" 00:07:08.56\00:07:11.56 Audience: Amen. 00:07:11.59\00:07:12.93 "Dear Lord, we've opened your holy Word, 00:07:12.96\00:07:15.10 we pray now that you'd speak to us 00:07:15.13\00:07:18.17 and give us spiritual ears that we might hear 00:07:18.20\00:07:21.87 that still small voice speaking to us 00:07:21.90\00:07:24.77 and I pray that you would stir our hearts within 00:07:24.81\00:07:28.11 with Holy Spirit fiery conviction... 00:07:28.14\00:07:30.95 and may the conviction result in a deeper conversion of our lives 00:07:30.98\00:07:35.95 please Lord, hide me behind the blessed cross, 00:07:35.98\00:07:39.72 speak to me and through me to each one of us 00:07:39.75\00:07:43.46 and I pray that our lives would never be the same 00:07:43.49\00:07:46.43 as a result, 00:07:46.46\00:07:47.83 in the name of Jesus we pray, amen. " 00:07:47.86\00:07:50.93 Psalm 39 verse 1, the Bible says, 00:07:50.97\00:07:55.10 "I said, I will take heed to my ways, 00:07:55.14\00:07:59.24 that I sin not with my tongue: 00:07:59.27\00:08:02.41 I will keep my mouth with a bridle, 00:08:02.44\00:08:05.61 while the wicked is before me. 00:08:05.65\00:08:08.18 I was dumb with silence, 00:08:08.22\00:08:10.85 I held my peace, even from good; 00:08:10.89\00:08:13.99 and my sorrow was stirred. " 00:08:14.06\00:08:18.03 Verse 3, 00:08:18.13\00:08:19.46 "My heart was hot within me, 00:08:19.49\00:08:23.37 and while I was musing the fire burned: 00:08:23.40\00:08:28.07 then spake I with my tongue... " 00:08:28.10\00:08:31.97 Here the Psalmist describes the spark of conviction 00:08:32.01\00:08:37.48 that grew into an overwhelming flame, 00:08:37.51\00:08:40.82 the Psalmist is saying here that he was musing 00:08:40.85\00:08:44.95 he was meditating... 00:08:44.99\00:08:46.55 he was contemplating and cogitating 00:08:46.59\00:08:49.29 upon his present situation 00:08:49.32\00:08:50.79 and as he did, the molten lava of emotion 00:08:50.83\00:08:54.66 swirled in his heart and it bubbled in his mind 00:08:54.70\00:08:58.17 and that inferno was unquenchable. 00:08:58.20\00:09:01.40 The blaze was inextinguishable 00:09:01.47\00:09:04.21 so when he finally opened his mouth, 00:09:04.24\00:09:07.11 to express the feelings of his heart, 00:09:07.18\00:09:09.94 it was like a volcanic eruption of emotion 00:09:10.01\00:09:13.18 that was just poured out 00:09:13.21\00:09:14.72 and I want us to admit to us friends today 00:09:14.75\00:09:17.75 that this is the way that we ought to pray 00:09:17.79\00:09:20.69 and praise and preach Jesus to the end of the world 00:09:20.72\00:09:24.86 with the fire of Holy Spirit conviction. 00:09:25.03\00:09:29.10 It wasn't long ago when I got the chance to visit 00:09:29.13\00:09:32.53 the old Hawaiian town called Kalapana. 00:09:32.60\00:09:35.44 Kalapana was once a popular and well-populated beach town 00:09:35.47\00:09:39.54 located right along the southeast shore 00:09:39.57\00:09:42.28 of the big island at the base of Kilauea. 00:09:42.31\00:09:44.95 Kilauea is the longest active volcano in the world 00:09:45.01\00:09:48.52 located right there in the beautiful Islands of Hawaii 00:09:48.55\00:09:52.02 but tragically, the whole town was wiped out 00:09:52.05\00:09:55.62 during the 1986 lava flow. 00:09:55.66\00:09:58.09 Every business... every street and every home was destroyed 00:09:58.13\00:10:01.60 by the lava flow 00:10:01.63\00:10:03.10 and so when you go there now, 00:10:03.16\00:10:04.83 all you can see is a desolate desert of black lava rocks, 00:10:04.87\00:10:08.70 there's really nothing that's easy on the eye 00:10:08.74\00:10:11.11 but there's something at the end of town 00:10:11.14\00:10:13.51 that drew hundreds of people every single day 00:10:13.54\00:10:17.08 but in order to see it, 00:10:17.11\00:10:19.25 you have to go beyond the paved easy pathway. 00:10:19.28\00:10:23.12 It's a tiresome four-mile hike but every step is worth it 00:10:23.15\00:10:27.89 because when you get to the end, 00:10:27.92\00:10:30.79 you are brought to see what I call 00:10:30.83\00:10:33.60 one of the top five things to see before you die 00:10:33.63\00:10:36.13 and that is... raging rivers of lava 00:10:36.16\00:10:39.50 flowing into the Pacific Ocean. 00:10:39.53\00:10:41.50 It is an incredible sight... 00:10:41.54\00:10:43.14 I did the trip not long ago, 00:10:43.17\00:10:44.67 I was driven and drawn further beyond 00:10:44.74\00:10:47.91 and what I saw was absolutely mesmerizing, 00:10:47.94\00:10:50.28 the pictures just don't do it justice, 00:10:50.31\00:10:52.55 so allow me to try to describe it for you 00:10:52.58\00:10:54.75 upon the canvas of your imagination. 00:10:54.78\00:10:57.52 After the four-mile hike, 00:10:57.55\00:10:59.59 you have to go down this rugged rocky road 00:10:59.62\00:11:02.86 and you have to walk out over the jagged, broken, 00:11:02.92\00:11:06.19 uneven mounds of black lava rock, 00:11:06.23\00:11:08.40 then you come to the edge of the cliff 00:11:08.43\00:11:10.47 that overlooks the fiery peninsula 00:11:10.50\00:11:12.50 and from that vantage point, 00:11:12.53\00:11:14.30 you can see streams of these red river rocks 00:11:14.34\00:11:17.57 flowing into the ocean 00:11:17.61\00:11:19.37 and when the lava touches the water, 00:11:19.41\00:11:21.71 it creates a violent reaction. 00:11:21.74\00:11:23.98 The river of hot lava rock 00:11:24.01\00:11:26.18 clashing with the cold liquid ocean 00:11:26.21\00:11:28.35 creates an incredible sight. 00:11:28.38\00:11:29.85 There are aggressive explosions 00:11:29.88\00:11:31.32 of red rocks shooting into the air, 00:11:31.35\00:11:33.72 followed by streaks of red and orange sparks 00:11:33.76\00:11:36.73 arching to the ground 00:11:36.76\00:11:38.09 and the intense heat causes the salt water to vaporize 00:11:38.13\00:11:41.03 immediately on contact 00:11:41.06\00:11:42.40 creating billowing steam clouds that rise hundreds of feet 00:11:42.43\00:11:45.60 into the atmosphere 00:11:45.63\00:11:46.97 and the glow the molten rock causes the steam clouds 00:11:47.00\00:11:49.80 to glow up... red and yellow and orange 00:11:49.84\00:11:52.27 and even pink and purple at times, 00:11:52.31\00:11:54.18 now, some of the lava solidifies 00:11:54.24\00:11:56.04 increasing the land mass of the island 00:11:56.08\00:11:58.91 and other smaller pieces of lava explode 00:11:58.95\00:12:01.22 into millions of pieces 00:12:01.25\00:12:03.18 creating the beautiful black sandy beaches 00:12:03.22\00:12:05.62 and it's an amazing... amazing sight. 00:12:05.65\00:12:08.66 Sunsets and sun rises are the best times to view it 00:12:08.69\00:12:11.89 so that you can see the transitioning colors 00:12:11.96\00:12:14.03 from day to night 00:12:14.06\00:12:15.40 and from night to day 00:12:15.43\00:12:16.77 and I got the chance to experience both 00:12:16.80\00:12:18.13 and was blessed to capture some amazing pictures 00:12:18.17\00:12:20.97 and to say the least, friends, I was blown away by what I saw. 00:12:21.00\00:12:24.61 I was awakened by its light, warmed by its heat, 00:12:24.64\00:12:29.34 mesmerized by its movement and captivated by its power, 00:12:29.38\00:12:33.72 I could definitely spend hours just watching the power of God 00:12:33.75\00:12:37.19 through living creation, 00:12:37.25\00:12:38.59 in fact, how many of you would like to come to Hawaii one day 00:12:38.62\00:12:40.39 and see it for yourself? 00:12:40.42\00:12:41.76 Amen... but I'm sorry to tell you that 00:12:41.79\00:12:45.43 in the most recent eruption a few months ago, 00:12:45.46\00:12:48.16 all the lava in the crater drained out 00:12:48.20\00:12:50.20 like water in a bathtub 00:12:50.23\00:12:51.57 but you can still go and see the aftermath of the flow 00:12:51.60\00:12:54.34 and you can walk on freshly-made black sandy beaches, 00:12:54.37\00:12:57.34 it's beautiful but in order to see it, 00:12:57.37\00:12:59.24 you have to be driven and drawn further beyond. 00:12:59.27\00:13:03.04 My friends, as I had this experience, 00:13:03.08\00:13:06.45 I got to thinking that there's something about fire 00:13:06.51\00:13:09.82 that captivates the senses 00:13:09.85\00:13:12.95 and I believe that this is how God wants us to feel about Him 00:13:13.02\00:13:17.36 and work in sharing Him with others. 00:13:17.39\00:13:20.66 That's how the Psalmist felt when he prayed 00:13:20.70\00:13:22.43 and by-the-way, Jeremiah the prophet felt the same way. 00:13:22.46\00:13:26.10 In Jeremiah chapter 20 and verse 9, Jeremiah testified, 00:13:26.13\00:13:29.30 "Then I said, I will not make mention of Him 00:13:29.34\00:13:32.01 nor speak any more in His name. 00:13:32.04\00:13:34.34 But His word was in my heart as burning fire 00:13:34.38\00:13:40.22 shut upon in my bones; and I was weary with forbearing, 00:13:40.25\00:13:43.15 and I could not stay. " Jeremiah said. 00:13:43.18\00:13:45.35 You see, there came a time in Jeremiah's experience 00:13:45.39\00:13:48.62 where he tried to repress the message and resist the mission. 00:13:48.66\00:13:52.99 There came a time in Jeremiah's experience 00:13:53.03\00:13:55.16 that he got discouraged because it seemed like 00:13:55.20\00:13:57.23 no one was listening to what he was saying 00:13:57.27\00:13:59.27 and so, he tried to keep quiet 00:13:59.30\00:14:02.74 but the fire of God consumed him, 00:14:02.77\00:14:06.17 the living Word in his heart was crying out to be heard 00:14:06.24\00:14:10.05 crying out for expression and Jeremiah couldn't hold it back. 00:14:10.08\00:14:14.12 He had to let it out 00:14:14.15\00:14:15.92 and so, like a volcanic eruption, 00:14:15.95\00:14:17.95 he proclaimed the unquenchable words of life 00:14:17.99\00:14:21.22 and thus the light of truth 00:14:21.26\00:14:22.86 penetrated the darkness of indifference... 00:14:22.89\00:14:26.66 the warmth of love penetrated the coldness of spiritual error, 00:14:26.70\00:14:30.63 my friends, today, we live in a cold, dark world, 00:14:30.90\00:14:34.34 a world where the love of many is growing cold 00:14:34.37\00:14:37.74 and I submit that when we need more in our lives... 00:14:37.77\00:14:40.61 in our marriages... in our ministries... 00:14:40.64\00:14:42.71 in our messages... 00:14:42.74\00:14:44.08 is the unquenchable fire of God 00:14:44.11\00:14:47.05 but in order to obtain it, we have to be driven and drawn 00:14:47.08\00:14:51.55 further beyond. 00:14:51.59\00:14:53.19 When we were in Europe, a few years ago, 00:14:53.22\00:14:57.36 we were in such-and-such-a city 00:14:57.43\00:15:00.26 and we saw one of the most disturbing sights 00:15:00.30\00:15:03.50 we'd ever witnessed. 00:15:03.53\00:15:05.27 We saw posters plastered all over the city 00:15:05.30\00:15:08.80 and all over the news and internet 00:15:08.84\00:15:11.41 of a man who set himself on fire, 00:15:11.44\00:15:13.98 he was a Tibetan exile that doused himself with gasoline... 00:15:14.01\00:15:19.45 set himself on fire in order to protest 00:15:19.48\00:15:22.18 the injustices of the Chinese President 00:15:22.22\00:15:25.05 and in that city, everywhere you turned, 00:15:25.09\00:15:27.89 you saw posters of this man, it was a disturbing sight. 00:15:27.92\00:15:31.56 This extreme act caught the attention of the whole world 00:15:31.59\00:15:35.23 and when I saw that, 00:15:35.26\00:15:37.37 I started thinking, you know, 00:15:37.40\00:15:39.53 when the church of God is on fire, 00:15:39.57\00:15:41.30 the whole world is going to take notice. 00:15:41.34\00:15:43.74 It reminded me of what that famous English Reformer 00:15:43.77\00:15:48.41 and spiritual Method man, John Wesley said, 00:15:48.44\00:15:51.41 "Catch on fire and people will come for miles 00:15:51.45\00:15:54.38 to watch you burn. " 00:15:54.42\00:15:55.75 And Friends, I believe that that's perhaps 00:15:55.78\00:15:59.49 one of the reasons why many of our churches are empty 00:15:59.52\00:16:01.82 is because our churches... our ministry... our messages... 00:16:01.89\00:16:06.76 like the offering of Cain, we lack the fire of God. 00:16:06.80\00:16:11.87 That's what we need friends. 00:16:11.90\00:16:13.60 Last year, January... 00:16:13.64\00:16:17.67 my family and I experienced a terrible tragedy. 00:16:17.71\00:16:21.51 Some of you heard about it. 00:16:21.54\00:16:23.24 At 3 o'clock in the morning, 00:16:23.28\00:16:24.85 a thief came in the night and set fire 00:16:24.91\00:16:27.18 to the abandoned house next to ours 00:16:27.22\00:16:29.45 and that's me trying to extinguish the flame 00:16:29.48\00:16:31.49 with my garden hose. 00:16:31.52\00:16:33.02 The fire quickly spread to our home 00:16:33.05\00:16:35.36 causing over $700,000 of damage and at 3 o'clock in the morning, 00:16:35.39\00:16:39.66 we saw almost all the people that lived on our street 00:16:39.69\00:16:43.70 that came out of their house. 00:16:43.73\00:16:45.13 They left their warm beds and they're out in the cold street 00:16:45.17\00:16:48.94 to watch the fire and as I saw that, I was thinking, 00:16:48.97\00:16:51.74 "Man, what was it that caused them to leave their beds 00:16:51.77\00:16:54.51 to wake these people up to come out to the cold street?" 00:16:54.54\00:16:57.25 There's something about fire that awakens people. 00:16:57.28\00:17:01.22 There's something about fire that brings people together 00:17:01.25\00:17:05.29 in times of coldness and darkness 00:17:05.35\00:17:07.79 and my friends, this was the experience 00:17:07.82\00:17:10.03 of the early apostolic church. 00:17:10.06\00:17:11.89 Take your Bible and turn with me to the book of Acts chapter 2. 00:17:11.93\00:17:15.63 Acts chapter 2 where we read about the experience 00:17:15.66\00:17:20.00 of the original church. 00:17:20.04\00:17:21.64 The early apostolic church and how they had the fire of heaven. 00:17:21.67\00:17:26.81 Acts chapter 2 beginning with verse 1 00:17:26.84\00:17:29.41 and when you get there, 00:17:29.44\00:17:30.78 would you let me know by saying, "Amen. " 00:17:30.81\00:17:32.15 It says, "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, 00:17:32.18\00:17:35.52 they were all in one accord in one place. 00:17:35.55\00:17:38.65 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven 00:17:38.69\00:17:41.79 as of a rushing mighty wind, 00:17:41.82\00:17:43.16 and it filled the house where they were sitting. 00:17:43.19\00:17:45.49 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of... " 00:17:45.53\00:17:48.96 what? "like as of fire, 00:17:49.00\00:17:51.30 and it sat upon each of them. " 00:17:51.33\00:17:53.74 Here we read Friends 00:17:53.77\00:17:55.67 of the experience of the apostles. 00:17:55.70\00:17:57.57 You see, before this, 00:17:57.61\00:17:59.47 they had experienced the tragedy... for them at least... 00:17:59.51\00:18:02.98 of the cross. 00:18:03.04\00:18:04.38 For the disciples, the cross was a time of great darkness 00:18:04.41\00:18:08.02 and great uncertainty. 00:18:08.05\00:18:09.38 However, in the upper room, 00:18:09.42\00:18:11.25 they had received the fire from heaven 00:18:11.29\00:18:13.25 and they finally understood the prophetic significance 00:18:13.29\00:18:16.42 of the cross 00:18:16.46\00:18:17.79 and the fire of heaven united them 00:18:17.83\00:18:20.23 in an unstoppable movement. 00:18:20.26\00:18:21.83 As the fire of the Holy Spirit fell upon that early church, 00:18:21.86\00:18:26.13 a wild fire of spiritual revival swept across the land, 00:18:26.17\00:18:30.41 bringing spiritual revolution to the whole world. 00:18:30.44\00:18:33.34 3,000 baptized in one day... 00:18:33.38\00:18:36.01 and the gospel's flame began to spread 00:18:36.04\00:18:38.65 to the ends of the earth. 00:18:38.68\00:18:40.02 As the lava of divine love flowed, 00:18:40.05\00:18:43.42 God's kingdom... the land mass of the kingdom of God 00:18:43.45\00:18:47.59 was enlarged 00:18:47.62\00:18:49.02 but I ask the question when I read this, 00:18:49.06\00:18:51.13 when I thought about their experience 00:18:51.19\00:18:53.29 and the wonderful success that they had, 00:18:53.33\00:18:55.36 why were their words so convincing? 00:18:55.40\00:18:58.53 What did they have that we lack? 00:18:58.57\00:19:01.67 Why is it that we're not experiencing 00:19:01.70\00:19:04.61 the power of Pentecost today? 00:19:04.64\00:19:07.34 What was their message about? 00:19:07.38\00:19:09.98 But the Bible says that they spoke with tongues of... what? 00:19:10.05\00:19:13.95 Fire... 00:19:13.98\00:19:15.75 you guys seem tired today, 00:19:15.78\00:19:18.25 you had a good Prayer Meeting last night, I'm sure, 00:19:18.29\00:19:22.86 laughing... 00:19:22.89\00:19:24.39 but if you feel tired, just shake yourself 00:19:24.43\00:19:26.19 and if you see someone next to you nodding off, 00:19:26.26\00:19:30.00 give them a sanctified nudge. 00:19:30.07\00:19:31.40 Laughing... 00:19:31.43\00:19:32.77 But the Bible says they spoke with tongues of fire, 00:19:32.80\00:19:35.27 now, tell me Friends, what is the purpose of a tongue? 00:19:35.30\00:19:37.74 Pause... 00:19:37.77\00:19:39.14 it's not only to taste good food 00:19:39.17\00:19:40.84 but the primary purpose of your tongue is to communicate. 00:19:40.88\00:19:44.05 So when I said, "They had tongues of fire" 00:19:44.08\00:19:46.11 it's because the message they communicated 00:19:46.15\00:19:48.12 was a fiery message. 00:19:48.15\00:19:50.15 It was a message of fire and brimstone 00:19:50.19\00:19:53.39 but not like how we think 00:19:53.42\00:19:55.12 and Friends, if we can... 00:19:55.16\00:19:56.79 if we can discover what their message was, 00:19:56.83\00:20:00.43 we will then be able to define what the fire is 00:20:00.46\00:20:04.60 that made all the difference for them 00:20:04.63\00:20:06.63 and would make all the difference for us. 00:20:06.67\00:20:08.64 So, what exactly was the main point 00:20:08.67\00:20:11.74 of that Pentecostal sermon? 00:20:11.77\00:20:13.54 Well, if you read in verse 36, 00:20:13.58\00:20:15.81 Peter is coming to the conclusion 00:20:15.84\00:20:18.05 and he is summarizing the main point of that sermon 00:20:18.08\00:20:20.95 that brought spiritual revolution to the world. 00:20:20.98\00:20:24.79 Notice, Acts 2 verse 36, it says, "Therefore... " 00:20:24.82\00:20:27.72 and that word "Therefore" is a conclusionary word, 00:20:27.79\00:20:30.63 Peter is about to articulate the main point of the sermon. 00:20:30.66\00:20:36.03 "Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly, 00:20:36.06\00:20:41.40 that God hath made that same Jesus, 00:20:41.44\00:20:45.27 whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ. " 00:20:45.31\00:20:50.21 Pause... 00:20:50.25\00:20:52.35 That's what the message was. 00:20:52.38\00:20:53.72 Now, we can define what the fire is, 00:20:53.75\00:20:57.05 the main point of that Pentecostal sermon 00:20:57.09\00:20:59.49 was that One that they counted as a criminal... 00:20:59.52\00:21:02.89 that they nailed to the cruel cross, 00:21:02.92\00:21:05.56 was indeed the Christ of God 00:21:05.59\00:21:09.10 and friends, when they realize that, 00:21:09.13\00:21:12.33 they understood that the fire was the burning love of God. 00:21:12.37\00:21:18.21 A love that can look into the face of His murderers 00:21:18.24\00:21:21.84 and say, "Father, forgive them... 00:21:21.91\00:21:23.91 they don't know what they're doing. " 00:21:23.95\00:21:25.91 It was a love that was shown within death, 00:21:25.95\00:21:28.92 a love that is stronger than sin, 00:21:28.95\00:21:31.19 you see, my friends, "to be on fire" 00:21:31.22\00:21:33.46 doesn't necessarily mean that 00:21:33.49\00:21:34.86 we are filled with evangelistic zeal 00:21:34.89\00:21:37.26 because there are many people that are zealous for Evangelism 00:21:37.33\00:21:40.90 but are cold like an arctic winter. 00:21:40.96\00:21:43.16 The reality is... is that to be on fire really is to be in love. 00:21:43.20\00:21:48.50 Amen... 00:21:48.54\00:21:50.87 and this love of God... 00:21:50.91\00:21:54.08 this unselfish love demonstrated at the cross... 00:21:54.11\00:21:57.71 it consumed the early church of their earthliness. 00:21:57.78\00:22:01.18 The fire of this love burned their unbelief, 00:22:01.22\00:22:04.65 it warmed the coldness of their heart, 00:22:04.69\00:22:07.09 it enlightened the darkness of their lives, 00:22:07.12\00:22:09.49 and then it began to spread to the ends of the earth, 00:22:09.52\00:22:12.29 to be on fire simply means, to be in love. 00:22:12.36\00:22:15.03 In fact, I want you to notice how the love song of the Bible, 00:22:15.06\00:22:17.80 the Song of Solomon, describes the love of God. 00:22:17.83\00:22:20.64 You know, when you want to get in touch with your romantic side 00:22:20.70\00:22:24.34 you read the book, Song of Solomon, right? 00:22:24.37\00:22:26.11 Smiling... 00:22:26.17\00:22:27.51 It's a love song... 00:22:27.54\00:22:29.08 a song between the husband and the bride 00:22:29.11\00:22:30.45 and notice what it says here, 00:22:30.48\00:22:31.81 Song of Solomon chapter 8 verses 6 and 7, 00:22:31.85\00:22:33.85 the Bible says, please write it down, 00:22:33.92\00:22:36.15 notice with me on the screen, 00:22:36.18\00:22:37.52 it says, 00:22:37.55\00:22:40.36 its flames are flames of... " what? 00:22:47.56\00:22:50.67 To be on fire simply means to be in love. 00:23:03.81\00:23:07.38 The apostles were consumed by God's love 00:23:07.42\00:23:10.92 and the flame was so intense 00:23:10.99\00:23:13.22 that the floods of persecution and opposition 00:23:13.25\00:23:15.52 could not quench that flame. 00:23:15.56\00:23:17.69 The church was drawn by the lava of Jesus' love 00:23:17.73\00:23:21.50 and now they were driven to share it to the whole world. 00:23:21.53\00:23:25.50 They were driven out of their comfort zone 00:23:25.53\00:23:27.10 to go to the end of the earth, 00:23:27.14\00:23:28.47 they were driven and drawn further beyond... 00:23:28.50\00:23:31.87 the church of God was on fire 00:23:31.94\00:23:34.14 and my friends, we've been told 00:23:34.18\00:23:36.31 that what happened back then is but a glimpse 00:23:36.34\00:23:39.11 of what God is wanting to repeat in the last days 00:23:39.15\00:23:41.85 with the remnant church. 00:23:41.88\00:23:43.22 We've been told that the former flame is... 00:23:43.25\00:23:46.09 is just a glimpse of... 00:23:46.12\00:23:47.46 of the greater latter flame of the last days 00:23:47.49\00:23:49.99 and God wants to be a part of that 00:23:50.03\00:23:51.99 final great spiritual reformation 00:23:52.03\00:23:53.93 a religious revolution that will set the whole world on fire 00:23:53.96\00:23:58.47 and it's up to you if you want to be a part of it. 00:23:58.50\00:24:01.00 It is called... in the Bible... the Elijah Message. 00:24:01.04\00:24:03.47 The Elijah generation... 00:24:03.51\00:24:05.37 individuals whose lives will be consumed by the fire of heaven, 00:24:05.44\00:24:10.01 Friends, how many of you want to be a part of that 00:24:10.05\00:24:12.18 final fiery movement? Amen. 00:24:12.21\00:24:14.08 Audience: Amen. 00:24:14.12\00:24:15.45 But in order to be a part of it, 00:24:15.48\00:24:17.15 we have to be driven and drawn further beyond. 00:24:17.19\00:24:20.96 But the question is this, where do we start? 00:24:20.99\00:24:25.56 Because before we can be drawn further beyond, 00:24:25.59\00:24:30.13 we got to start somewhere. 00:24:30.17\00:24:32.40 We got to start close to home. 00:24:32.43\00:24:34.60 So, where does the work of a World Changer... 00:24:34.64\00:24:37.87 a Heaven Filler... 00:24:37.91\00:24:39.24 a Destiny Transformer actually begin? 00:24:39.27\00:24:41.94 You know, the song says, "It only takes a spark 00:24:41.98\00:24:44.51 that gets a fire going. " 00:24:44.55\00:24:47.48 So, where does the spark begin? 00:24:47.52\00:24:49.38 where did it begin for them? 00:24:49.42\00:24:51.22 Well, our theme verse for this GYC 00:24:51.25\00:24:54.99 is Acts chapter 1 and verse 8. 00:24:55.02\00:24:56.56 Let's read that again, 00:24:56.62\00:24:57.96 the Bible says, "But you shall receive power.. " 00:24:57.99\00:25:01.63 that's the word "Dunamis" 00:25:01.66\00:25:03.06 of which we get the English word, "Dynamite. " 00:25:03.10\00:25:05.37 The power of God... 00:25:05.40\00:25:07.30 "... after that the Holy ghost is come upon you: 00:25:07.34\00:25:09.57 and you shall be witnesses unto me both in... " 00:25:09.60\00:25:11.84 where first? 00:25:11.87\00:25:13.78 "Jerusalem, and in Judaea, and in Samaria, 00:25:13.81\00:25:18.01 and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. " 00:25:18.05\00:25:19.98 And so we see according to the passage, 00:25:20.02\00:25:22.58 that the dynamite power of the Spirit 00:25:22.62\00:25:25.19 ignited this spiritual revolution 00:25:25.22\00:25:27.72 but the divine spark would first burn in Jerusalem. 00:25:27.76\00:25:31.99 In relation to the disciples, that was closest to home 00:25:32.03\00:25:36.23 but then the impact of that spark 00:25:36.26\00:25:39.63 would be like a... the ripple effect, 00:25:39.67\00:25:42.50 it would go from Jerusalem, then Judaea... then Samaria 00:25:42.54\00:25:45.37 then to the end... the uttermost parts of the world 00:25:45.44\00:25:48.24 and Friends, the principle... 00:25:48.28\00:25:51.61 the simple and profound principle from this 00:25:51.65\00:25:54.05 is that if you want to be a World Changer, 00:25:54.08\00:25:56.38 before you go to the end of the world, 00:25:56.42\00:25:58.25 you have to go to the end of your street. 00:25:58.29\00:26:00.09 You got to start at home first. 00:26:00.16\00:26:03.43 Be faithful in the little things. 00:26:03.46\00:26:07.16 Do the duty that lies nearest to you. 00:26:07.20\00:26:10.40 Don't worry about what you don't have, 00:26:10.43\00:26:13.54 just give what you got and God will give you more 00:26:13.57\00:26:16.10 and like Jesus, have a faithful regard 00:26:16.14\00:26:19.77 for the one soul audience... 00:26:19.81\00:26:23.04 the person that God places in your path from day to day 00:26:23.08\00:26:27.55 and Friends, this verse impacted me so profoundly 00:26:27.58\00:26:31.12 when I became a Christian. 00:26:31.15\00:26:33.22 You see, my journey in evangelism 00:26:33.25\00:26:35.49 started really when I was converted. 00:26:35.52\00:26:37.69 When I was 16 years old, I wasn't brought up in church 00:26:37.73\00:26:40.76 or any religion 00:26:40.80\00:26:42.13 and growing up, I had no idea about what the Bible taught 00:26:42.16\00:26:46.13 or what God was like 00:26:46.17\00:26:47.54 and the Lord saved me from that situation 00:26:47.57\00:26:50.87 and I gave my first sermon when I was 16 years old. 00:26:50.91\00:26:53.51 You should have heard it, it was terrible 00:26:53.54\00:26:54.94 pause... 00:26:54.98\00:26:56.71 but the Lord started giving me opportunities 00:26:56.75\00:26:58.91 and I just shared what I knew. 00:26:58.95\00:27:00.28 I went back to my old public high school 00:27:00.32\00:27:02.68 and I started giving Bible Studies 00:27:02.72\00:27:04.65 and I remember the first Bible Study I gave, 00:27:04.72\00:27:07.56 it was very simple, it was just five minutes long, 00:27:07.59\00:27:10.09 and three simple verses that I had highlighted in my Bible 00:27:10.13\00:27:13.09 and I just read those verses and I tried... 00:27:13.13\00:27:16.00 I kind of strung them together 00:27:16.03\00:27:17.37 and I read them with conviction and gave little comments 00:27:17.40\00:27:20.67 and I noticed that when I did that, 00:27:20.70\00:27:22.40 one of the... one of the sisters... 00:27:22.47\00:27:24.11 one of the classmates that was in the Bible Study, 00:27:24.14\00:27:26.61 started weeping uncontrollably 00:27:26.64\00:27:29.18 with conviction of her need of God. 00:27:29.21\00:27:32.71 Let me tell you Friends, when I saw that, 00:27:32.78\00:27:35.05 I was hooked... 00:27:35.08\00:27:36.65 I found a new "high" evangelism... 00:27:36.69\00:27:41.32 and I was... I said to myself, 00:27:41.36\00:27:43.43 "Man, I want to do this for the rest of my life. " 00:27:43.46\00:27:47.10 It let God use me to have that kind of impact on somebody else 00:27:47.13\00:27:52.67 and so, I started to... to lead out in Bible Studies 00:27:52.73\00:27:55.44 in that... in that public high school 00:27:55.47\00:27:57.64 and... and... and... the Lord blessed in a rich way. 00:27:57.67\00:28:00.51 You see, before I came to know Jesus, 00:28:00.54\00:28:02.11 I was on fire... but it was of the strange fire of Marijuana. 00:28:02.14\00:28:08.58 In Hawaii we call it "Pakalolo" 00:28:08.62\00:28:11.05 because when you smoke it, it makes you "lolo" 00:28:11.09\00:28:13.49 but when I found Jesus, He set me on fire with the Holy Spirit 00:28:13.52\00:28:19.53 and I would go back to my old friends 00:28:19.56\00:28:23.13 I used to do drugs with... 00:28:23.16\00:28:24.50 you know, they were trying to tempt me, 00:28:24.53\00:28:26.03 trying to get me back... 00:28:26.07\00:28:27.44 I would say, "No thanks, I found a new 'high' 00:28:27.47\00:28:29.94 I found the Most High... you ought to try it" 00:28:29.97\00:28:32.41 and they would listen, 00:28:32.44\00:28:33.94 they would come to these Bible Studies 00:28:33.98\00:28:36.01 that I held every day 00:28:36.04\00:28:37.71 and I wasn't trained to do... I didn't know what I was doing, 00:28:37.75\00:28:39.58 I simply shared what I knew as a high schooler 00:28:39.61\00:28:41.72 in public high school 00:28:41.75\00:28:43.08 and as a result of those Bible Studies, 00:28:43.12\00:28:45.25 six of my friends and their family members 00:28:45.29\00:28:47.46 made decisions and were baptized as well, amen. 00:28:47.49\00:28:50.29 Audience: Amen. 00:28:50.33\00:28:51.66 After graduating from High School, 00:28:51.69\00:28:54.03 I took a year off to work for God in my own hometown 00:28:54.06\00:28:57.43 and the reason why I chose that 00:28:57.47\00:28:58.83 is because I read Acts 1 verse 8, 00:28:58.87\00:29:00.30 the theme verse for our Conference 00:29:00.34\00:29:01.70 and I saw that God called the disciples 00:29:01.74\00:29:04.71 to burn in Jerusalem first, then Judaea... Samaria... 00:29:04.77\00:29:07.58 before they would go to the end and so, I was convicted 00:29:07.64\00:29:10.45 to... to... to... just stay home for a year 00:29:10.48\00:29:12.41 and be a missionary in my own hometown 00:29:12.48\00:29:14.25 and my objective for that year and my goal was, 00:29:14.28\00:29:16.62 I wanted to canvass every neighborhood 00:29:16.65\00:29:18.95 and knock on every door I could in that time period 00:29:19.02\00:29:22.19 in my hometown, offering Bible Studies and 00:29:22.22\00:29:24.79 and... and... and sharing Jesus with people in my own community. 00:29:24.83\00:29:28.46 Before ministering to strangers, 00:29:28.50\00:29:30.87 I wanted all my friends... my family... 00:29:30.93\00:29:33.64 those who I already had influence over, 00:29:33.70\00:29:36.34 to have an opportunity to hear the things I heard 00:29:36.40\00:29:39.84 and to know the Jesus that I had come to know... 00:29:39.87\00:29:43.31 my Friends, when I made that decision 00:29:43.35\00:29:45.05 to be a missionary in my own hometown, 00:29:45.08\00:29:46.72 no one told me to do it, 00:29:46.78\00:29:48.42 no one asked me to do it, 00:29:48.45\00:29:50.29 no one trained me to do it, 00:29:50.32\00:29:52.05 I didn't ask anyone permission, I simply did it 00:29:52.09\00:29:55.09 because that's the conviction God placed on my heart 00:29:55.12\00:29:57.26 according to Acts 1 and verse 8 00:29:57.29\00:29:59.69 and that was one of the greatest years... 00:29:59.73\00:30:02.26 my faith grew as I learned to trust God day by day. 00:30:02.30\00:30:06.77 God wants to use you to change your hometown... 00:30:06.80\00:30:11.24 your home church... 00:30:11.27\00:30:12.87 your school... your community... 00:30:12.91\00:30:15.34 if God can use an ex-druggie like me, He can use anyone, amen 00:30:15.38\00:30:19.31 but after that year was finished, 00:30:19.38\00:30:21.68 I was driven and drawn further beyond. 00:30:21.72\00:30:25.29 Went to two-year Bible College 00:30:25.32\00:30:27.29 in the dry, hot, arid desert of Arizona 00:30:27.32\00:30:29.82 and that was a burning experience 00:30:29.89\00:30:32.49 in more ways than one. 00:30:32.53\00:30:34.13 After that, I was hired by the Central California Conference 00:30:34.20\00:30:37.30 to do evangelism where my wife and I remained 00:30:37.33\00:30:39.93 for about 11 to 12 years 00:30:40.00\00:30:41.34 and there are too many stories, too little time to tell it, 00:30:41.37\00:30:43.17 but what happened was this, Friends, 00:30:43.20\00:30:44.97 God was gradually spreading me out 00:30:45.01\00:30:46.71 and taking me further. 00:30:46.74\00:30:48.11 Acts 1 verse 8 tells us that Jesus called the disciples 00:30:48.14\00:30:51.68 to burn in Jerusalem first... closest to home... 00:30:51.71\00:30:54.28 then let this fire spread to the uttermost parts of the earth. 00:30:54.32\00:30:58.45 It's a divine precedent the Lord gives us to follow 00:30:58.52\00:31:02.36 and when you think about those who were World Changers, 00:31:02.39\00:31:06.23 there's one that stands out as a World Changer 00:31:06.26\00:31:09.86 of the highest order, 00:31:09.90\00:31:11.23 for me, it would be the Apostle Paul. 00:31:11.27\00:31:13.44 Paul lived out the great commission, 00:31:13.47\00:31:15.67 he was one that would spend 00:31:15.70\00:31:17.44 and be spent for the cause of Christ, 00:31:17.47\00:31:20.14 he saw the fire of love on the door to Damascus 00:31:20.18\00:31:23.31 and when he saw the divine flame ever afterward, 00:31:23.35\00:31:26.48 he was consumed by the gospel, 00:31:26.51\00:31:28.48 he wanted everyone to know what a precious friend 00:31:28.52\00:31:31.05 he had found in Jesus 00:31:31.09\00:31:32.42 and Paul was one who was driven and drawn 00:31:32.45\00:31:35.29 further beyond. 00:31:35.32\00:31:37.86 Take your Bible, let's go to the book of Romans chapter 15, 00:31:37.89\00:31:40.26 and I want you to notice the testimony of the Apostle Paul 00:31:40.30\00:31:42.60 to the church there at Rome. 00:31:42.63\00:31:44.93 Romans 15 beginning with verse 20, 00:31:44.97\00:31:47.97 the Apostle Paul is writing to the church there 00:31:48.00\00:31:51.31 and he is describing the consuming burden of his life. 00:31:51.37\00:31:56.14 Romans 15 verse 20 00:31:56.18\00:31:58.31 and if you're there, would you please say, "Amen. " 00:31:58.35\00:32:01.35 Romans 15:20, the apostle says, "It has always been my ambition 00:32:01.38\00:32:07.76 to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, 00:32:07.79\00:32:11.86 so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation. " 00:32:11.89\00:32:15.16 Verse 21, rather, it is written, 00:32:15.20\00:32:17.07 "Those who were not told about Him will see, 00:32:17.10\00:32:19.33 and those who have not heard will understand. 00:32:19.40\00:32:21.57 This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you. " 00:32:21.60\00:32:25.91 Here we read Paul's burning desire was to preach the gospel 00:32:25.94\00:32:30.25 in places where the name of Christ was not known 00:32:30.28\00:32:32.95 and by the time Paul is writing this epistle to the Romans, 00:32:32.98\00:32:36.79 he had already done several missionary trips 00:32:36.82\00:32:39.65 all over the Mediterranean Sea 00:32:39.72\00:32:41.12 and he had already suffered so much for the Savior. 00:32:41.16\00:32:44.29 Paul had experienced shipwreck three times, 00:32:44.33\00:32:47.16 he was shunned and he was smitten... 00:32:47.20\00:32:49.26 he was bruised and battered and beaten 00:32:49.30\00:32:51.30 but the fire continued to burn in his heart and ministry. 00:32:51.33\00:32:55.70 Paul had spoken to all kinds of people. 00:32:55.74\00:32:57.94 Many people all over the world... commoners and kings 00:32:57.97\00:33:01.14 and priests and princes and peasants, 00:33:01.18\00:33:03.41 he had spoken to men of great renown 00:33:03.45\00:33:05.45 and women of special significance, 00:33:05.48\00:33:07.45 and by this time, 00:33:07.48\00:33:08.82 he had saturated the regions thoroughly 00:33:08.85\00:33:11.52 and the fire of God was spreading rapidly. 00:33:11.55\00:33:14.12 and so, finished with Jerusalem, 00:33:14.16\00:33:17.83 Judaea and Samaria, 00:33:17.86\00:33:20.50 Paul is now heading to the uttermost parts of the earth 00:33:20.53\00:33:24.33 for there was one distant corner 00:33:24.37\00:33:26.40 of the then-known Mediterranean world, 00:33:26.43\00:33:27.94 that Paul longed to see... 00:33:27.97\00:33:30.47 notice where that place was in verse 23. 00:33:30.51\00:33:34.24 "But now... " Paul says, 00:33:34.28\00:33:36.68 "But now that there is no more place for me 00:33:36.71\00:33:39.78 to work in these regions, 00:33:39.81\00:33:41.28 and since I have been longing for many years to visit you, 00:33:41.32\00:33:44.59 I plan to do so when I go to... " where? 00:33:44.62\00:33:48.32 "when I go to Spain. 00:33:48.36\00:33:50.13 I hope to see you while passing through 00:33:50.16\00:33:52.49 and to have you assist me on my journey there, 00:33:52.53\00:33:55.03 after I've enjoyed your company for a little while. " 00:33:55.06\00:33:58.43 Here we see Friends, that the longing of Paul's heart 00:33:58.47\00:34:01.80 was for Spain 00:34:01.84\00:34:03.44 because Spain represents the uttermost parts of the earth. 00:34:03.47\00:34:09.74 You see, Spain was far away from Jerusalem, 00:34:09.78\00:34:13.52 Judaea and Samaria. 00:34:13.55\00:34:15.35 It was the absolute outskirts of the then-known world 00:34:15.38\00:34:18.39 and Friends, if you were to go to Spain today, 00:34:18.42\00:34:21.92 the country of Spain has a motto, 00:34:21.96\00:34:25.09 the motto of the country of Spain is Latin... PLVS VLTRA 00:34:25.13\00:34:29.66 and, do you know what that means? 00:34:29.70\00:34:31.57 Of course, you do, you see it on the screen. 00:34:31.63\00:34:33.50 It literally means, "Further Beyond. " 00:34:33.54\00:34:38.21 So, Paul's desire for Spain 00:34:38.24\00:34:40.91 was a desire to go "further beyond. " 00:34:40.94\00:34:45.48 You see, Spain was like the end 00:34:45.51\00:34:47.15 of the then-known Mediterranean world, 00:34:47.18\00:34:49.35 isolated and secluded... few had been there. 00:34:49.38\00:34:53.36 It wasn't an easy trip 00:34:53.39\00:34:55.36 and very few people attempted the journey 00:34:55.42\00:34:57.83 but Paul knew, Friends, 00:34:57.89\00:34:59.26 that in order to fulfill the gospel commission, 00:34:59.29\00:35:01.53 to finish the work... he had to go to Spain 00:35:01.56\00:35:05.33 which is the uttermost parts of the world 00:35:05.37\00:35:07.37 and so, for Paul, going to Spain meant, 00:35:07.40\00:35:10.01 finishing the work and going home. 00:35:10.04\00:35:12.34 That's why he wanted to go to Spain. 00:35:12.37\00:35:14.61 You know, there's somebody else in the Bible 00:35:14.64\00:35:17.08 that also wanted to go to Spain, 00:35:17.11\00:35:18.45 his name was Jonah. 00:35:18.48\00:35:20.18 Jonah wanted to go to Spain... Tarshish... that's Spain... 00:35:20.22\00:35:26.32 but he wanted to go there on vacation 00:35:26.35\00:35:28.79 but Paul was going there on a mission. 00:35:28.82\00:35:31.19 You see, Paul made it clear to the church at Rome 00:35:31.23\00:35:34.73 that he was just going to visit them on his way to Spain. 00:35:34.76\00:35:38.53 For Paul, Rome was just a brief pit stop, 00:35:38.57\00:35:42.67 Rome was the layover but Spain was the destination, why? 00:35:42.70\00:35:46.51 Because a church had already been established in Rome, 00:35:46.57\00:35:50.18 the gospel had already been preached there, 00:35:50.21\00:35:53.42 but Spain was still untouched territory 00:35:53.45\00:35:56.52 and so, Paul's desire for Spain 00:35:56.55\00:35:59.85 is because he was driven and drawn further beyond 00:35:59.89\00:36:03.39 and my Friends, in the same way, 00:36:03.43\00:36:07.00 God is calling us to go to Spain 00:36:07.03\00:36:10.50 to finish His work in this generation, 00:36:10.53\00:36:14.84 to take the gospel commission to the end... 00:36:14.90\00:36:19.17 to its final fulfillment. 00:36:19.21\00:36:20.74 You see, my Brothers and my Sisters, 00:36:20.78\00:36:22.11 Spain represents going outside of our comfort zone for Christ, 00:36:22.14\00:36:25.81 entering that which is not familiar with us, 00:36:25.85\00:36:29.78 moving beyond that which is pleasing to us, 00:36:29.82\00:36:32.42 letting God bring us to the end of ourselves 00:36:32.45\00:36:35.19 that we might have a new beginning in Him 00:36:35.22\00:36:37.93 but tragically... unfortunately 00:36:37.96\00:36:41.30 too many of us have stayed in Rome 00:36:41.33\00:36:44.63 and have never gone to Spain. 00:36:44.67\00:36:47.04 We've stopped short of fulfilling the mission. 00:36:47.07\00:36:50.24 We've fallen short of reaching our full potential. 00:36:50.27\00:36:53.44 Perhaps we've been attracted and distracted 00:36:53.48\00:36:55.94 by the luxuries and the comforts of the Roman palaces 00:36:55.98\00:36:59.21 or the excitement of the Roman games, 00:36:59.48\00:37:02.38 many people have made Rome their home 00:37:02.42\00:37:04.89 and forgotten their mission to Spain, 00:37:04.92\00:37:07.36 we've gone part of the way 00:37:07.39\00:37:08.72 but not all the way in our walk with Jesus, 00:37:08.76\00:37:11.39 we've been content with fulfilling 00:37:11.43\00:37:13.19 only a fraction of the will of God, 00:37:13.23\00:37:15.56 we've been comfortable in complacency 00:37:15.63\00:37:17.93 and lazy and Laodicean luke-warmness, 00:37:17.97\00:37:20.70 we have forgotten that Rome was a part of the journey 00:37:20.74\00:37:23.51 but not the destination 00:37:23.54\00:37:24.94 and that God has something greater and grander 00:37:24.97\00:37:27.48 and more glorious for us in Spain 00:37:27.54\00:37:29.91 and so I want to ask you the question today young people, 00:37:29.94\00:37:32.21 "Where is your Spain?" 00:37:32.25\00:37:33.65 The specific mission that God is calling you to fulfill 00:37:33.68\00:37:39.15 pause... 00:37:39.19\00:37:40.66 and what Roman pleasure is hindering you... stopping you 00:37:40.69\00:37:45.56 from going to Spain? 00:37:45.59\00:37:47.36 Is it a relationship that's more important to you than God? 00:37:47.40\00:37:53.20 Or maybe it's a job... 00:37:53.23\00:37:55.64 a profession that's consuming all your time. 00:37:55.67\00:37:59.87 Maybe it's materialism that's consuming all your space, 00:37:59.91\00:38:05.18 maybe it's worldly pleasure, 00:38:05.21\00:38:07.42 maybe it's your love of ease... your love of comfort 00:38:07.45\00:38:09.98 that stops you from going to Spain 00:38:10.02\00:38:11.99 and that is keeping you in the comfort zone of Rome. 00:38:12.02\00:38:15.09 My Friends, what in the world is holding you back? 00:38:15.12\00:38:18.19 Is it really worth it? 00:38:18.23\00:38:20.66 What is it in your life 00:38:20.70\00:38:23.06 that is stopping you from reaching your full potential... 00:38:23.10\00:38:27.30 that stops you from being all that you can be for the Lord? 00:38:27.34\00:38:31.47 My Friends, somebody said it like this, 00:38:31.81\00:38:33.17 "You can't discover new oceans 00:38:33.21\00:38:35.88 unless you're willing to lose sight of the shore. " 00:38:35.94\00:38:39.61 You see, just like my trip to Kalapana, 00:38:39.65\00:38:43.25 I had to go past the paved easy pathway 00:38:43.28\00:38:46.86 in order to see the fire 00:38:46.89\00:38:49.12 and Friends, if we want to be a World Changer... 00:38:49.16\00:38:52.53 a Heaven Filler... 00:38:52.56\00:38:54.30 a Destiny Transformer... 00:38:54.33\00:38:56.77 we have to be driven and drawn to go further beyond 00:38:56.80\00:39:00.87 and by the grace of God let's do it, what do you say? Amen. 00:39:00.90\00:39:04.91 Audience: Amen. 00:39:04.94\00:39:06.27 How many of you want to be a World Changer? 00:39:06.31\00:39:07.64 Don't you want to be a Heaven Filler 00:39:07.68\00:39:09.71 and a Destiny Transformer? 00:39:09.74\00:39:11.08 Friends, I can't think of anything else to do with life 00:39:11.11\00:39:12.91 that's more fulfilling than that. 00:39:12.95\00:39:14.35 To be able to... 00:39:14.38\00:39:16.25 to be able let God use... use us... 00:39:16.28\00:39:18.65 our time, our talents, our treasures, our testimony, 00:39:18.69\00:39:22.36 to make an eternal impact on somebody else 00:39:22.39\00:39:26.49 and so, my wife and I were in Central California Conference 00:39:26.53\00:39:32.30 for at least 11 years... almost 11 years 00:39:32.33\00:39:34.60 and though we were not formally qualified for the position, 00:39:34.64\00:39:39.41 according to the "short-sighted standards of men" 00:39:39.44\00:39:43.78 I'm so grateful that the Conference 00:39:43.81\00:39:46.21 was very supportive of us, 00:39:46.25\00:39:47.58 they had heaven's vision for true ordination 00:39:47.62\00:39:50.59 and we were there... we had a wonderful time there 00:39:50.62\00:39:53.56 and after conducting over 50 Evangelistic Seminars 00:39:53.59\00:39:56.46 all over the Conference territory, 00:39:56.49\00:39:58.19 we began to feel a growing conviction in our hearts 00:39:58.23\00:40:02.23 that the time was coming for us to go further beyond 00:40:02.26\00:40:06.27 to step out in faith 00:40:06.30\00:40:08.04 and take the message into new territory, 00:40:08.07\00:40:09.97 there was a growing conviction for us to go beyond the borders 00:40:10.01\00:40:14.04 of a single geographical location, 00:40:14.08\00:40:16.24 you see, we had become comfortable 00:40:16.28\00:40:18.41 witnessing in our own but... 00:40:18.45\00:40:19.85 but now, it was time for us to go our Spain... 00:40:19.88\00:40:22.45 to the uttermost parts of the earth. 00:40:22.48\00:40:24.35 Now, we could have remained in the... in the Conference 00:40:24.39\00:40:28.56 as the Conference Evangelist forever... 00:40:28.59\00:40:30.39 I mean, everyone... we experienced great success, 00:40:30.43\00:40:32.99 the Conference was supported, everyone loved us, 00:40:33.03\00:40:35.60 and, by-the-way, they... they could not love us, 00:40:35.63\00:40:37.83 we didn't stay long enough for them to not love us, 00:40:37.90\00:40:40.07 we are in one church for three-four weeks 00:40:40.10\00:40:41.84 and after that, we moved to the next church 00:40:41.90\00:40:43.30 pause... 00:40:43.34\00:40:44.97 and so, it would have been good for us to stay there, 00:40:45.01\00:40:47.48 we could have stayed there but it wouldn't have been best. 00:40:47.51\00:40:50.75 You see, good is the enemy of the best 00:40:50.78\00:40:53.78 and God does not lead everyone in the exact same way 00:40:53.82\00:40:57.72 but for us, at that point, we had this conviction 00:40:57.75\00:41:01.62 that God was driving us further beyond 00:41:01.66\00:41:04.36 and so, after much prayer, Godly counsel 00:41:04.39\00:41:06.96 and with the blessing and support of the Conference, 00:41:07.00\00:41:08.66 we made the decision to resign 00:41:08.70\00:41:10.80 from the comfortable Conference position, 00:41:10.83\00:41:13.17 to step out in faith into new territory. 00:41:13.20\00:41:15.47 We then officially began our own supporting ministry, 00:41:15.50\00:41:19.01 Revelation of Hope Ministries. 00:41:19.04\00:41:21.11 Now, we no longer work for the Conference 00:41:21.14\00:41:23.68 or the Church... we work for God 00:41:23.71\00:41:25.25 but we work with the Conference... with the Church... 00:41:25.28\00:41:28.42 helping our churches to grow and to become revived 00:41:28.45\00:41:31.55 and to grow in Evangelistic Outreach. 00:41:31.59\00:41:34.06 Our goal is to change the population of heaven 00:41:34.09\00:41:37.23 one soul at a time 00:41:37.26\00:41:39.19 by sharing the hope, health and harmony of heaven 00:41:39.23\00:41:42.03 in all the world... 00:41:42.06\00:41:43.47 not in one singular geographical location 00:41:43.53\00:41:45.50 but to the whole world 00:41:45.53\00:41:46.87 and so, we resigned and we moved back home to Hawaii, 00:41:46.90\00:41:49.94 because that's where we were born and raised 00:41:49.97\00:41:51.31 we made Hawaii our home base 00:41:51.34\00:41:52.74 but from there we'd go to the ends of the earth, 00:41:52.77\00:41:54.88 wherever God leads, we would go... 00:41:54.91\00:41:56.54 we are only there for about 00:41:56.58\00:41:57.91 three months out of the year spread out, 00:41:57.95\00:41:59.28 after that we just live the simple mission life 00:41:59.31\00:42:01.28 going wherever the Lord leads, 00:42:01.32\00:42:02.85 my wife and I... we travel together 00:42:02.88\00:42:04.45 to protect our ministry and our marriage. 00:42:04.49\00:42:07.79 Audience: Amen. 00:42:07.82\00:42:09.16 And Friends, when we made that decision, 00:42:09.19\00:42:10.53 for the first three years... 00:42:10.56\00:42:12.76 since three years ago, we made the decision... 00:42:12.79\00:42:15.20 the Lord has taken us to over 30 countries... 00:42:15.26\00:42:17.63 multiple States in the United States 00:42:17.67\00:42:20.14 and tomorrow, we go to Philippines... 00:42:20.17\00:42:22.54 this year, we're heading to Russia and England and Australia 00:42:22.57\00:42:25.41 and Germany... and... 00:42:25.44\00:42:27.21 Friends, it's just amazing to think that... that... 00:42:27.24\00:42:29.84 that God has blessed us and privileged us 00:42:29.91\00:42:31.58 to be a part of this wonderful, prophetic movement of destiny 00:42:31.61\00:42:34.65 to make a difference for all eternity 00:42:34.68\00:42:36.79 is a great privilege. 00:42:36.82\00:42:40.02 I share that to say this 00:42:40.06\00:42:43.22 that in resigning from that comfortable Conference position, 00:42:43.26\00:42:47.06 we were not stepping from one position into another, 00:42:47.10\00:42:51.43 we were stepping out in faith like Abraham, 00:42:51.47\00:42:54.30 not really sure how it was going to work out 00:42:54.34\00:42:57.17 and let me tell you Friends, 00:42:57.21\00:42:58.61 it wasn't easy to turn down the... 00:42:58.67\00:43:00.38 the... the... the financial security of a monthly paycheck. 00:43:00.41\00:43:03.14 It was difficult to say, "Goodbye" 00:43:03.18\00:43:05.45 to that awesome health insurance we had 00:43:05.48\00:43:07.48 because you know with the Conference health insurance... 00:43:07.52\00:43:08.98 we had 50 free massages every single... excuse me... 00:43:09.02\00:43:13.52 30 free massages every year, I wish we had 50... 00:43:13.56\00:43:16.22 and you can be sure that we used every single one of them 00:43:16.26\00:43:19.79 pause... 00:43:19.83\00:43:21.90 and so, it was hard but we knew that if it was God's will, 00:43:21.93\00:43:25.07 it's His bill, amen... 00:43:25.10\00:43:26.43 and though we no longer have health insurance, 00:43:26.47\00:43:29.14 we have heaven's assurance, 00:43:29.17\00:43:30.51 you know what heaven's assurance is? 00:43:30.54\00:43:31.91 Eat right, 00:43:31.94\00:43:33.38 sleep tight, 00:43:33.41\00:43:34.74 don't fight, 00:43:34.78\00:43:36.11 ride a bike, 00:43:36.14\00:43:37.48 go on a hike, 00:43:37.51\00:43:38.85 get sunlight, 00:43:38.91\00:43:40.38 don't be uptight, 00:43:40.42\00:43:41.85 and keep the Lord in sight, amen. 00:43:41.88\00:43:44.39 Audience: Clapping. 00:43:44.42\00:43:47.19 That's heaven's assurance, Friends, 00:43:47.22\00:43:49.22 it keeps you young, 00:43:49.26\00:43:50.59 it keeps you healthy... 00:43:50.63\00:43:51.96 and so, though we no longer have an official title, 00:43:51.99\00:43:55.53 position or Conference paycheck, 00:43:55.56\00:43:57.10 what we do have is the evidence 00:43:57.17\00:43:58.63 that we're in the center of God's will 00:43:58.67\00:44:00.27 and in the protection of His hand 00:44:00.34\00:44:02.00 and we have the sublime peace that passes understanding, 00:44:02.04\00:44:06.07 something that money can't buy 00:44:06.11\00:44:07.48 and man can't give you by the laying on of hands, 00:44:07.51\00:44:10.41 listen, listen, listen Friends, 00:44:10.45\00:44:11.78 a title, a position and a paycheck is nice 00:44:11.81\00:44:15.25 but it's not necessary. 00:44:15.28\00:44:16.62 What is necessary is the faith and willingness 00:44:16.65\00:44:20.06 to trust God and let Him lead you 00:44:20.09\00:44:22.19 knowing that if God is leading you, 00:44:22.22\00:44:23.99 He would never lead you astray... 00:44:24.03\00:44:25.89 that He knows what's best for us 00:44:25.93\00:44:27.93 and He has our best interest in mind 00:44:27.96\00:44:29.93 all the time 00:44:29.96\00:44:31.30 and so, I want to challenge you Friends, 00:44:31.33\00:44:32.73 to live a life without any limits, 00:44:32.77\00:44:34.84 because only a life lived without limits 00:44:34.90\00:44:37.91 is a life lived without regrets 00:44:37.94\00:44:40.98 and how shall we live such a life? 00:44:41.01\00:44:43.98 The book, "The Desire of Ages" page 250 says this, 00:44:44.01\00:44:46.41 "There is NO LIMIT 00:44:46.45\00:44:49.55 to the usefulness of one who, by putting self aside, 00:44:49.58\00:44:54.46 makes room for the working of the Holy Spirit 00:44:54.49\00:44:56.89 upon his heart, 00:44:56.93\00:44:58.29 and lives a Jim Elliot, 00:50:35.80\00:50:38.77 some of you have heard this story before, 00:50:38.80\00:50:41.74 he was a gifted man that had a successful career 00:50:41.77\00:50:45.81 of ministry ahead of him, 00:50:45.84\00:50:47.18 after graduating, he had the option of doing ministry 00:50:47.21\00:50:51.08 here in the United States, 00:50:51.11\00:50:52.45 this was in the 1950s but that was a good option 00:50:52.48\00:50:55.32 but for Jim, it wasn't best, 00:50:55.35\00:50:56.69 you see, he considered the churches of the United States, 00:50:56.72\00:50:59.05 "Well-fed churches" 00:50:59.12\00:51:00.66 and so, the burden that got laid upon his heart 00:51:00.69\00:51:04.09 was to go further beyond. 00:51:04.13\00:51:06.39 His prayer was this, "God, I pray Thee, 00:51:06.43\00:51:10.07 light these idle sticks of my life 00:51:10.10\00:51:13.70 and may I burn for Thee. 00:51:13.74\00:51:16.91 Consume my life, my God, for it is Thine. 00:51:16.94\00:51:20.21 I seek not a long life, 00:51:20.24\00:51:22.18 but a full one, like you, Lord Jesus. " 00:51:22.24\00:51:25.45 And so, the fire of God compelled Jim 00:51:25.48\00:51:27.88 and four other missionary couples 00:51:27.92\00:51:30.29 to go further beyond... 00:51:30.32\00:51:31.65 their names, Jim and Elisabeth Elliot 00:51:31.69\00:51:34.39 Nate and Marge Saint, Roger and Barbara Youderian, 00:51:34.42\00:51:37.69 Ed and Marilou McCulley, Pete and Olive Fleming 00:51:37.73\00:51:40.76 these men and their wives left the United States 00:51:40.80\00:51:43.60 and they made their way to the jungles of Ecuador. 00:51:43.67\00:51:46.63 Their burden was to reach the fierce and dangerous 00:51:46.67\00:51:49.60 Waodoni tribe... 00:51:49.64\00:51:50.97 a tribe that settled disputes with spears. 00:51:51.01\00:51:54.41 For them, there's no such thing as diplomacy or talking it out, 00:51:54.44\00:51:58.01 if they had a disagreement, 00:51:58.05\00:51:59.38 they would murder each other with spears, 00:51:59.41\00:52:01.48 they had the highest murder rate per capita 00:52:01.52\00:52:03.85 they had no outside contact with the world, 00:52:03.89\00:52:06.15 and everyone was afraid of them 00:52:06.19\00:52:08.12 and so when Jim heard about this unreached tribe, 00:52:08.16\00:52:11.39 he was not moved by the danger, 00:52:11.43\00:52:14.66 but he was moved by the fire of heaven 00:52:14.70\00:52:16.83 to share the warmth of the gospel with these people 00:52:16.87\00:52:20.20 and so they devised... they moved there to Ecuador 00:52:20.24\00:52:23.54 and they started to devise a plan 00:52:23.57\00:52:25.04 to win the confidence of the locals, 00:52:25.07\00:52:26.47 so they would fly over the tribe, deep in the jungle 00:52:26.51\00:52:29.91 on an airplane and they would drop care packages of food 00:52:29.94\00:52:33.31 and tools and other gifts for over several months 00:52:33.35\00:52:36.38 trying to win the confidence of the people 00:52:36.42\00:52:38.05 and finally the day would come when they would land the plane 00:52:38.09\00:52:41.66 and make contact with this fierce and dangerous tribe. 00:52:41.69\00:52:44.66 Everyone was praying for their success 00:52:44.69\00:52:46.76 and God answered their prayers, 00:52:46.80\00:52:48.43 this is actually a picture of that first encounter they had 00:52:48.46\00:52:51.83 with this unreached tribe, 00:52:51.87\00:52:53.20 God had answered their prayers 00:52:53.23\00:52:55.17 and they were rejoicing in Jesus 00:52:55.20\00:52:57.07 but when they went back the second time, 00:52:57.11\00:53:01.04 all five of those missionaries were murdered... 00:53:01.08\00:53:07.55 they were speared to death just like Jesus 00:53:07.58\00:53:11.49 they were brutally murdered by those 00:53:11.52\00:53:15.36 who they were trying to save 00:53:15.42\00:53:16.96 and every single one of those five brothers 00:53:16.99\00:53:19.19 were in their 20s... 00:53:19.23\00:53:21.06 they knew the risk... 00:53:21.10\00:53:22.86 they understood the danger... 00:53:22.90\00:53:25.40 and yet they were willing to get out of the comfort zone of Rome 00:53:25.43\00:53:29.44 to go to Spain. 00:53:29.47\00:53:31.17 My Friends, listen, 00:53:31.21\00:53:32.81 God did not guarantee that there would be no pain in Spain. 00:53:32.84\00:53:42.35 Just like Jim and just like Jesus. 00:53:42.38\00:53:45.69 At times, we will experience pain 00:53:45.72\00:53:49.02 when we go to Spain. 00:53:49.06\00:53:51.19 If not physical pain, for sure, growing pains, 00:53:51.23\00:53:55.96 but through the pain people will... 00:53:56.00\00:54:00.14 will be able to see that divine flame 00:54:00.17\00:54:04.24 and they will come to know of Jesus' mighty name... 00:54:04.27\00:54:09.64 the loving Lord who came to remove the shame 00:54:09.71\00:54:14.05 and so, my brothers and sisters 00:54:14.08\00:54:15.48 despite the pain, let's go to Spain... 00:54:15.52\00:54:18.19 out of the comfort zone for the cause of Christ. 00:54:18.22\00:54:23.56 Jim was that missionary martyr who said these words, 00:54:23.59\00:54:27.36 and I quote, here's what Jim Elliot said, 00:54:27.40\00:54:31.07 "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep 00:54:31.10\00:54:34.80 to gain what he cannot lose. " 00:54:34.84\00:54:37.57 Jim and his friends lived by the same... 00:54:37.61\00:54:40.51 they gave their lives for the cause of Christ, 00:54:40.54\00:54:43.58 they gave themselves completely away to be used of God, 00:54:43.61\00:54:46.55 they found a cause for which they were willing to die, 00:54:46.58\00:54:49.48 listen Friends, a life without a cause 00:54:49.52\00:54:51.65 is a life without effect 00:54:51.69\00:54:53.22 and their life was not without effect, 00:54:53.25\00:54:55.46 their death was not in vain 00:54:55.52\00:54:57.46 for in losing their lives, they were able to find it. 00:54:57.49\00:55:01.13 Now let me tell you the end of the story. 00:55:01.16\00:55:05.13 Their widow wives and children continued to work 00:55:05.17\00:55:10.94 amongst the tribe that had murdered their husbands 00:55:10.97\00:55:14.64 and their fathers. 00:55:14.68\00:55:16.11 The widowed wives and their children continued 00:55:16.14\00:55:18.41 and they established relationships 00:55:18.45\00:55:19.88 over a period of time with the Waodoni Tribe, 00:55:19.91\00:55:21.95 they actually became a part of the tribe, 00:55:21.98\00:55:24.02 they moved in with the tribe 00:55:24.09\00:55:26.19 and these widowed mothers 00:55:26.22\00:55:28.29 actually raised their children in that tribe 00:55:28.32\00:55:30.99 and when they won their confidence, 00:55:31.03\00:55:33.76 they started to contextualize the gospel... 00:55:33.80\00:55:35.86 they talked to the Waodoni about the Creator 00:55:35.90\00:55:38.10 that has a huge hut in the heavens, 00:55:38.13\00:55:40.94 and that this Creator has left a trail through the jungle 00:55:40.97\00:55:44.21 leading to that hut 00:55:44.24\00:55:45.64 and along that trail there are carvings on the tree 00:55:45.67\00:55:48.74 that shows them the way 00:55:48.78\00:55:50.11 and one of the carvings says, "Thou shalt not kill.
