00:10 Welcome back to Mexico City.
00:12 And now for something completely different, 00:15 let's travel to Africa 00:17 and meet a Global Mission pioneer Derek 00:20 who has one goal and that is to start 00:23 New Seventh Day Adventist congregations 00:25 in remote areas in Zambia. 00:28 Thanks. 00:29 We are in South Zambia 00:31 and today we're gonna be speaking 00:32 with the Global Mission Pioneer. 00:34 He's uh, one of the most exciting people you meet. 00:37 His name is Derek. 00:38 He's been working in Zinkoya. 00:39 Welcome, Derek. Yeah, welcome, Sir. 00:42 Thank you, Sir. 00:43 And Derek, what is 00:44 what is it to be a Global Mission pioneer? 00:47 Global Mission pioneer is to go in the entire area 00:51 and plant the churches, Seventh Day Adventist church. 00:55 We have no SDA existence. 00:57 We go in that area where... 00:59 there's no SDA existence. 01:02 And why have you chosen to be a Global Mission pioneer? 01:05 I have chosen this work because I have seen the greatest need 01:10 for those people who have received the Christ. 01:13 In that area, where 01:15 there's a, this church, Church of Christ, 01:18 it's a Church of Christ occupied territory. 01:21 Where by no SDA Churches were planted there. 01:25 Therefore, it grieved me to see an area 01:29 where Christ has not received in a no more way. 01:33 So that's why I've been encouraged to go there, 01:37 I encouraged myself to go there 01:39 and to work here as a pioneer. 01:42 And how do, what methods do you use 01:44 to share the gospel of Christ? 01:47 To share the gospel message, 01:49 I use some tracks-- 01:53 where, which I distributed to those people near by 01:57 where ever I go. 02:01 Secondarily, I just use Bible studies mad at Bible. 02:06 There are two ways of conducting 02:09 or reaching God's people. 02:11 First, we socialize with them, 02:13 we give company or we get what are known to them, 02:15 or we get what are be well known to them, 02:18 then sending tracks to them 02:20 and answering questions. 02:22 After, another method is to direct 02:26 and speak with that person with the Bible. 02:30 So, Derek, as you work as a Global Mission pioneer, 02:34 do you work by yourself? 02:36 Uh, I work myself but with my wife. 02:39 So you bring your wife along. 02:40 Yeah, I take with my wife. 02:41 And do you have any kids? 02:43 Yes, I have kids. I have eight, eight kids. 02:45 Eighty kids? Eight, yes. 02:47 So you work here as a Global Mission pioneer with your wife 02:50 but you still have eight kids to support back home? 02:51 Yes, I have to support my children to go to school. 02:55 This is the work which I'm doing even now. 02:58 Yes, I have got a burden. So our country, which... 03:02 even though I had such difficulties of going 03:06 into the field as a pioneer but I can't 03:09 because I know how greatest the work is, 03:13 people are dying without knowing God 03:15 so it grieved me seriously. 03:18 That's what I tried. 03:20 The other side I support my children, 03:22 the other side in some ways I go as a pioneer. 03:26 That's what I'm doing this. 03:28 And God has always provided for you so. 03:30 Yes, God did not let me down. 03:33 I tried you know, by all means 03:35 you know there are some areas of fears 03:37 but I succeeded in some areas, 03:40 I succeeded, I succeeded, yes. 03:43 There's a part of your story 03:44 where you were working as a Global Mission pioneer 03:47 but then, your contract ended. 03:50 But there was still work to do. 03:52 What happened then? 03:54 Yes, during those years where I was self supporting, 03:58 I used most of rainy season I come back 04:03 to where I was born in native's area 04:06 in Nanthari. 04:07 Then after the rainy season, then again I go there I work, 04:12 rainy season comes, I come back 04:14 and I have something to raise 04:17 to go to take back to that place. 04:20 So, when you say that you are self supporting, 04:22 that makes it sound like, "Oh, okay, that's no big deal." 04:25 But in reality we know that, 04:26 you were going, stopping your work, 04:28 going farming, 04:30 earning your money with very hard work, 04:33 bringing those funds back 04:34 so that you can continue working 04:36 taking the message of Jesus in those remote areas. 04:40 Yes, during those years when I was not supported 04:43 but now I'm being supported. 04:44 You are? 04:45 Good, so you are being supported? 04:47 Yes. 04:49 How do you reach the place where you now working at, 04:51 as a Global Mission pioneer? 04:52 Yes, we, sometimes from Chavuma to 04:56 just almost 15 kilometers, we use the bicycle. 05:00 Then you have to allot 15 kilometers 05:03 we leave the bicycle and move on foot climbing the hills. 05:07 So even the bicycle won't go. You can't. 05:10 No vehicle, no Honda, no bicycle can go through these 05:15 into the high mountains going up until now. 05:18 So you put your back pack on 05:19 and you hike all the way to the village. 05:21 Yes, I leave the bicycle to someone 05:24 who are known to me, then I'll go in foot. 05:28 So if there is one Global Mission pioneer 05:29 that's really out there and that would be you. 05:32 In that area, we need so many pioneers, 05:35 we have some pioneers. 05:40 We are supposed to have four or five pioneers 05:44 to cover that area. 05:47 So you need more pioneers? 05:48 Yes, we need more pioneers. 05:50 And you know that the world church, 05:51 there are many people who have been praying for your work 05:53 and who have also supported pioneers. 05:55 But we need even more pioneers, 05:57 more literature, I imagine. 05:59 If you could leave a message 06:01 to the people who have supported your work, 06:03 with their prayers or with their donations, 06:05 what would you tell them? 06:06 Yes, those people, 06:10 to encourage the people who are supporting pioneers, 06:13 I still encourage them to go to continue supporting. 06:17 Because it's a wide area, 06:18 maybe we can cover that area, 06:21 in maybe four to five years. 06:23 Not less than that those years. We can't. 06:26 So in an area where no vehicle can pass, 06:29 just only by physical, so it needs support 06:35 so I encourage well wishers to support 06:40 to have a support, to continue to supporting us. 06:43 I'm personally very encouraged by the by the work 06:45 that Global Mission pioneers like yourself do. 06:48 You know, may God continue to bless. 06:49 Oh, thank you, Sir. 06:51 May God bless you also. 06:55 Next up, a mission music video. 06:57 As you watch these beautiful images 06:59 and listen to the music, please pray. 07:02 Pray for Global Mission pioneers around the world 07:05 as they plant new congregations 07:07 in rural areas and in big cities. 07:10 They face tremendous challenges. 07:13 Pray that God will be there beside them 07:15 to comfort them, to encourage them, 07:18 and that the Holy Spirit will touch lives 07:20 with the love of Jesus Christ. 10:36 Well, that's it for today's Global Mission Snapshots. 10:39 I hope that you've been inspired and challenged 10:42 by what you've seen and heard. 10:44 From here in Mexico City to Zambia, to Sri Lanka, 10:48 all over the globe, men and women 10:51 and boys and girls that sharing the light of God's love. 10:54 And thank you for your continuing prayers 10:56 for mission around the world, 10:58 especially for urban mission 11:00 which is particularly challenged. 11:02 Your prayers, your personal involvement 11:04 and prayerful financial support 11:07 are making a difference. 11:09 Before I go, I'd like to make a small offer 11:11 to people living in North America 11:13 as a small thank you 11:15 for your continuing support from Mission, 11:17 we'd like to send you a Mission 360 magazine. 11:21 The partner of Mission 360 TV program. 11:25 Just call the number on your screen 11:27 and we'd be happy to send you a free copy. 11:29 It's full of photos, it's full of stories 11:31 about mission around the world. 11:34 For Adventist Mission, I'm Gary Krause 11:36 and I hope you can join me next time 11:38 right here on Global Mission Snapshots. |
