affected by their society

parts of the world

and you'll find that people are
either welcoming of who you are

They may say well, I

in parts of America

there is some prejudice about
either race, or class, or creed.

And Jesus dealt
with that quite a bit.

The woman at the well

before Jesus met
the woman at the well

who is a Samaritan.

He sent His disciples away

because He knew they had
an issue with the Samaritans.

And He did not want
to impact her meeting

by guys that had a
prejudice against her.
00:05:23.43\00:05:25.91
It wasn't even
the skin color issue,
00:05:25.94\00:05:28.33
but the Jews had no
dealings with the Samaritans.
00:05:28.36\00:05:31.48
She even said that to Jesus,
00:05:31.51\00:05:32.66
you being a Jew have no
dealings with the Samaritans.

And here we are
talking about water and well.

Yeah, she would have
read the body language,

the intonations, you know,
I know, talking to this lady.

And Christ didn't want
that to interfere with her soul

that He was trying to win.

That which

from within, and defile a man."

So what He is talking
about are issues of the heart,

our life issues.

What's going on in your heart,
you life, putting clean meat,

following clean regulations,
00:06:18.05\00:06:19.53
taking baths, bathing,
all the things are nice

but, they don't
change what you are.
00:06:22.17\00:06:25.66
If your heart is defiled,
00:06:25.69\00:06:26.91
you can follow all
those regulations and rules
00:06:26.94\00:06:29.13
but your life
will still be unclean
00:06:29.16\00:06:30.80
and as such unacceptable to God.

So this is not a meat issue,

just as that,
that she did came down

in Acts was not a meat issue.

Sometimes Christ will use
things to explain other things.

So this is not a
meat issue per se,

this is a issue of lifestyle
and giving your heart to God

and letting Christ
dwell within that heart.

reference to that meat issue.

Often times in
the Book of Acts 10

the vision that the Lord gave
to Peter when he was hungry.

This is so funny because,
you know, being pastor sometimes

you get to pastor
certain time in the sermon
00:07:03.05\00:07:04.66
and people get
hungry and they get sleepy.
00:07:04.69\00:07:07.16
Well, that was the case,
Peter the sermon was done,

it was around noon
day, Peter was hungry
00:07:11.32\00:07:14.48
and he fell into a sleep
00:07:14.51\00:07:16.75
while I believe the
food was being prepared
00:07:16.78\00:07:19.13
and he had a vision of
all these unclean animals.
00:07:19.16\00:07:22.68
And the Lord
said "Arise and eat."
00:07:22.71\00:07:24.92
And Peter said, Lord,
00:07:24.95\00:07:26.31
I've never eaten
anything common or unclean.
00:07:26.34\00:07:29.50
That's in Acts 10:14.

But in verse 15 of Acts 10
00:07:33.18\00:07:35.30
"And the voice spoke to
him again the second time,
00:07:35.33\00:07:37.51
What God hath cleansed,
you must not call common."

So a lot of
people look at that verse

and they say see right
there in the New Testament

after the ascension of Christ.

Jesus right out
cleansed all the foods

and so He said nothing
from this point anymore

is unclean.

But if you look at verse 28,

Jesus clarified
exactly what He did.

And that's what
pastor meant about context.

When you look at
the entire picture,

you see what was the
focal point of the story.

Yes, yes, it had
nothing to do with food,

after that Cornelius

and someone else
made their way to him.

So this sheet,
this vision prepared him

to receive those who
are already on the way.

And had it not come
he probably would see

Peter had some
issues as you well know.

And this prepared him
to expand his ministry

to a Gentile world.

And when he got to
Cornelius' house this was even--

it was so bad that
he had to get permission

almost as it were
from the Jewish leaders

to go there because he said

what dealings do
you have with a Gentile.

Why are you going to his house?

So some of them went with him

to make sure that Peter's
visit was an authorized visit.

That this was not some

individual preferential
desire on his part to go

and anyhow with
people that could defile him.
00:08:56.22\00:08:59.25
And when he got there,
Cornelius was waiting for him.

And the Bible
says in Acts 10:28.

Matter of fact
look at Acts 10:25.

"And as Peter was coming in,

Cornelius met him,
and fell down at his feet,

and worshipped him. Yes.

But Peter
lifted him up, saying,"

And you know I could
go so far with that one,

because Peter
wasn't the first pope.

before men and worship them.

It's a great story
because Cornelius says,

for four days about this.

And just a little while
ago someone stood before me.

He says a man
in bright clothing.

And says your prayer is heard.

Meanwhile on the
other side of town,

God is preparing
Peter for this mission.

So God is bringing
two things together

for the spread of the gospel.

So this is not about meat,

this is about
spreading the gospel

to those who need to
hear a word from the Lord.

And that's why verse
28 is the summary of that.

But that says
"Then he said to them,"

And I'm reading from
the New King James Version.

"You know how
unlawful it is for a Jewish man

to keep company with or
go to one of another nation.

But God has shown
me, " Peter saying that.

I know what you think,
but this is what God says.

"God has shown me
that I should not call

any man common or unclean."

And so the
beauty of the story is

The Lord was dealing
with the issues of the heart.

"Not that which goeth

And, Pastor, could you
go to 1 Corinthians 10:31

to show you that the
New Testament does support

the principles
of clean and unclean

what should do with your body.

We know nowadays you
can pollute your body

in so many different ways.

Doesn't even have to be
by what you eat physically,

but sometimes by what
you drink or by smoking,

many unhealthy practices
and many perverted practices,

you could defile your body.

But the body is God's temple

and that's why He
gives us this principle

when it comes to
what goes into your body

as well as what comes out of it.

And in verse 31

"Whether
therefore ye eat, or drink,

or whatsoever ye do, do

we can combine this

3:16, 17, 6:19 and 20,

which let us know that
our bodies are the temple.

We have been purchase by God

and we must give glory to
God in our bodies which are His,

because He's paid
the price for them.

the thing that we're eating

it is true and you

that we are digging our
graves without knife and fork.

your plate can't be eaten.

And you can look at the rise
of certain kinds of diseases,

looking at this the other day,

that if you look at when
fast foods became invoke,

late 50s when
certain restaurant chains

began to come invoke.

the health statistics,

there was a correlation

with the
proliferation of fast food

and hospital visits and
doctor visits and death.

You can't eat everything.

We have to be very careful
what we put in our bodies

and what we do with our bodies,

because they are
the temple of God.

As matter of fact the
food and drug administration

passed has not always been

in the harmony with scripture.

FDA, I mean you

whole lot is FDA approved

But the point of the matter is

that Jesus cleansed anything,
