In the Bible in Isaiah 58:13, 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.77 God speaks of My Holy Day. 00:00:03.80\00:00:07.14 Muslims today keep Friday as their holy day. 00:00:07.17\00:00:09.80 Jews and a growing number of Christians 00:00:09.84\00:00:12.34 go to church on Saturday. 00:00:12.37\00:00:14.31 And then there's the majority of Christians 00:00:14.34\00:00:16.38 that keep Sunday. 00:00:16.41\00:00:18.28 Which day is the right day? 00:00:18.31\00:00:20.12 That's our topic, stay tuned. 00:00:20.15\00:00:21.95 Welcome to part 12 of the 13-part series 00:01:14.50\00:01:17.34 called Good News for Muslims, 00:01:17.37\00:01:19.61 discussing Christian Muslim issues. 00:01:19.64\00:01:22.61 And we're right down near the end. 00:01:22.64\00:01:23.98 We've only got one more program after this, 00:01:24.01\00:01:25.55 so, thank you for being with us today. 00:01:25.58\00:01:28.25 Our topic today is called God's Holy Day. 00:01:28.28\00:01:32.15 What day is really God's Holy Day? 00:01:32.19\00:01:35.46 My guest again is Shahbaz. 00:01:35.49\00:01:36.96 Shahbaz, you're still here with me. 00:01:36.99\00:01:38.76 Thank you. 00:01:38.79\00:01:40.13 We've got one more program to go, 00:01:40.16\00:01:42.43 11 behind us, and this is a big one. 00:01:42.46\00:01:45.73 So we're going to talk about which day is God's day. 00:01:45.77\00:01:50.11 And in our last program, 00:01:50.14\00:01:52.47 we went down through Exodus Chapter 20, 00:01:52.51\00:01:55.88 and we talked about the Ten Commandments. 00:01:55.91\00:01:58.11 And as we discussed, 00:01:58.15\00:02:00.25 there's a general respect for Moses 00:02:00.28\00:02:04.39 in the Muslim community, isn't that right? 00:02:04.42\00:02:06.45 That's correct. 00:02:06.49\00:02:07.82 They believe, at least the first five books 00:02:07.86\00:02:09.99 are considered to be pure. 00:02:10.03\00:02:11.53 That's right. 00:02:11.56\00:02:12.89 And as we looked at Exodus 20, 00:02:12.93\00:02:14.73 which is the second book of Moses, 00:02:14.76\00:02:17.27 we went down through 00:02:17.30\00:02:18.90 the Ten Commandments one by one, 00:02:18.93\00:02:21.67 and we didn't spend a lot of time 00:02:21.70\00:02:23.74 on the fourth commandment. 00:02:23.77\00:02:25.21 But let's zero in on this one. 00:02:25.24\00:02:27.91 Why don't you open your Bible? 00:02:27.94\00:02:29.98 And why don't you read this, 00:02:30.01\00:02:31.91 and I'll just follow along here. 00:02:31.95\00:02:33.82 Exodus 20:8-11, 00:02:33.85\00:02:37.19 which is commandment number four. 00:02:37.22\00:02:40.66 Okay, I'm reading, 00:02:40.69\00:02:42.02 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:02:42.06\00:02:44.56 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: 00:02:44.59\00:02:48.90 But the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:02:48.93\00:02:50.67 of the Lord thy God. 00:02:50.70\00:02:52.03 In it thou shalt not do any work, 00:02:52.07\00:02:54.30 thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, 00:02:54.34\00:02:57.61 thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, 00:02:57.64\00:03:01.24 nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger 00:03:01.28\00:03:03.65 that is within thy gates: 00:03:03.68\00:03:05.08 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, 00:03:05.11\00:03:07.42 and sea and all that in them is, 00:03:07.45\00:03:10.39 and rested the seventh day: 00:03:10.42\00:03:12.19 wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, 00:03:12.22\00:03:14.99 and hallowed it." 00:03:15.02\00:03:16.46 Okay, so that's commandment number four. 00:03:16.49\00:03:18.63 It's the only commandment of all 10 00:03:18.66\00:03:21.56 that starts out with the word "Remember." 00:03:21.60\00:03:23.40 That's correct. 00:03:23.43\00:03:24.77 You know, eight of them say thou shalt not this or that, 00:03:24.80\00:03:28.67 you shalt not kill, you shalt not commit adultery, 00:03:28.70\00:03:30.51 you shalt not bear false witness. 00:03:30.54\00:03:32.64 One of them, the fifth one, says, 00:03:32.67\00:03:34.31 "Honor your father and your mother." 00:03:34.34\00:03:36.64 But the fourth one alone says remember. 00:03:36.68\00:03:40.42 And when you think of remember, what comes to mind? 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.69 Don't forget. 00:03:44.72\00:03:46.05 Yeah, don't forget. Yeah. 00:03:46.09\00:03:48.02 If my wife told me to go to the market, 00:03:48.06\00:03:51.53 and don't forget, 00:03:51.56\00:03:54.10 remember to get a loaf of bread. 00:03:54.13\00:03:57.47 If I came back with a pizza 00:03:57.50\00:04:00.37 or, you know, some other things, 00:04:00.40\00:04:02.44 but I forgot that loaf of bread, 00:04:02.47\00:04:04.31 I'd be in trouble. 00:04:04.34\00:04:05.81 Remember. 00:04:05.84\00:04:07.18 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:04:07.21\00:04:09.21 So here God talks about not forgetting His day 00:04:09.24\00:04:14.22 that we should keep holy. 00:04:14.25\00:04:15.65 Now, I think everybody knows, in Islam, 00:04:15.68\00:04:19.42 the holy day for Muslims is Friday. 00:04:19.45\00:04:24.03 Now, enlighten us and tell us, where did that come from, 00:04:24.06\00:04:27.43 why is that the case? 00:04:27.46\00:04:29.00 From jumu'ah in Arabic or jom'e in Persian. 00:04:29.03\00:04:32.73 It's the Persian pronunciation of it. 00:04:32.77\00:04:35.80 Is the day that Muslims venerate 00:04:35.84\00:04:39.87 as their day of prayer coming together. 00:04:39.91\00:04:43.35 Jumu'ah means to come together. 00:04:43.38\00:04:45.48 Jumu'ah? 00:04:45.51\00:04:46.85 Yeah, jumu'ah in Arabic. Yeah. 00:04:46.88\00:04:49.15 It means to come together. Okay. 00:04:49.18\00:04:51.15 And so it's a day that Muslims, wherever they are, 00:04:51.19\00:04:54.49 they come to their mosques and they pray. 00:04:54.52\00:04:56.56 Of course when Muhammad began his ministry, 00:04:59.79\00:05:05.60 in the beginning, 00:05:05.63\00:05:06.97 that was not part of their belief systems. 00:05:07.00\00:05:10.11 But eventually, 00:05:10.14\00:05:11.47 as he began to get these revelations, 00:05:11.51\00:05:14.34 that was also added, 00:05:14.38\00:05:15.71 and he also wanted to contribute something 00:05:15.74\00:05:19.88 to his religion, 00:05:19.91\00:05:21.25 because here, as far as he was concerned, 00:05:21.28\00:05:24.09 Christians kept Sunday. 00:05:24.12\00:05:26.02 And the Jews, they all kept Saturday 00:05:26.05\00:05:29.42 as the day of... 00:05:29.46\00:05:30.79 That was holy to them and rest. 00:05:30.83\00:05:32.69 So he decided 00:05:32.73\00:05:34.06 that Friday would be the day for Muhammad 00:05:34.10\00:05:37.37 and his followers. 00:05:37.40\00:05:40.34 And there are other reasons 00:05:40.37\00:05:41.70 that are given based on the Hadith. 00:05:41.74\00:05:44.41 And that Allah told, for instance, told Muhammad, 00:05:44.44\00:05:48.14 I'm going to read one of these Hadith right now. 00:05:48.18\00:05:50.65 This is a Hadith from the narration 00:05:50.68\00:05:52.68 of Abu Hurairah, 00:05:52.71\00:05:56.52 and he's quoting, supposedly, 00:05:56.55\00:05:59.12 he's quoting the Prophet Muhammad. 00:05:59.15\00:06:01.62 And it reads, "The best day 00:06:01.66\00:06:04.13 that the sun has risen upon is Friday. 00:06:04.16\00:06:07.30 On it, Adam was created, and on it, 00:06:07.33\00:06:10.60 he entered Paradise, and on it 00:06:10.63\00:06:13.10 he was expelled from it. 00:06:13.13\00:06:15.27 And the hour will not be established 00:06:15.30\00:06:18.17 except on Friday." 00:06:18.21\00:06:20.18 So the Hadith, and the Quran, 00:06:20.21\00:06:22.98 they exalt that day as a day 00:06:23.01\00:06:25.21 that is the best day of the week, 00:06:25.25\00:06:27.32 and that all Muslims are to 00:06:27.35\00:06:29.75 basically keep that day 00:06:29.78\00:06:32.52 and as a day of coming together for prayer. 00:06:32.55\00:06:35.62 You mentioned it's in the Quran? 00:06:35.66\00:06:36.99 Yes. 00:06:37.03\00:06:38.36 I think that is the only one place 00:06:38.39\00:06:39.73 in the Quran? 00:06:39.76\00:06:41.10 No, there are more than one. 00:06:41.13\00:06:43.00 But the major one 00:06:43.03\00:06:45.23 is found in Surah 62:9 00:06:45.27\00:06:50.41 62:9, okay, I've got that. 00:06:50.44\00:06:52.27 And let me read that. 00:06:52.31\00:06:53.64 "O you who believe, 00:06:53.68\00:06:55.01 when the call is made for prayer on Friday, 00:06:55.04\00:06:58.41 then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trading, 00:06:58.45\00:07:02.88 that is better for you, if you know." 00:07:02.92\00:07:04.79 That's right. 00:07:04.82\00:07:06.15 And in fact, that is the only verse 00:07:06.19\00:07:07.86 in the Quran that talks about Friday. 00:07:07.89\00:07:10.09 Yeah. 00:07:10.13\00:07:12.29 This is their purpose and reason 00:07:12.33\00:07:15.56 and they believe this is the day 00:07:15.60\00:07:17.07 that all mankind should be honoring. 00:07:17.10\00:07:20.64 Okay, so this was a revelation to. 00:07:20.67\00:07:25.37 Partly, this particular verse was a revelation from Gabriel, 00:07:25.41\00:07:29.61 and given to Muhammad, 00:07:29.64\00:07:32.58 according to the Islamic tradition. 00:07:32.61\00:07:34.75 And plus the Hadith that supports, 00:07:34.78\00:07:36.92 of course, the Hadith were not written 00:07:36.95\00:07:39.25 until after the death of the Prophet. 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.72 Okay, you mentioned that in the Hadith, 00:07:41.76\00:07:43.59 you read that little bit ago 00:07:43.63\00:07:45.36 that it talks about Friday being the day 00:07:45.39\00:07:47.70 that Adam was created? 00:07:47.73\00:07:50.23 Yes. Okay. 00:07:50.27\00:07:51.60 Let's take a look at that. 00:07:51.63\00:07:52.97 He was created, and he entered into paradise on that day. 00:07:53.00\00:07:56.67 And that is true, according to the Bible. 00:07:56.71\00:08:00.88 We started with Exodus, 00:08:00.91\00:08:02.44 the fourth commandment about the Sabbath. 00:08:02.48\00:08:05.01 And it says, "In six days, the Lord made heaven and earth, 00:08:05.05\00:08:08.02 the sea and all that is in them, 00:08:08.05\00:08:09.62 and He rested on the seventh day. 00:08:09.65\00:08:10.99 And that points us back to Genesis Chapter 1 00:08:11.02\00:08:15.69 and Chapter 2. 00:08:15.72\00:08:19.16 And as the Hadith says, Adam was made on the sixth day. 00:08:19.19\00:08:24.83 And that agrees with the Bible. 00:08:24.87\00:08:28.47 It says in Genesis 1:26, 00:08:28.50\00:08:32.81 "And God said, 'Let us make man in Our image, 00:08:32.84\00:08:36.14 after Our likeness." 00:08:36.18\00:08:38.05 And as you keep reading a little bit farther down 00:08:38.08\00:08:40.32 in verse 31, it says, 00:08:40.35\00:08:41.68 "The evening and the morning were the sixth day." 00:08:41.72\00:08:43.75 So we do have evidence in Moses, 00:08:43.79\00:08:47.16 that Adam was made on the sixth day. 00:08:47.19\00:08:51.66 But then it goes on in Chapter 2. 00:08:51.69\00:08:55.43 And why don't you read verses 1, 2, and 3? 00:08:55.46\00:08:59.17 "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, 00:08:59.20\00:09:01.54 and all the host of them. 00:09:01.57\00:09:03.07 And on the seventh day God ended His work, 00:09:03.10\00:09:06.01 which He had made, 00:09:06.04\00:09:07.38 and He rested on the seventh day 00:09:07.41\00:09:09.51 from all His work which He had made. 00:09:09.54\00:09:11.68 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it: 00:09:11.71\00:09:14.45 because that in it He had rested 00:09:14.48\00:09:17.02 from all His work 00:09:17.05\00:09:18.39 which God created and made." 00:09:18.42\00:09:20.39 Okay, let's just make a few points on this. 00:09:20.42\00:09:24.06 The Hadith is right that 00:09:24.09\00:09:27.10 God did make Adam on the sixth day. 00:09:27.13\00:09:29.90 But then it goes on in the Bible in Moses' writings 00:09:29.93\00:09:34.07 that the seventh day was the day that God rested. 00:09:34.10\00:09:36.77 Now, a lot of people think that the Sabbath 00:09:36.81\00:09:39.97 or the seventh day is really a Jewish day. 00:09:40.01\00:09:44.68 I think that's a pretty common view. 00:09:44.71\00:09:47.72 But in Genesis, 00:09:47.75\00:09:49.35 there were no Jews at this point, 00:09:49.38\00:09:51.39 at least in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, 00:09:51.42\00:09:54.56 Adam was not Jewish. 00:09:54.59\00:09:56.79 God didn't make a Jew, He made a man. 00:09:56.83\00:09:59.46 And then He took Eve from Adam, and made Eve. 00:09:59.49\00:10:04.87 So here we have, you know, God resting on the seventh day. 00:10:04.90\00:10:08.40 And, you know, to me, 00:10:08.44\00:10:12.74 there's a disconnect, 00:10:12.77\00:10:15.74 when, as you've told me, in Islam, 00:10:15.78\00:10:19.51 there's a high regard for the writings of Moses 00:10:19.55\00:10:23.12 that Moses' writings are considered to be pure. 00:10:23.15\00:10:26.79 And, you know, referring to Moses' writings whereas, 00:10:26.82\00:10:31.36 you know, describing that Adam was made on the sixth day. 00:10:31.39\00:10:34.00 But then in Moses' writings it continues on 00:10:34.03\00:10:36.50 and says that God ended His work 00:10:36.53\00:10:40.84 and that He rested and He blessed the seventh day 00:10:40.87\00:10:45.37 and He sanctified it. 00:10:45.41\00:10:46.94 And the word sanctified means that He set it apart for man. 00:10:46.98\00:10:51.95 And again, it wasn't a Jewish day. 00:10:51.98\00:10:54.12 And so, you know, we have the Islamic belief 00:10:54.15\00:10:58.02 that Moses' writings are pure. 00:10:58.05\00:11:00.16 And yet in these writings, 00:11:00.19\00:11:02.22 we have the seventh day being the day 00:11:02.26\00:11:07.63 that God set apart for humanity. 00:11:07.66\00:11:11.97 And He did that 00:11:12.00\00:11:13.34 before there was ever sin on earth. 00:11:13.37\00:11:16.14 No Jews and no sin? 00:11:16.17\00:11:17.91 No Jews and no sin, and nobody except Adam, 00:11:17.94\00:11:22.68 and later on Eve, when God made Eve from his rib. 00:11:22.71\00:11:26.48 But this was an act, 00:11:26.51\00:11:28.98 that God was basically blessing this day 00:11:29.02\00:11:32.35 as a remembrance of creation, 00:11:32.39\00:11:35.39 and as a day that man needed to have rest one day. 00:11:35.42\00:11:40.00 And, in fact, when we're talking about rest, 00:11:40.03\00:11:42.73 Muslim communities believe 00:11:42.76\00:11:46.94 that Christians and Jews are in error 00:11:46.97\00:11:49.17 when they say God needed to rest. 00:11:49.20\00:11:50.91 They say God doesn't get tired, why would He need to rest? 00:11:50.94\00:11:53.98 In fact, there is a verse in the Quran, 00:11:54.01\00:11:55.78 if you don't mind I'll read that really quickly. 00:11:55.81\00:11:57.21 Sure. 00:11:57.25\00:11:58.58 This is from Quran, 00:11:58.61\00:12:04.85 Surah 50:38, 00:12:04.89\00:12:06.76 it reads, "And we did certainly 00:12:06.79\00:12:08.69 create the heavens and the earth, 00:12:08.72\00:12:11.59 and what is between them in six days, 00:12:11.63\00:12:14.53 and there touched us no weariness." 00:12:14.56\00:12:17.47 Allah is speaking here in the form of we and us, 00:12:17.50\00:12:20.60 but He's speaking alone. 00:12:20.64\00:12:22.24 But He's saying that, 00:12:22.27\00:12:23.84 "I didn't get tired when I created the world." 00:12:23.87\00:12:26.24 Basically, this is to refute, 00:12:26.27\00:12:31.81 or stand against that text in the Bible 00:12:31.85\00:12:34.35 in Genesis Chapter 2, 00:12:34.38\00:12:35.75 where it says God rested. 00:12:35.78\00:12:37.92 But what they misunderstand is that 00:12:37.95\00:12:40.02 God didn't need to rest. 00:12:40.06\00:12:41.72 He did that to be an example to humanity, 00:12:41.76\00:12:45.83 that we need to rest. 00:12:45.86\00:12:47.36 God made us. 00:12:47.40\00:12:48.73 We're not perfect like in the sense that He is. 00:12:48.76\00:12:51.03 So He made a day of rest for Adam and Eve, 00:12:51.07\00:12:53.27 even in perfection. 00:12:53.30\00:12:54.64 They had to have a day of rest. 00:12:54.67\00:12:56.54 Six days, they were to work, one day, they had to have rest. 00:12:56.57\00:12:59.77 And so they pick on this, 00:12:59.81\00:13:04.98 but they don't come to the conclusion 00:13:05.01\00:13:06.65 and understand that 00:13:06.68\00:13:08.02 the Bible is not saying that God was weary or tired. 00:13:08.05\00:13:10.05 Right. 00:13:10.09\00:13:11.42 There's another verse in Isaiah that says He fainteth not, 00:13:11.45\00:13:13.66 nor He's weary and so. 00:13:13.69\00:13:15.22 That's right. 00:13:15.26\00:13:16.59 And it doesn't really say in Genesis Chapter 2, 00:13:16.62\00:13:19.19 that He was tired, and that's why He rested. 00:13:19.23\00:13:22.86 It says that He did rest on this, 00:13:22.90\00:13:25.60 and He blessed the seventh day 00:13:25.63\00:13:27.14 and He sanctified it, 00:13:27.17\00:13:28.50 meaning that He set it apart for man. 00:13:28.54\00:13:29.87 That's right. 00:13:29.90\00:13:31.24 So you're saying that He did that, 00:13:31.27\00:13:33.07 not because He was worn out, 00:13:33.11\00:13:34.81 but because He was establishing a day 00:13:34.84\00:13:38.25 for humanity? 00:13:38.28\00:13:39.61 That's right. 00:13:39.65\00:13:40.98 It's like a gardener who plants a beautiful garden. 00:13:41.02\00:13:43.59 He's not weary or tired, and he has worked. 00:13:43.62\00:13:46.59 And then he sits on a couch 00:13:46.62\00:13:48.12 and just looks at the work of his hand. 00:13:48.16\00:13:51.46 Basically, God rested from working. 00:13:51.49\00:13:55.96 He paused from His work of creation He paused. 00:13:56.00\00:14:00.74 And that pause, in Hebrew is referred to as rest. 00:14:00.77\00:14:05.27 But it doesn't mean that He was tired. 00:14:05.31\00:14:08.04 In Mark 2:27, Jesus said, 00:14:08.08\00:14:11.15 "'The Sabbath was made for man." 00:14:11.18\00:14:14.22 So that shows that the reason why God rested was 00:14:14.25\00:14:16.89 because He was setting that day apart for man. 00:14:16.92\00:14:19.69 That's right. He rested. 00:14:19.72\00:14:21.36 He made that day for man. 00:14:21.39\00:14:25.23 So I guess, you know, the question would be, 00:14:25.26\00:14:27.60 well, why would He change it later on? 00:14:27.63\00:14:29.73 Why would He change it either, 00:14:29.76\00:14:31.10 you know, a lot of Christians believe 00:14:31.13\00:14:32.77 He changed it to Sunday, 00:14:32.80\00:14:34.44 in honor of the resurrection. 00:14:34.47\00:14:36.54 Although if you really look at Matthew, 00:14:36.57\00:14:38.07 Mark, Luke and John, and beyond that, 00:14:38.11\00:14:42.21 the writings of Paul, there really is no evidence 00:14:42.24\00:14:45.11 in the New Testament, 00:14:45.15\00:14:46.82 that the resurrection of Jesus on Sunday, 00:14:46.85\00:14:50.15 which was also called the first day of the week, 00:14:50.19\00:14:52.69 that changed the day. 00:14:52.72\00:14:55.09 In fact, if you really look closer at Matthew, 00:14:55.12\00:14:57.63 Mark, Luke and John, 00:14:57.66\00:15:00.06 there's no statement of Jesus at all, 00:15:00.10\00:15:05.33 even one time where the words the first day of the week 00:15:05.37\00:15:08.97 came out of His mouth. 00:15:09.00\00:15:10.51 He said nothing about the first day of the week, 00:15:10.54\00:15:12.51 He taught nothing about the first day of the week. 00:15:12.54\00:15:15.08 And in Matthew 28:19-20, 00:15:15.11\00:15:18.48 He told His disciples to go into all the world, 00:15:18.51\00:15:21.12 and to preach the gospel, the good news, 00:15:21.15\00:15:24.29 and then to teach all things 00:15:24.32\00:15:27.42 whatsoever I have commanded you. 00:15:27.46\00:15:30.63 And then He said, "Lo, I'm with you always, 00:15:30.66\00:15:32.06 even to the end of the world." 00:15:32.09\00:15:33.86 And to me, 00:15:33.90\00:15:35.23 that's a very compelling argument, 00:15:35.26\00:15:37.23 that Jesus gave His disciples authority to teach 00:15:37.27\00:15:40.14 only what He taught. 00:15:40.17\00:15:41.94 And He didn't teach anything about Sunday. 00:15:41.97\00:15:44.84 Yes, He did rise on Sunday, 00:15:44.87\00:15:46.81 which was the first day of the week, 00:15:46.84\00:15:48.18 and then He went back to His work of ministry, 00:15:48.21\00:15:51.58 but He didn't teach anything about it. 00:15:51.61\00:15:54.75 So why would God change that day 00:15:54.78\00:16:00.39 way down the line from creation? 00:16:00.42\00:16:04.56 It just, you know, it really doesn't make sense 00:16:04.59\00:16:06.73 if you go back to the original creation. 00:16:06.76\00:16:09.26 It was an original day that He blessed 00:16:09.30\00:16:12.03 and sanctified and set apart for holy use. 00:16:12.07\00:16:15.97 In fact, in the Christian world, 00:16:16.00\00:16:19.04 they have no premise for keeping different day 00:16:19.07\00:16:22.91 than what God in the Bible has already told us 00:16:22.94\00:16:25.28 we should keep, 00:16:25.31\00:16:26.65 which is the seventh day of the week, Saturday. 00:16:26.68\00:16:29.65 We can say that the Muslims at least have some premise 00:16:29.68\00:16:32.05 because they have a book and in their book, 00:16:32.09\00:16:33.46 they're instructed to do this. 00:16:33.49\00:16:35.52 But if you want to look at the continuity of Scripture, 00:16:35.56\00:16:38.96 and of the sacred text, 00:16:38.99\00:16:41.80 that if God is the author of this book, 00:16:41.83\00:16:45.37 then, and He says in Psalms, He says, 00:16:45.40\00:16:47.87 "I'm the Lord, I change not." 00:16:47.90\00:16:49.94 God doesn't make mistakes, 00:16:49.97\00:16:51.31 He doesn't make a decision now 00:16:51.34\00:16:53.68 and then an hour later say, 00:16:53.71\00:16:55.04 "You know what, I made a mistake, 00:16:55.08\00:16:56.41 I shouldn't have made that decision. 00:16:56.44\00:16:58.25 I really messed up." 00:16:58.28\00:16:59.75 God doesn't do that. 00:16:59.78\00:17:01.12 He doesn't change His mind. 00:17:01.15\00:17:03.35 When He established the Sabbath, 00:17:03.39\00:17:05.49 it remains the same. 00:17:05.52\00:17:07.16 In New Testament Christ kept the Sabbath, 00:17:07.19\00:17:09.26 the apostles kept the Sabbath. 00:17:09.29\00:17:11.26 Paul in Acts Chapter 13 keeps the Sabbath 00:17:11.29\00:17:15.33 even with the Greeks, 00:17:15.36\00:17:18.50 the non-Jews, the Gentiles. 00:17:18.53\00:17:22.67 And even John in the last book of the Bible, 00:17:22.70\00:17:25.44 says that he was in the spirit on the Lord's Day, 00:17:25.47\00:17:27.61 which Jesus, in Mark Chapter 2 says that, 00:17:27.64\00:17:29.94 "I am the Lord of the Sabbath." 00:17:29.98\00:17:32.05 And we see that continuity throughout the Scripture. 00:17:32.08\00:17:35.15 And then when we come, in the seventh century, 00:17:35.18\00:17:37.69 when we come to Muhammad, 00:17:37.72\00:17:39.05 suddenly, different revelation is given, 00:17:39.09\00:17:42.29 and that continuity is broken, at least for the Muslims, 00:17:42.32\00:17:46.13 and which is pretty sad, 00:17:46.16\00:17:49.33 because there's a true blessing in keeping the Sabbath of God. 00:17:49.36\00:17:53.13 Now, in Islam, you've told me that 00:17:53.17\00:17:55.97 there's five major prophets, right? 00:17:56.00\00:17:58.17 There are other prophets, 00:17:58.21\00:17:59.54 but the major ones are Adam, right? 00:17:59.57\00:18:02.01 And then Abraham, and then Moses, 00:18:02.04\00:18:05.75 and then Jesus, and then Muhammad. 00:18:05.78\00:18:07.35 That's correct. 00:18:07.38\00:18:08.72 And we know that, you know, Adam was made on the sixth day, 00:18:08.75\00:18:12.92 God rested on the seventh day. 00:18:12.95\00:18:14.72 So Adam would be a Sabbath keeper, 00:18:14.76\00:18:16.79 because He made that day in the beginning for man. 00:18:16.83\00:18:20.00 Abraham, there's really not much information 00:18:20.03\00:18:21.93 about what day he kept. 00:18:21.96\00:18:24.07 And then when you get to Moses, 00:18:24.10\00:18:25.70 it's very clear in Moses' writings 00:18:25.73\00:18:28.97 in Genesis and in the Ten Commandments, 00:18:29.00\00:18:31.04 remember the seventh day, keep that day holy. 00:18:31.07\00:18:34.31 When you look at Jesus, clearly, in Matthew, 00:18:34.34\00:18:37.15 Mark, Luke, and John, 00:18:37.18\00:18:38.51 Jesus was a Sabbath keeper. 00:18:38.55\00:18:39.98 He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath in Luke 4:16, 00:18:40.02\00:18:44.39 He taught about the Sabbath, He said, 00:18:44.42\00:18:45.99 "Pray that your flight be not in winter, 00:18:46.02\00:18:47.52 or on the Sabbath," in Matthew 24:20. 00:18:47.56\00:18:50.99 He said the Sabbath was made for man in Mark 2:27. 00:18:51.03\00:18:54.50 And then when you get to Muhammad, 00:18:54.53\00:18:56.90 and you know, a revelation to keep Friday, 00:18:56.93\00:19:00.87 this would be out of sync 00:19:00.90\00:19:04.21 with the first four apparent 00:19:04.24\00:19:07.81 major prophets in Islam, 00:19:07.84\00:19:10.31 and it's kind of a disconnect, like, why would God do that? 00:19:10.35\00:19:14.75 Why would He establish one day at the beginning? 00:19:14.78\00:19:17.05 Why did He reemphasize it through Moses? 00:19:17.09\00:19:19.89 Why did Jesus keep it? 00:19:19.92\00:19:22.16 And then yet He would then give instruction 00:19:22.19\00:19:24.66 to Muhammad to change it? 00:19:24.69\00:19:26.36 Why invest all of that time and energy 00:19:26.39\00:19:29.70 in teaching something for centuries, 00:19:29.73\00:19:32.90 thousands of years, 00:19:32.93\00:19:34.70 to only change it in the seventh century 00:19:34.74\00:19:37.44 AD and replace it with another day? 00:19:37.47\00:19:40.81 And that's an argument that goes not just to the Muslims, 00:19:40.84\00:19:44.55 but even to Sunday keeping Christians. 00:19:44.58\00:19:47.02 That's right. 00:19:47.05\00:19:48.38 And here's another verse 00:19:48.42\00:19:50.39 in Exodus 31:18, 00:19:50.42\00:19:55.59 that describes when God gave the Ten Commandments. 00:19:55.62\00:19:59.59 31:18 says, "He gave to Moses, 00:19:59.63\00:20:02.03 when He had made an end of communing 00:20:02.06\00:20:03.53 with him upon Mount Sinai, 00:20:03.57\00:20:05.00 two tables of testimony, 00:20:05.03\00:20:06.90 tables of stone, 00:20:06.94\00:20:08.34 written with the finger of God." 00:20:08.37\00:20:11.04 And there's two things that make the Ten Commandments 00:20:11.07\00:20:13.41 unique of all other laws. 00:20:13.44\00:20:16.34 One is, they were written with the finger of God. 00:20:16.38\00:20:19.28 And they were written on stone, a solid rock. 00:20:19.31\00:20:22.58 And when you think of God's finger on rock, 00:20:22.62\00:20:25.45 I mean, the message is that 00:20:25.49\00:20:28.69 this is an unchangeable commandment. 00:20:28.72\00:20:31.46 It's on solid stone. 00:20:31.49\00:20:32.83 It's like, there's a phrase where people say, 00:20:32.86\00:20:35.43 we can change this or that 00:20:35.46\00:20:36.80 because it's not written in stone. 00:20:36.83\00:20:38.17 Yes. 00:20:38.20\00:20:39.53 And that goes back to Moses, and back to God, 00:20:39.57\00:20:41.50 back to the Ten Commandments. 00:20:41.54\00:20:44.41 So now we live in a time 00:20:44.44\00:20:45.91 where the majority of Muslims keep Friday, 00:20:45.94\00:20:50.18 the majority of Christians keep Sunday. 00:20:50.21\00:20:53.18 And a lot of the opposition to Saturday is really 00:20:53.21\00:20:56.32 because of opposition against Jews. 00:20:56.35\00:21:00.02 But when you peel away, 00:21:00.06\00:21:01.62 you know, the layers 00:21:01.66\00:21:02.99 and look at the real Bible Sabbath, 00:21:03.02\00:21:05.63 it's not a Jewish day at all. 00:21:05.66\00:21:08.13 No, it's not. 00:21:08.16\00:21:09.50 It's God's day, He calls it My Holy Day 00:21:09.53\00:21:13.03 in Isaiah 58:13. 00:21:13.07\00:21:15.50 He specifies that's the Sabbath day. 00:21:15.54\00:21:17.67 And Moses didn't come up with that on his own, 00:21:17.71\00:21:20.84 Aaron didn't come up with that on his own, 00:21:20.88\00:21:22.94 God gave them the Sabbath. 00:21:22.98\00:21:24.41 It was a special gift God gave to Adam, 00:21:24.45\00:21:26.98 and it just went hand in hand until Moses. 00:21:27.02\00:21:30.59 When Moses took the responsibility 00:21:30.62\00:21:32.59 of being the prophet and leading Israel from Egypt, 00:21:32.62\00:21:37.43 he inherited what was already revealed 00:21:37.46\00:21:40.46 in the Word of God to Adam, 00:21:40.50\00:21:43.13 and to other men before him, the patriarchs like Abraham. 00:21:43.16\00:21:46.37 Right. 00:21:46.40\00:21:47.74 Now, you shared with us a few programs ago, 00:21:47.77\00:21:50.97 your story, your journey, my journey to peace. 00:21:51.01\00:21:54.11 And there's a lot that I know about your background. 00:21:54.14\00:21:57.85 I don't know that much, but I know some, 00:21:57.88\00:22:00.02 more than what you've shared here. 00:22:00.05\00:22:01.72 And you've told me that you did have, 00:22:01.75\00:22:04.62 was it a dream or a vision, 00:22:04.65\00:22:06.19 specifically about the Sabbath? 00:22:06.22\00:22:08.36 Tell us a little more about that background? 00:22:08.39\00:22:10.56 Yeah. 00:22:10.59\00:22:11.93 At the time, I was actually attending a Sunday church. 00:22:11.96\00:22:15.43 And I didn't know anything about the Sabbath. 00:22:15.46\00:22:18.57 And there was a man, a literature evangelist, 00:22:18.60\00:22:23.10 who sold books that visited this particular 00:22:23.14\00:22:26.88 church one Sunday. 00:22:26.91\00:22:29.04 And at that time, I was seeking to find out what is truth, 00:22:29.08\00:22:32.55 I had just become a Christian. 00:22:32.58\00:22:35.05 That was maybe about six months 00:22:35.08\00:22:37.59 after I had met that man on the road 00:22:37.62\00:22:40.02 in a main street in Walnut Creek, 00:22:40.06\00:22:42.29 that young man who led me to Christ. 00:22:42.32\00:22:44.26 About six months later, sitting in this Sunday church, 00:22:44.29\00:22:47.73 because for a few months, I've been going there, 00:22:47.76\00:22:50.80 but I was not really learning much. 00:22:50.83\00:22:53.67 And I was seeking for truth. 00:22:53.70\00:22:56.10 And at one point, I asked the Lord, I said, 00:22:56.14\00:22:59.31 "Where am I supposed to go? 00:22:59.34\00:23:00.94 I just came out of Islam 00:23:00.98\00:23:02.34 and all these Christian churches, 00:23:02.38\00:23:04.18 I don't know where I'm supposed to go." 00:23:04.21\00:23:05.55 Yeah, confusing. It's confusing. 00:23:05.58\00:23:06.92 It's very confusing, 00:23:06.95\00:23:08.28 people looking for which is the right church. 00:23:08.32\00:23:09.65 It was confusing for me, extremely. 00:23:09.68\00:23:11.82 And then at that moment, this man came, 00:23:11.85\00:23:14.52 a couple of weeks later, 00:23:14.56\00:23:16.26 and he got my name and all that, 00:23:16.29\00:23:18.36 he came to my home 00:23:18.39\00:23:19.73 and he told me about the Sabbath. 00:23:19.76\00:23:21.83 And he was a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:23:21.86\00:23:24.23 And I said, "The Sabbath, what do you mean?" 00:23:24.27\00:23:27.20 And I said, "Wait a minute. 00:23:27.24\00:23:29.10 I used to keep Friday, 00:23:29.14\00:23:30.47 and now I'm keeping Sunday and you're telling me 00:23:30.51\00:23:33.74 I'm supposed to keep another day?" 00:23:33.78\00:23:35.78 But what he said made sense. 00:23:35.81\00:23:37.55 Like a ping pong ball. 00:23:37.58\00:23:38.91 Yeah, like a ping pong ball. Friday, Sunday. 00:23:38.95\00:23:41.78 Yeah, it was just amazing. 00:23:41.82\00:23:44.35 And I prayed about it, I said, "Lord, if this man is from You, 00:23:44.39\00:23:47.82 You make it clear because I'm brand new, 00:23:47.86\00:23:49.59 I don't even know." 00:23:49.62\00:23:50.96 And then at that point, 00:23:50.99\00:23:52.33 there was an evangelist that came to town, 00:23:52.36\00:23:53.70 we Bible studied and all that. 00:23:53.73\00:23:55.40 And I went to the Lord for a final time, 00:23:55.43\00:23:57.10 I said, " Lord," 00:23:57.13\00:23:58.47 and I said, I prayed in my heart, 00:23:58.50\00:24:00.04 Satan cannot read our minds. 00:24:00.07\00:24:01.87 Only God can read our mind. 00:24:01.90\00:24:03.71 And I always pray in my heart, I don't pray out loud. 00:24:03.74\00:24:06.44 And I prayed in my heart, I said, "Father, show me. 00:24:06.47\00:24:11.18 If Saturday is Your day, please make it clear. 00:24:11.21\00:24:14.25 Give me a dream. 00:24:14.28\00:24:15.72 Show me my dream, 00:24:15.75\00:24:17.09 because I'm really confused at this point, 00:24:17.12\00:24:18.92 and I don't know what I'm supposed to do." 00:24:18.95\00:24:20.99 And He gave me a dream that night. 00:24:21.02\00:24:22.76 And in my dream, it was a Sabbath. 00:24:22.79\00:24:25.46 And it was brighter than any other day of the week. 00:24:25.49\00:24:28.20 You know how in the Quran says 00:24:28.23\00:24:29.76 that the sunrises brighter on Friday? 00:24:29.80\00:24:32.77 Well, in my dream, it was Saturday, 00:24:32.80\00:24:34.67 and it was bright, 00:24:34.70\00:24:36.04 brighter than any day of the week. 00:24:36.07\00:24:37.44 And I was led into this church, and in this church, 00:24:37.47\00:24:43.18 it was a Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:24:43.21\00:24:45.18 And there I was shown the Bible. 00:24:45.21\00:24:47.45 And I was shown the writings of God 00:24:47.48\00:24:50.89 in the Bible and all that. 00:24:50.92\00:24:52.65 And it was revealed to me 00:24:52.69\00:24:54.76 in a very, very, very clear way. 00:24:54.79\00:24:58.03 Everything that's truth was in an instant given to me. 00:24:58.06\00:25:01.53 When I woke up, the only thing I didn't remember was that, 00:25:01.56\00:25:04.63 everything else I remember about a dream. 00:25:04.67\00:25:06.70 And God revealed to me in my dream 00:25:06.74\00:25:08.57 that the seventh day Sabbath is His Sabbath, 00:25:08.60\00:25:12.11 and that it is a day that He has made for men, 00:25:12.14\00:25:16.41 not for Himself, but He made it for us. 00:25:16.44\00:25:19.38 And we are supposed to keep it. 00:25:19.41\00:25:21.08 And when I woke up, I rejoiced, 00:25:21.12\00:25:22.85 because I promised Lord that if You show me 00:25:22.88\00:25:25.02 I will forever serve You. 00:25:25.05\00:25:26.52 And He showed me just like, really quickly, 00:25:26.55\00:25:28.62 just like this young man that I told you, 00:25:28.66\00:25:30.89 that I baptized, that he had a problem 00:25:30.93\00:25:32.89 about keeping coming to church. 00:25:32.93\00:25:34.93 When he had that dream. 00:25:34.96\00:25:36.30 In his dream, Jesus told him, 00:25:36.33\00:25:37.67 He said that, "You need to go to church. 00:25:37.70\00:25:39.30 The Sabbath is the most important day 00:25:39.33\00:25:40.97 of the week. 00:25:41.00\00:25:42.34 You need to be in church." 00:25:42.37\00:25:43.97 And that was a wonderful mighty experience. 00:25:44.01\00:25:47.14 So you keep the Sabbath today? 00:25:47.18\00:25:48.58 Yes, I do. 00:25:48.61\00:25:49.94 Not because you're Jewish, which you're not. 00:25:49.98\00:25:51.51 No, I'm not. 00:25:51.55\00:25:52.88 And you believe in Jesus, 00:25:52.91\00:25:54.25 but you don't keep Sunday as a holy day 00:25:54.28\00:25:56.25 because you don't see that in the New Testament? 00:25:56.28\00:25:58.79 Nowhere. 00:25:58.82\00:26:00.16 And you no longer, did you use to go to the mosque on Friday? 00:26:00.19\00:26:03.09 You did, you used to do that? 00:26:03.12\00:26:04.63 Yes, my parents. 00:26:04.66\00:26:07.10 And now you keep the seventh day Sabbath. 00:26:07.13\00:26:09.80 And you've lined up 00:26:09.83\00:26:14.84 with what the fourth commandment 00:26:14.87\00:26:17.87 really says. 00:26:17.91\00:26:19.24 And again, I think we should stress that, 00:26:19.27\00:26:21.18 as you've mentioned, in Islam, 00:26:21.21\00:26:23.88 there is a high regard for the writings of Moses, 00:26:23.91\00:26:29.38 and that they are considered to be pure. 00:26:29.42\00:26:31.72 And when we read the writings of Moses, 00:26:31.75\00:26:33.96 and look at Exodus Chapter 20, 00:26:33.99\00:26:36.12 we have commandment number four, 00:26:36.16\00:26:39.06 where God said, 00:26:39.09\00:26:40.46 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:26:40.50\00:26:45.53 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 00:26:45.57\00:26:49.27 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord." 00:26:49.30\00:26:52.31 It's not the Sabbath of the Jews. 00:26:52.34\00:26:53.71 "It's the Sabbath of the Lord, your God. 00:26:53.74\00:26:56.11 In it, you shall not do any work, 00:26:56.14\00:26:58.08 you or your son, or your daughter 00:26:58.11\00:26:59.78 or your manservant, nor your maidservant, 00:26:59.81\00:27:02.52 nor your cattle, nor your stranger 00:27:02.55\00:27:04.42 that is within your gates. 00:27:04.45\00:27:06.19 For in six days, 00:27:06.22\00:27:08.42 the Lord made heaven and earth, 00:27:08.46\00:27:12.56 the sea, and all that in them is." 00:27:12.59\00:27:15.50 Everything we see around us, 00:27:15.53\00:27:17.97 God made in six days. 00:27:18.00\00:27:19.57 And then He rested, not because He was tired, 00:27:19.60\00:27:21.84 but He was setting this day apart for man. 00:27:21.87\00:27:25.51 "He rested on the seventh day, 00:27:25.54\00:27:27.34 wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, 00:27:27.38\00:27:30.51 and He hallowed it." 00:27:30.55\00:27:32.38 My birthday is April 5, I was born in 1959. 00:27:32.41\00:27:35.68 Every year, it's April 5, because you can't change it. 00:27:35.72\00:27:38.95 The Sabbath is the birthday of the world. 00:27:38.99\00:27:40.79 It's still there, it can't be changed. 00:27:40.82\00:27:43.16 And God tells us don't forget it. 00:27:43.19\00:27:44.99 We hope you enjoyed watching Good News for Muslims 00:27:48.13\00:27:50.57 with Steve Wohlberg and Shahbaz. 00:27:50.60\00:27:53.00 This entire 13-part series is now available on DVD. 00:27:53.03\00:27:57.61 To order from within the US, 00:27:57.64\00:27:59.11 call White Horse Media at 1-800-782-4253. 00:27:59.14\00:28:04.88 To watch the series online or for more information, 00:28:04.91\00:28:07.48 visit the website www.goodnewsformuslims.com 00:28:07.52\00:28:11.85
