The Psalmist says in Psalm 107 verse 1: 00:00:01.70\00:00:04.90 "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so 00:00:05.10\00:00:07.64 whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy. " 00:00:07.84\00:00:11.24 Hello and welcome to From Sickness To Health. 00:00:11.44\00:00:14.01 I'm your host Rico Hill and this is my... 00:00:14.31\00:00:18.38 friend. What're you doing? 00:00:18.98\00:00:21.55 I'm practicing how to pass the test 00:00:22.15\00:00:25.25 in case I get stopped. Stopped by whom? 00:00:25.75\00:00:29.49 The police! They pull people over all the time 00:00:29.69\00:00:33.29 for drinking and driving. Now 1, 2, 3, 4... 00:00:33.50\00:00:38.70 Why would they stop you? Have you been drinking? 00:00:38.90\00:00:41.30 Is this going to be on TV? Uh... yes! 00:00:41.50\00:00:44.54 Then no! Are you going to keep doing this? 00:00:44.74\00:00:50.55 Is this going to be on TV? 00:00:51.05\00:00:52.71 YES! Then yes! Now hop, hop, hop, hop, hop... 00:00:53.52\00:00:58.12 I guess you're passing with flying colors, aren't you? 00:01:04.16\00:01:06.70 Yes... absolutely! Flying blue colors. Thanks for asking. 00:01:06.90\00:01:10.90 Well, in today's program we are going to talk about 00:01:12.50\00:01:16.37 wine and alcohol... 00:01:16.71\00:01:18.81 which we weren't supposed to drink by the way. 00:01:19.01\00:01:21.88 Oh, is this the part where you're going to give a Bible 00:01:22.08\00:01:23.85 verse? Well let me give you the Bible text: 00:01:24.05\00:01:25.51 "A little wine is good for the stomach. " 00:01:25.71\00:01:29.48 And a little wine after work is good. 00:01:29.88\00:01:32.85 And on the way home is good. 00:01:33.05\00:01:35.12 And a little nightcap is good. 00:01:35.32\00:01:37.89 Wine is good, and it never hurt nobody. 00:01:38.29\00:01:42.06 Well... while he misuses the Bible 00:01:43.40\00:01:46.20 we're going to go into this topic today about 00:01:46.40\00:01:49.07 wine and see if it's true that a little wine 00:01:49.27\00:01:52.07 never hurt nobody. Roll it! And kick it to the right. 00:01:52.27\00:01:56.44 Thank you for joining us here in the studio of 00:02:35.58\00:02:37.95 From Sickness To Health. 00:02:38.15\00:02:39.52 We're so glad that you stuck around. 00:02:39.92\00:02:41.62 Today we have another exciting program to talk to you about 00:02:41.82\00:02:45.03 to share with you some information that you will find 00:02:45.23\00:02:48.46 helpful and useful. Now, we're going to be covering a topic 00:02:48.66\00:02:51.90 that a lot of people... There's a lot of confusion 00:02:52.10\00:02:54.50 surrounding this topic, and it's really temperance. 00:02:54.70\00:02:58.14 Temperance. We want to know today what is temperance. 00:02:58.54\00:03:01.04 And we're using wine and the use of alcohol 00:03:01.24\00:03:04.75 as a springboard. So we've got a lot to share with you today. 00:03:04.95\00:03:08.05 But before we get into the conversation with my esteemed 00:03:08.25\00:03:11.15 guests I want to say hello to our friend Sickness. 00:03:11.35\00:03:14.29 Where are you? What's going on? 00:03:14.49\00:03:15.82 Well, let's just say I didn't pass the test 00:03:15.99\00:03:18.89 so I'm going to encourage the local jail inmates. 00:03:19.29\00:03:22.73 Oh yes, officer... gotta go! 00:03:22.93\00:03:24.60 We'll hear back from him in a few moments. 00:03:25.80\00:03:28.07 I'm sure he's got more to share with us. 00:03:28.27\00:03:30.31 But let's introduce our guests. 00:03:30.51\00:03:32.91 All right. It's all right. Dr. Thomas Jackson is with us 00:03:36.98\00:03:39.95 today. We're glad to have you here with us once again. 00:03:40.15\00:03:42.72 He is a doctor of natural health sciences 00:03:42.92\00:03:47.26 and he's with his lovely wife, Dr. Laverne Jackson. 00:03:47.46\00:03:50.26 And she is a doctor of nutritional sciences. 00:03:50.46\00:03:53.90 Thank you for being here. Thank you for having us. 00:03:54.10\00:03:57.17 Ah yes, we're going to have fun today, aren't we? 00:03:57.37\00:03:58.70 It's already started, right? It's already started. 00:03:58.90\00:04:00.47 We can't leave out our other couple. 00:04:00.97\00:04:03.61 We like having couples here, and today we have also with us 00:04:03.81\00:04:06.54 Reidland Bredy and his lovely wife Sherry-Lynne Bredy. 00:04:06.78\00:04:09.24 Now he is a physical therapist and she is an occupational 00:04:09.54\00:04:12.15 therapist. Do you see how that matches together? 00:04:12.35\00:04:15.02 What a couple! Thank you so much for being with us. 00:04:15.22\00:04:16.79 Thank you, Rico. We appreciate your being here. 00:04:16.99\00:04:19.09 Now, so we're talking about... we're using wine as a 00:04:19.29\00:04:23.36 springboard because there's confusion around it. 00:04:23.56\00:04:25.26 But there are other items that we use as food 00:04:25.46\00:04:29.06 that also create a little bit of confusion... because why? 00:04:29.26\00:04:33.20 There are conflicting reports from the news 00:04:33.64\00:04:37.04 that tell us one day that it's good 00:04:37.24\00:04:38.97 and then the next day it's bad. Um-hmm. 00:04:39.17\00:04:40.51 One day it's good and then a report seemingly 00:04:40.88\00:04:44.78 from peer reviewed sources - 00:04:44.98\00:04:47.02 scientific resources, right? - 00:04:47.22\00:04:49.38 that say... that will come and contradict 00:04:49.58\00:04:52.52 the one that came out just a few days before. 00:04:52.72\00:04:54.26 What are we to do? 00:04:54.52\00:04:56.09 I think we have to go to a source that is reliable. 00:04:56.49\00:05:00.13 So what are we going to do? We go to the Bible! 00:05:00.33\00:05:02.23 We go the Bible. We go to the supreme source 00:05:02.43\00:05:05.27 of all information and of all knowledge. 00:05:05.47\00:05:08.00 So... we want to really deal with this today 00:05:08.20\00:05:09.77 by looking at what the Bible says is temperance, right? 00:05:10.01\00:05:14.18 That's right. So... before we do that... 00:05:14.34\00:05:17.25 let's go and figure out what happened to Sickness. OK. 00:05:17.45\00:05:20.62 I'm a little concerned about him... I'm a little concerned 00:05:20.82\00:05:23.59 so let's see where he is, if he got out of this mess. 00:05:23.79\00:05:25.79 Thank you, Rico... thank you very much. 00:05:28.29\00:05:30.33 You know, the youth of today are tomorrow's leaders. 00:05:30.53\00:05:33.93 We're here on a university campus where recreational 00:05:38.70\00:05:41.57 drug use and social drinking is cultivated. 00:05:41.77\00:05:45.34 You know, while cigarette smoking is down 00:05:45.54\00:05:48.24 marijuana usage is up... WAY UP! 00:05:48.44\00:05:52.48 But hey, that's a different subject for another time. 00:05:52.68\00:05:55.18 You know, let's talk about drinking specifically. 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.92 What would college be like without beer, wine, 00:05:59.12\00:06:03.73 and alcohol? It wouldn't be the same. 00:06:03.93\00:06:06.70 You see, the trick is the cool advertising during 00:06:06.90\00:06:09.50 the sporting events we watch. 00:06:09.70\00:06:11.43 Maybe it's the music... the dancing, the girls. 00:06:11.63\00:06:15.34 Look at all of these potential substance abusers! 00:06:16.37\00:06:20.28 You know, if you can get them to do some drugs 00:06:20.68\00:06:22.64 or a little alcohol their inhibitions go away. 00:06:22.84\00:06:27.82 When that happens you can get these folks 00:06:28.02\00:06:30.22 to do just about anything and everything 00:06:30.42\00:06:36.02 EXCEPT care for their health 00:06:36.42\00:06:39.03 or the health of others. 00:06:39.23\00:06:41.33 It's a beautiful thing. They'll even drink and drive. 00:06:41.53\00:06:44.70 Yeah. And do you think they care about health 00:06:45.10\00:06:47.44 or the health of others? 00:06:47.64\00:06:48.97 THIS is where they become our experts. 00:06:49.84\00:06:53.38 Back to you, Rico. 00:06:53.58\00:06:54.98 Well... it looks like our friend got out of a mess. 00:06:57.98\00:07:00.98 We're going to have to find out how he did, but let's go into 00:07:01.18\00:07:03.89 our discussion. So we have agreed that the Bible is our 00:07:04.09\00:07:08.32 supreme authority in this matter, and we have agreed... 00:07:08.52\00:07:12.66 we have agreed that wine is something that creates 00:07:13.06\00:07:16.70 confusion. Some people say drink it; 00:07:16.90\00:07:18.97 some people say don't. Some people say it's healthy 00:07:19.17\00:07:21.30 and good for the heart; others say it might cause 00:07:21.50\00:07:24.01 some other lifestyle diseases. 00:07:24.21\00:07:26.71 How do we get to what is actually true in this matter? 00:07:27.01\00:07:30.78 And we're going to go to this. 00:07:31.08\00:07:33.72 Isn't that right, Dr. Jackson? That is absolutely right. 00:07:33.92\00:07:36.18 He used the Bible in - that is, Sickness - 00:07:36.48\00:07:38.72 he used it in our little introduction there. 00:07:38.92\00:07:41.82 He said that: "a little wine is good. " 00:07:42.02\00:07:46.56 For the stomach. And you know what? 00:07:46.90\00:07:48.43 They're saying the same thing: "Wine is good. 00:07:49.73\00:07:53.34 I agree with that guy. " 00:07:53.54\00:07:55.44 What do you say? Well, it might catch you off guard. 00:07:55.64\00:07:58.14 I agree too. Oh! What? 00:07:58.44\00:08:01.18 Yes. A little wine is good for the stomach's sake. 00:08:01.38\00:08:04.98 However... I knew there was a however... 00:08:05.38\00:08:07.68 however, we need to let the Word of God define 00:08:08.65\00:08:11.62 what this wine is. All right... let's do it. 00:08:11.82\00:08:14.26 And we find that... Now Sickness quoted I Timothy chapter 5 00:08:14.42\00:08:18.99 verse 23. That's where, just in case our audience wants to know, 00:08:19.19\00:08:22.16 that's what he's quoting. And the fact is is that 00:08:22.36\00:08:24.63 we do believe that wine, but as we let the Bible explain 00:08:24.83\00:08:28.17 one of the places in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 8. 00:08:28.37\00:08:31.87 They might want to just jot that down. Can we go there? 00:08:32.07\00:08:35.28 Oh, we should go there. 00:08:35.48\00:08:36.85 Well, let's just go there. We're going to the book of Isaiah... 00:08:37.05\00:08:39.58 Isaiah chapter 65 and verse 8. 00:08:39.78\00:08:42.32 Yeah, that's just... Isaiah 65 and verse 8. 00:08:42.52\00:08:44.99 And because for the sake of time, we just look at this 00:08:45.19\00:08:47.29 verse, and anyone that really studies the Word of God... 00:08:47.49\00:08:49.96 In Isaiah 65 verse 8 notice what it says: 00:08:50.16\00:08:53.06 It says: "Thus says the Lord 00:08:53.40\00:08:55.80 as the new wine is found in the cluster. " 00:08:56.00\00:09:01.14 Wait a minute. Cluster... that suggests that 00:09:01.34\00:09:04.04 we're talking about fresh wine that is in the grape. 00:09:04.24\00:09:07.11 That's right. OK. And we must draw the conclusion 00:09:07.31\00:09:10.08 this is non-fermented grape. 00:09:10.28\00:09:13.55 Now you need to explain. What are we talking about when we say 00:09:13.75\00:09:16.28 fermented? Well we realize that when we're talking about 00:09:16.48\00:09:19.92 new wine in the cluster it has not been left over 00:09:20.16\00:09:24.86 to turn to what we call alcohol. 00:09:25.06\00:09:27.20 There is a bacteria that grows in there that creates a 00:09:27.40\00:09:29.93 fermentation that gives us that sensational feeling. 00:09:30.17\00:09:34.77 Um-hmm. Inebriation. It's inebriation... just like 00:09:34.97\00:09:36.81 food ferments, it's sour. It's sour? It's sour. 00:09:37.01\00:09:40.78 You have to let it sit in order for it to just mellow. 00:09:40.98\00:09:44.15 Thank you for explaining that. Let's continue. 00:09:44.31\00:09:46.08 And so here we find the new wine is found in the cluster. 00:09:46.28\00:09:49.82 "And one said: 'Destroy it not for... ' Why? 00:09:50.02\00:09:52.32 'a blessing is in it. ' " Oh, that's so clear. 00:09:52.52\00:09:55.99 So therefore this new wine 00:09:56.19\00:09:57.73 which is - they must draw the conclusion - is really pure 00:09:57.93\00:10:00.70 grape juice. You hear that? Grape juice! 00:10:00.90\00:10:04.17 Grape juice! Hey Rico! 00:10:04.47\00:10:07.34 Yes Sickness? Well let's just say that 00:10:07.67\00:10:10.81 the guy that was trying to take me away: he likes some 00:10:10.97\00:10:12.81 Twinkies and doughnuts... so I got totally out of that one. 00:10:13.01\00:10:16.21 But hey! I want to bring some light on this discussion. 00:10:16.41\00:10:18.55 There was a reason Jesus' first and most magnificent miracle 00:10:18.75\00:10:23.49 was turning water into wine. Gotcha! 00:10:23.69\00:10:27.79 Gotcha! Did he get us? 00:10:27.99\00:10:30.13 Does he have us? Does he have us? 00:10:30.33\00:10:33.03 I think he's played right into your hands. Oh! 00:10:33.23\00:10:35.43 Well let's break it down. 00:10:35.73\00:10:37.07 Just the fact is that that water to wine 00:10:37.17\00:10:39.23 because remember, we stated that this wine is new wine. 00:10:39.43\00:10:42.87 Is new wine! It's new wine. It's not fermented; it's not sour; 00:10:43.07\00:10:46.34 it's not mellowed. It's still in the cluster. It's still in 00:10:46.54\00:10:48.24 the cluster, so the water to wine: 00:10:48.44\00:10:51.81 fresh... no fermentation. God never, you know, 00:10:52.01\00:10:56.48 introduced into His ministry fermented wine. 00:10:56.69\00:10:59.69 This wine was fresh wine from the grapes you see. 00:10:59.89\00:11:03.63 Fresh wine. In fact, I believe 00:11:03.83\00:11:05.73 that it was said to Jesus: "You've saved the best. " 00:11:05.93\00:11:11.60 "For last. " And the Bible says, the new wine 00:11:11.80\00:11:15.30 is the best... it's the blessing. Is the blessing! 00:11:15.50\00:11:19.27 That's right. It's a blessing. 00:11:19.47\00:11:21.08 What are you? I hear something... 00:11:21.28\00:11:23.75 Well, all this conversation is excellent because 00:11:24.28\00:11:28.05 you know, it's important to differentiate between that 00:11:28.75\00:11:31.39 new wine that Dr. Jackson men- tioned and the fermented wine. 00:11:31.59\00:11:35.16 It's old. Yes, it's old and fermented. It's aged 00:11:35.36\00:11:38.23 just like cheese is, but we'll get on that later. 00:11:38.43\00:11:40.53 Anyway, so when Jesus did it... Jesus, knowing 00:11:40.93\00:11:46.43 the Old Testament very well, 00:11:46.63\00:11:49.90 He would quote from Proverbs 20 verse 1 00:11:50.11\00:11:53.01 "Wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging, 00:11:53.21\00:11:56.88 and whosoever is deceived by it is not wise. " 00:11:57.08\00:12:01.92 Wow! Period. 00:12:02.32\00:12:04.22 Now I want to remind us... I want to remind us that we're 00:12:04.42\00:12:06.96 now talking about what happens physically 00:12:07.16\00:12:10.43 as a result of wine and alcohol. 00:12:10.63\00:12:13.73 But do not think for a moment that we're not going to bring 00:12:14.13\00:12:17.20 this back around to the spiritual implications. 00:12:17.40\00:12:20.87 Is that right? Um-hmm. 00:12:21.07\00:12:22.50 So... All right... So... go ahead. 00:12:22.70\00:12:24.37 Just one more point as well 00:12:24.57\00:12:26.61 since we're talking about the overall theme of temperance. 00:12:26.81\00:12:29.81 Um-hmm. And one of my favorite quotes from the Bible is... 00:12:30.15\00:12:33.18 is I Thessalonians 5 where it says to "prove all things" - 00:12:33.62\00:12:37.69 um-hmm - "and hold fast to that which is good. " 00:12:37.89\00:12:40.96 OK. "Abstain from all appearance of evil. " 00:12:41.12\00:12:44.73 So there God is telling us, you know, "test everything. " 00:12:45.13\00:12:50.17 Make sure that it's according to the Word of God 00:12:50.37\00:12:52.50 and hold only to that which is good. 00:12:52.70\00:12:55.34 Because just as God created all things in creation 00:12:55.54\00:12:58.77 and said it was good it is good. 00:12:58.97\00:13:00.98 Those things that are good for your body that do not produce 00:13:01.38\00:13:04.05 any harm - um-hmm - is what we should cling to - 00:13:04.25\00:13:07.05 that's right - and then abstain from that which 00:13:07.25\00:13:09.78 has even the appearance - that's right - of evil. 00:13:10.19\00:13:13.12 Very good. Now, Sr. Jackson - yes - 00:13:13.36\00:13:16.56 your husband has pointed out that we're talking about grape 00:13:16.76\00:13:19.76 juice. Yes. So you as a doctor of nutritional sciences 00:13:20.00\00:13:25.50 you need to tell us what's in that grape juice 00:13:25.70\00:13:28.07 and what's in that wine that researchers are confused over. 00:13:28.47\00:13:31.81 Well, there is an antioxidant, resveratrol, that helps to 00:13:32.01\00:13:37.05 slow down the degeneration of the cells. 00:13:37.25\00:13:41.62 That's what's in that unfermented grape juice. 00:13:41.82\00:13:46.15 Ah... excellent. So we're talking about resveratrol 00:13:46.35\00:13:49.42 and it is an antioxidant. We know that that fights 00:13:49.62\00:13:52.06 free radicals, right? That's right. So there will not 00:13:52.26\00:13:55.13 be the stress that's on the cells 00:13:55.33\00:13:57.70 as it would be when we have something that is fermented. 00:13:57.90\00:14:02.50 That's right. And highly acidic. That's right. 00:14:02.70\00:14:04.84 That decreases the oxygen and also accelerates 00:14:05.04\00:14:08.01 the degeneration of those cells. 00:14:08.21\00:14:10.38 So... completely opposite! It's just the opposite. 00:14:10.58\00:14:12.61 Now when someone is having that acidic, fermented alcohol 00:14:12.81\00:14:16.35 or a mixed drink or wine or whatever you want to 00:14:16.79\00:14:20.66 call it, oftentimes we see that people have gotten into 00:14:20.86\00:14:24.46 some serious issues beyond what we saw with Sickness. 00:14:24.66\00:14:27.73 We're talking about accidents. Um-hmm. 00:14:27.93\00:14:30.07 We're talking about people having serious car accidents. 00:14:30.27\00:14:33.54 Totaling cars. The drunk driver... you've heard the 00:14:33.74\00:14:35.20 story: they wreck their car. They walk away with a 00:14:35.40\00:14:39.14 scratch, but oftentimes people are killed 00:14:39.34\00:14:41.48 or they're maimed or they have to go through some 00:14:41.68\00:14:43.65 serious rehabilitation with an occupational therapist. 00:14:43.85\00:14:47.82 Is that right? What are you seeing? 00:14:48.02\00:14:50.12 Yeah. I work a lot with patients who have traumatic 00:14:50.32\00:14:53.19 brain injuries, and usually because of car accidents. 00:14:53.39\00:14:56.62 And they're usually inebriated. 00:14:56.83\00:14:58.39 So all those damaged cells that you were talking about 00:14:58.69\00:15:01.16 is damaging their brain. So they have a hard time walking. 00:15:01.36\00:15:04.90 They have blurred vision, loss of memory. 00:15:05.10\00:15:07.44 Some of them even have blackouts. 00:15:07.64\00:15:09.24 That's usually what's causing those car accidents. 00:15:09.44\00:15:11.77 A lot of them are the young people in their 20's, 30's 00:15:11.97\00:15:14.78 and even... College age. College age. 00:15:14.98\00:15:16.64 They are the ones that end up with brain injuries. 00:15:16.85\00:15:19.08 And they usually have to live at home. They can't function 00:15:19.28\00:15:21.98 as much... can't work. 00:15:22.18\00:15:23.52 And we just have to try to do out best to get them 00:15:23.59\00:15:25.59 back and rehabilitated so they can at least be 00:15:25.79\00:15:27.86 independent again. Wow! So we see that what 00:15:28.06\00:15:31.33 Sickness was sharing with us wasn't too far off the mark. 00:15:31.53\00:15:34.53 No. You get them started in college, start drinking there. 00:15:34.73\00:15:38.50 And he said that they will not really care not only about 00:15:38.70\00:15:42.27 their own health but even the safety and the health 00:15:42.47\00:15:44.37 of others. Now if God is a loving God, 00:15:44.57\00:15:48.41 why would He produce something 00:15:48.91\00:15:51.61 that would cause people to have this kind of behavior? 00:15:51.81\00:15:54.32 Now I know what people are saying... would say: 00:15:54.48\00:15:55.82 "It should be done in moderation. " 00:15:55.92\00:15:58.19 That's a good thing just like the temperance. 00:15:58.39\00:15:59.85 That's right. I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said: 00:16:00.06\00:16:02.22 "Moderation in all things including moderation. " 00:16:02.42\00:16:06.90 Very true. I don't even know what to do with that. 00:16:08.46\00:16:11.30 And a lot of others have said something similar. 00:16:11.50\00:16:13.20 So we need to look at a clip here because it's confusing. 00:16:13.44\00:16:16.10 And not only with wine - and we're going to come back 00:16:16.40\00:16:19.17 to wine - but also with coffee... caffeine. 00:16:19.37\00:16:22.18 And I have some clips that we put together that show 00:16:22.38\00:16:24.51 that not even the experts agree! Ummm! 00:16:24.71\00:16:27.78 So let's take a look at that clip. 00:16:27.98\00:16:29.52 A new study published this week shows that the caffeine 00:16:30.79\00:16:33.66 in 3 cups of coffee a day 00:16:33.86\00:16:35.86 may actually help reduce the risk of Alzheimer's 00:16:36.06\00:16:39.06 and prevent memory loss. 00:16:39.26\00:16:41.33 The headline is: for men under 55 00:16:41.53\00:16:43.87 more than 4 cups a day meant a 56% increased 00:16:44.07\00:16:47.64 risk of an early death. 00:16:47.84\00:16:49.47 For women it was 113%. 00:16:49.67\00:16:52.91 Everything in moderation. Linzie Janis, ABC News. 00:16:53.11\00:16:57.05 Single skim latte. A new study suggests you 00:16:57.25\00:17:01.55 may want to increase that shot to a double or even triple 00:17:01.75\00:17:04.89 because coffee may be the key to a longer life. 00:17:05.19\00:17:07.89 Even a single cup a day could modestly improve longevity, 00:17:08.09\00:17:10.99 although the report didn't say by how much. 00:17:11.19\00:17:13.53 So what this study does is gives a little bit of reassurance 00:17:13.93\00:17:16.60 to us when we're drinking our coffee in the morning. 00:17:16.80\00:17:18.87 We're a little more assured that the coffee isn't going to 00:17:19.27\00:17:22.17 have adverse effects on our health. 00:17:22.37\00:17:24.11 The study shows coffee drinkers were less likely to 00:17:24.31\00:17:26.37 die from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, injuries and 00:17:26.57\00:17:29.24 infections than those who didn't drink it. 00:17:29.44\00:17:31.51 But it's not clear why. 00:17:31.71\00:17:33.15 The authors caution the results don't outright prove 00:17:33.75\00:17:36.58 coffee has the power to stave off death. 00:17:36.79\00:17:38.72 And I tell you no one cup of coffee is going to kill you, 00:17:39.45\00:17:42.12 but the study has made a lot of people wonder 00:17:42.32\00:17:44.46 if I'm drinking a lot of coffee day after day 00:17:44.66\00:17:47.00 what's it going to do to me? 00:17:47.20\00:17:48.53 Well, we have some answers for you. 00:17:48.56\00:17:50.27 Conflicting studies about coffee and your health 00:17:52.83\00:17:55.27 are brewing up confusion. 00:17:55.47\00:17:57.64 I don't know... is it good for me? Is it bad? 00:17:57.84\00:18:00.71 I mean: should I drink it? Should I not? 00:18:00.91\00:18:02.41 I find the information confusing, but I just drink 00:18:02.61\00:18:06.25 it anyway. Like I drink like ten cups a day. 00:18:06.45\00:18:09.35 But a recent study says may be should learn to live 00:18:09.55\00:18:12.15 without it or perhaps not quite so much of it. 00:18:12.35\00:18:14.69 The study found that people under age 55 00:18:14.99\00:18:17.66 who drank four or more cups a day 00:18:17.86\00:18:19.63 were 50% more likely to die during the course of the 00:18:19.83\00:18:23.23 16-year study. And we're talking about 8 ounce cups of coffee... 00:18:23.47\00:18:27.24 not the giant drinks that many people like to order. 00:18:27.44\00:18:29.90 Coffee might hurt you by increasing your chances 00:18:30.91\00:18:33.38 of getting gastrointestinal cancer. 00:18:33.58\00:18:35.71 Plus... the stimulant from coffee with caffeine could 00:18:35.91\00:18:39.05 cause irregular heart rhythms. BUT... and it's a big BUT... 00:18:39.25\00:18:44.09 several other studies have found that coffee is actually 00:18:44.45\00:18:47.16 good for you decreasing the likelihood 00:18:47.36\00:18:49.22 that you'll get Alzheimer's, type II diabetes, 00:18:49.42\00:18:51.93 and other diseases. 00:18:52.13\00:18:53.50 So what's a java lover to do? 00:18:53.70\00:18:55.50 When you smell coffee you know it's time to get your day going. 00:18:55.70\00:18:58.87 Some doctors say you can hedge your bets. 00:18:59.07\00:19:01.57 Mark Twain once said: "Everything in moderation... " 00:19:01.87\00:19:04.41 Well... you see the confusion. 00:19:05.41\00:19:07.71 It could stave off Alzheimer's disease. 00:19:08.11\00:19:11.55 It could help with stroke and heart disease. 00:19:11.75\00:19:14.35 At the same time those who drink coffee 00:19:14.75\00:19:17.39 they have an early death. 00:19:18.52\00:19:20.66 What's the truth? 00:19:21.02\00:19:22.66 They said themselves that there's a lot of confusion. 00:19:23.06\00:19:26.43 That's right. Now... where does this confusion come from? 00:19:26.63\00:19:29.30 And we talked about the wine and we talked about the 00:19:29.50\00:19:31.07 antioxidants and that. And we know that coffee also 00:19:31.27\00:19:34.14 is rich in antioxidants. Um-hmm. So maybe they're 00:19:34.34\00:19:36.57 looking at that but they're not looking at some other 00:19:36.81\00:19:39.04 more dangerous effects of it. That's right. 00:19:39.24\00:19:40.78 So there's a mixing here. There's a mixture. 00:19:40.98\00:19:42.64 And mixing is giving us confusion. 00:19:42.84\00:19:44.71 What does the Bible say? Well, we know even in the book 00:19:45.11\00:19:47.15 of Proverbs 23 talks about do not look at mixed drinks. 00:19:47.35\00:19:50.99 Wine is mixed. And we talk about this cup. 00:19:51.15\00:19:53.69 And we understand the Word of God - even in the book 00:19:53.89\00:19:56.46 of Revelation chapter 14 verse 8... 7 and 8... 00:19:56.66\00:19:59.59 there's a church, there's a woman that's holding a cup. 00:20:00.00\00:20:03.60 That's right. Had a cup full of wine. 00:20:03.80\00:20:06.10 Roll over to chapter 16, chapter 17, 00:20:06.30\00:20:08.74 it talks about this cup is full of abomination. 00:20:08.94\00:20:11.71 Um-hmm. And so there's a mixture. 00:20:11.91\00:20:13.58 And we find that even in the Garden of Eden 00:20:13.78\00:20:16.34 Satan gave almost 90% truth and another 10% error. 00:20:16.54\00:20:21.95 It's a mixture. So here we have confusion. 00:20:22.15\00:20:24.79 So how do we draw the conclusion then? 00:20:24.99\00:20:27.09 God is not a God of confusion. 00:20:27.29\00:20:29.26 He's not the author of confusion. 00:20:29.46\00:20:31.26 In the book of James it tells us that how can a fountain give 00:20:31.46\00:20:33.70 both sweet and bitter. 00:20:33.90\00:20:35.43 So either God is true or He's a liar. God said wine is a mocker. 00:20:35.83\00:20:39.23 Coffee is a stimulant... therefore it's addictive. 00:20:39.83\00:20:43.41 In Proverbs chapter 23 verse 35 it says: "They have 00:20:43.61\00:20:47.18 stricken me. Shall they say 'And I was not sick? 00:20:47.38\00:20:50.15 They have beaten me and yet I felt it not. 00:20:50.55\00:20:53.25 When should I wake I will seek it again'. " And again. 00:20:53.45\00:20:56.35 And so we find then that confusion. 00:20:56.55\00:20:59.22 Just like in the physical world there's confusion within... 00:20:59.62\00:21:02.42 among churches today because there's a mixture 00:21:02.62\00:21:04.83 of truth and error. Wow! Wow! 00:21:05.03\00:21:07.60 Now what was the text you just gave? 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.23 This here? In Proverbs chapter 23 and verse 35. 00:21:09.43\00:21:12.57 Proverbs chapter 23 and verse 35. 00:21:12.77\00:21:15.77 All the texts that we give you, especially in this program, 00:21:16.17\00:21:18.94 you want to go and you want to look them up yourself 00:21:19.14\00:21:21.01 and allow the Spirit of God to show you exactly 00:21:21.21\00:21:26.05 what you need to do and have a clear understanding 00:21:26.25\00:21:28.78 of these things. So... now... 00:21:28.98\00:21:31.35 I like where you went. You talked about Adam and Eve 00:21:31.55\00:21:33.56 in the garden - that's right - that it was a mixture. 00:21:33.76\00:21:36.26 But God told Eve not to go! Um-hmm. 00:21:36.46\00:21:40.10 I love this. In the few moments we have left 00:21:40.30\00:21:43.50 let's talk about this and then let's get back to this 00:21:43.97\00:21:45.43 wine thing. Um-hmm. So God said 00:21:45.63\00:21:48.77 "of all the trees in the garden you may freely eat, " 00:21:48.97\00:21:52.67 right? So of course they understood that they weren't 00:21:52.87\00:21:55.91 supposed to eat and become gluttons. 00:21:56.11\00:21:57.65 But they had access to all the trees. All the trees. 00:21:57.81\00:22:00.92 But then one specific tree He said: "You may not eat of 00:22:01.08\00:22:04.52 that tree, for in the day that you do you shall surely die. " 00:22:04.75\00:22:08.22 Now what was it about that tree in the garden? 00:22:08.42\00:22:11.59 It had... It was the tree of the knowledge of 00:22:11.99\00:22:15.76 good and evil. 00:22:16.16\00:22:20.37 So there was a mixture that made it... 00:22:20.57\00:22:24.11 Was the fruit evil of that tree? No! 00:22:24.47\00:22:26.91 Was the tree evil? No! 00:22:27.11\00:22:28.51 Perhaps it was who was at the tree - umm! - 00:22:28.71\00:22:31.08 who knew good and evil. Who knew good and evil. 00:22:32.38\00:22:34.95 Let's talk about that for a few moments 00:22:35.85\00:22:37.19 in the time we have left. 00:22:37.22\00:22:38.92 Well, yeah... There's a very good point in bringing that up. 00:22:39.32\00:22:43.53 The tree itself or the fruit itself was not what's bad... 00:22:43.73\00:22:46.53 was not what condemned Eve to die - um-hmm - 00:22:46.73\00:22:49.50 or to death... the process of death. 00:22:49.70\00:22:52.60 It was the fact that Satan, who was once the cherub 00:22:52.80\00:22:56.50 in the presence of God overlooking the most holy place 00:22:56.71\00:23:00.78 where God dwells, knew the goodness of God. 00:23:00.98\00:23:04.28 And then iniquity was found in him. 00:23:04.48\00:23:06.92 Now he had knowledge of both good and evil 00:23:07.22\00:23:11.22 and he used it just like he uses it now for all of us. 00:23:11.42\00:23:14.66 He gives you truth with just sprinkled... 00:23:15.06\00:23:17.93 Like these? Like this... exactly! 00:23:18.13\00:23:20.70 The premise is... If there is, for example, arsenic: 00:23:20.90\00:23:24.17 if you put a drop in a glass of water... 00:23:24.33\00:23:27.24 How much of a drop? Hah... just a drop. 00:23:27.44\00:23:28.90 One drop. One drop... in how much water? 00:23:29.10\00:23:31.07 In a cup of water. A cup of water. 00:23:31.27\00:23:33.48 In a cup of water. Arsenic is odorless; 00:23:33.68\00:23:35.81 it's tasteless; it's colorless. 00:23:36.01\00:23:39.21 You can't tell that it's in the water. However, 00:23:39.41\00:23:41.22 it will kill you. Wow! It WILL kill you. 00:23:41.42\00:23:44.69 Mixture of truth and error. 00:23:44.89\00:23:47.46 Satan himself, Garden of Eden. Matthew 4 in the wilderness 00:23:47.66\00:23:52.19 of temptation Satan quoted scripture. 00:23:52.39\00:23:54.73 Psalm 91. Um-hmm. Left out part of the scripture. 00:23:54.93\00:23:58.07 So it's always a mixture of truth and error. 00:23:58.27\00:24:00.17 In the book of II Thessalonians chapter 2 00:24:00.37\00:24:03.61 it talks about when we don't have a love for the truth 00:24:03.81\00:24:06.81 we will believe a lie. 00:24:07.01\00:24:08.54 We find that people are confused. To know the truth 00:24:08.84\00:24:11.91 will prevent us from accepting a lie. 00:24:12.11\00:24:14.52 To know the truth about temperance and wine 00:24:14.72\00:24:18.12 will set us free. Otherwise, we will set ourselves up believing 00:24:18.32\00:24:22.02 that a little wine is good for the heart. 00:24:22.22\00:24:25.76 Or a little wine "never hurt nobody" 00:24:25.96\00:24:28.26 as we heard at the beginning. That's right. But 00:24:28.46\00:24:30.00 a little arsenic can kill you. So this mixing, this mixer 00:24:30.20\00:24:35.07 is the problem. Is the problem. The confusion... 00:24:35.27\00:24:38.34 the confusion. You've heard the confusion. 00:24:38.54\00:24:41.01 We've tried to just stick with what the Word of God says. 00:24:41.21\00:24:43.98 And I think that you have seen from what we have shown 00:24:44.28\00:24:47.05 that it is a clear, clear mandate from the Word of God 00:24:47.25\00:24:51.72 that we are to take the wine not when it's fermented but 00:24:51.92\00:24:56.56 from the cluster. That's when it's good! 00:24:56.76\00:24:59.16 So we don't want to mix truth and error. 00:24:59.36\00:25:01.33 We just want the truth. You've heard it here today. 00:25:01.53\00:25:03.57 We look forward to seeing you on another program. 00:25:03.77\00:25:05.83 The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12 00:25:08.47\00:25:11.34 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood 00:25:11.74\00:25:13.98 but against principalities, against powers, 00:25:14.18\00:25:16.04 against the rulers of darkness of this world, 00:25:16.24\00:25:18.81 against spiritual wickedness in high places. " 00:25:19.01\00:25:22.25 There is a concerted effort to capture the youth 00:25:22.45\00:25:26.22 and begin to take them down a path of destruction 00:25:26.42\00:25:30.03 so that when they're adults 00:25:30.43\00:25:32.36 their behaviors destroy the entire family. 00:25:32.56\00:25:35.93 I know this personally since I saw it growing up 00:25:36.13\00:25:39.80 as it happened to my father and the impact almost destroyed 00:25:40.24\00:25:44.04 our family. But the Lord promised 00:25:44.24\00:25:46.34 in Psalm 103 verse 3 and 4 00:25:46.54\00:25:49.78 that He'll forgive us, heal our diseases, 00:25:49.98\00:25:53.05 and redeem us from destruction. 00:25:53.25\00:25:55.75 We learned today that drinking - even socially - 00:25:56.15\00:25:59.05 could lead to addiction, sickness, and disease. 00:25:59.25\00:26:03.46 You know, Rico, you and your guests have made a 00:26:04.39\00:26:08.26 compelling argument against social drinking. 00:26:08.46\00:26:10.77 Like King Agrippa, you almost persuade me to stop. 00:26:11.00\00:26:14.27 Wow, really? NOT! It went in one blue ear 00:26:15.24\00:26:18.61 and out the other just like all these viewers. 00:26:18.81\00:26:21.54 Because you know why? They want to enjoy life. 00:26:21.74\00:26:23.55 They want to have fun. They want to enjoy a little buzz 00:26:23.75\00:26:26.55 because it makes life better. And so what if there's lifestyle 00:26:26.75\00:26:30.09 diseases and liver problems and other things along the way. 00:26:30.29\00:26:33.76 The idea is living for the moment. 00:26:34.06\00:26:36.29 You know, if you control the moment you control the mind. 00:26:36.49\00:26:39.59 And if you control the mind you control everything. 00:26:40.00\00:26:43.77 Hmmm. Well listen, friends, 00:26:43.97\00:26:47.07 we are truly in a battle for the minds of our children, 00:26:47.27\00:26:50.51 the health of our bodies, and the peace and happiness 00:26:50.71\00:26:53.51 of our families. Remember that we don't wrestle with 00:26:53.71\00:26:57.65 a liquid or a TV ad or even the people who produce them. 00:26:58.01\00:27:02.75 And this bears repeating; 00:27:03.05\00:27:04.69 "We wrestle not against flesh and blood 00:27:04.89\00:27:07.49 but against principalities, against powers, 00:27:07.69\00:27:09.92 against the rulers of the darkness of this world, 00:27:10.13\00:27:12.69 against spiritual wickedness in high places. " 00:27:12.89\00:27:15.83 But we have a Savior, and He has promised to redeem us 00:27:16.03\00:27:20.14 from the hand of the enemy. I'm a redeemed witness 00:27:20.34\00:27:24.57 and I'm saying so. "Beloved, 00:27:24.77\00:27:28.38 I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper 00:27:28.58\00:27:30.55 and be in health. " I'm Rico Hill; 00:27:30.75\00:27:33.42 I'm Sickness. Maranatha. 00:27:33.82\00:27:36.99
