seminary in Zoaksky, Russian

which is about 75
miles south of Moscow.

Okay, so going to Ukraine,
tell me a story from there.

Ukraine, well, I met a
young man named Vladimir

and he told me the
most amazing story.

Vladimir, he grew
up alone with his mom,

his dad was out of the picture
00:07:02.22\00:07:03.98
when he was only three years old

and they had
very little resources.

They lived in a
very small apartment,

didn't have enough
money for food or electricity.

His mother became very
depressed and in fact decided

she wanted to commit suicide.

She made plans, she would send
Vladimir off to an orphanage

and then she
would take her life.

The day came, she
looked at Vladimir

and she couldn't do it.

She just hugged
him and hugged him,

cried and decided

she was gonna try
to make it through.

So for the next few years
they eked out in existence,

she worked at a cafe,

And a friend came up, and
invited to her to a concert

at a Seventh-day
Adventist Church.

And she liked music
and she thought, well,

it wouldn't hurt to go.

So she decided to
go with her friend.

This concert changed her life.

concert, she came home

that there is a God who loves us

more about this God.

Vladimir was excited

he could see a real
change in his mother.

Her face just
lit up and she said,

what I think we
need do is, get a Bible

but I don't know where.

And can you imaging not
knowing where to get a Bible,

it's so easy for us,
you know, I have had a Bible

since I was child I'm
sure you probably did too.

But here these people are
where can they get a Bible.

Well, few weeks went by

and Vladimir's
mom came home one day,

I found where
we can get a Bible.

Vladimir was excited just
one problem it wasn't cheap

it would cost two
weeks of her wages

and that meant
no money for food.

You know, what
are they gonna do?

So she approaches Vladimir,

mom can have Bible.

they started studies

Fantastic, you know,
when you look at places

that were communist countries
former communist countries,

today it seems that materialism

has crept in a little bit more
and it's more challenging now.

coming out of communism

Today its -- its different

not so much hunger for the word
