, 00:49:57.79\00:50:01.05 that you would actually believe that you could, 00:50:01.06\00:50:03.01 once having met Christ and giving your heart to him, 00:50:03.02\00:50:04.97 that you would just continue in the way that you're going. 00:50:04.98\00:50:07.47 I mean, isn't there some level of gratitude 00:50:07.48\00:50:09.51 and you know, when I give my son a gift 00:50:09.52\00:50:12.80 or something like that. 00:50:12.81\00:50:13.78 Just out of responding to aid 00:50:13.79\00:50:14.78 or something you know, he's thankful. 00:50:14.79\00:50:16.67 And I see a change in him, you know. 00:50:16.68\00:50:18.89 Next time I ask him to wash the dishes, 00:50:18.90\00:50:20.17 help me wash the dishes or something like that, 00:50:20.18\00:50:21.50 you know, put the dishes away. 00:50:21.51\00:50:23.00 He is right there, he wants to help out, you know. 00:50:23.01\00:50:25.42 And there is response and when I think of grace, 00:50:25.43\00:50:29.48 when I think of justification. 00:50:29.49\00:50:32.45 When God declares us justified by what Christ did 00:50:32.46\00:50:35.09 on the cross and we accept that. 00:50:35.10\00:50:36.70 It's not just a one time deal. 00:50:36.71\00:50:37.91 It's actually an invitation. 00:50:37.92\00:50:39.85 It's an invitation to a responsive 00:50:39.86\00:50:42.42 relationship with Christ. Right. 00:50:42.43\00:50:44.34 I mean, that's what it is, it's a relationship. 00:50:44.35\00:50:46.79 Think about you're married 00:50:46.80\00:50:48.43 and I've been married for eight years. 00:50:48.44\00:50:50.50 Think about, think about 00:50:50.51\00:50:52.63 if we were the same people that we were, 00:50:52.64\00:50:55.28 you know, I don't know how long you've been married but. 00:50:55.29\00:50:57.61 You know, when you first got married, 00:50:57.62\00:50:58.83 16 years ago, okay, 00:50:58.84\00:51:00.14 I mean, imagine if you were the same exact person 00:51:00.15\00:51:02.00 you were sixteen years ago. 00:51:02.01\00:51:03.29 I would hope at least and I'm sure 00:51:03.30\00:51:04.39 your wife would hope even more. I'm a lot different. 00:51:04.40\00:51:06.25 You've grown. We all have. 00:51:06.26\00:51:07.55 You know I've grown, 00:51:07.56\00:51:08.57 and I have got a such a long way to grow even more. 00:51:08.58\00:51:10.95 But nobody should stay at the same place 00:51:10.96\00:51:13.63 they are in a relationship. 00:51:13.64\00:51:14.86 If it's a loving committed relationship 00:51:14.87\00:51:16.58 and the same thing with our redeemer. 00:51:16.59\00:51:17.83 That's right, you know, 00:51:17.84\00:51:19.51 as we were talking about grace then I know, 00:51:19.52\00:51:21.46 we've mentioned here justification. 00:51:21.47\00:51:23.62 But here is the statement I want to make 00:51:23.63\00:51:24.82 that kind of spring-boarding 00:51:24.83\00:51:26.08 the other things that we talk about. 00:51:26.09\00:51:27.99 Grace is as much a part of our justification experience 00:51:28.00\00:51:33.27 coming to Christ initially 00:51:33.28\00:51:34.55 and Him saving us by His grace. 00:51:34.56\00:51:36.72 As is our growing in Christ, our sanctifying experience, 00:51:36.73\00:51:41.54 our sanctification process. 00:51:41.55\00:51:44.10 As we put our trust in Christ 00:51:44.11\00:51:46.61 and he takes us off death row, 00:51:46.62\00:51:49.53 then He puts us into a walk, 00:51:49.54\00:51:51.39 into a relationship with Him 00:51:51.40\00:51:53.24 as He begins to change our life. 00:51:53.25\00:51:54.59 He continues to bestow His grace upon us. 00:51:54.60\00:51:57.94 And this is the aspect of grace 00:51:57.95\00:51:59.46 that we're going to talk about here 00:51:59.47\00:52:01.33 for the rest of this program, and next program in that. 00:52:01.34\00:52:04.14 Grace isn't just a merited favor to redeem 00:52:04.15\00:52:06.63 you where you are preciously unredeemable 00:52:06.64\00:52:09.02 or at least could not redeem yourself. 00:52:09.03\00:52:10.58 Grace is about changing your life 00:52:10.59\00:52:12.97 from that point forward, 00:52:12.98\00:52:14.32 getting you prepared for Jesus to come. 00:52:14.33\00:52:16.61 It's an empowering component. Yes. 00:52:16.62\00:52:18.58 So it doesn't just do something for you 00:52:18.59\00:52:21.80 as a gift that you couldn't do for yourself. 00:52:21.81\00:52:24.37 It continues to give it to you. 00:52:24.38\00:52:25.83 A sermon I recently did was entitled 00:52:25.84\00:52:28.38 "The Gift that Keeps on Giving." 00:52:28.39\00:52:30.73 In another words, it wasn't a one time event, 00:52:30.74\00:52:32.17 it was a repeated event, 00:52:32.18\00:52:33.68 the grace of God continued to be poured out to me 00:52:33.69\00:52:36.09 and you will find in the scriptures 00:52:36.10\00:52:37.33 that we will cover here shortly, 00:52:37.34\00:52:39.82 that grace in that context 00:52:39.83\00:52:42.40 is the most prominent use in scripture. It is. 00:52:42.41\00:52:45.25 Not in the way that it is most commonly taught. 00:52:45.26\00:52:48.96 Now, before we finished our program today, 00:52:48.97\00:52:52.36 I would like to just clarify the difference between 00:52:52.37\00:52:54.84 grace and one other thing that's often talked about, 00:52:54.85\00:52:58.21 which is mercy. 00:52:58.22\00:52:59.59 Because they are very different. 00:52:59.60\00:53:01.18 These two things are often muddied, 00:53:01.19\00:53:03.12 kind of mingled together. 00:53:03.13\00:53:04.94 And we think of them as being one, 00:53:04.95\00:53:06.97 but they are actually subtly different. 00:53:06.98\00:53:10.49 And here is the difference between grace and mercy. 00:53:10.50\00:53:14.11 Grace is receiving something from God 00:53:14.12\00:53:17.54 that we don't deserve. Right. 00:53:17.55\00:53:19.22 Anytime He pours out a blessing on us, 00:53:19.23\00:53:20.98 anytime you give something that comes from Him. 00:53:20.99\00:53:22.97 That's out of His grace. 00:53:22.98\00:53:24.77 That's His grace. Now we've earned it. 00:53:24.78\00:53:25.94 Right, we've learned it because He love us. 00:53:25.95\00:53:28.73 Mercy is not receiving something from God 00:53:28.74\00:53:32.48 that we do deserve. 00:53:32.49\00:53:34.86 So I don't receive condemnation from God 00:53:34.87\00:53:38.34 although I deserve it. 00:53:38.35\00:53:39.75 I don't receive judgment from God to condemnation 00:53:39.76\00:53:42.95 or I don't deserve death, 00:53:42.96\00:53:45.71 I mean, I deserve death but He doesn't give me death 00:53:45.72\00:53:47.85 because of His mercy. Right. 00:53:47.86\00:53:49.93 So in this respect, mercy is with holding judgment, 00:53:49.94\00:53:54.31 grace is liberally giving of himself. 00:53:54.32\00:53:57.82 So these are the, this the key difference, 00:53:57.83\00:53:59.93 because we'll muddy them. 00:53:59.94\00:54:01.22 You know, sometimes mercy 00:54:01.23\00:54:02.60 and grace kind of go together, 00:54:02.61\00:54:04.02 but they actually are quite different. 00:54:04.03\00:54:06.30 I notice in your notes, 00:54:06.31\00:54:07.62 you had a little illustration of what mercy is. 00:54:07.63\00:54:10.82 And I think we all can related to this. 00:54:10.83\00:54:12.56 You know, you're driving down the road, 00:54:12.57\00:54:13.54 not paying attention to the speed limit. 00:54:13.55\00:54:15.04 Your foot gets a little heavier 00:54:15.05\00:54:16.25 for whatever reason. 00:54:16.26\00:54:17.34 So, you know you're doing, let's say 65 and a 55 00:54:17.35\00:54:20.45 and you get pulled over. 00:54:20.46\00:54:22.20 Police officer comes up, checks out your license, 00:54:22.21\00:54:24.90 let's say your license is clean, 00:54:24.91\00:54:26.07 now you're waiting for the verdict. 00:54:26.08\00:54:27.06 You go back, goes back to his car. 00:54:27.07\00:54:28.24 The painful period where he's sitting in his car. 00:54:28.25\00:54:31.45 And you're just like praying Lord, 00:54:31.46\00:54:32.60 please show mercy. 00:54:32.61\00:54:34.42 And he comes back and says, 00:54:34.43\00:54:36.66 be more careful next time. 00:54:36.67\00:54:38.13 That's mercy. That's mercy. 00:54:38.14\00:54:39.42 You did not get something 00:54:39.43\00:54:41.36 that you deserved, you know... Absolutely. 00:54:41.37\00:54:42.95 You obviously were breaking the speed limit. 00:54:42.96\00:54:44.48 You did deserve the ticket. 00:54:44.49\00:54:45.65 I did deserve that ticket, you know. That's right. 00:54:45.66\00:54:47.92 But in mercy, we didn't get it. 00:54:47.93\00:54:51.90 And I think you ought to give a good example 00:54:51.91\00:54:53.32 really of grace which is as a father not compelled 00:54:53.33\00:54:56.51 to give your son a gift 00:54:56.52\00:54:58.02 but because you love giving gifts to your son. 00:54:58.03\00:55:00.74 You brought him a gift, 00:55:00.75\00:55:01.86 you showed him grace and he responded to that. 00:55:01.87\00:55:04.70 That's grace, that's giving of yourself 00:55:04.71\00:55:07.44 where the person doesn't ask for it, 00:55:07.45\00:55:09.48 or doesn't compel it or deserve it. 00:55:09.49\00:55:12.11 So this difference is really important to understand, 00:55:12.12\00:55:14.50 because repeatedly as we come back to grace 00:55:14.51\00:55:17.52 and talk about it as being a power that comes from God. 00:55:17.53\00:55:22.48 We're talking about it in that context 00:55:22.49\00:55:24.69 that He is giving us something that we don't have. 00:55:24.70\00:55:28.06 Not in the sense of mercy withholding 00:55:28.07\00:55:29.87 something that we actually deserve. 00:55:29.88\00:55:32.15 So as we transition now 00:55:32.16\00:55:34.52 and get ready for our next program, 00:55:34.53\00:55:37.36 what I'd like to do is take a look at one text here 00:55:37.37\00:55:41.97 from Second Corinthians Chapter 12 verse 9, 00:55:41.98\00:55:45.74 and this is where Jesus God 00:55:45.75\00:55:50.08 told Paul that He could stand, 00:55:50.09\00:55:53.16 that His grace was sufficient for him 00:55:53.17\00:55:55.87 and notice here how Paul relates this. 00:55:55.88\00:55:58.43 The response from the Lord is, my grace, 00:55:58.44\00:56:00.84 grace is sufficient for you. 00:56:00.85\00:56:04.22 And this is again, Second Corinthians 12:9. 00:56:04.23\00:56:06.28 My grace is sufficient for you, 00:56:06.29\00:56:08.08 for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 00:56:08.09\00:56:12.94 Where God was strong and Paul was weak, 00:56:12.95\00:56:18.76 God's grace step in to provide His strength 00:56:18.77\00:56:22.08 to overtake Paul's weakness. Right. 00:56:22.09\00:56:25.49 That is grace. 00:56:25.50\00:56:27.26 That is the power coming from God. 00:56:27.27\00:56:28.76 His strength coming from Him, 00:56:28.77\00:56:31.18 divine strength so to speak, 00:56:31.19\00:56:33.84 where we just simply don't have it. 00:56:33.85\00:56:35.77 And in Hebrew language, 00:56:35.78\00:56:37.61 this is in Hebrews, it says Greek. 00:56:37.62\00:56:38.83 But in the Hebrew language often a verse would start 00:56:38.84\00:56:42.06 and then at the end of that verse, 00:56:42.07\00:56:43.07 it really be repeating the same thought 00:56:43.08\00:56:45.01 with different words. 00:56:45.02\00:56:46.41 But likewise we do see that in the New Testament. 00:56:46.42\00:56:49.70 My grace is sufficient for you, 00:56:49.71\00:56:52.14 for my strength would be the equivalent of grace, 00:56:52.15\00:56:55.65 the previous verse. That's right. 00:56:55.66\00:56:56.83 For my grace is strength. 00:56:56.84\00:56:58.52 Grace is an active component, 00:56:58.53\00:57:00.65 you know, it's not an idle declaration. 00:57:00.66\00:57:03.48 And it is powerful, and especially this verse 00:57:03.49\00:57:06.02 because we're talking about weakness. That's right. 00:57:06.03\00:57:08.47 You know, we're talking about unfavorable conditions, 00:57:08.48\00:57:10.76 you know, struggling but God says, 00:57:10.77\00:57:12.94 my grace will enable you to stand. 00:57:12.95\00:57:15.44 Well, we pray that, that God's grace will continue 00:57:15.45\00:57:18.47 to be poured out on you as you were looking to be saved. 00:57:18.48\00:57:22.09 You were looking to come off death row, 00:57:22.10\00:57:23.70 He has done that, He is accomplishing that. 00:57:23.71\00:57:25.54 But He continues to offer His grace to you 00:57:25.55\00:57:27.74 each and everyday. 00:57:27.75\00:57:29.03 Stay tuned to our next program on that, 00:57:29.04\00:57:31.00 but for now may God bless you each and everyday. 00:57:31.01\00:57:33.83
