academic health science center

health science schools.

basically we trained people

to work with our graduates

Well, it's changed a bit.

South America was the big thrust

that we all thought
we go to, and India.

are pretty well self sufficient.

We do some in India.

Now it's really shifted
larger to Africa, parts of,

our graduates are going.

That's a huge commitment.

call them at Loma Linda.

I'm excited about now is,

to decide where to start.

Country of Chad 10
years ago, Chad had one little

dusty hospital
that hardly functioned.

Now we've got two
well functioning hospitals,

one of them is the
busiest one in the country

at Bere, Chad.

And James Appel who was there,

is just now
starting a new hospital

out in the Eastern Chad
out in the Muslim area next

against the Sudan border.

So we are pleased
with what's happened there.

Two other areas that
are very exciting for me

is Malamulo hospital in Africa.

It is actually the oldest
mission hospital in the church.

Started as school in 1902
and a clinic in 1915, really,

we're celebrating
centennial later this year,

Malamulo, we are now
making into what were calling

a Loma Linda
University Field Station.

So we are putting an extra
focus of development there.

We got what, four,
five faculty there now,

that are based there.

We've started
surgery residency program

for training specialist surgeon

medicine residency program.
