day of the Lord, He was going to

Jesus when He was talking about

John the Baptist said
that if you had ears to hear

you could understand that
John the Baptist was the Elijah

that was to come. But when we
think about the Elijah message

we learned last night
that this is all about what?

turning the hearts
of the fathers to whom?

To their children, and
the hearts of the children

to their fathers, this
is such a timely message

we need to hear this
because families are crumbling

and why are they? Because
the devil knows that the family

church, and if he can break up

There was a practice that
Abraham held all of his life

and it really did contribute
to the salvation of his family.

he can to keep you from doing

to do. Abraham of old, Abraham
left the err the Chaldees',

he and his father, his
brother, quite a few others,

and they made their way
up to a place called Herrin.

Herrin was right there by the
river, very beautiful country

lots of grass and everything,
and they settled there
00:06:57.25\00:07:01.38
and that's where they
stayed for a number of years.

But God had called Abraham
to leave there and to go to
00:07:05.79\00:07:12.36
the Land of Canaan. When
God asked Abraham to go to
00:07:12.39\00:07:17.93
the Land of Canaan folks,
He was asking Abraham to go
00:07:17.97\00:07:22.44
into a very very
hostile environment.
00:07:22.47\00:07:27.18
Cause the people that
lived in Canaan were pagans,
00:07:27.21\00:07:32.18
they were pagans, they practiced
all kinds of immorality
00:07:32.21\00:07:39.49
they sacrificed animals to pagan
gods, they even sacrificed their
00:07:39.52\00:07:45.76
children. They were terrible.
00:07:45.79\00:07:49.96
So, why would God take
Abraham and put him into such
00:07:50.00\00:07:55.90
a hostile environment,
why would He do that?
00:07:55.94\00:08:01.11
Because God
made the statement...
00:08:01.14\00:08:04.88
For I have known him, God
said when it comes to Abraham
00:08:04.91\00:08:09.55
I've known him in order
that he may command his what?
00:08:09.58\00:08:17.33
Command his children
and his household after him
00:08:17.36\00:08:21.43
that they keep the way of
the Lord to do righteousness
00:08:21.46\00:08:25.33
and justice that the Lord
may bring to Abraham what He has
00:08:25.37\00:08:29.27
spoken to him, so God said I
trust Abraham, he's my friend
00:08:29.30\00:08:34.01
he will do what I ask him to do
and he will praise his children
00:08:34.04\00:08:39.01
as I have
instructed him to raise them.

Now, when it talks
about Abraham's household,
00:08:45.05\00:08:48.09
what kind of
household did he have?
00:08:48.12\00:08:51.89
Well, Abraham's
household numbered a lot,
00:08:51.93\00:08:58.07
Abraham left Herrin, came down
and came into the land of Canaan
00:08:58.10\00:09:05.57
and when he came into the
land of Canaan, the very first
00:09:05.61\00:09:10.05
place he came to was
Shechem, remember that Shechem.
00:09:10.08\00:09:14.02
And in Shechem, he built
an altar there it says...
00:09:14.05\00:09:17.79
Now it says he met him
there and he built an altar
00:09:28.46\00:09:32.33
and it says I know Abraham that
he will direct his house hold
00:09:32.37\00:09:36.30
after Me. Well, Abraham's
household numbered over 1,000.
00:09:36.34\00:09:42.54
Did you realize that?
His household numbered
00:09:42.58\00:09:48.32
over 1,000 people, and
when they built an altar
00:09:48.35\00:09:53.49
they didn't build an altar
just to offer sacrifice on,
00:09:53.52\00:09:58.33
that wasn't the
total purpose of the altar.
00:09:58.36\00:10:01.40
True, they brought an
animal and offered it there
00:10:01.43\00:10:03.97
but the altar was where
they came and worshipped.
00:10:04.00\00:10:07.34
They came to there every
morning and every evening
00:10:07.37\00:10:12.97
and worshipped God at this
altar, the altar was the sinner
00:10:13.01\00:10:18.28
of their activity.
Everything went on around it so
00:10:18.51\00:10:22.52
when they came to a
place where they stayed
00:10:22.55\00:10:25.42
they built an altar, and
that's where they worshipped.
00:10:25.45\00:10:28.92
But Abraham, as it said
here, had a lot of people in his
00:10:28.96\00:10:33.76
household, so do you remember
the time when these kings

came down and they raided Sodom
and Gomorrah, and they took

Abraham's nephew,
captive, remember that?
00:10:41.30\00:10:44.74

Now, when Abram heard that
by his brethren by that way,

that's talking about Lot...
His brother was taken captive

he armed his, how many?
318 trained servants, listen,

who were born in his
house and went in pursuit
00:11:03.19\00:11:09.46
as far as Dan. So he
had 318 men there, servants,
00:11:09.50\00:11:14.00
that were born in his household.
00:11:14.04\00:11:15.80
So his household was not just
a few, and when he took them
00:11:15.84\00:11:21.64
he trained them and taught
them about the Lord, and they
00:11:21.68\00:11:25.78
followed the Lord so that
everywhere that Abraham went

all across the land of Canaan
you could follow his travels

because there
would be an altar there.
00:11:34.02\00:11:35.99
They built an altar, and you
could see exactly where Abraham
00:11:36.02\00:11:40.76
went and when these pagan people
came along, they could see the
00:11:40.80\00:11:44.33
altar, and they knew
that's where Abraham had been.
00:11:44.37\00:11:47.00
And not only did Abraham do
that, then he taught his sons
00:11:47.04\00:11:54.34
to worship God, to bring
their families before the Lord.

So we read here...

So we find that Isaac followed
the same custom as Abraham

wherever they stopped, spent
time, they'd build an altar
00:12:14.00\00:12:18.30
but Isaac took it a step
further, he had his servants

dig a well and so there at
the altar where they worshipped
00:12:22.30\00:12:27.21
there was also a well
that provided water and life.
00:12:27.24\00:12:31.58
It was there and you
know, you could follow wherever
00:12:31.61\00:12:35.58
place that Isaac went because
one thing, there was a well
00:12:35.62\00:12:38.92
there it was green around it,
and so they could see exactly
00:12:38.95\00:12:42.72
where Isaac had been, and he
worshipped and followed the Lord

and it continues to say
about him... It says that...

These were places that
he built altars to the Lord.

Well, do you
remember his son Jacob?

Well, you remember Jacob went
down to his Uncle Laban's house
00:13:02.91\00:13:07.02
spent...Where was Uncle
Laban? See how your Bible is.

Well, he was over in
Herrin, I told you about okay?
00:13:13.19\00:13:15.72
So he goes over, spends
some time with his Uncle Laban
00:13:15.76\00:13:20.46
and married Laban's two
daughters, remember that?

And then the Lord said to
him Jacob, it's time for you

to come back, and
Jacob is coming back and the

very first place he
comes in to the Land of Canaan

was at Shechem, the very same
place that Abraham had come in
00:13:38.91\00:13:44.99
he came there to Shechem
and what did he do there?
00:13:45.02\00:13:48.92
He re-built the
altar, and he dug a well.
00:13:48.96\00:13:55.56
And 1,700 years later,
the son of Jacob was there
00:13:55.60\00:14:02.60
drinking the water from
the well that Jacob dug.
00:14:02.64\00:14:09.64
But that well was where
the altar was and this is where
00:14:09.68\00:14:15.55
they came and they worshipped
God, it's what took place there.
00:14:15.58\00:14:20.12
Now, watch, watch the circum-
stances or the consequences

of having and not having
morning and evening worship.

Because Abraham they were there
every morning, every evening

that's where his household
met and they worshipped,

same thing with Isaac, same
thing with Jacob, right on down

but there was an individual
in Abraham's household

that did not follow the custom.

Then Lot chose for himself
all the plains of Jordan and
00:14:50.75\00:14:59.43
Lot journeyed east, and
they separated from each other.

There, God had blessed
Abraham He had blessed Lot

Until they had more cattle
than They can be together with
00:15:08.07\00:15:12.97
because there wasn't
enough pasture to take care of

Both of them, so they had
to separate and Lot went down
00:15:15.38\00:15:20.08
into the plains of Jordan
and down by Sodom and Gomorrah

because they were well-watered,
they were beautiful

and he took his family, and they
moved to Sodom and Gomorrah.

There is no record here,
friend, no record here at all

of Lot who the Bible
says was a righteous man,

don't misunderstand me, but
there's no record of him having

morning and evening worship,
there's no record of Lot

building an altar.

Alright, years
pass, and the Lord said...

And the Lord is
talking to Abraham here.

That's what He's doing.

He said I'm going to
go down and find out.

Now, if you read the story
here is Christ and two angels

and they've been there
and they've been visiting with

Abraham and He's telling
Abraham what He's going to do

he said I'm go to go
down and take a look at

Sodom and Gomorrah, and see if
it's as bad as they say it is.

Then the men the two angels

Interesting. Two
angels go on toward Sodom,

Abraham stands before
the Lord and he says to Him

Asked him and said you're
going down there and this city's

wicked, but would you destroy
the righteous with the wicked?

What if there is 50
righteous people there,

would you destroy it? And the
Lord said No, and Abraham said

well, what if there's 40, would
you destroy it? The Lord said

no. He keeps reducing, he said,
what if there's 20, He said no,

I wouldn't destroy. Well,
what if there's 10? He said Nah,

wouldn't destroy, he said
what if there's just five?

He said no, wouldn't destroy.
Those angels they're down in
00:18:08.95\00:18:17.23
Sodom and Gomorrah now
and they have found Lot

now, folks, Lot is a good
man, you must understand that.

But he hasn't done what
he should have done for his
00:18:24.83\00:18:29.07
household, for his children,
and those angels have told him,
00:18:29.10\00:18:34.28
God's going to destroy
the city Get Out! Get Out Now!

You see, they didn't
understand anything about this,

there was no altar, there was
nothing there that taught them
00:19:04.17\00:19:08.91
day by day, and when he
told them He was going to
00:19:08.94\00:19:11.55
burn this place up,
to them He was joking.
00:19:11.58\00:19:16.18
They fled, only Lot and
his two daughters made it,
00:19:31.47\00:19:37.11
even Lot's wife didn't make it.
00:19:37.14\00:19:41.94
Her heart was still
right back there in that city.

These daughters that Lot has,
they're not followers of God.

They don't understand because
Lot is not taking the time

to have morning and
evening worship with them and to

teach them, and so they don't
understand and so they get there

in the cave and say
what's going to happen to us?

Here we are in this cave, and
we don't have any descendants,

what's going to happen to us?

And so they decided among
themselves that they would
00:20:14.44\00:20:18.61
get their father drunk, and they
would go in and sleep with him
00:20:18.65\00:20:24.12
and become pregnant, so
they might have a descendant.

And so each one of
those daughters got pregnant

by their father, and they had
two sons, one's name was Moab

and the other's
name was Ben-Ammi.

Those two sons became
the fathers of two nations

the Moabites and the Ammonites,
and those two fought against

Israel for years.

And dear friends, all I'm
trying to show you tonight

is the result when we
don't follow what God says

and we don't have enough
time and we don't think it's

important enough to spend
time taking our children before
00:21:19.61\00:21:24.51
the Lord morning and evening.
that they might know the Lord.
00:21:24.55\00:21:30.39
Nothing, nothing is as
important as doing this.

This is what God wants us to
do. All your children shall be

taught of the Lord, and
if we will take the time,

to teach them the Lord, it
says great will be the peace of

you're children because they've
got something to build on

they've got a foundation,
they've got something
00:22:03.62\00:22:05.79
to place their belief in
and where they stand given them.

The kind of
foundation that they need.

I'm going to share with
you tonight three statements

out of books, these
are statements that to me

have great great
meaning on this subject.

It says...By sincere, earnest
prayer parents should make

a hedge about their children.
Do you ever think about that?

That when you're praying,
you're building a hedge around
00:22:37.12\00:22:40.62
your children? You don't
want the devil to get in there
00:22:40.66\00:22:45.09
build a hedge around
them, okay about their children.
00:22:45.13\00:22:48.60
They should pray with full faith
that God will abide with them
00:22:48.63\00:22:53.44
and that holy angels will guard
them and their children from
00:22:53.47\00:22:57.14
Satan's cruel power.

This is important.

In every family, there should
be a fixed time for morning

and evening worship.
If you don't do that,

you won't get it done.

Sorry! If you don't do
that, you will not get it done.

You need to have a fixed time
for morning and evening worship

and even then, I'll
guarantee you, the Devil will do

everything he can to
keep you from doing it.

Because there is too much
here at stake and therefore

he fights it for all
he can to make sure that

that doesn't happen, but
in every home there should be

morning and evening worship.
Now when they came to the

altar. Many times when they
came they brought a sacrifice,

there could be a
sacrifice brought for sins,
00:24:07.48\00:24:11.21
or there could be a sacrifice
brought as a thank offering,
00:24:11.25\00:24:15.08
or there could be just
a sacrifice as, free will
00:24:15.12\00:24:18.62
offering. They brought a
sacrifice and offered it there
00:24:18.65\00:24:24.16
on the altar but it wasn't
the only time, they came every
00:24:24.19\00:24:28.40
morning and every
evening and worshipped together.
00:24:28.43\00:24:30.60
But today, what
sacrifice do we bring?
00:24:30.63\00:24:35.57
We don't bring a lamb
anymore, because Jesus Christ
00:24:35.60\00:24:42.34
was the lamb of God, so we
don't need to bring a lamb.

So it says they
brought a sacrifice,

are we to bring a sacrifice?

Well, I want you to listen
cause these are the sacrifices

that you and I are
supposed to bring every morning

and every evening.

In other words, you and I
are aren't to present our bodies

as a living sacrifice to
God. What does that mean?

That means each morning when
I get up, I need to dedicate

my life to the Lord and give
my life anew to Him every day.

Let me tell you something, there
is no such thing as a person

getting up every day and
fiving his life to the Lord
