00:01 Welcome back to our 360 degree view of the world.
00:04 Coming up next is a story 00:05 of a Global Mission Pioneer name Derek 00:08 and we're traveling to the other side of the planet 00:11 where Earley Simon is talking with Derek. 00:13 Over to you, Earley. 00:15 Thanks, we're here in South Zambia, 00:17 and today we gonna be speaking 00:18 with the Global Mission Pioneer. 00:20 These are one of the most exciting people you meet. 00:23 His name is Derek, he's been working in Chingola. 00:25 Welcome, Derek. 00:26 Yes, yeah, welcome, Sir. Thank you, sir. 00:29 And, Derek, what is it to be a Global Mission Pioneer? 00:33 Global Mission Pioneer is to going in un-entered area 00:37 and different churches Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:41 We have this nice daily existence. 00:43 We go in that area where there is no SDA existence. 00:49 And why have you chosen to be a Global Mission Pioneer? 00:51 I've chosen this work 00:53 because I have seen the greatest need for those people 00:57 who have not received the Christ. 00:59 In that area where I'm-- 01:02 there is a this church-- 01:03 church of Christ-- 01:05 church of Christ occupied territory, 01:07 where by no SDA church is planted there. 01:11 Therefore I-- it grieved me to see an area 01:15 where Christ has not received any-- 01:19 So that's why I've been encouraged to go there, 01:23 I encouraged my son to go there and work here as a pioneer. 01:28 And how do you or what methods do you use 01:30 to share the gospel of Christ? 01:33 Well, to share the gospel of message, 01:35 I use some tracks, Voice of Prophecy tracks. 01:39 Well, which I distributed to those people nearby, 01:45 wherever I go, 01:47 secondary I just use Bible studies, Mary Bible. 01:52 There are two ways of conducting-- 01:56 you're reaching those people. 01:57 First we socialize with them, 01:59 we commune or we beware unknown to them, 02:04 then we sending tracks to them 02:06 and I'm starting questions after. 02:09 Another method is to go directly 02:12 and speak through that prayer lesson with a Bible. 02:17 So, Derek, as you work as a Global Mission Pioneer. 02:20 Do you work by yourself? 02:22 I work by myself but with wife. 02:25 So you bring your wife along? 02:26 Yeah, I take with my wife. 02:27 And you have any kids? 02:29 Yes, I have kids, I have eight, eight kids. 02:32 Eight kids? Eight, yes. 02:33 So you work here as a Global Mission Pioneer with your wife, 02:36 but you still have eight kids to support back home. 02:38 Yes, I have to support my children to go to school, 02:41 this is the work which I'm doing even now. 02:44 yes, have that burden, 02:46 so a country which even though I had such difficulties over-- 02:51 going into the field as a pioneer, 02:54 but I can't because I know how greatest the working is, 02:59 people are dying without knowing God, 03:01 it so, it grieved me seriously. 03:05 That's what I tried the other side, 03:07 I so put my children aside, 03:09 in some ways I go as a pioneer, that's what I'm doing this. 03:14 And God has always provided for you something. 03:16 Yes, God did not let me down, 03:19 I have to ride the road by all means, 03:21 you know there are some areas of areas 03:23 but I succeeded somewhat in some areas, 03:26 I succeeded, I succeeded yes. 03:28 Okay. 03:29 There is a part of your story 03:31 where you were working as a Global Mission Pioneer. 03:33 Yes. 03:34 But then your contract ended, 03:36 but there is still work to do, what happened then? 03:40 Yes, during those years we were on self-supporting, 03:45 I used most of the rents is on-- 03:50 I was born in an my native area in Nathari, 03:53 and after the rainy season then again I go there, I wait, 03:58 rain season comes I come back and I have some things to, 04:03 easy to go to take that to that press. 04:06 So when you say that you were self supporting 04:08 that makes it sound like, 04:09 okay, that's no big deal, 04:11 but in reality we know that you were going, 04:13 stopping your work, going farming, 04:16 earning your money with very hard work, 04:19 bringing those funds back 04:20 so that you can continue working, 04:22 taking the message of Jesus in those remote areas. 04:26 Yes, during those years when I was not supported, 04:29 but now I'm being supported. 04:30 You are? Yes. 04:31 Good to be supported I guess. 04:35 How do you reached the place 04:36 where you're now working as a Global Mission Pioneer? 04:38 Yes, we sometimes from Chingola up to 04:42 just over almost 15 kilometers, 04:45 we use a bicycle, then we have to ride to 15 kilometers, 04:49 we leave the bicycle and move on foot climbing the hills. 04:54 So even the bicycle won't go. 04:55 We can't. You can't reach. 04:56 No vehicle, no-- 04:59 no bicycle can go through this into the high mountains. 05:02 I'm going up and then down. 05:04 So you put your backpack on. Yes. 05:06 Then you hike all the way to the village? 05:07 Yes, I leave the bicycle to someone, 05:10 well, who are known to me. 05:11 Then I go on foot, going in to the hills. 05:14 So if there is one global mission pioneer 05:15 that's really out there, that would be you. 05:18 In that area we need so many pioneers, 05:21 yeah, some more-- we have some-- 05:27 we are supposed to have four or five pioneers 05:30 to cover that area. 05:32 Wow. Yes. 05:33 So we need more pioneers? 05:34 Yes, we need more pioneers. 05:36 You know that the world churches there are many people 05:38 who have been praying for your work 05:40 and who have also supported pioneers, 05:42 but we need even more pioneers, more literature, I imagine. 05:46 If you can leave a message to the people 05:47 who have supported your work, 05:49 their prayers or their donations. 05:51 What would you tell them? 05:52 Yes, those people I think to encourage the people 05:57 who are supporting pioneers, 05:59 I still encourage them to go-- 06:01 to continue supporting because, 06:03 it's a wide area, maybe we can cover that area, 06:07 maybe four to five years, 06:10 non residents back in those years. 06:12 We can't send to area where no vehicle can pass, 06:16 so ordinary by physic so I say-- 06:19 to need say supporting so I'm encouraging well, 06:23 which has to support it, 06:26 to have a support to continue supporting us. 06:29 I'm personally very encouraged by the work 06:31 that Global Mission Pioneers like yourself do. 06:33 Yeah. You know. 06:34 May God continue to bless it? 06:35 Very thank you, Simon, God bless you also. 06:40 Thanks, Earley, I just love to hear stories 06:42 about Global Mission Pioneers. 06:44 Let's continue to pray for Derek and other pioneers 06:47 working around the world. 06:49 This quarter our 13th Sabbath Offerings 06:51 are going to help support projects 06:53 in the Euro-Asian region of the world. 06:56 There's tremendous needs there 06:58 and if you want to learn more about the projects, 07:00 you can go to our website at adventistmission.org. 07:03 Let's visit two of the schools in the country of Ukraine 07:07 that will benefit from this quarter's offering. 07:15 Lviv is a city in Western Ukraine 07:17 that once was a major population center 07:20 for business and culture. 07:21 Now Lviv is full of history, long standing buildings 07:25 and sites that journey your mind 07:27 many hundreds of years back. 07:29 Lviv is also known for its many institutions of education, 07:33 but until recently it never had an Adventist school. 07:37 It all started with the family of Alexander, 07:39 who now is the principal of Lviv Adventists School. 07:42 He and his wife would home school 07:43 his two children and a friend. 07:46 This was a nice little classroom at home, 07:48 but the children grew lonely 07:50 and wished for a Christian school 07:51 and friends to play with. 07:53 They soon decided to pray and ask their Heavenly Father. 07:56 They prayed that God would provide them a school 07:58 and many children to attend. 08:00 Little did they know, that this was no small request. 08:04 Coincidently the same prayer was also in the heart 08:07 of local conference administrators 08:09 and at the right time Alexander was asked to start 08:12 an Adventist School in this region. 08:14 The leaders quickly realized 08:15 that they needed a building for the school. 08:18 So Alexander began to rally church members 08:20 to pray for God's provision. 08:22 Then conference administrators 08:24 decided to move out of their conference building 08:26 and donate it to become 08:27 Lviv's first Seventh-day Adventist School. 08:30 Everything happened so quickly, 08:32 the children in the community were invited to attend 08:35 and at the turn of the year, 08:36 the new school was opened. 08:39 Here in Lviv Adventist School, 08:40 the children learn their subjects 08:42 with a wholesome approach, 08:43 they gather each morning to hear Bible stories, 08:46 sing songs and pray that God will bless them 08:48 to grow as fruitful people. 08:50 In addition to regular classes, 08:52 the children here have a chance 08:53 to learn many different subjects, 08:55 like English, music, physical education, 08:58 and they eat daily meals together. 09:01 Now Lviv's leaders are praying again, 09:03 they are asking God for another miracle. 09:06 The children are growing but want to continue studying here. 09:10 There are also other children who want to enroll. 09:13 There is only one solution, 09:14 to acquire more space and extend the grades offered. 09:18 Lviv Adventist is currently a primary school 09:21 and the goal is to purchase a plot of land 09:24 and build rooms for secondary classes. 09:26 But how can they raise the funds? 09:29 It's important to remember 09:31 that this school began with prayer 09:33 and we continue to pray that the Lord will pave the way 09:37 for this institution to expand. 09:40 Prayer accomplishes much. 09:42 Will you join this group in prayer 09:43 and support of these projects? 09:50 Beautiful children, 09:52 sponge like minds and amazing parents and teachers. 09:57 Here in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, 09:58 a Seventh-day Adventist kindergarten and primary school 10:01 were established to train these eager minds. 10:04 The students come to learn from books, 10:05 but they also get to observe parents and teachers 10:08 who go beyond their call of duty. 10:11 In late 2012 the Vinnytsia Adventist School 10:14 started teaching in temporary rooms 10:16 at the local Adventist Church. 10:18 This initiative was so successful 10:20 that not much later the interest was overwhelming 10:23 and the school staff had no choice 10:25 but to purchase a new location. 10:27 An unfinished building sat on the property 10:29 and it was initially designed to be a school, 10:32 but there was so much to be done, 10:34 without resources or funds 10:36 the church called on their pastors for help. 10:38 And they came 40 plus of them 10:41 to continue construction of the new school building. 10:45 After the pastor's several weeks of work, 10:47 the parents and teachers decided 10:49 that it was their turn to build, 10:51 so they did and they plan to continue 10:53 on and off until the building is finished. 10:56 Every week parents and teachers 10:58 leave their regular work for an entire day 11:01 to join hands in giving their children 11:02 the best education they can have. 11:05 And you know the children understand it, 11:08 they see the effort put forth 11:10 and they learn the value of service. 11:13 There is one student 11:14 who is especially excited for the new building. 11:16 Her name is Dasha. 11:18 She is currently attending Vinnytsia Adventist School, 11:21 but this is the highest grade the school currently offers. 11:24 Dasha deeply loves the school here, 11:26 and she does not want to have to move. 11:29 I really like to respect everyone shares for Jesus 11:32 and the positive attitude of everyone here. 11:34 I also like the way they teach the material 11:37 and the classes here at school. 11:39 Dasha's parents aren't Christians, 11:40 but they are also excited about the opportunity 11:43 for their daughter to continue studying here. 11:45 This institution has changed Dasha's life. 11:49 Before coming here, 11:50 she faced a lot of hardship in public schools. 11:53 Kids don't feel comfortable in public school, 11:56 and they desire to study in Adventist School. 11:58 Although there are a lot of 12:00 qualified teachers in public school, 12:02 often times they don't share kid's religious worldview. 12:05 So they try to twist them 12:07 and try to get them to believe very differently. 12:10 Plus, even the little ones 12:12 are forced to come to school on Saturday 12:14 and have to explain themselves if they don't. 12:18 The school administration is also searching for 12:20 government accreditation. 12:22 The only missing element now is the new location. 12:25 Please pray for Vinnytsia's move and expansion. 12:31 This quarter your 13th Sabbath Offering 12:34 will support the construction of the church in Kazan, 12:37 new schools in Vinnytsia and Cherkassy in Ukraine. 12:41 It will also expand schools in Lviv and in Dnipropetrovsk 12:45 and sponsor a center of influence in Belarus. 12:48 It's through your prayers and financial support 12:52 that projects like these continue to succeed. 12:59 Thank you so much for joining us on today's program, 13:01 and I hope you've been inspired 13:03 and your hearts have been touched 13:04 by the stories that you have seen 13:06 and heard from Russia to Togo, 13:09 to Global Mission Pioneers 13:11 working on the continent of Africa. 13:13 So many people and so many circumstances 13:15 in challenging areas are making a difference 13:19 by showing the love of Jesus Christ. 13:21 If you live in North America, 13:23 we'd like to give you a free gift, 13:25 it's a DVD full of Global Mission Pioneers stories. 13:29 Stories of lay people, 13:31 starting new congregations in challenging circumstances 13:34 all around the world will touch your hearts. 13:37 If you'd like a free copy, 13:38 just call the toll free number on your screens right now 13:41 or at anytime you can visit our website 13:43 at AdventistMission.org. 13:46 And thank you, so much 13:47 for your continuing financial and prayerful support 13:50 of Global Mission, 13:52 it does make a difference. 13:53 And I hope you can join me next time 13:55 right here on Global Mission Snapshots. |
