Yeah. 00:01:38.29\00:01:40.56 You know, we have where one of our "House Calls" 00:01:40.59\00:01:42.81 is one of hundred different emails. 00:01:42.84\00:01:45.06 We don't have time to read those, 00:01:45.09\00:01:46.12 we basically just delete them. 00:01:46.15\00:01:47.26 And so I feel bad about telling you that, 00:01:47.29\00:01:49.12 but if you send us just as a recipient list, 00:01:49.15\00:01:50.88 if it's not a Bible question, we had to delete it, 00:01:50.91\00:01:53.11 just for the essence of time, just to add that 00:01:53.14\00:01:55.89 because I knew that some people just add us to that, 00:01:55.92\00:01:57.62 but it doesn't really get through. That's true. 00:01:57.65\00:02:00.26 And so if you-- if you have a question today, 00:02:00.29\00:02:02.11 you like to send to us, send that to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:02:02.14\00:02:05.86 that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:02:05.89\00:02:09.50 And we will try our best to get to those questions 00:02:09.53\00:02:12.09 and answer them in the best way we can. 00:02:12.12\00:02:15.11 If it's our opinion we'll say so 00:02:15.14\00:02:16.84 but we like to stick with the Bible as much as we can. 00:02:16.87\00:02:20.75 So who'd like to start, John, me or you? 00:02:20.78\00:02:22.77 You go ahead, you start today, 00:02:22.80\00:02:23.86 and my question may take a little longer. 00:02:23.89\00:02:25.85 Okay, Revelation 14:4. 00:02:25.88\00:02:28.76 You have your Bible turned there with us to Revelation 14:4. 00:02:28.79\00:02:34.05 Okay, notice the text and, by the way I am-- 00:02:34.08\00:02:38.83 we are having a Revelation seminar 00:02:38.86\00:02:40.32 at our church, going through the Bible, 00:02:40.35\00:02:41.90 chapter by chapter, verse by verse. 00:02:41.93\00:02:44.02 Very interesting text. 00:02:44.05\00:02:45.63 And this is on the heels of 00:02:45.66\00:02:47.98 the description of 144,000, but notice it. 00:02:48.01\00:02:52.51 Revelation 14:4, "These are the ones" 00:02:52.54\00:02:55.20 speaking of the 144,000, 00:02:55.23\00:02:57.21 "who were not defiled with women, 00:02:57.24\00:02:59.82 for they are virgins, 00:02:59.85\00:03:01.93 they are the ones who follow the lamb, 00:03:01.96\00:03:03.98 where ever He goes. 00:03:04.01\00:03:06.02 These were redeemed from among men, 00:03:06.05\00:03:08.66 being first fruits to God and to the Lamb." 00:03:08.69\00:03:12.66 It begins by describing something very important. 00:03:12.69\00:03:14.92 It says first of all, these are the ones 00:03:14.95\00:03:16.91 who were not defiled with women for they are virgins. 00:03:16.94\00:03:21.30 Now the Bible, when the Bible uses the word, 00:03:21.33\00:03:23.12 'in prophecy women' is describing the church. 00:03:23.15\00:03:26.85 Now the woman is first introduced in Revelation 12, 00:03:26.88\00:03:29.96 and you'll find a woman clothed with a sun, 00:03:29.99\00:03:34.95 and the moon and the stars, meaning natural. 00:03:34.98\00:03:40.42 The glory of God is being reflected from this woman. 00:03:40.45\00:03:43.24 Then you find in Revelation 17, another woman. 00:03:43.27\00:03:46.49 She is decked with purple and scarlet and precious stones 00:03:46.52\00:03:51.11 and she has a golden cup in her hand, 00:03:51.14\00:03:53.21 full of the blood of the saints. 00:03:53.24\00:03:55.66 And the reason why it's purple and scarlet, 00:03:55.69\00:03:58.05 she is missing the color, blue. 00:03:58.08\00:04:00.05 Which is the color of the commandments of God. 00:04:00.08\00:04:02.39 Now this group in Revelation 14, 00:04:02.42\00:04:04.89 they also have another description. 00:04:04.92\00:04:06.31 Let's look at that description in Revelation 14:12, 00:04:06.34\00:04:09.99 and showing that they are the ones 00:04:10.02\00:04:12.80 who are honoring the commandments of God, 00:04:12.83\00:04:15.08 so they would have blue, represented in their garments. 00:04:15.11\00:04:19.14 It says, "Here is the patience of the saints. 00:04:19.17\00:04:21.83 Here are those who keep the commandments of God, 00:04:21.86\00:04:24.41 and the faith of Jesus." 00:04:24.44\00:04:26.96 But now going back to Revelation 14:4, 00:04:26.99\00:04:30.02 the reason why I say, they were not defiled with women 00:04:30.05\00:04:32.55 for they are virgins is, 00:04:32.58\00:04:34.50 at a time when the people of God are having to take a firm stand. 00:04:34.53\00:04:38.51 This is the time where the 144,000 are sealed. 00:04:38.54\00:04:43.08 It's a time where the world 00:04:43.11\00:04:44.14 is correlates into two particular groups. 00:04:44.17\00:04:46.68 Those who have stood for the truth, 00:04:46.71\00:04:49.22 and those who are yet to either hear the truth 00:04:49.25\00:04:51.28 or those who have turned away from the truth. 00:04:51.31\00:04:53.60 So the 144,000 are pure. Their message is pure. 00:04:53.63\00:04:56.58 They are sealed in the pure gospel. 00:04:56.61\00:04:58.69 And they go forth to proclaim this message. 00:04:58.72\00:05:01.20 And what they proclaim is totally undefiled. 00:05:01.23\00:05:05.24 It's pure, that's why the Bible says they are virgins. 00:05:05.27\00:05:08.20 As a matter of fact, 00:05:08.23\00:05:09.75 when you look at the other portions of this, 00:05:09.78\00:05:13.50 look at verse 5, Revelation 14:5, it says, 00:05:13.53\00:05:16.93 "And in their mouth was found no deceit, 00:05:16.96\00:05:19.97 or no guile" depending on the translation, 00:05:20.00\00:05:22.31 "for they are without fault before the throne of God." 00:05:22.34\00:05:26.30 In other words, they don't tell a lie. 00:05:26.33\00:05:28.79 They're telling the truth. Truth about what? 00:05:28.82\00:05:30.73 Truth about the gospel message. 00:05:30.76\00:05:33.80 You could register in on anytime you like, John. 00:05:33.83\00:05:35.68 Well, I like--what you're saying is absolutely true. 00:05:35.71\00:05:38.57 And I think one of the things interesting of verse 4, 00:05:38.60\00:05:40.95 talking about them being first fruits to God. 00:05:40.98\00:05:44.37 You were saying that these were, 00:05:44.40\00:05:47.75 this is talking about a group who were sealed to God, 00:05:47.78\00:05:51.78 they were sealed in the truth. 00:05:51.81\00:05:54.35 And as we read about the 144,000 in Chapter 7, 00:05:54.38\00:05:58.96 it talks about that they are sealed 00:05:58.99\00:06:00.68 before the four winds are released. That's right. 00:06:00.71\00:06:03.44 So by the time when the four winds are released, 00:06:03.47\00:06:05.24 the time of trouble comes upon the earth, 00:06:05.27\00:06:07.45 the 144, 000 have been sealed. 00:06:07.48\00:06:10.36 So when it says 'their first fruit 00:06:10.39\00:06:12.17 it means they're sealed first, 00:06:12.20\00:06:13.68 they've been judged as not defiled, 00:06:13.71\00:06:16.12 they've been judged as clean, 00:06:16.15\00:06:18.02 they have been judged as dedicated and loyal 00:06:18.05\00:06:20.56 to their God and their Savior. 00:06:20.59\00:06:22.50 And as keeping the commandments of God as well. 00:06:22.53\00:06:25.90 So, they're sealed in, they're ready for the work, 00:06:25.93\00:06:28.54 that they're going to do, they're called to do 00:06:28.57\00:06:29.94 during that time of trouble. 00:06:29.97\00:06:31.45 That's right, as a matter of fact, 00:06:31.48\00:06:32.51 if you compare that with the condition, 00:06:32.54\00:06:34.33 because Revelation talks about seven churches. 00:06:34.36\00:06:37.58 So if the woman represents the church, 00:06:37.61\00:06:40.65 we are in essence talking about seven women. 00:06:40.68\00:06:44.40 But if you look at Isaiah 4:1, go there with us, 00:06:44.43\00:06:46.93 I want you to see this, "The condition of the woman" 00:06:46.96\00:06:52.85 or the 'women,' Isaiah 4:1, 00:06:52.88\00:06:58.95 and this is-- the context here is the, 00:06:58.98\00:07:03.18 in that day, the motive in the day of God, it says, 00:07:03.21\00:07:07.50 "In that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, 00:07:07.53\00:07:14.89 We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel, 00:07:14.92\00:07:18.84 only let us be called by your name, 00:07:18.87\00:07:21.18 to take away our reproach." 00:07:21.21\00:07:22.85 So the name that they're going to be associated with 00:07:22.88\00:07:25.09 will definitely take away their reproach. 00:07:25.12\00:07:26.79 In other words, give me the name of Jesus, 00:07:26.82\00:07:28.42 give me the Christian name. 00:07:28.45\00:07:30.16 So this is not talking about-- 00:07:30.19\00:07:32.84 this is not talking about paganism, 00:07:32.87\00:07:34.90 this is not talking about witchcraft, 00:07:34.93\00:07:36.86 this is talking about those who are under the banner of Christ, 00:07:36.89\00:07:40.99 but they have their own bread, 00:07:41.02\00:07:42.76 meaning their own teachings. 00:07:42.79\00:07:44.39 They have their own apparel, their own clothing, 00:07:44.42\00:07:46.53 their own righteousness. 00:07:46.56\00:07:48.45 They don't want that from Jesus Christ, 00:07:48.48\00:07:50.65 they don't want His teachings. 00:07:50.68\00:07:52.79 And so look at the contrast 00:07:52.82\00:07:53.88 between this description here in Isaiah 4:1, 00:07:53.91\00:07:58.10 and the description given in Revelation 14:4, 00:07:58.13\00:08:00.87 they are not defiled, these are defiled. 00:08:00.90\00:08:03.95 They have their own message, their own righteousness, 00:08:03.98\00:08:06.33 they just want Jesus' name. 00:08:06.36\00:08:07.98 But these have not only the name, 00:08:08.01\00:08:10.31 but they have the message, and they are undefiled. 00:08:10.34\00:08:12.80 Yeah, and if you read on in Isaiah 4:2, 00:08:12.83\00:08:15.69 it says, "In that day, the branch of the Lord 00:08:15.72\00:08:17.42 shall be beautiful and glorious, 00:08:17.45\00:08:19.23 and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent 00:08:19.26\00:08:20.67 and appealing for those of Israel who have escaped." 00:08:20.70\00:08:24.12 And it says, "And it shall come to pass, 00:08:24.15\00:08:26.20 he who is left in Zion, remains" 00:08:26.23\00:08:29.56 this is talking about the remnant. That's right. 00:08:29.59\00:08:31.39 "Remains in Jerusalem, will be called holy, 00:08:31.42\00:08:34.29 every one who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem." 00:08:34.32\00:08:36.40 So it's talking about those who are left 00:08:36.43\00:08:38.41 not the ones who are saying, we have our own brand, 00:08:38.44\00:08:40.21 we have our own thing. Right. 00:08:40.24\00:08:41.56 Those who are left, who remain, 00:08:41.59\00:08:43.01 who are part of the remnant, are called holy. 00:08:43.04\00:08:45.47 That's right. So yes, very good. 00:08:45.50\00:08:47.50 So in a nutshell I believe, that's what is, it's talking, 00:08:47.53\00:08:50.25 and this is a, this text is symbolic, 00:08:50.28\00:08:53.68 in a sense of the women, the first fruits, 00:08:53.71\00:08:56.73 but the Lamb is a symbol of Christ, 00:08:56.76\00:09:01.03 and so the other part we didn't emphasize very much 00:09:01.06\00:09:03.34 is these are the ones who follow the Lamb where ever He goes. 00:09:03.37\00:09:06.43 So Jesus directs and as a matter of fact, 00:09:06.46\00:09:10.50 when the Bible says, they follow the Lamb where He goes, 00:09:10.53\00:09:14.01 that's what a disciple is. 00:09:14.04\00:09:15.77 He says, take up your cross and follow Me. 00:09:15.80\00:09:19.01 They have decided to do that, 00:09:19.04\00:09:20.89 but in this context they are sealed already, 00:09:20.92\00:09:23.40 and wherever He directs them to go, 00:09:23.43\00:09:25.44 they will follow Him. 00:09:25.47\00:09:26.55 And what's so important about that, 00:09:26.58\00:09:28.13 is there is a multitude still to be won, 00:09:28.16\00:09:31.30 during this time of tribulation, during this time of trouble, 00:09:31.33\00:09:34.89 not when the doors of probation are closed, 00:09:34.92\00:09:37.91 but when 144,000 are sealed, 00:09:37.94\00:09:40.26 there will go forth to proclaim the message of God, 00:09:40.29\00:09:43.68 more fully, the loud cry of Revelation 18. 00:09:43.71\00:09:46.39 Very good. Thank you. 00:09:46.42\00:09:49.18 Here's a question from Bob, and he is sending it in. 00:09:49.21\00:09:52.45 He doesn't say exactly where he is from, 00:09:52.48\00:09:54.60 but thank you Bob for sending this question. 00:09:54.63\00:09:56.92 It's kind of a question, that's asking us 00:09:56.95\00:09:59.08 to clarify an earlier statement. All right. 00:09:59.11\00:10:01.27 He says, on a recent House Calls program, 00:10:01.30\00:10:03.14 the two Johns indicated that 00:10:03.17\00:10:04.25 the tribulation in Mathew 24:32 and 33, 00:10:04.28\00:10:07.96 refers to the time of trouble of Daniel 12:1, 00:10:07.99\00:10:10.89 instead of the days immediately following 00:10:10.92\00:10:12.52 the great papal persecution of the Dark Ages. 00:10:12.55\00:10:15.68 A reading of Desire Of Ages, page 631 and 632 00:10:15.71\00:10:20.57 puts these events in a different perspective, 00:10:20.60\00:10:22.33 than that presented on House Calls. 00:10:22.36\00:10:25.44 Well, that's a matter of perspective. 00:10:25.47\00:10:29.04 But let's clarify, John, here, 00:10:29.07\00:10:30.29 what in fact we did say about that. 00:10:30.32\00:10:32.93 I was reading Mathew 24:32 and 33, 00:10:32.96\00:10:36.31 and I don't think that those are the quick verses 00:10:36.34\00:10:38.26 that he means to put in here. 00:10:38.29\00:10:40.63 Because it's not talking about 00:10:40.66\00:10:41.92 any tribulation in those two verses. 00:10:41.95\00:10:43.78 I believe Bob is speaking of-- 00:10:43.81\00:10:46.73 because I remember talking about the verses 00:10:46.76\00:10:49.10 regarding the great tribulation from verse 21 and 22. 00:10:49.13\00:10:53.42 So I'm going to read, 21 and 22 here. All right. 00:10:53.45\00:10:55.72 And we'll talk about those in its proper context. 00:10:55.75\00:10:59.38 Verse 21, "For then, there will be great tribulation 00:10:59.41\00:11:04.00 such as has not been since the beginning of the world 00:11:04.03\00:11:06.55 until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 00:11:06.58\00:11:10.13 And unless those days were shortened, 00:11:10.16\00:11:12.54 no flesh would be saved, but for the elect's sake 00:11:12.57\00:11:15.31 those days will be shortened." 00:11:15.34\00:11:17.90 This verse as we have said before 00:11:17.93\00:11:20.33 refers to the time of trouble, 00:11:20.36\00:11:23.80 a great tribulation, not in period or duration, 00:11:23.83\00:11:27.09 because it says, the days are shortened. Right. 00:11:27.12\00:11:29.16 But a great tribulation in intensity 00:11:29.19\00:11:31.92 and we've said it before as well, 00:11:31.95\00:11:34.47 that this compares to the scripture in Daniel 12, 00:11:34.50\00:11:40.33 and I'll read that very quickly 00:11:40.36\00:11:42.08 because you'll see very similar language 00:11:42.11\00:11:44.06 occurring in verse 1 here. 00:11:44.09\00:11:46.99 Daniel 12:1, "And at that time Michael shall stand up, 00:11:47.02\00:11:50.69 the great prince who stands 00:11:50.72\00:11:51.77 watch over the sons of your people, 00:11:51.80\00:11:53.19 and there shall be a time of trouble, 00:11:53.22\00:11:55.69 such as never was since there was a nation even to that time." 00:11:55.72\00:11:59.50 So you see, same language there. That's right. 00:11:59.53\00:12:01.64 Great tribulation, such as never was, 00:12:01.67\00:12:04.05 the time of trouble, a time such as never was 00:12:04.08\00:12:07.06 and so there we find the connecting link. 00:12:07.09\00:12:09.93 Now if you want to refer 00:12:09.96\00:12:10.99 to the 1260 years of papal persecution, 00:12:11.02\00:12:14.40 back up a little more in Mathew 24 to verse 9. 00:12:14.43\00:12:22.40 Verse 8 talks about some things, 00:12:23.88\00:12:26.24 you know, nation rising against nation, 00:12:26.27\00:12:28.71 being the beginning of the sorrows 00:12:28.74\00:12:29.93 and then in verse 9, it says, 00:12:29.96\00:12:31.01 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you 00:12:31.04\00:12:34.90 and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. 00:12:34.93\00:12:37.91 And then many will be offended, 00:12:37.94\00:12:39.69 will betray one another, and will hate one another." 00:12:39.72\00:12:41.87 And then it goes down. 00:12:41.90\00:12:42.93 So that's the period of tribulation 00:12:42.96\00:12:45.28 which is the time of the 1260 years of persecution, 00:12:45.31\00:12:49.47 but the end is not yet, 00:12:49.50\00:12:51.16 because that period was not the end. Right. 00:12:51.19\00:12:54.11 That period was a tribulation period 00:12:54.14\00:12:56.46 and the end came, finally we know, 00:12:56.49\00:12:59.87 at the very end of that time, 00:12:59.90\00:13:01.77 as we ushered into 1844 and the events following that, 00:13:01.80\00:13:05.54 being the time of the unofficially. 00:13:05.57\00:13:08.28 So Jesus is very, I think He is very poignant here, 00:13:08.31\00:13:12.59 He is very accurate here, when He goes through 00:13:12.62\00:13:14.57 a segment of a tribulation period, John, 00:13:14.60\00:13:18.05 to then the things that happened 00:13:18.08\00:13:19.11 the gospel being preached to all the world 00:13:19.62\00:13:21.59 and then a great tribulation happening, 00:13:21.62\00:13:23.77 and then in fact tribulation is mentioned again, 00:13:23.80\00:13:26.35 in verse 29, where it says, 00:13:26.38\00:13:29.64 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days 00:13:29.67\00:13:31.46 the sun will be darkened, 00:13:31.49\00:13:32.52 and the moon will not give its light, 00:13:32.55\00:13:33.75 and the stars will fall from heaven." 00:13:33.78\00:13:35.16 Now I believe that tribulation which is saying of those days 00:13:35.19\00:13:38.23 is also the great tribulation, 00:13:38.26\00:13:41.74 and I think this is where some get kind of mixed up or confused 00:13:41.77\00:13:45.15 because many will say, 00:13:45.18\00:13:47.15 and I know you've done some studying into this. 00:13:47.18\00:13:49.26 and talking on this point to, John, that they referred to, 00:13:49.29\00:13:54.12 these days of the sun growing dark had already happened 00:13:54.15\00:13:56.63 You know, we are talking about 17AD, 00:13:56.66\00:13:59.54 we're talking about-- 1755. 00:13:59.57\00:14:02.17 1755, Yeah, well, 1833 with the stars fell, 00:14:02.20\00:14:05.45 with the meteoroid shower, so we talk about those events 00:14:05.48\00:14:08.31 that's already occurring, but you know, 00:14:08.34\00:14:10.37 Jesus speaks of in Mathew 21, these things happening 00:14:10.40\00:14:15.14 in the context of the very last days, 00:14:15.17\00:14:17.04 again on a global scale. Right. 00:14:17.07\00:14:19.39 And the Bible is very, very consistent on this matter, 00:14:19.42\00:14:24.25 and that it speaks often of something happening locally, 00:14:24.28\00:14:27.19 that will eventually in its literal context 00:14:27.22\00:14:29.34 happening globally. Right. 00:14:29.37\00:14:31.27 And we find that as well, where there was a picture 00:14:31.30\00:14:33.46 or shadow of the last day events happening in 17AD, in 1833, 00:14:33.49\00:14:38.20 that will happen on a global scale at the very end of time, 00:14:38.23\00:14:41.20 and I believe that's what this is speaking of here. 00:14:41.23\00:14:43.49 And if you want take a look quickly at Luke 21. 00:14:43.52\00:14:47.72 It puts in context what is being spoken of there 00:14:47.75\00:14:51.12 by Jesus regarding the sun growing dark. 00:14:51.15\00:14:55.33 I'll just read that John, and then I'll let you chime in. 00:14:55.36\00:14:57.20 Sure. In verse 25-- 00:14:57.23\00:15:00.49 now this is Luke's record of the same message 00:15:00.52\00:15:04.04 that Jesus is giving only Luke, he gives, 00:15:04.07\00:15:06.26 gives some additional detail on what Jesus is saying. 00:15:06.29\00:15:08.97 It says in 25, there will be signs in the sun, 00:15:09.00\00:15:12.65 in the moon and in the stars, and on the earth, 00:15:12.68\00:15:14.77 distress of nations with perplexity, 00:15:14.80\00:15:16.94 that sea and the waves roaring. 00:15:16.97\00:15:19.34 Men's hearts failing them from fear, 00:15:19.37\00:15:22.30 and the expectation of those things 00:15:22.33\00:15:24.00 which are coming upon the earth, 00:15:24.03\00:15:25.49 for the powers of the heaven will be shaken." 00:15:25.52\00:15:28.69 And then notice right there within the context here, 00:15:28.72\00:15:31.06 "Then they will see the Son of Man 00:15:31.09\00:15:33.01 coming in a cloud with power and great glory." 00:15:33.04\00:15:36.33 So this happens right before Jesus comes back. 00:15:36.36\00:15:39.42 It also happens in the context of people 00:15:39.45\00:15:41.59 who are with perplexity, 00:15:41.62\00:15:43.73 nations that brings into that context, 00:15:43.76\00:15:46.07 not just one nation, not just a local issue, 00:15:46.10\00:15:48.50 but a global issue where nations are coming together 00:15:48.53\00:15:51.35 saying, John, look, what's coming upon the earth, 00:15:51.38\00:15:54.05 what are we going to do and the sun is growing dark, 00:15:54.08\00:15:56.48 the moon isn't giving its light, 00:15:56.51\00:15:57.78 but the moon's turned to blood. 00:15:57.81\00:15:59.42 And people are saying, this is an incredible time, 00:15:59.45\00:16:02.27 things have changed, God's dealings are not the same, 00:16:02.30\00:16:05.29 what shall we do. 00:16:05.32\00:16:07.56 As a matter of fact, John, this text gives such foundation 00:16:07.59\00:16:10.88 to that very timeframe 00:16:10.91\00:16:12.76 that is just before the coming of the Lord, that verse 28 says, 00:16:12.79\00:16:15.60 "Now when these things begin to happen, look up, 00:16:15.63\00:16:20.06 and lift up your heads because your redemption draws near." 00:16:20.09\00:16:23.65 So now if you look at the timeframes of the events 00:16:23.68\00:16:26.50 that have been recorded, 1755, Lisbon earthquake, 00:16:26.53\00:16:29.93 1780, the great dark day, 1833, 00:16:29.96\00:16:34.20 all these events that happened, 00:16:34.23\00:16:36.62 those all those events chimed in didn't happen, 00:16:36.65\00:16:39.40 I use the phrase here, before 1844. 00:16:39.43\00:16:42.42 And the early advent believers lead out by William Miller, 00:16:42.45\00:16:45.41 a Baptist preacher, and those who have been coming 00:16:45.44\00:16:48.41 from other movements during that time, 00:16:48.44\00:16:50.11 they were no Seventh-day Adventists at that time. 00:16:50.14\00:16:52.65 Sabbath keeping started a little later on, as a matter of fact. 00:16:52.68\00:16:57.16 Even after 1844. In 1850s. 00:16:57.19\00:16:59.79 Se in the 1850s, They got back to the message of the Sabbath. 00:16:59.82\00:17:03.00 So those believers who had gone back to the Bible, 00:17:03.03\00:17:05.87 had come to the conclusion in their study 00:17:05.90\00:17:08.11 that, Jesus was coming in 1844. 00:17:08.14\00:17:10.37 So notice the context of that, all these events had to happen 00:17:10.40\00:17:14.37 in order to convince them that Jesus was ready to come in 1844, 00:17:14.40\00:17:18.54 so the last of these recorded events was 1833, 00:17:18.57\00:17:21.15 eleven years earlier. All right. 00:17:21.18\00:17:23.18 The great tribulation, that's often referred to, 00:17:23.21\00:17:26.04 as from 538 to 1798, 1798 is only 46 years earlier. 00:17:26.07\00:17:33.02 So when you look at the papal reign 00:17:33.05\00:17:37.50 from 538 to 1798, 1260 years. 00:17:37.53\00:17:41.28 By no means is that time period cut short, 00:17:41.31\00:17:45.00 to save a person's life, because you die of natural causes. 00:17:45.03\00:17:48.20 Right. You see. 00:17:48.23\00:17:49.26 So but all these events had to happen before 1844 00:17:49.29\00:17:50.32 in order for those who believe that Jesus was coming then 00:17:50.35\00:17:55.60 to be convinced that everything was fulfilled. Right. 00:17:55.63\00:17:59.12 But if you look at these, Jesus is saying in verses 28, 00:17:59.15\00:18:04.23 "Now when these things begin to happen, 00:18:04.26\00:18:08.25 look up, and lift up your heads, 00:18:08.28\00:18:10.90 because your redemption draws near." 00:18:10.93\00:18:12.67 Mathew also adds another component to this, 00:18:12.70\00:18:15.24 and I want to go back to Mathew 24, 00:18:15.27\00:18:17.17 because Jesus also used the phrase, 00:18:17.20\00:18:19.08 the parable of the fig tree. 00:18:19.11\00:18:21.19 Look at Mathew 24:27, it says, "For as lightning coming" 00:18:21.22\00:18:29.19 just as the second coming, 00:18:29.22\00:18:31.07 "For as the lightning comes from the east, 00:18:31.10\00:18:33.02 and flashes to the west, 00:18:33.05\00:18:34.99 so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 00:18:35.02\00:18:38.32 For wherever the carcass is, 00:18:38.35\00:18:40.71 there the eagles will be gathered together. 00:18:40.74\00:18:43.62 That's the great supper talked about in Revelation. 00:18:43.65\00:18:46.27 But notice this, "Immediately after the tribulation 00:18:46.30\00:18:49.15 of those days, the sun will be darkened, 00:18:49.18\00:18:51.56 the moon will not give its light, 00:18:51.59\00:18:53.65 the stars will fall from heaven." 00:18:53.68\00:18:55.90 But this is the part that we often have no application for, 00:18:55.93\00:18:59.36 this didn't happened in 1833, in 1780, not at all. 00:18:59.39\00:19:03.29 "The powers of heavens will be shaken." 00:19:03.32\00:19:05.47 But notice the word, in verse 30, 00:19:05.50\00:19:07.80 'then' it's talking about a sequential, 00:19:07.83\00:19:10.37 a sequence of events happening one after the other, 00:19:10.40\00:19:12.80 after the other, after the other, 00:19:12.83\00:19:14.21 not hundreds of years spanning between them 00:19:14.24\00:19:17.46 because verse 30 says, "Then the Son of Man 00:19:17.49\00:19:21.72 will appear in heaven and then all the tribes' 00:19:21.75\00:19:26.14 not just a certain part of the earth, 00:19:26.17\00:19:28.50 not just the upper northeast. 00:19:28.53\00:19:29.93 Right, all the tribes. Right. 00:19:29.96\00:19:32.82 "Then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, 00:19:32.85\00:19:34.85 and they will see the Son of Man coming 00:19:34.88\00:19:36.75 on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." 00:19:36.78\00:19:39.80 But now notice the context, and He will send His angels, 00:19:39.83\00:19:42.85 okay, we know that, that's the coming of the Lord. 00:19:42.88\00:19:44.95 But now what does Jesus say, 00:19:44.98\00:19:46.48 "Now learn the parable of the fig tree 00:19:46.51\00:19:48.86 when its branches already become tender 00:19:48.89\00:19:50.69 and put forth leaves, you know the summer's near." 00:19:50.72\00:19:52.60 So like wise, here's again, just like Luke. 00:19:52.63\00:19:56.29 "When you see all these things, know it is near at the door." 00:19:56.32\00:20:03.37 And how near is it? 00:20:03.40\00:20:04.67 He says, one generation, won't pass. 00:20:04.70\00:20:07.34 Right, because that generation will all, 00:20:07.37\00:20:09.37 see all these things. Thank you. 00:20:09.40\00:20:11.47 "Assuredly I say it to you" verse 34, 00:20:11.50\00:20:13.52 "This generation" that is the one it sees all these things 00:20:13.55\00:20:17.55 "Will by no means pass till all these things take place." 00:20:17.58\00:20:21.37 And speaking of that generation 00:20:21.40\00:20:23.57 will see the Lord in the cloud's coming. 00:20:23.60\00:20:25.82 So we are not denying any of the events 00:20:25.85\00:20:27.22 that happened, Lisbon earthquake. 00:20:27.25\00:20:30.27 Somebody talked about that as the great earthquake. 00:20:30.30\00:20:32.44 Well, now have we had any greater earthquakes since then. 00:20:32.47\00:20:35.55 Just a few years ago, I think it was December 26, 00:20:35.58\00:20:39.05 2004, 2005 around that time, with that earthquake 00:20:39.08\00:20:42.40 that happened in the Pacific Rim 00:20:42.43\00:20:44.62 and over 300, 000 lives were lost from the ensuing tsunami, 00:20:44.65\00:20:50.80 way larger than 60,000 people died in the Lisbon earthquake. 00:20:50.83\00:20:54.60 The earthquake in China. 00:20:54.63\00:20:55.67 Okay, earthquake in-- Okay, so we've had much huger 00:20:55.70\00:21:00.53 and I am using this word loosely here, 00:21:00.60\00:21:02.02 much larger earthquakes than the earthquake in 1755. 00:21:02.05\00:21:07.25 You know, another point here too is, 00:21:07.28\00:21:09.20 that not only does the Lord work in shadows, 00:21:09.23\00:21:12.69 or type and then antitype, on a global scale. 00:21:12.72\00:21:17.37 What we find here even with disasters, 00:21:17.40\00:21:19.61 is that God gives us glimpses 00:21:19.64\00:21:22.49 of what will come during the time of trouble, 00:21:22.52\00:21:24.61 through the natural disasters, that have been coming, 00:21:24.64\00:21:26.85 we've been seeing those over time. 00:21:26.88\00:21:29.07 But this person, references The Desire of Ages 00:21:29.10\00:21:32.66 and if you also references to Great Controversy, 00:21:32.69\00:21:34.29 you'll find that what we find on a local scale around the world 00:21:34.32\00:21:39.01 will happen globally even with disasters at the end of time. 00:21:39.04\00:21:42.52 Because she describes, thousands of cities will be destroyed. 00:21:42.55\00:21:47.22 In other words wiped out, thousands. Right. 00:21:47.25\00:21:50.20 That is much larger than anything we've experienced 00:21:50.23\00:21:53.93 on a individual local scale even if it does kill 300,000 people. 00:21:53.96\00:21:59.35 We are talking about millions, at a time wiped out 00:21:59.38\00:22:02.28 and perishing in the city. Right. 00:22:02.31\00:22:04.46 Repeated thousands of times. 00:22:04.49\00:22:06.36 So the time of trouble that is coming, 00:22:06.39\00:22:08.73 and I am not trying to scare everybody, 00:22:08.76\00:22:10.47 is going to be so much greater. 00:22:10.50\00:22:12.10 So much more significant and powerful, 00:22:12.13\00:22:14.53 than anything this world has ever seen. 00:22:14.56\00:22:17.43 And you and I can go into lot more detail, 00:22:17.46\00:22:20.34 on what it's going to be about, 00:22:20.37\00:22:22.15 but anyway that's the context of Christ description 00:22:22.18\00:22:27.28 of last day events there in Mathew 24. 00:22:27.31\00:22:29.63 And we were in Revelation 7, a moment ago. 00:22:29.66\00:22:33.07 I want you to look at that very briefly here. 00:22:33.10\00:22:35.14 Because Revelation 7 also brings in the very same phrase, 00:22:35.17\00:22:39.32 Great Tribulation. That's right. 00:22:39.35\00:22:42.49 The 144,000 have a function, they are not just sealed 00:22:42.52\00:22:48.26 because they are chosen as the first fruits. 00:22:48.29\00:22:52.26 They have a function and they're chosen 00:22:52.29\00:22:54.94 to proclaim a message, but to whom 00:22:54.97\00:22:58.82 and then what's going to be the response 00:22:58.85\00:23:00.55 to the proclamation of this message? 00:23:00.58\00:23:02.91 Well that's spelled out in Revelation. 00:23:02.94\00:23:04.89 Because 00:23:04.92\00:23:07.03 John shows another group, look at verse 9. 00:23:07.06\00:23:10.09 "After these things I looked and behold a great multitude, 00:23:10.12\00:23:15.49 which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, 00:23:15.52\00:23:21.02 and tongues" and where are they? 00:23:21.05\00:23:23.11 "Standing before the throne, and before the Lamb, 00:23:23.14\00:23:26.13 clothed with white robes with palm branches in their hands. 00:23:26.16\00:23:30.97 And crying out with a loud voice, 00:23:31.00\00:23:32.36 saying, salvation belongs to our God 00:23:32.39\00:23:35.22 who sits on the throne, in to the Lamb. 00:23:35.25\00:23:38.79 All the angels sit around the throne, 00:23:38.82\00:23:40.46 and the elders and the four living creatures, 00:23:40.49\00:23:42.19 and fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God," 00:23:42.22\00:23:45.79 and it says what they said, 00:23:45.82\00:23:47.13 but now look at verse 13 because the question is, 00:23:47.16\00:23:50.17 "Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, 00:23:50.20\00:23:54.30 Who are these arrayed in white robes?" 00:23:54.33\00:23:57.23 and here's the key question, "And where did they come from?" 00:23:57.26\00:24:02.03 "And I said to him, Sir, you know, so he said to me, 00:24:02.06\00:24:05.34 These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, 00:24:05.37\00:24:10.74 and washed their robes, and made them white 00:24:10.77\00:24:13.27 in the blood of the Lamb." 00:24:13.30\00:24:15.08 Notice it says, these are the ones who come out. 00:24:15.11\00:24:17.96 Yes. Now read Revelation 18:1. 00:24:17.99\00:24:22.92 How do they come out? How do they come out? 00:24:22.95\00:24:26.43 It's one of the commands 00:24:26.46\00:24:28.43 given by God's people in those last days. Actually verse 4. 00:24:28.46\00:24:33.17 Verse 4 it says, "The voice came from heaven, 00:24:33.20\00:24:35.44 saying, Come out of her, 00:24:35.47\00:24:36.78 my people, that lest you share in her sins, 00:24:36.81\00:24:39.53 and lest you receive of her plagues." 00:24:39.56\00:24:41.39 Okay, now notice the Bible says, 00:24:41.42\00:24:43.17 the voice came from heaven. 00:24:43.20\00:24:44.71 You got to keep this in mind. 00:24:44.74\00:24:46.53 God is not going to be yelling down from the sky. 00:24:46.56\00:24:50.86 In the same way the messages of the three angles 00:24:50.89\00:24:54.09 that talked about, flying in the midst of heaven. 00:24:54.12\00:24:56.47 I want to put the context to that. 00:24:56.50\00:24:58.82 So the-when it says, the voice from the heaven. 00:24:58.85\00:25:01.82 In another words, this is heaven's message to you. 00:25:01.85\00:25:05.30 This is not a loudspeaker coming from heaven, 00:25:05.33\00:25:08.18 this is heaven's message, 00:25:08.21\00:25:09.34 just as the first angel flying in the midst of heaven, 00:25:09.37\00:25:12.11 the second angel, the third angel. 00:25:12.14\00:25:14.09 And you notice the second angel says, 00:25:14.12\00:25:15.47 'Babylon has fallen' but it's not said 00:25:15.50\00:25:17.56 with a loud voice in Revelation 14. 00:25:17.59\00:25:20.91 It's said with a loud voice in Revelation 18, 00:25:20.94\00:25:23.96 and that's the reason why, 144,000 are sealed. 00:25:23.99\00:25:28.17 And I know, John, 00:25:28.20\00:25:29.26 we could do this for the rest of the program. 00:25:29.29\00:25:32.06 The reason why the 144,000 are sealed 00:25:32.09\00:25:33.88 as they sent this message, the message reached 00:25:33.91\00:25:36.92 its pinnacle at that particular point. 00:25:36.95\00:25:39.92 Because the entire earth is now ripe for the harvest. 00:25:39.95\00:25:45.01 Come out of her my people, and that's why Revelation 7:14 00:25:45.04\00:25:49.47 says, "They came out" they came out, what timeframe? 00:25:49.50\00:25:53.75 Out of the great tribulation. 00:25:53.78\00:25:56.25 And that large multitude that's going to come out of the great, 00:25:56.28\00:25:59.81 that's going to come out and join the people of God, 00:25:59.84\00:26:02.12 are going to come out during a time of great tribulation, 00:26:02.15\00:26:05.21 that for God's, in God's plan, He's going to cut it short. 00:26:05.24\00:26:10.78 So that no flesh-- so that some flesh will be saved. 00:26:10.81\00:26:14.79 Because the time is so severe. 00:26:14.82\00:26:16.16 Yeah, it's going to be terribly severe. 00:26:16.19\00:26:18.30 You've anything else. 00:26:18.33\00:26:19.36 Well, I think we are about ready to go with our topic, today. 00:26:19.39\00:26:22.58 Okay. Which I am excited about. 00:26:22.61\00:26:24.41 Let me go ahead and ask if anybody has any questions, 00:26:24.44\00:26:26.38 you know, we talked about a lot here today. 00:26:26.41\00:26:29.38 We didn't get to all the questions but, you know, 00:26:29.41\00:26:31.44 we do have some upcoming programs, 00:26:31.47\00:26:32.85 so you do stay tuned for that next week. 00:26:32.88\00:26:35.71 But if you have any more Bible questions, 00:26:35.74\00:26:38.33 may be about the tribulation, about the time of trouble, 00:26:38.36\00:26:40.57 about the 144,000, great multitude, 00:26:40.60\00:26:42.86 or anything that we talked about here today. 00:26:42.89\00:26:44.36 Send those questions to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:26:44.39\00:26:48.06 that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:26:48.09\00:26:50.60 And either Pastor John or Pastor John will respond. 00:26:50.63\00:26:53.80 We really appreciate that very much. 00:26:53.83\00:26:56.18 Now, John, this topic of, why did Jesus have to die. 00:26:56.21\00:26:59.94 Since I did so much talking here, 00:26:59.97\00:27:01.21 let me go ahead and let you chime in on this one. 00:27:01.24\00:27:03.98 Well, it's a topic that, a question, 00:27:04.01\00:27:06.45 that I think needs to be answered. 00:27:06.48\00:27:10.39 Because there are so many Christians throughout the world 00:27:10.42\00:27:12.93 who have heard very simple answers, 00:27:12.96\00:27:16.04 for why Jesus is their Savior. 00:27:16.07\00:27:18.55 Why they've put their faith and trust in Him, 00:27:18.58\00:27:20.67 to save them from their sins and why he had to die. 00:27:20.70\00:27:25.49 But there is a depth I believe 00:27:25.52\00:27:27.80 to answering that question that we all-- 00:27:27.83\00:27:30.17 that will enhance our salvation experience. Okay. 00:27:30.20\00:27:33.91 That if answered correctly, if we really know, 00:27:33.94\00:27:37.14 why did Jesus, the Son of God have to come to die, 00:27:37.17\00:27:40.68 to pay the price for our sins. 00:27:40.71\00:27:42.74 If we understand that, I think that our life, 00:27:42.77\00:27:45.37 our spiritual life could be transformed in a way that may be 00:27:45.40\00:27:49.32 many are not transformed to this day. 00:27:49.35\00:27:52.70 Because I've asked, I mean as a pastor, 00:27:52.73\00:27:54.12 you asked this question, why do you believe in Jesus? 00:27:54.15\00:27:59.04 You know, well, because Jesus is my Savior. 00:27:59.07\00:28:02.77 You know, He saved me, and He forgave my sins and-- 00:28:02.80\00:28:05.95 What does that mean? How did He forgive your sins? 00:28:05.98\00:28:08.66 Well, these questions become difficult to answer. 00:28:08.69\00:28:11.50 In this program we are going to commit at this question. 00:28:11.53\00:28:14.52 Why did Jesus have to die from difficult angles? 00:28:14.55\00:28:17.74 You and I, I know there's a lot of different 00:28:17.77\00:28:19.06 directions we can go here, and I've had people asked me, 00:28:19.09\00:28:22.28 and I know you've had people asked you. 00:28:22.31\00:28:23.76 How do you plan for these programs? 00:28:23.79\00:28:26.15 You know, what do you guys have a script or what do you do? 00:28:26.18\00:28:28.80 They are always surprised when I say, 00:28:28.83\00:28:30.68 "we don't really plan for these programs." 00:28:30.71\00:28:34.03 These programs are designed, 00:28:34.06\00:28:35.35 I believe to be lead by the Spirit of the God. 00:28:35.38\00:28:38.23 And we come, we talk about a topic beforehand, 00:28:38.26\00:28:40.52 what we like to talk about generally. 00:28:40.55\00:28:42.45 We may bring some text or some things 00:28:42.48\00:28:44.19 may be to held in front of us, but we have no script. 00:28:44.22\00:28:46.88 Right. And today we have no script. 00:28:46.91\00:28:49.35 And so we just want to answer the best we can 00:28:49.38\00:28:51.72 as two pastors in your living room 00:28:51.75\00:28:53.30 or in your vehicle if you're driving, 00:28:53.33\00:28:55.66 answering the question, why did Jesus, have to die? 00:28:55.69\00:28:59.29 And so, John, I just kind of springboard from there, 00:28:59.32\00:29:01.45 and I think, the place to start is, 00:29:01.48\00:29:05.03 this one text, and then we kind of go off with that. Okay. 00:29:05.06\00:29:10.10 Jesus is being described as a Lamb, the Lamb of God. 00:29:10.13\00:29:16.19 And John even proclaimed as he was coming down to the water, 00:29:16.22\00:29:19.77 where he was baptizing, John proclaimed that Jesus, 00:29:19.80\00:29:22.87 behold the Lamb of God, 00:29:22.90\00:29:24.90 who takes away the sin of the world. 00:29:24.93\00:29:29.03 So clearly, we have a lamb associated with sin. 00:29:29.06\00:29:32.34 We have imagery there 00:29:32.37\00:29:33.51 that is associated with the sanctuary service. 00:29:33.54\00:29:36.33 And the ceremonial sacrifices that were going on in Israel 00:29:36.36\00:29:39.28 and have been going on for quite some time. 00:29:39.31\00:29:42.09 But if you go back even before that, 00:29:42.12\00:29:43.55 you'll find that these sacrifices began immediately 00:29:43.58\00:29:46.01 after sin entered the picture. Right. 00:29:46.04\00:29:48.33 Because we have Cain and Abel, and the two altars there. 00:29:48.36\00:29:51.01 And how Cain or how Cain brought the wrong sacrifice 00:29:51.04\00:29:53.82 which was the fruit of his own hand, 00:29:53.85\00:29:55.73 and Abel brought the sacrifice of the lamb, 00:29:55.76\00:29:58.35 which pointed to Christ. 00:29:58.38\00:30:00.75 Even before the whole ceremonial 00:30:00.78\00:30:02.42 sacrificial system came into place, 00:30:02.45\00:30:04.50 at least became the fixture through the law of Moses. 00:30:04.53\00:30:09.32 But let's take a look at one text here in Revelation, 00:30:09.35\00:30:12.50 and we were just in Revelation answering a question. 00:30:12.53\00:30:15.74 But in Revelation 13:8, it says this. 00:30:15.77\00:30:23.69 And this is in reference to the worship, 00:30:23.72\00:30:28.01 initially the worship of this first beast power. 00:30:28.04\00:30:30.27 "All who dwell on the earth will worship him" 00:30:30.30\00:30:32.89 speaking of the first beast, 00:30:32.92\00:30:34.35 "Whose names have not been written in the book of life." 00:30:34.38\00:30:37.73 And then he goes on to say, "Of the Lamb slain 00:30:37.76\00:30:40.61 from how far before" the foundation of the world." 00:30:40.64\00:30:43.44 the foundation of the world. 00:30:43.47\00:30:45.41 Jesus knew that He was going to give up His life. 00:30:45.44\00:30:50.68 He was going to die on man's behalf, 00:30:50.71\00:30:53.14 even before the world was created. 00:30:53.17\00:30:56.08 Now that's an amazing fact to me 00:30:56.11\00:30:57.43 and I know you want to chime in on this little bit, 00:30:57.46\00:30:59.11 but it's an amazing thought to think, 00:30:59.14\00:31:00.25 that even before He created the world, 00:31:00.28\00:31:03.14 before even the world is in its perfect way, 00:31:03.17\00:31:06.92 He came into existence. 00:31:06.95\00:31:08.48 He knew that sin would enter the picture one day 00:31:08.51\00:31:11.45 and that He would have to die, 00:31:11.48\00:31:13.47 He would be slain. Yet He still created us. 00:31:13.50\00:31:17.17 Well, you know, 00:31:17.20\00:31:18.58 that's a beautiful picture to know that 00:31:18.61\00:31:20.24 He had the plan of salvation in place before it was needed, 00:31:20.27\00:31:24.29 but I want to approach it also from this perspective in Romans. 00:31:24.32\00:31:28.27 I think for me, as I springboard into this topic 00:31:28.30\00:31:31.98 "why did Jesus have to die." 00:31:32.01\00:31:34.03 I'm going to go to, what I would referred to as in very broad, 00:31:34.06\00:31:41.09 a very multi-dimensional process but in a very simple text. 00:31:41.12\00:31:48.15 The reason why Jesus had to die was this, 00:31:48.18\00:31:50.67 "For the wages of sin is death." 00:31:50.70\00:31:55.38 Why would you have to die? Well, that's what sin requires. 00:31:55.41\00:31:58.27 For the wages of sin is death. 00:31:58.30\00:32:00.47 Before we even get down to the gift, 00:32:00.50\00:32:02.19 the gift was, what would come after. 00:32:02.22\00:32:04.43 So built into this plan of salvation was two things. 00:32:04.46\00:32:07.82 I have a way to pay the price for what they would do, 00:32:07.85\00:32:11.24 if they do it, and I have a way to bring them back. 00:32:11.27\00:32:14.99 And there's nothing they could do 00:32:15.02\00:32:17.22 to warrant that of themselves. 00:32:17.25\00:32:18.71 It's going to be a gift. Right. 00:32:18.74\00:32:20.30 and so you see salvation, John, is not just a gift, 00:32:20.33\00:32:24.43 but it's a gift to specifically to those who accept this gift, 00:32:24.46\00:32:27.80 and why do we all have to accept it. 00:32:27.83\00:32:29.81 Another verse, you have both verses of verse 23, 00:32:29.84\00:32:33.46 but in two different chapters. 00:32:33.49\00:32:35.14 Romans 3:23, whydo we need Jesus, 00:32:35.17\00:32:42.01 why did He have to die? 00:32:42.04\00:32:43.14 "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." 00:32:43.17\00:32:48.47 So when you look at that, when you begin to see that, 00:32:48.50\00:32:51.36 before we can get into the lamb, 00:32:51.39\00:32:54.48 we are going to get into some very figurative language today, 00:32:54.51\00:32:57.74 even some prophecies that are been fulfilled aboutthe Messiah, 00:32:57.77\00:33:00.40 and how they all fit into the timeframe of why He had to die, 00:33:00.43\00:33:03.74 or the theme of why He had to die. 00:33:03.77\00:33:05.64 The bottom line is, He had to die because of sin. 00:33:05.67\00:33:11.73 You know, you said that. It's a sin, it is a sin problem. 00:33:11.76\00:33:14.50 The sin problem, the sin problem required payment. 00:33:14.53\00:33:18.10 And so somebody say, why do I have to pay? 00:33:18.13\00:33:20.04 Because it requires payment. The wages of sin is death. 00:33:20.07\00:33:24.26 And we'll go to the gift of God in just a moment. 00:33:24.29\00:33:26.47 But to me that's the first thing, 00:33:26.50\00:33:28.19 wages, that's why He had to die. 00:33:28.22\00:33:30.37 And you know what? 00:33:30.40\00:33:31.44 To me, John, it's really, when you think of that 00:33:31.47\00:33:34.82 from the beginning of the world, 00:33:34.85\00:33:36.25 when Adam and Eve fell into transgression. 00:33:36.28\00:33:40.59 There was no doubt in the mind of the Father, 00:33:40.62\00:33:43.54 the Son and the Holy Spirit, that the Redeemer's plan, 00:33:43.57\00:33:46.30 that was now in place, it wasn't, 00:33:46.33\00:33:49.48 they didn't have to figure it out, 00:33:49.51\00:33:51.03 it was now in effect. 00:33:51.06\00:33:52.84 And you know what's so wonderful about that, 00:33:52.87\00:33:55.31 as people talked about Jesus' coming, 00:33:55.34\00:33:57.20 'you know, one day the Messiah would come' 00:33:57.23\00:33:59.11 one day the messiah would come. 00:33:59.14\00:34:00.43 Well, you know what's so beautiful about that. 00:34:00.46\00:34:01.85 It wasn't a one day thing. 00:34:01.88\00:34:03.46 Jesus came the day they sinned He showed up. 00:34:03.49\00:34:07.55 And go with us to Genesis 3, 00:34:07.58\00:34:08.85 and I would just jump back to you. 00:34:08.88\00:34:10.47 Would you go and do that. 00:34:10.50\00:34:11.81 Let's go to Genesis 3, and what I'll say to is, 00:34:11.84\00:34:13.97 we're turning there to Genesis 3 00:34:14.00\00:34:15.79 is that if there was no plan in place, 00:34:15.82\00:34:19.48 when Eve sinned she would have dropped dead on the spot. 00:34:19.51\00:34:24.87 Very good point. Think about it. 00:34:24.90\00:34:26.25 I mean, if there was no plan in place, 00:34:26.28\00:34:29.17 God's mercy could not have been put in effect. 00:34:29.20\00:34:34.10 Right, there was no padding at all. 00:34:34.13\00:34:35.32 There was no room, no latitude. 00:34:35.35\00:34:37.64 But she did not drop dead, Adam did not drop dead. 00:34:37.67\00:34:41.09 Instead God came looking for them, 00:34:41.12\00:34:43.97 because He had a plan. That's right. 00:34:44.00\00:34:46.79 And that's the wonderful thing about the Lord. 00:34:46.82\00:34:49.17 You know, He showed up-- 00:34:49.20\00:34:50.45 He didn't show up necessarily 4,000 years later, 00:34:50.48\00:34:53.44 which in fact we look at the redemption of the cross, 00:34:53.47\00:34:56.20 truly 4,000 plus years later, but He came that day, 00:34:56.23\00:34:59.74 and I like the way that Genesis 3 brings this out, 00:34:59.77\00:35:03.31 it says, "And I heard," verse 8, 00:35:03.34\00:35:07.84 "And I heard the sound of the Lord God 00:35:07.87\00:35:11.89 walking in the garden in the cool of the day, 00:35:11.92\00:35:15.84 and Adam and his wife hid themselves 00:35:15.87\00:35:18.31 from the presence of the Lord amongst the trees of the garden. 00:35:18.34\00:35:22.41 And the Lord God called to Adam, and said to him, where are you?" 00:35:22.44\00:35:27.31 And you know why he hid, while you read the rest of the story, 00:35:27.34\00:35:29.86 he hid because he was afraid. 00:35:29.89\00:35:31.53 I'm going to stop at the point right there, 00:35:31.56\00:35:33.74 the Lord came and called Adam, where are you? 00:35:33.77\00:35:36.82 And you know what, that has been the theme of salvation. 00:35:36.85\00:35:39.94 The Lord coming after us, not us going after the Lord. 00:35:39.97\00:35:44.50 That's why I'm always turned off when people say, 00:35:44.53\00:35:45.98 well, I'll decide whether or not I went to church, 00:35:46.01\00:35:49.15 and that's where I found Jesus. 00:35:49.18\00:35:51.02 No, He found you before you even entered the building. 00:35:51.05\00:35:53.69 Where are you, get you to where you're supposed to be. 00:35:53.72\00:35:56.68 Even though Adam and Eve sinned. 00:35:56.71\00:35:59.07 Right. God looked for them. 00:35:59.10\00:36:01.73 And here's the grace of God is bigger than our sin. 00:36:01.76\00:36:07.26 That's right. 00:36:07.29\00:36:08.72 But it doesn't make insignificant our sin. No. 00:36:08.75\00:36:13.16 Sin is an issue that had to be dealt with, 00:36:13.19\00:36:14.88 and if you want any other, there is no better answer 00:36:14.91\00:36:17.65 I would say, to that, to knowing that's the case, 00:36:17.68\00:36:21.32 than the fact that Jesus had died because of our sin. 00:36:21.35\00:36:24.31 Right. He died to take away our sins. 00:36:24.34\00:36:26.94 So sin is a big issue for the Lord, 00:36:26.97\00:36:30.16 and often, you know, John, as a pastor, 00:36:30.19\00:36:31.84 you know the most difficult sermons 00:36:31.87\00:36:33.38 for us to preach are sermons about sin. 00:36:33.41\00:36:36.45 'Cause people don't want to hear about that. Yeah. 00:36:36.48\00:36:39.45 They don't want to hear about their sins. No. 00:36:39.48\00:36:43.00 And in fact last Sabbath we had communion. 00:36:43.03\00:36:47.35 And communion is the time where we can take some latitude there 00:36:47.38\00:36:50.82 to talk about sin, because Jesus did, 00:36:50.85\00:36:52.97 you know, it's all about Jesus' death. 00:36:53.00\00:36:54.47 His broken body. He shed blood for us. 00:36:54.50\00:36:57.16 And it's hard to go through a communion 00:36:57.19\00:36:58.38 without thinking or talking about sin. 00:36:58.41\00:37:00.83 So I took some opportunity to talk about that, 00:37:00.86\00:37:03.20 and one of the questions we looked at was, 00:37:03.23\00:37:05.87 why did Jesus have to die. 00:37:05.90\00:37:07.81 Why are we here doing this, you know, 00:37:07.84\00:37:09.99 partaking of the bread and the juice here 00:37:10.02\00:37:12.84 representing Christ's body and His blood. 00:37:12.87\00:37:16.24 We are doing that because we are sinners. 00:37:16.27\00:37:19.45 And we will be sinners until we are glorified. 00:37:19.48\00:37:23.94 That's right. And so sin exists even today. 00:37:23.97\00:37:27.76 Although it was dealt with in two different phases, 00:37:27.79\00:37:30.29 we have old covenant where it was dealt with by the sacrifices 00:37:30.32\00:37:34.29 the ceremonies that pointed to the Lamb of God, 00:37:34.32\00:37:37.00 who would come and take away the sin of the world. 00:37:37.03\00:37:40.52 Before Christ dealt with in type, 00:37:40.55\00:37:43.33 which is by the shedding of the blood of goats and bulls 00:37:43.36\00:37:46.11 and the other things that, they used for sacrifices then 00:37:46.14\00:37:50.27 and then after Christ came, 00:37:50.30\00:37:52.34 the sin problem is still being dealt with by Jesus-- 00:37:52.37\00:37:55.54 in Hebrews it's talking about, in the heavenly sanctuary 00:37:55.57\00:37:58.26 whereby His own blood shed for us, 00:37:58.29\00:38:00.98 He applies that still for us in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:38:01.01\00:38:04.46 for the sins that we commit to this day. 00:38:04.49\00:38:06.43 And, John, what amazes me, is that we have any debate 00:38:06.46\00:38:11.52 whatsoever, as to whether or not, 00:38:11.55\00:38:15.41 the law of God is still in effect. 00:38:15.44\00:38:19.54 That's a good one, John. 00:38:19.57\00:38:20.87 Because if Jesus is still dealing with our sin problem, 00:38:20.90\00:38:24.29 a law must still be in effect, but if there's no law in effect, 00:38:24.32\00:38:28.83 we are not sinners. That's right. 00:38:28.86\00:38:30.86 Where there's no law, the Bible says, there is no sin. 00:38:30.89\00:38:34.11 There can't be-- There cannot be-- 00:38:34.14\00:38:37.40 if a police officer pulls you over 00:38:37.43\00:38:39.74 and says, you were speeding. 00:38:39.77\00:38:43.08 He will pull you over anywhere, 00:38:43.11\00:38:44.64 except on the autobahn for speeding, 00:38:44.67\00:38:47.39 because there's no law for speeding. 00:38:47.42\00:38:49.27 I also learned this in this, 00:38:49.30\00:38:50.64 if this is not true, somebody let me know, 00:38:50.67\00:38:53.48 may be not in the city of Manila. 00:38:53.51\00:38:55.51 I am sure that you can't drive 00:38:55.54\00:38:56.57 through Manila, Philippines wildly, 00:38:56.60\00:38:59.24 but I notice as I was driving in the Philippines, 00:38:59.27\00:39:01.63 one of the drivers said to me, we have no speed limits here. 00:39:01.66\00:39:06.00 And I thought, you know, I haven't seen any. 00:39:06.03\00:39:09.41 He said, you know, they figured, we know how to drive, 00:39:09.44\00:39:13.36 we are not going to-- 00:39:13.39\00:39:14.90 I mean there are some people that drive really crazy, 00:39:14.93\00:39:16.50 it depends on where you are, 00:39:16.53\00:39:18.29 quite a difference in the outer provinces, 00:39:18.32\00:39:22.23 as compared to Manila. 00:39:22.26\00:39:23.57 But people do drive with some, aggressiveness. 00:39:23.60\00:39:27.15 My point being made is that if there were no laws 00:39:27.18\00:39:30.51 against speeding then you couldn't be stopped 00:39:30.54\00:39:33.47 and given a citation for speeding. 00:39:33.50\00:39:35.71 There could be no law, there could be no sin 00:39:35.74\00:39:38.42 against what's existing in the world today, 00:39:38.45\00:39:40.51 if there is no law. 00:39:40.54\00:39:42.40 Jesus would not have to die 00:39:42.43\00:39:44.21 if there wasn't a law in effect that city had to. 00:39:44.24\00:39:46.78 And yet people, Christians today teach that, 00:39:46.81\00:39:50.05 by Jesus' death on the cross, He did away with the law. 00:39:50.08\00:39:55.30 I mean if you understand why Jesus had to die, 00:39:55.33\00:39:58.12 that question doesn't even come into play. 00:39:58.15\00:40:01.70 Because we don't get a ticket and then the officers turns 00:40:01.73\00:40:05.98 and says to us, now that you had your ticket, 00:40:06.01\00:40:07.98 the law isn't in effect anymore, 00:40:08.01\00:40:09.59 go out speed as much as you want. 00:40:09.62\00:40:10.95 I mean, that's insane. Right. 00:40:10.98\00:40:13.29 We get a ticket to remind us-- It's backward. 00:40:13.32\00:40:15.51 That the law is still in effect. Right. 00:40:15.54\00:40:17.33 So we come to Jesus, and we receive from Him forgiveness, 00:40:17.36\00:40:21.26 because we are reminded by the law 00:40:21.29\00:40:23.29 that is still in effect, that we are sinners still. 00:40:23.32\00:40:25.79 It's almost like Jesus died and saying, you know what, 00:40:25.82\00:40:27.62 I had to die to get rid of this law because it's ridiculous. 00:40:27.65\00:40:31.91 And then but in the reality of it if the law was an issue, 00:40:31.94\00:40:35.82 He would have gotten rid of it 00:40:35.85\00:40:37.14 rather than gotten rid of Himself. 00:40:37.17\00:40:39.27 That is, He would have killed the law, 00:40:39.30\00:40:41.85 rather than had to be killed. 00:40:41.88\00:40:44.09 And if the law could have been changed, 00:40:44.12\00:40:46.13 He would have changed it after sin, 00:40:46.16\00:40:48.23 so they wouldn't have to die. 00:40:48.26\00:40:50.72 In fact, one of the texts that I wrote down here, this is, 00:40:50.75\00:40:53.58 I was jotting down some notes was, God Himself says, 00:40:53.61\00:40:56.73 "I am God, I do not change." Right. 00:40:56.76\00:41:00.48 And His law, representing His character, 00:41:00.51\00:41:03.22 we see as there's some all kinds of verses we can go into here, 00:41:03.25\00:41:07.11 you know Exodus 33:34 where Jesus meeting 00:41:07.14\00:41:10.66 or God is meeting with Moses on the mountain, 00:41:10.69\00:41:13.49 and Moses says, "Show me Your glory." 00:41:13.52\00:41:16.40 And so He says, "I'll make all my goodness pass before you." 00:41:16.43\00:41:19.52 And what does He do? 00:41:19.55\00:41:20.58 He takes two tablets of stone-- And give it to him. 00:41:20.61\00:41:23.20 Pens it out of the rock, gives them to Moses 00:41:23.23\00:41:25.20 and he proclaims His name, 00:41:25.23\00:41:27.69 which is His character and gives him His law. 00:41:27.72\00:41:30.66 So His law is as much a part of Him, 00:41:30.69\00:41:32.53 He cannot get rid of that as much as He can change it. 00:41:32.56\00:41:36.19 And so one of the reasons, Jesus had to die 00:41:36.22\00:41:38.88 was because the law is unchangeable, 00:41:38.91\00:41:42.33 it is immutable, it cannot be changed, 00:41:42.36\00:41:44.76 so Jesus paid the price for you and for me. 00:41:44.79\00:41:49.14 So for us to say, well, I have accepted Jesus as my savior, 00:41:49.17\00:41:51.73 so I don't have to obey the law anymore, 00:41:51.76\00:41:53.17 I don't have to keep the law, 00:41:53.20\00:41:54.23 it's not in effect for me any more. 00:41:54.26\00:41:55.50 It's not reading salvation, or the plan, 00:41:55.53\00:41:59.09 God's plan of salvation correctly throughout scripture. 00:41:59.12\00:42:03.64 Going into another passage in the Bible in Titus. 00:42:03.67\00:42:06.91 That's right, after the book of 2 Timothy, 00:42:06.94\00:42:08.39 I want you to look at that with us Titus 2:11-14, 00:42:08.42\00:42:14.38 because you know, Ephesians 2:8 and 9 says 00:42:14.41\00:42:17.04 "For by grace are you saved through faith. 00:42:17.07\00:42:20.55 And that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, 00:42:20.58\00:42:23.04 Not of works, lest any man should boast." 00:42:23.07\00:42:25.07 So we have this saving relationship with Christ, 00:42:25.10\00:42:27.14 which is based on His grace. 00:42:27.17\00:42:29.31 But now, how many of us are in need of that grace. 00:42:29.34\00:42:32.64 I want you to read for us, John, Titus 2:11 down to verse 14. 00:42:32.67\00:42:37.86 Okay. And I'll emphasize that. 00:42:37.89\00:42:39.41 "For the grace of God that bring salvation 00:42:39.44\00:42:42.01 has appeared to all men." 00:42:42.04\00:42:43.68 Right, now why? 00:42:43.71\00:42:44.74 Because all have sinned. Go ahead. 00:42:44.77\00:42:46.59 "Teaching us" now listen to this, 00:42:46.62\00:42:48.07 grace of God is also teaching us something. Right. 00:42:48.10\00:42:51.15 Teaches us "That, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, 00:42:51.18\00:42:55.51 that we should live soberly, righteously, 00:42:55.54\00:42:57.68 and Godly, in this present age. 00:42:57.71\00:43:00.81 Looking for the blessed hope, and glorious appearing 00:43:00.84\00:43:03.16 of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:43:03.19\00:43:06.04 Who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us 00:43:06.07\00:43:08.55 from every lawless deed and purify for Himself, 00:43:08.58\00:43:11.89 His own special people, zealous for good works." 00:43:11.92\00:43:15.69 John, this tells me 00:43:15.72\00:43:17.27 that salvation is more than just a one time deal. Right. 00:43:17.30\00:43:20.79 Salvation is something that, 00:43:20.82\00:43:22.72 God brings through by His grace to us every day of our life. 00:43:22.75\00:43:26.39 Right, because we are learning. 00:43:26.42\00:43:28.31 Matter of fact-- the whole, 00:43:28.34\00:43:29.40 and you made references to the sanctuary a moment ago, 00:43:29.43\00:43:31.22 the Lamb, that take away the sin of the world. 00:43:31.25\00:43:33.21 That entire system was a system of learning. 00:43:33.24\00:43:35.51 They learned through that system of sacrifices, 00:43:35.54\00:43:38.12 what the whole process of sacrifice, 00:43:38.15\00:43:40.65 what the whole process of salvation was all about. 00:43:40.68\00:43:44.31 Not only was the lamb slain, but notice something here, 00:43:44.34\00:43:47.81 and I want to look at verse 14 again, because it says, 00:43:47.84\00:43:50.99 "Who gave Himself for us, the lamb being slain" 00:43:51.02\00:43:54.25 that's the beginning. "He gave Himself for us", 00:43:54.28\00:43:56.85 but what was the whole purpose of giving Himself for us? 00:43:56.88\00:43:59.94 Not only the second answer would be, 00:43:59.97\00:44:02.16 the first answer would be 00:44:02.19\00:44:03.22 the reason why Jesus had to die is because of sin. 00:44:03.25\00:44:05.28 The second answer would be, to redeem us. Yes. 00:44:05.31\00:44:08.72 Okay, the second answer would be to redeem. 00:44:08.75\00:44:11.09 He didn't just die for our sins but He died to redeem us. 00:44:11.12\00:44:16.01 You know the word 'redeem' there. 00:44:16.04\00:44:17.34 You ever went to buy the army bases, 00:44:17.37\00:44:20.00 people taking radios and cameras 00:44:20.03\00:44:22.49 and they get this ticket at the pawn shop there, 00:44:22.52\00:44:25.64 and they go back and they say, well, 00:44:25.67\00:44:28.40 I've come to claim my item, that I put on, 00:44:28.43\00:44:30.62 I needed, you know, $40, because I was short. 00:44:30.65\00:44:33.34 That has redemption value. 00:44:33.37\00:44:35.38 So Jesus came to redeem us, 00:44:35.41\00:44:38.57 but notice what He came to redeem us from, 00:44:38.60\00:44:40.75 every lawless deed. 00:44:40.78\00:44:43.17 That means, all of those deeds 00:44:43.20\00:44:44.61 that were out of harmony with the law, 00:44:44.64\00:44:47.43 is what I've come to redeem you from. 00:44:47.46\00:44:49.82 Now are we still being redeemed today? Absolutely. 00:44:49.85\00:44:52.10 So there are deeds that are still outside of the law. 00:44:52.13\00:44:54.24 That's right, and we're talking about here really is, 00:44:54.27\00:44:57.66 Christ dying for our sins and paying the penalty. Right. 00:44:57.69\00:45:01.68 But as you said, several times before too, 00:45:01.71\00:45:04.08 it's not just redeeming us from the penalty of sin. Right. 00:45:04.11\00:45:07.40 Which is death, He is redeeming us from the power of sin. Right. 00:45:07.43\00:45:11.53 which is giving us that holy life today. To everyday. 00:45:11.56\00:45:15.21 So Christ death is not just about justifying us, 00:45:15.24\00:45:19.90 it's about sanctifying us, it's about changing our life. 00:45:19.93\00:45:24.31 So if we just depend upon Christ 00:45:24.34\00:45:26.12 and just say, well, I believe in Jesus 00:45:26.15\00:45:28.12 because He forgave me of my sins and I don't have to die anymore. 00:45:28.15\00:45:31.67 And that's as far as we go, 00:45:31.70\00:45:32.95 we miss the other entire half 00:45:32.98\00:45:35.26 of the reason for Christ dying on the cross. 00:45:35.29\00:45:40.02 The other reason is that everyday I wake up, 00:45:40.05\00:45:42.81 I'm going to be tempted, this flesh is still mortal. 00:45:42.84\00:45:47.51 It's going to pull me constantly to sin. 00:45:47.54\00:45:51.98 And the only one that can deliver me from that is Jesus. 00:45:52.01\00:45:56.32 And what He has done for me. 00:45:56.35\00:45:59.54 And so, you know, 00:45:59.57\00:46:01.38 this part I think sometimes is overlooked. 00:46:01.41\00:46:04.68 This part of why Jesus died for us is overlooked. 00:46:04.71\00:46:07.95 He died, so that we might also be delivered 00:46:07.98\00:46:11.84 from the power of sin in our life. That's right. 00:46:11.87\00:46:13.78 As a matter of fact, I have the three P's 00:46:13.81\00:46:15.33 and John just reiterated that, and I liked that. 00:46:15.36\00:46:18.41 Once from the penalty of sin, that is justification, 00:46:18.44\00:46:22.49 then the power of sin, that's sanctification, 00:46:22.52\00:46:25.77 then finally from the presence of sin, 00:46:25.80\00:46:27.77 that's when He comes back, that's glorification. 00:46:27.80\00:46:30.17 Another way I like to look at that is, 00:46:30.20\00:46:31.62 Jesus first saves us from the curse of sin, 00:46:31.65\00:46:34.38 that's justification. 00:46:34.41\00:46:35.99 Then everyday from the confines of sin, 00:46:36.02\00:46:39.46 because sin will confine you. 00:46:39.49\00:46:41.53 That's daily, but then finally 00:46:41.56\00:46:42.99 He will save us from the condition of sin. 00:46:43.02\00:46:45.51 There will be no more condition. 00:46:45.54\00:46:47.58 He's going to change the world and make it, 00:46:47.61\00:46:49.56 He's going to change that whole sinful atmosphere 00:46:49.59\00:46:52.75 and make it sinless. 00:46:52.78\00:46:54.67 The conditions of sin will be finally erased, 00:46:54.70\00:46:56.87 so I have some C's with that also. 00:46:56.90\00:46:58.69 That's good. But let's go to the next part. 00:46:58.72\00:47:01.58 Now the spring boarding off of your last text there, 00:47:01.61\00:47:04.75 we are talking about that God is calling us to a holy life. 00:47:04.78\00:47:09.04 I use this text in my last message 00:47:09.07\00:47:10.99 with our congregation here as we were preparing for, 00:47:11.02\00:47:15.22 for communion and it's found in 1 Peter, 00:47:15.25\00:47:19.28 1 Peter 2:21. All right. 00:47:19.31\00:47:26.03 You know there are many today that wonder 00:47:26.06\00:47:27.75 what's God's calling is on their life. 00:47:27.78\00:47:31.06 You know, why does God have me where He has me today. 00:47:31.09\00:47:34.42 What is He called me to do in life? 00:47:34.45\00:47:37.25 And I like the way the Peter start with this, John. 00:47:37.28\00:47:39.76 In verse 21 it says, "For to this you were called." 00:47:39.79\00:47:43.05 Okay. It's like okay, now I am listening. 00:47:43.08\00:47:45.50 And if I am reading this text, I perked up 00:47:45.53\00:47:47.34 and I said okay, I am listening now. 00:47:47.37\00:47:49.88 "For the what purpose was I called." Right. 00:47:49.91\00:47:52.41 "Because Christ also suffered for us, 00:47:52.44\00:47:54.96 leaving us an example, okay. 00:47:54.99\00:47:59.05 That you should follow His steps. 00:47:59.08\00:48:02.25 Who committed no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth." 00:48:02.28\00:48:05.40 Okay, so we are supposed to follow his example 00:48:05.43\00:48:07.69 by committing no sin and not allowing ourselves to deceive. 00:48:07.72\00:48:12.02 And who, when he was reviled, did not revile and return." 00:48:12.05\00:48:15.57 You means, I don't lash back, 00:48:15.60\00:48:17.15 like Jesus didn't lash out and back at somebody. 00:48:17.18\00:48:19.97 "And when he suffered, he did not threaten 00:48:20.00\00:48:22.65 but committed himself to him who judges righteously." 00:48:22.68\00:48:25.84 So we do things differently than the world does them. 00:48:25.87\00:48:28.91 And then look at this, verse 24, 00:48:28.94\00:48:31.37 "Who himself bore our sins in his own body on a tree" 00:48:31.40\00:48:34.95 referring to the cross, why did Jesus have to die? 00:48:34.98\00:48:37.86 "That we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness, 00:48:37.89\00:48:42.68 by whose stripes you were healed." 00:48:42.71\00:48:44.91 You see, Jesus died for us. 00:48:44.94\00:48:47.74 And He is calling us notice this to this you were called, 00:48:47.77\00:48:50.61 He's calling us to die to our sins as well. 00:48:50.64\00:48:56.34 So somehow Jesus is dying on that cross and in His death, 00:48:56.37\00:49:01.61 He is also calling us to die to our sins as well. 00:49:01.64\00:49:07.64 And so we find text after text, Paul talks about how-- 00:49:07.67\00:49:11.82 he no longer lives, but its Christ who lives in him. 00:49:11.85\00:49:15.48 Because this flesh that he lives in now he's died to, 00:49:15.51\00:49:18.98 because he's now living in the spirit. 00:49:19.01\00:49:21.25 And several other times 00:49:21.28\00:49:22.31 he talks about how we are in Christ, 00:49:22.34\00:49:25.64 as He is dying on the cross, our sins are in Him, 00:49:25.67\00:49:28.49 we are dying on to our sins, by the cross as well. 00:49:28.52\00:49:33.77 And I have some of those texts here, 00:49:33.80\00:49:35.39 and we could probably, you are probably 00:49:35.42\00:49:36.65 looking up at one of them or several of them, 00:49:36.68\00:49:39.42 but Galatians, let see Galatians 6:14 00:49:39.45\00:49:42.43 I have that one jotted down here. 00:49:42.46\00:49:44.25 We'll just give you a few here to emphasize this point. 00:49:44.28\00:49:48.75 Another one I want to add-- You have another one there. 00:49:48.78\00:49:50.09 Another one I want to add, 00:49:50.12\00:49:51.26 He calls us not only to, He didn't come just to die 00:49:51.29\00:49:55.04 because of sin, He came to redeem us 00:49:55.07\00:49:58.62 and I want to build further on what you've just talked about. 00:49:58.65\00:50:03.21 Calling us to righteousness. 00:50:03.24\00:50:05.63 He's also come to make us righteous. 00:50:05.66\00:50:09.25 Why else He had to die, 00:50:09.28\00:50:11.17 and the dying part was the payment. 00:50:11.20\00:50:14.36 The Romans, here it is. Let me just read it out. 00:50:14.39\00:50:17.77 I was going to turn to here, 00:50:17.80\00:50:18.83 but let me just go ahead and read it, 00:50:18.86\00:50:19.89 since we're talking about that Romans 6, 00:50:19.92\00:50:24.58 here it is- the third reason. 00:50:24.61\00:50:27.27 You're reading some of the text, I was going to read. 00:50:27.30\00:50:30.07 There we go, how do we get there we have no script. 00:50:30.10\00:50:33.14 Starting with verse 4. 00:50:33.17\00:50:34.74 It says, "Therefore we were buried with him" Romans 6:4, 00:50:34.77\00:50:38.85 "Therefore we were buried with him through baptism into death." 00:50:38.88\00:50:44.01 Notice why did Jesus had to die. We enter into His death. 00:50:44.04\00:50:46.85 He died, we entered into it. But we don't stay dead. 00:50:46.88\00:50:50.19 You know, if you go to a church that's dead, 00:50:50.22\00:50:51.68 they've just been baptized. Yeah. 00:50:51.71\00:50:53.85 They got to be resurrected. 00:50:53.88\00:50:54.91 No, they're still under the water. 00:50:54.94\00:50:57.40 You got to come out of the water. 00:50:57.43\00:50:58.94 Okay, I like that one. 00:50:58.97\00:51:00.60 Water baptism, now they need Holy Spirit baptism. 00:51:00.63\00:51:05.54 "Buried with him through baptism into death, 00:51:05.57\00:51:07.16 that just as Christ was raised from the dead 00:51:07.19\00:51:09.44 by the glory of the Father 00:51:09.47\00:51:11.20 even so we also should walk in newness of life. 00:51:11.23\00:51:14.86 For if we have been united together 00:51:14.89\00:51:16.89 in the likeness of His death, 00:51:16.92\00:51:18.16 certainly we also shall be 00:51:18.19\00:51:19.48 in the likeness of his resurrection." 00:51:19.51\00:51:22.08 So it's not just the deaththing, it's a resurrection thing. 00:51:22.11\00:51:25.62 But not resurrection from the grave, 00:51:25.65\00:51:27.96 but resurrection from the grave of sin. 00:51:27.99\00:51:31.19 The next text, "Knowing this, 00:51:31.22\00:51:32.62 that our old man was crucified with him." 00:51:32.65\00:51:37.38 It talks about, so we shall no longer be slave to sin. 00:51:37.41\00:51:40.26 Right, "that the body of sin" the body of sin, 00:51:40.29\00:51:43.94 you know why it calls it the body of sin? 00:51:43.97\00:51:45.74 Because that's the thing that keeps us bound. 00:51:45.77\00:51:47.97 Remember Romans 7, he says, "O wretched man that I am, 00:51:48.00\00:51:53.46 Who will deliver me," Romans 7:24, 00:51:53.49\00:51:56.22 "Who will deliver me from this body of death?" 00:51:56.25\00:51:59.33 See the body of this death, primarily is the real way, 00:51:59.36\00:52:02.27 it is said the body of this death. 00:52:02.30\00:52:04.12 And, you know, I am besides, 00:52:04.15\00:52:05.73 I am taking a detour here real quick. Okay. 00:52:05.76\00:52:08.12 But some referred that as well, 00:52:08.15\00:52:09.67 we want to get out of this body and go to heaven. 00:52:09.70\00:52:11.93 That's not what Paul was talking about. 00:52:11.96\00:52:13.09 No, not, he's not talking-- 00:52:13.12\00:52:14.15 Paul's talking about being delivered 00:52:14.18\00:52:15.63 from the body of death that keeps on pushing us to sin, 00:52:15.66\00:52:19.79 while we live on this earth. 00:52:19.82\00:52:21.21 Christ came to deliver us from that body, 00:52:21.24\00:52:23.20 so that we might live in righteousness, 00:52:23.23\00:52:25.74 not susceptible to the mortal flesh 00:52:25.77\00:52:28.19 that's always tempting us to sin. 00:52:28.22\00:52:30.28 And in that very same phrase, he talks about, he says, 00:52:30.31\00:52:33.22 "Do not let sin reign your mortal body." 00:52:33.25\00:52:36.76 The mortal body-- the reason why we need Jesus every day, 00:52:36.79\00:52:39.72 and this is something else, 00:52:39.75\00:52:40.78 we need Him for not only for the payment of our sin 00:52:40.81\00:52:44.25 and the redemption but the holy life, 00:52:44.28\00:52:47.96 but what else do we need Him for? 00:52:47.99\00:52:49.51 We need Jesus, another reason why He had to die is, 00:52:49.54\00:52:53.17 there was no ability on our part to do anything righteous. 00:52:53.20\00:52:58.26 So how can we be righteous, 00:52:58.29\00:53:01.81 if we couldn't even deliver ourselves from sin? 00:53:01.84\00:53:05.42 So when the Bible says, 00:53:05.45\00:53:06.48 be there for holy as your father in heaven is holy. 00:53:06.51\00:53:09.64 How can we be holy? 00:53:09.67\00:53:11.25 Jesus, His holiness is imputed to us, 00:53:11.28\00:53:15.12 and then imparted to us. 00:53:15.15\00:53:17.14 What imputed means is, we are in fact-- 00:53:17.17\00:53:21.36 when He imparts His righteousness to us, 00:53:21.39\00:53:23.85 He imparts it to us as a justified saint, 00:53:23.88\00:53:28.70 as a justified sinner, now a saint. 00:53:28.73\00:53:31.73 But then He imputes to us everyday. 00:53:31.76\00:53:34.45 We're now living in His righteousness, 00:53:34.48\00:53:36.93 that's the only way we'd been declared righteous. 00:53:36.96\00:53:39.93 I know we are talking about 00:53:39.96\00:53:41.03 being crucified in Christ on the cross 00:53:41.06\00:53:43.81 and crucifying our flesh and dying to our sin. 00:53:43.84\00:53:47.03 Jesus says it in another way, 00:53:47.06\00:53:49.00 although we're seeing the same thing. 00:53:49.03\00:53:50.27 What passage are you? I am in Mathew 16:24. 00:53:50.30\00:53:53.90 All right, let's go there. 00:53:53.93\00:53:55.89 Mathew 16:24, "Jesus said to his disciples, 00:53:55.92\00:54:00.17 If any one desires to come after me, 00:54:00.20\00:54:02.67 let him deny himself," that is deny that flesh, 00:54:02.70\00:54:07.01 that he's always pulling us in a different direction. 00:54:07.04\00:54:09.64 "Take up his cross, and follow me." 00:54:09.67\00:54:14.06 There's the cross again. That's right. 00:54:14.09\00:54:15.76 Why did Jesus have to die? 00:54:15.79\00:54:17.04 See it's more than just pain, the penalty for our sins 00:54:17.07\00:54:19.28 is to deliver us from this sin even today. 00:54:19.31\00:54:22.71 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, 00:54:22.74\00:54:26.82 but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." 00:54:26.85\00:54:31.87 So in the cross Jesus is calling us as well, 00:54:31.90\00:54:36.72 not only to accept his death on our behalf 00:54:36.75\00:54:39.36 to pay for the penalty of our sin, 00:54:39.39\00:54:42.42 but he's asking us to lose our life. 00:54:42.45\00:54:45.71 So that through the cross as Christ dies, 00:54:45.74\00:54:48.07 we also die to sin, so we can experience 00:54:48.10\00:54:51.09 the resurrection power of the Lord. 00:54:51.12\00:54:54.63 And so some of us, I think today, and you know, 00:54:54.66\00:54:57.85 we John and I, we fall into this trap as well sometimes. 00:54:57.88\00:55:01.16 We don't allow ourselves 00:55:01.19\00:55:02.42 to experience the power of the resurrection, 00:55:02.45\00:55:05.79 because we haven't died first. 00:55:05.82\00:55:09.29 We haven't died to the sin and its passion in our lives, 00:55:09.32\00:55:12.46 and we don't accept the fact that Jesus died, 00:55:12.49\00:55:16.02 He's trying to help us die to that as well 00:55:16.05\00:55:18.01 by His experience on the cross. 00:55:18.04\00:55:21.38 So let's make this practical, John, 00:55:21.41\00:55:23.27 so when someone cut you off on the road, 00:55:23.30\00:55:26.44 and he makes you angry, you know those, 00:55:26.47\00:55:29.80 they just, 'this guy is an idiot.' 00:55:29.83\00:55:31.57 Yeah, we speed up and try to run off the road. 00:55:31.60\00:55:33.32 Yeah, we get upset and we start getting all angry 00:55:33.35\00:55:36.08 and you know, my question for you is, 00:55:36.11\00:55:39.54 die, you are going to die, 00:55:39.57\00:55:42.67 we have to die in that instant. 00:55:42.70\00:55:44.20 You know when these passions flare up, die, we got to die. 00:55:44.23\00:55:48.21 Yeah, unless you - 00:55:48.24\00:55:49.27 And we can only do that in a death of the cross, 00:55:49.30\00:55:52.69 or of Christ on the cross, we can't just die to ourselves, 00:55:52.72\00:55:55.69 we have no strength to die. 00:55:55.72\00:55:57.47 But on the cross we have the ability to die 00:55:57.50\00:56:00.20 because Christ took our sins. 00:56:00.23\00:56:01.81 You know, you mentioned that instance, 00:56:01.84\00:56:02.97 I remember it once, somebody cutting me off, 00:56:03.00\00:56:06.77 matter of fact it was a teenage girl, 00:56:06.80\00:56:08.57 my wife and I were in a vehicle together 00:56:08.60\00:56:10.40 and we were in our SUV and this little small car, 00:56:10.43\00:56:14.69 must have been size of a Corolla. 00:56:14.72\00:56:17.06 She was determine to play chicken, 00:56:17.09\00:56:19.16 we went left, she would cut in front of us, 00:56:19.19\00:56:21.02 we went right, she cut in front of us, 00:56:21.05\00:56:22.30 and I am thinking myself, you know, 00:56:22.33\00:56:24.67 every human feeling rose up in me. I know. 00:56:24.70\00:56:28.45 I am being very candid about, every human feeling. 00:56:28.48\00:56:31.65 And I'm thinking this vehicle is 7,000 pounds, 00:56:31.68\00:56:36.54 she's messing around with her 800 pound car, 00:56:36.57\00:56:39.02 I am just, you know, and but you know what, 00:56:39.05\00:56:41.39 I contained myself and we did what any good citizen would do, 00:56:41.42\00:56:45.40 we called the highway patrol, 00:56:45.43\00:56:47.99 while she was cutting us off, I reported her license plate 00:56:48.02\00:56:51.07 and they said, we're going to visit her 00:56:51.10\00:56:52.62 because this is dangerous. 00:56:52.65\00:56:53.79 I don't know what was in her mind 00:56:53.82\00:56:54.85 but she just won't let us pass. 00:56:54.88\00:56:56.41 The whole point of it, friends is this. 00:56:56.44\00:56:58.56 We went to the one, the only one 00:56:58.59\00:57:00.16 that could save us from doing something foolish. 00:57:00.19\00:57:03.02 In the context, why did Jesus have to die? 00:57:03.05\00:57:05.82 He is our Savior, He is also our Redeemer, 00:57:05.85\00:57:10.06 but the real reason why went down this line today is, 00:57:10.09\00:57:13.44 He is also our Lord. 00:57:13.47\00:57:15.77 And you've got to give your life to the Lord, 00:57:15.80\00:57:17.97 not just the one that is died to save you, 00:57:18.00\00:57:20.23 but the one that is going to come back 00:57:20.26\00:57:22.07 and you have to give your life to the Lord, 00:57:22.10\00:57:23.71 the one that wants to save you from sin 00:57:23.74\00:57:25.39 on the day by day basis. 00:57:25.42\00:57:26.69 So until you come back again to House Calls, 00:57:26.72\00:57:29.51 we pray that the Lord of your life, 00:57:29.54\00:57:31.83 you will invite him in today. God bless you. 00:57:31.86\00:57:35.16
