Proverbs 11:1 states that "A false balance is an abomination 00:00:02.40\00:00:07.14 to the Lord but a just weight is His delight. " 00:00:07.34\00:00:10.64 Jesus Himself confirms this in speaking to the Pharisees 00:00:11.24\00:00:15.21 when He says in Luke 11:42: 00:00:15.41\00:00:17.71 "But woe unto you Pharisees for ye tithe mint and rue 00:00:18.18\00:00:22.68 and all manner of herbs and pass over judgment 00:00:22.88\00:00:25.55 and the love of God. These ought ye to have done 00:00:25.75\00:00:28.59 and not to leave the other undone. " 00:00:28.79\00:00:32.09 A balanced life is important to God. 00:00:32.49\00:00:35.43 Hello friends, and welcome to From Sickness To Health. 00:00:35.63\00:00:38.30 I'm your host Rico Hill and this is our co-host Sickness. 00:00:38.70\00:00:44.21 Man, I've got to give it to you. I love that text about 00:00:44.67\00:00:47.71 the Pharisees. You like that? Wow! That's awesome because 00:00:47.91\00:00:51.55 you usually don't agree with much... certainly not 00:00:51.75\00:00:54.58 the scriptures. But man... my friends the Pharisees. 00:00:54.78\00:00:58.12 Those people were some of the sickest people I've ever 00:00:58.52\00:01:01.69 heard of. Wait a minute, what do you mean? 00:01:01.89\00:01:03.76 I mean, think about it: they thought they were balanced 00:01:03.96\00:01:06.70 but in reality they were the most unbalanced 00:01:06.90\00:01:09.86 people on the earth. That leads to sickness 00:01:10.07\00:01:12.43 and some serious ills. I still don't quite get it. 00:01:12.63\00:01:16.24 OK... let me explain. When people are off balance 00:01:16.64\00:01:19.84 whether it be in diet, family, work, 00:01:20.04\00:01:24.25 even religion it can lead to some bad things. 00:01:24.45\00:01:28.52 I mean, it's like people are in this car going down a hill 00:01:28.72\00:01:32.25 with no brakes and they don't even know 00:01:32.45\00:01:35.52 they're in a car. Whoo! That is profound! 00:01:35.72\00:01:40.33 Thank you. Wow! So for instance with you, 00:01:40.53\00:01:44.17 would you consider yourself a balanced individual? 00:01:44.37\00:01:47.24 Do I look unbalanced? 00:01:47.64\00:01:50.37 Well our program today is on living a balanced life. 00:01:52.31\00:01:56.44 Stick around. Roll it! 00:01:56.64\00:01:58.65 Do you think I'm unbalanced? 00:01:59.45\00:02:01.48 I am one of the most balanced people I know! 00:02:03.18\00:02:07.02 Thank you for joining us here in the studio of 00:02:47.00\00:02:49.53 From Sickness To Health. 00:02:49.73\00:02:51.07 We are going to be talking about a topic that I'm sure 00:02:51.27\00:02:53.77 you're going to enjoy because we want to see you 00:02:53.97\00:02:56.91 have balance. We want to talk about balance today. 00:02:57.11\00:03:01.01 Well, let's turn to one of the most balance people I know 00:03:01.21\00:03:06.28 according to him. It's Sickness. Let's say hello to him. 00:03:06.48\00:03:09.05 Hey hey! Hey I'm down here at the fitness center. 00:03:10.09\00:03:12.99 You'd be proud of me. I'm trying to live a balanced life 00:03:13.19\00:03:15.66 donating my time here at the club for some 00:03:15.86\00:03:19.13 Start Smoking seminars. 00:03:19.33\00:03:21.10 Did you say start smoking? 00:03:21.30\00:03:22.66 Oh yeah! It's going to be a great day! 00:03:22.96\00:03:24.60 All right... OK. We'll talk to you some more. 00:03:24.80\00:03:26.37 I know you're going to be heading to a laboratory 00:03:26.57\00:03:28.20 and we'll talk to you remotely there. 00:03:28.50\00:03:30.67 Well let's introduce our distinguished guests today. 00:03:30.87\00:03:33.78 It's again couples day here at From Sickness To Health. 00:03:33.98\00:03:37.45 We can't find any sickness in that, can we? That's right! 00:03:37.65\00:03:40.62 Dr. Thomas Jackson is with us. He is a doctor of 00:03:40.92\00:03:43.59 natural health sciences. 00:03:43.79\00:03:45.12 He's here with his lovely wife who is a doctor of nutritional 00:03:45.32\00:03:48.46 sciences. And they are a team in health. Amen? 00:03:48.66\00:03:53.09 Welcome to the program. Thank you very much. 00:03:53.29\00:03:55.06 Glad you're here. And we're not going to stop there. 00:03:55.26\00:03:57.27 We also have joining us once again on the program 00:03:57.47\00:03:59.33 these individuals: Reidland Bredy and his lovely wife 00:04:00.30\00:04:03.27 Sherry-Lynne Bredy. And they are together a health team also. 00:04:03.47\00:04:06.37 He's a physical therapist; she is an occupational therapist. 00:04:06.78\00:04:09.84 So we like to come from different angles. 00:04:10.05\00:04:11.71 Welcome to the program. Thank you very much, Rico. 00:04:11.91\00:04:14.12 Now... we're going to talk about balance. 00:04:14.32\00:04:15.65 You all look pretty balanced to me! 00:04:15.85\00:04:17.35 Aah... looks might be deceiving. Yeah... about that? 00:04:17.55\00:04:20.59 We've got balanced couples, but what's going on internally? 00:04:23.49\00:04:26.76 Balanced couples? 'Cause I looked here and I see 00:04:27.16\00:04:29.66 balanced couples, and that seems good to me. 00:04:29.86\00:04:32.27 That feels right for this topic. That's right... yeah! 00:04:32.47\00:04:34.57 So before we get into it - and we're going to talk about, 00:04:34.77\00:04:37.37 you know, our own personal struggle to stay balanced. 00:04:37.57\00:04:40.38 Because in ministry and in health work 00:04:40.58\00:04:42.71 there's a lot of work to do. Is that right? 00:04:42.91\00:04:44.55 That's right... that's correct. There's a lot of requirements 00:04:44.75\00:04:48.15 and just commitment and just pulling on your time. 00:04:48.55\00:04:51.25 People are constantly calling you; 00:04:51.45\00:04:52.79 you're dealing with people who are sick. 00:04:52.82\00:04:54.16 It can really really just drive you into the ground 00:04:54.56\00:04:59.03 if you're not careful. Amen! So we want to talk about it 00:04:59.23\00:05:02.03 'cause everyone struggles with this. That's right. 00:05:02.23\00:05:04.00 But before we get into our discussion - and it's going to 00:05:04.20\00:05:05.87 be a lively one - let's check in with Sickness. 00:05:06.07\00:05:08.64 I think he's in a laboratory somewhere. 00:05:08.84\00:05:10.67 Sickness, where are you? 00:05:10.87\00:05:12.21 Hi Rico! I'm here with my trusty lab assistant, 00:05:12.84\00:05:16.78 my good friend Wilber... whom I just met. 00:05:16.98\00:05:18.71 And today we've been studying, both Wallace and I, 00:05:18.91\00:05:21.65 the word fallacy. Perhaps you haven't heard of it before. 00:05:21.85\00:05:24.59 A fallacy is a false notion... 00:05:24.79\00:05:27.62 a belief that is misleading or unsound. 00:05:27.82\00:05:31.09 Now in our discussion on balance 00:05:31.29\00:05:33.93 I think we've been a little unbalanced. 00:05:34.13\00:05:37.33 You see, according to your logic we have to have something 00:05:37.53\00:05:40.24 over here with something over here 00:05:40.44\00:05:42.97 to keep it balanced. You know, like light and dark. 00:05:43.17\00:05:45.87 Hot and cold. Yin and yang. You know what I'm talking about. 00:05:46.07\00:05:48.64 In the universe there are laws of balance 00:05:49.08\00:05:52.25 and today we are going to demonstrate this. 00:05:52.45\00:05:55.62 OK... me and my friend Walter. Now Walter looks like 00:05:56.02\00:06:00.02 a pretty balanced individual. Are you pretty balanced, Walter? 00:06:00.22\00:06:03.02 Yes, I do pride myself on being a very balanced individual. 00:06:03.22\00:06:07.53 OK! Now you probably eat stuff like this. Oh yes! 00:06:07.73\00:06:11.43 You see, these are so good and they help... Excellent. 00:06:11.63\00:06:14.37 Now we're going to become balanced, and with balance... 00:06:14.57\00:06:17.74 Do you smoke? Well no, you see smoking is... Now you do! 00:06:17.94\00:06:21.64 You see, it's all about balance. 00:06:21.84\00:06:23.41 Do you eat sugar? Well no! You're going to need some sugar 00:06:23.81\00:06:27.12 to give you a little energy in life. 00:06:27.32\00:06:28.65 Now looking at you I would ask: where do you get your protein? 00:06:28.85\00:06:32.55 You get it from red meat. That's where you get it. 00:06:32.95\00:06:35.69 Now life sometimes needs to be enjoyed and that's where you're 00:06:36.09\00:06:39.63 gonna want some ice cream. 00:06:39.83\00:06:41.26 And for those parties of your life you're going to need 00:06:41.66\00:06:43.90 some alcohol. Stay balanced. 00:06:44.10\00:06:46.03 And hey, how about... Ooh... you cannot start your day 00:06:46.43\00:06:50.14 without a nice, hot cup of coffee! 00:06:50.44\00:06:53.78 There you are. Wow! 00:06:53.98\00:06:57.45 Look at this balanced individual... Wilfred. 00:06:57.65\00:07:01.98 Whoo! I can almost see a tear in your eye 00:07:02.38\00:07:05.92 from all of that balance. 00:07:06.12\00:07:08.32 Wow! This is wonderful. Clearly my friend Larry and I 00:07:08.52\00:07:12.19 are very balanced. Back to you, Rico. 00:07:12.39\00:07:15.33 Well, Sickness, I don't know if you've made your point 00:07:18.17\00:07:20.04 but you've made somebody unhappy there. 00:07:20.24\00:07:22.84 Now is this the kind of balance we're talking about? 00:07:23.24\00:07:25.84 I don't know. Let's turn to our panel 00:07:26.24\00:07:28.21 and let's talk about this. Balance: what are we talking 00:07:28.41\00:07:31.38 about when we talk about balance? God is a God of 00:07:31.58\00:07:33.25 balance - that's right - and He wants us to be balanced. 00:07:33.45\00:07:36.18 When we look at so many different things... 00:07:36.38\00:07:38.65 The body needs to be a certain way and there's balances. 00:07:38.85\00:07:41.76 There's something we call homeostasis, right? 00:07:41.96\00:07:44.73 That's when the body is in balance and it is healthy. 00:07:44.93\00:07:48.40 And usually we find that this type of homeostasis 00:07:48.60\00:07:52.67 is when the body is more alkaline. Yes. 00:07:52.87\00:07:54.97 But there is a balance. Some foods are alkaline, 00:07:55.17\00:07:57.01 some are acidic... and you have to have the right balance. 00:07:57.21\00:08:00.31 We can't get into the details of that, but it's an example 00:08:00.51\00:08:03.18 of what we're talking about. Um-hmm. That's right. 00:08:03.38\00:08:04.71 There's work/life balance. 00:08:04.81\00:08:06.58 How do you manage your time? How do you remain 00:08:06.78\00:08:10.75 temperate in all things? 00:08:10.95\00:08:12.62 Now we've covered that in another program 00:08:12.82\00:08:14.46 as it pertained to like wine and things like that. 00:08:14.66\00:08:17.19 But now we're talking about how do we get temperate 00:08:17.39\00:08:20.06 in just how we live our lives? 00:08:20.26\00:08:22.33 Would you say that? That's a good question. 00:08:22.53\00:08:24.83 Are we temperate? Are we balanced? 00:08:25.03\00:08:28.67 We're striving for it. 00:08:28.87\00:08:30.47 Busy lives! Busy lives, yes. We're still a work in progress. 00:08:31.71\00:08:34.61 OK... yes it is! At least in the case of my wife and I 00:08:34.81\00:08:39.28 I'll give a very basic simple example. 00:08:39.48\00:08:42.22 Probably about 3 or 4 or 5 years ago - 00:08:42.88\00:08:46.05 let's say 5 years ago at the most - I really started 00:08:46.25\00:08:48.12 getting into golf. And my wife can attest to this because 00:08:48.32\00:08:51.23 I was living, breathing, eating, sleeping golf. 00:08:51.43\00:08:55.86 You were... imbalanced. Yeah! 00:08:56.06\00:08:58.27 Oh, but you didn't think so. I didn't think so! 00:08:58.67\00:09:00.90 I want to get better at this; I want to keep this up. 00:09:01.10\00:09:03.51 And, of course... How many days a week were you playing? 00:09:03.91\00:09:06.41 Oh... How many days a week was he playing? 00:09:06.61\00:09:10.78 Too many! Too many. 00:09:10.98\00:09:12.51 So... yeah, let's just go through that. OK. 00:09:12.71\00:09:15.32 It was a hefty investment. 00:09:15.52\00:09:18.39 So anyways, she would tell me that, of course, I'm spending 00:09:18.59\00:09:22.92 too much time on the golf... And I'm: "No, I want to get 00:09:23.12\00:09:24.93 better. I want to be better at this and blah, blah, blah. " 00:09:25.13\00:09:27.93 All the excuses I could come up with. 00:09:28.13\00:09:29.90 And over the course of time I started to realize that 00:09:30.10\00:09:33.23 it too precedence over my relationship with my wife, 00:09:33.44\00:09:37.24 with Sherry. And something... Finally I opened my eyes 00:09:37.44\00:09:41.11 and I realized that and started taking strides to 00:09:41.31\00:09:44.18 not be so focused on golf... golf only. Um-hmm. 00:09:44.38\00:09:48.88 In addition, work pressure started getting in, so I wasn't 00:09:49.08\00:09:51.95 able to get out as much. And that actually helped me 00:09:52.15\00:09:54.32 too. Now golf is something I enjoy once in a while. 00:09:54.52\00:09:58.06 I still think about it, but it's not as obsessive 00:09:58.26\00:10:01.23 as... Yeah, he's gotten better. Thank you. 00:10:01.43\00:10:03.87 Amen! How about the Jacksons over here? 00:10:04.07\00:10:06.80 Now you have to know that the Jacksons... they are a very busy 00:10:07.00\00:10:11.14 ministry couple. They are holding down 00:10:11.34\00:10:14.71 a little ministry... a big ministry really... 00:10:14.91\00:10:17.48 that's doing gospel medical missionary training. 00:10:17.68\00:10:20.62 It's a school down there in Huntingdon, Tennessee, 00:10:20.82\00:10:22.65 and they travel the world around giving seminars, presentations, 00:10:22.85\00:10:26.62 and also bringing in health guests, right? That's right. 00:10:26.82\00:10:29.66 So talk to us about that. How do you have balance? 00:10:29.86\00:10:32.76 One of the things, too, especially when you're 00:10:33.16\00:10:34.50 mentioning ministry, the greatest challenge is that 00:10:34.56\00:10:37.33 when you're in ministry seeing the impact that you're having 00:10:37.53\00:10:41.47 on people's lives: that drives you. 00:10:41.67\00:10:45.01 It does. It drives you. It's a good thing. 00:10:45.21\00:10:48.21 And this is where the great challenge comes in our lives. 00:10:48.41\00:10:50.85 That we... and as probably in your life... as we see people 00:10:51.05\00:10:55.48 connecting with the gospel, receiving these precious truths, 00:10:55.68\00:10:59.55 etc. and accepting Jesus Christ you just go for it. 00:10:59.75\00:11:03.29 Now my challenge is: I carry over from an athletic type of 00:11:03.49\00:11:08.16 disposition of competitiveness and drive. 00:11:08.36\00:11:13.84 My wife is sort of different... she's steady. 00:11:14.04\00:11:16.54 But I was trained to operate on adrenaline. 00:11:16.94\00:11:20.14 And so when I became a Christian I had a passion for the work 00:11:20.54\00:11:25.21 but I was operating not on this athletic adrenaline 00:11:25.41\00:11:28.38 but I was operating on spiritual adrenaline. 00:11:28.58\00:11:30.49 And so to make a long story short, it's been a year today 00:11:30.69\00:11:33.86 that in my close to 40 years of ministry... Those who know me 00:11:34.06\00:11:38.49 I've never been really physically sick. 00:11:38.69\00:11:40.70 Common cold, etc. every now and then. Every now and then. 00:11:42.06\00:11:45.10 I mean nothing serious, you know. But last year about this 00:11:45.30\00:11:49.17 time I dropped from 185 down to almost 150. 00:11:49.50\00:11:54.61 Heart palpitations. Now that's important to understand 00:11:54.81\00:11:58.61 because you're a 6' 6" indi- vidual. I'm 6' 6". I always said 00:11:58.81\00:12:01.38 "I'm 6' 6". I can carry about 180 on my slim frame. " 00:12:01.58\00:12:04.52 Sometimes 185. But I dropped... which I don't have that much 00:12:04.72\00:12:07.46 to drop you see. Heart palpitations. 00:12:07.66\00:12:10.99 We find: loose bowels, dry mouth, 00:12:11.29\00:12:15.16 nervousness, anxiety and etc. 00:12:16.56\00:12:19.47 And that was not a gradual drop. That was like one day he was 00:12:19.67\00:12:24.74 his normal weight; next day we could feel here 00:12:24.94\00:12:28.58 and you could just feel the bones. You could see the ribs. 00:12:28.78\00:12:30.35 The face sucked in and etc. And my wife had to massage me 00:12:30.65\00:12:34.55 before I go to sleep. And we're out of the country 00:12:34.75\00:12:37.79 and I'm giving meetings. I'm holding on to the rostrum 00:12:37.99\00:12:41.19 while I'm teaching. And as people continue to bombard me 00:12:41.39\00:12:43.96 you know, there's a demand. Every time you go out 00:12:44.16\00:12:46.46 and you bless people more doors open. 00:12:46.66\00:12:48.46 So you cannot say no doing a good thing. 00:12:48.66\00:12:51.93 Rico, I'd like to comment on that if I could. 00:12:52.13\00:12:54.44 Um-hmm. Sickness. Sickness... right. 00:12:54.84\00:12:57.31 OK. I just want to encourage Dr. Jackson: 00:12:57.51\00:13:00.91 don't give up. You can't say no to people. 00:13:01.11\00:13:04.51 I mean, here's my motto: Push life to the limit. 00:13:04.71\00:13:07.82 Keep going, going, going until you're sick 00:13:08.02\00:13:10.59 and then the hospital or your own bed will allow you to relax 00:13:10.79\00:13:14.06 or hey, maybe you'll die. But hey! 00:13:14.26\00:13:15.82 You guys are OK with that, right? 00:13:16.02\00:13:18.06 Now we're going to completely disregard what he said. 00:13:18.26\00:13:21.20 You know, he tricked us. I thought he was going somewhere 00:13:21.40\00:13:24.80 positive but he said "get on your death bed. " 00:13:25.00\00:13:27.14 That's right. That's when we had to tune him out, right? 00:13:27.34\00:13:28.94 And not only do we... "Just keep pushing. " 00:13:29.14\00:13:31.37 You have to tune him out as well. 00:13:31.57\00:13:33.14 Keep pushing till you're on your death bed. 00:13:33.34\00:13:34.68 And a lot of people do that, though. They drive. 00:13:34.81\00:13:37.48 Sounds like you had something like adrenal fatigue. 00:13:37.68\00:13:39.81 That's right. Make a long story short 00:13:40.02\00:13:41.35 I discovered that my adrenal glands were exhausted... 00:13:41.38\00:13:45.69 was becoming exhausted. That affected my thyroid. 00:13:45.89\00:13:49.52 That produced hyper thyroidism. 00:13:49.72\00:13:52.43 Never experienced that in my life. Um-hmm. Never! 00:13:52.63\00:13:55.03 And so... Hypo? Hyper! Not hypo. 00:13:55.23\00:13:59.50 Over active, and the weight loss and all the other symptoms 00:13:59.70\00:14:04.11 that I was experiencing. 00:14:04.31\00:14:06.31 And just to cut this short, I will share with you probably 00:14:06.51\00:14:11.91 my experience about a computer I had. 00:14:12.11\00:14:15.22 It malfunctioned. God brought me back to this. 00:14:15.42\00:14:17.49 It malfunctioned, so I connected with the technician. 00:14:17.65\00:14:20.62 And we are in the country, in the woods. 00:14:20.82\00:14:23.53 And as I connected with the technician 00:14:23.73\00:14:25.89 he told me to push a button. 00:14:26.09\00:14:27.43 And I tried to explain to him what's going on. 00:14:27.50\00:14:29.80 He said: "Push a button; take your hands off the computer. " 00:14:30.00\00:14:32.23 So I took my hands off the computer. 00:14:32.43\00:14:33.87 So the cursor was moving, so now he's controlling my 00:14:34.07\00:14:36.60 computer, as some of us might know out there in the audience. 00:14:36.81\00:14:39.27 And so he eventually fixed my computer. 00:14:39.67\00:14:41.74 So I asked the technician. I said: "You know, let me ask 00:14:42.14\00:14:44.68 you a question. " I assumed that he was probably maybe 00:14:44.88\00:14:48.28 in another city which is 35 miles from us - Jackson - 00:14:48.48\00:14:52.25 'cause we're in the woods. I said: "Where are you located? " 00:14:52.45\00:14:54.66 He said: "I'm in the Philippines. " 00:14:55.06\00:14:56.79 Wow! So he was controlling my computer in the Philippines. 00:14:56.99\00:15:00.50 Now when I finished that, God downloaded... I believe 00:15:00.70\00:15:03.20 the Spirit of God spoke to me. He said: "You know, let me give 00:15:03.40\00:15:05.57 you a lesson here. " And He was preparing me 00:15:05.77\00:15:08.34 for this experience. He said: "As you connected 00:15:08.54\00:15:10.61 with that technician, that's what I want you to do with Me. " 00:15:10.81\00:15:12.91 And He says: "Now, I want you also as the technician told you 00:15:13.11\00:15:17.11 take your hands off your ministry 00:15:17.31\00:15:19.88 and off your life and I will fix it. " 00:15:20.08\00:15:22.28 Wow! And so one of the things that goes together with balance 00:15:22.48\00:15:25.85 is that we want to be in control - 00:15:26.05\00:15:28.19 um-hmm - and that everything is priorities. 00:15:28.39\00:15:30.76 And so when you're doing a good thing that every time someone 00:15:30.96\00:15:33.86 asks for you to come you jump on an airplane. 00:15:34.06\00:15:36.36 Eighty percent of our lives on an airplane. 00:15:36.56\00:15:38.47 We have a wonderful team... but it's on the airplane. 00:15:38.67\00:15:41.00 And as you know, Rico, not only giving these presentations 00:15:41.20\00:15:44.11 but you're talking about counseling people, 00:15:44.31\00:15:46.04 you're talking about coaching. Um-hmm. 00:15:46.24\00:15:47.71 I mean, that's draining. We're talking about 38 years. 00:15:48.11\00:15:51.51 So here's my final point. See, in Galatians chapter 6 00:15:51.71\00:15:54.45 verses 7 and 8 the Bible says you reap what you sow. 00:15:54.65\00:15:58.05 OK? That's a principle. However, the reaping is not 00:15:58.25\00:16:01.52 immediately. That's the second thing. 00:16:01.72\00:16:04.46 And the third thing is that the reaping is greater 00:16:04.66\00:16:07.93 than the sowing. Than the sowing. Um-hmm. 00:16:08.13\00:16:09.46 So I've been sowing intemperance in my work ethics. 00:16:09.50\00:16:13.47 Doing a good thing and then it affected me 00:16:13.67\00:16:16.81 to the point I almost lost my life. 00:16:17.01\00:16:19.51 I sit here on this program by God's grace 00:16:19.71\00:16:22.71 because I took my hands off the ministry. 00:16:22.91\00:16:26.45 I set priorities and as I was sharing here, my sister here, 00:16:26.65\00:16:31.69 that priorities... this is where faith's gotta come in. 00:16:31.89\00:16:35.02 I've got to trust God with the things that He's given me 00:16:35.22\00:16:38.49 and don't believe that I have to be doing everything. 00:16:38.69\00:16:41.20 Like nobody else can do it. That's right. 00:16:41.40\00:16:43.00 Then I understand what is God's will. 00:16:43.26\00:16:45.33 And the fact is, if I let this go something else is not 00:16:45.73\00:16:49.70 going to happen. But God said it's not 00:16:49.90\00:16:52.34 any man's way to direct his steps - um-hmm - 00:16:52.54\00:16:54.58 for the end thereof is death. 00:16:54.78\00:16:56.28 So God said: "Let Me direct your steps. " 00:16:56.68\00:16:58.88 So I have three priorities in my life. 00:16:59.48\00:17:01.98 God is my first priority. 00:17:02.95\00:17:04.45 Be sure that I'm in His will. My second priority 00:17:04.65\00:17:07.66 is the family. The third priority is work. 00:17:07.86\00:17:10.33 That's the priorities. Got to have your priorities straight. 00:17:10.73\00:17:12.59 Exactly. I know you have some points 00:17:12.79\00:17:14.96 and then you may even want to comment on that 00:17:15.16\00:17:16.50 because you were going through it with him. 00:17:16.53\00:17:18.07 But let's see how... let's see how this particular newsclip 00:17:18.27\00:17:22.84 shows us the same thing that he's talking about. 00:17:23.04\00:17:25.14 People not really able to juggle their life, their work 00:17:25.34\00:17:29.18 and life balance. Let's take a look. 00:17:29.38\00:17:31.11 Striking a balance between work and family 00:17:33.11\00:17:35.62 is a work in progress for Julie Lester. 00:17:35.82\00:17:38.09 I'm going to have to actually go and pick up my kids. 00:17:38.29\00:17:40.39 Juggling her full-time job the mother of two 00:17:40.79\00:17:43.56 sometimes wishes she could spend more time at home 00:17:43.76\00:17:46.39 with her young children. How was school? 00:17:46.59\00:17:48.56 But Julie says for her and her husband David 00:17:48.76\00:17:51.30 financially it's just not doable in Washington, D.C. 00:17:51.50\00:17:55.04 The cost of living every- where seems to be going up 00:17:55.24\00:17:57.64 and people's salaries are not necessarily coinciding with 00:17:57.84\00:18:00.88 that rise. So it's driving more 00:18:01.08\00:18:04.71 people into the workforce. 00:18:04.91\00:18:06.41 The Lesters are part of a growing tend. 00:18:06.61\00:18:08.78 A new Pew Research Center poll found rapid changes 00:18:08.98\00:18:12.05 in the last few years. In 2007, 21% of working mothers 00:18:12.25\00:18:16.83 wanted to work full time. 00:18:17.03\00:18:18.46 Now it's jumped to 37%, 00:18:18.66\00:18:21.56 researchers say due in large part to the recession 00:18:21.76\00:18:24.90 and financial insecurity. 00:18:25.10\00:18:26.80 The women who were the most likely to say they wanted 00:18:27.00\00:18:29.40 to work full time were some of the most economically 00:18:29.60\00:18:32.21 vulnerable. The survey also found 00:18:32.41\00:18:34.44 workplace priorities are different for men and women. 00:18:34.64\00:18:37.48 Men value the high-paying jobs 00:18:37.88\00:18:40.08 while a flexible schedule ranks higher for women. 00:18:40.28\00:18:43.05 But finding that flexible schedule may be more difficult. 00:18:43.45\00:18:46.86 We hear from the newsclip and also from the testimony that 00:18:47.06\00:18:51.43 Dr. Jackson just shared with us 00:18:51.63\00:18:53.33 you've gotta have priorities. 00:18:53.53\00:18:55.30 Priority #1 is relationship with yourself and God. 00:18:55.50\00:18:58.87 Allowing Him to take full control 00:18:59.07\00:19:01.50 and to be the driver. That's right. 00:19:01.70\00:19:04.37 Number two: family. 00:19:04.57\00:19:05.91 You saw here in the clip that it was important for this woman 00:19:06.01\00:19:09.58 that she care for her family. 00:19:09.78\00:19:11.38 But sometimes we have that even before God. 00:19:11.58\00:19:15.55 That's right. And that will cause some major issues. 00:19:15.75\00:19:18.59 And third: then comes the work. Then comes the work. 00:19:18.79\00:19:21.89 That's the balance. That's a wonderful perspective 00:19:22.09\00:19:25.06 on how to balance this thing out. 00:19:25.26\00:19:26.90 Now when he was going through this, how were you doing? 00:19:27.10\00:19:29.03 I was mentally fatigued. 00:19:30.53\00:19:34.74 I was stressed, I was stressed because 00:19:34.94\00:19:37.94 I saw him losing. 00:19:38.24\00:19:42.31 I thought I was getting ready to be a widow. 00:19:42.51\00:19:44.95 Wow! It was that serious? It was serious. 00:19:45.15\00:19:47.58 Wow! But I prayed and asked God to give me strength 00:19:47.88\00:19:52.19 to be able to do what needed to be done. 00:19:52.39\00:19:54.62 Because, see, I saw what was getting ready to happen 00:19:55.12\00:19:58.86 to us there, and I said: "Let's go home. " 00:19:59.06\00:20:01.76 He said: "No, we have all these souls here 00:20:02.16\00:20:04.80 and we've gotta do it! " He's to drive. 00:20:05.00\00:20:07.77 And I said: "Let's go. " 00:20:07.97\00:20:11.04 Because I would rather have him than all of those other souls 00:20:11.24\00:20:15.01 because I know if he's gone then it's going to be 00:20:15.21\00:20:18.01 a different story. Umm. 00:20:18.21\00:20:19.55 Who will be out there impacting the world 00:20:19.68\00:20:21.65 in the way that you do? Somebody else will. 00:20:21.85\00:20:24.55 There was a point that God revealed to me. He says that, 00:20:24.75\00:20:27.29 you know, "You're going to rob Me of My glory. " 00:20:27.49\00:20:32.13 And then He gave me some examples of other 00:20:32.33\00:20:35.26 servants of His that went prematurely to their grave. 00:20:35.46\00:20:38.93 He reminded me of those individuals. 00:20:39.33\00:20:42.10 And the fact is is that at the expense of losing your soul 00:20:42.50\00:20:46.64 trying to help others... So we've got to have a balance. 00:20:46.84\00:20:49.81 Do we stop ministry? No. But we have to bring in balance. 00:20:50.01\00:20:52.68 So today I say: "Thank you, Lord! 00:20:52.98\00:20:55.98 Therefore, I'm not in control... You're in control. " Sure. 00:20:56.18\00:20:58.99 So every demand, every request doesn't mean I have to respond. 00:20:59.19\00:21:03.06 The apostle Paul... there were times the Holy Spirit had to 00:21:03.26\00:21:05.69 tell Paul. Said: "No... you don't go there. " 00:21:05.89\00:21:07.93 So God has to download. That's where that trust 00:21:08.23\00:21:11.27 relationship comes in. God has to be the governing 00:21:11.47\00:21:13.74 and driving force in our lives, and we've got to trust. 00:21:13.94\00:21:16.60 We've been having memory texts. God said, you know: "I will keep 00:21:16.81\00:21:19.67 My saints' feet from being taken. 00:21:19.87\00:21:22.64 I will be your confidence. I will preserve the path 00:21:22.84\00:21:27.32 for My children. " And so the Word of God 00:21:27.52\00:21:29.48 has become real in my life and I know that He's in control. 00:21:29.68\00:21:31.95 Amen... amen. So... have you had any situation 00:21:32.35\00:21:35.76 like this ever? Of course! 00:21:35.96\00:21:38.19 Now, now, I want to throw this to you all 00:21:38.39\00:21:40.96 because, you know, a principle that is played out in the Word 00:21:41.16\00:21:45.53 of God says that: "God is not a respecter of persons. " 00:21:45.73\00:21:48.70 He's not a respecter of persons. In other words, 00:21:48.90\00:21:50.84 He will deal with everyone the same. That's right! 00:21:51.04\00:21:53.84 The rain falls on the just and the unjust - that's right - 00:21:54.04\00:21:56.18 right? So He doesn't look at the person who's in ministry 00:21:56.38\00:22:01.25 or in the health work and say: "Well you're doin' My work 00:22:01.45\00:22:05.59 so therefore you're excluded or you're exempt from this law - 00:22:05.79\00:22:10.63 that's right - of balance, right? That's correct. 00:22:10.83\00:22:13.36 So talk to me. As healthcare providers, as a physical 00:22:13.56\00:22:16.13 therapist, an occupational therapist, what have you found 00:22:16.33\00:22:20.20 in your work that makes this principle true? 00:22:20.40\00:22:23.81 Well there is a lot of balance, especially with our kind of 00:22:24.21\00:22:27.68 patients we see all the time. We need emotional and physical 00:22:27.88\00:22:33.11 and mental balance when we're at work. 00:22:33.31\00:22:35.88 And sometimes, at least with my population of people 00:22:36.08\00:22:40.22 who are neurologically impaired, they suck the life out of me 00:22:40.42\00:22:43.26 because there's so much cogni- tive involvement that there is. 00:22:43.46\00:22:46.76 So by the time I get home and we're trying to do things 00:22:46.96\00:22:49.26 or work in a ministry I'm already wasted. 00:22:49.46\00:22:52.13 Yes. I'm already wasted. And when you say wasted 00:22:52.33\00:22:54.54 you mean that you're just tired. I'm dying! 00:22:54.74\00:22:57.04 All my energy is just gone, and it does affect the relationship. 00:22:57.24\00:23:01.11 It affects the relationship for family and for the people 00:23:01.31\00:23:03.95 that we are ministering outside of work 00:23:04.15\00:23:06.08 besides the ones inside of work. 00:23:06.28\00:23:08.12 See, what is happens is that... What Reidland I have done is 00:23:08.32\00:23:10.85 really focus on what you said: basing God first. 00:23:11.05\00:23:14.06 We have worship first; we spend time with God first. 00:23:14.26\00:23:17.43 We memorize scripture together. Yes. 00:23:17.63\00:23:20.23 So what we do is, you know, we cast all our burdens 00:23:20.43\00:23:25.17 upon Him, and He will take care of us so that we can take care 00:23:25.37\00:23:28.70 of others. Oh, that's beautiful! Beautiful point. 00:23:28.90\00:23:31.61 Very important. Casting our cares upon Him 00:23:31.81\00:23:34.04 so that we can take care of others. 00:23:34.24\00:23:36.41 I like that... I like that. That is something to take 00:23:36.61\00:23:38.65 to the bank. What Reidland said is that one thing we have done 00:23:38.85\00:23:40.42 is that we started with some friends of ours an "I Recite 00:23:40.62\00:23:43.18 Group" which is a Bible memorization group. 00:23:43.39\00:23:45.69 And we meet up once a month and we recite. We memorize 00:23:45.89\00:23:49.29 throughout that month different passages. 00:23:49.49\00:23:51.09 And that has become a huge foundation for us 00:23:51.29\00:23:53.96 to keep us solid on the Word and trusting God 00:23:54.16\00:23:58.10 so that we can continue the work that He has given us. 00:23:58.50\00:24:01.54 Wonderful! Now, we just have a few moments left 00:24:01.74\00:24:04.44 but... Healthy now? You're back? What? 90%? 95%? 00:24:04.64\00:24:08.28 I would say 98. 98... that's a good number! 00:24:08.48\00:24:12.21 That's a good number. You're 98% better. 00:24:12.41\00:24:15.48 She's happy hubby is home 00:24:15.68\00:24:17.99 and about to take off maybe the rest of the year, I don't know. 00:24:18.19\00:24:21.36 Happy spouse? Happy house! 00:24:21.56\00:24:23.96 That's right. You're not playing golf as much. 00:24:24.16\00:24:26.76 Praying in the morning together. 00:24:27.36\00:24:28.93 Now Sickness set us up. He said that you've got some 00:24:29.13\00:24:33.13 good things over here you've gotta have some bad things. 00:24:33.34\00:24:35.70 That's not the kind of balance we're talking about. 00:24:35.90\00:24:37.61 That's right. We're talking a balance of all good things 00:24:37.81\00:24:40.98 but being able to hold them in balance. 00:24:41.18\00:24:43.14 Because who ultimately holds it in balance? God does! 00:24:43.35\00:24:46.11 'Cause we put Him first. And when He's put first 00:24:46.31\00:24:49.05 He will help you balance out your family. 00:24:49.25\00:24:50.85 He will help you balance out your work load 00:24:51.05\00:24:53.49 and how to balance those things between family and work. 00:24:53.69\00:24:57.03 All those things are very very difficult. 00:24:57.23\00:24:59.23 You've heard the testimony of our wonderful couple here 00:24:59.43\00:25:02.73 and they have shared how they've had their struggles. 00:25:02.93\00:25:05.73 So that means that none of us are exempt. 00:25:05.93\00:25:08.54 None of us are immune to having to struggle. 00:25:08.74\00:25:11.44 BUT... when we put God first - Amen - When we allow Him 00:25:11.64\00:25:14.84 to drive and we take our hands "off the plow" - come on - 00:25:15.04\00:25:18.38 He'll do it for us. Amen! We'll see you next time. 00:25:18.58\00:25:21.22 May God bless you. 00:25:21.42\00:25:22.75 In the 40th chapter of Isaiah the Bible rhetorically asks 00:25:24.25\00:25:27.46 these questions: "Who has measured the waters in 00:25:27.66\00:25:30.66 the hollow of His hand? Or with the breadth of His hand 00:25:30.86\00:25:34.00 marked off the heavens? 00:25:34.30\00:25:36.23 Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket 00:25:36.43\00:25:39.83 or weighed the mountains on a scales and the hills 00:25:40.04\00:25:44.14 in a balance? " You know, the Lord truly is a God 00:25:44.34\00:25:48.74 of balance. In giving man his diet 00:25:48.94\00:25:52.08 He gave a balanced meal plan with foods that were both acid 00:25:52.28\00:25:56.89 and alkaline. In relationships He prescribed 00:25:57.09\00:26:00.36 the balanced formula for happiness between a man 00:26:00.56\00:26:03.43 and a woman. Even in a perfect garden 00:26:03.63\00:26:07.76 man received a perfect balance directive to enjoy 00:26:07.96\00:26:12.90 his surroundings while also working to dress 00:26:13.10\00:26:16.54 and keep that garden. 00:26:16.74\00:26:18.74 God is a God of balance! 00:26:18.94\00:26:20.61 Today I have to admit I've learned something. 00:26:21.11\00:26:23.91 Wow! What'd you learn? 00:26:24.51\00:26:25.85 I learned that YOU don't think I'm very balanced. 00:26:25.98\00:26:30.39 Well... that's our program for today. 00:26:32.09\00:26:33.99 Oh no, no you don't. 00:26:34.19\00:26:35.52 You're going to answer me this right here and now. 00:26:35.72\00:26:38.49 Why don't you think I'm balanced? 00:26:38.69\00:26:40.30 Is it because of my high-acid meat diet? 00:26:40.50\00:26:42.90 The fact that I love to put processed foods in everything 00:26:43.10\00:26:45.67 I eat? Or that's really all I eat. 00:26:45.87\00:26:47.50 Is it all the sugar or because my therapist 00:26:47.70\00:26:50.44 thinks I have a one-track mind about sickness? 00:26:50.64\00:26:53.11 What is it that makes you think I'm unbalanced? 00:26:53.31\00:26:56.38 You know what? You're right. 00:26:56.78\00:26:58.25 You should know what I think so I think I should tell you. 00:26:58.85\00:27:01.78 Thank you. OK... you remember you were talking 00:27:01.98\00:27:04.85 earlier about that whole... that analogy of the 00:27:05.05\00:27:07.66 car that was going down the hill without brakes 00:27:07.86\00:27:10.73 and the people didn't know they were in a car? 00:27:10.93\00:27:13.06 Oh yes! Well that was brilliant. Remember that? 00:27:13.26\00:27:14.96 Yes. That was not only a brilliant analogy 00:27:15.16\00:27:18.63 but it was a brilliant assessment. 00:27:18.83\00:27:21.77 It was so accurate! Thank you. 00:27:21.97\00:27:24.31 So there you go... that's what I think. 00:27:24.47\00:27:25.94 Thank you. Well that's our program for today. 00:27:26.34\00:27:28.84 Remember III John 2: "Beloved, I wish above all 00:27:29.04\00:27:32.31 things that thou mayest prosper and be in health. " 00:27:32.51\00:27:34.52 I'm Rico Hill. Maranatha. 00:27:34.92\00:27:37.29 And I'm the very balanced Sickness 00:27:37.79\00:27:39.82 speeding down a hill in a car with no brakes, baby. 00:27:40.22\00:27:44.06
