that God impressed me

Now, I don't do that very often.

I felt like, oh, that's
the last thing I want to do.

impression was really strong.

And the other problem was,

is that I was
irritated right now.

And I thought to
myself, this is not the time

to be studying the Word of God.

And then there was the text,

I opened up to
Hebrews Chapter 12.

This is the book we've been
studying for the last few days,

the theme, Something Better.

And we've looked at
the Languages of Love,

the Heart Transplanter,

the Faith of Jesus,

and now the Finisher.

So these were the Bible
verses that God led me to read

and I started reading them.

And in Hebrews 12:1-3,

"Wherefore seeing
we also are compassed

how it is that we are to strive

It just doesn't
make sense to me.

that I start sweating like Jesus

See, I'd always looked at this
verse from that perspective.

How do I do
this? How do I do this?

How do I do this?

And I think a lot of times

when we come to the Word of God,

that's the perspective we have.

We read God's
Word, and we think,

how do I get this done?

How do I get that done?

And sometimes we
even jump ahead of God,

and we say, "You
know, everything you said,

I'm going to do, I'm
just going to do it."

Kind of like that Old Covenant
promise that the children

of Israel made.

And as I sat
there, I started thinking,

"How did Jesus do it?
00:16:19.21\00:16:21.18
How did Jesus strive
against sin resisting unto...
00:16:21.21\00:16:24.98
What did He do?"
00:16:25.01\00:16:26.35
I started asking a different
question, not how do I do it?
00:16:26.38\00:16:29.72
But how did He do it? I
started focusing on Christ.
00:16:29.75\00:16:33.36
That's where our
focus needs to be, isn't it?

It needs to be on
Jesus, because He's the author,

and He's the finisher.
00:16:37.23\00:16:38.56
And so I started
focusing on Christ.

And when I did that,
when I asked that question,

light just
started streaming through.

I mean, in this packed airport,
00:16:47.34\00:16:49.77
with my Bible open with
all those people around me,

I actually felt like I
was filled with the joy

of the Holy Spirit.
00:16:56.31\00:16:57.65
And I started
seeing this text unfold

as I never had before.

This new focus on
Christ impressed me

to ask the
question, "Well, where was it
00:17:04.19\00:17:08.12
that Christ
resisted sin unto blood?
00:17:08.16\00:17:12.26
Where was it He was
striving against sin,
00:17:12.29\00:17:15.66
so that He sweat
great drops of blood?"
00:17:15.70\00:17:19.30
And the answer, of course,
that came back was Matthew 26,
00:17:19.33\00:17:23.27
the Garden of Gethsemane.
00:17:23.30\00:17:24.94
This is where Christ resisted,
00:17:24.97\00:17:28.28
striving against sin unto blood.
00:17:28.31\00:17:30.51
And so I went back
to Matthew Chapter 26,
00:17:30.55\00:17:32.28
and I was reading
Matthew Chapter 26.
00:17:32.31\00:17:34.28
Now, before this time, I had,
you know, an irritated mind,

but I wanted the
patience and I wanted the joy.

So I was
claiming those promises,
00:17:41.52\00:17:42.86
as I was reading, and I
went to Matthew Chapter 26.
00:17:42.89\00:17:45.59
And I went back to the
section where it kind of begins,
00:17:45.63\00:17:48.50
you know, this is
just before Gethsemane,
00:17:48.53\00:17:50.80
and I thought, in my mind,
00:17:50.83\00:17:52.17
what was Jesus doing
just before Gethsemane
00:17:52.20\00:17:55.44
that prepared Him for
the Gethsemane ordeal.
00:17:55.47\00:17:58.94
'Cause I started
realizing, you know,
00:17:58.97\00:18:00.31
maybe it's not so
much sweating blood
00:18:00.34\00:18:03.41
that God is
asking us to do here.
00:18:03.45\00:18:04.78
But maybe it's the
preparation that comes

where Jesus
engaged in before He went

to have the last supper

with His disciples.

And in verses

And as they did eat,

one of you shall betray Me."

Now, the reason why I
think this is so important

is because these are the
last moments of Christ's life

final moments of our life

is He exposes apostasy.

He talks about the apostasy,

the betrayal
that's going to take place

right within the 12,
right within the church.

In other words, He doesn't
shy away from confronting

the elephant in the room.

He confronts the elephant
in the room and He says,

"Basically, one of you
is going to betray Me."

Now, the reason why I
think this is so significant

is because Jesus
later tells us that Judas

or the Bible tells us that Judas
00:19:50.29\00:19:51.72
is called the son of perdition.
00:19:51.75\00:19:53.86
And that son of
perdition was to be revealed,

according to John 13:19.

So the disciples
could have courage

after Christ's
death and resurrection.

You see, if the
disciples had not been told

about this apostasy,
when the apostasy came,

when Judas betrayed Him,

it would have put
doubt into their minds

that Jesus was actually
prepared for what was coming.

But because Jesus
foretold this apostasy,

because Jesus

"I've told you ahead of time
so that when it comes to pass,

He was talking specifically

about Judas, the
son of perdition,

according to John 17:12.

When Jesus told
the disciples this,

it helped their faith
to know that Jesus knew

that this was coming.

And so I want to
say to you this evening,

that it's so important for us

because we're told
in 2 Thessalonians 2:3,

that there is
another son of perdition,

the lawless one, the
Antichrist that is coming.

And it's so
important for us as Christians,

as Bible believing Christians,
00:20:54.15\00:20:56.58
not to avoid an
understanding of this truth.

Jesus didn't avoid it,

He didn't avoid
exposing the son of perdition.

A lot of people
will read the Bible

and they'll get to
the Book of Revelation,

they'll say, "I'm
not going any further.
00:21:07.20\00:21:08.53
I don't want to
even know about that.

I don't want to
understand the Antichrist."

And then, of
course, Satan has all kinds

of different
interpretations to get off,

get us off base as Christians,

so we can't even figure out
who or what the Antichrist is.

Is it a computer? Is it a
beast in a museum somewhere?

What is this Antichrist?

Jesus exposes,

He brings up the conversation
because He knows it's going

to build the
faith of the disciples,

and we need to
do the same thing.

I believe the mark of the beast

is like the ace in
our pocket, so to speak.

I believe that when
we share with people

what we know about
the son of perdition

and the apostasy that's

their faith is
going to be built up.

And God is
encouraging us to do this,

we cannot neglect
it, 'cause Jesus didn't.

This is what prepared Him

to be faithful to

and we need to be prepared.

We don't want all of
these events to happen.

You didn't tell us?

Now, of course, sometimes
it's kind of embarrassing,

and we feel embarrassed.

Because what we say
how we interpret prophecy

will sometimes solicit
the responsive, that's crazy,

no way, that can't be.

But we need to
leave that with God.

They thought no He
was a crazy fanatic,

because He predicted
rain, they never even seen rain

in the antediluvian world.

Lot, his family all thought
that was crazy to leave Sodom.

In fact, the
angel had to basically

drag him out of there.

Jesus was called the
devil because He was faithful

with the Word of God,

and the servant is no
greater than the master.

The next thing Jesus does
is found in verses 22 to 25,

Let's just look
there at 22 to 25.

And He assured,

'He that dippeth his

the same shall betray Me."

The Son of Man goes
as it is written of Him,

by whom the Son
of Man is betrayed!

It had been good for that
man that he had not been born."

Then Judas," verse
25, "which betrayed him,

Jesus was more specific
about who was betraying Him.

separation in the end of time.

it's going to happen.

God has prepared us for it.

Jesus took the bread and

Many times we focus on apostasy.

We need to know about it.

specifics of apostasy.

Obviously Jesus did too.

But we've got to get
our focus back on the bread

and on the wine.

We've got to get
our focus back on Jesus,

and His great sacrifice for us.

We've got to get our focus back
on fellowshipping with Christ,

on supping with Him,

on letting Him in on
that personal relationship.

That's what the
whole Book of Hebrews

has been delivering to us,
that personal relationship.

And this section
of Matthew Chapter 26

is all about
personal relationship.

Jesus Christ was able
to speak to the disciples,

He was able to speak about Judas

because He had a personal
close relationship with them,

and that's what we
want with Jesus also.

We want that close
personal relationship

that is depicted symbolically,

in our partaking of
the bread and of the wine.

But He also says,

"I'm not going to
drink this henceforth,

until I drink it new with
you in My Father's Kingdom."

Jesus exercise
faith in the future.

I'm going to
drink it again with you,

we need to have faith
that our future is settled,

it's sealed.

We have a hope.
We have a destiny.

This is not it.

If we lose our earthly life,

to the Mount of Olives."

You know, music is powerful,

and they're
going to be many people

who are going to be
in the Kingdom of God

because of music.

Because of the musical
talents that have been dedicated

to God service by
people like John, and Dino,

and Ryan.

the way over this morning,

They're going to hate it.

have nothing to do with it.

And it's going to lift

sermon for the camp meeting

I was going to that I
wasn't planning on sharing.

God redirects us sometimes.

And then getting a
first class ticket,

seat next to an atheist

who was seeking God,
getting to the airport so late

night, and when I got to my car,

on my way to camp meeting.

So I ended up
spending the night in town.

And then I drove the next
day down to the camp meeting.

And I remember coming
in there in the daytime,

and everyone looking at me,
looking at that Ford Mustang GT

and figuring out
that I was driving.

I thought, "Well,
I can live that down,

I'll just tell the story.

You know, that'll get
me out of the situation

where people are wondering

And sure enough,
in the camp meeting,

I open up the Word of
God to Hebrews Chapter 12,

and shared the story,
the testimony experience

that God has just given me.

God wants to give each one
of us an experience with Him.
00:50:32.59\00:50:37.90
An experience
not only in His Word,
00:50:37.93\00:50:39.93
but an experience from His
Word that impacts our lives.

There are a lot of verses
00:50:44.44\00:50:46.88
that we skip over in
the Book of Revelation,
00:50:46.91\00:50:49.71
that identify
God's remnant church,
00:50:49.74\00:50:52.71
and we need to stop doing that.
00:50:52.75\00:50:54.75
There's only two
that we normally focus on,
00:50:54.78\00:50:56.45
Revelation 12:17, right?
00:50:56.48\00:50:58.69
And Revelation 14:12.
00:50:58.72\00:51:01.29
But you know, there
are five other places

where God's
remnant church is described

in the Book of Revelation.

And one of them I
know we're familiar with,

one of them is Revelation 12:11.

You know what it says?

And they, God's people,
overcame him, the dragon,

by the word of their testimony,
and the blood of the Lamb,

and they love not
their lives unto the death.

Actually, it says it
in a different order.

It says, they overcame
him by the blood of the Lamb,

and by the word
of their testimony.

And I see that in Matthew
26, I see the blood of the Lamb,

the focus on Jesus.

I see the relationship that
Jesus had with His disciples,

the relationship that God wants
us to have with one another,
00:51:46.33\00:51:49.50
the relationship that God
wants us to have in the church,
00:51:49.54\00:51:53.64
and the testimony
that He wants us to bear,
00:51:53.68\00:51:55.74
not a testimony,
that's a one-time testimony
00:51:55.78\00:51:58.38
of how God worked in
our life so many years ago,
00:51:58.41\00:52:00.12
that's a
powerful, valid testimony.

All through His life,
from the beginning to the end,

Paul shared that testimony,

he never stopped
sharing his testimony.

You find it several
times in the New Testament,

in the New Testament experience
of the Acts of the Apostles,

you find Paul sharing
his testimony more than once,

and that's very important.

But Paul shares
other testimonies.

And when we're
in the Word of God,

and God speaks to us,
and we're honest with Him,

and we tell Him our frustrations

and our
impatience and the things

that we're struggling with,

we too will have fresh testimony

of how God is
working in our lives.

Hebrews is a relational book.

And we haven't
been able to cover

everything that's in there.

There's so much here that
God wants to share with us.

But there are
some basic principles

that are powerful
for us to understand.

First principle we've looked
at is that love is practical.

It's not just a
definition of who God is.

Love is practical, because it
communicates in practical ways.

God communicates His
love, Hebrews Chapter 1.

In giving the gift of Himself,
He communicates His love,

Hebrews Chapter 2, in
touching us physically

becoming one with the
human race for all eternity.

He communicates His
love, Hebrews Chapter 4,

in spending quality time with us

and calling us into
the Sabbath as a doorway

into that eternal rest
or that salvation rest.

Because it's by spending time
with Jesus and beholding Him

that we become

We learned also that God
communicates His love to us

through acts of service.

Right now, He's continually
mediating in our behalf,

continually hearing our prayers,

and covering our sins
with His righteousness

as we confess them to Him.

And we learned

that God is
communicating His love to us

through words of affirmation.

He affirms us
continually showing us

what it looks like to stand
before Him in the investigative

judgment without
the record of our sins,

to stand in the
righteousness of Jesus Christ,

to be vindicated
by His righteousness,

and to have all of
our failures blotted out,

cast into the depths of the sea.

So our record looks
like the record of Noah,

and Abraham, and Moses,
and Jacob, without a flaw,

without a failure.

And finally, God says,

as He concludes this

He says to us in

So what you need to do

when we deal with coldness,

going to happen in this nation,

in the world with the deceit,

that's going to come against

And there's only one way
we can get rid of that root
