he wanted to be like God,

us about that battle in heaven

cast down to this earth.

"War, it broke out in heaven.

Michael and his angels fought
with a dragon and the dragon

and his angels fought,
but they did not prevail.

Nor was place found for
them in heaven any longer."

So the great
dragon was cast out.

That serpent of old
called the Devil and Satan,

each person's heart,

When we look at
the Book of Revelation,

we see that this
battle eventually ends

and we know that
Christ Jesus will win.

First of all, Jesus
shows up in the sanctuary.

This is an illusion, of course,

sanctuary. Where is Jesus?

turning to the temple

beautiful our temple is,

them right there and says,

"Look, there's
coming a time soon

when there will not be

be a time of judgment,

about a time of trouble that

I believe this is a theme,

deceived, not a few, but many,

that represents the majority.

you will hear of wars

Verse 7, "For nation will
rise against nation and kingdom

You know, as
we're hearing this list

heard this many times,

the wars and rumors of wars,

earthquakes in various places,

you know,
famines, and pestilences,

and earthquakes and,
you know, all of this that

He's listing, you know,

these events have
happened for a long time.

We've been seeing these
since long before even Jesus

was ever born, this
type of things happen.

And so a lot of people

questioned the validity of this,

they say, "Well, you know,

it's not really
a sign of the time

because we've always
had this type of things,

there's always been famines,
00:19:22.89\00:19:24.23
there's always been pestilences,
00:19:24.26\00:19:25.59
there's always been earthquakes
00:19:25.63\00:19:26.96
and rumors of
wars and wars itself."

But yet, verse 8 is
the key to understanding
00:19:29.13\00:19:31.23
why Christ is listing this
00:19:31.27\00:19:33.60
because in verse 8, He says,
00:19:33.64\00:19:34.97
"All these are the
beginning of sorrows."

Yeah.

And you have to
dig a little deeper

to really understand
what He means by that,
00:19:40.41\00:19:41.74
what He's emphasizing.

In fact, the same
word used here for sorrows,

it's the Greek word
odin, which means birth pangs.

All of these are the beginning.

In fact, some modern
translations actually say

all of these are the
beginning of birth pangs.

And it's interesting because

Paul uses the same word
over in 1 Thessalonians 5,

when he says, "Of
the times and seasons,

brethren, I have no need
that I should write to you.

For you
yourselves know perfectly

that the day of the Lord

so comes as a
thief of the night.

For when they say,
'Peace and safety!'

Then sudden destruction
comes upon them as labor pains,"

That's what Paul

Jesus is saying all of

It's not that they're
new, it's not that, you know,

that this is somehow

some new event
that's going to happen.

But rather, all of these are
the beginning of birth pains,

much like a woman
who goes into labor.

You know, she gets
that first contraction,

the second, then the third,

as you begin to
watch this thing play out,

the closer you
get to the arrival

of that baby coming,

the interval of time
between those contractions,

they shorten and the
intensity of those contractions

get much more intense.

I'm not speaking about
this, because I have, you know,

I have interest in this

or in the sense that
I've experienced this,

but nonetheless,

it's interesting
to note that yes,

that we're going to
see more of these things

and they're going to be
more and more and more intense

as we get closer to
the second coming of Jesus.

is communicating
here in Matthew 24:4-8.

So what will happen
leading up to the second coming,

It says, "Then, if
anyone says to you, look,

here is the Christ or
there, do not believe it."

"For false christs and
false prophets will rise

and show great signs

if possible, even the elect."

Christ is saying,
I've told you about this.

I would look out
toward the Western horizon,

I've seen this many times,

there'd be a great storm coming,

a storm wall would
be fast approaching.

And for a moment,
you can stand there

before it gets
rough and you can watch it

just fast approach

lightning just coming down

the flashes of the
