On today's program, 00:00:01.06\00:00:02.18 the President of the General Conference 00:00:02.21\00:00:03.91 of Seventh-day Adventists, 00:00:03.94\00:00:06.07 a River Church in Benin and the 150th anniversary 00:00:06.10\00:00:10.50 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:00:10.53\00:00:12.80 All that and more coming up next on "Global Mission Snapshots." 00:00:12.83\00:00:17.00 Just before He went up to heaven, 00:00:27.48\00:00:29.98 Jesus gave us a command. 00:00:30.01\00:00:33.01 He gave us a mission. Jesus said, "Go. 00:00:33.04\00:00:38.14 Go unto all the world, telling them of His love. 00:00:38.17\00:00:43.07 This is our mission. This is our Global Mission." 00:00:43.10\00:00:47.01 Hello, I'm Gary Krause. 00:00:52.94\00:00:54.14 And welcome to Global Mission Snapshots. 00:00:54.17\00:00:57.19 Once again, we'll talk to the President 00:00:57.22\00:00:58.74 of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, 00:00:58.77\00:01:01.36 Pastor Ted Wilson. 00:01:01.39\00:01:03.34 The idea for Global Mission 00:01:03.37\00:01:04.70 started back in the late 1980's 00:01:04.73\00:01:07.57 when Pastor Ted Wilson's father pastor Neal C. Wilson 00:01:07.60\00:01:11.39 was president of the General Conference. 00:01:11.42\00:01:14.20 Pastor Neal C. Wilson played a major role 00:01:14.23\00:01:16.66 in focusing attention and resources 00:01:16.69\00:01:19.61 on un-reached people of the world. 00:01:19.64\00:01:21.93 Today his son will talk to us 00:01:21.96\00:01:23.46 about the continuing importance of Global Mission. 00:01:23.49\00:01:27.44 We'll also visit Battle Creek, Michigan 00:01:27.47\00:01:30.02 to look back at the 150 years 00:01:30.05\00:01:32.86 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:01:32.89\00:01:35.44 What have we learned and where are we headed? 00:01:35.47\00:01:38.29 And we'll talk to Nancy Kyte about a River Church in Benin, 00:01:38.32\00:01:42.27 but first let's visit that church. 00:01:42.30\00:01:44.55 Imagine, if this was the only way 00:02:10.08\00:02:12.12 for you to get to church each Sabbath, 00:02:12.15\00:02:15.67 as you skim along only inches above the water, 00:02:15.70\00:02:18.74 you pray that the boat won't hit a big wave. 00:02:18.77\00:02:21.84 For Seventh-day Adventists in the country of Benin, 00:02:21.87\00:02:24.64 this is a typical commute to church. 00:02:24.67\00:02:27.41 In this small country in Western Africa, 00:02:27.44\00:02:29.58 small villages are often connected 00:02:29.61\00:02:31.16 by only rivers and lakes. 00:02:31.19\00:02:33.99 Here, local people earned a living by fishing 00:02:34.02\00:02:37.14 and selling goods to others in their community. 00:02:37.17\00:02:40.42 For the Adventist Church, these rural communities 00:02:40.45\00:02:43.25 are not a stumbling block to spreading the gospel. 00:02:43.28\00:02:46.96 Instead, a Global Mission pioneer has taken 00:02:46.99\00:02:49.72 it as a personal challenge to reach 00:02:49.75\00:02:52.04 as many people as possible in this aquatic wilderness. 00:02:52.07\00:02:56.57 [speaking in foreign language] 00:02:56.60\00:02:57.89 My greatest joy is to preach to the people 00:02:57.92\00:03:00.45 so that when Christ comes, 00:03:00.48\00:03:02.04 we may be together in heaven. This is Francis. 00:03:02.07\00:03:05.97 He's been a Global Mission pioneer 00:03:06.00\00:03:07.36 in this area for 12 years. 00:03:07.39\00:03:09.67 In that time, he's raised up three church groups 00:03:09.70\00:03:12.60 with a total membership of more than 150 people. 00:03:12.63\00:03:16.13 Despite the challenges of this environment, 00:03:16.16\00:03:18.35 the church here has grown. 00:03:18.38\00:03:20.85 With the leading of the Holy Spirit, 00:03:20.88\00:03:22.67 Francis has been able to spread 00:03:22.70\00:03:24.09 the message of Jesus' love 00:03:24.12\00:03:26.30 and redemption to a population 00:03:26.33\00:03:28.31 that has traditionally rejected Christianity. 00:03:28.34\00:03:31.49 Benin is the birth place of Voodoo, 00:03:31.52\00:03:34.39 and the majority of people here are spirit worshipers. 00:03:34.42\00:03:38.13 Yet in the middle of these small villages, 00:03:38.16\00:03:41.15 Francis has been able to reach out 00:03:41.18\00:03:43.13 to people looking for a new way of life. 00:03:43.16\00:03:47.23 My greatest challenge is to tell the people here of the gospel 00:03:47.26\00:03:50.80 and then to help provide them with a place to worship God. 00:03:50.83\00:03:55.54 A portion of the 13th Sabbath Offerings 00:03:55.57\00:03:57.68 this quarter will help build 00:03:57.71\00:03:59.61 a new church in one of these small villages. 00:03:59.64\00:04:02.66 Not only will church members here be physically blessed 00:04:02.69\00:04:05.66 with a new building, 00:04:05.69\00:04:07.15 but they will draw strength knowing 00:04:07.18\00:04:09.65 that Adventist believers around the world 00:04:09.68\00:04:12.35 have joined together to help share 00:04:12.38\00:04:13.92 a message of hope in their village. 00:04:13.95\00:04:17.49 Thank you for doing your part 00:04:17.52\00:04:19.92 to answer Jesus' call to tell the world. 00:04:19.95\00:04:25.35 To learn more about mission, 00:04:25.38\00:04:27.43 please visit www.adventistmission.org. 00:04:27.46\00:04:32.21 Nancy Kyte is the Marketing Director for Adventist Mission. 00:04:35.87\00:04:39.96 And I'm delighted to welcome you 00:04:39.99\00:04:41.33 to the program, Nancy. Thank you. 00:04:41.36\00:04:43.38 Not so long ago you traveled to West Africa, 00:04:43.41\00:04:45.69 to the country of Benin, and I guess many people know 00:04:45.72\00:04:50.34 if this country being the home of Voodoo. 00:04:50.37\00:04:52.54 Yes, that is correct. 00:04:52.57\00:04:54.10 And today that is still a prevailing view 00:04:54.13\00:04:57.62 in the country, 00:04:57.65\00:04:58.76 is that the great-- It still is. 00:04:58.79\00:05:00.13 In fact, a lot of the people that I talked to told me 00:05:00.16\00:05:02.38 that they had been dedicated to Voodoo as babies. 00:05:02.41\00:05:07.03 So kind of like where were dedicate children to God, 00:05:07.06\00:05:10.03 these children were dedicated to Voodoo 00:05:10.06\00:05:11.94 and they carried out with them. 00:05:11.97\00:05:14.04 But we have a Seventh-day Adventist presence 00:05:14.07\00:05:16.04 in their country with school, a school I guess and-- 00:05:16.07\00:05:20.32 Well, not a school yet. 00:05:20.35\00:05:21.66 Okay, we will come back to that another time. All right. 00:05:21.69\00:05:23.87 Okay. But we have churches. 00:05:23.90\00:05:25.73 We do have churches. 00:05:25.76\00:05:26.99 And you visited a unique church which is a River Church. 00:05:27.02\00:05:30.95 Tell me about that experience. 00:05:30.98\00:05:32.67 Well, I first saw a video clip of this several years ago 00:05:32.70\00:05:35.68 and I was so impressed with it. 00:05:35.71\00:05:36.90 Because all of these homes are along the river 00:05:36.93\00:05:40.32 and they have two rainy seasons each year. 00:05:40.35\00:05:42.76 So every time it rains, the entire area floods 00:05:42.79\00:05:45.88 and people will have to boat to their neighbors 00:05:45.91\00:05:47.80 or they'll swim over across what used to be a road. 00:05:47.83\00:05:51.00 So all of these homes, shops, whatever 00:05:51.03\00:05:56.07 and churches are right along the river. 00:05:56.10\00:05:58.19 And we had a chance to see the one 00:05:58.22\00:06:00.27 that I had seen several years ago. 00:06:00.30\00:06:02.54 Now that church was falling was apart 00:06:02.57\00:06:04.89 and today it's not even habitable. 00:06:04.92\00:06:07.09 Is that right? Because of the weather? 00:06:07.12\00:06:10.03 The weather eats at it. 00:06:10.06\00:06:11.60 And it was a very simple church just built on stilts. 00:06:11.63\00:06:14.98 A Global Mission pioneer had gone to that area 00:06:15.01\00:06:17.35 and started a new congregation. 00:06:17.38\00:06:19.78 They worshipped there, 00:06:19.81\00:06:20.92 but as the elements tore away at the structure, 00:06:20.95\00:06:25.99 it was no longer able to be in use at all. 00:06:26.02\00:06:28.80 It's standing, but that's it. 00:06:28.83\00:06:30.75 We can't climb up the ladder to get into it at all. 00:06:30.78\00:06:33.91 So how did you get there? 00:06:33.94\00:06:35.84 We went on a boat. Okay. 00:06:35.87\00:06:37.92 It was larger than a canoe, but-- 00:06:37.95\00:06:42.34 And I'm not the best one for balance, Gary, 00:06:42.37\00:06:44.58 so I was very nervous about this boat. 00:06:44.61\00:06:46.47 I would like to see. 00:06:46.50\00:06:49.17 I was trying to be confident, but I managed, 00:06:49.20\00:06:52.06 I was able to get in the boat and get out of the boat 00:06:52.09\00:06:55.02 and our first stop at this where the new church is now 00:06:55.05\00:06:58.64 that has replaced the old one that was falling apart. 00:06:58.67\00:07:01.71 The church members were there. 00:07:01.74\00:07:03.31 The head elder was there, had a hand 00:07:03.34\00:07:05.63 and helping me get out of the boat safely 00:07:05.66\00:07:08.69 and it's all marshy area. 00:07:08.72\00:07:10.79 So we had to go across a little footbridge, 00:07:10.82\00:07:13.30 with little slats and everything. 00:07:13.33\00:07:15.46 And of course, they are used to it. 00:07:15.49\00:07:18.10 His wife had twins carrying a baby in front of her 00:07:18.13\00:07:21.53 and also on her back 00:07:21.56\00:07:22.73 and she was just doting around, giving me instructions. 00:07:22.76\00:07:25.07 Step here, step there, but we got to the church 00:07:25.10\00:07:28.28 and it's going to last a very, very long time. 00:07:28.31\00:07:32.11 Now, how was this church built? I mean, how is it funded? 00:07:32.14\00:07:35.70 The church was built through 00:07:35.73\00:07:37.50 part of the 13th Sabbath Mission Offerings. Okay. 00:07:37.53\00:07:41.41 And for those viewers who may not be familiar 00:07:41.44\00:07:44.08 with 13th Sabbath Mission Offerings, 00:07:44.11\00:07:45.30 what are they? 00:07:45.33\00:07:46.36 That is a special offering that funds special projects 00:07:46.39\00:07:50.32 beyond what's already being supported by the church. 00:07:50.35\00:07:53.03 Okay, so viewers at home, 00:07:53.06\00:07:55.65 if you don't attend the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:07:55.68\00:07:57.71 and you don't have the opportunity to contribute 00:07:57.74\00:07:59.72 to 13th Sabbath Offerings, 00:07:59.75\00:08:01.76 you can go to adventistmission.org 00:08:01.79\00:08:04.30 and there you'll see where you can give to support 00:08:04.33\00:08:06.25 these mission projects. 00:08:06.28\00:08:07.86 And 13th Sabbath Offering projects through history 00:08:07.89\00:08:11.57 have gone to very special types of things. 00:08:11.60\00:08:14.12 Planes, mission birds, etcetera. 00:08:14.15\00:08:17.17 Yes, that is correct. 00:08:17.20\00:08:18.84 Now the Global Mission pioneers that you met, describe them. 00:08:18.87\00:08:22.41 They're out going, they're energetic, 00:08:22.44\00:08:24.61 they like people 00:08:24.64\00:08:26.20 and they are also well liked by those 00:08:26.23\00:08:28.88 who come and contact with them. 00:08:28.91\00:08:30.69 So they seem to have a knack of learning people's names, 00:08:30.72\00:08:35.03 getting acquainted with them on a personal level 00:08:35.06\00:08:37.10 and becoming their friend. 00:08:37.13\00:08:38.29 Right, and Global Mission pioneers, 00:08:38.32\00:08:40.35 these are not trained pastors. 00:08:40.38\00:08:41.97 They are lay people who on a very small living 00:08:42.00\00:08:46.22 start putting just working among their 00:08:46.25\00:08:47.63 own people to plant a church. Yes. 00:08:47.66\00:08:49.78 Did you meet any of the church members? 00:08:49.81\00:08:52.71 The church members were terrific. 00:08:52.74\00:08:55.46 They-- In every place, in fact, 00:08:55.49\00:08:57.66 they visited two small churches 00:08:57.69\00:08:59.10 beyond that also on the river. 00:08:59.13\00:09:00.99 In every place, the available church members 00:09:01.02\00:09:03.17 because it was during a week, would gather 00:09:03.20\00:09:05.55 and then they would sing a welcome... 00:09:05.58\00:09:07.73 Oh, that's nice. 00:09:07.76\00:09:08.79 To our group, they would play instruments, 00:09:08.82\00:09:12.08 they sang well. 00:09:12.11\00:09:14.42 Just a very generous spirit, very welcoming. 00:09:14.45\00:09:17.71 And, you know, you always feel at home 00:09:17.74\00:09:19.23 when you see the church logo. Yeah. 00:09:19.26\00:09:21.53 And our church logo was maybe faded and crumbling, 00:09:21.56\00:09:24.93 but it was there. 00:09:24.96\00:09:26.69 So I felt a very strong connection 00:09:26.72\00:09:29.01 and I knew that it was a place that I belonged also. 00:09:29.04\00:09:32.42 Did the pioneers talk it all about 00:09:32.45\00:09:34.30 what sort of methods they used to start the congregation? 00:09:34.33\00:09:37.88 Well, some of them just started by becoming friends 00:09:37.91\00:09:41.41 and making themselves useful, helping with repairs, 00:09:41.44\00:09:44.67 helping in the fields, helping with transportation. 00:09:44.70\00:09:47.95 They would take a boat 00:09:47.98\00:09:49.04 and pick up people and drop them off. 00:09:49.07\00:09:52.64 Simple things like that 00:09:52.67\00:09:53.70 where they could get acquainted with people. 00:09:53.73\00:09:55.65 And in some cases, they just offered to do 00:09:55.68\00:09:57.97 some sort of class is that might be 00:09:58.00\00:09:59.61 a literacy classes for adults. 00:09:59.64\00:10:02.53 Okay, so they mingle and then they make friends 00:10:02.56\00:10:05.49 and lead people to Jesus. 00:10:05.52\00:10:06.55 Fantastic. Yes, very good. 00:10:06.58\00:10:08.09 Thank you, Nancy, for sharing with us. Thank you. 00:10:08.12\00:10:10.73 And viewers at home, 00:10:10.76\00:10:11.97 Global Mission pioneers are working around the world, 00:10:12.00\00:10:14.75 hundreds and hundreds of pioneers 00:10:14.78\00:10:16.91 working in often many challenging areas. 00:10:16.94\00:10:19.62 So please pray for Global Mission pioneers. 00:10:19.65\00:10:22.71 And to find out more about Global Mission pioneers, 00:10:22.74\00:10:25.15 to see their pictures, read the stories watch videos, 00:10:25.18\00:10:28.41 just go to our website 00:10:28.44\00:10:29.52 and you'll find that at adventistmission.org. 00:10:29.55\00:10:32.79 That's adventistmission.org. 00:10:32.82\00:10:35.05 It's my pleasure to introduce 00:11:20.90\00:11:22.41 our guest today Pastor Ted Wilson, 00:11:22.44\00:11:24.83 who is the President of the General Conference 00:11:24.86\00:11:26.77 of Seventh-day Adventist. Welcome, Elder Wilson. 00:11:26.80\00:11:29.76 Thank you, Gary. It's great to be here. 00:11:29.79\00:11:31.39 We're talking about Mission. And easy question for you. 00:11:31.42\00:11:35.21 Why is mission so important 00:11:35.24\00:11:37.56 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church? 00:11:37.59\00:11:40.45 Well, really Mission is an outgrowth 00:11:40.48\00:11:42.51 of a relationship with Jesus Christ, 00:11:42.54\00:11:45.39 and once you have that relationship 00:11:45.42\00:11:47.36 and it's a growing vibrant relationship. 00:11:47.39\00:11:49.98 You cannot constrain yourself 00:11:50.01\00:11:53.08 from telling somebody else about that relationship. 00:11:53.11\00:11:55.91 So Mission is not just a program, 00:11:55.94\00:11:58.60 it's not just some interesting idea 00:11:58.63\00:12:02.23 that some creative departmental director 00:12:02.26\00:12:04.66 came up with to kind of get people involved. 00:12:04.69\00:12:07.42 It is part and parcel of your relationship with the Lord. 00:12:07.45\00:12:10.97 Now by extension, the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:12:11.00\00:12:14.69 as a unit sees its mission 00:12:14.72\00:12:20.95 as the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:12:20.98\00:12:22.51 as a fulfillment of the wonderful opportunity 00:12:22.54\00:12:27.41 to proclaim the Three Angels' Messages 00:12:27.44\00:12:29.79 of Revelation 14:6-12. 00:12:29.82\00:12:34.44 And it also comes out of an understanding 00:12:34.47\00:12:36.35 that God has called an end-time people 00:12:36.38\00:12:39.49 to proclaim this unique message 00:12:39.52\00:12:41.37 and we find that in Revelation 12:17 00:12:41.40\00:12:44.70 about the people who keep the Commandments of God 00:12:44.73\00:12:47.24 and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. 00:12:47.27\00:12:50.31 So Mission just grows 00:12:50.34\00:12:52.89 out of our relationship with the Lord 00:12:52.92\00:12:55.54 and you just can't help yourself 00:12:55.57\00:12:57.83 from telling somebody about it. Right. 00:12:57.86\00:13:00.41 Now you chair a lot of committees, 00:13:00.44\00:13:02.69 you participate in many meetings, 00:13:02.72\00:13:05.02 we run so many institutions and organizations and entities. 00:13:05.05\00:13:09.85 How do you keep mission central? 00:13:09.88\00:13:11.77 I mean, it must be easy to be distracted with, 00:13:11.80\00:13:13.89 but just keeping things going, right? Absolutely. 00:13:13.92\00:13:17.06 You can get into an administrative bureaucratic rut 00:13:17.09\00:13:21.17 and you just travel down the same road you always have, 00:13:21.20\00:13:24.48 trying to take care of problems 00:13:24.51\00:13:26.09 and making sure that you know 00:13:26.12\00:13:28.19 at least people aren't shaken up too much. 00:13:28.22\00:13:33.90 And yet, it must always be a priority 00:13:33.93\00:13:37.73 what is this institution, what is this committee, 00:13:37.76\00:13:41.26 what is this action gonna do to further 00:13:41.29\00:13:44.82 the mission that the Lord has entrusted into our hands? 00:13:44.85\00:13:49.31 And that really is the most important thing 00:13:49.34\00:13:52.35 that any of us can be part of. 00:13:52.38\00:13:55.73 And really, it's one of those things 00:13:55.76\00:13:57.27 you just have to keep reminding yourself. 00:13:57.30\00:13:59.90 You have to keep going back to the word of God. 00:13:59.93\00:14:02.29 You've got to ask the Lord 00:14:02.32\00:14:03.77 help me to keep the mission in focus. 00:14:03.80\00:14:06.82 And if it isn't in focus, 00:14:06.85\00:14:08.71 you better take some time out and get it there 00:14:08.74\00:14:11.47 because mission is what really the church is all about. 00:14:11.50\00:14:15.64 Because if it's not contributing 00:14:15.67\00:14:16.98 to the mission, it's a distraction. Exactly. 00:14:17.01\00:14:20.32 And it doesn't contribute to the final goal 00:14:20.35\00:14:25.90 of why the church exists 00:14:25.93\00:14:27.56 and the Lord has formed the church 00:14:27.59\00:14:30.13 so that it can be an organized way, 00:14:30.16\00:14:32.69 everyone working together to accomplish 00:14:32.72\00:14:35.54 the great proclamation that Jesus is coming soon 00:14:35.57\00:14:37.96 and that is made a wave skate for us. 00:14:37.99\00:14:40.40 And it's all centered in Christ. 00:14:40.43\00:14:42.97 And that we need to warn people 00:14:43.00\00:14:45.12 about what's coming ahead, 00:14:45.15\00:14:47.60 but the warning is really a happy warning. 00:14:47.63\00:14:50.63 That God has put into place everything we need, 00:14:50.66\00:14:54.75 the statuary service itself tells us all about 00:14:54.78\00:14:58.49 how Jesus has made an opportunity for us to be 00:14:58.52\00:15:02.75 eternally with Him. 00:15:02.78\00:15:04.65 And that's really the wonderful message that we have 00:15:04.68\00:15:07.24 and that's why that has to be the spiritual focus 00:15:07.27\00:15:11.26 of any institution, any committee, 00:15:11.29\00:15:13.50 any initiative that we do. 00:15:13.53\00:15:15.59 What encourages you-- 00:15:15.62\00:15:17.24 When you travel in different parts of the world? 00:15:17.27\00:15:19.19 What encourages you about 00:15:19.22\00:15:20.51 the mission of the Adventist Church? 00:15:20.54\00:15:21.74 Do you see anything that you say, 00:15:21.77\00:15:23.56 wow, that's wonderful. I see a lot of things. 00:15:23.59\00:15:26.67 And believe me, I traveled a lot there, 00:15:26.70\00:15:28.36 too much probably, but as you do, 00:15:28.39\00:15:30.66 you travel a lot, too. 00:15:30.69\00:15:32.10 But I think what is most exciting 00:15:32.13\00:15:36.55 is to see church members 00:15:36.58\00:15:39.66 who have caught the vision of who we are as a people. 00:15:39.69\00:15:44.43 Why God has called the Seventh-day Adventist Church? 00:15:44.46\00:15:47.77 And it then is-- 00:15:47.80\00:15:50.32 It's translated into compassionate 00:15:50.35\00:15:54.49 and loving action to help people. 00:15:54.52\00:15:57.84 Jesus spent more time healing 00:15:57.87\00:16:00.87 and teaching than He did preaching. 00:16:00.90\00:16:02.84 In other words, there must be something about 00:16:02.87\00:16:04.76 what we do that actually speaks louder 00:16:04.79\00:16:08.06 than what we actually profess although it has to match. 00:16:08.09\00:16:12.41 But in reality, one of the things that are 00:16:12.44\00:16:15.54 so exciting is to see how people are grasping 00:16:15.57\00:16:21.14 the understanding that we're living 00:16:21.17\00:16:22.47 in the last days of Earth's history. 00:16:22.50\00:16:24.63 That truly Jesus is coming soon. 00:16:24.66\00:16:26.39 Prophetic interpretation has come to the point 00:16:26.42\00:16:30.14 where we have no more time prophecy. 00:16:30.17\00:16:32.85 And we know that the Lord's coming is very soon. 00:16:32.88\00:16:36.45 So that gives us an urgency. 00:16:36.48\00:16:38.65 And when I see especially young people, 00:16:38.68\00:16:41.26 getting so excited about their activities 00:16:41.29\00:16:45.47 and what they are able to do within the church setting 00:16:45.50\00:16:49.19 that I think is one of the most rewarding things, 00:16:49.22\00:16:52.67 where young people are just so in thrilled 00:16:52.70\00:16:56.47 with being able to do something in a practical way 00:16:56.50\00:17:00.20 to help people and to take the word of God and share it. 00:17:00.23\00:17:04.31 So really, it gets down to some very simple basic things 00:17:04.34\00:17:07.81 and that is sharing the love of Christ 00:17:07.84\00:17:10.15 with people through compassion, 00:17:10.18\00:17:12.38 through action and through word. 00:17:12.41\00:17:15.67 Now talking about young people, 00:17:15.70\00:17:16.86 you recently started a new initiative 00:17:16.89\00:17:19.67 called "One Year in Mission." What's that all about? 00:17:19.70\00:17:22.54 It's a very exciting program that is developing now 00:17:22.57\00:17:26.21 where we have chosen each division of the world, 00:17:26.24\00:17:29.59 I should say is, chosen one person, 00:17:29.62\00:17:31.92 one young person and really there are young adults. 00:17:31.95\00:17:35.26 They're in their early '20s, mid '20s, 00:17:35.29\00:17:38.84 young people who are very bright and creative. 00:17:38.87\00:17:42.24 And it's with the idea of having a large group 00:17:42.27\00:17:47.65 of young people being able to give one year 00:17:47.68\00:17:50.98 in service to their local conference or local field, 00:17:51.01\00:17:55.88 maybe to a larger area 00:17:55.91\00:17:57.33 and in some cases even outside of their division, 00:17:57.36\00:18:00.01 but most of it within their own area. 00:18:00.04\00:18:03.15 Giving Bible studies, doing community work, 00:18:03.18\00:18:05.89 helping people, 00:18:05.92\00:18:07.05 following in the footsteps of Jesus 00:18:07.08\00:18:09.20 and working in the big cities. 00:18:09.23\00:18:11.28 In fact, this pioneer group, this pilot group 00:18:11.31\00:18:15.47 coming from the 13 divisions and one attached union. 00:18:15.50\00:18:20.21 They're now-- They've been working in New York City. 00:18:20.24\00:18:23.56 Helping in a very dynamic way on the ground 00:18:23.59\00:18:26.51 right there on the frontlines meeting people's needs 00:18:26.54\00:18:30.08 and sharing the gospel with people. 00:18:30.11\00:18:32.43 It's just so exciting. 00:18:32.46\00:18:34.11 We have the opportunity of meeting them the other day 00:18:34.14\00:18:36.40 and talking with them, praying with them, 00:18:36.43\00:18:39.59 of interacting with them. 00:18:39.62\00:18:40.81 In fact, we took about an hour out of the schedule 00:18:40.84\00:18:44.73 of a special committee with all of General Conference 00:18:44.76\00:18:47.35 and division officers just to be with those young people. 00:18:47.38\00:18:51.16 And it was not only trilling for them, 00:18:51.19\00:18:53.89 it was trilling for us. Right. 00:18:53.92\00:18:55.29 It's just-- It's contagious to see young people 00:18:55.32\00:18:58.02 so excited about doing mission work for the Lord. 00:18:58.05\00:19:01.44 And we're hoping that all over the world 00:19:01.47\00:19:04.55 this "One Year in Mission" will catch hold 00:19:04.58\00:19:08.10 and the thousands of young people will be sponsored 00:19:08.13\00:19:11.20 by their local churches 00:19:11.23\00:19:13.30 or by their conference 00:19:13.33\00:19:15.56 to be in fold in sharing God's world. Fantastic. 00:19:15.59\00:19:19.85 Elder Wilson, thanks so much for sharing with us today. 00:19:19.88\00:19:22.63 Great privilege. 00:19:22.66\00:19:23.90 We're here in Battle Creek, Michigan at the very place 00:19:36.22\00:19:40.89 where God inspired His church 00:19:40.92\00:19:44.55 to begin this tremendous mighty movement, 00:19:44.58\00:19:49.03 an advent message all across the world. 00:19:49.06\00:19:52.26 Using Revelation 14 and the Three Angles' Messages 00:19:52.29\00:19:55.67 right here in Battle Creek, 00:19:55.70\00:19:57.14 the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist 00:19:57.17\00:19:59.66 was organized in 1863, that's 150 years ago. 00:19:59.69\00:20:05.18 We're here in Historic Adventist Village 00:20:11.73\00:20:13.72 in Battle Creek, Michigan. 00:20:13.75\00:20:16.08 This is a three-block campus. 00:20:16.11\00:20:18.02 The village is located on the three-block campus. 00:20:18.05\00:20:20.90 And what we have here are historic buildings, 00:20:20.93\00:20:23.78 some original onsite, some better been moved in 00:20:23.81\00:20:27.27 and we also have some replicas 00:20:27.30\00:20:29.49 because we're trying to preserve 00:20:29.52\00:20:30.74 the story of God's leading in the history 00:20:30.77\00:20:33.43 of the Seventh-day Adventists Church. 00:20:33.46\00:20:35.57 It is very important for us to know 00:20:35.60\00:20:37.18 where we came from and why we're here 00:20:37.21\00:20:39.63 and what our mission is. 00:20:39.66\00:20:41.32 If we don't know our roots 00:20:41.35\00:20:43.07 then we really don't know where we're going 00:20:43.10\00:20:44.76 and why we're doing anything now. 00:20:44.79\00:20:46.75 So the attempt here is to retell 00:20:46.78\00:20:49.56 that story of the pioneer men 00:20:49.59\00:20:51.82 and woman who started our church. 00:20:51.85\00:20:54.40 We have been looking back, 00:20:59.25\00:21:00.74 understanding how God has let in the past, 00:21:00.77\00:21:02.85 but I want to tell you the most important thing is 00:21:02.88\00:21:05.62 that we don't forget how God has let us 00:21:05.65\00:21:08.76 because He is going to lead us in the future. 00:21:08.79\00:21:11.34 Each one of us has been called to be 00:21:11.37\00:21:13.98 tremendous valiant workers for God, 00:21:14.01\00:21:17.12 but Jesus is coming soon, don't ever forget 00:21:17.15\00:21:20.09 you are a vital part of the great mission 00:21:20.12\00:21:23.01 that God is entrusted into the hands 00:21:23.04\00:21:24.86 of Seventh-day Adventists. 00:21:24.89\00:21:26.51 Let this 150th anniversary 00:21:26.54\00:21:29.14 of the establishment of the General Conference 00:21:29.17\00:21:31.79 be a strong commitment for you and for me. 00:21:31.82\00:21:36.25 To look forward the Christ soon coming 00:21:36.28\00:21:38.33 and to take as many people along with us by God's grace. 00:21:38.36\00:21:42.01 As we draw to close of this 150th year, 00:21:46.10\00:21:49.46 this anniversary of church organization, 00:21:49.49\00:21:52.23 we must look to the future 00:21:52.26\00:21:54.10 and look to what our mission will be, 00:21:54.13\00:21:56.05 how will we shape it, what will we focus on? 00:21:56.08\00:21:59.49 We remember the pioneers 00:21:59.52\00:22:00.78 and we remember their commitment, their sacrifice. 00:22:00.81\00:22:04.30 And the fact that they didn't see outreach 00:22:04.33\00:22:06.36 is just an event or just a program. 00:22:06.39\00:22:09.30 They saw it as a lifestyle. 00:22:09.33\00:22:11.78 And as we move forward in mission, 00:22:11.81\00:22:13.58 we must see our outreach is not just something 00:22:13.61\00:22:16.06 that we do occasionally, 00:22:16.09\00:22:17.74 but it something that every church member 00:22:17.77\00:22:20.04 can be involved in. 00:22:20.07\00:22:21.45 Not just being involved in church activities, 00:22:21.48\00:22:24.13 but being involved in connecting 00:22:24.16\00:22:25.84 with the community in a holistic way. 00:22:25.87\00:22:28.78 Following the example of Jesus 00:22:28.81\00:22:30.60 who actually rubbed shoulders with people, 00:22:30.63\00:22:32.96 connected with people, touched people, 00:22:32.99\00:22:35.36 but to know people and minister to their needs 00:22:35.39\00:22:37.71 in a holistic way, we are called to do the same. 00:22:37.74\00:22:41.25 And the Seventh-day Adventists Church began 00:22:41.28\00:22:43.10 as a church planting movement focused on 00:22:43.13\00:22:45.99 starting new groups of believers 00:22:46.02\00:22:48.59 and a Seventh-day Adventists Mission progresses, 00:22:48.62\00:22:51.38 it must keep its focus on starting new groups 00:22:51.41\00:22:54.73 in new areas among new people groups 00:22:54.76\00:22:57.30 in new and creative ways. 00:22:57.33\00:22:59.84 This Gospel of the Kingdom 00:22:59.87\00:23:01.05 will be preached in all the world 00:23:01.08\00:23:03.50 and it'll be done so by men and women 00:23:03.53\00:23:06.03 who keep their eyes fixed on Jesus 00:23:06.06\00:23:08.23 and try to follow His example of holistic ministry. 00:23:08.26\00:23:11.60 So much has happened in 150 years. 00:23:23.35\00:23:26.57 Today the Adventists message has circled the globe, 00:23:26.60\00:23:28.87 but it hasn't yet reached everywhere. 00:23:28.90\00:23:32.24 Thank you so much for your support 00:23:32.27\00:23:33.79 of Adventist Mission through your tides, 00:23:33.82\00:23:35.99 your mission offerings
