Amen. 00:06:43.57\00:06:46.74 Amen. Amen. 00:06:46.77\00:06:48.64 That was beautiful, powerful. 00:06:48.67\00:06:50.61 I love that. 00:06:50.64\00:06:52.61 Well, good evening and welcome to Three Angels Broadcasting 00:06:52.64\00:06:58.05 Fall Camp Meeting. 00:06:58.08\00:06:59.98 What a blessing it is to be in the Word 00:07:00.02\00:07:04.29 of God in the spring and in the fall. 00:07:04.32\00:07:06.82 And we here at 3ABN are so thankful that you've joined us. 00:07:06.86\00:07:12.03 We were thinking about a theme for camp meeting, 00:07:12.06\00:07:15.96 and, you know, the last two years have been very difficult, 00:07:16.00\00:07:18.83 very difficult years, 00:07:18.87\00:07:20.60 you know, for our country, for our world. 00:07:20.64\00:07:23.30 And, you know, 3ABN here, 00:07:23.34\00:07:25.07 we all felt really impressed that something better 00:07:25.11\00:07:29.58 would be a great theme. 00:07:29.61\00:07:31.18 And that theme is found in the Book of Hebrews. 00:07:31.21\00:07:35.12 So that's going to be the focus 00:07:35.15\00:07:37.22 of our camp meeting because of all that we've been 00:07:37.25\00:07:40.86 going through in the last year or so. 00:07:40.89\00:07:43.22 You know, for the next few days, 00:07:43.26\00:07:44.79 we're just going to really hone in on something better, 00:07:44.83\00:07:47.86 something different than all of the... 00:07:47.90\00:07:52.50 I guess trials and difficulties 00:07:52.53\00:07:55.60 that we've been facing in our world today. 00:07:55.64\00:07:57.81 We need a fresh boost of hope, and faith and love. 00:07:57.84\00:08:03.35 And that's what we're going to find here 00:08:03.38\00:08:05.01 in the Book of Hebrews. 00:08:05.05\00:08:06.38 You know, we believe that God is leading His people to study 00:08:06.41\00:08:08.38 the Book of Hebrews in this present 00:08:08.42\00:08:10.65 time in history. 00:08:10.69\00:08:12.09 In fact, this book is going to be the focus 00:08:12.12\00:08:14.42 of our Sabbath School quarter, for the first quarter, 00:08:14.46\00:08:18.23 the first three months of 2022. 00:08:18.26\00:08:20.16 So it's kind of providential there, and just a little plug 00:08:20.20\00:08:23.73 here for Salvation in Symbols and Signs. 00:08:23.77\00:08:25.70 We also had decided a few months ago to let 00:08:25.73\00:08:29.30 this book be our next study on the Salvation in Symbols 00:08:29.34\00:08:32.81 and Signs series. 00:08:32.84\00:08:34.54 So we're really excited because this book 00:08:34.58\00:08:37.01 has for us something better. 00:08:37.05\00:08:38.61 The theme is all through the book, 00:08:38.65\00:08:40.22 and we're going to see that as we jump in 00:08:40.25\00:08:42.68 and study it this evening. 00:08:42.72\00:08:44.05 But before we do that, let's pray 00:08:44.09\00:08:45.42 and ask for a special anointing of the Holy Spirit. 00:08:45.45\00:08:49.09 Father in heaven, I just want to thank You again, 00:08:49.12\00:08:51.53 that You are the one 00:08:51.56\00:08:53.73 who has every human being in Your hands, 00:08:53.76\00:08:56.26 that You know the end from the beginning 00:08:56.30\00:08:57.93 and You long to deliver us from the struggles, 00:08:57.97\00:09:00.74 from the trials, 00:09:00.77\00:09:02.10 from the difficulties that we face. 00:09:02.14\00:09:03.47 Father, this world is turned upside down just in the last 00:09:03.51\00:09:07.48 couple of years, we see a completely different 00:09:07.51\00:09:09.41 picture than what we've experienced before this, 00:09:09.44\00:09:12.88 prior to this, and we need Your Holy Spirit, 00:09:12.91\00:09:16.18 we need the special blessing of the Holy Spirit, 00:09:16.22\00:09:19.99 not just to anoint us tonight and to speak to us tonight, 00:09:20.02\00:09:22.42 but to move through the hearts and the minds 00:09:22.46\00:09:26.43 of people in this nation and all over the world. 00:09:26.46\00:09:30.00 We're giving You that time right now, 00:09:30.03\00:09:32.20 that opportunity to speak to us through Your Word. 00:09:32.23\00:09:34.30 And we're especially focusing, 00:09:34.34\00:09:36.97 as our camp meeting theme on the Book of Hebrews 00:09:37.01\00:09:39.67 and the theme of something better, 00:09:39.71\00:09:42.18 something nobler, something stronger 00:09:42.21\00:09:45.01 than what this world has to offer. 00:09:45.05\00:09:46.38 So we're just giving you this time right now, 00:09:46.41\00:09:47.78 we ask that you would fill us, guide us that You would speak 00:09:47.82\00:09:51.49 through me tonight, that I would be laid aside 00:09:51.52\00:09:53.66 and Your Spirit would talk and communicate 00:09:53.69\00:09:56.59 of Your great love to us on this theme, 00:09:56.62\00:09:59.36 something better on this subject tonight 00:09:59.39\00:10:01.56 of Love Languages, do this we pray in Jesus' name. 00:10:01.60\00:10:05.07 Amen. 00:10:05.10\00:10:07.74 Well, the languages of love 00:10:07.77\00:10:09.94 is so powerful in relationship to how we communicate. 00:10:09.97\00:10:14.21 Now, I believe that this is a theme 00:10:14.24\00:10:17.48 through the Book of Hebrews that is based on the idea 00:10:17.51\00:10:21.15 of something better. 00:10:21.18\00:10:22.52 When we look at something better in the Book of Hebrews, 00:10:22.55\00:10:24.65 which by the way, the word means something that is nobler, 00:10:24.69\00:10:27.89 something that is stronger. 00:10:27.92\00:10:29.72 We find that the Book of Hebrews uses this word 00:10:29.76\00:10:31.79 better 13 times. 00:10:31.83\00:10:33.50 Now there are 13 chapters in the Book of Hebrews. 00:10:33.53\00:10:35.76 So I think that's really interesting that 13 00:10:35.80\00:10:37.93 times that word is used in the 13 chapters. 00:10:37.97\00:10:40.50 It's not used in every chapter, but it is used throughout 00:10:40.54\00:10:44.57 the Book of Hebrews. 00:10:44.61\00:10:45.94 Something better, better, better, better, 00:10:45.97\00:10:47.31 better, better, better. 00:10:47.34\00:10:48.68 In fact, in Hebrews 1:4, 00:10:48.71\00:10:50.41 we're told that our God is a better God. 00:10:50.45\00:10:53.25 In Hebrews 6:9, 00:10:53.28\00:10:55.48 we have better salvation. 00:10:55.52\00:10:57.99 In Hebrews 7:7, we have a better priesthood. 00:10:58.02\00:11:00.86 Verse 19 of Chapter 7, a better hope. 00:11:00.89\00:11:03.89 And verse 22 of Chapter 7, a better covenant. 00:11:03.93\00:11:07.06 In Hebrews 8:6, we have again, 00:11:07.10\00:11:08.80 the emphasis on a better covenant, 00:11:08.83\00:11:10.17 which is really significant, 00:11:10.20\00:11:11.97 and that they are based on better promises, 00:11:12.00\00:11:14.37 or that covenant is based on better promises. 00:11:14.40\00:11:16.74 And then in Hebrews 9:23, we have a better sacrifice. 00:11:16.77\00:11:20.21 In Hebrews 11, excuse me, 10:34, 00:11:20.24\00:11:23.18 we have a better substance. 00:11:23.21\00:11:25.38 In Hebrews 11:16, we have a better country. 00:11:25.41\00:11:28.12 In verse 35, we have a better resurrection. 00:11:28.15\00:11:30.72 And in verse 40, we have a better experience. 00:11:30.75\00:11:33.92 And then in Hebrews 12:24, we have better things, 00:11:33.96\00:11:38.36 just better things. 00:11:38.39\00:11:39.73 The Book of Hebrews is just about better things. 00:11:39.76\00:11:41.46 It's about something better. 00:11:41.50\00:11:43.67 A better God, better salvation, a better priesthood, 00:11:43.70\00:11:46.10 a better hope, better covenant, better promises, 00:11:46.13\00:11:48.77 better sacrifice, substance, country, resurrection, 00:11:48.80\00:11:51.37 experience, just better things. 00:11:51.41\00:11:53.98 Hallelujah and amen. 00:11:54.01\00:11:56.28 God wants to get us on to a completely 00:11:56.31\00:11:59.11 different way of navigating through this world. 00:11:59.15\00:12:03.28 He wants to get us focused on something better. 00:12:03.32\00:12:06.22 So let's apply this principle that we find in Hebrews, 00:12:06.25\00:12:10.53 this better theme of salvation and resurrection, 00:12:10.56\00:12:13.63 hope and experience in covenant. 00:12:13.66\00:12:15.76 Let's apply this to each one of the chapters. 00:12:15.80\00:12:18.23 I just like us to break down the chapters, 00:12:18.27\00:12:22.10 chapter by chapter, 00:12:22.14\00:12:23.47 and go through the 13 to connect this theme 00:12:23.51\00:12:26.91 with the focus of the chapter. 00:12:26.94\00:12:28.81 Chapter 1 of Hebrews is a focus on God. 00:12:28.84\00:12:32.08 God who takes the nature of humanity 00:12:32.11\00:12:35.48 upon Himself in order to legally 00:12:35.52\00:12:38.55 and righteously take personal responsibility for the sins 00:12:38.59\00:12:41.42 of humanity. 00:12:41.46\00:12:42.82 A God who does not sacrifice a third party, 00:12:42.86\00:12:47.06 but gives Himself for us. 00:12:47.10\00:12:49.76 Hebrews Chapter 1 describes a better God. 00:12:49.80\00:12:51.83 Hebrews Chapter 2 describes this God 00:12:51.87\00:12:55.10 manifest in the flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. 00:12:55.14\00:12:58.07 So we have Hebrews Chapter 1, describing a better God, 00:12:58.11\00:13:01.38 Hebrews Chapter 2, describing a better man, Jesus. 00:13:01.41\00:13:04.65 Hebrews Chapter 2, excuse me, Hebrews Chapter 3, 00:13:04.68\00:13:09.05 we find God here has built us a better home, 00:13:09.08\00:13:12.25 a better family, a better community. 00:13:12.29\00:13:14.62 The emphasis here is that it is community, 00:13:14.66\00:13:17.59 a house, a home that is free from condemnation and guilt. 00:13:17.63\00:13:20.70 So Hebrews Chapter 3 focuses on a better house, 00:13:20.73\00:13:23.33 a better God, a better man, a better house. 00:13:23.37\00:13:25.77 Hebrews 4, Hebrews 4, you know, 00:13:25.80\00:13:28.74 we are led to this home that's free of guilt. 00:13:28.77\00:13:32.01 And in being led there, we find ourselves 00:13:32.04\00:13:34.54 coming into or stepping into a better rest. 00:13:34.58\00:13:36.78 So Hebrews Chapter 3, excuse me, Chapter 4, 00:13:36.81\00:13:39.55 describes a better rest. 00:13:39.58\00:13:40.95 A salvation rest in Jesus Christ, if you will. 00:13:40.98\00:13:43.89 Hebrews Chapter 5, 00:13:43.92\00:13:46.69 we find here Hebrews Chapter 5 00:13:46.72\00:13:49.12 provides us with a better obedience. 00:13:49.16\00:13:51.16 Jesus Christ comes as a human 00:13:51.19\00:13:52.83 and He obeys God as no other human ever has. 00:13:52.86\00:13:56.30 So Christ becomes the author of our salvation, 00:13:56.33\00:14:00.04 a better obedience. 00:14:00.07\00:14:02.04 Hebrews Chapter 6, we find better promises, 00:14:02.07\00:14:04.87 promises that are made by God and fulfilled by God in us, 00:14:04.91\00:14:09.41 in spite of us. 00:14:09.44\00:14:10.78 Hebrews Chapter 7, 00:14:10.81\00:14:12.15 our attention there is directed to a better priest, 00:14:12.18\00:14:13.92 and that is the priesthood of Jesus Christ 00:14:13.95\00:14:16.45 who works incessantly on our behalf, 00:14:16.48\00:14:18.75 who is filled with the ability to completely save us from sin. 00:14:18.79\00:14:21.96 Hebrews Chapter 8, well, we naturally flow into, 00:14:21.99\00:14:25.73 from better promises to a better covenant. 00:14:25.76\00:14:27.50 Hebrews Chapter 8 is all about this better covenant 00:14:27.53\00:14:29.80 based on God's power 00:14:29.83\00:14:31.17 rather than man's faulty promises. 00:14:31.20\00:14:32.70 Hebrews Chapter 9 directs us to a better sanctuary, 00:14:32.73\00:14:35.97 a heavenly sanctuary, 00:14:36.00\00:14:37.34 where Christ stands in the presence of God for us. 00:14:37.37\00:14:40.34 Hebrews Chapter 10, better sacrifice, 00:14:40.38\00:14:42.91 not the sacrifices of animals, 00:14:42.94\00:14:44.38 not the sacrifices of bulls and goats, but the sacrifice 00:14:44.41\00:14:47.45 of God Himself in the person of Jesus Christ. 00:14:47.48\00:14:50.42 And that gives away in Hebrews Chapter 11, to a better faith. 00:14:50.45\00:14:53.52 That's what we call the faith chapter, 00:14:53.56\00:14:55.29 or the hall of faith chapter. 00:14:55.32\00:14:57.03 Hebrews Chapter 11 focuses on a people 00:14:57.06\00:15:00.40 whose failures and imperfections have been 00:15:00.43\00:15:02.96 completely blotted out by their faith in Jesus Christ. 00:15:03.00\00:15:06.63 And it reveals in there a better experience. 00:15:06.67\00:15:09.47 You know, when we are relieved of the guilt 00:15:09.50\00:15:12.01 and the shame of our sin, 00:15:12.04\00:15:13.78 we live in the light of God's love. 00:15:13.81\00:15:16.51 We live in obedience to God. 00:15:16.54\00:15:18.11 We have a completely different experience 00:15:18.15\00:15:19.95 when we're, when that guilt 00:15:19.98\00:15:21.32 and that weight of sin is lifted off us. 00:15:21.35\00:15:24.15 And then, of course, Hebrews Chapter 12 00:15:24.19\00:15:27.62 takes us to a faith picture that points us to Jesus 00:15:27.66\00:15:31.59 as the author and the finisher of our faith. 00:15:31.63\00:15:34.16 You know, sometimes we think, 00:15:34.20\00:15:35.53 "Well, Jesus does the beginning, 00:15:35.56\00:15:36.90 and we need to do the rest." 00:15:36.93\00:15:38.27 No, the Bible says, He's the author, 00:15:38.30\00:15:39.63 He's the finisher, and that's the better way. 00:15:39.67\00:15:41.40 That's the better way of Hebrews to let Jesus finish 00:15:41.44\00:15:44.77 what Jesus began. 00:15:44.81\00:15:46.71 And then finally, we close in Hebrews Chapter 13. 00:15:46.74\00:15:48.74 It's pretty powerful. It's pretty simple. 00:15:48.78\00:15:50.35 It's pretty basic. 00:15:50.38\00:15:51.71 But it's something that's kind of changed my devotional life. 00:15:51.75\00:15:54.48 Hebrews 13, specifically, verse 15, tells us that 00:15:54.52\00:15:58.72 out of all of these better things 00:15:58.75\00:16:00.52 that God has provided for us, 00:16:00.56\00:16:02.22 it's going to lead us to a better praise. 00:16:02.26\00:16:05.19 We're going to give praise and thanksgiving to God. 00:16:05.23\00:16:07.43 When I wake up in the morning, I go to the Word of God, 00:16:07.46\00:16:09.96 I read a Bible verse, and I just start praising 00:16:10.00\00:16:11.90 God for everything that's in that Bible verse. 00:16:11.93\00:16:13.97 I just start thanking Him for every little 00:16:14.00\00:16:16.44 bit that He has put in that Word, 00:16:16.47\00:16:18.71 in that verse for me. 00:16:18.74\00:16:20.38 And sometimes I praise Him for everyone. 00:16:20.41\00:16:22.08 I just include the whole world in the things that God 00:16:22.11\00:16:24.61 has done, because God so loved the world, 00:16:24.65\00:16:26.88 that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:16:26.92\00:16:28.55 Amen? 00:16:28.58\00:16:29.92 Now, COVID-19, you know, 00:16:29.95\00:16:32.15 has brought upon this world a huge increase, 00:16:32.19\00:16:36.32 you know, of sorrow, of loss, of conflict, I mean, depression 00:16:36.36\00:16:40.83 is soaring, suicide has shot up. 00:16:40.86\00:16:43.53 And so we need something better. 00:16:43.57\00:16:45.10 We need something better to focus on. 00:16:45.13\00:16:46.87 You know, than this present world 00:16:46.90\00:16:48.24 has to offer. 00:16:48.27\00:16:49.60 We need a huge dose of God's love 00:16:49.64\00:16:52.27 to get through all this. 00:16:52.31\00:16:53.64 And at the same time, we need to remember that, 00:16:53.68\00:16:55.78 that what's happening in this world 00:16:55.81\00:16:57.21 reminds us that this world is not our home. 00:16:57.25\00:16:59.45 It never has been. It never will be. 00:16:59.48\00:17:02.28 God has some better thing for us than all of this, 00:17:02.32\00:17:06.45 as we see it now. 00:17:06.49\00:17:07.89 He always has had something better. 00:17:07.92\00:17:09.92 When we look at the creation that God started within this, 00:17:09.96\00:17:14.23 in this world, we know that when He created this earth, 00:17:14.26\00:17:16.00 He created it without pain and sin and sorrow. 00:17:16.03\00:17:18.33 And we know that when God created this world, 00:17:18.37\00:17:20.10 in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, He said it was good, 00:17:20.14\00:17:23.51 even very good. 00:17:23.54\00:17:25.81 And then all of a sudden, we saw, well, 00:17:25.84\00:17:28.21 we saw a pause, we saw an interruption in God's plan. 00:17:28.24\00:17:31.95 And that's when sin came in. 00:17:31.98\00:17:33.35 Sin is what brought the pain 00:17:33.38\00:17:34.72 and the sorrow and the evil, not God. 00:17:34.75\00:17:36.55 And we know that God's working to restore us to the original 00:17:36.58\00:17:39.69 plan, so that by the time we get through 00:17:39.72\00:17:41.59 the Old Testament and the New Testament, 00:17:41.62\00:17:43.49 we get to the Book of Revelation, 00:17:43.53\00:17:44.86 Chapters 21 and 22. 00:17:44.89\00:17:46.23 Guess what happens? 00:17:46.26\00:17:47.60 There's no more death, there's no more pain, 00:17:47.63\00:17:50.03 there's no more sorrow. 00:17:50.07\00:17:51.63 And that picture is what keeps us. 00:17:51.67\00:17:54.50 That's what makes me a believer, 00:17:54.54\00:17:56.24 because between those bookends of Genesis 1 and 2, 00:17:56.27\00:18:00.28 and in Revelation Chapter 21 and 22, 00:18:00.31\00:18:02.58 there's a whole bunch of evil and a whole bunch of pain. 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.81 And sometimes you want to say is, 00:18:04.85\00:18:06.48 "God, why are You letting all this stuff happen?" 00:18:06.51\00:18:09.05 And what God is saying back to us is, 00:18:09.08\00:18:10.42 "It was never My will from the beginning, 00:18:10.45\00:18:12.35 and is not going to be My plan in the end." 00:18:12.39\00:18:14.66 So keep your focus on the author 00:18:14.69\00:18:16.42 and keep your focus on the finisher, 00:18:16.46\00:18:18.29 all of this stuff in between, 00:18:18.33\00:18:19.93 we're just going to have to navigate it, 00:18:19.96\00:18:21.30 but God's going to help us. 00:18:21.33\00:18:22.66 God is going to help us to navigate all of this, 00:18:22.70\00:18:25.03 because God loves us, 00:18:25.07\00:18:26.53 and He wants something better for us 00:18:26.57\00:18:28.87 yet it's not always easy for us to understand God's love. 00:18:28.90\00:18:32.34 In fact, we misunderstand God's love 00:18:32.37\00:18:35.74 more than we understand it. 00:18:35.78\00:18:37.25 And many of us don't actually think 00:18:37.28\00:18:38.88 God loves us at all. 00:18:38.91\00:18:40.42 You know, when my wife and I were married, 00:18:40.45\00:18:41.88 now we just celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary. 00:18:41.92\00:18:45.52 So 32 years ago, September 3, we were married. 00:18:45.55\00:18:50.26 And we experienced a lot of insecurity. 00:18:50.29\00:18:53.23 You know, both of us came from dysfunctional families. 00:18:53.26\00:18:55.16 Both of us came from dysfunctional backgrounds. 00:18:55.20\00:18:57.27 I was raised in a single parent home, 00:18:57.30\00:18:59.30 Rise was raised in a single parent home. 00:18:59.33\00:19:01.24 So it wasn't easy for us. 00:19:01.27\00:19:03.07 We did everything right as far as we knew. 00:19:03.10\00:19:06.37 We followed the biblical principles 00:19:06.41\00:19:08.41 and we figured that we were going, 00:19:08.44\00:19:09.88 we were stepping into something it was going to be far 00:19:09.91\00:19:11.88 better than what a lot of people did. 00:19:11.91\00:19:14.38 But it was within one year that we were in marriage 00:19:14.42\00:19:20.02 counseling, which was very hard for me because you know, 00:19:20.06\00:19:22.02 I'm a pastor, like, I'm a preacher, like, 00:19:22.06\00:19:23.93 a year into my marriage, I need marriage counseling? 00:19:23.96\00:19:25.76 No, I don't think so. 00:19:25.79\00:19:27.13 I'm not going there. 00:19:27.16\00:19:28.50 But I had to admit that I myself was exasperated 00:19:28.53\00:19:32.07 with our situation. 00:19:32.10\00:19:33.50 You see, when I married Rise and when Rise married me, 00:19:33.54\00:19:35.94 I determined that I was going to make 00:19:35.97\00:19:38.47 her know that she was loved. 00:19:38.51\00:19:40.81 I was going to provide her like a husband should, 00:19:40.84\00:19:42.61 I was going to work, I was going to bring, 00:19:42.64\00:19:44.61 you know, bring home the money, 00:19:44.65\00:19:46.78 take care of all the bills, take care of her, 00:19:46.82\00:19:48.65 give her security, and not only that, 00:19:48.68\00:19:50.62 but I was going to help her in the home. 00:19:50.65\00:19:51.99 I decided that I was going to help with the housework. 00:19:52.02\00:19:54.22 I said, "Listen, honey, I'm going to vacuum. 00:19:54.26\00:19:56.09 I'm going to clean the bathroom." 00:19:56.12\00:19:58.89 It was kind of easy back then 'cause 00:19:58.93\00:20:00.26 we lived in a daylight basement and it had a living room, 00:20:00.30\00:20:01.86 kitchen, bathroom, bedroom. 00:20:01.90\00:20:03.87 So I thought I'm going to vacuum, you know, 00:20:03.90\00:20:05.23 I'm going to clean the bathroom, 00:20:05.27\00:20:06.60 you know, we got a couple bathrooms now, 00:20:06.63\00:20:08.10 and there's three bedrooms, and well anyway, 00:20:08.14\00:20:10.61 I won't tell you the rest of that story, maybe Rise can. 00:20:10.64\00:20:12.47 So the deal was that I was going to be working 40 hours 00:20:12.51\00:20:16.95 a week plus, you know how it is pastors, 00:20:16.98\00:20:19.05 and that I was going to be helping in the home, 00:20:19.08\00:20:21.45 and I even volunteered to cook a meal once a week. 00:20:21.48\00:20:25.12 Not going to tell you how that turned out. 00:20:25.15\00:20:27.26 But in within one year, 00:20:27.29\00:20:31.19 my wife was insecure. 00:20:31.23\00:20:32.56 Now, for me, I was loving her to my utmost. 00:20:32.59\00:20:35.93 I was communicating love to her, 00:20:35.96\00:20:37.53 I was really letting her know that I loved her. 00:20:37.57\00:20:40.24 But she was insecure. 00:20:40.27\00:20:42.07 She didn't feel loved at all. 00:20:42.10\00:20:46.21 And one of the things that made a huge difference in our lives 00:20:46.24\00:20:50.38 was a little book called The Five Love Languages. 00:20:50.41\00:20:55.38 And we started counseling with a pastor, 00:20:55.42\00:20:57.69 and he shared with us this book and some of the principles, 00:20:57.72\00:21:01.02 and it literally changed the whole direction 00:21:01.06\00:21:03.76 of our marriage. 00:21:03.79\00:21:05.13 I cannot tell you how much that helped me. 00:21:05.16\00:21:07.36 And you know, here I am, pastor, 00:21:07.40\00:21:08.73 doesn't want to go to counseling, 00:21:08.76\00:21:10.10 because you know, I don't, yeah. 00:21:10.13\00:21:11.47 No, every single one of us needs the counsel of others, 00:21:11.50\00:21:14.74 we need the help of one another. 00:21:14.77\00:21:16.37 We need to encourage one another. 00:21:16.40\00:21:18.17 Hebrews says we shouldn't forsake the assembling 00:21:18.21\00:21:20.04 of ourselves together as is the manner of such as, 00:21:20.08\00:21:21.68 especially as we see the day approaching. 00:21:21.71\00:21:23.68 And that's not just talking about church fellowship, 00:21:23.71\00:21:25.85 that's talking about the fellowship 00:21:25.88\00:21:27.58 of fellow brothers and sisters that can help us 00:21:27.62\00:21:29.62 with their experience and their wisdom, etc. 00:21:29.65\00:21:31.49 And I feel like God has given Rise and I some wisdom, 00:21:31.52\00:21:33.86 and we'd like to share it with you tonight in the context 00:21:33.89\00:21:36.69 of the Book of Hebrews. 00:21:36.73\00:21:38.06 And here it is. 00:21:38.09\00:21:39.83 I was loving Rise with everything I had. 00:21:39.86\00:21:43.33 I was communicating love to her as loud as possible, 00:21:43.37\00:21:47.54 and she couldn't hear a single word. 00:21:47.57\00:21:50.24 You know why? 00:21:50.27\00:21:51.61 Because I was loving her with acts of service. 00:21:51.64\00:21:55.44 That's how I was loving her. That's a love language. 00:21:55.48\00:21:57.31 There are five love languages, gifts, physical touch, 00:21:57.35\00:22:01.12 quality time, acts of service, and words of affirmation. 00:22:01.15\00:22:05.42 These are the five love languages. 00:22:05.45\00:22:07.52 And by the way, 00:22:07.56\00:22:09.56 I decided because these were in a book written by a doctor 00:22:09.59\00:22:12.66 that I wanted to find them in the Bible. 00:22:12.69\00:22:14.66 And I turned to the Book of Hebrews, 00:22:14.70\00:22:16.03 because Hebrews is a relational book. 00:22:16.06\00:22:18.07 And as I went to the Book of Hebrews, 00:22:18.10\00:22:19.63 to discover these love languages 00:22:19.67\00:22:21.27 which are here and we're going to find out 00:22:21.30\00:22:22.67 about that as we move through it tonight, 00:22:22.70\00:22:24.24 I discovered two more. 00:22:24.27\00:22:25.94 You know, God works in sevens, not fives, right? 00:22:25.97\00:22:29.04 God works in sevens. 00:22:29.08\00:22:30.41 So there's two more love languages that are clearly 00:22:30.45\00:22:31.91 outlined in the Book of Hebrews. 00:22:31.95\00:22:33.55 And we're going to look at those two. 00:22:33.58\00:22:34.92 So let's just go back to the five for now. 00:22:34.95\00:22:37.12 I was loving her with everything that I had. 00:22:37.15\00:22:39.32 I was communicating to her that I loved her, 00:22:39.35\00:22:42.42 but I was using the language of acts of service. 00:22:42.46\00:22:44.96 Well guess what? 00:22:44.99\00:22:46.33 That wasn't Rise's love language. 00:22:46.36\00:22:48.63 Rise's love language was quality time. 00:22:48.66\00:22:52.43 Now most people have a one and a two 00:22:52.47\00:22:54.70 and then the next three, 00:22:54.74\00:22:56.30 and I'm going to say four and five, or maybe lower. 00:22:56.34\00:22:58.27 So we have certain love languages 00:22:58.31\00:23:00.04 that communicate to us more strongly than the others. 00:23:00.08\00:23:02.74 Rise and I had these love 00:23:02.78\00:23:05.01 languages that communicate to us more than others, 00:23:05.05\00:23:07.52 simply because of our background. 00:23:07.55\00:23:08.98 I was raised in a single parent home, 00:23:09.02\00:23:10.49 I was raised in London, England. 00:23:10.52\00:23:11.89 And when I was a boy, we didn't have any 00:23:11.92\00:23:13.42 of the modern conveniences, you know, we didn't have a car, 00:23:13.46\00:23:16.56 we didn't really need one. 00:23:16.59\00:23:17.93 Because in England, in London, you just take buses and trains, 00:23:17.96\00:23:19.69 but we didn't have a car, we didn't have a refrigerator, 00:23:19.73\00:23:23.80 we didn't have a vacuum cleaner, 00:23:23.83\00:23:25.57 we didn't have a telephone, 00:23:25.60\00:23:27.30 we didn't have a washer and dryer, 00:23:27.34\00:23:29.60 I would brush the carpets, 00:23:29.64\00:23:31.14 you know, with a hand brush, 00:23:31.17\00:23:32.74 and we would go to the store almost every day to get 00:23:32.77\00:23:35.41 food because it had to be fresh. 00:23:35.44\00:23:37.18 And we had milkman back there that would deliver milk, 00:23:37.21\00:23:39.25 you know, in the mornings, and you put it in water 00:23:39.28\00:23:41.52 and tried to keep it cold and we would use 00:23:41.55\00:23:44.19 the bathtub to wash clothes, 00:23:44.22\00:23:46.39 and then we hang them up on the line. 00:23:46.42\00:23:48.42 Sometimes we go down to the laundromat, 00:23:48.46\00:23:49.79 you know if we had time or whatever. 00:23:49.82\00:23:51.16 And what else? 00:23:51.19\00:23:52.53 You know, telephones, well, you know, 00:23:52.56\00:23:54.23 we could yell pretty loud, 00:23:54.26\00:23:55.93 most of the neighbors could hear us, 00:23:55.96\00:23:57.30 we had four flats in our home 00:23:57.33\00:23:59.27 and there were 13 kids in all in the entire place. 00:23:59.30\00:24:01.90 So we didn't need to, you know, get on Twitter 00:24:01.94\00:24:04.14 or text message or anything. 00:24:04.17\00:24:05.64 We just, "Hey, time to go out and play now." 00:24:05.67\00:24:07.64 Away we go. 00:24:07.68\00:24:09.08 Even though I didn't have all those modern conveniences, 00:24:09.11\00:24:11.41 I had a pretty happy childhood in England. 00:24:11.45\00:24:14.62 Things didn't change much in that way 00:24:14.65\00:24:17.85 until I moved to America. 00:24:17.89\00:24:19.22 And that's a whole different story. 00:24:19.25\00:24:20.59 But the thing is I want to communicate to you 00:24:20.62\00:24:22.22 was my mom worked. 00:24:22.26\00:24:23.73 She was a teacher and she worked pretty hard 00:24:23.76\00:24:25.96 and she needed help in the house. 00:24:25.99\00:24:27.33 You can imagine all the things that need to be done. 00:24:27.36\00:24:28.70 We don't have a refrigerator, don't have the washer, 00:24:28.73\00:24:30.07 you don't have a phone, you know, 00:24:30.10\00:24:31.43 so I did a lot of the stuff, that acts of service, 00:24:31.47\00:24:34.34 I did a lot of that growing up. 00:24:34.37\00:24:36.20 I just had to as a young man, seven, eight, nine, 00:24:36.24\00:24:39.11 10 years old, I was, you know, doing a lot of those things. 00:24:39.14\00:24:41.81 And so that was an area where I grew, 00:24:41.84\00:24:44.38 I was strong in that area 00:24:44.41\00:24:46.85 and that to me was my natural go to. 00:24:46.88\00:24:49.88 My mom really appreciated that I helped her, you know. 00:24:49.92\00:24:52.02 She really felt that, you know, 00:24:52.05\00:24:53.39 here's a kid that loves his mom. 00:24:53.42\00:24:54.76 You know, he's helping her loves. 00:24:54.79\00:24:56.96 Yeah, so that was a strong love language for me. 00:24:56.99\00:25:00.40 Before I even knew what love languages were, 00:25:00.43\00:25:01.96 I'm saying, "I'm going to make sure my wife is loved the way 00:25:02.00\00:25:04.53 my mom was loved." 00:25:04.57\00:25:05.90 If you know what I'm saying, that was my natural go too. 00:25:05.93\00:25:08.10 Rise was raised in a home with a single parent mom, 00:25:08.14\00:25:10.74 and you know, her mom loved her and etc. 00:25:10.77\00:25:12.47 But her dad was gone. 00:25:12.51\00:25:13.84 Her dad wasn't around. 00:25:13.88\00:25:15.21 You know, I had issues that were more like, 00:25:15.24\00:25:20.42 you know, neglect. 00:25:20.45\00:25:21.78 My mom just wasn't there to take care of the things, 00:25:21.82\00:25:23.52 whatever, Rise had all those things, 00:25:23.55\00:25:24.89 but she felt more issues of abandonment, 00:25:24.92\00:25:26.99 like her dad wasn't there for her. 00:25:27.02\00:25:29.62 And so her love language, 00:25:29.66\00:25:31.79 I don't know if you could figure it out, 00:25:31.83\00:25:33.16 but her love language was quality time. 00:25:33.19\00:25:36.90 She wanted me to spend time with her 00:25:36.93\00:25:38.57 and we were talking about this with the pastor, 00:25:38.60\00:25:40.04 I'm thinking, "Oh, my, this is amazing." 00:25:40.07\00:25:42.30 You know, I am so busy working 40 hours a week 00:25:42.34\00:25:45.34 and doing the extra stuff that pastors have to do. 00:25:45.37\00:25:47.38 And I'm so busy, you know, cleaning the house 00:25:47.41\00:25:49.38 and cleaning the bathroom and doing the things that, 00:25:49.41\00:25:51.41 you know, I know my wife is going to make her feel 00:25:51.45\00:25:53.75 secure and make her know that she loves me 00:25:53.78\00:25:56.05 that I don't have time to sit down and just talk 00:25:56.08\00:25:58.59 I don't, I don't have time to just quality time. 00:25:58.62\00:26:00.76 That seems like a waste of time. 00:26:00.79\00:26:02.12 What do you mean? 00:26:02.16\00:26:03.49 Just sit around and just connect? 00:26:03.53\00:26:04.86 That's what you're saying I need to do. 00:26:04.89\00:26:06.90 It was such an eye-opener for me. 00:26:06.93\00:26:09.30 It just and it was phenomenal how it changed our lives, 00:26:09.33\00:26:12.63 our marriage. 00:26:12.67\00:26:14.00 So I started focusing on that quality time. 00:26:14.04\00:26:16.50 Because what I found out was, 00:26:16.54\00:26:17.94 because I was communicating in my love language, 00:26:17.97\00:26:20.38 I was really manifesting love for me. 00:26:20.41\00:26:23.98 I wasn't manifesting love for my wife. 00:26:24.01\00:26:25.48 And I was exasperated, so I thought 00:26:25.51\00:26:26.88 how can my wife be insecure, 00:26:26.92\00:26:28.25 and I'm doing all these things for her. 00:26:28.28\00:26:29.62 But I wasn't speaking her love language. 00:26:29.65\00:26:31.49 I'm going to give you a challenge tonight, okay? 00:26:31.52\00:26:34.36 Find out what the love language is of your spouse, 00:26:34.39\00:26:37.13 of your husband, of your kids, family members, 00:26:37.16\00:26:40.10 people in your community, see if you can find out 00:26:40.13\00:26:42.43 what their love language is and learn 00:26:42.46\00:26:44.13 how to speak to people in their love language. 00:26:44.17\00:26:48.37 Because, sometimes when we communicate with people, 00:26:48.40\00:26:51.17 we communicate in such a way that it doesn't really 00:26:51.21\00:26:54.51 help them or encourage them, because it's not, 00:26:54.54\00:26:57.45 they're not hearing us. 00:26:57.48\00:26:58.81 It's like we're speaking French, 00:26:58.85\00:27:00.72 and they're understanding only English. 00:27:00.75\00:27:02.98 And we want to get on the wavelength of others 00:27:03.02\00:27:05.55 when we communicate to them this language of love. 00:27:05.59\00:27:10.03 So, again, I was really eager to understand, 00:27:10.06\00:27:13.96 it was such a game changer for us. 00:27:14.00\00:27:15.86 And by the way, Rise and I share the same second 00:27:15.90\00:27:18.80 love language, which is physical touch. 00:27:18.83\00:27:20.64 So it was really nice. 00:27:20.67\00:27:22.00 It's nice when a husband and wife share at least 00:27:22.04\00:27:23.77 one love language. 00:27:23.81\00:27:25.14 I've met couples that don't share any. 00:27:25.17\00:27:26.51 I've met other couples, 00:27:26.54\00:27:27.88 'cause we do a lot of marriage counseling, 00:27:27.91\00:27:29.24 they'll share one but not the other. 00:27:29.28\00:27:30.61 And I see really, it's nice when you have 00:27:30.65\00:27:32.55 one that's compatible, even though the other 00:27:32.58\00:27:34.65 one might be different. 00:27:34.68\00:27:36.02 And it's hard for me because I'm a acts, 00:27:36.05\00:27:38.02 I'm a doer guy, and so to slow down 00:27:38.05\00:27:40.22 and just sit with my wife at 32 years now, 00:27:40.26\00:27:42.56 I've really gotten into it. 00:27:42.59\00:27:43.93 So sometimes I'll say to her, "Hey honey, 00:27:43.96\00:27:45.29 you want to spend some time together? 00:27:45.33\00:27:46.66 Hey, honey, you know, you're busy, 00:27:46.70\00:27:48.03 you want to do some things together? 00:27:48.06\00:27:49.40 You want to, you know, have some pillow talk or whatever? 00:27:49.43\00:27:50.77 And she'll, "Thinks have kind 00:27:50.80\00:27:52.13 of switched here, haven't they? 00:27:52.17\00:27:53.50 ""Yes." 00:27:53.54\00:27:54.87 So, the reason we have maybe stronger love languages than, 00:27:54.90\00:28:00.18 you know other do, maybe because of our past. 00:28:00.21\00:28:02.74 So we need to consider our past. 00:28:02.78\00:28:04.15 Why is it that we feel insecure in certain areas? 00:28:04.18\00:28:06.68 Why do we need maybe, you know, some father called us 00:28:06.72\00:28:10.49 a dummy all our lives. 00:28:10.52\00:28:11.85 You dummy, dummy, dummy, 00:28:11.89\00:28:13.22 you'll never get anywhere, you'll never have anything, 00:28:13.25\00:28:14.59 you'll never going to be any good. 00:28:14.62\00:28:15.96 Well, that person would be, 00:28:15.99\00:28:17.56 one of their love languages might be words of affirmation, 00:28:17.59\00:28:20.23 because they've always been criticized and put down. 00:28:20.26\00:28:22.43 They need to be spoken into. They need to be affirmed. 00:28:22.46\00:28:25.13 And by the way, that's my weakest love language. 00:28:25.17\00:28:26.77 Can I confess that publicly? 00:28:26.80\00:28:28.40 My weakest love language is words of affirmation, 00:28:28.44\00:28:30.24 I'm kind of a perfectionist, I'll come home 00:28:30.27\00:28:31.74 and the whole house is clean. 00:28:31.77\00:28:33.24 But there's one thing not done. 00:28:33.27\00:28:34.61 I'm like, "How come that didn't get done?" 00:28:34.64\00:28:37.68 You know, words of affirmation. 00:28:37.71\00:28:39.25 So we're going to have strong love languages, 00:28:39.28\00:28:41.05 we're going to have weaker love languages, 00:28:41.08\00:28:43.18 love languages that we need to focus on or we 00:28:43.22\00:28:45.79 need to build up, strengthen. 00:28:45.82\00:28:48.82 Well, guess what? 00:28:48.86\00:28:50.19 There are no dysfunctional languages with God. 00:28:50.23\00:28:55.66 God has no dysfunctional history. 00:28:55.70\00:28:58.03 So He speaks to us in all of the love languages. 00:28:58.07\00:29:01.57 And that's what we're going to see in the Book of Hebrews. 00:29:01.60\00:29:03.00 The Book of Hebrews is not just a theological book, in fact, 00:29:03.04\00:29:05.84 it's less of a theological book than it is a book 00:29:05.87\00:29:09.31 about relationship. 00:29:09.34\00:29:12.05 I believe Paul is the author 00:29:12.08\00:29:13.42 of this and got some controversy. 00:29:13.45\00:29:14.78 That's not major. 00:29:14.82\00:29:16.15 You know, some theologians believe he is, 00:29:16.18\00:29:17.52 some believe he isn't. 00:29:17.55\00:29:18.89 There's a lot of parallels with Hebrews 00:29:18.92\00:29:20.26 and other epistles that Paul wrote that tell us 00:29:20.29\00:29:22.26 that he's the author. 00:29:22.29\00:29:23.63 So I believe he's the author. 00:29:23.66\00:29:25.53 And he is, I think, 00:29:25.56\00:29:27.30 communicating to the Hebrews, to Israel, 00:29:27.33\00:29:29.63 to people who have really been almost 00:29:29.66\00:29:32.23 dogmatically legalistic about their relationship with God. 00:29:32.27\00:29:34.94 You know, got to do this, you got to do that, 00:29:34.97\00:29:36.30 you got to do this, you got to do that, 00:29:36.34\00:29:37.67 you got to make sure all your T's are crossed 00:29:37.71\00:29:39.04 and all your I's are dotted. 00:29:39.07\00:29:40.41 And Paul is moving away from that, 00:29:40.44\00:29:42.64 and he's transitioning them into a relationship 00:29:42.68\00:29:45.58 experience with God. 00:29:45.61\00:29:46.95 That's his primary goal in the Book of Hebrews. 00:29:46.98\00:29:49.42 And I believe that we need that today more than ever. 00:29:49.45\00:29:51.52 You know, legalism isn't just in religious circles. 00:29:51.55\00:29:54.59 Legalism is in, you can be an agnostic, 00:29:54.62\00:29:56.39 you can be a legalist, you can be an atheist, 00:29:56.42\00:29:57.76 you can be a legalist. 00:29:57.79\00:29:59.13 It's when you're really draconian really spiky, 00:29:59.16\00:30:03.26 really focused on rules and regulations 00:30:03.30\00:30:05.57 and you can't give any wiggle room, 00:30:05.60\00:30:07.17 no mercy to other people around you. 00:30:07.20\00:30:09.50 And I see that happening more and more in our society. 00:30:09.54\00:30:11.41 If you don't match up, if you don't, 00:30:11.44\00:30:13.58 you know, if your words aren't in harmony with, 00:30:13.61\00:30:16.08 if your actions aren't in harmony with, 00:30:16.11\00:30:17.51 if you're not supporting what everyone else is doing, 00:30:17.55\00:30:20.22 then we're going to cancel you. 00:30:20.25\00:30:21.78 And the Book of Hebrews is moving us away from that. 00:30:21.82\00:30:23.99 It's moving us into this relationship with God 00:30:24.02\00:30:26.55 where we don't see Him just 00:30:26.59\00:30:27.92 relating to us in this draconian way, 00:30:27.96\00:30:30.23 this legalistic way where we see Him 00:30:30.26\00:30:32.83 entering into relationship with us 00:30:32.86\00:30:34.50 and having an experience with us and walking with us. 00:30:34.53\00:30:37.10 And we see this right from the get go in Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:30:37.13\00:30:40.64 Let's just read these first verses 00:30:40.67\00:30:42.10 here in Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:30:42.14\00:30:43.87 We'll read Hebrews Chapter 1, beginning with verse 1. 00:30:43.91\00:30:47.31 It says, "God, who at sundry times 00:30:47.34\00:30:50.45 and in divers manners..." 00:30:50.48\00:30:51.98 I'm speaking, communicating from the KJV here, 00:30:52.01\00:30:53.92 I love the KJV, sundry times and divers manners, 00:30:53.95\00:30:56.75 what does that mean? 00:30:56.79\00:30:58.12 I don't know. But it's really beautiful. 00:30:58.15\00:30:59.49 It's really poetic. 00:30:59.52\00:31:00.86 It actually means, you know, different 00:31:00.89\00:31:02.22 times in various manners. 00:31:02.26\00:31:03.83 "Spoke in time past, 00:31:03.86\00:31:06.49 unto the fathers, by the prophets. 00:31:06.53\00:31:10.00 And has in these last days, verse 2, 00:31:10.03\00:31:12.07 spoken unto us by His Son, 00:31:12.10\00:31:14.44 whom He has appointed heir of all things, 00:31:14.47\00:31:17.27 by whom also He made the worlds." 00:31:17.31\00:31:20.11 Now verse 3, 00:31:20.14\00:31:22.14 "Who being the brightness of His glory 00:31:22.18\00:31:23.81 and the express image of His person, 00:31:23.85\00:31:25.41 and upholding all things by the word of His power, 00:31:25.45\00:31:28.52 when He had by Himself purged our sins, 00:31:28.55\00:31:31.59 sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." 00:31:31.62\00:31:35.52 This is relational language through and through. 00:31:35.56\00:31:40.70 Do you see it in here? 00:31:40.73\00:31:42.36 God spake, God communicated. 00:31:42.40\00:31:44.70 When Adam and Eve sinned, they were hiding, 00:31:44.73\00:31:46.67 they had broken relationship with God, 00:31:46.70\00:31:48.37 they were feeling guilty, they were feeling ashamed, 00:31:48.40\00:31:50.14 they went away from God, they were hiding, 00:31:50.17\00:31:51.94 they didn't want to talk to God, 00:31:51.97\00:31:53.31 they didn't want to come in contact with Him, 00:31:53.34\00:31:54.68 and God comes looking for them, "Adam, Eve, where are you?" 00:31:54.71\00:31:57.18 See, that's communication that invokes relation, right? 00:31:57.21\00:32:01.18 "Where are you? Where are you? 00:32:01.22\00:32:02.55 I want to talk to you, I want to see you, 00:32:02.58\00:32:03.92 I want to connect with you?" Right? 00:32:03.95\00:32:05.39 That's what God has been doing from the beginning. 00:32:05.42\00:32:08.26 And all the way now to the very end of time 00:32:08.29\00:32:10.26 He's been reaching out to us. 00:32:10.29\00:32:11.63 That's what Hebrews 1 says. 00:32:11.66\00:32:12.99 He's been speaking to us through the prophets. 00:32:13.03\00:32:14.86 And then eventually, He sent His own Son. 00:32:14.90\00:32:17.93 He Himself came in the person of Jesus Christ, 00:32:17.97\00:32:19.77 to communicate to us because communication is love. 00:32:19.80\00:32:25.27 You know, when my wife and I have, 00:32:25.31\00:32:27.44 you know, a disagreement, we don't fight, 00:32:27.48\00:32:29.18 we just have intense moments of fellowship, right? 00:32:29.21\00:32:32.65 When we have this disagreement, we have a king sized bed, 00:32:32.68\00:32:35.35 and we can go to sleep because I don't want to talk. 00:32:35.38\00:32:37.49 I'm just, the guys want to stuff it right? 00:32:37.52\00:32:39.22 Well, this is back now. This isn't after 32. 00:32:39.25\00:32:41.12 This is 20 years back, in 20 years of marriage, 00:32:41.16\00:32:45.19 not 32 years, 32 years now, I'm willing to talk. 00:32:45.23\00:32:48.16 But back in the day, 00:32:48.20\00:32:49.86 we had enough room between us at night for both 00:32:49.90\00:32:51.77 of our kids to move into the bed with us. 00:32:51.80\00:32:53.57 You know, I'm on one side, she's on the other side, 00:32:53.60\00:32:55.30 and no one's talking. 00:32:55.34\00:32:56.67 I'm laying there in quiet. 00:32:56.71\00:32:58.04 She's laying there in quiet. 00:32:58.07\00:32:59.41 I can't sleep, she can't sleep, and eventually say something 00:32:59.44\00:33:01.24 like she'll say, "James, are you awake?" 00:33:01.28\00:33:05.55 And I won't say anything, you know, because I'm asleep. 00:33:05.58\00:33:08.62 And she'll say, few minutes later, 00:33:08.65\00:33:11.89 "James, I know you're awake." 00:33:11.92\00:33:14.09 I'll say, "No, I'm not, I'm sleeping." 00:33:14.12\00:33:16.69 And we'll begin to communicate. 00:33:16.73\00:33:18.53 You see, that is what love does. 00:33:18.56\00:33:22.46 That's what relationship does. It communicates. 00:33:22.50\00:33:24.63 And so right from the get go in Hebrews 1:1-3, 00:33:24.67\00:33:28.50 God is communicating to us, 00:33:28.54\00:33:30.14 and that communication that He has with us 00:33:30.17\00:33:32.04 is an indication of His love. 00:33:32.07\00:33:34.44 Love speaks in different ways, in a variety 00:33:34.48\00:33:37.55 of ways at different times, 00:33:37.58\00:33:39.51 and it does it according to the need. 00:33:39.55\00:33:41.95 That's why it's different. 00:33:41.98\00:33:43.32 That's why it's in a variety of ways, 00:33:43.35\00:33:44.69 and it comes in different forms and shapes because God 00:33:44.72\00:33:46.55 speaks to us according to the need. 00:33:46.59\00:33:48.52 In Revelation 14:6, the everlasting gospel, 00:33:48.56\00:33:52.13 which is very, basically a distillation 00:33:52.16\00:33:55.26 of the languages of love. 00:33:55.30\00:33:56.93 God is communicating to every nation, kindred, 00:33:56.97\00:33:59.97 tongue, and people. 00:34:00.00\00:34:01.34 What does that mean? He's an inclusive God. 00:34:01.37\00:34:02.80 He's not leaving anyone out. 00:34:02.84\00:34:04.27 See, that's the kind of God we serve. 00:34:04.31\00:34:06.17 He's communicating to every nation, 00:34:06.21\00:34:07.58 kindred, tongue and people. 00:34:07.61\00:34:09.34 The everlasting gospel of His love. 00:34:09.38\00:34:10.95 In Revelation 18, 00:34:10.98\00:34:12.31 love communicates a call to come out of Babylon, 00:34:12.35\00:34:17.09 come out of confusion, 00:34:17.12\00:34:18.45 come out of this dependence on the world, 00:34:18.49\00:34:20.46 and its economy, that system because it's coming down 00:34:20.49\00:34:23.79 and depend on God in Revelation 18, Revelation 14. 00:34:23.83\00:34:28.53 Then in Matthew Chapter 24, 00:34:28.56\00:34:29.96 we have another communication from God 00:34:30.00\00:34:32.13 of the everlasting gospel, 00:34:32.17\00:34:33.50 the gospel that's going to go to all the world 00:34:33.54\00:34:35.74 and we're told there that love endures, 00:34:35.77\00:34:37.94 it perseveres, it keeps communicating, through war, 00:34:37.97\00:34:41.38 through pestilence, through famine, through earthquakes, 00:34:41.41\00:34:43.61 through natural disasters, through all of the afflictions 00:34:43.65\00:34:46.21 taking place on planet earth. 00:34:46.25\00:34:47.58 Love does not stop communicating. 00:34:47.62\00:34:49.45 It keeps on communicating, endures to the worst of times. 00:34:49.48\00:34:52.89 And by the way, all of those aspects 00:34:52.92\00:34:56.26 of God's love in Revelation 14, in Matthew 24, 00:34:56.29\00:34:59.69 in Revelation 18, that is the love that God 00:34:59.73\00:35:02.26 wants to put into us. 00:35:02.30\00:35:03.63 He wants to infuse us with that same love that He has. 00:35:03.67\00:35:06.07 He's the one doing this, but He wants us to be part 00:35:06.10\00:35:09.90 of doing this. 00:35:09.94\00:35:11.27 And that's what 3ABN is all about. 00:35:11.31\00:35:12.64 That's what Three Angels Broadcasting is all about. 00:35:12.67\00:35:14.51 That's what we're all about here at 3ABN 00:35:14.54\00:35:16.01 because we want to team up with God, 00:35:16.04\00:35:18.58 to communicate love to the world. 00:35:18.61\00:35:21.98 So love is a verb. 00:35:22.02\00:35:24.45 Love is action. 00:35:24.49\00:35:26.15 Love is not just an emotional feeling that's here today 00:35:26.19\00:35:30.29 and gone tomorrow. 00:35:30.33\00:35:32.39 As we read Matthew Chapter 24, we see that love endures. 00:35:32.43\00:35:36.13 That's what it says in verse 13. 00:35:36.16\00:35:38.27 It says He that endures to the end, 00:35:38.30\00:35:39.77 but He has to do with love, 00:35:39.80\00:35:42.14 a love that's waxing cold in others 00:35:42.17\00:35:43.84 that continues to endure in God's people. 00:35:43.87\00:35:46.37 And this is I think why love has languages, love speaks, 00:35:46.41\00:35:49.84 love communicates in practical ways. 00:35:49.88\00:35:54.48 So that's why it was so important for me 00:35:54.52\00:35:56.69 to understand why my wife was insecure, 00:35:56.72\00:35:59.69 because I wasn't speaking love to her. 00:35:59.72\00:36:02.22 I was speaking in French, and she's Hispanic, 00:36:02.26\00:36:05.79 she's Puerto Rican, Mexican. 00:36:05.83\00:36:07.60 Well, she doesn't speak Spanish, 00:36:07.63\00:36:09.33 but that's beside the point. 00:36:09.36\00:36:10.70 You get the illustration. 00:36:10.73\00:36:12.07 She was not hearing my love 00:36:12.10\00:36:14.07 coming to her because everything I was saying, 00:36:14.10\00:36:16.17 I was saying to myself, because I was 00:36:16.20\00:36:17.54 speaking in my love language. 00:36:17.57\00:36:18.91 So it was like I was talking to myself 00:36:18.94\00:36:20.28 and not talking to my wife. 00:36:20.31\00:36:22.44 So are we speaking the biblical language 00:36:22.48\00:36:27.65 of love when we tell people that God 00:36:27.68\00:36:30.49 is going to burn them in hell forever, for all eternity? 00:36:30.52\00:36:35.06 Are we speaking the biblical language of love 00:36:35.09\00:36:37.39 when we tell people that God has favorites, 00:36:37.43\00:36:39.66 who is predestined to be saved and others 00:36:39.69\00:36:42.43 who He's chosen to be lost? 00:36:42.46\00:36:44.40 Are we speaking the biblical language of love 00:36:44.43\00:36:47.37 when we communicate that God has tossed out 00:36:47.40\00:36:49.60 His law at Calvary? 00:36:49.64\00:36:51.44 So it doesn't matter how you live, 00:36:51.47\00:36:52.91 you can continue to lie 00:36:52.94\00:36:54.28 and cheat and steal, commit adultery. 00:36:54.31\00:36:56.34 It doesn't matter how you treat people 00:36:56.38\00:36:57.85 because you're saved by grace. 00:36:57.88\00:36:59.71 I don't think so. 00:36:59.75\00:37:01.08 You know, too often, the language we speak 00:37:01.12\00:37:02.45 about God as Christians, 00:37:02.48\00:37:04.79 doesn't really communicate love. 00:37:04.82\00:37:06.69 It doesn't communicate God's love. 00:37:06.72\00:37:08.59 Too often, religious people claim to follow a God of love, 00:37:08.62\00:37:12.23 but communicate a loveless, lawless exclusive God. 00:37:12.26\00:37:16.97 That's why we here at 3ABN, what you will understand 00:37:17.00\00:37:20.30 what the Bible says about hell and salvation 00:37:20.34\00:37:23.37 and God's Ten Commandment law. 00:37:23.41\00:37:24.74 And that's why we have these books Focus on Truth. 00:37:24.77\00:37:27.18 And you know, Greg and Jill shared this with you earlier, 00:37:27.21\00:37:30.38 so I don't have to say a lot about them. 00:37:30.41\00:37:31.75 But I, you know, God is love. 00:37:31.78\00:37:34.18 And so a God of love does not torture people in a burning 00:37:34.22\00:37:37.79 hell for all eternity. 00:37:37.82\00:37:39.25 Love does not exclude people from the opportunity 00:37:39.29\00:37:42.22 of salvation. 00:37:42.26\00:37:43.66 Love does not toss out the moral standard 00:37:43.69\00:37:47.40 of His Ten Commandments that impact how we treat people 00:37:47.43\00:37:50.83 and how we relate to our Creator. 00:37:50.87\00:37:53.00 So I want to encourage you again, 00:37:53.03\00:37:54.70 get these books because they really, 00:37:54.74\00:37:56.77 it's not just about doctrine, it's not just about 00:37:56.81\00:37:58.61 what the Bible teaches about hell, 00:37:58.64\00:37:59.97 what the Bible teaches about the commandments, 00:38:00.01\00:38:01.74 what the Bible teaches about salvation, this is about God. 00:38:01.78\00:38:05.11 It's about His character. 00:38:05.15\00:38:06.48 It's about what kind of God He is, and if indeed, 00:38:06.51\00:38:09.05 He is a God of love. 00:38:09.08\00:38:12.15 All right, Hebrews Chapter 1, 00:38:12.19\00:38:13.52 here's where we're going to look. 00:38:13.56\00:38:14.89 Now remember, I told you, I wanted to see if these love 00:38:14.92\00:38:16.83 languages were biblical, I wanted them from the Bible. 00:38:16.86\00:38:19.56 I didn't want them just to be in some 00:38:19.59\00:38:21.23 book that someone wrote, even if they were a Christian, 00:38:21.26\00:38:23.57 I want to be biblically based. 00:38:23.60\00:38:25.50 And so I was looking for the languages of love. 00:38:25.53\00:38:27.70 And I found the first one in Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:38:27.74\00:38:31.14 Hebrews Chapter 1 is all about God giving Himself 00:38:31.17\00:38:34.64 as a gift of salvation. 00:38:34.68\00:38:36.75 God takes care of the salvation we need Himself. 00:38:36.78\00:38:40.42 He's the one that gives us this gift, 00:38:40.45\00:38:42.18 you know, and sometimes when we think about Jesus 00:38:42.22\00:38:44.92 dying for us on Calvary, we think about Jesus 00:38:44.95\00:38:47.82 as a third party because of the use of the word Son. 00:38:47.86\00:38:50.73 You know, God so loved the world that He gave 00:38:50.76\00:38:52.13 His only begotten Son. 00:38:52.16\00:38:53.66 But that word son communicates relational closeness, 00:38:53.70\00:38:57.77 not physical origin. 00:38:57.80\00:38:59.67 The Father did not birth Jesus. 00:38:59.70\00:39:02.14 The use of this title, the Son of God indicates 00:39:02.17\00:39:04.74 a close personal connection, 00:39:04.77\00:39:07.28 such as experience between a healthy relationship 00:39:07.31\00:39:10.35 of a father and a son. 00:39:10.38\00:39:11.78 And that's what God is trying to tell us, 00:39:11.81\00:39:13.75 that God the Father, God the Son, 00:39:13.78\00:39:15.92 God the Holy Spirit, they are one. 00:39:15.95\00:39:18.59 They are one in character. 00:39:18.62\00:39:21.92 They are one in principle, they are one in purpose. 00:39:21.96\00:39:25.69 Their wills are one but they're three separate individuals, 00:39:25.73\00:39:28.73 but they're one and this is not anything like paganism, 00:39:28.76\00:39:32.63 or some kind of, you know, polytheism. 00:39:32.67\00:39:36.40 This is the oneness that the Bible teaches. 00:39:36.44\00:39:39.21 Of course, we did a whole 00:39:39.24\00:39:40.78 meeting on that at our last camp meeting. 00:39:40.81\00:39:43.08 If you'd like to look at that you can. 00:39:43.11\00:39:44.85 But Hebrews Chapter 1 emphasizes this again, 00:39:44.88\00:39:48.45 and again and again. 00:39:48.48\00:39:49.82 I mean, Jesus is God. 00:39:49.85\00:39:51.19 That's the whole point of Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:39:51.22\00:39:52.65 Jesus is God, Jesus is God. 00:39:52.69\00:39:54.32 Just in case you're thinking that this is some kind 00:39:54.36\00:39:56.93 of pagan deity that takes His Son 00:39:56.96\00:39:59.63 and makes Him pay a penalty for, 00:39:59.66\00:40:01.46 you know, for us, 00:40:01.50\00:40:02.96 this is a third party interaction, it's not. 00:40:03.00\00:40:05.33 It's God in us. 00:40:05.37\00:40:06.97 And God looks at us and He says, 00:40:07.00\00:40:08.34 "Okay, you've sinned. 00:40:08.37\00:40:09.70 Wages of sin is death, so you deserve to die. 00:40:09.74\00:40:12.31 And the only way that you can get out 00:40:12.34\00:40:15.04 of that is if I take the consequence of your sin, 00:40:15.08\00:40:18.15 if I actually experienced that, and so I'm going to do that. 00:40:18.18\00:40:20.98 I've got a plan, I'm going to do that. 00:40:21.02\00:40:23.02 And so God takes upon us. 00:40:23.05\00:40:24.39 He doesn't give to somebody else. 00:40:24.42\00:40:25.75 He takes it upon Himself, Jesus is God. 00:40:25.79\00:40:27.12 This is Paul's argument right here. 00:40:27.16\00:40:28.56 And he says it in almost every single verse of Hebrews 1. 00:40:28.59\00:40:31.66 I'm just going to highlight, let's just look verses 8 00:40:31.69\00:40:35.36 through 10 in Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:40:35.40\00:40:37.50 Just to highlight this point, it's found all over the Bible, 00:40:37.53\00:40:40.27 Philippians 2 are some of my favorite verses, 00:40:40.30\00:40:42.24 verses 5 through 8. 00:40:42.27\00:40:43.61 But let's just look here in Hebrews 1:8-10. 00:40:43.64\00:40:46.37 Here's what Paul says, "But unto the Son, 00:40:46.41\00:40:49.38 talking about Jesus, He the father says, 00:40:49.41\00:40:51.61 'Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever. 00:40:51.65\00:40:56.08 A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom." 00:40:56.12\00:40:58.92 Verse 9, "Thou, the Father talking about the Son, 00:40:58.95\00:41:02.16 has loved righteousness and hated iniquity, 00:41:02.19\00:41:04.56 therefore, God, even thy God, the Father, 00:41:04.59\00:41:08.10 had anointed thee with all of gladness above thy fellows. 00:41:08.13\00:41:12.17 And thou Lord, speaking of the son, 00:41:12.20\00:41:14.74 thou Lord, in the beginning has laid the foundations 00:41:14.77\00:41:18.57 of the earth and the heavens are the works of thy hands." 00:41:18.61\00:41:22.34 Over and over again, Hebrews Chapter 1 00:41:22.38\00:41:24.98 tells us that Jesus is better than the angels 00:41:25.01\00:41:28.88 that He is to be worshipped by the angels. 00:41:28.92\00:41:31.22 No one gets worshiped by the angels. 00:41:31.25\00:41:32.62 You know, Lucifer, wanting to be worshiped by the angels. 00:41:32.65\00:41:34.59 No one gets worshiped by the angels, unless it's God. 00:41:34.62\00:41:38.53 And so this focus is powerful, because this is the language 00:41:38.56\00:41:43.87 of gifts. 00:41:43.90\00:41:45.30 God has given a gift to us, He loves us. 00:41:45.33\00:41:48.30 And many times people are mostly 00:41:48.34\00:41:52.87 mainly impacted in the communication 00:41:52.91\00:41:56.38 of love through gifts. 00:41:56.41\00:41:57.75 They love to receive gifts, some people, 00:41:57.78\00:41:59.11 that's their number one language. 00:41:59.15\00:42:00.48 Like, if my daughter, that's big, a big thing for her, 00:42:00.52\00:42:03.62 if you know, words of affirmation and gifts. 00:42:03.65\00:42:05.89 And so God is communicating to us here 00:42:05.92\00:42:09.96 through the love language of gifts. 00:42:09.99\00:42:11.59 He's given us a gift, what kind of gift is it? 00:42:11.63\00:42:14.40 It's the greatest gift that was ever given. 00:42:14.43\00:42:17.00 It's the gift of Himself. 00:42:17.03\00:42:18.63 He's given, He's poured out all of heaven in this gift. 00:42:18.67\00:42:21.34 Why? Because He loves us. 00:42:21.37\00:42:23.17 That's why. 00:42:23.20\00:42:24.54 He absolutely and completely loves us. 00:42:24.57\00:42:26.71 So God is in the person of Jesus Christ, 00:42:26.74\00:42:28.68 He gives Himself for us and Jesus is God, 00:42:28.71\00:42:31.31 He's one with a Father, so this is the gift of love. 00:42:31.35\00:42:33.98 God gives Himself to us in Jesus Christ is the greatest 00:42:34.02\00:42:36.85 of all gifts. 00:42:36.89\00:42:38.45 And God's love is revealed in this gift, 00:42:38.49\00:42:41.02 just like it's going to reveal in every one 00:42:41.06\00:42:42.99 of the other languages of love, 00:42:43.02\00:42:44.69 just like it's going to reveal in every one of the other 00:42:44.73\00:42:46.96 gifts that God is communicating. 00:42:47.00\00:42:48.66 By the way, I just want to remind you, 00:42:48.70\00:42:51.50 it's going to be a fun experience for you to try 00:42:51.53\00:42:54.37 to figure out the love languages 00:42:54.40\00:42:56.24 of people that you're close to. 00:42:56.27\00:42:57.61 If you haven't figured it out already, 00:42:57.64\00:42:58.97 it's a great exercise because it really makes 00:42:59.01\00:43:01.01 a huge difference in relationships. 00:43:01.04\00:43:04.25 All right, what about the next chapter of Hebrews? 00:43:04.28\00:43:07.68 Hebrews Chapter 2? 00:43:07.72\00:43:09.05 Now Hebrews Chapter 2 is really powerful because it connects 00:43:09.08\00:43:12.19 with Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:43:12.22\00:43:13.66 It tells us how salvation was worked out 00:43:13.69\00:43:17.53 with the Father and the Son. 00:43:17.56\00:43:19.16 It tells us what had to happen in order for God to justly 00:43:19.19\00:43:24.77 and righteously receive the consequences 00:43:24.80\00:43:29.54 of our sins because you know, we sin, not God. 00:43:29.57\00:43:32.71 So how can He take our sins? 00:43:32.74\00:43:34.91 That doesn't seem right or fair. 00:43:34.94\00:43:36.88 And so Hebrews Chapter 2 00:43:36.91\00:43:39.51 describes basically goes back to Genesis, 00:43:39.55\00:43:42.08 if you want to look here with me in Hebrews Chapter 2, 00:43:42.12\00:43:43.75 beginning with verse 9, let's just look there. 00:43:43.79\00:43:45.75 Hebrews Chapter 2, and beginning with verse 9, 00:43:45.79\00:43:48.19 or if you excuse me, verse 3, we'll read through verse 9. 00:43:48.22\00:43:50.16 Hebrews 2:6-9, goes back to the creation, 00:43:50.19\00:43:53.83 but one in a certain place testifies saying, 00:43:53.86\00:43:55.93 what is man that thou art mindful of him? 00:43:55.96\00:43:58.27 Or the son of man that thou visits him? 00:43:58.30\00:44:01.30 Thou madest Him a little lower than the angels, 00:44:01.34\00:44:04.11 this is creation, thou crownedst Him with glory 00:44:04.14\00:44:08.11 and honor, You set Him over the works of your hands." 00:44:08.14\00:44:11.18 "You put," verse 8, 00:44:11.21\00:44:12.55 "all things in subjection unto Him," that means, 00:44:12.58\00:44:14.88 the whole world was given to us, 00:44:14.92\00:44:16.25 all things in subjection unto Him, 00:44:16.28\00:44:17.75 "for in that He put all in subjection unto Him, 00:44:17.79\00:44:20.66 He left nothing that is not put unto Him." 00:44:20.69\00:44:25.13 But, before we get to the but, 00:44:25.16\00:44:28.16 let's just think about this, God created us 00:44:28.20\00:44:30.50 and gave us dominion over all the earth and He said, 00:44:30.53\00:44:32.57 "This is good, this is very good, be fruitful, 00:44:32.60\00:44:34.60 and multiply and fill the earth. 00:44:34.64\00:44:36.07 Just have a great time. 00:44:36.10\00:44:38.01 And I'll connect with you every evening 00:44:38.04\00:44:39.77 and we'll spend a special day together on Sabbath," right? 00:44:39.81\00:44:42.88 But, this is verse 9 again or verse 8, 00:44:42.91\00:44:46.75 "Now we see not yet all things unto Him." 00:44:46.78\00:44:50.12 What happened? 00:44:50.15\00:44:51.49 Genesis Chapter 3, the fall. 00:44:51.52\00:44:53.36 Satan came in, to kill, to steal and to destroy. 00:44:53.39\00:44:57.49 That's what we're told in John 10:10. 00:44:57.53\00:45:00.33 So Satan came in, he deceived Eve at the tree, 00:45:00.36\00:45:04.13 and through Eve, he won Adam's disobedience, 00:45:04.17\00:45:09.30 both of them now, have in essence handed all 00:45:09.34\00:45:12.77 of the dominion over the earth to Satan. 00:45:12.81\00:45:14.18 That's why Jesus Christ called him the prince 00:45:14.21\00:45:15.64 of this world. But remember, God, the Creator 00:45:15.68\00:45:19.78 is still the ultimate owner of planet earth 00:45:19.81\00:45:22.18 and of each one of us. 00:45:22.22\00:45:23.65 And He has redeemed us. He's put a plan in place. 00:45:23.69\00:45:26.62 So we don't, but we don't see all things 00:45:26.65\00:45:28.39 under Him that notice the next but in verse 9, 00:45:28.42\00:45:30.69 "But we see Jesus..." 00:45:30.73\00:45:32.73 Praise God. Amen. 00:45:32.76\00:45:34.63 "But we see Jesus who was made 00:45:34.66\00:45:36.00 a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, 00:45:36.03\00:45:39.17 crowned with glory and honor, that He by the grace of God 00:45:39.20\00:45:42.60 should taste death for every man." 00:45:42.64\00:45:45.51 That's just a mini three verses 00:45:45.54\00:45:47.71 whole plan of salvation right there. 00:45:47.74\00:45:49.94 You know, we were given dominion, 00:45:49.98\00:45:51.91 we were created to have this earth as ours, 00:45:51.95\00:45:54.32 it was good, it was a blessing, 00:45:54.35\00:45:55.88 it was very good, Satan came in, deceived us, 00:45:55.92\00:45:59.19 led us to disobedience, 00:45:59.22\00:46:00.96 he became the prince of this world, 00:46:00.99\00:46:02.32 but Jesus came in, Jesus came in, 00:46:02.36\00:46:04.83 and He redeemed us. 00:46:04.86\00:46:06.19 He tasted death for every man. 00:46:06.23\00:46:08.10 So the consequence of sin is death. 00:46:08.13\00:46:09.70 And that eternal separation from God is what we deserved. 00:46:09.73\00:46:15.00 That consequence carried out is a manifestation of justice. 00:46:15.04\00:46:19.87 Now, when we're talking about God's love, 00:46:19.91\00:46:21.38 we have to recognize that justice 00:46:21.41\00:46:23.35 is not contrary to love. 00:46:23.38\00:46:24.71 Justice is part of love. God is merciful. 00:46:24.75\00:46:27.32 He's gracious, and He's just, He's righteous, He's fair. 00:46:27.35\00:46:31.25 And those two components make up the foundation 00:46:31.29\00:46:33.96 of God's character. 00:46:33.99\00:46:35.32 They are equally a demonstration revelation 00:46:35.36\00:46:38.36 of God's love. 00:46:38.39\00:46:40.06 So another word for justice, we could say is righteousness, 00:46:40.10\00:46:42.86 doing what's right, doing what's just, doing what's fair. 00:46:42.90\00:46:45.57 You know, my kids were younger. 00:46:45.60\00:46:47.34 My daughter always, "That's not fair. 00:46:47.37\00:46:48.84 That's not fair." 00:46:48.87\00:46:50.21 How come he gets, my son was five years old, 00:46:50.24\00:46:51.81 "How come he gets to do that?" 00:46:51.84\00:46:53.17 Well, he's five years older. That's why he can drive a car. 00:46:53.21\00:46:54.98 You're, you know, you're 11, he's 16, right? 00:46:55.01\00:46:58.01 That's not fair. 00:46:58.05\00:46:59.41 But God always does what's fair. 00:46:59.45\00:47:01.28 Now, as parents, we don't always navigate 00:47:01.32\00:47:02.88 as well as we should, but God always navigates 00:47:02.92\00:47:05.55 and does what's right, what's just, and what is fair. 00:47:05.59\00:47:09.26 So what's right, what's just 00:47:09.29\00:47:11.99 and what is fair means that Adam and Eve 00:47:12.03\00:47:15.13 should have died in the Garden of Eden. 00:47:15.16\00:47:17.50 That would have been the end of that. 00:47:17.53\00:47:19.97 And it would have been just and right and fair, 00:47:20.00\00:47:21.57 no one could have faulted God for doing that, 00:47:21.60\00:47:23.61 for allowing that to happen. 00:47:23.64\00:47:24.97 However, the Bible tells us that God had a plan B. 00:47:25.01\00:47:27.28 Amen. 00:47:27.31\00:47:28.64 God had a plan B for the human race. 00:47:28.68\00:47:31.25 He had a backup plan, Revelation 13:8, 00:47:31.28\00:47:33.52 this is Shelley Quinn's favorite verse, 00:47:33.55\00:47:34.95 I can't help but mention that one 00:47:34.98\00:47:36.58 of her favorite verses, it says, that Jesus Christ 00:47:36.62\00:47:38.79 is the Lamb slain from the foundation 00:47:38.82\00:47:41.19 of the world right there in Revelation's final crisis. 00:47:41.22\00:47:44.33 You know, the mark of the beast, 00:47:44.36\00:47:45.69 can't buy or sell, you're going to die, 00:47:45.73\00:47:47.26 we have the cross, we have Calvary 00:47:47.30\00:47:48.76 right there to help us, to guide us 00:47:48.80\00:47:50.93 so that we don't follow the world. 00:47:50.97\00:47:52.97 And this points us to God's plan B, 00:47:53.00\00:47:54.77 you know, Jesus Christ is the Lamb 00:47:54.80\00:47:56.17 slain from earth's foundation. 00:47:56.20\00:47:58.34 So, you know, we've just shown that Jesus Christ is God, 00:47:58.37\00:48:02.28 that mankind sinned, that mankind only should 00:48:02.31\00:48:06.05 receive the consequences for that sin, 00:48:06.08\00:48:07.78 because that's what's right, that's what's just, right? 00:48:07.82\00:48:11.12 So in order for Jesus, to justly and righteously 00:48:11.15\00:48:14.72 take our consequences, He must become mankind. 00:48:14.76\00:48:20.30 Not just temporarily, but permanently, 00:48:20.33\00:48:25.20 not just for 33 years, but for all eternity. 00:48:25.23\00:48:28.60 Jesus must become a human. 00:48:28.64\00:48:30.31 He must become the human race, to receive the consequences 00:48:30.34\00:48:34.31 that belong to the human race. 00:48:34.34\00:48:36.08 And that's exactly what He did. 00:48:36.11\00:48:38.15 Jesus Christ became a human being. 00:48:38.18\00:48:40.88 And as a human being, Jesus Christ became for us sin. 00:48:40.92\00:48:45.29 2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that Jesus became sin. 00:48:45.32\00:48:48.56 The human race had sinned, Adam and Eve had sinned, 00:48:48.59\00:48:51.29 but Jesus took sin's consequence, 00:48:51.33\00:48:53.73 legally, ethically by becoming the new Adam, 00:48:53.76\00:48:57.93 the new head of the human race, 00:48:57.97\00:49:00.10 the second Adam, the second Adam. 00:49:00.14\00:49:02.54 Now you can read about this in 2, 00:49:02.57\00:49:04.54 or 1 Corinthians 15:45-47. 00:49:04.57\00:49:08.24 He is the second Adam, the Bible tells us. 00:49:08.28\00:49:11.05 So in these verses, in 1 Corinthians 15:45-47, 00:49:11.08\00:49:14.58 we're running out of time, so I'm just going to give you 00:49:14.62\00:49:16.35 the references, otherwise, I'd read them. 00:49:16.38\00:49:18.35 These verses identify Jesus as the second Adam, 00:49:18.39\00:49:21.59 and show us that He started the whole human race again, 00:49:21.62\00:49:25.79 all over again in Himself. 00:49:25.83\00:49:27.73 As humans, we're born with a choice between 00:49:27.76\00:49:31.23 the destiny of the first Adam 00:49:31.27\00:49:32.83 and the legacy of the first Adam, 00:49:32.87\00:49:34.70 and the destiny of the second Adam 00:49:34.74\00:49:36.24 and the legacy of the second Adam. 00:49:36.27\00:49:37.77 And when we become Christians, when we accept Jesus Christ, 00:49:37.81\00:49:40.41 we say, I'm not going to receive 00:49:40.44\00:49:42.08 the legacy and the destiny 00:49:42.11\00:49:43.45 of this first Adam that I'm born into, 00:49:43.48\00:49:44.81 I'm going to receive, I wanna choose the legacy 00:49:44.85\00:49:47.02 and the destiny of the second Adam. 00:49:47.05\00:49:48.82 And the second Adam has paid the consequences for our sin. 00:49:48.85\00:49:52.62 The first Adam hasn't. 00:49:52.65\00:49:54.06 The consequence is still coming. 00:49:54.09\00:49:55.42 If you stay in the first Adam, you're going to receive 00:49:55.46\00:49:57.16 the consequences for your sins, 00:49:57.19\00:49:58.73 and that's going to be eternal death. 00:49:58.76\00:50:00.40 But if you step into the second Adam consequences 00:50:00.43\00:50:02.86 is taken care of. 00:50:02.90\00:50:04.23 And that's what the plan of salvation is really all about. 00:50:04.27\00:50:07.20 It's about stepping in to Jesus Christ. 00:50:07.24\00:50:09.97 It's about stepping into the person 00:50:10.01\00:50:11.34 who's received our consequences. 00:50:11.37\00:50:13.24 In Christ, justice was satisfied, 00:50:13.27\00:50:15.44 in Christ, believing in Christ, 00:50:15.48\00:50:17.98 we are safe from the death that sin brings. 00:50:18.01\00:50:20.42 And that's why the Bible says, "If we confess our sins, 00:50:20.45\00:50:24.62 He is faithful and merciful to forgive our sins." 00:50:24.65\00:50:29.62 Are you listening out there this evening? 00:50:29.66\00:50:31.59 What does it say? 00:50:31.63\00:50:33.06 He's faithful and just. 00:50:33.09\00:50:34.53 It's only just, it's only fair, 00:50:34.56\00:50:36.16 it's only righteous for God to forgive our sins 00:50:36.20\00:50:38.90 if we step into Jesus, because Jesus already paid 00:50:38.93\00:50:41.44 the consequences for our sins. 00:50:41.47\00:50:43.24 It wouldn't be fair, it wouldn't be righteous, 00:50:43.27\00:50:44.61 it wouldn't be just for us to receive those consequences 00:50:44.64\00:50:46.68 when we step into Jesus. 00:50:46.71\00:50:48.04 That's double jeopardy. It doesn't work that way. 00:50:48.08\00:50:50.78 We only receive the consequences 00:50:50.81\00:50:52.31 if we're outside of Jesus. 00:50:52.35\00:50:54.05 But we step into Jesus, He's faithful, and He's just. 00:50:54.08\00:50:58.32 Look at these verses, though, and see here 00:50:58.35\00:51:00.16 what it took for Jesus to step into the human race. 00:51:00.19\00:51:03.59 This is back in Hebrews 2:14-17. 00:51:03.63\00:51:07.20 I'm watching the clock there, so I'm making sure 00:51:07.23\00:51:08.70 we have time. 00:51:08.73\00:51:10.07 It says here, "For as much as the children are partakers 00:51:10.10\00:51:13.17 of flesh and blood," He's talking about us, right? 00:51:13.20\00:51:16.00 "He, Jesus also Himself likewise 00:51:16.04\00:51:19.34 took part of the same." 00:51:19.37\00:51:21.78 Any doubt about that? He was going to annihilate. 00:51:21.81\00:51:24.41 Jesus Christ became one with human race. 00:51:24.45\00:51:27.15 He took part of the same flesh and blood. 00:51:27.18\00:51:29.75 Then it goes on to say that, "Through death, 00:51:29.78\00:51:33.15 He might destroy him that had the power of death," 00:51:33.19\00:51:35.79 that is the devil, 00:51:35.82\00:51:37.16 "and deliver them," that salvation right here 00:51:37.19\00:51:39.19 we're talking about, "who through fear of death 00:51:39.23\00:51:41.20 were all their lifetime subject to bondage." 00:51:41.23\00:51:43.33 Isn't that a powerful Bible verse that God 00:51:43.37\00:51:46.23 has given us here? 00:51:46.27\00:51:48.14 "For verily He took on not on Him the nature of angels, 00:51:48.17\00:51:51.34 but He took them on Him the seed of Abraham. 00:51:51.37\00:51:53.68 Wherefore in all things," 00:51:53.71\00:51:55.04 verse 17, "it behooves Him to be made like 00:51:55.08\00:51:59.48 unto his brethren, that He might be a merciful 00:51:59.51\00:52:02.38 and faithful high priest, in things 00:52:02.42\00:52:04.79 pertaining to God to make 00:52:04.82\00:52:06.15 reconciliation for the sins of the people." 00:52:06.19\00:52:09.22 I love this. Jesus is the second Adam. 00:52:09.26\00:52:11.53 Yes, but He didn't start with 00:52:11.56\00:52:13.06 a second Adam started in a perfect, sinless garden. 00:52:13.09\00:52:16.56 That was gone when Jesus came to this earth. 00:52:16.60\00:52:18.70 He came to our fallen sin parched world 4,000 years 00:52:18.73\00:52:22.34 after sin, right? 00:52:22.37\00:52:23.91 So Jesus became part of the fallen human race. 00:52:23.94\00:52:26.57 He took our weaknesses. 00:52:26.61\00:52:28.41 He came in the likeness of sinful flesh. 00:52:28.44\00:52:31.88 That's what it says in Romans 8:3. 00:52:31.91\00:52:34.62 Matthew Chapter 26, says that Jesus had to surrender 00:52:34.65\00:52:38.09 His human will to God, 00:52:38.12\00:52:39.65 and it took Him three times to do it. 00:52:39.69\00:52:41.89 Have you ever struggled with straining your will to God? 00:52:41.92\00:52:43.69 Well, Jesus wrestled with it in the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:52:43.73\00:52:47.66 He had to say it once, not my will, but Thine be done. 00:52:47.70\00:52:50.27 God, I really don't want to do this, 00:52:50.30\00:52:51.77 but not My will but Thine be done. 00:52:51.80\00:52:53.13 God, I really don't want to do this, but not My will, 00:52:53.17\00:52:55.07 but Thine be done. 00:52:55.10\00:52:56.47 I don't want to move there, 00:52:56.50\00:52:57.84 I don't want to go to as a missionary there, 00:52:57.87\00:52:59.27 I don't want to go witness to that person, 00:52:59.31\00:53:00.91 I don't want to, you know, do that Bible study, 00:53:00.94\00:53:03.21 whatever it is in our lives that God 00:53:03.24\00:53:05.48 is calling us to do for His glory, 00:53:05.51\00:53:07.88 our natural human will sometimes shrink from them. 00:53:07.92\00:53:10.99 Jesus fought that battle. 00:53:11.02\00:53:12.35 He became one with us on the level of the will, 00:53:12.39\00:53:15.82 and He always, always surrendered that will to God. 00:53:15.86\00:53:19.69 Jesus never failed like Adam 00:53:19.73\00:53:21.20 and Eve failed in the Garden of Eden 00:53:21.23\00:53:23.30 with the surrender of the will. 00:53:23.33\00:53:24.80 He was holy, He was harmless. He was separate from sinners. 00:53:24.83\00:53:28.50 He was that holy thing. 00:53:28.54\00:53:30.64 Amen? 00:53:30.67\00:53:32.01 I mean, from His very inception to His death, 00:53:32.04\00:53:34.21 He consecrated Himself to God, 00:53:34.24\00:53:37.05 not My will but Thine be done was the battle cry of Jesus. 00:53:37.08\00:53:41.05 He never failed to do God's will, 00:53:41.08\00:53:42.42 and that's why we have salvation. 00:53:42.45\00:53:43.95 Our salvation is not only in the death of Jesus, 00:53:43.99\00:53:46.22 our salvation is in the life of Jesus, 00:53:46.25\00:53:48.72 because His life tells us that we too can surrender 00:53:48.76\00:53:51.09 our wills to God. 00:53:51.13\00:53:52.46 His life tells us that we too can live a victorious life. 00:53:52.49\00:53:55.33 And when we fail, and if we fail, if we sin, 00:53:55.36\00:53:57.83 we have an advocate with the Father, 00:53:57.87\00:53:59.60 Jesus Christ, the righteous. 00:53:59.63\00:54:00.97 He is a propitiation for our sins, 00:54:01.00\00:54:02.34 1 John 2:1 says. 00:54:02.37\00:54:04.37 So we have a perfect righteousness that backs us up. 00:54:04.41\00:54:09.54 But again, we don't want to just toss 00:54:09.58\00:54:10.91 the law of God and say, "Well, doesn't matter. 00:54:10.95\00:54:12.28 We're saved by grace." 00:54:12.31\00:54:13.65 No, we want to live for a God who loves us, like He loves us. 00:54:13.68\00:54:16.38 We want to live for God, who's given everything for us. 00:54:16.42\00:54:20.79 So this is how He became our Savior. 00:54:20.82\00:54:22.26 He worked out a perfect character, 00:54:22.29\00:54:23.99 and as a human being He, 00:54:24.03\00:54:25.46 as a new head of the human race, 00:54:25.49\00:54:28.26 He started humanity all over again 00:54:28.30\00:54:30.40 where Adam and Eve failed. 00:54:30.43\00:54:31.97 And this is how the God had loves us in the area 00:54:32.00\00:54:34.20 of physical touch. 00:54:34.24\00:54:35.97 You see, Jesus has become part of our human race permanently. 00:54:36.00\00:54:40.08 He's connected with us physically, for all eternity. 00:54:40.11\00:54:43.48 After His resurrection, 00:54:43.51\00:54:44.85 remember Jesus comes to the disciples 00:54:44.88\00:54:46.21 after His resurrection in a human body. 00:54:46.25\00:54:47.78 Thomas is really upset because Jesus has revealed 00:54:47.82\00:54:50.55 Himself to the other disciples, but not to Thomas. 00:54:50.59\00:54:53.09 Thomas is like, "Why couldn't you wait till I was with Him?" 00:54:53.12\00:54:55.42 Well, maybe Jesus just couldn't wait to show 00:54:55.46\00:54:57.69 Himself to the disciples. 00:54:57.73\00:54:59.06 Maybe Thomas, you should have been with them, 00:54:59.09\00:55:00.43 you know, you shouldn't miss prayer meeting, right? 00:55:00.46\00:55:02.13 You should have been in church that Sabbath. 00:55:02.16\00:55:03.53 You should have been there with the guys, but you weren't. 00:55:03.57\00:55:05.90 But He'll get to you, He's not going to leave 00:55:05.93\00:55:07.67 anyone out that wants to see Him that wants to know Him. 00:55:07.70\00:55:09.44 And when He comes to Thomas, 00:55:09.47\00:55:10.81 He says, "Touch me, 00:55:10.84\00:55:12.17 put your hand into My side and feel My wounds. 00:55:12.21\00:55:13.54 Put your hands and your fingers into My hands 00:55:13.58\00:55:16.08 and feel those wounds and believe." 00:55:16.11\00:55:18.91 He is in flesh and blood. 00:55:18.95\00:55:21.25 We know that because decades later, 00:55:21.28\00:55:24.55 He appears to John on the Isle of Patmos, 00:55:24.59\00:55:27.82 in human form, as the Son of God. 00:55:27.86\00:55:31.56 So the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is an eternal sacrifice, 00:55:31.59\00:55:35.86 an omnipresent God 00:55:35.90\00:55:37.37 becoming present in humanity for all eternity. 00:55:37.40\00:55:41.34 We can't even understand that sacrifice. 00:55:41.37\00:55:44.71 Can you imagine if you were omnipresent, 00:55:44.74\00:55:48.01 and someone said, hey, you know, 00:55:48.04\00:55:49.38 would you be willing to kind of give that up, 00:55:49.41\00:55:50.75 you know, Joe's in some trouble, 00:55:50.78\00:55:52.25 and in order for you to help him, 00:55:52.28\00:55:54.52 you know, if you could just give that up? 00:55:54.55\00:55:56.55 Because, you know, Jesus would have died for one. 00:55:56.58\00:55:57.95 He would have given that up for one. 00:55:57.99\00:56:00.46 He has physically touched us, He's become one with us, 00:56:00.49\00:56:03.53 and this is an amazing love. 00:56:03.56\00:56:05.09 You know, God loves us. 00:56:05.13\00:56:07.23 He loves us through gifts, 00:56:07.26\00:56:08.63 He loves us through physical touch, 00:56:08.66\00:56:10.47 and His love is tangible. 00:56:10.50\00:56:12.40 God loves us practically. 00:56:12.43\00:56:14.04 God speaks to us in love languages, 00:56:14.07\00:56:17.17 in the language of love. 00:56:17.21\00:56:18.54 Never doubt that. 00:56:18.57\00:56:19.91 God has given Himself for us in the person of Jesus Christ. 00:56:19.94\00:56:24.11 God does not require sacrifice for sin, 00:56:24.15\00:56:26.41 He provides the sacrifice for sin. 00:56:26.45\00:56:28.98 He is the sacrifice for sin. 00:56:29.02\00:56:30.59 That was always God's plan B, the gift of love. 00:56:30.62\00:56:34.02 God became one with the human race forever, 00:56:34.06\00:56:35.99 God did not become a man for 33 years and say, 00:56:36.02\00:56:38.43 "I'm going to go back to heaven. 00:56:38.46\00:56:39.79 And you know, all things will continue as they were." 00:56:39.83\00:56:41.50 No. 00:56:41.53\00:56:42.86 God, in Jesus Christ, became permanently part 00:56:42.90\00:56:47.90 of the human race. 00:56:47.94\00:56:49.80 And this is love. 00:56:49.84\00:56:51.17 And these are the languages of love. 00:56:51.21\00:56:52.97 And they're powerful. 00:56:53.01\00:56:54.34 And God wants us to hear them, 00:56:54.38\00:56:57.41 and then He wants us to communicate them. 00:56:57.45\00:57:00.08 And tonight, as we kick off our camp meeting, 00:57:00.12\00:57:02.78 we're going to be continuing to move through this theme 00:57:02.82\00:57:04.79 of something better, a better God, 00:57:04.82\00:57:06.86 and a better man, 00:57:06.89\00:57:08.22 and the plan of salvation that God has laid out for us. 00:57:08.26\00:57:11.39 And I'm praying that God will speak to each one of us 00:57:11.43\00:57:13.46 and help us to get our eyes on Him, on heaven, 00:57:13.50\00:57:16.26 and all the things of this world that have been 00:57:16.30\00:57:17.80 so discouraging. 00:57:17.83\00:57:19.17 Let's pray together. 00:57:19.20\00:57:20.54 Father in heaven, thank You this evening for Your love. 00:57:20.57\00:57:22.10 Thank You for Your grace. 00:57:22.14\00:57:23.47 Thank You for the gift 00:57:23.51\00:57:24.84 that You've given us in Jesus Christ. 00:57:24.87\00:57:26.44 Thank You for being a God that speaks to us 00:57:26.47\00:57:31.58 and communicates to us even to the very end that endures, 00:57:31.61\00:57:35.05 whose love endures, whose love calls us, 00:57:35.08\00:57:37.65 whose love isn't exclusive, but is inclusive. 00:57:37.69\00:57:42.46 Guide each one who is hearing this message, 00:57:42.49\00:57:44.79 touch their hearts with this everlasting gospel, 00:57:44.83\00:57:47.50 we pray in Jesus' name. 00:57:47.53\00:57:49.16 Amen. 00:57:49.20\00:57:50.53
