Leviticus 11 is a powerful chapter in the Bible. 00:00:01.96\00:00:04.85 In verse 2 it reads, "Speak unto the children of Israel, 00:00:04.88\00:00:08.78 saying, these are the beasts which ye shall eat 00:00:08.81\00:00:12.40 among all the beasts that are on the earth." 00:00:12.43\00:00:15.51 It goes on to mention the camel 00:00:15.54\00:00:17.49 the coney which is a rabbit, the hare, 00:00:17.52\00:00:20.43 the swine and it says, "They are unclean to you." 00:00:20.46\00:00:25.88 Leviticus 11 is a powerful chapter. 00:00:25.91\00:00:28.83 Hello, I'm Rico Hill, the host of "From Sickness to Health" 00:00:28.86\00:00:31.72 and this is-- 00:00:31.75\00:00:34.46 you all right? 00:00:34.49\00:00:35.56 Yeah, I'm just feeling little sick. 00:00:35.59\00:00:37.78 Well, okay a-- wait a minute, 00:00:37.81\00:00:40.47 you go by the name sickness and you're feeling sick. 00:00:40.50\00:00:43.18 Yes, so? 00:00:43.21\00:00:44.77 I'm just saying the irony, all right. 00:00:44.80\00:00:46.58 Something I ate went down the wrong way. 00:00:46.61\00:00:47.93 Okay, stay there, I'll get you some water, 00:00:47.96\00:00:48.99 some water all right. 00:00:49.02\00:00:50.05 No, no, no I've already tried that. 00:00:50.08\00:00:51.87 All right, all right, let's try this, try this. 00:00:51.90\00:00:53.71 Here you go.Here you go. Lard, oh, that's a great one. 00:04:38.11\00:04:40.97 You know, lard is pork-fat, not a lot of people know that. 00:04:41.00\00:04:44.04 Sneaky, I know. So anyway, that's what I do. 00:04:44.07\00:04:47.46 I've sent out invitations to all my health nut friends. 00:04:47.49\00:04:50.47 They're coming expecting this great meal 00:04:50.50\00:04:52.73 and I'm gonna make sure it's amazing. 00:04:52.76\00:04:55.36 You know, one last ingredient, 00:04:55.39\00:04:56.60 I had to consider is, you got to make sure, 00:04:56.63\00:05:00.12 some of these guys are technically not unclean. 00:05:00.15\00:05:03.61 So I'm gonna scrub them down real nice. 00:05:03.64\00:05:06.42 Back to you, Rico. 00:05:06.45\00:05:08.35 So shrimp, lobster, lard. 00:05:09.07\00:05:14.79 So let's start out by what's the Book of Leviticus tells us 00:05:14.82\00:05:20.45 that there're some issues. 00:05:20.48\00:05:21.51 God says there's an issue with eating certain foods. 00:05:21.54\00:05:25.09 He deems them unclean to us, 00:05:25.12\00:05:28.49 as we saw in the opening of the program. 00:05:28.52\00:05:31.06 But let's hear from you. 00:05:31.09\00:05:32.75 What's wrong with lobster? 00:05:32.78\00:05:34.85 What's wrong with shrimp? What's wrong with pork? 00:05:34.88\00:05:39.16 Okay. 00:05:39.19\00:05:40.44 Well, first of all as a physician 00:05:40.47\00:05:43.85 I just have to point out that 00:05:43.88\00:05:47.04 that chapter in Leviticus makes it clear 00:05:47.07\00:05:50.94 that God actually wanted 00:05:50.97\00:05:53.26 the Israelites to be plant eaters, 00:05:53.29\00:05:56.04 but they demanded meat. 00:05:56.07\00:05:58.62 And that upset Him because that wasn't His original plan. 00:05:58.65\00:06:02.24 Genesis makes it clear 00:06:02.27\00:06:04.48 that He designed us to be pure plant eaters. 00:06:04.51\00:06:09.16 When He brought them out of Egypt 00:06:09.19\00:06:10.98 he fed them only with manna, 00:06:11.01\00:06:13.24 which Psalms 78 describes being as being the corn of heaven-- 00:06:13.27\00:06:18.05 Angels' food. 00:06:18.08\00:06:19.23 Angels' food, absolutely. 00:06:19.26\00:06:20.74 But the Israelites demanded flesh 00:06:20.77\00:06:23.24 because they were so addicted to eating animal flesh 00:06:23.27\00:06:27.15 from their the time that they spent in Egypt 00:06:27.18\00:06:29.70 and we can do-- You can, maybe, at some point 00:06:29.73\00:06:33.06 do another program on why animal-- 00:06:33.09\00:06:35.34 eating animal flesh is so addictive. 00:06:35.37\00:06:38.14 But that's for another time. 00:06:38.17\00:06:40.37 But they were addicted to it. So God said, "Okay, fine. 00:06:40.40\00:06:43.46 If you're going to eat it, there are certain types 00:06:43.49\00:06:47.53 that you can eat but other types you can never touch." 00:06:47.56\00:06:51.96 Under no circumstances. 00:06:51.99\00:06:53.20 Under no circumstances. 00:06:53.23\00:06:54.74 And so He gave them a list of the clean and the unclean. 00:06:54.77\00:06:58.89 But wait a minute now. 00:06:58.92\00:06:59.95 That's the Law of Moses that's found in, 00:06:59.98\00:07:02.31 you know, the Old Testament. 00:07:02.34\00:07:03.80 And that's what people would say. 00:07:03.83\00:07:04.87 No, that's not true. 00:07:04.90\00:07:06.63 The concept of clean versus unclean 00:07:06.66\00:07:08.97 existed from the very beginning 00:07:09.00\00:07:11.06 because Noah took the clean animals into the Ark by sevens 00:07:11.09\00:07:15.79 and the unclean, he only took in by twos. 00:07:15.82\00:07:19.02 And that was because one, 00:07:19.05\00:07:21.92 the clean animals were to be used both, 00:07:21.95\00:07:24.14 for sacrifice and temporarily for food 00:07:24.17\00:07:27.95 because all of the vegetation was going to be destroyed 00:07:27.98\00:07:30.85 post flood and it need time to regenerate. 00:07:30.88\00:07:33.93 But the unclean were never to be eaten. 00:07:33.96\00:07:37.58 Oh, wait, wait, wait so there was a specific purpose 00:07:37.61\00:07:43.24 for the unclean one so there's must have been" 00:07:43.27\00:07:45.92 because God said, "Take them onto the boat." 00:07:45.95\00:07:47.27 Right. 00:07:47.30\00:07:48.35 So there's must have been-- So what is the purpose, 00:07:48.38\00:07:50.12 if we are not supposed to eat them, 00:07:50.15\00:07:51.79 what are we supposed to do with the shrimp 00:07:51.82\00:07:53.85 and the lobster and the crab. 00:07:53.88\00:07:55.83 People love their crab. You're from the Maryland area. 00:07:55.86\00:07:58.63 They say, you know, crab lovers is Maryland, right. 00:07:58.66\00:08:02.59 Right. 00:08:02.62\00:08:03.78 They are designed to clean up the environment. 00:08:03.81\00:08:07.45 Any dead thing that floats to the bottom of the ocean 00:08:07.48\00:08:12.59 crabs will immediate-- crabs, 00:08:12.62\00:08:14.84 lobsters will immediately gravitate towards that dead 00:08:14.87\00:08:20.81 whatever it is and begin to eat it. 00:08:20.84\00:08:23.92 And they essentially clean it up by ingesting it. 00:08:23.95\00:08:28.06 That's there job. 00:08:28.09\00:08:29.57 Mussels and clams will actually filter 00:08:29.60\00:08:34.21 waste material out of the water. 00:08:34.24\00:08:37.82 You can actually take raw sewage 00:08:37.85\00:08:40.73 and pass it over a bed of oyster and mussels 00:08:40.76\00:08:44.55 and it will come out crystal clear at the other end. 00:08:44.58\00:08:48.92 Why? 00:08:48.95\00:08:50.00 Because they actually filter all of that organic material 00:08:50.03\00:08:54.53 out of the water and they consume it. 00:08:54.56\00:08:57.34 That's their job. 00:08:57.37\00:08:58.61 That's what they are designed to do. 00:08:58.64\00:09:00.36 They do it very well but if you then turn around 00:09:00.39\00:09:03.50 and ingest their tissues you are in essence eating 00:09:03.53\00:09:07.68 fickle material, which is disgusting. 00:09:07.71\00:09:10.43 When you said raw sewage, 00:09:10.46\00:09:11.99 that's what you were talking about. 00:09:12.02\00:09:13.07 That's exactly what I'm talking about. 00:09:13.10\00:09:14.36 So we find now that a lot of the sewage 00:09:14.39\00:09:17.91 for whatever reason is finding its way into our waterways. 00:09:17.94\00:09:21.50 Is that correct? 00:09:21.53\00:09:23.55 And that's so-- that's exactly 00:09:23.58\00:09:26.06 what our sewage treatment plants do. 00:09:26.09\00:09:28.38 They take the raw sewage, we flush down our toilets, 00:09:28.41\00:09:32.01 emulsify it and it goes out into the waterways, 00:09:32.04\00:09:35.64 the shellfish actually take that stuff, they consume it, 00:09:35.67\00:09:40.04 clear the water and they actually incorporate 00:09:40.07\00:09:44.90 the sewage into their tissues. 00:09:44.93\00:09:47.99 That's what they're designed to do. 00:09:48.02\00:09:50.58 That is the way God designed them to clean the environment. 00:09:50.61\00:09:54.77 So God had a design to actually clean our waterways, 00:09:54.80\00:09:59.08 so that they would be safe? 00:09:59.11\00:10:00.24 Absolutely. 00:10:00.27\00:10:01.41 But we find that He also had a design 00:10:01.44\00:10:03.45 to how to clean the land. 00:10:03.48\00:10:05.16 We're talking about the swine or the pork, pigs. 00:10:05.19\00:10:08.74 They were the land animals. 00:10:08.77\00:10:10.29 They were part of those two by two 00:10:10.32\00:10:13.27 that were taken onto the Ark. 00:10:13.30\00:10:14.82 And their job was to clean up all the mess, wasn't it. 00:10:14.85\00:10:16.97 Yes, it was. 00:10:17.00\00:10:18.04 Let's see if-- 00:10:18.07\00:10:19.12 And yes, it is. 00:10:19.15\00:10:20.23 And yes, it is. Still currently, right. 00:10:20.26\00:10:22.13 Yes. 00:10:22.16\00:10:23.24 So let's see, let's take a look at this news clip 00:10:23.27\00:10:25.09 and maybe we can get some further insights; 00:10:25.12\00:10:27.24 was God right? 00:10:27.27\00:10:28.31 Let's see. Sure. 00:10:28.34\00:10:29.53 A big consumer report study found 00:10:31.86\00:10:33.81 a high rate of contamination in pork chops 00:10:33.84\00:10:36.52 and ground pork from a kind of bacteria 00:10:36.55\00:10:39.57 that continued to the emergency room. 00:10:39.60\00:10:41.95 ABC's Dr. Richard Besser brings us the whole picture. 00:10:41.98\00:10:44.52 You don't know its name, but you may be 00:10:45.68\00:10:47.83 one of the hundred thousand Americans, 00:10:47.86\00:10:49.49 who get sick each year from a bacteria called Yersinia. 00:10:49.52\00:10:53.34 And today's study explains why. 00:10:53.37\00:10:55.84 Consumer reports tested pork 00:10:55.87\00:10:57.80 the types you buy in the supermarket 00:10:57.83\00:10:59.70 including pork chops and ground pork. 00:10:59.73\00:11:02.11 They found that nearly 70 percent of the samples 00:11:02.14\00:11:04.40 they tested had the dangerous bacteria Yersinia on them. 00:11:04.43\00:11:07.75 Ground pork turned out to be 00:11:07.78\00:11:09.16 even more risky than pork chops. 00:11:09.19\00:11:11.00 This should be a wake up call to the American public. 00:11:11.03\00:11:13.36 What are we doing in terms of monitoring 00:11:13.39\00:11:15.60 the safety of pork and what can we do in future? 00:11:15.63\00:11:18.46 Wow, you know, there's something 00:11:19.48\00:11:21.33 that stood out to me about that clip doctor 00:11:21.36\00:11:23.67 is that you heard the response from the woman. 00:11:23.70\00:11:25.97 She said, we have to do something to monitor 00:11:26.00\00:11:29.49 the safety of, you know, 00:11:29.52\00:11:31.00 what can we do to make it more safe, 00:11:31.03\00:11:32.77 basically is what she was saying. 00:11:32.80\00:11:34.30 But when you're saying numbers like 68 percent of, 00:11:34.33\00:11:37.36 like, some of the pork chop, 00:11:37.39\00:11:39.01 the chops inand 74 percent of the ground pork 00:11:39.04\00:11:44.34 having this bacteria Yersinia, 00:11:44.37\00:11:47.46 and it's causing all these health issues. 00:11:47.49\00:11:49.11 I mean, it's a waste of time, isn't it. 00:11:49.14\00:11:51.84 Because God insists, you can't eat it. 00:11:51.87\00:11:53.83 Let's talk about the pig. 00:11:53.86\00:11:55.03 He said, "Don't touch it." 00:11:55.06\00:11:56.76 And it's amazing to me that the response 00:11:56.79\00:12:02.57 of the sort of health department is, 00:12:02.60\00:12:08.07 well, this stuff is loaded with dangerous bacteria. 00:12:08.10\00:12:12.00 So let's try and monitor the food to-- 00:12:12.03\00:12:19.51 try and catch it before it kills. 00:12:19.54\00:12:21.48 I mean, that's crazy. 00:12:21.51\00:12:23.53 We shouldn't be eating it in the first place. 00:12:23.56\00:12:27.06 This stuff is riven with these 00:12:27.09\00:12:29.66 very dangerous types of bacteria. 00:12:29.69\00:12:32.99 Furthermore, the-- it's a kind of worm 00:12:33.02\00:12:36.77 that everybody knows about is still present in pork, 00:12:36.80\00:12:40.35 which is why it is always recommended 00:12:40.38\00:12:43.49 that you cook pork to very high temperatures 00:12:43.52\00:12:46.44 in order to kill it. 00:12:46.47\00:12:48.03 Now in this country we don't see a lot of the problem 00:12:48.06\00:12:52.26 that comes from eating undercooked pork, 00:12:52.29\00:12:54.59 which is a brain infection called cysticercosis, 00:12:54.63\00:13:00.51 which is where people get these cysts in their brains, 00:13:00.54\00:13:04.00 which can cause seizures 00:13:04.03\00:13:05.45 and in certain cases even death. 00:13:05.48\00:13:07.80 But we do see it from-- in people coming 00:13:07.83\00:13:11.33 from other countries like Mexico 00:13:11.37\00:13:13.47 and certain Latin-American countries-- 00:13:13.50\00:13:15.13 And I just jump in for a second. 00:13:15.16\00:13:16.25 I was with one of my doctor friends this past weekend 00:13:16.28\00:13:19.61 and we were talking about the trichina worm, 00:13:19.64\00:13:21.81 the trichinosis that finds it way into people's bodies 00:13:21.84\00:13:25.06 and even lodges in their brains. 00:13:25.09\00:13:26.91 And we actually show a clip ordinarily 00:13:26.94\00:13:29.89 but we're not going to show that one 00:13:29.92\00:13:31.01 it would be too much for you to handle 00:13:31.04\00:13:32.66 but we have an operation of someone actually having-- 00:13:32.69\00:13:36.20 They thought the women had a brain tumor only to go in 00:13:36.23\00:13:39.90 and they found the worm. 00:13:39.93\00:13:41.31 It had grown to a couple of inches in size. 00:13:41.34\00:13:44.78 And they had to remove it and it was still alive. 00:13:44.81\00:13:47.28 This is the thing. 00:13:47.31\00:13:48.35 But the cysticercosis you're talking about, 00:13:48.38\00:13:51.27 this doctor shared with us this past weekend 00:13:51.30\00:13:53.40 that there's almost 90 percent of his surgeries, 00:13:53.43\00:13:58.39 they're seeing it in his patients. 00:13:58.42\00:14:00.61 Right. 00:14:00.64\00:14:01.68 So it's happening. This is becoming pervasive. 00:14:01.71\00:14:03.48 Right, this is still very prevalent. 00:14:03.51\00:14:05.99 So it's the trichina worm, it's the Yersinia and then, 00:14:06.02\00:14:11.49 you know, there's this campaign in the pork industry to try 00:14:11.52\00:14:15.41 and pass pork off as white meat. 00:14:15.45\00:14:17.95 They say pork, the other white meat. 00:14:17.98\00:14:20.31 That is-- That's marketing, isn't it? 00:14:20.34\00:14:21.62 Yeah, that is marketing because it's an absolute lie. 00:14:21.65\00:14:25.16 The leanest cuts of pork you can buy 00:14:25.20\00:14:27.90 are still over 50 percent fat by calories. 00:14:27.93\00:14:32.43 So pork is extremely high in fat 00:14:32.46\00:14:35.32 and that is very unhealthy. 00:14:35.35\00:14:37.70 It will raise your risk for heart disease, 00:14:37.73\00:14:40.41 number of cancers and other health problems, 00:14:40.44\00:14:43.66 as well as, dealing with all of these infections 00:14:43.69\00:14:46.06 that we're talking about. 00:14:46.10\00:14:47.43 So again God said don't touch it. 00:14:47.46\00:14:50.26 He knew what He was talking about 00:14:50.29\00:14:51.96 because this is very unhealthy food. 00:14:51.99\00:14:55.63 Okay, let's make this very practical 00:14:55.66\00:14:57.56 because in lot of communities, certainly in our community, 00:14:57.59\00:15:02.43 I mean we come from and I mean, 00:15:02.46\00:15:03.67 you're working in the same place where I grew up. 00:15:03.70\00:15:06.57 So we have a large African-American community, 00:15:06.60\00:15:09.10 we have a large Hispanic community in our cities. 00:15:09.13\00:15:12.16 And some of the foods that we just love, 00:15:12.19\00:15:15.64 absolutely tied to tradition is soul food. 00:15:15.67\00:15:20.64 And in soul food we are talking about fried foods. 00:15:20.67\00:15:23.16 Fry this, fry that. 00:15:23.19\00:15:24.53 But let's break it down, let's be very practical 00:15:24.56\00:15:27.40 because people are hearing this and there're saying, 00:15:27.43\00:15:29.65 oh, they're talking about my food. 00:15:29.68\00:15:31.97 Well, we are talking about, we talked about shrimp, 00:15:32.00\00:15:34.01 we talked about crab lovers, very toxic, 00:15:34.04\00:15:37.33 we are talking about lobsters, we won't find that as much 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.00 but still we have our version the shrimp version, 00:15:40.03\00:15:43.05 the tiny version of the lobster. 00:15:43.08\00:15:44.82 But we're talking about pork in all of its form. 00:15:44.85\00:15:47.51 Bacon, ham, talking about, what else, ham,-- 00:15:47.54\00:15:55.41 Chitterlings, meatballs, oxtails. 00:15:55.44\00:15:58.29 I don't want to go there 00:15:58.32\00:15:59.35 but we just went there, chitterlings, 00:15:59.38\00:16:00.74 but it's something, it's real. 00:16:00.78\00:16:02.22 And this we're talking about the intestines, 00:16:02.25\00:16:04.64 the pig intestines. 00:16:04.67\00:16:05.88 And this is something that coming up, 00:16:05.91\00:16:08.75 you know, in months to come, 00:16:08.78\00:16:10.58 we're gonna see lots of it for new years 00:16:10.62\00:16:13.47 and all these different holidays. 00:16:13.50\00:16:14.79 People bring out their chitterlings 00:16:14.82\00:16:16.27 and we're talking about something 00:16:16.31\00:16:17.55 that is so dangerous for us to eat. 00:16:17.58\00:16:20.21 Absolutely, first of all it's notsoul food, 00:16:20.58\00:16:22.66 its plantation food 00:16:22.70\00:16:24.39 because West Africans don't eat this way. 00:16:24.42\00:16:28.11 Traditional West Africans did not include 00:16:28.14\00:16:31.47 these kinds of foods in their diet. 00:16:31.50\00:16:33.02 And the reason why you're saying West Africans 00:16:33.06\00:16:34.97 is because most African-American 00:16:35.00\00:16:36.61 who have come here came from the western part-- 00:16:36.64\00:16:39.37 West Africa, that's where, the slaves were obtained-- 00:16:39.40\00:16:42.68 But that's not their diet. 00:16:42.71\00:16:43.93 That's not their traditional diet. 00:16:43.97\00:16:45.92 What happened was when these West Africans 00:16:45.95\00:16:48.35 were brought to the American plantations 00:16:48.38\00:16:50.89 they were literally forced to eat 00:16:50.92\00:16:53.18 the garbage of the plantation. 00:16:53.21\00:16:55.04 So that's why they were forced to eat the entrails of the pig, 00:16:55.07\00:16:58.97 the pig's feet, its ears, its tails, 00:16:59.00\00:17:01.87 the ox, the cow's neck bones, the cow's tail. 00:17:01.90\00:17:07.75 All of these things were the things 00:17:07.78\00:17:10.02 that they would ordinarily throw away 00:17:10.05\00:17:11.89 but instead of throwing them away 00:17:11.92\00:17:13.32 they fed them to the slaves. 00:17:13.35\00:17:15.07 Unfortunately, when the slaves are freed, 00:17:15.10\00:17:17.60 they turned around and owned 00:17:17.63\00:17:19.34 what is essentially a dietary wastage of slavery. 00:17:19.37\00:17:23.05 And we know that these foods are higher in cholesterol, 00:17:23.08\00:17:26.67 higher in fat, cause excess rates of disease 00:17:26.70\00:17:30.33 and are very unhealthy. 00:17:30.36\00:17:31.95 And we need to reject these foods and get back 00:17:31.98\00:17:35.52 to what is our true dietary heritage and that is a low fat, 00:17:35.55\00:17:40.14 plant based diet that does not include 00:17:40.17\00:17:43.08 these very unhealthy dietary echoes of slavery past. 00:17:43.11\00:17:49.54 Now, you know, some would say, 00:17:49.57\00:17:50.73 well, it tastes so good. 00:17:50.76\00:17:52.09 First of all, it taste, 00:17:52.12\00:17:53.59 we've been eating it for years and, you know,-- 00:17:53.62\00:17:57.05 Let me just play the advocate here. 00:17:57.08\00:17:58.35 Sure. 00:17:58.38\00:17:59.41 They'll say, well, you know, 00:17:59.44\00:18:00.47 we've been eating this way for years. 00:18:00.50\00:18:01.60 Right. 00:18:01.63\00:18:02.82 Grandma ate this way. Right. 00:18:02.85\00:18:04.13 And she lived to be 85 years old. 00:18:04.16\00:18:07.59 And-- 00:18:07.62\00:18:09.07 But what was wrong with grandma up to 85. 00:18:09.10\00:18:11.12 That's, that's exactly right. Grandma couldn't walk. 00:18:11.15\00:18:13.51 She, you know, had diabetes, she had heart disease, 00:18:13.54\00:18:18.07 she probably had cataracts. 00:18:18.10\00:18:19.41 And my point is, if she lived to be 85, 00:18:19.44\00:18:22.82 abusing herself, she probably would have lived to be 105, 00:18:22.85\00:18:26.96 if she had taken care of herself. 00:18:26.99\00:18:28.52 The other point is this, nobody ask for fried chicken, 00:18:28.55\00:18:32.74 a pork chop or chitterlings in the delivery room. 00:18:32.77\00:18:36.59 Everything we think we like we had to learn to like. 00:18:36.62\00:18:40.60 Babies are born without preferences. 00:18:40.63\00:18:43.05 They have to be taught to like these unhealthy foods. 00:18:43.08\00:18:46.83 And just like we learned to like unhealthy things, 00:18:46.86\00:18:50.79 we can unlearn those bad habits 00:18:50.82\00:18:52.89 and learn to like things that are good for us 00:18:52.92\00:18:55.43 and that actually promote 00:18:55.46\00:18:56.92 and preserve our health as oppose to destroying it. 00:18:56.95\00:19:00.81 Perfect, perfect. 00:19:00.84\00:19:01.89 You know what, as always we wanted not only hear 00:19:01.92\00:19:04.63 what you have to say, 00:19:04.66\00:19:06.01 we've heard the side of sickness 00:19:06.04\00:19:07.75 where he gives his point of view, you know, 00:19:07.78\00:19:09.73 in a sort of provocative way to stimulate the conversation. 00:19:09.76\00:19:13.12 We've looked at the news clip and we've seen, 00:19:13.15\00:19:15.46 you know, that in the news clip it's clear. 00:19:15.49\00:19:19.67 God said don't touch it and we're seeing that 00:19:19.70\00:19:21.99 it has dangerous bacteria. 00:19:22.02\00:19:23.58 So let's take a look 00:19:23.61\00:19:25.33 at what people are saying on the streets. 00:19:25.36\00:19:27.33 Because that's going to be important for our conversation 00:19:27.36\00:19:29.05 and I think our audience needs to hear it. 00:19:29.08\00:19:30.16 Absolutely. 00:19:30.19\00:19:31.26 What they think because other people 00:19:31.29\00:19:32.38 on the street are saying the same things. 00:19:32.41\00:19:33.47 So let's take a look. 00:19:33.50\00:19:34.53 All right, I'm here with my man Mark. 00:19:36.64\00:19:39.06 Mark, what do you think about, you ever heard 00:19:39.09\00:19:40.55 that discussion on clean and unclean food? 00:19:40.58\00:19:43.22 Oh, yeah. 00:19:43.25\00:19:44.53 Oh, yeah, he knows what he's talking about. 00:19:44.56\00:19:45.59 All right, so let's talk about lobster. 00:19:45.62\00:19:46.84 You've ever heard of lobster? Oh, yeah. 00:19:46.87\00:19:48.37 You like lobster. Yeah. 00:19:48.40\00:19:49.46 What do you like about it? 00:19:49.49\00:19:50.52 Oh, the look of it, the taste, 00:19:50.55\00:19:54.13 did you see a lobster tail with some butter? 00:19:54.16\00:19:57.16 Oh, man, man, you're making me 00:19:57.19\00:19:58.62 what to eat some lobsters right now. 00:19:58.65\00:20:00.55 All right, what about shrimps, the jumbo shrimp, 00:20:00.58\00:20:02.88 pickle shrimp, 00:20:02.91\00:20:04.26 cocktail shrimp? 00:20:04.29\00:20:05.36 Coconut shrimp. 00:20:05.39\00:20:06.43 I don't like shrimp, I like shrimp. 00:20:06.46\00:20:07.86 There we go. 00:20:07.89\00:20:08.94 I can do a grill, I can do a saute. 00:20:08.97\00:20:11.05 And so a whole lot of different shrimps. 00:20:11.08\00:20:12.70 Crab right here. Good stuff. 00:20:12.73\00:20:15.96 So here's the argument. 00:20:15.99\00:20:17.62 Some people say that lobsters are unclean. 00:20:17.65\00:20:21.51 What would you say to that person? 00:20:21.54\00:20:23.88 Lobster is delicious. 00:20:23.91\00:20:25.93 Lobster is delicious. I love this lady. 00:20:25.96\00:20:30.22 I don't know. 00:20:30.25\00:20:31.32 He doesn't know that's okay. Lobster. 00:20:31.35\00:20:33.14 What do you think of lobster? 00:20:33.17\00:20:34.73 Awesome, tasty. 00:20:34.76\00:20:36.05 Awesome, tasty. 00:20:36.08\00:20:37.37 What do you think about 00:20:37.40\00:20:38.50 this whole debate with religious people 00:20:38.53\00:20:39.89 and a lot of groups in the world, 00:20:39.92\00:20:41.30 clean and unclean foods? 00:20:41.33\00:20:42.94 You ever heard that argument? 00:20:42.97\00:20:45.48 Heard clean and unclean foods 00:20:45.51\00:20:46.92 but not associated with religious group, I mean. 00:20:46.95\00:20:49.65 Well, all right, when you say clean foods and unclean. 00:20:49.68\00:20:52.10 Give me an example of what people call unclean food. 00:20:52.13\00:20:55.56 Oh, anything that's taken out of its ripped processed foods. 00:20:55.59\00:21:00.81 Yeah, exactly. 00:21:00.84\00:21:01.90 So if I take a lobster and I wash it, 00:21:01.93\00:21:03.44 its clean, right. 00:21:03.47\00:21:04.59 Yeah. 00:21:04.62\00:21:05.73 Yeah, it's clean. That's exactly right. 00:21:05.76\00:21:07.75 Rico, the unclean meat eaters have spoken. 00:21:07.78\00:21:11.87 Back to you. 00:21:11.90\00:21:12.97 There you have it. They don't know. 00:21:15.52\00:21:17.36 No. 00:21:17.39\00:21:18.45 They don't know they are, you know, 00:21:18.48\00:21:20.54 they're walking blindly in a world 00:21:20.57\00:21:22.77 where God is trying to keep us on a narrow path of health 00:21:22.80\00:21:26.63 but anything and everything is out there for consumption 00:21:26.66\00:21:30.92 and yet it's making us sick, isn't it doctor. 00:21:30.95\00:21:33.15 Yes, it is. 00:21:33.18\00:21:34.22 You know, when my patients tell me, 00:21:34.25\00:21:35.58 oh, I love shrimp, I've to explain them. 00:21:35.61\00:21:37.76 I say, "You know, a shrimp is just 00:21:37.80\00:21:39.87 a big ocean growing cockroach." 00:21:39.91\00:21:41.82 What? 00:21:41.85\00:21:42.89 Yes, that's exactly what it is. 00:21:42.92\00:21:44.83 It does in the ocean what cockroaches do on land. 00:21:44.86\00:21:48.38 It runs around eating all the garbage. 00:21:48.41\00:21:50.61 Scavengers. 00:21:50.64\00:21:51.69 That's exactly right. So-- 00:21:51.72\00:21:53.20 And that's what is designed to do and it does it very well. 00:21:53.23\00:21:56.26 But if you want-- you wouldn't dare 00:21:56.29\00:21:59.34 touch a cockroach on land, 00:21:59.37\00:22:00.94 why you want to eat one from the ocean. 00:22:00.97\00:22:02.03 I don't even want to think about it. 00:22:02.06\00:22:03.36 Exactly. 00:22:03.39\00:22:04.59 Now, you know, what comes to my mind 00:22:04.62\00:22:06.81 to bring it back to God 00:22:06.84\00:22:08.76 and His designed and His purpose. 00:22:08.79\00:22:10.87 What was God's purpose? 00:22:10.90\00:22:11.93 I think that's where we need to start to go 00:22:11.96\00:22:13.78 because when I consider that God had a purpose 00:22:13.81\00:22:16.87 for these animals, for these creatures. 00:22:16.90\00:22:19.29 He has a purpose for our bodies. 00:22:19.32\00:22:21.30 In fact, I'm reminded of Psalm 100:3, it says, 00:22:21.33\00:22:26.49 "Know ye not that the Lord he is God, 00:22:26.52\00:22:30.82 it is he that have made us, and not we ourselves, 00:22:30.85\00:22:35.51 we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture." 00:22:35.54\00:22:38.54 Amen. 00:22:38.57\00:22:39.62 Psalm 100:3. So God wants us to know that He made us. 00:22:39.65\00:22:44.70 And He goes even further and says, 00:22:44.73\00:22:46.34 "You didn't make yourself." 00:22:46.37\00:22:48.59 So if God knows us and He made us, 00:22:48.62\00:22:52.49 He should know what will happen 00:22:52.52\00:22:54.91 when we put things into our body, not unlike the shrimp, 00:22:54.94\00:22:58.73 the crab, the clams, the oysters. 00:22:58.76\00:23:02.37 When we put them into our body, 00:23:02.40\00:23:03.43 they're toxic and He knew it, didn't He? 00:23:03.46\00:23:05.22 Yes, He did. 00:23:05.25\00:23:06.33 And also, I read earlier that-- oh, 00:23:06.36\00:23:09.45 we talked about earlier the-- 00:23:09.48\00:23:11.52 how God designed this body for plant based diet 00:23:11.55\00:23:14.14 and then there was emergency diet that God brought in. 00:23:14.17\00:23:17.49 And that was-- it was flesh foods, 00:23:17.52\00:23:20.19 but He says the blood, I'm going to-- 00:23:20.22\00:23:22.67 It's going to require your lives. 00:23:22.70\00:23:23.97 Now, you know, what I've heard, doctor? 00:23:24.00\00:23:26.26 When sharing that information, 00:23:26.29\00:23:27.71 you know, what people say? 00:23:27.74\00:23:28.81 Well, I am a New Testament Christian. 00:23:28.84\00:23:33.64 All those things don't matter to me 00:23:33.67\00:23:35.68 because you brought those from the Old Testament. 00:23:35.71\00:23:39.42 Now what's wrong with blood 00:23:39.45\00:23:41.03 and then I like to take a look at scripture. 00:23:41.06\00:23:42.98 What's the problem with the blood of animals? 00:23:43.01\00:23:46.00 Well, first of all, it's full of iron and again-- 00:23:46.03\00:23:49.07 That's not a bad thing, we need iron. 00:23:49.10\00:23:50.14 Yes, no, not a lot of it 00:23:50.17\00:23:52.46 because science is now telling us 00:23:52.49\00:23:54.37 that excess iron promotes disease. 00:23:54.40\00:23:57.89 It promotes cancer, it promotes infection, 00:23:57.92\00:24:01.51 it promotes auto immune disease. 00:24:01.54\00:24:04.48 When you get too much iron it causes disease 00:24:04.51\00:24:08.23 because iron is like a match. 00:24:08.26\00:24:11.49 It's a catalyst, it-- 00:24:11.52\00:24:13.99 its like-- it would be like having boxes 00:24:14.02\00:24:17.00 and boxes of matches stored in your living room. 00:24:17.04\00:24:20.55 You wouldn't dare do that. 00:24:20.58\00:24:21.93 Yeah, you want to have maybe a box of matches 00:24:21.96\00:24:24.13 to light your fireplace, 00:24:24.16\00:24:25.63 but you wouldn't want matches stacked up to the rafters 00:24:25.66\00:24:28.82 because it will start a fire eventually. 00:24:28.85\00:24:31.55 And that same thing happens in your body 00:24:31.58\00:24:34.92 when you have too much iron. 00:24:34.95\00:24:37.09 It causes runaway inflammatory disease. 00:24:37.12\00:24:41.29 Inflammation. Yes. 00:24:41.32\00:24:42.71 Which is a precursor to scar tissuing. 00:24:42.74\00:24:45.34 Well, and to all sorts of conditions. 00:24:45.37\00:24:47.20 Heart disease, cancer, infection, 00:24:47.23\00:24:50.07 auto immune problems. 00:24:50.10\00:24:51.37 So all these things are gonna 00:24:51.40\00:24:52.43 lead to dangerous lifestyle diseases that-- 00:24:52.46\00:24:55.56 And premature death. 00:24:55.59\00:24:56.66 And premature death. 00:24:56.69\00:24:59.14 Now I want to just-- I want to read something 00:24:59.17\00:25:01.15 from the Book of Acts 15:20, for those who would say 00:25:01.18\00:25:05.68 wait, wait, wait, wait that's Old Testament, 00:25:05.71\00:25:08.53 I'll allow you to comment. 00:25:08.56\00:25:09.98 It says here in Acts 15:20, it says, 00:25:10.01\00:25:13.89 "But that we write unto them, 00:25:13.92\00:25:15.58 that they abstain from pollutions of idols, 00:25:15.61\00:25:19.38 and from fornication, 00:25:19.41\00:25:21.25 and from things strangled, and from blood." 00:25:21.28\00:25:26.10 So that excessive iron that you are talking about, 00:25:26.13\00:25:29.37 God knew it, He said, it's too much. 00:25:29.40\00:25:31.25 Absolutely. 00:25:31.28\00:25:32.33 And it'll lead to dangerous ifestyle diseases. 00:25:32.36\00:25:35.04 But also protein, protein that is found in the meats 00:25:35.07\00:25:39.12 and in the tissue and talk about that a little bit 00:25:39.15\00:25:41.33 before we run out of time. 00:25:41.36\00:25:42.81 We've got just about a minute and half. 00:25:42.84\00:25:44.20 Sure. Animal protein has been shown over and over again 00:25:44.23\00:25:48.89 to raise levels of what would-- hormones 00:25:48.92\00:25:51.84 that are called IGF-1, IGF-2, 00:25:51.87\00:25:54.40 which stands for Insulin- like Growth Factor-1 and 2. 00:25:54.43\00:25:57.57 The higher the levels of these, of IGF-1 and 2 in your body, 00:25:57.60\00:26:00.88 the greater your risk of developing 00:26:00.91\00:26:03.77 various types of cancers. 00:26:03.80\00:26:05.15 Also of developing diabetes 00:26:05.18\00:26:08.03 and a number of other inflammatory conditions 00:26:08.06\00:26:10.76 that again lead to disease. 00:26:10.79\00:26:12.59 So again, animal protein 00:26:12.63\00:26:14.68 is actually toxic to our system, 00:26:14.71\00:26:17.80 whereas plant proteins 00:26:17.83\00:26:19.52 actually are very beneficial to our system. 00:26:19.55\00:26:21.90 Animal proteins tend to promote atherosclerosis, 00:26:21.93\00:26:24.82 plants proteins don't. 00:26:24.85\00:26:26.38 Plant proteins actually benefit our immune system, 00:26:26.41\00:26:29.31 animal proteins tends to down regulate your immune system. 00:26:29.34\00:26:33.65 And that's not a good thing, 00:26:33.68\00:26:34.80 because your immune system is your police force. 00:26:34.83\00:26:37.41 It's what guards your body against infection, 00:26:37.44\00:26:40.11 guards your body against tumor formation. 00:26:40.14\00:26:42.60 You need a healthy, robust immune system. 00:26:42.63\00:26:46.83 I tell, you know, what it just sorts of opens my mind up to. 00:26:46.86\00:26:50.27 You mentioned diabetes, 00:26:50.30\00:26:51.64 we're gonna have to have you back. 00:26:51.67\00:26:53.06 And come back and talk about diabetes in this context. 00:26:53.09\00:26:56.75 This has been a fascinating discussion 00:26:56.78\00:26:59.76 with Dr. Milton Mills 00:26:59.79\00:27:01.01 as we've been talking about clean and unclean meats 00:27:01.04\00:27:03.79 but also the blood that's in meat 00:27:03.82\00:27:05.43 and why we we love it so much. 00:27:05.46\00:27:07.68 Now this has been a greater context for you 00:27:07.71\00:27:10.23 I hope in terms of, seeing the things 00:27:10.26\00:27:13.15 in your own family the cancer, the diabetes. 00:27:13.18\00:27:15.65 But we're gonna come back 00:27:15.68\00:27:16.71 and we're gonna talk about this some more. 00:27:16.74\00:27:18.03 So tune in the next time on "From Sickness to Health." 00:27:18.06\00:27:21.90 Thank you Dr. Milton Mills, 00:27:21.93\00:27:23.78 we appreciate it and we'll see you again. 00:27:23.81\00:27:25.55 I remember when eating clean and unclean foods 00:27:27.88\00:27:31.13 became very, very real to our family. 00:27:31.16\00:27:33.93 We were just eating the things that we loved 00:27:33.96\00:27:35.57 and we won't be thinking about it. 00:27:35.60\00:27:36.80 We didn't care, we didn't know any better, 00:27:36.83\00:27:38.17 we were just enjoying our food. 00:27:38.20\00:27:39.79 It tastes great so what was the problem? 00:27:39.82\00:27:42.22 But there was this time, 00:27:42.25\00:27:43.47 I was about eight-years-old and we had a certain pork item 00:27:43.50\00:27:46.77 and the entire family, all eight of us 00:27:46.80\00:27:49.59 became so incredibly sick. 00:27:49.62\00:27:53.04 I've not had pork since that day. 00:27:53.07\00:27:54.94 Now today we've shared with you 00:27:54.97\00:27:57.02 that which is clean and that which is unclean-- 00:27:57.05\00:27:59.43 Hey, yeah, but what about bacon? What about bacon? 00:27:59.46\00:28:03.04 If it comes from a pig it's unclean. 00:28:03.07\00:28:05.61 Yeah, but it tastes so good. 00:28:05.64\00:28:06.92 It is not about taste, 00:28:06.95\00:28:08.06 it's about what the Word of God says. 00:28:08.09\00:28:10.11 See, that's where you go this old Leviticus 00:28:10.14\00:28:12.77 and Old Testament stuff totally wrong. 00:28:12.80\00:28:15.55 When people are offered a BLT can't resist it. 00:28:15.58\00:28:18.77 Jumbo shrimp, lobsters all in one, 00:28:18.80\00:28:20.96 people are gonna eat what there're gonna eat. 00:28:20.99\00:28:23.06 And we're going to keep informing them 00:28:23.09\00:28:25.13 about what is good, what is healthy 00:28:25.16\00:28:27.28 and that which will do you the best. 00:28:27.31\00:28:29.57 What about barbeque snake chops? 00:28:29.60\00:28:32.11 Its-- what?
