Hello, I'm Shelley Quinn. 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.76 Coming up next on "The Grace Pipeline," 00:00:02.76\00:00:04.70 we will answer the question, is God involved in a cover-up? 00:00:04.70\00:00:09.10 Please join us now and learn how you can stand 00:00:09.10\00:00:11.84 before God just as if you had never sinned. 00:00:11.84\00:00:15.61 Welcome to "The Grace Pipeline." 00:00:35.83\00:00:37.97 In our last program we considered how our God 00:00:37.97\00:00:41.10 is a just God, perfect in all His ways. 00:00:41.10\00:00:45.51 His judgments against sinners are sure and righteous, 00:00:45.51\00:00:49.04 but His mercy is shown in that, 00:00:49.04\00:00:51.88 He also is the justifier of mankind, 00:00:51.88\00:00:55.42 offering us salvation by grace. 00:00:55.42\00:00:58.19 We also examined how an angel of God 00:00:58.19\00:01:00.96 created in perfection allowed his selfish pride 00:01:00.96\00:01:04.43 and lust for power to turn him into the devil 00:01:04.43\00:01:07.83 and started the great controversy 00:01:07.83\00:01:09.63 between good and evil. 00:01:09.63\00:01:11.40 When Satan lodged lying accusations against our Creator 00:01:11.40\00:01:16.07 and forced to rebellion, God limited his response 00:01:16.07\00:01:19.44 to casting him and his followers out of heaven. 00:01:19.44\00:01:22.54 For a limited time, the great controversy 00:01:22.54\00:01:25.01 between good and evil now rages on earth. 00:01:25.01\00:01:28.15 When God's just character has been proven 00:01:28.15\00:01:30.95 beyond doubt to all of His created beings, 00:01:30.95\00:01:34.29 angels and humans alike. 00:01:34.29\00:01:36.22 He will cut short the sin experience 00:01:36.22\00:01:38.83 by the second coming of Christ. 00:01:38.83\00:01:41.36 Today, we will look back to the mercy seat 00:01:41.36\00:01:44.43 of the ancient sanctuary and learn 00:01:44.43\00:01:46.77 that the saints of the Old Testament 00:01:46.77\00:01:48.74 were saved by grace just as we are. 00:01:48.74\00:01:51.57 If you're following along in the series 00:01:51.57\00:01:53.61 companion book also title "The Grace Pipeline," 00:01:53.61\00:01:56.85 we are beginning on page 50 of Chapter 4. 00:01:56.85\00:02:01.55 How do you see God? 00:02:01.55\00:02:03.75 Is your image of Him one of a stern taskmaster, 00:02:03.75\00:02:07.79 who is just watching from His throne, 00:02:07.79\00:02:10.23 eager to meet out punishment on wrong doers? 00:02:10.23\00:02:13.53 You know, unfortunately some people think that God of love 00:02:13.53\00:02:17.30 of the New Testament is in sharp contrast 00:02:17.30\00:02:19.97 to the image of God in the Old Testament. 00:02:19.97\00:02:22.84 If you've ever thought like that, perhaps because like me, 00:02:22.84\00:02:27.11 you are taught such nonsense. 00:02:27.11\00:02:29.38 I challenge you to take off those biased blinders 00:02:29.38\00:02:33.15 and read the Old Testament. 00:02:33.15\00:02:35.52 God is the same yesterday, today and forever, 00:02:35.52\00:02:38.95 He does not change. 00:02:38.95\00:02:40.36 The God of love written about in the New Testament 00:02:40.36\00:02:43.32 loves the sinner but hates the sin. 00:02:43.32\00:02:46.16 He is still a God of judgment. 00:02:46.16\00:02:48.36 In the Old Testament, you will see constant evidences 00:02:48.36\00:02:51.60 of the love of God and reflections of it 00:02:51.60\00:02:54.60 even in His most stern warnings against sin. 00:02:54.60\00:02:57.97 Listen to this precious passage 00:02:57.97\00:03:01.01 from the Old Testament found in Micah 7:18. 00:03:01.01\00:03:05.48 "Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity 00:03:05.48\00:03:09.38 and passing over the transgression 00:03:09.38\00:03:11.35 of the remnant of His heritage? 00:03:11.35\00:03:13.79 He does not retain His anger forever, 00:03:13.79\00:03:16.73 because He delights in mercy." 00:03:16.73\00:03:20.73 The Bible teaches us that God is love. 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.70 He is not just loving in action, 00:03:23.70\00:03:26.30 His very nature and essence is love. 00:03:26.30\00:03:29.57 And love delights in mercy. 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.14 Rebellious human kind was held captive by sin. 00:03:32.14\00:03:36.01 We were on the auction block so to speak, as slaves of sin. 00:03:36.01\00:03:40.02 God's Holy law demanded justice for sin. 00:03:40.02\00:03:43.02 In Romans 6:23, the Apostle tells us, 00:03:43.02\00:03:45.22 "That the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God 00:03:45.22\00:03:50.09 is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:03:50.09\00:03:53.16 With relentless love and by the precious blood 00:03:53.16\00:03:55.90 of His only begotten Son, 00:03:55.90\00:03:57.73 God provided the ransom payment to redeem us. 00:03:57.73\00:04:00.70 He purchased our freedom from sin's bondage 00:04:00.70\00:04:04.54 through the death of Jesus Christ. 00:04:04.54\00:04:06.84 And that's why Peter could write in 1 Peter 1:18, 19. 00:04:06.84\00:04:11.35 "That we can know that you were not redeemed 00:04:11.35\00:04:14.42 with corruptible things, like silver or gold, 00:04:14.42\00:04:18.05 from your aimless conduct received by tradition 00:04:18.05\00:04:20.59 from your fathers, but you were redeemed 00:04:20.59\00:04:24.36 with the precious blood of Christ, 00:04:24.36\00:04:26.83 as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." 00:04:26.83\00:04:32.83 In an act of a mercy and grace, God sent Christ 00:04:32.83\00:04:36.84 to win back humanity's love and loyalty. 00:04:36.84\00:04:39.67 Jesus willingly gave Himself on our behalf. 00:04:39.67\00:04:42.98 He stood in our place as the perfect substitute 00:04:42.98\00:04:47.65 and Christ sacrifice satisfied the demands for justice 00:04:47.65\00:04:52.12 that were required by the holy law of our loving God. 00:04:52.12\00:04:56.06 Christ became the propitiation for our sins. 00:04:56.06\00:05:00.76 As is written in 1 John 2:1, 2. 00:05:00.76\00:05:06.47 "My little children, these things I write to you, 00:05:06.47\00:05:10.34 so that you may not sin. 00:05:10.34\00:05:12.94 And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, 00:05:12.94\00:05:16.24 Jesus Christ the righteous. 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.41 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, 00:05:18.41\00:05:22.42 and not for ours only but also for the whole world." 00:05:22.42\00:05:26.82 And it is written again in 1 John 4:9, 10. 00:05:26.82\00:05:31.23 "In this the love of God was manifested toward us, 00:05:31.23\00:05:35.46 that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, 00:05:35.46\00:05:38.83 that we might live through Him. 00:05:38.83\00:05:41.67 In this is love, not that we loved God, 00:05:41.67\00:05:45.37 but that He loved us and sent His Son 00:05:45.37\00:05:48.51 to be the propitiation for our sins." 00:05:48.51\00:05:53.85 Only the author of Romans and the author of Hebrews, 00:05:53.85\00:05:57.89 whom I believe may both be attributed to the Apostle Paul, 00:05:57.89\00:06:01.99 also used this word in the New Testament, 00:06:01.99\00:06:05.83 propitiation, it's one of those words 00:06:05.83\00:06:08.13 that many of us stumble over 00:06:08.13\00:06:10.27 when we read and just keep pressing forward 00:06:10.27\00:06:12.43 without stopping to investigate it. 00:06:12.43\00:06:14.60 But to understand this word is to understand 00:06:14.60\00:06:18.87 why John the Baptist could exclaim 00:06:18.87\00:06:21.41 when he saw Jesus behold the Lamb of God, 00:06:21.41\00:06:24.81 who takes away the sins of the world. 00:06:24.81\00:06:29.45 Propitiation is another of those valuable words in scripture 00:06:29.45\00:06:33.56 that to appreciate we must first learn to define. 00:06:33.56\00:06:37.16 It is the very foundation for our justification by grace, 00:06:37.16\00:06:41.56 which means the acquittal of our sin 00:06:41.56\00:06:43.73 and the declaration of our innocence. 00:06:43.73\00:06:46.17 Propitiation is such a vital aspect of the Savior's ministry 00:06:46.17\00:06:50.77 that we should strive to understand it. 00:06:50.77\00:06:53.34 It's a difficult word to define, but bear with me 00:06:53.34\00:06:56.95 as I do my best to explain it. 00:06:56.95\00:06:59.31 You know, in Texas we have this saying 00:06:59.31\00:07:01.22 that when there is a difficult task at hand 00:07:01.22\00:07:03.62 we call it, "heavy ploughing." 00:07:03.62\00:07:05.39 Well, that's what we're about to do. 00:07:05.39\00:07:07.26 We're going to plough through trying to define propitiation, 00:07:07.26\00:07:10.99 so that we can breakthrough to the other side of it. 00:07:10.99\00:07:14.30 Why is this necessary? 00:07:14.30\00:07:15.90 What benefit is it to you? 00:07:15.90\00:07:17.77 When you understand propitiation, 00:07:17.77\00:07:20.27 you will gain a greater understanding 00:07:20.27\00:07:22.44 of salvation by grace and an expanded appreciation 00:07:22.44\00:07:26.61 of the atoning work of Christ. 00:07:26.61\00:07:29.08 In a symbolic sense, Jesus propitiation means, 00:07:29.08\00:07:34.58 "to cover sin" and is closely related to the concept 00:07:34.58\00:07:40.39 of atonement, which means "to cover over." 00:07:40.39\00:07:45.43 Propitiation represents the atonement of a merciful God 00:07:45.43\00:07:49.93 who covers sin so that humanity can receive reconciliation. 00:07:49.93\00:07:55.17 That just simply means that we receive 00:07:55.17\00:07:57.44 a change of attitude to make us friendly 00:07:57.44\00:07:59.91 toward God and restore us to Him. 00:07:59.91\00:08:02.11 When we accept Christ as our propitiation, 00:08:02.11\00:08:05.38 our sins are remitted and we are reinstated 00:08:05.38\00:08:08.45 into the family of God. 00:08:08.45\00:08:10.25 Now for a clear understanding of propitiation, 00:08:10.25\00:08:14.76 we must look back to the mercy seat 00:08:14.76\00:08:17.96 that covered God's throne of grace in the earthly sanctuary. 00:08:17.96\00:08:21.70 Allow me to set the same. 00:08:21.70\00:08:24.17 Immediately after God spoke the Ten Commandments 00:08:24.17\00:08:27.14 from Mount Sinai to His people, He made a special 00:08:27.14\00:08:30.27 temporary covenant with the nation of Israel. 00:08:30.27\00:08:33.27 Found in Exodus Chapter 20, and it begins with verse 22, 00:08:33.27\00:08:38.25 and it goes through Chapter 23 and verse 33. 00:08:38.25\00:08:41.82 And this dictated a series of civil, 00:08:41.82\00:08:44.39 social and religious laws to Moses. 00:08:44.39\00:08:47.52 Then Moses wrote the words of the Lord 00:08:47.52\00:08:50.66 in the Book of the Covenant, and afterward 00:08:50.66\00:08:53.73 God wrote the Ten Commandments with His own finger. 00:08:53.73\00:08:57.60 This is-these words are the only portion of scripture 00:08:57.60\00:09:00.77 that were hand-recorded by God. 00:09:00.77\00:09:03.41 Then God said in Exodus 25:8, 9. 00:09:03.41\00:09:10.51 "And let them make me a sanctuary 00:09:10.51\00:09:12.88 that I may dwell among them. 00:09:12.88\00:09:14.92 According to all that I show you, that is the pattern 00:09:14.92\00:09:19.09 of the tabernacle and the pattern of all 00:09:19.09\00:09:21.69 of its furnishings just so shall you make it." 00:09:21.69\00:09:26.56 Under the old covenant, God poured out 00:09:26.56\00:09:30.03 the grace of forgiveness in salvation to humanity 00:09:30.03\00:09:33.23 through the divine sanctuary services. 00:09:33.23\00:09:36.91 Sacrificed animals that stood in as substitutes 00:09:36.91\00:09:40.64 secured forgiveness for sinners. 00:09:40.64\00:09:43.24 The system of ceremonial laws 00:09:43.24\00:09:45.08 established in Exodus and Leviticus, which is called 00:09:45.08\00:09:48.55 the Book of the Priesthood, 00:09:48.55\00:09:50.72 was as Hebrews 10:1 refers to it, 00:09:50.72\00:09:53.86 just a shadow of good things to come. 00:09:53.86\00:09:56.49 This pointed to Christ, who is the substance, 00:09:56.49\00:09:59.56 the body that cast the shadow. 00:09:59.56\00:10:02.56 In the New Testament, in Hebrews 9:1-28, 00:10:02.56\00:10:08.17 provides a brief sketch 00:10:08.17\00:10:09.94 of the earthly sanctuary services. 00:10:09.94\00:10:12.47 And it summarizes the rituals of the priesthood 00:10:12.47\00:10:15.54 and the crucial role of animal sacrifices 00:10:15.54\00:10:18.55 in the ceremonial system. 00:10:18.55\00:10:20.55 What I'd like to do is just take a moment 00:10:20.55\00:10:22.85 to review some highlights of this passage of scripture. 00:10:22.85\00:10:26.45 We find in verse 6 that it was recorded each day 00:10:26.45\00:10:32.03 the priest carried out their ministry for the people 00:10:32.03\00:10:35.36 in the outer court and within the Holy Place. 00:10:35.36\00:10:39.37 The first compartment of the sanctuary 00:10:39.37\00:10:41.47 was called the Holy Place. 00:10:41.47\00:10:43.24 So the priests maintained daily sacrifices to confirm 00:10:43.24\00:10:47.38 the nation's consecration to God 00:10:47.38\00:10:49.98 and their constant dependence upon Him for atonement from sin. 00:10:49.98\00:10:54.92 They also set forth, guilt, sin and trespass offerings 00:10:54.92\00:10:59.49 on behalf of individuals. 00:10:59.49\00:11:01.46 And the death of the animals demonstrated 00:11:01.46\00:11:04.03 that sinners deserve to die, but were reconciled to God 00:11:04.03\00:11:08.33 by transferring their sins to a sacrificed victim 00:11:08.33\00:11:12.37 that served as a substitute. 00:11:12.37\00:11:15.80 By grace the blood of the substitute 00:11:15.80\00:11:18.84 made atonement for the soul. 00:11:18.84\00:11:21.18 This is an important point. 00:11:21.18\00:11:23.04 So let's take note of what Leviticus 17:11 says, 00:11:23.04\00:11:27.85 "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, 00:11:27.85\00:11:30.72 and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement 00:11:30.72\00:11:33.99 for your souls, for it is the blood 00:11:33.99\00:11:37.09 that makes atonement for the soul." 00:11:37.09\00:11:40.60 The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus blood serves 00:11:40.60\00:11:45.23 as atonement for the sin of humanity. 00:11:45.23\00:11:48.47 Now, let's continue in Hebrews 9, 00:11:48.47\00:11:50.97 and I'll summarize verses 2-5 for you. 00:11:50.97\00:11:54.98 In this Chapter that provides the overview 00:11:54.98\00:11:59.21 of the sanctuary and its furnishings. 00:11:59.21\00:12:01.75 Now, located in the inner sanctuary 00:12:01.75\00:12:05.32 which was called the Holiest of Holy 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.69 and sometimes it was identified as the Holy of Holies 00:12:07.69\00:12:11.36 or the Most Holy Place. 00:12:11.36\00:12:13.29 Inside there was the Ark of the Covenant 00:12:13.29\00:12:15.93 with the mercy seat, and this symbolized 00:12:15.93\00:12:18.60 God's throne of grace. 00:12:18.60\00:12:20.57 It was here that the visible presence, 00:12:20.57\00:12:23.17 the Shekinah Glory of God filled the space 00:12:23.17\00:12:26.41 between the cherubim and here God communed 00:12:26.41\00:12:30.45 with people, and He heard their prayers. 00:12:30.45\00:12:33.11 And from His mercy seat, the God of grace 00:12:33.11\00:12:36.02 extended forgiveness of sins. 00:12:36.02\00:12:39.05 Now in verse 4 of Hebrews, it explains that the contents 00:12:39.05\00:12:44.99 of what were inside the Ark and inside this sacred chest 00:12:44.99\00:12:49.70 were the golden pot of manna. 00:12:49.70\00:12:51.83 That was a memorial of God's supernatural provision. 00:12:51.83\00:12:56.17 Also was the rod of Aaron which was dead then budded, 00:12:56.17\00:13:00.98 and it was a sign given to verify that Aaron 00:13:00.98\00:13:04.68 had the right to serve as high priest. 00:13:04.68\00:13:07.52 This pointed to Christ, our branch 00:13:07.52\00:13:10.35 as the Old Testament calls him, who was dead 00:13:10.35\00:13:13.52 then resurrected with new life to serve 00:13:13.52\00:13:16.29 as our only high priest in heaven. 00:13:16.29\00:13:19.23 Also inside the sacred chest 00:13:19.23\00:13:21.16 were the two tablets of the Ten Commandments. 00:13:21.16\00:13:24.03 And these represented the twin pillars that support 00:13:24.03\00:13:27.70 the moral foundation upon which God's government rests. 00:13:27.70\00:13:33.17 Now in verse 5, it tells us that the covering was- 00:13:33.17\00:13:40.35 of the Ark was a lid that was called the mercy seat. 00:13:40.35\00:13:44.19 And the literal meaning of the Hebrew word 00:13:44.19\00:13:46.49 for mercy seat meant to wipeout or cover over. 00:13:46.49\00:13:51.26 God's people identified the Most Holy Place 00:13:51.26\00:13:55.06 as the place of the mercy seat. 00:13:55.06\00:13:57.27 The high priest and He alone entered 00:13:57.27\00:13:59.57 the Most Holy Place once a year, on the Day of Atonement, 00:13:59.57\00:14:03.17 which you may have heard it called Yom Kippur. 00:14:03.17\00:14:06.17 On this Day of Judgment, he made atonement 00:14:06.17\00:14:09.54 for the sanctuary and all the people. 00:14:09.54\00:14:12.35 For the congregation, he would sprinkle 00:14:12.35\00:14:14.82 the atoning blood of the authorized sacrifices 00:14:14.82\00:14:17.29 on the mercy seat, first for himself 00:14:17.29\00:14:19.92 and then for the collective errors 00:14:19.92\00:14:22.39 and sins of ignorance of the nation. 00:14:22.39\00:14:24.63 As verse 7 attest. Let's read it. 00:14:24.63\00:14:28.36 "But into the second part the high priest 00:14:28.36\00:14:31.07 went alone once a year, not without blood, 00:14:31.07\00:14:35.30 which he offered for himself and for the people's sins 00:14:35.30\00:14:39.74 committed in ignorance." 00:14:39.74\00:14:43.18 These services at this most sacred of all ceremonial days, 00:14:43.18\00:14:47.78 represented cleansing from sin and reconciliation to God 00:14:47.78\00:14:52.69 through the atonement our covering over by blood. 00:14:52.69\00:14:55.89 This pointed to Christ's atoning sacrifice on the cross, 00:14:55.89\00:15:00.33 an occasion of solemn nationwide repentance. 00:15:00.33\00:15:04.07 The Day of Atonement eventually ended for the pennated with joy. 00:15:04.07\00:15:09.30 By grace they received forgiveness 00:15:09.30\00:15:11.91 and a fresh start with God. 00:15:11.91\00:15:14.54 You know, the author of Hebrews explains in verse 8, 00:15:14.54\00:15:18.58 that the limitation of entering God's presence only once a year 00:15:18.58\00:15:23.49 indicated that the way into the holiest of all 00:15:23.49\00:15:26.72 was not yet made manifest 00:15:26.72\00:15:28.32 while the first tabernacle was still standing. 00:15:28.32\00:15:31.49 Repeated year by year, the annual sacrifices 00:15:31.49\00:15:34.96 could not bring about what verse 10 calls 00:15:34.96\00:15:38.67 the great time of reformation, not until Christ, 00:15:38.67\00:15:43.20 our eternal Savior, provided the most excellent 00:15:43.20\00:15:46.71 and permanent sacrifice was the new and living way 00:15:46.71\00:15:50.28 into the presence of God opened 00:15:50.28\00:15:52.55 and unbroken fellowship restored. 00:15:52.55\00:15:56.45 Verse 11 says that, "He came as high priest 00:15:56.45\00:16:00.06 of the good things to come." 00:16:00.06\00:16:02.16 And we see in Hebrews 9:15, "That Christ became 00:16:02.16\00:16:07.86 the mediator of the new covenant that we might receive 00:16:07.86\00:16:11.63 the promise of the eternal inheritance." 00:16:11.63\00:16:15.14 Now let me read to you portions of verses 12, 25 and 28 00:16:15.14\00:16:20.18 of Hebrews 9, because this emphasizes, 00:16:20.18\00:16:23.38 it was only necessary for Christ to be sacrificed once. 00:16:23.38\00:16:27.85 Let's read this together. 00:16:27.85\00:16:29.95 It says, "With His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place 00:16:29.95\00:16:35.39 once for all, having obtained eternal redemption." 00:16:35.39\00:16:40.93 "Not that He should offer Himself often. 00:16:40.93\00:16:44.17 Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many." 00:16:44.17\00:16:52.04 Christ needed only to be sacrificed once. 00:16:52.04\00:16:55.64 His propitiation was perfect and complete. 00:16:55.64\00:16:59.61 By His death Christ nailed the ceremonial law 00:16:59.61\00:17:03.35 and the temporary old covenant 00:17:03.35\00:17:04.89 with the nation of Israel to the cross. 00:17:04.89\00:17:07.96 The mercy seat of the Old Testament sanctuary 00:17:07.96\00:17:11.06 typified the redemption and justification 00:17:11.06\00:17:14.83 that we receive through Christ in a figurative sense. 00:17:14.83\00:17:19.50 Christ is our mercy seat of judgment upon which God 00:17:19.50\00:17:23.37 rules from His throne of grace in heaven. 00:17:23.37\00:17:26.37 His atoning blood covers this mercy seat. 00:17:26.37\00:17:29.88 He is the propitiation, the covering for our sin. 00:17:29.88\00:17:34.85 Let's read Romans 3:21-26. 00:17:34.85\00:17:40.19 "But now the righteousness of God apart from the law 00:17:40.19\00:17:43.43 is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 00:17:43.43\00:17:46.90 even the righteousness of God, through faith 00:17:46.90\00:17:50.60 in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. 00:17:50.60\00:17:55.17 For there is no difference, for all have sinned 00:17:55.17\00:17:58.27 and fall short of the glory of God, 00:17:58.27\00:18:00.41 being justified freely by His grace 00:18:00.41\00:18:04.98 through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 00:18:04.98\00:18:07.95 whom God set forth as a propitiation, 00:18:07.95\00:18:11.49 a covering of sin by His blood, through faith, 00:18:11.49\00:18:15.72 to demonstrate His righteousness, 00:18:15.72\00:18:18.16 because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins 00:18:18.16\00:18:22.40 that were previously committed, to demonstrate 00:18:22.40\00:18:25.27 at the present time His righteousness, 00:18:25.27\00:18:27.77 that He might be just and the justifier 00:18:27.77\00:18:31.97 of the one who has faith in Jesus." 00:18:31.97\00:18:36.95 An unfailing love the God of heaven 00:18:36.95\00:18:39.98 became the justifier of humanity. 00:18:39.98\00:18:42.85 He declares that all who'll believe 00:18:42.85\00:18:45.19 in His great gift of grace, 00:18:45.19\00:18:47.29 Jesus Christ, are redeemed from the bondage of sin 00:18:47.29\00:18:51.66 made righteous by faith and justified. 00:18:51.66\00:18:55.13 As we looked at in our last program, 00:18:55.13\00:18:57.03 the simple request of Demas, a condemned criminal 00:18:57.03\00:19:00.67 dying on a cross located to the right of our Savior. 00:19:00.67\00:19:03.74 His simple request is the perfect 00:19:03.74\00:19:06.44 picture of how propitiation by Christ blood 00:19:06.44\00:19:09.58 can result in forgiveness and salvation. 00:19:09.58\00:19:12.28 In an instant at the sound of His cry, 00:19:12.28\00:19:15.62 the sinner was justified, restored to a right relationship 00:19:15.62\00:19:19.55 with God and saved from his righteous wrath. 00:19:19.55\00:19:23.63 To be justified requires the process of God 00:19:23.63\00:19:27.60 granting an acquittal and declaring 00:19:27.60\00:19:30.27 the sinners innocence. 00:19:30.27\00:19:32.37 The justified person may say, 00:19:32.37\00:19:34.50 "It is just as if I'd never sinned." 00:19:34.50\00:19:37.87 This comes to us by grace 00:19:37.87\00:19:39.77 through Christ death and resurrection. 00:19:39.77\00:19:42.58 Do not think for a moment that you're too bad 00:19:42.58\00:19:44.91 to be saved by grace. 00:19:44.91\00:19:46.98 Romans 5:8-9 says, "God demonstrates His own love 00:19:46.98\00:19:51.69 toward us, in that while we were still sinners, 00:19:51.69\00:19:54.86 Christ died for us. 00:19:54.86\00:19:56.69 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, 00:19:56.69\00:20:01.36 we shall be saved from wrath through Him." 00:20:01.36\00:20:06.17 Now in considering the work of atonement and justification, 00:20:06.17\00:20:10.07 we cannot separate Christ resurrection 00:20:10.07\00:20:13.38 from His death on the cross. 00:20:13.38\00:20:15.18 The resurrection proved Christ claims to be the Son of God 00:20:15.18\00:20:19.75 and it released Him from the penalty of sin. 00:20:19.75\00:20:22.88 Only a resurrected Savior could serve 00:20:22.88\00:20:25.52 as our faithful high priest and complete 00:20:25.52\00:20:28.09 the work of atonement in the sanctuary of God in heaven. 00:20:28.09\00:20:31.43 Only a resurrected Savior is able to save us completely 00:20:31.43\00:20:35.46 as He lives to make intersession for us. 00:20:35.46\00:20:38.47 Let's read what the Bible says in Romans 4:25. 00:20:38.47\00:20:42.54 "Who," speaking of Christ, 00:20:42.54\00:20:44.71 "Was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds 00:20:44.71\00:20:49.68 and was raised to secure our justification, 00:20:49.68\00:20:53.85 our acquittal making our account balance 00:20:53.85\00:20:56.99 and absolving us from all guilt before God." 00:20:56.99\00:21:01.99 Christ died that we might receive justification by grace 00:21:01.99\00:21:06.29 and He was raised to secure our justification. 00:21:06.29\00:21:10.07 You know, as Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:6, 00:21:10.07\00:21:13.60 "He has made us accepted in the beloved." 00:21:13.60\00:21:17.64 Our hearts should overflow with appreciation and love 00:21:17.64\00:21:21.01 as we consider how he has clothed us with the robe 00:21:21.01\00:21:25.18 of Christ righteousness and accepted us 00:21:25.18\00:21:28.18 in His beloved Son. 00:21:28.18\00:21:30.19 The atoning blood of Christ our propitiation for sin 00:21:30.19\00:21:35.42 was the redemption price to release us 00:21:35.42\00:21:38.33 from our yoke of Satan's bondage. 00:21:38.33\00:21:41.13 The redeemer paid the ransom in full 00:21:41.13\00:21:44.37 for the condemned captives of sin. 00:21:44.37\00:21:47.60 It is because of this bloodbath part in that we can receive 00:21:47.60\00:21:53.11 His righteousness and justification 00:21:53.11\00:21:56.18 by the grace of God. 00:21:56.18\00:21:58.98 So you see, I am not insane to ask 00:21:58.98\00:22:02.95 if God is involved in a cover-up. 00:22:02.95\00:22:05.72 He most definitely is. 00:22:05.72\00:22:07.82 He is involved in the cover-up of our sins. 00:22:07.82\00:22:12.23 So let's summarize what this most important 00:22:12.23\00:22:15.66 word propitiation means. 00:22:15.66\00:22:18.57 This word that's so strange 00:22:18.57\00:22:20.34 to our vocabulary and our thinking. 00:22:20.34\00:22:22.77 It is symbolic sense, propitiation means to cover sin. 00:22:22.77\00:22:28.51 And it is closely related to the concept of atonement, 00:22:28.51\00:22:31.71 which means to cover over. 00:22:31.71\00:22:33.92 Remember this the next time you stumble across that word 00:22:33.92\00:22:37.32 in the Bible, Christ, our propitiation represents 00:22:37.32\00:22:42.42 the atonement of a merciful God who covers sin, 00:22:42.42\00:22:47.23 so that He can work a change of attitude in our hearts 00:22:47.23\00:22:51.97 that will make us friendly toward Him. 00:22:51.97\00:22:55.27 This results in our God restoring our relationship 00:22:55.27\00:22:59.04 with Him by reconciling us to Himself. 00:22:59.04\00:23:03.04 Let me ask you. 00:23:03.04\00:23:04.81 Have you accepted Christ as your Savior? 00:23:04.81\00:23:08.68 If you have, then you accepted Him as your propitiation. 00:23:08.68\00:23:13.49 Your sins are remitted and you've been 00:23:13.49\00:23:15.99 reinstated into the family of God. 00:23:15.99\00:23:18.93 If you have not made that firm commitment in your heart, 00:23:18.93\00:23:22.76 I invite you right now to join me in this prayer 00:23:22.76\00:23:27.40 and let's just tell the Lord that you're tired of living 00:23:27.40\00:23:31.54 in your sin sick empty way of life, 00:23:31.54\00:23:34.68 and we'll ask Him to grant you the gift of repentance. 00:23:34.68\00:23:38.38 Father, we come in the name of Jesus and I pray, 00:23:38.38\00:23:42.08 Lord, for those who are out 00:23:42.08\00:23:45.29 there yearning for a better way of life. 00:23:45.29\00:23:48.22 Father, I thank You, that You are opening their eyes 00:23:48.22\00:23:51.56 to turn them from darkness to light 00:23:51.56\00:23:53.29 and from the power of Satan to You. 00:23:53.29\00:23:55.66 And I ask in the name of Jesus that even at this very moment 00:23:55.66\00:24:00.87 as they cry out, Lord, to be forgiven of their sins 00:24:00.87\00:24:05.57 that You would grant them the gift of repentance 00:24:05.57\00:24:08.31 and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. 00:24:08.31\00:24:11.18 Turn them away, Lord, and turn them away from sin into You. 00:24:11.18\00:24:16.89 Welcome them into the family. 00:24:16.89\00:24:19.62 Father, we ask these things in the name of Jesus 00:24:19.62\00:24:22.26 and receive them in the name of Jesus. 00:24:22.26\00:24:25.33 Thank you, amen. 00:24:25.33\00:24:27.96 Now, God will give you a fresh start. 00:24:27.96\00:24:30.97 He is the God of new beginnings and He eagerly awaits 00:24:30.97\00:24:36.14 anyone who would make a decision for Him. 00:24:36.14\00:24:38.74 Ask the Lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit 00:24:38.74\00:24:41.21 so that Jesus may live in your heart by faith. 00:24:41.21\00:24:44.98 Tap into the grace pipeline 00:24:44.98\00:24:47.38 and God will grant you power over sin 00:24:47.38\00:24:50.95 and cause you to be rooted and grounded in His love 00:24:50.95\00:24:54.76 which is the compelling power behind His grace. 00:24:54.76\00:24:59.66 Well, our time is quickly coming to an end, 00:24:59.66\00:25:04.00 but I'm going to-I-I could continue on right now. 00:25:04.00\00:25:08.00 But I think that we're getting ready to delve 00:25:08.00\00:25:11.64 a little deeper in our next program, 00:25:11.64\00:25:14.78 into this topic of justification and God's extreme grace. 00:25:14.78\00:25:20.75 And it is such a wonderful teaching and to understand 00:25:20.75\00:25:27.32 from the Bible, what justification is all about 00:25:27.32\00:25:31.69 because justification is just the first stage of salvation. 00:25:31.69\00:25:38.83 So what we're going to do in this program 00:25:38.83\00:25:41.40 is we will not only go 00:25:41.40\00:25:43.81 and we'll be talking about justification. 00:25:43.81\00:25:47.41 But then in upcoming programs, 00:25:47.41\00:25:50.55 your heart is going to be thrilled 00:25:50.55\00:25:52.78 and as we start looking at sanctification, 00:25:52.78\00:25:55.92 which is the second stage of salvation. 00:25:55.92\00:25:58.99 And you'd be filled with the wondering of God's love 00:25:58.99\00:26:03.76 in all that He does for us. 00:26:03.76\00:26:06.26 He is-it is according to the pleasure of His will 00:26:06.26\00:26:11.13 that a just and Holy God became the justifier 00:26:11.13\00:26:16.27 of unholy humanity. 00:26:16.27\00:26:19.47 Justification is ours through Jesus alone. 00:26:19.47\00:26:24.01 The result of the cross and salvation 00:26:24.01\00:26:27.68 is a gift of His grace, and is yours for the asking. 00:26:27.68\00:26:32.49 If you didn't make that prayer with me while ago, 00:26:32.49\00:26:35.26 I hope if you- if you're finding 00:26:35.26\00:26:39.06 that you're not sure about God. 00:26:39.06\00:26:42.56 If you're not even sure that God exists 00:26:42.56\00:26:45.47 and you're watching this program 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.04 from anywhere around the world 00:26:47.04\00:26:49.24 and you're saying, "Is this true?" 00:26:49.24\00:26:51.31 I want to challenge you to do this one thing. 00:26:51.31\00:26:54.81 Tonight, when you go to bed, you just ask the Lord and say, 00:26:54.81\00:26:59.88 "Lord, if You're real, reveal Yourself to me." 00:26:59.88\00:27:04.25 And if you seek Him, I promise you, 00:27:04.25\00:27:09.22 He will come to you. 00:27:09.22\00:27:12.39 And this salvation is too great to be ignored. 00:27:12.39\00:27:18.67 Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He loves you, 00:27:18.67\00:27:23.37 He died for you, and you were worth nothing less 00:27:23.37\00:27:27.14 than the precious price that He paid to redeem you from sin. 00:27:27.14\00:27:32.35 Life doesn't have to be the way it's been in the past. 00:27:32.35\00:27:36.45 You can release your past and press forward with Christ, 00:27:36.45\00:27:41.49 knowing that He came to give you life abundantly. 00:27:41.49\00:27:47.20 And trust me, it is an abundant life. 00:27:47.20\00:27:50.67 I am so thankful to know there is nothing I can do 00:27:50.67\00:27:53.54 to save myself, but that in Christ I have everything. 00:27:53.54\00:27:57.57 Now grow in grace. Goodbye. 00:27:57.57\00:28:00.68
