Hello and welcome to From Sickness To Health. 00:00:03.20\00:00:05.33 I'm your host Rico Hill and I'm Sickness. 00:00:05.63\00:00:08.30 And today I would like to begin the program by quoting 00:00:08.50\00:00:11.44 Isaiah 26 and verse 3. It says: 00:00:11.64\00:00:14.34 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace 00:00:14.54\00:00:17.41 whose mind is stayed on Thee 00:00:17.61\00:00:20.42 because he trusteth in Thee. " 00:00:20.62\00:00:23.15 Isn't that an encouraging scripture? Yeah... 00:00:23.45\00:00:26.82 if you live in a bubble and nothing bothers you. 00:00:27.02\00:00:29.89 What do you mean by that? I mean let's be honest: 00:00:30.09\00:00:32.43 life is stressful. People have worries. 00:00:32.63\00:00:34.73 Kids are stressful; your job is stressful. 00:00:34.93\00:00:37.30 Your spouse gets on your last nerve. 00:00:37.50\00:00:39.23 Health nuts... stress... but hey, I actually enjoy it. 00:00:39.43\00:00:42.74 You enjoy stress? Oh, I love it! 00:00:42.94\00:00:46.24 Think about it. When people are stressed the biochemistry 00:00:46.44\00:00:48.61 goes crazy. They're more susceptible to disease 00:00:48.81\00:00:51.81 and sickness... I find my way in there. 00:00:52.01\00:00:55.12 And that's what you like? Oh I love it! I love attention! 00:00:55.32\00:00:57.85 Oh it figures! Well I need you to know that's not going to 00:00:58.15\00:01:01.06 happen here today because today our topic is 00:01:01.26\00:01:04.93 stress: When You're Too Stressed To Be Blessed. 00:01:05.13\00:01:09.16 What do you mean that's not going to happen? 00:01:09.36\00:01:10.70 Well it's not going to happen because I'm not going to let you 00:01:10.80\00:01:12.70 stress me out and anybody else out. 00:01:12.90\00:01:14.90 Oh-ho... how you gonna do that? 00:01:15.10\00:01:16.60 Well it's easy. See, I just start the program. 00:01:16.81\00:01:19.57 Roll it! That's how I do it. 00:01:19.77\00:01:21.98 Thank you for joining us here in the studio of 00:01:58.18\00:02:00.48 From Sickness To Health. 00:02:00.68\00:02:02.02 We have a rock solid program for you today. 00:02:02.05\00:02:04.95 And we want to just first start by saying hello to our 00:02:05.15\00:02:07.62 friend and co-host Sickness who is remote 00:02:07.82\00:02:11.86 somewhere stressing somebody out I'm sure. 00:02:12.06\00:02:14.50 I know that you're going to be working with somebody 00:02:14.90\00:02:17.17 somewhere in an office causing stress, so we'll be 00:02:17.37\00:02:20.00 talking to you in a few moments. But in the meantime 00:02:20.20\00:02:22.30 I want to introduce to you the guests - our experts - 00:02:22.50\00:02:24.94 today. And we have with us once again Dr. Thomas Jackson 00:02:25.14\00:02:28.44 who is a doctor of natural health sciences. 00:02:28.64\00:02:32.58 But also he runs a ministry, a gospel medical missionary 00:02:32.78\00:02:37.19 ministry in Huntingdon, TN, where he is the speaker 00:02:37.39\00:02:39.92 and director... I think for something like 38 years. 00:02:40.12\00:02:43.06 Is that right? Yes. Well we're glad you're here today. 00:02:43.26\00:02:45.46 Welcome to the program. Oh, good to be here again. 00:02:45.66\00:02:47.63 Oh, we're glad you're here. And joining us today also is 00:02:47.83\00:02:50.47 Dr. Camille Clark who is specializing in internal 00:02:50.67\00:02:54.54 medicine. Thank you for being here today. 00:02:54.74\00:02:56.44 Thanks for having me. We're going to talk about stress. 00:02:56.64\00:02:58.47 We are. We're going to talk about stress! We are. 00:02:58.67\00:03:00.01 You're not stressed out, are you? 00:03:00.14\00:03:02.58 Look at that smile on her face. She can't be... 00:03:02.78\00:03:05.65 There might be stress but therefore she is doing 00:03:05.85\00:03:07.95 a good job handling that stress. That's right! That's right! 00:03:08.15\00:03:10.65 Now I want to do something a little different today. 00:03:10.95\00:03:12.72 I want to start out by showing a video 00:03:12.92\00:03:15.26 that really puts into perspective what stress is. 00:03:15.66\00:03:18.79 How it affects the body. So we're going to run that video 00:03:18.99\00:03:21.40 and then we're going to go check in with Sickness 00:03:21.60\00:03:24.67 where he is. Let's roll the video. 00:03:24.87\00:03:26.43 Your body: stress affects everything within us. 00:03:27.84\00:03:31.47 Look at what stress does. 00:03:31.67\00:03:33.01 You know stress is one of those things that oftentimes 00:03:33.14\00:03:35.18 starts in the brain. Your hypothalamus signals your 00:03:35.38\00:03:37.91 pituitary. The pituitary then signals something called your 00:03:38.11\00:03:41.62 adrenal glands. Your adrenal glands live above your kidneys 00:03:41.82\00:03:45.25 and they release something called epinephrine 00:03:45.45\00:03:48.06 as well as other stress hormones commonly thought of as 00:03:48.26\00:03:50.39 adrenaline. Adrenaline then affects your liver 00:03:50.59\00:03:52.46 because your liver wants to increase the amount of glucose 00:03:52.66\00:03:54.30 in your system. What also happens with stress hormones 00:03:54.50\00:03:57.03 is your heart beats faster. Your blood pressure goes up, 00:03:57.23\00:04:00.04 over time increasing your risk for heart attacks, 00:04:00.24\00:04:02.40 strokes... very dangerous things. 00:04:02.60\00:04:05.04 But you know what? It doesn't just affect your cardiovascular 00:04:05.24\00:04:07.51 system. It also increases in- flammation throughout your body 00:04:07.71\00:04:10.91 including in your arteries. You know what? It even affects 00:04:11.11\00:04:14.02 people's breathing... hyperventilation 00:04:14.22\00:04:16.62 and other things when you become too stressed. 00:04:16.82\00:04:19.22 So hey, what about your GI tract? 00:04:19.42\00:04:21.72 People can have nausea, vomiting, stress ulcers. 00:04:21.92\00:04:25.39 I know some people that when they get stressed 00:04:25.59\00:04:28.50 they actually develop constipation or diarrhea. 00:04:28.70\00:04:31.23 So what you're looking at there is an animation 00:04:31.43\00:04:34.14 of every single essential organ system in the body 00:04:34.30\00:04:38.14 being affected by something called stress. 00:04:38.34\00:04:41.24 And when 80% of Americans report feeling stress in their 00:04:41.44\00:04:45.15 lives or being overstressed this is a major problem! 00:04:45.35\00:04:48.55 A major problem. Hmm. Doctors: most people don't know 00:04:49.68\00:04:53.49 that stress impacts the body in such a universal way as this, 00:04:53.69\00:04:58.89 do they? That's true... very true. 00:04:59.09\00:05:00.70 Well... go ahead. And you find that most of us don't realize 00:05:00.90\00:05:04.40 that probably 9/10 of our sickness is the result of 00:05:04.60\00:05:08.64 probably not knowing how to manage stress. 00:05:08.84\00:05:11.41 It might not be an initiator of sickness but a promoter. 00:05:11.61\00:05:15.94 It might accompany like improper eating... 00:05:16.14\00:05:20.58 stress added to that. And so we do not address those things. 00:05:20.78\00:05:24.32 We might address maybe the physiological aspect of sickness 00:05:24.52\00:05:28.29 but never the emotions and the mental disposition 00:05:28.49\00:05:31.83 that it has upon our health. 00:05:32.03\00:05:34.50 Well, we're going to talk about that because we're going to look 00:05:34.70\00:05:36.97 at all the various health laws as we call them - um-hmm - 00:05:37.17\00:05:41.57 that can... when you violate them, when you don't do 00:05:41.77\00:05:44.27 them or do too much or you're intemperate or whatever 00:05:44.47\00:05:46.51 how it will bring on stress. Before we get into that 00:05:46.71\00:05:49.38 we want to see how in a practical way 00:05:49.68\00:05:52.28 how Sickness might be stressing someone out. 00:05:52.48\00:05:55.58 So let's turn to the monitor and see what's going on there. 00:05:55.78\00:05:58.72 Hello Rico. I'm here in the office of a great 00:06:03.96\00:06:07.40 stress candidate. You know the thing I love about stress 00:06:07.60\00:06:11.20 is that just about anything can trigger it... 00:06:11.40\00:06:15.17 especially all these noises and confusion. 00:06:15.37\00:06:18.84 Notice how it works, like when something falls on the floor 00:06:19.04\00:06:23.55 and breaks. 00:06:23.75\00:06:25.41 Yeah... or all these phones going off. 00:06:26.82\00:06:29.42 Just ringing and ringing. It's bill collectors 00:06:29.62\00:06:32.19 and telemarketers. Oh! You're stressing out! 00:06:32.39\00:06:35.02 Oh by the way, her boss just called. 00:06:35.22\00:06:38.53 He needs a report on his desk by the end of the day 00:06:38.93\00:06:41.93 or else. Imagine that for stress. Oh-ho... 00:06:42.13\00:06:45.73 You need something to eat: some comfort food 00:06:45.93\00:06:49.00 right about now like some fast food or a candy bar. 00:06:49.20\00:06:52.64 But you and I know a little sugar... that'll just add 00:06:53.34\00:06:56.54 to her stress level. Um-hmm... tastes so good. 00:06:56.75\00:07:00.82 Last night she didn't get any sleep. 00:07:01.08\00:07:03.05 She was stressing about what the day would bring. 00:07:03.25\00:07:05.59 Oh yeah, you know right about now you should get a workout in. 00:07:05.79\00:07:09.56 Um-hmm. But you don't have time for that. 00:07:09.86\00:07:11.89 Look at all those e-mails. Umm, keep typing. 00:07:12.09\00:07:15.43 Give your fingers some exercise. 00:07:15.63\00:07:17.13 You know, how about some water? That'll help your stress level. 00:07:17.53\00:07:20.37 Naah... let's go for exercising with coffee! 00:07:20.67\00:07:25.47 Mmm... I'm going to pour you some nice coffee here. 00:07:25.67\00:07:28.68 That'll give you the energy 'cause you didn't get any sleep. 00:07:28.98\00:07:32.25 Now her nerves are going to be wrecked. 00:07:33.11\00:07:37.49 She won't just be stressed... she'll be anxious, too. 00:07:37.69\00:07:40.79 Back to you Rico. 00:07:41.19\00:07:42.62 Wow... poor lady. You know, she almost looked a little familiar 00:07:47.06\00:07:51.13 to me. But let's talk about this situation. 00:07:51.33\00:07:54.37 Now she was - like most people - 00:07:54.57\00:07:57.34 unaware of all of these factors and how they 00:07:57.54\00:08:00.38 were impacting her... namely the caffeine 00:08:00.58\00:08:04.28 that was also found not only in the coffee but also in the 00:08:04.68\00:08:07.42 candy bar. Didn't get enough rest; didn't get enough sleep. 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.89 Yeah, we're going to talk about all that, but 00:08:11.25\00:08:13.36 we want to just kind of look at stress. 00:08:13.86\00:08:16.62 Let's really break it down. 00:08:16.83\00:08:18.16 What is stress? What is it? 00:08:18.39\00:08:21.50 I'm glad you asked that question, Rico, because 00:08:21.90\00:08:23.93 stress is very common. It's something that we all 00:08:24.63\00:08:27.67 have to deal with, all have to face. 00:08:27.87\00:08:29.67 We have something called stress sores. 00:08:29.87\00:08:32.14 So as was mentioned before there are a lot of things 00:08:32.34\00:08:35.74 in our lives that can cause stress. 00:08:35.94\00:08:37.85 It can be family; it can be responsibilities; 00:08:38.05\00:08:40.22 it can be job; it can be finances... deadlines. 00:08:40.42\00:08:43.18 And stress is actually our reaction to it. 00:08:43.49\00:08:46.19 And even going back to the video there, they mentioned 00:08:46.59\00:08:48.49 what happens in the body on a physiological level when 00:08:48.69\00:08:51.63 you are stressed out. So your heart pumps faster - um-hmm - 00:08:51.83\00:08:55.36 trying to deliver blood. Your GI system is 00:08:55.56\00:08:58.90 not stopping to digest because there are more important things 00:08:59.10\00:09:02.04 to take care of right now. You don't need to be eating your 00:09:02.24\00:09:04.51 food but you need to be utilizing your energy. 00:09:04.71\00:09:06.54 So there are positive reactions to stress 00:09:06.94\00:09:10.75 and negative reactions to stress. 00:09:10.95\00:09:12.51 For instance, if a bear comes out when you're walking 00:09:12.71\00:09:15.12 on the hill, is that time to relax? Take it easy? 00:09:15.32\00:09:19.35 It's time to run! It's time to run or fight. 00:09:19.55\00:09:21.16 That's right! That's what you're referring to: the fight 00:09:21.36\00:09:23.99 or flight response. Absolutely, the sympathetic response. 00:09:24.19\00:09:27.13 That's a sympathetic response. Absolutely! 00:09:27.33\00:09:28.86 So in that moment your heart's beating faster, 00:09:29.06\00:09:32.90 your digestive system cooling down a little bit 00:09:33.10\00:09:36.37 so that you can deal with that immediate... Get a rush of 00:09:36.57\00:09:38.51 adrenaline. Absolutely. So you need that adrenaline; 00:09:38.71\00:09:41.08 you need that epinephrine. You need all of that to react. 00:09:41.28\00:09:43.91 But the danger comes in when you're dealing with that 00:09:44.31\00:09:46.82 on a constant basis - on a constant basis - 00:09:47.02\00:09:49.98 and it's having a continual effect on your body 00:09:50.19\00:09:53.05 and wearing out your system and you're keeping on going 00:09:53.36\00:09:57.29 and not taking that time to rest, to relax, to rejuvenate. 00:09:57.49\00:10:01.16 'Cause our bodies were not made to continually be under 00:10:01.36\00:10:05.03 that amount of stress. That's right. You know, what's 00:10:05.23\00:10:06.67 interesting is that you talk about the bear. 00:10:06.87\00:10:08.80 I won't tell the story now but there was one time that 00:10:09.00\00:10:12.11 that I was on a hike and I was chased by a bear. 00:10:12.31\00:10:14.54 And I know a little something about adrenaline coming 00:10:14.74\00:10:16.08 about adrenaline coming out of your system and just going 00:10:16.11\00:10:17.98 out of your system and just going through your system - 00:10:18.18\00:10:20.98 right - so that you can run. 00:10:21.18\00:10:22.52 Now I'm here today because of adrenaline. 00:10:22.55\00:10:25.09 Now I don't want to hold you to that, but you know, I've done 00:10:25.99\00:10:28.49 a little research on bears here and I heard that they can 00:10:28.79\00:10:32.26 in a straight line they can run the speed 19.6 seconds. 00:10:32.73\00:10:38.13 That's right, that's right... but you know what? 00:10:38.33\00:10:39.93 There's something called angels. OK, come on now. 00:10:40.14\00:10:42.10 So I had a little bit... I had some double aid: a little bit 00:10:42.30\00:10:46.64 of adrenaline and some angels. That's right. So let's continue 00:10:47.58\00:10:50.21 on with this discussion. So very excellent point about 00:10:50.41\00:10:53.08 what really is happening. So stress is something that is 00:10:53.28\00:10:57.52 usable. It's good for the body; it's something that we all 00:10:57.72\00:11:00.09 experience. In fact, stress is... It happens when we're 00:11:00.29\00:11:04.83 lifting weights, right? There's tension, stress upon 00:11:05.03\00:11:07.23 the muscles to develop muscle strength. 00:11:07.43\00:11:09.53 It's valuable in one sense that if you're going to develop 00:11:09.73\00:11:11.80 mental power you've got to tax you mind. 00:11:12.00\00:11:15.44 Um-hmm. In a spiritual sense, trials and tests bring about 00:11:15.64\00:11:19.81 developing character. Ah-ha! And so when a woman is about 00:11:20.01\00:11:23.31 ready to bring forth a child there's stress there 00:11:23.51\00:11:25.65 in the labor. She can testify to that. 00:11:25.85\00:11:30.22 No... I can't testify. I've seen it... I've seen it. 00:11:30.42\00:11:33.72 In the hospital you've seen it? 00:11:34.12\00:11:35.72 OK... but stress is valuable and as mentioned it can be 00:11:35.92\00:11:39.53 also adverse. And one of the things that I understand with 00:11:39.73\00:11:42.36 stress: stress becomes dangerous 00:11:42.56\00:11:45.87 when it exceeds my ability to respond 00:11:46.07\00:11:52.07 constructively. Yeah. So... the intensity of it 00:11:52.27\00:11:57.08 and the duration of it. And so if it exceeds my capacity 00:11:57.28\00:12:01.38 to respond... As doc mentioned, the stressors. 00:12:01.78\00:12:05.15 Say you've been working for 24 years. You've still got 00:12:05.55\00:12:08.52 a mortgage on your house. All of a sudden you're laid off. 00:12:08.72\00:12:11.33 Ah, yes. All right... that's stress. 00:12:11.63\00:12:14.46 You've been off for about a year... two years. 00:12:14.66\00:12:16.43 You know, that's the duration... intensity. 00:12:16.63\00:12:18.30 So how we respond to that will determine the impact 00:12:18.50\00:12:21.90 stress has on my life. Do you follow what I'm saying? 00:12:22.10\00:12:23.91 I follow what you're saying. Now there is a landmark 00:12:24.11\00:12:27.64 experiment and I've heard - you've shared this before - 00:12:27.94\00:12:33.01 of the cat. Because Dr. Clark mentioned that our digestive 00:12:33.21\00:12:38.19 system goes into like... almost like a hibernation - 00:12:38.39\00:12:42.59 that's right - it stops while there is stress. 00:12:42.79\00:12:44.79 That's right. Now what is this thing with the cat? 00:12:44.99\00:12:47.63 The cat... and I coin that... it's pinching the cat's tail. 00:12:47.83\00:12:51.83 Um-hmm. And there's a doctor from Harvard University 00:12:52.03\00:12:55.34 did research on how stress impacts the digestive system. 00:12:55.54\00:12:59.74 This was in the late 1950's etc. 00:12:59.94\00:13:02.51 So what they did with this cat: they surgically inserted a 00:13:02.71\00:13:06.61 x- ray machine into the cat 00:13:06.82\00:13:08.75 to monitor the flow of digestion. 00:13:08.95\00:13:11.09 So while the cat was eating calmly and purring 00:13:11.29\00:13:14.69 digestion flowed smoothly. 00:13:14.89\00:13:16.96 Then the doctor went over and pinched the cat's tail 00:13:17.36\00:13:22.03 and the cat became angry in feline fashion. 00:13:22.33\00:13:25.97 So that immediately stopped digestion. Um-hmm. 00:13:26.37\00:13:31.44 And so as the cat was calmed down then digestion flowed back. 00:13:31.64\00:13:36.24 So what he was trying to determine: how stress, 00:13:36.44\00:13:39.81 worry, anger, can interfere with the flow of even digestion. 00:13:40.02\00:13:44.62 Even the best diet. I mean, you can be on the best 00:13:44.82\00:13:49.09 organic, plant-based diet which I'm not knocking that - 00:13:49.29\00:13:51.86 praise God for it - and your body is on unmanageable stress 00:13:52.06\00:13:55.96 that food will ferment in your system... 00:13:56.16\00:13:58.97 therefore producing toxins or poisons. Auto-intoxication. 00:13:59.17\00:14:02.44 Auto-intoxication... stress! And so this is why we have to 00:14:02.64\00:14:06.27 be very mindful how to address the impact of stress 00:14:06.47\00:14:09.44 upon our lives. So I like what you just said. 00:14:09.64\00:14:12.08 You said even though the food that you may be eating 00:14:12.28\00:14:15.65 is good food - um-hmm - how- ever, when this particular food 00:14:15.95\00:14:21.89 is being taken in while there is stress - that's right - 00:14:22.09\00:14:24.63 I always like to say eating is sacred. Yes! 00:14:24.83\00:14:28.53 In other words, you don't eat while you're actually writing 00:14:28.73\00:14:31.63 bills. That's a good point. Right? That's right. 00:14:31.83\00:14:34.87 Or while you're angry. Or while you're angry. 00:14:35.07\00:14:37.94 Or you don't sit down and eat and have a conversation about 00:14:38.14\00:14:41.74 something that is going to cause stress because you will not 00:14:41.94\00:14:44.91 benefit from that wonderful meal that you're having. 00:14:45.11\00:14:47.58 Is that right? I call it "pinching my tail. " Rico! 00:14:47.78\00:14:49.12 Mr. Sickness again. Hold on a second. Let's... 00:14:50.25\00:14:53.29 We've got a perspective here. What do you have to share here 00:14:53.49\00:14:56.86 Sickness? Well, I don't know if I'm allowed to speak since 00:14:57.06\00:14:58.99 I'm not wearing suspenders like the rest of you all. 00:14:59.19\00:15:01.86 Anyway... So look, here's the thing: people have comfort food. 00:15:02.16\00:15:05.03 That's how we deal with our stress. 00:15:05.33\00:15:07.87 So now you're trying to stress us out that we can't have 00:15:08.27\00:15:10.14 comfort foods? What are you saying? 00:15:10.34\00:15:12.67 Now I know what you're thinking out there. You're saying: 00:15:12.87\00:15:14.71 "Yes! Comfort food... we love it. " 00:15:14.91\00:15:17.35 But we need to talk about that, don't we? Um-hmm. 00:15:17.55\00:15:18.98 Because when we're talking about comfort food 00:15:19.18\00:15:21.32 we're talking about things that may even be contributing - 00:15:21.52\00:15:24.75 that's true - to stress. Sugar! Refined white sugar. 00:15:24.95\00:15:28.82 Talk about that Dr. Camille. 00:15:29.02\00:15:30.43 So... comfort foods, what are they? 00:15:30.63\00:15:32.66 Well for a lot of the ladies out there it's some chocolate. 00:15:32.86\00:15:35.50 Chocolate has a lot of sugar. 00:15:36.60\00:15:38.37 And you're right: it does make you feel good... 00:15:38.57\00:15:40.67 for a time. But in terms of the glycemic index, what is that 00:15:40.87\00:15:44.31 doing to your body? It gives you a temporary high 00:15:44.47\00:15:46.78 and then what happens afterwards? You get a low. 00:15:46.98\00:15:49.61 Yeah. And so you're feeling even worse than you were feeling 00:15:49.81\00:15:51.71 before. So while a lot of the comfort foods may give 00:15:51.91\00:15:55.88 a temporary "buzz, " the long-term effect is 00:15:56.08\00:15:59.65 actually even worse than where you started before. 00:15:59.85\00:16:02.76 Wow! So in the video we saw there with Sickness and the 00:16:02.96\00:16:07.73 office worker, we saw that she was having not only some 00:16:07.93\00:16:11.27 sugar which has caffeine in it - it was chocolate - 00:16:11.47\00:16:14.80 Right? You talk about the chocolate and the ladies, yeah? 00:16:15.00\00:16:17.74 but also there was coffee. Um-hmm. Caffeine. 00:16:17.94\00:16:21.81 Caffeine. So she was getting like a double express... 00:16:22.01\00:16:24.78 of "express-o, " right? 00:16:24.98\00:16:27.52 So we see that the foods... What other foods are we talking 00:16:27.72\00:16:31.32 about that can cause stress? 00:16:31.52\00:16:32.85 Stress... As you already mentioned, sugar is one. 00:16:33.12\00:16:35.99 Sugar is one. Because #1, too, sugar not only robs 00:16:36.19\00:16:39.33 the body of B vitamins which are also necessary to support the 00:16:39.53\00:16:42.66 central nervous system. Calcium. We find sugar turns to alcohol 00:16:42.86\00:16:46.87 in the body so that means it depreciates oxygen to the brain. 00:16:47.07\00:16:50.24 And we find that outside of sugar... You mentioned caffeine. 00:16:50.64\00:16:53.98 The theobromine that's within the chocolate. 00:16:54.18\00:16:56.98 You find even fried foods can suppress the body's 00:16:57.18\00:17:01.22 receptors or stress receptors. 00:17:01.42\00:17:04.65 You find that without food dehydration does the same thing. 00:17:05.05\00:17:09.36 We can go on and on. Those are some of the main 00:17:09.76\00:17:12.59 foods. Sugar... soft drinks! 00:17:12.79\00:17:15.93 You know, these beverages with carbonated drinks 00:17:16.13\00:17:19.70 will also produce stress. 00:17:19.90\00:17:21.94 So all of this attacks the adrenal glands, the kidneys, 00:17:22.14\00:17:24.31 the liver. These things definitely impact the body 00:17:24.51\00:17:27.88 to the degree where the body's got to cope with it... 00:17:28.08\00:17:30.08 body's got to adjust to it. And I'm going to jump in 00:17:30.28\00:17:31.68 real quick. What we're talking about here is when 00:17:32.08\00:17:34.68 you're eating processed sugar you're walking around basically 00:17:34.88\00:17:38.19 in a pro-inflammatory state constantly. 00:17:38.39\00:17:41.12 And if you don't believe that, all you have to do is visit 00:17:41.32\00:17:45.06 say an emergency room after Halloween. 00:17:45.26\00:17:49.56 When people have had, you know, copious amounts of chocolate 00:17:49.86\00:17:53.20 and white refined sugar their immune system is suppressed 00:17:53.40\00:17:58.01 and therefore they end up being sick. 00:17:58.21\00:18:01.28 There's a stress on the body and they didn't even know it! 00:18:01.48\00:18:04.25 That's true? That's right. Let's talk about some other things. 00:18:04.45\00:18:06.11 How about water? You've got water right here. 00:18:06.31\00:18:07.82 You drink too much water and you get stressed out? 00:18:08.22\00:18:10.22 Or you don't drink enough... which is it? 00:18:10.42\00:18:11.85 When you don't drink enough. When you drink enough water. 00:18:12.05\00:18:14.12 Right. Talk about that for a second. You get dehydrated. 00:18:14.32\00:18:16.02 The body is made mostly of water, and so when it's 00:18:16.22\00:18:18.96 depleted and you're not replacing it 00:18:19.16\00:18:20.80 then your body is kind of out of balance - um-hmm - 00:18:21.00\00:18:24.13 and so you do see the effects. 00:18:24.33\00:18:25.93 I do want to go back a little bit, though, to the sugar thing 00:18:26.13\00:18:28.04 if that's OK just for a moment. We talk about... so sugar's not 00:18:28.24\00:18:31.07 bad. There are different types of sugars. There are natural 00:18:31.27\00:18:34.11 sugars, OK? There are natural sugars in the body that are 00:18:34.31\00:18:37.15 necessary for us to function. If we need to fight or flight 00:18:37.35\00:18:40.98 or do what we have to do. Glucose! We need glucose. 00:18:41.18\00:18:43.05 That's right. We need glucose. That's what the body, the cells 00:18:43.25\00:18:45.55 use on an individual level to help you carry out whatever 00:18:45.75\00:18:48.72 task. What we're talking about are the refined sugars. Um-hmm. 00:18:48.92\00:18:51.79 The simple sugars. The ones that are not going to be sustained. 00:18:51.99\00:18:54.16 Right... the added sugars that are not going to sustained 00:18:54.36\00:18:56.67 at a healthy level in your body 00:18:56.87\00:18:58.77 but rather is going to give you that spike and then 00:18:58.97\00:19:01.20 that downfall that's going to cause a lot of the stressful 00:19:01.60\00:19:04.34 reactions that we're talking about. 00:19:04.54\00:19:06.11 So I think it's important to clarify, you know. 00:19:06.31\00:19:08.74 Not all of it's bad, but we're talking about the processed... 00:19:08.94\00:19:12.11 the simple and the refined sugar. Thank you for that. 00:19:12.31\00:19:13.88 Thank you for that because we would have had people 00:19:14.08\00:19:15.92 leave here saying: "Wow! They're saying you can never have 00:19:16.12\00:19:17.95 anything sweet! " But you can actually have 00:19:18.15\00:19:20.22 things that are sweet obviously. We've talked about 00:19:20.42\00:19:22.66 that on another program. We're talking about the white 00:19:22.86\00:19:25.29 refined processed sugar that is depleted of minerals. 00:19:25.49\00:19:28.16 It's essentially poison... it really is. 00:19:28.36\00:19:31.13 But you can use honey; you can use stevia; 00:19:31.43\00:19:33.47 you can use maple syrup. You can use different types of 00:19:33.67\00:19:37.57 sugar. Cane sugar that is not processed. 00:19:37.77\00:19:40.21 That is a good sugar. So thank you for clarifying that. 00:19:40.41\00:19:42.34 What about exercise? Let's go back also to the water 00:19:42.64\00:19:45.25 situation - OK - because as doc said a body's over 80% water. 00:19:45.45\00:19:49.28 And we find that when our bodies become dehydrated 00:19:49.68\00:19:52.59 God designed the body to compensate. 00:19:52.79\00:19:54.86 And so the body will have to take water from certain areas 00:19:55.16\00:19:57.73 of the body. And there's several areas, 00:19:57.93\00:19:59.56 and one of the areas is the brain. 00:19:59.76\00:20:01.10 The brain is 80% water. 00:20:01.26\00:20:02.73 And so we can end up with what they call cerebral dehydration 00:20:02.93\00:20:05.53 and that interferes with the electrical current in our brain. 00:20:05.83\00:20:09.37 And then also it can produce depression. 00:20:09.57\00:20:13.17 Lack of water can also facilitate depression... 00:20:13.38\00:20:16.08 memory loss. So water is an essential for our body. Right. 00:20:16.28\00:20:20.18 Wow! Wow! Did you hear that? 00:20:20.38\00:20:21.95 We're talking about water. Not having enough water 00:20:22.15\00:20:25.52 you actually can become not only stressed out 00:20:25.72\00:20:28.82 but depressed. That's right. And one thing that I say 00:20:29.02\00:20:31.63 Rico: if anybody irritates you, provokes you, 00:20:31.83\00:20:35.83 take a water break. 00:20:36.23\00:20:37.97 Let's talk about exercise real quick. Now exercise... 00:20:41.14\00:20:43.61 We realize that we have to manage our stress 00:20:43.81\00:20:47.04 because stress is natural, right? But how does exercise 00:20:47.24\00:20:50.58 play into this? A lot of people live sedentary lifestyles. 00:20:50.78\00:20:52.55 They're just kind of in front of the television. 00:20:52.75\00:20:54.45 They're having their chocolate; they're having their caffeine. 00:20:54.65\00:20:56.65 They're doing whatever they want to do 00:20:56.85\00:20:58.22 and their body is stressed. They don't know it. 00:20:58.42\00:21:01.22 And then they're adding to it by not exercising. 00:21:01.42\00:21:04.13 How does exercise play in? And then I want to talk about sleep 00:21:04.33\00:21:06.19 so let's... Oh I can handle this one. 00:21:06.39\00:21:08.03 Yeah... I'll answer your question about exercise. 00:21:08.43\00:21:11.83 You want to talk about stress? 00:21:12.13\00:21:14.04 You have to plan to go to the gym. 00:21:14.24\00:21:16.20 You have to get dressed up to exercise. 00:21:16.40\00:21:18.71 You have to actually go there. 00:21:18.91\00:21:20.74 Oh man... you talk about stress. 00:21:20.94\00:21:23.11 Look, people walking these days? 00:21:23.31\00:21:24.65 This is the 21st century; that's why we have cars. 00:21:24.85\00:21:27.78 Do we agree with this? 00:21:29.15\00:21:30.62 You know, he makes a really good point. 00:21:30.92\00:21:33.12 So... You're telling me blue is telling true? 00:21:33.32\00:21:37.53 That was a good point he made. 00:21:37.69\00:21:39.03 It may seem like it's very stressful to get dressed up 00:21:40.03\00:21:43.20 to go to the gym to exercise, 00:21:43.40\00:21:45.30 but what actually happens when you are in the process 00:21:45.50\00:21:47.90 of exercising is completely different. 00:21:48.10\00:21:49.90 So the body releases natural endorphins that make you feel 00:21:50.11\00:21:54.54 better and your stress is actually relieved as a result. 00:21:54.74\00:21:57.88 So initially it may seem like: "Yeah, this is a very stressful 00:21:58.08\00:22:01.88 process that I have to go through, " but I think 00:22:02.08\00:22:03.79 for a lot of us - that's right - especially for me 00:22:03.99\00:22:05.85 you know as long as I can get myself to the gym 00:22:06.05\00:22:07.92 once I'm there I actually feel a lot better. 00:22:08.12\00:22:10.19 And you know what? You don't necessarily have to go to the 00:22:10.59\00:22:12.46 gym. You don't have to go to the gym! You can just take 00:22:12.66\00:22:14.06 a walk outdoors! Get out of your house and go for a walk. 00:22:14.26\00:22:17.80 That's exercise! Instead of fighting for that parking spot 00:22:18.00\00:22:21.10 close to the Wal-Mart entrance 00:22:21.30\00:22:23.20 park at the end of the parking lot and walk there. 00:22:23.41\00:22:26.94 There you go! Instead of taking the elevator 00:22:27.14\00:22:28.84 take the stairs. Take the stairs! Take the stairs! 00:22:29.04\00:22:31.18 How about sleep? Does lack of sleep, too much sleep... 00:22:31.38\00:22:34.32 can that stress us out? 00:22:34.52\00:22:35.85 A lot of people don't know that when you actually are 00:22:35.88\00:22:38.35 on certain social media sites... 00:22:38.55\00:22:41.99 Two o'clock in the morning, your body doesn't know it 00:22:42.19\00:22:45.73 because you should be in bed sleeping. 00:22:45.93\00:22:48.16 It thinks you're being chased by a bear! 00:22:48.36\00:22:50.40 Releasing cortisol. And can that put weight on you? 00:22:50.60\00:22:53.70 Oh most definitely... yes. 00:22:53.90\00:22:56.20 The Bible tells us, you know, it is not wise to rise up early 00:22:56.40\00:23:01.08 and stay up... Rise up early and go to bed late. 00:23:01.28\00:23:04.08 That's right. You give my beloved sleep. 00:23:04.28\00:23:07.12 We find that sleep is a recharging process. 00:23:07.32\00:23:10.59 Especially has impact upon the nervous system. Yes. 00:23:10.79\00:23:13.15 And also there is a time because during the daylight time 00:23:13.36\00:23:16.73 there's a neurotransmitter called serotonin 00:23:16.93\00:23:21.46 that is synthesized into what we call melatonin. 00:23:21.86\00:23:24.93 As the sun sets, you know, it's time for us to rest. 00:23:25.13\00:23:28.50 So between certain hours our body is producing these hormones 00:23:28.70\00:23:31.47 recharging our batteries. Because, case in point, 00:23:31.67\00:23:36.08 you go home tonight, leave your car lights on 00:23:36.28\00:23:40.28 all night, you understand. The fact is you won't be able to 00:23:40.48\00:23:42.95 start the car because the battery is drained. 00:23:43.15\00:23:45.39 And so sleep deprivation definitely impacts our stress 00:23:45.59\00:23:49.26 level. Case in point: during the Gulf War... 00:23:49.46\00:23:51.89 during the Gulf War there is a situation called 00:23:52.29\00:23:55.73 blue on blue or friendly fire. 00:23:55.93\00:23:59.37 The United States Navy personnel 00:23:59.57\00:24:01.94 were mistaking their own airplanes for the enemy. 00:24:02.14\00:24:06.98 They were shooting at their own airplanes. 00:24:07.18\00:24:09.08 And this continued to happen till they began to do a little 00:24:09.48\00:24:12.28 research and assessing the situation. 00:24:12.48\00:24:14.32 They found out that the personnel were sleep deprived. 00:24:14.52\00:24:18.29 Aah! Sleep deprived. It affected their judgment. 00:24:18.49\00:24:21.49 Um-hmm. And so sleep definitely has a great impact upon how 00:24:21.69\00:24:24.96 we deal with stress. So in our own families we might 00:24:25.16\00:24:27.46 be doing a little friendly fire. 00:24:27.66\00:24:29.00 Friendly fire. We might be arguing, fighting, shooting 00:24:29.16\00:24:30.80 at one another... and because we are sleep deprived. 00:24:31.00\00:24:33.57 Well we're almost out of time here, but, you know, 00:24:33.97\00:24:37.04 I think it all comes down to do we trust God. 00:24:37.44\00:24:40.14 Do we trust God who told us that we need to drink water? 00:24:40.54\00:24:43.21 We need to eat the right foods. 00:24:43.61\00:24:46.08 We need to get exercise. We need to go to bed and 00:24:46.28\00:24:48.12 have our bodies function accord- ing to the circadian rhythm. 00:24:48.32\00:24:50.89 Now there was a professor 00:24:51.19\00:24:54.06 who came into her class with a glass of water like this. 00:24:54.26\00:24:57.53 And she said, you know: "How much water is in here? " 00:24:57.83\00:25:01.06 And the took guesses. Eight ounces; six ounces; 00:25:01.26\00:25:03.16 and various things like that. And as she held it out 00:25:03.37\00:25:06.60 she said: "If I hold it for a minute, what will happen? " 00:25:06.80\00:25:09.14 She said: "Well, you know, my arm will get a little tired. 00:25:09.34\00:25:11.21 But if I hold it for an hour what will happen? " 00:25:11.41\00:25:13.41 "Well, your arm will start to get achy. You'll have 00:25:13.71\00:25:16.24 aching in the arm. " "But if I hold it all day long, 00:25:16.44\00:25:19.28 what will happen? Well, the arm will become paralyzed. " 00:25:19.48\00:25:23.35 And the point she was making: stress is like that. 00:25:23.55\00:25:26.65 We have to... We'll have it... We'll have stress, but we 00:25:26.86\00:25:29.42 have to put it down. We have to put it down. 00:25:29.62\00:25:32.63 We have to manage it and more importantly 00:25:32.83\00:25:35.56 we have to trust in God. 00:25:35.86\00:25:39.13 God has designed us that if we don't trust Him 00:25:39.33\00:25:42.70 we'll stress out. 00:25:42.90\00:25:44.24 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart 00:25:47.51\00:25:49.44 and lean not unto thine own understanding. 00:25:49.64\00:25:52.08 In all thy ways acknowledge Him 00:25:52.48\00:25:54.22 and He shall direct thy paths. " 00:25:54.42\00:25:56.95 That's Proverbs chapter 3 verses 5 and 6. 00:25:57.15\00:26:00.56 Well this has been another very informative program, hasn't it? 00:26:00.76\00:26:03.93 I mean, lots of really good information 00:26:04.13\00:26:05.79 that I think is going to help people. 00:26:06.09\00:26:07.90 No? Well what I think is really fascinating 00:26:08.10\00:26:11.10 is that when we trust in our own selves, 00:26:11.30\00:26:14.17 our own ways, and not God's 00:26:14.37\00:26:16.64 the human body is designed to stress out. 00:26:16.84\00:26:19.97 We ultimately manage stress by trusting in God. 00:26:20.18\00:26:24.35 So they say. Oh, you don't believe it? 00:26:24.75\00:26:27.12 Of course I do but haven't you learned anything 00:26:27.32\00:26:30.32 from me today? I really haven't. 00:26:30.52\00:26:32.22 OK. I get people to trust me 00:26:32.42\00:26:35.06 and not what God has said and then they get sick. 00:26:35.26\00:26:37.56 I mean I really don't know what I'm talking about... 00:26:37.86\00:26:39.39 I just say stuff. But hey, I call it planting reasonable 00:26:39.59\00:26:44.03 doubt. That's my thing. 00:26:44.23\00:26:46.63 And I call it sick. 00:26:47.04\00:26:49.24 No, no, no, no... Sickness. 00:26:49.44\00:26:51.87 Well you know what? I can't deny that. 00:26:52.27\00:26:55.08 You keep trying to cause doubt 00:26:55.48\00:26:57.98 and I'll just keep sharing the truth that leads not only 00:26:58.18\00:27:01.28 to health but also to eternal life. 00:27:01.48\00:27:03.59 Look friends, we have an invitation from a loving Savior 00:27:03.79\00:27:07.69 who has said to us: "Come, all who labor 00:27:07.89\00:27:11.66 and are heavy laden with burdens. " 00:27:11.86\00:27:14.10 He promises to give us rest. 00:27:14.30\00:27:16.20 In other words, trust Him more and stress less. 00:27:16.40\00:27:20.40 We can cast all of our cares on Him 00:27:20.80\00:27:24.57 because He cares for us. 00:27:24.97\00:27:28.81 I cannot say the same for the one who would want 00:27:29.21\00:27:33.01 to cause you stress. 00:27:33.31\00:27:35.78 Third John 2 says: "Beloved, 00:27:36.08\00:27:38.99 I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper 00:27:39.19\00:27:41.09 and be in health. " I'm Rico Hill 00:27:41.29\00:27:43.32 and I'm Sickness. Maranatha. 00:27:43.53\00:27:46.43
