The church grew slowly from 1880 to 1990. 00:02:07.91\00:02:11.73 It was only 110 years later, 00:02:11.76\00:02:13.67 after Perestroika or the restructuring 00:02:13.70\00:02:16.00 that the religious 00:09:32.65\00:09:34.74 So she approaches Vladimir, 00:09:34.77\00:09:36.68 here is a situation what do you think? 00:09:36.71\00:09:41.00 You think we can go without food for two weeks 00:09:41.03\00:09:43.93 in order to get this Bible? 00:09:43.96\00:09:46.18 And Vladimir said, yes. 00:09:46.21\00:09:48.16 Now here is a 12 year old boy 00:09:48.19\00:09:50.40 willing to go without food for two weeks 00:09:50.43\00:09:53.90 so he and his mom can have Bible. 00:09:53.93\00:09:57.81 You know, and so-- 00:09:57.84\00:09:59.53 Its Sobering, isn't it? 00:09:59.56\00:10:00.83 It is. It is. 00:10:00.86\00:10:02.53 So, they bought the Bible. 00:10:02.56\00:10:05.29 They were hungry for food 00:10:05.32\00:10:08.04 but their hunger for the word for Jesus was satisfied 00:10:08.07\00:10:13.70 and everyday they read that Bible 00:10:13.73\00:10:17.38 their lives were completely changed, 00:10:17.41\00:10:19.63 they learned more about God, 00:10:19.66\00:10:22.06 they started studies 00:10:22.09\00:10:23.51 with the Seventh-day Adventist pastor 00:10:23.54\00:10:25.86 and they were later baptized. 00:10:25.89\00:10:28.55 Fantastic, you know, when you look at places 00:10:28.58\00:10:32.05 that were communist countries former communist countries, 00:10:32.08\00:10:36.34 that hunger for the Word of God 00:10:36.37\00:10:38.87 today it seems that materialism 00:10:38.90\00:10:42.22 has crept in a little bit more and it's more challenging now. 00:10:42.25\00:10:46.04 That's right, back then the countries 00:10:46.07\00:10:48.73 were just coming out of communism 00:10:48.76\00:10:51.31 things were wide open. 00:10:51.34\00:10:53.12 Today its -- its different 00:10:53.15\00:10:54.99 there is a lot more materialism not so much hunger for the word 00:10:55.02\00:11:00.99 but there are still people seeking 00:11:01.02\00:11:03.42 and we are finding ways to reach those people. 00:11:03.45\00:11:07.67 Now when you were at Zaoksky, 00:11:07.70\00:11:10.32 you were teaching young people 00:11:10.35\00:11:12.81 who now have become leaders I guess in that region? 00:11:12.84\00:11:15.91 That's right, we were privileged 00:11:15.94\00:11:17.57 to teach people from all over the Soviet Union 00:11:17.60\00:11:20.67 and those people now have gone back, 00:11:20.70\00:11:23.85 they are leaders throughout the Euro-Asia division. 00:11:23.88\00:11:27.41 Some are teaching there at Zaoksky 00:11:27.44\00:11:29.95 and there time to time we get to see them again 00:11:29.98\00:11:32.51 and it is really like going home 00:11:32.54\00:11:34.97 when we go back to Russia, Ukraine 00:11:35.00\00:11:39.27 it's great, it a privilege. 00:11:39.30\00:11:40.99 Now did you have kids when you were serving there? 00:11:41.02\00:11:44.29 Yes, our elder son Daniel is nine moths old, 00:11:44.32\00:11:47.66 when we went over there and so he grew up there 00:11:47.69\00:11:50.43 and he went first grade there in Zaoksky 00:11:50.46\00:11:53.59 and then our last year there we had our second child Heller 00:11:53.62\00:11:57.13 so she spent her first year there. 00:11:57.16\00:11:59.95 Well, Gina, thank you so much for sharing with us 00:11:59.98\00:12:02.50 and these magazines our viewers at home, 00:12:02.53\00:12:05.18 if you don't attend an Adventist church 00:12:05.21\00:12:06.97 and you don't hear these stories every week 00:12:07.00\00:12:09.36 you can actually find them on out website. 00:12:09.39\00:12:11.22 How do they find that, Gina? 00:12:11.25\00:12:13.29 Just simply go to our website AdventistMission.org, 00:12:13.32\00:12:17.00 go under resources and they can find 00:12:17.03\00:12:19.47 both of these magazines the adult and youth children's 00:12:19.50\00:12:23.87 just right there under resources 00:12:23.90\00:12:25.90 as well is DVD's of many of these same stories. 00:12:25.93\00:12:29.59 Fantastic. 00:12:29.62\00:12:30.68 So AdventistMission.org 00:12:30.71\00:12:32.06 for many stories, pictures, videos 00:12:32.09\00:12:34.77 about mission around the world. 00:12:34.80\00:12:36.52 Don't go away we'll be back right after a short break. 00:12:36.55\00:12:39.25
