00:08 Welcome back to Frankfurt, Germany.
00:10 And more specifically, to the old center of Frankfurt. 00:15 There are buildings here that date back to the 14th century. 00:18 Of course, many were destroyed 00:20 during the Second World War and rebuilt. 00:23 And the name of this area is called Romerberg, 00:25 which refers back to the Roman settlements, 00:28 the original settlements in this area. 00:30 In fact, there are still remains till this very day. 00:33 Next up, we travel to Moscow to a unique mission project. 00:37 It is a walking project. 00:40 With mission to the cities, 00:41 that is Christ's invitation for all of us 00:44 as believers and followers of Him 00:47 to engage and to use every talent 00:51 or imagination to then impact urban areas. 00:54 I'm here with Mikhail Kaminskiy, 00:57 and he is the president of Euro-Asia division. 00:59 Thanks for being with us today. 01:01 Thank you for inviting. 01:03 I was just interested 01:05 that one of your largest cities is Moscow, Russia. 01:09 And so, how large is that city? 01:12 We estimate that it has around 18 millions population, 01:17 because officially we have 14, 01:20 we have official two millions immigrants, 01:23 and I think who is known official people 01:26 who just come and leave without any registration 01:30 that we have from 16 to 18 million people 01:33 who is living everyday there. 01:35 Yeah. 01:36 And so, this is thrilling to hear that 01:39 you told me a story of one young adult, 01:42 and how she was doing something amazing 01:44 taking a hobby that she had, 01:46 and to organize the church family there in Russia. 01:52 Tell us about that story? 01:53 Now woman understand why Ellen G. White said 01:57 that the work of the Lord will be finished by young people. 02:02 They dream a lot and beside of that, 02:05 they have enough strength 02:06 to fulfill their dreams like this young lady. 02:11 When she heard a call of the pastor 02:14 to do something for the Lord, she said, 02:18 "Why not to do what I like to do for myself?" 02:24 And her hobby, as you said is Nordic walking 02:28 or is known Scandinavian walking. 02:33 This is the same like skiing at 02:37 or during the winter time, 02:40 but without the skis, but still using their sticks. 02:45 Right, the ski poles, right? 02:46 Ski poles. 02:48 It's provide people now stability, 02:51 very easily to walk and in the same time 02:56 to have the healthy nourishment of their bodies because, 03:02 while they are walking, all of their muscles, 03:05 they start to work. 03:08 And because in Russia for example, 03:11 and also in Ukraine, and other countries 03:14 of our Union Western part of our division 03:18 has from six to eight months of winter. 03:23 They used to use a skiing for their exercising 03:29 during the winter. 03:30 Therefore, when winter is finished, 03:31 they continue to use the same style of life. 03:36 Well, that's thrilling of how this young adult 03:39 is using her hobby of a Nordic walking 03:42 or this cross-country skiing to impact her city. 03:46 But how has she organized that? 03:48 Because it's one thing just to, you know, 03:50 I'm just one member, this is one young adult. 03:52 And you know, I'd love to do exercise 03:55 and I'd love to do my hobbies, 03:57 but how did she organize it to impact the city of Moscow? 04:01 Yeah, it was one moment in her, 04:05 I think the prime moment when she come to the idea, 04:09 and after that she shared to his pastor, 04:11 that she would like to go out only from the church walls. 04:16 And to organize the groups over the Nordic walking 04:20 in each park over the Moscow. 04:23 Now, how many parks does Moscow have? 04:26 Because Moscow is very big city, 04:28 and we have only five international airports, 04:31 can imagine how many parks. 04:33 A hundreds of parks. 04:35 Hundreds of park, and her idea is 04:38 to establish a interesting groups of the Nordic walking 04:42 in each park over the city. 04:45 And her approach is 04:47 that she is coming to the church, 04:49 and she is announcing her ideas. 04:54 And in every congregation, there is a group of the people 04:58 who is very interesting in such of the activities. 05:02 It's very easy, 05:03 it's not require any theological background. 05:07 And they're gathering 05:10 one day a week in the location. 05:15 They appointing, inviting their friends, 05:19 and they start to walk. 05:20 Thank you so much, Pastor Mikhail Kaminskiy. 05:23 It's been thrilling to hear how one young adult in Moscow 05:26 in taking her talent and her passion, 05:29 and her hobby of Nordic walking has started these walking clubs 05:33 to then transform her city 05:35 there in Moscow, Russia and bring the gospel there. 05:38 You know, this just reminds me the story of the power 05:42 that each one of us that God has given in our hearts, 05:45 the power of imagination, the power of creativity. 05:47 And when God gives those things to us, 05:50 and we're able to use those and share with others, 05:53 we can actually transform not only our lives, 05:56 but also our neighborhoods and even cities. 05:58 And so this is thrilling. 06:00 So, Gary, I'm just so happy to hear this report 06:03 here from Moscow, Russia. 06:04 Now, back to you. 06:06 I hope you are enjoying 06:07 our tour of mission around the world. 06:09 Next up, the Nine Mile Church in Papua New Guinea. 06:21 Located nine miles from the center of the city, 06:23 the Nine Mile district was known as 06:26 one of the worst areas in Port Moresby, 06:28 Papua New Guinea. 06:30 But if you look closely, 06:31 you'll catch a glimpse of change, 06:33 progression and hope. 06:36 In this neighborhood, 06:37 a new Seventh-day Adventist Church 06:39 has brought a sense of pride to the Nine Mile Community. 06:42 This place has been 06:44 one of the worst places in the city. 06:46 Nobody liked to come here. 06:49 When they hear the name Nine Mile, 06:51 the feel wasn't going to their hearts. 06:53 But then, we as a leaders, we have to come together, 06:57 we have to pray. 06:59 And then, you know, those times, 07:00 our wives and children, 07:02 girls should, they never walked freely, 07:05 come to church to. 07:07 Even sometimes, they had stepped here. 07:09 Some people arrive 07:11 and kill in our own church and ground too. 07:14 But this has changed. 07:16 And that way, God has blessed us a lot. 07:18 Now, we can see our wives and children, 07:21 they walk freely for nightly programs. 07:25 The current Adventist Church is overflowing 07:27 and cannot fit more people. 07:29 Church leaders like Vincent 07:32 have a heart for the people here. 07:34 Vincent is a successful real estate agent, 07:37 who is very involved in the church's activities. 07:40 As the new Nine Mile 07:41 Seventh-day Adventist Church is constructed, 07:44 church leaders like Vincent go into the community 07:47 to get to know the people who live here. 07:49 He talks with the people, gives them Bible studies, 07:52 and finds out what needs they might have. 07:54 There are many, very, many poor people around here. 07:58 Even though our country is rich, 08:00 but we have many poor people around here. 08:02 So we need to go out and many people, 08:04 they don't know about Jesus. 08:07 Although many of the church members have low incomes, 08:09 they work hard and save to give to the church building project. 08:13 The new church's presence 08:15 has already attracted the members of the community 08:17 to ask questions about the Adventist faith. 08:20 When we build a church, a big church like this, 08:22 in the center of our settlement like this, 08:25 we know that we will reach out to them. 08:27 And tell the truth 'cause Jesus will come very soon. 08:31 This new church will hold more than 1,000 people. 08:35 One of the people who will be attending 08:36 this new church is Jack. 08:39 Not long ago, Jack's brother was very sick. 08:43 He had been studying the Bible with Adventist, 08:45 and decided he wanted to be baptized. 08:47 Jack's brother was too sick to go to the church. 08:50 So, the members rolled a water tank to his house. 08:53 Jack had been thinking about the Sabbath issue for sometime. 08:57 As he saw his brother being baptized, 09:00 he decided he also wanted to become an Adventist. 09:03 Jack was baptized in this 09:06 portable water tank outside of his home, 09:08 and he is contributing greatly to the new building project. 09:11 The Nine Mile Church has already made 09:13 a huge splash in this community through their actions. 09:16 When the new building is completed, 09:18 it will be able to accommodate every one 09:20 who wants to worship with them on Sabbath. 09:23 Please pray for construction of this new church building. 09:26 And pray for the members of this church 09:28 as they continue to share God's beautiful message. 09:32 Big problem in New Guinea, 09:34 they really need to know more about Jesus. 09:37 That's why we want to ask the world to pray for us, 09:40 so that all our neighboring communities here 09:43 will know about Jesus. 09:55 Well, that's about it for today's program 09:57 and I hope that you've been challenged and inspired 10:00 by what you've seen and heard. 10:01 As we have seen mission in action 10:03 in various parts of the world, 10:06 from big cities such as 10:07 Moscow to Frankfurt to more remote areas, 10:11 Papua New Guinea and the Amazon. 10:14 The light of God's love 10:15 is being shown in practical ways by men and women, 10:19 who've taken the gospel commission seriously 10:23 and are working on the frontlines of mission. 10:25 I want to thank you so much for your continuing support 10:27 of Adventist mission through your prayers, 10:31 through your financial support 10:32 and through your personal involvement. 10:35 Before we go, I would like to offer you a small free gift. 10:38 It's a Adventist Mission carry bag, a tote bag. 10:41 And as you carry this for your shopping, 10:43 carrying your books, whatever, 10:45 just a little reminder about the importance of mission. 10:49 Well, for Adventist Mission, I'm Gary Krause, 10:52 and I hope that you can join me next time 10:54 right here on Mission 360. |
