Friendly fire. 00:00:02.76\00:00:04.10 That's what took place in Judges chapter 7 and verse 22. 00:00:04.50\00:00:08.30 The Bible says: "And the 300 blew the trumpets 00:00:08.50\00:00:12.27 and the Lord set every man's sword against his fellow... 00:00:12.47\00:00:16.14 even throughout all the host. " 00:00:16.34\00:00:18.91 Oh... imagine that! Gideon and his army 00:00:19.11\00:00:22.15 had instilled so much fear in the enemy 00:00:22.35\00:00:24.89 that they turned on themselves with the sword. 00:00:25.09\00:00:28.56 In a military battle when the army fights against itself 00:00:29.06\00:00:32.43 and wounds its fellow soldiers it's called friendly fire. 00:00:32.63\00:00:36.33 Hello and welcome to From Sickness To Health. 00:00:36.73\00:00:39.03 I'm your host Rico Hill 00:00:39.43\00:00:41.14 and this is the blue guy. So what's wrong with a little 00:00:41.34\00:00:45.67 friendly fire? If it's friendly, what's the problem? 00:00:45.87\00:00:49.01 Well... when it's a battle people die. 00:00:49.21\00:00:51.31 And when it's with your health well people get a little sick... 00:00:51.51\00:00:55.65 Sick... Go on and say it! 00:00:55.85\00:00:59.95 They end up with me: Sickness. 00:01:00.16\00:01:02.96 AND... who's friendlier than me? 00:01:03.26\00:01:05.59 Well I can think of about a few thousand people 00:01:05.79\00:01:07.50 but that's not the point. 00:01:07.66\00:01:09.00 The point is today's topic is autoimmune diseases: 00:01:09.03\00:01:12.03 when the body begins to attack itself. 00:01:12.23\00:01:15.34 You mean the body keeps attacking itself? 00:01:15.64\00:01:18.61 This is genius! Like rheumatoid arthritis 00:01:18.81\00:01:22.51 and lupus and type 1 diabetes. 00:01:22.71\00:01:24.85 Oh... so amazing. 00:01:25.25\00:01:27.28 Ah... a perpetual state of sickness. 00:01:27.48\00:01:30.65 Yeah... just think about it. I mean, it's like 00:01:30.85\00:01:33.62 you get it started and it keeps going... 00:01:33.82\00:01:36.19 you just back away. Rico: back away. 00:01:36.39\00:01:40.43 It's like the gift that keeps on giving. 00:01:40.63\00:01:44.10 Just back away. Well I tell you what: 00:01:44.30\00:01:48.27 we're not going to have any friendly fire here! 00:01:48.67\00:01:51.11 You stick around. We're going to show you how you can 00:01:51.51\00:01:53.44 return that gift and get your health back. 00:01:53.64\00:01:57.15 Just back away... Roll it! 00:01:57.35\00:02:00.35 If you have just joined us here in the studio of 00:02:31.31\00:02:33.58 From Sickness To Health, welcome. We're glad that 00:02:33.78\00:02:35.92 you're here. We have a wonderful program for you today. 00:02:36.12\00:02:39.15 I'm going to share with you some of the wonderful people 00:02:39.35\00:02:42.12 who are joining us to talk about autoimmune disease. 00:02:42.32\00:02:44.73 But before we do that we want to say hello 00:02:44.93\00:02:46.83 to our friend, our colleague, our co-host Sickness 00:02:47.03\00:02:50.37 who is somewhere. He's remote. How are you today? 00:02:50.57\00:02:53.64 Still backing away. All right... OK. 00:02:53.84\00:02:57.01 We're going to turn to... We're not going to back away 00:02:57.21\00:02:59.94 from you guys. Dr. Yvonne Lewis is here with us. 00:03:00.14\00:03:04.08 She's a naturopathic doctor, also the general manager 00:03:04.28\00:03:06.88 here of Dare to Dream network. And we welcome you 00:03:07.08\00:03:09.48 back to the program. Great to be here! Thank you. 00:03:09.68\00:03:11.99 Dr. Thomas Jackson: you're here again. 00:03:12.19\00:03:13.52 We're happy to have you here. Now Dr. Jackson is a doctor of 00:03:13.56\00:03:17.63 natural health sciences and he is also the speaker/director 00:03:17.79\00:03:21.16 of M.E.E.T. Ministry in Huntingdon, Tennessee. 00:03:21.36\00:03:23.50 Thank you for being here again. Oh, it has been my pleasure 00:03:23.70\00:03:26.77 to be here. Ah, good, good, good. My pleasure. 00:03:26.97\00:03:29.14 And sitting to his right is Dr. Camille Clark. 00:03:29.34\00:03:32.37 Dr. Camille Clark is a... she's specializing in 00:03:32.57\00:03:35.41 internal medicine, and she is here to help us out on this 00:03:35.61\00:03:38.75 topic. Thank you for being here. Thank you for having me. 00:03:38.95\00:03:40.88 Wonderful, wonderful. Now... before we get started 00:03:41.08\00:03:44.02 we're going to talk about this subject of autoimmune disease. 00:03:44.22\00:03:46.65 We heard a little bit about it in the introduction 00:03:46.86\00:03:48.39 and we saw that the body begins to fight itself. 00:03:48.59\00:03:51.89 Now this means that your body is functioning fine. 00:03:52.09\00:03:56.00 The immune system is working but it has, as we're going to 00:03:56.20\00:04:00.50 find out, it has targeted the wrong thing - your own 00:04:00.70\00:04:03.67 organs and tissues - and it brings terrible inflammation 00:04:03.87\00:04:07.44 and issues for a lot of people. 00:04:07.64\00:04:09.61 But we want to get some help for you today 00:04:09.81\00:04:12.51 and I think our expert panel is going to do that. 00:04:12.71\00:04:14.82 But let's go to Sickness and hear what he's got cooked up. 00:04:15.02\00:04:18.22 Thanks Rico. I'm here in the kitchen 00:04:19.42\00:04:21.69 in a fierce battle. This is not a drill. 00:04:21.89\00:04:24.89 I repeat: this is NOT a drill. 00:04:25.09\00:04:28.70 You do not want to be here. 00:04:28.90\00:04:30.23 You see, it all started with a few friendly games 00:04:32.80\00:04:35.54 here in the kitchen but now it's turned into a deadly war. 00:04:35.74\00:04:38.74 This guy really wants to take me out. 00:04:41.24\00:04:43.58 And here's the thing: he's so evil. 00:04:45.31\00:04:47.88 He's pure evil. 00:04:48.08\00:04:49.98 Oh hi Rico. As you can see I'm in an all-out war 00:04:56.26\00:05:00.33 but I've got this guy right up against the ropes. 00:05:00.73\00:05:03.06 You see, a little game of friendly fire is going to 00:05:05.50\00:05:08.50 bring him to his knees. 00:05:08.70\00:05:10.71 And there's a secret weapon I've got. You see, mentally 00:05:10.91\00:05:13.78 he's already beat. He thinks genetics 00:05:13.98\00:05:16.14 determines destiny... but that's not true. 00:05:16.34\00:05:19.18 You see, a lot of people think that just because your mom 00:05:20.38\00:05:23.08 and dad had the disease you're going to get it too. 00:05:23.28\00:05:25.89 Not true at all! 00:05:26.29\00:05:29.09 The secret is: genetics loads the gun; 00:05:29.29\00:05:32.83 lifestyle pulls the trigger. 00:05:33.03\00:05:35.66 So let's take for instance something like not getting 00:05:36.80\00:05:40.14 enough sunshine, 00:05:40.34\00:05:42.57 not sleeping, 00:05:44.54\00:05:46.57 not exercising, 00:05:47.38\00:05:49.34 or not getting enough water. 00:05:50.35\00:05:53.38 But you know there's one more thing that's absolutely 00:05:54.82\00:05:58.49 my personal favorite. It's when we think we can eat 00:05:58.69\00:06:04.03 whatever we want as often as we want. 00:06:04.23\00:06:08.60 Well that is definitely an interesting way to look at that. 00:06:15.57\00:06:18.74 Well, he makes a good point. He does! 00:06:19.24\00:06:21.18 He talked about the lifestyle disease or autoimmune disease 00:06:21.38\00:06:26.85 coming from the very basic and simple things that 00:06:27.05\00:06:29.92 we neglect every day like water, sunshine, 00:06:30.12\00:06:33.42 exercise, getting enough rest, right? 00:06:33.62\00:06:35.72 And, which leads to... Oh, how about the nutrition? 00:06:35.92\00:06:40.13 That's a big one, right? We've got to talk about that. 00:06:40.33\00:06:42.96 It was a big gun! It's a big gun. That's a big gun! Right. 00:06:43.16\00:06:46.30 All of the other ones are important too, but that's a 00:06:46.50\00:06:47.90 really big gun because mentally people don't think their food 00:06:48.10\00:06:51.24 affects them in that way. That's right. 00:06:51.44\00:06:53.41 So I want to hear from you guys; talk about that. 00:06:53.61\00:06:55.68 I want to get a little greater perspective, though, because 00:06:55.88\00:06:58.11 there's a video - a newsclip - that really gets into this 00:06:58.31\00:07:01.15 and I think it lays out the foundation of this 00:07:01.35\00:07:03.35 in a really special way. So let's take a look at that 00:07:03.55\00:07:05.65 video clip as well. 00:07:05.85\00:07:07.36 So for example with type I diabetes 00:07:09.16\00:07:11.63 you're going to see our immune system will go after 00:07:11.83\00:07:13.80 the pancreas and that's how you get diabetes. 00:07:14.00\00:07:15.96 But autoimmune disease... I think it should be changed 00:07:16.16\00:07:18.23 to syndrome because it's not one disease. 00:07:18.43\00:07:20.67 Between celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, 00:07:20.87\00:07:23.64 thyroiditis, and on and on. Fibromyalgia, lupus, 00:07:23.84\00:07:27.74 rheumatoid arthritis. There's a whole series of autoimmune 00:07:27.94\00:07:30.95 that everybody wanted to hear and that's why we're doing this. 00:07:31.15\00:07:33.42 The ideology and cause behind this could be viral. 00:07:33.62\00:07:36.82 People have talked about Epstein-Barr virus 00:07:37.02\00:07:39.12 could be bacterial. Could be some of these heavy metals 00:07:39.32\00:07:41.79 that we have in lipsticks and all these other things. 00:07:41.99\00:07:44.33 Or it could be the toxic food that we have... that we use. 00:07:44.53\00:07:47.03 We'll talk about some of this. What do doctors do? 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.50 When they come to me - I don't see a lot of them - but Mark, 00:07:49.70\00:07:51.93 they usually give steroids and they want to reduce 00:07:52.13\00:07:54.77 the amount of inflammation. That's temporary. That's only 00:07:54.97\00:07:57.41 taking care of the symptoms. But the truth is that our diet 00:07:57.61\00:08:00.44 is not so healthy and we talk about sugar. 00:08:00.64\00:08:02.48 I made a list of the things that people need to know, 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.68 so I'll go through this really fast. Just so... New treatments: 00:08:04.88\00:08:08.22 you need to get rid of dairy foods. Dairy: cheese, milk, 00:08:08.42\00:08:11.15 and other things causes endotoxin, causes increase in 00:08:11.35\00:08:14.06 autoimmune. Get rid of trans fat. 00:08:14.26\00:08:15.86 Mark has talked about this. No gluten... which I know Jamie 00:08:16.06\00:08:19.09 agrees with that. Get rid of sugar. 00:08:19.29\00:08:21.33 No red meat and no processed food, fast food... you know, 00:08:21.53\00:08:26.94 fried food. But what we want to stick to 00:08:27.14\00:08:29.80 is healthy vegetables and fruits. Add turmeric to your 00:08:30.01\00:08:32.81 diet which reduces inflammation and go to olive oil. And finally 00:08:33.01\00:08:36.44 vitamin D. Wow! This is probably new information 00:08:36.64\00:08:40.22 to a lot of you. So we're going to turn to our 00:08:40.42\00:08:42.68 distinguished panel of experts 00:08:42.88\00:08:45.75 and we're going to make some sense of all this. 00:08:45.95\00:08:47.69 One of the things that... you notice what he said. 00:08:47.89\00:08:50.23 He said: "It treats the symptoms. " Um-hmm. 00:08:50.43\00:08:53.26 Now you don't normally hear doctors say that. Yes. 00:08:53.46\00:08:55.86 Right doctor? Doctors? 00:08:56.06\00:08:58.60 So what do you think about this? This is some truth 00:08:58.80\00:09:01.07 that's just come out here! That's true. Um-hmm. 00:09:01.27\00:09:03.14 So, you don't normally treat... So have we gotten into 00:09:03.34\00:09:06.88 this perpetual thing of treating symptoms and not 00:09:07.11\00:09:08.98 dealing with the issue? Right. Exactly. 00:09:09.18\00:09:10.51 Not looking at the core... not looking at the cause - 00:09:10.58\00:09:13.95 um-hmm - but managing the symptoms. Right. 00:09:14.15\00:09:16.15 And if we can get to the root cause of the issue 00:09:16.45\00:09:19.35 then we can... The symptoms are going to fall in line 00:09:19.55\00:09:22.52 once you get to the root cause. 00:09:22.72\00:09:24.33 And I love the fact that he was bringing out - 00:09:24.53\00:09:26.80 there's hope - lifestyle changes that you can make 00:09:27.00\00:09:29.73 to actually get to the root cause of the issue. 00:09:29.93\00:09:32.43 There's an expression I have: "the cure is in the cause. " 00:09:32.63\00:09:37.61 Oh, come on... I like that. 00:09:38.01\00:09:40.18 The cure is in the cause because Proverbs 26:2 says: 00:09:40.38\00:09:43.08 "The curse causes should not come. " 00:09:43.28\00:09:45.88 So that means for every effect, every symptom, there's a cause. 00:09:46.08\00:09:49.18 So where is the cure? It's in the cause. 00:09:49.48\00:09:51.75 We find the cause, remove the cause, we have the cure. 00:09:51.95\00:09:54.79 Oh, isn't that simple? It's great. 00:09:54.99\00:09:56.93 You're not really just giving something that is his own 00:09:57.13\00:10:01.36 thought, that's really the Bible. That's right. 00:10:01.56\00:10:03.00 Notice he went to Proverbs 26 verse 2 which says: 00:10:03.20\00:10:05.50 "Disease does not come without a cause. " That's right. 00:10:05.70\00:10:08.57 Brilliant. The Bible is brilliant, isn't it? 00:10:08.87\00:10:11.41 Amen! That's why I'm smart... 'cause I read the Bible. 00:10:11.61\00:10:15.74 'Cause you read the Bible. 00:10:15.94\00:10:17.28 You know, because you know what? Not because of the school. 00:10:17.88\00:10:20.05 Some people can read it, but making application... 00:10:20.25\00:10:22.58 that's absolutely true... making application. 00:10:22.78\00:10:24.85 "My people perish for lack of knowledge. " That's true. 00:10:25.05\00:10:27.46 And using that knowledge that comes from God. That's true. 00:10:27.66\00:10:29.36 So it's the symptom that we've been focusing on, 00:10:29.56\00:10:32.73 but this doctor... he laid it out on television 00:10:32.93\00:10:36.13 and said: "You know what? We're dealing with symptoms 00:10:36.33\00:10:39.67 rather than the cause. " And the big thing that he pointed out 00:10:39.87\00:10:42.24 was the diet. The diet. And he listed a few things. 00:10:42.44\00:10:45.77 Now if we were to let that continue on 00:10:45.97\00:10:48.38 the anchor said: "Hey, do you agree with him? " 00:10:49.81\00:10:54.15 And the other doctor was a little like: "Well, you know. " 00:10:54.35\00:10:58.49 Because it's really difficult to tell people that not only 00:10:58.69\00:11:02.76 is it dairy, cheese, milk. Not only is it 00:11:02.96\00:11:05.49 red meat or processed food but it's all these things that 00:11:06.90\00:11:09.66 we love! That's right. Right? 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.90 So what are some of the other things? Oh, by the way, 00:11:12.10\00:11:14.97 I know you have a testimony because rheumatoid arthritis 00:11:15.17\00:11:18.37 was mentioned there. That's right. But there are some people 00:11:18.57\00:11:20.34 out there who are watching this program 00:11:20.54\00:11:23.31 and they're suffering. They're suffering from colitis; 00:11:23.51\00:11:26.58 they're suffering from Crohn's disease, celiac disease, 00:11:26.78\00:11:29.05 and they cannot find relief. 00:11:29.35\00:11:32.45 And mainly because they are just getting the steroids. 00:11:32.65\00:11:35.59 That's right. Right? I just want to put a little bit 00:11:35.79\00:11:38.06 of a backdrop on this whole discussion about autoimmunity. 00:11:38.26\00:11:41.36 So as was kind of mentioned your immune system is your 00:11:41.56\00:11:44.53 body's defense mechanism. It will fight diseases 00:11:44.73\00:11:46.87 and then autoimmunity comes when you're fighting against 00:11:47.07\00:11:49.44 yourself. And there are a lot of different examples. 00:11:49.64\00:11:51.47 So as was mentioned before you may have thyroid problems - 00:11:51.67\00:11:54.74 we actually see this a lot in females and then 00:11:54.94\00:11:57.08 in minorities as well - but like Hashimoto's or Graves' disease. 00:11:57.28\00:12:01.35 Lupus was mentioned as well 00:12:01.55\00:12:03.55 and celiac and all of these type of things. 00:12:03.75\00:12:06.15 So while the genetic component exists, and that's why 00:12:06.35\00:12:10.03 we definitely ask someone: "What is your family history? 00:12:10.23\00:12:13.26 Did your mom have this? Did your brother have this? " 00:12:13.46\00:12:15.53 so that we can get a bit of a backdrop as to what they may be 00:12:15.73\00:12:19.10 predisposed to there are these other factors. 00:12:19.30\00:12:21.94 So as he mentioned in the video you can have the viruses 00:12:22.14\00:12:24.84 that can trigger that. You can have a lifestyle that 00:12:25.04\00:12:27.14 actually propels it. And so there's this interesting 00:12:27.34\00:12:29.44 phenomenon of epigenetics, and that's things outside 00:12:29.64\00:12:32.71 of your genetic DNA that can influence the expression 00:12:32.91\00:12:37.15 of things that may already be there... already exist 00:12:37.35\00:12:40.52 and kind of propel it so that it starts this reaction 00:12:40.72\00:12:44.89 of inflammation. Yeah. Now you're absolutely right: 00:12:45.09\00:12:47.53 I think this is one of the fields in medicine where 00:12:47.73\00:12:49.83 we're learning, we're growing and all the answers 00:12:50.03\00:12:52.33 definitely are not there. So in terms of treatment 00:12:52.53\00:12:55.64 steroids kind of mask and calm down a lot of the inflammation 00:12:55.84\00:12:59.24 so that you can live. However, when you're talking about 00:12:59.44\00:13:02.41 getting over the illness 00:13:02.91\00:13:05.65 and going back to a better state of life 00:13:05.85\00:13:08.95 because it's so complicated you can do immunomodulating 00:13:09.15\00:13:13.49 therapies where you're trying to depress your body's immune 00:13:13.69\00:13:16.96 reaction so that... Is that healthy? 00:13:17.16\00:13:19.09 So it's a set up. I mean, you're trying to do that 00:13:19.29\00:13:22.96 so you're not attacking yourself but you're also 00:13:23.16\00:13:25.57 putting yourself at increased risk. Risk of other things! 00:13:25.97\00:13:28.74 Yes. And that's why these other things are so important. 00:13:28.94\00:13:32.97 For instance, people with multiple sclerosis... 00:13:33.17\00:13:35.11 what do you tell them? Well... the exercise. 00:13:35.51\00:13:37.98 Your food. Things to stay away from. 00:13:38.18\00:13:40.22 All of these lifestyle factors. Just to kind of put into 00:13:40.42\00:13:43.28 perspective what is being done. Why it is being done. 00:13:43.49\00:13:46.35 And also the other elements that we need to keep in mind 00:13:46.55\00:13:49.59 so that we're not just masking an inflammatory process 00:13:49.79\00:13:52.86 but actually dealing with the cause. 00:13:53.06\00:13:55.86 And you used a word there: epigenetics. 00:13:56.06\00:13:58.70 And looking into some of that we see that that's how the genes 00:13:59.10\00:14:03.07 themselves express themselves 00:14:03.27\00:14:05.51 based on things that we introduce into the system. 00:14:06.11\00:14:09.58 Epigenetics. It's really kind of the scientific term 00:14:09.98\00:14:13.68 for genetics or heredity loads the gun 00:14:13.88\00:14:16.85 but your lifestyle pulls the trigger, right? 00:14:17.05\00:14:19.79 So that's the scientific term for that. 00:14:19.99\00:14:21.42 Rico, I have a comment on that. OK. 00:14:21.72\00:14:25.06 I just want to say that I completely agree: 00:14:25.46\00:14:28.06 it is all about your genetics. I agree with both of you 00:14:28.26\00:14:31.30 so people can stop stressing out. It's all genes. 00:14:31.50\00:14:34.40 No, no, no... that's not what we said, is it? 00:14:34.80\00:14:36.97 No! Now you gave a very balanced perspective. 00:14:37.17\00:14:39.94 Epi comes from the Greek word which means outside of 00:14:40.14\00:14:43.18 your genes, so... 00:14:43.38\00:14:45.11 Thank you for that; thank you for that. We have to get into 00:14:45.31\00:14:47.38 a word study. I think Sickness has selective hearing. 00:14:47.58\00:14:50.09 But you know, when people are sick... It's interesting: when 00:14:51.69\00:14:54.36 people are sick and they're sick as a result of their diet 00:14:54.56\00:14:57.26 and their lifestyle they tend to have selective hearing. 00:14:57.46\00:14:59.93 Because you can share wonderful information - that's true - 00:15:00.13\00:15:03.13 and they continue to go about things that are actually 00:15:03.33\00:15:05.70 harming them. That's right. Is that right? That's right. 00:15:05.90\00:15:07.57 So we want to really give a real balanced perspective. 00:15:07.77\00:15:11.44 So thank you for that... for giving that perspective. 00:15:11.64\00:15:13.48 So we see that you have to look at that family history. 00:15:13.68\00:15:16.64 You've got to understand what may be in your genes. 00:15:16.85\00:15:20.62 But I have seen that something like 75% of a lot of the 00:15:20.82\00:15:25.39 lifestyle diseases are preventable. Um-hmm. 75%. 00:15:25.59\00:15:28.89 So there is that 25% where it is solidly in 00:15:29.09\00:15:34.23 your genetics, right? Predisposition you might say. 00:15:34.43\00:15:38.27 Yes, yes. Where we understand unless 00:15:38.47\00:15:41.74 definitely there is an abnormality where it might cause 00:15:41.94\00:15:44.57 structural brain damage. But with this autoimmune... 00:15:44.77\00:15:48.91 With my situation when I was clinically diagnosed at the age 00:15:49.11\00:15:52.21 of 17 moving to rheumatoid arthritis. As I always share 00:15:52.41\00:15:56.05 this story. So from 17 to 27 that condition really escalated 00:15:56.25\00:16:01.76 when I went to college then when I was pursuing 00:16:01.96\00:16:04.06 a professional career. And so the doctor said definitely 00:16:04.26\00:16:07.43 there was no known cause. No cause? No cause! 00:16:07.63\00:16:10.93 That's #1. Number 2: there is no remedy. 00:16:11.13\00:16:13.97 And #3: you have to be on drugs for the rest of your life. 00:16:14.17\00:16:16.97 So there was also no hope - there was no hope - according 00:16:17.17\00:16:19.97 to his diagnosis... to his understanding. 00:16:20.18\00:16:23.11 And so there I'm taking drugs... anti-inflammatory drugs... 00:16:23.31\00:16:25.98 and my body became so desensitized to them 00:16:26.18\00:16:29.65 they lost their effect on my body. 00:16:29.85\00:16:31.75 So there were other things I had to resort to just to deal with 00:16:31.95\00:16:34.72 that situation. My condition was so worse 00:16:34.92\00:16:37.26 it not only stopped my career as a professional basketball 00:16:37.46\00:16:39.79 player but it kept me out of the Vietnam War. 00:16:40.00\00:16:42.53 So during that time - which I was elated over that - 00:16:42.73\00:16:45.53 and because hey, you know... the Army didn't want me, 00:16:45.73\00:16:48.40 I sure didn't want them either. 00:16:48.60\00:16:50.17 But I'm going to tell you believe it or not 00:16:50.77\00:16:52.77 when I began to just go through the Word of God... 00:16:52.97\00:16:56.88 When I mentioned about the curse caused it... 00:16:57.08\00:16:58.75 When we deal with autoimmune as was already stated, the body 00:16:58.95\00:17:01.48 immune system begins to turn on its own tissue 00:17:01.68\00:17:04.35 and we find inflammatory reaction. 00:17:04.65\00:17:07.19 And one of the things that I find, too: that the body 00:17:07.39\00:17:09.82 has to deal with metabolizing a lot of protein. 00:17:10.13\00:17:12.56 If the body does not metabolize protein, the protein becomes 00:17:12.76\00:17:15.13 offensive. Um-hmm. You follow me? 00:17:15.33\00:17:17.97 And then I remember reading some inspired writing 00:17:18.17\00:17:21.54 and it says: "Digestion is the foundation of the 00:17:21.74\00:17:24.51 human... of the body. " And so digestion - the way 00:17:24.71\00:17:28.11 we process food, the way we digest food - 00:17:28.31\00:17:30.48 also will either prevent these autoimmune reactions 00:17:30.98\00:17:36.95 or can also help to deal with these autoimmune 00:17:37.15\00:17:40.86 because #1, when we talk about virus/bacteria we also 00:17:41.06\00:17:44.13 talk about the body's inability to deal with protein. 00:17:44.33\00:17:47.96 Then we're dealing with inner city. We're dealing with people 00:17:48.36\00:17:50.37 of color also: African descent - lactose intolerance. 00:17:50.57\00:17:53.60 You know, dealing with cow's milk... which basically 00:17:54.00\00:17:56.81 none of us were designed to drink cow's milk in the first 00:17:57.01\00:17:59.64 place. Wait a minute. That's a big statement, Doc! 00:17:59.84\00:18:01.71 Well, we go on. You take that... You know, human... 00:18:01.91\00:18:06.45 The best milk is mama's milk, OK? 00:18:06.65\00:18:09.25 And you find the protein percentage in mama's milk is 00:18:09.45\00:18:11.89 probably 1.3%. Cow's milk is three times larger than that. 00:18:12.09\00:18:15.79 And so it takes a baby 120 days to double its birth weight. 00:18:16.19\00:18:21.86 In a calf it only takes 47 days. 00:18:22.26\00:18:24.77 So therefore it needs more protein! Because it's 00:18:24.97\00:18:26.90 the protein within that species designed for that species. 00:18:27.10\00:18:31.17 And it makes sense. Logically that calf needs to get up 00:18:31.37\00:18:34.28 and "run with the herd... " otherwise it's going to be 00:18:34.48\00:18:36.61 preyed upon. So our food chain has changed 00:18:36.81\00:18:39.21 in a high consumption of protein foods not able... 00:18:39.41\00:18:42.08 After a certain period of time hydrochloric acid decreases 00:18:42.28\00:18:44.92 in our body. Um-hmm. And a new phenomenon 00:18:45.12\00:18:48.32 comes up: what they call the "leaky gut syndrome. " 00:18:48.52\00:18:50.43 You've probably heard of that. But the fact is, when I read 00:18:50.63\00:18:53.33 these statements... Our digestive systems can become 00:18:53.53\00:18:56.43 so inflamed, so irritated, that where protein leaks out, 00:18:56.63\00:19:01.84 leaks into our bloodstream. Um-hmm. 00:19:02.04\00:19:04.17 And the fact is we talk about here MS. 00:19:04.37\00:19:06.41 You know, I work with people with MS. 00:19:06.61\00:19:08.51 We find that essential fatty acid... 00:19:08.71\00:19:10.48 we're talking about not getting - some breast fed - 00:19:10.68\00:19:15.05 we're talking about vaccinations. These factors 00:19:15.25\00:19:18.85 definitely overpower the body to the point where the body's 00:19:19.05\00:19:22.19 trying to defend itself so it attacks the tissue. 00:19:22.39\00:19:24.59 Now what happened to me... one thing. 00:19:24.79\00:19:27.13 This has been over... Now I don't have rheumatoid arthritis 00:19:27.53\00:19:30.53 no more. No more? A 10-year battle ended within one year. 00:19:30.73\00:19:34.80 Why? What made a difference in you? 00:19:35.10\00:19:37.94 And I was not a Christian. I'm saying this very clear: 00:19:38.14\00:19:40.94 I was not a Christian, but because I grew up with a mother 00:19:41.14\00:19:43.41 who believed in God, and after my career ended 00:19:43.61\00:19:46.61 I became so depressed and angry that I thought about the Bible. 00:19:46.82\00:19:49.58 So I picked up the Word of God looking for hope. 00:19:49.98\00:19:52.62 But I went on a journey through the Bible, not only finding 00:19:52.82\00:19:55.66 Christ in the Bible but I found the cause of 00:19:55.86\00:19:57.96 my rheumatoid arthritis. What was the cause? 00:19:58.16\00:19:59.66 #1 we go back: the curse cause should not come. 00:19:59.86\00:20:02.30 You remember that? Proverbs 26:2. 00:20:02.50\00:20:03.93 Joel 29:16 says: "A cause I knew not; I search it out. " 00:20:04.13\00:20:07.27 And so one of my favorite texts: "The life of the flesh 00:20:07.47\00:20:10.77 is in the blood. " Um-hmm. OK? 00:20:10.97\00:20:13.24 Then I read in Leviticus 7: "No fat... no blood. " 00:20:13.44\00:20:15.84 No fat... no blood. OK? 00:20:16.04\00:20:18.51 Genesis 9:3-5: "Every animal whose life you take 00:20:18.91\00:20:22.02 I require your life. " So I said: "Well why not... 00:20:22.22\00:20:24.35 Why do you prohibit blood? " 00:20:24.55\00:20:26.76 "Why do you prohibit fat? " 00:20:26.96\00:20:28.36 And so... Remember, I'm not a theologian 00:20:28.56\00:20:31.79 but I began to do some research and I found within the blood... 00:20:31.99\00:20:34.46 Bringing out a point: within the blood of the animal 00:20:34.66\00:20:38.03 I found this protein or this chemical called purine. 00:20:38.23\00:20:42.24 Purine. The byproduct of purine is uric acid. 00:20:42.44\00:20:46.91 So the body's got to get rid of that. And so the fact is 00:20:47.11\00:20:50.15 I began to create inflammation in my body. 00:20:50.35\00:20:52.58 All right? And so I began to do a little more studying on this 00:20:52.98\00:20:56.38 this protein molecule. And I found out that my body was not 00:20:56.58\00:21:00.12 metabolizing... so I really needed to get rid of that 00:21:00.32\00:21:01.92 purine. And so I began to eliminate all of the animal 00:21:02.12\00:21:04.99 protein out of my body. 00:21:05.19\00:21:06.80 I found I was dehydrated. 00:21:07.00\00:21:08.50 Isaiah 44:12; Ezekiel 4:6. 00:21:08.70\00:21:10.87 I was not drinking enough water. 00:21:11.07\00:21:12.40 I found out number one: all the dairy, all the cheese... 00:21:12.97\00:21:16.17 Cheese contains tyramine. 00:21:16.37\00:21:18.44 You find that that even affects the central nervous system. 00:21:18.64\00:21:20.71 And so as I began to remove and replace those things out of... 00:21:21.01\00:21:24.21 replace those things with better food - 00:21:24.41\00:21:26.68 more plant-based diet - 00:21:26.88\00:21:28.22 more water... The dairy: I eliminated that. 00:21:28.38\00:21:31.05 I was a sugarholic. A sugarholic? 00:21:31.25\00:21:33.22 I used to eat sugar sandwiches. 00:21:33.42\00:21:35.52 I would take "Wonder dead... " I mean white bread... 00:21:35.72\00:21:38.96 and I would take butter and put it in a skillet - uh-huh - 00:21:39.16\00:21:42.63 and put sugar. And if you're rich you put 00:21:42.83\00:21:45.20 a little cinnamon on the white bread... sugar sandwiches. 00:21:45.40\00:21:47.37 Um-hmm. So once I followed those principles 00:21:47.57\00:21:50.17 I began to find the cause... Eliminate the protein 00:21:50.37\00:21:54.18 that was causing my problem here. 00:21:54.38\00:21:56.08 I began to do... I was exercising already. 00:21:56.28\00:21:58.88 I was not... I was stressed out. 00:21:59.08\00:22:00.55 So once I began to apply these principles... 00:22:00.75\00:22:03.65 My wife, when I told her... 00:22:03.85\00:22:05.19 like I told you, we've been married over 42 years... 00:22:05.22\00:22:07.06 when I told my wife I'm making these changes she said: 00:22:07.26\00:22:08.89 "You're gonna die; you're crazy! " 00:22:09.09\00:22:10.79 So for two years we ate out of separate pots. 00:22:11.19\00:22:14.90 But within 6 months to a year 00:22:15.10\00:22:16.87 my condition was totally reversed. 00:22:17.27\00:22:18.80 I used to predict the weather. Because of the barometric? 00:22:19.00\00:22:22.30 The barometric pressure would affect. Diet, to me... my... 00:22:22.50\00:22:26.47 my folk had rheumatoid arthritis. My PEOPLE had this. 00:22:26.68\00:22:30.71 Go back down the chain... they have this. 00:22:30.91\00:22:33.48 Goes back to the diet, etc... the lifestyle. Um-hmm. 00:22:33.68\00:22:36.95 And so once I dealt with that lifestyle and began to replace 00:22:37.15\00:22:40.26 those type of foods and dealt with my stress 00:22:40.46\00:22:43.29 my condition was totally reversed as of today. 00:22:43.49\00:22:48.46 Wow! That's autoimmune. I've seen people with MS. 00:22:48.66\00:22:52.37 Not all cases. I've seen people in a wheelchair get up and walk 00:22:52.57\00:22:56.20 as a result of the plan. Fibromyalgia. 00:22:56.40\00:22:58.61 So you're saying to someone out here 00:22:58.81\00:23:01.18 that if they make these lifestyle changes 00:23:01.38\00:23:04.48 they too can overcome whatever the autoimmune 00:23:04.68\00:23:08.95 issue is in their life? I'm saying this: 00:23:09.15\00:23:11.52 that again... search out the cause... search out the cause. 00:23:11.72\00:23:15.16 Leave this up to God but I'm saying 00:23:15.36\00:23:16.83 that they have greater advantages 00:23:17.03\00:23:21.23 either to reverse it or reducing that problem. 00:23:21.43\00:23:26.17 With cases I've dealt with I've seen allergies. 00:23:26.57\00:23:29.87 We've worked with lupus. Now I'm working for a young... 00:23:30.07\00:23:32.94 See lupus normally used to affect women - black women - 00:23:33.14\00:23:35.78 and now I've just seen three men with lupus 00:23:35.98\00:23:40.25 and now one is a 14-year-old young man. 00:23:40.65\00:23:43.82 Wow... wow! And when I trace his diet 00:23:44.02\00:23:47.09 and his lifestyle it's the cow's milk; it's the sugar; 00:23:47.29\00:23:49.89 it's the cheese. The whole... And doctors continue to treat 00:23:50.09\00:23:53.50 him with anti-inflammatory drugs and that's all. It masks. 00:23:53.70\00:23:56.83 All I'm saying: that lifestyle is important. 00:23:57.03\00:23:59.20 Whether... I cannot predict the fact, hey, that's what God's 00:23:59.40\00:24:03.17 going to do for you, but I do know that 00:24:03.37\00:24:04.97 you do not have anything to lose in following this program. 00:24:05.17\00:24:09.61 So... Go ahead, I'm sorry. Yeah, I was just saying 00:24:09.81\00:24:12.21 what I love about your story is that it offers hope. 00:24:12.41\00:24:15.35 And I think that's what lifestyle medicine is all about. 00:24:15.55\00:24:18.15 Because often we think: "Oh, I was born into this family. 00:24:18.35\00:24:22.46 I have the genetics and it's all downhill. 00:24:22.66\00:24:25.46 It doesn't matter; whatever I do is not going to 00:24:25.66\00:24:27.30 make a difference. " But here we have a real-life example! 00:24:27.50\00:24:30.23 And not just yours... there are so many people who have made 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.97 changes in their lifestyle and their diet and seen 00:24:33.17\00:24:36.00 positive results. One thing: when you mention 00:24:36.20\00:24:38.81 hope... In Job chapter 14 verses 7 through 9- 00:24:39.01\00:24:42.91 and you're probably familiar with this text - the Bible says: 00:24:43.11\00:24:45.28 "There's hope for a tree. 00:24:45.48\00:24:47.05 Though it be cut down yet its roots wax old in the earth. 00:24:47.45\00:24:51.62 At the scent of water it shall sprout again. " 00:24:51.82\00:24:54.86 So you can cut a tree down but if its roots are intact 00:24:55.26\00:24:58.89 and you couple that with Ecclesiastes 9 verse 4. 00:24:59.09\00:25:02.70 It says: "A living dog is better than a dead lion. " 00:25:02.90\00:25:05.40 Where there's life there's hope. 00:25:05.60\00:25:06.94 And so this program is about hope! 00:25:06.97\00:25:08.77 It's hope... and you found the hope in the Word of God. 00:25:08.97\00:25:12.34 You know, what's so beautiful about this is that 00:25:12.54\00:25:15.28 he talked about there's hope in a tree in its roots. 00:25:15.48\00:25:18.68 So what we're saying then: if there is an organ 00:25:19.08\00:25:22.35 that still has the flow of blood - Amen! - 00:25:22.55\00:25:25.35 you've got some blood flowing to that organ - That's it! 00:25:26.59\00:25:29.16 then it actually can live again! 00:25:29.36\00:25:31.33 Oh wow... that's a beautiful thought. And I hope 00:25:31.56\00:25:33.63 this has given you some hope today. 00:25:33.83\00:25:35.46 I want you to go and think about what may be 00:25:35.86\00:25:38.40 the cause for you. What may be the thing that's 00:25:38.60\00:25:41.84 in your lifestyle that's causing these inflammatory 00:25:42.04\00:25:46.21 responses. You search out the cause. 00:25:46.41\00:25:48.31 If you need to... In fact, I suggest: 00:25:48.51\00:25:50.85 go to the Word of God and maybe you'll find your answer there. 00:25:51.05\00:25:53.62 May God bless you. Thank you for joining us. 00:25:53.82\00:25:55.68 Proverbs chapter 11 and verse 17 states: 00:25:57.59\00:26:00.76 "The merciful man doeth good to his own soul 00:26:01.02\00:26:04.83 but he that is cruel troubled his own flesh. " 00:26:05.03\00:26:09.63 Wow! Today we learned about autoimmune disease 00:26:10.27\00:26:14.40 which essentially is when the body begins to attack itself. 00:26:14.60\00:26:18.47 We called it friendly fire. 00:26:18.87\00:26:20.81 However, we also learned that when we are actually putting 00:26:21.01\00:26:24.81 things in our bodies that cause an autoimmune response 00:26:25.01\00:26:29.32 and it troubles your own flesh 00:26:29.72\00:26:32.05 well, according to the Bible, that is cruel. 00:26:32.25\00:26:35.69 No, you know what's cruel? What's that? 00:26:35.89\00:26:38.29 When some people - i.e. YOU - try to mess up a good thing. 00:26:38.49\00:26:41.90 Well what good thing am I trying to mess up? 00:26:42.30\00:26:45.83 Don't you remember? You're messing up my good thing 00:26:46.23\00:26:49.10 of getting something started and then just back away. 00:26:49.30\00:26:53.58 Oh... yeah, yeah, I remember that. 00:26:53.78\00:26:56.08 The whole thing of... Your method of getting people 00:26:56.28\00:27:00.02 sick and then backing away. 00:27:00.22\00:27:01.82 Oh, I just have to ask you this: what harm has it done? 00:27:02.02\00:27:05.92 Are you kidding me? You're going to let them in 00:27:06.12\00:27:08.26 on my secret that if they stop doing this 00:27:08.46\00:27:11.19 and start doing that they could become health... 00:27:11.39\00:27:14.93 Go ahead... Health... Just say it! Heaa... 00:27:15.13\00:27:19.47 That's been our program for today. Oh, no, no, no. 00:27:19.67\00:27:21.60 That's not our program just yet. Not just yet. 00:27:21.80\00:27:24.57 Why don't you just back away? 00:27:25.97\00:27:28.64 Just back away. 00:27:28.84\00:27:32.18 Look: "Beloved, I wish above all things that 00:27:32.58\00:27:36.25 thou mayest prosper and be in health. " 00:27:36.45\00:27:38.59 I'm Rico Hill, and Sickness has backed away. 00:27:38.99\00:27:43.66 Maranatha... stay healthy! 00:27:44.06\00:27:46.70
