The Holy Bible says that the Lord spoke to you 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.10 out of the midst of the fire. 00:00:03.13\00:00:05.07 And you heard the voice of words, 00:00:05.10\00:00:06.67 but you saw no form, you only heard a voice. 00:00:06.70\00:00:10.04 And He declared to you His covenant, 00:00:10.07\00:00:12.71 which He commanded you to perform, 00:00:12.74\00:00:15.21 even Ten Commandments, 00:00:15.24\00:00:17.78 and He wrote them on two tables of stone. 00:00:17.81\00:00:20.75 What exactly are the Ten Commandments? 00:00:20.78\00:00:23.25 When we're done with the next program, 00:00:23.28\00:00:24.89 you will know exactly what they are. 00:00:24.92\00:00:27.26 So join us. 00:00:27.29\00:00:28.62 Welcome back to part 11 of a 13-part series 00:01:20.78\00:01:23.98 dealing with Islamic Christian issues. 00:01:24.01\00:01:27.22 Today we're going to talk about God's requirements, 00:01:27.25\00:01:29.78 what those requirements are, how they relate to us today, 00:01:29.82\00:01:33.36 and what do we do 00:01:33.39\00:01:35.26 when we realize that 00:01:35.29\00:01:36.62 we haven't kept those requirements? 00:01:36.66\00:01:39.09 Shahbaz, thank you again for being here. 00:01:39.13\00:01:41.86 Why don't you start out by just clarifying for us, 00:01:41.90\00:01:44.93 what the average Muslim thinks about obeying God? 00:01:44.97\00:01:48.74 And surely they do believe in the importance of that? 00:01:48.77\00:01:51.84 What does that mean to them? 00:01:51.87\00:01:53.21 What does it mean to obey God today? 00:01:53.24\00:01:56.18 Muslims strongly believe in obeying 00:01:56.21\00:01:58.85 the requirements of Allah, 00:01:58.88\00:02:00.72 and to follow 00:02:00.75\00:02:02.32 whatever He has told them to do. 00:02:02.35\00:02:04.19 And within the Islamic context, 00:02:04.22\00:02:06.35 we have the five pillars of Islam, 00:02:06.39\00:02:08.92 which are really designed to guide the individual's life. 00:02:08.96\00:02:13.43 And those pillars deal with faith, 00:02:13.46\00:02:16.77 for instance, the Shahada 00:02:16.80\00:02:18.30 that deals with the faith of a Muslim. 00:02:18.33\00:02:21.14 And the pillars go like the Shahada, 00:02:21.17\00:02:23.10 we have Salat, which is prayer. 00:02:23.14\00:02:25.21 And then they have Zakat, which is charity, 00:02:25.24\00:02:27.28 that's supporting the poor or giving money to the mosque. 00:02:27.31\00:02:30.88 And then there's Sawm which deals with fasting 00:02:30.91\00:02:33.92 the month of Ramadan, 00:02:33.95\00:02:35.28 which every year, once a year, they do that for one month. 00:02:35.32\00:02:37.92 And that's October. 00:02:37.95\00:02:39.29 Yes, it's not, it's actually closer to the summer months, 00:02:39.32\00:02:43.56 and then and then they have the Hajj, 00:02:43.59\00:02:45.33 which is the pilgrimage, going to Makkah. 00:02:45.36\00:02:49.33 And they do that once during their lifetime. 00:02:49.36\00:02:51.43 At least once during their lifetime. 00:02:51.47\00:02:53.54 Every Muslim is required to do it, 00:02:53.57\00:02:54.94 if they can afford it. 00:02:54.97\00:02:56.37 If they cannot afford it, 00:02:56.40\00:02:58.01 they are poor, they are excused. 00:02:58.04\00:03:00.58 But if they can, if they have money, 00:03:00.61\00:03:02.54 there is no excuse if they don't go on the Hajj. 00:03:02.58\00:03:04.98 And the other aspect of law is the Sharia law, 00:03:05.01\00:03:09.22 which controls, and has jurisdiction 00:03:09.25\00:03:11.55 over every aspect of the Muslim's life. 00:03:11.59\00:03:14.62 It deals with the mosque, it deals with the government, 00:03:14.66\00:03:17.66 it deals with social life, it deals with everything. 00:03:17.69\00:03:20.60 And when a thief steals, and they cut their hand, 00:03:20.63\00:03:23.10 that's part of the Sharia law, 00:03:23.13\00:03:24.57 or when someone's caught in adultery, 00:03:24.60\00:03:27.34 and they're beheaded in Saudi Arabia, 00:03:27.37\00:03:29.97 or stoned in Iran, 00:03:30.01\00:03:31.61 it has to do with the Sharia law. 00:03:31.64\00:03:34.18 And 00:03:34.21\00:03:35.54 so Sharia law is based on the Quran and the Hadith, 00:03:35.58\00:03:38.81 is that correct? 00:03:38.85\00:03:40.18 Yes, absolutely, the Quran and the Hadith. 00:03:40.22\00:03:42.15 And the Hadith basically are the sayings. 00:03:42.18\00:03:46.39 Basically, it's written 00:03:46.42\00:03:51.86 by religious clerics. 00:03:51.89\00:03:54.56 Could be very old, as old as Islam itself. 00:03:54.60\00:03:58.03 But these writings are supposed to guide 00:03:58.07\00:04:01.30 the people into understanding 00:04:01.34\00:04:02.80 how the Prophet lived his life, 00:04:02.84\00:04:04.67 so that they can copy him 00:04:04.71\00:04:06.04 and live like the Prophet lived. 00:04:06.07\00:04:07.88 And when it comes to the Ten Commandments, 00:04:07.91\00:04:09.44 I'm curious, do most Muslims think about 00:04:09.48\00:04:12.48 the Ten Commandments? 00:04:12.51\00:04:13.85 Obviously, they've heard about them, 00:04:13.88\00:04:16.15 do they know what they are? 00:04:16.18\00:04:17.52 They do not know what they are. 00:04:17.55\00:04:19.25 They do think about it, they have heard about them, 00:04:19.29\00:04:21.59 but they do not know what they are. 00:04:21.62\00:04:25.13 And that's something that 00:04:25.16\00:04:28.93 is not even required of them really, necessarily, 00:04:28.96\00:04:31.60 to know exactly what they are. 00:04:31.63\00:04:34.14 Now, you've said 00:04:34.17\00:04:35.74 before that in Islam, 00:04:35.77\00:04:40.48 they don't see the Bible, 00:04:40.51\00:04:43.35 as you know, as all of it 00:04:43.38\00:04:44.95 as being relevant for us today 00:04:44.98\00:04:48.32 are being correct, 00:04:48.35\00:04:49.68 but they do believe in the first five books. 00:04:49.72\00:04:53.02 The first five books of Moses, of all the books in the Bible, 00:04:53.05\00:04:55.56 they would see that as being the highest, 00:04:55.59\00:04:57.43 is that right? 00:04:57.46\00:04:58.79 A large number of Muslims respect 00:04:58.83\00:05:00.53 the writings of Moses, 00:05:00.56\00:05:02.06 and they consider them as still to be pure 00:05:02.10\00:05:06.00 and not have been corrupted. 00:05:06.03\00:05:07.54 Okay. 00:05:07.57\00:05:08.90 Well, let's look at the book of... 00:05:08.94\00:05:10.54 The books of Moses, or at least the second book. 00:05:10.57\00:05:13.88 We have the first book, which is Genesis, 00:05:13.91\00:05:16.21 then there's Exodus, and then Numbers or Leviticus, 00:05:16.24\00:05:21.25 and then Numbers and then Deuteronomy, 00:05:21.28\00:05:23.02 first five books of the Bible. 00:05:23.05\00:05:24.89 And it's in Exodus Chapter 20, 00:05:24.92\00:05:28.12 that we have the Ten Commandments, 00:05:28.16\00:05:30.46 which, you know, really, 00:05:30.49\00:05:34.20 is the primary biblical law 00:05:34.23\00:05:38.00 all throughout the whole book. 00:05:38.03\00:05:39.83 You know, the Ten Commandments were unique, 00:05:39.87\00:05:44.01 they stand apart from any other law, 00:05:44.04\00:05:47.51 because they were spoken, 00:05:47.54\00:05:50.45 and then written with the finger of God Himself 00:05:50.48\00:05:53.85 on two tablets of stone. 00:05:53.88\00:05:56.02 And, you know, I've been impressed 00:05:56.05\00:05:57.89 with Chapter 19, 00:05:57.92\00:05:59.42 describing the circumstances of the giving of the law, 00:05:59.45\00:06:03.06 when Israel came out of Egypt, 00:06:03.09\00:06:04.69 they gathered together at the foot of the mountain. 00:06:04.73\00:06:07.86 And in verse 16, Exodus 19:16, 00:06:07.90\00:06:11.17 "It came to pass on the third day 00:06:11.20\00:06:12.53 in the morning, 00:06:12.57\00:06:13.90 that there were thunders and lightnings. 00:06:13.94\00:06:15.37 And there was a thick cloud on the mount 00:06:15.40\00:06:17.41 and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud, 00:06:17.44\00:06:19.71 so that all the people that were in the camp trembled. 00:06:19.74\00:06:22.94 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp 00:06:22.98\00:06:25.08 to meet with God, 00:06:25.11\00:06:26.45 and they stood at the southern part 00:06:26.48\00:06:29.48 of the mountain." 00:06:29.52\00:06:30.92 Verse 18, "And Mount Sinai was all together on a smoke, 00:06:30.95\00:06:35.62 because the Lord descended upon it in fire, 00:06:35.66\00:06:39.56 and the smoke thereof was as the smoke of a furnace, 00:06:39.59\00:06:44.93 and the whole mountain quaked greatly." 00:06:44.97\00:06:47.54 So what a scene. Amen. 00:06:47.57\00:06:49.14 You know, there's all these people there 00:06:49.17\00:06:50.54 at the foot of the mountain, 00:06:50.57\00:06:51.91 the lower part of the mountain, 00:06:51.94\00:06:53.27 and then they look up and they see, 00:06:53.31\00:06:54.64 you know, this cloud, this fire, 00:06:54.68\00:06:58.21 they hear this trumpet sound, and people are just terrified. 00:06:58.25\00:07:01.15 Yeah. 00:07:01.18\00:07:02.52 I don't think, you know, there's never been a time 00:07:02.55\00:07:03.92 in history 00:07:03.95\00:07:05.82 when God, the God of creation has revealed Himself 00:07:05.85\00:07:11.23 with such fireworks... 00:07:11.26\00:07:12.96 Amen. 00:07:12.99\00:07:14.33 As He did on this mountain, on Mount Sinai. 00:07:14.36\00:07:19.27 And the reason why He did this was 00:07:19.30\00:07:20.64 because He was about to give 00:07:20.67\00:07:23.91 the people the Ten Commandments. 00:07:23.94\00:07:25.31 That's right. 00:07:25.34\00:07:26.68 So why don't we just briefly go through these, 00:07:26.71\00:07:29.51 as you mentioned, most Muslims, 00:07:29.54\00:07:31.18 you know, don't really think about them. 00:07:31.21\00:07:33.15 And it's not just Muslims. 00:07:33.18\00:07:34.52 It's, you know, the average person. 00:07:34.55\00:07:35.95 People haven't heard about the Ten Commandments, 00:07:35.98\00:07:37.49 they probably, you know, maybe watch the movie, 00:07:37.52\00:07:39.39 The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston 00:07:39.42\00:07:41.82 coming down off the mountain, 00:07:41.86\00:07:43.36 and his hair was white, and his beard was white 00:07:43.39\00:07:46.16 because he'd encountered God, 00:07:46.19\00:07:49.13 but actually knowing 00:07:49.16\00:07:50.50 what those Ten Commandments are, 00:07:50.53\00:07:52.37 most people have no clue. 00:07:52.40\00:07:54.44 So why don't we just go through them? 00:07:54.47\00:07:55.80 Why don't you just lead out 00:07:55.84\00:07:57.41 and just starting 00:07:57.44\00:08:01.24 and just kind of quickly, 00:08:01.28\00:08:02.61 you know, let's just go through them. 00:08:02.64\00:08:04.41 Okay. 00:08:04.45\00:08:06.21 Verse 1 and 2 is the first commandment. 00:08:06.25\00:08:08.18 It says, "And God spake all these words, 00:08:08.22\00:08:10.22 saying, I am the Lord thy God, 00:08:10.25\00:08:12.59 which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, 00:08:12.62\00:08:15.82 out of the house of bondage." 00:08:15.86\00:08:17.19 And verse 3 as well, 00:08:17.23\00:08:18.56 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." 00:08:18.59\00:08:20.50 That's the first commandment. Okay. 00:08:20.53\00:08:21.86 So what's the essence of this commandment? 00:08:21.90\00:08:24.63 The essence is that 00:08:24.67\00:08:26.00 I'm the only God in the universe, 00:08:26.03\00:08:28.34 you will have no other gods before me. 00:08:28.37\00:08:30.24 You're not to make anything to be a god before Me. 00:08:30.27\00:08:34.08 He's number one. He's number one. 00:08:34.11\00:08:35.71 And He's a powerful God, 00:08:35.74\00:08:37.08 because He's the one that plagued the Egyptians, 00:08:37.11\00:08:41.55 parted the Red Sea, brought the Israelites out, 00:08:41.58\00:08:44.69 revealed Himself in a fiery way, 00:08:44.72\00:08:48.76 and in a loving way, because He delivered them. 00:08:48.79\00:08:51.66 You know, and it's also significant that 00:08:51.69\00:08:53.46 the final straw to get them out of Egypt 00:08:53.50\00:08:55.93 was the Passover, 00:08:55.96\00:08:57.40 where they were told to take the blood of a lamb 00:08:57.43\00:09:00.67 and put it around their doors, 00:09:00.70\00:09:02.97 so that when the angel of death 00:09:03.00\00:09:04.41 in the 10th plague passed through, 00:09:04.44\00:09:07.14 he would pass over their homes, 00:09:07.18\00:09:09.68 because of the blood. 00:09:09.71\00:09:11.05 Amen. 00:09:11.08\00:09:12.41 And we can talk more about that before we're done. 00:09:12.45\00:09:13.78 That's right. 00:09:13.82\00:09:15.15 And God established His divinity 00:09:15.18\00:09:17.32 before He gave them the Ten Commandments 00:09:17.35\00:09:19.29 through the miracles 00:09:19.32\00:09:20.76 and through the wonders He performed in Egypt. 00:09:20.79\00:09:23.49 He showed them that He is God. 00:09:23.53\00:09:24.86 He showed them His power and He delivered them 00:09:24.89\00:09:27.20 and then He gave them His law. 00:09:27.23\00:09:30.97 So keeping the law springs from an appreciation 00:09:31.00\00:09:35.87 of being delivered and of being delivered. 00:09:35.90\00:09:37.97 Amen. 00:09:38.01\00:09:39.34 Okay, so first commandment, God is first. 00:09:39.37\00:09:41.28 Now second commandment? 00:09:41.31\00:09:42.64 Second commandment deals with more detailed. 00:09:42.68\00:09:46.55 It's similar to the first commandment 00:09:46.58\00:09:47.92 where He says, 00:09:47.95\00:09:49.28 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images, 00:09:49.32\00:09:51.92 or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven 00:09:51.95\00:09:54.56 above or that is in the earth beneath 00:09:54.59\00:09:56.86 or that is in the water under the earth. 00:09:56.89\00:09:59.79 Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, 00:09:59.83\00:10:01.70 nor serve them: 00:10:01.73\00:10:03.06 for I the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, 00:10:03.10\00:10:05.23 visiting the iniquity of the fathers 00:10:05.27\00:10:07.34 upon the children unto the third 00:10:07.37\00:10:08.87 and the fourth generation of them that hate Me, 00:10:08.90\00:10:11.31 and showing mercy unto thousands of them 00:10:11.34\00:10:13.44 that love Me and keep My commandments." 00:10:13.48\00:10:16.08 You know, Islam is very strong on this one, right? 00:10:16.11\00:10:18.41 Yes. 00:10:18.45\00:10:19.78 Mohammed got rid of the idols in Mecca. 00:10:19.81\00:10:22.98 That's right. 00:10:23.02\00:10:24.35 And idolatry 00:10:24.39\00:10:25.72 is strongly frowned upon in Islam. 00:10:25.75\00:10:29.12 That's right. 00:10:29.16\00:10:30.49 Okay, no idols. No idols. 00:10:30.53\00:10:33.09 And the third commandment deals 00:10:33.13\00:10:34.63 with holding God's name in respect. 00:10:34.66\00:10:39.00 "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, 00:10:39.03\00:10:42.07 for the Lord will not hold him guiltless 00:10:42.10\00:10:44.31 that taketh His name in vain." 00:10:44.34\00:10:46.24 So when we speak of God, 00:10:46.27\00:10:47.61 we should speak of Him reverently 00:10:47.64\00:10:49.01 and respectfully, 00:10:49.04\00:10:50.88 and not just use His name as a swear word 00:10:50.91\00:10:54.48 or just in a trivial way. 00:10:54.52\00:10:56.52 That's right. 00:10:56.55\00:10:57.89 But when the words about God come out of your mouth, 00:10:57.92\00:11:02.19 they should be with reverence. 00:11:02.22\00:11:03.69 That's right. 00:11:03.73\00:11:05.06 And so far, all these verses that we read, 00:11:05.09\00:11:06.46 these three commandments deal with our relationship to God. 00:11:06.49\00:11:09.46 Okay. 00:11:09.50\00:11:10.83 And the fourth one is, likewise, and it says, 00:11:10.87\00:11:14.14 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:11:14.17\00:11:16.50 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work. 00:11:16.54\00:11:18.81 But the seventh day is a Sabbath 00:11:18.84\00:11:20.31 of the Lord thy God: 00:11:20.34\00:11:21.68 in it thou shalt do not do any work, 00:11:21.71\00:11:24.38 thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, 00:11:24.41\00:11:26.68 thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, 00:11:26.72\00:11:29.35 nor thy cattle, 00:11:29.38\00:11:30.79 nor the stranger that is within thy gates. 00:11:30.82\00:11:33.86 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, 00:11:33.89\00:11:36.52 the sea, and all that is in them, 00:11:36.56\00:11:38.66 and rested the seventh day: 00:11:38.69\00:11:40.60 wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day 00:11:40.63\00:11:42.43 and hallowed it." 00:11:42.46\00:11:43.87 Okay, so the seventh day is God's Sabbath. 00:11:43.90\00:11:46.47 And that goes back to creation, right? 00:11:46.50\00:11:49.17 That's right. 00:11:49.20\00:11:50.54 Goes back to the original creation week 00:11:50.57\00:11:52.34 in Genesis Chapter 1 and 2, 00:11:52.37\00:11:54.48 where the Lord God made the world in six days, 00:11:54.51\00:11:57.81 and rested on the seventh day. 00:11:57.85\00:11:59.61 And so He says, "Remember that, don't forget that." 00:11:59.65\00:12:01.38 That's right. 00:12:01.42\00:12:02.75 That day, and we'll talk more about that later. 00:12:02.78\00:12:04.59 Now let's go on to the fifth commandment. 00:12:04.62\00:12:06.05 And fifth commandment, 00:12:06.09\00:12:07.42 from here deals with our relationship 00:12:07.46\00:12:08.96 with each other, human to human. 00:12:08.99\00:12:11.89 And it says, "Honor thy father and thy mother: 00:12:11.93\00:12:16.40 that thy days may be long upon the land 00:12:16.43\00:12:18.90 which the Lord thy God giveth thee." 00:12:18.93\00:12:21.70 And with Islam I understand, 00:12:21.74\00:12:23.37 you know, there's a strong family unit. 00:12:23.41\00:12:25.77 That's correct. 00:12:25.81\00:12:27.14 And in a definite, you know, respect for one's parents. 00:12:27.18\00:12:31.78 Parents must be respected. 00:12:31.81\00:12:33.75 And it's interesting that this commandment 00:12:33.78\00:12:35.42 is very gender specific, 00:12:35.45\00:12:36.79 you know, these days there's a lot of gender confusion. 00:12:36.82\00:12:38.49 Yes. 00:12:38.52\00:12:39.85 But the fifth commandment is your father and your mother. 00:12:39.89\00:12:42.72 That's correct. 00:12:42.76\00:12:44.13 It's not talking about having two fathers or two mothers, 00:12:44.16\00:12:47.93 but it's the traditional family. 00:12:47.96\00:12:50.67 And God made man. 00:12:50.70\00:12:52.83 He knows best. 00:12:52.87\00:12:54.47 That's the way He laid it down. 00:12:54.50\00:12:55.84 That's right. Okay, number six. 00:12:55.87\00:12:57.21 Number six, simple, "Thou shalt not kill." 00:12:57.24\00:12:59.61 Okay, let's talk about this. 00:12:59.64\00:13:00.98 This is a big one. 00:13:01.01\00:13:02.34 Now, here God is dealing with, 00:13:02.38\00:13:03.98 you know, first it's our relationship with Him, 00:13:04.01\00:13:05.75 and then it's this way, 00:13:05.78\00:13:07.35 our relationship with others. 00:13:07.38\00:13:08.72 And you shall not kill. 00:13:08.75\00:13:10.65 You know, the obvious meaning of this has to do with, 00:13:10.69\00:13:13.62 you know, taking somebody's life, right? 00:13:13.66\00:13:15.52 Murder. 00:13:15.56\00:13:16.89 I think some translations say murder. 00:13:16.93\00:13:18.26 That's right. 00:13:18.29\00:13:19.63 But there's a deeper meaning to this, isn't there? 00:13:19.66\00:13:21.33 Yes. 00:13:21.36\00:13:23.43 You know, God doesn't want us not just to kill 00:13:23.47\00:13:27.30 because we are not supposed to kill someone 00:13:27.34\00:13:29.94 or we shouldn't be killing ourselves. 00:13:29.97\00:13:32.71 Suicide is not permitted in the Word of God. 00:13:32.74\00:13:37.21 It's murder. 00:13:37.25\00:13:39.78 And killing ourselves through practices, 00:13:39.81\00:13:42.65 unhealthy practices, you know, smoking, 00:13:42.68\00:13:45.52 drinking, eating unhealthy foods, 00:13:45.55\00:13:48.42 and that shortens our life, 00:13:48.46\00:13:50.23 God will hold us accountable for all these things. 00:13:50.26\00:13:53.09 So it's not just me murdering someone else, 00:13:53.13\00:13:55.30 but it's me murdering me by the way I live? 00:13:55.33\00:13:58.03 That's right. Yeah. Okay. 00:13:58.07\00:14:00.10 Now, in the New Testament, 00:14:00.14\00:14:03.81 Jesus also shined a light on this 00:14:03.84\00:14:06.01 and talked about murder and applied it to the heart, 00:14:06.04\00:14:10.61 to hating people. 00:14:10.65\00:14:11.98 And in 1 John, it also talks about 00:14:12.01\00:14:14.95 "He who hates his brother in his heart is a murderer." 00:14:14.98\00:14:17.62 Is a murderer. 00:14:17.65\00:14:18.99 So murder is not just, you know, killing somebody, 00:14:19.02\00:14:22.39 but it's also killing ourselves and hating other people. 00:14:22.42\00:14:26.53 That's correct. 00:14:26.56\00:14:27.90 This is a deep commandment, actually. 00:14:27.93\00:14:30.43 Absolutely. 00:14:30.47\00:14:32.47 Now, you know, in the last program, 00:14:32.50\00:14:34.24 we talked about jihad, 00:14:34.27\00:14:36.91 and about suicide bombers and terrorists, 00:14:36.94\00:14:40.81 and those that got into hijacked planes 00:14:40.84\00:14:42.74 and flew them into the Twin Towers. 00:14:42.78\00:14:46.72 And from what I've learned, 00:14:46.75\00:14:49.92 and correct me if I'm wrong, 00:14:49.95\00:14:51.82 in Islam, at least for some, or for a percentage of them, 00:14:51.85\00:14:57.36 they feel like if they can kill themselves 00:14:57.39\00:15:01.36 as martyrs in the war of God, 00:15:01.40\00:15:06.23 that then they're guaranteed heaven. 00:15:06.27\00:15:08.10 Yes. Is that right? 00:15:08.14\00:15:09.47 That's correct. 00:15:09.50\00:15:10.91 Automatic ticket to heaven. 00:15:10.94\00:15:12.44 And what is the reward? 00:15:12.47\00:15:13.91 That they will get 70 houris or 70 virgins 00:15:13.94\00:15:17.55 that they will for all eternity. 00:15:17.58\00:15:22.25 But the Bible says you're not to kill yourself. 00:15:22.28\00:15:24.99 Murder, even for God, 00:15:25.02\00:15:27.59 killing yourself is not permissible. 00:15:27.62\00:15:30.46 God has never asked anyone to kill themselves for Him 00:15:30.49\00:15:34.10 in the entire Old and New Testament. 00:15:34.13\00:15:36.87 Now if somebody is martyred 00:15:36.90\00:15:40.17 because they were following Christ 00:15:40.20\00:15:42.27 and they were killed for Him, 00:15:42.30\00:15:44.31 they didn't kill themselves... 00:15:44.34\00:15:47.01 They're persecuted... 00:15:47.04\00:15:48.38 They were persecuted and then they were killed. 00:15:48.41\00:15:49.78 For being followers of God. Yes. 00:15:49.81\00:15:51.28 That's different. 00:15:51.31\00:15:52.65 And even then, they're not going to get 70 virgins. 00:15:52.68\00:15:54.52 Yeah. 00:15:54.55\00:15:55.88 That to me just, 00:15:55.92\00:15:57.25 you know, it's rather outrageous to think 00:15:57.29\00:16:00.86 that if I kill other people, 00:16:00.89\00:16:04.63 and then kill myself in the act of doing this, 00:16:04.66\00:16:08.00 then I'm, you know, earning my way to heaven, 00:16:08.03\00:16:10.53 I get a ticket to heaven, and I'll be rewarded 00:16:10.57\00:16:13.03 with all these women on the other side. 00:16:13.07\00:16:16.50 You know, I think, you know, that whole mindset 00:16:16.54\00:16:19.71 needs to run right into this commandment, 00:16:19.74\00:16:22.84 where God says, "You shall not kill." 00:16:22.88\00:16:25.28 So you know, killing other people 00:16:25.31\00:16:27.88 in that way 00:16:27.92\00:16:29.25 is not a ticket to heaven, 00:16:29.28\00:16:30.85 but it's a big mistake. 00:16:30.89\00:16:32.69 And it's a violation of the law of God 00:16:32.72\00:16:36.69 that He gave on Mount Sinai, 00:16:36.73\00:16:38.89 in thunder, and cloud and fire, 00:16:38.93\00:16:42.53 and wrote with His own finger. 00:16:42.56\00:16:44.93 Now, let's look at the next one. 00:16:44.97\00:16:46.63 Number seven. 00:16:46.67\00:16:48.00 Number seven, "Thou shalt not commit adultery." 00:16:48.04\00:16:52.24 Okay, explain. 00:16:52.27\00:16:53.61 Well, you know, adultery here is speaking about 00:16:53.64\00:16:57.51 a man being unfaithful to his wife 00:16:57.55\00:16:59.38 or a woman being unfaithful to her husband, 00:16:59.41\00:17:02.12 or having 00:17:02.15\00:17:06.96 physical sexual contact 00:17:06.99\00:17:08.82 with someone outside of the marriage 00:17:08.86\00:17:10.73 is also covered here. 00:17:10.76\00:17:12.46 But Jesus Christ in Matthew Chapter 5 00:17:12.49\00:17:15.73 made it even more meaningful when He said, 00:17:15.76\00:17:19.50 "I tell you, you had heard in the past that they said, 00:17:19.53\00:17:21.80 "Thou shalt not commit adultery. 00:17:21.84\00:17:23.17 But I tell you, if you look upon a woman 00:17:23.20\00:17:24.61 to lust after her, 00:17:24.64\00:17:25.97 you have already committed adultery 00:17:26.01\00:17:27.71 with her in your heart." 00:17:27.74\00:17:29.31 And this is something that 00:17:29.34\00:17:30.68 this principle doesn't exist in Islam. 00:17:30.71\00:17:32.88 Adultery is just a physical action. 00:17:32.91\00:17:35.02 But Christ said that 00:17:35.05\00:17:36.38 you can commit adultery in your mind. 00:17:36.42\00:17:39.12 And so Christ has put this commandment, 00:17:39.15\00:17:43.83 His jurisdiction goes far beyond 00:17:43.86\00:17:46.86 just the physical act. 00:17:46.90\00:17:49.30 And it has jurisdiction over our mind as well. 00:17:49.33\00:17:52.20 And isn't it true that in the history of Islam, 00:17:52.23\00:17:55.04 there's been a lot of, you know, conquests 00:17:55.07\00:17:59.34 where women have been taken, 00:17:59.37\00:18:01.51 and sexual activities have gone on, 00:18:01.54\00:18:06.08 which really would be a violation 00:18:06.11\00:18:08.88 of this commandment. 00:18:08.92\00:18:10.25 That's correct. 00:18:10.29\00:18:11.62 Do not commit adultery, 00:18:11.65\00:18:12.99 don't take somebody's wife that's not your wife, 00:18:13.02\00:18:15.39 be faithful to your spouse. 00:18:15.42\00:18:17.59 And then even deeper than that, don't even look as Jesus said, 00:18:17.63\00:18:21.30 "Don't even look lustfully upon a woman 00:18:21.33\00:18:24.03 or you've committed adultery in your heart." 00:18:24.07\00:18:26.67 The wives are of the enemies of Islam, 00:18:26.70\00:18:29.30 or the unbelievers or the idolaters. 00:18:29.34\00:18:32.01 Their wives are the properties 00:18:32.04\00:18:34.11 of whenever they take over an area like that, 00:18:34.14\00:18:36.98 the women of that area are the properties of the men, 00:18:37.01\00:18:40.62 they're part of their gift, 00:18:40.65\00:18:45.75 and they're legal to them. 00:18:45.79\00:18:47.12 The booty? Yes, they can... 00:18:47.16\00:18:49.76 So even this notion that in heaven 00:18:49.79\00:18:51.73 they will have 70 virgins, 00:18:51.76\00:18:55.70 that's breaking that commandment as well. 00:18:55.73\00:18:58.47 It's impure. That's correct. 00:18:58.50\00:19:00.10 You know, so the suicide bombers 00:19:00.14\00:19:04.64 are violating the sixth commandment 00:19:04.67\00:19:07.44 about murder, and conquest 00:19:07.48\00:19:11.21 and taking other men's wives. 00:19:11.25\00:19:13.98 And that kind of, you know, sexual immorality is violating 00:19:14.02\00:19:17.92 the seventh commandment. 00:19:17.95\00:19:19.29 That's correct. 00:19:19.32\00:19:20.66 That's right. 00:19:20.69\00:19:22.02 Okay, now, number eight. 00:19:22.06\00:19:23.39 Number eight, "Thou shalt not steal." 00:19:23.43\00:19:25.79 And very simple, very easy. 00:19:25.83\00:19:27.86 Pretty obvious. Obvious. 00:19:27.90\00:19:29.30 Yeah, don't take what's not yours. 00:19:29.33\00:19:30.67 That's correct. 00:19:30.70\00:19:32.03 Somebody once stole my car. 00:19:32.07\00:19:33.80 Long time ago, I walked out of my house 00:19:33.84\00:19:35.47 and my car wasn't there. 00:19:35.50\00:19:36.94 And I just was shocked. 00:19:36.97\00:19:38.91 Felt violated. Yeah. 00:19:38.94\00:19:40.44 So, you know, protect, 00:19:40.48\00:19:42.74 you know, stick with your own property. 00:19:42.78\00:19:45.75 Don't take somebody else's property. 00:19:45.78\00:19:47.32 Amen. Okay, number nine. 00:19:47.35\00:19:48.68 Number nine, "Thou shalt not bear false witness 00:19:48.72\00:19:50.99 against thy neighbor." 00:19:51.02\00:19:52.35 Basically don't bear false witness, don't lie. 00:19:52.39\00:19:56.19 And there is no excuse for white lies either. 00:19:56.22\00:19:59.39 I mean, there's no... 00:19:59.43\00:20:01.56 If my life is in danger, that doesn't give me an excuse, 00:20:01.60\00:20:05.10 I can lie and in order to protect myself. 00:20:05.13\00:20:09.50 Isn't lying justified? 00:20:09.54\00:20:10.94 I mean, in some circles, 00:20:10.97\00:20:12.97 you know, 'The end justifies the means, ' principle 00:20:13.01\00:20:14.98 that it's okay to lie 00:20:15.01\00:20:16.61 if you're doing it for God? 00:20:16.64\00:20:21.58 In fact, in the Muslim tradition, 00:20:21.62\00:20:24.79 there is grounds 00:20:24.82\00:20:26.29 for lying in order to save your life 00:20:26.32\00:20:29.49 and or promote the cause of Islam. 00:20:29.52\00:20:32.69 And this happens quite regularly, 00:20:32.73\00:20:36.03 but the Bible is very clear, 00:20:36.06\00:20:37.40 "Thou shalt not lie." 00:20:37.43\00:20:38.77 "Thou shalt not bear false witness 00:20:38.80\00:20:40.14 against somebody." 00:20:40.17\00:20:42.94 When you look at Jesus' life, He never lied. 00:20:42.97\00:20:44.94 No. 00:20:44.97\00:20:46.31 It says, you know, one of His regular phrases was, 00:20:46.34\00:20:50.05 "I tell you the truth, I tell you the truth, 00:20:50.08\00:20:51.71 I tell you the truth," 00:20:51.75\00:20:53.08 and Jesus did something that no other religious teacher 00:20:53.11\00:20:56.02 has ever done. 00:20:56.05\00:20:57.39 He said, "Which one of you convinces me of sin?" 00:20:57.42\00:21:01.36 You know, there was no sin in Him. 00:21:01.39\00:21:02.96 There was nothing that He did that was wrong. 00:21:02.99\00:21:05.66 And even Pontius Pilate when he finally questioned Him 00:21:05.69\00:21:09.03 before he turned Him over to the mob, 00:21:09.06\00:21:10.93 he walked out and he said, 00:21:10.97\00:21:12.30 "I find no fault with this man at all." 00:21:12.33\00:21:15.07 Amen. 00:21:15.10\00:21:16.44 You know, he washed his hands off 00:21:16.47\00:21:17.81 the whole thing 00:21:17.84\00:21:19.17 'cause he knew Jesus was an innocent, 00:21:19.21\00:21:20.71 faultless man. 00:21:20.74\00:21:22.08 Amen. 00:21:22.11\00:21:23.45 And Jesus kept all these commandments. 00:21:23.48\00:21:24.81 He said, "I've kept My Father's commandments." 00:21:24.85\00:21:27.18 Amen. Okay, number 10. 00:21:27.22\00:21:28.55 Number 10, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, 00:21:28.58\00:21:32.19 thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, 00:21:32.22\00:21:35.92 nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, 00:21:35.96\00:21:38.86 nor his ox, nor his ass, 00:21:38.89\00:21:41.53 nor anything that is thy neighbor's." 00:21:41.56\00:21:44.60 So covetousness is more than just, 00:21:44.63\00:21:48.24 you know, we're not just talking about 00:21:48.27\00:21:49.74 physical actions. 00:21:49.77\00:21:51.11 Now we're talking about the heart. 00:21:51.14\00:21:52.47 That's correct. You covet in your heart. 00:21:52.51\00:21:54.84 You want something that somebody else 00:21:54.88\00:21:56.98 has in your heart. 00:21:57.01\00:21:59.31 So the Ten Commandments really go deeper 00:21:59.35\00:22:01.98 than just physical actions. 00:22:02.02\00:22:04.09 They go to the mind, they go to the heart, 00:22:04.12\00:22:05.69 they go to the soul, and like Jesus said, 00:22:05.72\00:22:07.59 "Looking lustfully is adultery." 00:22:07.62\00:22:09.66 And 1 John, it says that 00:22:09.69\00:22:12.09 "Hitting your brother is murder." 00:22:12.13\00:22:14.03 And so this shows us, 00:22:14.06\00:22:15.66 you know, that the Ten Commandments 00:22:15.70\00:22:18.00 go deep into the human heart, 00:22:18.03\00:22:20.67 and they appeal to the human conscience, 00:22:20.70\00:22:23.10 you know, the conscience that God gave us, tells us 00:22:23.14\00:22:26.84 that we should put Him first, 00:22:26.88\00:22:28.21 we shouldn't have any idols, 00:22:28.24\00:22:29.58 we should respect His name, 00:22:29.61\00:22:31.68 we should honor our parents, 00:22:31.71\00:22:33.05 don't murder, don't commit adultery, 00:22:33.08\00:22:34.85 don't steal, don't lie, don't covet. 00:22:34.88\00:22:37.12 You know, these are basic principles 00:22:37.15\00:22:38.62 that appeal to the human conscience. 00:22:38.65\00:22:41.72 That's right. 00:22:41.76\00:22:43.09 Now, then, when you look at the rest of it, 00:22:43.12\00:22:44.59 or right after that, verses 18 to 20, says 00:22:44.63\00:22:48.50 "All the people saw the thunderings, 00:22:48.53\00:22:50.40 and the lightnings, 00:22:50.43\00:22:51.77 and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking 00:22:51.80\00:22:53.64 and when the people saw it, 00:22:53.67\00:22:55.00 they removed and stood afar off. 00:22:55.04\00:22:56.67 And they said to Moses, speak, 00:22:56.71\00:22:58.64 you speak with us, and we will hear, 00:22:58.67\00:23:00.68 but let not God speak with us lest we die." 00:23:00.71\00:23:02.98 They were so overwhelmed by the voice of God 00:23:03.01\00:23:04.88 and all the fireworks. 00:23:04.91\00:23:07.02 And then verse 20, said, "Moses said to the people, 00:23:07.05\00:23:09.62 fear not for God has come to prove you, 00:23:09.65\00:23:12.92 or test you." 00:23:12.95\00:23:14.96 I think some Bible say 00:23:14.99\00:23:16.52 that "His fear may be before your faces 00:23:16.56\00:23:19.23 or His reverence and respect, 00:23:19.26\00:23:21.73 that you sin not." 00:23:21.76\00:23:23.43 Amen. 00:23:23.47\00:23:25.40 He says that you sin not. 00:23:29.10\00:23:32.04 Is there a concept of sin in Islam? 00:23:32.07\00:23:34.28 I would imagine that word sin, do they talk about sin? 00:23:34.31\00:23:36.98 There is. 00:23:37.01\00:23:38.58 But it's not based on the Ten Commandments. 00:23:38.61\00:23:40.35 You know, in the Bible, we say, 00:23:40.38\00:23:41.92 a sin is a transgression of the law. 00:23:41.95\00:23:44.89 But in Islam, they don't have that view. 00:23:44.92\00:23:47.82 A clear view. No. 00:23:47.86\00:23:50.26 But Moses, whom Muslims respect, 00:23:50.29\00:23:54.40 is saying that God gave us the Ten Commandments 00:23:54.43\00:23:57.63 so that we won't sin. 00:23:57.67\00:23:59.10 That's right. 00:23:59.13\00:24:00.47 And that tells us that sin, by definition, 00:24:00.50\00:24:04.01 is going against these commandments. 00:24:04.04\00:24:06.27 It's a sin to have other gods before God, 00:24:06.31\00:24:08.54 it's a sin to have idols, 00:24:08.58\00:24:09.91 it's a sin to take His name in vain, 00:24:09.94\00:24:11.61 it's a sin not to keep the Sabbath, 00:24:11.65\00:24:13.62 it's a sin not to honor and respect our parents, 00:24:13.65\00:24:16.55 to murder or hate, or commit adultery, 00:24:16.58\00:24:21.39 or have sexual immorality, or steal, or lie, or covet. 00:24:21.42\00:24:26.16 These are all sins in the Bible. 00:24:26.19\00:24:29.83 And then we know that both the Old Testament 00:24:29.86\00:24:33.84 and the teachings of Jesus 00:24:33.87\00:24:36.34 show that the summary of the law is love 00:24:36.37\00:24:41.01 that the first four commandments 00:24:41.04\00:24:42.44 have to do with love to God with all your heart, 00:24:42.48\00:24:45.41 soul, mind and strength. 00:24:45.45\00:24:47.08 And the last six have to do 00:24:47.12\00:24:48.98 with loving your neighbor as yourself. 00:24:49.02\00:24:51.32 That's right. 00:24:51.35\00:24:52.69 So God's law is a law of love. 00:24:52.72\00:24:54.42 And if everybody kept this law, 00:24:54.46\00:24:56.76 you know, there'd be no prisons, 00:24:56.79\00:24:58.13 there'd be no jails, there'd be no suicide bombers, 00:24:58.16\00:25:01.53 it would be a wonderful place this world. 00:25:01.56\00:25:03.97 That's right. 00:25:04.00\00:25:05.87 In fact, just backtracking just a few seconds 00:25:05.90\00:25:08.60 about the sixth commandment, 00:25:08.64\00:25:10.57 "Thou shalt not kill." 00:25:10.61\00:25:12.77 I just want to emphasize that 00:25:12.81\00:25:14.21 in the Bible also gives us the health message. 00:25:14.24\00:25:18.15 Tells us that what animals we can eat, 00:25:18.18\00:25:20.25 what animals we cannot eat in... 00:25:20.28\00:25:22.75 Leviticus 11. Yeah. 00:25:22.78\00:25:24.15 And in Islam, yeah, in Leviticus 11 and in Islam, 00:25:24.19\00:25:27.82 clearly, the only animal that you're forbidden 00:25:27.86\00:25:30.33 from eating is the swine or the pig. 00:25:30.36\00:25:33.93 And almost everything that comes out of the sea, 00:25:33.96\00:25:37.43 most Muslim eat. 00:25:37.47\00:25:39.30 Shia Muslims will not eat fish that doesn't have scale on it, 00:25:39.33\00:25:44.91 but they will eat shrimps or they will eat clams. 00:25:44.94\00:25:50.88 And then in the Sunni Muslims 00:25:50.91\00:25:52.95 and amongst the other groups, 00:25:52.98\00:25:54.35 many other things they eat. 00:25:54.38\00:25:55.85 So when we eat these kind of things, 00:25:55.88\00:25:57.82 we're actually breaking that commandment 00:25:57.85\00:25:59.79 because we are hurting our body by eating things 00:25:59.82\00:26:02.56 that are not clean. 00:26:02.59\00:26:04.13 And that's all in Leviticus 11. 00:26:04.16\00:26:07.50 So, Leviticus 11, Exodus 20, 00:26:07.53\00:26:10.47 these reveal God's requirements, 00:26:10.50\00:26:13.84 His Ten Commandment law. 00:26:13.87\00:26:15.37 That's right. 00:26:15.40\00:26:16.74 And you know, when Moses said, 00:26:16.77\00:26:19.84 "God is giving this to you... 00:26:19.87\00:26:21.21 So that you don't sin." 00:26:21.24\00:26:23.65 When we realize that we've sinned, 00:26:28.02\00:26:30.05 that then brings up the need that we need to be forgiven. 00:26:30.09\00:26:34.06 And we need a Savior because we've all sinned. 00:26:34.09\00:26:36.69 And that's where the whole sacrificial system comes in. 00:26:36.73\00:26:39.16 That's right. 00:26:39.19\00:26:40.53 And that's where Isaiah 53 comes in, 00:26:40.56\00:26:42.33 that says, "He was," verse 5, 00:26:42.36\00:26:44.40 "He was wounded for our transgressions, 00:26:44.43\00:26:47.37 He was bruised for our iniquities, 00:26:47.40\00:26:49.97 the chastisement of our peace was upon Him 00:26:50.01\00:26:52.41 and with His stripes we are healed. 00:26:52.44\00:26:55.51 And all we like sheep have gone astray, 00:26:55.54\00:26:57.85 we have turned everyone to his own way. 00:26:57.88\00:27:00.65 And the Lord has laid on Him 00:27:00.68\00:27:03.69 the iniquity or the sin of us all." 00:27:03.72\00:27:06.72 Amen. 00:27:06.76\00:27:08.79 And that's where the sacrifice of Jesus comes in, 00:27:08.82\00:27:14.23 is that we've all broken these commandments, 00:27:14.26\00:27:16.56 if you're really honest, if you look at your heart. 00:27:16.60\00:27:19.70 You know, we've all failed in so many, many ways. 00:27:19.73\00:27:23.81 And that's why we need a Savior. 00:27:23.84\00:27:25.97 We all need a Savior. 00:27:26.01\00:27:27.34 And the word gospel means the good news. 00:27:27.38\00:27:30.31 It's the good news for all of us. 00:27:30.35\00:27:32.15 It's good news for Muslims. 00:27:32.18\00:27:33.52 It's good news for non Muslims. 00:27:33.55\00:27:35.25 It's good news for everybody, that somebody paid the price. 00:27:35.28\00:27:39.02 Somebody took those sins upon His mind and in His heart, 00:27:39.05\00:27:41.86 and He suffered and He died. 00:27:41.89\00:27:44.19 And we can be forgiven, 00:27:44.23\00:27:45.56 we can be set free through His forgiveness, 00:27:45.59\00:27:47.93 and His grace, and His transforming love. 00:27:47.96\00:27:53.84 We hope you enjoyed watching Good News for Muslims 00:27:53.87\00:27:56.37 with Steve Wohlberg and Shahbaz. 00:27:56.40\00:27:58.87 This entire 13-part series is now available on DVD. 00:27:58.91\00:28:03.41 To order from within the US, 00:28:03.45\00:28:04.95 call White Horse Media at 1-800-782-4253. 00:28:04.98\00:28:10.75 To watch the series online or for more information, 00:28:10.79\00:28:13.32 visit the website www.goodnewsformuslims.com 00:28:13.36\00:28:17.63
