of the most remote jungles

great need in this region.

The people here are in
need of medical attention.

In Mangino Village, the
Seventh-day Adventist Church

struggle with
such things as malaria,

broken bones, the
flu and pregnancies.

For a majority of these people,

this is the only
access to medical care

that they will ever have.

importance of this service.

great distances on foot

to the Mangino Clinic.

misunderstood by people

in our current history.

Yeah, and from the media. Right.

And so people
are a little afraid,

if they don't know a Muslim,

they may seem to be
a different culture,

they may be in
their own neighborhoods

and people don't
know quite what to do.

So I think the
center is very important

to help Adventist's realize.

Hey, these are people.

These are-- In most
cases, spiritual people.

Now, Lester, I
remember reading a study,

an academic study that
was done a few years ago

in North America
and Europe saying that,

most Muslims say, I
don't even know one Christian.
00:05:27.94\00:05:32.31
Is this your experience, too?

Actually, yes and no.

And the reason I say that is

because
interestingly which I find good

that more Muslims in
America say that they--

I mean, more Mus--

Yeah, more Muslims in America
say they know a Christian

than do Hindus and Buddhists.
00:05:51.08\00:05:53.88
Only about a third of
the Muslims say they don't.

So that's good. Okay.

Now hopefully they
know the right Christians

that are living a faith
and are spiritual people. Yeah.

Now, do you see
within the Christian church

that the strong
prejudice against Muslims?

How do you see?

How do you see the situation?

There's no doubt here.

And it just tears my heart
as I look at some of the news,

blogs on the internet and
then see people's comments.

I wonder where they
get that kind of spirit.

But as I go around the world,
00:06:28.44\00:06:30.19
as I talk with
Adventist, as I am in churches,
00:06:30.22\00:06:34.15
Christians, I
actually find most Christians
00:06:34.18\00:06:40.90
not having as
negative of feeling,
00:06:40.93\00:06:43.29
but there are some. Yeah.
00:06:43.32\00:06:44.96
Because we-- I
mean, we're all subject
00:06:44.99\00:06:46.87
to the influence of
media and currents events.
00:06:46.90\00:06:49.10
It's easy for
stereotypes to prevail.
00:06:49.13\00:06:51.48
And what we don't
know we fear. Yeah.
00:06:51.51\00:06:53.65
Now obviously there
are vast differences
00:06:53.68\00:06:56.84
in the theology of a Seventh-day
Adventist and a Muslim.

They, I mean, we are different.
00:07:00.20\00:07:02.39
Well, that's why
one person is a Muslim
00:07:02.42\00:07:03.88
and one's an Adventist.
00:07:03.91\00:07:05.21
However, there are commonalties
00:07:05.24\00:07:07.98
where we can talk,
right? Oh, very much so.

Tell me about some of those.

Well, I think
probably as Adventist,

we even have an advantage over
many of the other Christians

because-- Well, we
don't eat the unclean foods

which the Muslims surprised
when he first learns that.

And how big an issue
is that for a Muslim?

Oh, it's a very big.

Even a Muslim who may not be
really following his beliefs in

really going to the mosque
five times a day to prayer,

pray and maybe kind of lacks
in a secular western culture,

still pig is not the table.

And so when they see
Christians eating pigs

that raises
question marks in their mind.

Well, they just figured
that's what Christians do. Okay.

And the first
question to an Adventist is,

oh, you are a Christian group.

Why are you not
eating these things?

Oh, that's interesting. Yeah.

What other areas?

Well, the fact that both of us

beliefs that the end
of the world is coming,

that there is a
time of judgment,

that we are on this earth
in a state of away from God

and the time will come
when the judgment will be

and God can save those who are--

That He can save
and those that have

not chosen to follow Him will--

Their life will end.

And so those are
the things very much

that two spiritual people

even if they have differences
of details can definitely share

and enjoy their
friendship together.

Within Islam,
there is an expectation

that Jesus will
come a second time, too.

way that Muslims see that?

And that's why

So the details that you'll
hear from your Muslim friend

were brought together in 1914

he was sent as a missionary
to the country of Nigeria.

And what he did there
is he started a school.

So he was the first
Adventist Missionary.

The first Adventist Missionary

to be
officially sent to Nigeria.

And he started school,
he started teaching people,

teaching them the
Bible, teaching them lessons

that they could
use in daily life.

English might have been one
of the things that he taught.

but he started up

What they needed then was funds

held an all night prayer

They cared about Popo
