Hi everybody, what you are about to see is something 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.18 unexpected that happen one Sunday afternoon while I was 00:00:04.21\00:00:07.49 in Illinois making some new Grandma's House programs. 00:00:07.52\00:00:10.77 It was the crew's day off, so we had nothing planned 00:00:10.81\00:00:13.99 for the day, but I got wind there was a Festival of Boats 00:00:14.02\00:00:17.60 and Balloons going on in a little town 00:00:17.64\00:00:19.55 about 70 miles away. 00:00:19.58\00:00:21.50 So I grabbed Brad and Valerie and Tyler and Tiara and 00:00:21.54\00:00:26.29 away we sped to get in on the action. 00:00:26.32\00:00:28.59 And in a minute you are going to see what happened next. 00:00:28.62\00:00:31.94 Right now we are over here at the pond watching 00:00:51.84\00:00:53.34 a cardboard boat race. 00:00:53.37\00:00:55.87 The kids built their boats out of cardboard and plastic 00:00:55.90\00:00:58.77 and duct tape, and it's exciting. 00:00:58.81\00:01:02.45 There they go, oh my. 00:01:02.49\00:01:04.11 Well some of them go down just right way. 00:01:05.55\00:01:07.71 Go, go. Paddle, paddle come on. 00:01:09.80\00:01:13.69 Go, go, go. 00:01:15.46\00:01:17.11 Ought oh! the kid in the green there capsized. 00:01:20.80\00:01:24.12 Go kids! 00:01:30.52\00:01:32.10 (Grandma clapping) 00:01:38.62\00:01:42.16 Come on kids, go, go! 00:01:43.35\00:01:45.70 Yeah he is way out in the lead. 00:01:49.80\00:01:52.01 Look at him he is without a paddle. 00:01:56.40\00:01:59.26 That one's second, good for him. 00:02:00.27\00:02:02.98 Whoa, yeah. 00:02:09.10\00:02:14.99 That guy has fallen behind without a paddle. 00:02:18.78\00:02:21.37 Oh, that one guy is going to make it I think. 00:02:22.98\00:02:24.73 The girl is coming up fast. 00:02:24.76\00:02:26.67 Come on sweetie, catch that boy. 00:02:26.70\00:02:30.46 Yeah, get in there. 00:02:36.47\00:02:38.99 It was really fun to watch those kids trying to float 00:02:50.04\00:02:53.93 their homemade cardboard boats. 00:02:53.97\00:02:56.38 But as soon as that was over, Valerie, the kids and 00:02:56.42\00:02:59.18 I crossed the field to watch the crew's getting their 00:02:59.22\00:03:01.95 balloons ready for the flight. 00:03:01.99\00:03:03.87 Then we found out that one balloon was selling rides to 00:03:34.14\00:03:37.63 anybody who wanted to go and boy did we ever want to go. 00:03:37.67\00:03:41.13 So we bought our tickets and climbed aboard. 00:03:41.17\00:03:43.30 Watch this. 00:03:43.34\00:03:45.38 He who could go to a balloon festival without 00:03:45.99\00:03:47.52 going up in a balloon? 00:03:47.55\00:03:49.24 Tyler and Tiara we're going, come on lets go. 00:03:49.94\00:03:51.85 Whew, here we go. 00:04:00.54\00:04:02.07 Hey, wave to daddy. 00:04:05.37\00:04:06.93 Tiara wave big. 00:04:10.31\00:04:13.08 Finally it was time for the race to begin and oh they 00:04:32.00\00:04:35.97 were all so pretty and I wanted to go so badly. 00:04:36.00\00:04:38.76 So you know me, I actually found two pilots willing to 00:04:38.79\00:04:43.16 take Brad and me up in their balloons. 00:04:43.19\00:04:45.40 Watch this. 00:04:45.43\00:04:47.24 All right, hi kids! 00:04:47.81\00:04:50.38 Oh how fun, that roaring noise you hear once in a while 00:04:52.27\00:04:56.23 is the propane, is that how you power this? 00:04:56.26\00:04:59.13 Yes the burners - that's the burners. 00:04:59.17\00:05:00.75 Oh, this is just too cool. 00:05:06.10\00:05:08.65 Oh this is a fantastic view from up here. 00:05:14.89\00:05:17.73 Whoa. 00:05:18.84\00:05:21.19 This is the view you never get to see down on the ground. 00:05:21.96\00:05:24.21 Hi, Hi down there! 00:05:48.04\00:05:52.21 We are looking at the top part of the balloon and they 00:06:16.15\00:06:19.82 opened it up and to let all the gas out and the wind is 00:06:19.86\00:06:23.50 trying to refill it as we're letting it out. 00:06:23.53\00:06:26.32 We are pulling with all our might, aren't we? 00:06:26.35\00:06:29.07 Sometimes we are making progress, sometimes we're not. 00:06:29.11\00:06:32.94 Can you smell it, can you smell the propane 00:06:35.90\00:06:38.15 when it comes out? Oh there it goes. 00:06:38.19\00:06:41.40 Whoops there comes the wind again. 00:06:41.44\00:06:44.58 We are tying it together so we can fit it back in that bag. 00:06:44.62\00:06:51.56 Back in that little tiny bag. 00:06:51.60\00:06:54.16 They have promised it will fit. 00:06:56.37\00:06:58.78 Oh boy, here it goes. 00:07:09.75\00:07:12.81 Let's put the flap on it and get all the air out of it. 00:07:15.33\00:07:17.08 Watch your hands and don't bang heads. 00:07:21.52\00:07:24.29 Squish it, squish it. 00:07:25.36\00:07:27.91 The balloons are done for the day and it has been 00:07:56.86\00:08:00.25 so much fun, I just wonder if you wouldn't like to write 00:08:00.29\00:08:03.30 to me and tell me what you think about all this? 00:08:03.33\00:08:05.84 I'd love to hear from you, you know I would. 00:08:05.87\00:08:08.31 So get out your paper and your pencil and get ready 00:08:08.34\00:08:10.65 to write down my address, I'm just dying to hear from you. 00:08:10.68\00:08:13.84 Alright, are you ready? Here it is! 00:08:13.88\00:08:16.79 Hey kids Graham Joyce would love to hear from you. 00:08:19.32\00:08:22.35 So why not sit down and write her a letter? 00:08:22.39\00:08:24.96 Like every grandma she loves to get pictures, 00:08:25.00\00:08:27.54 drawings or anything else you send her. 00:08:27.57\00:08:30.54 Just write to: 00:08:30.58\00:08:32.22 So what are you waiting for? Write her today. 00:08:42.92\00:08:46.07 You know, we have traveled around this season by lots 00:08:49.73\00:08:53.79 of different vehicles. 00:08:53.83\00:08:55.52 There were sailboats, a steam train, an antique car, 00:08:55.56\00:08:59.06 we have hiked by foot, ridden in a horse-drawn wagon, 00:08:59.10\00:09:02.86 zoomed in and out over the waves of a jet ski, but 00:09:02.90\00:09:06.35 floating along in the atmosphere, just skipping from 00:09:06.39\00:09:10.07 treetop to treetop has got to be my all-time favorite 00:09:10.10\00:09:13.75 way of getting around. 00:09:13.79\00:09:15.79 You know I don't know if you can tell it, but Brad and 00:09:15.82\00:09:18.84 I got separated during the race. 00:09:18.87\00:09:21.16 The balloon he was in caught a better gust of wind then 00:09:21.19\00:09:24.03 mine did, and off he soared. 00:09:24.06\00:09:26.73 Faster and faster, higher and higher and farther away 00:09:26.77\00:09:30.44 he sailed until we lost sight of each other. 00:09:30.47\00:09:33.85 Towards the end of the race I didn't even know where he 00:09:33.88\00:09:36.71 was, or where he might land. 00:09:36.75\00:09:39.02 Anyway as it was getting dusk, the lead balloon set 00:09:39.05\00:09:43.07 down in a field, and all the others tried to get as close 00:09:43.11\00:09:46.70 to his landing spot as they could. 00:09:46.73\00:09:49.51 Well our pilot could see that other balloons were landing 00:09:49.55\00:09:52.17 closer and sooner than we could. 00:09:52.20\00:09:54.68 So he picked out a nice little pasture for our landing 00:09:54.72\00:09:57.77 site, but when we were just a couple of feet from the 00:09:57.81\00:10:00.89 ground there was a gentle updraft that kept pushing us 00:10:00.92\00:10:03.97 up a little bit while he kept trying to set 00:10:04.00\00:10:06.54 the balloon down gently. 00:10:06.58\00:10:08.91 So, instead of hitting our mark like we planned, 00:10:08.95\00:10:12.28 our balloon bounced up and down and skidded across 00:10:12.31\00:10:15.61 and the field was coming nearer and nearer 00:10:15.64\00:10:19.66 to the end of the field and the beginning of a cemetery 00:10:19.69\00:10:23.98 full of tall headstones and monuments. 00:10:24.01\00:10:27.18 When our pilot realized that he couldn't set the balloon 00:10:27.22\00:10:31.03 down in time he quickly fired up the jets to lift us 00:10:31.06\00:10:34.02 high enough not to hit the trees at the edge of the 00:10:34.06\00:10:37.60 cemetery and to not run into any of the grave markers. 00:10:37.63\00:10:41.14 Eek, we aren't going to make it. 00:10:41.17\00:10:44.32 The ground crew were running around after us as fast as 00:10:44.35\00:10:48.03 they could, trying to grab the ropes and pull us down. 00:10:48.07\00:10:52.03 We in the basket were holding on for dear life and bumping 00:10:52.06\00:10:55.99 along the ruts in the ground. 00:10:56.02\00:10:57.93 Finally, somebody held on tight to the rope and dug in 00:10:57.96\00:11:02.11 his heals so he wouldn't be pulled along too. 00:11:02.15\00:11:05.64 Our basket tipped to one side and hit the dirt, and it 00:11:05.68\00:11:10.17 rolled over spilling out passengers as it went. 00:11:10.20\00:11:12.67 Well, all except for me, I was caught under the bars that 00:11:12.71\00:11:18.25 the fuel tanks were fastened to. 00:11:18.28\00:11:20.38 I had been knocked down to the floor of the basket 00:11:20.42\00:11:23.09 when we tipped and now I was trapped. 00:11:23.12\00:11:26.35 Ah, I thought about the fact that the burners were very 00:11:26.39\00:11:29.87 hot and that we still had lots of propane on board. 00:11:29.90\00:11:33.98 Now the whole thing was on its side and the fuel might 00:11:34.02\00:11:38.06 start leaking. 00:11:38.10\00:11:40.04 Somebody was yelling, we've killed grandma, we've killed 00:11:40.07\00:11:43.29 grandma, while others ran to help me find my way out 00:11:43.32\00:11:46.83 of the basket and through the headstones on the graves. 00:11:46.86\00:11:50.10 Well as soon as my feet were free from the ropes and 00:11:50.13\00:11:53.35 other paraphernalia, I couldn't help but burst into 00:11:53.39\00:11:56.57 laughter at how funny it was. 00:11:56.61\00:11:59.00 I think I'm probably the only grandma in the whole world 00:11:59.03\00:12:03.55 who has crash landed a hot air balloon into a cemetery. 00:12:03.59\00:12:07.03 Ha, ha, it was the best rip snorting good time I've had 00:12:07.06\00:12:11.23 in years, but it sure set me to thinking about following 00:12:11.27\00:12:15.41 Jesus I mean. 00:12:15.44\00:12:16.89 When we first get to know about Him, it's kind of like 00:12:16.92\00:12:19.77 watching the lead balloon lifting off the ground. 00:12:19.81\00:12:22.53 We know Jesus lifted up from the earth and went back to 00:12:22.56\00:12:25.67 heaven soon after He died and rose again. 00:12:25.70\00:12:28.40 He didn't need a hot air balloon to do it either. 00:12:28.44\00:12:31.90 In our imaginations we can picture Him lifting higher 00:12:31.93\00:12:35.36 and higher until He disappears from our sight. 00:12:35.39\00:12:38.73 We love Him so much we want to go where He goes. 00:12:38.76\00:12:42.03 We want to follow Him, so we hopped in our own balloons 00:12:42.06\00:12:45.95 with the best pilot we can find and off we go into the 00:12:45.99\00:12:49.85 wild blue yonder. 00:12:49.88\00:12:51.75 We do our best to keep up with Him but sometimes the winds 00:12:51.79\00:12:55.31 blow us off course, or we can't find just the right 00:12:55.34\00:12:58.57 altitude that will take us in His direction. 00:12:58.61\00:13:01.31 Pretty soon all of us, in our different balloons, are 00:13:01.34\00:13:04.87 separated from Him and each other and are spread out 00:13:04.91\00:13:08.41 all over the sky. 00:13:08.44\00:13:10.31 You know the pilot we've chosen could be a Pastor or a 00:13:10.35\00:13:13.17 teacher who loves Jesus very much and wants to follow 00:13:13.20\00:13:16.80 Him too, and they do their very best to guide us on our 00:13:16.83\00:13:20.49 journey, but they are only human and sometimes they 00:13:20.52\00:13:24.11 make mistakes and our balloons end up somewhere we didn't 00:13:24.14\00:13:27.58 plan on at all. 00:13:27.62\00:13:29.49 Like the cemetery. The only way to be absolutely, 00:13:29.52\00:13:34.11 positively sure you end up where Jesus is, is to get 00:13:34.14\00:13:38.69 into His balloon and let Him be your pilot. 00:13:38.72\00:13:41.79 Then you will win the race every time and always be 00:13:41.82\00:13:44.83 with Him. That is what I want too. 00:13:44.87\00:13:47.89 And I know you want that too, so until the next time 00:13:47.92\00:13:52.49 keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, He is the best pilot 00:13:52.52\00:13:57.06 there is, bye! 00:13:57.09\00:13:59.87
