Wow. 00:02:15.37\00:02:17.51 So praise the Lord, 00:02:17.54\00:02:18.74 you know, I think a lot of people are out there, 00:02:18.77\00:02:20.43 wondering how to answer questions 00:02:20.46\00:02:22.47 because people want to know about God, 00:02:22.50\00:02:23.99 they want to know what God's word says. That's right. 00:02:24.02\00:02:26.08 So it's fun to just be able to share that with them, so. 00:02:26.11\00:02:29.79 And since we're going to do that, 00:02:29.82\00:02:30.90 John, why don't you just dive right in, 00:02:30.93\00:02:32.78 and give us the first question for today. 00:02:32.81\00:02:34.44 Let's do that. 00:02:34.47\00:02:35.50 This one is from Cathy in Mount Vernon, Illinois. 00:02:35.53\00:02:39.32 Wow, it's far. That's far away, isn't it? 00:02:39.35\00:02:43.91 Just up this tree here, 00:02:43.94\00:02:46.06 Cathy says, "Dear, John and John, 00:02:46.09\00:02:48.09 I would like to say first, God bless you both. 00:02:48.12\00:02:50.54 We love to watch your program 00:02:50.57\00:02:51.76 and all of the programs on 3ABN. 00:02:51.79\00:02:54.39 You have been a blessing to us." 00:02:54.42\00:02:55.45 Thank you very much, Cathy. 00:02:55.48\00:02:58.35 It says, "The Sabbath school lesson 00:02:58.38\00:02:59.62 we've been studying here recently is on discipleship 00:02:59.65\00:03:02.17 and during the class recently we talked about, 00:03:02.20\00:03:04.52 John the Baptist and Jesus. 00:03:04.55\00:03:06.60 Our question is, did Jesus actually 00:03:06.63\00:03:08.58 baptized any of His followers, 00:03:08.61\00:03:11.00 or was it only John, that did the baptizing? 00:03:11.03\00:03:13.60 Thank you for your help with this issue. 00:03:13.63\00:03:15.58 May God continue to lead you?" Thank you, Cathy. 00:03:15.61\00:03:18.18 Actually the Bible is very clear on who did the baptizing. 00:03:18.21\00:03:21.33 If you turn with us to John 4:1-2, 00:03:21.36\00:03:26.59 it explains here, how the process of baptizing went 00:03:26.62\00:03:31.26 and Jesus' involvement with that. 00:03:31.29\00:03:33.97 It says here, "Therefore, when the Lord knew that 00:03:34.00\00:03:36.61 that Pharisees had heard that Jesus made 00:03:36.64\00:03:38.67 and baptized more disciples than John. 00:03:38.70\00:03:41.32 And then in parenthesis, 00:03:41.35\00:03:42.63 most Bibles will have this in parenthesis, it says, 00:03:42.66\00:03:45.25 "(Though Jesus Himself did not baptized but His disciples,)." 00:03:45.28\00:03:49.68 So clarification right there that even though, 00:03:49.71\00:03:52.39 it's spoken of as Jesus 00:03:52.42\00:03:54.24 being involved in the baptizing process, 00:03:54.27\00:03:56.39 He Himself did not do the baptizing, 00:03:56.42\00:03:58.54 John, but His disciples did. 00:03:58.57\00:04:00.65 It's like when Mark Finley 00:04:00.68\00:04:02.25 or any of the evangelists go overseas 00:04:02.28\00:04:04.19 and they have a lot of baptisms, 00:04:04.22\00:04:06.54 the evangelists would stand on the shore and say, 00:04:06.57\00:04:08.76 "I baptize you in the name of the Father, 00:04:08.79\00:04:10.09 the Son and the Holy Ghost." 00:04:10.12\00:04:11.26 And the pastors will do all the baptizing, 00:04:11.29\00:04:13.65 but the preparation, I believe, for the baptism, 00:04:13.68\00:04:15.58 was done by the Lord. 00:04:15.61\00:04:17.19 And also He trained His disciples 00:04:17.22\00:04:19.08 for that 3 ½ year period, 00:04:19.11\00:04:21.45 how to prepare people for baptism. 00:04:21.48\00:04:23.25 And there's probably a reason for that, 00:04:23.28\00:04:24.55 you know, to avoid people running around and saying, 00:04:24.58\00:04:26.84 "Well, I was actually baptized by Jesus Himself." 00:04:26.87\00:04:29.52 You know, with somehow may be that was a higher 00:04:29.55\00:04:32.53 or a better baptism than others, 00:04:32.56\00:04:34.13 so probably He stayed away from that controversy 00:04:34.16\00:04:36.50 and let His disciples to do that, so just a thought. 00:04:36.53\00:04:39.37 And I liked that in another way, 00:04:39.40\00:04:41.30 another lesson out of that would be 00:04:41.33\00:04:43.36 for Him to communicate that, 00:04:43.39\00:04:45.65 Yes, I sent people forth, the baptism, 00:04:45.68\00:04:49.27 the commission to baptize, I actually modeled that, 00:04:49.30\00:04:52.11 I showed my disciples how to baptize. 00:04:52.14\00:04:54.46 And so, very good, very good point. 00:04:54.49\00:04:56.58 Very good quick question, and I think right to the point. 00:04:56.61\00:04:59.71 Another one here, Mathew 8:12. 00:04:59.74\00:05:04.34 This is an interesting question, John. 00:05:04.37\00:05:06.52 You know, I never think of this question. 00:05:06.55\00:05:08.48 Out of all the questions you get sometimes, 00:05:08.51\00:05:10.28 you know those questions that are really 00:05:10.31\00:05:11.92 kind of make you smile before you read it. 00:05:11.95\00:05:14.06 This is one of those questions. 00:05:14.09\00:05:16.00 Mathew 8:12, 00:05:16.03\00:05:17.06 "But the sons of the kingdom 00:05:22.40\00:05:23.74 will be cast out into outer darkness" 00:05:23.77\00:05:26.65 that's sons of the kingdom of the wicked one. 00:05:26.68\00:05:30.12 "There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." 00:05:30.15\00:05:34.43 As I read, I think of the question. 00:05:34.46\00:05:36.57 Somebody says, somebody wrote in the question, and asked 00:05:36.60\00:05:39.54 but what if the person does not have teeth, 00:05:39.57\00:05:42.34 how would they be weeping, the gnashing of teeth. 00:05:42.37\00:05:46.47 And I thought about that and I said, 00:05:46.50\00:05:48.68 I hope you aren't asking this question for yourself 00:05:48.71\00:05:51.72 because that in essence says, 00:05:51.75\00:05:52.93 you're planning to be lost. Yeah. 00:05:52.96\00:05:54.75 And I hope that's not the application. 00:05:54.78\00:05:57.77 Secondly, I don't think, 00:05:57.80\00:05:59.77 John, at that point that people can be worried about 00:05:59.80\00:06:01.76 whether or not they have teeth. Yeah. 00:06:01.79\00:06:04.53 You know, I even think or you think about this 00:06:04.56\00:06:06.54 and the emphasis is not the teeth. Right. 00:06:06.57\00:06:09.11 The emphasis is that, 00:06:09.14\00:06:10.64 you know they're arriving in pain-- I'm lost. 00:06:10.67\00:06:12.88 And most of the time if you have teeth, 00:06:12.91\00:06:15.25 you are gnashing your teeth, when you do that, 00:06:15.28\00:06:17.51 but if you don't have teeth, 00:06:17.54\00:06:18.98 it be the weeping and gnashing of gums is what we speak so. 00:06:19.01\00:06:23.11 That it may be silent anguish but anguish is anguish, 00:06:23.14\00:06:25.48 whether you-- That's the key. 00:06:25.51\00:06:27.06 It's anguish anyway. It's anguish. 00:06:27.09\00:06:28.92 You know, I heard, years ago, somebody once said, 00:06:28.95\00:06:32.46 you know, you snore so sold, my teeth rattle, and he said, 00:06:32.49\00:06:35.56 "well, moved them further from the bed." 00:06:35.59\00:06:37.86 And this is one of those situations. 00:06:37.89\00:06:39.73 Honestly there are people that don't have teeth, 00:06:39.76\00:06:42.37 but that's not the issue here, 00:06:42.40\00:06:43.47 the issue is, the anguish of being lost. 00:06:43.50\00:06:46.80 And I think Revelation 16:10 gives us another side of that, 00:06:46.83\00:06:50.31 because they're going to be those, 00:06:50.34\00:06:51.63 who won't be gnashing their teeth 00:06:51.66\00:06:53.05 but listen to what it says, 00:06:53.08\00:06:54.97 "Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl 00:06:55.00\00:06:57.37 on the throne of the beast, 00:06:57.40\00:06:59.11 and his kingdom became full of darkness, 00:06:59.14\00:07:02.02 and they gnawed their tongues 00:07:02.05\00:07:03.85 because of the pain." 00:07:03.88\00:07:05.69 So they-- you know the tongues, 00:07:05.72\00:07:08.73 because of the pain that they're experiencing, 00:07:08.76\00:07:10.80 they're gnawing their tongues, 00:07:10.83\00:07:12.52 rather than gnashing and weeping. 00:07:12.55\00:07:14.98 You see, rather than gnashing their teeth and weeping, 00:07:15.01\00:07:17.60 they're gnawing their tongues with pain. 00:07:17.63\00:07:19.27 Yeah, key part being there, 00:07:19.30\00:07:21.73 the pain and the anguish that people go through so. 00:07:21.76\00:07:24.15 Boy, you wouldn't be thinking about teeth, 00:07:24.18\00:07:26.61 anymore than a person whose, whose house is on fire. 00:07:26.64\00:07:29.91 He is wondering, well, should I 00:07:29.94\00:07:31.64 run out of my house with the suit on or not. 00:07:31.67\00:07:34.44 You know that's a last thought in your mind. 00:07:34.47\00:07:36.48 That's right. Okay. 00:07:36.51\00:07:37.54 John, this next question is from Carroll, 00:07:37.57\00:07:39.80 and she says here, during the morning there was, 00:07:39.83\00:07:44.39 during the worship hour, 00:07:44.42\00:07:45.45 there was a pastor who was preaching, 00:07:45.48\00:07:47.52 and he spoke about the sons of God, 00:07:47.55\00:07:50.48 in reference to Job 1, 00:07:50.51\00:07:52.62 and being the leaders of another planets 00:07:52.65\00:07:54.72 that came to see how God would handle Satan's accusations 00:07:54.75\00:07:58.78 with regard to Job, 00:07:58.81\00:08:00.88 and accusations in general with regard to God. 00:08:00.91\00:08:04.28 It says here, I know that we've heard that pastors on 3ABN 00:08:04.31\00:08:07.36 say that the ones in Genesis 00:08:07.39\00:08:08.59 are mere mortals from here on earth, 00:08:08.62\00:08:12.85 but I'd like to know more about the sons of God 00:08:12.88\00:08:15.00 and where they are from. 00:08:15.03\00:08:16.06 So let's just share a few things here, 00:08:16.09\00:08:17.89 I know that John you have some ideas 00:08:17.92\00:08:19.44 and thoughts about that from the Word of God 00:08:19.47\00:08:21.39 and we'll turn first of all to Genesis 6, 00:08:21.42\00:08:26.10 and we'll look at that passage. All right. 00:08:26.13\00:08:27.96 And let's pull from that passage 00:08:27.99\00:08:29.27 the context here, because remember, 00:08:29.30\00:08:30.61 you don't want to take a single word 00:08:30.64\00:08:32.22 and just run with it. 00:08:32.25\00:08:33.51 A lot of people will use a lot of assumptions 00:08:33.54\00:08:37.32 when they interpret text, and you can't do that. 00:08:37.35\00:08:40.42 You know the Bible actually cautions against that. 00:08:40.45\00:08:43.34 It refers to that as private interpretation. Right. 00:08:43.37\00:08:46.07 And when you use assumptions, personal assumptions 00:08:46.10\00:08:48.12 to explain a text or a specific passage 00:08:48.15\00:08:50.36 that isn't balanced by a hermeneutical 00:08:50.39\00:08:53.39 comparison to other scriptures, 00:08:53.42\00:08:55.91 to pull that in together, 00:08:55.94\00:08:57.47 it's your own private interpretation. 00:08:57.50\00:08:59.61 So we want to stay away from that. Okay. 00:08:59.64\00:09:01.84 Genesis 6:1 says, "Now it came to pass, 00:09:01.87\00:09:07.18 when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, 00:09:07.21\00:09:09.99 and daughters were born to them, 00:09:10.02\00:09:12.50 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men 00:09:12.53\00:09:15.15 that they were beautiful 00:09:15.18\00:09:16.67 and they took wives for themselves 00:09:16.70\00:09:18.51 all of whom they chose. 00:09:18.54\00:09:20.49 And the Lord said, My spirit 00:09:20.52\00:09:22.33 shall not always strive with man forever, 00:09:22.36\00:09:25.39 for he is indeed flesh, 00:09:25.42\00:09:27.35 yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years. 00:09:27.38\00:09:31.07 There were giants on the earth in those days, 00:09:31.10\00:09:33.64 and also afterward, when the sons of God 00:09:33.67\00:09:35.93 came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, 00:09:35.96\00:09:38.88 those who were mighty men, were of old, men of renown." 00:09:38.91\00:09:43.90 And then of course I'll finish with the verse 5 here, 00:09:43.93\00:09:45.67 "Since then the Lord saw that the wickedness of men 00:09:45.70\00:09:48.30 was great on the earth, 00:09:48.33\00:09:50.01 and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart 00:09:50.04\00:09:52.19 were only evil continually." 00:09:52.22\00:09:54.62 Now the emphasis here, that we see over and over again 00:09:54.65\00:09:56.67 is man flesh, man flesh. 00:09:56.70\00:09:59.84 There's no indication here, John, 00:09:59.87\00:10:02.69 that angels have anything to do 00:10:02.72\00:10:04.22 with what's going on here. Right. 00:10:04.25\00:10:05.96 That the word angel doesn't appear, 00:10:05.99\00:10:08.60 but man and flesh do. 00:10:08.63\00:10:09.85 Even those born to this unholy alliance 00:10:09.88\00:10:13.42 are referred to as being fleshy or being man. 00:10:13.45\00:10:16.92 So they are not spiritual beings, 00:10:16.95\00:10:19.09 they're not angelic beings at all, 00:10:19.12\00:10:21.13 at least from the text we can't infuse that in there. 00:10:21.16\00:10:24.40 I would like to suggest to here 00:10:24.43\00:10:25.86 as we dive in to the subject a little bit more, 00:10:25.89\00:10:29.10 that nowhere do we find in scripture, 00:10:29.13\00:10:31.79 anywhere in scripture, and you let us know 00:10:31.82\00:10:33.50 if you find something, but we haven't found any, 00:10:33.53\00:10:35.03 we have done a lot of searching. 00:10:35.06\00:10:36.69 Nowhere do we find any evidence 00:10:36.72\00:10:38.54 that angels have the ability to procreate. 00:10:38.57\00:10:40.94 Right, in that context. 00:10:40.97\00:10:42.68 Infact, we find suggested, and I say suggested 00:10:42.71\00:10:45.94 because it's my opinion that is suggested, 00:10:45.97\00:10:48.21 that one of the reasons why Satan attacked Adam and Eve 00:10:48.24\00:10:52.61 and attacks God creation 00:10:52.64\00:10:54.19 was because he was jealous that they could procreate. 00:10:54.22\00:10:57.96 I mean, think about this, God creates Adam and Eve 00:10:57.99\00:11:01.22 and says, "Be fruitful and multiply." 00:11:01.25\00:11:03.13 Right and that's not a commission 00:11:03.16\00:11:04.30 He gave to the angels. And Satan has a third. 00:11:04.33\00:11:07.15 Now do you think Satan would 00:11:07.18\00:11:08.21 like to multiply his forces. Right. 00:11:08.24\00:11:11.15 He would like to, but he can't, 00:11:11.18\00:11:13.30 why because he's got a third 00:11:13.33\00:11:14.72 and it's all he's ever going to have 00:11:14.75\00:11:16.50 and they can't expand their kingdom by procreating, 00:11:16.53\00:11:19.35 so he sees Adam and Eve procreating 00:11:19.38\00:11:22.42 and he says, we can't do that. 00:11:22.45\00:11:25.79 But you know what, if we take them down, 00:11:25.82\00:11:29.34 then they can procreate and expand our kingdom. 00:11:29.37\00:11:32.91 So every evidence suggests in the Bible at least, 00:11:32.94\00:11:36.36 that there is no ability to procreate 00:11:36.39\00:11:40.07 given to the angels whatsoever. That's right. 00:11:40.10\00:11:42.09 So to infuse that into Genesis 6 is just beyond 00:11:42.12\00:11:45.58 what scripture actually gives us with regard to the angels, 00:11:45.61\00:11:49.03 your thoughts on that, John. 00:11:49.06\00:11:50.09 And I know that, you know, this is pretty clear on our minds. 00:11:50.12\00:11:52.72 We've been studying this for a while, 00:11:52.75\00:11:53.91 but most have been taught that these are angels 00:11:53.94\00:11:56.57 somehow mating with men and women. 00:11:56.60\00:11:58.66 Well, the Bible uses the phrase, 00:11:58.69\00:12:00.32 sons of God in two particulars. 00:12:00.35\00:12:02.98 And I think that the most important thing 00:12:03.01\00:12:04.67 we have to do and, John, you said, 00:12:04.70\00:12:06.12 well, is look at the context. 00:12:06.15\00:12:07.99 That is important because you'll also find in Job 1:6 00:12:08.02\00:12:10.99 where the Bible says, "They came with a sons of God, 00:12:11.02\00:12:14.41 came to present themselves before the God, 00:12:14.44\00:12:17.32 and Satan came also." 00:12:17.35\00:12:19.33 And the question was, where did you come from? 00:12:19.36\00:12:21.12 And Satan said, from going back and forth, 00:12:21.15\00:12:23.70 and to and fro on the earth. 00:12:23.73\00:12:25.49 So he came as a representative of earth. 00:12:25.52\00:12:27.78 And we know that there was a time, 00:12:27.81\00:12:29.88 right at the time of the creation of the world, 00:12:29.91\00:12:31.94 there was just Adam and Eve. 00:12:31.97\00:12:33.56 So they couldn't be sons of God on the earth, 00:12:33.59\00:12:35.80 because multiplying in the races did not begin yet, 00:12:35.83\00:12:38.90 so in that context, you'll see clearly that, 00:12:38.93\00:12:42.50 that is alluding to the fact that there are other worlds 00:12:42.53\00:12:44.70 on fallen beings, 00:12:44.73\00:12:46.19 where they came to present themselves before the Lord. 00:12:46.22\00:12:49.92 And Satan came as a representative of the earth. 00:12:49.95\00:12:52.92 But in the context of the Genesis 6, 00:12:52.95\00:12:55.65 that's not what suggested there at all. 00:12:55.68\00:12:57.51 Because they made it very, very clear in verse 1, 00:12:57.54\00:13:00.40 "Now it came to pass 00:13:00.43\00:13:01.46 when men began to multiply on the face of the earth 00:13:01.49\00:13:05.11 and daughters were born to them." 00:13:05.14\00:13:07.49 This is earth, this is right away 00:13:07.52\00:13:09.14 giving the application where it is, 00:13:09.17\00:13:11.05 that's the sons of Gods, saw the daughters of man, 00:13:11.08\00:13:13.86 that they were beautiful, you see. 00:13:13.89\00:13:16.27 And when you look at the context, 00:13:16.30\00:13:17.67 and when you study the history here, 00:13:17.70\00:13:18.99 you see that one of the things 00:13:19.02\00:13:21.08 that caused the degradation of the people of God is that, 00:13:21.11\00:13:25.45 the context here is, the daughters were fair, 00:13:25.48\00:13:29.02 the daughters of men were beautiful. 00:13:29.05\00:13:32.25 And you'll see that, the context is, 00:13:32.28\00:13:37.35 the men who worshipped God, 00:13:37.38\00:13:39.56 looked more at the beauty of the women, 00:13:39.59\00:13:42.45 than the allegiance of the woman. Yeah. 00:13:42.48\00:13:45.53 And that's where the degradation came in 00:13:45.56\00:13:48.57 and that pattern is carried through our scripture, 00:13:48.60\00:13:52.46 when men focused more on beauty of the woman 00:13:52.49\00:13:55.40 than her allegiance, is when the degradation began. 00:13:55.43\00:13:59.62 You'll find that the children of Israel were always safe 00:13:59.65\00:14:02.24 until the Philistine women came into the camp 00:14:02.27\00:14:04.64 and they were very beautiful. 00:14:04.67\00:14:06.26 And there is no sin in being beautiful. 00:14:06.29\00:14:08.19 But they focused more on the woman's beauty 00:14:08.22\00:14:10.32 than her allegiance to God. 00:14:10.35\00:14:12.46 And so that's what's talked about here, rather than 00:14:12.49\00:14:15.66 beings coming from another worlds 00:14:15.69\00:14:17.13 coming down and populating the earth, 00:14:17.16\00:14:18.49 because here is the problem here, 00:14:18.52\00:14:20.49 and you made the point very clear, and I reiterate it, 00:14:20.52\00:14:22.82 is that angels are not procreative beings. 00:14:22.85\00:14:26.05 Angels are not given the ability to procreate. 00:14:26.08\00:14:28.44 Yet, we find that they were, probably gender neutral. 00:14:28.47\00:14:31.57 There's no indication if there's any gender 00:14:31.60\00:14:33.50 with regard to angels. 00:14:33.53\00:14:34.59 Right, you just find names like Gabriel, like Lucifer. 00:14:34.62\00:14:39.72 Those are some of the names you have in scriptures, 00:14:39.75\00:14:41.45 those are two of the names you have in scripture. 00:14:41.48\00:14:44.35 Even, Michael the archangel, 00:14:44.38\00:14:45.78 which is a representation of Christ, 00:14:45.81\00:14:48.61 but you don't have, you never heard of Deborah, 00:14:48.64\00:14:51.89 the angel or Susan the angel, you don't know. 00:14:51.92\00:14:55.50 So in the context of working alongside with God 00:14:55.53\00:14:59.12 in ministry beings, these are ministering spirits, 00:14:59.15\00:15:02.54 and spirits are not procreative, ministering beings, 00:15:02.57\00:15:05.90 angels with two and four and six wings, 00:15:05.93\00:15:08.30 they don't have the ability to create another angel 00:15:08.33\00:15:10.70 that has two or four or six wings. 00:15:10.73\00:15:12.83 So there is no procreative thing here. 00:15:12.86\00:15:14.61 So that's why, and in fact what you said, 00:15:14.64\00:15:17.02 which I am just saying all over again, 00:15:17.05\00:15:19.51 no evidence that these were heavenly beings. 00:15:19.54\00:15:21.22 And you mentioned in Job 1 there, 00:15:21.25\00:15:23.58 with regard to the sons of God came before God 00:15:23.61\00:15:27.04 and if you look at the one-- all the references-- 00:15:27.07\00:15:30.04 take if you have a concordance 00:15:30.07\00:15:31.41 or even a problem that you have like a software program, 00:15:31.44\00:15:35.17 type in sons of God 00:15:35.20\00:15:36.52 and look at all the references to sons of God. Oh, yeah. 00:15:36.55\00:15:38.76 It's only used in the context 00:15:38.79\00:15:40.84 of those who are lead by the Spirit of God, 00:15:40.87\00:15:43.54 I am quoting there from Romans 8:14. 00:15:43.57\00:15:46.13 So those who are lead by the Spirit of God 00:15:46.16\00:15:47.66 are called sons of God. 00:15:47.69\00:15:50.37 When Satan appeared before God, in Job 1, 00:15:50.40\00:15:54.15 with all the other sons of God, it's like God was saying, 00:15:54.18\00:15:58.04 all these people, I know are mine, 00:15:58.07\00:15:59.59 because My Spirit operates within them, 00:15:59.62\00:16:01.69 but what are you doing here? Why? 00:16:01.72\00:16:04.69 Because you don't operate 00:16:04.72\00:16:06.66 or you don't put your trust and confidence, 00:16:06.69\00:16:09.96 you weren't lead by My Spirit. 00:16:09.99\00:16:12.17 So Satan was unique in that group, with that respect 00:16:12.20\00:16:15.74 because he wasn't lead by God's Spirit. 00:16:15.77\00:16:18.44 He was in rebellion, he was rebellious angel. 00:16:18.47\00:16:21.49 So anyway, everything there points to the fact that, 00:16:21.52\00:16:24.81 this scripture is often misinterpreted 00:16:24.84\00:16:26.99 and that gives you a little more background on that. 00:16:27.02\00:16:30.08 The only time there will be anything like angels 00:16:30.11\00:16:33.01 or close to being like angels is in the resurrection. 00:16:33.04\00:16:36.92 You'll find, matter of fact, Mathew 5:9, 00:16:36.95\00:16:39.44 "Blessed are the peacemakers 00:16:39.47\00:16:41.25 for they shall be called the sons of God." Yeah. 00:16:41.28\00:16:44.28 But I want to share this one also that 00:16:44.31\00:16:46.59 this does not talk about 00:16:46.62\00:16:48.46 before the creation of the world, 00:16:48.49\00:16:52.29 this is not talking about an Adam's day, 00:16:52.32\00:16:53.97 this is not talking about in the days of Noah, 00:16:54.00\00:16:57.30 this is not talking about in the days of Christ, 00:16:57.33\00:16:59.69 this is talking about after the resurrection. 00:16:59.72\00:17:02.42 Luke 20:36, speaking about 00:17:02.45\00:17:05.24 the things that we have, we can look forward to 00:17:05.27\00:17:07.92 but the things that we cannot look forward to. 00:17:07.95\00:17:11.38 It says, "But those who are counted worthy 00:17:11.41\00:17:13.15 to attain that age" that is the age to come. 00:17:13.18\00:17:16.49 "And the resurrections from the dead 00:17:16.52\00:17:18.66 neither marry nor are given in marriage. 00:17:18.69\00:17:21.94 Nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels 00:17:21.97\00:17:26.71 and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection." 00:17:26.74\00:17:30.59 See, there are two things that we will have that of-- 00:17:30.62\00:17:33.04 You give the scripture reference again for them. 00:17:33.07\00:17:34.69 That is a Luke 20:35-36. 00:17:34.72\00:17:37.81 Now the reason why it says 00:17:37.84\00:17:38.87 they are equal to angels is because there, 00:17:38.90\00:17:41.85 there is no death, the angels don't die. 00:17:41.88\00:17:44.39 That the angels are with God, 00:17:44.42\00:17:45.80 don't die and neither will we die, 00:17:45.83\00:17:48.41 that's what the equality of angels come in. 00:17:48.44\00:17:51.34 Not now all of a sudden we are, 00:17:51.37\00:17:53.49 we have lost what God has given us 00:17:53.52\00:17:55.98 the ability to do it in the beginning 00:17:56.01\00:17:58.06 nor has the angels gained 00:17:58.09\00:17:59.71 what God has not given them the ability to do, 00:17:59.74\00:18:02.60 you see, there's no switching of roles here at all. Good. 00:18:02.63\00:18:06.95 Well, I have another question here, I think. 00:18:06.98\00:18:11.69 What happens to people and let me read this letter 00:18:11.72\00:18:14.07 because this is the person that sent the request. 00:18:14.10\00:18:18.59 Speaking about, I work in the medical field 00:18:18.62\00:18:21.83 with patients who have multiple personalities. 00:18:21.86\00:18:26.16 Some are nice people and some are not. 00:18:26.19\00:18:30.26 Some could even be very evil or very scorn. 00:18:30.29\00:18:36.05 When Jesus judges in the last days, 00:18:36.08\00:18:38.95 who does He judge to be fair? 00:18:38.98\00:18:42.96 In another words, which personality 00:18:42.99\00:18:44.39 is He going to judge? 00:18:44.42\00:18:46.36 These patients I care for are one person one day 00:18:46.39\00:18:49.98 and another the next day. 00:18:50.01\00:18:54.18 First of all, I understand the context of that, 00:18:54.21\00:18:56.87 because, you know the Bible even suggests that, 00:18:56.90\00:19:01.11 we are the same way before we come to Christ. 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.34 Because there's an old man, there's a new man. 00:19:03.37\00:19:06.54 We put on the new man, which is Christ 00:19:06.57\00:19:08.80 because the old man that we have when we were born as Adam. 00:19:08.83\00:19:11.63 So to some degree, we have two personalities. 00:19:11.66\00:19:14.75 Jesus came to put one to death, 00:19:14.78\00:19:17.26 so that the new one Christ 00:19:17.29\00:19:19.07 could reign in through our lives. 00:19:19.10\00:19:21.23 But I would say this, first of all, 00:19:21.26\00:19:23.13 to answer the question with an authoritative answer, 00:19:23.16\00:19:25.39 I almost have to have to the sovereignty of God 00:19:25.42\00:19:28.28 to know, how this person needs to be assigned. 00:19:28.31\00:19:31.06 But I don't have that sovereignty, 00:19:31.09\00:19:33.00 I cannot see beyond the surface. 00:19:33.03\00:19:36.01 Now I want to give you the scriptures, 00:19:36.04\00:19:37.46 so that will encourage you 00:19:37.49\00:19:38.65 because God doesn't see as we see, 00:19:38.68\00:19:40.56 as you know the Bible says, 00:19:40.59\00:19:41.62 it's high as the heavens are above the earth, 00:19:41.65\00:19:43.43 His ways are above are ways, 00:19:43.46\00:19:44.75 and His thoughts are above our thoughts. 00:19:44.78\00:19:46.74 And the Bible says, He does not see as men sees. 00:19:46.77\00:19:50.04 Men looks at the outward appearance, 00:19:50.07\00:19:51.99 God looks at the heart. 00:19:52.02\00:19:53.78 So there may be individuals who are held captive 00:19:53.81\00:19:57.01 in this multiple personality 00:19:57.04\00:19:59.27 and we see one thing, but God sees another. 00:19:59.30\00:20:03.51 Someone also told me about this 00:20:03.54\00:20:04.70 and I am not a doctor, so if, I am incorrect on this, 00:20:04.73\00:20:07.28 you know, I'll appreciate your emails. 00:20:07.31\00:20:10.09 Sometimes people are thinking something 00:20:10.12\00:20:12.51 but don't have the ability either 00:20:12.54\00:20:14.52 because of the debilitating disease to say it. 00:20:14.55\00:20:17.98 I even know that some people who 00:20:18.01\00:20:19.50 are challenged with Alzheimer's 00:20:19.53\00:20:20.89 sometimes, they want to communicate to you, 00:20:20.92\00:20:22.74 but then at the end, they're just shaking their heads. 00:20:22.77\00:20:25.30 You know sometimes 00:20:25.33\00:20:27.23 I am not going to go down the list of diseases here, 00:20:27.26\00:20:28.90 but the experiences have been 00:20:28.93\00:20:31.27 science has discovered that sometimes people with autism, 00:20:31.30\00:20:35.26 and they'll say, well, they don't think like 00:20:35.29\00:20:37.20 regular child does, but they are very intelligent. 00:20:37.23\00:20:40.74 And so I even heard of young kids, 00:20:40.77\00:20:42.75 who said, you know there was a program on Oprah Winfrey, 00:20:42.78\00:20:46.23 and I am using this as a reference, 00:20:46.26\00:20:48.33 where they said, it's not-- 00:20:48.36\00:20:50.61 the problem is not how your child is being taught, 00:20:50.64\00:20:53.34 but the problem 00:20:53.37\00:20:54.50 but the challenge is how your child is wired. 00:20:54.53\00:20:57.75 Because some children learn differently than others 00:20:57.78\00:21:01.91 and so this program was designed that, 00:21:01.94\00:21:04.85 if you understand how the child thinks, 00:21:04.88\00:21:07.46 then you could understand, how to teach that child 00:21:07.49\00:21:09.91 and by and large, you know the prodigy children, 00:21:09.94\00:21:13.54 they call them prodigal or prodigy children, 00:21:13.57\00:21:15.66 very, very intelligent, 00:21:15.69\00:21:17.91 they are so far ahead of the normal mind 00:21:17.94\00:21:20.30 that they have to be taught quite differently. 00:21:20.33\00:21:23.96 But in this context, 00:21:23.99\00:21:25.37 I think that the personality is going to be judged 00:21:25.40\00:21:28.35 are somewhat based on these two Bible verses. 00:21:28.38\00:21:30.83 As I mentioned a moment ago, 00:21:30.86\00:21:31.90 what God sees and what we see is something totally different. 00:21:31.93\00:21:34.67 Proverbs 23:7, "For as He thinks in his heart, so is He." 00:21:34.70\00:21:40.04 So the Lord sees what's in the heart, 00:21:40.07\00:21:42.00 not just what's coming out of the mouth? 00:21:42.03\00:21:43.64 All right. All right. 00:21:43.67\00:21:44.89 Now Hebrews 4:12, 00:21:44.92\00:21:46.59 "For the word of God is living and powerful, 00:21:46.62\00:21:48.65 and sharper than any two edged sword, 00:21:48.68\00:21:51.27 piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, 00:21:51.30\00:21:54.19 and adjoins and marrow, 00:21:54.22\00:21:56.20 and is a discerner of the thoughts 00:21:56.23\00:21:58.15 and intents of the heart." 00:21:58.18\00:22:00.12 So it not only goes to the, what he thinks 00:22:00.15\00:22:02.94 but the thoughts and intentions. 00:22:02.97\00:22:04.62 Motives. The motives. 00:22:04.65\00:22:07.17 And sometimes a person's motive 00:22:07.20\00:22:10.26 is even more important than the actual actions. 00:22:10.29\00:22:14.37 The one you're talking about addictions. Oh, yeah. 00:22:14.40\00:22:16.95 Understanding how steep some of these addictions are. 00:22:16.98\00:22:19.91 So you know what are the motives of that person, 00:22:19.94\00:22:21.58 where is the desire and God looks at those motives. 00:22:21.61\00:22:25.87 We are walking through a hospital sometime 00:22:25.90\00:22:27.51 and I have seen some situations where 00:22:27.54\00:22:29.44 you're walking to the ward of a hospital 00:22:29.47\00:22:30.96 where there seems to be people that are just, 00:22:30.99\00:22:33.38 you can't communicate with them, but the nurses say, 00:22:33.41\00:22:35.50 I understand exactly what they're trying to say, 00:22:35.53\00:22:37.73 because they all of a sudden 00:22:37.76\00:22:38.79 are able to communicate on that level. 00:22:38.82\00:22:40.58 And God sees further than even that nurse can. 00:22:40.61\00:22:44.85 Good stuff. 00:22:44.88\00:22:46.23 Let's look at one more question, I think we can get in here. 00:22:46.26\00:22:48.11 This one is from Vern and he is saying here, 00:22:48.14\00:22:53.26 that he has been Seventh-day Adventist Christian 00:22:53.29\00:22:56.16 for about the last three years, 00:22:56.19\00:22:58.25 and he's had a lot of reform and changes in his life, 00:22:58.28\00:23:01.22 the God is doing a lot of powerful things in his life. 00:23:01.25\00:23:03.27 Praise the Lord, Vern by the way. 00:23:03.30\00:23:05.95 Give him the glory, that's great. 00:23:05.98\00:23:07.84 And-- but then he says here, 00:23:07.87\00:23:10.15 that one thing that he just can't seemed to quit is smoking. 00:23:10.18\00:23:14.29 He is just beaten himself up over this, 00:23:14.32\00:23:17.23 he can't, speaking of addiction, 00:23:17.26\00:23:19.25 he can't seem to overcome this thing 00:23:19.28\00:23:20.74 but he's changed in so many other areas of his life, 00:23:20.77\00:23:23.75 and so he is wondering here, 00:23:23.78\00:23:26.73 should he continue look down upon himself 00:23:26.76\00:23:28.55 or will he really find faith and victory in Christ. 00:23:28.58\00:23:32.23 What is our hope that we can give him? 00:23:32.26\00:23:35.18 And so we just like to kind of encourage you, 00:23:35.21\00:23:37.06 here Vern that, you know, 00:23:37.09\00:23:40.45 we are talking about addictions here, 00:23:40.48\00:23:41.71 addictions are so very very difficult to understand. 00:23:41.74\00:23:46.79 They are strong, they have a lot of power over us, 00:23:46.82\00:23:49.03 because our minds are wired as such that 00:23:49.06\00:23:51.40 we are just so used to doing these habits 00:23:51.43\00:23:53.47 that it just takes time to break out of them. 00:23:53.50\00:23:55.46 In fact the Lord is the only one that can cut those, 00:23:55.49\00:23:58.36 super highways of our brain 00:23:58.39\00:24:00.05 that incline us to do this repeated actions. 00:24:00.08\00:24:02.94 Smoking is very much one of those. 00:24:02.97\00:24:04.37 In fact sometimes it's not just the nicotine, that's addictive 00:24:04.40\00:24:07.75 but the habit of how you do it, 00:24:07.78\00:24:09.58 and when you do it and all those others-- 00:24:09.61\00:24:10.83 You train yourself, yeah. You do. 00:24:10.86\00:24:12.27 You just train yourself for a life time 00:24:12.30\00:24:13.93 sometimes to do those things. 00:24:13.96\00:24:15.80 So God recognizes that I believe. 00:24:15.83\00:24:18.41 And although you've had some reforms 00:24:18.44\00:24:19.90 and some changes in your life, 00:24:19.93\00:24:20.96 some wonderful things God is doing, 00:24:20.99\00:24:22.65 God is not given up on changing your habit of smoking. 00:24:22.68\00:24:27.53 So one thing you should never do is give up, 00:24:27.56\00:24:30.56 because God doesn't want you to destroy your body by smoking. 00:24:30.59\00:24:34.05 We can just say that right there. 00:24:34.08\00:24:36.39 So no one should say, 00:24:36.42\00:24:37.45 well I am never going to get rid of this habit, 00:24:37.48\00:24:39.02 because God just, you know hasn't, 00:24:39.05\00:24:40.53 you know I just can't find the victory. 00:24:40.56\00:24:42.91 Through Christ and through God, all things are possible, right. 00:24:42.94\00:24:47.23 We know that from His word. 00:24:47.26\00:24:49.27 So the issue here is never give up. 00:24:49.30\00:24:53.57 Keep trying, keep putting yourself 00:24:53.60\00:24:56.60 under the strength 00:24:56.63\00:24:58.68 and the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:24:58.71\00:25:00.12 Ask for the Holy Spirit everyday to give you the power 00:25:00.15\00:25:02.71 and strength to overcome and never stop trying, 00:25:02.74\00:25:05.81 but there's something else that goes with that, 00:25:05.84\00:25:08.24 that should be your motive. 00:25:08.27\00:25:09.36 But the other part is build yourself 00:25:09.39\00:25:11.24 some relationship within the church community, 00:25:11.27\00:25:14.47 a friend or someone you can trust, 00:25:14.50\00:25:17.28 some accountability partner. 00:25:17.31\00:25:19.76 Ask them or ask somebody who is trained in these areas 00:25:19.79\00:25:23.24 of quitting smoking and other things 00:25:23.27\00:25:24.95 to help you to overcome. 00:25:24.98\00:25:26.97 And you may say, well I've tried 00:25:27.00\00:25:28.07 all these different kinds of programs 00:25:28.10\00:25:29.34 and nothing has worked, but keep trying. 00:25:29.37\00:25:32.02 I mean something we have found story after story, 00:25:32.05\00:25:34.53 John, and you've heard this as well 00:25:34.56\00:25:35.68 that God has miraculously delivered people from smoking. 00:25:35.71\00:25:38.78 I think that's the key there. 00:25:38.81\00:25:40.53 And it's just, you just can't give up though. 00:25:40.56\00:25:42.59 Here's a thing, don't ever resort to say, 00:25:42.62\00:25:44.13 well, I just, I am never going to get rid of this habit. 00:25:44.16\00:25:46.39 God will give you deliverance from that habit, 00:25:46.42\00:25:49.81 just keep on pursuing this different avenues 00:25:49.84\00:25:52.50 and God's strength to help you overcome. 00:25:52.53\00:25:54.94 I believe also you have to claim a victory, 00:25:54.97\00:25:57.95 1 Corinthians 15:57, I believe it is where it says, 00:25:57.98\00:26:01.07 "But thanks to be to God, which gives us the victory 00:26:01.10\00:26:03.26 through our Lord Jesus Christ." 00:26:03.29\00:26:05.20 I sat a person down once, and I said to that person, 00:26:05.23\00:26:09.81 do you believe that 00:26:09.84\00:26:11.19 Jesus is able to give you the victory over smoking. 00:26:11.22\00:26:13.83 He said, yes. 00:26:13.86\00:26:15.13 I said, do you think that 00:26:15.16\00:26:16.19 the cigarette is greater than the Lord? 00:26:16.22\00:26:18.34 He said, no. 00:26:18.37\00:26:19.73 I said, do you think that the cigarette is greater 00:26:19.76\00:26:21.97 than Jesus' ability to deliver? He said, no. 00:26:22.00\00:26:25.78 I said, so let's go ahead and claim the victory 00:26:25.81\00:26:28.24 and let's live in the victory. He says, okay. 00:26:28.27\00:26:31.20 We prayed, we anointed him, claim the victory. 00:26:31.23\00:26:33.92 And then I said, now do you have any cigarettes 00:26:33.95\00:26:36.62 in your truck at all? He said, yeah. 00:26:36.65\00:26:39.55 I said well go get them for me. 00:26:39.58\00:26:40.61 He said, "Well, can I smoke those last ones." 00:26:40.64\00:26:43.99 I said, you haven't claimed the victory 00:26:44.02\00:26:46.65 because the addiction, he was so used to the habit. 00:26:46.68\00:26:51.75 He was still leaving the avenue open there. 00:26:51.78\00:26:53.89 Right, he was not, he was not allowing 00:26:53.92\00:26:57.06 the propitiation of Christ to take effect. 00:26:57.09\00:26:59.75 He was not allowing the substitution, 00:26:59.78\00:27:02.78 and that's what that is all about. 00:27:02.81\00:27:04.41 You see, when you take something away, 00:27:04.44\00:27:05.74 it has to be immediately replaced with something else. 00:27:05.77\00:27:08.51 That's the other thing I was going to say. 00:27:08.54\00:27:09.57 You have to, but I can't carry, 00:27:09.60\00:27:13.37 I can't play on two basket ball teams 00:27:13.40\00:27:15.01 at the same time, it's impossible, 00:27:15.04\00:27:17.94 for me to play for the Lakers and the New York Knicks, 00:27:17.97\00:27:21.00 when they are playing against each other. 00:27:21.03\00:27:23.33 You've got to decide whose team you're on, 00:27:23.36\00:27:26.24 put on the uniform and play like a champion 00:27:26.27\00:27:29.18 because the Lord gives you the victory. 00:27:29.21\00:27:30.88 Then there are those, who sometimes honestly, 00:27:30.91\00:27:33.38 the chemicals and they say, well the chemical addiction, 00:27:33.41\00:27:36.40 well, I've been smoking so long. 00:27:36.43\00:27:38.25 The reason I am so adamant about this, is my mother, 00:27:38.28\00:27:41.86 and she is now resting now in the Lord, 00:27:41.89\00:27:43.62 she was a two to three pack smoker a day, 00:27:43.65\00:27:46.50 she was an alcoholic, 00:27:46.53\00:27:48.06 but she, I said, mom, go and claim the victory, 00:27:48.09\00:27:50.32 she went to a pastor, prayed 00:27:50.35\00:27:52.43 and from that day to the day 00:27:52.46\00:27:53.66 she passed away the craving was gone, 00:27:53.69\00:27:56.24 the addiction was gone. 00:27:56.27\00:27:58.05 The desire for it was gone, I mean instantly-- 00:27:58.08\00:28:01.73 Because of her willingness to cooperate 00:28:01.76\00:28:03.32 and to claim that victory and to walk in the victory. 00:28:03.35\00:28:06.48 You got to walk in the victory. 00:28:06.51\00:28:07.91 You know, the other part too 00:28:07.94\00:28:08.98 you made an interesting comment there 00:28:09.01\00:28:10.75 and I thought you're going to head this direction 00:28:10.78\00:28:11.99 but I'll emphasize what you were saying, was that, 00:28:12.02\00:28:14.41 you got to replace the habit with something else. Instantly. 00:28:14.44\00:28:17.31 Just like when you become a Christian, 00:28:17.34\00:28:19.29 you've got to replace with what you read 00:28:19.32\00:28:21.11 with the word of God because the word of God 00:28:21.14\00:28:23.15 gives you power and strength. You like to read? 00:28:23.18\00:28:25.00 But yeah, but even in the aspect of what we do, 00:28:25.03\00:28:29.76 surrounding when we eat, 00:28:29.79\00:28:31.38 surrounding when we're hanging out with our friends 00:28:31.41\00:28:32.91 and those other things, you got to replace 00:28:32.94\00:28:34.35 what you used to do, smoke with other things, 00:28:34.38\00:28:37.95 so some people say, well, you know, 00:28:37.98\00:28:40.23 we need to pick up the habit for a while of chewing gum, 00:28:40.26\00:28:43.62 you know, or they need to pick up the habit 00:28:43.65\00:28:45.46 of you know, doing something else like, 00:28:45.49\00:28:49.06 one person did lemons. 00:28:49.09\00:28:50.90 Every time they had the desire to pick up and smoke, 00:28:50.93\00:28:53.39 they enjoyed lemons, so they had lemons, 00:28:53.42\00:28:55.31 they would always cut up and they started eating lemons 00:28:55.34\00:28:57.03 and they build the lemon habit over the smoking habit. 00:28:57.06\00:29:00.53 They replaced it. 00:29:00.56\00:29:01.59 So they replaced it there, 00:29:01.62\00:29:02.93 so physically there are things you need to do, 00:29:02.96\00:29:05.90 but as you do those, you link the victory 00:29:05.93\00:29:09.36 and you walk forward in victory in Christ. 00:29:09.39\00:29:12.04 So couple of aspects that we hope 00:29:12.07\00:29:13.83 that we can give you to encourage you there, 00:29:13.86\00:29:16.43 because through Christ all things are possible. 00:29:16.46\00:29:19.00 That's exactly. 00:29:19.03\00:29:20.62 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 00:29:20.65\00:29:22.90 Thank you, for all your Bible comments and questions 00:29:22.93\00:29:25.67 and as we mentioned before. 00:29:25.70\00:29:26.93 If you have any more comments or questions, 00:29:26.96\00:29:28.90 you can send them to housecalls@3abn.org 00:29:28.93\00:29:33.20 that's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:29:33.23\00:29:37.66 And once again we do accept snail mail, 00:29:37.69\00:29:40.51 PO Box 220, West Frankfurt, 00:29:40.54\00:29:43.53 Illinois 62896. 00:29:43.56\00:29:47.53 Thank you for all of your comments and questions. 00:29:47.56\00:29:50.02 And today we are going into 00:29:50.05\00:29:52.66 the next part of the topic of salvation. 00:29:52.69\00:29:56.05 John, this is such an interesting topic. 00:29:56.08\00:29:58.98 On our last program, we made some headway 00:29:59.01\00:30:01.84 but today we're going to dive in little more deeply 00:30:01.87\00:30:04.08 into this program about salvation 00:30:04.11\00:30:05.88 because everyone wants to be saved. 00:30:05.91\00:30:07.90 I went to a church not too long ago, 00:30:07.93\00:30:09.82 when I asked this question, in the midst of the sermon. 00:30:09.85\00:30:14.08 I said, if you want to go to hell, raise your hand. 00:30:14.11\00:30:18.08 There was little kid raises his hand 00:30:18.11\00:30:20.46 and obviously he didn't understand. 00:30:20.49\00:30:22.34 But no one else raised their hand. 00:30:22.37\00:30:23.89 And I said, what amazes me is that, 00:30:23.92\00:30:26.24 none of you raised your hand, 00:30:26.27\00:30:27.38 yet when the call is going to be, 00:30:27.41\00:30:28.67 when the call is made at the end of the sermon, 00:30:28.70\00:30:30.67 I wonder how many of you 00:30:30.70\00:30:31.73 are going to respond to go to heaven. 00:30:31.76\00:30:34.00 Now praise God, the response was tremendous at the very end 00:30:34.03\00:30:38.96 because I believe that I laid the foundation-- 00:30:38.99\00:30:40.63 the break seems hold on them earlier. 00:30:40.66\00:30:42.99 They said, no one wants to go to hell. 00:30:43.02\00:30:44.30 So when I made the call to go to heaven, 00:30:44.33\00:30:46.26 everybody should respond. Sure. 00:30:46.29\00:30:47.91 And there was a tremendous response to that. 00:30:47.94\00:30:49.97 But when we think of salvation, this is something people need, 00:30:50.00\00:30:54.62 and it's a gift. 00:30:54.65\00:30:57.49 So let's go ahead, 00:30:57.52\00:30:59.21 I know we started with the most popular text last week. 00:30:59.24\00:31:03.00 Let's do that again on this program. 00:31:03.03\00:31:05.76 For those who may have missed the last broadcast, 00:31:05.79\00:31:08.12 begin with the central text. 00:31:08.15\00:31:10.97 And the one that I am thinking of is Ephesians 2:8-9, 00:31:11.00\00:31:15.59 but I want to go a different route this week 00:31:15.62\00:31:17.15 and start with John 3:16. 00:31:17.18\00:31:19.17 Yeah, we talked just to recap last time 00:31:19.20\00:31:22.05 about the three aspects of that salvation, 00:31:22.08\00:31:24.80 linking together, justification, 00:31:24.83\00:31:27.53 sanctification and glorification. 00:31:27.56\00:31:29.83 We didn't talk a lot about glorification, 00:31:29.86\00:31:31.38 but glorification is of course, 00:31:31.41\00:31:33.46 entering into the kingdom with a new body, 00:31:33.49\00:31:35.51 an incorruptible body living eternally with Christ. 00:31:35.54\00:31:39.36 So those three aspects we talked about 00:31:39.39\00:31:42.67 and to compare those three, 00:31:42.70\00:31:44.80 I think we defined that as justification as being 00:31:44.83\00:31:47.57 delivered from the penalty of sin. 00:31:47.60\00:31:50.32 Sanctification delivered from the power of sin. 00:31:50.35\00:31:53.91 And then glorification delivered from the presence of sin. 00:31:53.94\00:31:57.34 That sin is no more. 00:31:57.37\00:31:59.22 So now, now let's go back to a more practical aspect. 00:31:59.25\00:32:03.09 We talked about the theology a little bit. 00:32:03.12\00:32:05.75 Now let's go to the practical aspect, 00:32:05.78\00:32:07.07 the most popular text in the Bible. Oh, I think-- 00:32:07.10\00:32:09.63 I agree, let's go there, John, you have that probably. 00:32:09.66\00:32:11.76 You know, I don't know how, 00:32:11.79\00:32:12.87 I don't know if we get this text when we're born. 00:32:12.90\00:32:15.89 I don't know if this is the same thing, 00:32:15.92\00:32:17.12 they give us a baby blanket 00:32:17.15\00:32:18.32 and then they give us John 3:16, 00:32:18.35\00:32:19.73 but everybody knows this Bible verse. That's right. 00:32:19.76\00:32:24.23 We all know the King James Version. 00:32:24.26\00:32:26.25 The atheists could do this text by memory. 00:32:26.28\00:32:29.00 I think it's part of come into the world, 00:32:29.03\00:32:30.72 the Lord says, I'm going to make sure 00:32:30.75\00:32:32.24 that on the day you come out, 00:32:32.27\00:32:33.33 you have absolutely no excuse. 00:32:33.36\00:32:35.70 For God so loved the world. 00:32:35.73\00:32:39.30 Notice John, in California, you know kids would say, 00:32:39.33\00:32:41.67 I so love the car or I so don't-- 00:32:41.70\00:32:44.78 I'm so, you know, yeah the emphasis. 00:32:44.81\00:32:48.47 The Lord had that long before us. Yeah. 00:32:48.50\00:32:50.68 I don't just love you, I so loved the world, 00:32:50.71\00:32:53.43 for God so loved the world 00:32:53.46\00:32:54.73 that He gave His only begotten son 00:32:54.76\00:32:57.38 that whomsoever, 00:32:57.41\00:33:01.16 I mean, that's an invitation to everybody. 00:33:01.19\00:33:04.19 I am whomsoever- whosoever believed in Him, 00:33:04.22\00:33:07.97 should not perish, 00:33:08.00\00:33:10.28 but have everlasting life. That's right. 00:33:10.31\00:33:14.61 Salvation, ever lasting life, offered to everybody. 00:33:14.64\00:33:20.96 There's no essence for anybody to be lost, 00:33:20.99\00:33:23.15 but why is it that people don't accept salvation. 00:33:23.18\00:33:25.86 Let's begin to break this down into the context here. 00:33:25.89\00:33:27.71 Yeah, this text is so clear here, 00:33:27.74\00:33:29.48 and so good for us to start, John, 00:33:29.51\00:33:31.12 because it gives a two dichotomies here. 00:33:31.15\00:33:33.97 You have those who are lost, were born 00:33:34.00\00:33:37.31 because of Adam and Eve sin, 00:33:37.34\00:33:39.08 that's been passing death down to us 00:33:39.11\00:33:40.76 and sin down to us for a long time. 00:33:40.79\00:33:42.58 Every human being is being born 00:33:42.61\00:33:44.84 with a fallen state, a sinful state. 00:33:44.87\00:33:48.69 And as we grow into our age of capability 00:33:48.72\00:33:52.76 and other things we find that, 00:33:52.79\00:33:54.07 the sins that we are committing doom us to, 00:33:54.10\00:33:56.57 to not only death but to eternal death. Right. 00:33:56.60\00:34:00.09 And so this scriptures clearly gives us the dichotomy here, 00:34:00.12\00:34:03.67 that there's a death waiting at the door, 00:34:03.70\00:34:05.64 there's an eternal death waiting at the door 00:34:05.67\00:34:06.93 but God loved us too much to leave us there. That's right. 00:34:06.96\00:34:11.21 And so we all need salvation. 00:34:11.24\00:34:13.04 And here we had God enters into the picture. 00:34:13.07\00:34:15.84 And this is something I said often, 00:34:15.87\00:34:17.39 John, that Christianity provides the only avenue 00:34:17.42\00:34:22.27 for being saved from certain death, 00:34:22.30\00:34:25.13 because it says that God, 00:34:25.16\00:34:27.19 the creator of the world stepped in 00:34:27.22\00:34:29.39 and provided the way. 00:34:29.42\00:34:31.30 Other religions, that you'll find in this world teach this, 00:34:31.33\00:34:33.76 somehow we can arise above our condition 00:34:33.79\00:34:37.69 in doing enough to be able to receive from God, 00:34:37.72\00:34:41.29 a satisfactory stamp that says, 00:34:41.32\00:34:43.19 we have done enough to get to the next level, 00:34:43.22\00:34:45.12 to get to heaven. 00:34:45.15\00:34:46.18 Whether that be reincarnation 00:34:46.21\00:34:48.53 which some teach, whether that be paradise 00:34:48.56\00:34:51.81 where you have virgin women waiting for you, 00:34:51.84\00:34:54.61 whether that be all these other different aspects 00:34:54.64\00:34:56.60 of what is the perfect, you know, heaven to them. 00:34:56.63\00:34:59.68 But God says, that Jesus took our place, 00:34:59.71\00:35:03.50 took that penalty on our behalf. 00:35:03.53\00:35:05.63 And now gives it to us freely, 00:35:05.66\00:35:07.97 which is where we started our last text, Ephesians 2:8-9. 00:35:08.00\00:35:11.32 So this is the place we got to start, 00:35:11.35\00:35:13.15 because God gives us eternal life 00:35:13.18\00:35:15.63 where before were all we had, all we deserved, 00:35:15.66\00:35:18.75 all we were getting was eternal death. 00:35:18.78\00:35:21.63 Salvation at the core, what is it. 00:35:21.66\00:35:25.58 And I want to look at two sides. 00:35:25.61\00:35:28.45 I am going to start in Genesis 1, 00:35:28.48\00:35:31.00 because it is important to see, 00:35:31.03\00:35:32.79 if the Lord wants to restore us to before sin. 00:35:32.82\00:35:36.52 It's important for us to see, what we were before sin. 00:35:36.55\00:35:40.76 We always say salvation. What is salvation? 00:35:40.79\00:35:43.25 It's restoration to what we were before sin, 00:35:43.28\00:35:46.64 because if sin never entered the world, 00:35:46.67\00:35:48.34 that's the nature we would have. 00:35:48.37\00:35:50.63 That's the nature we would possess. 00:35:50.66\00:35:52.04 Another need for salvation too is redemption. Right. 00:35:52.07\00:35:54.65 And redemption is a redeeming back, 00:35:54.68\00:35:56.63 it's pulling it back to where it was, 00:35:56.66\00:35:58.41 putting in back on to that level where it was before. 00:35:58.44\00:36:01.43 I know my New York accent may get in the way here 00:36:01.46\00:36:03.11 but, a pawn, p-a-w-n shop. 00:36:03.14\00:36:07.04 I may want you to sermonize it. I know. 00:36:07.07\00:36:09.00 How many of you ever been to a pawn shop 00:36:09.03\00:36:11.35 and no one raised their hand and I wondered why. 00:36:11.38\00:36:13.68 And they said, my accent, it sounded different, 00:36:13.71\00:36:16.38 I said, you know on the military bases 00:36:16.41\00:36:18.46 where you go, buy things, 'oh-okay!' 00:36:18.49\00:36:20.95 I know, what you're talking about, 00:36:20.98\00:36:22.20 yeah, in fact, Rochelle and I still laugh at them, 00:36:22.23\00:36:23.81 because we looked around, we knew what you were to saying, 00:36:23.84\00:36:26.48 and everybody was like... 00:36:26.51\00:36:27.92 but what you didn't see, 00:36:27.95\00:36:29.35 John was a couple of people are like-- 00:36:29.38\00:36:33.41 and, of course, when you explained it, 00:36:33.44\00:36:34.54 they said, oh. Exactly. 00:36:34.57\00:36:36.97 But anyway one of those funny things 00:36:37.00\00:36:38.38 that happen at times. 00:36:38.41\00:36:39.44 And I thought redemption value, 00:36:39.47\00:36:41.27 because when you go and you, 00:36:41.30\00:36:42.55 you pawn your guitar, or your walkie-talkie 00:36:42.58\00:36:44.73 or whatever instrument you have, 00:36:44.76\00:36:46.90 and people want extra money. 00:36:46.93\00:36:49.42 You get this little ticket, 00:36:49.45\00:36:51.34 that you're able to bring it back to the shop 00:36:51.37\00:36:54.45 and you're able to redeem the item. 00:36:54.48\00:36:57.63 Well, you know friends, 00:36:57.66\00:36:59.12 Jesus when He-- his son was that ticket. 00:36:59.15\00:37:05.19 Over simplification of who Jesus is, 00:37:05.22\00:37:07.03 but He is the redeeming ticket. 00:37:07.06\00:37:09.19 Satan sold us off at next to nothing, 00:37:09.22\00:37:12.66 left us in somebody' possession, the possession of sin 00:37:12.69\00:37:16.40 and God sent His son with redeeming value 00:37:16.43\00:37:19.86 and paid for us, more than we were worth. 00:37:19.89\00:37:22.09 That's right. I mean that to me is great. 00:37:22.12\00:37:24.03 Praise the Lord and you're talking about Genesis 1 here. 00:37:24.06\00:37:27.20 We got to look how He created us. 00:37:27.23\00:37:29.65 And I'm going to read from Genesis 1:26. 00:37:29.68\00:37:31.41 That's from verse 26 and 27, that's-- 00:37:31.44\00:37:33.19 "God said, Let us make man in our image." 00:37:33.22\00:37:36.09 So God when He created us, human beings, 00:37:36.12\00:37:39.46 He made us like Him in character. 00:37:39.49\00:37:42.04 He didn't make us Gods, 00:37:42.07\00:37:43.19 as some religions teach, I want to emphasize that. 00:37:43.22\00:37:45.12 He didn't make us Gods, He made us human, 00:37:45.15\00:37:47.34 we were immortal, 00:37:47.37\00:37:48.49 we were eternal in the life He gave us, 00:37:48.52\00:37:50.88 but He made us man as human beings, 00:37:50.91\00:37:53.44 in the image of God. Let's correct some over here. 00:37:53.47\00:37:55.76 He didn't make us immortal, 00:37:55.79\00:37:57.11 but we had as long as we ate of the tree of life, 00:37:57.14\00:38:00.80 that life was sustained. 00:38:00.83\00:38:02.04 We didn't have the immortality yet. 00:38:02.07\00:38:03.90 No, yeah, and clearly, yes, that's true. 00:38:03.93\00:38:06.14 And--but He gave us that immortality through that tree, 00:38:06.17\00:38:10.06 but He wouldn't take away from us that we had clearly. 00:38:10.09\00:38:13.19 And it says that, "According to our likeness, 00:38:13.22\00:38:17.50 let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, 00:38:17.53\00:38:20.10 over the birds of the air, over the cattle, 00:38:20.13\00:38:22.22 over all the earth, and over every creeping thing 00:38:22.25\00:38:24.21 that creeps on the earth. 00:38:24.24\00:38:25.63 So God created man in his own image, 00:38:25.66\00:38:28.56 in the image of God he created him, 00:38:28.59\00:38:30.15 male and female he created them." 00:38:30.18\00:38:36.03 And of course, verse 31 says 00:38:36.06\00:38:37.81 "Everything that God saw he says, was very good. 00:38:37.84\00:38:41.93 He declared it very good. 00:38:41.96\00:38:43.62 So, John, we were created, 00:38:43.65\00:38:45.29 perfect, sinless, untainted by sin. 00:38:45.32\00:38:50.09 And it didn't mean that sin yet hadn't reared his head, 00:38:50.12\00:38:52.70 because it had. 00:38:52.73\00:38:53.76 Sin was out there but we were created sinless. 00:38:53.79\00:38:58.31 It was like that mosquito outside on the porch, 00:38:58.34\00:39:00.95 you know, I'll hear in Thompsonville, 00:39:00.98\00:39:02.58 the one thing we have is critters. 00:39:02.61\00:39:06.26 And at night, in summer time, 00:39:06.29\00:39:07.65 especially if you have a yellow light 00:39:07.68\00:39:08.78 on the back porch, you can see millions of, 00:39:08.81\00:39:12.12 you name it, mosquitoes, flies, moths, 00:39:12.15\00:39:16.70 and they are outside as long as you keep 00:39:16.73\00:39:18.36 the door shut, everything is fine. 00:39:18.39\00:39:21.61 And that was the case. 00:39:21.64\00:39:22.70 This picture that John just read about here, 00:39:22.73\00:39:24.52 was the door to sin was shut. 00:39:24.55\00:39:26.83 So we have the image of God. 00:39:26.86\00:39:28.72 Why do we need salvation? 00:39:28.75\00:39:31.00 Because we lost the image of God. 00:39:31.03\00:39:34.17 We yielded to sin, we opened that door to sin. 00:39:34.20\00:39:36.54 Yielding to sin, and that is the story of Genesis 3. 00:39:36.57\00:39:40.41 That whole controversy, and the fall of the man, 00:39:40.44\00:39:45.75 and losing the beauty that God gave us, 00:39:45.78\00:39:48.30 losing our stand with God. 00:39:48.33\00:39:50.92 Yielding to the temptation, Adam hid himself, 00:39:50.95\00:39:55.77 and when Lord came looking for Adam, 00:39:55.80\00:39:57.84 in that fallen state, 00:39:57.87\00:39:59.82 he could not at that moment 00:39:59.85\00:40:02.17 restore Adam to his rightful place, 00:40:02.20\00:40:05.44 because this whole thing of sin had to run its course, 00:40:05.47\00:40:09.52 and here we are, for thousands of years man are 00:40:09.55\00:40:13.30 and women and children, boys and girls were all victims 00:40:13.33\00:40:16.61 of the nature that was passed on. Yeah. 00:40:16.64\00:40:19.98 1 Corinthians 15-22, "For as in Adam all die, 00:40:20.01\00:40:23.88 even so in Christ shall all be made alive." 00:40:23.91\00:40:27.21 So we are born, John and I were born on that, 00:40:27.24\00:40:30.70 as an Adam we all die. 00:40:30.73\00:40:33.06 And so if you are watching this program, 00:40:33.09\00:40:34.46 listening to this program, keep this in mind, 00:40:34.49\00:40:37.26 it doesn't matter your financial status, 00:40:37.29\00:40:39.49 your educational, your place, your neighborhood 00:40:39.52\00:40:42.05 where you live, how many people know you, 00:40:42.08\00:40:43.94 how famous you are, or how insignificant 00:40:43.97\00:40:45.88 you may find yourself to be, 00:40:45.91\00:40:47.58 everyone of us, if we are not in the nature of Christ, 00:40:47.61\00:40:50.63 if we are not born again, we need to be born 00:40:50.66\00:40:53.99 because we are in that Adam nature, 00:40:54.02\00:40:55.74 and as an Adam all die. That's right. 00:40:55.77\00:40:58.73 You see, that perish aside, 00:40:58.76\00:41:00.71 that's exactly where we are right now. 00:41:00.74\00:41:04.39 And the reason why we are there is 00:41:04.42\00:41:05.85 because of the command of God, 00:41:05.88\00:41:07.87 He gave them, not to eat of a tree 00:41:07.90\00:41:10.20 of the knowledge of good and evil. 00:41:10.23\00:41:11.42 And of course, we know, for those of you 00:41:11.45\00:41:12.95 who know the rest of the story, 00:41:12.98\00:41:14.74 Eve wondered from Adam's side, 00:41:14.77\00:41:16.70 she was tempted by Satan, she ate of that fruit, 00:41:16.73\00:41:19.77 gave it to Adam and he ate them of that fruit 00:41:19.80\00:41:21.80 and we have this death, 00:41:21.83\00:41:23.53 you know, nature passed on to us, 00:41:23.56\00:41:24.94 and the sinful nature passed on to us. Now-- 00:41:24.97\00:41:28.21 But talk about this, John, I know you're going to do it, 00:41:28.24\00:41:30.53 but just talk about that, because the Lord says, 00:41:30.56\00:41:33.10 the day you eat of this tree, you shall surely die, 00:41:33.13\00:41:35.89 Adam didn't die that die, but what did die? 00:41:35.92\00:41:38.61 Spiritually he died. Okay. 00:41:38.64\00:41:40.10 His sins separated him from God, 00:41:40.13\00:41:42.06 and we find in the rest of the scripture, 00:41:42.09\00:41:43.29 telling us that sin does exactly that. 00:41:43.32\00:41:46.12 It separates us from God. 00:41:46.15\00:41:48.23 So it fractured everything that we had in God, 00:41:48.26\00:41:53.50 the image that was given to man, 00:41:53.53\00:41:55.01 the God's image that was put in man, 00:41:55.04\00:41:57.12 when He created him, it fractured that, 00:41:57.15\00:41:59.11 so we were separated from him. 00:41:59.14\00:42:00.40 So it talks about that too. 00:42:00.43\00:42:03.27 So when you are created, when you're born, 00:42:03.30\00:42:07.93 you're born as an old man state, the carnal nature, 00:42:07.96\00:42:12.30 and you do not have within you, 00:42:12.33\00:42:14.10 because you are in a fallen nature, 00:42:14.13\00:42:15.17 you don't have within you, God's image. 00:42:15.20\00:42:18.84 Right, you don't have this inherent desire 00:42:18.87\00:42:21.47 just to be perfect, okay. 00:42:21.50\00:42:23.63 So you have in fact one text is good for that 00:42:23.66\00:42:25.89 is Romans 3:23, we read the last time. 00:42:25.92\00:42:28.91 Yes, yes. Here it is. 00:42:28.94\00:42:30.95 You're at there. Okay. 00:42:30.98\00:42:32.31 Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, 00:42:32.34\00:42:37.21 and fall short of the glory of God." 00:42:37.24\00:42:40.84 And it is a good text because 00:42:40.87\00:42:42.33 the sin is missing the mark there. Right. 00:42:42.36\00:42:44.90 We're born missing it, we can't hit it ourselves. 00:42:44.93\00:42:48.71 We'll fall short of God's glory, 00:42:48.74\00:42:50.59 what He had given us from the beginning. 00:42:50.62\00:42:52.54 He designed that we would have our glory. 00:42:52.57\00:42:56.03 But now we don't have it and we need salvation. 00:42:56.06\00:42:59.43 And the other thing about it is, 00:42:59.46\00:43:00.60 one of the reasons why we must be born again is 00:43:00.63\00:43:02.32 because we cannot-we cannot even be cloned into being good. 00:43:02.35\00:43:06.52 You know, there is this cloning thing going on nowadays 00:43:06.55\00:43:08.50 that people want to have it, maintain a thorough bred 00:43:08.53\00:43:10.94 and so they get the dog, they clone the dog, 00:43:10.97\00:43:13.42 or they clone the cow, or they clone the goat 00:43:13.45\00:43:15.18 or they are into this cloning aspect. 00:43:15.21\00:43:17.50 Salvation is not cloning. 00:43:17.53\00:43:19.87 Salvation is being born again, 00:43:19.90\00:43:21.19 because we are born unable, we all sin, we all fall short. 00:43:21.22\00:43:26.28 So you cannot create anybody from the womb, 00:43:26.31\00:43:29.33 nobody can come into the world, 00:43:29.36\00:43:30.69 that would be-- that will make the mark. 00:43:30.72\00:43:33.30 Because that nature 00:43:33.33\00:43:34.41 that Adam passed on to every one of us, 00:43:34.44\00:43:36.60 we possess at the time of birth. 00:43:36.63\00:43:40.94 How is this different from the phrase, original sin? 00:43:40.97\00:43:44.77 You know, that phrase original sin. 00:43:44.80\00:43:47.61 It's just amazing. 00:43:47.64\00:43:48.92 But let me not go down that path right now. 00:43:48.95\00:43:51.14 And may be you could submit that question, 00:43:51.17\00:43:52.65 I just kind of doing out there. 00:43:52.68\00:43:53.96 Yeah, I'm going to read, Romans 6:23, 00:43:53.99\00:43:56.92 because we needed to transition 00:43:56.95\00:43:58.01 to kind of what the result is of this. Yes. 00:43:58.04\00:44:00.85 "The wages of sin which Adam and Eve committed 00:44:00.88\00:44:03.58 and pass on to us is death" 00:44:03.61\00:44:07.65 but the gift of God, notice what is it, it's a gift, 00:44:07.68\00:44:11.53 "the gift of God is eternal life in whom, 00:44:11.56\00:44:15.15 Christ, Jesus our Lord." Okay, so clearly it's a gift. 00:44:15.18\00:44:18.99 And we read that from last, in our last program 00:44:19.02\00:44:20.88 Ephesians 2:8-9 that God's gift comes by grace, 00:44:20.91\00:44:26.16 through faith in Jesus Christ. 00:44:26.19\00:44:29.20 And so for those of you who may have heard, 00:44:29.23\00:44:32.44 let's deal with this right upfront. 00:44:32.47\00:44:34.19 They may have heard, well those Seventh day Adventist 00:44:34.22\00:44:35.95 and they keep the law 00:44:35.98\00:44:37.72 and you know, they are little bit of, 00:44:37.75\00:44:39.83 they focus on the legal aspects of salvation, 00:44:39.86\00:44:42.34 all the things you need to do. 00:44:42.37\00:44:43.97 Let's dispel that. Right. Right here. 00:44:44.00\00:44:47.17 The Seventh-day Adventist Christian 00:44:47.20\00:44:49.89 from what we find in God's word 00:44:49.92\00:44:51.95 that eternal life, the gift that we receive is free. 00:44:51.98\00:44:56.06 That's right. 00:44:56.09\00:44:57.83 I-the sermon I preached this last Sabbath was, 00:44:57.86\00:45:04.51 going for gold. 00:45:04.54\00:45:06.14 Of course, playing on the Olympics, going for gold. 00:45:06.17\00:45:08.79 And the second part of that title was 00:45:08.82\00:45:13.31 the 'Divine law of reciprocity' 00:45:13.34\00:45:16.30 which is they are coming back 00:45:16.33\00:45:18.73 you know, as someone gives, 00:45:18.76\00:45:20.42 the natural inclination of someone 00:45:20.45\00:45:21.79 is to want to give back, 00:45:21.82\00:45:23.93 God operates within that law and He instill that within us. 00:45:23.96\00:45:26.92 When God gives us salvation it's a free gift, 00:45:26.95\00:45:30.97 but there is reciprocity attached to it, 00:45:31.00\00:45:33.85 because He wants us to respond 00:45:33.88\00:45:37.06 and He built within us the natural inclination 00:45:37.09\00:45:39.15 to want to respond to God. The vacuum. 00:45:39.18\00:45:43.37 Yeah, they are saying, 00:45:43.40\00:45:44.54 you gave me such an incredible gift, 00:45:44.57\00:45:47.20 I want to respond to you by giving you my best. 00:45:47.23\00:45:50.76 And in my relationship with Rochelle, yours in Angie. 00:45:50.79\00:45:54.10 If our relationship was one sided, 00:45:54.13\00:45:56.26 if it was a bunch of take, take, take, 00:45:56.29\00:45:59.63 how long would that relationship really last? 00:45:59.66\00:46:01.80 Wow, it wouldn't last very long. 00:46:01.83\00:46:04.12 But you know when Rochelle does something for me 00:46:04.15\00:46:06.49 that's really nice, I say within myself, 00:46:06.52\00:46:10.21 well, I want to do something back for her. 00:46:10.24\00:46:12.72 I want to give something back to her, 00:46:12.75\00:46:13.93 it's just built within me. 00:46:13.96\00:46:15.56 And that's why I called the divine law of reciprocity. 00:46:15.59\00:46:17.94 Naturally God gave us 00:46:17.97\00:46:19.15 the inclination to want to do something good 00:46:19.18\00:46:20.79 back to somebody else. 00:46:20.82\00:46:21.85 But here's what we teach in Christianity today at large. 00:46:21.88\00:46:26.35 We often say that God gave us the free gift, 00:46:26.38\00:46:28.49 with no inclination to respond, 00:46:28.52\00:46:31.67 and you don't have to respond, 00:46:31.70\00:46:32.99 you don't have to respond on that inclination 00:46:33.02\00:46:34.58 that He gave you to give back. 00:46:34.61\00:46:36.49 You just walk in the gift and you're fine. 00:46:36.52\00:46:39.73 But I believe, rather than tying 00:46:39.76\00:46:42.16 a legalistic approach to this, 00:46:42.19\00:46:43.40 that we have to keep the commandments of God, 00:46:43.43\00:46:45.13 what I'm saying here is that God gives us the free gift, 00:46:45.16\00:46:48.55 and builds within us the desire to give back to Him, 00:46:48.58\00:46:50.86 which is in what form, following His ways, 00:46:50.89\00:46:53.64 keeping His love, walking in His spirit. 00:46:53.67\00:46:55.82 Those things that are part of the whole relationship 00:46:55.85\00:46:59.18 that God has given to us. 00:46:59.21\00:47:01.59 So when you meet the Lord, 00:47:01.62\00:47:04.25 when you meet Jesus and you say, 00:47:04.28\00:47:06.27 "I understand the gift You have given me Lord, 00:47:06.30\00:47:08.51 You've died for me, 00:47:08.54\00:47:09.57 You've paid the penalty for my penalty, 00:47:09.60\00:47:11.92 the penalty of death, 00:47:11.95\00:47:13.54 I want to respond to you and when I respond to you, 00:47:13.57\00:47:15.79 I am giving you my all." That's not legalism, John. 00:47:15.82\00:47:19.94 That is God willing us to have relationship with Him. 00:47:19.97\00:47:23.64 And when we aren't giving back, 00:47:23.67\00:47:25.23 when we are not following His ways, 00:47:25.26\00:47:27.16 what we are saying is that's a fracture relationship, 00:47:27.19\00:47:29.35 it's not whole. Right. 00:47:29.38\00:47:31.17 The whole part is not there. 00:47:31.20\00:47:32.25 We need to respond in the way that it gives us back 00:47:32.28\00:47:34.81 and that's not legalism. 00:47:34.84\00:47:36.26 Keeping the commandments of God 00:47:36.29\00:47:37.46 is our best response 00:47:37.49\00:47:39.24 for what He has given freely to us. 00:47:39.27\00:47:42.90 When you say freely, I like that 00:47:42.93\00:47:44.83 because I was reading as you were- 00:47:44.86\00:47:47.07 actually was glancing at it 00:47:47.10\00:47:48.13 as you were making that comment that-- 00:47:48.16\00:47:50.88 let's reiterate this, Ephesians 2:8-9, " 00:47:50.91\00:47:53.79 For by grace are you saved through faith." 00:47:53.82\00:47:57.51 Now what John was saying is exactly what the Bible says. 00:47:57.54\00:48:00.43 We are saved by grace through faith. 00:48:00.46\00:48:02.63 But Paul asked the question in Romans 3:31, 00:48:02.66\00:48:05.63 "Do we make void the law through faith?" 00:48:05.66\00:48:09.32 And he says, "Certainly not or God forbid. 00:48:09.35\00:48:12.04 On the contrary, we establish the law." 00:48:12.07\00:48:15.65 You see that faith 00:48:15.68\00:48:17.13 through which we were saved is also the faith 00:48:17.16\00:48:19.69 through which we establish God's law in our lives. 00:48:19.72\00:48:23.15 So that faith is not a free will faith, 00:48:23.18\00:48:26.83 that term is so misused. 00:48:26.86\00:48:29.39 I've seen you know, church free will this 00:48:29.42\00:48:31.44 and free will that, almost like to say, 00:48:31.47\00:48:33.36 my will is up to me. 00:48:33.39\00:48:35.03 Nobody can tell me what to do with my will. 00:48:35.06\00:48:36.95 And they use the word free will 00:48:36.98\00:48:38.82 as a license to ignore God's law. 00:48:38.85\00:48:41.62 But listen to the salvation again, 00:48:41.65\00:48:43.79 Romans 5:17, 00:48:43.82\00:48:46.26 "For if by one man's offense death reigned through the one," 00:48:46.29\00:48:50.29 Romans 5:17, 00:48:50.32\00:48:52.38 "Much more those who receive abundance of grace 00:48:52.41\00:48:57.36 and of the gift of righteousness 00:48:57.39\00:49:00.08 will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." 00:49:00.11\00:49:04.46 Now verse 18, "Therefore, as through one man's offense," 00:49:04.49\00:49:10.22 that is Adam, "Judgment came to all men, 00:49:10.25\00:49:13.07 resulting in condemnation," that's the downside, 00:49:13.10\00:49:18.08 "Even so through one Man's righteous act, " that's Christ, 00:49:18.11\00:49:22.53 "The free gift came to all men, 00:49:22.56\00:49:25.53 resulting in justification of life." 00:49:25.56\00:49:29.10 So one man brought death, one man brought offence 00:49:29.13\00:49:32.48 but the other one brought life, 00:49:32.51\00:49:33.87 the other one brought justification. 00:49:33.90\00:49:35.87 See, so we were born in that death, in that offence 00:49:35.90\00:49:38.96 but salvation takes you now to the life 00:49:38.99\00:49:42.35 and to the justification in that life, 00:49:42.38\00:49:44.80 that's why salvation is so necessary. Yeah. 00:49:44.83\00:49:46.63 It takes you off death row. 00:49:46.66\00:49:49.11 I like the way you're talking about that 00:49:49.14\00:49:50.18 because the response there 00:49:50.21\00:49:51.58 that we give in giving back to God is the relationship, 00:49:51.61\00:49:54.92 the ongoing relationship we have with Him in salvation. 00:49:54.95\00:49:58.31 And that means He wants to appropriate to us 00:49:58.34\00:50:02.30 His perfect life. 00:50:02.33\00:50:04.38 Oh, wonderful. Okay. 00:50:04.41\00:50:05.85 So in this aspect there is no other savior. 00:50:05.88\00:50:09.34 You cannot find another savior 00:50:09.37\00:50:10.51 because there is not perfect being 00:50:10.54\00:50:12.69 that has ever walked this earth in our shoes 00:50:12.72\00:50:15.21 that can give us a perfect life freely 00:50:15.24\00:50:18.43 which we can't do ourselves. 00:50:18.46\00:50:20.47 So well, many religions would teach you do-- 00:50:20.50\00:50:22.65 you know, achieve profession by doing the best you can. 00:50:22.68\00:50:26.24 You know, make sure you find it within yourself 00:50:26.27\00:50:28.56 to rise above that sin 00:50:28.59\00:50:30.65 and get in that level that God will accept you. 00:50:30.68\00:50:34.27 Jesus says, "I've done it." 00:50:34.30\00:50:36.70 I didn't know-- I don't committed no sin, 00:50:36.73\00:50:39.40 your sin was put on me, 00:50:39.43\00:50:41.19 I bought but now I give you in exchange 00:50:41.22\00:50:43.32 for that my perfect life. 00:50:43.35\00:50:45.51 And so when we talk about Jesus as our savior, 00:50:45.54\00:50:47.50 there is none other who can give me a perfect life 00:50:47.53\00:50:51.15 and declare me righteous in Him 00:50:51.18\00:50:53.22 because I believe in Him. 00:50:53.25\00:50:54.90 And so, John, there is a transaction here. 00:50:54.93\00:50:57.78 Salvation is about not just-- 00:50:57.81\00:51:01.45 not just receiving salvation, eternal life 00:51:01.48\00:51:04.54 but it's walking in the newness of life 00:51:04.57\00:51:06.77 that God gives us through Jesus every day, 00:51:06.80\00:51:09.44 so that we are seen as perfect in Him. 00:51:09.47\00:51:13.16 You put on this robe of righteousness 00:51:13.19\00:51:15.49 that it now allows the glory of God to be seen in our lives. 00:51:15.52\00:51:19.67 And it cannot be one way, it has to be a transaction. 00:51:19.70\00:51:23.54 Matter of fact here is that transaction summarized, 00:51:23.57\00:51:26.49 Romans 5:19, 00:51:26.52\00:51:28.20 "For by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, 00:51:28.23\00:51:32.44 so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous." 00:51:32.47\00:51:37.89 That's transaction. 00:51:37.92\00:51:39.34 You took from Adam something that messed your life up. 00:51:39.37\00:51:41.83 Now take from Christ 00:51:41.86\00:51:42.89 something that will put your life together, you see. 00:51:42.92\00:51:45.26 And here's what we see sometimes, 00:51:45.29\00:51:46.63 now you receive Christ obedience 00:51:46.66\00:51:48.18 so now go out and do what you want to do. Oh. 00:51:48.21\00:51:51.97 As if somehow obedience is not required of the Christian. 00:51:52.00\00:51:55.03 I mean, are we actually saying that God's Ten Commandments 00:51:55.06\00:51:57.30 are ten suggestions 00:51:57.33\00:51:59.02 or the way you should live. No, no. 00:51:59.05\00:52:02.03 That's impossible but that's an entirely different subject, 00:52:02.06\00:52:04.95 and we can talk about that for a long time. 00:52:04.98\00:52:07.30 But I do want to say this, 00:52:07.33\00:52:08.69 let's open up a small can of worms here. Okay. 00:52:08.72\00:52:11.55 What we find is that a lot of people say, 00:52:11.58\00:52:14.31 well, Christ lived out that perfect life for us. 00:52:14.34\00:52:18.08 But he did that through His Godness, 00:52:18.11\00:52:21.69 His divine power that He gives to us. 00:52:21.72\00:52:27.24 But I find that if He somehow did not conquer 00:52:27.27\00:52:33.19 from our standpoint, our advantage point 00:52:33.22\00:52:35.61 that He doesn't become a complete savior for mankind. 00:52:35.64\00:52:39.86 So what we find here is a little bit of distortion, 00:52:39.89\00:52:42.64 there's a little disagreement within Christianity 00:52:42.67\00:52:44.30 is to what nature that Jesus come in. 00:52:44.33\00:52:47.67 You know, did He come in, 00:52:47.70\00:52:50.21 in a perfect nature of His Godness 00:52:50.24\00:52:52.79 relying on His divinity 00:52:52.82\00:52:54.86 and He wasn't susceptible to sin when Satan tempted Him. 00:52:54.89\00:52:59.17 You know, there wasn't even a chance of failure 00:52:59.20\00:53:02.23 or did He come to be like one of us, 00:53:02.26\00:53:06.34 conquer in from our position and then He says to us, here, 00:53:06.37\00:53:11.85 now I have given you the ability to do that. 00:53:11.88\00:53:14.23 Now work with Me, have a relationship with Me 00:53:14.26\00:53:16.33 to the point where you now can conquer in my strength 00:53:16.36\00:53:20.56 and I can lift you by bridging that gulf 00:53:20.59\00:53:25.10 between divinity and humanity. 00:53:25.13\00:53:26.56 I can now allow you to be a partaker of my divinity 00:53:26.59\00:53:29.80 which is the power of my resurrection 00:53:29.83\00:53:31.68 to bring you up to that level of salvation 00:53:31.71\00:53:34.78 where now you are new in Christ. 00:53:34.81\00:53:37.22 See, if Jesus-- 00:53:37.25\00:53:39.47 I believe if Jesus didn't come to be like one of us, 00:53:39.50\00:53:43.46 He cannot be a complete savior. Right. 00:53:43.49\00:53:47.25 Because He have to live to-- 00:53:47.28\00:53:48.45 He came, He had to come 00:53:48.48\00:53:50.55 in the nature of Adam after the fall. That's right. 00:53:50.58\00:53:53.68 Because there's not way that 00:53:53.71\00:53:54.80 Hebrews 4:15 could have been true, 00:53:54.83\00:53:57.01 "For we do not have a high priest 00:53:57.04\00:53:58.64 who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses," 00:53:58.67\00:54:00.97 He does sympathize with our weakness 00:54:01.00\00:54:02.52 and here is the reason why, 00:54:02.55\00:54:04.05 "But was in all points tempted 00:54:04.08\00:54:06.98 as we are, now yet without sin." 00:54:07.01\00:54:10.64 The emphasis there is not on the temptation. 00:54:10.67\00:54:13.09 The emphasis is on the nature in which He was tempted. 00:54:13.12\00:54:16.32 You get my point, John. 00:54:16.35\00:54:17.56 The emphasis is not, oh, was He tempted by drugs, 00:54:17.59\00:54:20.31 was He tempted by alcohol, 00:54:20.34\00:54:21.54 was He tempted by stealing a car, 00:54:21.57\00:54:23.75 was He tempted by internet theft? 00:54:23.78\00:54:25.97 No that's' not the emphasis there, 00:54:26.00\00:54:27.33 the emphasis there is tempted in the very nature 00:54:27.36\00:54:30.63 that we are tempted in. That's right. 00:54:30.66\00:54:32.31 Because people say, "Well, how could that be true that 00:54:32.34\00:54:34.32 there were not temptations then that they are now?" 00:54:34.35\00:54:37.30 That's not the focal point, the focal point, 00:54:37.33\00:54:39.38 He was tempted in all points as we are. 00:54:39.41\00:54:42.64 Every point that He was tempted in, 00:54:42.67\00:54:43.92 he had the same nature that we have. 00:54:43.95\00:54:45.55 That's' the focal point of the text. 00:54:45.58\00:54:47.34 So don't look at the itemization of sin, 00:54:47.37\00:54:49.97 look at the nature in which the sin comes to us. 00:54:50.00\00:54:53.61 So if a person is tempted by hunger 00:54:53.64\00:54:56.25 as he was in the wilderness or tempted for the kingdoms 00:54:56.28\00:54:58.88 and fame of the world as many people are, 00:54:58.91\00:55:01.49 it's the same nature He faced those temptations with, 00:55:01.52\00:55:04.93 that's what the Bible is talking about. 00:55:04.96\00:55:06.98 Hebrews 2:14, "In as much then as the children of God, 00:55:07.01\00:55:10.70 or children have partaken of flesh and blood, 00:55:10.73\00:55:13.35 He Himself likewise shared in the same." 00:55:13.38\00:55:17.67 Verse 17, "Therefore, in all things 00:55:17.70\00:55:19.98 He had to be made like His brethren, 00:55:20.01\00:55:23.56 that He might be a merciful 00:55:23.59\00:55:25.41 and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, 00:55:25.44\00:55:27.78 to make propitiation for the sins of the people 00:55:27.81\00:55:30.47 for in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, 00:55:30.50\00:55:32.74 He is able to aid those who are tempted." 00:55:32.77\00:55:35.40 He overcame from where we are, 00:55:35.43\00:55:39.69 He came down to be a man 00:55:39.72\00:55:40.82 so that we can overcome though now 00:55:40.85\00:55:43.39 His strength and His power. That's right. 00:55:43.42\00:55:45.03 There's linking of God reaching down to humanity 00:55:45.06\00:55:48.00 and now humanity by faith reaching up to God 00:55:48.03\00:55:51.21 and there is the salvation. 00:55:51.24\00:55:52.92 If we didn't have that then He would-- 00:55:52.95\00:55:56.11 this whole thing about salvation 00:55:56.14\00:55:57.62 would be ethereal or be unreachable, 00:55:57.65\00:56:00.28 will be in fact a facade. 00:56:00.31\00:56:02.14 Think about what Satan would-- 00:56:02.17\00:56:04.55 how Satan will have a problem if God, 00:56:04.58\00:56:06.43 if Jesus came as God. 00:56:06.46\00:56:08.96 If Jesus really couldn't be tempted, 00:56:08.99\00:56:11.05 if He really couldn't have failed, 00:56:11.08\00:56:13.42 why would Satan have even tempted Him? Right. 00:56:13.45\00:56:15.98 Satan would have claimed foul. 00:56:16.01\00:56:17.80 You can't give them Your life because I can't tempt You. 00:56:17.83\00:56:20.82 You are not susceptible to me and You can't overcome. 00:56:20.85\00:56:23.14 There's no overcoming, You're God. 00:56:23.17\00:56:25.15 He didn't say that because Satan knew 00:56:25.18\00:56:27.45 that He would come like us 00:56:27.48\00:56:28.99 and if he can get Christ to fail, 00:56:29.02\00:56:31.03 then the whole world would be lost to His dominion. 00:56:31.06\00:56:34.14 So, powerful thing, 00:56:34.17\00:56:35.22 I just want to share that, throw that out there 00:56:35.25\00:56:36.90 because there are some that believe, 00:56:36.93\00:56:38.66 well, you know, God can do anything 00:56:38.69\00:56:40.66 because He was God. 00:56:40.69\00:56:41.72 No, He did it in-- from where we were 00:56:41.75\00:56:45.27 depending upon His father for the strength 00:56:45.30\00:56:47.09 and now we can depend upon His father as well 00:56:47.12\00:56:49.55 through the power of the Holy Spirit. 00:56:49.58\00:56:50.65 Right, we follow, friends, in essence, 00:56:50.68\00:56:53.24 we follow the pattern of Jesus 00:56:53.27\00:56:55.43 but not just the pattern of Jesus, 00:56:55.46\00:56:58.27 we are now walking in His life 00:56:58.30\00:57:00.36 or walking in the newness of life. 00:57:00.39\00:57:02.18 And, John, that newness of life is the life that Jesus said, 00:57:02.21\00:57:06.25 He had completely regained 00:57:06.28\00:57:09.18 and captured after the resurrection. 00:57:09.21\00:57:12.28 Now has come salvation and strength. 00:57:12.31\00:57:15.05 And so friends, as we will continue in our next program 00:57:15.08\00:57:17.73 the topic of salvation, know this that, 00:57:17.76\00:57:19.98 that great love that Christ has 00:57:20.01\00:57:21.81 for every one of us is available today 00:57:21.84\00:57:24.74 and that salvation is available today. 00:57:24.77\00:57:27.62 Accept the Lord in your life 00:57:27.65\00:57:28.74 and walk in His saving grace as Christ is your righteousness. 00:57:28.77\00:57:32.71 Have a great day in Christ. Amen. 00:57:32.74\00:57:35.10
