West Africa, India, Global Mission Pioneers 00:00:01.06\00:00:04.15 and much, much more, coming up next 00:00:04.18\00:00:06.55 on "Global Mission Snapshots" 00:00:06.58\00:00:08.53 Just before He went up to heaven, 00:00:19.63\00:00:22.00 Jesus gave us a command. 00:00:22.03\00:00:25.02 He gave us a mission. 00:00:25.05\00:00:27.76 Jesus said, go. 00:00:27.79\00:00:30.17 Go unto all the world, telling them of His love. 00:00:30.20\00:00:35.10 This is our mission. 00:00:35.13\00:00:37.17 This is our "Global Mission." 00:00:37.20\00:00:39.15 Hello and welcome to Global Mission Snapshots. 00:00:44.38\00:00:46.94 I'm Gary Krause. 00:00:46.97\00:00:48.52 Today we will be talking with Joe Watts, 00:00:48.55\00:00:50.59 Disaster Response Coordinator for Adventist Community Services 00:00:50.62\00:00:54.56 in North America. 00:00:54.59\00:00:56.16 We will be talking about how the Adventist church 00:00:56.19\00:00:58.31 helps when people's lives are disrupted by disaster. 00:00:58.34\00:01:02.79 And we will talk with Delbert Pearman, 00:01:02.82\00:01:04.68 Pioneering Director for Global Mission 00:01:04.71\00:01:06.86 about Global Mission Pioneers. 00:01:06.89\00:01:09.05 Pastor Pearman knows firsthand 00:01:09.08\00:01:11.26 about the challenges of mission after serving as a missionary 00:01:11.29\00:01:14.88 in Asia, Africa and the Middle-East. 00:01:14.91\00:01:17.87 But first up, let's visit a school in West Africa 00:01:17.90\00:01:21.62 and find out what happened 00:01:21.65\00:01:23.36 when they were hit by a surprise storm. 00:01:23.39\00:01:26.13 Not far from the main street in Divo a small city 00:01:31.96\00:01:34.92 in the country of Côte d'Ivoire, 00:01:34.95\00:01:36.80 students are studying hard in their classroom 00:01:36.83\00:01:38.89 in a Seventh-day Adventist school. 00:01:38.92\00:01:41.52 The school was started 50 years ago 00:01:41.55\00:01:43.43 by a Seventh-day Adventist who had a dream 00:01:43.46\00:01:45.49 about what Adventist education could do for people 00:01:45.52\00:01:48.58 in this West African country. 00:01:48.61\00:01:50.34 Today, the school has grown to more than 450 students, 00:01:50.37\00:01:54.35 most of them will never forget what happened 00:01:54.38\00:01:56.82 nearly a year ago. 00:01:56.85\00:01:57.93 School day seem like any other day that April. 00:02:01.60\00:02:04.69 The morning had passed quietly, and teachers and students 00:02:04.72\00:02:07.28 at the Divo Adventist School 00:02:07.31\00:02:08.83 had finished lunch and were settling back into classes. 00:02:08.86\00:02:12.64 Every thing started in April 2008, 00:02:13.40\00:02:16.12 it was 2 in the afternoon when the rain started. 00:02:16.15\00:02:19.43 There was only one classroom that was full of students 00:02:22.30\00:02:25.13 and when it started the children came out and ran 00:02:25.16\00:02:27.24 to take refugee somewhere. 00:02:27.27\00:02:29.56 The wind was blowing so much that everyone was afraid. 00:02:29.59\00:02:32.50 Unfortunately for us, the front two classrooms 00:02:32.53\00:02:34.75 were empty. 00:02:34.78\00:02:36.62 That afternoon a mighty storm whirled across 00:02:36.65\00:02:39.23 the campus ripping the roof from a couple of the classrooms. 00:02:39.26\00:02:45.81 Students and staff at the school 00:02:45.84\00:02:47.31 praise God that the two classrooms that were damaged, 00:02:47.34\00:02:49.88 the most were empty at the time. 00:02:49.91\00:02:52.40 They look forward to the day when the roof will be repaired 00:02:52.43\00:02:54.66 and they can use the classrooms once again. 00:02:54.69\00:02:58.52 Thank you for supporting Adventist education 00:02:58.55\00:03:01.11 and thank you for supporting the mission offerings. 00:03:01.14\00:03:04.26 My guest is Pastor Joe Watts who heads up disaster response 00:03:07.31\00:03:11.51 for the North American Region 00:03:11.54\00:03:13.50 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:03:13.53\00:03:15.25 Thanks for joining us Joe. 00:03:15.28\00:03:16.31 Hey, it's my pleasure. 00:03:16.34\00:03:17.82 Now, disaster response, when we think of disasters 00:03:17.85\00:03:20.26 we think of floods, hurricanes, they are the sort of things 00:03:20.29\00:03:22.72 you are dealing with? 00:03:22.75\00:03:23.92 Well, those and lot of other things, 00:03:23.95\00:03:25.56 anything human beings are not able to take care 00:03:25.59\00:03:29.90 and sustain themselves 00:03:29.93\00:03:31.04 and that's really considered disaster. 00:03:31.07\00:03:32.83 So, it can be a lot of different things. 00:03:32.86\00:03:36.40 For example in Newtown we had that terrible tragedy 00:03:36.43\00:03:40.20 with the young children that were killed. 00:03:40.23\00:03:43.60 That's a tremendous disaster, 00:03:43.63\00:03:45.15 it was not a flood, it's not a tornado, 00:03:45.18\00:03:46.98 it's not a hurricane. 00:03:47.01\00:03:48.23 But, it's a tremendous disaster 00:03:48.26\00:03:50.59 and we've been able to help with that. 00:03:50.62\00:03:52.99 And this is when people are at their most vulnerable, 00:03:53.02\00:03:56.60 they are looking for help and the Christian church 00:03:56.63\00:03:59.50 sometimes turns a blind eye. 00:03:59.53\00:04:00.95 Yes and we need to reach out because after all ACS is 00:04:00.98\00:04:05.80 a ministry of compassion. 00:04:05.83\00:04:07.43 That's Adventist Community Services 00:04:07.46\00:04:09.10 Right, yeah, I use acronyms. 00:04:09.13\00:04:11.28 And Adventist Community Services is a ministry of compassion. 00:04:11.31\00:04:14.46 And that's what we as-- as church members 00:04:14.49\00:04:17.66 should be thinking about and doing in our communities 00:04:17.69\00:04:20.67 of how can we help people that are hurting in our communities. 00:04:20.70\00:04:26.65 We don't have to wait for a disaster to happen, 00:04:26.68\00:04:30.17 to look for needs and people that need help in our community. 00:04:30.20\00:04:34.05 Can you give me some examples 00:04:34.08\00:04:35.11 of some of the people's lives 00:04:35.14\00:04:37.36 that you have been able to help in recent times? 00:04:37.39\00:04:40.69 Well, I think about a year or so ago, 00:04:40.72\00:04:43.25 we had a tornado on Woodward, Oklahoma. 00:04:43.28\00:04:46.95 And we had a couple there they had been studying 00:04:46.98\00:04:50.12 with the local pastor 00:04:50.15\00:04:52.07 and I think they had just been baptized 00:04:52.10\00:04:57.28 and they went back to their tornado ravaged house 00:04:57.31\00:05:00.35 and you know as it was-- most things were blown away, 00:05:00.38\00:05:04.05 one thing they found were some pages of their Bible study 00:05:04.08\00:05:08.19 and they were so thrilled to find their Bible study pages 00:05:08.22\00:05:12.60 because it meant so much to them. 00:05:12.63\00:05:14.54 And it's kind of an interesting thing. 00:05:14.57\00:05:18.46 Another one was in Hurricane Sandy, 00:05:18.49\00:05:22.29 one thing that we did there or our people did 00:05:22.32\00:05:24.59 and I'm so proud of our laity, of our volunteers, 00:05:24.62\00:05:29.30 because Adventist Community Service 00:05:29.33\00:05:31.42 is a volunteer organization. 00:05:31.45\00:05:33.71 It's manned by volunteers, it's mainly volunteers 00:05:33.74\00:05:38.87 and laity making a difference in people's lives 00:05:38.90\00:05:42.32 and they went out and did mobile distribution, 00:05:42.35\00:05:47.74 took things in trailers and trucks 00:05:47.77\00:05:49.59 and went out to the people 00:05:49.62\00:05:51.61 and the problem was public transportation was down 00:05:51.64\00:05:55.00 and so they didn't have, couldn't have the ability 00:05:55.03\00:05:58.25 to go and again a lot of the organizations 00:05:58.28\00:06:00.36 were setting up good distribution centers 00:06:00.39\00:06:02.23 with lot of good things but people couldn't get there, 00:06:02.26\00:06:05.70 and so it was very interesting or very good. 00:06:05.73\00:06:10.12 I know one man was a-- had a little grocery cart, 00:06:10.15\00:06:12.70 one of the little well, a pull cart, 00:06:12.73\00:06:14.59 not a grocery cart, but a little, 00:06:14.62\00:06:16.32 a little two wheel cart that he would take 00:06:16.35\00:06:18.10 to the store to get his grocery. 00:06:18.13\00:06:20.03 And he said, you know, he said, I just-- I can't go 00:06:20.06\00:06:23.96 two or three miles to where they are giving out stuff. 00:06:23.99\00:06:26.30 He said I have heard there is a lot of good stuff 00:06:26.33\00:06:28.07 being given out. 00:06:28.10\00:06:29.19 But I can't get there and if-- if I could, you know, 00:06:29.22\00:06:34.27 and he said but you brought it to me. 00:06:34.30\00:06:35.84 And so that's and so we did that a lot, 00:06:35.87\00:06:39.49 our people, our young people did a lot of running upstairs 00:06:39.52\00:06:42.30 with water to get water and food to the people 00:06:42.33\00:06:45.37 in high-rise buildings, with the elevators without, 00:06:45.40\00:06:47.60 with electricity out and they dug sand 00:06:47.63\00:06:52.12 out of basements and just all kinds of things. 00:06:52.15\00:06:55.20 Are there any particular areas 00:06:55.23\00:06:57.57 that Adventist Community Services specializes in. 00:06:57.60\00:07:01.66 Are there any areas that you particularly good at? 00:07:01.69\00:07:05.34 Well, disaster response of course is the big one 00:07:05.37\00:07:10.80 just because disasters are increasing. 00:07:10.83\00:07:13.60 But we have some other ministries that are really, 00:07:13.63\00:07:16.75 really excellent in tutoring and mentoring. 00:07:16.78\00:07:19.42 Where we take and help young children 00:07:19.45\00:07:21.51 mainly in the area of fourth and fifth grade that age group. 00:07:21.54\00:07:25.08 Andrews University wrote a curriculum, 00:07:25.11\00:07:27.88 it's a tremendous curriculum to help those young people 00:07:27.91\00:07:31.46 as you work with those young people 00:07:31.49\00:07:32.62 on a regular basis and tutor them and mentor them. 00:07:32.65\00:07:36.51 Its makes a real difference in their lives. 00:07:36.54\00:07:40.74 Crisis Care, one of the newer ministries 00:07:40.77\00:07:43.36 where we are training our pastors 00:07:43.39\00:07:44.98 and other professionals how to-- 00:07:45.01\00:07:46.68 how to help people after a tragedy or a disaster. 00:07:46.71\00:07:50.96 We have a... 00:07:50.99\00:07:55.76 elder care is one of our newest ministries 00:07:55.79\00:07:58.13 also where we are thinking about senior citizens 00:07:58.16\00:08:01.17 and the senior citizens not only this 00:08:01.20\00:08:04.99 the senior citizens but also the caregiver 00:08:05.02\00:08:07.59 and helping that caregiver and helping them 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.47 find ways to help and also to make through 00:08:10.50\00:08:13.68 with their own thinking and their own feelings. 00:08:13.71\00:08:17.39 We have, let me see, I have talked about then 00:08:17.42\00:08:21.18 community development which is urban ministries 00:08:21.21\00:08:24.71 and your food pantry comes under there, 00:08:24.74\00:08:27.50 your all time Dorcas comes under there 00:08:27.53\00:08:29.20 and we haven't forgot Dorcas. 00:08:29.23\00:08:31.12 For our viewers who have never heard 00:08:31.15\00:08:32.42 of Dorcas, what is that? 00:08:32.45\00:08:33.50 Well, Dorcas was a kind of a term 00:08:33.53\00:08:35.22 that we use because of the Dorcas 00:08:35.25\00:08:37.23 in the Bible that helped other people 00:08:37.26\00:08:39.07 and we kind of that became a term 00:08:39.10\00:08:40.89 that we use to describe our ministry 00:08:40.92\00:08:44.28 to the churches ministry where may be they 00:08:44.31\00:08:46.89 had a place where they were clothing 00:08:46.92\00:08:50.01 and may be food and it was you know, 00:08:50.04\00:08:52.16 and we learned an awful lot 00:08:52.19\00:08:53.25 from our grandmas that taught us about Dorcas and caring. 00:08:53.28\00:08:57.01 And then the last area is youth in power to serve. 00:08:57.04\00:09:00.73 You know, we need to make sure that our youth 00:09:00.76\00:09:03.66 understand service. 00:09:03.69\00:09:06.18 And if youth understand service at the very beginning 00:09:06.21\00:09:09.48 of their lives when they are young. 00:09:09.51\00:09:10.94 Statistics and studies have shown 00:09:10.97\00:09:13.30 that they will continue to do service throughout their lives 00:09:13.33\00:09:17.39 and so that makes a tremendous impact 00:09:17.42\00:09:21.58 and we've got a good young man down in Florida, 00:09:21.61\00:09:26.26 that Justin Wilbert that's leading that out 00:09:26.29\00:09:28.70 and doing a terrific job. 00:09:28.73\00:09:31.33 Wonderful. 00:09:31.36\00:09:32.68 Now, how many Adventist community service centers 00:09:32.71\00:09:35.76 are there in North America? 00:09:35.79\00:09:37.25 I think there is about 1,250 service community centers, 00:09:37.28\00:09:41.23 you know, every church should have one, 00:09:41.26\00:09:43.53 but they don't. 00:09:43.56\00:09:45.15 And but we-- from the big to the small, 00:09:45.18\00:09:47.66 we've got some huge centers but also just the food pantry 00:09:47.69\00:09:51.92 may be in the church. 00:09:51.95\00:09:53.04 Now, if people want to find out more information 00:09:53.07\00:09:55.12 about ACS can they go to the web? 00:09:55.15\00:09:57.47 They can go to the web Adventist, 00:09:57.50\00:09:58.91 I mean communityservices.org with an 's' make sure 00:09:58.94\00:10:03.15 you put an 's' on the community services. 00:10:03.18\00:10:05.01 Fantastic. 00:10:05.04\00:10:06.07 Joe, thank so much for joining us today. 00:10:06.10\00:10:07.66 It's my pleasure, it's great. 00:10:07.69\00:10:09.40 Viewers at home, perhaps you might find someway 00:10:09.43\00:10:12.63 that you can be involved in community services. 00:10:12.66\00:10:15.37 If you want to find out more information, 00:10:15.40\00:10:17.03 don't forget that you can go to the web. 00:10:17.06\00:10:18.85 Go to communityservices.org may be there is a place 00:10:18.88\00:10:22.88 for you to be able to connect with people in the community 00:10:22.91\00:10:25.93 to help them, perhaps when they are most in need. 00:10:25.96\00:10:28.91 I'm delighted to welcome my colleague 00:11:16.57\00:11:18.42 Pastor Delbert Pearman, who is going to talk to us 00:11:18.45\00:11:21.05 about Global Mission Pioneers. 00:11:21.08\00:11:23.63 Delbert, for me it's always a privilege to meet 00:11:23.66\00:11:26.88 a pioneer in the field because I see sacrifice, 00:11:26.91\00:11:30.13 I see dedication and it's usually a wakeup call 00:11:30.16\00:11:33.64 or a reminder to me about, you know, where are my values. 00:11:33.67\00:11:36.70 Tell us about Global Mission Pioneers, 00:11:36.73\00:11:38.55 who are they? 00:11:38.58\00:11:39.64 Well, Global Mission Pioneers are workers 00:11:39.67\00:11:42.66 who people who work among their own people group 00:11:42.69\00:11:46.28 and they are some advantages to that. 00:11:46.31\00:11:48.15 Number one, they don't have to learn a new culture 00:11:48.18\00:11:51.00 like traditional missionaries, they don't have to leave home, 00:11:51.03\00:11:54.99 they don't have to learn a new language 00:11:55.02\00:11:57.33 and they are all ready well known in the community 00:11:57.36\00:11:59.85 and so as a result they can reach 00:11:59.88\00:12:03.58 their people very quickly and through support from the-- 00:12:03.61\00:12:07.76 through the church structure they are able to witness 00:12:07.79\00:12:10.38 and raise up a church. 00:12:10.41\00:12:12.15 And the work of the Global Mission Pioneer 00:12:12.18\00:12:14.46 is to plant a church 00:12:14.49\00:12:16.15 among a people group within their own community 00:12:16.18\00:12:19.71 that probably did not have access 00:12:19.74\00:12:21.74 to Christianity or to the Adventist message 00:12:21.77\00:12:25.23 before that. 00:12:25.26\00:12:26.45 Now when you say they don't have to leave their own home, 00:12:26.48\00:12:28.37 you mean like their own cultural group. 00:12:28.40\00:12:30.09 But they may have to travel someway to. 00:12:30.12\00:12:32.20 Yes, that's correct. 00:12:32.23\00:12:33.57 Yeah, they-- yes, they might have to travel some distance 00:12:33.60\00:12:36.20 but they're already established 00:12:36.23\00:12:38.17 among that people group. 00:12:38.20\00:12:40.12 Yeah. 00:12:40.15\00:12:41.18 Now, Delbert, these people, these are trained 00:12:41.21\00:12:44.55 for four years in a theological seminary 00:12:44.58\00:12:46.69 before they're sent out? 00:12:46.72\00:12:47.80 No, that's the beauty of the Pioneer program 00:12:47.83\00:12:52.34 is that you don't have to have any academic training, 00:12:52.37\00:12:56.30 theological training, you just have to have 00:12:56.33\00:12:58.44 a love for the Lord, a passion for reaching 00:12:58.47\00:13:01.32 the people target group and once you have that, 00:13:01.35\00:13:04.68 you have the support of the organized church 00:13:04.71\00:13:07.44 with resources to help you to get started. 00:13:07.47\00:13:10.19 So, most Global Mission Pioneers will go through 00:13:10.22\00:13:13.20 a basic training course. 00:13:13.23\00:13:15.83 Covering the fundamentals of witnessing 00:13:15.86\00:13:18.92 what to do when they are going to the community etc. 00:13:18.95\00:13:20.70 But it's not like a 12 month course or anything. 00:13:20.73\00:13:23.75 No, that's correct, that's correct. 00:13:23.78\00:13:25.77 And through this program, with the support 00:13:25.80\00:13:30.20 of a local church they are able to do 00:13:30.23\00:13:33.22 so much more because they are 00:13:33.25\00:13:36.03 as it can be considered. 00:13:36.06\00:13:38.40 They don't come as a threat coming from outside 00:13:38.43\00:13:41.56 of the people group but they are already there. 00:13:41.59\00:13:44.48 Now, Delbert, you have met many pioneers. 00:13:44.51\00:13:47.13 Tell me a story about a pioneer? 00:13:47.16\00:13:49.48 Well, there is one pioneer working in a particular country, 00:13:49.51\00:13:54.68 a very difficult country who is a physiotherapist 00:13:54.71\00:13:58.67 and he decided that he wanted to dedicate 00:13:58.70\00:14:02.21 his physiotherapy practice to not only reaching the people 00:14:02.24\00:14:06.75 within their community but also to win them 00:14:06.78\00:14:10.03 to Christ and to help them through their problems. 00:14:10.06\00:14:15.28 This part of the world is known for war 00:14:15.31\00:14:17.95 and there are lot of people who are stressed 00:14:17.98\00:14:20.21 and so he practices, he has won the confidence 00:14:20.24\00:14:24.52 of this community and there where he has opportunity 00:14:24.55\00:14:27.66 he shares with them health principles 00:14:27.69\00:14:30.07 which further leads them to further questions 00:14:30.10\00:14:32.45 and then he is ready and prepared to share 00:14:32.48\00:14:35.03 even about Jesus and his love for them. 00:14:35.06\00:14:38.21 And so that's one that has excited me. 00:14:38.24\00:14:41.63 Another example is in a country in Inter-America, 00:14:41.66\00:14:47.71 and here they have purchased the boat 00:14:47.74\00:14:50.56 and the local church organized by this Global Mission Pioneer 00:14:50.59\00:14:55.54 would take tracks, food supplies 00:14:55.57\00:14:59.09 and he travels up and down this river on this boat 00:14:59.12\00:15:02.35 and they to all the villages along the river. 00:15:02.38\00:15:05.38 He would stop witness to this community, 00:15:05.41\00:15:08.40 help them in their needs 00:15:08.43\00:15:09.90 and even helps them with their children who are illiterate. 00:15:09.93\00:15:13.65 Many times he would take them, 00:15:13.68\00:15:15.11 have like little vacation Bible school programs for them 00:15:15.14\00:15:20.36 on that particular day and this is another project 00:15:20.39\00:15:23.36 that we are happy to support and there are several projects 00:15:23.39\00:15:26.87 like that. 00:15:26.90\00:15:29.25 We are even working among in one particular country 00:15:29.28\00:15:33.93 where the commercial sex trade is very popular, 00:15:33.96\00:15:37.92 that we have a Global Mission Pioneer 00:15:37.95\00:15:40.27 working among these men and women 00:15:40.30\00:15:42.58 and we have a group that's just recently graduated 00:15:42.61\00:15:47.15 with the discovery Bible lessons 00:15:47.18\00:15:49.38 and there are others in other brothels are saying 00:15:49.41\00:15:53.21 come over and teach us. 00:15:53.24\00:15:55.54 And so we reach people in so many different ways. 00:15:55.57\00:15:59.53 Most of our church planting comes through, 00:15:59.56\00:16:02.38 most of our Global Mission Pioneers are 00:16:02.41\00:16:04.99 involved in church planting. 00:16:05.02\00:16:06.79 And they will go about in the community offering 00:16:06.82\00:16:09.32 Bible studies, giving prayers in their home 00:16:09.35\00:16:13.24 and also for visiting them, 00:16:13.27\00:16:16.68 when they are sick offering small remedies 00:16:16.71\00:16:19.61 to help and winning confidence and as a result 00:16:19.64\00:16:22.41 are very successful in that area. 00:16:22.44\00:16:25.73 They always remind me of Jesus' incarnational ministry 00:16:25.76\00:16:29.11 that He came and He lived among the people, 00:16:29.14\00:16:31.71 He didn't just come and visit and then leave. 00:16:31.74\00:16:35.87 He actually stayed there and that's what the pioneers do, 00:16:35.90\00:16:38.15 they will stay there for years, they will become part 00:16:38.18\00:16:39.86 of the community though. 00:16:39.89\00:16:41.20 Work in the fields with the people, 00:16:41.23\00:16:43.04 they will play soccer with the kids, 00:16:43.07\00:16:45.53 they mingle and as you said they win confidence. 00:16:45.56\00:16:48.80 Yes, you know, the book Evangelism says 00:16:48.83\00:16:51.26 that 3,000 will be converted in a day 00:16:51.29\00:16:54.81 and this is making reference to the time of Pentecost 00:16:54.84\00:16:58.11 which will be repeated in these final days of 00:16:58.14\00:17:00.94 this world's history. 00:17:00.97\00:17:02.39 And today the Adventist church 00:17:02.42\00:17:05.37 baptizes over 3,000 in every day 00:17:05.40\00:17:09.97 of the year and we baptize over 1.1 million 00:17:10.00\00:17:14.11 people annually and we have been doing 00:17:14.14\00:17:16.01 that for the last 7, 8 years. 00:17:16.04\00:17:19.49 Many of those baptisms can be traced back 00:17:19.52\00:17:21.98 to the work of our Global Mission Pioneers. 00:17:22.01\00:17:25.10 Their activity is contributed significantly 00:17:25.13\00:17:28.56 to the number of people who are being baptized 00:17:28.59\00:17:32.17 into the Adventist church. 00:17:32.20\00:17:33.93 Now you witness that firsthand, 00:17:33.96\00:17:35.28 when you were a missionary. 00:17:35.31\00:17:37.05 Yes, in two countries I served as secretary 00:17:37.08\00:17:42.03 as well as treasurer. 00:17:42.06\00:17:43.20 Acting secretary and treasurer 00:17:43.23\00:17:45.03 and one was as a secretary. 00:17:45.06\00:17:46.99 And I was responsible for keeping track 00:17:47.02\00:17:49.41 of the membership and also the baptisms 00:17:49.44\00:17:52.16 and discovered that in both of the countries 00:17:52.19\00:17:57.24 the majority of the baptisms are coming 00:17:57.27\00:17:59.47 through our Global Mission Pioneers. 00:17:59.50\00:18:01.67 And so that's a testimony to the work 00:18:01.70\00:18:05.02 of our Global Mission Pioneers. 00:18:05.05\00:18:06.66 Wonderful. 00:18:06.69\00:18:07.96 Delbert, thank you so much for sharing 00:18:07.99\00:18:09.86 with us today. 00:18:09.89\00:18:10.93 I really appreciate it. 00:18:10.96\00:18:12.97 And to our viewers at home, please continue to pray 00:18:13.00\00:18:16.67 for Global Mission Pioneers, 00:18:16.70\00:18:18.00 they are doing a wonderful work. 00:18:18.03\00:18:19.95 They are doing at a sacrificial level, 00:18:19.98\00:18:21.95 they are only receiving a basic living stipend 00:18:21.98\00:18:24.57 enough to rent a small room, 00:18:24.60\00:18:27.80 enough to feed their family, 00:18:27.83\00:18:30.71 enough to have a few materials, 00:18:30.74\00:18:32.63 a few resources to use 00:18:32.66\00:18:33.91 and so they are sacrificial church planters, 00:18:33.94\00:18:37.36 usually young people, always lay people usually young people. 00:18:37.39\00:18:41.29 Thank you for your continuing support for them. 00:18:41.32\00:18:43.55 From my childhood, I have felt very close to God. 00:19:03.81\00:19:06.64 Sobana is a lay evangelist working in India. 00:19:24.65\00:19:28.93 While her husband is in class at the Adventist seminary, 00:19:28.96\00:19:32.19 she travels to homes in remote villages 00:19:32.22\00:19:34.36 to hold Bible studies. 00:19:34.39\00:19:36.77 One day this small group invited a man named 00:19:36.80\00:19:39.13 Kishore to their meeting. 00:19:39.16\00:19:41.01 Kishore was a respected priest in several temples 00:19:41.04\00:19:43.79 in the city, so the Bible study group was new to him. 00:19:43.82\00:19:47.09 Kishore had many questions to ask. 00:19:47.12\00:19:52.46 I asked, "I've read in our holy books 00:19:52.49\00:19:54.78 about a holy man who was highly praised. 00:19:54.81\00:19:57.95 He was referred to as a man 00:19:57.98\00:19:59.70 who was inflicted with five wounds. 00:19:59.73\00:20:02.65 Who is this person? 00:20:02.68\00:20:04.52 As Kishore learned more about Jesus, 00:20:07.40\00:20:09.97 with time and study he became convinced 00:20:10.00\00:20:12.78 of the truth of what he was learning from the Bible. 00:20:12.81\00:20:15.50 Without failure I continued to have Bible studies with him. 00:20:18.69\00:20:24.38 Eventually Kishore decided to be baptized. 00:20:24.41\00:20:26.98 But it was a difficult decision. 00:20:27.01\00:20:29.70 When he left the priesthood in the temple, 00:20:29.73\00:20:31.58 his wife left him and took their daughter with her. 00:20:31.61\00:20:35.83 The rest of his family disowned him. 00:20:35.86\00:20:37.83 Old friends no longer speak to him. 00:20:37.86\00:20:41.21 Kishore finds strength in sharing 00:20:41.24\00:20:43.18 the love of Jesus with others. 00:20:43.21\00:20:45.28 Now, because of Kishore, nine others have 00:20:45.31\00:20:48.70 chosen to be baptized. 00:20:48.73\00:20:51.26 Please continue to pray for Kishore and Sobana 00:20:51.29\00:20:54.29 as they share Jesus with those around them. 00:20:54.32\00:20:58.54 Because of your financial support of the world budget 00:20:58.57\00:21:01.53 in mission offerings, people like Sobana 00:21:01.56\00:21:04.41 are reaching people like Kishore and starting new groups 00:21:04.44\00:21:08.40 of believers in India. 00:21:08.43\00:21:11.08 Thank you for your support of the mission 00:21:11.11\00:21:13.46 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:21:13.49\00:21:15.74 To find out more, please visit AdventistMission.org. 00:21:15.77\00:21:21.25 I grew up hearing stories and praying 00:21:27.39\00:21:29.59 for missionaries, serving in the islands 00:21:29.62\00:21:31.73 of the South Pacific. 00:21:31.76\00:21:33.40 And I think it's so important to teach 00:21:33.43\00:21:35.44 our children to look beyond themselves 00:21:35.47\00:21:37.86 to a world in need. 00:21:37.89\00:21:39.37 Here at Adventist mission, 00:21:39.40\00:21:40.96 we have created missionary cards for kids. 00:21:40.99\00:21:43.79 They feature pictures of children 00:21:43.82\00:21:45.53 from around the world. 00:21:45.56\00:21:47.32 They are specifically designed for Sabbath school 00:21:47.35\00:21:49.58 teachers to give to each child to take home. 00:21:49.61\00:21:52.89 If you like to see a sample set of these cards, 00:21:52.92\00:21:55.28 just call us or visit our website 00:21:55.31\00:21:57.35 and ask for mission cards for kids 00:21:57.38\00:22:00.06 or you can ask for offer number 302. 00:22:00.09\00:22:03.35 Please remember to clearly state your name, 00:22:03.38\00:22:05.81 your mailing address and be sure to mention 00:22:05.84\00:22:08.70 mission cards for kids or offer 302. 00:22:08.73\00:22:13.59 Well, that's about it for today's program. 00:22:13.62\00:22:15.43 And I hope you've been challenged, 00:22:15.46\00:22:16.94 I hope you've been inspired by what you've seen and heard. 00:22:16.97\00:22:20.30 We will leave you with this music video. 00:22:20.33\00:22:22.07 For Adventist Mission, I am 00:22:29.34\00:22:32.31
