When the gift was given here,

you find the church
was furnished with not just

the gift of
speaking in another language

to foreigners, but
the church was furnished

with a number of gifts.

But this is a key point

point is taken very, very well.

There is no need to
give a gift to a person

who is not converted, because
a person is not converted.

Let me use an example

from maybe the
terrible plight of alcoholism.

You don't give an
alcoholic bottle of whisky.

And say, I would like you to
go sell this to someone else,

because chances are
it's not gonna make it there.

That's right. They may get it.

They may and
buy with themselves.

You don't give a gift that
is used for the glory of God

to a person who
has not submitted him

or herself to God.

And so the gifts
are given after a person

submits his or
herself to Christ.

But that's not the only
time that a person receives

the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Well, we know, we've
heard this passage before,

it's from Acts
that the Holy Spirit

is given to those who obey Him.

So there is got to be
some kind of an accompaniment,

right, to our proclamation,

or public
proclamation in baptism.

That we not only believe in Him,

but we are following
Him with everything we have.

And that's when
the Holy Spirit comes,

it's almost like, you know,

we don't do the works of
God without the Holy Spirit.

But the Holy Spirit
doesn't move upon us

unless we begin to
do the works of God.

and submit ourselves.

it's a meaning of God.

the Sprit begins to work.

we do, but that work of,

There is
reconciliation that takes place,

and then when the
reconciliation takes place.

You know, wonderful example

illustrate this very well.

A person is called,
because they respond

to a request for
a job to be filled.

They fill out an application,
their desire is expressed.

Then they are
called by the company,

the invitation is extended.

That's like we say, Lord,

I desire to have You in my life.

We express our desire
the invitation is extended,

The Father will in
no wise cast out anyone

And in the Christian
sense we begin disciplining you

for the gift that God
is gonna place in your life

for that gift to
work, for the growing

of the cause of
God, for the advancement

of the mission and the

So the Spirit of God is the
one that convicts you though

There is a danger, John,

today that so many people
are exalting the Holy Spirit.

But the Bible says, speaking of,

Jesus, when He is lifted up,

He will draw all men to Himself.

That's right, nowhere
in the Bible are we told

at least I haven't seen it
yet to exalt the Holy Spirit.

We are to pray
for the Holy Spirit
00:10:10.43\00:10:12.92
to come into our lives,
to work in and in through us.

But the one to be exalted
is the one that will draw

all men to himself when, Jesus,

is lift up from the
earth as He was on the cross,

He will draw all men to Himself.

You know, and
often it seems like today

that manifestations
of the Holy Spirit

people are looking for that.

And but a very
much is a self serving,

self seeking kind of pursuit,

because what they are
looking for is an experience

internal laughing in the sprit.

You know, joy and the spirit,

all these things
that make you giggling

and fun and all this stuff.
00:10:43.44\00:10:45.38
Those things are
pleasure seeking for ourselves.

But the spirit
is not about that,
00:10:48.12\00:10:49.34
it says the spirit is
spirit of truth, that's right.
00:10:49.35\00:10:51.67
The spirit
comes to us to help us
00:10:51.68\00:10:53.09
and convict us of sin of
righteousness of judgment,
00:10:53.10\00:10:56.30
but also to
speak of those things.
00:10:56.31\00:10:58.14
So it gives us power to speak,
00:10:58.15\00:10:59.47
it gives us a message to bear
00:10:59.48\00:11:01.52
and that message
is a message of truth.

So the spirit isn't something

that you
experienced for yourself.

The spirit is something
always that enables you,

or empowers you to
give someone else's message

to give someone else that gift

that you're receiving

just a gift to be used

It's a sign of unbelievers,

with the gift of prophecy.

than speaking tongues,

not as a sign to
unbelievers who are outside.

Yet, we in church seem
to use want to use tongues

as some kind of a
thing that it's given

for just to church
inside and we experience,

and we love, and we
laugh, and we enjoy,

but that's not really what
the gift of tongues is about.

So it's almost like
saying, well, we got it now,

we are really filled,
but I want to show you

a few things in
just two more texts.

John 7, verse 39,
because the question is,

do we receive the gifts of
the Holy Spirit after baptism?

And I would say whole
heartedly the answer is yes.

The gift is activated,
what you have sometimes

as a natural
ability is now bathed

and become a spiritual gift.

well, there is the
gift of administration

and a person who
maybe a good administrator

in the natural

in the spiritual world.

Well, what's the
difference in what he did before

and what he did afterwards?

Well, the difference is
one was for your own glory,

the other one now is
for the glory of God.

One was on your ability,

you have to keep
that going on your own.

The other one is under
the auspices and direction

and sustenance

One was relying
on your own power.

The other one now is set

singer in the Christian,
