In 2007 and 2011 your mission offerings 00:00:01.77\00:00:05.59 helped fund two schools projects in India, 00:00:05.62\00:00:08.53 both Raymond Memorial School and Lasalgaon Adventist School 00:00:08.56\00:00:12.74 benefited from your generous supports 00:00:12.77\00:00:14.78 of the mission offerings. 00:00:14.81\00:00:16.90 We are very happy to have this building 00:00:16.93\00:00:19.45 on the campus and because of the, 00:00:19.48\00:00:22.02 the world contribution, world church contribution 00:00:22.05\00:00:25.56 towards this new classroom building, 00:00:25.59\00:00:28.80 the face lifting of the campus 00:00:28.83\00:00:31.34 has gone very high. 00:00:31.37\00:00:33.61 And there are so many students who have enrolled, 00:00:33.64\00:00:37.97 newly enrolled for the school 00:00:38.00\00:00:41.16 and the admission has increased. 00:00:41.19\00:00:46.27 These classrooms would not have been possible 00:00:46.30\00:00:47.84 without your faithful giving. 00:00:47.87\00:00:50.30 Student smile fill the classrooms 00:00:50.33\00:00:52.00 to learn a variety of subjects. 00:00:52.03\00:00:54.31 There smiles are a testament to how grateful they are. 00:00:54.34\00:00:58.19 At Raymond Memorial School this boys dormitory building 00:00:58.22\00:01:01.47 was also built as a result of your giving. 00:01:01.50\00:01:04.27 It gives students a safe place to live. 00:01:04.30\00:01:07.12 The school is even adding on to the dorm 00:01:07.15\00:01:09.11 due to the increase of enrolment. 00:01:09.14\00:01:11.61 The students and faculty at Raymond Memorial 00:01:11.64\00:01:14.20 and Lasalgaon are so thankful for your contribution. 00:01:14.23\00:01:18.53 And we are thankful to God 00:01:18.56\00:01:21.78 that He has given us this opportunity 00:01:21.81\00:01:24.67 to spread the Word of God through education. 00:01:24.70\00:01:30.68 And therefore, this is such a nice thing 00:01:30.71\00:01:34.01 to stand and tell and witness 00:01:34.04\00:01:36.94 about the new building which is come up. 00:01:36.97\00:01:41.19 Thank you so much. 00:01:41.22\00:01:48.68 Well, we just saw a past 00:01:48.71\00:01:50.20 13th Sabbath Offering project in India 00:01:50.23\00:01:52.62 and I'm glad that Charlotte Ishkanian 00:01:52.65\00:01:54.91 has joined us to tell us more about this project. 00:01:54.94\00:01:57.85 How did it touched some lives, Charlotte. 00:01:57.88\00:02:00.41 You know, we never know 00:02:00.44\00:02:01.90 when we're building something how it will impact people. 00:02:01.93\00:02:06.35 But God has a way. 00:02:06.38\00:02:08.52 I would like to tell you story of a mother named Usha. 00:02:08.55\00:02:12.12 She is very poor. 00:02:12.15\00:02:13.44 She lives in Mumbai in the, in the ghetto. 00:02:13.47\00:02:17.01 She makes her living selling garlic 00:02:17.04\00:02:19.24 and little bits of rubbish that she can pick up, 00:02:19.27\00:02:21.61 cleaning peoples houses anything. 00:02:21.64\00:02:24.47 Her husband was an alcoholic 00:02:24.50\00:02:27.39 and he took everything he earned 00:02:27.42\00:02:30.06 and bought alcohol and if that wasn't enough 00:02:30.09\00:02:33.11 he took her earnings as well 00:02:33.14\00:02:34.80 and if she resisted he'd beat her. 00:02:34.83\00:02:37.47 Sometimes she actually came home and found 00:02:37.50\00:02:39.78 that he had gone through the meager basket of clothing 00:02:39.81\00:02:42.49 and sold their cloths to buy alcohol. 00:02:42.52\00:02:45.53 All this alcohol eventually killed him 00:02:45.56\00:02:47.90 leaving this woman with three small children 00:02:47.93\00:02:51.57 and no way to make life better for them. 00:02:51.60\00:02:54.86 Her dreams of sending them to school wore dust. 00:02:54.89\00:02:59.34 Then one day she is outside her home 00:02:59.37\00:03:01.68 and she hears singing. 00:03:01.71\00:03:03.87 She shies so she doesn't go 00:03:03.90\00:03:06.08 and look for the source of the singing. 00:03:06.11\00:03:08.75 But after two or three days 00:03:08.78\00:03:10.81 she feels led and goes next door to another little hut 00:03:10.84\00:03:14.82 where she is invited in and is asked to sit 00:03:14.85\00:03:18.16 and listen to stories about Jesus. 00:03:18.19\00:03:20.54 And there she learned how much Jesus loves her. 00:03:20.57\00:03:23.86 And she gave her heart to God. 00:03:23.89\00:03:26.48 Now she is still with poor and she is still struggling 00:03:26.51\00:03:29.07 and she still doesn't have a dream for her children. 00:03:29.10\00:03:31.90 But one day her pastor comes to talk to her. 00:03:31.93\00:03:34.81 And says I want to talk about your children. 00:03:34.84\00:03:37.59 I want them in an Adventist school. 00:03:37.62\00:03:40.77 Usha hung her head 00:03:40.80\00:03:42.31 because she could not afford an Adventist education. 00:03:42.34\00:03:45.43 She couldn't even afford the local language schools. 00:03:45.46\00:03:48.68 But the pastor said there is a way. 00:03:48.71\00:03:51.89 We can get your children a half scholarship 00:03:51.92\00:03:54.72 if you can pay the other half. 00:03:54.75\00:03:58.28 And with hope in her heart Usha said, let's try. 00:03:58.31\00:04:02.38 So she and he went together and enrolled her children 00:04:02.41\00:04:05.63 in the Adventist School that we just saw Lasalgaon 00:04:05.66\00:04:09.95 and they began living there learning about Jesus, 00:04:09.98\00:04:14.25 studying in English. 00:04:14.28\00:04:16.21 She is the thrilled today because her children 00:04:16.24\00:04:20.14 are learning to love God in a school 00:04:20.17\00:04:23.62 that will teach them to be good citizens, 00:04:23.65\00:04:26.83 will teach them good occupations for their future 00:04:26.86\00:04:29.92 and they're learning English 00:04:29.95\00:04:31.57 so that they have a head start over anyone else. 00:04:31.60\00:04:34.94 Now the beauty of our schools is 00:04:34.97\00:04:37.37 they don't just appeal to the poor. 00:04:37.40\00:04:39.62 They have the rich students, 00:04:39.65\00:04:40.90 they have Christians and non Christians 00:04:40.93\00:04:43.11 because teaching in an English language is very deserved. 00:04:43.14\00:04:48.18 We can't know what our offerings 00:04:48.21\00:04:51.98 will do for a school or a church 00:04:52.01\00:04:54.72 or whatever we're building until we examine the individuals 00:04:54.75\00:04:58.79 whose lives are being changed. 00:04:58.82\00:05:00.98 And Gary, in India probably nothing has affected 00:05:01.01\00:05:06.57 the work we're doing as much as Adventist education. 00:05:06.60\00:05:11.02 It's reached across our borders. 00:05:11.05\00:05:13.95 Now Charlotte, when we see a video like 00:05:13.98\00:05:16.84 that we see the hard way. 00:05:16.87\00:05:18.26 You're saying the people behind the story. 00:05:18.29\00:05:20.33 Yes. 00:05:20.36\00:05:21.39 So when people give their mission offerings 00:05:21.42\00:05:25.76 what can they expect will happen with those offerings? 00:05:25.79\00:05:29.69 We divide those offerings up amongst 00:05:29.72\00:05:32.29 the projects that are being featured 00:05:32.32\00:05:34.04 on the back of mission quarterly, 00:05:34.07\00:05:36.41 the back of our lesson quarterly to that tells what they are. 00:05:36.44\00:05:41.03 We divide that funds up. 00:05:41.06\00:05:42.79 And whatever we have given for projects goes directly 00:05:42.82\00:05:46.44 to those schools, those churches, those hospitals 00:05:46.47\00:05:49.35 for the project that was specified 00:05:49.38\00:05:52.39 and it is our obligation here in Adventist Mission 00:05:52.42\00:05:56.58 to follow up and make sure 00:05:56.61\00:05:58.58 that everyone of those is fulfilled completed 00:05:58.61\00:06:03.24 and is making a difference in people's lives. 00:06:03.27\00:06:05.74 Now, I saw the classroom block at Lasalgaon 00:06:05.77\00:06:10.27 before they rebuild it. 00:06:10.30\00:06:12.17 It was sad. 00:06:12.20\00:06:13.26 It was broken down, the roof was leaky, 00:06:13.29\00:06:17.32 it was a dangerous building to be in. 00:06:17.35\00:06:20.14 Today, it is a clean, modern, safe building. 00:06:20.17\00:06:24.58 The school is able to, to handle hundreds more students 00:06:24.61\00:06:28.81 who've been wanting to go but couldn't 00:06:28.84\00:06:31.15 because now they have the classrooms 00:06:31.18\00:06:33.45 to make it possible. 00:06:33.48\00:06:34.57 So portion of that offering goes to this specific projects 00:06:34.60\00:06:37.39 then the rest goes toward helping with missionaries 00:06:37.42\00:06:41.59 with schools, hospitals, a broad range of mission work. 00:06:41.62\00:06:45.53 Everything that our tithe doesn't cover 00:06:45.56\00:06:47.79 our mission offering has to cover. 00:06:47.82\00:06:50.02 And that's why it's so important 00:06:50.05\00:06:52.08 that we continue giving our mission offerings 00:06:52.11\00:06:55.50 every week or every quarter methodically. 00:06:55.53\00:06:58.39 Do you have to be a Seventh-day Adventist 00:06:58.42\00:07:01.08 to give a mission offering? 00:07:01.11\00:07:02.14 Oh, no. Okay. 00:07:02.17\00:07:03.20 Oh, no. 00:07:03.23\00:07:04.26 Yeah, so Adventist can give it at 00:07:04.29\00:07:06.53 that in church but people can go online 00:07:06.56\00:07:09.41 to AdventistMission.org 00:07:09.44\00:07:10.66 and can donate by credit card 00:07:10.69\00:07:12.70 to make a difference in people's lives. 00:07:12.73\00:07:14.35 Yes, and it does make a difference. 00:07:14.38\00:07:16.98 Thank you, Charlotte, so much for joining us today. 00:07:17.01\00:07:19.33 Thank you. Appreciate it. 00:07:19.36\00:07:20.56 And viewers at home, there is so much happening 00:07:20.59\00:07:23.76 in mission around the world 00:07:23.79\00:07:24.90 and you can go to AdventistMission.org, 00:07:24.93\00:07:27.84 there you can find videos that you can download. 00:07:27.87\00:07:30.63 You can find pictures, you can find missionary blogs, 00:07:30.66\00:07:33.99 you can find stories, everything you need to know about mission. 00:07:34.02\00:07:37.13 Let's go back to Southern Asia 00:07:37.16\00:07:38.56 to see more missions in action. 00:07:38.59\00:07:41.53 Because of the size of India there are Adventist schools 00:07:41.56\00:07:44.59 scattered throughout the country. 00:07:44.62\00:07:46.74 Flaiz Adventist College is just one of these 00:07:46.77\00:07:49.44 growing Adventist institutions. 00:07:49.47\00:07:52.06 On the campus of Flaiz students are focused on learning. 00:07:52.09\00:07:56.00 The theology department is especially full. 00:07:56.03\00:07:58.68 Students travel from all over India 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.74 to study theology here. 00:08:00.77\00:08:02.58 The professors make the lessons clear and easy to understand. 00:08:02.61\00:08:07.06 With open Bibles students are eager 00:08:07.09\00:08:09.34 to learn as much as they can. 00:08:09.37\00:08:11.47 Many of them want to become Adventist pastors 00:08:11.50\00:08:13.87 to take up the mission 00:08:13.90\00:08:14.93 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:08:14.96\00:08:16.88 Students and faculty know that we are here 00:08:16.91\00:08:19.10 to share the Gospel with the whole world. 00:08:19.13\00:08:22.44 Many students have to travel great distances 00:08:22.47\00:08:24.86 from home to get to Flaiz. 00:08:24.89\00:08:26.81 Some students travel for more than a week 00:08:26.84\00:08:28.92 on buses and trains to get here. 00:08:28.95\00:08:31.50 With the study increase in students 00:08:31.53\00:08:33.44 Flaiz is running out of space to house them. 00:08:33.47\00:08:36.51 This quarter's project at Flaiz 00:08:36.54\00:08:38.68 is to build a mens housing facility 00:08:38.71\00:08:40.52 for theology students. 00:08:40.55\00:08:42.18 Currently, they live in spare rooms 00:08:42.21\00:08:44.04 wherever they can be found. 00:08:44.07\00:08:45.67 Mixed in with the primary and secondary students 00:08:45.70\00:08:48.56 they need a place they call home for the school year. 00:08:48.59\00:08:51.56 They have already begun construction 00:08:51.59\00:08:53.37 of this new space because of the urgent need. 00:08:53.40\00:08:55.91 Please pray for these students 00:08:59.46\00:09:01.38 as they continue to answer God's call. 00:09:01.41\00:09:06.52 Along the India-Bhutan border 00:09:06.55\00:09:08.54 a congregation sings praises to Jesus. 00:09:08.57\00:09:11.82 In Bhutan less than 50% of the population is literate. 00:09:11.85\00:09:16.70 They rely on songs and stories 00:09:16.73\00:09:18.65 to teach about Jesus. 00:09:18.68\00:09:20.74 Those who can read share the words 00:09:20.77\00:09:22.45 from the Bible with those who cannot read. 00:09:22.48\00:09:25.39 This congregation has been gradually 00:09:25.42\00:09:27.44 adding members to their church 00:09:27.47\00:09:29.00 in this very challenging area. 00:09:29.03\00:09:30.73 Along with most of India there are few Christians here. 00:09:33.78\00:09:37.72 A variety of world religions dominate this region. 00:09:37.75\00:09:41.04 In Bhutan, Christians have been persecuted 00:09:41.07\00:09:43.77 and mistreated because of their beliefs. 00:09:43.80\00:09:46.38 Although this congregation stands strong in their believes. 00:09:46.41\00:09:49.96 They know the challenges 00:09:49.99\00:09:51.16 that exist right across the border. 00:09:51.19\00:09:54.46 The Himalayan Mountain range runs straight through Bhutan 00:09:54.49\00:09:57.57 creating a beautiful yet dangerous landscape. 00:09:57.60\00:10:01.08 Bhutan's terrain and legal restrictions make it 00:10:01.11\00:10:03.82 one of the least evangelized countries in the world. 00:10:03.85\00:10:07.20 There is a hunger for the gospel 00:10:07.23\00:10:08.78 that is crying out from the Bhutanese people. 00:10:08.81\00:10:12.61 Because of the challenges anyone interested 00:10:12.64\00:10:15.30 in Christianity has to come to India 00:10:15.33\00:10:17.42 or come into contact with a lay member. 00:10:17.45\00:10:19.84 The Bhutanese people have no place 00:10:19.87\00:10:21.83 to meet for worship, meetings and programs. 00:10:21.86\00:10:26.03 This quarter part of your 13th Sabbath Offering will go 00:10:26.06\00:10:28.75 to a building a meeting hall 00:10:28.78\00:10:30.12 on the border of Bhutan and India. 00:10:30.15\00:10:32.52 This will be a place to educate 00:10:32.55\00:10:34.56 and train more laypeople from Bhutan. 00:10:34.59\00:10:37.15 They need this building to continue 00:10:37.18\00:10:39.01 to reach the thousands 00:10:39.04\00:10:40.32 who have never even heard the name of Jesus. 00:10:40.35\00:10:43.81 In addition to helping share the message with Bhutan 00:10:43.84\00:10:46.83 your 13th Sabbath Offering will go toward 00:10:46.86\00:10:49.27 building classrooms in Kollegal. 00:10:49.30\00:10:51.41 It will also go toward building a mens dormitory 00:10:51.44\00:10:54.11 for theology students at Flaiz Adventist College. 00:10:54.14\00:10:57.57 Please pray for these projects. 00:10:57.60\00:10:59.80 Pray that God will use that everyone involved 00:10:59.83\00:11:02.16 to advance His work. 00:11:02.19\00:11:03.98 And thank you for supporting the mission 00:11:04.01\00:11:06.70 on the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:11:06.73\00:11:08.68 A recent article in Christianity Today Magazine 00:11:15.47\00:11:18.23 featured the work of Robert Woodberry 00:11:18.26\00:11:20.71 a sociologist who worked on a statistical study 00:11:20.74\00:11:23.80 of the connection between protestant missionaries 00:11:23.83\00:11:26.22 of the past with the, "current health of nations." 00:11:26.25\00:11:30.43 According to this
