answer the Bible gives.

Today, we will look

being a sanctification seeker.

On His last occasion to teach
the multitudes in the temple,

Jesus rebuked the
religious leaders,

identifying them as hypocrites
and blind guides for their sake

and the sake of
their traditions.

They had set
aside the word of God,
00:01:53.26\00:01:56.05
and set forth useless teachings.
00:01:56.08\00:01:58.75
These teachings hindered
the people's spiritual progress.

Christ issued a
final scathing indictment.

saying,

"See your house is
left to you desolate,

for I say to you, you shall

'Blessed is He who comes

Now according to
the cultural tradition,

attended by his groomsmen

arrived late in the
night to retrieve his bride.

The bride had already
taken the necessary steps

to prepare herself and
longingly awaited for her love.

The bridesmaids
kept watch for the groom,

ready to rush out, and to greet
him with lamps in their hands.

his pathway to the bride

procession to the wedding feast,

long wait in the darkness.

the groom was delayed.

Suddenly at the midnight
hour a shout pierced the air.

So startled, the
ten sleeping virgins

The bridegroom rejected
these who were strangers to him

And that is the sad
conclusion of the parable.

of the rich symbolic meaning

This clearly identified
the church as His bride,

Christ our bridegroom.

By portraying
Himself as the bridegroom,

Christ implied He was God.

We often find in
the Old Testament

that God was
portrayed as the bridegroom.

So the church is in the Bible,

throughout the Bible
is repeatedly symbolized

by a virtuous
woman, a chaste virgin

who is not defiled
by other relationships.

Christ promises to
return to claim His bride,

and completed her
purpose of sharing

the gospel of
grace with all nations.

The ten virgin bridesmaids,
to which Jesus referred,

represented church members,

two different
classes of believers

in the gospel of grace.

Their lamps are
symbol of the word of God.

And the oil
symbolizes the Holy Spirit,

which we also see
in Zechariah Chapter 4.

By inference the
oil, also symbolizes

the character of the virgins
that the wise virgins obtained,

through the Holy
Spirit's influence.

represented the
vessel of the heart.

What is the
meaning of the caution

that Christ issued in this
parable of the second coming?

important point. It is critical.

Jesus did not
distinguish between

the two classes of
bridesmaids, the attendants.

So this leads us to believe

virgins were not hypocrites,

members of His church

whose spiritual
progress had been stifled.

familiar with the theory

of the gospel of grace,

but they did not
recognize their need of

and their dependence
upon the Holy Spirit.

I reflected on this truth
and was astonished to realize

an amazing aspect of
this parable I had never seen.

Jesus represents and presents

sleeping virgins,

as previously encountering
a personal experience

with the grace of God.

The foolish virgins
represent those who receive

only the supply of
grace which provides

the first stage of
salvation, justification.

They hear the good
news of salvation by grace.

They repent and accept Christ's
atoning sacrifice on the cross,

professing His
name, but refusing to tap

pipeline for sanctification.

These foolish ones
never learned to depend on God

for the fullness of

It's either as a result of
their fixed rebellious attitude,

consequence of a false teaching

They have what we
call head knowledge,

but not heart knowledge.

Yet foolishly, they feel secure
with the lamp of profession--

their profession of
faith in their hands.

Now the wise
virgins stand for those

who accept Christ as
Savior and Lord of their lives

and following their
experience with justification.

They welcome the
wonders of God's grace

to operate on their hearts,

for the second stage of
salvation, sanctification.

They receive the
gift of the Holy Sprit

and develop
Christ like character,

growing in grace,
and steadily progressing

along the path of eternal life.

Now obviously, this
parable does not present these

who had a real
relationship with Him

is being perfected in character.

We can conclude this because
the scripture says "They slept."

The sleep that settled over all,

at the darkness
of the midnight hour,

represents a certain
spiritual weariness and apathy.

When great
spiritual darkness settles in,

over our world
at the end of time,

still the wise
virgins are depicted

as having hearts that awaken,

from which flow the issue
of God's love, light and life.

Now at a glance it
seems rather selfish at first

that they would not share
their oil with the others.

But how could they
possibly share and parcel out,

part of their
own character traits,

rather with the
sufficiency of God's grace

They wisely rise to the occasion

When the end comes,
those who are unwise

of His followers to come.

to taste of God's grace

It is a common question.

Paul provides an answer

The idea of pursuing holiness

recoil emotionally,

perhaps because we
envision rigid requirements

and strenuous work on our part.

Possibly, it's
because we have encountered

so-called holiness movements,

in which harsh people
take radical measures,

resulting only in
rigid outward appearances,

and appalling
actions without affecting

an inward
development of genuine love

and Christlike character.

You know what Jesus would
call those? Whitewashed tombs.

That's what He
calls such hypocrites.

"Pursuing holiness is
simply growing in grace."

Please don't allow any
false notion to deter you

from becoming a
"sanctification seeker."

It is God's will for you.

It is one of His
greatest blessings.

And by His grace He will perform
a work of holiness in you.

This is so important for
Hebrews 12:14 tells us that,

never be able to see the Lord."

The scripture reads this way,

Salvation is by God's grace,

but it demands
human cooperation.

We must strive to tap into

when the bridegroom returns.

Scripture clearly reveals
Christ is returning for a bride,

who has made herself ready.

A bride who has
