Hello, I'm Shelley Quinn. 00:00:01.40\00:00:02.77 Coming up next on "The Grace Pipeline," 00:00:02.80\00:00:04.73 we will answer the question, is God involved in a cover-up? 00:00:04.76\00:00:09.13 Please join us now and learn how you can stand 00:00:09.16\00:00:11.86 before God just as if you had never sinned. 00:00:11.89\00:00:15.65 Welcome to "The Grace Pipeline." 00:00:35.87\00:00:37.97 In our last program we considered how our God 00:00:38.00\00:00:41.11 is a just God, perfect in all His ways. 00:00:41.14\00:00:45.53 His judgments against sinners are sure and righteous, 00:00:45.56\00:00:49.04 but His mercy is shown in that, 00:00:49.07\00:00:51.90 He also is the justifier of mankind, 00:00:51.93\00:00:55.42 offering us salvation by grace. 00:00:55.45\00:00:58.17 We also examined how an angel of God 00:00:58.20\00:01:00.94 created in perfection allowed his selfish pride 00:01:00.97\00:01:04.42 and lust for power to turn him into the devil 00:01:04.45\00:01:07.82 and started the great controversy 00:01:07.85\00:01:09.64 between good and evil. 00:01:09.67\00:01:11.41 When Satan lodged lying accusations against our Creator 00:01:11.44\00:01:16.09 and forced to rebellion, God limited his response 00:01:16.12\00:01:19.46 to casting him and his followers out of heaven. 00:01:19.49\00:01:22.54 For a limited time, the great controversy 00:01:22.57\00:01:25.03 between good and evil now rages on earth. 00:01:25.06\00:01:28.15 When God's just character has been proven 00:01:28.18\00:01:30.96 beyond doubt to all of His created beings, 00:01:30.99\00:01:34.30 angels and humans alike. 00:01:34.33\00:01:36.23 He will cut short the sin experience 00:01:36.26\00:01:38.83 by the second coming of Christ. 00:01:38.86\00:01:41.38 Today, we will look back to the mercy seat 00:01:41.41\00:01:44.44 of the ancient sanctuary and learn 00:01:44.47\00:01:46.78 that the saints of the Old Testament 00:01:46.81\00:01:48.76 were saved by grace just as we are. 00:01:48.79\00:01:51.58 If you're following along in the series 00:01:51.61\00:01:53.63 companion book also title "The Grace Pipeline," 00:01:53.66\00:01:56.85 we are beginning on page 50 of Chapter 4. 00:01:56.88\00:02:01.56 How do you see God? 00:02:01.59\00:02:03.75 Is your image of Him one of a stern taskmaster, 00:02:03.78\00:02:07.80 who is just watching from His throne, 00:02:07.83\00:02:10.23 eager to meet out punishment on wrong doers? 00:02:10.26\00:02:13.53 You know, unfortunately some people think that God of love 00:02:13.56\00:02:17.33 of the New Testament is in sharp contrast 00:02:17.36\00:02:19.97 to the image of God in the Old Testament. 00:02:20.00\00:02:22.84 If you've ever thought like that, perhaps because like me, 00:02:22.87\00:02:27.13 you are taught such nonsense. 00:02:27.16\00:02:29.37 I challenge you to take off those biased blinders 00:02:29.40\00:02:33.16 and read the Old Testament. 00:02:33.19\00:02:35.52 God is the same yesterday, today and forever, 00:02:35.55\00:02:38.96 He does not change. 00:02:38.99\00:02:40.36 The God of love written about in the New Testament 00:02:40.39\00:02:43.33 loves the sinner but hates the sin. 00:02:43.36\00:02:46.14 He is still a God of judgment. 00:02:46.17\00:02:48.40 In the Old Testament, you will see constant evidences 00:02:48.43\00:02:51.61 of the love of God and reflections of it 00:02:51.64\00:02:54.63 even in His most stern warnings against sin. 00:02:54.66\00:02:57.97 Listen to this precious passage 00:02:58.00\00:03:01.01 from the Old Testament found in Micah 7:18. 00:03:01.04\00:03:05.49 "Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity 00:03:05.52\00:03:09.40 and passing over the transgression 00:03:09.43\00:03:11.35 of the remnant of His heritage? 00:03:11.38\00:03:13.77 He does not retain His anger forever, 00:03:13.80\00:03:16.73 because He delights in mercy." 00:03:16.76\00:03:20.73 The Bible teaches us that God is love. 00:03:20.76\00:03:23.71 He is not just loving in action, 00:03:23.74\00:03:26.31 His very nature and essence is love. 00:03:26.34\00:03:29.60 And love delights in mercy. 00:03:29.63\00:03:32.14 Rebellious human kind was held captive by sin. 00:03:32.17\00:03:36.01 We were on the auction block so to speak, as slaves of sin. 00:03:36.04\00:03:40.01 God's Holy law demanded justice for sin. 00:03:40.04\00:03:43.02 In Romans 6:23, the Apostle tells us, 00:03:43.05\00:03:45.22 "That the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God 00:03:45.25\00:03:50.07 is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:03:50.10\00:03:53.15 With relentless love and by the precious blood 00:03:53.18\00:03:55.93 of His only begotten Son, 00:03:55.96\00:03:57.75 God provided the ransom payment to redeem us. 00:03:57.78\00:04:00.71 He purchased our freedom from sin's bondage 00:04:00.74\00:04:04.54 through the death of Jesus Christ. 00:04:04.57\00:04:06.85 And that's why Peter could write in 1 Peter 1:18, 19. 00:04:06.88\00:04:11.36 "That we can know that you were not redeemed 00:04:11.39\00:04:14.43 with corruptible things, like silver or gold, 00:04:14.46\00:04:18.04 from your aimless conduct received by tradition 00:04:18.07\00:04:20.57 from your fathers, but you were redeemed 00:04:20.60\00:04:24.36 with the precious blood of Christ, 00:04:24.39\00:04:26.81 as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." 00:04:26.84\00:04:32.86 In an act of a mercy and grace, God sent Christ 00:04:32.89\00:04:36.85 to win back humanity's love and loyalty. 00:04:36.88\00:04:39.67 Jesus willingly gave Himself on our behalf. 00:04:39.70\00:04:42.98 He stood in our place as the perfect substitute 00:04:43.01\00:04:47.64 and Christ sacrifice satisfied the demands for justice 00:04:47.67\00:04:52.13 that were required by the holy law of our loving God. 00:04:52.16\00:04:56.04 Christ became the propitiation for our sins. 00:04:56.07\00:05:00.74 As is written in 1 John 2:1, 2. 00:05:00.77\00:05:06.47 "My little children, these things I write to you, 00:05:06.50\00:05:10.34 so that you may not sin. 00:05:10.37\00:05:12.96 And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, 00:05:12.99\00:05:16.24 Jesus Christ the righteous. 00:05:16.27\00:05:18.41 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, 00:05:18.44\00:05:22.41 and not for ours only but also for the whole world." 00:05:22.44\00:05:26.82 And it is written again in 1 John 4:9, 10. 00:05:26.85\00:05:31.23 "In this the love of God was manifested toward us, 00:05:31.26\00:05:35.49 that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, 00:05:35.52\00:05:38.85 that we might live through Him. 00:05:38.88\00:05:41.68 In this is love, not that we loved God, 00:05:41.71\00:05:45.40 but that He loved us and sent His Son 00:05:45.43\00:05:48.51 to be the propitiation for our sins." 00:05:48.54\00:05:53.85 Only the author of Romans and the author of Hebrews, 00:05:53.88\00:05:57.90 whom I believe may both be attributed to the Apostle Paul, 00:05:57.93\00:06:01.97 also used this word in the New Testament, 00:06:02.00\00:06:05.82 propitiation, it's one of those words 00:06:05.85\00:06:08.14 that many of us stumble over 00:06:08.17\00:06:10.27 when we read and just keep pressing forward 00:06:10.30\00:06:12.44 without stopping to investigate it. 00:06:12.47\00:06:14.61 But to understand this word is to understand 00:06:14.64\00:06:18.90 why John the Baptist could exclaim 00:06:18.93\00:06:21.43 when he saw Jesus behold the Lamb of God, 00:06:21.46\00:06:24.81 who takes away the sins of the world. 00:06:24.84\00:06:29.44 Propitiation is another of those valuable words in scripture 00:06:29.47\00:06:33.56 that to appreciate we must first learn to define. 00:06:33.59\00:06:37.14 It is the very foundation for our justification by grace, 00:06:37.17\00:06:41.60 which means the acquittal of our sin 00:06:41.63\00:06:43.76 and the declaration of our innocence. 00:06:43.79\00:06:46.20 Propitiation is such a vital aspect of the Savior's ministry 00:06:46.23\00:06:50.79 that we should strive to understand it. 00:06:50.82\00:06:53.35 It's a difficult word to define, but bear with me 00:06:53.38\00:06:56.96 as I do my best to explain it. 00:06:56.99\00:06:59.33 You know, in Texas we have this saying 00:06:59.36\00:07:01.23 that when there is a difficult task at hand 00:07:01.26\00:07:03.62 we call it, "heavy ploughing." 00:07:03.65\00:07:05.39 Well, that's what we're about to do. 00:07:05.42\00:07:07.26 We're going to plough through trying to define propitiation, 00:07:07.29\00:07:10.99 so that we can breakthrough to the other side of it. 00:07:11.02\00:07:14.31 Why is this necessary? 00:07:14.34\00:07:15.91 What benefit is it to you? 00:07:15.94\00:07:17.78 When you understand propitiation, 00:07:17.81\00:07:20.28 you will gain a greater understanding 00:07:20.31\00:07:22.46 of salvation by grace and an expanded appreciation 00:07:22.49\00:07:26.61 of the atoning work of Christ. 00:07:26.64\00:07:29.09 In a symbolic sense, Jesus propitiation means, 00:07:29.12\00:07:34.59 "to cover sin" and is closely related to the concept 00:07:34.62\00:07:40.39 of atonement, which means "to cover over." 00:07:40.42\00:07:45.43 Propitiation represents the atonement of a merciful God 00:07:45.46\00:07:49.96 who covers sin so that humanity can receive reconciliation. 00:07:49.99\00:07:55.19 That just simply means that we receive 00:07:55.22\00:07:57.46 a change of attitude to make us friendly 00:07:57.49\00:07:59.91 toward God and restore us to Him. 00:07:59.94\00:08:02.13 When we accept Christ as our propitiation, 00:08:02.16\00:08:05.39 our sins are remitted and we are reinstated 00:08:05.42\00:08:08.45 into the family of God. 00:08:08.48\00:08:10.26 Now for a clear understanding of propitiation, 00:08:10.29\00:08:14.74 we must look back to the mercy seat 00:08:14.77\00:08:17.94 that covered God's throne of grace in the earthly sanctuary. 00:08:17.97\00:08:21.72 Allow me to set the same. 00:08:21.75\00:08:24.20 Immediately after God spoke the Ten Commandments 00:08:24.23\00:08:27.16 from Mount Sinai to His people, He made a special 00:08:27.19\00:08:30.27 temporary covenant with the nation of Israel. 00:08:30.30\00:08:33.27 Found in Exodus Chapter 20, and it begins with verse 22, 00:08:33.30\00:08:38.24 and it goes through Chapter 23 and verse 33. 00:08:38.27\00:08:41.83 And this dictated a series of civil, 00:08:41.86\00:08:44.40 social and religious laws to Moses. 00:08:44.43\00:08:47.52 Then Moses wrote the words of the Lord 00:08:47.55\00:08:50.66 in the Book of the Covenant, and afterward 00:08:50.69\00:08:53.73 God wrote the Ten Commandments with His own finger. 00:08:53.76\00:08:57.62 This is-these words are the only portion of scripture 00:08:57.65\00:09:00.78 that were hand-recorded by God. 00:09:00.81\00:09:03.42 Then God said in Exodus 25:8, 9. 00:09:03.45\00:09:10.53 "And let them make me a sanctuary 00:09:10.56\00:09:12.87 that I may dwell among them. 00:09:12.90\00:09:14.91 According to all that I show you, that is the pattern 00:09:14.94\00:09:19.10 of the tabernacle and the pattern of all 00:09:19.13\00:09:21.70 of its furnishings just so shall you make it." 00:09:21.73\00:09:26.56 Under the old covenant, God poured out 00:09:26.59\00:09:30.05 the grace of forgiveness in salvation to humanity 00:09:30.08\00:09:33.26 through the divine sanctuary services. 00:09:33.29\00:09:36.93 Sacrificed animals that stood in as substitutes 00:09:36.96\00:09:40.64 secured forgiveness for sinners. 00:09:40.67\00:09:43.25 The system of ceremonial laws 00:09:43.28\00:09:45.07 established in Exodus and Leviticus, which is called 00:09:45.10\00:09:48.56 the Book of the Priesthood, 00:09:48.59\00:09:50.73 was as Hebrews 10:1 refers to it, 00:09:50.76\00:09:53.84 just a shadow of good things to come. 00:09:53.87\00:09:56.47 This pointed to Christ, who is the substance, 00:09:56.50\00:09:59.54 the body that cast the shadow. 00:09:59.57\00:10:02.60 In the New Testament, in Hebrews 9:1-28, 00:10:02.63\00:10:08.17 provides a brief sketch 00:10:08.20\00:10:09.94 of the earthly sanctuary services. 00:10:09.97\00:10:12.50 And it summarizes the rituals of the priesthood 00:10:12.53\00:10:15.55 and the crucial role of animal sacrifices 00:10:15.58\00:10:18.55 in the ceremonial system. 00:10:18.58\00:10:20.54 What I'd like to do is just take a moment 00:10:20.57\00:10:22.84 to review some highlights of this passage of scripture. 00:10:22.87\00:10:26.44 We find in verse 6 that it was recorded each day 00:10:26.47\00:10:32.01 the priest carried out their ministry for the people 00:10:32.04\00:10:35.38 in the outer court and within the Holy Place. 00:10:35.41\00:10:39.40 The first compartment of the sanctuary 00:10:39.43\00:10:41.49 was called the Holy Place. 00:10:41.52\00:10:43.25 So the priests maintained daily sacrifices to confirm 00:10:43.28\00:10:47.39 the nation's consecration to God 00:10:47.42\00:10:49.99 and their constant dependence upon Him for atonement from sin. 00:10:50.02\00:10:54.91 They also set forth, guilt, sin and trespass offerings 00:10:54.94\00:10:59.50 on behalf of individuals. 00:10:59.53\00:11:01.45 And the death of the animals demonstrated 00:11:01.48\00:11:04.02 that sinners deserve to die, but were reconciled to God 00:11:04.05\00:11:08.35 by transferring their sins to a sacrificed victim 00:11:08.38\00:11:12.40 that served as a substitute. 00:11:12.43\00:11:15.83 By grace the blood of the substitute 00:11:15.86\00:11:18.84 made atonement for the soul. 00:11:18.87\00:11:21.18 This is an important point. 00:11:21.21\00:11:23.04 So let's take note of what Leviticus 17:11 says, 00:11:23.07\00:11:27.85 "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, 00:11:27.88\00:11:30.71 and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement 00:11:30.74\00:11:33.97 for your souls, for it is the blood 00:11:34.00\00:11:37.09 that makes atonement for the soul." 00:11:37.12\00:11:40.58 The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus blood serves 00:11:40.61\00:11:45.26 as atonement for the sin of humanity. 00:11:45.29\00:11:48.49 Now, let's continue in Hebrews 9, 00:11:48.52\00:11:50.97 and I'll summarize verses 2-5 for you. 00:11:51.00\00:11:54.98 In this Chapter that provides the overview 00:11:55.01\00:11:59.23 of the sanctuary and its furnishings. 00:11:59.26\00:12:01.76 Now, located in the inner sanctuary 00:12:01.79\00:12:05.32 which was called the Holiest of Holy 00:12:05.35\00:12:07.67 and sometimes it was identified as the Holy of Holies 00:12:07.70\00:12:11.35 or the Most Holy Place. 00:12:11.38\00:12:13.30 Inside there was the Ark of the Covenant 00:12:13.33\00:12:15.94 with the mercy seat, and this symbolized 00:12:15.97\00:12:18.62 God's throne of grace. 00:12:18.65\00:12:20.57 It was here that the visible presence, 00:12:20.60\00:12:23.19 the Shekinah Glory of God filled the space 00:12:23.22\00:12:26.42 between the cherubim and here God communed 00:12:26.45\00:12:30.44 with people, and He heard their prayers. 00:12:30.47\00:12:33.11 And from His mercy seat, the God of grace 00:12:33.14\00:12:36.03 extended forgiveness of sins. 00:12:36.06\00:12:39.04 Now in verse 4 of Hebrews, it explains that the contents 00:12:39.07\00:12:44.99 of what were inside the Ark and inside this sacred chest 00:12:45.02\00:12:49.73 were the golden pot of manna. 00:12:49.76\00:12:51.86 That was a memorial of God's supernatural provision. 00:12:51.89\00:12:56.19 Also was the rod of Aaron which was dead then budded, 00:12:56.22\00:13:00.97 and it was a sign given to verify that Aaron 00:13:01.00\00:13:04.67 had the right to serve as high priest. 00:13:04.70\00:13:07.51 This pointed to Christ, our branch 00:13:07.54\00:13:10.34 as the Old Testament calls him, who was dead 00:13:10.37\00:13:13.51 then resurrected with new life to serve 00:13:13.54\00:13:16.28 as our only high priest in heaven. 00:13:16.31\00:13:19.23 Also inside the sacred chest 00:13:19.26\00:13:21.20 were the two tablets of the Ten Commandments. 00:13:21.23\00:13:24.04 And these represented the twin pillars that support 00:13:24.07\00:13:27.72 the moral foundation upon which God's government rests. 00:13:27.75\00:13:33.17 Now in verse 5, it tells us that the covering was- 00:13:33.20\00:13:40.35 of the Ark was a lid that was called the mercy seat. 00:13:40.38\00:13:44.19 And the literal meaning of the Hebrew word 00:13:44.22\00:13:46.47 for mercy seat meant to wipeout or cover over. 00:13:46.50\00:13:51.25 God's people identified the Most Holy Place 00:13:51.28\00:13:55.10 as the place of the mercy seat. 00:13:55.13\00:13:57.27 The high priest and He alone entered 00:13:57.30\00:13:59.57 the Most Holy Place once a year, on the Day of Atonement, 00:13:59.60\00:14:03.19 which you may have heard it called Yom Kippur. 00:14:03.22\00:14:06.20 On this Day of Judgment, he made atonement 00:14:06.23\00:14:09.55 for the sanctuary and all the people. 00:14:09.58\00:14:12.35 For the congregation, he would sprinkle 00:14:12.38\00:14:14.83 the atoning blood of the authorized sacrifices 00:14:14.86\00:14:17.30 on the mercy seat, first for himself 00:14:17.33\00:14:19.91 and then for the collective errors 00:14:19.94\00:14:22.40 and sins of ignorance of the nation. 00:14:22.43\00:14:24.63 As verse 7 attest. Let's read it. 00:14:24.66\00:14:28.39 "But into the second part the high priest 00:14:28.42\00:14:31.10 went alone once a year, not without blood, 00:14:31.13\00:14:35.32 which he offered for himself and for the people's sins 00:14:35.35\00:14:39.76 committed in ignorance." 00:14:39.79\00:14:43.19 These services at this most sacred of all ceremonial days, 00:14:43.22\00:14:47.77 represented cleansing from sin and reconciliation to God 00:14:47.80\00:14:52.68 through the atonement our covering over by blood. 00:14:52.71\00:14:55.89 This pointed to Christ's atoning sacrifice on the cross, 00:14:55.92\00:15:00.33 an occasion of solemn nationwide repentance. 00:15:00.36\00:15:04.09 The Day of Atonement eventually ended for the pennated with joy. 00:15:04.12\00:15:09.33 By grace they received forgiveness 00:15:09.36\00:15:11.93 and a fresh start with God. 00:15:11.96\00:15:14.55 You know, the author of Hebrews explains in verse 8, 00:15:14.58\00:15:18.58 that the limitation of entering God's presence only once a year 00:15:18.61\00:15:23.47 indicated that the way into the holiest of all 00:15:23.50\00:15:26.73 was not yet made manifest 00:15:26.76\00:15:28.32 while the first tabernacle was still standing. 00:15:28.35\00:15:31.47 Repeated year by year, the annual sacrifices 00:15:31.50\00:15:34.99 could not bring about what verse 10 calls 00:15:35.02\00:15:38.68 the great time of reformation, not until Christ, 00:15:38.71\00:15:43.23 our eternal Savior, provided the most excellent 00:15:43.26\00:15:46.71 and permanent sacrifice was the new and living way 00:15:46.74\00:15:50.27 into the presence of God opened 00:15:50.30\00:15:52.55 and unbroken fellowship restored. 00:15:52.58\00:15:56.45 Verse 11 says that, "He came as high priest 00:15:56.48\00:16:00.06 of the good things to come." 00:16:00.09\00:16:02.15 And we see in Hebrews 9:15, "That Christ became 00:16:02.18\00:16:07.85 the mediator of the new covenant that we might receive 00:16:07.88\00:16:11.64 the promise of the eternal inheritance." 00:16:11.67\00:16:15.14 Now let me read to you portions of verses 12, 25 and 28 00:16:15.17\00:16:20.20 of Hebrews 9, because this emphasizes, 00:16:20.23\00:16:23.39 it was only necessary for Christ to be sacrificed once. 00:16:23.42\00:16:27.85 Let's read this together. 00:16:27.88\00:16:29.95 It says, "With His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place 00:16:29.98\00:16:35.40 once for all, having obtained eternal redemption." 00:16:35.43\00:16:40.92 "Not that He should offer Himself often. 00:16:40.95\00:16:44.20 Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many." 00:16:44.23\00:16:52.04 Christ needed only to be sacrificed once. 00:16:52.07\00:16:55.66 His propitiation was perfect and complete. 00:16:55.69\00:16:59.63 By His death Christ nailed the ceremonial law 00:16:59.66\00:17:03.34 and the temporary old covenant 00:17:03.37\00:17:04.87 with the nation of Israel to the cross. 00:17:04.90\00:17:07.96 The mercy seat of the Old Testament sanctuary 00:17:07.99\00:17:11.06 typified the redemption and justification 00:17:11.09\00:17:14.82 that we receive through Christ in a figurative sense. 00:17:14.85\00:17:19.53 Christ is our mercy seat of judgment upon which God 00:17:19.56\00:17:23.38 rules from His throne of grace in heaven. 00:17:23.41\00:17:26.38 His atoning blood covers this mercy seat. 00:17:26.41\00:17:29.90 He is the propitiation, the covering for our sin. 00:17:29.93\00:17:34.86 Let's read Romans 3:21-26. 00:17:34.89\00:17:40.17 "But now the righteousness of God apart from the law 00:17:40.20\00:17:43.43 is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 00:17:43.46\00:17:46.89 even the righteousness of God, through faith 00:17:46.92\00:17:50.63 in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. 00:17:50.66\00:17:55.19 For there is no difference, for all have sinned 00:17:55.22\00:17:58.27 and fall short of the glory of God, 00:17:58.30\00:18:00.42 being justified freely by His grace 00:18:00.45\00:18:04.97 through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 00:18:05.00\00:18:07.96 whom God set forth as a propitiation, 00:18:07.99\00:18:11.50 a covering of sin by His blood, through faith, 00:18:11.53\00:18:15.73 to demonstrate His righteousness, 00:18:15.76\00:18:18.14 because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins 00:18:18.17\00:18:22.42 that were previously committed, to demonstrate 00:18:22.45\00:18:25.30 at the present time His righteousness, 00:18:25.33\00:18:27.80 that He might be just and the justifier 00:18:27.83\00:18:31.99 of the one who has faith in Jesus." 00:18:32.02\00:18:36.95 An unfailing love the God of heaven 00:18:36.98\00:18:39.97 became the justifier of humanity. 00:18:40.00\00:18:42.86 He declares that all who'll believe 00:18:42.89\00:18:45.17 in His great gift of grace, 00:18:45.20\00:18:47.27 Jesus Christ, are redeemed from the bondage of sin 00:18:47.30\00:18:51.64 made righteous by faith and justified. 00:18:51.67\00:18:55.14 As we looked at in our last program, 00:18:55.17\00:18:57.06 the simple request of Demas, a condemned criminal 00:18:57.09\00:19:00.67 dying on a cross located to the right of our Savior. 00:19:00.70\00:19:03.74 His simple request is the perfect 00:19:03.77\00:19:06.45 picture of how propitiation by Christ blood 00:19:06.48\00:19:09.60 can result in forgiveness and salvation. 00:19:09.63\00:19:12.30 In an instant at the sound of His cry, 00:19:12.33\00:19:15.63 the sinner was justified, restored to a right relationship 00:19:15.66\00:19:19.54 with God and saved from his righteous wrath. 00:19:19.57\00:19:23.63 To be justified requires the process of God 00:19:23.66\00:19:27.60 granting an acquittal and declaring 00:19:27.63\00:19:30.29 the sinners innocence. 00:19:30.32\00:19:32.38 The justified person may say, 00:19:32.41\00:19:34.52 "It is just as if I'd never sinned." 00:19:34.55\00:19:37.87 This comes to us by grace 00:19:37.90\00:19:39.79 through Christ death and resurrection. 00:19:39.82\00:19:42.57 Do not think for a moment that you're too bad 00:19:42.60\00:19:44.92 to be saved by grace. 00:19:44.95\00:19:46.97 Romans 5:8-9 says, "God demonstrates His own love 00:19:47.00\00:19:51.69 toward us, in that while we were still sinners, 00:19:51.72\00:19:54.85 Christ died for us. 00:19:54.88\00:19:56.69 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, 00:19:56.72\00:20:01.37 we shall be saved from wrath through Him." 00:20:01.40\00:20:06.18 Now in considering the work of atonement and justification, 00:20:06.21\00:20:10.08 we cannot separate Christ resurrection 00:20:10.11\00:20:13.39 from His death on the cross. 00:20:13.42\00:20:15.20 The resurrection proved Christ claims to be the Son of God 00:20:15.23\00:20:19.76 and it released Him from the penalty of sin. 00:20:19.79\00:20:22.89 Only a resurrected Savior could serve 00:20:22.92\00:20:25.51 as our faithful high priest and complete 00:20:25.54\00:20:28.08 the work of atonement in the sanctuary of God in heaven. 00:20:28.11\00:20:31.41 Only a resurrected Savior is able to save us completely 00:20:31.44\00:20:35.49 as He lives to make intersession for us. 00:20:35.52\00:20:38.49 Let's read what the Bible says in Romans 4:25. 00:20:38.52\00:20:42.55 "Who," speaking of Christ, 00:20:42.58\00:20:44.72 "Was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds 00:20:44.75\00:20:49.70 and was raised to secure our justification, 00:20:49.73\00:20:53.85 our acquittal making our account balance 00:20:53.88\00:20:56.97 and absolving us from all guilt before God." 00:20:57.00\00:21:01.97 Christ died that we might receive justification by grace 00:21:02.00\00:21:06.29 and He was raised to secure our justification. 00:21:06.32\00:21:10.09 You know, as Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:6, 00:21:10.12\00:21:13.61 "He has made us accepted in the beloved." 00:21:13.64\00:21:17.64 Our hearts should overflow with appreciation and love 00:21:17.67\00:21:21.02 as we consider how he has clothed us with the robe 00:21:21.05\00:21:25.20 of Christ righteousness and accepted us 00:21:25.23\00:21:28.18 in His beloved Son. 00:21:28.21\00:21:30.18 The atoning blood of Christ our propitiation for sin 00:21:30.21\00:21:35.41 was the redemption price to release us 00:21:35.44\00:21:38.32 from our yoke of Satan's bondage. 00:21:38.35\00:21:41.14 The redeemer paid the ransom in full 00:21:41.17\00:21:44.39 for the condemned captives of sin. 00:21:44.42\00:21:47.62 It is because of this bloodbath part in that we can receive 00:21:47.65\00:21:53.12 His righteousness and justification 00:21:53.15\00:21:56.17 by the grace of God. 00:21:56.20\00:21:58.99 So you see, I am not insane to ask 00:21:59.02\00:22:02.96 if God is involved in a cover-up. 00:22:02.99\00:22:05.71 He most definitely is. 00:22:05.74\00:22:07.82 He is involved in the cover-up of our sins. 00:22:07.85\00:22:12.22 So let's summarize what this most important 00:22:12.25\00:22:15.68 word propitiation means. 00:22:15.71\00:22:18.57 This word that's so strange 00:22:18.60\00:22:20.34 to our vocabulary and our thinking. 00:22:20.37\00:22:22.79 It is symbolic sense, propitiation means to cover sin. 00:22:22.82\00:22:28.53 And it is closely related to the concept of atonement, 00:22:28.56\00:22:31.71 which means to cover over. 00:22:31.74\00:22:33.91 Remember this the next time you stumble across that word 00:22:33.94\00:22:37.31 in the Bible, Christ, our propitiation represents 00:22:37.34\00:22:42.41 the atonement of a merciful God who covers sin, 00:22:42.44\00:22:47.21 so that He can work a change of attitude in our hearts 00:22:47.24\00:22:51.98 that will make us friendly toward Him. 00:22:52.01\00:22:55.30 This results in our God restoring our relationship 00:22:55.33\00:22:59.05 with Him by reconciling us to Himself. 00:22:59.08\00:23:03.04 Let me ask you. 00:23:03.07\00:23:04.83 Have you accepted Christ as your Savior? 00:23:04.86\00:23:08.70 If you have, then you accepted Him as your propitiation. 00:23:08.73\00:23:13.49 Your sins are remitted and you've been 00:23:13.52\00:23:15.98 reinstated into the family of God. 00:23:16.01\00:23:18.92 If you have not made that firm commitment in your heart, 00:23:18.95\00:23:22.78 I invite you right now to join me in this prayer 00:23:22.81\00:23:27.43 and let's just tell the Lord that you're tired of living 00:23:27.46\00:23:31.56 in your sin sick empty way of life, 00:23:31.59\00:23:34.67 and we'll ask Him to grant you the gift of repentance. 00:23:34.70\00:23:38.37 Father, we come in the name of Jesus and I pray, 00:23:38.40\00:23:42.07 Lord, for those who are out 00:23:42.10\00:23:45.30 there yearning for a better way of life. 00:23:45.33\00:23:48.23 Father, I thank You, that You are opening their eyes 00:23:48.26\00:23:51.56 to turn them from darkness to light 00:23:51.59\00:23:53.27 and from the power of Satan to You. 00:23:53.30\00:23:55.69 And I ask in the name of Jesus that even at this very moment 00:23:55.72\00:24:00.87 as they cry out, Lord, to be forgiven of their sins 00:24:00.90\00:24:05.59 that You would grant them the gift of repentance 00:24:05.62\00:24:08.33 and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. 00:24:08.36\00:24:11.17 Turn them away, Lord, and turn them away from sin into You. 00:24:11.20\00:24:16.88 Welcome them into the family. 00:24:16.91\00:24:19.61 Father, we ask these things in the name of Jesus 00:24:19.64\00:24:22.26 and receive them in the name of Jesus. 00:24:22.29\00:24:25.33 Thank you, amen. 00:24:25.36\00:24:27.98 Now, God will give you a fresh start. 00:24:28.01\00:24:30.97 He is the God of new beginnings and He eagerly awaits 00:24:31.00\00:24:36.14 anyone who would make a decision for Him. 00:24:36.17\00:24:38.75 Ask the Lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit 00:24:38.78\00:24:41.22 so that Jesus may live in your heart by faith. 00:24:41.25\00:24:45.00 Tap into the grace pipeline 00:24:45.03\00:24:47.37 and God will grant you power over sin 00:24:47.40\00:24:50.95 and cause you to be rooted and grounded in His love 00:24:50.98\00:24:54.75 which is the compelling power behind His grace. 00:24:54.78\00:24:59.65 Well, our time is quickly coming to an end, 00:24:59.68\00:25:04.03 but I'm going to-I-I could continue on right now. 00:25:04.06\00:25:08.02 But I think that we're getting ready to delve 00:25:08.05\00:25:11.64 a little deeper in our next program, 00:25:11.67\00:25:14.80 into this topic of justification and God's extreme grace. 00:25:14.83\00:25:20.75 And it is such a wonderful teaching and to understand 00:25:20.78\00:25:27.32 from the Bible, what justification is all about 00:25:27.35\00:25:31.67 because justification is just the first stage of salvation. 00:25:31.70\00:25:38.84 So what we're going to do in this program 00:25:38.87\00:25:41.41 is we will not only go 00:25:41.44\00:25:43.83 and we'll be talking about justification. 00:25:43.86\00:25:47.42 But then in upcoming programs, 00:25:47.45\00:25:50.54 your heart is going to be thrilled 00:25:50.57\00:25:52.79 and as we start looking at sanctification, 00:25:52.82\00:25:55.92 which is the second stage of salvation. 00:25:55.95\00:25:58.97 And you'd be filled with the wondering of God's love 00:25:59.00\00:26:03.75 in all that He does for us. 00:26:03.78\00:26:06.24 He is-it is according to the pleasure of His will 00:26:06.27\00:26:11.15 that a just and Holy God became the justifier 00:26:11.18\00:26:16.27 of unholy humanity. 00:26:16.30\00:26:19.50 Justification is ours through Jesus alone. 00:26:19.53\00:26:24.03 The result of the cross and salvation 00:26:24.06\00:26:27.70 is a gift of His grace, and is yours for the asking. 00:26:27.73\00:26:32.47 If you didn't make that prayer with me while ago, 00:26:32.50\00:26:35.26 I hope if you- if you're finding 00:26:35.29\00:26:39.05 that you're not sure about God. 00:26:39.08\00:26:42.57 If you're not even sure that God exists 00:26:42.60\00:26:45.50 and you're watching this program 00:26:45.53\00:26:47.04 from anywhere around the world 00:26:47.07\00:26:49.25 and you're saying, "Is this true?" 00:26:49.28\00:26:51.32 I want to challenge you to do this one thing. 00:26:51.35\00:26:54.83 Tonight, when you go to bed, you just ask the Lord and say, 00:26:54.86\00:26:59.90 "Lord, if You're real, reveal Yourself to me." 00:26:59.93\00:27:04.24 And if you seek Him, I promise you, 00:27:04.27\00:27:09.21 He will come to you. 00:27:09.24\00:27:12.39 And this salvation is too great to be ignored. 00:27:12.42\00:27:18.70 Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He loves you, 00:27:18.73\00:27:23.37 He died for you, and you were worth nothing less 00:27:23.40\00:27:27.14 than the precious price that He paid to redeem you from sin. 00:27:27.17\00:27:32.35 Life doesn't have to be the way it's been in the past. 00:27:32.38\00:27:36.46 You can release your past and press forward with Christ, 00:27:36.49\00:27:41.47 knowing that He came to give you life abundantly. 00:27:41.50\00:27:47.18 And trust me, it is an abundant life. 00:27:47.21\00:27:50.68 I am so thankful to know there is nothing I can do 00:27:50.71\00:27:53.54 to save myself, but that in Christ I have everything. 00:27:53.57\00:27:57.59 Now grow in grace. Goodbye. 00:27:57.62\00:28:00.70
