Now if we're not going to
lean on our own understanding

step one. Hope is step two.

hope means eager expectation.

As we trust in the
Lord's faithfulness,

promises are ours in Christ,

expect Him to perform

The only writer that
tried to distill Bible teachings

to a definition of faith
was the author of Hebrews

in Chapter 11:1 where he says,
"Now faith is the assurance,

the confirmation, the
title deed of the things

we hope for, being the
proof of things we do not see

and the conviction of
their reality faith perceiving

not revealed to the senses."

You know, the author
of Hebrews here proclaims

that faith is the
assurance of things hoped for.

And the evidence
of what we do not see.

The Greek word for
assurance is hupostasis,

a word that was commonly used
in the ancient business document

which represented the
guarantee of the transaction.

In the vocabulary of our culture

we would say
hupostasis is a title deed.

So let me ask
you, if a wealthy man

gives you the title
deed to his European estate,

rightful owner, right?

Although you may not have seen
your new mansion in acreage,

You have proof.

deed which is the basis

for your assurance and the
guarantee of the transaction.

had this title deed.

He had absolute
assurance in God.

And Paul writes
in Romans 4:19-21,

not weak in faith,

that he did not
waver at the promise of God

through unbelief, but that
he was strengthened in faith,

Paul portrays unbelief

should result in a profession

of what we believe.

Of course, Christians
speak of the profession of faith

one makes during
the ritual of baptism.

Yet faith is evidenced
to an even larger degree

by what we say in our
everyday conversations.

When speaking with someone
who is in the midst of a trial

you can instantly
identify their level of faith

by the words they utter.

The mourner who speaks
with self pitting murmuring

is not acting in faith.

Are you familiar with the fable

called "Chicken Little?"

In this storyline the

He cries out as if the sky

who always dramatizes their
problems when speaking of them?

You know that they
are not speaking in faith.

What escapes our lips evidences

our trust and
our hope in the Lord.

Are you holding fast to
the title deed of His promises?

Let's look at two
Bible verses that confirm

Paul writes to the Roman saying,

our utterance is in unbelief.

We are in essence refusing
to place our trust in the Lord

and we're
complaining against Him.

You know, God
gave Moses a message,

a very severe
message for the people

whose lack of
trust and hope in Him

cause them to
murmur in unbelief.

The Lord said in
Numbers 14:27 and 28, he said,

"How long shall I bear
with this evil congregation

who complains against me?

I've heard their complaints

which the children of
Israel make against me."

And He says, "Say to them,
'As I live,' says the Lord,

'just as you have
spoken in my hearing,

with their lack of faith

clarify this thought,

in the spirit of faith

we cannot acknowledge

the very real
circumstances of our life.

It simply means that we
acknowledge our trust in God

and with eager expectation
we claim His promises

knowing that His power is
greater than our problems.

By the weapon of faith we
can pull down the stronghold

speaking in the spirit of faith

take our thoughts captive

What you speak into
your life is important.

children's life is important.

Speak by speaking God's word

and He will
reprogram your thoughts.

You will posses
a spirit of faith

affirmation of your faith

Faith comes by hearing.

I think what He's
saying here is that obstacles

are nothing more than
stepping stones to people

who speak with
the spirit of faith.

Now the fifth step in
developing a victorious faith
00:17:19.60\00:17:22.54
might surprise
you, but it's critical.

It's actions of obedience.

This is an
absolutely essential step

to achieve victorious
faith, actually to reaching

any level of faith because
we are told in James 2:17,

"Thus also faith by itself,
00:17:42.76\00:17:45.89
if it does not
have works, is dead."

Faith that does not
result in works is stillborn.
00:17:50.40\00:17:55.37
It's dead.

Believing but not
acting upon our beliefs

can be compared to the
same mental assent of the demons

that believe in God and tremble.

We cannot advance in
faith without personal action.

You know, Paul
writes in Romans 1:5 that,

for obedience to the faith."

That is why Paul admonished
the Philippian Christians,

who were saved by grace,
to workout your own salvation.

But then he added that this work

should not be in
personal strength.

For he wrote, "it
is God who works in you

both to will and to
do His good pleasure."

Paul was Christ's
hand selected evangelist

for the gospel of grace.

He knew that grace
included the good works

that God had planned for us.
