I am walking down Lechaion Road in Greece, 00:00:01.06\00:00:03.36 this is the ancient city of Corinth 00:00:03.39\00:00:05.69 where Paul came to preach about 2,000 years ago. 00:00:05.72\00:00:08.11 There's a lot of history to this place, 00:00:08.14\00:00:09.92 so you want to stay tuned 00:00:09.95\00:00:11.69 because Global Mission Snapshots starts right now. 00:00:11.72\00:00:14.28 Just before He went up to heaven, 00:00:26.33\00:00:28.69 Jesus gave us a command. 00:00:28.72\00:00:31.64 He gave us a mission. Jesus said, go. 00:00:31.67\00:00:36.88 Go unto all the world, telling them of His love. 00:00:36.91\00:00:41.77 This is our mission. This is our Global Mission. 00:00:41.80\00:00:46.32 Hello, I am Gary Krause 00:00:51.73\00:00:53.24 and welcome to Global Mission Snapshots. 00:00:53.27\00:00:55.88 As we just saw Earley Simon recently visited 00:00:55.91\00:00:58.43 the ancient city of Corinth 00:00:58.46\00:01:00.61 where one of God's great missionaries 00:01:00.64\00:01:02.42 the Apostle Paul lived and worked 00:01:02.45\00:01:05.18 while on one of his missionary journeys. 00:01:05.21\00:01:07.45 Today we'll be talking with Earley about Corinth 00:01:07.48\00:01:10.29 and how those ancient streets relate to mission today. 00:01:10.32\00:01:14.27 We'll also be talking with Marshall and Rosemary, 00:01:14.30\00:01:16.72 a young couple serving in a very challenging area 00:01:16.75\00:01:19.89 of the 10/40 Window. 00:01:19.92\00:01:21.89 We'll learn how Adventists are touching lives in that area. 00:01:21.92\00:01:25.72 But first up, let's watch a video story 00:01:25.75\00:01:28.35 shot by Todd Gasley called My Greatest Find. 00:01:28.38\00:01:32.44 When I am on vacation, lots of times 00:01:37.71\00:01:39.48 come out here to Montana and always told myself 00:01:39.51\00:01:42.92 I am gonna live out here some day. 00:01:42.95\00:01:44.71 And in 86, I decided I'm gonna work my way around the country 00:01:45.68\00:01:49.72 and this is where I ended up. 00:01:49.75\00:01:51.72 A husband, in 1993 a husband and a daddy found me 00:01:51.75\00:01:55.62 and that was as far as I went with Lewistown, Montana 00:01:55.65\00:01:58.32 and today I am in Whitehall to picking up garbage. 00:01:58.35\00:02:01.17 Other people's trash is other people's treasure. 00:02:01.20\00:02:03.89 You know. There's never a boring moment. 00:02:03.92\00:02:07.85 One time I picked a bag out of a barrel 00:02:07.88\00:02:11.20 what sort of we used to have the 55 gallon drums, 00:02:11.23\00:02:14.80 there was a black bag, it was heavy 00:02:14.83\00:02:16.19 and I thought it was kitty litter, 00:02:16.22\00:02:18.56 I didn't think too much of it, 00:02:18.59\00:02:19.87 and I flung it in the back of the hopper 00:02:19.90\00:02:21.66 and it broke and pennies went all over. 00:02:21.69\00:02:25.59 And I shovel pennies into a box, 00:02:25.62\00:02:28.46 put them in the truck and took them home 00:02:28.49\00:02:29.83 and I washed them all off. 00:02:29.86\00:02:31.20 And I think my wife took them to the bank 00:02:31.23\00:02:33.97 where the counter, she had some like $134 in pennies. 00:02:34.00\00:02:37.33 There were three gallons of pennies. 00:02:37.36\00:02:40.21 Well, and that happens quite frequently 00:02:40.24\00:02:42.75 were you find stuff like that. 00:02:42.78\00:02:44.89 I've known Zeke for some years now. 00:02:44.92\00:02:47.24 We both worked in radiator shops 00:02:47.27\00:02:50.64 and even asked me to check out, I am way with him at one time. 00:02:50.67\00:02:55.57 I failed to talk to him about Jesus. 00:02:55.60\00:03:00.30 And now I often wondered you know, 00:03:00.33\00:03:03.09 why he never knocked on my door five, six, eight, ten years ago. 00:03:03.12\00:03:10.09 Yeah, I even actually one day roll over to Zeke's place 00:03:10.12\00:03:16.48 and chickened out, 00:03:16.51\00:03:21.46 turn around, went home. 00:03:21.49\00:03:26.47 My biggest find, I believed the most valuable thing 00:03:26.50\00:03:29.94 to me that I have ever found 00:03:29.97\00:03:31.96 was the "Conflict of the Ages" series by Ellen white. 00:03:31.99\00:03:35.00 Because we grew up with my dad had one years and years ago 00:03:38.83\00:03:42.86 but it was probably 10, 12, years old a German one 00:03:42.89\00:03:46.47 but it was only the first book, the Patriarchs and Prophets one. 00:03:46.50\00:03:49.76 And I remember with kid-- as we were kids growing up 00:03:49.79\00:03:52.39 my brother Paul and I, my sister Margaret 00:03:52.42\00:03:55.26 and we would read those that book and grew up. 00:03:55.29\00:03:58.61 So I was kind of familiar with it. 00:03:58.64\00:04:00.84 I was born and raised on Hutterite colony 00:04:00.87\00:04:03.34 in northeast corner of South Dakota 00:04:03.37\00:04:06.68 and I had a very strong religious 00:04:06.71\00:04:09.21 upbringing that kind of stuff. 00:04:09.24\00:04:10.74 I did a lot of work on the colony. 00:04:10.77\00:04:12.77 They taught communal living and communal lifestyle that-- 00:04:12.80\00:04:15.98 we have all things in common kind of 00:04:16.01\00:04:17.85 out of the second chapter of the Book of Acts. 00:04:17.88\00:04:20.10 They have all things in common, you know, 00:04:20.13\00:04:22.43 they're goods and everything. 00:04:22.46\00:04:24.78 They're sold and they shared with everybody 00:04:24.81\00:04:26.83 so nobody had want or need. 00:04:26.86\00:04:29.86 When I was 17 years of age, I run away from home 00:04:29.89\00:04:33.63 and I got into all kinds of trouble. 00:04:33.66\00:04:37.20 I drink a bottle of whiskey a day 00:04:37.23\00:04:39.05 and there was a time in my life, I had reached a time 00:04:39.08\00:04:42.60 when I was miserable drinking and I was miserable being sober 00:04:42.63\00:04:46.86 and there was no not much use left to live, why live? 00:04:46.89\00:04:51.43 For a long time, the Lord has put on my heart to go 00:04:51.46\00:04:55.27 and see him and I chickened out. 00:04:55.30\00:04:58.06 Dad always talked about that there was a series of them 00:05:00.65\00:05:03.57 and he never had the others, you know. 00:05:03.60\00:05:07.14 So that to me was a valuable find. 00:05:07.17\00:05:08.95 That was priceless to me. Thank you, Lord. 00:05:08.98\00:05:12.43 Yes. That was worth it. 00:05:12.46\00:05:15.46 You know, that tremendous wisdom and knowledge of the scripture, 00:05:15.49\00:05:19.34 I should say the Father's word 00:05:19.37\00:05:21.12 because He's is our Father, you know, we are His children. 00:05:21.72\00:05:24.58 The Father's word and the interpretation thereof, 00:05:24.61\00:05:27.49 that wisdom in un-- it's priceless. 00:05:27.52\00:05:31.50 I still got them at home. I read them daily. 00:05:31.53\00:05:34.84 I was teaching at Sunday school one time at a church 00:05:34.87\00:05:37.03 where I went to and we went through the Book of Ezekiel 00:05:37.06\00:05:40.50 and I came to Ezekiel 20, okay. 00:05:40.53\00:05:43.74 And where God says, the Sabbath day is a sign 00:05:43.77\00:05:47.31 between you and Me, that you may know who I am. 00:05:47.34\00:05:51.18 Okay. God's speaking. 00:05:51.21\00:05:52.83 And I brought this up in the church and I never knew 00:05:52.86\00:05:56.98 leaders in a church could be--could get so upset 00:05:57.01\00:06:00.13 because I dare bring up the Sabbath day, you know. 00:06:00.16\00:06:03.53 I like that, Ezekiel 20:20, Ezekiel 20:20 vision, you know. 00:06:03.56\00:06:07.30 Some day I am going to get a license plate 00:06:07.33\00:06:09.01 and its going to fit just perfect. 00:06:09.04\00:06:11.75 Well, that's what I planed, you know, 00:06:11.78\00:06:12.98 That has been my walk. 00:06:13.01\00:06:14.64 I've gone to a lot of different churches over the years 00:06:14.67\00:06:18.13 and I would always hear this, 00:06:18.16\00:06:20.44 where the law was done away with at the cross, 00:06:20.47\00:06:22.37 the Ten commands do not apply 00:06:22.40\00:06:23.99 and then I'm like, why are they in there then? 00:06:24.02\00:06:26.35 One preacher even told me one time, 00:06:26.38\00:06:28.57 you may not even be welcomed here, 00:06:28.60\00:06:31.58 you know, because of some of the questions that I asked 00:06:31.61\00:06:36.96 pertaining to the Sabbath day, for number one. 00:06:36.99\00:06:40.58 I have always thought about 00:06:40.61\00:06:43.06 going to the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:06:43.09\00:06:45.69 and a minister told me one time, 00:06:45.72\00:06:47.77 the last pastor that I had, "If you really want to get 00:06:47.80\00:06:50.37 into legalism, that's what you'll get into." 00:06:50.40\00:06:53.97 And I got to thinking you know, how can that be possible? 00:06:54.00\00:06:57.36 When they teach the Father's word you know, 00:06:57.39\00:07:00.52 "Thy word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path." 00:07:00.55\00:07:04.03 The Father's word and God spake all these words saying 00:07:04.06\00:07:08.71 and you considering Sunday School 00:07:08.74\00:07:10.12 and talk about we ought to be obedient and not to sacrifice. 00:07:10.15\00:07:14.82 It's better to obey than to sacrifice. 00:07:14.85\00:07:17.89 Obey what? 00:07:17.92\00:07:19.54 The Father's word and God spake all these words saying, 00:07:19.57\00:07:22.54 "I am the Lord thy God who brought you 00:07:22.57\00:07:25.49 out in the land of Egypt." 00:07:25.52\00:07:26.96 I know that Ten Command by heart. 00:07:26.99\00:07:29.84 Yeah, I learned them. 00:07:29.87\00:07:31.88 And, so, why don't they apply? That's been my question. 00:07:31.91\00:07:39.24 There was another week before I went back. 00:07:42.70\00:07:44.68 Hey, hey, Karl. Hey, Zeke. 00:07:53.17\00:07:55.27 Nice to seeing you. All right. 00:07:55.30\00:07:57.89 How you've been? Come on in. 00:07:57.92\00:07:59.17 All right. Yeah. 00:07:59.20\00:08:00.76 Don't want to stand outside. 00:08:00.79\00:08:02.52 All right. Anyhow what's up? 00:08:02.55\00:08:03.82 Oh, I just coming By, you know, 00:08:03.85\00:08:05.73 it's like we've been talking and stuff about doing some study 00:08:05.76\00:08:11.82 and stuff together and everything 00:08:11.85\00:08:13.76 and I was just kind of coming over to see 00:08:13.79\00:08:15.77 how we got this seminar going on. 00:08:15.80\00:08:19.93 And I just like to invite you to it. 00:08:19.96\00:08:23.13 Oh, like that prophesy seminar thing I read about, the big-- 00:08:23.16\00:08:25.70 Yeah, the pro-- Yeah, that's the same one. 00:08:25.73\00:08:27.84 Hey, what took you so long? 00:08:27.87\00:08:30.00 You know, I am here for eight years or better, you know. 00:08:30.03\00:08:34.27 Yeah, I'd love to. All right. 00:08:34.30\00:08:37.27 And then we sat for around about for a couple of hours 00:08:37.30\00:08:40.05 and we talked about different things 00:08:40.08\00:08:42.89 from the scripture 00:08:42.92\00:08:47.61 about the law and the commands. 00:08:47.64\00:08:51.66 I just had a fantastic visit that whole evening with him. 00:08:51.69\00:08:58.30 I'm a janitor for Fergus Electric 00:08:58.33\00:09:00.90 and Courtesy Chevrolet in Lewistown Montana. 00:09:00.93\00:09:04.41 I became Christian 14 years ago 00:09:04.44\00:09:07.39 and I don't want anybody anymore to come to me 00:09:07.42\00:09:11.05 and say what was it that took you so long 00:09:11.08\00:09:15.26 to come and visit me. 00:09:15.29\00:09:17.69 You don't want that happening to you either. 00:09:17.72\00:09:20.83 So I just implore you today, when the Lord speaks to you 00:09:20.86\00:09:26.79 just get out there and do what He asked, 00:09:26.82\00:09:30.50 what He tells you to do. 00:09:30.53\00:09:31.60 When He tells you to invite someone 00:09:31.63\00:09:33.95 to some of these meetings, get out there and do it, 00:09:33.98\00:09:36.96 don't be a chicken like I was, don't be afraid. 00:09:36.99\00:09:40.61 There's nothing to be afraid of, 00:09:40.64\00:09:42.41 the Lord is there and He's gonna go before us. 00:09:42.44\00:09:44.70 I'm sure glad Karl finally decided to do that 00:09:44.73\00:09:47.60 and did that and I was so excited to be coming 00:09:47.63\00:09:51.13 to their prophesy seminars that they were having. 00:09:51.16\00:09:53.76 And what I realized, didn't realize this 00:09:53.79\00:09:55.79 and I found out from that is Jesus is coming back soon. 00:09:55.82\00:09:59.07 This past Sabbath day when I got baptized 00:10:00.72\00:10:03.58 it was... 00:10:03.61\00:10:06.95 it was very, it was a very relaxing time. 00:10:06.98\00:10:10.34 I was nervous, I will say that 00:10:10.37\00:10:14.28 because had all those people watching 00:10:14.31\00:10:16.85 and I get stage fright really easy. 00:10:16.88\00:10:21.16 And after baptism it was like this garbage can 00:10:21.19\00:10:25.68 that's I just dumped, it's empty, it was light. 00:10:25.71\00:10:29.52 Moving it back, compare to the way it was pushing it in. 00:10:29.55\00:10:32.29 And once I came out of that water I was refresh, 00:10:32.32\00:10:34.74 I was--I felt empty, I felt renewed, 00:10:34.77\00:10:37.53 a new creation in Christ Jesus. 00:10:37.56\00:10:40.35 What a tremendous feeling. 00:10:40.38\00:10:43.12 And the biggest thing I like about the whole thing, 00:10:43.15\00:10:46.79 there's my wife and children were there to see that. 00:10:46.82\00:10:50.83 That in itself was just a tremendous peace. 00:10:50.86\00:10:55.79 Who is the Lord putting on your heart right now? 00:11:22.13\00:11:26.22 We are doing several things. 00:11:26.25\00:11:28.48 We try to provide literature that meets relevant needs 00:11:28.51\00:11:33.29 because there's many different needs in the Middle East. 00:11:33.32\00:11:36.41 And it's exciting to be able to meet with the people, 00:11:36.44\00:11:39.29 find out what those needs are 00:11:39.32\00:11:40.83 and then be able to supply them with materials 00:11:40.86\00:11:44.27 that can help them to grow personally, 00:11:44.30\00:11:46.34 it helps them to grow spiritually 00:11:46.37\00:11:48.20 and then at the same time to work with the young people. 00:11:48.23\00:11:51.19 You realize in the Middle East, 00:11:51.22\00:11:52.36 there's lots of young people and they are very active, 00:11:52.39\00:11:56.06 they are always wanting to learn. 00:11:56.09\00:11:58.31 And we are learning from them 00:11:58.34\00:12:00.03 as much as they are learning from us. 00:12:00.06\00:12:01.58 And so it's exciting to put those two things together. 00:12:01.61\00:12:04.26 Fantastic. 00:12:04.29\00:12:06.57 Now the Seventh-day Adventist church is focusing 00:12:06.60\00:12:09.06 very much on what can we do in the large cities 00:12:09.09\00:12:12.56 and I know in the Middle East you have huge cities. 00:12:12.59\00:12:16.28 I was very interested to hear about a center 00:12:16.31\00:12:18.84 that you've been working with, a center of influence. 00:12:18.87\00:12:22.81 I think you call it For Your Life Center 00:12:22.84\00:12:25.25 or something like that. 00:12:25.28\00:12:26.31 Yeah, it's all about health and it's about health awareness. 00:12:26.34\00:12:31.24 But the center is also there to help people with English, 00:12:31.27\00:12:33.49 if they want to learn English. 00:12:33.52\00:12:35.03 The center is there to help them overcome smoking. 00:12:35.06\00:12:37.76 You know, where we live in the Middle East 00:12:37.79\00:12:40.97 they passed a new law that you can't smoke in the buildings. 00:12:41.00\00:12:43.63 Oh, good. 00:12:43.66\00:12:44.70 But a lot of the population still smokes. 00:12:44.73\00:12:47.58 And, but as we are meeting people at the center 00:12:47.61\00:12:49.66 they wanted to stop, they wanted to quit. 00:12:49.69\00:12:52.11 And so we offer you know, stop smoking. 00:12:52.14\00:12:55.80 We do general health screening. 00:12:55.83\00:12:57.92 So there are just different things that we exist there 00:12:57.95\00:13:01.02 for to just help the community with their needs. 00:13:01.05\00:13:04.13 The mayor of the community was-- 00:13:04.16\00:13:05.85 he came actually for the opening of it 00:13:05.88\00:13:07.81 and they were excited about the potential 00:13:07.84\00:13:09.80 of us just helping our neighbors. 00:13:09.83\00:13:12.81 And it was exciting to see the response of our neighbors 00:13:12.84\00:13:16.10 as we had the opportunity to open this center. 00:13:16.13\00:13:20.27 Excellent. Now, tell me about some of the responses, I mean-- 00:13:20.30\00:13:23.51 We had responses, matter of fact 00:13:23.54\00:13:25.59 we had some of the young people that came in 00:13:25.62\00:13:28.40 that weren't from Middle East University. 00:13:28.43\00:13:30.74 They came through with their parent, 00:13:30.77\00:13:32.75 one of them was a senior in high school 00:13:32.78\00:13:34.81 and she saw what was happening and she said, "Can I translate?" 00:13:34.84\00:13:39.05 And so here we now have this relationship 00:13:39.08\00:13:41.50 with an 18 year old, who is a senior in high school 00:13:41.53\00:13:44.20 and she's-- we keep contact with her. 00:13:44.23\00:13:46.66 And she actually helped us translate for three days. 00:13:46.69\00:13:48.88 And so we have young people that were making contact with. 00:13:48.91\00:13:52.76 We also had other people, 00:13:52.79\00:13:54.39 there's a lady that came in to the center 00:13:54.42\00:13:56.65 that didn't realize she had diabetes. 00:13:56.68\00:13:58.90 And when she found she actually had diabetes, 00:13:58.93\00:14:01.11 there was a lot of stress she was carrying. 00:14:01.14\00:14:03.23 And she just let it all out. 00:14:03.26\00:14:04.89 And she spends literally an hour or more there just in tears 00:14:04.92\00:14:08.90 and some of our young people were next to her 00:14:08.93\00:14:11.66 and they were helping her. 00:14:11.69\00:14:13.36 And now they visit her every weekend. 00:14:13.39\00:14:15.48 They go to her home to just encourage her 00:14:15.51\00:14:17.63 and see if she needs anything 00:14:17.66\00:14:19.52 and they just want to provide 00:14:19.55\00:14:21.94 those needs that she hasn't. 00:14:21.97\00:14:23.25 So they are developing that relationship 00:14:23.28\00:14:24.97 and so we met that. 00:14:25.00\00:14:27.30 So we've had-- 00:14:27.33\00:14:28.36 Matter of fact construction workers, 00:14:28.39\00:14:30.47 they were on the job and they were like, 00:14:30.50\00:14:32.21 they came over and they went through 00:14:32.24\00:14:33.39 the health screening and in the process they said, 00:14:33.42\00:14:36.67 "Hey, here's my friend, take care of him. 00:14:36.70\00:14:38.33 I got to go back to work." 00:14:38.36\00:14:39.93 So it just, I mean, taxi drivers 00:14:39.96\00:14:43.46 that were saying you know, 00:14:43.49\00:14:44.75 I'll take you in your taxi 00:14:44.78\00:14:45.98 but you need to come into the center first. 00:14:46.01\00:14:48.00 So it's just a lot of different experiences 00:14:48.03\00:14:50.67 we had down at the center. 00:14:50.70\00:14:51.73 So, Rosemary, it's all about 00:14:51.76\00:14:53.20 making connections with people. 00:14:53.23\00:14:54.61 That's right. 00:14:54.64\00:14:55.67 And it's really exciting to see 00:14:55.70\00:14:57.94 how those connections are made. 00:14:57.97\00:14:59.84 We are able to because of that center help 00:14:59.87\00:15:02.16 in a special way displace people 00:15:02.19\00:15:05.06 that are in the country 00:15:05.09\00:15:06.61 because of war in their region. 00:15:06.64\00:15:08.88 They've come into our country 00:15:08.91\00:15:10.09 and so we're able to provide a special opportunity 00:15:10.12\00:15:13.34 to provide screening for them 00:15:13.37\00:15:14.87 and help in some of their other needs. 00:15:14.90\00:15:17.45 There's a lady that was-- 00:15:17.48\00:15:20.19 That needed to have a surgery 00:15:20.22\00:15:21.37 so that she could keep her baby 00:15:21.40\00:15:23.04 and so because of this center 00:15:23.07\00:15:25.40 we're able to connect with her 00:15:25.43\00:15:26.96 and help her provide the medical care 00:15:26.99\00:15:28.36 that she needed, not at our center, 00:15:28.39\00:15:30.29 but to help her to get the care she needed. 00:15:30.32\00:15:33.99 Now these refugees coming in 00:15:34.02\00:15:35.21 from a war torn countries, 00:15:35.24\00:15:36.74 are we talking like tens of people, 00:15:36.77\00:15:38.77 hundreds of people, thousands-- 00:15:38.80\00:15:40.27 How many people? 00:15:40.30\00:15:41.48 Hundreds of thousands. Wow. 00:15:41.51\00:15:43.40 So that really makes things 00:15:43.43\00:15:45.56 very interesting looking at it. 00:15:45.59\00:15:47.64 It does and you see the needs are real 00:15:47.67\00:15:50.05 and the needs are deep. 00:15:50.08\00:15:51.59 It's not just, you know, 00:15:51.62\00:15:53.47 can you give me $5 or whatever 00:15:53.50\00:15:55.06 because I need some food. 00:15:55.09\00:15:56.33 It's in multiple areas of their life. 00:15:56.36\00:15:59.07 And to be able to be there 00:15:59.10\00:16:01.11 and help them with that, 00:16:01.14\00:16:02.25 that's really what it's all about. 00:16:02.28\00:16:03.71 You know, connecting with them 00:16:03.74\00:16:05.96 and making those relationships eventually. 00:16:05.99\00:16:08.58 Now, Rosemary, you have a three-year-old, 00:16:08.61\00:16:11.10 a six-year-old and a nine-year-old, 00:16:11.13\00:16:13.39 I know you are vitally involved in this ministry. 00:16:13.42\00:16:15.29 How do you juggle every thing? 00:16:15.32\00:16:16.69 That's a very good question. 00:16:18.17\00:16:21.14 You know, my first focus is our home and our children 00:16:21.17\00:16:24.19 and so then after that then I have opportunities. 00:16:24.22\00:16:27.57 You know, some days I am like, 00:16:27.60\00:16:29.80 I look at the week I am like, 00:16:29.83\00:16:30.91 I didn't really do anything 00:16:30.94\00:16:31.99 other than just take of my kids and my house 00:16:32.02\00:16:33.87 but then other weeks like, every thing like 00:16:33.90\00:16:36.57 pours in and I am like, wow, 00:16:36.60\00:16:39.37 I did this and this and this and this, 00:16:39.40\00:16:41.12 all in this one week. 00:16:41.15\00:16:42.52 So it kind of comes and goes 00:16:42.55\00:16:44.16 which makes it easier, you know, 00:16:44.19\00:16:46.62 better for our family. 00:16:46.65\00:16:48.48 Yeah. Now there maybe a young person 00:16:48.51\00:16:50.29 watching this program and if they are thinking about 00:16:50.32\00:16:54.33 maybe going for overseas mission service 00:16:54.36\00:16:56.76 what would you say to them? 00:16:56.79\00:16:58.48 I would say definitely take advantage of the opportunity 00:16:58.51\00:17:01.62 while you are younger and really look at it 00:17:01.65\00:17:06.13 as a long term commitment eventually. 00:17:06.16\00:17:09.24 You know, the short-term is wonderful, 00:17:09.27\00:17:11.33 but you want to-- 00:17:11.36\00:17:13.16 You see, if it fits you and really pray about it 00:17:13.19\00:17:15.67 because the need is just tremendous. 00:17:15.70\00:17:18.54 And we need young people to be involved in these 00:17:18.57\00:17:22.23 service opportunities around the world. 00:17:22.26\00:17:24.31 Rosemary and Marshall, 00:17:24.34\00:17:26.13 thank you so much for joining us. 00:17:26.16\00:17:27.85 And viewers at home, 00:17:27.88\00:17:29.56 please pray for Marshall and Rosemary, 00:17:29.59\00:17:32.27 their children 00:17:32.30\00:17:33.41 and the hundreds of mission workers 00:17:33.44\00:17:35.75 all around the world. 00:17:35.78\00:17:37.43 It can be lonely, it can be discouraging, 00:17:37.46\00:17:39.97 but it can also be tremendously exciting 00:17:40.00\00:17:42.08 and it's wonderful for them to know 00:17:42.11\00:17:44.00 that a world church is praying for them. 00:17:44.03\00:17:46.22 It's my pleasure to introduce 00:18:31.44\00:18:33.47 our guest Earley Simon. 00:18:33.50\00:18:35.29 Earley, thank you for joining us. 00:18:35.32\00:18:36.73 My pleasure. Now you are 00:18:36.76\00:18:37.80 one of the video producers at Adventist Mission. 00:18:37.83\00:18:40.24 Responsible for many of the beautiful videos 00:18:40.27\00:18:42.87 that we see on this program. 00:18:42.90\00:18:44.14 Thank you for that. Now, Earley, 00:18:44.17\00:18:46.04 I am kind of jealous because not so long ago 00:18:46.07\00:18:48.41 you went to the city of Corinth. 00:18:48.44\00:18:50.37 Tell us about Corinth. 00:18:50.40\00:18:52.48 You know, it was an amazing experience 00:18:52.51\00:18:54.34 just to be there because you read those 00:18:54.37\00:18:56.14 stories in the Bible and sometimes you can't really 00:18:56.17\00:18:58.80 place where this is unless you like geography, 00:18:58.83\00:19:01.19 go look in the map which is not the case for me. 00:19:01.22\00:19:03.43 All right, so being there is-- it was really amazing, 00:19:03.46\00:19:06.82 the Bible is like coming to life. 00:19:06.85\00:19:08.46 And I actually went back and read the chapter 00:19:08.49\00:19:10.41 where Paul visited Corinth. 00:19:10.44\00:19:11.85 And now I know because I was there, 00:19:11.88\00:19:13.98 I actually got to walk down 00:19:14.01\00:19:15.14 some of the ancient streets from 2,000 years ago there. 00:19:15.17\00:19:19.02 So it's pretty amazing experience. 00:19:19.05\00:19:20.95 It's a beautiful place, 00:19:20.98\00:19:23.13 it's located in the middle of two ports. 00:19:23.16\00:19:25.22 So there's a port where it connects to Italy and Europe 00:19:25.25\00:19:29.02 on one side and there's a port from Asia. 00:19:29.05\00:19:31.08 So it's a pretty central hub for a lot of the trading 00:19:31.11\00:19:33.54 there that would happen there. 00:19:33.57\00:19:34.69 They still happens there but that 00:19:34.72\00:19:35.76 happened in ancient days as well. 00:19:35.79\00:19:37.40 So Paul came to that city, 00:19:37.43\00:19:40.41 a huge city, a metropolis. 00:19:40.44\00:19:42.42 They said there were estimated 00:19:42.45\00:19:44.50 700,000 to 800,000 people that lived there. 00:19:44.53\00:19:46.81 And so Paul is going there to do mission 00:19:46.84\00:19:50.31 to the cities, you know. 00:19:50.34\00:19:51.37 He's not going to talk to small groups 00:19:51.40\00:19:53.18 he's going to talk to the masses. 00:19:53.21\00:19:54.67 And the Bible tells us when he reaches that city 00:19:54.70\00:19:58.44 he looks for people that he can connect with. 00:19:58.47\00:20:00.35 And I don't know who were the first people he found there 00:20:00.38\00:20:03.26 but he met Aquila and Priscilla and that he stayed with them. 00:20:03.29\00:20:08.35 And one of the connecting factors that maybe linked 00:20:08.38\00:20:12.17 Paul and Aquila and Priscilla so well is that 00:20:12.20\00:20:14.74 they were tent makers. Paul is also a tent maker. 00:20:14.77\00:20:17.38 And a tent maker means that they made tents 00:20:17.41\00:20:19.86 so they might have shared a lot of you know, 00:20:19.89\00:20:21.61 secrets of the trade and special ways of making 00:20:21.64\00:20:24.15 different types of tents. 00:20:24.18\00:20:26.74 But that wasn't what Paul went there for, 00:20:26.77\00:20:28.73 to learn new techniques, he went there to evangelize. 00:20:28.76\00:20:31.24 And this was just his way of supporting 00:20:31.27\00:20:33.02 his ministry as he was there. 00:20:33.05\00:20:35.01 And just to be able to see those surroundings 00:20:35.04\00:20:39.28 and where he preached was pretty exciting. 00:20:39.31\00:20:41.15 On the beginning of the program you saw 00:20:41.18\00:20:43.58 Lechaion Road from the ancient city. 00:20:43.61\00:20:46.05 And that's a pretty well preserved area. 00:20:46.08\00:20:47.72 When we were there, they were actually 00:20:47.75\00:20:49.43 renovating this center square which is a high platform 00:20:49.46\00:20:54.34 where people preached there. 00:20:54.37\00:20:56.34 And that's the place that is believed 00:20:56.37\00:20:58.15 that's where Paul preached to the people. 00:20:58.18\00:21:01.03 And from the surroundings that's so there of the remains 00:21:01.06\00:21:03.43 you can still tell that this like was downtown, 00:21:03.46\00:21:05.66 you know, center of the town. 00:21:05.69\00:21:07.05 And Paul probably came there 00:21:07.08\00:21:08.11 many times and preached to the people. 00:21:08.14\00:21:10.07 As you walked down those roads you see shops, 00:21:10.10\00:21:12.54 you see places where people 00:21:12.57\00:21:14.13 took baths because there is a mountain nearby 00:21:14.16\00:21:15.84 that the water would come down and 00:21:15.87\00:21:17.45 people took baths there in the middle of downtown 00:21:17.48\00:21:20.10 which is pretty different concept for us nowadays. 00:21:20.13\00:21:23.15 But there also prisons that's something 00:21:23.18\00:21:25.58 that caught my attention. 00:21:25.61\00:21:26.64 There were several prisons there and I guess at that time 00:21:26.67\00:21:29.50 it was the point to bring people there 00:21:29.53\00:21:31.05 for being judged if they were going 00:21:31.08\00:21:33.95 really go to jail, if they really had committed 00:21:33.98\00:21:36.24 the crime or if they are gonna be freed. 00:21:36.27\00:21:38.42 And they brought those people there 00:21:38.45\00:21:40.02 so at the center of town they would be recognized 00:21:40.05\00:21:42.74 and they would-- people would see 00:21:42.77\00:21:44.73 the crime that they did. 00:21:44.76\00:21:46.10 It was suppose to bring shame to them. 00:21:46.13\00:21:47.40 So there's a lot of stuff happening 00:21:47.43\00:21:49.40 at that one place that we got to visit there. 00:21:49.43\00:21:51.82 And that's the location where Paul preached. 00:21:51.85\00:21:53.99 You know Earley, you remind us of something 00:21:54.02\00:21:57.59 very important that Paul 00:21:57.62\00:21:59.54 was planting churches in urban areas. 00:21:59.57\00:22:02.35 And when you read through the Book of Acts 00:22:02.38\00:22:04.12 it's basically the story of urban mission 00:22:04.15\00:22:07.42 and the Christian churches were established in the cities 00:22:07.45\00:22:11.30 because these are the places where the people were 00:22:11.33\00:22:13.22 and there were also the places of influence 00:22:13.25\00:22:15.24 from where the gospel would go. 00:22:15.27\00:22:16.88 And in fact the word pagan meant from the country. 00:22:16.91\00:22:20.56 That's kind of interesting. 00:22:20.59\00:22:22.63 I remember visiting Ephesus 00:22:22.66\00:22:25.51 and again Paul ministered there as well. 00:22:25.54\00:22:28.08 And it just struck me, how closely people 00:22:28.11\00:22:29.94 were living together and these churches 00:22:29.97\00:22:32.31 were meeting in people's homes in the heart of the city. 00:22:32.34\00:22:35.15 They didn't have a church building like we do. 00:22:35.18\00:22:38.05 Now, Earley, when you left that place 00:22:38.08\00:22:41.95 what sort of feelings did you have? 00:22:41.98\00:22:44.22 I felt part of the story. 00:22:44.25\00:22:49.53 I felt like it really happed and it helped me 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.71 to focus on some of the things that Paul did 00:22:52.74\00:22:55.11 in reaching the cities, you know. 00:22:55.14\00:22:56.32 Sometimes we think that we just 00:22:56.35\00:22:59.26 connect with people on Facebook or Twitter 00:22:59.29\00:23:01.39 or we tell them to go watch a TV program 00:23:01.42\00:23:03.59 like this one which is a way for people 00:23:03.62\00:23:06.04 to get connected with Jesus and to know Jesus 00:23:06.07\00:23:08.85 and for us to make connections with people. 00:23:08.88\00:23:10.70 But I think Paul's example is very unique in a sense 00:23:10.73\00:23:13.40 that he went there, he was there. 00:23:13.43\00:23:16.07 He went where people were, 00:23:16.10\00:23:17.87 he preached from there, he wasn't afraid, 00:23:17.90\00:23:19.44 he made special connection with individuals and it worked. 00:23:19.47\00:23:24.37 The Bible tells that there's a lot of a baptism 00:23:24.40\00:23:26.62 that he reaped from there. 00:23:26.65\00:23:28.27 He followed Jesus' example of mingling among people. 00:23:28.30\00:23:31.64 Yeah. Earley, you mentioned 00:23:31.67\00:23:33.79 tent making and I am glad you mentioned 00:23:33.82\00:23:35.88 that because today, viewers at home, 00:23:35.91\00:23:37.98 we need more tent makers. 00:23:38.01\00:23:39.59 This is a term we use for people who support their ministry 00:23:39.62\00:23:43.52 through their own trade, 00:23:43.55\00:23:45.00 their own business, their own profession. 00:23:45.03\00:23:47.28 Many parts of the world, we cannot send missionaries, 00:23:47.31\00:23:50.12 we cannot do traditional evangelism 00:23:50.15\00:23:52.74 but we need tent makers. 00:23:52.77\00:23:55.10 And Earley, I want to talk to you 00:23:55.13\00:23:56.88 a little bit too about this magazine, 00:23:56.91\00:23:58.52 Mission 360, full of stories. 00:23:58.55\00:24:01.09 Brand new magazine, 00:24:01.12\00:24:03.05 you can find it online at Mission360mag.org 00:24:03.08\00:24:07.27 and there you can download it on to your iPad, 00:24:07.30\00:24:11.03 down to your iPhone, to your Kindle whatever. 00:24:11.06\00:24:14.51 But this is full of stories 00:24:14.54\00:24:15.98 and there will be tent maker stories here as well. 00:24:16.01\00:24:19.28 Earley, thank you so much for sharing 00:24:19.31\00:24:21.16 with us about the Apostle Paul. 00:24:21.19\00:24:22.68 The Apostle Paul is like Jesus, 00:24:22.71\00:24:25.32 he's our example of coming among the people, 00:24:25.35\00:24:28.31 ministering to them, mingling, showing sympathy, 00:24:28.34\00:24:30.94 winning confidence and leading people to Jesus. 00:24:30.97\00:24:34.87 I hope your hearts were touched by that music video 00:27:06.53\00:27:08.89 all the way from Krasnodar, Russia. 00:27:08.92\00:27:11.15 Let's pray that God will melt our hearts 00:27:11.18\00:27:13.94 and make us even more receptive 00:27:13.97\00:27:16.03 to His words in our lives. 00:27:16.06\00:27:18.16 There are so many people 00:27:18.19\00:27:19.42 whose hearts are longing to learn of God's love. 00:27:19.45\00:27:22.32 Here at Adventist Mission we've created 00:27:22.35\00:27:24.69 mission cards for kids featuring pictures of children 00:27:24.72\00:27:28.41 from all around the world. 00:27:28.44\00:27:30.31 They were especially designed for Sabbath school teachers 00:27:30.34\00:27:32.70 to give to each child to take home. 00:27:32.73\00:27:36.09 Perhaps you might like to order some but you'd like to also see 00:27:36.12\00:27:38.78 a sample set of cards first. 00:27:38.81\00:27:40.90 No problem, just call us or visit our website 00:27:40.93\00:27:43.57 and asks for mission cards for kids or ask for 00:27:43.60\00:27:46.81 offer number 302. 00:27:46.84\00:27:49.17 Please remember to clearly state your name, 00:27:49.20\00:27:51.24 mailing address and be sure to mention 00:27:51.27\00:27:53.87 mission cards for kids or offer 302. 00:27:53.90\00:27:58.43 Well, that's about it for today's program. 00:27:58.46\00:28:00.20 I hope you've been challenged and I hope you've been 00:28:00.23\00:28:02.94 inspired by what you've seen and heard. 00:28:02.97\00:28:05.18 For Adventist Mission, I am Gary Krause 00:28:05.21\00:28:07.61 and I hope you can join me next time 00:28:07.64\00:28:09.54 right here on Global Mission Snapshots. 00:28:09.57\00:28:13.14
