Isaiah 58:11 says, 00:00:01.06\00:00:04.23 "And the Lord shall guide thee continually, 00:00:04.26\00:00:07.27 and satisfy thy soul in drought, 00:00:07.30\00:00:09.76 and make fat thy bones 00:00:09.79\00:00:11.87 and thou shalt be like a watered garden, 00:00:11.90\00:00:14.98 and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not." 00:00:15.01\00:00:19.84 Amen. 00:00:19.87\00:00:20.90 Praise the Lord. What a wonderful promise. 00:00:20.93\00:00:22.78 Hello, I'm Rico Hill, the host of "From Sickness to Health." 00:00:22.81\00:00:26.02 And I'm Sickness. 00:00:26.05\00:00:27.77 Hey, did you know that 00:00:27.80\00:00:29.33 70 percent of the human body is water? 00:00:29.36\00:00:33.03 Therefore, like your blood and your bones are water. 00:00:33.06\00:00:37.46 In fact the brain is like 85 percent water. 00:00:37.49\00:00:40.05 Yeah, I knew that. 00:00:40.08\00:00:41.11 Did you also know that if you just drink 00:00:41.14\00:00:44.14 at least eight glasses of water everyday, 00:00:44.17\00:00:48.22 you'll cleanse the body of toxins 00:00:48.25\00:00:50.81 and then you can reduce your chances of being sick? 00:00:50.84\00:00:55.14 Oh, I knew that and that's why I don't drink this stuff. 00:00:55.17\00:00:58.36 I don't want to reduce the chance of me being me. 00:00:58.39\00:01:02.89 That wasn't that funny. I'll tell you what's not funny. 00:01:02.92\00:01:05.75 People know water's good for them 00:01:05.78\00:01:07.32 and they don't drink it. 00:01:07.35\00:01:08.43 They would rather have soda and tea 00:01:08.46\00:01:10.29 and sugary drink and this or that 00:01:10.32\00:01:12.36 and, you know what, at the end of the day, 00:01:12.39\00:01:14.09 they just want a little sugar in their water 00:01:14.12\00:01:16.05 with a little dye like some fool-aid. 00:01:16.08\00:01:19.02 Wait a minute, fool-aid. What is fool-aid? 00:01:19.05\00:01:21.44 Well, fool-aid is when people think 00:01:21.47\00:01:22.91 something is good for them, 00:01:22.94\00:01:24.55 but it's got so much sugar and dyes 00:01:24.58\00:01:27.12 that it's really not. 00:01:27.15\00:01:28.72 Fool-aid. Okay, wait a minute. 00:01:28.75\00:01:30.27 Let me see, if I can wrap my brain around this. 00:01:30.30\00:01:32.17 Yeah, don't hurt yourself. 00:01:32.20\00:01:33.43 So you're saying that a colored substance 00:01:33.46\00:01:36.30 that doesn't really have any substance 00:01:36.33\00:01:39.05 is what you're calling fool-aid. 00:01:39.08\00:01:41.37 Exactly. 00:01:41.40\00:01:42.71 So does this make you a fool-aid? 00:01:42.74\00:01:46.53 Yes. 00:01:46.56\00:01:48.25 Okay, I thought I understood that. 00:01:48.28\00:01:50.33 So today, we're gonna talk about not being fools 00:01:50.36\00:01:54.31 but actually understanding truth 00:01:54.34\00:01:56.31 about the real thing and that's water. 00:01:56.34\00:02:00.34 Wait a second, I'm no fool. 00:02:00.37\00:02:02.04 I can say water in multiple languages. 00:02:02.07\00:02:04.46 In Spanish "Agua," in German, "Wasser," 00:02:04.49\00:02:07.18 in Chinese, "Shui" and in Jamaican, 00:02:07.21\00:02:10.51 "Wata". 00:02:10.54\00:02:12.80 Clearly it's the food-aid. 00:02:12.83\00:02:16.85 Roll it. 00:02:16.88\00:02:17.91 Well, welcome and thank you for joining us here on, 00:02:53.84\00:02:56.66 "From Sickness to Health," right here in the studio. 00:02:56.69\00:02:59.00 And I'm joined today by Dr. Milton Mills 00:02:59.03\00:03:02.56 and we're gonna talk about a subject 00:03:02.59\00:03:04.43 that it seems so simple 00:03:04.46\00:03:05.80 but a lot of people are either neglect it or avoid it 00:03:05.83\00:03:08.94 or whatever the case may be. 00:03:08.97\00:03:10.73 But you're gonna find that it is so simple 00:03:10.76\00:03:12.28 but yet it's so profound 00:03:12.31\00:03:13.93 in terms of its impact on our health. 00:03:13.96\00:03:17.73 So I am excited about our guest, 00:03:17.76\00:03:20.51 Dr. Milton Mills, a friend to this program. 00:03:20.54\00:03:23.30 He is at critical care physician 00:03:23.33\00:03:25.03 at the United Medical Center in Washington DC, 00:03:25.06\00:03:28.48 but he's also the associate director 00:03:28.51\00:03:31.21 for preventative medicine 00:03:31.24\00:03:33.09 for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. 00:03:33.12\00:03:37.37 That means, he is educating people 00:03:37.40\00:03:39.33 on how to be healthy and live. 00:03:39.36\00:03:41.98 So thank you for being on the program with us. 00:03:42.01\00:03:44.04 Very happy to be here-- 00:03:44.07\00:03:45.10 Hey, we're talking about water today, aren't we? 00:03:45.13\00:03:46.71 Here's the water. This is great. 00:05:08.56\00:05:10.82 You know, the reason is, 00:05:10.85\00:05:11.93 because of some super scientific ingredients 00:05:11.96\00:05:14.73 that were used like, tartrazine 102, 00:05:14.76\00:05:17.02 Monosodium glutamate 621, hydrochloride, 00:05:17.05\00:05:21.91 and phenylamine and some blue dye. 00:05:21.94\00:05:25.02 Fantastic ingredients, all of the good stuff. 00:05:25.05\00:05:27.74 You know, I think this is gonna replace water. 00:05:27.77\00:05:30.16 People won't even remember water. 00:05:30.19\00:05:32.09 It's gonna be great. 00:05:32.12\00:05:33.21 Hey, buddy, you want some more water? 00:05:33.24\00:05:35.61 Blue Water? Back to you, Rico. 00:05:42.20\00:05:46.64 Blue Water. 00:05:46.67\00:05:48.78 And I would, you know, I don't even know 00:05:48.81\00:05:50.77 what he is pronouncing in half-- 00:05:50.80\00:05:53.33 you know, I don't know half of the things 00:05:53.36\00:05:54.96 he was pronouncing, in this blue water. 00:05:54.99\00:05:57.19 So--but this makes a point, doesn't it? 00:05:57.22\00:05:59.89 A lot of people are drinking, lots of things out there, 00:05:59.92\00:06:03.33 soda pop and all types of energy drinks 00:06:03.36\00:06:06.41 that have all these words that are long-- 00:06:06.44\00:06:08.20 I would say energy. Yeah. "Energy." 00:06:08.23\00:06:11.29 Okay, so-- but people are choosing 00:06:11.32\00:06:13.53 that over just simple water. 00:06:13.56\00:06:16.92 What's going on here? 00:06:16.95\00:06:18.42 Well, basically people have been 00:06:18.45\00:06:20.69 sold the proverbial billed goods. 00:06:20.72\00:06:24.07 They've been led to believe that all of this stuff 00:06:24.10\00:06:27.98 that is being marketed to them is good for them 00:06:28.01\00:06:33.09 or necessary or helpful and in fact it isn't. 00:06:33.12\00:06:37.29 There is nothing more helpful, 00:06:37.32\00:06:40.37 more important than good, clear, clean water. 00:06:40.40\00:06:46.05 Your body, as you know is 70 percent water 00:06:46.08\00:06:50.82 and you need to replenish that every single day 00:06:50.85\00:06:54.59 to keep yourself fully hydrated, 00:06:54.62\00:06:56.69 to keep your body flushed out internally 00:06:56.72\00:07:00.46 so that your kidneys are able to rid, 00:07:00.49\00:07:02.77 your body of the toxins 00:07:02.80\00:07:06.02 that are produced every single-- 00:07:06.05\00:07:07.68 Every single day? 00:07:07.71\00:07:09.01 Actually, every single second that we're living because-- 00:07:09.04\00:07:12.18 Oh, you just tripped me up there. 00:07:12.21\00:07:14.84 I was, I was ready to say conceit to second. 00:07:14.87\00:07:18.58 I mean every day, 00:07:18.61\00:07:19.92 but you're saying every single second? 00:07:19.95\00:07:21.98 Yes, every single second that a cell is living, 00:07:22.01\00:07:26.41 it is metabolizing and as it's metabolizing, 00:07:26.44\00:07:29.34 it is producing waste products-- 00:07:29.37\00:07:30.44 Waste products. Exactly. 00:07:30.47\00:07:32.12 And those waste products have to be gotten rid of. 00:07:32.15\00:07:36.19 And they are carried away by the blood stream 00:07:36.22\00:07:39.19 which then goes to the kidneys, which filter out the toxins 00:07:39.22\00:07:43.71 and those ultimately come out in our urine or conversely, 00:07:43.74\00:07:48.70 they are filtered through the liver 00:07:48.73\00:07:50.89 and they are taken out 00:07:50.92\00:07:52.64 and excreted through the GI tract. 00:07:52.67\00:07:57.77 So toxins are continually being produced 00:07:57.80\00:08:01.37 and removed from our system. 00:08:01.40\00:08:03.04 But you know what, you know, what people are saying, 00:08:03.07\00:08:04.84 "Well, you know, that's fine. 00:08:04.87\00:08:06.43 I'll get my water from soda pop." 00:08:06.46\00:08:09.54 Well, actually the problem is-- There's water in it. 00:08:09.57\00:08:12.13 Yeah, there is water but there is also 00:08:12.16\00:08:13.86 a lot of dissolved solutes in there. 00:08:13.89\00:08:16.56 And when you take in water 00:08:16.59\00:08:20.75 that also has other materials in it, 00:08:20.78\00:08:24.41 in the process of metabolizing the stuff 00:08:24.44\00:08:27.26 that's in the soda pop, you end up using the water 00:08:27.29\00:08:30.75 that's in the soda pop to get rid of the stuff 00:08:30.78\00:08:32.73 that's in the soda pop. 00:08:32.76\00:08:34.26 Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute. 00:08:34.29\00:08:36.35 Let me make sure that I just understood that. 00:08:36.38\00:08:38.02 So you're saying, you know, if you drink water, 00:08:38.05\00:08:40.36 let's look at that first, so if you drink water 00:08:40.39\00:08:42.01 it's just simple, it's, it's flushing out, 00:08:42.04\00:08:44.21 it's removing, 00:08:44.24\00:08:45.54 it is a benefit to the process, the natural process is, right? 00:08:45.57\00:08:49.94 Sure. 00:08:49.97\00:08:51.00 Drink a soda that has water in it 00:08:51.03\00:08:53.33 but because of so many other additives 00:08:53.36\00:08:56.91 the water is being-- the body is using the water 00:08:56.94\00:08:59.45 that's in there to actually get 00:08:59.48\00:09:01.52 rid of the junk that's in there. 00:09:01.55\00:09:03.04 Absolutely, let me ask you-- 00:09:03.07\00:09:04.10 So you don't have any water at all. 00:09:04.13\00:09:05.44 Let me ask you this, can you take a bath in muddy water? 00:09:05.47\00:09:08.98 I would, I would never do it. 00:09:09.01\00:09:11.57 Why? Because-- Because, I wouldn't be clean. 00:09:11.60\00:09:14.01 Exactly, likewise, you can't use 00:09:14.04\00:09:19.88 soda pop to get rid of compounds 00:09:19.91\00:09:23.36 that are in your system. 00:09:23.39\00:09:24.67 You need-- Just like you need clear water 00:09:24.70\00:09:27.65 to get rid of dirt on your skin, 00:09:27.68\00:09:29.78 you need clear water internally to get rid of the toxins 00:09:29.81\00:09:34.29 and waste products in your body. 00:09:34.32\00:09:36.47 Okay now doc, now here's a point 00:09:36.50\00:09:38.24 because people don't realize that. 00:09:38.27\00:09:40.18 So there is a need for water externally, 00:09:40.21\00:09:44.10 which no one is gonna argue that. 00:09:44.13\00:09:45.80 Absolutely. 00:09:45.83\00:09:46.86 So in the same way, we are actually sort of, 00:09:46.89\00:09:50.30 washing our vital organs. 00:09:50.33\00:09:53.09 Kidney, liver-- That's exactly right. 00:09:53.12\00:09:54.81 Let's look at some facts about water, okay. 00:09:54.84\00:09:56.97 Since we're talking about, 00:09:57.00\00:09:58.03 let's get people a clear prospective 00:09:58.06\00:10:00.60 and look at what is water really doing in the body. 00:10:00.63\00:10:04.39 You mentioned already, first of all, 00:10:04.42\00:10:06.31 you said that the body is 70-- 00:10:06.34\00:10:08.06 some people say 70-75 percent water right? 00:10:08.09\00:10:10.36 So it's mostly water, but then you've got the brain, 00:10:10.39\00:10:14.45 some 75-80, sometimes even 85 percent water, right? 00:10:14.48\00:10:18.67 You've got water in the bones, you've got water in the blood, 00:10:18.70\00:10:21.42 you've got water in-- 00:10:21.45\00:10:22.72 every single aspect of our body needs water. 00:10:22.75\00:10:26.48 What does it do? 00:10:26.51\00:10:27.54 It's a great laxative, it's a natural laxative. 00:10:27.57\00:10:30.09 We need water to actually use-- Right. 00:10:30.12\00:10:33.56 To make stool, right? Yes, we do. 00:10:33.59\00:10:35.67 It's-- so we need water to-- 00:10:35.70\00:10:36.79 it actually helps to lower the blood sugar in the body-- 00:10:36.82\00:10:40.70 Yeah, we need it as it's-- 00:10:40.73\00:10:42.92 water is almost like lubrication for the joints. 00:10:42.95\00:10:46.44 Yes, exactly right. 00:10:46.47\00:10:47.50 If you have arthritis and you're not drinking water-- 00:10:47.53\00:10:50.09 Your joints become stiffer. They don't work as well. 00:10:50.12\00:10:52.57 We've, we've so much more to say about this. 00:10:52.60\00:10:54.15 Let's, let's go and let's hear if there's some information 00:10:54.18\00:10:58.02 that we can gather from what the news is saying. 00:10:58.05\00:11:00.01 Where-- you know on this program-- 00:11:00.04\00:11:01.38 you've on been before. 00:11:01.41\00:11:02.44 We like to get our perspective from everybody. 00:11:02.47\00:11:04.60 We want your perspective, we want even your perspective 00:11:04.63\00:11:08.35 and certainly we'll listen to what the news say. 00:11:08.38\00:11:10.24 Sometimes you all listen to what the news will say 00:11:10.27\00:11:13.16 before you even what the doctor who cares about you says. 00:11:13.19\00:11:17.10 So let's take a look at what's the news is saying. 00:11:17.13\00:11:18.23 Sure. 00:11:18.26\00:11:20.55 And so, Coke and Pepsi announced 00:11:20.58\00:11:21.98 that they're gonna change the formulation 00:11:22.01\00:11:24.09 of the caramel coloring that they use in their sodas 00:11:24.12\00:11:26.80 to avoid putting a cancer warning label. 00:11:26.83\00:11:29.06 And here's why. 00:11:29.09\00:11:30.28 A consumer group called 00:11:30.31\00:11:31.60 "Center for Science in the Public Interest" 00:11:31.63\00:11:33.32 claims that they did testing of this caramel coloring 00:11:33.35\00:11:36.97 and they found a chemical in there 00:11:37.00\00:11:38.84 that has been linked to cancer in animals. 00:11:38.87\00:11:41.02 Is above what's allowable in our food supply. 00:11:41.05\00:11:43.34 And they demanded that The Food 00:11:43.37\00:11:44.87 and Drug Administration take action. 00:11:44.90\00:11:46.45 You know, there're a lot of people, 00:11:46.48\00:11:47.85 who drink Coke and Pepsi 00:11:47.88\00:11:48.93 and they're gonna be very concerned 00:11:48.96\00:11:49.99 about their health right now. 00:11:50.02\00:11:51.05 Yeah, you know, there're number of opinions on that. 00:11:51.08\00:11:52.81 Coke says that there has never been a problem 00:11:52.84\00:11:55.43 in terms of cancer from this caramel coloring 00:11:55.46\00:11:57.93 but they want to make the change 00:11:57.96\00:11:59.04 to avoid that warning label. 00:11:59.07\00:12:00.83 The Food and Drug Administration, 00:12:00.86\00:12:02.20 they told writers that you would need to drink 00:12:02.23\00:12:04.07 more than 1,000 cans of soda every single day 00:12:04.10\00:12:07.89 to hit that threshold of, of risk in animals. 00:12:07.92\00:12:11.26 Even before this came out, 00:12:11.29\00:12:13.21 you've never been a fan as most doctors 00:12:13.24\00:12:15.11 are not a fan of drinking this kind of, of beverages. 00:12:15.14\00:12:18.54 Yeah, you know, I don't see 00:12:18.57\00:12:19.86 that there's a real cancer risk here 00:12:19.89\00:12:21.45 but you're right. 00:12:21.48\00:12:22.52 You know, I say this every day that 00:12:22.55\00:12:24.95 if you want to do one thing for your health, 00:12:24.98\00:12:26.94 just one thing that you could do today 00:12:26.97\00:12:28.74 that will have the biggest impact, 00:12:28.77\00:12:30.39 it would be cut out your sodas, 00:12:30.42\00:12:31.79 cut out your sweetening beverages 00:12:31.82\00:12:33.42 because-- I mean, cancer is not the risk, 00:12:33.45\00:12:35.90 you're more likely to die from the diabetes, 00:12:35.93\00:12:38.58 it's linked to obesity 00:12:38.61\00:12:39.88 that's linked to all these sweetening beverages 00:12:39.91\00:12:41.58 than you ever don't have to worry about the caramel. 00:12:41.61\00:12:43.50 And you can see a dramatic change if you cut out sodas. 00:12:43.53\00:12:46.09 It's unbelievable. Yeah. 00:12:46.12\00:12:47.15 You will lose pounds. 00:12:47.18\00:12:48.21 You will lose pounds just from that one simple thing. 00:12:48.24\00:12:51.84 Wow, the research is so clear, 00:12:51.87\00:12:55.55 sugary drinks are simply bad for us. 00:12:55.58\00:12:59.43 That's absolutely true. 00:12:59.46\00:13:00.86 The research clearly shows that it is the massive increase 00:13:00.89\00:13:05.88 in the consumption of sugary drinks 00:13:05.91\00:13:08.39 that has contributed to this epidemic obesity 00:13:08.42\00:13:11.64 that we're seeing in the country. 00:13:11.67\00:13:13.40 Not only does it contribute to obesity 00:13:13.43\00:13:16.65 but it also contributes to dehydration 00:13:16.68\00:13:18.82 because it takes a lot of water to metabolize all of the sugar 00:13:18.85\00:13:22.93 that people are actually consuming. 00:13:22.96\00:13:25.28 And even worse yet high fructose corn syrup. 00:13:25.31\00:13:31.05 High fructose corn syrup is actually-- 00:13:31.08\00:13:33.66 You can't get around it is in all those drinks-- 00:13:33.69\00:13:35.35 It is in all of the drinks and there's a-- there's a-- 00:13:35.38\00:13:43.05 there's a very interesting reason 00:13:43.08\00:13:44.86 why that's, that's, that's so. 00:13:44.89\00:13:47.31 It turns out that there're, there're are different types 00:13:47.34\00:13:52.15 of sugar molecules and fructose is a, 00:13:52.18\00:13:58.76 what's called a monosaccharide meaning a single sugar molecule 00:13:58.79\00:14:03.19 that our taste buds perceive as being many times sweeter 00:14:03.22\00:14:08.45 than what we call table sugar or sucrose 00:14:08.48\00:14:12.38 which is a disaccharide meaning 00:14:12.41\00:14:14.44 it's two sugar molecules linked together. 00:14:14.47\00:14:17.56 So in other words, you have a single sugar molecule 00:14:17.59\00:14:22.00 that is perceived as being many times sweeter 00:14:22.03\00:14:25.36 than a double sugar molecule. 00:14:25.39\00:14:28.00 Well, why is that important? 00:14:28.03\00:14:30.25 It's important because that means 00:14:30.28\00:14:31.63 that God designed fruit which is where the term 00:14:31.66\00:14:34.69 fructose comes from, fruit sugar, 00:14:34.72\00:14:36.73 to have a small amount of sugar in it 00:14:36.76\00:14:38.96 but still be perceived as very sweet 00:14:38.99\00:14:41.33 so that we would eat the fruit, get all of the health benefits 00:14:41.36\00:14:44.86 without getting a huge sugar level. 00:14:44.89\00:14:47.75 But industry said, "Hmm, well, 00:14:47.78\00:14:51.69 instead of putting sucrose into our soft drinks, 00:14:51.72\00:14:56.32 we could put half the amount of sugar 00:14:56.35\00:14:59.30 for an equivalent level of sweetness 00:14:59.33\00:15:01.92 and not only would we be using less sugar 00:15:01.95\00:15:04.90 but then when we want to ship it 00:15:04.93\00:15:06.64 all over the country, 00:15:06.67\00:15:08.08 we will have to pay lower transportation cost 00:15:08.11\00:15:11.27 because they would weight less." 00:15:11.30\00:15:13.24 The problem is that 00:15:13.27\00:15:15.87 when we consume large amount of fructose, 00:15:15.90\00:15:19.70 non physiologic amount of fructose 00:15:19.73\00:15:22.45 it deranges our physiology. 00:15:22.48\00:15:24.78 It raises your blood pressure, 00:15:24.81\00:15:26.56 it causes your body to store excess amounts of fat 00:15:26.59\00:15:30.50 and it contributes to a number of 00:15:30.53\00:15:33.18 other disease processes in the body 00:15:33.21\00:15:36.40 because, our bodies were not meant to handle 00:15:36.43\00:15:38.97 huge amounts of fructose like 00:15:39.00\00:15:41.17 we get when we drink all of these sugary drinks. 00:15:41.20\00:15:44.79 Let me try to put that into some language 00:15:44.82\00:15:47.92 because I mean, you've hit some serious topics here, 00:15:47.95\00:15:50.90 but let's make it real, real practical. 00:15:50.93\00:15:54.12 And you tell me whether this is true, 00:15:54.15\00:15:55.39 but I've looked at some research shows 00:15:55.42\00:15:57.57 that if-- say for instance we take a-- 00:15:57.60\00:16:01.32 your average 12 ounce of soft drink, okay soda pop. 00:16:01.35\00:16:06.52 You drink that and you're getting 00:16:06.55\00:16:09.45 high fructose corn syrup. 00:16:09.48\00:16:11.13 Now that would be the equivalent 00:16:11.16\00:16:13.02 because the sugar there has been, 00:16:13.05\00:16:15.68 has been refined or processed, right? 00:16:15.71\00:16:18.80 And-- but if you were to look at the amount of sugar 00:16:18.83\00:16:21.84 that the body has taken in, 00:16:21.87\00:16:23.47 you would have to in it's natural state be like 00:16:23.50\00:16:26.39 the equivalent of a 30 foot cane, 00:16:26.42\00:16:29.98 you know, like the sugarcane, 00:16:30.01\00:16:31.88 like a-- no one would eat a 30 foot sugarcane. 00:16:31.91\00:16:37.28 But you find that, all sort of processed 00:16:37.31\00:16:39.55 or compressed in this one can of soda. 00:16:39.58\00:16:43.53 This is unnatural for-- 00:16:43.56\00:16:44.68 you said it's unnatural for the body's physiology. 00:16:44.71\00:16:47.68 Right, furthermore, 00:16:47.71\00:16:49.59 it's even more unnatural that that because one, 00:16:49.62\00:16:53.17 if you were to eat that 30 foot sugarcane, 00:16:53.20\00:16:58.38 you're actually gonna get sucrose, 00:16:58.41\00:17:01.75 which is actually natural sugar. 00:17:01.78\00:17:04.25 In that can of soda you're getting all this-- 00:17:04.28\00:17:07.21 "high fructose corn syrup." 00:17:07.24\00:17:09.29 I ask my patients, "When was the last time 00:17:09.32\00:17:11.37 you squeezed a cup of corn and got sick?" 00:17:11.40\00:17:15.77 Never and that's because there is no syrup in corn. 00:17:15.80\00:17:20.05 Corn syrup, number one, is an artificial product. 00:17:20.08\00:17:23.85 It's made by taking corn starch, 00:17:23.88\00:17:26.25 chemically breaking a part, 00:17:26.28\00:17:27.61 the starch molecules into sugar, adding water, 00:17:27.64\00:17:30.94 then they take that sugar water 00:17:30.97\00:17:33.61 and send it through another chemical process 00:17:33.64\00:17:35.92 which rearranges the glucose molecules 00:17:35.95\00:17:38.61 into fructose molecules. 00:17:38.64\00:17:40.63 And so what you have is a chemically produced 00:17:40.66\00:17:44.05 completely unnatural product, which is then turned around 00:17:44.08\00:17:47.92 and put into these soft drinks, fed to our children. 00:17:47.95\00:17:51.06 And it makes them obese, diabetic 00:17:51.09\00:17:53.58 and have all sorts of health problems. 00:17:53.61\00:17:56.02 And I might add, the same thing happens to the adults. 00:17:56.05\00:17:59.22 So this is completely unnatural and very unhealthy. 00:17:59.25\00:18:03.44 Now it makes me think about, you know, sometimes 00:18:03.47\00:18:06.03 when you're in the grocery store 00:18:06.06\00:18:07.21 and you see these two leaders, these huge things of-- 00:18:07.24\00:18:11.01 Oh, disgusting. 00:18:11.04\00:18:12.07 And it's-- and then you look and you wonder, 00:18:12.10\00:18:14.10 well, where is the, where is the water, 00:18:14.13\00:18:16.85 where's the, you know, the natural foods. 00:18:16.88\00:18:19.48 And it's all so processed but we're talking about water 00:18:19.51\00:18:22.37 but there is a price that has to be paid 00:18:22.40\00:18:26.14 when someone is constantly-- I've heard people who say, 00:18:26.17\00:18:28.67 "I don't even like water. 00:18:28.70\00:18:30.17 I don't like to drink water. 00:18:30.20\00:18:31.91 Just give me my soda or my juice." 00:18:31.94\00:18:34.64 There's a price to pay on the kidneys. 00:18:34.67\00:18:38.22 Where will that lead to because we're seeing dialysis? 00:18:38.25\00:18:41.99 Absolutely. 00:18:42.02\00:18:43.05 That's just-- all of the chart is expensive, 00:18:43.08\00:18:45.56 it's inconvenient, it's cumbersome. 00:18:45.59\00:18:47.79 Talk about that for a second. 00:18:47.82\00:18:48.88 This is people who are not drinking water, right. 00:18:48.91\00:18:50.93 It's going to lead to all kinds of disease. 00:18:50.96\00:18:53.08 It's going to-- You know I often ask-- again, 00:18:53.11\00:18:58.11 groups that I speak to. 00:18:58.14\00:18:59.64 I ask them, "If I would have ask you 00:18:59.67\00:19:01.40 what is the leading cause of disability 00:19:01.43\00:19:04.40 in African-American men between the ages of 25 and 55? 00:19:04.43\00:19:08.90 Is it gunshots? Is it auto accidents? 00:19:08.93\00:19:12.94 Is it HIV disease or none of the above? 00:19:12.97\00:19:16.20 Many people pick one of those three problems. 00:19:16.23\00:19:19.69 It's actually stroke 00:19:19.72\00:19:21.75 from untreated high blood pressure 00:19:21.78\00:19:24.53 and that can be directly traced to things like 00:19:24.56\00:19:27.85 drinking all of these sugary drinks, 00:19:27.88\00:19:30.55 not getting enough water 00:19:30.58\00:19:32.91 and other dietary indiscretions. 00:19:32.94\00:19:35.66 So these things do come with a price 00:19:35.69\00:19:38.13 and that price is the diseases 00:19:38.16\00:19:41.40 that result from inappropriate dietary habits like 00:19:41.43\00:19:44.82 not drinking enough water, drinking too many sugary drinks 00:19:44.85\00:19:48.64 and so on and so forth. 00:19:48.67\00:19:50.17 So yes, there's a terrible price to be paid 00:19:50.20\00:19:53.01 and we have to make changes 00:19:53.04\00:19:55.15 if we want to preserve our health. 00:19:55.18\00:19:57.33 You know what, those are excellent points. 00:19:57.36\00:19:59.19 Let's take a look-- We want to see 00:19:59.22\00:20:00.61 what the people are saying out there on the streets. 00:20:00.64\00:20:03.33 Do they understand the value of water, 00:20:03.36\00:20:06.23 the necessity of drinking water 00:20:06.26\00:20:07.87 and drinking it in the right amounts that you need? 00:20:07.90\00:20:10.88 And when we come back from the other side, 00:20:10.91\00:20:12.11 let's talk about, how much water should we be drinking? 00:20:12.14\00:20:14.36 Sure. All right. 00:20:14.39\00:20:17.67 All right, you don't drink milk that's fine. 00:20:17.70\00:20:19.00 You drink water? Yeah. 00:20:19.03\00:20:21.31 Why would you drink water? 00:20:21.34\00:20:23.51 I don't know, it just seems like you have to. 00:20:23.54\00:20:25.41 Seems like you have to-- you don't have to. 00:20:25.44\00:20:26.85 From now on, do not drink water, drink soda. 00:20:26.88\00:20:30.68 Do you like soda? 00:20:30.71\00:20:31.82 No, I don't just like, simple water. 00:20:31.85\00:20:34.58 What? Water. 00:20:34.61\00:20:35.70 Water? How do you do that? 00:20:35.73\00:20:38.26 That just tastes like nothing. 00:20:38.29\00:20:39.85 He's got water, wasting his arms' 00:20:39.88\00:20:42.17 strength holding some water out here. 00:20:42.20\00:20:44.41 Hey, you can do better than that. 00:20:44.44\00:20:46.04 How about water, you drink water? 00:20:46.07\00:20:47.10 Yeah, I love water. Oh, what a waste of time. 00:20:47.13\00:20:49.42 You like blue water? I have blue water, yeah. 00:20:49.45\00:20:52.19 Yeah, they've got blue water. He drinks it. 00:20:52.22\00:20:54.21 That is fantastic, it has got the good flavor. 00:20:54.24\00:20:56.01 Anyway, I won't advertise my blue water right now. 00:20:56.04\00:20:58.59 Back to you. 00:20:58.62\00:21:00.71 They are drinking everything but water. 00:21:00.74\00:21:03.60 So it's not just soda, it's also coffee and teas and-- 00:21:03.63\00:21:07.24 Well, number one, milk is not-- 00:21:07.27\00:21:08.80 should not even be considered a liquid 00:21:08.83\00:21:10.97 because as soon as it heats, your stomach acts it, 00:21:11.00\00:21:13.91 you're stomach acid it colligates a form of solid. 00:21:13.94\00:21:17.09 So that's really not a liquid. 00:21:17.12\00:21:20.05 So you can't even consider that to be water, number one. 00:21:20.08\00:21:22.87 Oh, that is scary, I'm sorry. I've never heard that before. 00:21:22.90\00:21:26.82 You're saying that milk goes 00:21:26.85\00:21:28.02 into the stomach and it becomes-- 00:21:28.05\00:21:29.45 It curdles. It curdles. 00:21:29.48\00:21:30.72 Yeah, it forms a solid. 00:21:30.75\00:21:32.11 But that's what it is supposed to do. 00:21:32.14\00:21:33.83 Milk is designed to be a food for baby mammals 00:21:33.86\00:21:40.35 and it's designed to be a liquid form of a solid food 00:21:40.38\00:21:44.00 that when it hits the baby's stomach acid, 00:21:44.03\00:21:46.73 it forms a solid 00:21:46.76\00:21:47.79 and that's the way it feeds the baby. 00:21:47.82\00:21:50.14 Now again this is another story. 00:21:50.17\00:21:54.83 We've done a program on milk, 00:21:54.86\00:21:56.72 but I've never heard that before. 00:21:56.75\00:21:57.78 Adult animals shouldn't be drinking milk 00:21:57.81\00:22:00.10 but, you know, that's another story, 00:22:00.13\00:22:02.46 but just suffice it to say that you shouldn't consider milk 00:22:02.49\00:22:05.80 as a way to get liquid because it really isn't. 00:22:05.83\00:22:08.34 But you see have kids coming in from playing sports 00:22:08.37\00:22:11.49 and they're thirsty. 00:22:11.52\00:22:12.58 They're looking for-- even the commercials. 00:22:12.61\00:22:15.08 The commercials show them, 00:22:15.11\00:22:16.14 they come home and they go near the fridge, 00:22:16.17\00:22:17.30 they pull out and drink the milk-- 00:22:17.33\00:22:18.36 That's exactly-- and why is that? 00:22:18.39\00:22:20.49 That's because the dairy board wants your money. 00:22:20.52\00:22:23.34 They don't care about your health. 00:22:23.37\00:22:25.52 The dairy board will show you African-Americans drinking milk 00:22:25.55\00:22:28.64 even though they know that 70 percent of us 00:22:28.67\00:22:30.81 are lactose intolerant. 00:22:30.84\00:22:33.05 Now the fact that you will drink that milk 00:22:33.08\00:22:34.92 and then develop stomach cramps 00:22:34.95\00:22:36.95 and diarrhea and gas and bloating 00:22:36.98\00:22:39.15 they don't mention that-- 00:22:39.18\00:22:40.63 Because once they get you to drink it, 00:22:40.66\00:22:42.51 they have your money 00:22:42.54\00:22:43.57 and they don't care about the health consequences. 00:22:43.60\00:22:46.73 So how much water should we be drinking? 00:22:46.76\00:22:48.27 Okay, that's a very good question 00:22:48.30\00:22:50.13 and there're a number of different formulas. 00:22:50.16\00:22:52.48 You know, people say eight ounces 00:22:52.51\00:22:54.36 or-- excuse me, eight glasses of water a day, 00:22:54.39\00:22:57.90 you know, some people use a body weight formula. 00:22:57.93\00:23:01.40 And many of these formulas are valid and very good-- 00:23:01.43\00:23:04.90 Well, at least people are drinking water. 00:23:04.93\00:23:06.67 You've got something better. 00:23:06.70\00:23:07.73 I try to give my patients a very practical way of gauging 00:23:07.76\00:23:11.49 how much water to drink, and this is the analogy I use. 00:23:11.52\00:23:15.80 I tell them, if you went to take a bath, 00:23:15.83\00:23:18.46 you ran a tub full of clean water, 00:23:18.49\00:23:20.82 you got in it, you took your bath 00:23:20.85\00:23:22.51 and when you stepped out the water will look like mud. 00:23:22.54\00:23:25.00 What would that tell you? You need to bath more often. 00:23:25.03\00:23:27.53 Oh, oh, I know where you're going with this. 00:23:27.56\00:23:28.59 So if you go and you pee and your urine is dark yellow 00:23:28.62\00:23:33.23 that tells you, you are dirty inside. 00:23:33.26\00:23:35.90 So you need to drink enough water 00:23:35.93\00:23:38.46 throughout the course of the day 00:23:38.49\00:23:40.33 so that your urine is pale yellow to clear. 00:23:40.36\00:23:44.10 That tells you that you're keeping yourself 00:23:44.13\00:23:46.38 adequately hydrated. 00:23:46.41\00:23:47.91 And I know people who will say, 00:23:47.94\00:23:49.19 "Oh, yeah, I drink six glasses of water in the morning." 00:23:49.22\00:23:52.31 Well, that makes no sense. 00:23:52.34\00:23:53.87 That's like taking the shower, 00:23:53.90\00:23:55.81 going out and running a marathon 00:23:55.84\00:23:57.78 and then not bathing for the rest of the day. 00:23:57.81\00:23:59.67 You're gonna stink. 00:23:59.70\00:24:00.73 So you need to drink your water 00:24:00.76\00:24:05.26 distributed throughout the day 00:24:05.29\00:24:07.63 because again, your body is constantly metabolizing, 00:24:07.66\00:24:12.35 making those toxins, 00:24:12.38\00:24:13.79 you need to be continually flushing yourself 00:24:13.82\00:24:16.64 and your system out. 00:24:16.67\00:24:17.74 Dr. Mills, you have a way of putting 00:24:17.77\00:24:20.06 probably giving them a point. 00:24:20.09\00:24:22.80 You're gonna stink. 00:24:22.83\00:24:26.24 That's just the way it is. 00:24:26.27\00:24:27.99 Let's just be real, let's be real. 00:24:28.02\00:24:29.66 So you make a very good point though. 00:24:29.69\00:24:31.56 It's-- You have consider time, place and occasion 00:24:31.59\00:24:34.11 if you are exercising, if you're doing something-- 00:24:34.14\00:24:38.42 by the way, you lose water, 00:24:38.45\00:24:40.78 and I think it will be giving you something. 00:24:40.81\00:24:41.84 Absolutely that's a very good point. 00:24:41.87\00:24:43.56 So if you are sweating, you're loosing water, 00:24:43.59\00:24:46.90 even if you're talking a lot you're loosing water. 00:24:46.93\00:24:49.95 I talk a lot, so I need to be drinking water 00:24:49.98\00:24:52.15 because when we talk, we-- 00:24:52.18\00:24:53.75 You are, yes, you are loosing 00:24:53.78\00:24:55.67 more and more water, a very good point. 00:24:55.70\00:24:57.93 So you have to consider, are you working out, 00:24:57.96\00:25:01.18 are you exercising and other things sugary drinks, 00:25:01.21\00:25:05.15 milk, coffee nothing is gonna do it-- 00:25:05.18\00:25:07.21 No substitute. You have to have water. 00:25:07.24\00:25:10.03 Right, and again, people have said to me, 00:25:10.06\00:25:12.41 "I don't like the taste of water." 00:25:12.44\00:25:14.37 Then you know, what my answer to that is, prayer. 00:25:14.40\00:25:17.81 No, why do I say that 00:25:17.84\00:25:21.06 because there was a time in my life, 00:25:21.09\00:25:22.40 I didn't like water. 00:25:22.43\00:25:24.15 I didn't like the taste of it, 00:25:24.18\00:25:25.99 but I knew I needed to drink it. 00:25:26.02\00:25:27.72 So I just said, you know, Lord, I know 00:25:27.75\00:25:30.16 You want me to drink more water. 00:25:30.19\00:25:31.52 I know I need to drink this. 00:25:31.55\00:25:33.20 Give me the taste for this water. 00:25:33.23\00:25:36.38 And He did and now I crave it. 00:25:36.41\00:25:39.19 You crave it now. 00:25:39.22\00:25:40.26 I crave it and if I don't have enough water 00:25:40.29\00:25:44.02 my body tells me, you need to get water. 00:25:44.05\00:25:46.61 You need to drink it. 00:25:46.64\00:25:47.68 And it's-- I mean, I love the taste of water now. 00:25:47.71\00:25:50.65 Okay, so somebody out there is thinking, 00:25:50.68\00:25:52.42 okay, you're convincing me, 00:25:52.45\00:25:54.30 I'm gonna start drinking more water. 00:25:54.33\00:25:56.15 Now what kind of water do I need to drink? 00:25:56.18\00:25:57.36 Do I need to drink Kangen water or Kangen 00:25:57.39\00:25:59.83 some people call it, its alkaline water. 00:25:59.86\00:26:01.71 And we don't have much time but we want to get them 00:26:01.74\00:26:03.77 something practical that they can start to do. 00:26:03.80\00:26:06.41 Kangen water, is alkaline water, 00:26:06.44\00:26:09.19 should it be spring water, should it be distilled water, 00:26:09.22\00:26:11.58 should it be reverse osmosis water, 00:26:11.61\00:26:14.18 what kind of water? 00:26:14.21\00:26:15.33 Okay. In 30 seconds. 00:26:15.36\00:26:16.49 Right, I'm gonna give you my personal preference. 00:26:16.52\00:26:21.99 The most important thing is to drink water. 00:26:22.02\00:26:24.60 If you have a choice, 00:26:24.63\00:26:27.17 I think distilled water is the best option 00:26:27.20\00:26:30.41 and if you can't get distilled try to get purified. 00:26:30.44\00:26:33.03 That's reverse osmosis or RO water. 00:26:33.06\00:26:35.84 Sure, because basically all you want 00:26:35.87\00:26:39.14 are two Hs and one O, okay. 00:26:39.17\00:26:44.25 I like that. 00:26:44.28\00:26:45.31 Yeah, you just want water and you don't need, 00:26:45.34\00:26:48.19 because people say, "Well, you need the alkaline." 00:26:48.22\00:26:49.80 No, you don't. 00:26:49.83\00:26:50.89 The great thing about a plant based diet 00:26:50.92\00:26:52.80 is that plant foods are very alkaline. 00:26:52.83\00:26:55.21 They will give you all the alkali that you need. 00:26:55.24\00:26:58.10 You don't need to get it from your water 00:26:58.13\00:27:00.12 plus all you will get from the amount of-- 00:27:00.15\00:27:02.47 from alkaline water are very small amounts of alkali. 00:27:02.50\00:27:05.55 Most of it comes from the diet. 00:27:05.58\00:27:07.16 You don't need to get it from your water. 00:27:07.19\00:27:09.04 Just drink as pure water as you can get, 00:27:09.07\00:27:12.95 your diet will take care of the rest. 00:27:12.98\00:27:15.03 Praise the Lord.
