In Numbers chapter 15 and verse 39 the Word says: 00:00:02.86\00:00:06.94 "Speak unto the children of Israel and bid them that 00:00:07.14\00:00:10.01 they make them fringes in the borders of their garments 00:00:10.21\00:00:13.78 throughout their generations and that they put upon the 00:00:13.98\00:00:17.38 fringe of the borders a ribbon of blue. " 00:00:17.58\00:00:21.42 This ribbon of blue was a test of the Israelites' 00:00:22.45\00:00:25.65 obedience. Here simple obedience came in the color of blue. 00:00:25.85\00:00:31.59 Blue! I like that. 00:00:31.79\00:00:34.40 Well hello and welcome to From Sickness To Health. 00:00:34.60\00:00:37.70 I am your host Rico Hill 00:00:38.10\00:00:39.93 and this is the blue guy. That's me, also known as Sickness. 00:00:40.14\00:00:43.51 Hey Rico, I noticed on that last scripture 00:00:43.91\00:00:46.11 you were a little preoccupied with color 00:00:46.31\00:00:48.41 so I'd like to do a little test. Fine, go ahead. 00:00:48.61\00:00:51.31 OK... here we go. What color is this? 00:00:51.51\00:00:53.05 It's brown. Is it red? Clearly it's brown. 00:00:53.45\00:00:57.45 Oh, interesting. What color is this? 00:00:57.65\00:01:00.92 Oh, come on... it's red. It's red. Exactly, Rico. 00:01:01.12\00:01:04.53 I know that you're going to talk about red meat today 00:01:04.73\00:01:07.20 and I just wanted to get our colors straight 00:01:07.40\00:01:09.43 right from the beginning. OK, I see where this is going. 00:01:09.63\00:01:12.13 In this program we're going to share with you 00:01:12.33\00:01:14.74 clear-cut research that shows the significant warnings 00:01:14.94\00:01:19.67 about the dangers of eating red meat. 00:01:19.87\00:01:22.31 How is it red meat? 00:01:22.71\00:01:24.91 Hamburgers? Brown. Steaks? Brown. 00:01:25.11\00:01:28.58 Lamb chops? Brown. Spaghetti and meat balls? 00:01:28.98\00:01:31.79 Mostly brown... a little red sauce. 00:01:32.19\00:01:34.32 I think you get my point. How is it red meat? 00:01:34.52\00:01:36.86 Look, I'm not going to answer the question any more. 00:01:37.06\00:01:38.69 Let's roll it. Don't ignore me! 00:01:38.89\00:01:41.06 Is it because I'm a person of color? 00:01:41.46\00:01:43.43 Roll it. 00:01:43.83\00:01:45.43 Well hello and welcome to From Sickness To Health. 00:02:26.64\00:02:30.65 Thank you for joining us here in the studio. 00:02:30.85\00:02:32.78 We have a topic today that you are going to love... 00:02:32.98\00:02:36.99 maybe to hate. Today joining us here in the studio 00:02:37.19\00:02:40.22 is a friend of mine. It is Dr. Milton Mills. 00:02:40.42\00:02:43.89 He is a critical care physician at the United Medical Center 00:02:44.09\00:02:48.66 in Washington, D.C. But that's not all! 00:02:48.86\00:02:51.03 He's also the associate director of preventative medicine 00:02:51.23\00:02:55.27 for the Physicians' Committee for Responsible Medicine. 00:02:55.47\00:02:59.71 Now there are two words that I love in his title 00:03:00.01\00:03:02.61 and that's preventative and that's responsible. 00:03:02.81\00:03:05.91 Thank you so much, doctor, for being here with us 00:03:06.31\00:03:08.42 on the program. I'm thrilled to be here. 00:03:08.62\00:03:10.45 Praise the Lord! Now we're going to be talking about 00:03:10.65\00:03:12.92 red meat, as we've just seen from Sickness. 00:03:13.12\00:03:16.06 And some people... they don't call it red meat. 00:03:16.36\00:03:21.03 Some people think it's brown meat. Some people just 00:03:21.23\00:03:23.57 don't care what color it is they just are emotional about it. 00:03:23.77\00:03:27.07 But before we get into it let's give our co-host - 00:03:27.27\00:03:31.37 the blue guy, Sickness - an opportunity to 00:03:31.57\00:03:33.34 share what he thinks on this subject. So let's take a look. 00:03:33.54\00:03:36.01 Thank you, Rico. What I've got here is a nice, juicy steak. 00:03:38.11\00:03:42.18 And everyone loves a good steak. 00:03:42.38\00:03:44.19 This guy here? He's 22 ounce of goodness. 00:03:44.39\00:03:47.46 What I like is all the fat around it 00:03:47.82\00:03:50.03 and the fact that it's rare. 00:03:50.33\00:03:51.83 You know rare meat takes a lot longer to digest. 00:03:52.03\00:03:54.50 Look at all that blood... that "ooey" goodness. 00:03:54.80\00:03:58.43 You know, the average piece of red meat takes 8-10 days 00:03:58.63\00:04:02.80 to go through your system. And if you're lucky, two weeks. 00:04:03.00\00:04:05.94 Hmmm. Think of all that rotting goodness putrefying 00:04:06.14\00:04:09.81 in your stomach. Along the way you may get some colon cancer. 00:04:10.01\00:04:12.98 There is that risk, but TASTE always outweighs the risk. 00:04:13.18\00:04:16.32 Back to you Rico. 00:04:16.72\00:04:18.29 Um, um... this is going to be good. 00:04:18.49\00:04:22.59 Well, I don't know about that. 00:04:24.63\00:04:26.16 We have a lot to say about that, don't we? Sure. 00:04:26.36\00:04:27.93 OK. But before we jump into it, you know, there are traditions 00:04:28.13\00:04:31.80 that are associated with our diet and what we eat. 00:04:32.00\00:04:37.57 I mean, we have all types of holidays 00:04:37.97\00:04:39.87 and family traditions that play a part. 00:04:40.08\00:04:43.95 In fact, there's the story that goes: a young girl asking 00:04:44.15\00:04:47.02 her mother, you know, as she was baking a ham 00:04:47.22\00:04:49.85 and she was looking for this particular pot 00:04:50.05\00:04:53.92 and she couldn't find it and she was all up in arms. 00:04:54.12\00:04:56.86 She was upset, and the daughter said: "Why don't you 00:04:57.06\00:05:00.00 just use a different pot? " 00:05:00.20\00:05:01.86 And the mother said: "No! We have to use this pot 00:05:02.06\00:05:04.83 because it's the one that makes it taste better. " 00:05:05.03\00:05:08.57 She said: "Why does it make it taste better? " 00:05:08.87\00:05:10.44 And the mother couldn't quite answer. She said: "Go ask 00:05:10.84\00:05:12.94 your grandmother. " So she goes to ask the grandmother 00:05:13.14\00:05:15.51 and the grandmother said: "Because it makes it taste 00:05:15.71\00:05:17.88 better. " But she said: "Why? " 00:05:18.08\00:05:19.41 And she couldn't answer. And there was another 00:05:19.75\00:05:21.92 great-grandmother... three lines in this generation... 00:05:22.32\00:05:25.72 and they asked the great- grandmother: "Why... 00:05:25.92\00:05:28.96 why does it make the ham taste better? " 00:05:29.16\00:05:32.16 And the great-grandmother, not wanting to pull any punches, 00:05:32.56\00:05:35.76 not willing to make up anything, she just said: 00:05:35.96\00:05:37.90 "Baby, that's all we had. " 00:05:38.10\00:05:40.14 So we see that sometimes tradition is the only reason 00:05:40.34\00:05:45.84 why we do certain things. 00:05:46.04\00:05:47.38 People eat certain ways, doctor, from tradition, 00:05:47.54\00:05:50.71 from opinion, and sometimes from emotion. 00:05:51.01\00:05:55.28 Can you talk about that for us? 00:05:55.68\00:05:57.22 Sure. You know, I once read that 00:05:57.42\00:06:01.02 all animals feed; only human beings eat. Um-hmm. 00:06:01.22\00:06:05.73 And what that is designed to get at is the fact that we humans 00:06:05.93\00:06:10.13 have an emotional response to the food that we eat. 00:06:10.33\00:06:13.90 For instance, if I invited you over to my house 00:06:14.30\00:06:16.71 for a meal... yes... and when you came to my house 00:06:16.91\00:06:20.74 you would obviously get dressed and come 00:06:20.94\00:06:23.91 expecting, you know, a nice meal. And when you walked into 00:06:24.11\00:06:27.02 the house I went to the kitchen sink, rummaged around, 00:06:27.22\00:06:31.45 got a pot of some oatmeal from this morning's breakfast. 00:06:31.65\00:06:36.83 Scraped some out and threw it on the floor 00:06:37.03\00:06:40.50 and said: "Bon appetit, " you would be absolutely insulted. 00:06:40.70\00:06:45.03 My dog would be thrilled. 00:06:45.33\00:06:46.97 Exactly! That encapsulates very well 00:06:48.20\00:06:52.37 the difference we have in terms of how we emotionally respond - 00:06:52.57\00:06:56.98 yeah - to the way food is presented to us. OK. 00:06:57.18\00:07:00.22 We expect that it's going to have certain, 00:07:00.42\00:07:03.75 you know, a certain presentation, certain qualities, 00:07:03.95\00:07:06.76 certain emotional aspects. 00:07:06.96\00:07:09.19 And that's one of the reasons that we have such a hard time 00:07:09.39\00:07:12.09 making dietary change because there are cultural 00:07:12.29\00:07:16.46 and emotional components to what and how we eat. 00:07:16.67\00:07:20.64 Many of the foods that people feel attached to 00:07:20.84\00:07:24.37 they feel attached to because this is, you know, the way 00:07:24.57\00:07:27.61 we've always done it. This is what my grandmother 00:07:27.81\00:07:30.71 or my mom or - yes - what we've traditionally eaten 00:07:30.91\00:07:34.02 for the holidays or for this particular season. 00:07:34.22\00:07:37.75 But it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with 00:07:37.95\00:07:40.99 the intrinsic nutritional value of the food. 00:07:41.19\00:07:43.89 And in fact, many of the things that we've been taught to eat 00:07:44.09\00:07:47.33 we now know are not good for us and have very deleterious 00:07:47.53\00:07:52.57 effects on our health and we need to make change. 00:07:52.77\00:07:55.97 So we need to try and divorce ourselves 00:07:56.17\00:07:59.87 from the emotional attachment we have to some of the things 00:08:00.08\00:08:03.78 we eat and start to look at them more critically. 00:08:03.98\00:08:06.11 What we have to understand is that food is really 00:08:06.31\00:08:10.25 just a collection of chemicals that are designed 00:08:10.45\00:08:14.66 to do two things: one, deliver energy to our bodies 00:08:14.86\00:08:18.36 and two, provide our bodies with the nutrients it needs 00:08:18.56\00:08:23.20 to - or they need - to function healthfully. 00:08:23.40\00:08:27.44 So any time we sit down to a meal 00:08:27.64\00:08:30.21 we need to ask ourselves: "What nutrients is this plate 00:08:30.41\00:08:35.08 of food going to be delivering to me? " 00:08:35.28\00:08:37.11 And the corollary to that question is 00:08:37.31\00:08:40.15 "Is it going to be doing anything to my body that is 00:08:40.35\00:08:43.05 actually going to harm me? " 00:08:43.25\00:08:44.89 And the answers to that question are: one, it's not 00:08:45.09\00:08:50.59 delivering any nutrients to me 00:08:50.79\00:08:52.43 and two, in fact, it is harming my body 00:08:52.63\00:08:56.10 then we shouldn't be eating it. 00:08:56.30\00:08:58.07 So we need to help people to be a lot wiser about their 00:08:58.27\00:09:02.47 choices and their concept of food. 00:09:02.67\00:09:07.14 And we want to try and accomplish that in this program. 00:09:07.34\00:09:09.34 So today before we go further with our discussion 00:09:09.74\00:09:13.31 because we've got a lot to cover - sure - 00:09:13.52\00:09:14.85 and I know it's going to be really good as we start to jump 00:09:14.88\00:09:17.19 into some of the research that you've done 00:09:17.39\00:09:18.82 we want to actually see what the news is saying. 00:09:19.12\00:09:22.82 Can we get some insight? On this show we like to 00:09:23.02\00:09:26.39 get a sense of not only what you and I are going to say. 00:09:26.59\00:09:29.83 We want to see what the news is telling people. Sure. 00:09:30.03\00:09:31.73 We want to see what the people on the street are saying. 00:09:31.93\00:09:33.50 But ultimately we're going to come back right after we see 00:09:33.80\00:09:36.17 this clip and we're going to see what the Bible says. 00:09:36.37\00:09:38.34 Absolutely. Let's do that... let's take a look. 00:09:38.54\00:09:40.28 The Harvard School of Public Health saying there 00:09:42.04\00:09:43.95 is a dramatically-increased risk of death from eating 00:09:44.15\00:09:46.85 as little as one extra serving of red meat per day. 00:09:47.05\00:09:49.62 So let's bring in our medical editor, Dr. Richard Besser, 00:09:49.92\00:09:51.99 to talk about this. So what's the headline here 00:09:52.19\00:09:53.66 with this study? You know, Robin, we've known 00:09:53.86\00:09:55.49 that there's a connection between eating red meat and 00:09:55.69\00:09:58.06 heart disease, eating red meat and certain types of cancer. 00:09:58.26\00:10:00.70 Here they looked at eating red meat and your risk of 00:10:01.00\00:10:03.16 having an early death. And what they found was pretty stunning. 00:10:03.37\00:10:05.87 For every additional serving of red meat you have per day 00:10:06.27\00:10:09.54 your risk of dying early during the course of this study 00:10:09.74\00:10:12.47 goes up by 12%. I mean that's huge - yes - 12%. 00:10:12.67\00:10:15.51 But there is some good news here because they're also saying 00:10:15.91\00:10:18.15 small changes can have a big impact. 00:10:18.35\00:10:20.55 That's right. You know, whenever I see a study like this 00:10:20.75\00:10:22.58 it's like: "Well, what do you do about it? " 00:10:22.78\00:10:24.29 But they looked to see what happens when you substitute 00:10:24.59\00:10:27.06 one of those portions of red meat 00:10:27.26\00:10:28.99 for a healthier protein. And what they found was 00:10:29.19\00:10:31.19 for every time you do that substitution with something like 00:10:31.39\00:10:34.00 fish, poultry, nuts, grains your risk of that early death 00:10:34.20\00:10:38.30 goes down by 19%. So there IS something you can do. 00:10:38.50\00:10:40.94 So they're not only saying stay away from a lot of red meat 00:10:41.14\00:10:44.01 but they're saying if you do take these substitutions 00:10:44.21\00:10:46.61 that you're going to... It matters. Yeah, it matters. 00:10:46.81\00:10:48.48 Whoa! Whoa! This is some serious scientific research 00:10:48.68\00:10:52.21 that is... And most people don't know about it! 00:10:52.41\00:10:54.08 That's true. It's amazing to me that 00:10:54.48\00:10:56.99 you can have all of the media, most of the news outlets 00:10:57.19\00:11:01.52 they're talking about this but when you get into a group 00:11:01.72\00:11:04.79 of people it's as if they have heard nothing about it. 00:11:04.99\00:11:08.40 But here's what I'd like to do: I'd like to go and see 00:11:08.60\00:11:11.23 if the news is agreeing to what God has said. 00:11:11.43\00:11:14.60 So I'm going to go into the Bible and I'm going to look 00:11:14.80\00:11:16.67 and see the diet that God has given. And I'm going to look at 00:11:16.87\00:11:20.24 three verses in three different chapters 00:11:20.44\00:11:24.11 of the book of Genesis. So first I'm going to take 00:11:24.31\00:11:26.28 a look at: Genesis 1:29. I'm going to do this very 00:11:26.58\00:11:28.38 quickly. And before I look into the scripture 00:11:28.58\00:11:30.85 I always like to pray so God will guide our thoughts 00:11:31.05\00:11:33.49 and guide those who are hearing. 00:11:33.69\00:11:35.46 So let's just pray very quickly. Father in heaven, 00:11:35.66\00:11:37.23 we thank you for the Word and we pray You would bless 00:11:37.43\00:11:40.03 it and bless those who are hear- ing. In Jesus' name, Amen. Amen. 00:11:40.23\00:11:43.40 In Genesis 1:29 it says: 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.53 Then in Genesis chapter 3 after the fall 00:12:00.78\00:12:05.29 He changes the diet. He adds something to it. 00:12:05.49\00:12:08.19 And that's found in Genesis chapter 3 and verse 18. 00:12:08.49\00:12:11.53 It says: 00:12:11.73\00:12:13.06 So God has now brought into fruit, nuts, grains, and seeds 00:12:21.17\00:12:25.54 He's brought in the herb of the field. 00:12:25.74\00:12:28.34 Can I interject something? Sure! 00:12:28.54\00:12:30.18 The reason God enlarged the diet for humans 00:12:30.58\00:12:34.42 was because He had changed their diet by barring their 00:12:34.62\00:12:38.39 access to the fruit from the Tree of Life. 00:12:38.59\00:12:42.22 Because now they could no longer eat from the Tree of Life. 00:12:42.42\00:12:44.79 Absolutely. And we know from earlier in Genesis 00:12:44.99\00:12:48.86 He said the reason He wasn't going to allow them to continue 00:12:49.06\00:12:52.53 to eat from the fruit of the Tree of Life 00:12:52.73\00:12:54.57 was because the fruit from the Tree of Life 00:12:54.77\00:12:59.01 had the power to perpetuate life indefinitely. 00:12:59.21\00:13:02.54 And by that we can infer that that fruit had the power 00:13:02.74\00:13:06.15 to help rebuild and restore the tissues of the body. 00:13:06.35\00:13:10.62 Yes. And since they no longer had access to that fruit 00:13:10.82\00:13:13.59 He had to enlarge their diet to other types of plant foods 00:13:13.79\00:13:18.06 that could partially replace the nutrients they were no longer 00:13:18.26\00:13:21.80 getting from that special fruit. 00:13:22.00\00:13:24.40 And those were the plant foods described as the herbs of the 00:13:24.60\00:13:28.40 field... which are your legumes, your grains, 00:13:28.60\00:13:31.51 and your vegetables. And in the green of that vegetable 00:13:31.71\00:13:36.38 we find chlorophyll - absolutely - which is 00:13:36.58\00:13:38.68 absolutely essential. It's... Some people call it green blood. 00:13:38.88\00:13:42.82 Right... that's right. So this was needed and God knew 00:13:43.02\00:13:45.45 that they needed this now. Now the third part of the diet 00:13:45.65\00:13:48.62 because it changes after the flood, doesn't it? Yes. 00:13:48.82\00:13:51.03 Changes after the flood, and now I'm going to Genesis chapter 9. 00:13:51.43\00:13:54.63 In Genesis chapter 9... and again, so that you're paying 00:13:54.93\00:13:58.23 attention at home and keeping track 00:13:58.43\00:13:59.80 we're looking to see if what we've just seen in the news clip 00:14:00.00\00:14:02.87 is agreeing with what the Bible says... what God has said. 00:14:03.07\00:14:07.18 So in Genesis chapter 9 and verses 3, 4, and 5 it says: 00:14:07.38\00:14:11.05 So the Word of God is saying 00:14:42.88\00:14:45.55 that I gave you fruits, nuts, grains, and seeds but because 00:14:45.75\00:14:48.42 of sin I added to it as you just clearly articulated 00:14:48.62\00:14:52.65 but then once the flood came and there was no more vegetation 00:14:52.85\00:14:56.29 God said: "I'm going to allow you to eat meat 00:14:56.49\00:14:59.09 but when you eat it, your life is going to be shortened. " 00:14:59.29\00:15:02.46 Right. The clip has just agreed with the Word of God. 00:15:02.66\00:15:05.97 Go ahead... Absolutely. I would also argue that 00:15:06.17\00:15:08.94 that was meant to be temporary. And I think again we 00:15:09.14\00:15:13.14 can infer that that was meant to be a temporary enlargement 00:15:13.34\00:15:17.95 of the diet because Numbers 11 when God brought His people 00:15:18.15\00:15:21.45 out of Egypt He fed them with manna 00:15:21.65\00:15:24.49 which Psalms describes as being the "corn of heaven" 00:15:24.69\00:15:28.49 and "angel's food. " And God wanted them to eat this 00:15:28.69\00:15:32.36 plant-based diet, but it was the Israelites who demanded 00:15:32.56\00:15:37.07 flesh... which again, Numbers 11 tells us... angered God. 00:15:37.27\00:15:40.97 And He sent a flock of quails into the camp 00:15:41.37\00:15:44.54 so they could have the meat they demanded. 00:15:44.74\00:15:46.54 But many of them died with the flesh between their teeth 00:15:46.74\00:15:50.15 and it came out of their nostrils. 00:15:50.35\00:15:52.41 So again, it was God's desire that we continue to eat 00:15:52.61\00:15:57.12 the plant-based diet that He had designed us to eat originally. 00:15:57.32\00:16:00.96 But it was the humans who demanded the flesh 00:16:01.16\00:16:05.09 and He relented and allowed them to eat only certain types 00:16:05.29\00:16:09.86 of flesh. Wow! That is amazing when you think about that. 00:16:10.07\00:16:13.54 So it brings into question that God has a perfect will 00:16:13.74\00:16:18.47 and then He has a permissive will. Absolutely. So a perfect 00:16:18.67\00:16:21.94 will and desire was that man first of all would live forever 00:16:22.14\00:16:25.51 which is what you were describing earlier when you 00:16:25.71\00:16:28.05 were talking about the Tree of Life. 00:16:28.25\00:16:29.58 Man was designed to live forever! 00:16:29.68\00:16:33.19 But His permissive will brought in a different diet 00:16:33.39\00:16:37.73 just to help man to live - correct - a little longer. 00:16:37.93\00:16:41.40 But then after the flood then man had to eat the flesh 00:16:41.80\00:16:45.93 which was temporary as the doctor has just pointed out. 00:16:46.13\00:16:48.87 And that was designed to just help him to get along... 00:16:49.07\00:16:52.11 again, permissive will. And you mentioned this, that He... 00:16:52.74\00:16:56.61 they desired to have meat and He gave it to them 00:16:56.81\00:17:02.15 but it made them sick. Absolutely. It made them sick. 00:17:02.35\00:17:04.59 Again we're seeing that. Right. But in Psalm 105 it says that 00:17:04.79\00:17:08.99 when the tribes of Israel were journeying through the 00:17:09.19\00:17:13.93 wilderness there was not one feeble member among them. 00:17:14.13\00:17:17.73 So the ones who wanted to eat it... they died off. 00:17:17.93\00:17:20.60 But the ones who continued to eat the manna in the way that 00:17:20.80\00:17:22.70 God said there was none that were sick. Absolutely. 00:17:22.90\00:17:26.78 Furthermore, we are told in the first chapter of Daniel 00:17:27.08\00:17:30.41 when Daniel was carried captive into Babylon 00:17:30.61\00:17:33.72 He was given this very... he and his Hebrew companions 00:17:33.92\00:17:37.95 were given a very rich diet from their Babylonian captors 00:17:38.45\00:17:44.43 that included meat, wine, and a bunch of other things 00:17:44.63\00:17:48.53 that Daniel decided he did not want to defile himself with. 00:17:48.83\00:17:53.54 So he went to his overseer and he said: "Look, 00:17:53.74\00:17:56.67 we don't want to eat this. We want to eat just vegetables 00:17:56.97\00:18:01.01 and water. " His overseer said: "Look, if I let you guys eat 00:18:01.21\00:18:06.72 this way you're going to get sick and I'm going to basically 00:18:06.92\00:18:11.25 be executed for not letting you eat a healthier diet. " 00:18:11.45\00:18:17.29 He said: "Test us. Let us eat nothing but vegetables and water 00:18:17.49\00:18:21.33 for ten days then compare us to the people 00:18:21.53\00:18:24.47 eating the king's diet 00:18:24.67\00:18:26.97 after ten days and see who is healthier. " 00:18:27.17\00:18:30.11 And after ten days the Bible tells us 00:18:30.31\00:18:32.47 that Daniel and his companions were fairer, healthier, 00:18:32.67\00:18:36.51 and looked much better than those who ate 00:18:36.71\00:18:39.68 the regular diet and therefore they were allowed 00:18:39.88\00:18:42.32 to continue to eat their plant-based diet indefinitely. 00:18:42.52\00:18:46.39 So again, the Bible makes it very clear 00:18:46.59\00:18:48.89 that not only were we originally designed to eat a plant-based 00:18:49.09\00:18:52.26 diet but that when we do adhere to that diet 00:18:52.46\00:18:55.83 we are healthier, we look better, and we live longer. 00:18:56.03\00:19:00.34 Praise God! Now we want to take a look here 00:19:00.64\00:19:03.30 'cause people on the streets don't know this, and 00:19:03.51\00:19:06.11 our co-host Sickness went out and he talked to people 00:19:06.41\00:19:09.48 and he just wanted to see what they have to say on the subject. 00:19:09.68\00:19:11.61 Let's take a look and see what they're saying. 00:19:11.91\00:19:13.48 Hey everybody... I'm here with my friend Max. 00:19:15.72\00:19:17.42 What part of the country are you from, Max? 00:19:17.62\00:19:19.02 Atlanta GA. Oh man, this guy knows how to pick his cities. 00:19:19.22\00:19:22.42 Let me ask you a question: they know how to eat down South, 00:19:22.72\00:19:25.06 right? Um-hmm. What are some of your favorite foods? 00:19:25.26\00:19:27.06 Hot wings. Hot wings! Hallelujah! 00:19:27.26\00:19:30.60 What else do you like? Ribs... tacos. Ribs, tacos... 00:19:30.80\00:19:35.10 What else? Keep going... you're making my day. 00:19:35.30\00:19:37.01 Hamburgers. Hamburgers! Tacos you said? Um-hmm. 00:19:37.21\00:19:41.08 Hamburgers you said? Yes. You like steaks? Yes. 00:19:41.28\00:19:44.05 OK, let me ask you one more question: red meat... do you 00:19:44.25\00:19:45.88 like red meat? I do... I love red meat. 00:19:46.08\00:19:47.88 What types of red meat do you like? 00:19:48.08\00:19:49.78 Steaks. Oh... steaks. The big ones, right? 00:19:49.98\00:19:53.19 Yes... the really good ones. Hamburgers? 00:19:53.39\00:19:55.19 Umm, they have to be like super sized. And juicy? 00:19:55.39\00:19:58.53 And juicy. Oh, we are best friends. Yes. 00:19:58.73\00:20:01.20 She's a carnivore connoisseur. I am! 00:20:01.40\00:20:04.23 What do you think about a nice juicy steak? 00:20:04.43\00:20:06.63 I love steak but that's just heavy. 00:20:06.84\00:20:10.04 It's heavy food, man. It's heavy. It's like... 00:20:10.24\00:20:12.37 Takes like about a week to get out of my system. 00:20:12.57\00:20:14.18 Now would you consider yourself someone who likes red meat? 00:20:14.38\00:20:17.28 Yeah, I like red meat, yeah. Steak? Hamburger? 00:20:17.48\00:20:20.78 Had some bacon this morning. Oh, she had some bacon this morning. 00:20:20.98\00:20:23.39 She's a carnivore connoisseur! Yes. 00:20:23.59\00:20:27.02 Carnivore connoisseur... that's what you are. That's right! 00:20:27.22\00:20:28.86 I love you more every single day. This is fantastic! 00:20:29.06\00:20:31.83 WE LOVE THIS LADY! 00:20:32.03\00:20:33.40 You need to come on down South and cook for us. 00:20:33.60\00:20:35.60 Oh I can! I know of some vege- tarians that you could cook for. 00:20:35.80\00:20:38.73 Mmm... we don't like vegetarians. We do not like 00:20:38.93\00:20:41.74 vegetarians. Let's say it in the camera together: 00:20:41.94\00:20:43.64 we do not like vegetarians. 00:20:43.84\00:20:47.01 Back to you. 00:20:47.31\00:20:48.78 Well... there you have it. We see that people are, 00:20:49.41\00:20:52.81 you know, they love their steaks. 00:20:53.01\00:20:54.78 They love their red meat, man. 00:20:54.98\00:20:58.35 And the thing is is that they're loving it out of an 00:20:58.55\00:21:02.02 emotional place. They're loving it out of the tradition. 00:21:02.22\00:21:04.73 And now I'm going to let you just kind of go and just share 00:21:04.93\00:21:08.30 this research 'cause it's fascinating. 00:21:08.50\00:21:10.43 Do they love the taste as they think? Do they love the smell? 00:21:10.73\00:21:13.13 Break that whole thing down. 00:21:13.34\00:21:14.67 Well first of all, you saw me laughing, Rico. 00:21:14.70\00:21:17.61 And I'm laughing because they think they love it. 00:21:17.77\00:21:20.18 They really don't... because I tell people 00:21:20.38\00:21:23.91 "If you really loved meat, you would eat it the way 00:21:24.11\00:21:28.15 real carnivores eat it: that's raw, 00:21:28.35\00:21:30.82 bloody, rotting and covered with flies and maggots. " Oh! 00:21:31.02\00:21:34.96 Man! When is the last time you saw a dog or a cat 00:21:35.16\00:21:38.46 say: "I'm not going to touch a piece of meat unless it's 00:21:38.66\00:21:41.50 been fried, breaded, and covered with some sort of 00:21:41.70\00:21:46.74 peppercorn sauce and lightly sautéed in garlic and oil. " 00:21:46.94\00:21:51.07 I mean, they don't care about that! 00:21:51.27\00:21:53.41 They will eat it in its native state which is something we find 00:21:53.61\00:21:57.98 utterly disgusting. And tell us why. 00:21:58.18\00:22:00.48 It is because we are not designed to eat it. 00:22:00.68\00:22:04.42 We... 90% of the people who choke to death every year 00:22:04.62\00:22:09.46 according to the ear, nose, and throat literature 00:22:09.66\00:22:12.59 choke to death on animal flesh. 00:22:12.79\00:22:14.96 Why? Because our esophagus - the tube that leads from our 00:22:15.16\00:22:18.53 mouth to our stomach - is not designed to handle 00:22:18.73\00:22:21.60 animal tissue. Carnivores have no problem with it. 00:22:21.80\00:22:24.94 They tear off a hunk of flesh, swallow it whole. 00:22:25.14\00:22:28.74 Why? Because carnivores don't chew their food. 00:22:28.94\00:22:31.41 They don't have to. Herbivores have to chew their food 00:22:31.61\00:22:35.85 because plant foods have a lot of fiber in them 00:22:36.05\00:22:39.45 and in order to digest them effectively 00:22:39.65\00:22:42.66 you have to disrupt those fibrous tissues 00:22:42.86\00:22:47.50 so that you can mix the plant foods with digestive enzymes 00:22:47.66\00:22:51.47 that are contained in the saliva so that the process of 00:22:51.67\00:22:54.44 digestion can actually begin - yeah - with the chewing. 00:22:54.64\00:22:59.27 Carnivores don't have enzymes in their saliva. 00:22:59.47\00:23:02.74 Herbivores do. Humans are herbivores. 00:23:02.94\00:23:05.38 We have an enzyme called salivary amylase 00:23:05.58\00:23:08.55 in our saliva that begins the process of breaking down 00:23:08.75\00:23:11.75 carbohydrates as we chew our food. 00:23:11.95\00:23:14.79 And our esophagus is designed - as all herbivores 00:23:15.19\00:23:21.13 esophagus's are designed - to handle thoroughly chewed, 00:23:21.33\00:23:25.03 small, soft balls of food 00:23:25.23\00:23:28.27 which then go to the stomach and allow the process of 00:23:28.47\00:23:31.97 digestion to continue. 00:23:32.17\00:23:34.48 Carnivores also have huge stomachs. 00:23:34.68\00:23:38.75 A 50 kg. wolf can eat 30% of its body weight 00:23:39.25\00:23:45.22 at one meal. 30%? 30%. 00:23:45.42\00:23:48.32 Of its body weight? Of its body weight. That's 15 kg. 00:23:48.52\00:23:52.53 of meat at one meal. Whoa! That's over 30 pounds 00:23:52.73\00:23:58.33 of meat in one meal! That's absolutely true. 00:23:58.53\00:24:00.94 And another thing: although they have binocular vision 00:24:01.14\00:24:04.34 their eyes are very different from ours. 00:24:04.54\00:24:06.64 They have permanent night-vision goggles. 00:24:06.84\00:24:09.84 They see over six times better at night than we do. 00:24:10.05\00:24:13.11 Why? Because their prey is usually asleep at night 00:24:13.31\00:24:16.99 so they hunt at night. And furthermore, we have 00:24:17.19\00:24:20.39 an area of acute vision in our eyes called a fovea. 00:24:20.59\00:24:24.46 They don't have a fovea. What they have is what's called 00:24:24.66\00:24:27.20 a linear streak that allows them to follow movement 00:24:27.40\00:24:30.63 very well... which is why anything that's moving along 00:24:30.83\00:24:34.30 that linear streak in the back of their eye 00:24:34.50\00:24:36.60 they will chase. But they don't see detail very well 00:24:36.81\00:24:39.87 because they don't need to. All they need to be able to do 00:24:40.08\00:24:42.94 is track movement, because anything that's moving 00:24:43.14\00:24:46.68 is probably something that they can eat. 00:24:46.88\00:24:49.35 Whereas for us, we need color vision 00:24:49.55\00:24:53.12 which they don't have. Why? Because we need to be able 00:24:53.32\00:24:56.29 to tell which plant foods are ripe and ready to be eaten. 00:24:56.49\00:25:00.80 And we also need to be able to see fine detail 00:25:01.00\00:25:04.17 so that we can pick grains and roots and tubers 00:25:04.33\00:25:08.94 so that we will be able to gather the fruits, vegetables 00:25:09.14\00:25:13.68 and other things that we need to eat and provide ourselves 00:25:13.88\00:25:17.18 with the energy that we need. But just one more point 00:25:17.38\00:25:20.32 about the differences in the stomachs. 00:25:20.52\00:25:23.52 Carnivores typically are very inefficient hunters. 00:25:23.92\00:25:27.72 They will... 95% of the time they go out to hunt 00:25:27.92\00:25:30.66 they don't make a kill. So they eat on average 00:25:30.86\00:25:34.40 in the wild once every 7-10 days. 00:25:34.60\00:25:37.07 So they have to be able to eat enough at one meal 00:25:37.27\00:25:39.57 to last them 10 days. That's why they have these 00:25:39.77\00:25:42.37 gigantic stomachs. Plant eaters have to eat 00:25:42.57\00:25:46.04 multiple times every single day. 00:25:46.24\00:25:48.54 And that's why they're designed to walk around 00:25:48.74\00:25:51.31 and eat multiple times a day 00:25:51.51\00:25:53.72 but they have much smaller stomachs. 00:25:53.92\00:25:55.68 Wow! I am blown away. 00:25:56.08\00:25:59.29 So what you have just said to the audience is that 00:25:59.49\00:26:01.92 animals are predators and they are looking for something 00:26:02.12\00:26:05.46 that's running. We don't chase after food. No we don't. 00:26:05.66\00:26:07.93 We need color because... Our eyes respond to color 00:26:08.13\00:26:11.27 because we need to know when it's ripe. Absolutely. 00:26:11.47\00:26:14.17 Praise God! I tell you: this has been 00:26:14.37\00:26:16.30 an exciting discussion. We're going to have to pick it up 00:26:16.50\00:26:19.21 in another program. Hopefully we can get some more 00:26:19.41\00:26:21.88 of these facts in. You have been hearing about 00:26:22.08\00:26:24.98 the dangers of eating red meat 00:26:25.18\00:26:26.98 and how you can have a healthy alternative. 00:26:27.18\00:26:30.49 How you can do something that is actually health to the body. 00:26:30.69\00:26:33.52 So... just keep in mind what we have shared today: 00:26:33.72\00:26:36.62 these are facts. Check them out for yourself, though. 00:26:36.83\00:26:38.83 And we look forward to seeing you in another broadcast 00:26:39.03\00:26:42.10 of From Sickness To Health. 00:26:42.30\00:26:44.17 May God bless you. Thank you, doctor. 00:26:44.33\00:26:45.67 We appreciate it. My pleasure. 00:26:45.70\00:26:47.04 You know, who can deny that a juicy hamburger 00:26:51.14\00:26:55.61 is delicious? I can't. When I ate meat 00:26:55.81\00:26:58.95 there was nothing better for me than a hamburger 00:26:59.15\00:27:03.18 and some French fries. I didn't think there was 00:27:03.39\00:27:04.99 anything other than that. But I tell you: when I was eating it 00:27:05.19\00:27:08.42 I always felt drained. My energy was just zapped. 00:27:08.82\00:27:12.53 But we've learned today in this program that eating red meat 00:27:12.73\00:27:15.80 can do more than zap your energy. It can actually 00:27:16.00\00:27:18.87 cause you to have sicknesses and different types of diseases 00:27:19.07\00:27:23.61 that you otherwise wouldn't have. 00:27:23.81\00:27:25.37 It is proven that a whole-food, plant-based diet 00:27:25.57\00:27:29.14 is best for our health. 00:27:29.34\00:27:31.78 Yes... it's best for our health. 00:27:31.98\00:27:34.12 It helps you live longer. All the stats: I've heard them. 00:27:34.32\00:27:37.82 And you can live a long, miserable life. 00:27:38.12\00:27:41.42 Look, I'm just saying that if people want to enjoy their food 00:27:41.72\00:27:44.66 and have the risk of cancer, let their taste buds win that war. 00:27:44.86\00:27:48.50 And hey, so what if they get their mind and body 00:27:48.70\00:27:51.17 clogged up so they can't hear the voice of reason. 00:27:51.37\00:27:53.67 What about hearing the voice of God? 00:27:54.07\00:27:56.17 What's that have to do with it? 00:27:56.57\00:27:58.17 Here's the thing: if you have a clogged system 00:27:58.37\00:28:01.64 then you'll have a clogged mind. 00:28:01.84\00:28:03.75 And when you have a clogged mind 00:28:03.95\00:28:05.61 how can you hear the voice of God? 00:28:05.81\00:28:07.62 Make no mistake... this is a battle for the mind. 00:28:07.78\00:28:11.55 The Bible tells us that "we wrestle not against flesh 00:28:11.95\00:28:14.82 and blood but we wrestle with principalities and darkness 00:28:15.02\00:28:20.46 in high places. " We must understand that this is not just 00:28:20.66\00:28:23.73 about eat this or eat that 00:28:23.93\00:28:25.27 or don't eat this and don't eat that. 00:28:25.33\00:28:26.87 No... it is a battle for our minds. 00:28:27.07\00:28:29.87 Are you going to be able to hear the voice of God? 00:28:30.27\00:28:33.84 Well... that's our program for today. 00:28:35.14\00:28:37.41 As always I leave you with this: 00:28:37.81\00:28:39.61 Third John 2 says: "Beloved, I wish above all things 00:28:40.02\00:28:42.35 that thou mayest prosper and be in health.
