This my only question be. 00:07:24.18\00:07:28.00 The teachings of men so often mislead us. 00:07:28.40\00:07:32.56 What says the Word of God to me? 00:07:32.86\00:07:36.14 That's what we want to find out. 00:07:36.44\00:07:38.08 And so we're going to take a look at God's Word. 00:07:38.28\00:07:41.27 Find out what the scripture tells us about it 00:07:41.47\00:07:43.67 and see if it won't help us as we continue to study 00:07:43.77\00:07:47.12 God's Word and find out if it's something that I can trust. 00:07:47.33\00:07:51.51 You know? How do I study it? 00:07:51.81\00:07:54.47 What... what time should I spend with the Word of God? 00:07:54.77\00:07:58.67 These are questions that we want to look at 00:07:58.97\00:08:01.32 that we hope will bless you in a special way. 00:08:01.62\00:08:04.92 Tonight we're very happy to have Joe Pearles 00:08:05.22\00:08:08.43 back with us again. I know you're blessed. 00:08:08.63\00:08:11.44 I am always blessed when he sings for us. 00:08:11.64\00:08:14.00 And tonight he's going to sing a song entitled 00:08:14.30\00:08:16.64 If He Hung the Moon. 00:08:16.84\00:08:19.14 In the beginning 00:08:33.66\00:08:38.87 of time 00:08:39.07\00:08:41.23 He was the Creator. 00:08:41.53\00:08:45.18 Into existence 00:08:49.29\00:08:54.90 He spoke; 00:08:55.10\00:08:56.70 the heaven glowed. 00:08:57.10\00:09:03.05 And with one mighty swoop 00:09:05.17\00:09:10.30 of His hand 00:09:10.60\00:09:12.65 He threw out the stars. 00:09:12.95\00:09:16.65 He knew where they'd land 00:09:16.95\00:09:20.47 So if you're just drifting 00:09:20.77\00:09:26.62 along, 00:09:26.92\00:09:28.63 then I have good news. 00:09:28.83\00:09:34.75 And if He hung the moon 00:09:36.49\00:09:42.39 I know He will help you. 00:09:44.18\00:09:49.21 And if He keeps the sparrow 00:09:51.81\00:09:57.71 in flight, 00:09:57.91\00:09:59.98 He'll help you too. 00:10:00.18\00:10:05.82 Consider the lilies 00:10:07.88\00:10:12.40 of the field... 00:10:12.60\00:10:15.77 How much more He loves you! 00:10:16.07\00:10:21.02 In the beginning of time 00:10:23.57\00:10:27.55 you were on His mind 00:10:27.85\00:10:31.70 when He hung the moon. 00:10:31.90\00:10:36.83 Now if you feel like 00:10:39.78\00:10:44.77 the world is heavy on your shoulders 00:10:45.59\00:10:51.51 and even the closest 00:10:55.08\00:10:59.46 friend in life 00:10:59.66\00:11:02.85 is slipping away. 00:11:03.05\00:11:08.75 Though you have tried so hard 00:11:11.41\00:11:16.60 and lost... 00:11:16.81\00:11:18.96 there is still hope. 00:11:19.26\00:11:22.94 Look to the cross. 00:11:23.24\00:11:26.25 There you will see just how much 00:11:26.36\00:11:32.18 the Savior really loves you today. 00:11:32.58\00:11:38.53 And if He hung the moon 00:11:42.37\00:11:48.31 I know He will help you. 00:11:50.45\00:11:55.29 And if He holds the sparrow 00:11:57.73\00:12:03.66 in flight, 00:12:03.86\00:12:05.75 He'll hold you too. 00:12:06.59\00:12:11.48 Remember the sparrow 00:12:14.00\00:12:19.73 He knows; 00:12:19.93\00:12:21.54 He knows how He loves you. 00:12:21.84\00:12:27.10 In the beginning of time 00:12:29.57\00:12:33.98 you were on His mind 00:12:34.28\00:12:37.60 when He hung the moon. 00:12:37.90\00:12:42.36 In the beginning of time 00:12:45.31\00:12:49.73 you were on His mind 00:12:50.03\00:12:53.75 when He hung the moon... 00:12:57.25\00:13:03.25 He hung the moon. 00:13:05.69\00:13:11.38 Father in Heaven, 00:13:34.14\00:13:35.53 tonight as we open Your Word, 00:13:36.82\00:13:40.19 we look at where it came from, 00:13:42.36\00:13:44.80 what the history is 00:13:46.59\00:13:49.12 and how it applies to our lives, 00:13:49.42\00:13:52.27 we ask that You would give us understanding. 00:13:52.67\00:13:56.18 Give us wisdom. 00:13:56.48\00:13:58.77 Lord, help us to comprehend 00:13:59.07\00:14:02.00 spiritual things. 00:14:02.21\00:14:05.01 May the Holy Spirit be present. 00:14:05.32\00:14:08.38 May it open our eyes. 00:14:08.69\00:14:10.83 May our hearts be receptive to Your Word 00:14:11.03\00:14:14.03 and may each one of us be blessed in a special way. 00:14:14.33\00:14:18.80 For this we ask in Christ's name, Amen. 00:14:19.10\00:14:23.51 When I first became a Christian 00:14:31.06\00:14:36.40 and started going to church 00:14:36.70\00:14:39.81 no one told me anything about where the Bible came from. 00:14:40.11\00:14:45.93 I didn't know anything about it. 00:14:46.23\00:14:49.39 And as I think back on it, 00:14:49.69\00:14:52.91 when I went away to school 00:14:53.86\00:14:56.78 I still didn't know anything about the Bible... 00:14:57.08\00:14:59.96 other than I read the Bible and that type of thing. 00:15:00.26\00:15:03.55 But knowing anything of the background of the Bible, 00:15:03.75\00:15:05.87 where it came from, what was involved... 00:15:06.07\00:15:07.91 I didn't know anything about it. 00:15:08.11\00:15:09.71 It was just a book that had been there 00:15:10.01\00:15:13.29 all... as long as I could remember. 00:15:13.32\00:15:16.15 And my parents said it was a Bible and it was special 00:15:16.35\00:15:19.53 and this type of thing, and I accepted that. 00:15:19.73\00:15:22.10 But as far as knowing anything about it 00:15:22.30\00:15:24.95 and the background of it... I didn't! 00:15:25.15\00:15:27.54 That was totally something that no one ever said. 00:15:27.84\00:15:32.92 And I have to be honest... 00:15:33.12\00:15:35.31 I went through the college 00:15:35.61\00:15:40.24 and seminary and still didn't know much about it. 00:15:40.54\00:15:44.96 Just wasn't... wasn't made a subject that was stressed at all 00:15:46.80\00:15:52.14 and anything said about it. 00:15:52.34\00:15:54.34 But as the years have gone by, 00:15:54.64\00:15:56.67 I have realized that it's extremely important 00:15:56.87\00:15:59.70 that you and I know something about the Word of God. 00:16:00.00\00:16:04.06 Where it comes from; what's involved in it. 00:16:04.36\00:16:06.95 So tonight we're going to take a look 00:16:07.25\00:16:09.23 at where your Bible came from. 00:16:09.33\00:16:11.13 First thing we want to establish 00:16:11.43\00:16:13.06 is the scripture make it very clear 00:16:13.26\00:16:17.75 as to what the origin of God's Word is. 00:16:17.95\00:16:21.03 And this is what it says: 00:16:21.23\00:16:22.54 So it tells us clearly that the origin of scripture 00:16:38.03\00:16:42.57 is from God... not man. 00:16:42.87\00:16:45.03 That' what the Word of God says. That's where it came from. 00:16:45.16\00:16:48.31 Now, you may feel like this book 00:16:48.61\00:16:51.19 is a good history book. 00:16:51.39\00:16:55.43 You may feel like it's a good book of literature. 00:16:55.74\00:17:01.11 If you read it and study it, 00:17:02.49\00:17:05.35 it's a good book of grammar and all. 00:17:05.65\00:17:10.08 No question about it. 00:17:10.38\00:17:11.65 But I want to say this book is more than that. 00:17:11.95\00:17:15.64 This book is divine. 00:17:15.84\00:17:18.56 See? Divine. 00:17:18.86\00:17:21.24 And we need to understand that 00:17:21.54\00:17:23.97 because it says this here in God's Word: 00:17:24.27\00:17:27.11 So now, as we're talking about the Word 00:17:37.29\00:17:40.09 we're beginning to see the origin of it 00:17:40.19\00:17:42.33 and where it came from. 00:17:42.43\00:17:43.61 And essentially if that's where it had been left 00:17:43.81\00:17:47.32 I guess we still would have said "Yes, this is the Word of God. " 00:17:47.52\00:17:51.17 But to you and to me, 00:17:51.37\00:17:53.33 something much greater than that took place when it said here: 00:17:53.36\00:17:57.45 So we are finding that the Word of God became flesh. 00:18:13.14\00:18:17.15 And in Jesus Christ we find a revelation 00:18:17.35\00:18:23.30 of God. It's there. 00:18:23.51\00:18:26.67 That's what He told us, 00:18:26.87\00:18:28.36 and that's what He told us where we were to look. 00:18:28.56\00:18:30.90 In other words, He told us clearly 00:18:31.10\00:18:33.05 that we needed to spend time in the Word of God 00:18:33.25\00:18:36.91 to understand Him 00:18:37.11\00:18:38.93 and to understand what God said about Him. 00:18:39.24\00:18:41.93 As He was talking to the Pharisees 00:18:42.13\00:18:44.45 He said this to them: 00:18:44.65\00:18:45.97 These... "these are they which testify of Me. " 00:18:57.95\00:19:03.93 So that's what the scripture does... 00:19:04.13\00:19:05.88 all the way through from Genesis to Revelation 00:19:06.08\00:19:09.29 it testifies of Jesus Christ. 00:19:09.50\00:19:12.45 Tells us about Jesus Christ. 00:19:12.75\00:19:14.60 That's what the scripture does 00:19:14.80\00:19:17.10 as we go through the Word of God and we read it. 00:19:17.40\00:19:20.79 Now, the question we need then to ask this evening 00:19:20.99\00:19:24.63 is: when was it written down? 00:19:24.83\00:19:28.31 When... when did the Word of God come into being and all? 00:19:29.65\00:19:34.06 There's an interesting thing here that says... 00:19:34.27\00:19:37.22 speaking of Adam... and it says this about him: 00:19:37.42\00:19:40.85 So He took Adam, put him in the Garden of Eden 00:19:48.69\00:19:51.47 where he was to till and keep it. 00:19:51.67\00:19:53.32 So He put Adam and Eve in the garden. 00:20:02.32\00:20:04.66 And it says that God came down in the cool of the evening 00:20:04.86\00:20:08.31 and talked to them... visited with them. 00:20:08.51\00:20:11.30 I mean face to face. 00:20:11.50\00:20:13.00 They had communication... open communication with God there. 00:20:13.20\00:20:17.41 They didn't need anything written down 00:20:17.61\00:20:21.21 because they could talk to God face to face. 00:20:21.41\00:20:24.22 But the scripture says here: 00:20:24.42\00:20:26.27 Have you thought about that? 00:20:36.57\00:20:38.48 Now when it says he lived 930 years, 00:20:38.68\00:20:42.57 those are years like ours. 00:20:42.77\00:20:45.40 And if you need proof of that 00:20:45.70\00:20:47.17 then you just need to go and read about the flood 00:20:47.37\00:20:49.28 because it will tell you exactly those years were like our years. 00:20:49.49\00:20:52.83 And so it says he lived 930 years 00:20:53.03\00:20:57.66 and he died. 00:20:57.86\00:20:59.03 Have you put that together? 00:21:00.37\00:21:02.11 That means that Adam lived from the day he was created 00:21:02.21\00:21:07.92 to the day of Noah. 00:21:08.32\00:21:11.22 OK? 00:21:14.27\00:21:15.93 Lived from the time he was created to the day of Noah. 00:21:16.23\00:21:20.45 And then it says: 00:21:20.76\00:21:22.86 After the flood he lived 350 years. 00:21:28.86\00:21:31.35 But then it says this: 00:21:31.55\00:21:33.26 So, in the life of two men 00:21:39.59\00:21:43.06 we've got 1810 years. 00:21:43.26\00:21:48.00 Now you stop and think: here Adam... 00:21:48.30\00:21:51.16 Adam talked to the Lord face to face. 00:21:51.36\00:21:54.44 So he had direct communication. 00:21:54.64\00:21:57.71 There wasn't a need for the written word, folks, 00:21:57.92\00:22:00.88 because in the life of two men you had a clear revelation 00:22:01.08\00:22:04.85 of what God wanted and what He expected. 00:22:04.95\00:22:07.51 They were there; they understood it. 00:22:07.71\00:22:09.54 Adam was there; Noah understood it. 00:22:09.74\00:22:13.03 It was clear. And you find that Noah 00:22:13.23\00:22:16.15 lived clear to the day of Abraham. 00:22:16.35\00:22:21.24 OK? 00:22:23.14\00:22:25.23 Clear to the day of Abraham. 00:22:25.53\00:22:26.87 And by the time you reach Abraham the scripture says 00:22:27.07\00:22:29.88 he lived to be 175 years old. 00:22:30.08\00:22:33.20 And so in the life of three men 00:22:33.40\00:22:36.14 you've got 2000 years 00:22:36.34\00:22:39.04 in which you have people that understood clearly 00:22:39.24\00:22:45.11 what God wanted. And so the need 00:22:45.31\00:22:48.74 of written communication was not necessarily needed. 00:22:48.94\00:22:52.89 But then the children of Israel 00:22:53.09\00:22:56.76 went into slavery... 00:22:56.96\00:23:00.65 400 years of slavery. 00:23:00.95\00:23:06.26 Now God spoke of Abraham and said Abraham 00:23:06.46\00:23:10.17 was His what? Remember what it says? 00:23:10.37\00:23:13.69 Said he was His friend. 00:23:13.89\00:23:15.50 And it says that He spoke and talked with Abraham. 00:23:15.70\00:23:19.17 So he... he had communication with God; 00:23:19.37\00:23:21.48 he knew what the Lord wanted. 00:23:21.69\00:23:23.52 But when the children of Israel went into slavery, 00:23:23.72\00:23:25.85 here you have 400 years without it. 00:23:26.05\00:23:29.60 So when they come out of Egypt 00:23:29.90\00:23:34.22 then you come face to face 00:23:34.36\00:23:36.95 with the need of written word. 00:23:37.15\00:23:40.27 See? Now there needs to be something written down 00:23:40.57\00:23:44.99 so they know what God wants and what He expects of them. 00:23:45.02\00:23:49.95 And so the first recorded words 00:23:50.15\00:23:53.83 of scripture are these found in Exodus which says: 00:23:54.03\00:23:58.32 First written words God wrote. 00:24:11.87\00:24:14.92 God wrote those with His own finger 00:24:15.12\00:24:19.12 on tables of stone. 00:24:19.32\00:24:21.74 So there was no question here: 00:24:21.94\00:24:24.54 this is the first written recorded Word of God 00:24:24.74\00:24:29.26 on the Ten Commandments. 00:24:29.46\00:24:31.15 Now, as we take a look from that at the Old Testament, 00:24:31.55\00:24:37.48 we find the Old Testament is made up of books 00:24:37.68\00:24:41.67 and pamphlets and letters written by different writers. 00:24:41.88\00:24:46.60 In fact, written by 27 different writers... 00:24:46.80\00:24:49.83 those 39 books in the Old Testament. 00:24:50.03\00:24:53.44 The most prolific writer of all of them was Moses. 00:24:53.65\00:24:58.60 Moses wrote the first five books of your Bible - 00:24:58.81\00:25:03.36 Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. 00:25:03.56\00:25:08.06 And those five books are called the Pentateuch. 00:25:08.26\00:25:13.45 That's what they're called. 00:25:13.55\00:25:14.61 The five books are called the Pentateuch. 00:25:14.64\00:25:17.14 Moses wrote them. 00:25:17.34\00:25:19.00 Now probably the best we can tell 00:25:19.21\00:25:22.06 the oldest book in the Bible is the book of Job. 00:25:23.11\00:25:28.59 And from all indications Moses wrote it also. 00:25:28.79\00:25:33.10 So that's the oldest book in God's Word was Job. 00:25:33.30\00:25:37.23 Then you have the Pentateuch that Moses wrote. 00:25:37.43\00:25:40.81 This began... this began what was called 00:25:41.01\00:25:44.88 the canon or the Old Testament. 00:25:45.09\00:25:49.81 And this became - as we'll talk about - 00:25:50.01\00:25:52.45 the basis of inspiration. 00:25:52.65\00:25:54.05 And I'll go into that in another presentation. 00:25:54.25\00:25:58.32 But this became the basis of inspiration: 00:25:58.52\00:26:01.87 that Moses wrote those first five books. 00:26:02.07\00:26:06.01 OK. Then after that other books were added. 00:26:06.21\00:26:09.54 The next book that was added was...? 00:26:09.74\00:26:12.23 See how you know. 00:26:12.43\00:26:13.95 Joshua, OK. 00:26:14.15\00:26:16.50 And then we have different ones that came... 00:26:16.70\00:26:18.89 and Judges and so forth. 00:26:19.09\00:26:20.25 Those were the ones that were added to it. 00:26:20.45\00:26:23.46 These were written on scrolls. 00:26:23.67\00:26:27.67 OK? That's what they were written on. 00:26:27.87\00:26:29.85 And scrolls were made from animal skins. 00:26:30.05\00:26:33.88 They could be made from a deer or a lamb - 00:26:34.18\00:26:40.14 sheep - or from a cow. 00:26:40.34\00:26:42.83 One thing they were never... 00:26:43.03\00:26:44.87 scrolls were never made from pigs. 00:26:44.90\00:26:48.48 Pigs were unclean, and they certainly would not 00:26:48.68\00:26:53.17 in any way would they write the Word of God 00:26:53.37\00:26:55.93 on a pig skin. That just didn't happen! 00:26:56.03\00:26:58.44 OK? But these were scrolls that they put together 00:26:58.64\00:27:02.88 and that they wrote the Word of God on. 00:27:03.08\00:27:06.38 Now a scroll, folks, 00:27:06.58\00:27:09.52 can be very, very long. 00:27:09.72\00:27:13.90 A scroll can be over 150 feet. 00:27:14.20\00:27:19.41 A scroll... one scroll. Over 150 feet. 00:27:19.61\00:27:22.97 Now you stop and think about that. 00:27:23.17\00:27:25.14 Here it is over 150 feet long 00:27:25.34\00:27:28.16 and a sheep - the skin of a sheep - might be 2 or 3 feet. 00:27:28.36\00:27:33.98 So if you make it out of sheep skin, 00:27:34.18\00:27:36.70 you've got to have a whole flock of sheep to make 1 scroll. 00:27:36.90\00:27:40.03 OK? But they wrote it on scrolls, 00:27:40.23\00:27:44.08 and these scrolls were very, very special to them. 00:27:44.28\00:27:48.60 Now, when the first five books - 00:27:48.81\00:27:53.69 the Pentateuch that Moses wrote - 00:27:53.89\00:27:57.00 was put in a scroll, that became known as the Torah. 00:27:57.20\00:28:03.03 If it did not have the first five books of Moses 00:28:04.82\00:28:08.65 or just part of them, it was not considered the Torah. 00:28:08.85\00:28:12.30 It had to have all five books 00:28:12.50\00:28:15.41 in order to be the Torah. 00:28:15.61\00:28:17.20 And this was what they read and studied. 00:28:17.40\00:28:19.66 And as time passed, other books were added 00:28:19.86\00:28:24.53 to the Word of God. 00:28:24.73\00:28:26.63 They were added step by step. 00:28:26.84\00:28:29.27 And as they were added 00:28:29.47\00:28:30.85 they became known as the canon. 00:28:31.05\00:28:34.42 Now the Jewish people looked upon the Word of God 00:28:34.62\00:28:38.41 in a very special way. And by the way, 00:28:38.61\00:28:41.16 if you can see those two Jewish boys, they are holding a scroll. 00:28:41.36\00:28:46.36 That's what's in that large container they're holding 00:28:46.46\00:28:48.97 is a scroll. 00:28:49.07\00:28:50.46 And they treated that in a special way. 00:28:50.66\00:28:52.60 I can remember I was over in Israel 00:28:52.81\00:28:55.89 and I had gotten up early that morning 00:28:56.09\00:28:59.87 because I wanted to go down to the Western Wall. 00:29:00.07\00:29:03.20 The Western Wall, folks... There's a huge, huge courtyard. 00:29:03.40\00:29:08.78 And I just wanted to go down there and sit down. 00:29:08.98\00:29:12.78 And I took my Bible with me and just had my own devotion. 00:29:12.98\00:29:17.27 I just went there to spend a little time. 00:29:17.41\00:29:19.72 Well, I get down here to this Western Wall 00:29:19.92\00:29:22.25 and that courtyard is absolutely filled with people. 00:29:22.46\00:29:26.06 I mean it's packed with people. 00:29:26.26\00:29:29.27 And I went over and kind of had a seat 00:29:29.48\00:29:32.46 and watched what was going on. 00:29:32.66\00:29:34.18 And over by the Wall there were some rabbis 00:29:34.21\00:29:38.01 and they were carrying one of these scrolls 00:29:38.21\00:29:40.51 all wrapped up like that. 00:29:40.71\00:29:42.28 And they were doing different things with it there 00:29:42.48\00:29:45.70 and all and chanting stuff and so forth... 00:29:45.90\00:29:48.61 And then a couple of those rabbis began to march 00:29:48.81\00:29:52.99 around the Wall there. 00:29:53.19\00:29:55.04 And some other... other priests and all... 00:29:55.24\00:29:58.86 began to follow them and the people following them. 00:29:59.06\00:30:01.20 And they marched around this, and as they did 00:30:01.40\00:30:04.46 they came right by where I was sitting. 00:30:04.66\00:30:07.10 And as they were going by 00:30:07.30\00:30:09.78 I spoke to one of the men there 00:30:09.99\00:30:11.67 and I said: "What's happening here? 00:30:11.87\00:30:14.79 What's taking place here? " 00:30:14.99\00:30:16.46 He said: "Oh, we're having a funeral. " 00:30:16.66\00:30:18.49 I said: "You're having a funeral? " 00:30:19.69\00:30:20.96 I said: "Somebody very, very important 00:30:21.16\00:30:24.19 must have passed away. " 00:30:24.39\00:30:25.83 He said: "Oh, somebody broke into our synagogue 00:30:26.03\00:30:30.54 and mutilated the Torah. " 00:30:30.74\00:30:33.27 They took it and cut it and all. 00:30:33.47\00:30:35.81 And they said: "We're having a burial for the Torah 00:30:36.01\00:30:39.37 or the scroll. " You see, they look upon the 00:30:39.57\00:30:42.94 Word of God as life. 00:30:43.14\00:30:46.31 They consider it life. They will only bury it. 00:30:47.58\00:30:52.67 When they've got to get rid of it, they bury it 00:30:52.87\00:30:55.41 because they consider it life. 00:30:55.61\00:30:58.33 So they consider it very, very special. 00:30:58.53\00:31:01.28 In fact, the scripture says this about the Word of God: 00:31:01.48\00:31:04.13 So they consider the Word of God something that's living. 00:31:22.97\00:31:28.28 And so when something happens to it 00:31:28.58\00:31:31.42 they take it out and bury it. 00:31:31.63\00:31:33.98 Very, very special to them. 00:31:34.18\00:31:37.42 How do we... you know, how did it come about and all? 00:31:41.47\00:31:44.44 The Jewish rabbis, and particularly the scribes, 00:31:44.64\00:31:50.06 were meticulous when it came to recording the Word of God. 00:31:50.26\00:31:55.92 Tell you what they did. 00:31:56.12\00:31:57.89 If a scribe was translating the Word of God 00:31:58.09\00:32:02.66 and if there was a mistake made, 00:32:02.86\00:32:06.53 they didn't just cross out the mistake or try to erase it. 00:32:06.73\00:32:10.50 They took that whole panel in that scroll 00:32:10.70\00:32:14.80 and took it out... the whole panel. 00:32:15.00\00:32:18.54 They took it out; put a new panel in; 00:32:18.74\00:32:21.39 and then continued writing. 00:32:21.59\00:32:24.19 That's what they did to make sure 00:32:24.39\00:32:26.42 that it was recorded accurately. 00:32:26.62\00:32:28.84 To make sure it was exactly what it said. 00:32:28.87\00:32:31.88 This went on until we reach 00:32:32.08\00:32:35.25 the... about 700 AD. 00:32:35.45\00:32:39.98 700 AD there was a group of Jewish scholars by the name of 00:32:40.19\00:32:44.71 Masoretes. The Masoretes had committed themselves 00:32:44.91\00:32:50.79 to make sure that the Word or the Old Testament - 00:32:50.99\00:32:54.68 the Hebrew Bible, would be translated accurately 00:32:54.88\00:32:59.13 in every way. 00:32:59.33\00:33:00.63 So they were more than meticulous. 00:33:00.93\00:33:05.14 I mean, before... before they would record 00:33:05.34\00:33:10.61 the Word of God, nothing - absolutely nothing - 00:33:10.81\00:33:14.75 could be written down by memory. 00:33:14.95\00:33:17.67 Would not allow it. 00:33:19.21\00:33:20.63 Could not be written by memory. 00:33:20.83\00:33:22.32 That scribe had to look at that word intently 00:33:22.52\00:33:26.81 and he had to pronounce it out loud 00:33:27.02\00:33:30.00 before he wrote it down. 00:33:30.20\00:33:31.82 And then, if it so happened 00:33:32.12\00:33:36.37 that in writing he got two letters close together 00:33:36.57\00:33:42.52 so they touched one another, 00:33:42.72\00:33:44.10 he had to take the whole panel out and start over. 00:33:44.30\00:33:48.27 There was that much... Not only that, 00:33:48.47\00:33:51.35 when he got through recording a particular chapter 00:33:51.55\00:33:54.79 he had to go through and count every word 00:33:54.99\00:33:59.08 and make sure the count of that one 00:33:59.28\00:34:02.25 agreed with the original. 00:34:02.45\00:34:04.04 That's what they had to do. 00:34:04.34\00:34:06.29 To keep the Word of God they made absolutely sure 00:34:06.49\00:34:09.70 that it was the Word of God 00:34:09.90\00:34:11.30 and it was kept accurately in every way. 00:34:11.50\00:34:14.79 This is not something, folks, that was done haphazardly. 00:34:14.99\00:34:18.32 This is not something that great care 00:34:18.52\00:34:21.09 wasn't taken about. 00:34:21.19\00:34:22.29 Something that was done 00:34:22.39\00:34:23.46 meticulously and done 00:34:23.66\00:34:25.52 to make sure that the Word of 00:34:25.73\00:34:26.79 God was recorded in a way 00:34:26.89\00:34:28.99 that it would not be lost or inaccurate. 00:34:29.19\00:34:32.84 And so they recorded the Word of God. 00:34:33.04\00:34:35.63 Oh, here a few years back now 00:34:35.83\00:34:38.52 there was a great lot of interest because they found 00:34:38.72\00:34:44.01 out in the desert a cave. 00:34:44.21\00:34:48.18 And in this cave were fragments 00:34:48.38\00:34:53.68 of scripture. 00:34:53.88\00:34:56.11 In fact, they checked these. 00:34:56.31\00:34:58.36 These became known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. 00:34:58.56\00:35:03.28 In the Dead Sea Scrolls, folks, 00:35:03.48\00:35:06.07 there was over 1100 fragments and portions 00:35:06.27\00:35:11.98 of the scripture found. In fact, 00:35:12.18\00:35:14.77 every book - portions of every book 00:35:14.97\00:35:20.91 in the Old Testament - was found 00:35:21.11\00:35:23.70 except the book of Esther. 00:35:23.91\00:35:26.66 That's the only one that wasn't found. 00:35:26.86\00:35:29.06 But portions of every one of them was found 00:35:29.26\00:35:32.70 except the book of Esther. 00:35:32.90\00:35:34.86 And they found the book of Isaiah 00:35:35.06\00:35:38.72 almost totally complete. 00:35:38.92\00:35:42.05 And they put it very... that's the book of Isaiah 00:35:42.25\00:35:45.66 that they found there in the Dead Sea Scrolls. 00:35:45.86\00:35:48.99 And they spent - the Jewish scholars - spent 00:35:49.19\00:35:54.78 ten years on the book of Isaiah. 00:35:54.98\00:35:58.32 I mean studying it. 00:35:58.52\00:36:00.41 Every detail. Ten years, and they found that there was 00:36:00.61\00:36:04.23 absolutely no difference to speak of 00:36:04.43\00:36:07.09 in any way between it and what the Masoretes had done. 00:36:07.29\00:36:11.85 It was accurate all the way through. 00:36:12.15\00:36:15.69 So when I pick up the Bible 00:36:15.89\00:36:18.41 I don't have to have any doubts about the Old Testament. 00:36:18.61\00:36:21.75 You know, it's there. It's the Word of God. 00:36:21.95\00:36:24.66 I can know that. It's been kept faithfully over the years. 00:36:24.86\00:36:28.37 I don't have to be in doubt about what it has to say 00:36:28.57\00:36:32.09 or what is given. So by the time 00:36:32.29\00:36:36.52 we reach about 500 BC - 00:36:36.72\00:36:42.27 maybe 400 BC - 00:36:42.47\00:36:44.38 the canon, or the 39 books of the Old Testament, 00:36:44.58\00:36:49.04 was established. That was pretty well set. 00:36:49.24\00:36:52.45 But by the time we reach two centuries before Christ 00:36:52.75\00:36:58.04 this is when they put the Apocryphal books 00:36:58.24\00:37:03.12 into the Old Testament. 00:37:03.32\00:37:04.82 Now the Apocryphal books are history books 00:37:05.02\00:37:08.67 that cover the period of time about 400 years before Christ. 00:37:08.87\00:37:13.37 That's what they cover, 00:37:13.58\00:37:15.07 and they're Apocryphal books. 00:37:15.27\00:37:17.02 And the Jewish people never saw them, folks, 00:37:17.22\00:37:20.74 as part of the canon. 00:37:20.94\00:37:23.40 They had them in the Bible, 00:37:23.61\00:37:26.41 but not as part of the canon. 00:37:26.61\00:37:28.41 The Hebrew Bible was written in Hebrew. 00:37:28.61\00:37:31.28 The Apocrypha was written in Greek. 00:37:31.48\00:37:33.40 So they were not put there together, but they WERE 00:37:33.60\00:37:37.13 a source of Jewish history. 00:37:37.33\00:37:39.71 And they were put in and kept that way. 00:37:39.91\00:37:42.77 This was the Apocryphal writings of the Old Testament. 00:37:42.97\00:37:46.87 Do you understand what I'm talking about? 00:37:47.07\00:37:48.83 I'm talking about such books as Maccabees and Judas 00:37:49.03\00:37:51.85 and these different Apocryphal books that were there 00:37:52.05\00:37:55.35 that gave some of the history of the Jewish people. 00:37:55.38\00:37:58.75 OK. This was the Old Testament. 00:37:58.95\00:38:01.90 As we get on a little farther 00:38:02.10\00:38:05.17 finally the Old Testament was taken and translated 00:38:05.37\00:38:09.86 from Hebrew into Greek. 00:38:10.06\00:38:12.79 And this became known as the Septuagint. 00:38:12.99\00:38:16.13 That is... when you speak of the Septuagint 00:38:16.33\00:38:19.48 or you read about it or you hear somebody say something 00:38:19.68\00:38:21.70 about it, that is the Old Testament in Greek. 00:38:21.80\00:38:25.65 OK? it was put in Greek form. 00:38:25.86\00:38:29.10 So this is kind of how the Old Testament came to you 00:38:29.30\00:38:32.81 and to me. Now can I share some trivia with you? 00:38:32.91\00:38:36.07 Huh? 00:38:36.27\00:38:37.61 OK. I'm going to tell you how 00:38:37.91\00:38:39.89 to remember how many books are in the Bible. 00:38:40.09\00:38:45.27 I'm going to tell you how never to forget it. 00:38:45.47\00:38:48.56 You know. Do you know how many books are in the Bible? 00:38:48.76\00:38:51.55 Yeah, 66 books in the Bible. 00:38:51.95\00:38:54.68 OK. But now I'm going to tell you how to remember that. 00:38:54.88\00:38:57.80 Never forget it. And how many are in the Old Testament 00:38:58.01\00:39:00.02 and how many in the New Testament. 00:39:00.12\00:39:01.19 So you've got the words Old Testament there on the screen, 00:39:01.39\00:39:04.77 right? In old, how many letters are there? 00:39:04.97\00:39:08.86 Three. 00:39:09.06\00:39:10.81 In Testament how many are there? 00:39:11.01\00:39:13.88 Nine. That's how many books are in the Old Testament. 00:39:14.08\00:39:17.31 OK. So if can you remember Old Testament 00:39:17.51\00:39:21.14 you can always remember how many books are in it 00:39:21.34\00:39:23.27 because there's 3 in Old and 9 in Testament. 00:39:23.47\00:39:26.10 So that tells you clearly how many are there. 00:39:26.30\00:39:28.41 OK. So now you know how many books are in the Old Testament. 00:39:28.61\00:39:32.10 And that is something that has come down to us 00:39:32.40\00:39:35.24 in a special way and has been a great, great blessing. 00:39:35.44\00:39:38.77 As you read the Old Testament, understand what took place. 00:39:39.08\00:39:43.27 OK. Let's go to the New Testament. 00:39:43.58\00:39:46.15 The New Testament now comes on in a different way, 00:39:46.45\00:39:51.12 and you need to understand the background of the New Testament. 00:39:51.42\00:39:55.15 Because when you understand that 00:39:55.45\00:39:56.93 then a lot of things begin to clear up on it. 00:39:57.13\00:40:00.53 You've got to understand that something took place. 00:40:00.73\00:40:03.52 Folks, with the birth of Jesus Christ 00:40:14.87\00:40:18.07 things drastically changed. 00:40:18.37\00:40:21.92 Drastically changed... because up to that time 00:40:22.22\00:40:27.16 the Old Testament was contained with the Jewish people. 00:40:27.76\00:40:33.67 It was a Hebrew book; it was with the Jewish people. 00:40:35.28\00:40:39.45 With the coming of Jesus Christ 00:40:39.75\00:40:42.23 the Roman Empire had also come into existence. 00:40:42.53\00:40:47.03 And the Romans... the Romans had now made 00:40:47.33\00:40:51.88 the pathways safe. 00:40:52.18\00:40:54.56 They had made the waterways safe. 00:40:54.86\00:40:57.02 They made travel, so people could go 00:40:57.32\00:40:59.89 many, many different places. 00:41:00.09\00:41:01.54 And now the gospel was not confined to the Jews. 00:41:01.84\00:41:07.54 The gospel was made available to...? 00:41:09.50\00:41:12.65 Anybody. 00:41:13.81\00:41:15.22 It was open to everyone. 00:41:15.52\00:41:17.87 And so no longer was it confined to the Jewish nation. 00:41:18.17\00:41:21.88 It was open to everyone. 00:41:21.98\00:41:23.64 So out of Jerusalem we find them going 00:41:23.74\00:41:28.54 many, many different places. 00:41:28.74\00:41:30.31 In fact, there's a text in the Bible that says 00:41:30.51\00:41:33.25 those that were scattered abroad 00:41:33.35\00:41:35.23 went everywhere preaching the Word. 00:41:35.43\00:41:37.78 And they went out preaching the Word of God. 00:41:38.08\00:41:41.51 Taking the Word of God with them and preaching it 00:41:41.71\00:41:44.72 every place they went. 00:41:44.92\00:41:46.26 The writings, if you please, of the New Testament: 00:41:46.56\00:41:50.75 27 books in the New Testament. 00:41:50.95\00:41:55.18 How many writers? 00:41:55.38\00:41:57.24 Eight, OK? 00:41:57.54\00:42:00.09 Eight. Those that wrote the gospels was 00:42:00.50\00:42:04.43 Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. 00:42:04.53\00:42:08.75 They wrote and described the life of Jesus Christ. 00:42:09.05\00:42:14.32 That's what they recorded for us. 00:42:14.62\00:42:17.64 Marvelous as you read through the life of Jesus Christ 00:42:17.84\00:42:21.25 as they tell the incidents that took place in His life. 00:42:21.55\00:42:25.71 Then, the writing of Paul... 00:42:26.01\00:42:30.10 Paul wrote 13. 00:42:30.60\00:42:34.45 Of the 27 books in the New Testament 00:42:34.60\00:42:37.60 Paul wrote 13 of them! 00:42:37.80\00:42:39.82 We refer to those as Epistles. 00:42:40.13\00:42:43.71 Some of them were books, some of them were letters. 00:42:44.01\00:42:47.00 Just many different things that he wrote... 00:42:47.03\00:42:49.22 they are the Epistles. 00:42:49.52\00:42:51.35 And Peter and James and Jude wrote the others. 00:42:51.55\00:42:56.50 So those are the books 00:42:56.71\00:42:58.67 and those are the writers 00:42:58.87\00:43:00.18 of the New Testament. 00:43:00.38\00:43:01.82 By the time we reach 00:43:02.13\00:43:04.22 100 AD, 00:43:04.42\00:43:07.05 the canon of the New Testament is pretty much settled. 00:43:07.25\00:43:12.66 The 27 books are there. 00:43:12.96\00:43:15.97 And these people that went everywhere preaching the Word 00:43:16.27\00:43:19.18 they took this with them on scrolls 00:43:19.38\00:43:21.91 and they went everywhere talking about the Word of God. 00:43:22.11\00:43:25.90 Preaching it. 00:43:26.10\00:43:27.13 Do you know what the main thing they preached back then? 00:43:27.33\00:43:30.49 What do you think they really preached back then? 00:43:33.03\00:43:35.43 The main thing they preached back then was the resurrection. 00:43:35.73\00:43:39.98 The resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:43:40.28\00:43:42.82 And, of course, the disciples could say they saw it. 00:43:43.12\00:43:48.20 Paul makes a big deal out of it 00:43:48.50\00:43:51.59 because he said that he was an apostle out of time. 00:43:51.89\00:43:57.15 That he saw Jesus Christ in vision, 00:43:57.35\00:43:59.98 and he makes a big thing about this fact. 00:44:00.18\00:44:02.59 That He IS the resurrected Lord. 00:44:02.79\00:44:06.17 Something that he believed and he taught. 00:44:06.47\00:44:08.41 So you have the New Testament given to them at that time. 00:44:08.61\00:44:11.56 It was written on papyrus. 00:44:11.76\00:44:15.09 Now papyrus is a paper-like substance 00:44:15.29\00:44:20.34 that's made from a reed called papyrus. 00:44:20.54\00:44:22.98 And they took it and they beat it 00:44:23.19\00:44:25.54 and from that pulp they made sheets. 00:44:25.74\00:44:28.96 And because it could be made in sheets, 00:44:29.17\00:44:31.44 it was made much into like a book. 00:44:31.64\00:44:34.46 And this became how the New Testament was done. 00:44:34.66\00:44:37.93 And so they didn't have to carry great big scrolls any longer. 00:44:38.13\00:44:42.50 They could take the Word of God and carry it with them 00:44:42.70\00:44:45.06 and go different places and preach the Word of God. 00:44:45.26\00:44:47.86 And so the whole concept in how the Word of God spread 00:44:48.06\00:44:52.34 was totally different. 00:44:52.54\00:44:54.34 OK? 00:44:54.54\00:44:56.14 Now I told you I'd tell you how to remember how many 00:44:56.35\00:44:59.52 books were in the Bible. 00:44:59.72\00:45:00.91 How many are in the New Testament. 00:45:01.11\00:45:03.39 New has how many letters? 00:45:03.59\00:45:06.16 Three. 00:45:06.26\00:45:07.28 And Testament has nine. 00:45:07.48\00:45:10.10 And three times nine is? 27. 00:45:10.13\00:45:15.27 So there you have it. 00:45:15.48\00:45:16.50 That's how many books are in the New Testament is 27, 00:45:16.70\00:45:20.35 39 in the old, giving you 66 books 00:45:20.55\00:45:26.54 in the Bible. 00:45:26.74\00:45:27.94 OK. Now let me explain something that happened 00:45:28.14\00:45:31.49 because we'll deal in another session on this more 00:45:31.70\00:45:36.08 but you need to understand what happened here. 00:45:36.28\00:45:38.57 The Word of God spread with great rapidity, folks. 00:45:38.88\00:45:41.71 In fact, by the time we reach 300 AD 00:45:42.01\00:45:45.26 half of the Roman Empire has become Christian. 00:45:45.46\00:45:48.77 And these people went everywhere, as it said, 00:45:49.07\00:45:51.76 preaching the Word. And they went out 00:45:51.96\00:45:53.65 and they taught it and they preached it. 00:45:53.85\00:45:55.62 And by the time you reach 500 AD, 00:45:55.82\00:46:01.55 the New Testament - the Bible, particularly the New Testament - 00:46:01.75\00:46:05.70 has been translated in over 500 different languages. 00:46:05.90\00:46:11.27 You think about that. 00:46:13.55\00:46:15.21 By the time we reach 500 AD the New Testament has been 00:46:15.41\00:46:19.46 translated in over 500 different languages. 00:46:19.66\00:46:23.94 OK? 00:46:25.88\00:46:26.89 By the time... by the time 00:46:28.23\00:46:32.89 you reach 600 AD, 00:46:33.09\00:46:37.13 there is only one. 00:46:37.43\00:46:40.20 All there is available to the people is Latin. 00:46:42.74\00:46:47.16 Jerome, 328 AD, 00:46:47.46\00:46:53.08 translated the Bible from then Greek and so forth 00:46:53.28\00:46:58.39 into Latin, and this became known as the Vulgate. 00:46:58.59\00:47:03.65 The church took the Vulgate version 00:47:04.90\00:47:10.89 and took every other one and made it an offense 00:47:11.19\00:47:16.06 for them to have the Word of God 00:47:16.36\00:47:19.26 in any other language than Latin. 00:47:19.36\00:47:21.90 And dear friends, let me tell you something... 00:47:22.20\00:47:24.47 the only Bible that was there for a thousand years - 00:47:24.67\00:47:30.32 from 400 AD to 1400 AD - 00:47:30.52\00:47:34.21 was only Latin. 00:47:34.41\00:47:36.30 And most of the people couldn't read Latin. 00:47:36.61\00:47:40.85 In fact, mainly the only ones that could read Latin 00:47:41.36\00:47:45.10 were the priests. 00:47:45.30\00:47:46.39 And the scripture was taken and chained to library walls 00:47:46.49\00:47:51.03 and told the people they couldn't understand it. 00:47:51.33\00:47:54.31 And therefore an understanding of it was taken away 00:47:54.51\00:47:57.38 from all of them. 00:47:57.48\00:47:58.64 Couldn't read the Word of God. 00:48:00.07\00:48:03.78 Well as time has passed, they have found 00:48:07.28\00:48:11.84 some old, old manuscripts. 00:48:11.94\00:48:14.57 This happens to be in the Vatican in Rome. 00:48:19.93\00:48:23.89 That's where this manuscript is kept. 00:48:24.09\00:48:25.92 Uh, along came a man by the name of Constantine Tischendorf. 00:48:26.90\00:48:32.83 And he was a German scholar. 00:48:33.03\00:48:35.36 And he was rummaging around in an old monastery 00:48:35.56\00:48:39.66 at the foot of Mt. Sinai 00:48:39.86\00:48:41.26 and in the trash in this Monastery of St. Catherine, 00:48:41.46\00:48:46.69 that's where that is, 00:48:46.89\00:48:47.92 he found a copy of the Word of God in the trash. 00:48:48.12\00:48:52.60 And he pulled it out, and it became known 00:48:52.80\00:48:56.57 as an old manuscript, it's a very old one, 00:48:56.77\00:49:00.55 and it's called the Codex Sinaiticus. 00:49:00.75\00:49:04.65 And that was found in 1844 AD. 00:49:04.95\00:49:09.08 OK. 00:49:09.38\00:49:10.61 Then some years later 00:49:10.81\00:49:13.35 in Egypt - in Alexandria, Egypt - 00:49:13.55\00:49:17.74 they found another manuscript: 00:49:17.94\00:49:20.42 and it's called the Codex Alexandrinus. 00:49:20.63\00:49:24.29 And those are the oldest manuscripts. 00:49:24.49\00:49:28.47 They date back to 200 and 300 AD. 00:49:28.67\00:49:32.33 That's where they come from. 00:49:32.63\00:49:33.74 Now folks, I've got to say a lot more about these, 00:49:34.04\00:49:37.30 but I don't have time tonight. 00:49:37.50\00:49:39.61 We'll do it in our next presentation, because these 00:49:39.81\00:49:42.83 are very, very important 00:49:43.03\00:49:45.37 that you understand what's involved in these. 00:49:45.57\00:49:48.16 But this became the source of our Bibles... 00:49:48.46\00:49:53.16 where they translated them from, many of them. 00:49:53.46\00:49:56.33 BUT, something happened. 00:49:56.53\00:49:59.30 In 1380 AD a man by the name of John Wycliffe 00:49:59.60\00:50:05.16 who was known as the Morning Star of the Reformation 00:50:05.36\00:50:09.93 comes on the scene of action. 00:50:10.14\00:50:11.99 And John Wycliffe sat down and he translates 00:50:12.30\00:50:16.66 the Bible from Greek to English. 00:50:16.86\00:50:21.59 That's the first one that comes into English 00:50:21.90\00:50:25.53 is by Wycliffe... 1380 AD. 00:50:25.73\00:50:29.06 He was persecuted unmercifully for doing this. 00:50:29.26\00:50:33.59 He had a group of followers that followed him 00:50:33.79\00:50:35.76 called the Lollards. 00:50:35.96\00:50:37.28 And they tried to make this available to the people. 00:50:37.49\00:50:40.48 The church - the established church - fought it horribly. 00:50:40.68\00:50:44.62 In fact, they sent a delegation down and arrested Wycliffe 00:50:44.82\00:50:48.64 to burn him at the stake. 00:50:48.84\00:50:50.12 And he died on them before they got him to the stake. 00:50:50.42\00:50:53.45 That's the only thing that kept them from burning him 00:50:53.65\00:50:55.25 at the stake. If fact, it so infuriated the Pope 00:50:55.45\00:50:59.03 that 44 years after his death 00:50:59.33\00:51:03.44 he had him dug up and his bones crushed 00:51:03.64\00:51:07.51 and thrown on the river. 00:51:07.71\00:51:08.97 Thought that this would put an end to it... 00:51:10.42\00:51:13.49 that that would settle it. 00:51:13.70\00:51:15.39 But the scripture says something, folks. 00:51:15.69\00:51:18.55 Morning Star of the Reformation 00:51:30.75\00:51:33.09 translated the scripture into English. 00:51:33.29\00:51:35.30 It also says this to us: 00:51:35.50\00:51:37.44 And so the Word of God went out. 00:51:50.91\00:51:53.16 Well, that put it into English. 00:51:53.36\00:51:55.76 When we hit the 1500s, 00:51:56.71\00:51:59.61 something begins to happen. 00:51:59.81\00:52:02.04 Along comes a man that takes the Word of God 00:52:02.34\00:52:06.32 and his name is Erasmus. 00:52:06.52\00:52:09.90 Erasmus knows that the Vulgate translation into Latin 00:52:10.20\00:52:16.19 has got flaw after flaw after flaw in it. 00:52:16.39\00:52:20.36 And he sits down, and something had happened. 00:52:20.56\00:52:24.05 As the Reformation broke, 00:52:24.25\00:52:26.30 then all these translations in other languages 00:52:26.50\00:52:30.57 began to surface. 00:52:30.77\00:52:32.55 And as they began to surface, 00:52:32.85\00:52:35.13 then Erasmus gathered some of these 00:52:35.33\00:52:38.01 and they began to translate 00:52:38.21\00:52:39.94 the Word of God from these different languages 00:52:40.15\00:52:42.20 back into the Greek. 00:52:42.40\00:52:43.71 And I'll talk more about this. 00:52:43.91\00:52:45.19 This became known as the received text. 00:52:45.39\00:52:49.20 And so Erasmus translated the Word of God. 00:52:49.40\00:52:52.63 And by the way, it was what Erasmus translated 00:52:52.83\00:52:56.24 that Martin Luther put his Bible into German. 00:52:56.44\00:53:00.00 And so you have the beginning of a change. 00:53:00.20\00:53:04.05 That's why Wycliffe is called 00:53:04.15\00:53:05.79 the Morning Star of the Reformation 00:53:05.83\00:53:08.14 is because from him it began to grow, and the Word of God 00:53:08.18\00:53:12.46 began to be made available to the people. 00:53:12.67\00:53:15.20 So you can see, the Word of God has a great, great history. 00:53:15.23\00:53:19.52 Wonderful as God has given His Word, that we can read it, 00:53:19.72\00:53:24.71 understand it, and follow it. 00:53:24.91\00:53:26.36 By all means, Give Me The Bible. 00:53:26.56\00:53:29.84 Give me the Bible 00:53:33.83\00:53:38.63 when my heart is broken. 00:53:38.83\00:53:43.22 When sin and grief 00:53:43.42\00:53:46.91 have filled my soul with fear. 00:53:47.11\00:53:51.72 Give me the precious 00:53:52.63\00:53:56.55 words by Jesus spoken. 00:53:56.85\00:54:00.77 Hold up my faith 00:54:01.07\00:54:04.44 to show my Savior's near. 00:54:04.64\00:54:09.76 Give me the Bible, 00:54:10.94\00:54:15.02 holy message shining. 00:54:15.32\00:54:19.18 Thy light shall guide me 00:54:19.48\00:54:23.86 in the narrow way. 00:54:24.16\00:54:28.05 Precept and promise, 00:54:28.96\00:54:32.98 law and love combining. 00:54:33.28\00:54:37.59 Till night shall vanish 00:54:37.89\00:54:42.24 in eternal 00:54:42.84\00:54:46.73 day. 00:54:46.86\00:54:50.53 Let us pray. 00:54:50.83\00:54:52.30 Father in Heaven, 00:54:52.60\00:54:53.93 thank you. God bless you. 00:56:02.82\00:56:04.58 Water can be both inspiring and awesome. 00:56:05.86\00:56:09.76 As it flows from the hills and the mountains 00:56:09.96\00:56:12.78 water changes the destiny of every living creature 00:56:12.98\00:56:16.94 it comes in contact with. 00:56:17.14\00:56:19.15 Not a single living thing 00:56:19.45\00:56:21.30 can survive without water for long. 00:56:21.50\00:56:23.69 But despite its beauty 00:56:23.99\00:56:25.84 the power of water can cut channels through rocks 00:56:26.04\00:56:29.11 and change the landscape forever. 00:56:29.31\00:56:31.97 In John chapter 7 00:56:32.27\00:56:34.52 Jesus stood and cried out saying: 00:56:34.72\00:56:36.85 "If anyone thirst, let him come to Me and drink. 00:56:37.05\00:56:40.52 He who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, 00:56:40.73\00:56:44.30 out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. " 00:56:44.50\00:56:47.97 As He did so many times, 00:56:48.17\00:56:50.76 Jesus explained the spiritual things of God 00:56:50.96\00:56:53.92 through nature... like flowing water. 00:56:54.12\00:56:56.95 This living water is a life-changing source. 00:56:57.25\00:57:00.79 It can change the landscape of our lives 00:57:00.99\00:57:03.70 and flow through us to change the lives of others. 00:57:03.90\00:57:08.22 Folks, we all need water to live... 00:57:08.53\00:57:13.28 but we also need living water. 00:57:13.48\00:57:16.52 Jesus is that living water, 00:57:16.72\00:57:19.26 and through His Spirit we can bring life to those around us. 00:57:19.57\00:57:23.17 The only goal we have at this ministry 00:57:23.37\00:57:26.41 is to offer living water to all mankind. 00:57:26.61\00:57:29.97 There are thousands - no millions - 00:57:30.27\00:57:33.82 who still long for this water: the living water of life. 00:57:34.02\00:57:38.06 Won't you help us quench their thirst? 00:57:38.36\00:57:41.10 Please consider what you can do 00:57:41.41\00:57:43.22 for those who still don't know about Jesus. 00:57:43.42\00:57:45.71 As the Holy Spirit impresses, 00:57:46.01\00:57:47.69 please send your tax-deductible gifts to: 00:57:47.79\00:57:49.94 Thank you for helping us spread the light of God's Word 00:58:01.97\00:58:04.48 through television and radio. 00:58:04.68\00:58:06.27 Your gifts help bring the blessed hope of salvation 00:58:06.57\00:58:08.59 to millions around the world. 00:58:08.79\00:58:11.00
