What is a Soul?

A question that an individual

needs to be extremely clear on.

And so we're going
to go right back to the

very first of scripture

because it defines
and helps us understand

what a soul is. So
we're going to go to

Genesis the second
chapter and verse 7.

And it just simply says here:

So we're going to take this
text and kind of break it down

step by step. It says here:

"The Lord God formed man
of the dust of the ground. "

You see, God has the
ability to make something

out of nothing.

In fact, the scripture says

that He can speak
things into existence.

That He can simply speak it
and that He has that ability.

But when it came to creating man

it simply says that
He took some dust...

and from that dust He made man.

Brought him into existence.

The reason for that - and we'll
find that out as we take a look

tonight - why He reached out

and took a handful
of dust and created man.

But this is the way He made man.

And when it came to Eve,

we find that it says this:

So since Eve was
taken from Adam -

Adam's rib -

then basically she falls
into the same category as Adam.

And that is meaning
that she came from the earth.

Because he came from the earth

and he was created from
it, so she also come there.

So when it comes to
this question of a person

and how they came into existence

look at the composition of man -

You can see 65% of us is oxygen.

just a big bunch of hot air!

where we come from.

trying to think that we came

The scripture is very clear

So it says He breathed into man

the breath of life

and he became a living being.

So we find that the scripture
tells us that this word breath -

the Hebrew word
for that is Nishmat -

and that word means breath,

wind, breeze, spirit.

All those are
words that it's used for.

And so when it says
that He breathed into man

him the breath of life.

is not talking about oxygen.

breath of life that God gives.

That's what it says.
