the base where our thoughts are

become passionate to a person.

meaning the place,
the seat of affections.

and the heart is usually

Well, we go to Wal-Mart a lot.

If you live in the Midwest,
Wal-Mart is like Nordstroms,

isn't it? That's true.

Nordstrom or I don't want to

like Wal-Mart is the one-stop

shopping. And for some
people it can also be the place

where you get your
blood pressure checked. Yeah.

And you know when you're not
feeling well, somebody's in the

aisle, but somebody sits down
sometimes at the blood pressure

checking machine. Put that...
press down on the red button

and it just goes ahead. And
you say, you know, 120/71...

the difference is that when
you hear some disturbing news

something emotional takes place

"I'm so happy up here. "

"I'm happy in here, " you know?

And so the heart is the seat
of the, you said, "passions. "

I typically say, you know,
the emotions, the motivation

that we have. The things
that move us with emotion.

And it's hard... You
know, sometimes the English...

mind does the thinking

It's not only
thinking it intellectually.

impassioned by it too.

has put wisdom in the mind?

understanding to the heart? "

people "OK, I get it. "

What they're meaning is "I get

2: "Examine me, O Lord,

and prove me. Try
my mind and my heart. "

David is saying this
is vitally important.

don't leave any one of
those out because these are the

places of
storage. " And then lastly

"Thus my heart was grieved
and I was vexed in my mind. "

Meaning I was troubled
in my mind. My heart was

going through
pain. My heart ached.

You've heard that phrase
heartache? You don't call it...

over a grieving situation.

to the mind of the issue. "

One more thing too here.

They both have to work together:
heart and mind - right -

to have a full, well-rounded,
spiritual relationship...

And I think there are some out
there that only have a spiritual

experience with their mind.

And there are some out there
that only have the spiritual

experience with their heart.

In other words, with the
mind they intellectually know

all the truths of God's Word.

They can repeat it; they've got
good memorization of scripture.

But when you try to
appeal to them on a heart level

talk logic and the facts

is, and there's not a lot of

was asked by one of our elders

he mentioned to her...

he said: "do you
think Jesus ever smiled? "

And she said: "Oh, no.
I mean He had a nice look

on His face but no, He
wouldn't have smiled. "

And he said: "Well I'm not
sure the God that I imagine

is the same one
that you're imagining. "

So she came from a very, just
intellectual-only perspective

- right - for what He's done
