Yes, we are. 00:00:47.77\00:00:49.45 In fact, we keep on getting certain questions 00:00:49.46\00:00:52.28 that have a theme, an underlying theme. 00:00:52.29\00:00:54.22 And we're gonna try and address one of those today. 00:00:54.23\00:00:56.29 Okay, well, before we do anything though, 00:00:56.30\00:00:58.33 we're gonna have prayer, 00:00:58.34\00:00:59.50 and, John, would you lead us 00:00:59.51\00:01:01.27 before the thrown-in. Absolutely, prayer. 00:01:01.28\00:01:03.08 Our Father in Heaven, you are so gracious to us 00:01:03.09\00:01:05.37 and we just thank You for that and pray 00:01:05.38\00:01:07.08 that You would empower us today as we study Your word. 00:01:07.09\00:01:11.72 Through Your Holy Spirit, 00:01:11.73\00:01:12.99 lead and guide us in the things 00:01:13.00\00:01:14.51 that we talk about or may You be glorified 00:01:14.52\00:01:16.99 in everything that is said and done. 00:01:17.00\00:01:18.38 In Jesus name, amen. Amen. 00:01:18.39\00:01:21.39 Well, friends, as you know, 00:01:21.40\00:01:22.39 your Bible questions are big part of this program 00:01:22.40\00:01:25.06 and we thank you for being faithful 00:01:25.07\00:01:26.92 in sending those questions in. 00:01:26.93\00:01:29.05 I know that every program we have it 00:01:29.06\00:01:30.81 always activates in your mind something 00:01:30.82\00:01:32.59 that you want to ask or may be a comment you want to make 00:01:32.60\00:01:34.71 and we thank you for both 00:01:34.72\00:01:36.19 the questions and the comments, 00:01:36.20\00:01:38.07 but if you have either one you would like to send to us 00:01:38.08\00:01:40.32 by email, the address is housecalls@3abn.org. 00:01:40.33\00:01:44.52 That's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:01:44.53\00:01:48.13 Send those to that email and we'll get it, 00:01:48.14\00:01:51.27 but if you have the envelope 00:01:51.28\00:01:52.65 and you want to send it that way, 00:01:52.66\00:01:53.72 that's PO Box 220, West Frankfort, Illinois 62896. 00:01:53.73\00:01:59.27 John, what do we have today 00:01:59.28\00:02:00.46 as far as questions are concerned? 00:02:00.47\00:02:02.11 We've some great questions definitely 00:02:02.12\00:02:04.04 and we always have great questions, 00:02:04.05\00:02:06.29 but, you know, they sometimes 00:02:06.30\00:02:09.17 follow a certain kind of line of thought or reasoning 00:02:09.18\00:02:12.20 and it really helps us kind of keep in touch with, 00:02:12.21\00:02:14.65 you know, those who are watching 00:02:14.66\00:02:15.76 and listening and this is one of those. 00:02:15.77\00:02:18.75 Hello, Pastor John and John, 00:02:18.76\00:02:20.11 thank you so much for what you're doing 00:02:20.12\00:02:22.33 and the clarity you bring to the word of God. 00:02:22.34\00:02:23.95 Thank you very much for that. 00:02:23.96\00:02:25.07 Praise the Lord. 00:02:25.08\00:02:26.78 Can you please explain verse-- 00:02:26.79\00:02:28.50 the verse in Isaiah Chapter 4? 00:02:28.51\00:02:30.98 And that is specifically verse 1. 00:02:30.99\00:02:33.07 Oh, that's a good one. 00:02:33.08\00:02:34.34 So let's take a look at that here, 00:02:34.35\00:02:36.04 Isaiah 4 verse 1. 00:02:36.05\00:02:37.41 We'll go ahead and read that 00:02:37.42\00:02:38.41 and I'll share a couple of things. 00:02:38.42\00:02:39.54 And John, I know that you've even preached on this 00:02:39.55\00:02:41.23 before so you want to share some thoughts. Oh, yeah. 00:02:41.24\00:02:44.70 Isaiah 4 verse 1 says, 00:02:44.71\00:02:49.32 "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, 00:02:49.33\00:02:54.14 saying, we will eat our own food, 00:02:54.15\00:02:57.15 and wear our own apparel, 00:02:57.16\00:02:59.10 only let us be called by your name, 00:02:59.11\00:03:01.66 to take away our reproach." 00:03:01.67\00:03:05.82 And there's a lot of symbolism there. 00:03:05.83\00:03:07.81 You know, we find that probably 00:03:07.82\00:03:10.78 in a literal sense here, 00:03:10.79\00:03:12.28 there isn't a lot of this kind of thing 00:03:12.29\00:03:14.52 that we can imagine really happening. 00:03:14.53\00:03:17.85 Although I guess you could say 00:03:17.86\00:03:19.30 that there could be one man that is so attractive 00:03:19.31\00:03:21.29 that seven women would want to go after him. 00:03:21.30\00:03:23.65 The Bible's not really talking about that. That's right. 00:03:23.66\00:03:25.84 You should hear really is the second part 00:03:25.85\00:03:27.63 of this verse is let us do our own thing, 00:03:27.64\00:03:31.65 but let us be called by your name. 00:03:31.66\00:03:34.09 So there is something-- there is one thing that this 00:03:34.10\00:03:37.72 man has that's enticing to these women. 00:03:37.73\00:03:42.00 But they don't want the rest of it. 00:03:42.01\00:03:44.20 And I think that as we take a look at this verse, 00:03:44.21\00:03:48.52 we can't help, but see 00:03:48.53\00:03:49.93 that there is a connection here to Christ being the man 00:03:49.94\00:03:53.71 as you read the book of Revelation and other places 00:03:53.72\00:03:56.01 that God wants to give us His name 00:03:56.02\00:03:58.50 and when you become a Christian of course, 00:03:58.51\00:04:00.56 C-h-r-i-s-t is part of the word Christian. 00:04:00.57\00:04:03.54 We take on the name of Christ. 00:04:03.55\00:04:05.40 Even third commandment 00:04:05.41\00:04:06.49 that shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain 00:04:06.50\00:04:08.66 has more to do with how we act as Christians 00:04:08.67\00:04:14.13 after we receive the name of Christ 00:04:14.14\00:04:15.64 than it does with cursing. That's right. 00:04:15.65\00:04:18.03 People are not gonna realize that. 00:04:18.04\00:04:19.24 They think, well, you said God's name 00:04:19.25\00:04:20.90 that's against the third commandment. 00:04:20.91\00:04:22.01 Well, yes, but what really is the problem 00:04:22.02\00:04:26.27 especially in the last days 00:04:26.28\00:04:28.18 and it's been this way for a long time. 00:04:28.19\00:04:29.94 But really now especially is that we're seeing in public, 00:04:29.95\00:04:33.87 a professing of Christ name of Christianity, 00:04:33.88\00:04:37.45 but the acts the way of the life, the lifestyle, 00:04:37.46\00:04:43.07 the way that they're modeling 00:04:43.08\00:04:44.93 Christ is not Christ like at all. Right. 00:04:44.94\00:04:48.20 And so we're finding that these women here 00:04:48.21\00:04:50.46 they want the name of Christ and what it brings. 00:04:50.47\00:04:53.35 Jesus, our savior, who will-- who through Him 00:04:53.36\00:04:57.42 we enter into heaven for eternal bliss. 00:04:57.43\00:05:00.67 They like that part, but the changing of the life. 00:05:00.68\00:05:04.69 The things required to order your life 00:05:04.70\00:05:07.08 in harmony with what His will is. 00:05:07.09\00:05:09.57 They don't like and so that's why the words they are said, 00:05:09.58\00:05:12.32 hey, you know, we want to do I left at there-- 00:05:12.33\00:05:16.11 Eat our own bread. Eat our own bread. 00:05:16.12\00:05:18.16 They want to do own thing. Wear our own apparel. 00:05:18.17\00:05:20.47 They want to look the way that they want to look. 00:05:20.48\00:05:23.49 That is something that they're not willing to give up. 00:05:23.50\00:05:26.56 But they like the name of Christ. 00:05:26.57\00:05:28.05 So this is really what it means. 00:05:28.06\00:05:29.28 And I know, we'll expand. 00:05:29.29\00:05:30.28 It's just kind of an opening comment there, 00:05:30.29\00:05:31.70 but essentially that's what it's talking about. Okay. 00:05:31.71\00:05:35.23 And true, you know, the Bible, 00:05:35.24\00:05:36.53 when the Bible brings this subject into full view, 00:05:36.54\00:05:40.55 garments has everything to do with 00:05:40.56\00:05:43.07 before and after sin. That's right. 00:05:43.08\00:05:44.84 Garments has everything to do with that. 00:05:44.85\00:05:45.98 As a matter of fact, I have in front of me 00:05:45.99\00:05:48.01 what I want to share with you Genesis 2 and verse 25, 00:05:48.02\00:05:50.46 the Bible says, referring to Adam and Eve, his wife. 00:05:50.47\00:05:54.15 It says, and they both were naked, 00:05:54.16\00:05:56.49 the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. 00:05:56.50\00:05:59.80 Now it talked about they didn't have on 00:05:59.81\00:06:01.34 physical clothing, as we have today 00:06:01.35\00:06:03.67 but they were covered in the garment of Christ. 00:06:03.68\00:06:06.28 His righteousness, this garment 00:06:06.29\00:06:08.49 that they lost after they sinned 00:06:08.50\00:06:11.41 and as you know in Genesis 3, 00:06:11.42\00:06:13.38 the Bible says in Genesis 3 and verse 7, 00:06:13.39\00:06:16.01 then the eyes of both of them were opened, 00:06:16.02\00:06:17.82 and they knew that they were naked, 00:06:17.83\00:06:19.29 and they sewed fig leaves together 00:06:19.30\00:06:21.26 and made themselves covering. 00:06:21.27\00:06:24.39 And in this case, that's exactly 00:06:24.40\00:06:25.78 what's happening on Isaiah. 00:06:25.79\00:06:26.80 They're making coverings for themselves. 00:06:26.81\00:06:29.86 They were still the creation of God. 00:06:29.87\00:06:32.01 Adam was still made by God. 00:06:32.02\00:06:34.09 Eve was still made from Adam. 00:06:34.10\00:06:36.44 And was still a creation of God, 00:06:36.45\00:06:37.70 but it says they made themselves covering 00:06:37.71\00:06:40.58 and the difference is when the Lord came looking for them 00:06:40.59\00:06:45.63 and He said in Genesis 3 and verse 10, 00:06:45.64\00:06:49.10 when He called them, 00:06:49.11\00:06:50.28 this is the response that Adam gave, 00:06:50.29\00:06:52.93 so He said that is Adam said, 00:06:52.94\00:06:54.99 I heard your voice in the garden 00:06:55.00\00:06:57.06 and I was afraid because I was naked and I hid myself. 00:06:57.07\00:07:00.78 Now this is funny, John. 00:07:00.79\00:07:02.72 They'd already made themselves covering, 00:07:02.73\00:07:05.45 but when the Lord called Adam 00:07:05.46\00:07:07.47 and he came before the Lord, 00:07:07.48\00:07:08.51 he said I was naked this is why I was hiding. 00:07:08.52\00:07:11.16 He noted-- he acknowledged 00:07:11.17\00:07:12.84 that his covering really keeps him as naked 00:07:12.85\00:07:16.33 because it was not the covering 00:07:16.34\00:07:17.34 that God gave to him. 00:07:17.35\00:07:18.90 So what I'm first connecting here is in Isaiah 4, 00:07:18.91\00:07:22.23 those who eat their own bread 00:07:22.24\00:07:24.30 and we could talk about bread all day long. 00:07:24.31\00:07:26.09 I'll let you talk about that next. 00:07:26.10\00:07:28.04 But we know what that means synonymously in scripture. 00:07:28.05\00:07:31.03 But those who wear their own apparel, 00:07:31.04\00:07:33.30 those who have their own garments 00:07:33.31\00:07:34.89 of righteousness are naked before the Lord. 00:07:34.90\00:07:38.90 Because they're self righteous. 00:07:38.91\00:07:40.64 Okay. That's right. 00:07:40.65\00:07:41.93 And then Genesis 3 and verse 11, 00:07:41.94\00:07:43.67 is what exactly the Lord dealt with them. 00:07:43.68\00:07:46.09 This is what he said and he said--the Lord said, 00:07:46.10\00:07:49.87 who told you that you were naked. 00:07:49.88\00:07:52.85 Have you eaten from the tree of which 00:07:53.21\00:07:55.12 I commanded you that you should not eat? 00:07:55.13\00:07:58.49 And usually when we do what God tells us not to do, 00:07:58.50\00:08:01.65 it leads to losing His righteousness. 00:08:01.66\00:08:03.95 It leads to a garment that we've to substitute. 00:08:03.96\00:08:06.83 In this sense, Isaiah says, 00:08:06.84\00:08:09.12 they're those who just want His name, 00:08:09.13\00:08:11.75 but they don't want His garment. 00:08:11.76\00:08:13.07 Yeah. Okay. 00:08:13.08\00:08:14.07 The other thing too it says and you've mentioned 00:08:14.08\00:08:15.95 this before about eating their own food. 00:08:15.96\00:08:19.25 You know, the bread of life is synonymous with scripture. 00:08:19.26\00:08:24.25 Studying the word of God 00:08:24.26\00:08:25.31 and letting it come into your heart 00:08:25.32\00:08:26.56 and allowing to transform your life and your mind. 00:08:26.57\00:08:29.56 They want to read other things. 00:08:29.57\00:08:32.44 They want to order their life 00:08:32.45\00:08:34.12 and harmony with other principles besides God's word. 00:08:34.13\00:08:37.29 There is no transformation of the life. 00:08:37.30\00:08:39.64 There is just a desire to be called by the name of Christ 00:08:39.65\00:08:42.45 because they do recognize the Christ is the Savior 00:08:42.46\00:08:46.59 and that's the key for this verse, I think. 00:08:46.60\00:08:48.70 This is more of talking about people 00:08:48.71\00:08:51.42 who are professed Christians 00:08:51.43\00:08:53.63 then it is talking about those 00:08:53.64\00:08:55.26 who do not profess Christianity 00:08:55.27\00:08:56.54 who want nothing to do with God. Okay. 00:08:56.55\00:08:58.78 So really what we're looking at is the church... 00:08:58.79\00:09:02.73 full of names-- people 00:09:02.74\00:09:04.30 who profess Christ and His name, 00:09:04.31\00:09:06.61 but have left that sanctifying element 00:09:06.62\00:09:09.23 out of the Christian experience. 00:09:09.24\00:09:11.25 They just want the name of Christ. 00:09:11.26\00:09:13.33 They don't want anything to do with the changed life. 00:09:13.34\00:09:16.18 As a matter of fact, to build on that, 00:09:16.19\00:09:20.48 they're also substituting. 00:09:20.49\00:09:24.49 Let's go down the road little bit on this topic. 00:09:24.50\00:09:28.04 Their substitution falls into every different categories, 00:09:28.05\00:09:31.45 but they really fall under one classification, 00:09:31.46\00:09:34.28 your own righteousness or your own, 00:09:34.29\00:09:37.71 well, yeah, that's the best one, your own righteousness. 00:09:37.72\00:09:39.88 This is not the righteousness of Jesus. 00:09:39.89\00:09:43.53 And Jesus addressed this one 00:09:43.54\00:09:45.09 in Revelation Chapter 16, verse 15. 00:09:45.10\00:09:47.01 He says, behold, I'm coming as a thief. 00:09:47.02\00:09:50.95 Blessed as He who watches, and keeps his garments, 00:09:50.96\00:09:55.20 lest he walks naked, and they see his shame. 00:09:55.21\00:09:59.80 So you see there, the garment 00:09:59.81\00:10:01.75 that the Lord is saying that we all need 00:10:01.76\00:10:04.51 is the garment He gave to us. 00:10:04.52\00:10:06.30 Because there is no other garment 00:10:06.31\00:10:07.44 that could keep us from being naked than his garment 00:10:07.45\00:10:11.41 and that's a very amazing comparison 00:10:11.42\00:10:14.64 the Bible uses all the time 00:10:14.65\00:10:16.70 and I thought it was not unusual, 00:10:16.71\00:10:17.99 John, that one of the conditions 00:10:18.00\00:10:20.37 of the last church is they're wretched, 00:10:20.38\00:10:23.35 miserable, poor, blind, and naked. 00:10:23.36\00:10:27.79 So we're living in a very, 00:10:27.80\00:10:29.39 we're living in a naked age in more ways than one. 00:10:29.40\00:10:33.20 Well, you already know about the fashions 00:10:33.21\00:10:34.70 and Lord have mercy when the summer comes. 00:10:34.71\00:10:38.38 But we're all--we're all living in a naked age 00:10:38.39\00:10:41.37 in the very same way we're living in an age 00:10:41.38\00:10:43.78 where Christianity is more naked than ever before. 00:10:43.79\00:10:48.11 The Lord is saying the problem with that is they're naked. 00:10:48.12\00:10:51.45 They're wretched. They're miserable. 00:10:51.46\00:10:53.16 They're poor. They're blind, 00:10:53.17\00:10:55.06 but they don't even know it. Right. 00:10:55.07\00:10:56.82 So the substitutes make them think 00:10:56.83\00:10:59.33 that somehow these substitutes are good enough 00:10:59.34\00:11:02.67 to take the place of what the Lord really requires. Yeah. 00:11:02.68\00:11:05.83 The other verse that comes to mind 00:11:05.84\00:11:07.14 is from Second Timothy Chapter 3:1 through 4. 00:11:07.15\00:11:11.31 It says--oh, 1 through 5. 00:11:11.32\00:11:14.30 But know this that in the last days 00:11:14.31\00:11:15.89 perilous times will come. 00:11:15.90\00:11:17.18 For men will be lovers of themselves. 00:11:17.19\00:11:19.88 And it goes through a list of things here, 00:11:19.89\00:11:21.40 lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, 00:11:21.41\00:11:23.89 disobedient to parents, various things. 00:11:23.90\00:11:26.19 But then he gets down to verse 5--verse 4, 00:11:26.20\00:11:30.10 lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. 00:11:30.11\00:11:33.31 See they don't love God, 00:11:33.32\00:11:36.23 although they're taking on the name of God 00:11:36.24\00:11:38.23 and we know that because verse 5 says 00:11:38.24\00:11:39.78 having a form of Godliness, 00:11:39.79\00:11:42.25 which I would suggest is simply the name. 00:11:42.26\00:11:45.13 That's another good one. That's a very good one. 00:11:45.14\00:11:46.86 But denying its power. 00:11:46.87\00:11:48.12 So they don't want-- they want the name, 00:11:48.13\00:11:50.27 but they don't want to be transformed 00:11:50.28\00:11:52.08 into the likeness of Christ 00:11:52.09\00:11:54.14 and I think that's one of the reasons 00:11:54.15\00:11:55.62 why we've got a program we're gonna do here soon. 00:11:55.63\00:11:59.53 Not today, but coming up here 00:11:59.54\00:12:01.36 on what salvation really means. That's right. 00:12:01.37\00:12:03.56 It's not only the--taking the name of Christ, 00:12:03.57\00:12:06.34 the imputed righteousness of Christ, 00:12:06.35\00:12:08.81 but Christ imparting to us his likeness, 00:12:08.82\00:12:11.38 his righteousness, transforming our lives. 00:12:11.39\00:12:14.12 That's a part of the salvation experience. 00:12:14.13\00:12:16.49 And so it's so essential to recognize that, 00:12:16.50\00:12:18.55 that part is needed in our lives 00:12:18.56\00:12:21.45 as we prepare for his return to entering to glory. 00:12:21.46\00:12:25.29 You find that the reason 00:12:25.30\00:12:26.44 why a lot of these things exists, 00:12:26.45\00:12:27.60 because we're living in an age of substitutes. 00:12:27.61\00:12:29.57 And we think about it, John, I remember not many years ago, 00:12:29.58\00:12:33.02 I did a sermon and I did some comparisons between, 00:12:33.03\00:12:38.42 you know, a rhinestone and a diamond, 00:12:38.43\00:12:41.42 a leather and pleather. 00:12:41.43\00:12:43.83 And we're living in an age where things look genuine, 00:12:43.84\00:12:47.30 but they're not really made. 00:12:47.31\00:12:48.81 And if you get close enough, 00:12:48.82\00:12:50.74 you see this on the label, manmade material. 00:12:50.75\00:12:55.23 And there is a lot of manmade religion today. 00:12:55.24\00:12:58.45 A lot of manmade substitutes 00:12:58.46\00:13:00.07 under the guise of Christianity. 00:13:00.08\00:13:01.80 You go to various churches around the world 00:13:01.81\00:13:03.48 and lot of things are manmade. 00:13:03.49\00:13:05.44 Well, the problem with that is they may feel-- 00:13:05.45\00:13:07.85 they may make you feel like the real thing 00:13:07.86\00:13:10.58 would make you feel, but in fact it's a substitute 00:13:10.59\00:13:12.90 when you go down to the base of it. 00:13:12.91\00:13:15.04 So the point is this, you cannot base 00:13:15.05\00:13:18.04 your experience on what it feels like. Right. 00:13:18.05\00:13:21.02 Because there are sometimes synthetic leather 00:13:21.03\00:13:24.37 may feel at the beginning like real leather, 00:13:24.38\00:13:27.67 but we all know that synthetic leather will not stretch. 00:13:27.68\00:13:30.67 It won't stand the test of time. 00:13:30.68\00:13:32.12 Okay, say that again. 00:13:32.13\00:13:34.00 It won't stand the test of time. 00:13:34.01\00:13:35.33 It won't-- It will fail. 00:13:35.34\00:13:36.69 That's a very good comparison. 00:13:36.70\00:13:38.42 Manmade things do not stand the test of time. 00:13:38.43\00:13:41.70 They cannot take the scuffing and the buffing 00:13:41.71\00:13:44.31 because what happens is you know right away 00:13:44.32\00:13:46.48 when you go through a difficulty. 00:13:46.49\00:13:47.75 You hit that shoe and scrape that manmade material 00:13:47.76\00:13:51.60 you can fix that like you can buff out and fix leather. 00:13:51.61\00:13:54.19 Yeah. Very true. 00:13:54.20\00:13:55.94 So-- Good question. 00:13:55.95\00:13:57.72 You find that, that way. 00:13:57.73\00:13:59.07 From Larissa. She is from Germany. 00:13:59.08\00:14:00.87 Thank you. Good question from Germany. 00:14:00.88\00:14:02.22 That's a good one, manmade material. 00:14:02.23\00:14:05.13 I'm gonna read a comment here 00:14:05.14\00:14:06.28 and I'm gonna let you go to the question next 00:14:06.29\00:14:07.72 because we've some wonderful things 00:14:07.73\00:14:08.91 to cover in the program. 00:14:08.92\00:14:10.10 The question I'm gonna read right after you 00:14:10.11\00:14:11.57 do your next one is gonna segue us into the program. 00:14:11.58\00:14:14.50 But, thank you, Michael. 00:14:14.51\00:14:17.34 Michael, I won't give the last name 00:14:17.35\00:14:18.80 because there are lot of Michael's out there, 00:14:18.81\00:14:21.34 but you know who you are. 00:14:21.35\00:14:22.54 Thank you for this wonderful comment. 00:14:22.55\00:14:23.78 It says, I would to congratulate you John 00:14:23.79\00:14:28.09 and John for presenting such an interesting program. 00:14:28.10\00:14:31.51 You could tell he's not from America. 00:14:31.52\00:14:32.80 He spells with M-M-E. 00:14:32.81\00:14:35.70 I'm not an STA yet, but I'm a Bible lover 00:14:35.71\00:14:40.58 and I like to see different points of you 00:14:40.59\00:14:42.45 on several subjects, although 00:14:42.46\00:14:45.60 I might not agree with all of your conclusions. 00:14:45.61\00:14:48.58 I do not have a question for this letter, 00:14:48.59\00:14:52.07 but I will be getting in touch again soon. 00:14:52.08\00:14:55.10 Keep up the good work. 00:14:55.11\00:14:56.91 Christian love to you both. Bro, Mike. 00:14:56.92\00:14:59.77 Thank you, Bro Mike. 00:14:59.78\00:15:01.96 The nice thing about that is that this Mike, 00:15:01.97\00:15:05.13 this man really is open to the word. 00:15:05.14\00:15:07.41 He talks about loving the Bible. 00:15:07.42\00:15:09.08 Open to hearing God's voice 00:15:09.09\00:15:10.79 and I think the recognition that we do the same. 00:15:10.80\00:15:14.51 We love to read the word of God 00:15:14.52\00:15:17.19 and we're open to His reading 00:15:17.20\00:15:19.54 and that's really all that the Lord asked for. 00:15:19.55\00:15:22.20 Truly. It's for us to listen. Yeah. 00:15:22.21\00:15:24.33 Truly thank you for that comment. 00:15:24.34\00:15:25.50 This question is similar to what your transitional 00:15:25.51\00:15:28.58 question is going to be. Okay. 00:15:28.59\00:15:29.85 That's why I thought I would read this well. 00:15:29.86\00:15:31.24 How do you know my transitional question is gonna be? 00:15:31.25\00:15:33.04 Because I may have talked about it 00:15:33.05\00:15:34.66 with you in advance. Okay. 00:15:34.67\00:15:38.25 We don't do a lot of planning, 00:15:38.26\00:15:40.42 but we do talk a little bit before. 00:15:40.43\00:15:42.19 Okay. Okay, here we go. 00:15:42.20\00:15:43.60 House calls, if I see an error in the church, 00:15:43.61\00:15:47.75 what should I do in light of Revelation 18:14. 00:15:47.76\00:15:51.39 I listen to Doug Banister's sermon on the 144,000. 00:15:51.40\00:15:55.93 And he talks about that being a literal number. 00:15:55.94\00:15:58.25 I studied it with the BRI, 00:15:58.26\00:16:01.09 Biblical Research Institute says on the same subject. 00:16:01.10\00:16:04.30 They say it's symbolic. 00:16:04.31\00:16:05.98 I always believe the number is literal. 00:16:05.99\00:16:07.80 Why are we not believing and preaching 00:16:07.81\00:16:09.60 the same thing at this late hour? 00:16:09.61\00:16:11.71 When are we gonna be in one accord? 00:16:11.72\00:16:14.38 Essentially, John, this subject, 00:16:14.39\00:16:16.32 Sister White actually spoke directly on. 00:16:16.33\00:16:18.68 The 144,000 issue, so I wrote down here 00:16:18.69\00:16:24.46 if I could find it. I wrote down here. 00:16:24.47\00:16:29.25 Real quickly if I could see. Here we are. 00:16:29.26\00:16:32.10 Just a quote, this is from Selected Messages page 174. 00:16:32.11\00:16:35.23 She says, we're not to enter into controversy over this 00:16:35.24\00:16:38.41 who can price this number. Okay. 00:16:38.42\00:16:40.88 The 144,000 will be discussed, 00:16:40.89\00:16:43.02 but we're not to enter into controversy over it. 00:16:43.03\00:16:45.50 So, we're to agree to disagree on this kind of subject 00:16:45.51\00:16:48.45 and I think she says that about various subjects 00:16:48.46\00:16:51.38 that are not salvific issues. 00:16:51.39\00:16:53.97 Not issues that are going 00:16:53.98\00:16:55.86 to save or lose somebody in the kingdom. 00:16:55.87\00:17:00.56 And so when you're talking about some of these things, 00:17:00.57\00:17:02.59 there just are certain topics 00:17:02.60\00:17:05.52 that we're not going to entirely agree upon. Right. 00:17:05.53\00:17:09.24 But those things we're not to argue about, 00:17:09.25\00:17:11.42 but we're to link together 00:17:11.43\00:17:12.72 and still work for the kingdom of God 00:17:12.73\00:17:14.24 because the essentials, salvation through Christ, 00:17:14.25\00:17:18.36 the salvation experience that we all have, 00:17:18.37\00:17:20.73 justification, sanctification, issues involving 00:17:20.74\00:17:24.28 the Ten Commandments, the pillar issues. Right. 00:17:24.29\00:17:27.16 Those are the issues we cannot divide on. 00:17:27.17\00:17:29.27 We need to unite on. 00:17:29.28\00:17:30.86 And in those cases I would say if they come up 00:17:30.87\00:17:32.89 and you're finding error in the church, 00:17:32.90\00:17:35.39 the place of the thing to follow would be Matthew 18. 00:17:35.40\00:17:39.05 You know go and talk to the person 00:17:39.06\00:17:40.36 who may have shared that, 00:17:40.37\00:17:41.36 then go beyond that and bring a couple with the individual. 00:17:41.37\00:17:44.38 Then you go beyond that and maybe it comes 00:17:44.39\00:17:45.95 before the church and the conference might get involved. 00:17:45.96\00:17:48.68 So there's a multitude of counselors 00:17:48.69\00:17:51.08 involved in the situation. 00:17:51.09\00:17:52.97 But the worst thing I think we can do, 00:17:52.98\00:17:54.75 John, and you know this as well as 00:17:54.76\00:17:56.03 a pastor is to--to talk about it quietly behind the scenes. 00:17:56.04\00:18:01.58 To criticize and to begin to rally the troops 00:18:01.59\00:18:04.67 against before that person even realizes what's happening, 00:18:04.68\00:18:07.96 then you create division in the church, 00:18:07.97\00:18:10.04 something that does not please the Lord. 00:18:10.05\00:18:12.10 I call that Christian, a termite Christian. 00:18:12.11\00:18:15.29 You don't see them, 00:18:15.30\00:18:16.67 but they silently are chewing you away 00:18:16.68\00:18:19.24 and before you know they're trying to work 00:18:19.25\00:18:21.24 on your demise, to bring you down. 00:18:21.25\00:18:23.32 They're working around you to bring you down. 00:18:23.33\00:18:25.00 And so the Lord does not want us to do that, 00:18:25.01\00:18:26.43 but He does want us to whatever you do, 00:18:26.44\00:18:28.63 whenever you confront an issue 00:18:28.64\00:18:30.30 or whenever you talk about an issue, 00:18:30.31\00:18:31.91 talk about it in love and in the word of God. 00:18:31.92\00:18:35.88 Some individuals are not very comfortable 00:18:35.89\00:18:38.31 discussing matters in the Bible 00:18:38.32\00:18:39.73 that they may not understand, but if you allow the Bible 00:18:39.74\00:18:42.22 to be the rule of faith and practice, 00:18:42.23\00:18:44.26 then you don't have to worry about being in controversy. 00:18:44.27\00:18:46.58 Because there's no way, John, 00:18:46.59\00:18:47.92 we could look at the same map. 00:18:47.93\00:18:49.76 And decide if the map is going to be our guide 00:18:49.77\00:18:53.74 then we allow the map 00:18:53.75\00:18:54.79 to be the determining factor in our direction. 00:18:54.80\00:18:58.73 But, you know, there are lots of different schools of-- 00:18:58.74\00:19:01.89 I'll not use word schools of thought, 00:19:01.90\00:19:03.31 that's a misleading term. 00:19:03.32\00:19:05.30 There are lots of individuals 00:19:05.31\00:19:06.47 that would have a preference for to be a literal number 00:19:06.48\00:19:11.12 and some would say I need this to be a symbolic number, 00:19:11.13\00:19:14.56 because maybe their lifestyles are not in harmony 00:19:14.57\00:19:17.40 that they feel they're worthy of being 00:19:17.41\00:19:19.16 in the 144,000. Yeah. 00:19:19.17\00:19:22.17 But when you look at the Bible, 00:19:22.18\00:19:23.56 you know, you find in Revelation 7, 00:19:23.57\00:19:26.60 the number is heard in Revelation 14, 00:19:26.61\00:19:29.22 the number is seen. 00:19:29.23\00:19:31.34 And one of the controversies is that some individuals say, 00:19:31.35\00:19:35.61 well, why's it that every number 00:19:35.62\00:19:36.97 in Revelation is a literal number except that one. 00:19:36.98\00:19:39.96 And why would it be mentioned in comparison to a number, 00:19:39.97\00:19:42.73 which no one could number 00:19:42.74\00:19:44.40 if it didn't have some significance. 00:19:44.41\00:19:45.94 Yeah. So-- 00:19:45.95\00:19:47.22 You know, I think the most damaging thing with regard 00:19:47.23\00:19:49.74 to any teaching or discussion on this issue 00:19:49.75\00:19:51.68 is not so much the literal versus symbolic. Right. 00:19:51.69\00:19:54.69 You and I have a strong opinion. 00:19:54.70\00:19:55.85 We also believe that it's a literal number, 00:19:55.86\00:19:58.38 but it's the role of 144,000. 00:19:58.39\00:20:02.45 That's the most important thing-- 00:20:02.46\00:20:03.46 I think that's the important thing to understand 00:20:03.47\00:20:05.63 when you're reading the book of Revelation 00:20:05.64\00:20:07.07 is what is the role of 144,000 in the last days? 00:20:07.08\00:20:10.59 What are they doing? What message are they preaching? 00:20:10.60\00:20:12.89 And what is their character like? 00:20:12.90\00:20:15.26 That is so much more important than concluding 00:20:15.27\00:20:18.80 whether or not it's literal or symbolic, 00:20:18.81\00:20:20.16 I mean, wouldn't you agree? 00:20:20.17\00:20:21.35 Yes. If you live the life as one person may say, 00:20:21.36\00:20:24.68 and I use a comparison that some of us may be able to grab, 00:20:24.69\00:20:28.43 if somebody said, well, I want to be on 00:20:28.44\00:20:31.38 the Lakers Basketball Team 00:20:31.39\00:20:33.76 or rather than trying to figure out 00:20:33.77\00:20:35.82 everything about them without even knowing 00:20:35.83\00:20:38.74 how to play the game would be of no value. Right. 00:20:38.75\00:20:41.71 You could buy the uniform. 00:20:41.72\00:20:42.74 You could move to where they all live. 00:20:42.75\00:20:45.11 You can hangout on the stadium 00:20:45.12\00:20:46.27 where they play the game, 00:20:46.28\00:20:47.40 but you've never played the game before. 00:20:47.41\00:20:49.20 In the same way, there are people 00:20:49.21\00:20:50.54 that like to hangout, where Christians hangout. 00:20:50.55\00:20:53.19 But they, and I'm gonna use this comparison loosely, 00:20:53.20\00:20:56.17 they're not in the Christian game 00:20:56.18\00:20:58.40 and I'm using that very loosely 00:20:58.41\00:20:59.90 because Christianity is not a game. 00:20:59.91\00:21:01.82 They're not in the Christian walk. 00:21:01.83\00:21:03.26 They're not living the life. 00:21:03.27\00:21:04.79 They're not exemplifying the things 00:21:04.80\00:21:06.60 that Christians exemplify. 00:21:06.61\00:21:08.77 So they're more concerned about that number. 00:21:08.78\00:21:10.44 Well, if it's a literal number, 00:21:10.45\00:21:11.51 then I know I can't make it. 00:21:11.52\00:21:12.91 But if it's a symbolic number, I feel I can make it. 00:21:12.92\00:21:15.25 The issue is look at the life. 00:21:15.26\00:21:17.66 The Bible makes it clear 00:21:17.67\00:21:18.66 that they follow the lamb wherever he went. 00:21:18.67\00:21:20.85 There was no guile on their mouth. 00:21:20.86\00:21:22.93 They were not defiled by other women meaning, 00:21:22.94\00:21:25.36 they were not defiled or misled by other doctrines. 00:21:25.37\00:21:28.14 So look at the life that they lived 00:21:28.15\00:21:30.27 and the bottom line is we can't determine 00:21:30.28\00:21:32.38 who's in it or who's out. That's God's determination. 00:21:32.39\00:21:34.68 And the other thing too is that 00:21:34.69\00:21:37.25 we can know a lot about the Bible, 00:21:37.26\00:21:39.80 but we can be down right unchristian 00:21:39.81\00:21:41.52 in the way we share it. Yeah. 00:21:41.53\00:21:43.03 And that is what we find so much 00:21:43.04\00:21:44.69 that I think is reall a key to true 00:21:44.70\00:21:47.07 Christianity in the last days. 00:21:47.08\00:21:48.81 Yes, it's important to know the Bible 00:21:48.82\00:21:51.44 and to understand God's word, 00:21:51.45\00:21:53.75 but it's just as important to share in Christian love 00:21:53.76\00:21:58.89 and to always have an aura of mercy 00:21:58.90\00:22:03.66 extended to someone else. 00:22:03.67\00:22:05.08 Rachel and I've used this over and over again 00:22:05.09\00:22:06.98 extend mercy to others judge yourself. 00:22:06.99\00:22:09.41 We like to do the opposite. 00:22:09.42\00:22:11.12 I mean, we're naturally bent to do the opposite. 00:22:11.13\00:22:12.85 We want to judge others 00:22:12.86\00:22:14.43 and extend mercy to ourselves. Right. 00:22:14.44\00:22:16.58 But if we would just reverse 00:22:16.59\00:22:17.95 that and extend mercy to the other 00:22:17.96\00:22:20.01 and judge our own selves, order our own life, 00:22:20.02\00:22:22.06 and our own lifestyle in harmony 00:22:22.07\00:22:25.29 with what we read from God's word 00:22:25.30\00:22:26.73 and extend the mercy for others to do the same 00:22:26.74\00:22:28.68 that Holy Spirit's working on them--Right. 00:22:28.69\00:22:30.99 We would be a whole much better off with criticism 00:22:31.00\00:22:34.93 and attacking each other and so forth. 00:22:34.94\00:22:37.34 That just--it's very sad to see that spirit come out 00:22:37.35\00:22:40.79 amongst those who know much 00:22:40.80\00:22:43.28 who are blessed by the knowledge of God's word. 00:22:43.29\00:22:45.79 You just made a point that I just caught here 00:22:45.80\00:22:49.89 when you say the spirit 00:22:49.90\00:22:51.23 and I want to just talk about this for a brief moment 00:22:51.24\00:22:52.79 because there are some people 00:22:52.80\00:22:53.93 that don't have the Christian spirit. 00:22:53.94\00:22:56.70 But much of their experience is about feeling. 00:22:56.71\00:23:01.26 Let me use a present atmosphere in the church 00:23:01.27\00:23:03.78 that's kind of-- it's a divisive atmosphere. 00:23:03.79\00:23:06.18 It's a divisive issue. 00:23:06.19\00:23:07.98 Lot of people right now are more concerned about 00:23:07.99\00:23:10.77 how they feel rather than 00:23:10.78\00:23:12.88 what is exactly happening in their congregation. 00:23:12.89\00:23:15.87 And there's a big issue 00:23:15.88\00:23:17.58 and I'm gonna make it clear 00:23:17.59\00:23:18.62 whether the congregation is West Indian 00:23:18.63\00:23:21.35 or African-American, or Caucasian, 00:23:21.36\00:23:23.79 or Hispanic, or European, in many congregations, 00:23:23.80\00:23:29.78 I'm speaking of here in the United States. 00:23:29.79\00:23:31.48 I don't know if this is around the world, 00:23:31.49\00:23:32.70 but maybe it is. 00:23:32.71\00:23:34.12 There's a big issue over music 00:23:34.13\00:23:39.15 and the people that are on differing sides are sometimes 00:23:39.16\00:23:43.12 very adversarial against each other. 00:23:43.13\00:23:45.88 Almost to the point of arguing 00:23:45.89\00:23:50.12 and causing division in our-- 00:23:50.13\00:23:52.30 It does. It breaks churches apart. 00:23:52.31\00:23:53.91 They separate over the issue. 00:23:53.92\00:23:55.26 And they're more concerned about, 00:23:55.27\00:23:57.50 and I'm gonna use this loose phrase, 00:23:57.51\00:23:58.56 getting their praise on, then living to the praise 00:23:58.57\00:24:01.14 and honor and glory of God. Yeah. 00:24:01.15\00:24:03.13 And many other churches are being molded 00:24:03.14\00:24:04.77 and shaped by music from churches 00:24:04.78\00:24:07.47 that don't have an understanding of the truth 00:24:07.48\00:24:09.16 that we have. Yeah. 00:24:09.17\00:24:10.26 So they go to those churches to get their praise on, 00:24:10.27\00:24:12.67 and I use that phrase loosely. 00:24:12.68\00:24:14.53 On Sunday, they go there to join with people 00:24:14.54\00:24:17.63 that don't have an understanding 00:24:17.64\00:24:18.91 of the truth that they have. 00:24:18.92\00:24:20.58 But they go there because the music is drawing them. 00:24:20.59\00:24:23.43 And I would say in that sense, 00:24:23.44\00:24:25.64 I could see Satan's hand behind that. 00:24:25.65\00:24:28.82 But let's go to the opposite side because, 00:24:28.83\00:24:30.24 John, I think we mentioned this before we went on the air. 00:24:30.25\00:24:32.33 And I want you to speak to this issue. 00:24:32.34\00:24:33.80 They're those who are extreme in another area. 00:24:33.81\00:24:37.08 Talk about that for a moment. Yeah, you have both sides. 00:24:37.09\00:24:39.45 You have they're getting their praise on. 00:24:39.46\00:24:41.35 You know, they want to go find the music, the entertainment-- 00:24:41.36\00:24:43.46 Get loose so to speak. The entertainment really 00:24:43.47\00:24:45.95 that their church isn't offering. 00:24:45.96\00:24:47.88 And then, there are others 00:24:47.89\00:24:49.03 who leave for the opposite reason. 00:24:49.04\00:24:52.97 The ultra conservative, all they want to do 00:24:52.98\00:24:56.39 is talk about prophecy, the Lord coming, 00:24:56.40\00:24:59.53 which is a good topic, 00:24:59.54\00:25:00.79 but in conjunction with prophecy, 00:25:00.80\00:25:02.91 what we need to be doing to be holy 00:25:02.92\00:25:05.00 or to get ready to live 00:25:05.01\00:25:06.43 before God without a mediator. 00:25:06.44\00:25:08.25 And I also say that loosely too 00:25:08.26\00:25:09.81 because these are good things. 00:25:09.82\00:25:12.62 But they will leave the church 00:25:12.63\00:25:14.62 because they don't believe the others 00:25:14.63\00:25:16.02 in the church are where they are. 00:25:16.03\00:25:18.12 The critical nature. And that will divide as well. 00:25:18.13\00:25:20.47 So instead of, you know, 00:25:20.48\00:25:21.98 this music has got too much beat, 00:25:21.99\00:25:23.45 I got-- or no, 00:25:23.46\00:25:25.25 this music doesn't have enough liveliness. 00:25:25.26\00:25:27.54 I got to find go somewhere to find it. 00:25:27.55\00:25:29.85 This church, although there's a little bit of beat in it, 00:25:29.86\00:25:31.62 they're doing stuff that I don't appreciate, 00:25:31.63\00:25:33.30 I'm gonna find this ultraconservative gathering 00:25:33.31\00:25:36.56 and I use that term because that's the only way 00:25:36.57\00:25:38.77 we've to define it at this point. 00:25:38.78\00:25:40.32 You know, fanatical really 00:25:40.33\00:25:41.70 as what Sister White uses fanaticism. 00:25:41.71\00:25:43.67 In both camps. In both camps. 00:25:43.68\00:25:46.01 And, you know, she talks about 00:25:46.02\00:25:47.69 staying in the middle of the road. 00:25:47.70\00:25:49.62 If you've got a cold formality fanaticism, legalism, 00:25:49.63\00:25:54.85 that's just as damaging as going off the deep end 00:25:54.86\00:25:57.98 and having this celebration kind of thing, 00:25:57.99\00:26:01.34 that we find is going on and a note on that. 00:26:01.35\00:26:03.59 There were so many red flags that went up 00:26:05.59\00:26:06.92 about this celebration movement. 00:26:06.93\00:26:08.99 Realize that, that with an Adventism 00:26:09.00\00:26:10.66 never really took strong root. 00:26:10.67\00:26:12.38 Do you notice that? Do you remember 00:26:12.39\00:26:13.54 this about 10-15 years ago? 00:26:13.55\00:26:14.95 Ahh. Yeah. 00:26:14.96\00:26:16.25 And what is happening? 00:26:16.26\00:26:17.38 Oh my goodness, this is going to become a celebration church 00:26:17.39\00:26:19.94 and I probably along with you 00:26:19.95\00:26:21.89 and other pastors were saying just wait, 00:26:21.90\00:26:24.46 don't panic, and relax. 00:26:24.47\00:26:26.39 Stay with your principles. 00:26:26.40\00:26:28.11 We're staying balanced. 00:26:28.12\00:26:29.55 You know what, that never really took off. 00:26:29.56\00:26:32.02 It was just not the Adventist way 00:26:32.03\00:26:33.88 and it just never took off. 00:26:33.89\00:26:35.71 But Satan is so classically, instrumental in getting people 00:26:35.72\00:26:38.68 that have the right message to argue, 00:26:38.69\00:26:40.92 and fuss, and fight amongst themselves. 00:26:40.93\00:26:43.05 So they become suspicious of each other. 00:26:43.06\00:26:44.81 I remember very carefully, you know, 00:26:44.82\00:26:46.68 being videotaped by people. 00:26:46.69\00:26:48.46 They'll come to the churches and videotape. 00:26:48.47\00:26:50.04 Or they go to camp meetings and videotape 00:26:50.05\00:26:51.56 and before you know it, 00:26:51.57\00:26:52.71 these videotapes have been duplicated 00:26:52.72\00:26:55.47 in multiple amounts and spread all over 00:26:55.48\00:26:57.63 and you've been eternally labeled as apostatizing 00:26:57.64\00:27:03.78 and there's some people that are so terrified. 00:27:03.79\00:27:05.39 And I'll just kind of wind this topic up here. 00:27:05.40\00:27:07.72 There's some people that are terrified 00:27:07.73\00:27:08.93 of any rhythm at all, 00:27:08.94\00:27:10.47 and there's some people that are examiners of rhythm, 00:27:10.48\00:27:13.00 you know, is it the first and third beat 00:27:13.01\00:27:14.40 or the second and the fourth beat. 00:27:14.41\00:27:16.46 And then those who just say well it 00:27:16.47\00:27:18.23 can have any beat whatsoever and so these-- 00:27:18.24\00:27:20.71 And there are other people that say it does not matter 00:27:20.72\00:27:22.12 what you listen to which we would disagree 00:27:22.13\00:27:23.82 with as well. Right. Exactly. 00:27:23.83\00:27:25.46 So all these camps are focusing around something 00:27:25.47\00:27:28.18 that is really that could hinder 00:27:28.19\00:27:31.16 and steal away your salvation 00:27:31.17\00:27:33.00 when you become an extremist. 00:27:33.01\00:27:34.93 The Lord is not saying become so wishy-washy 00:27:34.94\00:27:38.16 that it doesn't really matter to you. 00:27:38.17\00:27:39.78 Let your righteousness 00:27:39.79\00:27:41.01 and your walk with Christ matter. 00:27:41.02\00:27:42.85 And in the area of preference, 00:27:42.86\00:27:45.17 prefer the other above yourself 00:27:45.18\00:27:47.47 and let the Lord lead you. 00:27:47.48\00:27:49.14 But here is what we should never do. 00:27:49.15\00:27:51.38 Matthew 13 verse 29 and verse 30. 00:27:51.39\00:27:55.23 Let me just wind this up on this topic 00:27:55.24\00:27:56.94 and Jesus addressing His disciples 00:27:56.95\00:28:00.12 because the Lord made it clear that the tears were there 00:28:00.13\00:28:02.10 because the enemy came and sow them. 00:28:02.11\00:28:04.39 But Jesus says no, 00:28:04.40\00:28:06.47 lest while you gather up the tares, 00:28:06.48\00:28:08.33 you also root up the wheat with them. 00:28:08.34\00:28:10.88 Let both grow together until the harvest, 00:28:10.89\00:28:13.90 and at that time I will say to the reapers, 00:28:13.91\00:28:16.00 first gather together the tares, 00:28:16.01\00:28:17.53 and bind them in bundles to burn them, 00:28:17.54\00:28:19.78 but gather the wheat into my barn. 00:28:19.79\00:28:21.98 The Lord is gonna allow the wheat and tare to go together. 00:28:21.99\00:28:24.95 He's gonna do the sifting. 00:28:24.96\00:28:26.30 He's gonna do the shaking. 00:28:26.31\00:28:27.98 And those who are walking in the righteousness 00:28:27.99\00:28:30.59 of Jesus will be gathered into his barn. 00:28:30.60\00:28:33.51 We're not to try and determine 00:28:33.52\00:28:34.95 which are wheat and which are tares. 00:28:34.96\00:28:36.20 You know, we're not to keep on saying, oh, I'm a weed. 00:28:36.21\00:28:38.05 They are tare, but I got to hangout with them. 00:28:38.06\00:28:41.60 That's not what He's saying. Not at all. 00:28:41.61\00:28:42.95 He's saying don't worry about the wheat 00:28:42.96\00:28:44.52 and tare issue. That's right. 00:28:44.53\00:28:45.90 He said that's not the issue 00:28:45.91\00:28:46.90 that you're concerned with because 00:28:46.91\00:28:48.33 you can't say them anyway. That's right. 00:28:48.34\00:28:50.01 And I'm gonna go ahead and windup 00:28:50.02\00:28:51.58 the question section here. 00:28:51.59\00:28:52.68 And--because the next thing 00:28:52.69\00:28:53.87 I read is gonna be a segue into our topic today. 00:28:53.88\00:28:57.09 And so if you've any questions or comments 00:28:57.10\00:28:58.83 you would like to send to us about something 00:28:58.84\00:29:00.82 we may have said today, 00:29:00.83\00:29:02.07 you may be in one of those camps, 00:29:02.08\00:29:04.14 doesn't really matter. 00:29:04.15\00:29:05.60 It does matter to you so send 00:29:05.61\00:29:07.07 the questions to housecalls@3abn.org. 00:29:07.08\00:29:10.97 That's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:29:10.98\00:29:14.44 And we appreciate anything you send. 00:29:14.45\00:29:16.94 Thank you so much for being so faithful. 00:29:16.95\00:29:19.48 Now this question, John, 00:29:19.49\00:29:20.63 that I mentioned was gonna be a segue question 00:29:20.64\00:29:23.43 is one that, you know, 00:29:23.44\00:29:25.06 word segue is a huge word in the minds of some, 00:29:25.07\00:29:27.00 but it's just a little tiny word. 00:29:27.01\00:29:29.28 What it means is this is an issue 00:29:29.29\00:29:32.05 that is less of an issue of non-salvation, 00:29:32.06\00:29:38.07 but this is an issue of end time events. 00:29:38.08\00:29:41.57 This is an issue that has come up time and time again 00:29:41.58\00:29:44.69 and we have chosen at various intervals 00:29:44.70\00:29:47.43 not to read this on the air 00:29:47.44\00:29:48.85 because people have said, 00:29:48.86\00:29:49.86 well, you know, when you start talking about that, 00:29:49.87\00:29:52.81 you're gonna cause people to wonder 00:29:52.82\00:29:54.77 and people are gonna be divided. 00:29:54.78\00:29:56.78 Well, you know, hey, 00:29:56.79\00:29:58.57 if the word of God divides in order for us 00:29:58.58\00:30:00.33 to get to the point of truth and understanding, 00:30:00.34\00:30:01.88 then allow the word of God to do the dividing. 00:30:01.89\00:30:04.93 But allow the word of God also to do the mending 00:30:04.94\00:30:07.50 and that's where we're headed with this topic. 00:30:07.51\00:30:09.90 Gentleman wrote a question here 00:30:09.91\00:30:12.18 and very unique name Sineli, 00:30:12.19\00:30:15.87 S-I-N-E-L-I definitely not an American name, 00:30:15.88\00:30:20.96 but he says, I, believe me, 00:30:20.97\00:30:23.10 and many others who watch this program 00:30:23.11\00:30:25.67 really appreciate the great work you 00:30:25.68\00:30:27.60 and the other guys behind are doing. 00:30:27.61\00:30:31.04 May the almighty continue to bless you. 00:30:31.05\00:30:34.69 I do have this issue, which is confusing me 00:30:34.70\00:30:37.64 because of the different interpretations going around. 00:30:37.65\00:30:41.79 Please may you help me with the true 00:30:41.80\00:30:45.36 meaning of the seven trumpets and the seven seals? 00:30:45.37\00:30:48.38 Are they symbolic or are they literal? 00:30:48.39\00:30:51.55 If they're prophetic, may you give us 00:30:51.56\00:30:53.94 the true biblical meaning of these symbols? 00:30:53.95\00:30:57.91 Two huge topics. 00:30:57.92\00:30:59.93 The seals and the trumpets. Yeah. 00:30:59.94\00:31:02.94 And we're presently as a matter of fact 00:31:02.95\00:31:07.18 at our church studying the topic of-- 00:31:07.19\00:31:09.85 all the topics of Revelation. 00:31:09.86\00:31:11.48 We went past the seals already. 00:31:11.49\00:31:13.82 But now we're into the seven trumpets. 00:31:13.83\00:31:16.28 And there're some principles of interpretation 00:31:16.29\00:31:18.66 I want to share with you because, 00:31:18.67\00:31:20.81 you know, when you establish principles of interpretation, 00:31:20.82\00:31:24.60 you've less latitude to go on the wrong direction 00:31:24.61\00:31:28.12 and more latitude to go on the right direction 00:31:28.13\00:31:30.37 than you would the other way around. 00:31:30.38\00:31:32.58 We don't want to send anybody in the wrong direction, 00:31:32.59\00:31:34.84 but, John, one of the things 00:31:34.85\00:31:35.94 we do know is that whenever the Bible gives a symbol, 00:31:35.95\00:31:39.70 the Bible identifies and gives us an understanding 00:31:39.71\00:31:43.37 of what that symbol means. Let me use an example. 00:31:43.38\00:31:46.20 Let's start by going to the book of Daniel Chapter 7. 00:31:46.21\00:31:50.03 But maybe you wanna register 00:31:50.04\00:31:51.80 what I'm saying before you go-- No, no. 00:31:51.81\00:31:53.92 You're talking about a principle that really 00:31:53.93\00:31:55.86 is rooted in the history of the Adventist Church. 00:31:55.87\00:31:59.90 The Bible explains itself 00:31:59.91\00:32:01.55 and we must look elsewhere in the scripture 00:32:01.56\00:32:03.40 whenever a symbol or whenever something comes up, 00:32:03.41\00:32:07.12 a specific word, or symbol 00:32:07.13\00:32:09.45 whether it be symbolic or literal. 00:32:09.46\00:32:11.33 And we've got to connect it elsewhere in the Bible 00:32:11.34\00:32:13.40 to determine what that passage is really saying. 00:32:13.41\00:32:16.41 Matter of fact,Isaiah, the prophet says 00:32:16.42\00:32:17.92 line upon line-- That's right. 00:32:17.93\00:32:19.80 Line upon line, he reiterates precept on precept, 00:32:19.81\00:32:22.51 precept on precept, here a little and there a little. 00:32:22.52\00:32:25.47 He says to us if you want to find what something means, 00:32:25.48\00:32:27.61 let the Bible be the first place you go. 00:32:27.62\00:32:29.86 So that it would not be a private interpretation. 00:32:29.87\00:32:32.79 And so that's very, very vitally important for us 00:32:32.80\00:32:35.25 to understand that, but I did a study 00:32:35.26\00:32:38.62 and let me just share this principle also 00:32:38.63\00:32:40.51 because there was a symposium on Biblical Hermeneutics, 00:32:40.52\00:32:46.62 a whole lot of stuff to say Biblical Hermeneutics. 00:32:46.63\00:32:50.34 Simply meaning how the Bible is to be understood. 00:32:50.35\00:32:52.85 The processes we will use to get to the bottom line 00:32:52.86\00:32:56.99 of what this means or what it doesn't mean. 00:32:57.00\00:33:00.15 And in 1979, the Review & Herald, 00:33:00.16\00:33:04.79 under Gordon M. Hyde published this statement. 00:33:04.80\00:33:09.16 He says, every declaration of the scripture 00:33:09.17\00:33:11.40 is to be taken in the most obvious 00:33:11.41\00:33:14.22 and literal sense except where context 00:33:14.23\00:33:17.11 and the well-known laws of language 00:33:17.12\00:33:18.88 show that the terms are figurative and not literal. 00:33:18.89\00:33:22.36 And whatever is figurative must be explained 00:33:22.37\00:33:26.79 by other portions of the Bible, which are literal. 00:33:26.80\00:33:32.50 So--that seems pretty straightforward to me. 00:33:32.51\00:33:37.11 It's almost like literal first. Right. 00:33:37.12\00:33:39.85 You read it in this literal form first 00:33:39.86\00:33:41.88 and if it cannot be explained in a literal sense, 00:33:41.89\00:33:45.53 then you shift to the symbolic 00:33:45.54\00:33:47.55 and find through a repeat of where that occurs 00:33:47.56\00:33:50.33 elsewhere with the symbolic reference. 00:33:50.34\00:33:53.27 And in Daniel 7, I mentioned Daniel 7 00:33:53.28\00:33:55.46 before because Daniel 7 is a classic example. 00:33:55.47\00:33:57.93 Let's go there very quickly 00:33:57.94\00:33:59.55 and bringing my glasses out here. 00:33:59.56\00:34:02.67 Daniel 7, here I'm, right after Ezekiel, 00:34:02.68\00:34:11.38 Daniel Chapter 7, and I've a new Bible. 00:34:11.39\00:34:13.59 You know, I've the Remnant Special Forces Study Bible. 00:34:13.60\00:34:17.58 It's a new Bible. Special Forces. Yeah. 00:34:17.59\00:34:19.34 It's called the Special Forces 00:34:19.35\00:34:20.60 put up by Remnant Publications. 00:34:20.61\00:34:22.10 Great Bible. It's a nice one. 00:34:22.11\00:34:23.86 Okay, Daniel 7. 00:34:23.87\00:34:25.11 Daniel has a dream--Daniel has a dream of four beasts. 00:34:25.12\00:34:30.67 And we know, he dreams of the lion, 00:34:30.68\00:34:34.00 the bear, the leopard, and then, 00:34:34.01\00:34:36.85 he dreams of this great and dreadful terrible dragon 00:34:36.86\00:34:39.45 with seven heads and ten horns. 00:34:39.46\00:34:42.06 Well, Daniel not only has the dream, 00:34:42.07\00:34:45.64 but he starts giving the interpretation 00:34:45.65\00:34:48.81 and he says in Daniel, Chapter 7 and verse 23, 00:34:48.82\00:34:54.71 notice what he say, he gives the four beast, 00:34:54.72\00:34:57.50 but he says in verse 23. 00:34:57.51\00:34:59.76 The interpretation starts in 17. 00:34:59.77\00:35:01.85 Oh, okay. Let's go to 17. 00:35:01.86\00:35:02.97 So he told me and made known to me 00:35:02.98\00:35:04.79 the interpretation of these things. 00:35:04.80\00:35:06.58 Read verse 17. 00:35:06.59\00:35:07.79 So, verse 17 said, these great beasts, 00:35:07.80\00:35:10.21 which are four, are four kings, 00:35:10.22\00:35:13.12 which arise out of the earth. 00:35:13.13\00:35:15.12 So right of the way. 00:35:15.13\00:35:16.19 We know the explanation of the symbolic 00:35:16.20\00:35:17.84 reference of the beast means kings. Okay. 00:35:17.85\00:35:21.28 And so notice what we did. 00:35:21.29\00:35:22.68 We went to the Bible for the Bible 00:35:22.69\00:35:25.10 to explain the Bible. That's right. 00:35:25.11\00:35:26.72 So--and here's a good application 00:35:26.73\00:35:28.61 of what we just did that. 00:35:28.62\00:35:29.66 So when someone comes to you and says, 00:35:29.67\00:35:33.03 oh, I noticed on your car, it says 666, 00:35:33.04\00:35:35.39 oh, that's the mark of the beast. 00:35:35.40\00:35:36.91 Or someone comes to you and says, 00:35:36.92\00:35:38.24 you know what, I think the beast is this big machine. 00:35:38.25\00:35:41.20 That's going--they're gonna microchip everybody 00:35:41.21\00:35:43.23 and they're gonna have your records in this big machine. 00:35:43.24\00:35:45.31 And there's gonna be a huge computer. 00:35:45.32\00:35:46.63 And-- I mean all these things that have come up 00:35:46.64\00:35:48.62 over the years you've heard them all. Oh, yeah. 00:35:48.63\00:35:50.92 You can know by what we just did 00:35:50.93\00:35:53.42 hermeneutically with good basic hermeneutic principles 00:35:53.43\00:35:58.09 that it cannot be because the beast means king. Right. 00:35:58.10\00:36:02.83 Or as you read further down in verse 23, 00:36:02.84\00:36:04.97 the fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom 00:36:04.98\00:36:07.29 on the earth. That's right. 00:36:07.30\00:36:08.51 So the reference there is it's a king first, 00:36:08.52\00:36:11.00 but the king with a kingdom 00:36:11.01\00:36:12.47 is the essential part. Right. 00:36:12.48\00:36:14.62 So it's a king that has a kingdom. Right. 00:36:14.63\00:36:17.61 But also could mean either thing. 00:36:17.62\00:36:19.99 So when a beast, you know, 00:36:20.00\00:36:21.14 when it's talking about a beast, it could be talking 00:36:21.15\00:36:22.61 about the king or it could be talking about the kingdom. 00:36:22.62\00:36:25.48 So, you've to read into the context of what your, 00:36:25.49\00:36:28.37 you know, the passage you're reading 00:36:28.38\00:36:29.63 there to determine what it's talking about as well. 00:36:29.64\00:36:33.66 So 'cause context is very important. 00:36:33.67\00:36:36.24 Not just the symbol itself by itself. 00:36:36.25\00:36:38.41 You got to read in its context 00:36:38.42\00:36:39.98 that's what we're saying. Yeah. 00:36:39.99\00:36:41.36 And when Daniel-- even when Daniel 00:36:41.37\00:36:42.87 came to Nebuchadnezzar about Nebuchadnezzar's 00:36:42.88\00:36:44.67 dream the gold, the silver, the bronze, 00:36:44.68\00:36:46.99 the iron, the iron and clay. 00:36:47.00\00:36:48.89 He looked at Nebuchadnezzar and says 00:36:48.90\00:36:50.11 you're the head of gold. Head of gold, yeah. 00:36:50.12\00:36:52.25 So we knew right away 00:36:52.26\00:36:53.43 that if Nebuchadnezzar was that head of gold, 00:36:53.44\00:36:55.54 then the kingdom he was leading 00:36:55.55\00:36:56.77 was the kingdom of Babylon. 00:36:56.78\00:36:58.66 So we follow history and that's where 00:36:58.67\00:37:00.87 when you begin with the Bible 00:37:00.88\00:37:02.07 then you could segue into history. 00:37:02.08\00:37:04.00 You could make the comparisons 00:37:04.01\00:37:05.25 because now we could go on to history and say, okay, 00:37:05.26\00:37:07.22 what kind of kingdom was Babylon? 00:37:07.23\00:37:09.98 But the Bible gave us the catapult to start 00:37:09.99\00:37:13.11 on the scriptures then go outside of the Bible 00:37:13.12\00:37:15.49 to find the understanding of it. 00:37:15.50\00:37:17.22 And that's not doing any violence to the Bible at all. 00:37:17.23\00:37:19.26 Because to find out all about the antiquity kingdom-- 00:37:19.27\00:37:22.76 the antiquated kingdom of Babylon, 00:37:22.77\00:37:26.15 first we had to find that the Bible is identifying 00:37:26.16\00:37:28.26 that first kingdom as Babylon which surely it was. 00:37:28.27\00:37:31.12 And the Bible is full of history. Oh, yeah. 00:37:31.13\00:37:32.94 So when you're trying about going outside, I mean, 00:37:32.95\00:37:34.62 it's not even necessarily going outside of this, 00:37:34.63\00:37:36.67 but you're supplementing scriptural, 00:37:36.68\00:37:38.97 historical references with material 00:37:38.98\00:37:43.96 that is extra biblical material 00:37:43.97\00:37:45.53 that lines write in with what the Bible is telling you. 00:37:45.54\00:37:49.42 And even when we talk about Alexander the great, 00:37:49.43\00:37:53.60 the kingdom of--the king of Greece, 00:37:53.61\00:37:56.86 and I talk about how his kingdom fell. 00:37:56.87\00:37:59.34 The leopard with four heads and four wings, 00:37:59.35\00:38:01.47 but when we look at the kingdom 00:38:01.48\00:38:02.66 in history of how the kingdom of Greece fell 00:38:02.67\00:38:05.75 when Alexander the great died 00:38:05.76\00:38:08.65 it was broken up into four sections 00:38:08.66\00:38:10.31 and right away we see how history confirms 00:38:10.32\00:38:12.69 what the Bible already said was going to happen. 00:38:12.70\00:38:14.71 In fact, in Daniel, the first three beasts 00:38:14.72\00:38:17.67 that are all identified specifically 00:38:17.68\00:38:19.71 as you know the lion, the bear, 00:38:19.72\00:38:22.98 and the leopard are all identified by name 00:38:22.99\00:38:27.37 in Daniel as well. That's right. 00:38:27.38\00:38:29.35 Because it says specifically that Babylon is the first 00:38:29.36\00:38:33.26 and in Daniel Chapter 8 verses 20 and 21. 00:38:33.27\00:38:37.60 It says that it's Media Persia is the second 00:38:37.61\00:38:39.48 and the third one is Greece, 00:38:39.49\00:38:40.73 specifically naming them. Specifically. 00:38:40.74\00:38:43.13 So if you want to find out where that fourth beast is, 00:38:43.14\00:38:44.96 you've got to follow the line of kingdoms going down 00:38:44.97\00:38:47.61 through and who conquered Greece? 00:38:47.62\00:38:49.49 Rome. Exactly. 00:38:49.50\00:38:51.34 So the Bible, but you don't start outside 00:38:51.35\00:38:53.87 and try to find a way in. Right. 00:38:53.88\00:38:55.74 And the problem with many times 00:38:55.75\00:38:57.64 understanding or misunderstanding 00:38:57.65\00:38:58.98 prophecy is sometimes people start outside 00:38:58.99\00:39:01.76 and try to weave their way in. 00:39:01.77\00:39:04.16 It's like, it's easy to take a dollar bill 00:39:04.17\00:39:06.86 out of the stack of money 00:39:06.87\00:39:08.65 when it is tightly linked together 00:39:08.66\00:39:10.31 than it is to try to stick it in there. 00:39:10.32\00:39:12.89 You see and so many people try to force things to fit 00:39:12.90\00:39:15.71 certain ways and so this person's question was, 00:39:15.72\00:39:18.60 how do you see the trumpets fitting 00:39:18.61\00:39:21.41 into the picture of history or prophecy at all? 00:39:21.42\00:39:24.42 Well, I would say, 00:39:24.43\00:39:25.42 I've studied this for a number of years. 00:39:25.43\00:39:26.92 What you need to do is you need 00:39:26.93\00:39:27.99 to first start on the Bible. 00:39:28.00\00:39:29.50 The first and safest place to begin is in the Bible. 00:39:29.51\00:39:33.92 What are the various ways, what are the various pictures 00:39:33.93\00:39:37.46 the Bible gives about the use of a trumpet in the Bible. 00:39:37.47\00:39:41.46 Let's go ahead and start with the first one. 00:39:41.47\00:39:43.09 I want to start with John. 00:39:43.10\00:39:44.10 Let's go down to Revelation 1:10. 00:39:44.11\00:39:46.87 And we're gonna walk through very quickly 00:39:46.88\00:39:50.18 the Bible references and they're actually nine. 00:39:50.19\00:39:54.12 They're in fact nine references in the Bible 00:39:54.13\00:39:56.99 that would use and give us nine pictures 00:39:57.00\00:39:59.93 of how the trumpets are talked about in scripture. 00:39:59.94\00:40:03.07 Revelation 1 and verse 10 and John starts out 00:40:03.08\00:40:09.33 and makes it very clear to us what this first one is. 00:40:09.34\00:40:13.63 You know, John, when you talk little longer, 00:40:13.64\00:40:15.41 it's because you look up for the text. 00:40:15.42\00:40:18.02 Here it is. Listen. 00:40:18.03\00:40:20.26 I was in the spirit on the Lord's day, 00:40:20.27\00:40:22.98 and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet. 00:40:22.99\00:40:28.32 Well, that loud voice he heard, 00:40:28.33\00:40:31.25 who does the Bible describe that trumpet to be? 00:40:31.26\00:40:33.92 Look at the very next verse. 00:40:33.93\00:40:35.60 Now we could say that must have been a symbolic trumpet, 00:40:35.61\00:40:39.35 but what does that symbolic trumpet associate itself to. 00:40:39.36\00:40:43.22 Do you've verse 11? 00:40:43.23\00:40:44.23 Absolutely. Read it. Saying 00:40:44.24\00:40:45.39 I am the Alpha and the Omega, 00:40:45.40\00:40:47.38 the first and the last. 00:40:47.39\00:40:49.24 Okay, who is that? 00:40:49.25\00:40:50.49 That's Jesus. That's Jesus. 00:40:50.50\00:40:51.98 So, right away, the first application-- 00:40:51.99\00:40:54.24 the first application of a Bible trumpet 00:40:54.25\00:40:56.35 would be the voice of Jesus. 00:40:56.36\00:40:59.22 The voice of Jesus. 00:40:59.23\00:41:01.53 That's Revelation 1 and verse 10. 00:41:01.54\00:41:04.04 Then another one I'd like to use, 00:41:04.05\00:41:06.06 we'll go to is Isaiah 58 and verse 1. 00:41:06.07\00:41:11.39 Isaiah 58 and verse 1. 00:41:11.40\00:41:15.65 Okay, let's look at that one there. 00:41:15.66\00:41:17.19 I like the way these new Bibles turn. 00:41:20.40\00:41:22.39 The only problem with the new Bible John, 00:41:22.40\00:41:24.50 it doesn't have all our familial markings in it-- 00:41:24.51\00:41:27.40 That's why I'm so reluctant to change--change over. 00:41:27.41\00:41:29.98 This one just opens up to where I want it open up. 00:41:29.99\00:41:32.44 Mine--mine, I have it's so worked into, 00:41:32.45\00:41:35.72 but I've this new Bible. I want to try to find a way. 00:41:35.73\00:41:39.78 Good thing they are inanimate objects 00:41:39.79\00:41:41.36 because they'll feel abandoned. 00:41:41.37\00:41:43.41 But now go ahead and communicate to me 00:41:43.42\00:41:47.10 now the second application Isaiah 58 and verse 1. 00:41:47.11\00:41:50.78 Let's see what the Bible talks about here. 00:41:50.79\00:41:52.26 It says, cry aloud, spare not, 00:41:52.27\00:41:54.40 lift up your voice like a trumpet, 00:41:54.41\00:41:57.54 tell my people their transgression, 00:41:57.55\00:41:59.34 and the house of Jacob their sins. Okay. 00:41:59.35\00:42:01.55 In that sense, who is the one 00:42:01.56\00:42:03.97 that is told to lift up his voice as a trumpet? 00:42:03.98\00:42:07.37 The prophet. Okay. 00:42:07.38\00:42:08.63 And so those who are preaching 00:42:08.64\00:42:10.40 will use the broad statement here 00:42:10.41\00:42:12.26 that is the job of the minister. 00:42:12.27\00:42:13.92 That is the job of the one that God 00:42:13.93\00:42:15.26 calls to proclaim a message. 00:42:15.27\00:42:16.98 So in this second application, 00:42:16.99\00:42:19.20 we find that the voice talked about here is preaching it, 00:42:19.21\00:42:23.79 preaching it straight. Right. 00:42:23.80\00:42:25.95 The straight preaching, 00:42:25.96\00:42:27.23 the preaching of the gospel, the minister's job. 00:42:27.24\00:42:30.31 I've got to add the reference right on this too is that 00:42:30.32\00:42:32.41 if you look in the context of the seven trumpets anyway 00:42:32.42\00:42:35.93 you'll find in there a couple of words used several times. 00:42:35.94\00:42:41.18 My servants, the prophet. That's right. 00:42:41.19\00:42:45.12 So in the context of this voice being blown-- 00:42:45.13\00:42:48.03 this trumpet being blown, 00:42:48.04\00:42:50.06 there is the voice of God's servants 00:42:50.07\00:42:52.18 who are doing the work of a prophet. That's right. 00:42:52.19\00:42:55.50 So its right in line with how the prophet was to declare 00:42:55.51\00:42:59.57 or proclaim this trumpet message back in Isaiah's time. 00:42:59.58\00:43:03.12 Very good. That says good connection. 00:43:03.13\00:43:05.74 Very good connection. 00:43:05.75\00:43:06.88 So far we see, one, the voice of Jesus. 00:43:06.89\00:43:09.17 Secondly, the voice of the one Jesus calls, 00:43:09.18\00:43:11.48 the voice of the prophet or the preacher, 00:43:11.49\00:43:13.66 proclaiming the message, making it very, very clear 00:43:13.67\00:43:15.93 that he's pointing out transgressions and sin. 00:43:15.94\00:43:19.08 The difference between one and the other, 00:43:19.09\00:43:20.74 while they both can condemn you to lose your salvation, 00:43:20.75\00:43:24.09 one is something people refuse to let go off 00:43:24.10\00:43:26.13 and other one is people, something 00:43:26.14\00:43:27.78 that caused people to stumble periodically. 00:43:27.79\00:43:30.12 But that's the second application 00:43:30.13\00:43:31.75 of the use of trumpets. 00:43:31.76\00:43:33.14 But now let's go to the book of Ezekiel 33. 00:43:33.15\00:43:37.66 Ezekiel 33, and, you know, Ezekiel 33, John, 00:43:37.67\00:43:40.33 is almost a mirror of Ezekiel 18. 00:43:40.34\00:43:43.89 You always wonder why in such a large book, 00:43:43.90\00:43:46.54 why the prophet Ezekiel 00:43:48.52\00:43:51.60 decides to write it down twice. 00:43:51.61\00:43:55.11 Ezekiel 33, and let's go from verse 1:6. 00:43:55.12\00:44:04.23 I'll let you read that. Ezekiel 33, verse 1:6. 00:44:04.24\00:44:08.52 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 00:44:08.53\00:44:11.44 "Son of man, speak to the children 00:44:11.45\00:44:13.09 of your people, and say to them, 00:44:13.10\00:44:15.04 'When I bring the sword upon a land, 00:44:15.05\00:44:17.26 and the people of the land 00:44:17.27\00:44:18.54 take a man from their territory 00:44:18.55\00:44:20.34 and make him their watchman, 00:44:20.35\00:44:22.29 when he sees the sword coming upon the land, 00:44:22.30\00:44:25.46 if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 00:44:25.47\00:44:28.43 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet 00:44:28.44\00:44:30.42 and does not take warning, 00:44:30.43\00:44:32.05 if the sword comes and takes him away, 00:44:32.06\00:44:33.95 his blood shall be on his own head. 00:44:33.96\00:44:36.56 He heard the sound of the trumpet, 00:44:36.57\00:44:38.37 but did not take warning, 00:44:38.38\00:44:40.22 his blood shall be upon himself. 00:44:40.23\00:44:42.39 But he who takes warning will save his life. 00:44:42.40\00:44:45.58 But if the watchman sees the sword coming 00:44:45.59\00:44:47.35 and does not blow the trumpet, 00:44:47.36\00:44:48.99 and the people are not warned, and the sword comes 00:44:49.00\00:44:51.48 and takes any person from among them, 00:44:51.49\00:44:53.71 he is taken away in his iniquity, 00:44:53.72\00:44:56.03 but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.' 00:44:56.04\00:44:59.14 Okay. Notice. 00:44:59.18\00:45:00.21 And verse 7 to finish it up. 00:45:00.22\00:45:01.49 So you, son of man, 00:45:01.50\00:45:02.66 I've made you a watchman for the house of Israel, 00:45:02.67\00:45:05.86 therefore, you shall hear the word 00:45:05.87\00:45:07.44 from My mouth and warn them for Me. 00:45:07.45\00:45:10.19 So the blowing clearly of this trumpet 00:45:10.20\00:45:13.55 by the watchman is the word spoken through Ezekiel. 00:45:13.56\00:45:18.99 That's right warning, a word of warning. That's right. 00:45:19.00\00:45:21.58 Warning of coming destruction, 00:45:21.59\00:45:23.50 a word of warning, he sees the sword coming 00:45:23.51\00:45:27.22 and he blows the trumpet 00:45:27.23\00:45:28.98 and the three things that we find there is one, 00:45:28.99\00:45:33.15 why blow the trumpet to warn. 00:45:33.16\00:45:34.82 Secondly, what happens if they do not respond? 00:45:34.83\00:45:37.42 Their blood is on their head. 00:45:37.43\00:45:39.44 What happens if the watchman doesn't blow the trumpet? 00:45:39.45\00:45:41.88 Their blood is on his head. Okay. 00:45:41.89\00:45:44.17 So the third application-- by the way 00:45:44.18\00:45:46.72 we had the first one was the voice of Jesus. 00:45:46.73\00:45:49.05 The second one was the preaching of the gospel. 00:45:49.06\00:45:52.05 The third one was also the preaching of the gospel, 00:45:52.06\00:45:54.20 but specifically now warning of coming destruction. 00:45:54.21\00:45:57.33 He sees something coming and he has to warn them 00:45:57.34\00:46:00.36 and that's three out of nine. 00:46:00.37\00:46:02.28 When we go through these as quickly as we possibly can 00:46:02.29\00:46:04.37 and the reason why we're doing this exercise is because 00:46:04.38\00:46:06.36 when the Bible uses the phrase for the word trumpet 00:46:06.37\00:46:09.67 and specifically the person here is trying to find out 00:46:09.68\00:46:12.61 what the seven trumpets in Revelation mean. 00:46:12.62\00:46:15.06 You've got to use the Bible to interpret the symbols. 00:46:15.07\00:46:19.25 The Bible has to be the sole interpreter of the symbols 00:46:19.26\00:46:22.31 that are found in the scripture. 00:46:22.32\00:46:24.20 If not, I could come up with something and say, 00:46:24.21\00:46:25.78 well, you know the trumpet actually means 00:46:25.79\00:46:27.24 trailer truck is coming. 00:46:27.25\00:46:28.92 Because when that trailer truck blows 00:46:28.93\00:46:30.12 that horn it sounds like a trumpet. 00:46:30.13\00:46:31.39 Yeah. Scares me half to death. 00:46:31.40\00:46:32.87 Oh, it could really wake you up honestly. 00:46:32.88\00:46:37.41 My wife has-- Angie has this new phone, 00:46:37.42\00:46:39.51 the Droid, you know, one morning, Sunday morning, 00:46:39.52\00:46:42.75 you know, she forgot it was set 00:46:42.76\00:46:45.39 and she gets up at 6 o'clock 00:46:45.40\00:46:47.20 and she had a rooster that pepp pa pa, 00:46:47.21\00:46:50.00 I mean, and she couldn't find the button to turn it off. 00:46:50.01\00:46:53.30 I mean at 6 o'clock it blew me out of the bed. 00:46:53.31\00:46:56.09 It just really that crowing of the rooster 00:46:56.10\00:47:00.13 it just and after a while in the dark 00:47:00.14\00:47:03.20 you're fiddling with it trying to figure out, 00:47:03.21\00:47:05.18 truly, I said to her, they should make 00:47:05.19\00:47:07.54 smoke alarms with this kind of sound. 00:47:07.55\00:47:10.34 Because there is no way you're gonna hear this rooster 00:47:10.35\00:47:12.16 crowing at 120 decibels and not get up. 00:47:12.17\00:47:14.29 But that's three. 00:47:15.27\00:47:16.65 We may not get all of them, 00:47:16.66\00:47:17.71 but we'll cover this still in this upcoming program. 00:47:17.72\00:47:20.73 Yes, and now so those are three. 00:47:20.74\00:47:22.94 The other one what I want to point out 00:47:22.95\00:47:24.79 is Matthew Chapter 24, Matthew Chapter 24, 00:47:24.80\00:47:31.46 putting them in no particular order, 00:47:31.47\00:47:32.98 but I'm dealing with the easy ones first. 00:47:32.99\00:47:35.53 Matthew 24 and we're gonna look at verse 31. 00:47:35.54\00:47:39.37 Matthew Chapter 24 and verse 31. 00:47:39.38\00:47:44.61 And if you get there before I do, 00:47:44.62\00:47:46.69 I'm taking on my glasses 00:47:49.75\00:47:52.12 because I think I need them. 00:47:52.13\00:47:53.71 This is a nice Bible, 00:47:53.72\00:47:55.56 but the print is small and I'm past that. 00:47:55.57\00:47:59.01 I need, like, 24-point print now without glasses. 00:47:59.02\00:48:02.36 Go for it John, verse 31. 00:48:02.37\00:48:04.77 He will send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, 00:48:04.78\00:48:07.98 and they will gather together 00:48:07.99\00:48:09.58 his elect from the four winds, 00:48:09.59\00:48:11.82 from one end of heaven to the other. Okay. 00:48:11.86\00:48:15.69 Now that sound of a trumpet is obviously 00:48:15.70\00:48:18.14 in association with the second coming of Christ, 00:48:18.15\00:48:20.45 but what actually is that trumpet. 00:48:20.46\00:48:22.19 Go to First Thessalonians Chapter 4. 00:48:22.20\00:48:25.20 Same reference, First Thessalonians Chapter 4. 00:48:25.21\00:48:29.17 One of the signs that you're getting 00:48:32.59\00:48:34.06 wiser is that you need glasses. 00:48:34.07\00:48:37.59 My eyes have been changing a lot lately too. 00:48:37.60\00:48:39.56 Okay. Verse 16, John. 00:48:39.57\00:48:44.34 For the Lord Himself 00:48:44.35\00:48:45.39 will descend from heaven with a shout, 00:48:45.40\00:48:47.86 with the voice of an archangel, 00:48:47.87\00:48:49.61 and with the trumpet of God, 00:48:49.62\00:48:51.60 and the dead in Christ will rise first. Okay. 00:48:51.61\00:48:54.06 So now the trumpet of God, is what? 00:48:54.07\00:48:56.17 It's His voice. It's His voice. 00:48:58.99\00:49:00.20 It's a voice of an archangel. That's right. 00:49:00.21\00:49:02.54 So that trumpet blast that we hear, 00:49:02.55\00:49:04.95 that trumpet blast talked about in Matthew 24:31 00:49:04.96\00:49:07.90 is once again the voice of Jesus Revelation 1:10 00:49:07.91\00:49:11.57 makes it clear to us. 00:49:11.58\00:49:12.60 So we follow what we did right away 00:49:12.61\00:49:14.96 is in each particular reference we follow 00:49:14.97\00:49:17.61 what that trumpet meant in that particular reference. 00:49:17.62\00:49:19.94 Descending with the voice of the archangel 00:49:19.95\00:49:22.36 with a trumpet of God. 00:49:22.37\00:49:23.92 And the trumpet of God is the voice. 00:49:23.93\00:49:27.54 That's what Revelation 1:10 and verse 11 made 00:49:27.55\00:49:29.94 very, very clear to us. 00:49:29.95\00:49:31.00 When it comes to the trumpet of God, 00:49:31.01\00:49:32.33 when it comes to relating to Jesus himself. 00:49:32.34\00:49:34.93 It's pointing us to that. 00:49:34.94\00:49:36.14 I find it interesting too 00:49:36.15\00:49:37.26 that First Corinthians 15 talks about it 00:49:37.27\00:49:41.51 as being the last trumpet that creates the resurrection. Yes. 00:49:41.52\00:49:46.24 Anyway that's future application. Okay. 00:49:46.25\00:49:49.59 Right the final trump--the final trump and it shall sound. 00:49:49.60\00:49:53.78 And those are--how many did we cover there? 00:49:53.79\00:49:56.57 Is that four now? 00:49:56.58\00:49:58.29 That's about three or four. That's four. 00:49:58.30\00:50:00.77 Okay, now let's go to the book of Judges. 00:50:00.78\00:50:05.46 Judges chapter 7. 00:50:05.47\00:50:07.85 Want to go to Judges chapter 7. 00:50:07.86\00:50:09.52 Okay. All right. 00:50:09.53\00:50:11.83 Judges chapter 7. 00:50:11.84\00:50:13.23 Okay, there're the glasses again. 00:50:15.23\00:50:17.83 Can't get away from'em. 00:50:17.84\00:50:19.51 You really make sure. 00:50:19.52\00:50:21.26 Here we are, okay. 00:50:21.27\00:50:23.24 Judges chapter 7 and we're going to read-- 00:50:23.25\00:50:25.85 this is a very nice story. 00:50:25.86\00:50:28.59 We're gonna read Judges chapter 7 and verse 18. 00:50:28.60\00:50:31.89 We all know the story, and you know, John, 00:50:31.90\00:50:37.14 this is a story of Gideon and his mighty army, 00:50:37.15\00:50:39.90 starting with 32,000 ending up with 300. 00:50:39.91\00:50:42.71 The Lord can do more with 300 more 00:50:42.72\00:50:45.41 truly dedicated than he can with 32,000 00:50:45.42\00:50:48.17 that are not even into it. 00:50:48.18\00:50:50.11 Okay, but what happens in this story in verse 18 00:50:50.12\00:50:53.46 that helps us to see another side of the trumpet. 00:50:53.47\00:50:56.61 All right. Go for it. 00:50:56.62\00:50:59.31 When I blow the trumpet, and all who are with me, 00:50:59.32\00:51:02.51 then you also blow the trumpets 00:51:02.52\00:51:04.48 on every side of the whole camp, 00:51:04.49\00:51:06.54 and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon. 00:51:06.55\00:51:10.41 So Gideon, and the hundred men 00:51:10.42\00:51:11.97 who were with him, came to the outpost 00:51:11.98\00:51:13.83 of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, 00:51:13.84\00:51:16.62 just as they had posted the watch, 00:51:16.63\00:51:19.08 and they blew the trumpets, 00:51:19.09\00:51:20.37 and broke the pitchers that were in their hands. 00:51:20.38\00:51:23.28 Then the three companies blew the trumpets, 00:51:23.29\00:51:25.61 and broke the pitchers. 00:51:25.62\00:51:27.18 They held the torches in their left hands, 00:51:27.19\00:51:29.26 and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing, 00:51:29.27\00:51:31.56 and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon. 00:51:31.57\00:51:35.72 And every man stood in his place all around the camp 00:51:35.73\00:51:38.37 and the whole army ran, and cried out, and fled. 00:51:38.38\00:51:41.80 When the three hundred blew the trumpets, 00:51:41.81\00:51:43.49 the Lord set every man's sword against his companion, 00:51:43.50\00:51:47.03 throughout the whole camp, 00:51:47.04\00:51:48.60 and the army fled to Beth-Shittah who, 00:51:48.61\00:51:52.89 toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel-Meholah. 00:51:52.90\00:51:58.68 We haven't done practice these ahead of time, John. 00:51:58.69\00:52:01.21 By Tabbath. Okay. 00:52:01.22\00:52:03.53 So here we have-- we have these trumpets now. 00:52:03.54\00:52:06.26 Are these literal trumpets or symbolic trumpets? 00:52:06.27\00:52:08.95 These are literal here. Right. 00:52:08.96\00:52:10.14 Because they're holding these trumpets in their hand 00:52:10.15\00:52:12.93 and they're blowing the trumpet. 00:52:12.94\00:52:14.71 Then he says hold in one hand 00:52:14.72\00:52:16.36 and the other hold a pitcher. 00:52:16.37\00:52:18.14 So they're blowing the trumpet, 00:52:18.15\00:52:19.61 then they're breaking the pitcher, 00:52:19.62\00:52:21.12 and then they shout, The sword of the Lord, 00:52:21.13\00:52:23.04 The sword of the Lord. 00:52:23.05\00:52:24.69 So this in this sense this is a preparation for war. 00:52:24.70\00:52:29.16 This is an instrument of war letting the people 00:52:29.17\00:52:32.41 that they are attacking know, they are coming, 00:52:32.42\00:52:34.89 and when you think about this story 00:52:34.90\00:52:37.24 you see that what made this so instrumental was that. 00:52:37.25\00:52:40.40 These 300 men were in groups of 100, 00:52:40.41\00:52:42.86 they surrounded the enemy. 00:52:42.87\00:52:44.49 So can you imagine at night, 00:52:44.50\00:52:46.19 you hear these 300 trumpets blow and all of a sudden 00:52:46.20\00:52:50.85 they break these pitchers magnificent roaring of flames. 00:52:50.86\00:52:55.55 And they're blowing these trumpets. 00:52:55.56\00:52:57.72 It would sound like they're being 00:52:57.73\00:52:58.99 attacked by 33,000 and they run. 00:52:59.00\00:53:01.38 They'll seek flight running for their lives 00:53:01.39\00:53:03.05 and that's exactly what happened in this story here. 00:53:03.06\00:53:06.11 They did capture their enemy and make a speed, 00:53:06.12\00:53:09.05 speedily riddance of them 00:53:09.06\00:53:10.22 but-- Yeah. 00:53:10.23\00:53:11.59 One of the references I have down here 00:53:11.60\00:53:13.15 is that the story also tells us that 00:53:13.16\00:53:15.36 the trumpet is an instrument of judgment. That's right. 00:53:15.37\00:53:18.48 You know, it's war but also war to God 00:53:18.49\00:53:21.41 is His judgment executively, 00:53:21.42\00:53:24.25 His executive judgment being poured out upon those 00:53:24.26\00:53:26.81 who are opposing his people. 00:53:26.82\00:53:29.04 That's a very good application. 00:53:29.05\00:53:31.76 Clearly, we see there 00:53:31.77\00:53:33.57 that trumpet is used for that purpose. 00:53:33.58\00:53:35.80 Now, let's go to-- let's go to Joshua. 00:53:35.81\00:53:40.95 I wanna see this one, you know, 00:53:40.96\00:53:42.35 we only have a few minutes left. 00:53:42.36\00:53:44.04 Matter of fact, John, I'm gonna hold off on that one. 00:53:44.05\00:53:46.90 I'm gonna hold off on that one. 00:53:46.91\00:53:48.03 Let's go to Joel. 00:53:48.04\00:53:49.63 Let's go to Joel, J-O-E-L, 00:53:49.64\00:53:53.37 Joel and look at what Joel has to say. 00:53:53.38\00:53:58.83 I have these tabs in my Bible 00:53:58.84\00:54:00.44 and I'm so glad I know 00:54:00.45\00:54:01.79 my Bible without looking at those tabs. 00:54:01.80\00:54:04.92 I can find it quickly without looking at those tabs. 00:54:04.93\00:54:08.94 Joel chapter 2 verse 1 and 2. Go for that one. 00:54:08.95\00:54:14.32 Blow the trumpet in Zion, 00:54:14.33\00:54:15.74 and sound an alarm in my holy mountain. 00:54:15.75\00:54:18.50 Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, 00:54:18.51\00:54:20.58 for the day of the Lord is coming. 00:54:20.59\00:54:22.48 For it is at hand. 00:54:22.49\00:54:24.31 A day of darkness and gloominess, 00:54:24.32\00:54:26.08 a day of clouds and thick darkness 00:54:26.09\00:54:28.13 like the morning clouds spread over the mountains. 00:54:28.14\00:54:31.12 People come great and strong 00:54:31.13\00:54:33.10 like that of who had never been, 00:54:33.11\00:54:35.23 no will there ever be any such after them. 00:54:35.24\00:54:38.23 And verse 10 and verse 11. 00:54:38.24\00:54:41.42 The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble. 00:54:41.43\00:54:43.54 The sun and the moon grow dark, 00:54:43.55\00:54:44.94 and the stars diminish their brightness. 00:54:44.95\00:54:47.09 The Lord gives voice before his army. 00:54:47.10\00:54:49.69 For his camp is very great for strong 00:54:49.70\00:54:52.59 is the one who executes his word. 00:54:52.60\00:54:55.02 For the day of the Lord is great 00:54:55.03\00:54:56.19 and very terrible who can endure it? 00:54:56.20\00:54:58.06 Another word for-- another phrase 00:54:58.07\00:54:59.37 for who can endure it is who shall be able to stand. 00:54:59.38\00:55:02.11 And we find in Revelation in 6 and verse 17 00:55:02.12\00:55:04.11 that very declaration, who shall be able to stand. 00:55:04.12\00:55:07.27 So Joel here is describing the day of the Lord. 00:55:07.28\00:55:09.69 The coming of God's judgments here. 00:55:09.70\00:55:12.24 And he's describing in a-- and we just jumped through it 00:55:12.25\00:55:15.07 but he talks about the effect on both the man, 00:55:15.08\00:55:19.50 and beast, and the cities, and the large fortified walls. 00:55:19.51\00:55:23.86 He talks about how this impact is gonna be far reaching, 00:55:23.87\00:55:26.72 far and wide, and Amos also adds a component 00:55:26.73\00:55:31.14 to that but you wanna make a comment, I see that. 00:55:31.15\00:55:32.86 Well, I mean we're talking about here 00:55:32.87\00:55:34.51 another aspect of judgment, 00:55:34.52\00:55:35.84 here in the last days. That's right. 00:55:35.85\00:55:37.39 But if you go little further to verse 15, 00:55:37.40\00:55:40.00 it says blow the trumpet in Zion, 00:55:40.01\00:55:41.65 consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly, 00:55:41.66\00:55:44.39 gather the people, sanctify the congregation, 00:55:44.40\00:55:46.73 assemble the elders, 00:55:46.74\00:55:48.20 gather the children, and nursing babies, 00:55:48.21\00:55:49.84 let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, 00:55:49.85\00:55:52.19 and the bride from her dressing room. 00:55:52.20\00:55:53.69 Let the priests who minister to the Lord, 00:55:53.70\00:55:55.19 weep before the porch and the altar saying, 00:55:55.20\00:55:57.13 Spare your people, O Lord. 00:55:57.14\00:55:59.28 So it's also at the same time simultaneous-- 00:55:59.29\00:56:02.15 a simultaneous call to the people. 00:56:02.16\00:56:04.22 That's right, to sanctify themselves. 00:56:04.23\00:56:05.55 To sanctify themselves and be prepared 00:56:05.56\00:56:08.15 because the Lord is now judging 00:56:08.16\00:56:10.60 and the only way to shield-- to be shielded 00:56:10.61\00:56:13.15 from those judgments is to be pure and holy before him. 00:56:13.16\00:56:16.25 Very good application. 00:56:16.26\00:56:17.29 As a matter of fact, I'm gonna add that to this 00:56:17.30\00:56:19.44 because that's in fact a call to warning, 00:56:19.45\00:56:22.65 a call-- a call to sanctification. 00:56:22.66\00:56:24.75 Notice my New York got in there, a cool. 00:56:24.76\00:56:27.09 A call to sanctification, 00:56:27.10\00:56:28.69 a call to purifying one's life, 00:56:28.70\00:56:31.20 a call to getting one's person ready for the things 00:56:31.21\00:56:36.04 that are about to break. 00:56:36.05\00:56:37.65 And so when you hear the sound of the trumpets, 00:56:37.66\00:56:41.73 when these trumpets are blowing in Zion 00:56:41.74\00:56:44.34 amongst the people of God, the assembly, 00:56:44.35\00:56:47.18 the priest, the ministers, those who weep 00:56:47.19\00:56:50.66 and those who are called to be gathered together 00:56:50.67\00:56:54.85 are called to a moment of consecration. 00:56:54.86\00:56:57.96 And this is an awesome time 00:56:57.97\00:56:59.41 that we do believe is coming very, very soon. 00:56:59.42\00:57:02.14 And you know, our time has come and gone so quickly. 00:57:02.15\00:57:04.85 We just tapped on this topic 00:57:04.86\00:57:07.29 and friends as you know we like to talk a whole a lot 00:57:07.30\00:57:11.02 but the talking portion for this program 00:57:11.03\00:57:13.37 is now winding down very quickly. 00:57:13.38\00:57:16.10 We wanna just encourage you to stay tuned 00:57:16.11\00:57:17.86 to House calls in the future 00:57:17.87\00:57:19.67 because one day we're gonna hear the trumpet sound 00:57:19.68\00:57:22.53 and the Lord is gonna make a call on our house. 00:57:22.54\00:57:25.41 So to prepare for that, sanctify yourselves 00:57:25.42\00:57:27.89 and give your life to the Lord today 00:57:27.90\00:57:30.20 and walk with him and have a great day in Jesus Christ. 00:57:30.21\00:57:33.68
