Tampa Bay is known as 00:00:09.74\00:00:11.34 the lightning capital of United States. 00:00:11.37\00:00:14.31 On any given summers day 00:00:14.34\00:00:15.81 you almost guaranteed by the end of the afternoon 00:00:15.84\00:00:18.81 to have showers, thunder and lightening. 00:00:18.85\00:00:22.48 The showers of God's love being poured all over the globe 00:00:22.52\00:00:26.49 coming up next. 00:00:26.52\00:00:27.99 Just before He went up to heaven, 00:00:33.03\00:00:35.50 Jesus gave us a command. 00:00:35.53\00:00:36.90 He gave us a mission. 00:00:38.47\00:00:39.80 Jesus said go, 00:00:41.14\00:00:42.47 "Go, go unto all the world telling them of Hislove." 00:00:43.67\00:00:47.34 This is our mission, 00:00:48.58\00:00:50.58 this is our Global Mission. 00:00:50.61\00:00:52.58 Hello, and welcome to Global Mission Snapshots 00:00:58.62\00:01:00.86 coming to you today from the Tampa Bay area 00:01:00.89\00:01:03.69 of Florida in the United States. 00:01:03.73\00:01:06.06 The word Tampa was an Native American term 00:01:06.09\00:01:09.76 for sticks of fire. 00:01:09.80\00:01:11.50 I think that's a wonderful metaphor, 00:01:11.53\00:01:13.20 a symbol of mission. 00:01:13.23\00:01:15.60 Its the sparks of fire that burst into flame 00:01:15.64\00:01:19.17 that grow and grow sharing the love of Jesus Christ. 00:01:19.21\00:01:23.45 And around the world today 00:01:23.48\00:01:24.81 we see people planting churches, 00:01:24.85\00:01:26.31 we see people coming to know Jesus Christ as their Savior 00:01:26.35\00:01:30.02 because of men and women who have given their talents 00:01:30.05\00:01:33.22 and gifts for service for Jesus Christ. 00:01:33.25\00:01:36.73 When Paul was writing to Timothy in his second letter 00:01:36.76\00:01:39.49 he said, "Fan into flame the gift of God." 00:01:39.53\00:01:43.43 For we've not been given a spirit of Timothy 00:01:43.47\00:01:46.40 but a power of love and of self-discipline. 00:01:46.43\00:01:50.21 What a tremendous challenge we have today 00:01:50.24\00:01:52.97 to fan the flames of mission around the world. 00:01:53.01\00:01:56.58 First up today we will travel to Zimbabwe 00:01:56.61\00:01:58.88 and there we will see a 13th Sabbath Offering project 00:01:58.91\00:02:02.25 that will be supported by your mission offerings. 00:02:02.28\00:02:04.79 I came to this clinic to find medical help. 00:02:14.00\00:02:16.87 I was not feeling well. 00:02:16.90\00:02:18.67 The first thing that I discovered 00:02:18.70\00:02:20.34 when I came was the faith in Christ, 00:02:20.37\00:02:22.54 and it was the first thing that benefited me. 00:02:22.57\00:02:25.64 Especially in my case, I am HIV positive. 00:02:25.67\00:02:29.48 This Seventh-day Adventist Medical Clinic 00:02:29.51\00:02:31.71 fills a big need in this region of Zimbabwe. 00:02:31.75\00:02:34.75 The patients come from a variety of 00:02:34.78\00:02:36.85 social and religious backgrounds 00:02:36.89\00:02:38.89 and with a variety of symptoms. 00:02:38.92\00:02:41.99 Many of the patients are HIV positive 00:02:42.02\00:02:44.79 and this clinic is the only place 00:02:44.83\00:02:46.86 for them to get free care. 00:02:46.90\00:02:48.40 Nomatter came here for physical healing 00:02:49.53\00:02:52.17 but quickly found that 00:02:52.20\00:02:53.54 Jesus was a major part of the process. 00:02:53.57\00:02:56.20 Daily we have devotions here in this clinic. 00:02:56.24\00:03:00.14 All people come here for medical services. 00:03:00.18\00:03:03.65 They take part in devotional services. 00:03:03.68\00:03:07.62 We have music, 00:03:07.65\00:03:09.28 we have preaching that is done on a daily basis. 00:03:09.32\00:03:12.85 Nomatter used to be a Christian 00:03:12.89\00:03:14.76 but gave up her faith a long time ago. 00:03:14.79\00:03:17.26 The devotions at the clinic touched her heart. 00:03:17.29\00:03:20.50 She decided to re-dedicate her life to Jesus. 00:03:20.53\00:03:24.07 She told many people about her experience. 00:03:24.10\00:03:26.47 The clinic has a good reputation 00:03:26.50\00:03:28.40 in the community. 00:03:28.44\00:03:30.27 And she isn't the only one 00:03:30.31\00:03:31.67 whose life was transformed here. 00:03:31.71\00:03:33.71 There are countless stories of others 00:03:33.74\00:03:35.81 who have had life changing experiences at this clinic. 00:03:35.84\00:03:40.22 When I came to this clinic, 00:03:40.25\00:03:41.92 I was touched by one of the sermons 00:03:41.95\00:03:44.29 from the morning devotions 00:03:44.32\00:03:46.02 that was being led by the members 00:03:46.05\00:03:48.66 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:03:48.69\00:03:50.36 and that's when I saw the power of God working within me. 00:03:50.39\00:03:54.23 And then from there, I accepted Jesus Christ 00:03:54.26\00:03:58.63 as my personal Savior, then I was baptized. 00:03:58.67\00:04:01.37 Then from there, I saw that there was a change in my life. 00:04:01.40\00:04:05.41 This clinic takes a holistic approach to healing. 00:04:05.44\00:04:08.08 The nurses treat a variety of symptoms 00:04:08.11\00:04:10.51 and conditions. 00:04:10.55\00:04:11.88 Anything from treating a common cold 00:04:11.91\00:04:14.08 to delivering a baby can be done here. 00:04:14.12\00:04:16.75 And it is all done at no charge to the patient. 00:04:16.79\00:04:20.42 They tend to the mental, physical 00:04:20.46\00:04:22.79 and spiritual aspects of life. 00:04:22.82\00:04:25.39 There is even a fulltime counselor here 00:04:25.43\00:04:27.70 to talk to people about their issues. 00:04:27.73\00:04:29.86 Because this is an Adventist clinic, 00:04:29.90\00:04:31.70 we believe in Jesus. 00:04:31.73\00:04:33.64 We don't believe in our own intelligence. 00:04:33.67\00:04:35.74 Every morning before we start working, 00:04:38.04\00:04:40.91 we start by praying, 00:04:40.94\00:04:43.38 maybe just inviting the Lord in our work. 00:04:43.41\00:04:46.78 That's why some workers here are 00:04:46.82\00:04:48.75 so welcoming, so knowledgeable, 00:04:48.78\00:04:51.55 it's because there's Jesus in this clinic. 00:04:51.59\00:04:53.92 I am encouraged and taught how to live with HIV 00:04:56.16\00:04:59.36 and also to work with my hands. 00:04:59.39\00:05:01.56 That helps me to live a positive life. 00:05:01.60\00:05:04.17 The need for medical clinics in Southern Africa 00:05:05.53\00:05:08.10 is growing every day. 00:05:08.14\00:05:10.11 This quarter, a portion of your 13th Sabbath 00:05:10.14\00:05:12.41 Offerings will help build a medical clinic in Zimbabwe. 00:05:12.44\00:05:16.81 This clinic will be used as a holistic medical center 00:05:16.85\00:05:19.65 for people to be healed, not only physically, 00:05:19.68\00:05:22.48 but also mentally and spiritually. 00:05:22.52\00:05:25.15 Please pray for people like Nomatter 00:05:25.19\00:05:27.59 who need the support of these medical clinics. 00:05:27.62\00:05:30.33 Pray that God can touch the lives 00:05:30.36\00:05:32.23 of the people in this community. 00:05:32.26\00:05:34.30 Thank you for supporting Mission. 00:05:34.33\00:05:36.70 My guests are Clarence and Donna 00:05:40.50\00:05:42.40 who are actively involved 00:05:42.44\00:05:44.21 in ministry to the community here in Florida. 00:05:44.24\00:05:46.88 Thanks so much for joining us. 00:05:46.91\00:05:48.91 I'm interested very much in the name Compass Communities 00:05:48.94\00:05:52.25 is the name that you give for your initiative. 00:05:52.28\00:05:54.32 Where did that name come from? 00:05:54.35\00:05:56.48 Well, when we first got together as a group 00:05:56.52\00:05:59.35 we kind of just did some real research 00:05:59.39\00:06:03.32 and came up with different names 00:06:03.36\00:06:04.86 and for some reason 00:06:04.89\00:06:06.29 Compass was the one that was voted on 00:06:06.33\00:06:08.46 so we went for it. 00:06:08.50\00:06:09.93 Well, I kind of like it but does it implies 00:06:09.96\00:06:11.33 that you have some direction. 00:06:11.37\00:06:12.93 That does help, yes, yes. 00:06:12.97\00:06:14.84 So what is the imitative? 00:06:14.87\00:06:16.40 How would you describe it, Donna? 00:06:16.44\00:06:18.14 Well, we decided to call it Compass Communities 00:06:18.17\00:06:20.84 because it had four points on the compass 00:06:20.88\00:06:23.45 and to north is Jesus Christ 00:06:23.48\00:06:26.11 and then we decided that we are gonna focus 00:06:26.15\00:06:28.78 on four different areas which is to worship, 00:06:28.82\00:06:32.05 to nurture, to equip and one more... 00:06:32.09\00:06:36.96 One more good thing. 00:06:36.99\00:06:38.33 Yes. Okay. 00:06:38.36\00:06:39.83 And that's why we decided to work on those four areas. 00:06:39.86\00:06:43.83 Yeah, wonderful. 00:06:43.87\00:06:45.20 Now it's basically a church planting initiative? 00:06:45.23\00:06:47.54 Yes, it is. 00:06:47.57\00:06:48.90 What led you to become involved in this? 00:06:48.94\00:06:52.71 We have always wanted to be church planters 00:06:52.74\00:06:54.34 ever since I was filled with God's Holy Spirit 00:06:54.38\00:06:57.28 I just wanted to plant a church 00:06:57.31\00:06:59.11 and find a different way of doing church 00:06:59.15\00:07:01.75 so that it will be a church that's filled with love 00:07:01.78\00:07:03.59 and not concentrate on the walls 00:07:03.62\00:07:05.45 but to concentrate on loving people 00:07:05.49\00:07:07.32 and seeing what the God, the Holy Spirit 00:07:07.36\00:07:08.76 will do through that. 00:07:08.79\00:07:10.13 Right. 00:07:10.16\00:07:11.49 So you are very much oriented toward the community? 00:07:11.53\00:07:13.63 Yes.
