00:00:07.62\00:00:12.36 It's extremely crowded and busy, 00:00:12.39\00:00:14.81 yet it can be strangely quiet. 00:00:14.84\00:00:17.34 Here you see religious shrines 00:00:17.37\00:00:19.32 side by side with capitalist businessmen. 00:00:19.35\00:00:22.62 You see beautiful intricate creatively produce lanterns 00:00:22.65\00:00:26.84 and a complex massive transit system. 00:00:26.87\00:00:31.04 This city of all cities reminds us of the huge challenge, 00:00:31.07\00:00:35.38 the complex challenge of urban mission. 00:00:35.41\00:00:37.91 Just before He went up to heaven, 00:00:45.48\00:00:47.89 Jesus gave us a command. 00:00:47.92\00:00:50.82 He gave us a mission. 00:00:50.85\00:00:53.64 Jesus said, "Go, go unto all the world, 00:00:53.67\00:00:58.41 telling them of His love." 00:00:58.44\00:01:01.11 This is our mission. 00:01:01.14\00:01:03.10 This is our Global Mission. 00:01:03.13\00:01:05.14 Hello and welcome to Global Mission Snapshots 00:01:11.18\00:01:13.51 coming to you from Tokyo, Japan. 00:01:13.54\00:01:16.18 When you think of Japan, 00:01:16.21\00:01:17.24 different images probably come to mind. 00:01:17.27\00:01:19.57 You may think of the intricate tea ceremonies, 00:01:19.60\00:01:22.36 the ancient art of bonsai growing 00:01:22.39\00:01:25.00 or perhaps you might think of the beauties, 00:01:25.03\00:01:27.88 the intricate beauties of Japanese gardens 00:01:27.91\00:01:30.59 or simply the millions and millions of businesspeople, 00:01:30.62\00:01:34.35 who everyday head to the office 00:01:34.38\00:01:36.02 for a very, very long days of work. 00:01:36.05\00:01:39.12 Social standing, status and age play a very important role 00:01:39.15\00:01:44.16 in and how people treat each other 00:01:44.19\00:01:45.46 and interact with each other, 00:01:45.49\00:01:47.35 it seems that everyone is aware of each other's age in Japan 00:01:47.38\00:01:50.51 because that's very important in things such as 00:01:50.54\00:01:53.88 the order in which tea is handed out in the tea ceremony, 00:01:53.91\00:01:57.39 the way that disks are allocated in the classroom. 00:01:57.42\00:02:00.92 How close you stand to somebody 00:02:00.95\00:02:03.01 even how you address that person, 00:02:03.04\00:02:05.96 very dependent on the age of the person. 00:02:05.99\00:02:08.91 These kinds of things are helpful to know 00:02:08.94\00:02:10.94 when you're interacting with such a respectful 00:02:10.97\00:02:13.38 and highly organized people, 00:02:13.41\00:02:15.32 but even if you don't know every rule of etiquette, 00:02:15.35\00:02:17.38 if you don't know every custom, 00:02:17.41\00:02:19.13 there's still an approach 00:02:19.16\00:02:20.59 that will break down every barrier, 00:02:20.62\00:02:22.18 but we'll talk more about that later. 00:02:22.21\00:02:24.39 First stop, let's travel to Botswana 00:02:24.42\00:02:26.80 and meet Ishmael, a Global Mission pioneer. 00:02:26.83\00:02:29.71 The challenge to spread 00:02:34.41\00:02:35.72 the message of Christ is evident. 00:02:35.75\00:02:39.03 There are many countries, many languages, 00:02:39.06\00:02:41.88 places still not entered by even our civilization. 00:02:41.91\00:02:45.41 When you think of the primitive tribes of the Amazon, 00:02:45.44\00:02:48.22 Eskimos in Polar Regions 00:02:48.25\00:02:50.38 or even the multitudes of people in the 1040 window 00:02:50.41\00:02:54.09 who never even once heard the powerful name of Jesus? 00:02:54.12\00:03:00.05 The challenge is unquestionably larger 00:03:00.08\00:03:02.47 than what we can overcome by ourselves, 00:03:02.50\00:03:04.84 yet God touches the heart of simple men and women 00:03:04.87\00:03:08.42 who become brave and zealous 00:03:08.45\00:03:10.32 for fulfilling the commission of God, 00:03:10.35\00:03:12.65 to take the gospel to every tribe, 00:03:12.68\00:03:15.24 language and people. 00:03:15.27\00:03:19.73 We become people, people like David 00:03:19.76\00:03:23.76 who faced a true giant. 00:03:23.79\00:03:29.28 Meet a modern hero, his name is Ishmael, 00:03:29.31\00:03:32.29 he is a Global Mission pioneer. 00:03:32.32\00:03:34.62 A pioneer is a person who is answering God's call. 00:03:34.65\00:03:37.92 A pioneer's soul is filled with compassion 00:03:37.95\00:03:40.77 overflowing with love and dedication for others. 00:03:40.80\00:03:44.18 A pioneer pauses his or her life 00:03:44.21\00:03:46.60 to tell people about Jesus within their own culture 00:03:46.63\00:03:49.71 often in remote areas far from the coziness of home 00:03:49.74\00:03:54.18 away from friends, family or church, 00:03:54.21\00:03:56.58 he lives much like Jesus did. 00:03:56.61\00:03:59.37 Here Ishmael sacrifices his comfort 00:03:59.40\00:04:01.70 to serve the Basarwa Tribe. 00:04:01.73\00:04:03.91 Daily he visits chief Cagosi 00:04:03.94\00:04:06.22 to pray for God's blessing upon this village, 00:04:06.25\00:04:08.97 then he visits the clinic staff and patients 00:04:09.00\00:04:12.24 and lastly the Basarwa children at school. 00:04:12.27\00:04:15.87 A pioneer uses the resources at hand 00:04:15.90\00:04:18.07 to bless the lives of those he comes in contact with. 00:04:18.10\00:04:21.70 On our visit we brought him a bag of oranges, 00:04:21.73\00:04:24.49 this is a sweet treat here in the Kalahari Desert. 00:04:24.52\00:04:29.81 Almost as soon as Ishmael receive them, 00:04:29.84\00:04:32.39 he decided to share them with the children. 00:04:32.42\00:04:34.78 The children were elated. 00:04:34.81\00:04:37.40 By blessing the children, 00:04:37.43\00:04:38.70 Ishmael touches the heart of the parents 00:04:38.73\00:04:40.87 and the entire village. 00:04:40.90\00:04:42.30 His selfless dedication is a fresh and sweet sermon 00:04:42.33\00:04:45.61 that comes to life. 00:04:45.64\00:04:47.35 Through Ishmael's labors, 00:04:47.38\00:04:48.61 God is gaining the interest of the Basarwa people. 00:04:48.64\00:04:51.72 The villagers have invited the Bible into their homes 00:04:51.75\00:04:54.34 and in the community hall. 00:04:54.37\00:04:55.84 A Seventh-day Adventist Church has been set up here. 00:04:55.87\00:04:59.46 Thanks to God's love 00:04:59.49\00:05:01.16 drunkards, robbers, prostitutes, 00:05:01.19\00:05:03.98 gang members and others have their lives changed. 00:05:04.01\00:05:08.52 I used to be a gang member 00:05:08.55\00:05:09.92 and engage in lots of evil activities 00:05:09.95\00:05:12.05 against this village. 00:05:12.08\00:05:13.77 I was addicted to alcohol and tobacco as well. 00:05:13.80\00:05:17.38 I drink heavily, smoked and I got into fights often, 00:05:17.41\00:05:21.74 but after I joined this church, 00:05:21.77\00:05:23.63 I received power to leave all of this behind. 00:05:23.66\00:05:28.05 Since Ishmael came to this village, 00:05:28.08\00:05:29.84 we have seen remarkable change, 00:05:29.87\00:05:31.92 because of his preaching 00:05:31.95\00:05:33.05 a lot of social ills have been alleviated here. 00:05:33.08\00:05:36.35 This used to be a dangerous place 00:05:36.38\00:05:37.98 where people would often be killed. 00:05:38.01\00:05:39.85 Now we feel we are free to speak the truth. 00:05:39.88\00:05:44.43 There is still a lot of work to do here in Bere 00:05:44.46\00:05:47.01 and many neighboring villages to face this giant. 00:05:47.04\00:05:51.00 Ishmael's main weapon is prayer 00:05:51.03\00:05:54.56 Some other people, 00:05:54.59\00:05:57.11 they don't welcome me in the homes. 00:05:57.14\00:06:02.16 When I reach their places, 00:06:02.19\00:06:03.87 some they go out of their homes, 00:06:03.90\00:06:07.16 they move away, some they don't listen to me. 00:06:07.19\00:06:10.30 But I am always praying for them, 00:06:10.33\00:06:12.27 and I have seen some changes, 00:06:12.30\00:06:14.40 when other people continue to pray for them 00:06:14.43\00:06:18.42 as I continue to go into their places. 00:06:18.45\00:06:21.91 So some they have already started to welcome me 00:06:21.94\00:06:24.46 to study with them and to pray with them. 00:06:24.49\00:06:27.74 Prayer is the most effective tool. 00:06:27.77\00:06:29.84 It links the heart of a pioneer to the heart of God. 00:06:29.87\00:06:33.01 It brings change that can only come from above. 00:06:33.04\00:06:36.62 Thank you for your prayers and support of mission 00:06:36.65\00:06:39.34 and Global Mission Pioneers working around the world. 00:06:39.37\00:06:43.40 In the past 20 years or so 00:06:49.90\00:06:51.49 Global Mission Pioneers have planted 00:06:51.52\00:06:54.11 thousands of Seventh-day Adventist congregations 00:06:54.14\00:06:57.16 in un entered areas around the world. 00:06:57.19\00:06:59.54 They have led tens of thousands of people 00:06:59.57\00:07:01.29 to come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. 00:07:01.32\00:07:04.75 Pioneers live sacrificially 00:07:04.78\00:07:06.80 and Christ has used them to touch people with his love. 00:07:06.83\00:07:10.94 Next stop, let's travel to Botswana, 00:07:10.97\00:07:13.30 where Priscila Simon is talking with Ishmael, 00:07:13.33\00:07:15.86 a Global Mission Pioneer. 00:07:15.89\00:07:18.44 Thank you, 00:07:18.47\00:07:19.56 we're here in the South Botswana Conference 00:07:19.59\00:07:22.39 with Pastor Ishmael. 00:07:22.42\00:07:24.05 Welcome, pastor. 00:07:24.08\00:07:25.34 You're welcome. 00:07:25.37\00:07:26.75 Tell us you're Global Mission Pioneer 00:07:26.78\00:07:29.11 in South Conference of Botswana. 00:07:29.14\00:07:31.21 Tell us about your interaction with the community? 00:07:31.24\00:07:35.83 I'm working with this community in Bere, 00:07:35.86\00:07:38.54 so they are highly welcome me 00:07:38.57\00:07:41.06 and we are working together hand in hand 00:07:41.09\00:07:44.07 in the ministry and they love me, 00:07:44.10\00:07:48.97 they love to read with me, 00:07:49.00\00:07:50.96 and they like the duty that I'm doing here. 00:07:50.99\00:07:55.83 Yeah. 00:07:55.86\00:07:56.92 What were some challenges that you had 00:07:56.95\00:07:58.17 when you first got here into the village? 00:07:58.20\00:08:00.67 It was very hard, when I reached this place. 00:08:00.70\00:08:06.22 The first thing was a language barrier. 00:08:06.25\00:08:09.50 So even today we are still having a language barrier, 00:08:09.53\00:08:13.16 but they-- 00:08:13.19\00:08:15.99 by the time when I arrived 00:08:16.02\00:08:18.12 they didn't accepted the message, 00:08:18.15\00:08:20.26 but when we come to the end of the first year of my arrival 00:08:20.29\00:08:26.03 as we're now I see some more people 00:08:26.06\00:08:29.08 stay into corresponded to the will of God. 00:08:29.11\00:08:33.05 It came clear to them 00:08:33.08\00:08:35.29 as I've been baptizing some people 00:08:35.32\00:08:37.68 a few some two months back. 00:08:37.71\00:08:40.38 Wow. Yeah. 00:08:40.41\00:08:41.47 It's so amazing. 00:08:41.50\00:08:42.77 Well, and I heard you have some special privileges 00:08:42.80\00:08:46.05 that a chief of the village has given you. 00:08:46.08\00:08:48.08 What are some of them? 00:08:48.11\00:08:50.91 Sometime when the chief called the meetings at their Kgotla, 00:08:50.94\00:08:56.01 they're also inviting me, 00:08:56.04\00:08:58.84 totally in different difference 00:08:58.87\00:09:01.44 that I've been here at their Kgotla. 00:09:01.47\00:09:03.42 The chief is always calling me 00:09:03.45\00:09:05.53 to come there and start the Bible, 00:09:05.56\00:09:07.05 we do a prayer or by reading the verse, 00:09:07.08\00:09:09.61 so that when we start the meetings all, 00:09:09.64\00:09:11.88 whatever it will be done on that Kgotla. 00:09:11.91\00:09:15.01 I'm also presented there. 00:09:15.04\00:09:17.13 So what's the importance of the main hut here for the-- 00:09:17.16\00:09:19.63 in this community? 00:09:19.66\00:09:22.16 The important thing here in the community, 00:09:22.19\00:09:27.66 they love to gather-- 00:09:27.69\00:09:28.72 gather together in some special events, 00:09:28.75\00:09:34.76 they used to read together, 00:09:34.79\00:09:37.33 sometimes they even called it to the Kgotla 00:09:37.36\00:09:40.21 for some special meetings 00:09:40.24\00:09:42.42 and some other ceremonies, they did the Kgotla, 00:09:42.45\00:09:45.43 so they love that and they always come in, 00:09:45.46\00:09:49.49 in higher numbers to attend to that. 00:09:49.52\00:09:52.85 And as far as I understand it's not that easy for, 00:09:52.88\00:09:56.61 for a Christian leader to come into the mean hut 00:09:56.64\00:09:58.93 right so the chief has given you special privileges, 00:09:58.96\00:10:02.09 if we can say that? 00:10:02.12\00:10:03.49 Yeah.
