A missionary hat preparing for short term mission trips 00:00:01.06\00:00:04.89 and Bible correspondence schools, 00:00:04.92\00:00:07.35 that and much more coming up next 00:00:07.38\00:00:09.63 on "Global Mission Snapshots." 00:00:09.66\00:00:11.74 Just before He went up to heaven, 00:00:23.59\00:00:25.17 Jesus gave us a command. 00:00:25.20\00:00:28.78 He gave us a mission. Jesus said, go. 00:00:28.81\00:00:33.83 Go unto all the world, telling them of His love. 00:00:33.86\00:00:38.94 This is our mission. This is our "Global Mission." 00:00:38.97\00:00:42.96 Hello I'm Gary Kruase. 00:00:48.26\00:00:49.76 Thank you for joining us as we look at a world of mission 00:00:49.79\00:00:52.61 on Global Mission Snapshots. 00:00:52.64\00:00:55.19 On today's program, we will be talking with Wagner Kuhn, 00:00:55.22\00:00:58.34 Associate Professor of World Mission 00:00:58.37\00:01:00.95 Seventh-day Adventist Seminary, 00:01:00.98\00:01:03.01 Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. 00:01:03.04\00:01:06.07 Now, that's a mouthful. 00:01:06.10\00:01:07.30 We will be talking to Dr. Kuhn about how we can best prepare 00:01:07.33\00:01:10.48 to be an effective witness cross culturally. 00:01:10.51\00:01:14.11 We will also be talking with Pastor Kurt Johnson, 00:01:14.14\00:01:17.03 Discovery Bible School Director about what's happening 00:01:17.06\00:01:20.44 with local churches that partner with the Bible school. 00:01:20.47\00:01:24.09 And we will visit a school in India, 00:01:24.12\00:01:25.66 that struggles to find room for all the students 00:01:25.69\00:01:29.04 that are wanting to attend. 00:01:29.07\00:01:30.75 But first, let's meet a missionary hat. 00:01:30.78\00:01:34.29 Felipe lives in the city of Lima, Peru. 00:01:48.75\00:01:52.41 He has dedicated his life 00:01:52.44\00:01:53.64 to sharing the love of Jesus with others. 00:01:53.67\00:01:56.65 But there was a time when Felipe was searching for his purpose 00:01:56.68\00:01:59.72 and did not know where to look. 00:01:59.75\00:02:02.13 He now knows that God's plans 00:02:02.16\00:02:03.67 can come from the most unexpected places. 00:02:03.70\00:02:08.05 Felipe was working at a university 00:02:08.08\00:02:09.81 where he was constantly searching for a sign 00:02:09.84\00:02:11.91 of what God wanted for his life. 00:02:11.94\00:02:14.22 Every day he walked to work passing by some homes and shops. 00:02:14.25\00:02:19.03 One day on his way to work, 00:02:19.06\00:02:20.61 Felipe was in a store and saw something that caught his eye. 00:02:20.64\00:02:24.43 There was a unique hat and Felipe loved interesting hats. 00:02:24.46\00:02:28.56 He bought the hat and wore it proudly the rest of the day. 00:02:28.59\00:02:32.32 Felipe was unaware of the significances 00:02:32.35\00:02:34.40 of the Adventist logo on the hat. 00:02:34.43\00:02:38.42 In my work, people asked me 00:02:40.22\00:02:41.36 if I knew the meaning of the cap. 00:02:41.39\00:02:43.00 And I said, no. 00:02:43.03\00:02:44.78 They asked me if I was an Adventist. 00:02:44.81\00:02:46.67 And I said, no, I'm not an Adventist. 00:02:46.70\00:02:49.03 Felipe was curious about what being an Adventist meant. 00:02:49.06\00:02:52.58 So he went looking for a Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:02:52.61\00:02:56.10 When I went looking for the church, 00:03:02.04\00:03:03.95 I asked the man selling orange juice 00:03:03.98\00:03:05.88 on the street about the Adventist church. 00:03:05.91\00:03:07.86 He answered me that he is an Adventist. 00:03:07.89\00:03:10.29 This was just the sign Felipe was waiting for. 00:03:14.60\00:03:18.19 After talking, the two men became friends 00:03:18.22\00:03:20.47 and visited the church together the next weekend. 00:03:20.50\00:03:23.84 Felipe felt welcome in the church 00:03:23.87\00:03:25.50 and returned again each week. 00:03:25.53\00:03:27.66 He now knows that God has a plan for his life. 00:03:27.69\00:03:31.31 My life is not only complete, it is more than that. 00:03:33.59\00:03:36.99 When I ask God something, 00:03:37.02\00:03:38.44 He gives me everything that I ask of Him. 00:03:38.47\00:03:40.64 So, now, I help other people to know about the word of God. 00:03:40.67\00:03:44.50 Felipe is thankful that he found the hat that lead him to be 00:03:44.53\00:03:48.04 a part of the Adventist church and to know Jesus. 00:03:48.07\00:03:52.05 He knows that God can use anyone 00:03:52.08\00:03:54.72 or anything including a hat to reach His people. 00:03:54.75\00:03:59.23 Please pray for those still searching 00:03:59.26\00:04:01.58 for a relationship with Jesus. 00:04:01.61\00:04:03.99 And thank you for your support of mission around the world. 00:04:04.02\00:04:09.15 I'm delighted to welcome Dr. Wagner Kuhn, 00:04:19.40\00:04:21.63 from the department of World Mission Adventist Seminary 00:04:21.66\00:04:25.85 in Berrien Springs, Michigan. 00:04:25.88\00:04:27.34 That's a mouthful. 00:04:27.37\00:04:28.40 Welcome, Wagner, glad you can join us. 00:04:28.43\00:04:30.88 Thank you. 00:04:30.91\00:04:32.39 You have a very important role in many respects 00:04:32.42\00:04:35.23 but to shape future pastors in the way-- 00:04:35.26\00:04:39.72 and present pastors in the way they are thinking about mission. 00:04:39.75\00:04:42.14 That's quite a responsibility. 00:04:42.17\00:04:44.17 It is indeed you know and I take it very seriously. 00:04:44.20\00:04:48.80 Are you saying that there is an interest in mission 00:04:48.83\00:04:52.38 among pastors that you are training? 00:04:52.41\00:04:54.36 More and more, you know, 00:04:54.39\00:04:55.43 you see pastors coming to the seminary for example, Gary 00:04:55.46\00:04:58.68 with avid desire of trying to understand more, 00:04:58.71\00:05:03.44 you know, cross cultural. 00:05:03.47\00:05:05.40 And because the places where they minister, you know, 00:05:05.43\00:05:09.80 they have members that come from all walks of life. 00:05:09.83\00:05:12.72 You know, from Asian background, 00:05:12.75\00:05:14.02 from Latin American background, 00:05:14.05\00:05:16.58 from you know, different types of cultures 00:05:16.61\00:05:19.73 and it is more and more with this interest in mind 00:05:19.76\00:05:23.71 that we try to provide certain way of helping 00:05:23.74\00:05:28.04 of training pastors and young ministers in our days. 00:05:28.07\00:05:32.85 Very interesting. 00:05:32.88\00:05:34.07 Now, Wagner, I want to talk to you about short term mission. 00:05:34.10\00:05:39.03 It seems today that almost every Adventist church, 00:05:39.06\00:05:41.44 every organization has some sort of 00:05:41.47\00:05:43.15 a short term mission opportunity 00:05:43.18\00:05:45.64 that they are involving church members 00:05:45.67\00:05:47.43 and can you describe this growing phenomenon? 00:05:47.46\00:05:50.95 Well, it is certainly a very huge phenomenon 00:05:50.98\00:05:54.02 that nobody really can catch and define very well 00:05:54.05\00:05:58.09 for example, since statistics are saying right now, 00:05:58.12\00:06:01.73 that between four and five million Americans 00:06:01.76\00:06:04.76 or North Americans are involved in short term missions annually 00:06:04.79\00:06:09.32 and these I'm talking about Christians in general 00:06:09.35\00:06:12.20 that go out to do medical missions, 00:06:12.23\00:06:15.18 you know, orphanage missions, 00:06:15.21\00:06:17.91 vacation Bible schools and all kinds of types of ministries 00:06:17.94\00:06:23.26 you know, evangelistic meetings and so forth. 00:06:23.29\00:06:27.29 Out of that it is estimated that about between 14,000 to 40,000 00:06:27.32\00:06:35.29 and even some 70 or 80,000 are Seventh-day Adventists. 00:06:35.32\00:06:39.64 We don't have very good statistics. 00:06:39.67\00:06:42.98 You know, North American division reported in, 00:06:43.01\00:06:45.36 you know, couple of years ago about 45,000 people 00:06:45.39\00:06:48.94 involved in short term missions in one year. 00:06:48.97\00:06:53.20 That ranges you know, from less than two weeks 00:06:53.23\00:06:56.65 to about you know, close to two years, 00:06:56.68\00:07:00.14 but nowadays short term missions 00:07:00.17\00:07:02.09 are even less than two weeks only. 00:07:02.12\00:07:05.80 Being certain mission trips only for about 00:07:05.83\00:07:09.94 six or seven days including travel days. 00:07:09.97\00:07:12.86 So, that's a challenge. 00:07:12.89\00:07:14.63 So how does that compare short-term mission 00:07:14.66\00:07:17.33 with people who are devoted, 00:07:17.36\00:07:18.62 sort of like make a career of being a missionary, 00:07:18.65\00:07:21.55 who go for long term, how do those numbers compare? 00:07:21.58\00:07:24.87 Oh, for example, Gary, I would say that statistics 00:07:24.90\00:07:28.81 are telling us some who are doing research 00:07:28.84\00:07:31.90 that for every one long term career missionary, 00:07:31.93\00:07:36.85 you have about sixty or more short term missionaries. 00:07:36.88\00:07:41.75 You know, are short termers as they call it. 00:07:41.78\00:07:44.89 So, you know the proportion and everyone that goes 00:07:44.92\00:07:48.41 will spend about 2 or $3,000 you know, average. 00:07:48.44\00:07:53.68 You know, the whole Christian tent makers 00:07:53.71\00:07:57.80 are those who are Christians out of North America 00:07:57.83\00:08:00.71 are spending $2.2 billion a year. 00:08:00.74\00:08:04.52 We don't have precise statistics 00:08:04.55\00:08:06.43 for the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:08:06.46\00:08:07.93 but those who are studying it are saying that 00:08:07.96\00:08:12.25 at least 2 or $3,000 each person will spend. 00:08:12.28\00:08:16.10 Okay, now, what are the advantages 00:08:16.13\00:08:17.88 of short-term mission? 00:08:17.91\00:08:19.12 What benefits is that bringing to the church? 00:08:19.15\00:08:22.32 Short term mission can bring a lot of benefits. 00:08:22.35\00:08:25.75 One of them is that it can create 00:08:25.78\00:08:28.00 good partnerships for the long run. 00:08:28.03\00:08:30.85 And if those good partnerships for the long run are developed, 00:08:30.88\00:08:35.24 then a lot of benefits come. 00:08:35.27\00:08:37.64 Both for those who go and for the ones who receive. 00:08:37.67\00:08:41.24 I think, Gary, we need to be aware 00:08:41.27\00:08:43.93 that short term mission trips are only good 00:08:43.96\00:08:49.18 when they are good for both parties, 00:08:49.21\00:08:50.89 those who go and those who receive. 00:08:50.92\00:08:54.24 So we need to have that in mind. 00:08:54.27\00:08:56.39 So what council would you give to organizations 00:08:56.42\00:08:59.90 and people involved in short-term mission? 00:08:59.93\00:09:02.45 What are the things they need to keep in mind 00:09:02.48\00:09:04.15 to make it effective? 00:09:04.18\00:09:06.14 Well, first of all I think 00:09:06.17\00:09:07.85 they need to look at and ask the questions. 00:09:07.88\00:09:11.94 Those that I'm going to serve what do they need? 00:09:11.97\00:09:17.33 Am I the one to tell them what they need 00:09:17.36\00:09:20.05 or should I ask them questions of what is their need? 00:09:20.08\00:09:24.96 Because many of us who go on short term missions, 00:09:24.99\00:09:27.84 we have a personal agenda 00:09:27.87\00:09:30.09 and we want to do what we think it's important, 00:09:30.12\00:09:32.12 but we don't often ask the questions. 00:09:32.15\00:09:35.07 Also and this is very, very important. 00:09:35.10\00:09:38.80 Research is being done and very few of the groups 00:09:38.83\00:09:42.31 that go on short term mission get, 00:09:42.34\00:09:44.11 they get good training. 00:09:44.14\00:09:46.24 Usually there is no training involved, 00:09:46.27\00:09:48.29 there is a couple of hours 00:09:48.32\00:09:49.44 of certain explanations of logistics. 00:09:49.47\00:09:52.71 And very little is done in terms of serious training 00:09:52.74\00:09:56.64 and this is very important in order to avoid 00:09:56.67\00:09:59.46 major blunders and serious problems 00:09:59.49\00:10:02.64 you know, with-- especially with teams. 00:10:02.67\00:10:05.82 What sort of damage can be done? 00:10:05.85\00:10:08.68 One is that for example short-term missions 00:10:08.71\00:10:10.69 can create spiritual hyper 00:10:10.72\00:10:14.42 and usually this spiritual hyper is short lived. 00:10:14.45\00:10:17.89 It fades away after a couple of week, 00:10:17.92\00:10:20.10 you know, or a month, people return. 00:10:20.13\00:10:22.56 So this can be kind of a distorted picture, 00:10:22.59\00:10:25.82 you know of what can be done in the long term partnership. 00:10:25.85\00:10:30.21 So again if partnerships are developed 00:10:30.24\00:10:32.86 and you go two or three or four or five times to the same place, 00:10:32.89\00:10:37.04 then you will know the people who are there 00:10:37.07\00:10:39.84 and they will know you. 00:10:39.87\00:10:41.82 There is a bond of trust being created 00:10:41.85\00:10:45.12 and a spiritual development being effected on both sides. 00:10:45.15\00:10:51.20 For somebody who wants to do it right 00:10:51.23\00:10:53.66 and wants to know how to do it better, 00:10:53.69\00:10:58.35 are there sort of resources to help train them? 00:10:58.38\00:11:01.80 For example, I have a book here you know, 00:11:01.83\00:11:03.28 it's called Effective Engagement 00:11:03.31\00:11:05.25 in Short Term Missions, doing it right. 00:11:05.28\00:11:08.81 There are several books, you know, 00:11:08.84\00:11:10.27 for example also Passport to Mission 00:11:10.30\00:11:12.37 which is a book done by the General Conference 00:11:12.40\00:11:16.10 or the Institute of World Mission on how to be prepared 00:11:16.13\00:11:20.92 and being sensitive to minister cross culturally, 00:11:20.95\00:11:24.52 you should go out of your comfort zone 00:11:24.55\00:11:27.16 and then minister for those that you aim at. 00:11:27.19\00:11:31.54 Fantastic, Wagner, thanks for joining us today. 00:11:31.57\00:11:34.70 And viewers at home, you can go to adventistmission.org 00:11:34.73\00:11:38.93 to find out more resources 00:11:38.96\00:11:40.65 for how you can make short term mission work best. 00:11:40.68\00:11:44.09 I'm delighted to welcome Pastor Kurt Johnson to our program. 00:12:24.83\00:12:28.52 Pastor Johnson, cares for Bible Correspondence schools 00:12:28.55\00:12:31.66 around the world. 00:12:31.69\00:12:33.00 He also directs the Bible school at the Voice of Prophecy 00:12:33.03\00:12:35.66 in the North American Adventist Media Center. 00:12:35.69\00:12:38.24 Kurt, thanks so much for joining us. 00:12:38.27\00:12:40.58 This is a ministry that blankets the globe, 00:12:40.61\00:12:43.32 but you have an interest in getting as many churches, 00:12:43.35\00:12:46.71 local churches as possible involved, how does that work? 00:12:46.74\00:12:49.84 Well, we call them discover Bible schools. 00:12:49.87\00:12:52.41 And our goal is that to become a branch of the media center 00:12:52.44\00:12:55.57 and they--as we go and we help a local church 00:12:55.60\00:12:58.60 to set up basically a Bible study ministry 00:12:58.63\00:13:00.49 as an outreach to the local community. 00:13:00.52\00:13:03.18 And we help the church members to be able to go out 00:13:03.21\00:13:06.99 and find people to study the Bible with. 00:13:07.02\00:13:09.35 And then we share with them, there're five different ways 00:13:09.38\00:13:11.69 that we teach them to give those Bible studies to those interest. 00:13:11.72\00:13:14.97 And that's personally a one to one 00:13:15.00\00:13:16.78 Bible study small groups in a home, 00:13:16.81\00:13:19.45 correspondence by mail out of the local church. 00:13:19.48\00:13:22.14 They can study online on the internet and use of DVD's. 00:13:22.17\00:13:26.69 So in North America, how many church members 00:13:26.72\00:13:29.40 would you estimate get involved in this? 00:13:29.43\00:13:31.46 Well, we have 2,500 churches in North America 00:13:31.49\00:13:34.11 that have branch Bible schools. Wow. 00:13:34.14\00:13:36.66 And so, as far as the total member, 00:13:36.69\00:13:39.51 it varies per church from a handful 00:13:39.54\00:13:42.15 to you know, a lot more people. 00:13:42.18\00:13:44.73 Now, recently you had a major effort in Alaska, 00:13:44.76\00:13:50.36 tell us about that? 00:13:50.39\00:13:51.70 One of the things we do with our discover schools, 00:13:51.73\00:13:54.58 like what we did in Alaska is we will go into a conference 00:13:54.61\00:13:58.56 and we will set up a discover school, 00:13:58.59\00:14:00.52 a Bible study ministry in every church in that conference. 00:14:00.55\00:14:03.64 And then we mass mail a Bible study in roma card 00:14:03.67\00:14:07.12 which offers free Bible lessons to the person. 00:14:07.15\00:14:09.77 We mail that to every residence in that entire state. Wow. 00:14:09.80\00:14:13.85 And then we help the church members 00:14:13.88\00:14:15.40 to follow those Bible studies up. 00:14:15.43\00:14:17.23 So like in Alaska the population is just under 800,000 00:14:17.26\00:14:21.61 and there is about 300,000 homes 00:14:21.64\00:14:24.51 and so we mailed a card to every home 00:14:24.54\00:14:27.49 and then we also showed the church members 00:14:27.52\00:14:29.79 how to invite their friends and other people 00:14:29.82\00:14:32.57 to study and then the combination, 00:14:32.60\00:14:35.46 all that combinates into a graduation at the end. 00:14:35.49\00:14:39.80 So in Alaska we have about 2,000 active church members. 00:14:39.83\00:14:43.27 And we ended up with around 00:14:43.30\00:14:44.45 2,500 requests for Bible lessons. 00:14:44.48\00:14:47.69 They followed up. That's great. 00:14:47.72\00:14:49.78 Yeah, in one of our photos here shows 00:14:49.81\00:14:51.96 the group of church members in the Fairbanks 00:14:51.99\00:14:55.01 and also in the North Pole area of Alaska. 00:14:55.04\00:15:00.11 They were following up the Bible study request. 00:15:00.14\00:15:02.76 The North Pole area, I hope there are few. 00:15:02.79\00:15:05.22 Did you go up there? 00:15:05.25\00:15:06.77 Yeah, well, the North Pole 00:15:06.80\00:15:08.47 it's a little community that's near Fairbanks. 00:15:08.50\00:15:12.67 But, I went to the--our most northern city in North America. 00:15:12.70\00:15:18.70 It's called Barrow, Alaska. 00:15:18.73\00:15:20.87 It's a village of about 4,500 people 00:15:20.90\00:15:23.26 I was there February of last year. 00:15:23.29\00:15:26.52 Wrong time of the year. 00:15:26.55\00:15:27.60 Yeah, it was like between 30 and 40 below. 00:15:27.63\00:15:30.54 And I always wondered what it would be like to experience 00:15:30.57\00:15:33.47 those temperatures and I got to find out. 00:15:33.50\00:15:36.60 But in Barrow, our church membership 00:15:36.63\00:15:38.38 again varies between 5 to 10 people 00:15:38.41\00:15:40.92 depending on the time of the year, 00:15:40.95\00:15:42.40 different circumstances there. 00:15:42.43\00:15:44.74 In that village there were 28 people 00:15:44.77\00:15:46.70 that requested free Bible lessons. Wow. 00:15:46.73\00:15:48.66 And I was excited just a few weeks ago 00:15:48.69\00:15:50.60 I received an email from Penny, 00:15:50.63\00:15:53.61 who is the coordinator for the Bible school 00:15:53.64\00:15:56.41 and one of the ladies, one of the families 00:15:56.44\00:15:58.11 have just finished their Bible lessons 00:15:58.14\00:16:00.16 and they were ready to give them their diplomas. 00:16:00.19\00:16:02.83 So that was a great excitement about that. Yeah. 00:16:02.86\00:16:05.53 So 28 people in the village signed up for lessons? 00:16:05.56\00:16:08.72 That's correct. Yes. 00:16:08.75\00:16:11.19 You know in another village that you only reach by areoplane 00:16:11.22\00:16:15.28 is called Togiak and it's near Dillingham, near Bristol Bay. 00:16:15.31\00:16:21.18 In the summer time when it's thawed, 00:16:21.21\00:16:24.19 you can go in by boat otherwise you fly in. 00:16:24.22\00:16:26.89 A village of about 800 people and we have a church there at-- 00:16:26.92\00:16:32.41 when I was there a year ago, 00:16:32.44\00:16:35.32 the man that was Dan Radoff was-- 00:16:35.35\00:16:37.69 is a layman in his 80's he was the lay pastor there 00:16:37.72\00:16:41.47 and he had about 12 to 16 people that would come to the church 00:16:41.50\00:16:46.19 for a small group Bible study on a weekly basis 00:16:46.22\00:16:49.26 and they began to study, 00:16:49.29\00:16:51.45 they went through the discover guides. 00:16:51.48\00:16:52.95 They went through the Daniel in Revelation of course. 00:16:52.98\00:16:55.78 And all of those people graduated 00:16:55.81\00:16:58.35 and four of them made a decision to be baptized. 00:16:58.38\00:17:01.06 Is that right? 00:17:01.09\00:17:02.12 And when we had a graduation in Anchorage, 00:17:02.15\00:17:04.29 they all came in and we gave them their diplomas. 00:17:04.32\00:17:07.12 Heard their stories and then they made their decision 00:17:07.15\00:17:09.60 and were baptized at that meeting. 00:17:09.63\00:17:12.16 Wow, so what sort of impact do you see 00:17:12.19\00:17:15.88 it making on church members who get involved? 00:17:15.91\00:17:18.77 Well, you know, there is no greater joy that comes 00:17:18.80\00:17:21.98 than from inviting someone to make a decision to follow Jesus. 00:17:22.01\00:17:25.84 And so when you share Bible studies with someone 00:17:25.87\00:17:29.05 you know, those promises and those teachings 00:17:29.08\00:17:32.11 that have changed your life. 00:17:32.14\00:17:33.77 You know, really makes a difference 00:17:33.80\00:17:35.51 and so it impacts them dramatically. 00:17:35.54\00:17:37.69 There is an another story of a lady out of Anchorage, 00:17:37.72\00:17:40.68 her name is Jeanette and she had found in her life 00:17:40.71\00:17:43.86 that she had difficulties with drugs and alcohol 00:17:43.89\00:17:46.84 and have a little video clip I would like to show 00:17:46.87\00:17:49.74 of Jeanette sharing what God has done for her in her life. 00:17:49.77\00:17:52.61 Great. Let's watch that now. 00:17:52.64\00:17:54.42 I had addictions and depression. 00:18:02.65\00:18:06.54 I had it for 27 years. 00:18:06.57\00:18:09.76 I walk with the Lord everyday and He is the one who helps me 00:18:12.30\00:18:15.15 to get off the addictions like alcohol and drugs. 00:18:15.18\00:18:18.45 When Reach Alaska picking a project 00:18:18.48\00:18:21.56 for the Alaskan's Seventh-day Adventist churches, 00:18:21.59\00:18:24.00 I asked Jeanette, I said, would you like to study 00:18:24.03\00:18:27.48 the native new day Bible studies, 00:18:27.51\00:18:29.21 and she said, what's that? 00:18:29.24\00:18:31.92 And I told her there were set of Bible studies 00:18:31.95\00:18:33.98 and that they would encourage relationship with Jesus for her 00:18:34.01\00:18:39.40 and she said yeah, I would really like that. 00:18:39.43\00:18:41.81 And so I started sending them to her. 00:18:41.84\00:18:44.27 And she just started really answering them 00:18:44.30\00:18:46.86 getting the answers sheets back to me, 00:18:46.89\00:18:48.28 just back and forth really fast. 00:18:48.31\00:18:50.57 And so, she was all excited about it 00:18:50.60\00:18:54.34 and the Holy Spirit has really 00:18:54.37\00:18:56.74 put those Bible truths in her heart. 00:18:56.77\00:18:59.34 I was lost, I was into the world, I was. 00:18:59.37\00:19:05.69 I'm glad I'm no longer in the world now. 00:19:05.72\00:19:08.73 There is nothing for me out there 00:19:08.76\00:19:10.05 as long as I have the Lord in my heart, I'm happy. 00:19:10.08\00:19:13.59 Our efforts in Alaska culminated 00:19:13.62\00:19:15.58 in a live graduation program from downtown Anchorage, 00:19:15.61\00:19:19.24 where Jeanette and several others were baptized. 00:19:19.27\00:19:22.12 Bible studies are continuing across the state today, 00:19:22.15\00:19:25.63 with many more baptisms and lives changed. 00:19:25.66\00:19:28.30 Amen. 00:19:28.33\00:19:29.51 That's a great story. 00:19:38.41\00:19:39.47 Thanks so much for sharing, Kurt. 00:19:39.50\00:19:41.28 Viewers at home, you can go to biblestudies.org 00:19:41.31\00:19:44.24 to find out more about Bible correspondence lessons. 00:19:44.27\00:19:47.77 King Solomon wrote in the Book of Proverbs, 00:20:21.49\00:20:23.76 that we should train a child in the way he should go 00:20:23.79\00:20:27.29 and when he is old, he will not turn from it. 00:20:27.32\00:20:31.67 For more than a hundred years, 00:20:37.89\00:20:39.54 Adventist education in the country of India 00:20:39.57\00:20:42.22 has been following this advice with great success. 00:20:42.25\00:20:45.85 Across the country our Adventist schools are regarded 00:20:45.88\00:20:49.04 as sources of high quality education. 00:20:49.07\00:20:52.91 But they are also known as centers 00:20:52.94\00:20:55.01 that build strong Christian character. 00:20:55.04\00:20:59.91 These are mission schools. 00:21:04.57\00:21:06.48 The majority of students who attend 00:21:06.51\00:21:08.68 are not Christian when they begin their education. 00:21:08.71\00:21:11.37 One of the oldest Adventist schools in India 00:21:14.88\00:21:17.56 is the James Memorial School. 00:21:17.59\00:21:20.40 If you train up the child in the early age, 00:21:20.43\00:21:23.10 when the life is formed in a very concrete faith. 00:21:23.13\00:21:26.76 And we teach Bible here. 00:21:26.79\00:21:29.82 We teach them stories from the Bible. 00:21:29.85\00:21:33.57 So they are attracted and they will get converted. 00:21:33.60\00:21:37.43 Even the boarding also, every year we used to have baptisms. 00:21:37.46\00:21:41.59 Children accepting Jesus. 00:21:41.62\00:21:43.02 This culture of excellence is attracting families 00:21:47.78\00:21:51.59 who want the very best for their children. 00:21:51.62\00:21:54.41 Now the school is having more than 900 enrollments. 00:22:02.42\00:22:06.69 Actually the facilities what we have at present 00:22:06.72\00:22:09.84 is to accommodate only 5 to 600 students. 00:22:09.87\00:22:14.21 At present we're having more than 300. 00:22:14.24\00:22:17.30 And in the coming years we may get more students. 00:22:17.33\00:22:20.03 So we need classrooms. 00:22:20.06\00:22:23.69 We are going to built 10 classrooms with veranda 00:22:27.14\00:22:32.47 and each classroom will have 20x20 measurement 00:22:32.50\00:22:36.51 and staircase and also both the side 00:22:36.54\00:22:39.69 we will have the toilets and urinals for students to use. 00:22:39.72\00:22:43.54 With your financial support 00:22:45.17\00:22:46.70 of the world budget and mission offerings, 00:22:46.73\00:22:49.18 new class rooms can be constructed on school campuses 00:22:49.21\00:22:52.62 across India like the James Memorial School. 00:22:52.65\00:22:56.16 Thank you for your support of the mission 00:23:00.55\00:23:02.71 of the Seventh-day Adventist church. 00:23:02.74\00:23:05.12 To find out more, please visit
